The Grand Canyon National Park
Grand Canyon National Park
Army Lieutenant Joseph Christmas Ives was the first American to ever lay eyes on the Grand Canyon.
He deemed it altogether valueless , and he believed that ours has been the first and will undoubtedly
be the last, party of whites to visit the locality. It seems intended by nature that the Colorado River
along the greater portion of its lonely and majestic way, shall be forever unvisited and disturbed
(Powell, 3 4). Looking out at the vast beauty of the Grand Canyon, he was sure that it would never
have any importance, and nobody would want to see it. Today, Grand Canyon National Park is one of
the greatest and most well known natural landmarks in all of the United States.
The Grand Canyon is considered one of the 7 Wonders of the Natural World. Within its cracks and
bends, the Grand Canyon tells a story of the Native American people, and the roots and history of our
nation. The Grand Canyon is essentially surrounded by various Native American tribes and
reservations, including the Navajo Nation Reservation. The Navajo Nation Reservation, spans 27,000
square miles and spreads across three states: Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. Within its borders lies
monuments, national parks, and of course, Navajo people living traditional lifestyles. This brings in
modern day tourists into the reservations which are a different world within our own, where they don t
have electricity and they live closely kindred lives with nature.
The Grand Canyon is physically

Feed Essay On Technology
In the novel Feed written by M.T. Anderson, the futuristic world the novel is set in a continually
evolving and the characters are overcoming challenges in the technological society. This book focuses
on the deteriorating world due to technological advances. The most important technological
advancement is the feed that the corporations in the future will create. The feed contributes to how
people participate in everyday activities. Only people who can afford one are able to have a feed
implant. It is a parallel to today s modern use of technology and cellular devices. Titus, the
protagonist, is a teenager that comes from a wealthy family and is he grows up extremely privileged.
He and his friends go to the moon for spring break. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The feed corporation preferred people to have the device implanted into the brain as a baby because
the brain was still developing and changing which allowed the brain to grow properly with the feed.
When Violet was young her mom left her father and Violet s father had to get by with very little and
also care for Violet. Violet s dad finally saves up the money to afford a feed for her. Violet
communication skills are more ingenious due to growing up in a different atmosphere. She met Titus
while on the moon and they grew closer. Later, Titus meets her father and when Violet and Titus were
leaving, he looked at her and says, I didn t understand a single thing he said (Anderson 137). Titus
grew up exposed to relying on the feed for many ways of communicating. When Violet s father spoke
with a broad vocabulary, Titus did not know what he was attempting to say to him due to the feed
manipulating the English language to be as simple as possible. In Gooding s article about the novel
Feed, he perceives Violet s father as being the most acutely aware of the interplay of technological and
economic forces that has turned America into a nation of impatient adolescents (Gooding). Gooding is
implying that Violet s father has lived without a feed his entire life and over the years he has observed
how it has impacted the younger generations and how the technology is dominating society and daily
living.

Jane And Finch Sociology
The generalization of crime and violence in Jane and Finch has earned the neighbourhood a negative
reputation. The media s depiction of the area is a community corrupted by: violence, drugs, gangs and
poverty. This has left an undesirable image of suffering, as a result of living in the Jane Finch
community. Society has deemed the community an unsafe place to live and grow up in. The media s
scrutiny only portray negative stereotypes about the area and has not grasped Jane and finch as it
actually is. What is the actuality of Jane and finch? Jane and Finch is the best community in the world
because it is a diverse multicultural area, has the hardest working civilians and a low crime rate.

Jane and Finch has been labelled a bad community, driven by: gang wars, drugs and gun violence.
Many Torontonians avoid the community in fear of being physically harmed. This is due to the media
s generalization of crime and violence within the Jane and Finch. They only portray the negative
events that occur within the communities boarders. But, Jane and Finch has shown remarkable
improvement. Criminal activity has continuously dropped in recent years. For example: assault
occurrences dropped from 418 in 2008 to 299 in 2011, breaking and entering incidents dropped from
193 in 2007 to 84 in 2011, stolen vehicles declined 145 in 2006 to 37 in 2011. The media makes Jane
and Finch seem like the most dangerous place in Toronto. However, other communities within the
Greater Toronto Area have higher criminal rate compared to Jane and Finch. A prime example would
be the West Humber Clairville community, with 390 reported assaults in 2011, 175 breaking and
entering incidents in 2011 and 288 stolen vehicles in 2011. The West Humber Clairville community
had higher crime activity in every category than Jane and finch, and not only them other communities
as well, such as: Bay Street, Yorkdale Glen Park, etc. The media s constant exposure of crime within
the Jane Finch community have made it seem like the worst place in Toronto, but, in reality other

Comparing Tomi And Keet In House Of The Red Fish
When using the Double Bubble Map method to compare two subjects, there are three sides. The
similarities, and the different things about the subjects. In this case, the subjects were Tomi and Keet,
the main characters of House of The Red Fish. One of the many differences between Tomi and Keet is
that Tomi is determined to get his father s fishing sampan to the surface, but Keet is adamant about
keeping it at the bottom of the canal where it lays. The Double Bubble Map is convenient because it
keeps your notes organized, you can also virtually compare any two things, and lastly it s a fun
alternative to taking dull notes. Firstly, this strategy is convenient because of how organized it is. Even

Sherlock Holmes Double Deduction Essay
To Sherlock Holmes she is always the woman. I have seldom heard him mention her under any other
name. In his eyes she eclipses and predominates the whole of her sex. It was not that he felt any
emotion akin to love for Irene Adler. All emotions, and that one particularly, were abhorrent to his
cold, precise but admirably balanced mind. He was, I take it, the most perfect reasoning and observing
machine that the world has seen, but as a lover he would have placed himself in a false position. He
never spoke of the softer passions, save with a gibe and a sneer. They were admirable things for the
observer excellent for drawing the veil from men s motives and actions. But for the trained reasoner to
admit such intrusions into his own delicate and finely adjusted temperament was to introduce a
distracting factor which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

could not help laughing at the ease with which he explained his process of deduction. When I hear you

House On Mango Street Entrapment Theme
We all have had times where we have felt trapped, times where we have been cornered, with no
escape. Times where we have felt entrapped. Entrapment makes you feel like you have no way out or
like there are no choices that can be made. In the book The House on Mango Street, the author, Sandra
Cisneros has a theme of entrapment; the theme is shown through the symbol of windows which
represents freedom, something that women in the book were not granted, the author was showing us
that freedom is a privilege and not something to take for granted.
The windows show the outside world, showing you what lies beyond the four walls which you are
stuck between. Many cases throughout the book result in a woman s character being trapped and not
being able to leave the house they are in. The women then result in looking out the windows only to
dream about leaving. She looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their
sadness on an elbow (11). The main character s grandmother was trapped in her own house, her
husband had stripped her of her freedom and was enable to leave. Windows are tricky, they are sweet
like honey showing you the outside world, but in the book the character, then realizes they cannot
venture past them so they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

fruit drinks she asked for, such as coconut and papaya juice. Esperanza helped by being on the other

beautiful outdoors, although most of us know that we can go outside to what lies beyond our windows,
but some people can t leave, and are just always stuck on one the wrong

Arguments For Favor Of Marriage
Her arguments in favor of marriage, though demonstrating a hearty common sense, are also suspect
while it is true that marriage peoples the earth and replenishes existing stocks of virginitee , her own
marriages do not seem to have produced any offspring, and while it may be her marriages, despite her
claim that, do not seem to have prevented her from which is after all what marriage was, according to
her, supposed to prevent.
Moreover, from the account she gives of her marriages, it becomes increasingly obvious that marriage
(with her, at least) is not quite so beneficial as one might think the only benefit the husbands get, in
exchange for their purgatorie , is that of her with the possible exception of Jankin, who satisfied her
better than but it is worth observing that she never speaks of the sexual act as giving the male partner
pleasure on the contrary, she speaks of the husband s dette to his wife,
Also, while she claims Biblical support for her views on marriage, the support that she cites is
conveniently edited to suit her purposes (for example, Solomon did have 700 wives and 300
concubines but his appetites led to his turning away from God; and the marital relationship specified
in the Bible is a reciprocal one rather than the one sided one she speaks of, tilted in favour of the wife
she conveniently ignores that while the he also exhorts women to love their husbands), and she
elsewhere ignores the Bible when it proves difficult to glose

