Gattaca Essay
The story of Vincent shows in Gattaca that there is possibility of beating the genetic engineering
system. Vincent is one of the last naturally born babies born into a sterile, genetically enhanced
world, where life expectancy and disease likelihood are ascertained at birth. Myopic and due to
die at 30, he has no chance of a career in a society that now discriminates against your genes,
instead of your gender, race or religion. Vincent an invalid, dreams of working within Gattaca and
making it into space. He combines with Jerome who was disabled in an accident to take his
identity and live his life to enter the Gattaca Corporation. Vincent is selected for his lifelong desire,
a manned mission to Titan.
But did Vincent really beat genetic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He gained help from the cleaner which took his cup of water, which was his previous boss when
he was a cleaner at Gattaca.
Constantly passing gene tests by diligently using samples of Jerome s hair, skin, blood and urine,
his now perfect world is thrown into increasing desperation, his dream within reach. The mission
director is killed and he carelessly loses an eyelash at the scene, which puts Vincent/Jerome at the
scene. Certain that they know the murderer s ID, but unable to track down the former Vincent, the
police start to close in, with extra searches, and new gene tests. With the once in a lifetime launch
only days away, Vincent must avoid arousing suspicion, while passing the tests, evading the police,
and not knowing whom he can trust.
But as the film come to an end you could see Vincent s valid perfect world was coming to a
discrete stop by his brother trying to convict him of the fraud at Gattaca. Vincent unwilling tells
Anton that it is to far now and that he has beaten the system to let him fly to space. All of Vincent
s and Jerome s effort and hardship been put into this launch, and he would never let his own
brother which was a genetically engineered male stop his path to his life long dream. Jerome
shows how elitist the valid are and how they look down on

Ethnic Differences Between Nationality And Ethnicity
Rise of Nationalities
A group of people tied to a place is a nationality. Ethnicity is similar to nationality. The American
nationality includes any citizen, born or immigrated and became a citizen, of the United States.
Immigrants consider ethnicity more important than nationality. Violate conflicts can be a result of
confusion between nationality and ethnicity.
Nation States
Ethnic groups have become nationalities because the want for self rule is a common attitude for
many of them. Ethnicities want to govern themselves without interference. This is called self
discrimination. Political leaders supported self discrimination in order to put Earth s surface into
nation states. A nation state is a state that is occupied by an ethnicity and can be turned into a
nationality. self discrimination Ethnicities want to govern themselves without interference. nation
state A state that is occupied by an ethnicity and can be turned into a nationality.
Nation states in Europe
In Europe in the 19th century, ethnicities were changed to nationalities. The French ethnic
traditions fused with the Roman Catholic Church to form the French nationality. By 1900, most of
Western Europe was made up of nation states. They competed to control territory in Africa and
Asia and disagreed over boundaries. Eastern Europe did not have nation states. It had a mix of
empires and states that did not correlate to ethnicity. Nazis claimed that all german speaking parts
of Europe should be

To What Extent Does a Marxist Reading of Lord of the Flies...
To what extent does a Marxist reading of Lord of the Flies lead to a fuller understanding of the
novel? Lord of the Flies is based almost entirely on Golding s view that evil is an inherent force
in every man, man produces evil as a bee produces honey . Golding acquired this belief while he
was a soldier in the Second World War. From that point on, he became extremely pessimistic
about human nature, calling it the disease of being human . This belief is shown very clearly, as
he puts innocent children on a deserted island, free of all corruption; free of an external threat,
therefore with no need of an army; abundant in food and supplies, therefore with no need to steal.
Therefore, what evil was left could only come from the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
pig Napoli overthrows the power of Snowball because lot of the animals liked and approved to
Snowball more, much like Jack overthrows Ralph for the same reason. This gives rise to Karl
Marx s argument that It is not the consciousness of men that determines their existence, but their
social existence that determines their consciousness . This means that as both novels were
produced by the socio political and economic circumstances, namely the Cold War, a dystopian
era. The Marxist theory of Class Conflict also helps us understand the novel better. It could be
argued that the groups that form on the island can be considered as classes . As the boys splinter
into factions, some behave peacefully and work together to maintain order and achieve common
goals, while others rebel and seek only anarchy and violence. It could be seen that Ralph and
Piggy are the ruling class, the bourgeoisie, and Jack and his hunters are the working class, the
proletariat. This is because Ralph clearly establishes his role as the chief, with an almost
unanimous consent from the boys, which gives him the power to rule over them. Alternatively, it
could be argued that Jack possesses the highest Class status on the island, due to his ownership of
the choir, his hunters, he says to Ralph, See? They do what I want . Here it could clearly be seen
that Jack and his group no longer

The Environmental Effects Of Plastic Shopping Bags
Originally patented in 1965, the single use plastic shopping bag has since become ubiquitous in
America and around the world. Plastic bags were first introduced in grocery stores in 1977, and by
the early 2000s they constituted 80% of the market for shopping bags (Laskow). These bags caught
on because they were stronger, lighter, waterproof, and many people found them easier to carry
than paper. Most importantly though, they were cheaper, meaning retail stores had strong
incentives to make them available to customers and promote their use (Petru). In other words,
plastic bags became popular, and remain so today, because they are convenient. However, this
convenience does not take into account the environmental effects associated with their production,
distribution, and disposal. Once these aspects of their use are considered, it is clear that the
convenience of plastic shopping bags do not justify the harms to the ecosystem caused by their
existence.
Plastic bags are usually made out of high density polyethylene (HDPE), a strong, durable plastic
made from ethylene monomers (Clark). 134 million metric tons of ethylene are produced each year
as of 2014, with 28% of that production going towards the manufacture of HDPE (Lazonby, Ethene
). Ethylene is produced from oil and natural gas, and in the process has significant environmental
consequences. According to a 2013 study by Ghanta, Fahey, and Subramaniam published in the
journal Applied Petrochemical Research, For ethylene produced from naphtha and ethane [the two
main sources of ethylene], the energy expended during the extraction and ocean based
transportation of fossil fuel sources (crude oil and natural gas) contributes significantly to adverse
environmental impacts such as GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions, acidification, and eco toxicity.
To make ethylene, fossil fuels must be extracted, transported, and processed (Lazonby, Ethene ).
Then the ethylene must be processed to make HDPE (Lazonby, Poly(Ethene) ). HDPE, in the
form of plastic pellets, is then transported to the plastic bag manufacturer. The manufacturing
process of Novolex, a maker of plastic packaging products that sells bags under the brand name
Hilex Poly ( Company Overview ), is described

