Final Three Crusades Essay
Catholicism is a religion based upon the commandments instilled by Jesus Christ Son of God.
The final three crusades were uncontrolled by the pope and led to rape, theft, pillaging, a dark
past that has shaped the future of Catholicism today. The Roman Catholic crusades where
Catholic wars started to try and regain control over Jerusalem (the holy land), and to expand the
religion, the final three crusades however derived from the initial purpose and led to destruction.
The purpose of the research I have done over Roman Catholic Crusades is to get a deeper
understanding as to why the Catholic leaders used Crusades to expand their religious beliefs and
the outcomes both good and bad of the crusades. The first three crusades were initiated to... Show

The crusades where intended to spread Christianity Universally. However many of the actions
during the crusades did not promote peace as they where intended (William J.). Many Europeans
feeling the need to join the cause in crusades, joined the cause with nothing but wooden crosses,
many people abandoned their homes to join on the journey. Crusades left many people dead in
the Middle East. Jerusalem being the major goal of conquest of the crusaders in the end many of
the crusades failed or simply turned back (Brown, Bryan). Europeans used Crusades to expand
Christianity. The Crusades where considered unsuccessful. Many of them brought tragedy to
local Christians, which was part of the reason of the failure in the crusades. The crusades
however did leave some practices instilled in the later religions that where to be made. Through
these crusades a lot of the new religions adapted practices that are now influential in there
religious practices (William E.). Emilie Gogalak gives us an interesting out look of how crusades
brought together many faiths. She also gives us a belief that maybe the crusades where not
sparked for religious beliefs but simply for power and money (Emilie

The Jim Crow Laws were established in the 1800s. The Jim Crow Laws enforced racial
discrimination and segregation. They were in place until 1965. However, according Michelle
Alexander the Jim Crow laws have taken new forms. Alexander talks about the war on drugs,
legalized discrimination, mass incarnation and more. One form of the new Jim Crow takes is

The Federal Bureau Of Prisons
Healthcare is a big topic no matter how you view it, but when looking at it from the point of a
person who is in prison, it takes on a whole new view. Those who are in prison have federal and
state laws that say that the prisons must provide them with medical facilities for their healthcare
needs. This paper will identify a governmental agency that regulates the healthcare that is provided
to prisoners in an institution within the United States, along with the foundation of such an agency
and who regulates the licenses, accreditation, certifications, and authorization for employment for
those who work within one of these facilities.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is an agency that was created on May 14, 1930 and
approved of by then president Herbert Hoover. Its main headquarters is in Washington, D.C. The
BOP is a subdivision of the United States Justice Department and is responsible for the
administration of the federal prison system. Its sole purpose is to provide more open minded and
compassionate care to those who are federal inmates within the United States prison system. This
agency is also responsible for providing medically needed health care to inmates in agreement with
federal and state laws. One of the most negative aspects that the BOP is responsible for is carrying
out all judicially mandated federal executions, including the lethal injection of inmates who have
been sentenced to death for a crime they have

Technology And The Human Computer Interface
There are certain technology programs that are emerging in the software industry that have key
uses. These current technologies are those that surround the human computer interface. As a
software engineer, I will use this paper to describe the term Haptic Feedback, its key uses and why
it is needed. In addition, I will compare the various types of human memory mentioning their impact
on the human computer interface. I will also give a detailed description of the potential outcomes of
not making use of consistency in the human computer interface, summarize and explain the steps of
user centric design process and the role of human motion in the human computer interface.
Haptic Feedback Haptic can be defined as the science of applying the touch sensation as well as
control to guide human interactions with the computer applications. This is done using the
special devices such as data gloves and joysticks to enable users to receive computer application
feedback in form of a felt body part sensation, especially the hand. In that regard, it can be
deemed that Haptic Feedback is the feedback that users derive from the interaction with computer
applications that is only felt, not heard or seen. The key uses of Haptic Feedback are in the image
outlines delineated by the feel sensation in a way like object simulation in a location near the user.
In this way, it can be used in the training of individuals to perform tasks that require hand and eye

Many people begin to spend money on many products to enhance themselves to feel more
beautiful. We tend to try to hide the imperfections on our body to conform to society s rules on
what makes someone more beautiful than one another. These things include covering up skin
with make up to hide the pimples and wearing clothing that cover up parts of the skin that we
may not want other people to view. Also straightening the hair and painting our nails to cover the
imperfections that society tends to puts on us. This cause us to start changing into someone to
please how the society views us as a whole. However as we continue to develop as individuals we
tend to say that beauty is only skin deep. The truth is that everyone is different or unique in their
own way and if you can overlook a person physical appearance and look deep down into
recognizing a person inner qualities you will find that beauty is more than what meets the eye.
Beauty will always be in the eye of the beholder because everyone sees something beautiful in
every individual. True beauty comes from within and you should not judge a book by its cover
because that book may be the beautiful inside. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it is very

