This chapter discusses stress and stress management. It outlines the general adaptation syndrome model of stress with three stages: alarm, resistance, and exhaustion. Stress can have physical and psychological costs like hypertension, depression, and gastrointestinal issues. College students commonly experience stress from homesickness, relationships, school-work balance, and test anxiety. Effective stress management includes time management, coping strategies like physical activity and social support, and reducing environmental stressors while using relaxation techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, and biofeedback.