Feminist Theory
Feminism refers to political, cultural, and economic movements aimed at establishing greater rights,
legal protection for women, and or women s liberation. It includes some of the sociological theories
and philosophies concerned with issues of gender difference. Nancy Cott defines feminism as the
belief in the importance of gender equality, invalidating the idea of gender hierarchy as a socially
constructed concept.
Feminism has earned itself a bad reputation, but it never undermined gender differences that exist
between males and females. A man can never be as good a mother as a female can. Similarly, a
woman can never be as good a father as a male can. While accepting these anatomical and
physiological differences between the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They challenge the assumption that gender oppression is the primary force of patriarchy. They object
to portrayals of women of non Western societies as passive and voiceless victims and the portrayal of
Western women as modern, educated, and empowered.
Today, they struggle to fight gender oppression within their own cultural models of society rather than
through those imposed by the Western colonizers. They, thus, react against both universalizing
tendencies in Western feminist thought and a lack of attention to gender issues in mainstream
postcolonial thought.
Some postcolonial feminists, such as Chandra Talpade Mohanty and Black feminists, such as Angela
Davis and Alice Walker, are critical of Western feminism for being ethnocentric. Chandra Talpade
Mohanty criticizes Western feminism on the ground that it does not take into account the unique
experiences of women from third world countries or the existence of feminisms indigenous to third
world countries. This discourse is strongly related to African feminism and is also associated with
concepts such as black feminism, womanism, Africana womanism, motherism, Stiwanism,
negofeminism, chicana feminism, and femalism.
Pro feminism is the support of feminism without implying that the supporter is a member of the
feminist movement. The term is most often used in reference to men who are actively

Kaffee s suspicions are confirmed when he rejects a plea bargain offer from prosecutor Capt. Jack

discharged from the Navy) for any attempt to smear high ranking officers in making a futile defense.
In the course of the trial it is established that code reds are standard in Guantanamo Bay as a means of
enforcing discipline and getting sloppy Marines to follow procedure. Kaffee especially goes after

Lieutenant Colonel Markinson has gone absent without leave since the incident, but he resurfaces in

previously claimed but created the transfer orders as part of a cover up long after Santiago s death.
Kaffee is unable to find evidence corroborating these claims and announces his intention to have

Authoritarian Technologies In The Whale And The Reactor
Although Ursula Franklin and Langdon Winner both classify technology in different ways, they bring
up many similar points regarding the intersection of power and technology in our everyday life.
Franklin s theory of technology as practice categorizes technology as either prescriptive or holistic in
The Real World of Technology, which correlates well with Winner s idea of technology being created
with either authoritarian or democratic motives in The Whale and the Reactor. After reading both
arguments, a clear correlation can be made between holistic/democratic technologies and
prescriptive/authoritarian technologies as a way to describe power in our society.
Franklin uses the term technology to define ways of doing something. To her, holistic ... Show more

Franklin s idea of a prescriptive technology is any process that has been broken down into steps,
where workers specialize in only one step. These technologies require discipline and planning, and are
designed for compliance (Franklin, 1999). She uses Chinese bronze making to show how each step
involves different people, because if they weren t completed properly, the process couldn t continue.
Similarly, Winner s view on authoritarian technology in that objects can either be designed to assist
those with a hidden agenda to establish patterns of power and authority (Winner, 1986) or that new
technologies or some of their qualities can be strongly or specifically linked to parties who are trying
to create a need for authority or power. Both of these arguments highlight that these technologies now
dominate society, and are no longer restricted to mainly material production. They can be found in
administrative and economic activities as well as many aspects governance. Technology can now
control where we can and cannot go, removing the need to make decisions. He used the construction
of overpasses in New York as an example of this. To control who was able to get into the city,
overpasses were built low so only cars (owned by white people in the middle and upper class) could
get in and those who took public transit (poor people and racial minorities) could not, limiting the
amount of low income citizens. This also shows that new technologies can be created for one purpose
(transportation) to disguise hidden motives (controlling the demographic of a population). Franklin
also acknowledges this, explaining that although prescriptive technologies have brought us many
important products, raised living standards and increased well being, they have also created a culture
of compliance (Franklin, 1999). Winner and Franklin both show a concern for these types of
technologies,

The Real Estate Industry Is An Industry
The real estate industry is an industry where consumers can purchase, rent, or lease real estate,
manage residential, commercial, and industrial properties, and provide other real estate related
services, including appraisals (CITATAION).
The demand for real estate is driven by economic growth, personal finance, and rates of employment,
interest rates, and access to funds. (CITATION) The return on investment of an individual relies on the
value and demand of the property, which are both influenced by the economy. Real estate investors
also depend on the amount of investment capital available. Seasoned investors have a competitive

Within real estate investing there are various independent variables and services that collectively
contribute to the success and major functioning of one another. The realm of these dependencies
within the industry include property and investment management, brokerage services, leasing,
valuations, relocation services (CITATION). The entities in need of the above services include,
property owners, investors, home buyers, and renters. Real estate investors generally focus in
residential or commercial properties.

Increase in the Significant Role in Compliance in...
The rapidly grow of financial innovation and technology in the international financial market have
encouraged an increase in the significant role of compliance in financial service firms over the last
decade. Particularly, aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis, to ensure the financial stability and
protect the future crisis, regulators have continued to pay attention on improved requirement of capital
and liquidity as well as risk management and corporate governance in the financial intermediary.
Additionally, policy makers also have focused on issues associated with stakeholders of the financial
service firms and public interest such as consumer protection, insider trading, LIBOR manipulation
and money laundering. An effective compliance, risk management and internal audit are major
mechanisms to create strong corporate governance (The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors,
2013), which can reduce risks arising from failure to comply regulations and non compliance in the
financial institutions.
Compliance plays an essential role to mitigate risk and protect the business from regulatory fault.
Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (2005) defines compliance as an independent function that

legal or regulatory sanctions, financial loss, or loss to reputation a bank may suffer as a result of its

How Technological Warfare Could Not Be Considered The...
Technological warfare might not be considered the fairest of them all, especially not in this era of
warfare advances. Multiple technological advances have been made, and many of them have been
made for the purpose of war. A very common technological advance in relation to war is guns, but
there is no gun like the CIA s (Central Intelligence Agency) 1970 s Heart Attack Gun. According to
Kurt Nimmo of Info Wars, at the point when the heart assault firearm is shot at an individual, the fatal
poison from the bullet rapidly enters the circulatory system causing a myocardial infarction. The toxic
substance denatures rapidly, so a post mortem is unable to determine the cause of the cardiac arrest.
The dart from this complex CIA weapon can penetrate garments and leave only a small red spot on the
skin, like that of a mosquito bite. The toxic dart disintegrates to its aggregate in the wake of entering
the target. We all know what the purpose of a firearm is, even on the battlefield, but imagine being
able to play war off of the battlefield and without arising suspicion. Imagine taking out your enemy
without having to be held accountable for it. Well those are the implications of a gun with this much
power. Now, moving forward to yet another military rate weapon advancement in technological
warfare.

Introduction
Sport should bring people together regardless of age, sex, religion or nationality. It provides an
opportunity for people of all backgrounds to compete at a grassroots or elite level influencing a

There are many instances where sport can tear individuals and communities apart although. This can

It is expressed in the actions of individuals and institutions and has its roots in the belief that some
people are superior because they belong to a particular race, ethnic or national group. (2)
Sport plays a crucial role for many people in improving quality of life. Sport in this day in age, can
promote social inclusion, providing opportunities for all regardless of age, sex, colour, religion, age,
physical ability, economic background with people and the world around them. As a result of the large
array of diversity in sport although, one in five people experience racism at sports related events
(Ferdinand A, Kelaher M Paradies Y 2013).
Due to sport being subject to a large audience, when racism does occurs in the stadia, the whole world
sees. This can create cycle of inclusion among spectators, in that because one person is doing it, it is
acceptable for another person to copy them. As a consequence of racism in stadia, a lower quality of
life and mental health concerns can arise. Through this, sporting clubs and organizations are impacted
as it can lead people to not become involved in the sport out of fear of being a target. It can also lead
to individuals not performing to the best of their ability, thus creating an unpopular environment for
that player. An atmosphere of mistrust and hatred is therefore created among the sporting clubs and
organization if the issue is not tackled

