Sports Experiential Marketing
Sports teams and their marketers are utilizing several promotional strategies to keep the fans excited
and entertained during their sporting events. We have a minor league baseball team here in
Greensboro, North Carolina, The Grasshoppers. It is ironic; I just notice the change in the teams
scheduled events a week ago. As I read the sports business journal article, How to best use your bait a
light bulb lit up and I was like oh, ok. I understand why they moved fireworks back to Friday, and
Concerts are popping up at the stadium now. At any rate, fans are enjoying the added events and
primary give always during the week: below I explain some of the promotional strategies that are
increasing attendance all over.
In the sports business journal article How to use the bait the writer stated that major league baseball
teams were moving their bobble head events back during the week. Teams are also increasing concerts
and festivals during the weekend s increasing attendance and filling up stadiums. I experienced this
trend with my favorite minor league baseball team. Saturday night games were fireworks nights; my
family and I were always excited about the firework experience, I am sure other fans were just as
excited also. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Experiential marketing explained in the sports business journal article Engaging in the crowds creates
an emotional response from the consumer that will eventually lead to a purchase, brand loyalty and a
referral.
Crocs footwear is an example of experiential marketing; they grabbed the attention of consumers, as
an added value to their experience at a racing event. Crocs partnered up with 40 or so races
countrywide. Croc has been successful also at expanding their product beyond racers, and its
traditional demographics. Both of these marketing strategies fit within the promotional mix, from
advertising to sales and promotions; and seemed to be

The Consequences Of Discipline In Children By Ray Bradbury
Jim Rohn once said, Discipline is the foundation upon which all success is built. Lack of discipline
inevitably leads to failure Ray Bradbury would agree with this notion as he addresses the
consequences of not disciplining your children. Ray Bradbury shows the conflict of Lydia and George,
wealthy parents who live in a futuristic society, of not spending enough time with their spoiled and
entitled children Wendy and Peter. The conflict between the parents and the children is the harms of
technology. The author uses motifs, conflicts, and allusions to suggest that a healthy family unit is
parents disciplining their children and spending time with them. Ray Bradbury uses various motifs in
the nursery to warn the audience of the impending fate of Lydia and George for not disciplining their
children. The nursery consisted of lions so real, so feverishly and startlingly real that you could feel
the prickling fur on your hand and the couple s screams after which they realized why those other
screams had sounded so familiar. (Bradbury 3, 14). The description of the lions provides the reader
with a clear sense of how real the nursery looks; the couple s screams foreshadow the downfall of the
couple in the nursery. These items show how the parents allowed the kids to become spoiled and
attached to the nursery and gave the love for their parents to the nursery, and we see this with the
motifs. The nursery shows the relationship between the children and the parents. The nursery

My Last Day In High School
It was a Thursday night in the middle of March, as I pull into the school parking lot. I can see that
there are mounds of suitcases and over stuffed duffle bags lined up on the faint lit sidewalks. I jumped
out of the car with eagerness when I saw my friends waiting for me by the curb line. We leap with joy
because; we knew that this was going to be one of the best trips of our final year in high school. The
trip meant so much to us; we needed to be away from stress filled environment that is known as
school.
Before we left the school we needed to get our check off lists completed. My bag is checked by the
parental security, to ensure that I m not bringing unneeded items onto the school provided trip. After
that I rushed to grab my obnoxious hefty garment bag, sticky tan buckled shoes, and my make up
paraphernalia. I look into each of the items to ensure every single piece I needed is in order, so I can
be ready to board the buses. The garment bag contains the Earth sparkled dress, leotard, and shredded
tights, with a few mystery items. The shoes need to have more stickiness for the next wear, so I placed
a bulky roll of duct tape in the bottom of the bag along with the shoes. The make up kit had plenty of
sparkles spilled everywhere, along with the eye lash extensions that should have been washed two or
three performances ago. The hair accessories for the performance were also included into the
overloaded kit of supplies.
I rushed back outside from the back stage doors;

The Opening Story Of Dalai Lama s Life
The Dalai Lama s opening story of his young life, in relation to his mother, set the tone of his talk on
happiness. There is no question in my mind that his personal disposition that made his life remarkable,
came from the most part from his family, especially his mother
Wherever I go I always talk how to become a happy individual, happy family, happy society, or
community... I think in my family the richness is my mother s affection. Because of my mother s
affection, in our home: full of joy (Dalai Lama, 2009).
In his talk, the Dalai Lama discussed the moral principles or code of ethics that guided his exemplary
life. He touched on the value of affection that all human beings received from their mothers and
parents (Dalai Lama, 2009). Thus, he wondered, Why does many people never bother about this inner
value (Dalai Lama, 2009)? He, however, recognized that man s self centered attitude and materialistic
life, had turned human beings into unhappy people (Dalai Lama, 2009). ... Show more content on

The Issue of Palestinian Refugees Right of Return
The Issue of Right of Return of the Palestinian Refugees
The problem is that Israelis and Palestinians are divided over the more than 4 million Palestinian
refugees who insist on returning to the homes that they lost during the 1948 and later during the 6 Day
War in 1967. Palestinians claim that these were their homes and they have a right to return to them
Israelis, on the other hand, generally, find the idea of such an exponential return of Palestinians to the
heart of Israel frightening since it may override the ratio of balance of Palestinians to Israelis as well
as importing possible terrorism (e.g. Quandt, 2005)
The refuge problem first initiated with the 1948 War Which Israelis dub the War of Independence and
Palestinians call the Nakba when some 700,000 Arab residents (85%) left their home, some
voluntarily, others forced, finding refuge in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and the Gaza Strip, which was
then administered by Egypt. Others were left homeless in Israel. (Brynen, 2007) whilst the Six Day
War caused a further flight of 280,000 to 325,000 Palestinians from Israeli won territory.
The Oslo Accords in 1993, negotiated by the EU, Israel, and the US, recognized a Palestinian state
under the Fatah party (led by Yasser Arafat) and established that the Palestinian refugees would be
controlled by this rule. They also planned to solve the refugee problem (largely by monetary
compensation) by 1996. Unrest and terrorism, as well as internal conflict on the solution,

Summary Of The NARCPAnd NAACP
2. Compare and contrast the activities, strategies, and tactics the SCLC, the NAACP, and SNCC were
involved in during the civil rights movement. In what ways did these organizations differ in their
programs, philosophies, goals and tactics? In what ways were they similar? Cite specific examples of
events/times when these organizations complimented each other (explain how), as well as when they
conflicted (against, specific examples and explain how).
As the oldest of the three organizations, the NAACP was founded in 1909 and in its early years
petitioned for anti lynching laws and Civil Rights legislation. Comprised of blacks as well as whites
the NAACP held a firm belief in the constitution and sought to bring about change by using the legal
system to garner African Americans the equality they deserved. The NAACP established its own legal
fund and went on to win Brown vs Board under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall. They also
worked on the local level supporting things such as the Montgomery Bus boycott as well as providing
lawyers and paying legal costs.
SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) was formed at Shaw University in Raleigh,
North Carolina in 1960. Formulated by young activists, whose primary focus intended for the
movement to rely on local organization and leadership rather than adopting the leadership model that
was employed by the NAACP and the SCLC. In its inception, they were committed to non violent
direct action beloved community .

