Literary Analysis Of Marge Piercy s Barbie Doll And ...
Allusion and Metaphor in the Poems of Marge Piercy
Although the poems Barbie Doll and A Work of Artifice both deal with the subject of women, Marge
Piercy uses subtly different approaches in tone of voice, metaphorical style, and use of irony. While
Barbie Doll uses the form of allusion to compare a female child to a doll and demonstrates a strong
tone of anger and irony, A Work of Artifice uses metaphor as a way to discuss the subject of women
indirectly. Both poems succeed in making strong statements about the position of women in society
and how they are constructed by society to serve others. In the first stanza of Barbie Doll, Piercy
refers to the child in the third person. She writes about how the young girl is socialized into acting like
a girl, just like all the rest. She writes, This girlchild was born as usual/ and presented dolls that did
pee pee/ and miniature GE stoves and irons/ and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy. (Piercy 1, 4).
In these first four lines, Piercy makes a strong statement that even as children, girls are given the
accessories of grown women. Through play with these toys, they become accustomed to interacting
with domestic appliances and make up products. They are given dolls that are meant to function as
stand ins for their own future infants. By using the words wee and miniature and candy, Piercy is
suggesting that these are conditioning tools that are packaged as appealing toys so that the girl

Employment Discrimination Against Individuals Based On...
Introduction This new generation brings new challenges that in the past were taboo. In the sixties and
seventies, a hippie was widely accepted, but now being transgender is not favorable. The hiring
process has many different attributes that employers have to deal with. Some aspects include physical
appearance, lifestyle, and language. For several decades, the law has forbidden discrimination against
individuals based on age, race, national origin, or sex, and these factors should not be in job
specifications or recruitment advertisements (Shaw, 2014, 284). Employment discrimination against
physical appearance, lifestyle, and language is not only wrong but also unethical.
I. Physical Appearance Psychologists have long known that people form impressions of others purely
based on their appearance (Duarte, Siegel, Young, 2012, p.2455). Today s society puts great
importance on people s physical appearance (Yang, Stoeber, 2012, p.69). Not everyone can be have a
size 2 Victoria Secret model body or look like Duane Johnson (The Rock). Veterans have a harder
time getting jobs now because of their physical characteristics after the Iraqi war. Perfect looks are
highly valued because they symbolize success, happiness, and being loved and admired by others;
consequently, many people strive to look perfect, and many others are concerned about their physical
appearance worrying that they may not look perfect (Yang, Stoeber, 2012, p.69). The Civil Rights

Names In The Bible
Since day one, names have been important and special. It is the first gift we receive from our parents
the day we are born, and it is how we identify ourselves from that day forward. The first thing that is
said when introducing oneself is your name. There s something about calling someone by name that
indicates meaning and intentionality. Names are important to our parents, our friends, and everyone
around us, but most importantly, they are special and significant to God. In the Bible, there is a pattern
of God giving people new names when they realize their calling. For example, Abram was changed to
Abraham and Saul was changed to Paul after his conversion on the road to Damascus. In Isaiah 43:1 it
says, Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. The God of
the universe knows and calls us by name. You can t get more loving and personal than that. In an
article about the importance of God knowing each of our names, Beth Ariel states, He knows each of
us personally and intimately, calling us by name. It is almost too much for our finite minds to grasp
that the God who created the heavens and the earth knows each of us by name (Ariel 1). In the Bible,

Lord, Jehovah, or Master. God s name is almost always translated LORD in the English Bible. But the

Athanasius s Doctrine Of Arius
When it came time for Athanasius, the deacon, to counterargue Arius s doctrine, he was first met with
discrimination and disrespect due to his position as a deacon. Nonetheless, he began by defending
Christ s divinity. He stated in the council that Christ was not created by God by using the evidence
from the Gospel of Saint John, In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God. (John 1:1) By this verse, Athanasius explained that the Word was Jesus Christ, he was
already with the Father from the beginning of time, the only thing that makes him different was that he
was born of the Virgin Saint Mary and have taken part of humanity. Further on, Athanasius quoted
another verse from the Gospel of Saint John that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They voted on whether the council preferred Arius doctrine was correct or Athanasius s doctrine. The
votes were gathered and it was clear that Athanasius s depiction of Christ s divinity and humanity was
the correct doctrine. The council then had to ensure that there wouldn t be another heresy like Arius
again in the Christian Church, so the Council of Nicaea created the Nicaean Creed which emphasizes
Christ s divinity with the Father but with taking part of humanity. The Nicaean Creed was also made
to strengthen the faith of the Christian Church and to always remind the that Jesus has a divinity. The
Nicaean Creed can be found in many of the Orthodox Christian Churches which state, We believe in
one Lord Jesus Christ... light of light, true God of God, begotten not created, with one essence with
the Father, (Schaff, 126). With the Creed being created this eventually lead to the end of the Arius
heresy that almost would have ended the Christian religion. The believers realizes that if per
impossible the Church had not there and then set forth in plainest terms the Catholic Faith as
expressed in the Nicene Creed, the Christian Faith would have perished miserably. (Pope,

determining the customer s satisfaction that led to the loss of the customer? Was the problem simply a

Companies in all industries and of all sizes understand that customers are perhaps their most valuable

In order to have a successful long term relationship the most important thing is to have mutual trust.
Because without trust ( partners can trust and depend on each other, resolve problems as they arise and
settle differences between them when it necessary) unhappy customers will not stay loyal to the
company and will go out to our competitors. According to J. Tanner trust is a belief by one party that
the other party will fulfill its obligations in a relationship (p.362). When we earned the trust of the
other party, our relationship is strong and we do not need to constantly monitor each other s actions
because both believe that other parties will act in a way that is best for both parties. But trust only is
not enough, which is why it is a combination of five factors: dependability, competence, customer
orientation, honesty and likability. As we can see, Tony did not possess the honesty factor. When
Sharon Collins raise the problems about the copiers, Tony was also aware of the problem but hadn t

the problem and the problem would be solved in one way or another. The problem occurs when

The Consequences Of Monetary Policy
Monetary policy has to do with the regulations that a government puts in place to control money in
circulation in the economy. An effective monetary policy will ensure that current and anticipated
events in the economy of a country are taken care of. The Federal Reserve (The Fed) is the central
bank of the United States, and it is responsible for the formulation and execution of these policies.
Banks made available huge amounts of money available in form of loans; banks were responsible for
creating large debts in form of loan interests. People who had borrowed were eventually unable to pay.
The creation of private credit and money led to a financial crisis, threatening to make banks bankrupt.

