Sarbanes Oxley Act Pros And Cons
At first, the Sarbanes Oxley Act is the U.S. law about to protect investors from the possibility of
deceptive accounting activity by a corporation and improving fraudulent a financial report. The act
commands strict reforms to improve financial disclosures from corporations and prevent accounting
fraud. The act requires to companies because it increases the credibility of the companies financial
statements from investors. The act defined to restore investor s confidence in the financial market and

At first, it can increase the reliability of the financial statements because outside of the company
auditors prove the financial reports are correct, so investors are persuaded the financial information by
the reports. Reliability of the financial statements is affected by investment and the company s profit.
Moreover, a company pays more attention to make financial statements and take more time to editing
the financial information to making it correctly because the financial statements must be true for
investors. Furthermore, the financial reports have the minimizing the errors because the company
spends much time to editing and check it many times to find the mistakes and fix it to make a
complete financial report. On the other hand, the Sarbanes Oxley Act has weak point that is companies
must spend much money on the act such as paying for auditors and internal control software. Thus,
many business people argue about the act is a success or a failure because it has some advantage and
disadvantage like these points, but the act is valuable because it has more strong points than

Dentofacial Orthopedic Therapy
Lexington, KY Braces for Kids and Teens
Beautiful straight smiles can help build confidence and better health. As a family practice, we love
helping kids achieve the beautiful confident smiles they deserve to have. By survey, parents say that
their kids are happier about themselves and smile more often once their teeth are straight. Having
straight teeth also helps to avoid future complications with gum disease.
Dr. Patricia Takacs is very experienced in straightening children s teeth and has considerable advanced
training in the technology and utilization of braces. She is equipped to assess exactly what needs to be
done to give your child a straight smile and a healthy bite.
Your first step is an evaluation of your child s teeth, jaw, and bite. Dr. Takacs will thoroughly review
treatment options with you and answer any questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process is started when the patient is still a child, often before any other orthodontic treatment
has begun. However, it can still be performed during later stages of treatment.
Dentofacial orthopedic therapy usually focuses on correcting potential bite and spacial problems by
guiding the growth and development of the jaw. We do this by using orthodontic appliances such as
mouthguards, space maintainers, retainers, expanders, and other devices.
This process is important because it helps to ensure the success of later orthodontic treatment. In some
cases, it can even prevent the need for braces down the road! For instance, if a child s spacing issues
can be resolved while their jaw is still developing and their permanent teeth are still coming in, it may
prevent teeth from becoming crowded and needing braces to straighten them. Even if it doesn t
prevent crowding completely, it will certainly help the later orthodontic treatment to work faster and
more efficiently.

Nutrition For Health And Development
Parents become more stressed
Circle of anxiety compounding feeding difficulties. (Hall and Elliman 2003)
It is well recognized that household food insecurity is one of the three underlying causes of
malnutrition. At the international conference of nutrition (ICN) held in Rome in 1992, food security
was defined in its most basic form as physical, social and economic access by all people at all times to
sufficient, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preference for an active
and healthy life. Thus, food insecurity exists when people lack access to sufficient amount of safe and
nutritious food, therefore not consuming the food required for normal growth and development, for an
active and healthy life. This may be due to the unavailability of food insufficient purchasing power,
inappropriate distribution, or inadequate utilization at household level. Food insecurity, poor
conditions of health and sanitation and inappropriate social and care environment are the major causes
of poor nutritional status. (WHO 1995) department of Nutrition for health and Development (NHD).
2.2.5 HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT.
Growth may be defined as an increase in body size. Biologic growth of an organism occurs through
cell multiplication and cell enlargement.
Development is the associated process by which growing tissues and organs take on a more complex
function. Through these changes a small dependent new born is transformed into a fully functioning

Renal Cell Carcinoma Of The Kidney Essay
The most common genitourinary cancers are, renal cell carcinoma of the kidney, transitional cell
carcinoma of the bladder, and adenocarcinoma of the prostat.
1 Renal cell carcinoma, the most common cancer of the kidney, accounts for approximately 90% of all
renal malignancies. About 65,000 cases of renal cell carcinoma are diagnosed each year in the U.S.
Despite advances in diagnosis, especially improved imaging techniques and the incidental diagnosis of
many tumors with imaging tests for unrelated complaints, about 20 30% of all patients are diagnosed
with metastatic disease. In addition, another 20% of patients undergoing nephrectomy will have a
relapse and develop metastatic RCC during follow up.
For patients with (m RCC), the prognosis is extremely poor, which makes the occurrence of (m RCC)
a serious problem for oncologic health care around the world.
The American Cancer Society s most recent estimates for kidney cancer in the United
States are for 2016:
About 62,700 new cases (39,650 in men and 23,050 in women) will occur.
About 14,240 people (9,240 men and 5,000 women) will die from this disease.
These numbers include all types of kidney and renal pelvis cancers.
Kidney cancer is among the 10 most common cancers in both men and women. Overall, the lifetime
risk for developing kidney cancer is about 1 in 63 (1.6%). This risk is higher in men than in women.
For reasons that are not totally clear, the rate of new kidney cancers has been rising since

Teens And Mtv s Unrealistic Beliefs On Teen Pregnancy
Research article authors Nicole Martins and Robin E. Jensen, intended to study the relationship
between MTV s series Teen Mom reality show and teenagers unrealistic beliefs about what is like to
be a teen mom. The seven motivations for asking why are used to convince the audience that it is
worthy of research by exploring the relationship with the intentions to discredit the previous findings
that state, Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant is one of the best public service campaign to prevent teen
pregnancy. This topic presents a number of complications in the lives of both induvial and societal as a
whole; providing evidence to answer the readers question on why this topic is of importance and
worthy of research. Yearly, $7 billion are taxed to all U.S citizens for welfare and healthcare relating
to teen pregnancy, driving the United States to the top as the highest rated country with teen
pregnancy. Consequently, almost half of teen mothers are unable to receive a high school diploma;
leading to lower occupation income for both fathers and mothers. I myself have personally witnessed
the toll it takes on one s life from three women who became mothers at a young age. Many teens are
unaware of the high risks and consequences of becoming pregnant or are in denial of the possibility.
Being able to be a part of their journey has increased my belief of the importance on this topic and
related research.
When comparing this article to a good literature review, it successfully provides an adequate overview
of previous research done and uses it to enhance the project at hand. When evaluating the quality and
relevance of this article, Martins and Jensen do an admirable job communicating the purpose of
research to the reader and organizing its literature review. The data from other studies is in
chronological order and are structured from broader studies to more specific ones which is seen when
the sources are cited. An analysis was provided after presenting the findings from previous studies and
the authors were able to communicate how those studies influenced their own research. As a whole,
the literature review was well organized by key ideas and topics that logically lead to the research

Why Build The Panama Canal
Why Build a Canal had an interesting take on the importance of building the Panama Canal. Many
believed the military had a great deal of importance using the ports. President Theodore Roosevelt
believed that an U.S needed a controlled canal that could offer a great deal of domination as far as
connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean for our military. Frenchman Ferdinand de Lesseps, who was
behind the Suez Canal, became an International Hero by marshaling the political and technical forces.
As shown in the photograph, Napoleon Garella was appointed by the French Government to survey
possible canal routes on the Isthmus of Panama. Surprisingly his was terribly wrong on some non