Best Weight Loss Supplements Research
There are almost always more questions for those of us who want to and need to lose weight than
answers. Which supplements will give me the fastest results? The best weight loss pills are which
ones? For the millions of people who need to lose weight these are two of the most important
questions they ask. There would not be a billion plus dollar industry related to losing weight and

supplements which produce the best results for me. That may seem like too easy of an answer.
However, this is the answer we are all looking to find.
Medications can cause dissimilar reactions for different people because we re not all alike. The DNA
makeup of our bodies, although similar in basic structure, can be vastly different. The best weight loss
pills that work for you may not necessarily work for me because of these differences. A good example
of this would be the effects of caffeine on siblings. Take me and my brother, for instance, caffeine can

loss pills. However, we should be aware of the risks involved when using them. At least you have

The Pharisees
In order to gain a fully comprehensive insight into Jesus Christ, his person and his politics, one must
delve deeper into the historical and social context of His time on earth. Most are aware of the general
details; that he resided in the Galilee and Judea regions, that his birth determined the turn of the first
century, and that he interacted with various cultural and social forces. The parties with which he was
involved were depicted frequently throughout the bible most notably the Jews, Gentiles, Sadducees,
Romans, Zealots and Pharisees.
What most are unaware of is that the latter, the Pharisees, have been highly questioned and criticised

They believed that their laws and spirituality should be a social force and thus were open to a doctrinal
development of Traditions of the Fathers non biblical laws and customs believed to have been passed
down through the generations. These teachings supplemented the written Torah and were part of what
the Rabbis later would call the Oral Law. (Schiffman, 1994: 77)
They considered each of the laws and tradition which were canonized in Pentateuch (444BCE) to be
capable of being expanded to address new circumstances even going so far as to be reinterpreted to
accord with uprising belief systems. New meanings would assure relevancy within society by
allowing the Torah to be amended by this Oral Law, providing the Pharisees with the ability to adapt
and develop in society, and become progressively popular and respected. They believed the Torah and
their Tradition (Oral Law) to be of equal authority, and for any application of Oral Law to carry a

Essay On The Bombing Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki
August 6, 1945 was the day that hit Japan hard and also helped stop the Second World War. That was
the day that Harry S. Truman decided the only way to stop the war was to drop the first atomic bomb
on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in attempt to get Japan to surrender. The bomb went down in history as
one of the biggest bombings. The bombings in both cities affected many Japanese citizens, mentally
and physically. The bombings didn t only affect citizens in Japan, both others who wondered if
bombing the two cities was the right thing to do. Even to this day, there is debate on whether Japan
would have surrendered without the bombings, or if the bombings made them surrender.
In May 1945, Germany had surrendered and the only countries fighting was America and Japan.
America wanted an unconditional surrender, and Japan was not wanting to give in to that. Harry S.
Truman, the president at the time, had the tough decision of whether to bomb the Japanese cities of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki or not. If he bombed them, they would have no choice, but to surrender, yet it
would injure thousands of citizens. Truman had decided to do it. On the 6th day in August, the ...

With no sure way to tell if they would surrender unconditionally, Truman dropped the bombs to end
the war quickly. However, there was claims that Japan was on the verge of surrender when the bombs

Social Mobility and Woman vs. Lady in Victorian Soceity
Social Mobility and Woman vs. Lady in Victorian Soceity
The transformation of English society during the Victorian era brought with it numerous industrial,
cultural, as well as social changes. The overwhelming influx of population from rural to urban areas
and the various new job opportunities created by factories and London?s sudden shift to industrialism
affected not only the public, but also the personal lives of its residents. A new class system had begun
to form, beginning with the emergence of a new middle class. Women were especially affected by this,
because as they were expected to live off of their husbands and thrive solely on society and their own
families, it became increasingly important to marry well and remain in high ... Show more content on

The dissimilarities between a lower class bride and her upper class in laws also mirror the major
differences between a ?woman? and the more favored ?lady?. Can there be a choice of agency
between a delicate, consumptive maid, fatigued with her day s hard work, and a buxom, well
constituted lady, whose greatest exertion has been a drive in the park and the handing to her man a few
cards to be left at friends doors? The one is a servant, the other a lady; and physiogical conditions
stand nowhere in the face of such divine distinctions? (The Victorian Web).
A woman was poorly kept, did her own housework, and took care of her own children. She was most
often a part of the female population in urban areas, and was almost always of low social status. A
woman may have had to work alongside her husband in a factory to help feed her family, and was not
formally educated in academics or social etiquette. A lady, on the other hand, hardly ever did her own
work. She dressed well, spoke well, and entertained well. She was well educated and well maintained,
and always dressed in the finest of fabrics and carried herself like royalty. Her children were taken
care of by governesses (who were, of course, just women themselves) and this lady was nearly always
a member of upper, or upper middle class. One of the grand appeals of marrying well was the
possibility of becoming a lady?but

The Field Of Mental Health Counseling
Introduction
Burnout in the field of Mental Health Counseling is a serious concern for everyone involved, whether
the person is just beginning their journey, or if they are a seasoned veteran with years of experience.
Unless, the person has a prevention plan in place and adds it into their busy schedule and does not
stray from their commitment of their self care program. It is easy when we get busy to skip a day here
and there and the next thing you know we have not taken care of ourselves for a month or longer.
Once we permit ourselves to neglect our self care program the symptoms of burnout and begin to
develop very quickly. Personally, I believe with a good self care program, it is easier to circumvent
burnout, then it is to overcome it once you are in its grips. Here are some of the things I implement
into my schedule to help myself from becoming burnt out.
Personal Care Mentally, Physically, Emotionally
As a student pursuing a career in the field of Mental Health Counseling, while I was attending classes
in my undergraduate program self care was a regular topic that was brought up. Over half of the
professors would stress the seriousness of burnout and the need to begin a self care program while still
a student. Fortunately, prior to entering college, I unknowingly began a self care program, a few times
a week I participate in 12 step meetings. At the meetings, I have several close friends that I can talk to

Causes And Effects Of Global Warming
Causes and Effects of Global Warming
Global warming is the heating of the earth at an unnatural pace due to humans. The world regularly
undergoes eras of warming and cooling, the current event is due to humans and is happening more
rapidly than ever before. Bill Freedman (2014) stated that, ...increases in global temperatures are due
to human activity (i.e., not due to solar variations, volcanic activity, cyclic warming or cooling trends,
etc.) ... This means that the warming of the earth is only global warming when it is caused by humans.
Currently, according to past trends on Earth, the planet is supposed to be undergoing a cooling, but
because of global warming the earth is on a heating trend. Global warming is caused by the Industrial
Revolution, increased greenhouse gases, and deforestation and impacts the world by raising
temperatures, melting polar ice caps, rising sea levels, and the extinction of species and the harm of
humans.
Causes of Global Warming
Global warming is a growing problem and if it is left alone, it will ruin the Earth. The main cause of
global warming is the industrialization of the world; this began with the Industrial Revolution in the
seventeenth century. The Industrial Revolution was the beginning of an era with machines, which lead
to mass production, and more jobs. It allowed countries to produce higher quality products in less
time. This was the switch from rural, agricultural towns to larger, urbanized cities. The

The Importance Of Animals In Agony
Animals are pretty chill.
They do a lot for us too, dogs help police sniff out illegal drugs, sea lions are monitoring climate
change in the ocean and bees help grow our planet. Dogs have a sense of smell that is 1000 times
stronger than the average human.
Which is like woah.
With their strong sense of smell, detection dogs are used to help find drugs, contraband, blood, etc.
which helps the police keep us safe. Sea lions that are trained to monitor the ocean have sensors
attached to their fur and they go deep in the ocean and track water pressure and temperature. Bees are
pretty sweet as they provide us with honey, also they pollinate about ⅓ of what we eat and most plants
in our world which is kind of important too. So many animals like these help our environment and us
people.
There is one more important thing animals have done for us that has greatly affected our health, they
have participated in animal testing.
Animals in Agony?
Many people think animals that are being used to test drugs are abused and tortured therefore they
need to be saved.
First of all.
How do they know that? Are they there with the animals? Did an animal send them a secret message
telling them that they need to be saved? No. Contrary to what the vegans might believe, the
researchers testing these animals aren t evil people who are sadistic and enjoy torturing animals. They
actually care for the animals and are very humane to them.