Essay about Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
After reading explications of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, a student is likely to come away with
the impression that the Franklin is the critics favorite punching bag. To the average reader in the
modern English speaking world, the Franklin comes across as surprisingly fair minded and level
headed, noteworthy as the man kind and inventive enough to resolve the marriage cycle with a tale
of decency and openness. The critics, however, often depict the Franklin as a man primarily
concerned with upward mobility, finding in his tale a number of remarks intended to win over the
nobility and subtly assert his own claim to a kind of nobility. The contrast between the fawning
Franklin of certain critical approaches and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marxist critics look for social and economic themes in a work, ones of which the author was
unaware because the authors own consciousness is affected by the system of production in which
he or she lived (157). This critical stance is particularly fitting when one approaches the Canterbury
Tales: Chaucer s conscious emphasis on social class, combined with a modern reader s lack of
familiarity with the economic conditions of Chaucer s work, requires almost any explicator of
Chaucer s work to indulge, to some degree, in Marxist criticism.
In her essay The Franklin as Dorigen, Susan Crane blends Marxist and feminist approaches to
point out links between the Franklin and the heroine of his tale. The heroine of romance, she notes,
occupies an insecure position in society. Noble by birth, and therefore superior to the common run
of people, she is nevertheless still a woman, in a society which marginalizes women (Crane 238
239). The superior/subordinate position of Dorigen, Crane says, is an echo of the Franklin s own
unclear status as a possible member of the gentlemanly class. Like the woman of nobility, the
Franklin stands at the boundary between authority and submission (240).
For Crane, a key element in the Franklin s choice of tale is his role as vavasour. Small land
holders of this sort often appear in Old French romances, depicted as peaceable, hospitable men
disinclined to

The Importance Of Revenge In William Shakespeare s Hamlet
Who ever thought acting out revenge would be so difficult. In the story, Hamlet, we have a young
man who is seeking revenge for the death of his father. The person responsible his death was
Hamlet s uncle, Claudius. Hamlet contemplates killing Claudius many times throughout the play.
There is much speculation as to why Hamlethesitated, and why he didn t just killClaudius as
quickly as possible. Hamlet wants to ensure he did it right and that it was a righteous killing.
Hamlet had every reason to be angry with Claudius, for he murdered his father. Hamlet,
throughout almost the entire play, was completely dedicated to killing Claudius. But, Hamlet
need proof to accomplish his task. Deep down, Hamlet is a good man. This does not mean that
he was perfect, nor does it mean that he was incredibly righteous in every aspect. But, he was a
good man because he always examined what it was he was doing, or what he was planning. This
explains why Hamlet contemplated killing Claudius. Hamlet is unsure if he should kill his uncle;
would he be a thought of a coward. Should he partake in the death of his uncle? He examined these
things to ensure that he went about vengeance in the most righteous manner possible for him. It
was not merely a murder for revenge, but a murder for the kingdom. It was not for Hamlet alone,
but for the society that had been harmed by the existence and the actions of Claudius. Hamlet
understood this, and needed all his time of investigation to clearly establish

Mr Collins Pride And Prejudice Humor Essay
In Pride and Prejudice, humor is used to highlight absurd situations and social blunders. Austen
uses humor as a tool to show the readers what behavior is acceptable and what is not. Behaving
above your rank is one of these social faux pas. Mr. Collins, Sir William Lucas, and Caroline
Bingley are all examples of how not to act. Mr. Collins is constantly trying to improve his social
situation by using his connection to Lady Catherine, Sir William takes himself too seriously, and
Caroline always tries to elevate herself above Elizabeth, even though they are of the same station.
The characters who provide the most humor throughout the book are the ones who act higher in
status than they are in reality. Mr. Collins provides a great deal of humor... Show more content on

Whenever Darcy is around, she is by his side, trying to gain his affections. Elizabeth remarks that

There is a complete contrast between them Caroline is completely engaged in the conversation,
while Darcy is not paying any attention. Her attempts to draw his attention to her are funny
because they are met with such indifference. Caroline s increasing desperation also contributes to
the humor of her character. She is constantly trying to highlight her own supposed superiority by
referencing Elizabeth s relations and making disparaging comments about her appearance. When
they meet Elizabeth during her trip with the Gardiners, Caroline remarks that she looks very ill
and that she is grown so brown and coarse (181). Darcy replies that he believes Elizabeth to be the
handsomest woman of his acquaintance and then leaves. Caroline has finally forced him to say