Piano Lessons In Mrs. Robinson
Mary had begun Piano lessons in order to help her talent of singing to come out well. She had
made new friends and was excited at the new possibilities that lay ahead of her. One of the people
that caught her fancy was Mrs. Robinson. She was in her Eighties but had so much passion for
music. She put everyone through on some of the songs that were considered Classics. Mary could
not believe that a womanwho was this old could have this great passion for life. This led her to
draw close to Mrs. Robinson. She shared very interesting tales with Mary. Their friendship
blossomed into a Mother and Daughter type of relationship.

this comment from Mrs. Robinson. She had encouraged her to get married but Mary was
surprised to hear her say she must not get into a relationship. Mary had lots of respect for Mrs.
Robinson so she asked her to share more about her observations.
Mrs. Robinson told Mary that she had watched the young man and seen that beyond Music they
might not be a good fit. She said that Mary was desperate for love and did not mind to get it from

Ted Kaczynski s Attacks
After nearly a decade of near total isolation, hunting rabbits, and growing vegetables, in 1979, Ted
reunited with his brother and father at the family factory, but was subsequently fired for a
relationship with a female coworker that went south. Later in the year, Ted Kaczynski created his
first homemade pipe bomb, which he sent to a Northwestern University professor, although
ultimately ended up being opened by a Northwestern University campus security officer who
sustained minor injuries to his hand. The focus of Ted Kaczynski s attacks would be on those who
are in some way tied to the development of modern technology. Furthermore in 1979 and 1980, Ted

Andrew Murray was born in Cape Town, South Africa; Murray became a noted missionary leader.
His father was a Scottish Presbyterian serving the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa, and his
mother had connections with both French Huguenots and German Lutherans. This background to
some extent explains his ecumenical spirit. He was educated at Aberdeen University, Scotland, and
at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. After ordination in 1848 he served pastorates at
Bloemfontein, Worcester, Cape Town, and Wellington. He helped to found what is now the

I joke that he is a dead mentor to me, because when I read his writings there is a longing in me to
imitate his faith, his passion for God, his conviction about being holy, his understanding about the
grace of God. I admire just how plainly and affectionately he wrote about heavenly things as
though he truly understood them. I just sit amazed at what God revealed to him and wonder if I
will ever truly know without a shadow of a doubt the things he speaks about. His writings are not
just fluff, but are the meat and potatoes of Christianity. If you read them you will not be
disappointed, but you will be challenged and inspired to believe you really can be godly through
Jesus Christ. This is one of my favorite books, perhaps because it provoked such thoughts of what
true surrender is in the life of the Christian. Should you ever find yourself driven to know the truth
about the surrendered life, select this book and encounter the concepts within. I would recommend
this book to current believers who wish to take their relationship with the Lord to the next level.
His writing is geared towards adults, as the language is appropriate for advanced

Great Chicago Fire Was A Tragedy
T he Great Chicago fire was a tragic. We never knew what actual happened we just have theory s.
We think we know what happened but what we do know was why it was so fierce.
The theory is that a women by the name of Mrs. O Leary was milking her cow when the cow

of hand, before the firefighters got there. It spread so fast from the dry and humid weather. What
didn t help the fact is that the whole city was made out of wood. The city only had one water supply

With the Elders continually being overtaxed with duties, this slowly transitioned to recruited lay
men.
Criteria in hand, I developed a multiple month strategy aimed at attracting new members. Past
precedent and best practices with volunteers indicated that that simply putting out bulletin messages
was not an effective recruitment tool. Thus, our team s first step was the initiation of several face
to face challenges to people we knew to consider the ministry. I believe this attempt failed due in
part to most of the people that we knew were either already engaged in other ministries, or did not
wish to join one.
The next phases included requesting the Small Group Ministry to alert their Group Leaders of
the opportunity to serve the Church; both individually and/or as a small group. This was closely
followed by a similar request to both the Men s, Women s, and High School /Middle School Youth
ministries. I requested that if they were willing to get the word out to us to please make it an in
person and personal appeal at their meetings (again, because general we need help emails tend to
be ineffective). I also made myself available to attend any event or presentation.
Small group ministries created a very nice write up. However, it eventually went out as an emailed
notice. This yielded no recruits. When I unofficially polled a few group leaders at a later training
event, no one recalled that

Analysis Of Any Hope Of Ever Seeing You Again By Eugenio...
Eugenio Montale was an Italian poet who was named the Greatest Italian poet since Leopardi
(Hecht). He was a hopeless romantic and that translated into his poetry and was the theme for
most of it aswell, and the poem Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again is no exception. The poem
Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again portrays two different sides to a story and can be interpreted
in many ways due to its style of writing.
Eugenio Montale was born in Genoa in 1896. In WWI he wa an infirmary worker and later chief
literary critic for Italy with the Corriere Della Sera. He was a music critic, translator and was made
a lifetime member of the Italian Senate in 1967. He also won the Nobel Prize in Literature in
1975. He died six years later in Milan, 1981. In 1927 he fell in love with a married woman who
he nicknamed Mosca which means fly. It is believed that this was borrowed from Ben Jonson s
Volpone. Montale stayed devoted to her until her husband died in 1958. They were married until
Mosca died five years later. He also met an American author named Irma Brandeis who influences
some of his work, which mostly revolves around unattainable love. She made him feel better
through the Fascist years, so when they became separated, he used what he was feeling and put it
into poetry.
Montale wrote his poetry during an era where the theme amor de lonh, love from afar, was
popular, which is also tied to donna angelicata or angelic lady. Donna angelicata is mostly tied to
communication attempts to an allusive lover. His poems are often really personal, including a
lady figure with many names, some of which including Gertu, Liuba, Vixen, Dora and others.
Some of the influencers for his poems include Plato, Shakespeare, Petrarch and The Bible. His
poems almost always deal with fragmentary experience, the meaning of which is either obsucr or
possibly, terrifyingly absent. In Montales Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again , the last five lines
portray strong imagery, which makes the author maybe be destitute or could be seen as the author
carrying some kind of burden. In line six the poem contains descriptive words such as distorted
and tenuous which Convey deep emotion (Bella). The use of these words create a depressing aura

Denzel Washington Fall Forward Speech
In the speech, Fall Forward By Denzel Washington, one of the things that really got to me was
when he talked about deathbeds. He said, Imagine your on your deathbed and standing around
your deathbed are ghosts. Representing your unfulfilled potential. Saying that maybe people
you know, or maybe people that were in your family. And when you are in your deathbed, you
don t want to have to think about the things you didn t do correctly. The people that are know
there thinking Wow you really didn t do it, you didn t fulfill your complet potential. Or when
there s people that relied on you, and you weren t always there for them, and know. Now there
waiting, waiting for you at your deathbed. You knowing that you didn t reach the full potential
that you wanted to get, you didn t get to the point and time. You didn t reach the best. If you
haven t failed, then you really haven t tried. And give up know, your going to have more to do
later in the future and it s going to just be a lot of more work for you, your hurting yourself not
anyone else. And knowing this, this would be very good advice from an elder, an it is definitely
good advice from an elder. He was a good person to get advice from. At one moment in the video,
that it really caught my attention, i thought about, it. It was something along the lines of. Him
talking about people that you could have been there for and then there was oeioke that he could
have helped. The full potential he knows he could get too,