Lenders felt the burden left by defaulters and their capital reduced.
Subprime borrowers are those borrowers who have low credit ratings and poor creditworthiness. The
subprime mortgage market meltdown began on 9 August 2007 and continued into 2008 (Cecchetti,
2008). It arose when banks created a lot of money in a short time and used the opportunity to raise
house prices and speculations on financial markets. Initial subprime mortgages were affordable and
many borrowers were attracted to them. However, they were adjustable after a given duration. It is this
adjustment that instigated many defaults in payments, mostly beginning in 2007 when higher
payments were demanded. By 2009, banks were going bankrupt due to the high number of defaulted
mortgage payments.
Also, lenders came up with creative mortgage packages upon speculations of growing house prices.
With mortgage backed securities (MBS), the process of securitization occurs whereby home
mortgages are grouped into categorized pools by the issuing banks. They are then sold as a single
security where the risks are spread out. These pooled assets backed securities were attractive to both
lender and borrower because lender sold the loan and borrower accessed credit easily. Such
collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) were sold to other market investors to reduce the risk of
default. These investors were attracted by the higher returns, especially due to the lower interests.

If you asked people what they thought kindness was, what would they say? Would they give a generic
answer? Would they say they didn t know? Many would say that is being nice to others. But is that
REALLY what kindness is? Is kindness for people to show appreciation for others? Is it a way to show
that you love someone? Not recently. Recently it has become a mask, a way to gain attention, and a
way to make people think you are better than them.
Kindness is a mask people use to hide their true identity. People use kindness as an excuse to draw
attention to themselves. It is used as a way for people to say, Hey, look at me! I did something nice!

The Importance Of Education In Mike Rose s Why School
Beyond the Classroom Education means something different for everyone. According to Mike Rose, a
good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in it (33). The truth to this is that
education affects us in every aspect of our lives. Rose emphasizes the value in the experience of
education beyond the value of education for the purpose of custom or intelligence; he explores the
purpose of going to school in terms of how he defines himself and his personal growth in the stages of
his academic career. In Rose s exploration of the purpose of school, he also reflects on his personal
experiences and how those experiences gave him tools that are applicable to his daily life. Mike Rose
s Why School?: Reclaiming Education for All of Us persuades his audience of the importance of
education beyond the classroom, emphasizing how those experiences become crucial to one s personal
growth and potential. Rose elaborates on the significance of education by reflecting on his own
perspective on and how that shaped his identity. His childhood gave him the opportunity to experience
the contrast between a positive learning environment and a negative one. This also shaped him to have
an evident positive outlook on education. He expresses, I ve experienced classrooms as both places of
flat disconnection and growth and inspiration, and this mix has proved invaluable as I myself have

Colonial Rule Of Independence And Independence
At independence, all states have the option to retain or abolish appeal to the JCPC. Assuming that a
colony s goal at independence is to free itself from the colonial power s control, why would a state
decide to retain a colonial institution that is an important to the POGG of an independent state? I posit
that states desire a final appellate court that is likely to uphold and legitimize the policies of the nation
s governing elite. The length and type of colonial rule influence the national governing elite s decision
about the final appellate court at independence. Some states that retain the right of appeal to an
extraterritorial court at independence later abolish the right, while others continue to allow appeals to
this extraterritorial court. This mutability raises two additional questions. First, why do we see
variations in the length of time some states retained those ties after independence? Second, why do
some states ultimately decide to abolish appeals to the JCPC and establish a domestic ultimate appeals
court? I posit that states that retain appeals to the JCPC at independence may later decide to abolish
appeals if they perceive a divergence between the state s policies and the JCPC that reduces the
likelihood that the JCPC will uphold and legitimize the state s policies. A disconnect between the
decisions of the JCPC and the state s policies may emerge over time, leading the governing national
coalition to take steps to abolish that right of appeal.

Earned Income Tax Credit Evaluation Essay
Earned Income Tax Credit Evaluation Meyer (2010) states that since the birth of the EITC in 1975 it
has grown dramatically in size and is now the largest antipoverty program for the non aged in the
United States. Meyer (2010) continues that in 2007, 25 million families received EITC payments
totaling $49.7 billion. Meyer (2010) avers that as a result, the EITC lifted at least 4.0 million
individuals above the poverty line. Meyer (2010) further continues to explain that in addition to
directly raising incomes, the EITC has sharply changed work incentives, currently increasing the after‐
tax wage by up to 45% for those with low earnings.
The EITC overall is part of the tax system and does not necessitate individuals to have a tax liability
that the credit offsets. Meyer (2010) maintains that a person without a net tax liability receives it as a
payment that, by 2009, could be as large as $5,657. The objective of the EITC has been to move
earnings while stimulating employment. This characteristic paved the way for political support for its
early acceptance and for its following development. The agenda has undertaken more distinction in
recent years as policy makers have sought to decrease the reliance that they assert has been promoted
by welfare programs.

Essay about The Life and Literary Works of Shirley Jackson
Shirley Jackson was born on December 14, 1919 to Leslie and Geraldine Jackson. Her surroundings
were comfortable and friendly. Two years after Shirley was born, her family with her newborn brother
moved from San Francisco to Burlingame, California, about thirty miles away. According to her
mother, Shirley began to compose verse almost as soon as she could write it (Friedman, 18). As a
child, Shirley was interested in sports and literature. In 1930, a year before she attended Burlingame
High School, Shirley began writing poetry and short stories. Jackson enrolled in the liberal arts
program at the University of Rochester in 1934. But after periods of unhappiness and questioning the
loyalty of her friends, she withdrew from the university. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not until the year of her death in 1965 twenty five years later was the medal finally awarded to her in

In 1940, after their graduation Hyman and Jackson, who had a relationship, were married. While
living in Vermont, Jackson continued to write. One of her earliest times in Vermont later became
material for her first book about the family, Life Among the Savages. Between 1945 and 1947,
Jackson was occupied with her first novel, The Road Through the Wall. But it was in 1948 that her
greatest success was achieved. The publication of the short story, The Lottery , brought fame, as well
as letters from readers all over the country. But more often there were abusive letters from people who
did not understand her motives or what she was trying to do. A year later a book entitled, The Lottery ,

when a story idea would come to her, she would bolt off to her typewriter. Instead of fighting writing,
as other writers do; she found the opposite; that writing was relaxing.

Essay on Iron Cage
In chapter one of The Iron Cage, Rashid Khalidi sets the stage for the premise of his book, by
examining the conflicting evidence of the Palestinians plight. In order to do so, the narrative begins in
1948, following the eviction of more than half of the Arab Palestinian population as a result of the
Arab Israel conflict of that year. Khalidi goes on to enumerate a few of the respective differing Arab
and Israel accounts of how it was that a people that once constituted the majority of the population of
a land, became the minority. Revisionist Israeli historians have attempted to debunk traditional
accounts that absolve Israel of any wrongdoing, such as the notion that Palestinians attacked the

Eventually, even al Husayni could not ignore the disaffection of the situation, and he too dissented, by
joining the ranks of dissidents opposing the British backed Zionist regime.
Khalidi appropriately begins chapter three, by picking up where chapter two left off highlighting the
infectiveness of the Palestinian leadership. Early on in the chapter, the importance of factionalism
within the leadership takes precedence, and the two prominent groups of the time are denoted: al
Husayni and al Nashashibi. Khalidi goes onto give background on the two competing factions, and the
reader learns that both parties had previous ties to the ruling political apparatus of the former Ottoman
Empire. Unabashedly, both parties vied for power, because of their inherent belief of superiority to
that of the average Palestinian. Playing right into the British and Zionist hands, the divide can conquer
technique of pinning the leadership against each other, denied an effective campaign to be waged that