Characteristics Of School Shootings
What characteristics, if any, do school shooters have in common? Can they all be lumped into one
group of empathy lacking, sadistic, depressed individuals, or do they each act due to their own
separate reasons? Although the media makes it seem as if school campus massacres are becoming an
increasingly common threat, the reality is that an event of that caliber is exceptionally rare. While it is
true that no two perpetrators are alike, it is important to recognize that the overwhelming majority of
school shooters follow a basic equation of personality traits, behavioral patterns, and other
characteristics. It would be impossible to create a definitive list of characteristics that every single
school shooter possesses, and researchers on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The psychotic type had an intact family, but did suffer from or at least show symptoms of various
psychological disorders or mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia. Finally, the psychopathic type, who
also came from an intact family, exhibited such behavior as narcissism and sadism and lacked both
empathy and a conscious (Langman, 2009). It is clear that although researchers do not always agree
on how to explain the behavior of school shooters, there are some fundamental traits that are very
frequently included in their studies. When news of an active shooter situation hits the media, word
spreads quickly, especially when the event takes place at a school. Before long, expert psychologists,
law enforcement personnel, and even ordinary citizens begin to look into the shooter s personal life,
attempting to find a piece of evidence that could help explain why they opened fire. The incident that
took place on October 24, 2014 at Marysville Pilchuck High School is no exception. Fifteen year old
Jaylen Fryberg entered the school cafeteria, took out a .40 caliber handgun, and began shooting at a
table of his classmates (Carter, 2014). Four students would succumb to their injuries, and another three
were critically wounded. Fryberg also took his own life in the shooting ( Marysville Shooter Texted,
2015). If one were to place Fryberg into the Leary et al. study, the results would be consistent with the

Celtic Mythology Research Paper
Trees are silent guards, they are listeners and they hold knowledge mankind has long forgotten. A
culture that once was all across Europe to nearly facing extinction amazingly survived thousands of
years. Celtic Mythology was more than just whimsical stories to it s people it was a way of life,
including tales of these gods and goddesses who served a purpose of meaning the world and the
qualities of a good person. First, the history of Celtic Mythology traces back centuries ago. For
example, there is a long history of their people. At their height they were a large and diverse group
that was spread out all across Central Europe. After the Start of christianity however, the popularity or
Celtic went down. Also, scientists have discovered many different celtic villages. The Hallstatt village
in Austria is the oldest one of its kind ever found and many different celtic artifacts have been found
there. This is why the early stages of Celtic Mythology was known as the Hallstatt era. Another village
in Switzerland called La Tene also had many artifacts uncovered there and is also is why the second

Smell versus Taste with Food
Taste and smell are something we use every day. From the moment we wake up,we are smelling
things all around us. We taste food every single time it enters our mouth. But, do we really know how
each of them work?
Every time we put something in our mouths we are able to taste it. Taste is one of the five senses:
touch, smell, hear, vision, and taste. Small structures, papillae, found on the surface of the tongue,
upper esophagus, and epiglottis are responsible for taste. We have over 10,000 taste buds or papillae.
They were first discovered by Georg Meissner(1829 1905) and Rudolf Wagner(1805 1864).The
process of tasting is called gustation. Chemical substances in solutions stimulate the cells and they
send nerve impulses to the brain, we detect this as taste. The word taste is derived from a Latin word,
taxare, meaning to feel , to touch of to judge.
When an individual puts a substance in their mouth, five distinct tastes can be detected. These five
distinct sensations or qualities are sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami. When any of these tastes touch
the tongue, the receptors send signals to the brain on what to interpret. Each taste has a different
chemical reaction. For example, when saliva breaks down sodium ions (Na+) or acids, your tongue
detects it as salty or sour(Light,2009). The chemical break down for a sweet taste is hard to specify
because many chemical elements are involved.
Taste buds are located all around the tongue, the cheeks, and the

Essay on African Americans in Antebellum America
Africans first arrived in the area that later became the United States of America in around 1619 in the
Chesapeake area. The large amount of fertile land in the area gave the settlers their biggest cash crop,
which was tobacco. As time went by, more and more tobacco was being exported to England. Because
of this, more labor was needed. This need for more labor was not only in the north, but in the south as
well due to their mass production of cotton. This movement started the institution of slavery in
America. Then, the colonies and other countries started to trade slaves and it became a business. The
Royal African Company was the first slave trading company, which was started in 1672. The slaves
were transported by the Middle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The House of Representatives uses the states population to determine how many representatives each
state receives in the House. In the southern states, they thought that everyone, including slaves, should
be counted. The northern states did not think that it was fair to count the slaves in the total population,
since there were a lot more slaves in the south than the north. Both sides agreed to the 3/5
Compromise. This compromise said that for every 5 slaves, they would be counted as 3 citizens.
Therefore, 60% of the slave population would be used when the states population is counted. Slavery
in the United States lasted until towards the end of the Civil War and even some after the
Emancipation Proclamation, since it only freed slaves in the South and not in the North.
Growing up as a child in a slave family was pretty easy, until you discovered the harsh reality of
slavery. The children were not allowed to call certain people by certain names. For one former
Louisiana slave, that moment came when her mistress whipped her for saying to misses, `My mother
sent me. We were not allowed to call our mammies `mother. It was too near the way of the white
folks. (African American Voices pg. 109). Some children saw their own parents getting whipped and
became aware of the fact that their parents could not protect them from their master. Some children

All s Fair in Love and War Essay
All s fair in Love and War
We have all realized, at one point, that war is a part of our society; it is a part of our lives whether we
want to admit it or not. In the times that we are in today the only way to be a hero is to do something
charitable, or to stand up for your political beliefs. The sad truth is that our society today no longer
accepts the war aspect as being a hero. In my eyes a person that is brave and courageous to risk their
lives for someone is definitely a hero. Not only are these brave men and women risking their lives for
others, they have lives of their own. Did anyone care to ask the question, does he have a family at
home? Does he have a wife, a girlfriend? That doesn t matter nor do $$#Break#$$ I got out of the car
and the hot air hit my face. The sand was beige colored and surprisingly very clean. I could smell the
salty ocean breeze hitting my face. We walked along the beach looking for a place to get settled; there
were people everywhere. We found a space to lay down somewhere in towards the middle of the
beach. We lay our towels and bags down on the hot sand; I realized that Glenn had already taken of
his wife beater exposing his toned muscular body. I couldn t help but look. You don t see that kind of
body everyday unless you open up a magazine. I guess I was staring hard because he noticed and

simply complemented him. While everyone else went into the water we stayed to just relax on the hot
sun.
So were you born in the Philippines? I asked randomly.

questions or questions at all; I like to get to know people by having random conversations and by

High Intensity Midterm Training
A relatively new and popular workout regimen called HIIT or high intensity interval training appears
to be the solution that the United States military needs. High intensity interval training, also called
high intensity intermittent exercise, is a form of interval training that has short periods of very intense
activity then a very short period of a low intensity activity. An example of this would be a 200m sprint
then a 30 second rest time. You would repeat this around 8 times, higher depending on the persons
current fitness level. The beautiful thing of HIIT is that it can be molded to whatever workout the
individual prefers. The main goal behind HIIT is to spike your heartrate to around 90% of your

Yellow-Legged Frog Project
Overall for this change project, we have learned that the population of frogs has been decreasing all

species, and the population of humans. Specifically, in California, only 40% of the historical sites in
the Northwest area have Foothill Yellow Legged Frogs, and this has the highest percentage out of all
of California. These frogs are indicators for the environment, meaning they can determine if the area
around them has changed dramatically due to their permeable skin. For our service project, we

we were able to improve the levelness of the area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chat was very helpful and we were able to communicate outside of school as well as have
meetings online.
Something that we learned as a group was that cooperation helps a lot. Certain tasks were
accomplished faster and this showed us that one person does not have to do the entire project on their
own. Procrastination is also detrimental, causing cramming on days before deadlines. This can be
stressful and force meetings to be postponed. Our group has also learned to follow a set schedule.
Following a schedule allows us to complete all of our work on time.
Some recommendations that we have to help the Foothill Yellow Legged Frogs incorporates the
government. The government is able to help by putting these amphibians on the endangered list and
providing laws to protect them. Putting restrictions on areas where these frogs live to protect their
population can help these frogs grow, and those who disturb their population should be fined. Another
way these frogs can be helped is to promote volunteering for nonprofit organizations such as Tule
Ponds. By promoting volunteering, habitats can be restored by acts such as clearing out invasive
species, like we did during our service project. Lastly, regulating trade can significantly help while
protecting these frogs. This prevents invasive species from taking over the native ones and will allow
habitats to grow peacefully. By reducing the number of invasive plants in the area, this can protect the
habitats of these frogs as well as other