Same Sex Australia
For centuries, same sex couples have been scrutinised and marginalised based on their sexual
orientation, however, over recent decades, movements established by same sex couples have
enticed the Australian Government to equate specific rights and privileges between homo and
heterosexual couples. Although, the progress this movement has maintained has been stagnated by
the influential Christian portion of Australia, whom of which strongly oppose the concept of
homosexuality. Regardless of the superior social status they now withhold, same sex couples are
still confronted with numerous socio economic and cultural injustices within society, manifested
through the immoral beliefs of homophobic citizens and religious characters.

However, at current, homosexual couples are still suffering from various forms of socio economic

homophobia a fear or hatred of homosexuality. This hatred may be reinforced by a number of
factors, including: moral, religious, and political beliefs of a dominant group. Despite the
encouraging progress same sex couples have made throughout this century, deeply embedded

She was the 16th woman to be given a pilot s license and the first to fly across the Atlantic ocean.
Because her family moved a lot looking for work she became independent and did not rely on

soldiers returning from war. This prompted her to volunteer with the Red Cross where she met

History:
Commercial software has been around since 1948 (when the first computer which could hold
software was created, nicknamed baby). The history of FOSS has a strong connection with the
hackers in Massachusetts Institute of Technology. These hackers in 1970s created something
ARPANET (known today as the internet). There were discussions to sell it commercially
however the university and its hackers were strongly opposed to such an idea for they had
worked with the ideology that sharing information is a virtue and they had a moral duty to provide
knowledge to the world. These early hackers stayed true to this ideology and made their software
completely free with the source code completely accessible. Richard Stallman was one of the main
people who pushed forward this ideology preventing the university to monetize the ARPANET and
the software they created.
Late in 1997 in MIT the term Open Source software was coined. The developers also founded OSI

Formal Analysis of the Mona Lisa Essay example
Analysis of the Mona Lisa
Kim Pokladowski
2/20/11
I have always been intrigued with the Mona Lisa, I don t know why but there is something about
her smile and her eyes that captivates me. The realness of the painting and how ordinary the Mona
Lisa is the reason why I can look at this painting with great joy, it doesn t make me think too much,
it doesn t confuse me, the simplicity and the normalcy of this painting is what I enjoy so much.
However, after an analysis you can see that the painting isn t so ordinary.
The Leonardo de Vinci used oils to paint his picture. During the 15th century using oils was very
common. By using oils Leonardo was able to create a real lifelike painting. Since the oils dry
slowly he was probably able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can see that the painting seems to be made up of three triangles. Mona Lisabeing the biggest
then the left top corner is the background and the top right corner, a continuation of the
background. From what we ve read he designed this painting in an upright triangular
composition. However, these two backgrounds seem to not be part of the same landscape. The
left top corner seems more shaded, and darker. Also the winding road I feel might symbolize
troublesomeness, or decisions. Where as, the right top side of the background is a little lighter in
color and the path seems clear and straight. By positioning the Mona Lisa the way Leonardo did
creates balance within the painting. He also did a wonderful job on the symmetry of her face and
of the painting, between the objects in the painting and the color used its self.
You can see that when viewing a painting like this there are many questions that arise in your
mind. Looking at the Mona Lisa I get drawn in and a sense of wonderment comes over me. I start
to imagine the person in the painting and what her smile was really about. A strong, confident
women is what I think she was, and that was brought out beautifully by de Vinci. I also think that
the way he painted the Mona Lisa shows a lot about what and how Leonardo viewed women.
Many say that it was painted for the love of his mother. What do you

The Competitive Advantage Of The Wine Industry
In the world of increasingly global competition every nation want to prove its product as the best in
the world. This phenomenon is called the competitive advantage of the nation, this can only be
created and sustained by immense sense of product knowledge, competition domestically and
internationally. Wineindustry is the one which faces the competition between the traditional wine
makers of the old world and the sophisticated wine producers of the New world. The healthy
competition among the producers and suppliers makes the consumers successful by providing the
best quality. The Old world refereed here constitutes the countries in Europe specifically France,
Italy and Spain and the New world refers to US, Chile, Argentina and Australia. France s
dominance of the wine industry has increasingly come under threat from emerging wine producers
who are more aggressive in marketing their product in the markets previously dominated by France.
Although France is still the world s largest wine producer, it has seen a substantial decline in its
global sales over the last one decade arising from a number of factors; some of them internal and
others which are external. In this case study we will be discussing about the Diamond of National
advantage and how the determinants creates the national environment in which the companies
compete with respect to the Wine industry. The

Routine Activity And Situational Crime Prevention Theory
Routine activity theory states that for a crime to be committed, three important factors need to be
present including: a motivated offender, an accessible target, and the absence of a capable guardian
against a violation. Marcus Felson and Lawrence E. Cohen introduced the routine activity theory in
1979, where they believed that an individual who has these three characteristics gives them a
greater possibility of committing a crime. Moreover, situational crime prevention is known as
strategies of ways for preventing or reducing the opportunities for criminals to commit crimes that
derive from the routines of an individual s everyday life. Ronald V. Clarke introduced situational
crime prevention theory in 1983, where he believed that removing the situation instead of removing
the criminal could prevent crime. In this paper, I will be discussing what routine activity/situational
crime prevention theory is, and apply two peer reviewed articles from Google Scholar that test the
routine activity/situational crime prevention theory by discussing what the authors are trying to
figure out and discuss their findings, and lastly, tie the routine activity/situational crime prevention
theory articles to our textbook in hopes to fully understand in depth what the theory encompasses.