Safe to say, the leaders of the Palestinian opposition were riddled by bribes and back room deals,
which essentially made them quintessential puppets that could easily be controlled. Furthermore,
Palestinian leadership largely functioned under a modus operandi, based upon wishful thinking,
believing the British/Zionist movement would suddenly come to its senses and return the land to
Palestinians. The failure of the

Carnival And Calypso Dance
The West Indian Dance of Calypso has a long history. Where its origins trace back to Africa it s
become popularized in Trinidadian culture and becomes the most popular around the holiday time of
Christmas. Since Calypso and Carnival have such strong connections there is some background
information that you definitely need to know. Carnival and Calypso are part of the colonial and post
colonial history of Caribbean islands such as Trinidad and Antigua. As early as the 18th century,
Africans, who were at the time slaves living in Antigua, celebrated Carnival. They had used these
dances as a form of communication between each other, often times this was used to mock the slave
masters without them knowing. During this time in the 18th century the French planters used carnival
times to celebrate the period as a pre Lenten celebration, which was basically a preparation period for
the coming of lent . (Hughes)
All through these carnivals involved street procession costumes, music, dancing, and feasting. The
culture continued even after the British changed the French as colonial rulers. all through colonial
instances, slaves held separate celebrations. Their Carnival practices included stick fighting, dancing,
drumming, making a song and the staging of quick plays. role playing turned into an integral a part of
Carnival and remains the case these days. Ex slaves masqueraded as White slave masters at the same

The Black Walnut Tree By Mary Oliver
The Past is Rooted
Change is inevitable; as the years go on, everything is always either improving or weakening, but still
changing. Nothing can prevent change, but there are still those who ignore it and refuse it. Individuals
refused to accept their past because they do not want to change, they want to focus on the present. In
Mary Oliver s free verse poem, The Black Walnut Tree, the daughter discusses the argument with her
mother regarding the selling of their Black Walnut Tree, commenting on it s personal history with her
ancestors. In the poem, Oliver contrasts the daughter s disagreeing perception of the mother s
consumeristic urges to sell their tree with her need to preserve it and its memories through the use of
dark, gloomy word choice and varying concepts of time, illustrating the everlasting effect and
importance of one s past and ancestry on the present. The shift from a literal to figurative tone
contrasts the mother s views with those of the daughter s, commenting on the difficulty of preserving
history. Oliver introduces the mother and daughters argument in the introduction, My mother and I
debate:, including a semicolon at the end of the first stanza. The semicolon is used as a layout for the
rest of the poem, to show the words following are in fact the debate between the speaker, the daughter,
and her mother. The point of view in the daughter shifts the argument in favor of the daughter, who
has yet to deal with the issues of money. She regards her

The Importance Of Motivation In Education
Education is the key to eliminate gender discrimination, to decrease poverty, to foster social peace in
our communities and to create a sustainable development. But, how can we encourage our children to
study effectively? In other words, how can we prepare them for success? Motivation is the secret
behind student success. Motivation helps to explain why some children get impressive education
results despite poverty, while others get ordinary results despite highly sophisticated teaching
methods. Which factors affecting students motivation? And how it works in the lives of girls and
boys? Despite the fact that girls outperform their male peers, and hyper control of girls acts as a kind
of motivator which makes them study harder than boys, boys are not defective. Motivation is the main
factor which is shaped by parents and teachers. In many Middle Eastern public schools; elements have
cooperated together to create an educational system which is not appropriate for anyone but
particularly not for boys. Boys feel like their teachers do not care about them, and they had
experienced a worse relationship with their teachers. Also, they reported physical punishment which
had been occurred at school. Moreover, boys have their own society which aims to enforce their
masculinity away from classrooms and academic goals that is why they lose their motivation to study
hard. This is the topic that Amanda Ripley (2017) focuses on in her article Boys are not defective . In
her article Ripley (2017) discusses that male teachers practices have a negative effect on boys
motivation. They do not care about boys well performance, tend to punish them physically and shout
at them. In addition, the notions of masculinity among boys make them feel like schools will not help
them to reach manhood. My firm conviction is those worse relationships between boys and teachers,
insulting and corporal punishment and the internal desire of students to achieve their manhood outside
classrooms; this would affect badly on their motivation, and would decrease their academic
performance.
I am totally agree with the author since teachers are one of the major factors which stands behind boys
performance, and teachers mistreatment towards boys

India The film Slumdog Millionaire narrates a story about the life of eighteen year old Jamal Malik,
his brother Salim, and friend Latika and how life was growing up in the slum of India. The film takes
place in Mumbai, India where Jamal is on a TV show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and is one

has a difficult time believing Jamal, an uneducated young boy from the slums, could have made it this

Jamal is asked, we are taken back even further to Jamal s childhood and the occurrences in his life that
lead to him to knowing the answers to each of the challenging questions on the famous game show.
Fairly quickly in to the movie, there is a distinct difference with Jamal and his brother Salim. Jamal
can be characterized as a soft and careful child, while on the other hand, Salim is just the opposite.

The perspective of ethical quality in our cutting edge society indicates like sentiments with those of

Women openings were restricted by polygamy. There s just a single particular law of marriage that
administered them, and it s that men couldn t have two formal wives. This didn t keep men from going
to a ton of different women, which gives a great part of the storyline behind the Genji being a Don
Juan (The Tale of Genji; p 30). Likewise, this sort of custom of men having a polygamous nature isn t
viewed as discourteous amid this time. Waka couplets in The Tale of Genji; have special commitment
towards the hugeness of the story. In The Tale of Genji, waka poetry overruns each part of life from
romance to court custom to artistic enjoyment; and as a result of these capacities, the waka is quickly
fused into the Heian exposition narrative (Damrosch and Pike, p 223). Nearer reading of the waka
couplets in The Tale of Genji; makes it apparent that they contribute not just to the excellence of style
yet additionally to the making of a lyrical method of portrayal (The Tale of Genji; p 41). The multi
meaning and double working of many words in the waka make a thickness of allusions.