Garella thought that yellow fever didn t exist. He was terribly wrong and missed a very important and
critical health hazard that led to thousands of worker s death. Many people thought that the yellow
fever was caused by bad air, but it had been proven that the disease was transmitted by mosquitoes. It
was very tragic that it led to a lot of workers to death because it wasn t properly detected during the
survey. It was a good that William Gorgas used the research of physicians Ronald Ross, Carlos Juan
Finlay, and Walter Reed along with his own experience to get rid of the yellow fever within 18 months
or it could have led to more deaths. House mosquito was the carrier of the yellow fever, reading the
article is was bred in swamps, on the sides of river, and in puddles. As a worker it was very hard to
determine where the mosquitoes were coming from. It was surprising not to see how the workers were
being protected from the fever and mosquitoes, some would get immune and would live a long time,
but what about new workers that would come in and help build canal, how were they protected. As
shown in the picture crude oil was brought in to spray the areas where mosquitoes were breeding to
disrupt their life cycle. The spread of the yellow fever was eventually limited by using screens to bar

Difference Between Living And Nonliving Things
Students will be able to describe the differences between living and nonliving things.
1 LS1 1. Use evidence to explain that (a) different animals use their body parts and senses in different
ways to see, hear, grasp objects, protect themselves, move from place to place, and seek, find, and take
in food, water, and air, and (b) plants have roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits that are used to take
in water, air, and other nutrients, and produce food for the plant.
This will be the first section of the unit. It is important for students to be able to describe the
differences between living and nonliving things because these are important aspects of our
environment in the world. Students will be able to distinguish what makes something living and what
makes something nonliving. Students will be able to define the term organism and how this is another
term that shares the same meaning as living thing. Students will also be able to describe the basic
needs of living things and pose questions to themselves, in order to determine if an object is living or
nonliving. Students will recognize the difference between living and nonliving things and accurately
identify living and nonliving while exploring their surrounding environment. Students will form
predictions and observations while recording and collecting data and evidence throughout this portion
of the unit, as students will learn these are the everyday tasks of real scientists. Students will learn that

The Jewish Ghettos Of The Holocaust
Have you ever been in a room so crowded you thought you might implode? Or been so sick you
questioned if you were still alive? How about so hungry you felt as though you would shrivel up and
simply cease to exist? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you may almost be able to
imagine what life was like in the Jewish ghettos. There were ghettos before the Holocaust, the first
being in Venice in the 16th century, there are ghettos today, and there will be ghettos in the future, but
the Jewish ghettos of the Holocaust are by far the most prominent.
According to Merriam Webster a ghetto is, a part of a city in which members of a particular group or
race live usually in poor conditions (ghetto). This paper will focus, however, on what daily life was
like in the ghettos, what Jews did or didn t do to prevent their fate, and how Holocaust survivors are
doing now. I chose this topic because when Elie and his family were living in the ghetto in the
beginning of Night, it seemed as though they had plenty of opportunities to escape that they didn t
take. It also seemed much closer to pleasant than I imagined, and I was curious to see if that was
completely true.
When I started this project I was hoping to find personal survivor stories about what the conditions of
the ghettos, how people transitioned into life in them, and what they did to try and keep life as normal
as it could be. I was expecting a bounty of examples of indifference because in Night the Jews

Castiglione Vs Machiavelli Essay
In between the 14th and 17th century, a time period known as the Renaissance occurred, in which
modern literature, art, and music were revived and thrived throughout a large portion of Europe that
founded several differentiating ideas and views throughout its time. From the mid 1400s to the mid
1500s several authors arose with varying views on how the government should act; however, views
such as these were strictly prohibited by both members of the Catholic church and Protestant
reformers, and were often viewed as heretical, which led to threats and attacks from these people as a
result. The recorded writings of three Renaissance authors, Niccolò Machiavelli, Desiderius Erasmus,
and Baldassare Castiglione, hold both similar and differing ideas, most notably on the politics and
government in their time.

Erasmus was one of the first Christian Humanists and was a part of the Northern Renaissance, and
therefor outputted both his humanistic and Christian views into the creation of The Education of a

believed that war was foolish as he stated in The Praise of Folly, and should be avoided at all costs,
and perhaps this was because the majority of his life was spent surrounded by war in the early 16th
century, and was said to have seen a couple hundred war soldiers tortured at the hand of a local
bishop. On the contrary, Machiavelli thought war to assert power and dominance, and that by looting a
city after raiding it he or the prince could gain his soldiers trust,

The Aboriginal People Of Canada
Canadian Native Aboriginals Introduction The Canadian native aboriginals are the original indigenous
settlers of North Canada in Canada. They are made up of the Inuit, Metis and the First nation. Through
archeological evidence old crow flats seem to the earliest known settlement sites for the aboriginals.
Other archeological evidence reveals the following characteristics of the Aboriginal culture:
ceremonial architecture, permanent settlement, agriculture and complex social hierarchy. A number of
treaties and laws have been enacted amongst the First nation and European immigrants throughout
Canada. For instance the Aboriginal self government right was a step to assimilate them in Canadian

It is believed that Canada was in violation of the human rights when they forced the aboriginals to get
assimilated into a Eurocentric society. There were instances of children being forced from homes into
Christian schools. This was violation of human rights ( Asch 98). Different laws like the Indian Act
and other treaties played an outstanding role in shaping Aboriginal relationship in Canada. The Indian
Act led to a huge conflict of interest following its effect on the Indians living in Canada during its
implementation. The Indian Act was a mechanism that strengthened the eviction of Indians ad also a
means of displacing Indians from their tribal lands. On the onset of the 19th Century, land hungry
Canadian settlers clustered in the coastal south of Canada and slowly moved into the neighboring
states. Since most of the tribes occupying that area were the Indians, the Canadian settlers petitioned
the Canadian government to remove them as they perceived them as an obstacle to expansion towards
the west. The rationale for the Indian Act was that the southeast Indian tribes had no attachment to any
particular land. However, this rationale ignored the fact the Indian tribes had vast crops of corn and
lived in settlements. Those who benefited from the Indian Act are the Canadian settlers who had
immense hunger for Indian land. The Canadian Settler lured the Indian tribes into signing the treaty by
guaranteeing them peace and integrity

Critical Instructional Components For Helping Students Learn
Introduction One of the identified critical instructional components for helping students learn to read
is vocabulary. Since the National Reading Panel (2000) and the National Early Literacy Panel (2009)
reported that strong early oral vocabulary knowledge is a predictor for later successful reading
outcomes, an increased research and teaching focus in this area has arisen.
The achievement gap that is a central concern in education and society today is associated to a word
gap that begins early in life. Hart and Risley (1995) identified in their seminal study that by the age of
four, children from low income families hear 30 million less words than their peers from professional

Why I Am Grateful For Rowing
Why I am Grateful for Rowing
When I first joined the Texas Rowing Center, I had no idea that six months later my life would revolve

the decision has paid off in innumerable ways, including the fact that rowing practice is now the
highlight of every day.
Rowing has helped me make new friends. Before I joined rowing, almost all of my friends were from

friends. One example of a wonderful friend I have made on crew is my friend Hannah. We are the

Abbey, our coach, really respects me as a leader in the group. I am so thankful for the chance to lead
my peers somewhere other than at school. Being in a different environment leading different people

Rowing forces me to challenge myself and push my boundaries. I am especially grateful for Abbey

hurt more than I thought I could take. Through all that, I am constantly inspired to push harder every