Cognitive Dissonance
Leon Festinger and James M. Carlsmith (1959) were interested in the cognitive dissonance, which can
influence a person decision to choose one action or thought over another. The researchers were also
interested in forced compliance, where authority can force individuals to say or act in a way that is
conflicting to one s own private opinion, whereas, the individual s attitude is altered through
persuasion and authority. Force was operationally defined as the amount of reward offered for lying
and cognitive dissonance experienced from the participant s rated enjoyment of the tasks. Therefore,

How Did Jefferson And Hamilton Influence Government

opposite parties represented by the two main leaders, Jefferson and Hamilton. They were both
working in the Washington s cabinet. Hamilton as the Secretary of Treasury with his group from New
England, and Jefferson as a Secretary of state with a group majority from the interior regions. When
the French Revolution started, Hamilton despised the violations and social disruptions, but Jefferson

Fashion Design Essay
In the last few months, I have been studying the market of clothing manufacturing heavily. From
quality to fabric cost, the whole idea of clothing manufacturing is very appealing to a young man that
would like to pursue a career in graphic and architectural design. I will be sharing my personal
experience with clothing manufacturing, as well as the differences between trade offs and opportunity
costs. A lot of times, people overlook how difficult it really is to establish a successful brand or
collection for a clothing line. A significant amount of thought must go into this process because of all
of the resources that are necessary to take into account. With a clothing line, I believe that it is
absolutely necessary for one to take the economic portion equally, if not, more seriously than the
actual creative direction and design. Fabric is the number one reason for this. Based on trends of the
last few years in street wear , more brands that have a primary teenage audience have sprouted into
replicating the aesthetic of higher end brands because of the shift in culture that the social media
market has cultivated. This caused a boom in the street wear market, because the cost of replicating a
high end fashion t shirt in a country like China, is very inexpensive. The reason for this has to do with
the fabric, and as well as the advertising manipulation that goes on behind the scenes. See, most of the
kids who are purchasing these replicated high end products, haven t felt

Effects Of Social Media In The 21st Century
Social Media in the Twenty First Century The first social media site that was actively used, Myspace,
was created in 2003. In the upcoming years after this, numerous social media sites were created, such
as, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The effects of social media on people have been researched for
several years. Two authors, Shirley Lee and Eva Wiseman, have similar and different views on social
media. Using their views and persuasive methods, they wrote an article on the outcomes of social
media. The conclusion of social media, from both authors, is that it can be useful in everyday life,
damaging to teens mental health, and cause lingering effects. Social media can be very useful in
everyday lives. In Lee s view, she used her Facebook application to send gifts to her friends she didn t
get to see often in person. She insists that Facebook is a cool app for sending gifts and I have 50
ongoing conversations on the app (Lee 4). Facebook can help you keep in touch with distant family, or
friends, by posting pictures or status. Similarly, Wiseman states that young girls use it to stay
connected. The author, Wiseman, generalized that they post pictures, and status updates often
throughout a day. However, Wiseman s opposing view on using social media everyday is that it can
put pressure on teenagers because they feel as if they have to keep posting to stay pertinent. For
example, a 13 year old that was interviewed said, It s like I m a brand..to stay relevant you have

Information system is analyzed as the parity. The reason is lack of a customer service hotline on eBay

eBay´s executives do not adopt the management style to Chinese conditions. For the majority of
population was the only option to pay by cash, because of non users of credit cards. Also there are
problems with the system of auction, because Chinese people like face to face purchases and they are
used to deal the lowest price and in auction selling format usually the prices went up. These issues
caused the evaluation of marketing and customer service as the parity. E Bay had adopted various
expansion strategies, both locally in the US and globally in new international markets. It builds a

Case 27 Southwest Airlines
1.0 Summary of Southwest Airlines: Does LUV Last?* First time in history, Southwest Airlines had
its LUV for customers questioned. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) levied a record $10.2
million fine on Southwest Airlines. They accuse them after missing mandatory safety checks of flying
117 planes on nearly 60,000 flights between June 18, 2006, and March 14, 2007. Both the FAA and
Southwest testified. FAA officials were blamed for being too close to the airline and being careless in
their regulatory duties. Safety was not compromised by the missed inspections; a tiny section of the
plane s skin had missed being inspected. The cracks in that section would not have led to any terrible
accident. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unions were becoming more aggressive in communicating their frustration, in contrast to earlier days
when differences of opinion were resolved more politely and peacefully. On 2001, ramp workers
picketed near company headquarters with signs that read Record Profits Empty Pickets . They
complained that staff shortages, combined with Southwest s record passenger loads and its drive to
improve on time performance, meant that they had to lift more bags and had to do so more quickly,
which put them at risk of injury. Though on July 2002, first time in the company history, Southwest s
mechanics union asked federal mediators to intervene to break a contract deadlock over pay. While the
company was nowhere near a strike, the incident clearly signaled the strains appearing in employee
relations. The company was also engaged without much success in a contract renegotiation with flight
attendants. July 2003, a group of flight attendants staged a demonstration at the headquarters, carrying
signs stating Spread the LUV and handing out cards to travelers that read Give our flight attendants a
break . The move was an expression of frustration over management s idea of increasing the flight
attendants work hours. Workers who had been working hard to boost the productivity of the company

Persuasive Speech About Karate
Do you get bullied often? Are you shy with low self esteem? Do you want to become stronger while
having fun? Don t look; see. Don t hear; listen. Don t do; be. About four years ago, this was me, afraid
of my own shadow. The shy kid, the tall kid, the weak kid, constantly being harassed and bullied. One
evening, I decided to join karate to learn how to protect myself. Enough was enough. Now, fighting is
never the answer, however, if left with no options, you need to know how to defend yourself. Being in
this situation has happened too often. I m excited to say that karate has changed my life in ways I
never thought possible. Martial arts have prepared me with the skill I need to protect and defend
myself. Fitness, focus, self esteem, socialization skills, and respect are just a few of the wonderful
benefits I have learned. Tae Kwon Do is a Korean karate with a military art, and one of the greatest
popular forms of self defense today. Karate is beneficial and fun with learning techniques to avoid
dangerous and violent situations. In fact, Tae kwon do karate originated over 2,000 years ago and was
used for self defense. Today it still exists as well as practiced by over 30 million people around the
world (Draeger, Smith. 1980). The name originates from the Korean word Tae meaning foot. Kwon
meaning fist, and Do meaning way of. When you put it altogether, Tae kwon do literally means the
way of the foot and the fist. It is an unarmed combat of