The Structures And Functions Of Different Lipocalins
This paper mainly deals with a small family of proteins Lipocalins . The structures and functions of
different lipocalins have been widely discussed. The structural similarity, physiological functions,
synthesis, their number of amino acid residues, secondary structures of each lipocalin has been widely
analyzed throughout this paper.
Lipocalins are a family of proteins which contribute various physiological role in small molecules.
Lipocalins are found to take part in binding, storage or sequestration of many low molecular weight
compounds which shows poor solubility and easy decomposition, thereby stabilizing them and playing
an important role. In humans lipocalins are present as secretory proteins in blood, genital secretions
and tears.
About Lipocalins: Lipocalins are small monomeric proteins with 150 180 residues, having compact
fold with central eight β strands. There are four loops which connect the β strands and forms a cup
shaped cavity. Different lipocalins can accommodate different chemical ligands (lipids, steroids,
vitamins, cofactors etc.) of various shapes and sizes, depending on the length of the amino acid
sequence of the loops. The name Lipocalins were given to a group of proteins comprising of the
human α1 acid glycoprotein, α1 microglobulin, serum/plasma retinol binding protein, and bovine β
lactoglobulin on the basis of sequence homologies, disulfide bonds, functional similarities and their
ability to bind with +complex lipophilic substances in

Summary Of Aldo Leopold s Land Ethic
Just because we can t share sell shares in nature doesn t mean it has no value (Thomas Friedman).
Planet Earth, as we all know, is an astonishingly complex and delicate network of dependent systems
that have developed gradually over the past 4.6 billion years or so. Slowly, structured elements we
refer to as nature evolved into significant components of the earth. Ironically, humans with their
notably shorter period on earth have come to dominate and manipulate the landscape to the point of
environmental degradation. Aldo Leopold s Land Ethic addresses this issue by challenging the way
humans look at nature and its resources. He insists on the practice of moral responsibility to land by
enlarging the boundaries of our community alongside elements like animals, plants, and ecosystems
(Leopold, Land Ethic ) Leopold appeals to emotion by showcasing the real value that lies within
nature and its beauty rather than the economic value that creates only selfishness in individuals.
Virginia Woolf is also able to emotionally engage readers in her essay Death of a Moth by depicting
the real struggle between life and death with a Moth s struggle for survival that ultimately ends with
death. With her implementation of rhetorical devices, she s able to provoke a sense of pity and
emotional connection towards the animal. By looking at Woolf s essay through Leopold s Land of
Ethic, the ability to see nature as an equal member of our community rather than that of inferiority

pipeline. This is because the United States of America and Canada are very close to each other, which
creates less distance for the pipe to travel through, nor does it need to be built to withstand an

Human Cells And The Human Body
Kidneys are one of the most essential organs in a human body which are crucial for blood filtration,
toxins, and waste removal and maintaining and regulating the body s pH. The researchers created
kidney structures from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS) called organoids which have the function
and structural organization of a human fetal kidney in the first trimester. This study used the results of
a previous study where human embryonic stem cells were differentiated towards a renal lineage. As a
result, the progenitors for both collecting ducts and nephrons were generated from iPS. In that study,
the researchers found out that although both nephrons and collecting ducts originate from the
intermediate mesoderm layer, they develop at a different specific time and area from the mesoderm
layer. The intermediate mesoderm layer is a germ layer arising from the mesoderm, and it is important
in the development of kidneys, reproductive system, and lower urinary tract of the embryo. Thus, the
scientists exploited this temporospatial origin difference, and they identified the regulating mechanism
behind what caused the induction of collecting duct versus other kidney progenitors like the nephrons
for instance. As a result of this finding, kidney organoids were formed which were segmented into
distal and proximal tubules, loops of Henle, glomeruli, and podocytes which establish a
vascularization network. This study is important in near future because it can be used as a model for

result. Almost at the same date of Sandy Hook, their is another case happened in China. A man who
suffered unfair treatment by goverment tring to attact a kindergarten, All weapons he has, is a knife.
What result he caused ? Only a teacher get hurted, nobody dead! Why there is a big difference
between these two events? Weapons. American have better way to avoid kill and wound when bad
thing happened but chinese not because it s not that often happened to us but I have never heard that a
Criminal can kill that much people in school. I believe that if the Chinese criminal has the same
weapon as the criminal of Sandy Hook, everything will be changed. This is what guns can change, not
only the result. If the criminal don t have gun, maybe he will not to do that because he almost can t kill
anyone and will get arrest.
Not only citizens are getting killed, let s counting how many president of The America get killed by
assassin. Abraham Lincoln, April 14, 1865, Ford s theatre; James Garfield, July 2 1881, Baltimore and
Potomac Railroad Station:William McKinley, Sept. 6, 1901, Pan American Exposition; John F.
Kennedy,Nov. 22, 1963 411 Elm Street. And there are so many unsuccess assassin. How many

Loopy Lydia Diary
Short story
Seven days ago, something awful happened. I m only writing this diary entry as I need to get my anger
and frustration out some way. The guilt inside me is eating me alive it s growing and growing. The
pain is invading my whole body. Let me start from the beginning, then will it all begin to make sense.
I hated the man with a passion, the mere thought of him made me sick to my stomach. You could say
that I haven t been the same since that day. I hardly eat and I like to keep to myself. The girls in my
school call me loopy Lydia. It s only because I don t speak in class and I prefer to draw then speak.
People think I don t understand, what they say, they think I m crazy when in actual fact I can
understand. They say that I have pale, lifeless eyes and that I seem like I m in catatonic state but if
only they knew. My mum knows and I hate that she knows. She had the power to do something to stop
it, to stop that disgusting act. But she didn t, she stood there and watched. She cried and watched but
she didn t stop him. She sat in the corner while it all happened. For 8 years of my life I called that man
my father and now I can t even look him in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My mum left me in the kitchen to make breakfast when he came up to me, I was cutting up some
mushrooms when I felt his hot breath on my neck. He held my arm and began to turn me, I was
resisting as much as I could but he was so strong. I didn t know what to do, so I just jerked my hand
and he fell. It was an accident I swear but I don t regret it. I can picture it in my head right now as I m
writing; his cold body lay on the floor in a pool of crimson; I can picture his face as the blood drained
away and I can picture my mum, she was motionless like a statue. A tear drizzling down her cheeks. I
remember her cradling him and whispering he same five words: Where did we go wrong? . I m
writing this because now nobody will talk to

The Subprime Mortgage Crisis
The Subprime Mortgage crisis
ECO 2072 Principles of Macroeconomics
In the beginning
One of the first indications of the late 2000 financial crisis that led to downward spiral known as the
Recession was the subprime mortgages; known as the mortgage mess . A few years earlier the
substantial boom of the housing market led to the uprising of mortgage loans. Because interest rates
were low, investors took advantage of the low rates to buy homes that they could in return flip
(reselling) and homeowners bought homes that they typically wouldn t have been able to afford. High
interest rates usually keep people from borrowing money because it limits the amount available to use
for an investment. But the creation of the subprime mortgage ... Show more content on

Risky Business
Around 2006 the price of houses began to fall substantially fast. The oversupply of houses and lack of
buyers pushed the house prices down until they really plunged in the late 2006 and early 2007 (The
Subprime Mortgage Crisis Explained). These actions threw investors into a big dilemma. In the
beginning they believed buying the mortgages would bring them a profit, but quickly realized that the
mortgages would cost them more financial damage than reselling the homes. Nationwide, home vales
have declined about 16% since the summer of 2006 and experts project that the drop will continue
until homes have lost about 25% of their value (Biroonak, 2008). In other words mortgage homes are
underwater , that is, the mortgage owed equals or exceeds the value of the house (Biroonak, 2008).
Investors and homeowners started to go more in debt trying to pay off their original debts.
With all of the incentives and mortgage products given so easily to people that couldn t afford the high
prices (including interest rates), many people defaulted on their first mortgages because they were no
longer were able to receive the profit from the homes they first intended to flip. During the first
quarter of 2008, nearly 9% of all mortgage holders were delinquent or in foreclosure, the highest rate
since recordkeeping began in 1979. Foreclosure filings more than