The upper section of the dress is decorated with equally spaced white five pointed stars that are
all outlined by a light shade of orange to help distinguish them against the blue background. In
the very center of the section is a simplified, red, human figure dressed in a long robe and
wielding a curved object in his left hand. Above his head are two Maltese stars, one on each side.
Slightly below the figure are two large black birds that flattened out with their wings stretched out.
The pattern of the equally spaced stars is repeated on the lower half of the dress along with two
birds in the center. The birds are painted in a similar fashion to the ones in the upper half of the

These motifs that ornament the garment are associated with Native American mythology and

Value Of College Education
When one thinks of going to college, what usually comes to mind is the amount of time and money
achieving a higher education requires. Many people often question whether or not seeking an
education after high school is worth all the effort. Although going to college may sometimes seem
difficult and unnecessary, it has been proven to be an important, beneficial chapter of young adults
lives. The value of a college educationis extremely profitable to one s life and career due to the
job opportunities it offers, the skills it allows you to learn, and the benefits it can result in later
on in life. In this day and age, an increasing amount of employers are requiring a higher level of
education in order to hire people. Having a degree allows adults to have multiple choices of
when, where, and how they work. Because of this, college graduates have new and improved
employment opportunities. In a recent study of young americans, 58% of college graduates and
people with some college or associate s degree expressed being very satisfied with their jobs,
compared to only 50% of high schoolgraduates and a drastic 40% of people without a high school
diploma. For many people, working at a job you are fond of is crucial for living a quality life.
Having a degree aids in increasing the amount of choices when selecting a career path you will

The Case Of Bank Of America Vs. The Deaf
Introduction
Laws against discrimination of any kind are implemented so that each individual is able to have an
equal opportunity at employment. In the case of Bank of America vs. the deaf employee who
wanted an interpreter to work with them, there was an indication of discrimination towards the
individual. The Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, was applied to prevent these types of acts
to happen, and due to the issues Bank of America had in rebellion of this act, caused the lawsuit by
the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

History and Background USERRA
In conjunction with the ADA of 1990, there is the Uniformed Services Employment and
Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA), which protects individuals involved in the
military service. This act helps protect those who are active or inactive, having performed as a
member of the military service, to be able to keep or get employment regardless of the service
obligations. Essentially, this act was created to protect veterans from discrimination acts from
organizations and to go along with the equal opportunity employment execution. This act is
supremely important because of the amount of dedication that is involved from a member of the
military service to give their time and put their life on the line for others citizens of this country.
To have this act in place allows those individuals to be able to have flexibility with their careers
in the event they have to leave for deployment and upon their return as such. This is a law that
shows respect and admiration for the service members and states that they are protected in the
event duty calls and they must be called upon to help defend our country (USERRA, 2012, para. 1

What Are Companion Parasites
Companion Animals and their Companion Parasites
1.Abstract
Companion animals and their parasites are discussed. Dog parasites are given majority of the
focus with some information on what parasites are exactly as well as how they can be transmitted.
One parasite is given more of an insight, the roundworm, it is a parasite common to dogs but it can
also be found in cats, humans and many other species.
2.Introduction
Companion animals are the hosts for many different parasites. Animal parasitism is a way of
life in which a parasite species is living in or on a host species to support its livelihood (Olsen,

Several sub topics can be identified when discussing companion animals and their companion
parasites. One of which focuses particularly on dogs, what parasites they are susceptible to, how
they fall victim to these parasites, how to identify and treat them, which is the most common
parasite to dogs and can dogs pass their parasites to other animals or possibly even humans.
The most common parasite found in dogs is the roundworm (Ascaris Lumbricoides). Roundworm
will typically affect puppies before they are born when in the womb, or after they are born when
drinking their mother s milk. When drinking the mother s milk the puppy is actually consuming
larvae of the parasite in the form of very small eggs. Roundworm can only be transmitted passively.
This means that they will need to be consumed by the next host if transmitted to another dog. The
dog could contract the parasite through eating another small mammal that has an infestation such as
a mouse or bird. Figure 1 Image showing the lifecycle of the roundworm in a dog host, notice how
the parasite is adapted to be transmitted externally from one host to the next, this must mean that the
parasite is also adapted to survive in unfavourable conditions while waiting to obtain another host.

first story that will be discussed is the Country of the Blind. In this story it can be seen that
NuГ±ez was being criticized for having eyes. He stumbled on his steps and even as he tried to
explain the wonders of the world that can be seen with the eyes, he could not be understood. He
watched these people go on about their everyday lives using only their four senses and he was

In this story it can be seen that the wealthy man was being stereotypical of the unkempt man. Not
believing that the man made diamonds for a living. But despite this, the wealthy man was
convinced that he was not a thief and even gave his card to this man to call in times of need.
Although the wealthy man is stereotypical of the unkempt man, blindness here can be seen in a
positive light as he still offered to help the man, believing in his honesty but not his work. This
shows that despite blindness being a hindrance for the wealthy man to trust the unkempt man, it
still paved way for him to help the diamond maker even though he did not know what happened
to him in the future, he still answered his calls/messages and tried to help him as best he could
despite being skeptical of the nature of his work or if he even was alive. In the end, he even
doubted himself if he made the right decision of letting the unkempt man walk away. Here,
blindness can be seen as a sort of what if. What if he did believe the man? What if he did buy that
diamond? These questions can only be answered now by the unkempt man should he return and
show himself to the wealthy man ever

Divorce Impact On Divorce
The Family Law Act 1975 (cth) defines divorce as the termination of a marriage otherwise than
by the death of a party to the marriage. The concept of divorce and marriage has dramatically
altered as the values and beliefs of society has changed, starting with the abolishment of the fault
divorce system in 1975, to the creation of online divorce kits by the Federal Magistrates Courts
in 2004. While prior to the Family Law Act 1975 (cth), divorce could be considered too difficult to
attain, today it is considered too easy to divorce. However, the process of marriageis seen as
overcomplicated, requiring multiple prerequisites to be considered legal. When compared to the
relatively difficult process of marriage, divorce can be considered too easy to attain, as a result
impacting the lives of unhappily married couples and their families throughout Australia.

Comparing the Quest in M. Butterfly and American Beauty
The Quest in M. Butterfly and American Beauty
Happiness is defined as enjoying, showing, or characterized by pleasure; joyous; contented. Based
on this definition we all search for happiness our entire lives. Two very different stories address
this idea of the quest for happiness. M. Butterfly by David Henry Hwang is the story of a man
named Gallimard who is longing for his love Butterfly to return to him. John Deeney describes it as
him, clinging to his idea of a Perfect Woman to the end by costuming himself into the victimized
Butterfly though his final suicide. Although Gallimard s infatuation with Song sometimes makes

knows that Gallimard thinks he is the perfect woman. He allows him to believe this for more than

lived most of her life as a lie, only because she thought it was making her happy.
On the other side of Song s insecure image was his lover Gallimard. Gallimard first lived a happy
life with his lover Song. He changed his whole life and even got a promotion because of his new
attitude. Not praising himself he said, It is because of you that I was promoted tonight. You
have changed my life forever. My little Butterfly, there should be no more secrets: I love you
(Meyer 1233). Gallimard truly loved Song and after finding out that Song was really a man, he
was crushed. He was ridiculed everywhere because people could not understand how he did not

treasures from his treasure chest as an act of gratitude. In their culture, gold represents honor