Modern World s Education System
In History Begins at Sumer, Kramer informs us about how Sumerians lived during 2000 B.C. He
discusses different topics such as education, justice, medicine, and many more. The book mainly
focuses on Sumer but as you read you start to notice that our world and Sumerian world are similar. It
s an eye opener to how everything we do came about and where it all started. The part we don t
actually know is how Sumerians came up with their way of living. Many may assume that their
ancient world is so different but after reading History Begins at Sumer they would later realize the
similarities outweighs the differences. Kramer wrote that Sumerians and modern humans are
fundamentally analogous, comparable, and reciprocally illuminating (Kramer, 259). Which he s
basically saying that our worlds are obviously different but at the same time extremely similar. His
book persuades you to have the same thought process. Kramer wrote about the education system in the
ancient Sumerian world which happens to sound a little like modern world s education system. The
school has one main focus and that was to teach scribes to write in Sumerian language (Kramer, 6).
Student had to remember then recite what they ve learned in a tablet which later became textbooks.
They spent most of their day in school and like modern humans spent multiple years in school. We are
in school from the age 6 to whenever we decide to be done. Sumerians according to History Begins at

Six Degrees Of Separation And The Human Veil Analysis
Fred Schepisi s Six Degrees of Separation (1993) and Robert Benton s The Human Stain (2003) are
two films from the post racial era that each accurately depict the lives of two tragic, passing
characters. Paul, portrayed by Will Smith in Schepisi s film, passes not on the basis of race but of
social class and sexuality. Within Benton s motion picture, Coleman Silk, Anthony Hopkins, passes as
a professor and dean of a university through the use of a racial masquerade. The stories that follow
these similarly different characters and how they choose to engage in their respective surroundings are
widely effected by the individuals that Paul and Coleman both interact with. A thorough personal
analysis of the whiteness encompassing the lives of Paul and Coleman alongside other professional
critiques of Six Degrees of Separation and The Human Stain reveals a parallel trend of Otherness. In
Schepisi s film, Paul is by no means the central character of the story. The plot of Six Degrees of
Separation recounts the effect of Paul on Flan and Ouisa Kittredge, two privileged white art dealers in
New York. Shcepisi utilizes both Paul s blackness and Otherness to emphasize the Kittredge s
whiteness. One critic stated, the black character is often a supporting player or background material in
the story of the white man s spiritualization or maturation (Gillan 132). Although, Paul is the one who
offers to cook the Flan, Ouisa, and Geoffrey a meal in their home and the Kittredges are

Arguments For The Legalization Of Gay Marriage
Legalization of Gay Marriage What is the definition of marriage? The dictionary states it as being the
legal union between a man and a woman as husband and wife. However, times are changing as the gay
life style becomes more accepted by society it is time to allow all couples regardless of sex to enjoy
equal protections, rights and benefits under the law. Perhaps, it makes the most sense to consider
arguments against same sex marriage to realize why it should be legalized; these arguments touch
upon a broad array of issues including: parenting, religion and morality, procreation, rights and
benefits, and values and institute of marriage. Parenting

Many people also believe that legalizing same sex marriages will lead to a huge portion of the
population to suddenly declare themselves as homosexuals: I find this scenario to be very unlikely.
Equal Rights, Benefits, and Financial Implications
Although they currently are not the reality is that marriage benefits should be accessible to all couples.
Gay couples are unfairly denied the countless benefits enjoyed by heterosexual couples that are able to
marry. For instance, they are not eligible for tax benefits, insurance benefits and are sometimes denied
joint ownership of property. Furthermore, Same sex couples are even denied the right to make certain
medical decisions with regards to their partner. For example, a gay couple that has been together for
25 years is not allowed to visit their partner in the hospital after visiting hours due to the fact they are
not considered family. They each are considered legal strangers. A common belief among opponents
of same sex marriage is that businesses would be forced to provide benefits to same sex couples.
(Bidstrup, 2004) This is not necessarily the case, and many businesses already voluntarily offer
marriage benefits to same sex couples as a matter of good business sense. The businesses that offer
these benefits recognize the importance and invaluable support spouses make to their working
partners; these companies are generally viewed as progressive and are attractive to investors

The Impact Of Macro Forces On The Sportswear Industry
The sportswear industry provides clothing, including footwear, worn for sport or physical exercise and
has now evolved as casual fashion clothing more than athletic wear. In this report I will be talking
about Kotler s macro forces and their effect on the sportswear industry. I will also be comparing two
organizations from the industry and evaluating the similarities and differences between them.
Macro environment or macro forces consists of the larger societal factors that have the potential to
affect an organization s strategies. According to Phillip Kotler, these variables include demographic,
economic, natural, technological, political, and cultural outside forces. ( Josbd , n.d, para. 7)

Technological environment is the combination some factors which develop new products and also
create opportunities and threats for the company. Not only does it benefit marketers greatly creating
new product and market opportunities, it also creates opportunity for customers to consume new
products. The evolution of technology has provided many platforms for marketers. New and improved
technology can either profit the organization, or create threats of more competitors in the market. In
the sportswear industry, technological factors could cause unemployment as machines replace
workers. It could, however, reduce cost as more products can be made at a lower cost and lesser
amount of time compared to labor made garments. Moreover, technology can benefit the sportswear
marketers as a form of market research as social media and internet has outrageously developed over
the past decade. Social media famous people can promote the sportswear by just wearing the items
and posting a picture on the internet or simply advertising it at a really low price, almost immediately

Teen Pregnancy
Suddenly teen pregnancy IS cool?
1. Teen pregnancy is up partly because there is less of a stigma associated with teen pregnancy since
there is more of a cultural permission to be a younger mother. The rise is also partly due to the
portrayal of celebrity teens such as Jamie Lynn Spears in the media and other cultural shifts, giving
teens the idea that having a baby is the new handbag .
2. The reason the authors use allusion in the first paragraph is to show the readers that teen pregnancy
is becoming a trend amongst celebrities and its sweeping teen culture along with it. Whether or not the
average teen thinks unplanned pregnancy is fashionable, there are numerous celebrity and pop culture
examples of hip, unmarried moms. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paragraph 25 latest accessory in Hollywood protruding bellies .having a baby is the new handbag
The author in the article is comparing the latest style to pregnancy. Media is portraying that pregnancy
is the latest trend and it is popular amongst cool celebrities. The author goes on to compare babies as
the new handbag, making it seem like carrying a baby is like carrying the most fashionable handbag. It
makes teens feel as if it s hip and they should go get one like it s a fashion accessory.
b) Irony
Paragraph 1 I didn t believe it because Jamie Lynn s always been so conscientious. She s never late for
her curfew.
This is ironic because Jamie Lynn is the not conscientious; infact she is very irresponsible. If she was
careful she would have been able to prevent her pregnancy at such an early age.
Paragraph 2 just 16, who matter of factly chooses to have a baby and an open adoption rather than
an abortion. No big deal.
This is ironic because the author is using the movie Juno as an example to Jamie Lynn s situation,
making it seem like teenage pregnancy is not that big of a deal. When everyone found out that Juno
was pregnant in the movie they were very unrealistic about it and not freaking out like most families
would do. However, the readers know that teen pregnancy is a very big deal in our society and there
are a lot of drawbacks that come with it. Most

Essay Surfing
When you think of surfing what comes to mind? Is it amp;#8220;yo dude, ; or the beauty of a majestic
wave breaking on the shore with the sun setting on the horizon? Surfers today receive very little
respect for the sport, sometimes referred to as an art, that they participate in. Despite what most people
think, the surfers are a rare breed let alone the soul surfer. However if you believe that surfers are just
a bunch of beer drinking, marijuana smoking, partygoers then you have something coming your way.
Surfing first came about in the late 1800 amp;#8217;s and early 1900 amp;#8217;s at the time of the

The History Of Human Language
The history of human language is long, complicated and somewhat controversial. Even the definitions
of the word language are varied slightly. The Merriam Webster dictionary states, Language is the
system of words or signs that people use to express thoughts and feelings to each other: and one of the
systems of human language that are used and understood by a particular group of people: words of a
particular kind . Additionally, the American Heritage Dictionary defines language as, a communication
of thoughts and feelings through a system of arbitrary signals, such as voice sounds, gestures, or
written symbols . Between these two definitions of language we can see how complicated the history
of human language actually is. The definitions vary based on the assumptions of whether the writer
believes language is more learned or instinctive behavior. The debates on the origin of language are
still going on today. There are two basic views represented in the definitions of language. The first
view is based on language being primarily a mental faculty of humans to learn languages and the
biological differences that are unique to the human brain. The second view is concentrated around the
idea that learning a language is natural. While other views are more centered on the structured
learning of formal signs.