Compare And Contrast Napoleon Bonaparte And Sundiata
Napoleon and Sundiata
Two leaders, both prominent in their own respect, Napoleon Bonaparte, and the legendary Sundiata,
were important figures in their time. Napoleon, who helped restore France to a superpower, and
perhaps the only time in history France could be considered a world power, or at least a country that is
successful in war, led the French Army to many victories until the fateful and historic Battle of
Waterloo, in which he suffered a defeat that he never fully recovered from. Sundiata, born a cripple,
and deemed unfit for anything but a life of mediocrity by his peers, became a great warrior, a great
leader, through his determination and wit, and through his spite for those who shamed his weaknesses
and failed to see his potential. Both had a lasting impact in their ... Show more content on

He won the French many victories, reformed France economically and socially in ways that not only
still influence France today, but influenced much of Europe, and broadly, the rest of the world.
Sundiata, although much of his achievements are uncertain, was, in theory and tale, very similar to
Napoleon in that he started from the bottom of the heap and fought his way up, as well as that they
were both well respected in their leadership. However, there are a few key differences that I will
mention further into this paper. Sundiata Keita, more often called Sundiata, was born in Niani, Guinea,
in 1190. He was born into the royal family, the rulers of Mandinka (present day Guinea), was labeled
as crippled by those around him because he could not walk, and was very physically inept until around
the age of ten. The only reason for Sundiata marrying a woman as unattractive as Sundiata s mother
was an apparent prophecy, in which Sundiata was

The Government s Energy Star Program
EFFICIENT WASHING MACHINES
INTRODUCTION
The federal government s energy star program was established in 1992 by the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). This program is voluntary and started in order to save businesses and
families save money. This program has many companies investing in energy efficient projects to help
boost the market. While promoting these products, the energy star program also helps to reduce energy
consumption and pollution. Along with saving energy, it helps to reduce greenhouse gases. Reducing
the greenhouse gases contributes to the health of individuals and the environment surrounding them.
This will hopefully control the climate changes brought on by the emission of such gases and
strengthen our economy (Energy Star, 2014).
BODY
High efficiency washing machines help families cut energy and water costs (Energy Star, 2014). These
machines are front or top loading with a larger tub capacity. Families are able to wash fewer loads
which enables them to use less water. Companies continue working on their models to save more
money. Washers made after 2003 are more efficient. If your washer is more than ten years old, you
should look into purchasing a newer model (Energy Star, 2014). Washing machines did not earn the
Energy Star label until 1997 (Mother Earth News, 2010). When comparing the how much energy the
models use, you need to look at the yellow EnergyGuide label. This tells you how much energy each

Night by Elie Wiesel and Hiroshima by John Hersey
Often, we find ourselves facing dramatic and even traumatic events in our lives that force us to re
think and redefine ourselves. These extraordinary circumstances test the human limits and push us into
making life altering decisions. It is at times like these that the humanity in us, our personalities, either
fall apart leaving us nothing but a hollow shell, or transforms into a stronger, evolved form gleaming
with compassion and self sacrifice. Night written by Elie Wiesel and Hiroshima written by John
Hersey portray how every day life might un expectantly change, how frail life really is, and how these
unexpected changes test what is inside us. Both books tell the tale of how lives of civilians were
interrupted by the events of World War II, what tragedies these people had to undergo, and how the
horrific circumstances of war were sometimes able to bring out the best in ordinary people.
In the book Hiroshima the author illustrates this city s most tragic point in history as well as its
residence s lives before, during, and after the horrific drop of the atomic bomb. The pain of over one
hundred thousand lives were compressed and expressed through six different stories told by this
reporter. The extreme range of direction their lives take can be seen by the contrasting examples
between Miss Toshiko Sasaki and Dr. Masakazu Fuji. Toshiko Sasaki began as a clerk before the
bombing happened; she was deeply into her family and even had a fiancé. On August 6th of 1945 the

Disadvantages Of Travel Nursing
The scope of nursing clinical practice goes beyond the treatment of a patient s illness, but is altruistic
in nature; however, the dearth of nursing staff in hospitals has created a caveat in quality of care
motivating the use of travel nursing agencies. To alleviate the health disparities between U.S.
geographic locations, agencies contract nurses through attractive recruiting processes. The
qualifications required for travel nursing and the rationale behind this subset in the nursing profession
will be further corroborated, as well as the consequent quality of life for patients, traveling nurses, and
permanent working staffs affected by travel nursing agencies.
As has been noted, agencies recruit potential travel nurses for temporary assignments. The allure of
being paid to travel to a new location every few weeks is enough for most nurses to want to sign with
a traveling agency, but these agencies ensure their acquisition by incentive. In an online article, Loree
(2016) describes grand prizes the aspiring traveling nurse could potentially obtain; however, the only
prerequisite is having been or currently being employed with a specific health care agency (para. 4 5).
The enticement of additional compensations increases the likelihood of the nurse to enter into the
traveling subset and specifically with said agency. These methods implemented are not to be confused
with the idea that agencies are subservient to the nurses for potential hire, for the nurses must meet

Designer babies is a very controversial topic for many reasons And for some people it can be a good
thing or a bad thing. What i designer baby is you might ask? Well its name designer babies is not
really it s official name. It s a procedure in which the fetus or embryo is created in fertilization in
which sometimes is because of its lack of certain genes. And they have a procedure in which they
modify the embryo by gene engineering. Designer babies to some are viewed as an awful thing or
playing god mostly because of their beliefs or simply because they feel as though it should be left
alone. Others believe that it is a good thing and that it can help with a lot of things. I am going to be
explaining how it can be both a good thing and bad thing or in this case, pros and cons of it ... Show

And if this is successful it can lead to a better understanding of genetics which can lead to a better
understanding of more positive things to improve on the human life. Another good think about
designer babies is that it can reduce risks of diseases which can prevent future deaths caused by
diseases, And with that it can also reduce inherited medical conditions for example obesity, and
cancer. And most of all it is not mandatory meaning if you do not wish to have your baby enhanced, in
any way you don t have to.
That overall is all the pros. Now heading into the cons, first off is the biggest concern that many
people have with this, is that if not done correctly it can cause defects. Or much worse death to the
baby, the process is not entirely safe. Or the parents could use this for changing the baby s appearance
for intentional purposes such as wanting their baby s eyes to be green or blue which may be a problem
since it s for superficial

The Prevalence of Younger Students Lying to Health...
Communication is a functional, purposeful, and strategic aspect of human socialization. Individuals
have the ability make conscious decisions to control their expressive language to manipulate the
perceived interpretations of others (Burgoon, Callister, Hunsaker, 445). As people acquire language,
they develop sensitivity to the Gricean maxims of conversation. The first of these maxims is Quantity
I , or the failure to provide enough information. The second of these maxims is Quantity II , or the
provision of too much or redundant information. The third of these maxims is Quality , or veracity
(Siegal, Iozzi, and Surian, 2009). These three Gricean maxims of conversation alone encompass the
prevalence of various forms of lying in the context of human communication. The significance of
lying is that it can change various outcomes that negatively impact various circumstances. In the realm
of health care, patients may lie to health professionals for a number of reasons including to acquire
unnecessary or excessive medications, to avoid embarrassment or judgment, and to reduce expensive
medical charges that may accumulate over time. No matter how well intentioned the doctor faced with
a patient in need of help may be, it is he who has the advantage resulting from the knowledge he has
(the truth) and his skills: a disproportion occurs between these two parties (Tanasiewicz, 2005, 16).
Regardless of the motivation patients may have for lying, they may be jeopardizing

The Journey Of Mansa Musa Dbq
One journey, thousands of pounds of gold, thousands of slaves and servants, a hundred camels, and
one man spread the Islamic religion for a hajj of four thousand miles. The journey of Mansa Musa was
a famous trip that stretched from the ancient city of Mali to Mecca, the birthplace of Islam. Mansa
Musa, a rich, prosperous man who took advantage of situations to benefit himself, not only wanted to
spread Islam throughout his hajj, but to show off his wealth, to give compulsorily, and accumulate
trade partners. The journey of Mansa Musa was a long and famous journey that took place in the
northern part of Africa. However, the journey was not just a religious venture, but one to show off
Mansa Musa s wealth, to establish trade partners, and to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mansa Musa brought over ten thousand personal slaves as well as entertainers, flag bearers, guards,
and other extravagant people (Document A). One does not need even over a thousand personal slaves
for an estimated 2,000 miles long journey. Nor does one need flag bearers or musicians. Mansa Musa
brought so many slaves and servants to show common folk how rich he was and how much power he
held. The poorer people who saw him on his hajj would then spread the word of Mansa Musa s wealth
and power. Mansa Musa went on the journey to establish trade partners, such as with a village called
Taghaza. Taghaza was a village far north of the original trade route. Mansa Musa went out of his way
to a small village that consisted of slaves and mines. The salt mines were precisely the reason why
Mansa Musa stopped at Taghaza. Salt was needed for taste, nutrition, dehydration, and food
preservation. It was literally worth its weight in gold (Document B). Because salt was such a valuable
import, Mansa Musa was willing to travel out of his way to become trade partners with a small
village. Mansa Musa went on his hajj to give alms to the poorer people of the