Caroline has only succeeded in alienating Darcy. Her attempts to improve her social status have
completely backfired. This irony, as well as the juxtaposition between Caroline and Darcy during

The Theme Of Bondage And Freedom
The Theme of Bondage and Freedom in African American Literature Shayla Carew Liberty
University Author Note: Shayla Carew, Master s of Teaching and Learning English program,
Liberty University. Contact: scarew@liberty.edu Abstract Black history is significant not only as a
part of the black community, but as a critical part of American history for all races and genders.
Because of the importance of the history of African Americans, Black History Month is celebrated
annually. During this special time of remembrance, people of different races take time to reflect on
the historical events that not only shaped the history of African Americans, but the history of
America. There are a variety of methods used in comprehending black history. Reading African
American literature allows readers to gain a higher quality understanding of the events that shaped
black history. This paper will closely examine the theme of bondage and freedom, which is a
prominent theme in African American literature that speaks volumes about black history.
Introduction Due to recent events, black history has been frequently discussed. For many African
Americans, the racial tensions being exemplified today bring back painful memories in the history
of black people. An enormous fraction of black history involves the subject of bondage and freedom
the African slaves experienced. Understanding how far the African American people have come is

The Liberation Of Women During The 18th And The 19th Century
Uprising of Women in Psychology Sydney Alan Brackin University of Montevallo Abstract This
paper shows the liberation of women in the 18th and the 19th Century, showing the different waves
of feminist in psychology. It s important to remember the gradual changes and actions displayed. I
choose to finalize this paper with Christine Ladd Franklin. She was the first women to complete the
necessary requirements for a PhD. Her contributions to mathematics and psychology paved the way
for other women to succeed. Uprising of Women in Psychology Women as Other Throughout
history women have not been given proper recognition for their insight in the field of psychology.
They were simply labeled as Other. Simone de Beauvoir, philosopher examines the concepts of
woman and in relation to the larger concepts of humanity. She concludes that women s status is not
simply a matter of definition, but a fundamental way of thinking that has political consequences.
What is a Woman? This question may seem to be rudimentary, but when thought about women are
the foundation for life. Women are more than their uterus, or an imperfect man. It was believed that
women were made from man s image, Adam and Eve. This alone gives rise to men and lessens
women as an individual. Man cannot think of himself without the other. Without women there
would be no man. In the most primitive societies there is duality between the self and the other.

Differences Of Disneyland And Disneyland
Families have different preferences to what they like either fantasy or real animal experience.
Some families like to bring back childhood experiences at Disneyland. While others seem to like
the adventures at SeaWorld and getting that 1 on 1 experience with wildlife. Both amusement parks
are alike with one another because both parks offer an amazing shows and spectaculars to see, but
both of those parks are not the same thing.
Disneyland is referred to the happiest place on Earth because children s favorite Disney
characters come to life. Kids and adults can experience a magical day at Disneyland taking
pictures with the famous Mickey Mouse and watch their parades around the park through out the
day. At night time families watch the amazing firework show. Even though Disneyland gives
families to enjoy Disney characters in life it s costly if you have big families. Just by staying at the
Disneyland resort is expensive just for a couple of days spent there. There are several fun rides to
go on all over the park, but with those fun rides are very long lines that take ages to advance
closer to the rides. Once upon a favorite ride, it seems that it doesn t last long enough for the wait.
With, the food is very pricy inside the park as well as Disney souvenirs and clothing. Its highly
recommended to eat outside the park and buy any clothing or souvenirs at stores outside of
Disneyland. Other than those reasons Disneyland gives an experience that could never be forgotten

Negative Effects Of Violent Video Games
September 10, 2017
Writing Assignment #1
Blair Baugher
Introduction The issue of whether or not violent video games encourage children, and teens to be
violent is a heavily debated issue. There are many people who believe that violent video games
DO cause violence in children, and teens, while there are also many people who believe that
violent video games DO NOT cause violence in children, and teens. The relevance of this topic
ties into psychology by further examining how people learn, and the techniques that are prevalent
in how they do so. By stating that violent behavior can arise simply from playing a violent video
game, one is relying on the notion that people will always act in a matter that is reflective of what
they are surrounded by.
Summary
Through significant research, there is evidence that violence has risen in America. Some argue
that this is because children and teens are spending more, and more time playing violent video
games. Though there is ample evidence to prove that playing violent video games can have
negative effects on someone, there is no evidence to directly show that the correlation between the
two rising numbers is related. In the reading, Steven F. Gruel, who argued before the supreme
court, believes that playing, and or watching violent video games, causes children to act violently.
The cause, Gruel believes, isn t directly the video games, but the effect they leave on the children.
Children are spending more of their time playing video