The Social Responsibility Of Business
In his paper titled The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase Its Profits , Milton Friedman
addresses the key issue of weighing social responsibility against profit maximization for shareholders.
This conflict is the basis for Friedman s whole paper, as he explores the two sides of the situation. In
order to set up his argument, Friedman lays down a framework by explicitly stating a certain premise.
This is that businessman view social responsibility and profit as not being mutually exclusive. In other
words, the majority of businessman believe that they can operate a socially responsible operation,
while still optimizing profits in the long run. Friedman argues in favor of this viewpoint by making a
claim and providing a solid line of reasoning to support his claim. Friedman s main claim in this paper
is that corporate executives must conduct business with the aim to satisfy the desires and wishes of
shareholders. He says that often the principal desire of shareholders is to maximize profits for the
company, while still conforming to the rules of society. These rules can be purely legal, but can also
be ethical and moral rules that are imposed by society. Friedman argues that any social responsibilities
that go beyond the scope of maximizing profits is pure and unadulterated socialism (239). To reinforce
his main claim, Friedman uses a logical flow of reasons that is predicated upon the role of executives
and shareholders. To emphasize his main claim that

The Experience Of Enslavement To Africans And Europeans
Experience of Enslavement to Africans and Europeans
Enslavement was a one of the horrors that the Africans endured to help them survive in a foreign area.
The Africans did not have a choice becoming a slave thus acting like a piece of property for the people
that would ensure that they would incriminate the people. Enslavement was a challenge to the black
people that made it difficult for them to lead their normal lives because they were rooted from their
families and dumped in a new country where they had to oblige to the commands of their owner.
According to Equiano, the Africans had to cross the Atlantic Ocean under the boats where they had
confinements like animals unfit for human survival (1789) . Numerous of them died on the way from
diseases, hunger among other reasons and they would dump them into the sea leaving them there as
food for the fishes which is inhumane. Slavery was difficult because it was not a voluntary act thus
denying people the choice to make their independent decisions.
Enslavement led to separation of the Africans from their families back at home and even the families
that they started while in the United States. Some of the slaves had their families in the United States
and they did not preside over their care because their owners could take their sons to work as butlers
while the girls in the kitchen or act as concubines to the owners. In some cases, some of the children
would be sold to other parts at a good price without consideration their

Elizabeth is intelligent, strong willed, non submissive and witty. Austen believes that woman are as
intelligent and capable as men and considers their lower status in society of being unjust. During the
1800s, many women married solely for the sake of financial security. In Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth
is able to be happy by refusing to marry for financial purposes and only marrying a man whom she
truly loves and esteems. Elizabeth s ending reveals Austen s beliefs that woman has the right to remain
independent until she meets the right man. An example of Austen s view on feminism is, It is a truth
universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a
wife . In this quote from page 1, Jane Austen is saying isn t really that all wealthy bachelor s need a
wife, but that women always assume a wealthy, single man to need a wife. Elizabeth, as well as her
sisters, are representatives of the dependent young women who MUST marry well in order to remain
respectable or even to progress upwards on the social ladder. The quote, therefore, is also a
confirmation of Austen s belief that women in her society were very much dependent on marriage and
this has progressed to such an extent that women have thus ended up looking upon all wealthy
bachelors as an advantage. Hence, the assumption that all wealthy bachelors MUST be wanting to get
married actually disguises the truth, that it is, in fact, the women who are desperate for marriage.

the critique and views of the discourse of underachievement among researchers in their works. It is

underachievement widely used but highly problematic, masking the ideological assumptions which

Evaluation Of The Montford Unit Offers Services
Following this even further, the Montford unit offers services to admitted patients regardless if they
are offenders or general medical issues for individuals. The services that are provided is 550
psychiatric beds, a 48 bed general medical and surgical unit, gardens for the Lubbock food bank,
housing stables, and roads located on 120 acres of land (Hills, Siegfried, and Ickowitz, 2004, p. 86).
All of these services help offenders because everything is done in house regardless of the issue. They
have food, roof of over their head; they can provide assistance to others by helping box up food items
for the homeless or low income families. They could also do nontraditional activities such as art
therapy, music therapy, occupational therapy, and recreational therapy (Hills, Siegfried, and Ickowitz,
2004, p. 86). The activities will keep their mind active and thinking constantly. It could even lead to a
hobby that can turn into a business. The most important elements to consider for an individual with a
mental illness after being released from a mental health care facility is how they reintegrate with their
family and receive social support. For example, if the individual is going to live with their family the
best thing to do is to assess the families home and living situation, so that the environment is not
threatening to them. It will undermine the treatment process and ruin any positive outcomes the
individual has done up to this point. In order to supplement the

Edgar Allan Poe Use Imagery To Build A Fire
But from a certain nameless awe with which the mad assumption of the mummer had inspired the
whole party, there were found non who put forth a hand to seize him; so that unimpeded he passed
within a yard of the Prince s person; (Poe, 76) a stench strong with rotting filled the chambers, to
every corner so that none of the revellers were spared. The figure continued his slow pace through the
blue chamber to the purple, from the purple to the next and so forth with the rest. The silence was
deafening only contradicted by the drum of heart beat. The lights through the window panes seemed to
grow brighter with every daunting step, making the color in each apartment blaze strongly; especially
the scarlet red. Engulfed with a rage the prince engaged after it; but the he was too late once in the
black room the figure vanished, gone with him the stench and agonizing terror. Once again a light

The once sealed iron gates reopened, the assembly moved forth with their prince at the lead,
excitement brewed throughout; but sudden like the striking of the ebony clock, fear struck for what
they believed they had out done, for what they believed they had escaped, waited behind them inside
the castle wrought iron gates. For no one could escape the scarlet blood and agonizing pain that waits.
The figure stood and slowly like before he advanced; with every stroke of the clock, which you could
hear from there, he took one step. Pale became the faces, fast became their heartbeats, and the whole
of them quaked in fear, even the eccentric prince dared not move; for blood, scarlet blood, spread
everywhere. And one by one they dropped each dying in the despairing posture they fell. And in the
darkness and decay and the red death held illimitable dominion over all. (Poe,

Racism And Sexism In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
Literature is a global art that throughout many languages, cultures, and as well as the course of time, is
open to a magnitude of perspectives and opinions, ranging from literary criticisms written by literary
scholars to school students undertaking VCE. From the time Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad was
published in 1899 the novel has been held under considerable scrutiny as many interpretations have
been developed over the novels true intent as well as the overall message portrayed within. Chinua
Achebe s An Image of Africa is a well known criticism on Heart of Darkness that focuses on a Post
Colonial perspective to describe the nature of the novel. Jeremy Hawthorn s The Women of Heart of
Darkness is another well known criticism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Achebe also criticises Conrad s lack of language for his African characters as dehumanising in its
attempt to strip the characters of respectable voices by instead describing their language as animalistic
grunts and cries . The few instances within the novel where an African character speaks English are
described by Achebe as deliberate in their insinuation that the African people are unintelligent and
illiterate. Achebe again contrasts Conrad s use of Africa as a place of dehumanisation as alienating the
African people rather than inspiring inhumanity in the white colonialists that have travelled there.
While many readers would agree with the failed attempt at the exploration of racism, one must
contend that writing about something does not necessarily remove it from criticism and as such when
reading Heart of Darkness one can gather the inklings of prejudice weaved within the text by an
author who is known for racist values. While the text is deserving of appreciation, as for some it is
deemed a literary masterpiece, one cannot ignore the racist undertones of the novel as it is clear that
Conrad has prejudices towards Africa and her people and that these feelings were intertwined into the
plot. Conrad s main characters all have some racist values ranging from blissful ignorance to
downright hatred to the African people and in