Essay on How Technology is Represented in Star Wars
How Technology is Represented in Star Wars
When watching the film, Star Wars, it is impossible not to be aware of the technology that is
represented in the film, partly because it is so much more advanced than our own is now, but also
because we can imagine how we might someday acquire such technology. The central theme in Star
Wars is good versus evil, clearly demonstrated by the technology in the film. While the Rebels (the
good guys) use technology primarily to fight for freedom and quality of life for all, the Empire
(the bad guys) use technology to develop weapons of destruction and war in an attempt to rule the
galaxy. In addition to these two opposing sides, there is another group that doesn t use technology

However, even if we don t look into the future, Star Wars can tell us volumes about how
technology can affect our society, especially as it pertains to war.
Through the ages there have been constant struggles to resolve disputes. However, as we can see
through our history, sometimes peaceful resolutions are not possible because of misunderstandings,
corruption, power, or greed. In these cases, one alternative to settling the dispute is war.
Technology plays an extremely important role in war, and this is clearly demonstrated in Star
Wars. Star Wars possesses similarities to our own culture and with the vast amounts of technology
represented in the film, it is an ideal choice to better understand our own society.
We are delighted to have the opportunity to examine Star Wars because we feel intimately
connected to the film and all that it represents. We grew up with R2D2, C3PO, Luke Skywalker,
Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca. We dressed up like them for Halloween, we played Star
Wars games for countless hours, we imagined ourselves using their futuristic technology, and now
we want to study how this artifact has affected our society and how it might affect our future.
Research Question:
In the movie, Star Wars, how is technology represented differently in its ability to help humankind
and/or destroy it?

Keats Use Of Figurative Language
In the poem When I Have Fears That I May Cease to be, John Keats reveals his overbearing fear
of dying young. What if he never gets to feel the passions of true love? What if he never gets to
write the mountains of books that he wishes to write? What if he never gets to experience the
fame that he so desires? Fear of not being able to complete our goals before we die is a fear that
lurks in the dark crevices of all of our minds. We must all find a way to fight this fear. Most people
do it by blocking it out completely, but not Keats. Keats confronts his fear full force by announcing
it to the public. Through the use of figurative language, such as repetition, imagery and
personification, Keats leads us through a daunting journey of his greatest... Show more content on

Readers of Keats s story begin to realize that the fear of a young death is a demon that haunts us all.
This was Keats s goal as a romantic writer: to connect with the reader, to portray his ideas in the
form of art, and to make the reader see from his point of view. With his use of colorful figurative
language, such as repetition, imagery, and personification, Keats accomplishes his goal. The
reason that Keats is so successful in painting a clear picture is because he uses his imagination to
write (King). By writing his poem in the form of a Shakespearean sonnet consisting of three
quatrains (King), Keats, like any great artist, clearly states the point he is trying to make.
Apprehension of a young demise is a plague that haunts us all. In When I Have Fears That I May

Symptoms And Treatment Of Posttraumatic Stress Syndrome...
PSTD in Adolescent Kenyans
Posttraumatic stress syndrome or PTSD is a psychological disorder often referred to as the after
affects of traumatic events on your psychological process. Adolescent are usually targeted for PTE
or potential traumatic events, which cause PTSD. PTE can be events such as serious illnesses, war,
violence, or natural disasters. Researchers performed a non clinical study on youth Kenyans in a
rural area.
Africa is one of the most underdeveloped and poorest continents in the world. More specifically
Kenya is one of the poorest countries out of all of the continents. It is said that in Africa having
psychological trauma such as PTSD has become the norm. To make matters worst, almost half of
Kenyans are below poverty with a life expectancy of about 54 and an enormous birthrate. With the
birthrate being so high, most of the populations of Kenyans are children. On the other hand,
because of the lack of money, Kenya has become the 9th highest place where disease is present in
the world.
Researchers conducted a study in order to test the prevalence of PTSD in Kenyans, specifically
the youth group. The subjects consisted of 477 Kenyan secondary students from three different
boarding schools in Kenya. The secondary schools were located in northern and central Kenya.
All three schools were located in areas that resembled the typical Kenyan academic, social, and
environmental aspects. The ages varied from 13 to 20 years of age, and there was an average of 161

Moral Repercussions Of Discrimination
Generally people or groups become stigmatized when they are singled out from their communities
or their social environments. Being stigmatic is not a way to win over moral acceptance. When
individuals are set out or even profiled they often feel as if they have been uprooted and a subject of
discrimination. Which makes them loose faith in there government. Moral repercussions like this
effect individuals and communities as a whole and can have serious and negative impacts when
groups or individuals speak out and acknowledge the discrimination. This can lead to social or
cultural tensions within a governed body. Arguments stating that unspecified surveillance is unfair
because it treats law abiding citizens like suspects without prior wrongdoing miss the point. The

Which is most certainly discrimination. When individuals are subjected to repercussions of
discrimination they often feel as if the standards of the community have not been meet. If they are
innocent of any wrongdoing the individual may show resentment towards the authority. Ultimately
leading to disobedience and distrust, which is exactly what you are trying to prevent. Using the
most un invasive method of surveillance shows the most promising results. The lower the amount
of magnification on the individual, results in less stigmatization. Blanket or patch screenings are
great examples of low magnification implications of surveillance work. They do target specific
places such as airports or schools. But do not discriminate based off any other facts other than
attendance of the establishment itself. They screen these places as a whole so no one in the
establishment is discriminated or treated unequally because of an undesirable trait. These types of
screenings and surveillance methods often show promise both in social acceptance and in

Essay about Cleaner Alternative Transportation
When people think pollution, most think straight to automobiles producing harmful emissions
which contribute to global warming or climate change. Well, this is true. Motor vehicles account
for about half of the toxic air pollutant emissions in the United States. A large part of these toxic
air pollutants is the need to rely on oil as a fuel source. The fact that oil is still the main source of
energy for things like automobiles, when there are other alternatives like electric vehicles, creates
many problems within our society. The United States dependency on oil causes incidents like the
Deepwater Horizon. The estimated amount of oil released stood at 4.9 million barrels and polluted
the area significantly. We as a country need to cut... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Automobiles have since evolved and become almost a necessity for people. While they have
become of major importance, they also hold many drawbacks to our environment. They are the
leading cause of transportation emissions and they generate a majority of America s global
warming emissions. Even though air pollution emissions from motor vehicles have dropped
considerably since 1950, Automobiles still produce about 60% of US transportation emissions and
generate nearly 30% of America s global warming emissions (Car Emissions and Global Warming).
The average conventional automobile can be seen as fairly gas inefficient. Compared to a hybrid
electric vehicle, conventional cars produce about 1.5 times more greenhouse gas emissions and
costs more in fuel costs. Within a 100 mile trip, conventional vehicles produce about 87 lb CO2,
hybrid electric vehicles produce 57 lb CO2, plug in hybrid electric vehicles produce 62 lb CO2, and
all electric vehicles produce 54 lb CO2 (see table 1). This shows that hybrid and electric cars
produce less greenhouse gas emissions and costs less for fuel, compared to a conventional pure gas
powered vehicle.