Civil Rights Of Disabled People
According to Shakespeare, people with disabilities and nondisabled allies have worked together over
the past three decades through the disability movement which he refers to as the last liberation
movement. This movement focused national attention onto the social oppression and cultural
discourse that people with disabilities face every day in our country and the lack of regulations and
laws in place that would prevent this kind of discrimination from happening.
However, Shakespeare does allude to the fact that disabled people are distinguished from non disabled
people. Disabled people are the oppressed group, and more often than not non disabled people and

He shares a similar stance as Shakespeare when discussing how all non disabled people are just one

the fact that people from any economic class, race, religious background, age, or sex can be affected
by disability either themselves or within their close circle. This further drives home the importance of
an ally relationship among this community as disability is something that is apart of so many peoples
lives in one way or another. Throughout his book, Pelka also references the passing of the Americans
with Disabilities Act of 1990 as a shared victory between people with disabilities and their allies.
Pelka also focuses on the thematic phrase nothing about us, without us. This slogan reflects the idea
that people with disabilities are often seen as someone to pity and problems to fix, yet so many of the
basic decisions in their lives have been made for them, ie, schooling, working, care, where they will

were able to take back their own voice, and finally have an input in the way they are treated and

Phanerozoic Eras
The earth has been around for 4.6 billion years, and over this time 99.9% of all of the species that have
existed on earth have gone extinct. (Barnosky, et al) Palaeontologists characterize mass extinctions as
times in Earth s history when the Earth loses more than three quarters of its species in a geologically
short period of time. This has occurred 5 times over the past 540 million years, and scientists are now
suggesting it is happening a 6th time. We are in the midst of a sixth mass extinction that has the
potential to wipe out many species of importance, and humans have a profound impact on it.
Essentially, there have been 5 mass extinctions during the history of life on earth. (Wake, Vredenburg)
And, the time the earth has existed has been divided up into eons, eras, periods, and epochs based on

Senate Representatives Case Study
Week1 Discussion I believe that the US senate representation have to have the same number of elected
representatives for each region. Definitively, in the United States wealthy citizens are better
represented than poor people, even though rich and poor individuals share the same political
affiliation. Political inequality is when a policy benefits a group more than other. Usually, politic
favoritisms or benefits are reflected in the richer citizens. Equal representation grows the functioning
of a democratic system. In general, low income citizens have disadvantages regarding political
practice; low income citizens do not vote as wealthy people, poor society does not participate in
political activities as wealthy people. Poor individuals do not understand the process of policy and
have not access to political resources, so they cannot express their point of views. Low income
persons tend to live in marginal areas that are not supported by politicians. These population s

Essay on Determination
Some people believe that talent and a winning attitude are all you need in order to succeed in your
endeavors, but a winning attitude means having determination, which many people lack. As seen on
wisdomforthesoul.org, Real leaders are ordinary people with extraordinary determination.
Determination is an important factor in the overall success or failure of a person s efforts.
Unfortunately, determination is not something that comes easy to the majority of people. To be truly
determined, a person must first be passionate about what they re doing. Passion, however, is only the
first step towards resolution and determination. One must have a clear goal in mind, and be willing to

(www.merriam webster.com) This is synonymous with my personal definition of determination. When
the end is decided upon, there is no reason or desire to change said goal. A person under the influence
of determination is comparable to a train. The train will not change its direction, as it cannot, and no
matter what, the train will continue along the tracks until it either reaches its destination, or is stopped
by the conductor. For as an example, my plan after high school is to go to college, and then move into
the professional world. When confronted about possibly wanting to join the military, my answer is
absolutely not. Going to college right after high school has always been my mindset, and there s no
way my determination will let that change. I am the metaphorical train, because my destination is set,
and there s no chance for me to adjust my direction. I will not stray from my goal, because it would
mean wrecking myself and all those involved in my endeavors. There will be mountains in front of
me, and people I may have to run over to reach my goal, but when one s mind is set, they will not

The Shark Ethos
Imagine a world without your favorite foods you have ever consumed. Imagine a world where you
cannot even enjoy your favorite beach on vacation because of unmanageable algae taking over our
coasts. Imagine a world with a huge spike in greenhouse gases, and a dramatic decline of natural
oxygen production. This is a world without the most feared and misunderstood creature that rules our
oceans, the Shark. In an advertisement published by WWF, it conveys the message of what we should
actually be fearing, the fall of our marine ecosystems and what that will do to humanity. The
advertisement uses all three appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos to push their targeted audience to
further their education on our world and to spread the word to everyone ... Show more content on

Viewers do not have to read a paragraph of information to get to the point, so having only three, small
words printed onto the display gives more room for the picture itself to tell the story. The usage of the
word horrifying , perfectly corresponds with the overall tone of the advertisement and is what truly
captures the viewers attention. Visually, the ad is incredibly ominous, giving an unsettling sense of
mystery and threat, so comparing it with the term horrifying , completes the connotation given. WWF
associates the picture without the sharks fin with the words More Horrifying , which is a very
dramatic statement, in order to play on the more pragmatic fear on what shark s decline in our world s
oceans will substantially

The Remembrance Of A Grandmother
In Remembrance OF A Grandmother Grandparents are the best of friend and gentle person you will
ever meet. They love and care about their granddaughters very much. Children enjoy spending time
with their grandparents because they are full of stories and always seem to have candy or cookie with
them. Children are always excited about their grandparents visitation especially on holidays and
birthdays. They hoped that one day they will see their granddaughters grow up and change the world.
In the long run, their life turned upside down, and they never get to see that day comes to pass. One
day they are here and then they are gone, leaving you behind wondering what you could have done to
keep them longer. First of all, my great grandmother Akosua, was not just an ordinary woman. She
was talented, adventurous, friendly and joyful person you will ever meet. When grandmother Akosua
was younger, she traveled around the world, serving her famous cuisine to workers in isolated places.
There were any cars during those day so she walked by foot crossing boarder to boarder entering into
other lands. She would take two week trip to the other native land and sell food to the people who
were living or working there. Sometimes when her food is finished, she would stay longer, and cook
for them. She was always trying new things and going beyond her limit. She got the kindness of heart
that loves giving and helping people anyway she could. When people come to her in the market where

Psychodynamic Theory And Family Counseling
Psychodynamic Theory and Family Counseling Advantages and Disadvantages Psychodynamic
therapy has been around for ages, and has been very beneficial for clients who are suffering from an
array of difficulties in life. This form of therapy has the client focus on the past and understand how it
has positively or negatively affected his/her behavior and outlook on life. There are many advantages
and disadvantages to taking this historical approach when working with families. Starting with the
advantages of psychodynamic therapy, a client is able to re examine past conflicts and work though
unresolved issues that could be hindering his/her present day life. Going through life and never really
dealing with what is troubling you, can cause stress and anxiety all the way into adulthood. When an
individual decides to seek help for the first time, it is beneficial for the counselor to know about the
client s past experiences to fully understand why they are the person they are today. A historical
approach helps the counselor focus on the root of the problems, and how events along the way have
become overpowering struggles that has brought the family into counseling. Understanding one s past
can help a person heal and learn to deal with new issues that may come along in the future. This type
of therapy is also beneficial because it helps the client and counselor identify reoccurring behaviors
that have led to negative outcomes. Being aware of why the behaviors occur and recognizing