The Golden Age of Sail in Saint John
Even as the Golden Age of Sail was coming to a close, Saint John had remained at the top the fourth
largest shipbuilding center in the world and one of the greatest in North America. Their affluence took
a turn during 1877, when the Great Fire of Saint John devastated the city. It shattered not only the
lives of city shipbuilders and merchants, but crippled local citizens as well. Summers in Saint John
were typically dry and muggy, though on June 20, 1877 there was an eerie uncharacteristic breeze.
Although the cause of the original spark remains unknown, it is believed to have started from
McLaughlan Son s boiler shop or from a nearby sawmill. As wood is a naturally rapid burning agent,
it led to the quick demise of many wood built city structures. The structures in the Market Square area
burnt rapidly destroying over 80 hectares (200 hundred acres) and 1612 structures including eight
churches, six banks, fourteen hotels, eleven schooners and four woodboats in just over a nine hour
period. It was a period of despair, as men and women were completely drained after dragging bedding,
pieces of furniture and other articles through the streets, a vain task in many cases, as the new places
of refuge sought out often proved as unsafe as those that were deserted. Several business owners and
residents lost everything they had ¬ leaving many Saint John natives with nowhere to go. Support
quickly began to pour in from all around the world, with donations reaching in

Informative Essay On Canoe Water
People want common sense paddling courses that allow them to enjoy the river with competent skills.
Canoe certification courses are good, but sometimes the technicality is more then what the average
person wants. On river instruction with certified canoe instructors teaches safe ways to enter/exit
canoes, how to steer a canoe without switching sides, handy canoe stroke techniques and canoe
rescues. There is also a review of basic equipment needed, what to look for in canoe purchase and
what to pack as a simple safety precaution. These four hour course are filled with practical hands on
experience as a canoe trip is done on the river.
Many people that paddle lakes think they are prepared to canoe a river. Lakes do not have speed and
they do not have the force of water moving around and over obstacles at sudden depth changes. This
unfamiliarity is a potential danger to any lake canoeist. River novices would be wise to take a canoe
lesson with an instructor.
Proper canoe lessons on a river teach how to read water, a technique not required on lakes. A canoeist
that knows what they are looking at makes the best decisions of where to go. Just understanding what

Overseas With The Norwalk Virus
Kristine Bryson
Overseas with the Norwalk Virus The Norwalk virus is part of a group called the Noroviruses and
caliciruses. It is known to cause gastroenteritis, infection within food, food poisoning, and even the
short lived nonbacterial gastroenteritis. It can spread from contaminated water and infected foods. It
can even spread anywhere, even on a cruise ship. A pleasant vacation may have some passengers
choosing to jump ship, if the Norwalk virus is a passenger on board.
The virus has received its name from its birth in Norwalk Ohio. It was responsible for a short term
outbreak of gastroenteritis occurring in the students of Bronson elementary school in November of
1968. It wasn t until 1972 the virus was examined and received its name as the Norwalk virus. Since
its known birth, there have been many outbreaks with similar symptoms reported. It is believed the
virus may belong to the family Caliciviridae. The Norwalk virus is actually part of a group of single
stranded RNA, non enveloped viruses. Once a person is infected with the virus it begins to copy itself
within small intestines. The symptoms would develop between 12 and 48 hours and tend to last 1 3
days.
In reality, the viruses from the Caliciviridae cause nearly 18% of all the short term gastroenteritis
cases worldwide. The Norwalk virus is responsible for the small scale outbreaks that occur on cruise
ships. Unfortunately, people who have been infected by the virus can spread it directly to other people

It Was Awful And Bitter When The Allies And The Central
It was awful and bitter when the Allies and the Central Powers clashed and unleashed their military
power at the war front in World War I. World War I also known as the war to all end wars, or the Great
War occurred between June 28, 1914, to November 11, 1918. The war left over thirty eight million
civilians and militaries casualties. Much work was needed to get the European countries back together
after the war. In the book Fear written by Gabriel Chevallier, the narrator shows the unforgettable

He takes a time throughout to book to look at his reason why he went off to war. The physical scars
that Jean left with during the war were clearly seen in these accounts. Emotionally the soldiers went
off to work feeling unbeatable with a strong nationalistic pride. However, they soon realized that all
their emotions would not be able to conqueror the evils the war had to offer. One of the most horrific
memories for Jean was when he spoke about the different type of corpse he saw while they were on
their way to another town. They had crouched down on their knees under a pile of debris. When they
got up they saw a decapitated head of a soldier who probably died days ago. Jean is shaken up by this
horrific site by saying that when he looked at the man s face he could fell like the man was blaming
him for his death. He reminisces on all the horrific events emotionally that left him scarred, however,
he goes on to say that this was the most horrible impression that he could take away from the war
front. Jean later goes on to describe the agony and numerous positions where the corpse would lay.
Personally, as the reader, I could really fell the suffering of the dying soldiers when Jean describes the
glass eyes and twisted mouths of the dead bodies in the trench . This evidence took a toll on Jean
because he leaves the scene in disgust and without hope of a return home. Lastly, the war

Economic Systems And The Economic System
Throughout homo sapiens evolution tribes managed resources the most efficient ways possible (given
their acute primitiveness). For those thousands of years as tribes, they expanded their intellects and
became less self reliant, moving away from hunting and gathering. Humans started to invent new
technologies that made their lives easier; thus, individuals specialized in producing or providing these
goods and services to fellow tribe members. As they cultivated ever more superior technologies the
standard of living grew. This gave way to exponential population growth, towns, cities, kingdoms, and
empires were established. Macroeconomics arose as societies devoted time and energy into governing
their factors of production and maximizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the buyer and seller consider their own personal gain when exchanging, thus, self interest
is the motivating force in the free market. The struggle among producers for the dollar of consumers is
competition; it is the regulating force behind the free market. Competition pushes businesses to
produce goods of higher quality and moderate their desire to raise prices. To summarize, the free
market elevates the standard of living, economic efficiency, economic freedom, and economic growth.
Nevertheless, a free market system s shortfall is that it cannot achieve economic equity and economic
security easily. Consequently, the centrally planned economy exists to achieve the weaknesses of the
free market. In a centrally planned economy, the government, rather than individual producers and
consumers, answers the key economic questions. The government controls all factors of production
and directs workers to produce a certain number of goods. Command economies oppose private
property, free market pricing, competition, and self interest. However, command economies do not
perform well in practice, lacking logistics to coordinate an entire economy, reducing efficiency and
economic growth. Thus, countries with central command are going through an economic transition
into mixed economies. Mixed economies are a market based economic system in which the
government is involved to some extent; the government

Grease Character Analysis
In the movie Grease, John Travolta portrays the character, Danny. Danny especially struggles
throughout the movie trying to figure out exactly who he is. It remains very common for teenagers to
struggle with identity while going through different stages of their lives. Identity is a self definition or
sense of who one is, where one is going, and how one fits into society. As much as Danny does not
want to see it when he is around certain individuals he acts much different than what he does around
other individuals. Furthermore, I will cover four topics on how Danny struggles with identity
throughout the movie Grease with the following topics: how Danny views himself, how Danny s
friends view him, how Sandy views him, and lastly how Danny changes throughout the movie. John
Travolta s character, Danny Zuko, sees himself as the leader of his group. When he is around his
friends he sees himself as such a badass. For example, in the beginning of the movie when Danny first
sees that Sandy is going to be going to his school, it is easy to notice that Danny is struggling to
decide how he wants to react to her being there because his friends are around. When Danny is around
Sandy, he is a completely different person than he is around his friends. For instance, in the intro of
the movie it shows how the two spent their summer together at the beach every day. Danny treated
Sandy like such a lady. These two cases show how Danny perceives himself differently around certain

Food security is defined as a situation in which a countries people have physical, social and economic

In the recent years, and especially starting from 2008, the Kenya has been facing severe food

food in the right amounts and quality. Official estimates indicate over 10 million people are food