Right Advisor Essay
Athletes: How to Score the Right Advisor
The key to the financial difficulties of professional athletes is their inability to find not only
qualified advisors and guidance, but also advisors who are ethical and willing to work with their

The Darkling Thrush
The Darkling Thrush Thomas Hardy [1840 1928]
Relevant Background
The poet Thomas Hardy was born near Dorchester in England.
He is also famous for writing novels.
Hardy gained a love of music from his father. Music is a prominent feature of The Darkling Thrush .
Hardy gained his interest in literature from his mother.
At the age of 22 Hardy moved to London and started to write poems. These early poems praised
country life. Yet Hardy didn t publish his poems until he was 58. He was 60 when he wrote this
poem.
Hardy wrote over 900 poems in his lifetime.
Hardy s poems are straight to the point and sometimes gloomy in outlook. In this poem he finds a
source of hope when a thrush suddenly starts to sing.
Hardy s most common theme is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the last stanza, Hardy claims the surrounding dark land provides little reason for this outburst of
joyful singing.
It reminds him of a carol. The song begins to sweeten his gloomy mood.
Hardy suddenly realises the song of the thrush in the falling darkness represents hope.
The poet is in a pleasantly sad mood as he leans alone on the gate watching the century fade into
darkness. But he clings on to the sad mood. He is addicted to it. The hopeful song of the bird
adds a new mood. Hardy becomes aware for the first time that evening of a new hope of things to
come.
He realises that there is a reason to hope, without knowing what that reason is. It is clear that the
thrush alone senses this hope and expresses it.
This is probably nature s way of reminding him that spring always follows winter. Or it may be a
spiritual message from nature. It is certainly uplifting.
Themes
Time
Hardy sets the poem at sunset on the last day of the nineteenth century. He compares the sun to a
weakening eye and this shows Hardy s regret at the fact that the day, year and century are ending
at once. Hardy feels like it may be the end of the world. He shows his sorrow at the ending of the
century by comparing the outline or silhouette of the land to a corpse, with the sky as the roof of
a tomb. The darkness and the lifeless appearance of nature depress Hardy. He seems to feel that
everything comes to an end: end of day, end of year, end of century and end of life. Time

The Titanic In The Sea Of Titanic
Introduction The titanic was one of the supreme distinguished, British passenger liners; it was
commissioned by the white star and was manufactured in Harland and Wolff shipyard, which is
situated in Belfast. The manufactures of historic ship started work on the date 31st March
1909. The titanic was an iconic structure, it was the most quickest and most impressive liner
created during that era. After three years passing, the titanic construction had been completed,
the deluxe streamline machine was ready to set sail from Southampton to New York, on board
was many civilians which included stingy millionaires to heartbroken emigrants, all in
searching for a new life in the USA. Whilist the voyage was taking its toll on the fifth day, the
titanic was making an instantaneous progress across the Atlantic Ocean. The commander of the
vessel had set a new course as he had previously heard previous ships, commentary that ice will
be in the titanic path. During the night of Sunday 14th February 1912, temperatures, severely
destabilised, the sky was clear and the sea was calm like a floating river, all these influential
conditions made ice in the sea, difficult to sea in the ocean. At 11:40pm on the same day, a
lookout spotted a gigantic ice berg in the path of barge and he sounded the alarm, the alarm came
too late, as 40 seconds later the iceberg slashing a series of holes on the side of the hull, the titanic

Analysis Of Peter Singer s Famine, Affluence And Morality
In Peter Singer 1972 article Famine, Affluence, and Morality, He offers a situational thought
experiment in which he makes you question your moral values. It goes like this, imagine you re
walking to class and you are feeling good about how great you looked in your brand new $200
shoes. You pass by this pond and noticed that there is a small child drowning and realize there
isn t much time to call anyone for help. You could stride into the water and pull her to safety, but
If you take the time to remove your shoes and it ll be too late. The second option is that you jump
in knowing that the muddy water would ruin the new shoes. Singer goes on by saying that he s

These are just small ways in which they can improve their lives. The everyday America has this
amount of money sitting around in their coat pocket. So why are these people around the world
still dying? however, most people don t feel the weight of responsibility to help a dying child
that they cannot see or do not know of. People only help went they are faced with the
opportunity and then based their decision to help with their own moral values. Singer created a
great thought experiment in a way that tests one s moral value, but one flaw would be that there
wasn t anyone else around in the situation. You are the only one around in the setting therefore
you must help the child. So, the question is, what if there were many people standing around in
the same location? Would we all have to the responsibility to have to save the child or will we not
stand and watch. According to Singer, if you can help others avoid harm, then you are morally
obligated to help them. However, I don t believe this is always the case. I believe sometimes you
might not be benefiting that other person because they have put themselves in a situation in which
they might have caused that upon themselves. An example of this would be you re at a crosswalk
waiting for the light. A man in a sports

Minorities Affected By Civil And Equal Rights
Minorities Affected by Civil and Equal Rights The Times They Are A Changin is a lyrical poem
written by Bob Dylan. The Fear of Losing a Culture is an auto biographical essay written by
Richard Rodriguez. Both of these literary works have a shared theme of change and social
conflict. However, both works were written at different times in history. There are similarities as
well as differences between the two works. The shared theme of change for these two works is the
change that is taking place in America concerning black Americans and civil rights in The Times
They Are A Changin and Latin Americans and equal rights in The Fear of Losing a Culture . Both
authors wrote about the changes that were taking place in America regarding cultures. Cultures
have changed throughout the years and different cultures should be embraced by the American

Jeff And Digby s Maturity In Greasy Lake
Three young men are about to undergo a rite of maturity that will take them from innocence to

Trophy hunting is hotly debated within the scientific community; Lucille Palazy, who works for the