The Impact Of Illegal Immigrants On US Wages
The Impact of Illegal Immigrants on US Wages
Jessica Cotter
ECON 3231
11/20/2017
The United States of America has the highest number of immigrants in the world. The population of
both illegal and undocumented immigrants has increased drastically over the past decade. According
to the current statistics, there are 11.9 million estimated illegal immigrants living and working in the
USA. The statistics translate to five hundred thousand new entrants annually in the last ten years. The
remaining 40% of illegal immigrants arrive on temporary visas but they choose to remain in the
country after their visas expire. However, the state of the recession has temporarily stopped the
population growth of unauthorized immigrants, but entry into the US is expected to resume after the
recovery of its economy if past experience is a guide. Immigration policies and reforms have raised
political heat with President Trump threatening to deport all illegal immigrants. However, the
Democrats and Republicans never seem to agree on immigration reforms. Donald Trump has
promised to build a wall on the US Mexico border to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants as well
as curb drug and human trafficking routes. President Trump seems to be committed to his immigration
reforms based on his temporary executive order to stop immigrants from Somalia, Yemen, and Iran
among other Arab states from entering the US. There are many economic impacts of illegal
immigrants in the country.

Medical Marijuana Card Research Paper
Your medical marijuana card may be the key to improved health, but it s not a free pass. It comes with
responsibilities and rules you must follow in order to keep it. It s also not a guarantee of access. Here
are five facts you need to know about your medical marijuana card.
Cards Expire
Your medical marijuana card expires and must be renewed. How often you need to renew varies by
state. Californians must renew their card every year while those in New Jersey must renew only every
two years.
Marijuana Isn t on The Formulary
The federal government considers marijuana an illegal Schedule I drug. Because the federal
government deems the drug illegal and it is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration, the
drug cannot legally be prescribed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It does not permit marijuana use in public places or anywhere that cigarette smoking is prohibited.
You will be fined for smoking or otherwise consuming marijuana in public, even with a medical
marijuana card.
Travel Carefully
Medical marijuana use is not legal in every state. Note, too, that states honor only their own medical
marijuana cards and permits. A New Jersey card will not protect you from legal ramifications in
California, even though both states allow medical marijuana usage. Some states do reciprocate with
others. In this instance, you will need to register for and purchase marijuana in the state you are
visiting and use it there. Even with a reciprocating agreement, carrying marijuana across state lines is
a federal crime.
DUI Is Possible
In 2016, an Arizona appeals court ruled in favor of protecting medical marijuana users from DUI
charges. It was determined, however, that cardholders could still be charged with DUI if police can
prove they were too impaired to be driving. Remember that is is still unwise and illegal to operate a
vehicle while under the influence of marijuana, even if you hold a medical marijuana card.
There are still legal kinks and slippery slopes affecting the use of medical marijuana. Keep this in
mind when you get your medical marijuana card and make sure you understand what it permits and
what it doesn t. Your local officials and doctor will both be happy to answer your questions and help
you follow the appropriate medical cannabis

Nuclear Energy And Its Effects
1. Background
Nuclear energy can be produced by fission, by splitting a nucleus into smaller products, (precisely
equal parts). These products are equal to half of the original mass. In the process of nuclear fission,
energy and neutrons will be emitted. Along with the emission of neutrons, also during the process of
fission, a large amount of a product s energy is released.
Every day we are surrounded by so much radiation however, only some radiation can be harmful to
us. Radiation such as microwaves, radio waves, and infrared are classes as non ionizing and are not a
threat to humans. Radiation classed as Ionizing radiation is most definitely harmful to us because it
has the capability of removing electrons from other atoms and then ... Show more content on

They also have a less powerful ionizing rate compared to alpha particles.
Gamma rays are energy, also known as electromagnetic radiation. They have no charge or mass. They
move through the air extremely quickly (at the speed of light) and to ionize them, they need to directly
hit the nucleus of an atom. This suggests that gamma rays have a very low ionizing rate and can travel
much t=further through the air compared to alpha and beta particles.
Nuclear fuelled power plants are very similar to fossil fuelled power pants, in which they both turn
water into steam in order to control the turbine generators that produce energy; the only difference is
the source of heat. At nuclear power plants, a nuclear reactor produces and controls the amount of
energy that is released when atoms of Uranium split, which is called fission. The heat that is used to
make this steam is created by this form of fission. Uranium fuelled nuclear power plants are a clean
and efficient way of boiling water to produce the steam that is used to operate the turbine generators
within the power plant.
Figure 1 shows the equation for the nuclear fission of uranium 235.
2. Discussion
Even though we use Nuclear energy to give places electricity, Nuclear energy is used in many more
things than just in the production of electricity. Such as; Hospitals, schools, households or business ,
Nuclear Radiation can be used to treat heavy medical

Case Study-Hubbard Foods-Fake Company
COMPANY BACKGROUND
Hubbard Foods Ltd started up in mid 1988 and a private limited company. The company was
originally named Winner Foods Ltd and only 4 employees at that moment, now currently has staff
about 150.
In 1990, Dick¡¦s decision was made to introduce the Hubbard brand as the main brand for breakfast
cereal products. The company¡¦s products set the price at both the high price range and low end of the
cereal market.
Hubbard¡¦s has consistently built a culture around caring for others, creating employment and being
socially responsible. In 2000, the company increased pay and allowances, and increased
communication between management, the union and employees.
In 2000/2001, the company exported 14.4 per cent of its production ... Show more content on

In fact, it doesn¡¦t have enough power to do the acquisition. Licensing is one of the good way also
because it is both low in cost and risk, it only license out the production way is enough. However, the
consideration is the returns are not high.
Actually, exporting rate is low; it have to see the internal strategic and external strategic position first
if they analysis this problem. There has a major change in internal strategic position from no
production line to a systematic production way, this would be the significant change. In an external
way, the extension of the production would let to export product to the world wide where is an
untapped market. It should be a major change because it is only export to Australia, U.K., Singapore
and Hong Kong only if it is not have a systematic production line. Now, which way should take if
enter into a new market. Using exporting way; it¡¦s a high cost and low control method because they
need to spend a lot of marketing and distributing expense to form the channel for them to export,
however, ¡§no pain, no gain¡¨. (Hanson, 2005)
A strategic alliance is a good way for the company because it allows sharing the risks and the
resources with the alliance that mean does not have to bear all the risk of the exporting. In addition,
the alliance can help it to develop the new competencies maybe the new product or