Paul after the Damascus Road Essay
The Apostle Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, is a central figure within both Christian tradition and
New Testament thought and writing. With such a crucial place, it is vital that we come to understand
more of his life and thinking, as well as the world in which he and, more specifically, his theology
were shaped. With this in mind, this essay will seek to explore Paul s conversion and call experience
as understood from Acts, and his personal references to it, drawing from them the ways in which this
time was significant for Paul s theological thinking, as expressed in his letters and work. To achieve
this we will begin by addressing the call and/or conversion debate, arguing that the term conversion
and call best encapsulates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This argument does not, however, decisively remove the possible use of conversion for Paul, as
Stendahl s view that conversion must mean abandonment of a previous religious system is certainly
not a necessary condition. In addition to this, to remove the language of conversion from Paul s
experience is to remove its decisiveness; its absolute alteration of Paul s thinking and being that can be
seen in Gal 1:12 14. In these passages we see Paul speak of the risen Christ, who gave him his
teaching and drew him away from his life in the Law, and as a Pharisee, in which he excelled (Gal
1:14) and which had led him to persecute the Church (Gal 1:13). When this Christocentric language is
placed against his former understanding, which had caused him to persecute the Church, one cannot
simply speak of a call , but rather must move to language of radical turning, of conversion . As this
shows, while Stendahl s argument that Paul should not be considered a convert is not strong enough to
warrant abandonment of the term, his exposition of Paul as called should not be ignored, as, from a
missional point of view, he certainly was. This leads us to the conception of Paul s experience as
encapsulating both call and a conversion dynamic, more fully expressing the reports he and others
gave of this time. The Christocentrism we touched on in the previous paragraph is one of the most
fundamental

Robots Advantages And Disadvantages
In more details I would say that they need some capabilities such as inference, learning, ... which can
involve thinks that popular opinion will associate to think and feel like we do but that does not mean
they are the same. A robot is not a human just like a plane is not a bird or a car is not a horse. They
may accomplish equivalent tasks but neither are doing it the same way as their counterpart. First for
the way a robot is currently used a self driving car, a drone surveying an area (either for filming or
military purpose), an industrial robot, a planetary rover they are just complex tools meant to do the
hard, dirty or boring things we do not want to or can t do on our own. Having them the ability to infer
is highly beneficial as it means that the user can ask them what to do for example go to the closest
grocery store instead of how to do it for example drive straight for 200 yards, turn left, then drive
straight for 2 miles, ... . having also this inference allow them to be able to recover for unexpected
situation (road is blocked due to an accident) and re plan the best course of action accordingly. And
this example just talk about path planning, this can go further for more high level tasks which involves
more than simple motion (for example a home service robot that does simple chore at home such as
setting your dinner table, ...). So in that sense the robot need to be able to think in the sense that it
needs to refine high abstraction

Women s Rites Of Passage
Introduction
Every culture in the world has rites of passage. Whether it be death and dying, birth or a transition
from puberty to adulthood, every culture has certain rituals they use to christen these changes in social
status within a society. A rite of passage is symbolic in how important a change is in the lives of the
people who experience them. Status changes such as these are very important in the eyes of their
culture and the ceremonies they produce help them retain stability while their society adjust to the
changes that are occurring to the individuals. An interesting rite of passage that can be found in many
cultures around the world is a young girls transition into womanhood. Two of the cultures that one
examined this rite in were the Oglala Sioux of South Dakota, and the Tukuna of the Amazon. With the
genocide of the Native Americans, many of the rituals and ceremonies they use have not been seen by
outsiders. Information on any ceremony can be hard to find. Fortunately, the Oglala Sioux Wichasa
Wakhan, holy man, Black Elk recorded these ceremonies before his death. In the book The Sacred
Pipe, Black Elk discusses the seven sacred rites of the Oglala Sioux, one of which is Ishna Ta Awi Cha
Lowan, preparing a young girl for womanhood. (Black Elk, 1989). In this ceremony, the rite is
performed just after the young girls first menstrual cycle. Black Elk states that this transition is very
important to the Oglala Sioux, because this is when a young girl makes

Persuasive Essay On The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
There has been much research in the effort of how to effectively clean and recycle the plastic that has
accumulated in the Great Pacific garbage patch. Many studies have found that the process of actually
trying to scoop up what is now a plastic soup like substance could pose a number of issues. Some
researchers say that the garbage patch could possibly be half the size of the United States which would
be a huge financial challenge for any country to undertake. Charles Moore, an internationally
recognized expert on marine plastic pollution and the man who discovered the vortex, says cleaning
up the garbage patch would bankrupt any country that tried it (Moore). Not only is it a huge financial
challenge, but because the Great Pacific garbage patch is located a great distance from any country s
coastline, there has not been a nation to step up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Earth is drowning in plastic and it is time that we really dig deep on this issue as it s already affecting
the oceans ecosystem. Laws should be passed to make it illegal to dump trash in the ocean and
alternative methods of trash disposal need to be sought. Used water bottles, plastic bags, coffee cups,
and fish nets make up a huge portion of the Great Pacific garbage patch, this can be avoided by simply
passing legislation to make it illegal to dump trash in the ocean. Raising awareness starts with
informing your family and friends of what they can do to help reduce their plastic usage and explain to
them why it is harmful to the environment. Reduce your everyday plastic usage such as sandwich
bags, water bottles, and plastic utensils. These efforts may not sound like much to combat such a huge
global issue, but in this instance educating others and developing good habits is our most powerful
weapon if we to live in a cleaner, safer

Stereotypes In My Little Pony
A male age 15 and over who is a fanatic of the show My Little Pony is called a brony. Mainstream
society describes these people as homosexuals, perverts, and jobless men who live with their parents.
People aren t hesitant to quickly label bronies as the rejects of society. Most bronies, at first, don t feel
comfortable telling people about their My Little Pony addiction because they are afraid of society s
oppressive ways. According to some bronies in the video, they are picked on at school for liking a
little girl s show. They look up at mainstream society and realize that their acceptance is denied
because of society s judgmental ways. However, to get over the fact that many people disapprove of
their ways, they have a belief that love

Mark Dbq Propaganda
I. Introduction
A. This essay is going to explain in depth just how cartoons were used to influence public opinion,
through a political tool called propaganda in order for governments to be formed based on a certain
economic ideology e.g.? Nationalism, Capitalism or Fascism during the war period.
B. This essay is be based off an article called The man with the poison pen by cartoon historian Mark
Bryant. In this article, Mark Bryant and his work have been described as major influencer s within the
war during WWI, bringing about a major turning point in politics at the time and creating a
completely new war on its own using society as its main entry point not just in the war but also for
generations to come.