Around the world the hijab, niqab, burqa, and other veils Muslim women wear are being criticized and

34% in 2013 in comparison to 10% in 2012. For every dollar of capital employed, RadioShack is
losing $0.34. The dramatic dip stems from 2012 s positive earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT)
of 155.1 million dollars to 2013 s EBIT of 344 million dollars (see Appendix A for financial statement
data). Capital employed is determined by subtracting current liabilities from total assets. In 2013,
capital employed decreased by 79 million dollars. ROCE is used to view the long term profitability of
firms ( Financial Dictionary ). A more in depth trend analysis done over several years would need to
be done to determine the longevity of RadioShack. Return on sales (ROS) is determined by dividing
operating profit, an interchangeable term with EBIT, by sales. RadioShack experienced a 14%

Impact Of Modernisation Of Ireland
The modernisation of Ireland through the period of 1534 1750 was monumental in the development of
Ireland itself. While it would be impossible to delve into detail of all the occurrences and reforms that
modernised Ireland in this period, it must be acknowledged that the reformation, restoration,
plantations, constitutional changes and various monarch s interests and activities in Ireland greatly
affected the changes in the country. Throughout this essay the focus shall be directed towards political
changes, plantations and Oliver Cromwell s activities in Ireland that led to a modernised early modern
Ireland by the end of the 18th century. In the year 1534 Thomas FitzGerald, the 10th Earl of Kildare,
publicly renounced his allegiance to Henry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The modernization of Ireland was now vividly clear in the parliament held in Dublin in 1541 the
active constitutional status of the Ireland had monumentally become altered Ireland was now
established in law as a single and distinct sovereign entity joined to England only under the rule of a
common monarch, it could no longer be counted as a divided lordship but now Ireland was an equal
part of the United Kingdom This so called constitutional revolution understandably modernized
Ireland, the Tudor resolution to Irelands problems seemed to be that a civil society would be created
and obtained in Ireland through the government systems already in place there as well as using
institutional development and reform. It could be stated that these reforms were not necessarily
unsuccessful in Ireland throughout this time as it was not until 25 February of the year 1570 when
Pope Pius V issued a papal bull, Regnans in Excelsis, declaring Elizabeth I of England a heretic and
allowing all her subjects to be released from any allegiance to her therefore allowing the catholic
people of Ireland to rebel against the monarchy and establishment in

Zora Neale Hurston Influence
Many writers allow their personal experiences to influence their writing, but Zora Neale Hurston used
her life to influence others. Hurston took her personal experience and used it to show impoverished
black youth that they can be successful. The way she was raised influenced her and created a woman
who would pave the way for feminists to be recognized as a respectable group. Hurston had a way
with words that still, to this day, have an affect on youth and will affect future generations.. Her
childhood and her introduction to average American society developed Hurston into a preacher of
equal rights, a teacher of confidence, and a writer ahead of her time.
Hurston grew up very differently from other black children in her time. She was ... Show more content

Hurston intended to show the beauty and wealth of genuine Negro material as a response to the
stereotyping of black people in literature (Draper 1068 1069). Sykes is shown as a successful
independent black man which was something not seen often in Hurston s time. Her material mainly
focused on black and black relations over black and white relations. By focusing on the successful
side of black life that she grew up with, Hurston was able to show black youth a potential future for
themselves that they may not have thought possible with their current situation. Condemning those
who oppressed African Americans and defying traditional norms was Hurston s way of disrupting the
social climate of the time (Champion). In her works, she was able to shine a light on societal problems
that she believed needed fixing. Literature was the only way to fight because as a black woman she
had no other ways to fight without incarceration. Hurston intended to present the side of black people
that many white people did not see, her writings were important because they...[presented] characters
who...[were] undeniably and realistically human (Draper 1068). Hurston had to provide realistic black
characters in a time that black people were still seen as worthless by many. She wanted people to
understand that white people and black people were just people. Hurston wrote good characters, not
good people, to show that all races of people had bad eggs. The characters in Sweat were very
realistic, whether they be gossiping on the porch or abusing their wife, they are acting as real people
do. They may not be doing things that are morally right, i.e. being abusive, but that is a fault in
humanity that all races are guilty of. Hurston had seen many different types of people throughout her
life and was able to express these different personalities with expertise. Knowing how to write a
character is just as important as

Melancholic Tone In Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
Throughout the retelling of June s past with her mother Suyuan, there is a wistful and almost
melancholic tone that permeates throughout their story. June reminisces on how she could never quite
live up to her mother s expectations, and it was difficult to live with the burden of being her mother s
source of disappointment. When Lindo tells her that she must go to meet the twin daughters Suyuan
was forced to abandon during war and to fulfill them with everything about their mother, June is
hesitant to go because she feels that she never really knew her mother either. However, the movie
reveals that not long before Suyuan s death, the mother and daughter do reach an understanding: even
though June was never the winner of any competitions, she

Strengths And Weaknesses Of A Parliamentary Government
A parliamentary government is a democratic form of government which operates on a party system. It
is the most popular and widely adopted form of democracy. A state that operates on a parliamentary
system is run by two executives, firstly the head of state who is either a monarch or president who
then appoints a prime minister as the head of government. A parliament can be run by either a single
majority political party or as a coalition government in which more than one party collaborate to form
the government. In this essay I will be assessing the key strengths and weaknesses associated with a
parliamentary government. In doing so I will conclude that whilst a parliamentary government has
weaknesses its strengths outweigh these and therefore it is the superior form of democratic
government.
As the most widely adopted form of democratic government there are many strengths associated with
a parliamentary government. The parliamentary system is often praised for the fast and efficient way
in which it is able to pass legislation. The reason this is possible is because unlike a presidential
system the legislative and executive power in a parliamentary system are merged together. Due to this
fusion of power legislation does not have to undergo a lengthy process and therefore laws can be
formulated and put into place much quicker(Bates, 1986: 114 5). Another advantage of a
parliamentary system is that the majority of the power is not held by one individual head of state but
rather is more evenly divided among a single party or coalition. One of the main benefits of this is that
as there is more of a division of power a parliamentary government is less prone to authoritarianism
than a presidential system. Juan Linz argues that a presidential system is more dangerous due to the
fact that; Winners and losers are sharply defined for the entire period of the presidential mandate
(Linz, 1990: 56), this sharp line between winners and losers increases tension between these two
groups and allows the winner to isolate themselves from other political parties (Linz, 1990: 56). Due
to this tension and isolation a presidential system is at a higher risk of turning into an authoritarian
regime than a parliamentary system.

