This document describes a project that tested the impact of patient-centered narrative interviewing on primary care clinicians' perceptions. Consultants were trained to conduct narrative interviews with difficult patients and present findings to their primary care providers. Most providers reported that the information changed their understanding of the patient's condition and treatment options. It also reduced frustration for nearly half of providers. The project provides lessons on improving patient-centered care through better understanding patients' perspectives.