A Summary Of Misogyny In Henry IV Part 1
In Henry IV Part 1, Shakespeare introduces two relationships that seem to be polar opposites of each
other, the married couple, Hotspur and Lady Percy and the newly wedded couple, Mortimer and Lady
Mortimer. Even though Lady Percy and Lady Mortimer did not have key roles in the play they were
significant to the portrayal of their male counterparts and Shakespeare s portrayal of misogyny in the
late 16th century. In the Elizabethan era, women were considered second class citizens, and weren t
allowed the same rights as men, and that misogynistic behavior resulted in many unhappy marriages.
In Shakespeare s play, Mortimer and Lady Mortimer are the only characters with a happy relationship
because they don t exhibit the same sexist attitude as the other characters; while Hotspur and Lady
Percy s relationship is an example of how England s misogynistic attitude resulted in an unhappy
marriage. Lady Percy and Hotspur s marriage is an example of misogyny because, even though
Hotspur is married to Kate, he refuses to treat her as his equal and instead insults her when she shows
concern for his strange behavior. When Lady Percy questions Hotspur s behavior, Hotspur tells her
that:
But hark you, Kate, I must not have you henceforth question me whither I go, nor reason whereabout.
Whither I must, I must, and to conclude, this evening must I leave you, gentle Kate. I know you wise,
but yet no farther wise than Harry Percy s wife. Constant you are, but yet a woman; and for secrecy no

Paleo Diet And Traditions
Paleo eating is eating the primal way, but the benefits of the Paleo diet are awesome. People get into
the Paleo diet for different reasons, and it affects them in different ways. They experience different
changes in their figures, their moods and their energy, but many of them agree that the Paleo diet made
them feel good. Here is a list of the benefits of the Paleo diet.
Food is unprocessed and it is real. You eat real whole foods when you diet the Paleo/primal way. You
ll have to much some packaged or bottled sauces, ingredients and condiments sometimes, but they are
natural. That s why with the Paleo diet, you eliminate taking in a hefty amount of preservatives,
additives, hidden sugars, sodium and artificial colorings and flavourings.

Essay on The Progressive Reformers
Reform was the goal of the Progressive movement, and with that in mind the reformers had great
success. Progressive reformers were made up primarily of middle class men and women whose two
main goals were to limit the trusts and to improve conditions of life and labor. These people were part
of both political parties at the time, as well as in all regions of the country, and in all levels of the
government. They wanted to remove bribed members of the legislature so that just laws and
regulations were made that would benefit the people rather than the power hungry corporations. This
major movement altered all aspects of life creating a better living and working environment for
people. The Progressive Era reformers and federal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So finally in 1913, Congress passed the 17th amendment that called for the direct election of United
States senators. Also Congress would later pass the 19th amendment which allowed women s suffrage,
or the ability to vote. Also states and people began to use the secret Australian ballot to keep the
privacy of the voters. Before, big bosses and companies used to be able to scare or buy people to vote
for whom they wanted, but now people could vote without the fear of being connected to their ballot.
With people now voting anonymously, these businesses no longer as successful as before for they
could no longer tell for whom the bribed were actually voting for. In the bar graph, it shows the
gradual decrease in the number of voters who voted for the presidency (Document J). this showed how
people were no longer being bribed or forced to vote for whomever the businesses wanted. This called
for more fair and impartial elections for such important offices in the government. In the Washington
Post 1907 article, Roosevelt is shown standing over a dead bear of bad trusts (Document A). This
demonstrated Roosevelt s attempted to rid the country of bad trusts for the good of the people. Also
these reformers made great strides in the social component of the country. The people of the
Progressive Era morphed society into a more sanitary and enhanced place. Social matters of the
country had just begun to play a major

John K. Labatt And The London Brewery Company
John Labatt (1838 1915), businessman and third son of John K. Labatt and Eliza Kell of Westminster
Township, Upper Canada. In 1866, under terms of his father s will, John succeeded in the control of
operations of the London Brewery Company. John K. Labatt had entered the alcoholic beverage
industry in 1947 with $2000 investment made along with his partner Samuel Eccels. Labatt Sr. was
able to acquire Eccels half of the business upon retirement in 1854, leaving sole proprietorship to the
Labatt Family. Prior to the junior Labatt s accession, his father had sent him to learn the trade under
George Smith, a successful English brewer and family friend in West Virginia in 1859. It was there
where Labatt was cultivated on the process of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no denying the achievements of John Labatt, his strengths or the innovations he was able to
bring to the consumers and the Canadian brewing industry. However, like many Canadian
entrepreneurs being introduced to industrialization in the late nineteenth century, there were also many
setbacks that came along with those successes. In the case of John Labatt, the question ultimately
becomes whether his gifts were ideally suited to be sole proprietor? Or whether a partner with
alternative business skills would have prevented some of the financial difficulties the company faced
toward the end of the century?
This paper concedes John s Labatt s accomplishments as a skilled engineer in his trade of brewing.
[Having] a sense his water would suit the production of the India pale ale formula he brought back
with him from West Virginia was an intuitive geographical exploitation of his resources. This
examination would also like to acknowledge the tactfulness and innovation displayed by John Labatt s
ability to brand and market. For example, his strategic use of a Labatt logo that resembled Bass s red
triangle was an ingenious way of stimulating British colonizers to free associate with a recognizable
beer brand from back home. On the other hand, Labatt on more than one occasion failed to make
adequate decisions that inevitably

King Leopolds Ghost Analysis
Adam Hochschild s King Leopold s Ghost is an account of a man s rise of power who was very cruel
and did unimaginable things. When I began reading, I wasn t sure where the novel was going, but I
soon caught on to what Hochschild was revealing. As the story begins to unfold he tells a story of
King Leopold II of Belgium who managed to seize land next to the Congo River in Africa. King
Leopold used political manipulation and lies to get what he wanted. King Leopold had everyone
fooled that he was a humanitarian and he was in the Congo for the greater good, but that was not the
case. He claimed that civilizing the Congo would keep out Arab slave traders to gain support of
people, but Leopold wanted something else. Leopold was very ... Show more content on

For example, if the men were not meeting his standards they often held women hostage and raped
them to ensure productivity was sufficient. Although, innocent blood was being spilled and they even
cut limbs some people and surprising part is Leopold never set foot in the free state . Hoshschild even
makes the comment that there was something very modern about that (Hochschild 4). King Leopold II
had no human respect, and his own family had barley anything to do with him. I personally don t
understand how someone could stand to look themselves in the mirror after doing such horrible things,
and it shows how far people would go for wealth.
Throughout the book Hochschild shows the dedication of Morel, and major roles that characters
played to shape the history of the Congo like Stanley, and William Sheppard (who was one of the most
outspoken out of all American Congo missionaries.) The author examined the Congo because it shows
how extreme colonialism is and what it was like for people that were under a colonial rule. I think this
book has a clear meaning and thesis, Hochschild wanted to expose what happened in the Congo
because he felt like it had been covered up and he wanted to paint the readers a picture that they would
never forget. My theory is I don t believe that King Leopold was there for the greater good and to
better the Congolese people. I think it s obvious from