Should Obese People Pay Higher Health Insurance Premiums...
Writing Assignment #3: Should obese people pay higher health insurance premiums than people who
are not obese? Rishard Rheyas Obesity has become a serious problem with more than one third of
adults being obese in the United States. Obesity is seen as a self destructive behavior accompanied
with smoking and use of other drugs thus, government officials and other business bureaucrats
expressed the need to impose higher health insurance premiums on the obese. Obesity is not always
due to the personal behavior of people and can be linked with the environment and genetics; I
personally feel that obese people should not pay a higher health insurance premium compared to those
that aren t. Government officials and other business bureaucrats ... Show more content on

David Zinckenko argues in his article don t blame the eater , that it is a matter of personal
responsibility but can sympathize with the obese individuals as there is a lack of alternatives and
information regarding fast food consumption. Society in the United States has raised concern about
healthy diets, providing alternatives sources of food but unfortunately at a cost. The increased cost for
a healthy diet dissuades teenagers from eating healthier food thus without a change of environment it
can result in a lifetime of obesity. David Zinckenko briefly brings in the comparison with the
automobile industry. The automobile insurance is significantly high for most high end vehicles and
also for the younger generation. This is mainly because the higher end vehicles have a certain type of
brand value and reputation as with certain big health insurance companies. The youth are charged
higher automobile insurance as they are more prone to accidents as suggested with smokers and obese
individuals with diseases. The government and other respective officials imposing this would mean
that obesity is termed a disease which would force individuals to try to become thinner. This could
lead to dangerous diseases such as anorexia. The difference is mainly because health insurance has a
closer link to our economy and human life as compared to automobile insurance. Individuals should
be given rights to decide what they would like as with the automobile insurance wherein

Audie Murphy Audie Murphy was the most decorated American Army soldier of World War II. The
orphaned son of Texas sharecroppers, he enlisted at age 18 and went on to win two dozen military
medals for valor, including the Congressional Medal of Honor. After the war Murphy parlayed his war
time fame into a career as a movie actor, song writer, and business man. He wrote his war memoirs, To
Hell and Back, and played himself in the 1955 movie of the same name. The 20th of June is officially

Corrine adjusted his birth date to make him appear 18 years old. That was the youngest legal age to be
in the military, so he was allowed to join. Audie wanted to be enlisted in the Marines, but he was
turned down for being too short. After that, he tried the paratroopers, but they said he didn t have the
right kind of build for the job. So finally, he was forced to settle with the United States Army. After he
was enlisted, he was sent to Camp Wolters, Texas, for basic training. During a session of close order
drill, he passed out! His grumpy company commander tried to have Audie transferred to a cook and
bakers school because he thought Audie was too young and weak, but Murphy persisted on becoming
a combat soldier. Finally, after 13 weeks of basic training, he was sent to Fort Meade, Maryland for
advanced infantry training. Audie Murphy still had a lot of trouble and had to fight the system to get
overseas and into actual combat. But he was very persistent and his persistence finally paid off, and in
early 1943, he was shipped to Casablanca, Morocco in Africa as a replacement in Company B, 1st
Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment (United States), 3rd Infantry Division. Disappointed, Murphy didn t
see any action in Africa, but he participated in extensive training maneuvers along with the rest of the

Women Roles In The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien Essay
In this book there are three major women Linda, Martha, and Mary Anne. Linda s role is positive yet
very saddening because she in a way has given Tim O Brien the power to tell stories so in depth using
memories. Mary Anne s role is encouraging because she comes to Vietnam and throughout the journey
she discovers herself; she redefines the typical role of women. Martha s role in this book could be
considered positive because she is keeping up Jimmy Cross s morale but, at the same time it could be
negative because she leads him on. So the role of women in the book is very influential in a positive
way. Mary Anne is portrayed as the best woman in the book. She is only seventeen and her high
school sweetheart, Mark Fossie, arranges it so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You just begin to see how she can t handle the war without going mad.
Martha is the first women we meet in the book. She is pretty much the typical stay at home war girl.
She writes letters to Lt. Jimmy Cross, they met at a college in New Jersey but nothing sparked
between them besides a friendship. There isn t any hope of them ever being together but Jimmy Cross
still thinks about her constantly everyday. In one particular letter she sends him a good luck pebble.
Martha wrote that she had found the pebble on the Jersey shoreline and carried it in her breast pocket
for several days (8). Jimmy Cross reads the letter spends hours wondering who she was at the beach
with, if she was with a man, if they were a couple. When the women sent letters home, it really helped
keep the morale of the soldier s. Although Martha continues to kind of mislead Jimmy when she signs
the letters love. Ted Lavender was shot in the head on his way back from peeing. He lay with his
mouth open (12).
Linda is the most important woman in the book. Even though she shows up in the end of the book for
the one story, she was Tim O Brien s first love. I just loved her. She had poise and great dignity. Her
eyes, I remember, were deep brown like her hair, and she was slender and very quiet and fragile
looking (228). This shows how much he loves her, he can recall much detail after so long. The reason
she is so important is, she is the one