  • 3. The Consequences Of Discipline In Children By Ray Bradbury Jim Rohn once said, Discipline is the foundation upon which all success is built. Lack of discipline inevitably leads to failure Ray Bradbury would agree with this notion as he addresses the consequences of not disciplining your children. Ray Bradbury shows the conflict of Lydia and George, wealthy parents who live in a futuristic society, of not spending enough time with their spoiled and entitled children Wendy and Peter. The conflict between the parents and the children is the harms of technology. The author uses motifs, conflicts, and allusions to suggest that a healthy family unit is parents disciplining their children and spending time with them. Ray Bradbury uses various motifs in the nursery to warn the audience of the impending fate of Lydia and George for not disciplining their children. The nursery consisted of lions so real, so feverishly and startlingly real that you could feel the prickling fur on your hand and the couple s screams after which they realized why those other screams had sounded so familiar. (Bradbury 3, 14). The description of the lions provides the reader with a clear sense of how real the nursery looks; the couple s screams foreshadow the downfall of the couple in the nursery. These items show how the parents allowed the kids to become spoiled and attached to the nursery and gave the love for their parents to the nursery, and we see this with the motifs. The nursery shows the relationship between the children and the parents. The nursery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My Last Day In High School It was a Thursday night in the middle of March, as I pull into the school parking lot. I can see that there are mounds of suitcases and over stuffed duffle bags lined up on the faint lit sidewalks. I jumped out of the car with eagerness when I saw my friends waiting for me by the curb line. We leap with joy because; we knew that this was going to be one of the best trips of our final year in high school. The trip meant so much to us; we needed to be away from stress filled environment that is known as school. Before we left the school we needed to get our check off lists completed. My bag is checked by the parental security, to ensure that I m not bringing unneeded items onto the school provided trip. After that I rushed to grab my obnoxious hefty garment bag, sticky tan buckled shoes, and my make up paraphernalia. I look into each of the items to ensure every single piece I needed is in order, so I can be ready to board the buses. The garment bag contains the Earth sparkled dress, leotard, and shredded tights, with a few mystery items. The shoes need to have more stickiness for the next wear, so I placed a bulky roll of duct tape in the bottom of the bag along with the shoes. The make up kit had plenty of sparkles spilled everywhere, along with the eye lash extensions that should have been washed two or three performances ago. The hair accessories for the performance were also included into the overloaded kit of supplies. I rushed back outside from the back stage doors; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think in my family the richness is my mother s affection. Because of my mother s affection, in our home: full of joy (Dalai Lama, 2009). In his talk, the Dalai Lama discussed the moral principles or code of ethics that guided his exemplary life. He touched on the value of affection that all human beings received from their mothers and parents (Dalai Lama, 2009). The Issue of Palestinian Refugees Right of Return The Issue of Right of Return of the Palestinian Refugees The problem is that Israelis and Palestinians are divided over the more than 4 million Palestinian refugees who insist on returning to the homes that they lost during the 1948 and later during the 6 Day War in 1967. Palestinians claim that these were their homes and they have a right to return to them Israelis, on the other hand, generally, find the idea of such an exponential return of Palestinians to the heart of Israel frightening since it may override the ratio of balance of Palestinians to Israelis as well as importing possible terrorism (e.g. Quandt, 2005) The refuge problem first initiated with the 1948 War Which Israelis dub the War of Independence and Palestinians call the Nakba when some 700,000 Arab residents (85%) left their home, some voluntarily, others forced, finding refuge in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and the Gaza Strip, which was then administered by Egypt. Others were left homeless in Israel. (Brynen, 2007) whilst the Six Day War caused a further flight of 280,000 to 325,000 Palestinians from Israeli won territory. The Oslo Accords in 1993, negotiated by the EU, Israel, and the US, recognized a Palestinian state under the Fatah party (led by Yasser Arafat) and established that the Palestinian refugees would be controlled by this rule. Comprised of blacks as well as whites the NAACP held a firm belief in the constitution and sought to bring about change by using the legal system to garner African Americans the equality they deserved. The NAACP established its own legal fund and went on to win Brown vs Board under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall. They also worked on the local level supporting things such as the Montgomery Bus boycott as well as providing lawyers and paying legal costs. SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) was formed at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1960. Can they all be lumped into one group of empathy lacking, sadistic, depressed individuals, or do they each act due to their own separate reasons? Although the media makes it seem as if school campus massacres are becoming an increasingly common threat, the reality is that an event of that caliber is exceptionally rare. When news of an active shooter situation hits the media, word spreads quickly, especially when the event takes place at a school. Before long, expert psychologists, law enforcement personnel, and even ordinary citizens begin to look into the shooter s personal life, attempting to find a piece of evidence that could help explain why they opened fire. • 13. Smell versus Taste with Food Taste and smell are something we use every day. From the moment we wake up,we are smelling things all around us. We taste food every single time it enters our mouth. But, do we really know how each of them work? Every time we put something in our mouths we are able to taste it. Taste is one of the five senses: touch, smell, hear, vision, and taste. Small structures, papillae, found on the surface of the tongue, upper esophagus, and epiglottis are responsible for taste. We have over 10,000 taste buds or papillae. They were first discovered by Georg Meissner(1829 1905) and Rudolf Wagner(1805 1864).The process of tasting is called gustation. Chemical substances in solutions stimulate the cells and they send nerve impulses to the brain, we detect this as taste. The word taste is derived from a Latin word, taxare, meaning to feel , to touch of to judge. When an individual puts a substance in their mouth, five distinct tastes can be detected. These five distinct sensations or qualities are sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami. When any of these tastes touch the tongue, the receptors send signals to the brain on what to interpret. Each taste has a different chemical reaction. For example, when saliva breaks down sodium ions (Na+) or acids, your tongue detects it as salty or sour(Light,2009). The chemical break down for a sweet taste is hard to specify because many chemical elements are involved. Taste buds are located all around the tongue, the cheeks, and the ... Because of this, more labor was needed. This need for more labor was not only in the north, but in the south as well due to their mass production of cotton. The House of Representatives uses the states population to determine how many representatives each state receives in the House. In the southern states, they thought that everyone, including slaves, should be counted. The northern states did not think that it was fair to count the slaves in the total population, since there were a lot more slaves in the south than the north. Both sides agreed to the 3/5 Compromise. This compromise said that for every 5 slaves, they would be counted as 3 citizens. Therefore, 60% of the slave population would be used when the states population is counted. Slavery in the United States lasted until towards the end of the Civil War and even some after the Emancipation Proclamation, since it only freed slaves in the South and not in the North. All s Fair in Love and War Essay All s fair in Love and War We have all realized, at one point, that war is a part of our society; it is a part of our lives whether we want to admit it or not. In the times that we are in today the only way to be a hero is to do something charitable, or to stand up for your political beliefs. The sad truth is that our society today no longer accepts the war aspect as being a hero. In my eyes a person that is brave and courageous to risk their lives for someone is definitely a hero. • 21. Fashion Design Essay In the last few months, I have been studying the market of clothing manufacturing heavily. From quality to fabric cost, the whole idea of clothing manufacturing is very appealing to a young man that would like to pursue a career in graphic and architectural design. I will be sharing my personal experience with clothing manufacturing, as well as the differences between trade offs and opportunity costs. A lot of times, people overlook how difficult it really is to establish a successful brand or collection for a clothing line. A significant amount of thought must go into this process because of all of the resources that are necessary to take into account. With a clothing line, I believe that it is absolutely necessary for one to take the economic portion equally, if not, more seriously than the actual creative direction and design. Fabric is the number one reason for this. Based on trends of the last few years in street wear , more brands that have a primary teenage audience have sprouted into replicating the aesthetic of higher end brands because of the shift in culture that the social media market has cultivated. This caused a boom in the street wear market, because the cost of replicating a high end fashion t shirt in a country like China, is very inexpensive. The reason for this has to do with the fabric, and as well as the advertising manipulation that goes on behind the scenes. See, most of the kids who are purchasing these replicated high end products, haven t felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Effects Of Social Media In The 21st Century Social Media in the Twenty First Century The first social media site that was actively used, Myspace, was created in 2003. In the upcoming years after this, numerous social media sites were created, such as, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The effects of social media on people have been researched for several years. Two authors, Shirley Lee and Eva Wiseman, have similar and different views on social media. Using their views and persuasive methods, they wrote an article on the outcomes of social media. The conclusion of social media, from both authors, is that it can be useful in everyday life, damaging to teens mental health, and cause lingering effects. Social media can be very useful in everyday lives. In Lee s view, she used her Facebook application to send gifts to her friends she didn t get to see often in person. She insists that Facebook is a cool app for sending gifts and I have 50 ongoing conversations on the app (Lee 4). Facebook can help you keep in touch with distant family, or friends, by posting pictures or status. Similarly, Wiseman states that young girls use it to stay connected. The author, Wiseman, generalized that they post pictures, and status updates often throughout a day. However, Wiseman s opposing view on using social media everyday is that it can put pressure on teenagers because they feel as if they have to keep posting to stay pertinent. He discusses different topics such as education, justice, medicine, and many more. The book mainly focuses on Sumer but as you read you start to notice that our world and Sumerian world are similar. It s an eye opener to how everything we do came about and where it all started. The part we don t actually know is how Sumerians came up with their way of living. Many may assume that their ancient world is so different but after reading History Begins at Sumer they would later realize the similarities outweighs the differences. Kramer wrote that Sumerians and modern humans are fundamentally analogous, comparable, and reciprocally illuminating (Kramer, 259). Six Degrees Of Separation And The Human Veil Analysis Fred Schepisi s Six Degrees of Separation (1993) and Robert Benton s The Human Stain (2003) are two films from the post racial era that each accurately depict the lives of two tragic, passing characters. Paul, portrayed by Will Smith in Schepisi s film, passes not on the basis of race but of social class and sexuality. Within Benton s motion picture, Coleman Silk, Anthony Hopkins, passes as a professor and dean of a university through the use of a racial masquerade. The stories that follow these similarly different characters and how they choose to engage in their respective surroundings are widely effected by the individuals that Paul and Coleman both interact with. A thorough personal analysis of the whiteness encompassing the lives of Paul and Coleman alongside other professional critiques of Six Degrees of Separation and The Human Stain reveals a parallel trend of Otherness. In Schepisi s film, Paul is by no means the central character of the story. The plot of Six Degrees of Separation recounts the effect of Paul on Flan and Ouisa Kittredge, two privileged white art dealers in New York. Shcepisi utilizes both Paul s blackness and Otherness to emphasize the Kittredge s whiteness. One critic stated, the black character is often a supporting player or background material in the story of the white man s spiritualization or maturation (Gillan 132). The Merriam Webster dictionary states, Language is the system of words or signs that people use to express thoughts and feelings to each other: and one of the systems of human language that are used and understood by a particular group of people: words of a particular kind . Additionally, the American Heritage Dictionary defines language as, a communication of thoughts and feelings through a system of arbitrary signals, such as voice sounds, gestures, or written symbols . Between these two definitions of language we can see how complicated the history of human language actually is. The definitions vary based on the assumptions of whether the writer believes language is more learned or instinctive behavior. The debates on the origin of language are still going on today. There are two basic views represented in the definitions of language. The first view is based on language being primarily a mental faculty of humans to learn languages and the biological differences that are unique to the human brain. The second view is concentrated around the idea that learning a language is natural. While other views are more centered on the structured learning of formal signs. This form of therapy has the client focus on the past and understand how it has positively or negatively affected his/her behavior and outlook on life. There are many advantages and disadvantages to taking this historical approach when working with families. Starting with the advantages of psychodynamic therapy, a client is able to re examine past conflicts and work though unresolved issues that could be hindering his/her present day life. The Impact Of Illegal Immigrants On US Wages The Impact of Illegal Immigrants on US Wages Jessica Cotter ECON 3231 11/20/2017 The United States of America has the highest number of immigrants in the world. The population of both illegal and undocumented immigrants has increased drastically over the past decade. According to the current statistics, there are 11.9 million estimated illegal immigrants living and working in the USA. The statistics translate to five hundred thousand new entrants annually in the last ten years. The remaining 40% of illegal immigrants arrive on temporary visas but they choose to remain in the country after their visas expire. However, the state of the recession has temporarily stopped the population growth of unauthorized immigrants, but entry into the US is expected to resume after the recovery of its economy if past experience is a guide. Immigration policies and reforms have raised political heat with President Trump threatening to deport all illegal immigrants. However, the Democrats and Republicans never seem to agree on immigration reforms. Donald Trump has promised to build a wall on the US Mexico border to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants as well as curb drug and human trafficking routes. President Trump seems to be committed to his immigration reforms based on his temporary executive order to stop immigrants from Somalia, Yemen, and Iran among other Arab states from entering the US. It comes with responsibilities and rules you must follow in order to keep it. It s also not a guarantee of access. Here are five facts you need to know about your medical marijuana card. Cards Expire Your medical marijuana card expires and must be renewed. How often you need to renew varies by state. Californians must renew their card every year while those in New Jersey must renew only every two years. Marijuana Isn t on The Formulary The federal government considers marijuana an illegal Schedule I drug. It does not permit marijuana use in public places or anywhere that cigarette smoking is prohibited. You will be fined for smoking or otherwise consuming marijuana in public, even with a medical marijuana card. Travel Carefully Medical marijuana use is not legal in every state. Note, too, that states honor only their own medical marijuana cards and permits. A New Jersey card will not protect you from legal ramifications in California, even though both states allow medical marijuana usage. Some states do reciprocate with others. In this instance, you will need to register for and purchase marijuana in the state you are visiting and use it there. Even with a reciprocating agreement, carrying marijuana across state lines is a federal crime. DUI Is Possible In 2016, an Arizona appeals court ruled in favor of protecting medical marijuana users from DUI charges. It was determined, however, that cardholders could still be charged with DUI if police can prove they were too impaired to be driving. Remember that is is still unwise and illegal to operate a vehicle while under the influence of marijuana, even if you hold a medical marijuana card. There are still legal kinks and slippery slopes affecting the use of medical marijuana. Keep this in mind when you get your medical marijuana card and make sure you understand what it permits and what it doesn t. Your local officials and doctor will both be happy to answer your questions and help you follow the appropriate medical cannabis

