This document analyzes the use of the "digital-analogue" metaphor used by Kenya's Jubilee Coalition political parties in the 2013 election campaigns. It discusses how metaphors can transmit ideological stances that shape public attitudes. The study examines campaign coverage between December 2012 and March 2013 using video clips and focus groups to interpret the conceptual meaning behind the digital-analogue metaphor. The research found the metaphor conveyed conceptual ideologies that characterized Jubilee's campaign messaging.

How do political elites prepare the civilian population for participation in violent conflict? We empirically investigate this question using village-level data from the Rwandan Genocide in 1994. Every Saturday before 1994, Rwandan villagers had to meet to work on community infrastructure, a practice called Umuganda. This practice was highly politicized and, in the years before the genocide, regularly used for spreading political propaganda. To establish causality, we exploit cross-sectional
variation in meeting intensity induced by exogenous weather fluctuations. We find that an additional rainy Saturday resulted in a five percent lower civilian participation rate in genocide violence. These results pass a number of indirect tests of the exclusion restriction as well as other robustness checks and placebo tests.
An Appraisal Of Nigeria’s Democratic Consolidation And Economic Development: ...inventionjournals
After years of military and authoritarian rule, great expectations accompanied the resumption of
civilian rule in Nigeria in May 1999. For a country that has suffered severe deterioration in its economy and
politics over the fifty years of military rule, the assumption that a civilian rule would herald a dawn of peace
and a deepening of democratic values and norms in the society was understandable. This paper sets out to
analytically x-ray the country’s political cum economic penchant and to ascertain to what degree its democratic
principles have been consolidated upon from the inception of its democratic rule. The paper finds that
consolidating democracy in Nigeria is tough and challenging but not entirely hopeless. Nigeria is a country with
thriving democratic spirit but is ruled by tyrants and despots who have both the inclination and resources to

Liberal democracy all over the world is a welcome phenomenon. In every modern society the game of politics is influenced tremendously by the elite class that projects the political culture which could make or mar democracy, as a result of the activities of the political parties. The adoption of western democracy is a mixed bag of blessing and catastrophes in the body politics of the country. Political parties are primarily aimed at primitive accumulation of wealth. Where, “the end justifies the means” . Poverty is associated with political conflict in developing countries, but evidence of individual grievances translating into dissent among the poor is mixed. We analyze survey data from 40 developing nations to understand the determinants radicalism, support for violence, and participation in legal anti-regime actions as petitions, demonstrations, and strikes. In particular, we examine the role of perceived political and economic inequities. Our findings suggest that individuals who feel marginalized tend to harbor extremist resentments against the government, but they are generally less likely to join collective political movements that aim to instigate regime changes. This potentially explains the commonly-observed pattern in low- and middle-income countries whereby marginalized groups, despite their political attitudes and high-levels of community engagement, are more difficult to mobilize in nation-wide movements. We also find that arenas for active political participation (beyond voting) are more likely to be dominated by upper-middle income groups who are committed, ultimately, to preserving the status quo. Suppressing these forms of political action may thus be counterproductive, if it pushes these groups towards more radical preferences. Finally, our findings suggest that the poor, in developing nations, may be caught in a vicious circle of self-exclusion and greater marginalization.

E-politics from the citizens’ perspective. The role of social networking tool...Przegląd Politologiczny
The progress of civilization, supported by the development of new technologies, has led
to a series of social, economic and political changes. The information society, in its expectations and
through access to knowledge, has significantly affected a change in the model of democracy, causing
a kind of return to the original forms of communication in citizen-government relations. This has been
accompanied by a shift of social and civic activism from the real to the virtual world. In literature,
the use of information and communication technologies in the democratic system is named electronic
democracy. One of its forms is e-politics, which is implemented at several levels: institutional, system
and civil. A good example of the last type are the new social movements that in recent years have had
a significant impact on politics.
The basic research problem in this paper concerns e-politics from the citizens’ perspective, through
the activities of the new social movements, especially of a political nature. The main research goal
is therefore to present the role of social networking tools in influencing citizens and their subsequent
activities that have triggered changes in the political system. The methods used in the paper are case
study and comparative analysis.
Elections in Nigeria and Foreign Democratic Assistance, 2015 -2019 Key Lesson...ijtsrd
This paper focuses on elections and foreign democracy assistance to Nigeria in 2015-2019 Key lessons and challenges. The study combined historical and descriptive research methods. While the historical design provided a guide into Nigeria’s democratic journey, the descriptive method helped us explain clearly these impeding factors that have hindered foreign democratic assistance from falling short of the desired standard in the country. The data was gathered through secondary sources. The realistic theory of change by Anderson, a modification of Carols 1972 change model theory, was used as the framework of analysis. The study revealed that 1 Nigeria received democratic assistance between 2015 and 2019 from the US, UK, EU, and other major international partners engaging in democratic promotion. 2 In spite of billions of dollars received as foreign democratic assistance, her political development has remained gloomy. 3 International promoters of democracy in Nigeria have clearly defined objectives with their philanthropic and international assistance for democratic transition, but in a bid to promote democracy, in the context of globalization promoting a free market economy and favourable investment opportunities for their multinational corporations. Lastly, the result shows some key lessons and implications that represent the immediate conclusions and recommendations of this study, such as that, for FDA to be successful, democratisation processes need to be driven from within and supported by at least some key domestic actors, achieve a balance between different goals, connect with the grass roots level, incorporate civil society, and so on. Thus, the election violence, rigging, manipulation, and imposition of candidates that characterised Nigerian elections do not in any way relate to or correlate with foreign democratic assistance objectives. The study investigated voter education by the Independence National Electoral Commission and Political Awareness among residents of South – South Nigeria. The essence was to ascertain the level at which INEC’s voters education messages have been able to promote political awareness among residents to the South – South Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria.Survey research method was used for the study while questionnaire was adopted as data collection instrument. The 30.221.345 residents of South – South Geopolitical Zone were used as the population of the study from where a sample size of 385 was drawn using the Australian National Bureau of Static online Sample Calculator. The multi staff Sampling Technique was used for the study while simple percentage were deployed in analyzing he collected data. Based on the analysis of data, findings revealed that INEC’s voter education materials are not very comprehensive to majority of the respondents. INEC’s voter education messages have not significantly promoted respondents knowledge of the practices that could lead to voiding of votes. Based on the finding, the study recommended that INEC should repackage its voter education materials in such manner that it will be well understood by the various categories of the citizens such as the blind, deaf and dumb, illiterates as men as the literates. INEC’s voter education messages should target the promotion of the knowledge of electoral act among the residents and knowledge of voting procedure in elections and how voiding at votes could be prevented. Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.