We do this by using orthodontic appliances such as mouthguards, space maintainers, retainers, expanders, and other devices. This process is important because it helps to ensure the success of later orthodontic treatment. In some cases, it can even prevent the need for braces down the road! For instance, if a child s spacing issues can be resolved while their jaw is still developing and their permanent teeth are still coming in, it may prevent teeth from becoming crowded and needing braces to straighten them. Even if it doesn t prevent crowding completely, it will certainly help the later orthodontic treatment to work faster and more efficiently. How Can Preventive Orthodontics Help My ... • 4. Nutrition For Health And Development Parents become more stressed Circle of anxiety compounding feeding difficulties. (Hall and Elliman 2003) It is well recognized that household food insecurity is one of the three underlying causes of malnutrition. At the international conference of nutrition (ICN) held in Rome in 1992, food security was defined in its most basic form as physical, social and economic access by all people at all times to sufficient, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preference for an active and healthy life. Thus, food insecurity exists when people lack access to sufficient amount of safe and nutritious food, therefore not consuming the food required for normal growth and development, for an active and healthy life. This may be due to the unavailability of food insufficient purchasing power, inappropriate distribution, or inadequate utilization at household level. Food insecurity, poor conditions of health and sanitation and inappropriate social and care environment are the major causes of poor nutritional status. About 65,000 cases of renal cell carcinoma are diagnosed each year in the U.S. Despite advances in diagnosis, especially improved imaging techniques and the incidental diagnosis of many tumors with imaging tests for unrelated complaints, about 20 30% of all patients are diagnosed with metastatic disease. In addition, another 20% of patients undergoing nephrectomy will have a relapse and develop metastatic RCC during follow up. For patients with (m RCC), the prognosis is extremely poor, which makes the occurrence of (m RCC) a serious problem for oncologic health care around the world. The American Cancer Society s most recent estimates for kidney cancer in the United States are for 2016: About 62,700 new cases (39,650 in men and 23,050 in women) will occur. About 14,240 people (9,240 men and 5,000 women) will die from this disease. These numbers include all types of kidney and renal pelvis cancers. The seven motivations for asking why are used to convince the audience that it is worthy of research by exploring the relationship with the intentions to discredit the previous findings that state, Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant is one of the best public service campaign to prevent teen pregnancy. This topic presents a number of complications in the lives of both induvial and societal as a whole; providing evidence to answer the readers question on why this topic is of importance and worthy of research. Yearly, $7 billion are taxed to all U.S citizens for welfare and healthcare relating to teen pregnancy, driving the United States to the top as the highest rated country with teen pregnancy. Consequently, almost half of teen mothers are unable to receive a high school diploma; leading to lower occupation income for both fathers and mothers. I myself have personally witnessed the toll it takes on one s life from three women who became mothers at a young age. Many teens are unaware of the high risks and consequences of becoming pregnant or are in denial of the possibility. Being able to be a part of their journey has increased my belief of the importance on this topic and related research. When comparing this article to a good literature review, it successfully provides an adequate overview of previous research done and uses it to enhance the project at hand. When evaluating the quality and relevance of this article, Martins and Jensen do an admirable job communicating the purpose of research to the reader and organizing its literature review. The data from other studies is in chronological order and are structured from broader studies to more specific ones which is seen when the sources are cited. An analysis was provided after presenting the findings from previous studies and the authors were able to communicate how those studies influenced their own research. • 11. The Jewish Ghettos Of The Holocaust Have you ever been in a room so crowded you thought you might implode? Or been so sick you questioned if you were still alive? How about so hungry you felt as though you would shrivel up and simply cease to exist? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you may almost be able to imagine what life was like in the Jewish ghettos. There were ghettos before the Holocaust, the first being in Venice in the 16th century, there are ghettos today, and there will be ghettos in the future, but the Jewish ghettos of the Holocaust are by far the most prominent. According to Merriam Webster a ghetto is, a part of a city in which members of a particular group or race live usually in poor conditions (ghetto). This paper will focus, however, on what daily life was like in the ghettos, what Jews did or didn t do to prevent their fate, and how Holocaust survivors are doing now. I chose this topic because when Elie and his family were living in the ghetto in the beginning of Night, it seemed as though they had plenty of opportunities to escape that they didn t take. It also seemed much closer to pleasant than I imagined, and I was curious to see if that was completely true. When I started this project I was hoping to find personal survivor stories about what the conditions of the ghettos, how people transitioned into life in them, and what they did to try and keep life as normal as it could be. I was expecting a bounty of examples of indifference because in Night the Jews ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Castiglione Vs Machiavelli Essay In between the 14th and 17th century, a time period known as the Renaissance occurred, in which modern literature, art, and music were revived and thrived throughout a large portion of Europe that founded several differentiating ideas and views throughout its time. From the mid 1400s to the mid 1500s several authors arose with varying views on how the government should act; however, views such as these were strictly prohibited by both members of the Catholic church and Protestant reformers, and were often viewed as heretical, which led to threats and attacks from these people as a result. The recorded writings of three Renaissance authors, Niccolò Machiavelli, Desiderius Erasmus, and Baldassare Castiglione, hold both similar and differing ideas, most notably on the politics and government in their time. It is believed that Canada was in violation of the human rights when they forced the aboriginals to get assimilated into a Eurocentric society. There were instances of children being forced from homes into Christian schools. This was violation of human rights ( Asch 98). Different laws like the Indian Act and other treaties played an outstanding role in shaping Aboriginal relationship in Canada. The Indian Act led to a huge conflict of interest following its effect on the Indians living in Canada during its implementation. The Indian Act was a mechanism that strengthened the eviction of Indians ad also a means of displacing Indians from their tribal lands. On the onset of the 19th Century, land hungry Canadian settlers clustered in the coastal south of Canada and slowly moved into the neighboring states. Since most of the tribes occupying that area were the Indians, the Canadian settlers petitioned the Canadian government to remove them as they perceived them as an obstacle to expansion towards the west. The rationale for the Indian Act was that the southeast Indian tribes had no attachment to any particular land. However, this rationale ignored the fact the Indian tribes had vast crops of corn and lived in settlements. Those who benefited from the Indian Act are the Canadian settlers who had immense hunger for Indian land. The Canadian Settler lured the Indian tribes into signing the treaty by guaranteeing them peace and integrity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the National Reading Panel (2000) and the National Early Literacy Panel (2009) reported that strong early oral vocabulary knowledge is a predictor for later successful reading outcomes, an increased research and teaching focus in this area has arisen. The achievement gap that is a central concern in education and society today is associated to a word gap that begins early in life. • 17. The Social Responsibility Of Business In his paper titled The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase Its Profits , Milton Friedman addresses the key issue of weighing social responsibility against profit maximization for shareholders. This conflict is the basis for Friedman s whole paper, as he explores the two sides of the situation. In order to set up his argument, Friedman lays down a framework by explicitly stating a certain premise. This is that businessman view social responsibility and profit as not being mutually exclusive. In other words, the majority of businessman believe that they can operate a socially responsible operation, while still optimizing profits in the long run. Friedman argues in favor of this viewpoint by making a claim and providing a solid line of reasoning to support his claim. Friedman s main claim in this paper is that corporate executives must conduct business with the aim to satisfy the desires and wishes of shareholders. He says that often the principal desire of shareholders is to maximize profits for the company, while still conforming to the rules of society. These rules can be purely legal, but can also be ethical and moral rules that are imposed by society. Friedman argues that any social responsibilities that go beyond the scope of maximizing profits is pure and unadulterated socialism (239). • 18. The Experience Of Enslavement To Africans And Europeans Experience of Enslavement to Africans and Europeans Enslavement was a one of the horrors that the Africans endured to help them survive in a foreign area. The Africans did not have a choice becoming a slave thus acting like a piece of property for the people that would ensure that they would incriminate the people. Enslavement was a challenge to the black people that made it difficult for them to lead their normal lives because they were rooted from their families and dumped in a new country where they had to oblige to the commands of their owner. According to Equiano, the Africans had to cross the Atlantic Ocean under the boats where they had confinements like animals unfit for human survival (1789) . Numerous of them died on the way from diseases, hunger among other reasons and they would dump them into the sea leaving them there as food for the fishes which is inhumane. Slavery was difficult because it was not a voluntary act thus denying people the choice to make their independent decisions. Enslavement led to separation of the Africans from their families back at home and even the families that they started while in the United States. Some of the slaves had their families in the United States and they did not preside over their care because their owners could take their sons to work as butlers while the girls in the kitchen or act as concubines to the owners. In some cases, some of the children would be sold to other parts at a good price without consideration their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Austen believes that woman are as intelligent and capable as men and considers their lower status in society of being unjust. During the 1800s, many women married solely for the sake of financial security. In Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth is able to be happy by refusing to marry for financial purposes and only marrying a man whom she truly loves and esteems. Elizabeth s ending reveals Austen s beliefs that woman has the right to remain independent until she meets the right man. An example of Austen s view on feminism is, It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife . In this quote from page 1, Jane Austen is saying isn t really that all wealthy bachelor s need a wife, but that women always assume a wealthy, single man to need a wife. Elizabeth, as well as her sisters, are representatives of the dependent young women who MUST marry well in order to remain respectable or even to progress upwards on the social ladder. The quote, therefore, is also a confirmation of Austen s belief that women in her society were very much dependent on marriage and this has progressed to such an extent that women have thus ended up looking upon