manipulation of truths for personal gain an edge over other territories.
A. According to John Horne s article The issue was picked up on each side by newspapers, cartoons
and official reports, until by spring 1915, atrocities had become a defining issue of the war (Today,
2002)
B. In 1914 accounts circulating in the German army suggested that enemy franes tireurs were
ambushing German soldiers, shooting them in the back or even poisoning, blinding and castrating
them. Such stories were quickly countered by Allied tales of brutal German soldiers, burning raping
pillaging and above all butchering Belgian and French civilians. But any explanation of atrocities in
1914 must account for the accusations levelled by the Germans against the Allies, as well as those
made by the Allies against the Germans

  • 2. Literary Analysis Of Marge Piercy s Barbie Doll And ... Allusion and Metaphor in the Poems of Marge Piercy Although the poems Barbie Doll and A Work of Artifice both deal with the subject of women, Marge Piercy uses subtly different approaches in tone of voice, metaphorical style, and use of irony. While Barbie Doll uses the form of allusion to compare a female child to a doll and demonstrates a strong tone of anger and irony, A Work of Artifice uses metaphor as a way to discuss the subject of women indirectly. Both poems succeed in making strong statements about the position of women in society and how they are constructed by society to serve others. In the first stanza of Barbie Doll, Piercy refers to the child in the third person. She writes about how the young girl is socialized into acting like a girl, just like all the rest. She writes, This girlchild was born as usual/ and presented dolls that did pee pee/ and miniature GE stoves and irons/ and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy. (Piercy 1, 4). In these first four lines, Piercy makes a strong statement that even as children, girls are given the accessories of grown women. Through play with these toys, they become accustomed to interacting with domestic appliances and make up products. They are given dolls that are meant to function as stand ins for their own future infants. By using the words wee and miniature and candy, Piercy is suggesting that these are conditioning tools that are packaged as appealing toys so that the girl children will be ... • 4. Employment Discrimination Against Individuals Based On... Introduction This new generation brings new challenges that in the past were taboo. In the sixties and seventies, a hippie was widely accepted, but now being transgender is not favorable. The hiring process has many different attributes that employers have to deal with. Some aspects include physical appearance, lifestyle, and language. For several decades, the law has forbidden discrimination against individuals based on age, race, national origin, or sex, and these factors should not be in job specifications or recruitment advertisements (Shaw, 2014, 284). Employment discrimination against physical appearance, lifestyle, and language is not only wrong but also unethical. I. Physical Appearance Psychologists have long known that people form impressions of others purely based on their appearance (Duarte, Siegel, Young, 2012, p.2455). Today s society puts great importance on people s physical appearance (Yang, Stoeber, 2012, p.69). Not everyone can be have a size 2 Victoria Secret model body or look like Duane Johnson (The Rock). Veterans have a harder time getting jobs now because of their physical characteristics after the Iraqi war. Perfect looks are highly valued because they symbolize success, happiness, and being loved and admired by others; consequently, many people strive to look perfect, and many others are concerned about their physical appearance worrying that they may not look perfect (Yang, Stoeber, 2012, p.69). • 6. Names In The Bible Since day one, names have been important and special. It is the first gift we receive from our parents the day we are born, and it is how we identify ourselves from that day forward. The first thing that is said when introducing oneself is your name. There s something about calling someone by name that indicates meaning and intentionality. Names are important to our parents, our friends, and everyone around us, but most importantly, they are special and significant to God. In the Bible, there is a pattern of God giving people new names when they realize their calling. For example, Abram was changed to Abraham and Saul was changed to Paul after his conversion on the road to Damascus. In Isaiah 43:1 it says, Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. The God of the universe knows and calls us by name. You can t get more loving and personal than that. In an article about the importance of God knowing each of our names, Beth Ariel states, He knows each of us personally and intimately, calling us by name. It is almost too much for our finite minds to grasp that the God who created the heavens and the earth knows each of us by name (Ariel 1). In the Bible, God not ... • 7. Athanasius s Doctrine Of Arius When it came time for Athanasius, the deacon, to counterargue Arius s doctrine, he was first met with discrimination and disrespect due to his position as a deacon. Nonetheless, he began by defending Christ s divinity. He stated in the council that Christ was not created by God by using the evidence from the Gospel of Saint John, In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) By this verse, Athanasius explained that the Word was Jesus Christ, he was already with the Father from the beginning of time, the only thing that makes him different was that he was born of the Virgin Saint Mary and have taken part of humanity. Further on, Athanasius quoted another verse from the Gospel of Saint John that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They voted on whether the council preferred Arius doctrine was correct or Athanasius s doctrine. The votes were gathered and it was clear that Athanasius s depiction of Christ s divinity and humanity was the correct doctrine. The council then had to ensure that there wouldn t be another heresy like Arius again in the Christian Church, so the Council of Nicaea created the Nicaean Creed which emphasizes Christ s divinity with the Father but with taking part of humanity. The Nicaean Creed was also made to strengthen the faith of the Christian Church and to always remind the that Jesus has a divinity. The Nicaean Creed can be found in many of the Orthodox Christian Churches which state, We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ... light of light, true God of God, begotten not created, with one essence with the Father, (Schaff, 126). With the Creed being created this eventually lead to the end of the Arius heresy that almost would have ended the Christian religion. The believers realizes that if per impossible the Church had not there and then set forth in plainest terms the Catholic Faith as expressed in the Nicene Creed, the Christian Faith would have perished miserably. What, though, were the critical issues in determining the customer s satisfaction that led to the loss of the customer? Was the problem simply a lack of satisfaction with the product? Using concepts from the chapter, describe how the customer s value equation was influenced by the experiences both before the call and during the call. Companies in all industries and of all sizes understand that customers are perhaps their most valuable assets. Improving the overall customer experience is vital for continued success and survival, and always has been. In the words of many industry professionals, losing a customer is the absolute worst thing that could happen to our company. This mantra ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to have a successful long term relationship the most important thing is to have mutual trust. Because without trust ( partners can trust and depend on each other, resolve problems as they arise and settle differences between them when it necessary) unhappy customers will not stay loyal to the company and will go out to our competitors. According to J. Tanner trust is a belief by one party that the other party will fulfill its obligations in a relationship (p.362). When we earned the trust of the other party, our relationship is strong and we do not need to constantly monitor each other s actions because both believe that other parties will act in a way that is best for both parties. But trust only is not enough, which is why it is a combination of five factors: dependability, competence, customer orientation, honesty and likability. Banks made available huge amounts of money available in form of loans; banks were responsible for creating large debts in form of loan interests. Subprime borrowers are those borrowers who have low credit ratings and poor creditworthiness. The subprime mortgage market meltdown began on 9 August 2007 and continued into 2008 (Cecchetti, 2008). It arose when banks created a lot of money in a short time and used the opportunity to raise house prices and speculations on financial markets. Initial subprime mortgages were affordable and many borrowers were attracted to them. However, they were adjustable after a given duration. It is this adjustment that instigated many defaults in payments, mostly beginning in 