Maturing Is Hard In Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey
There comes a point in everyone s lives where they are compelled to grow up. When an individual
is young, it is advantageous to undergo new experiences and meet wonderful people, but it is also
possible to be taken advantage and make silly mistakes. In the novel Northanger Abbey, Jane
Austen accurately portrays how the process of maturing is bittersweet. A brief synopsis of this novel
is that the main character, Catherine Morland, gets invited to accompany her neighbors in Bath and
meets the love of her life, Henry Tilney. These two characters face a few minor obstacles along the
way due to her adolescence but they end up getting married, despite their differences in fortune. On
her journey, the audience learns that Catherine is highly inexperienced with society and her vivid
imagination is often the reason that predicaments occur, but she is supported and positively
influenced by Henry and Eleanor Tilney.
Throughout the novel, Northanger Abbey accurately portrays how the process of maturing is
bittersweet, especially when an individual like Catherine Morland is highly inexperienced with
society. She gets involved in similar circumstances to modern day teenagers, including that

Essay On Pascal s Wager
In this essay I will discuss the ontological problem of the existence of God and discuss Pascal s
Wager and how it solves the issue. The problem with the proof of the existence of God is that it
is not something we will know for sure until our dying day. We can speculate and bet on his
existence and feel his presence but at this point it is just that, only a bet. This wager is famous for
opening up minds to look at the problem in a bigger picture. The problem with the existence of
God is not in the answer but instead in the question. Pascal is responsible for refocusing this
discussion on God to the bigger problem of the existential context of humanlife. In a way this can
all be broken down to very black and white terms Either God is or he is not. But upon looking
further we realize that this is a much bigger issue with many grey areas than something as simple
as is or is not . Pascal spends much of his argument refocusing discussion and putting appropriate
context on different situations. The question of God is a much more pressing question in relation
to human mortality. We are much more inclined to draw toward or push away from faith when we
are facing unfavorable situations out of our control. We tend to look harder at the meaning of life
and our moral values when we are found staring death straight in the... Show more content on