  • 48. Nuclear Energy And Its Effects 1. Background Nuclear energy can be produced by fission, by splitting a nucleus into smaller products, (precisely equal parts). These products are equal to half of the original mass. In the process of nuclear fission, energy and neutrons will be emitted. Along with the emission of neutrons, also during the process of fission, a large amount of a product s energy is released. Every day we are surrounded by so much radiation however, only some radiation can be harmful to us. Radiation such as microwaves, radio waves, and infrared are classes as non ionizing and are not a threat to humans. Radiation classed as Ionizing radiation is most definitely harmful to us because it has the capability of removing electrons from other atoms and then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also have a less powerful ionizing rate compared to alpha particles. Gamma rays are energy, also known as electromagnetic radiation. They have no charge or mass. They move through the air extremely quickly (at the speed of light) and to ionize them, they need to directly hit the nucleus of an atom. This suggests that gamma rays have a very low ionizing rate and can travel much t=further through the air compared to alpha and beta particles. Nuclear fuelled power plants are very similar to fossil fuelled power pants, in which they both turn water into steam in order to control the turbine generators that produce energy; the only difference is the source of heat. At nuclear power plants, a nuclear reactor produces and controls the amount of energy that is released when atoms of Uranium split, which is called fission. The heat that is used to make this steam is created by this form of fission. Uranium fuelled nuclear power plants are a clean and efficient way of boiling water to produce the steam that is used to operate the turbine generators within the power plant. Figure 1 shows the equation for the nuclear fission of uranium 235. 2. Discussion Even though we use Nuclear energy to give places electricity, Nuclear energy is used in many more things than just in the production of electricity.