2007 when higher payments were demanded. By 2009, banks were going bankrupt due to the high number of defaulted mortgage payments. Also, lenders came up with creative mortgage packages upon speculations of growing house prices. With mortgage backed securities (MBS), the process of securitization occurs whereby home mortgages are grouped into categorized pools by the issuing banks. They are then sold as a single security where the risks are spread out. These pooled assets backed securities were attractive to both lender and borrower because lender sold the loan and borrower accessed credit easily. Such collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) were sold to other market investors to reduce the risk of default. According to Mike Rose, a good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in it (33). The truth to this is that education affects us in every aspect of our lives. Rose emphasizes the value in the experience of education beyond the value of education for the purpose of custom or intelligence; he explores the purpose of going to school in terms of how he defines himself and his personal growth in the stages of his academic career. In Rose s exploration of the purpose of school, he also reflects on his personal experiences and how those experiences gave him tools that are applicable to his daily life. Mike Rose s Why School?: Reclaiming Education for All of Us persuades his audience of the importance of education beyond the classroom, emphasizing how those experiences become crucial to one s personal growth and potential. Rose elaborates on the significance of education by reflecting on his own perspective on and how that shaped his identity. His childhood gave him the opportunity to experience the contrast between a positive learning environment and a negative one. This also shaped him to have an evident positive outlook on education. He expresses, I ve experienced classrooms as both places of flat disconnection and growth and inspiration, and this mix has proved invaluable as I myself have gone on to teach (Rose 35). • 15. Colonial Rule Of Independence And Independence At independence, all states have the option to retain or abolish appeal to the JCPC. Assuming that a colony s goal at independence is to free itself from the colonial power s control, why would a state decide to retain a colonial institution that is an important to the POGG of an independent state? I posit that states desire a final appellate court that is likely to uphold and legitimize the policies of the nation s governing elite. The length and type of colonial rule influence the national governing elite s decision about the final appellate court at independence. Some states that retain the right of appeal to an extraterritorial court at independence later abolish the right, while others continue to allow appeals to this extraterritorial court. This mutability raises two additional questions. First, why do we see variations in the length of time some states retained those ties after independence? Second, why do some states ultimately decide to abolish appeals to the JCPC and establish a domestic ultimate appeals court? I posit that states that retain appeals to the JCPC at independence may later decide to abolish appeals if they perceive a divergence between the state s policies and the JCPC that reduces the likelihood that the JCPC will uphold and legitimize the state s policies. A disconnect between the decisions of the JCPC and the state s policies may emerge over time, leading the governing national coalition to take steps to abolish that right of appeal. Since ... Meyer (2010) continues that in 2007, 25 million families received EITC payments totaling $49.7 billion. Meyer (2010) avers that as a result, the EITC lifted at least 4.0 million individuals above the poverty line. Meyer (2010) further continues to explain that in addition to directly raising incomes, the EITC has sharply changed work incentives, currently increasing the after‐ tax wage by up to 45% for those with low earnings. The EITC overall is part of the tax system and does not necessitate individuals to have a tax liability that the credit offsets. Meyer (2010) maintains that a person without a net tax liability receives it as a payment that, by 2009, could be as large as $5,657. The objective of the EITC has been to move earnings while stimulating employment. This characteristic paved the way for political support for its early acceptance and for its following development. The agenda has undertaken more distinction in recent years as policy makers have sought to decrease the reliance that they assert has been promoted by welfare programs. • 24. The Black Walnut Tree By Mary Oliver The Past is Rooted Change is inevitable; as the years go on, everything is always either improving or weakening, but still changing. Nothing can prevent change, but there are still those who ignore it and refuse it. Individuals refused to accept their past because they do not want to change, they want to focus on the present. In Mary Oliver s free verse poem, The Black Walnut Tree, the daughter discusses the argument with her mother regarding the selling of their Black Walnut Tree, commenting on it s personal history with her ancestors. In the poem, Oliver contrasts the daughter s disagreeing perception of the mother s consumeristic urges to sell their tree with her need to preserve it and its memories through the use of dark, gloomy word choice and varying concepts of time, illustrating the everlasting effect and importance of one s past and ancestry on the present. The shift from a literal to figurative tone contrasts the mother s views with those of the daughter s, commenting on the difficulty of preserving history. Oliver introduces the mother and daughters argument in the introduction, My mother and I debate:, including a semicolon at the end of the first stanza. The semicolon is used as a layout for the rest of the poem, to show the words following are in fact the debate between the speaker, the daughter, and her mother. The Importance Of Motivation In Education Education is the key to eliminate gender discrimination, to decrease poverty, to foster social peace in our communities and to create a sustainable development. But, how can we encourage our children to study effectively? In other words, how can we prepare them for success? Motivation is the secret behind student success. Motivation helps to explain why some children get impressive education results despite poverty, while others get ordinary results despite highly sophisticated teaching methods. Which factors affecting students motivation? And how it works in the lives of girls and boys? Despite the fact that girls outperform their male peers, and hyper control of girls acts as a kind of motivator which makes them study harder than boys, boys are not defective. Motivation is the main factor which is shaped by parents and teachers. In many Middle Eastern public schools; elements have cooperated together to create an educational system which is not appropriate for anyone but particularly not for boys. Boys feel like their teachers do not care about them, and they had experienced a worse relationship with their teachers. Also, they reported physical punishment which had been occurred at school. Moreover, boys have their own society which aims to enforce their masculinity away from classrooms and academic goals that is why they lose their motivation to study hard. This is the topic that Amanda Ripley (2017) focuses on in her article Boys are not defective . In her article Ripley (2017) discusses that male teachers practices have a negative effect on boys motivation. They do not care about boys well performance, tend to punish them physically and shout at them. In addition, the notions of masculinity among boys make them feel like schools will not help them to reach manhood. My firm conviction is those worse relationships between boys and teachers, insulting and corporal punishment and the internal desire of students to achieve their manhood outside classrooms; this would affect badly on their motivation, and would decrease their academic performance. I am totally agree with the author since teachers are one of the major factors which stands behind boys performance, and teachers mistreatment towards boys ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Slowly, structured elements we refer to as nature evolved into significant components of the earth. Ironically, humans with their notably shorter period on earth have come to dominate and manipulate the landscape to the point of environmental degradation. Aldo Leopold s Land Ethic addresses this issue by challenging the way humans look at nature and its resources. He insists on the practice of moral responsibility to land by enlarging the boundaries of our community alongside elements like animals, plants, and ecosystems (Leopold, Land Ethic ) Leopold appeals to emotion by showcasing the real value that lies within nature and its beauty rather than the economic value that creates only selfishness in individuals. Virginia Woolf is also able to emotionally engage readers in her essay Death of a Moth by depicting the real struggle between life and death with a Moth s struggle for survival that ultimately ends with death. With her implementation of rhetorical devices, she