Key Tips For Start Guitar Players
So you re thinking about learning guitar? Maybe your in your first few days and can t quite get your
fingers to reach all the strings at the same time. Perhaps you are having trouble getting the rhythm you
want. Well in this article I am going to give you a few key tips for beginning guitar players that will
hopefully help you. Playing guitar is something that most people would like to be able to do. Just
about everyone likes the sound and anyone who can play, instantly becomes popular simply because
of that. Now, there are some people who are naturally gifted musicians and can pick up any instrument
and learn it. However there is hope even for those of us who are not! Anyone can learn guitar with a
little bit of discipline and practice. Which is tip number one: Practice every day! If you practice every
day, even if only ten minutes, you will very soon see results. You re fingers will begin to get callused
and not hurt when you play. They will become more limber and your rhythm will improve as well.
Keep in mind that no great musician started great. They had to learn and practice hard into order to get
to the level of playing skill that they have today. So don t expect to be there in your first week, or even
first month. Tip number two is for learning rhythm. I have found that the best way to do so is to pick
just one simple song with a simple rhythm. Then practice only that song until you have mastered the
rhythm. It may take a little while and it may be frustrating

Franklin Delano Roosevelt And The New York
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born in Hyde Park, NY on January 30, 1882. He grew up extremely
wealthy and homeschooled until he was fourteen. However, in 1896 he attended Groton School for
boys, a prestigious prep school. He graduated in 1900 and went on to study at Harvard where he
received a degree in only three years. He met his wife and fifth cousin Eleanor during this time and
they were married on March 17, 1905. After he got married he studied law at Columbia University of
Law and passed the bar exam in 1907. Following law school, he practiced law for 3 years before
deciding that it was boring and moved on to bigger and better things, such as politics. At age 28 he
was invited to run for the New York State Senate in 1910. He ran as ... Show more content on

of support. He stayed where he was for a few years and in 1920 accepted the nomination of Vice
President to James M. Cox, who was defeated by Warren G. Harding, but FDR gained national
exposure. He contracted polio shortly after this and took a few years to recover believing that his
political career was over. However, he continued with encouragement from his wife. He helped Alfred
E. Smith win the election for governor of New York in 1922, and in 1924 was a strong supporter of
Smith against his cousin, Republican Theodore Roosevelt. Franklin Roosevelt gave nominating
speeches for Smith at the 1924 and 1928 Democratic conventions; the speech at the 1924 election
marked a return to public life following his illness and in 1928 he was elected the governor of New
York, during which Roosevelt maintained contacts and mended fences with the Democratic Party,
although he had initially made his name as an opponent of New York City s Tammany Hall machine,
which typically controlled Democratic Party nominations and political patronage in Manhattan.
Roosevelt moderated his stance