  • 3. Ethnic Differences Between Nationality And Ethnicity Rise of Nationalities A group of people tied to a place is a nationality. Ethnicity is similar to nationality. The American nationality includes any citizen, born or immigrated and became a citizen, of the United States. Immigrants consider ethnicity more important than nationality. Violate conflicts can be a result of confusion between nationality and ethnicity. Nation States Ethnic groups have become nationalities because the want for self rule is a common attitude for many of them. Ethnicities want to govern themselves without interference. This is called self discrimination. Political leaders supported self discrimination in order to put Earth s surface into nation states. A nation state is a state that is occupied by an ethnicity and can be turned into a nationality. self discrimination Ethnicities want to govern themselves without interference. nation state A state that is occupied by an ethnicity and can be turned into a nationality. Nation states in Europe In Europe in the 19th century, ethnicities were changed to nationalities. The French ethnic traditions fused with the Roman Catholic Church to form the French nationality. By 1900, most of Western Europe was made up of nation states. They competed to control territory in Africa and Asia and disagreed over boundaries. Eastern Europe did not have nation states. • 4. To What Extent Does a Marxist Reading of Lord of the Flies... To what extent does a Marxist reading of Lord of the Flies lead to a fuller understanding of the novel? Lord of the Flies is based almost entirely on Golding s view that evil is an inherent force in every man, man produces evil as a bee produces honey . Golding acquired this belief while he was a soldier in the Second World War. From that point on, he became extremely pessimistic about human nature, calling it the disease of being human . This belief is shown very clearly, as he puts innocent children on a deserted island, free of all corruption; free of an external threat, therefore with no need of an army; abundant in food and supplies, therefore with no need to steal. Therefore, what evil was left could only come from the... This gives rise to Karl Marx s argument that It is not the consciousness of men that determines their existence, but their social existence that determines their consciousness . This means that as both novels were produced by the socio political and economic circumstances, namely the Cold War, a dystopian era. The Marxist theory of Class Conflict also helps us understand the novel better. It could be argued that the groups that form on the island can be considered as classes . As the boys splinter into factions, some behave peacefully and work together to maintain order and achieve common goals, while others rebel and seek only anarchy and violence. It could be seen that Ralph and Piggy are the ruling class, the bourgeoisie, and Jack and his hunters are the working class, the proletariat. This is because Ralph clearly establishes his role as the chief, with an almost unanimous consent from the boys, which gives him the power to rule over them. Alternatively, it could be argued that Jack possesses the highest Class status on the island, due to his ownership of the choir, his hunters, he says to Ralph, See? They do what I want . Here it could clearly be seen that Jack and his group no longer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Environmental Effects Of Plastic Shopping Bags Originally patented in 1965, the single use plastic shopping bag has since become ubiquitous in America and around the world. Plastic bags were first introduced in grocery stores in 1977, and by the early 2000s they constituted 80% of the market for shopping bags (Laskow). These bags caught on because they were stronger, lighter, waterproof, and many people found them easier to carry than paper. Most importantly though, they were cheaper, meaning retail stores had strong incentives to make them available to customers and promote their use (Petru). In other words, plastic bags became popular, and remain so today, because they are convenient. However, this convenience does not take into account the environmental effects associated with their production, distribution, and disposal. Once these aspects of their use are considered, it is clear that the convenience of plastic shopping bags do not justify the harms to the ecosystem caused by their existence. Plastic bags are usually made out of high density polyethylene (HDPE), a strong, durable plastic made from ethylene monomers (Clark). 134 million metric tons of ethylene are produced each year as of 2014, with 28% of that production going towards the manufacture of HDPE (Lazonby, Ethene ). Ethylene is produced from oil and natural gas, and in the process has significant environmental consequences. According to a 2013 study by Ghanta, Fahey, and Subramaniam published in the journal Applied Petrochemical Research, For ethylene produced from naphtha and ethane [the two main sources of ethylene], the energy expended during the extraction and ocean based transportation of fossil fuel sources (crude oil and natural gas) contributes significantly to adverse environmental impacts such as GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions, acidification, and eco toxicity. To make ethylene, fossil fuels must be extracted, transported, and processed (Lazonby, Ethene ). Then the ethylene must be processed to make HDPE (Lazonby, Poly(Ethene) ). HDPE, in the form of plastic pellets, is then transported to the plastic bag manufacturer. The manufacturing process of Novolex, a maker of plastic packaging products that sells bags under the brand name Hilex Poly ( Company Overview ), is described ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His father was a Scottish Presbyterian serving the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa, and his mother had connections with both French Huguenots and German Lutherans. Thus, our team s first step was the initiation of several face to face challenges to people we knew to consider the ministry. I believe this attempt failed due in part to most of the people that we knew were either already engaged in other ministries, or did not wish to join one. The next phases included requesting the Small Group Ministry to alert their Group Leaders of the opportunity to serve the Church; both individually and/or as a small group. • 13. Analysis Of Any Hope Of Ever Seeing You Again By Eugenio... Eugenio Montale was an Italian poet who was named the Greatest Italian poet since Leopardi (Hecht). He was a hopeless romantic and that translated into his poetry and was the theme for most of it aswell, and the poem Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again is no exception. The poem Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again portrays two different sides to a story and can be interpreted in many ways due to its style of writing. Eugenio Montale was born in Genoa in 1896. In WWI he wa an infirmary worker and later chief literary critic for Italy with the Corriere Della Sera. He was a music critic, translator and was made a lifetime member of the Italian Senate in 1967. He also won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1975. He died six years later in Milan, 1981. In 1927 he fell in love with a married woman who he nicknamed Mosca which means fly. It is believed that this was borrowed from Ben Jonson s Volpone. Montale stayed devoted to her until her husband died in 1958. They were married until Mosca died five years later. He also met an American author named Irma Brandeis who influences some of his work, which mostly revolves around unattainable love. She made him feel better through the Fascist years, so when they became separated, he used what he was feeling and put it into poetry. Montale wrote his poetry during an era where the theme amor de lonh, love from afar, was popular, which is also tied to donna angelicata or angelic lady. Donna angelicata is mostly tied to communication attempts to an allusive lover. His poems are often really personal, including a lady figure with many names, some of which including Gertu, Liuba, Vixen, Dora and others. Some of the influencers for his poems include Plato, Shakespeare, Petrarch and The Bible. His poems almost always deal with fragmentary experience, the meaning of which is either obsucr or possibly, terrifyingly absent. In Montales Any Hope of Ever Seeing you Again , the last five lines portray strong imagery, which makes the author maybe be destitute or could be seen as the author carrying some kind of burden. In line six the poem contains descriptive words such as distorted and tenuous which Convey deep emotion (Bella). The use of these words create a depressing aura in this ... The most common parasite found in dogs is the roundworm (Ascaris Lumbricoides). Roundworm will typically affect puppies before they are born when in the womb, or after they are born when drinking their mother s milk. When drinking the mother s milk the puppy is actually consuming larvae of the parasite in the form of very small eggs. Roundworm can only be transmitted passively. Even so, it is the misplaced identification with gritty urban heroes of books and screen by these ordinary suburban boys that situates them into a place where Greasy Lake becomes the baptismal. Trouble begins with the trio makes a far more miscalculated misidentification: that of thinking that a car parked up at Greasy Lake belongs to their friend Tony Lovett. As boys not to mention some more mature and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator, Jeff, and Digby do not immediately flee in the face of the possibility of homicide. Instead, they turn their attention to the greasy character s girlfriend, now alone and vulnerable and utterly at the mercy of the skyrocketing levels of adrenaline and testosterone shooting through the still not fully developed bodies of the three apparently quite average, ordinary and relatively harmless suburbanites. It is not the kind of mercy that is desirable as the three move to work out their mixture of aggression and sexuality on the girl. The arrival of another car quickly causes a dispersal of the would be gangbangers, however. The narrator chooses to escape by driving straight into the lake where the night just gets weirder. What should his brief underwater getaway bring him into contact with but an actual dead body which sends him scurrying away in terror? The dispersal results in the congealing of shared boyhood nightmare as the trio manage to meet up again in the woods, hidden from the suddenly gazing eye of reconstituted greasy character. Some researchers such as Nuzzo and Traill, who work at Imperial College London and are published in the African Journal of Ecology, feel as though not enough research has been done on the topic. Nuzzo and Traill studied data from the years of 1960 to 2011. They conclude, ...[we] cannot draw any strong conclusions... this research emphasizes the need for population level monitoring programmes, (Nuzzo, Marcella C, and Lochran W. Traill 253). Conservationists such as Michael Paul Nelson choose to evaluate the issue through an ethical stance. Nelson introduces an important idea within conservation, consequentialism. Nelson states, consequentialism is... the end justifies the means... Consequentialist thinking is common in conservation, (Nelson, Michael Paul, et al. 303). This idea must be taken into consideration when trying to solve the issue. Other conservationists are strongly against trophy hunting, such as Peter Lindsey. Lindsey works at the University of Pretoria and Panthera, a conservation association dedicated to lions. In one of his studies, Trophy Hunting of African Lions... , Lindsey et al. studies data from the government of South Africa and data on lion hunting quotas and legal hunting areas. Lindsey et al. produce a firm opinion; ...there remain several problems associated with the negative management of lion hunting which may perpetuate negative impacts, (Lindsey, Peter Andrew, et al. 9). In another of Lindsey s articles, he discusses the differences between wild trophy hunting as opposed to captive bred lions being trophy hunting. Lindsey summarizes, Some trophy hunting organizations...differentiate between the shooting of captive bred lions and that of wild lions, (Lindsey, P., et al. 20). When an individual is young, it is advantageous to undergo new experiences and meet wonderful people, but it is also possible to be taken advantage and make silly mistakes. In the novel Northanger Abbey, Jane Austen accurately portrays how the process of maturing is bittersweet. A brief synopsis of this novel is that the main character, Catherine Morland, gets invited to accompany her neighbors in Bath and meets the love of her life, Henry Tilney. These two characters face a few minor obstacles along the way due to her adolescence but they end up getting married, despite their differences in fortune. • 52. Essay On Pascal s Wager In this essay I will discuss the ontological problem of the existence of God and discuss Pascal s Wager and how it solves the issue. The problem with the proof of the existence of God is that it is not something we will know for sure until our dying day. We can speculate and bet on his existence and feel his presence but at this point it is just that, only a bet. This wager is famous for opening up minds to look at the problem in a bigger picture. The problem with the existence of God is not in the answer but instead in the question. Pascal is responsible for refocusing this discussion on God to the bigger problem of the existential context of humanlife. In a way this can all be broken down to very black and white terms Either God is or he is not. But upon looking further we realize that this is a much bigger issue with many grey areas than something as simple as is or is not . Pascal spends much of his argument refocusing discussion and putting appropriate context on different situations. The question of God is a much more pressing question in relation to human mortality. We are much more inclined to draw toward or push away from faith when we are facing unfavorable situations out of our control. We tend to look harder at the meaning of life and our moral values when we are found staring death straight in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later in his piece he brings up another solution offered by individuals he calls the delayed strategy . Meaning one will live as an agnostic or atheist for X amount of years and then decide to believe once he approaches death. The issue with this approach is that you do not know how long you have left to live. You could die in a car crash tomorrow or you could live to be 105 years old. So the prospect of delaying a life of belief baffles me. The fact that so many are willing to risk their spiritual connection and the possibility of an infinite life is insane to ...