s able to provoke a sense of pity and emotional connection towards the animal. • 35. Keystone Pipeline Pros And Cons From the pipelines that I looked at the most economically and politically viable would be the keystone pipeline. This is because the United States of America and Canada are very close to each other, which creates less distance for the pipe to travel through, nor does it need to be built to withstand an underwater tunnel, such as the Poseidon Pipeline and the Nabucco pipeline. This means that the pipeline costs less to build, as less piping must be built, and it does not need any special materials: With a decrease in the cost, it means that there is more profit in the energy pathways. • 37. Human Cells And The Human Body Kidneys are one of the most essential organs in a human body which are crucial for blood filtration, toxins, and waste removal and maintaining and regulating the body s pH. The researchers created kidney structures from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS) called organoids which have the function and structural organization of a human fetal kidney in the first trimester. This study used the results of a previous study where human embryonic stem cells were differentiated towards a renal lineage. As a result, the progenitors for both collecting ducts and nephrons were generated from iPS. In that study, the researchers found out that although both nephrons and collecting ducts originate from the intermediate mesoderm layer, they develop at a different specific time and area from the mesoderm layer. The intermediate mesoderm layer is a germ layer arising from the mesoderm, and it is important in the development of kidneys, reproductive system, and lower urinary tract of the embryo. Thus, the scientists exploited this temporospatial origin difference, and they identified the regulating mechanism behind what caused the induction of collecting duct versus other kidney progenitors like the nephrons for instance. As a result of this finding, kidney organoids were formed which were segmented into distal and proximal tubules, loops of Henle, glomeruli, and podocytes which establish a vascularization network. This study is important in near future because it can be used as a model for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Subprime Mortgage Crisis The Subprime Mortgage crisis ECO 2072 Principles of Macroeconomics In the beginning One of the first indications of the late 2000 financial crisis that led to downward spiral known as the Recession was the subprime mortgages; known as the mortgage mess . A few years earlier the substantial boom of the housing market led to the uprising of mortgage loans. Because interest rates were low, investors took advantage of the low rates to buy homes that they could in return flip (reselling) and homeowners bought homes that they typically wouldn t have been able to afford. High interest rates usually keep people from borrowing money because it limits the amount available to use for an investment. But the creation of the subprime mortgage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Risky Business Around 2006 the price of houses began to fall substantially fast. The oversupply of houses and lack of buyers pushed the house prices down until they really plunged in the late 2006 and early 2007 (The Subprime Mortgage Crisis Explained). These actions threw investors into a big dilemma. In the beginning they believed buying the mortgages would bring them a profit, but quickly realized that the mortgages would cost them more financial damage than reselling the homes. Nationwide, home vales have declined about 16% since the summer of 2006 and experts project that the drop will continue until homes have lost about 25% of their value (Biroonak, 2008). In other words mortgage homes are underwater , that is, the mortgage owed equals or exceeds the value of the house (Biroonak, 2008). Investors and homeowners started to go more in debt trying to pay off their original debts. With all of the incentives and mortgage products given so easily to people that couldn t afford the high prices (including interest rates), many people defaulted on their first mortgages because they were no longer were able to receive the profit from the homes they first intended to flip. During the first quarter of 2008, nearly 9% of all mortgage holders were delinquent or in foreclosure, the highest rate since recordkeeping began in 1979. Foreclosure filings more than ... • 42. Paul after the Damascus Road Essay The Apostle Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, is a central figure within both Christian tradition and New Testament thought and writing. With such a crucial place, it is vital that we come to understand more of his life and thinking, as well as the world in which he and, more specifically, his theology were shaped. With this in mind, this essay will seek to explore Paul s conversion and call experience as understood from Acts, and his personal references to it, drawing from them the ways in which this time was significant for Paul s theological thinking, as expressed in his letters and work. To achieve this we will begin by addressing the call and/or conversion debate, arguing that the term conversion and call best encapsulates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This argument does not, however, decisively remove the possible use of conversion for Paul, as Stendahl s view that conversion must mean abandonment of a previous religious system is certainly not a necessary condition. In addition to this, to remove the language of conversion from Paul s experience is to remove its decisiveness; its absolute alteration of Paul s thinking and being that can be seen in Gal 1:12 14. In these passages we see Paul speak of the risen Christ, who gave him his teaching and drew him away from his life in the Law, and as a Pharisee, in which he excelled (Gal 1:14) and which had led him to persecute the Church (Gal 1:13). When this Christocentric language is placed against his former understanding, which had caused him to persecute the Church, one cannot simply speak of a call , but rather must move to language of radical turning, of conversion . As this shows, while Stendahl s argument that Paul should not be considered a convert is not strong enough to warrant abandonment of the term, his exposition of Paul as called should not be ignored, as, from a missional point of view, he certainly was. This leads us to the conception of Paul s experience as encapsulating both call and a conversion dynamic, more fully expressing the reports he and others gave of this time. • 43. Robots Advantages And Disadvantages In more details I would say that they need some capabilities such as inference, learning, ... which can involve thinks that popular opinion will associate to think and feel like we do but that does not mean they are the same. A robot is not a human just like a plane is not a bird or a car is not a horse. They may accomplish equivalent tasks but neither are doing it the same way as their counterpart. First for the way a robot is currently used a self driving car, a drone surveying an area (either for filming or military purpose), an industrial robot, a planetary rover they are just complex tools meant to do the hard, dirty or boring things we do not want to or can t do on our own. Having them the ability to infer is highly beneficial as it means that the user can ask them what to do for example go to the closest grocery store instead of how to do it for example drive straight for 200 yards, turn left, then drive straight for 2 miles, ... . having also this inference allow them to be able to recover for unexpected situation (road is blocked due to an accident) and re plan the best course of action accordingly. And this example just talk about path planning, this can go further for more high level tasks which involves more than simple motion (for example a home service robot that does simple chore at home such as setting your dinner table, ...). • 44. Women s Rites Of Passage Introduction Every culture in the world has rites of passage. Whether it be death and dying, birth or a transition from puberty to adulthood, every culture has certain rituals they use to christen these changes in social status within a society. A rite of passage is symbolic in how important a change is in the lives of the people who experience them. Status changes such as these are very important in the eyes of their culture and the ceremonies they produce help them retain stability while their society adjust to the changes that are occurring to the individuals. An interesting rite of passage that can be found in many cultures around the world is a young girls transition into womanhood. Two of the cultures that one examined this rite in were the Oglala Sioux of South Dakota, and the Tukuna of the Amazon. With the genocide of the Native Americans, many of the rituals and ceremonies they use have not been seen by outsiders. Information on any ceremony can be hard to find. Fortunately, the Oglala Sioux Wichasa Wakhan, holy man, Black Elk recorded these ceremonies before his death. In the book The Sacred Pipe, Black Elk discusses the seven sacred rites of the Oglala Sioux, one of which is Ishna Ta Awi Cha Lowan, preparing a young girl for womanhood. (Black Elk, 1989).