  • 2. The Grand Canyon National Park Grand Canyon National Park Army Lieutenant Joseph Christmas Ives was the first American to ever lay eyes on the Grand Canyon. He deemed it altogether valueless , and he believed that ours has been the first and will undoubtedly be the last, party of whites to visit the locality. It seems intended by nature that the Colorado River along the greater portion of its lonely and majestic way, shall be forever unvisited and disturbed (Powell, 3 4). Looking out at the vast beauty of the Grand Canyon, he was sure that it would never have any importance, and nobody would want to see it. Today, Grand Canyon National Park is one of the greatest and most well known natural landmarks in all of the United States. The Grand Canyon is considered one of the 7 Wonders of the Natural World. Within its cracks and bends, the Grand Canyon tells a story of the Native American people, and the roots and history of our nation. The Grand Canyon is essentially surrounded by various Native American tribes and reservations, including the Navajo Nation Reservation. The Navajo Nation Reservation, spans 27,000 square miles and spreads across three states: Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. Within its borders lies monuments, national parks, and of course, Navajo people living traditional lifestyles. This brings in modern day tourists into the reservations which are a different world within our own, where they don t have electricity and they live closely kindred lives with nature. • 3. Feed Essay On Technology In the novel Feed written by M.T. Anderson, the futuristic world the novel is set in a continually evolving and the characters are overcoming challenges in the technological society. This book focuses on the deteriorating world due to technological advances. The most important technological advancement is the feed that the corporations in the future will create. The feed contributes to how people participate in everyday activities. Only people who can afford one are able to have a feed implant. It is a parallel to today s modern use of technology and cellular devices. Titus, the protagonist, is a teenager that comes from a wealthy family and is he grows up extremely privileged. He and his friends go to the moon for spring break. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The feed corporation preferred people to have the device implanted into the brain as a baby because the brain was still developing and changing which allowed the brain to grow properly with the feed. When Violet was young her mom left her father and Violet s father had to get by with very little and also care for Violet. Violet s dad finally saves up the money to afford a feed for her. Violet communication skills are more ingenious due to growing up in a different atmosphere. She met Titus while on the moon and they grew closer. Later, Titus meets her father and when Violet and Titus were leaving, he looked at her and says, I didn t understand a single thing he said (Anderson 137). Titus grew up exposed to relying on the feed for many ways of communicating. When Violet s father spoke with a broad vocabulary, Titus did not know what he was attempting to say to him due to the feed manipulating the English language to be as simple as possible. In Gooding s article about the novel Feed, he perceives Violet s father as being the most acutely aware of the interplay of technological and economic forces that has turned America into a nation of impatient adolescents (Gooding). Gooding is implying that Violet s father has lived without a feed his entire life and over the years he has observed how it has impacted the younger generations and how the technology is dominating society and daily living. ... • 4. Jane And Finch Sociology The generalization of crime and violence in Jane and Finch has earned the neighbourhood a negative reputation. The media s depiction of the area is a community corrupted by: violence, drugs, gangs and poverty. This has left an undesirable image of suffering, as a result of living in the Jane Finch community. Society has deemed the community an unsafe place to live and grow up in. The media s scrutiny only portray negative stereotypes about the area and has not grasped Jane and finch as it actually is. What is the actuality of Jane and finch? Jane and Finch is the best community in the world because it is a diverse multicultural area, has the hardest working civilians and a low crime rate. Toronto is the largest city in Canada and forth largest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jane and Finch has been labelled a bad community, driven by: gang wars, drugs and gun violence. Many Torontonians avoid the community in fear of being physically harmed. This is due to the media s generalization of crime and violence within the Jane and Finch. They only portray the negative events that occur within the communities boarders. But, Jane and Finch has shown remarkable improvement. Criminal activity has continuously dropped in recent years. For example: assault occurrences dropped from 418 in 2008 to 299 in 2011, breaking and entering incidents dropped from 193 in 2007 to 84 in 2011, stolen vehicles declined 145 in 2006 to 37 in 2011. The media makes Jane and Finch seem like the most dangerous place in Toronto. However, other communities within the Greater Toronto Area have higher criminal rate compared to Jane and Finch. A prime example would be the West Humber Clairville community, with 390 reported assaults in 2011, 175 breaking and entering incidents in 2011 and 288 stolen vehicles in 2011. The West Humber Clairville community had higher crime activity in every category than Jane and finch, and not only them other communities as well, such as: Bay Street, Yorkdale Glen Park, etc. The media s constant exposure of crime within the Jane Finch community have made it seem like the worst place in Toronto, but, in reality other places are more ... • 5. Comparing Tomi And Keet In House Of The Red Fish When using the Double Bubble Map method to compare two subjects, there are three sides. The similarities, and the different things about the subjects. In this case, the subjects were Tomi and Keet, the main characters of House of The Red Fish. One of the many differences between Tomi and Keet is that Tomi is determined to get his father s fishing sampan to the surface, but Keet is adamant about keeping it at the bottom of the canal where it lays. The Double Bubble Map is convenient because it keeps your notes organized, you can also virtually compare any two things, and lastly it s a fun alternative to taking dull notes. • 6. Sherlock Holmes Double Deduction Essay To Sherlock Holmes she is always the woman. I have seldom heard him mention her under any other name. In his eyes she eclipses and predominates the whole of her sex. It was not that he felt any emotion akin to love for Irene Adler. All emotions, and that one particularly, were abhorrent to his cold, precise but admirably balanced mind. He was, I take it, the most perfect reasoning and observing machine that the world has seen, but as a lover he would have placed himself in a false position. He never spoke of the softer passions, save with a gibe and a sneer. They were admirable things for the observer excellent for drawing the veil from men s motives and actions. But for the trained reasoner to admit such intrusions into his own delicate and finely adjusted temperament was to introduce a distracting factor which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I could not help laughing at the ease with which he explained his process of deduction. When I hear you give your reasons, I remarked, the thing always appears to me to be so ridiculously simple that I could easily do it myself, though at each successive instance of your reasoning I am baffled until you explain your process. • 8. House On Mango Street Entrapment Theme We all have had times where we have felt trapped, times where we have been cornered, with no escape. Times where we have felt entrapped. Entrapment makes you feel like you have no way out or like there are no choices that can be made. In the book The House on Mango Street, the author, Sandra Cisneros has a theme of entrapment; the theme is shown through the symbol of windows which represents freedom, something that women in the book were not granted, the author was showing us that freedom is a privilege and not something to take for granted. The windows show the outside world, showing you what lies beyond the four walls which you are stuck between. Many cases throughout the book result in a woman s character being trapped and not being able to leave the house they are in. The women then result in looking out the windows only to dream about leaving. She looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their sadness on an elbow (11). The main character s grandmother was trapped in her own house, her husband had stripped her of her freedom and was enable to leave. Arguments For Favor Of Marriage Her arguments in favor of marriage, though demonstrating a hearty common sense, are also suspect while it is true that marriage peoples the earth and replenishes existing stocks of virginitee , her own marriages do not seem to have produced any offspring, and while it may be her marriages, despite her claim that, do not seem to have prevented her from which is after all what marriage was, according to her, supposed to prevent. Moreover, from the account she gives of her marriages, it becomes increasingly obvious that marriage (with her, at least) is not quite so beneficial as one might think the only benefit the husbands get, in exchange for their purgatorie , is that of her with the possible exception of Jankin, who satisfied her better than but it is worth observing that she never speaks of the sexual act as giving the male partner pleasure on the contrary, she speaks of the husband s dette to his wife, Also, while she claims Biblical support for her views on marriage, the support that she cites is conveniently edited to suit her purposes (for example, Solomon did have 700 wives and 300 concubines but his appetites led to his turning away from God; and the marital relationship specified in the Bible is a reciprocal one rather than the one sided one she speaks of, tilted in favour of the wife she conveniently ignores that while the he also exhorts women to love their husbands), and she elsewhere ignores the Bible when it proves difficult to glose ... • 10. Feminist Theory Feminism refers to political, cultural, and economic movements aimed at establishing greater rights, legal protection for women, and or women s liberation. It includes some of the sociological theories and philosophies concerned with issues of gender difference. Nancy Cott defines feminism as the belief in the importance of gender equality, invalidating the idea of gender hierarchy as a socially constructed concept. Feminism has earned itself a bad reputation, but it never undermined gender differences that exist between males and females. A man can never be as good a mother as a female can. They challenge the assumption that gender oppression is the primary force of patriarchy. They object to portrayals of women of non Western societies as passive and voiceless victims and the portrayal of Western women as modern, educated, and empowered. Today, they struggle to fight gender oppression within their own cultural models of society rather than through those imposed by the Western colonizers. They, thus, react against both universalizing tendencies in Western feminist thought and a lack of attention to gender issues in mainstream postcolonial thought. Some postcolonial feminists, such as Chandra Talpade Mohanty and Black feminists, such as Angela Davis and Alice Walker, are critical of Western feminism for being ethnocentric. Chandra Talpade Mohanty criticizes Western feminism on the ground that it does not take into account the unique experiences of women from third world countries or the existence of feminisms indigenous to third world countries. This discourse is strongly related to African feminism and is also associated with concepts such as black feminism, womanism, Africana womanism, motherism, Stiwanism, negofeminism, chicana feminism, and femalism. • 12. Authoritarian Technologies In The Whale And The Reactor Although Ursula Franklin and Langdon Winner both classify technology in different ways, they bring up many similar points regarding the intersection of power and technology in our everyday life. Franklin s theory of technology as practice categorizes technology as either prescriptive or holistic in The Real World of Technology, which correlates well with Winner s idea of technology being created with either authoritarian or democratic motives in The Whale and the Reactor. After reading both arguments, a clear correlation can be made between holistic/democratic technologies and prescriptive/authoritarian technologies as a way to describe power in our society. Franklin uses the term technology to define ways of doing something. To her, holistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Franklin s idea of a prescriptive technology is any process that has been broken down into steps, where workers specialize in only one step. These technologies require discipline and planning, and are designed for compliance (Franklin, 1999). She uses Chinese bronze making to show how each step involves different people, because if they weren t completed properly, the process couldn t continue. Similarly, Winner s view on authoritarian technology in that objects can either be designed to assist those with a hidden agenda to establish patterns of power and authority (Winner, 1986) or that new technologies or some of their qualities can be strongly or specifically linked to parties who are trying to create a need for authority or power. Both of these arguments highlight that these technologies now dominate society, and are no longer restricted to mainly material production. They can be found in administrative and economic activities as well as many aspects governance. Technology can now control where we can and cannot go, removing the need to make decisions. He used the construction of overpasses in New York as an example of this. To control who was able to get into the city, overpasses were built low so only cars (owned by white people in the middle and upper class) could get in and those who took public transit (poor people and racial minorities) could not, limiting the amount of low income citizens. This also shows that new technologies can be created for one purpose (transportation) to disguise hidden motives (controlling the demographic of a population). Franklin also acknowledges this, explaining that although prescriptive technologies have brought us many important products, raised living standards and increased well being, they have also created a culture of compliance (Franklin, 1999). Winner and Franklin both show a concern for these types of technologies, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Real Estate Industry Is An Industry The real estate industry is an industry where consumers can purchase, rent, or lease real estate, manage residential, commercial, and industrial properties, and provide