all wealthy bachelors as an advantage. Hence, the assumption that all wealthy bachelors MUST be wanting to get married actually disguises the truth, that it is, in fact, the women who are desperate for marriage. Racism And Sexism In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness Literature is a global art that throughout many languages, cultures, and as well as the course of time, is open to a magnitude of perspectives and opinions, ranging from literary criticisms written by literary scholars to school students undertaking VCE. From the time Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad was published in 1899 the novel has been held under considerable scrutiny as many interpretations have been developed over the novels true intent as well as the overall message portrayed within. Chinua Achebe s An Image of Africa is a well known criticism on Heart of Darkness that focuses on a Post Colonial perspective to describe the nature of the novel. Jeremy Hawthorn s The Women of Heart of Darkness is another well known criticism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Achebe also criticises Conrad s lack of language for his African characters as dehumanising in its attempt to strip the characters of respectable voices by instead describing their language as animalistic grunts and cries . The few instances within the novel where an African character speaks English are described by Achebe as deliberate in their insinuation that the African people are unintelligent and illiterate. Achebe again contrasts Conrad s use of Africa as a place of dehumanisation as alienating the African people rather than inspiring inhumanity in the white colonialists that have travelled there. While many readers would agree with the failed attempt at the exploration of racism, one must contend that writing about something does not necessarily remove it from criticism and as such when reading Heart of Darkness one can gather the inklings of prejudice weaved within the text by an author who is known for racist values. While the text is deserving of appreciation, as for some it is deemed a literary masterpiece, one cannot ignore the racist undertones of the novel as it is clear that Conrad has prejudices towards Africa and her people and that these feelings were intertwined into the plot. The Golden Age of Sail in Saint John Even as the Golden Age of Sail was coming to a close, Saint John had remained at the top the fourth largest shipbuilding center in the world and one of the greatest in North America. Their affluence took a turn during 1877, when the Great Fire of Saint John devastated the city. It shattered not only the lives of city shipbuilders and merchants, but crippled local citizens as well. Summers in Saint John were typically dry and muggy, though on June 20, 1877 there was an eerie uncharacteristic breeze. Although the cause of the original spark remains unknown, it is believed to have started from McLaughlan Son s boiler shop or from a nearby sawmill. As wood is a naturally rapid burning agent, it led to the quick demise of many wood built city structures. The structures in the Market Square area burnt rapidly destroying over 80 hectares (200 hundred acres) and 1612 structures including eight churches, six banks, fourteen hotels, eleven schooners and four woodboats in just over a nine hour period. It was a period of despair, as men and women were completely drained after dragging bedding, pieces of furniture and other articles through the streets, a vain task in many cases, as the new places of refuge sought out often proved as unsafe as those that were deserted. It can even spread anywhere, even on a cruise ship. A pleasant vacation may have some passengers choosing to jump ship, if the Norwalk virus is a passenger on board. The virus has received its name from its birth in Norwalk Ohio. It was responsible for a short term outbreak of gastroenteritis occurring in the students of Bronson elementary school in November of 1968. It wasn t until 1972 the virus was examined and received its name as the Norwalk virus. Since its known birth, there have been many outbreaks with similar symptoms reported. In a centrally planned economy, the government, rather than individual producers and consumers, answers the key economic questions. • 42. Financial Analysis Of Radioshack s Financial Stability Financial Analysis RadioShack s financial stability has been a much debated topic in the electronic retail store industry. It has only recently realized that its old formula has not translated well into the current market. Part of its plan to become an active competing member in its industry relies on several factors within the company that can be analyzed, modified using a financial analysis. The financial ratios will let them identify their problem areas in comparison to their industry competitors. Ratio Analysis The return on capital employed (ROCE) ratio is a profitability ratio that measures how well profits are being generated based on capital employed. RadioShack s ROCE dropped down to 34% in 2013 in comparison to 10% in 2012. For every dollar of capital employed, RadioShack is losing $0.34. The dramatic dip stems from 2012 s positive earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of 155.1 million dollars to 2013 s EBIT of 344 million dollars (see Appendix A for financial statement data). Capital employed is determined by subtracting current liabilities from total assets. In 2013, capital employed decreased by 79 million dollars. ROCE is used to view the long term profitability of firms ( Financial Dictionary ). A more in depth trend analysis done over several years would need to be done to determine the longevity of RadioShack. Return on sales (ROS) is determined by dividing operating profit, an interchangeable term with EBIT, by sales. RadioShack experienced a 14% ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While it would be impossible to delve into detail of all the occurrences and reforms that modernised Ireland in this period, it must be acknowledged that the reformation, restoration, plantations, constitutional changes and various monarch s interests and activities in Ireland greatly affected the changes in the country. Throughout this essay the focus shall be directed towards political changes, plantations and Oliver Cromwell s activities in Ireland that led to a modernised early modern Ireland by the end of the 18th century. It could be stated that these reforms were not necessarily unsuccessful in Ireland throughout this time as it was not until 25 February of the year 1570 when Pope Pius V issued a papal bull, Regnans in Excelsis, declaring Elizabeth I of England a heretic and allowing all her subjects to be released from any allegiance to her therefore allowing the catholic people of Ireland to rebel against the monarchy and establishment in ... Hurston took her personal experience and used it to show impoverished black youth that they can be successful. Hurston had a way with words that still, to this day, have an affect on youth and will affect future generations.. Hurston intended to show the beauty and wealth of genuine Negro material as a response to the stereotyping of black people in literature (Draper 1068 1069). Sykes is shown as a successful independent black man which was something not seen often in Hurston s time. Her material mainly focused on black and black relations over black and white relations. By focusing on the successful side of black life that she grew up with, Hurston was able to show black youth a potential future for themselves that they may not have thought possible with their current situation. Condemning those who oppressed African Americans and defying traditional norms was Hurston s way of disrupting the social climate of the time (Champion). In her works, she was able to shine a light on societal problems that she believed needed fixing. Literature was the only way to fight because as a black woman she had no other ways to fight without incarceration. Hurston intended to present the side of black people that many white people did not see, her writings were important because they...[presented] characters who...[were] undeniably and realistically human (Draper 1068). Hurston had to provide realistic black characters in a time that black people were still seen as worthless by many. She wanted people to understand that white people and black people were just people. Hurston wrote good characters, not good people, to show that all races of people had bad eggs. The characters in Sweat were very realistic, whether they be gossiping on the porch or abusing their wife, they are acting as real people do. They may not be doing things that are morally right, i.e. being abusive, but that is a fault in humanity that all races are guilty of. • 47. Strengths And Weaknesses Of A Parliamentary Government A parliamentary government is a democratic form of government which operates on a party system. It is the most popular and widely adopted form of democracy. A state that operates on a parliamentary system is run by two executives, firstly the head of state who is either a monarch or president who then appoints a prime minister as the head of government. A parliament can be run by either a single majority political party or as a coalition government in which more than one party collaborate to form the government. In this essay I will be assessing the key strengths and weaknesses associated with a parliamentary government. In doing so I will conclude that whilst a parliamentary government has weaknesses its strengths outweigh these and therefore it is the superior form of democratic government. As the most widely adopted form of democratic government there are many strengths associated with a parliamentary government. The parliamentary system is often praised for the fast and efficient way in which it is able to pass legislation. The reason this is possible is because unlike a presidential system the legislative and executive power in a parliamentary system are merged together. Due to this fusion of power legislation does not have to undergo a lengthy process and therefore laws can be formulated and put into place much quicker(Bates, 1986: 114 5). Another advantage of a parliamentary system is that the majority of the power is not held by one individual head of state but rather is more evenly divided among a single party or coalition. One of the main benefits of this is that as there is more of a division of power a parliamentary government is less prone to authoritarianism than a presidential system. Juan Linz argues that a presidential system is more dangerous due to the fact that; Winners and losers are sharply defined for the entire period of the presidential mandate (Linz, 1990: 56), this sharp line between winners and losers increases tension between these two groups and allows the winner to isolate themselves from other political parties (Linz, 1990: 56). Due to this tension and isolation a presidential system is at a higher risk of turning into an authoritarian regime than a parliamentary system. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rishard Rheyas Obesity has become a serious problem with more than one third of adults being obese in the United States. Obesity is seen as a self destructive behavior accompanied with smoking and use of other drugs thus, government officials and other business bureaucrats expressed the need to impose higher health insurance premiums on the obese. David Zinckenko argues in his article don t blame the eater , that it is a matter of personal responsibility but can sympathize with the obese individuals as there is a lack of alternatives and information regarding fast food consumption. Society in the United States has raised concern about healthy diets, providing alternatives sources of food but unfortunately at a cost. The increased cost for a healthy diet dissuades teenagers from eating healthier food thus without a change of environment it can result in a lifetime of obesity. David Zinckenko briefly brings in the comparison with the automobile industry. The automobile insurance is significantly high for most high end vehicles and also for the younger generation. This is mainly because the higher end vehicles have a certain type of brand value and reputation as with certain big health insurance companies. The youth are charged higher automobile insurance as they are more prone to accidents as suggested with smokers and obese individuals with diseases. The government and other respective officials imposing this would mean that obesity is termed a disease which would force individuals to try to become thinner. This could lead to dangerous diseases such as anorexia. The difference is mainly because health insurance has a closer link to our economy and human life as compared to automobile insurance. Individuals should be given rights to decide what they would like as with the automobile insurance wherein ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