other real estate related services, including appraisals (CITATAION). The demand for real estate is driven by economic growth, personal finance, and rates of employment, interest rates, and access to funds. The rapidly grow of financial innovation and technology in the international financial market have encouraged an increase in the significant role of compliance in financial service firms over the last decade. Particularly, aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis, to ensure the financial stability and protect the future crisis, regulators have continued to pay attention on improved requirement of capital and liquidity as well as risk management and corporate governance in the financial intermediary. • 17. How Technological Warfare Could Not Be Considered The... Technological warfare might not be considered the fairest of them all, especially not in this era of warfare advances. Multiple technological advances have been made, and many of them have been made for the purpose of war. A very common technological advance in relation to war is guns, but there is no gun like the CIA s (Central Intelligence Agency) 1970 s Heart Attack Gun. According to Kurt Nimmo of Info Wars, at the point when the heart assault firearm is shot at an individual, the fatal poison from the bullet rapidly enters the circulatory system causing a myocardial infarction. The toxic substance denatures rapidly, so a post mortem is unable to determine the cause of the cardiac arrest. The dart from this complex CIA weapon can penetrate garments and leave only a small red spot on the skin, like that of a mosquito bite. The toxic dart disintegrates to its aggregate in the wake of entering the target. We all know what the purpose of a firearm is, even on the battlefield, but imagine being able to play war off of the battlefield and without arising suspicion. Imagine taking out your enemy without having to be held accountable for it. Well those are the implications of a gun with this much power. Now, moving forward to yet another military rate weapon advancement in technological warfare. Overall, Quiet strength is a memoir of Tony Dungy s life which captures his discovery of what it means to be a Godly leader, on and off the field. In addition, Tony discovers that listening to God as well as those who he has put in his life will give him peace together with wisdom to get through his son s tragic suicide, and media struggles with players Personally, I connected with how Tony portrayed his son s suicide in his book, considering the stigmas tied to suicide. A Godly leader is someone who is humble, of an honorable character, as well as someone who has devoted themselves to God. Tony s siblings are doctors and dentists, due to the nature of their work, Tony is humble since football is just that, football, while his siblings are saving lives. I do not follow sports nor do I understand why people get so caught up in them. I appreciate that someone in the middle of the chaos has the ability to recognize that a game is just a game, that there are more important things. His parents also opened his eyes to ... • 38. The Government s Energy Star Program EFFICIENT WASHING MACHINES INTRODUCTION The federal government s energy star program was established in 1992 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This program is voluntary and started in order to save businesses and families save money. This program has many companies investing in energy efficient projects to help boost the market. While promoting these products, the energy star program also helps to reduce energy consumption and pollution. Along with saving energy, it helps to reduce greenhouse gases. Reducing the greenhouse gases contributes to the health of individuals and the environment surrounding them. This will hopefully control the climate changes brought on by the emission of such gases and strengthen our economy (Energy Star, 2014). BODY High efficiency washing machines help families cut energy and water costs (Energy Star, 2014). These machines are front or top loading with a larger tub capacity. Families are able to wash fewer loads which enables them to use less water. Companies continue working on their models to save more money. Washers made after 2003 are more efficient. If your washer is more than ten years old, you should look into purchasing a newer model (Energy Star, 2014). Washing machines did not earn the Energy Star label until 1997 (Mother Earth News, 2010). • 41. Night by Elie Wiesel and Hiroshima by John Hersey Often, we find ourselves facing dramatic and even traumatic events in our lives that force us to re think and redefine ourselves. These extraordinary circumstances test the human limits and push us into making life altering decisions. It is at times like these that the humanity in us, our personalities, either fall apart leaving us nothing but a hollow shell, or transforms into a stronger, evolved form gleaming with compassion and self sacrifice. Night written by Elie Wiesel and Hiroshima written by John Hersey portray how every day life might un expectantly change, how frail life really is, and how these unexpected changes test what is inside us. Both books tell the tale of how lives of civilians were interrupted by the events of World War II, what tragedies these people had to undergo, and how the horrific circumstances of war were sometimes able to bring out the best in ordinary people. In the book Hiroshima the author illustrates this city s most tragic point in history as well as its residence s lives before, during, and after the horrific drop of the atomic bomb. The pain of over one hundred thousand lives were compressed and expressed through six different stories told by this reporter. The extreme range of direction their lives take can be seen by the contrasting examples between Miss Toshiko Sasaki and Dr. Masakazu Fuji. Toshiko Sasaki began as a clerk before the bombing happened; she was deeply into her family and even had a fiancé. On August 6th of 1945 the bomb ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Disadvantages Of Travel Nursing The scope of nursing clinical practice goes beyond the treatment of a patient s illness, but is altruistic in nature; however, the dearth of nursing staff in hospitals has created a caveat in quality of care motivating the use of travel nursing agencies. To alleviate the health disparities between U.S. geographic locations, agencies contract nurses through attractive recruiting processes. The qualifications required for travel nursing and the rationale behind this subset in the nursing profession will be further corroborated, as well as the consequent quality of life for patients, traveling nurses, and permanent working staffs affected by travel nursing agencies. As has been noted, agencies recruit potential travel nurses for temporary assignments. The allure of being paid to travel to a new location every few weeks is enough for most nurses to want to sign with a traveling agency, but these agencies ensure their acquisition by incentive. In an online article, Loree (2016) describes grand prizes the aspiring traveling nurse could potentially obtain; however, the only prerequisite is having been or currently being employed with a specific health care agency (para. 4 5). The enticement of additional compensations increases the likelihood of the nurse to enter into the traveling subset and specifically with said agency. These methods implemented are not to be confused with the idea that agencies are subservient to the nurses for potential hire, for the nurses must meet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What i designer baby is you might ask? Well its name designer babies is not really it s official name. It s a procedure in which the fetus or embryo is created in fertilization in which sometimes is because of its lack of certain genes. And they have a procedure in which they modify the embryo by gene engineering. Designer babies to some are viewed as an awful thing or playing god mostly because of their beliefs or simply because they feel as though it should be left alone. Others believe that it is a good thing and that it can help with a lot of things. I am going to be explaining how it can be both a good thing and bad thing or in this case, pros and cons of it ... And if this is successful it can lead to a better understanding of genetics which can lead to a better understanding of more positive things to improve on the human life. And most of all it is not mandatory meaning if you do not wish to have your baby enhanced, in any way you don t have to. That overall is all the pros. Now heading into the cons, first off is the biggest concern that many people have with this, is that if not done correctly it can cause defects. Or much worse death to the baby, the process is not entirely safe. Or the parents could use this for changing the baby s appearance for intentional purposes such as wanting their baby s eyes to be green or blue which may be a problem since it s for superficial ... • 44. The Prevalence of Younger Students Lying to Health... Communication is a functional, purposeful, and strategic aspect of human socialization. Individuals have the ability make conscious decisions to control their expressive language to manipulate the perceived interpretations of others (Burgoon, Callister, Hunsaker, 445). As people acquire language, they develop sensitivity to the Gricean maxims of conversation. The first of these maxims is Quantity I , or the failure to provide enough information. The second of these maxims is Quantity II , or the provision of too much or redundant information. The third of these maxims is Quality , or veracity (Siegal, Iozzi, and Surian, 2009). These three Gricean maxims of conversation alone encompass the prevalence of various forms of lying in the context of human communication. The significance of lying is that it can change various outcomes that negatively impact various circumstances. In the realm of health care, patients may lie to health professionals for a number of reasons including to acquire unnecessary or excessive medications, to avoid embarrassment or judgment, and to reduce expensive medical charges that may accumulate over time. No matter how well intentioned the doctor faced with a patient in need of help may be, it is he who has the advantage resulting from the knowledge he has (the truth) and his skills: a disproportion occurs between these two parties (Tanasiewicz, 2005, 16). Regardless of the motivation patients may have for lying, they may be jeopardizing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One does not need even over a thousand personal slaves for an estimated 2,000 miles long journey. Nor does one need flag bearers or musicians. Mansa Musa brought so many slaves and servants to show common folk how rich he was and how much power he held. The poorer people who saw him on his hajj would then spread the word of Mansa Musa s wealth and power. Mansa Musa went on the journey to establish trade partners, such as with a village called Taghaza. Taghaza was a village far north of the original trade route. Mansa Musa went out of his way to a small village that consisted of slaves and mines. The salt mines were precisely the reason why Mansa Musa stopped at Taghaza. Salt was needed for taste, nutrition, dehydration, and food preservation. It was literally worth its weight in gold (Document B). • 46. A Summary Of Misogyny In Henry IV Part 1 In Henry IV Part 1, Shakespeare introduces two relationships that seem to be polar opposites of each other, the married couple, Hotspur and Lady Percy and the newly wedded couple, Mortimer and Lady Mortimer. Even though Lady Percy and Lady Mortimer did not have key roles in the play they were significant to the portrayal of their male counterparts and Shakespeare s portrayal of misogyny in the late 16th century. In the Elizabethan era, women were considered second class citizens, and weren t allowed the same rights as men, and that misogynistic behavior resulted in many unhappy marriages. In Shakespeare s play, Mortimer and Lady Mortimer are the only characters with a happy relationship because they don t exhibit the same sexist attitude as the other characters; while Hotspur and Lady Percy s relationship is an example of how England s misogynistic attitude resulted in an unhappy marriage. Lady Percy and Hotspur s marriage is an example of misogyny because, even though Hotspur is married to Kate, he refuses to treat her as his equal and instead insults her when she shows concern for his strange behavior. When Lady Percy questions Hotspur s behavior, Hotspur tells her that: But hark you, Kate, I must not have you henceforth question me whither I go, nor reason whereabout. Before, big bosses and companies used to be able to scare or buy people to vote for whom they wanted, but now people could vote without the fear of being connected to their ballot. With people now voting anonymously, these businesses no longer as successful as before for they could no longer tell for whom the bribed were actually voting for. However, like many Canadian entrepreneurs being introduced to industrialization in the late nineteenth century, there were also many setbacks that came along with those successes. In the case of John Labatt, the question ultimately becomes whether his gifts were ideally suited to be sole proprietor? Or whether a partner with alternative business skills would have prevented some of the financial difficulties the company faced toward the end of the century? This paper concedes John s Labatt s accomplishments as a skilled engineer in his trade of brewing. When I began reading, I wasn t sure where the novel was going, but I soon caught on to what Hochschild was revealing. As the story begins to unfold he tells a story of King Leopold II of Belgium who managed to seize land next to the Congo River in Africa. King Leopold used political manipulation and lies to get what he wanted. Although, innocent blood was being spilled and they even cut limbs some people and surprising part is Leopold never set foot in the free state . Hoshschild even makes the comment that there was something very modern about that (Hochschild 4). King Leopold II had no human respect, and his own family had barley anything to do with him. I personally don t understand how someone could stand to look themselves in the mirror after doing such horrible things, and it shows how far people would go for wealth. Throughout the book Hochschild shows the dedication of Morel, and major roles that characters played to shape the history of the Congo like Stanley, and William Sheppard (who was one of the most outspoken out of all American Congo missionaries.) The author examined the Congo because it shows how extreme colonialism is and what it was like for people that were under a colonial rule. I think this book has a clear meaning and thesis, Hochschild wanted to expose what happened in the Congo because he felt like it had been covered up and he wanted to paint the readers a picture that they would never forget. My theory is I don t believe that King Leopold was there for the greater good and to better the Congolese people. I think it s obvious from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