An empire is a political order with two important characteristics (190). It has to have a rule over
a significant number of people all having different cultural identity and separate territories. Also
empires have cultural diversity and territorial flexibility was not only their unique character, but
also their central role in history (190). Harari says, The truth is that empire has been the world s
most common form of political organization for the last 2,500 years (191). These characteristics

by just giving the foundation of a type of government. The difference between an empire and
nation, our modern world, is that empires typically didn t work because it was not possible to
rule effectively over a large number of people. Also empires were used for destruction,

American Superheroes Influence On Society During The 1940s
The 1940s were known as the golden age of comics. Many superheroes recognizable in
mainstream popular culture today originated during this time, becoming favorites of the young and
old alike. Unsurprisingly, superheroes usually experience their greatest success during times of
transition and uncertainty, such as America moving from economic crisis into armed conflict
(Bainbridge 746). While this essay will be focusing on the overall influence of all American
Superheroes on society during the 1940s, a specific focus will be placed on two of the most well
known created heroes: Supermanand Captain America. Both Superman and Captain America first
emerged as the nation was coming out of the Great Depression and headed into World War II
(Bainbridge 746). Therefore, protagonists like these two as well as comic books in general were
crucial during the 1940s because they acted as lighthearted distractions from real world issues,
devices of cultural influence as well as a big source of earning for publishers.

The Plight Of The RMS Lusitania Summary
The Plight of the RMS Lusitania It is an overcast evening, yet sunlight pours through a hole in
the layers upon layers of clouds. There is a small party on board the RMS Lusitania, and the
Cunard Line s captain assigned for the vessel, William Turner, is standing in uniform, facing
towards America. He raises a glass of port to a safe voyage, and the whole room follows suit.
The chamber orchestra begins to play a fast paced, lighthearted tune. You are a war
correspondent, and you believe that something is astray with Will Turner. 30 minutes into the
festivities, the captain disappears. Nobody notices but you, of course, because you vowed not to
drink a drop of spirit in your life at 12 years, and have held true to that promise for 24 years
running. You can t help but notice, however, that he left quite abruptly, in a queer manner, and
without pretense. Prior to this, he was nervous, checking his pocket watch frequently. You didn t

Frederik Schiller s Letters On The Aesthetic Education Of Man
The role of art in human life has been studied by several philosophers throughout time. Frederik
Schiller (1795 1805), in his Letters On the Aesthetic Education of Man develops the theory of the
drives to explain the fragmentation of the human being and places art in a reconciliatory role
between man s personal nature and the community. The present essay will discuss in some detail
Schiller s theory of the drives, placing the main focus on the role and importance of the play drive
in humanlife, to finally discuss the features in Schiller s theory of play that help elucidate the role
of art in human life.
According to Schiller, men in modern society experiment a conflict between the cultivation of
individual talent and the welfare of their community as a single being. This conflict results in an
alienation of the being and its consequent fragmentation. Taking this into account, Schiller states
there are two aspects of human nature to be considered: the sense drive and the form drive. The

For this reason it is important to keep the process integrated vertically and horizontally (Le Pree,

department to another, keep an organization safe and in business. By simply integrating these
emergency or incident responses with internal and external parties will help processors cope
when a crisis occurs. Resourcing the Aftermath In the event of a major disaster it is critical for
Phoenix to identify the resources necessary to meet the needs of displaced workers, injured

Evaluation Of A Research Review
Systematic Research Review

NR 505: Advanced Research Methods
September 2016
Systematic Research Review As advancements are made in science and technology that relates
to the care of patients, it is critical for nurses to be aware of the treatments that have been proven
to be evidence based. Systematic research reviews (SRR) are considered to have the highest
ranking or level of evidence falling under level 1 evidence for reliability, validity, and least amount
of error (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2015, p.607). The aim of this paper is to critique the chosen
SRR related to core temperature obtainment in children, relevance of the research problem to
nursing practice, rigor of the research found in the SRR to include levels of evidence and designs
of included studies, the clarity of findings, summarized findings in the SRR, and the implications
for practice.
Relevance of the Research Problem The proper yet least invasive route to perform the measurement
of a core temperature in children has been an ongoing debate. Common methods or routes include
axillary or in the armpit area, oral, rectal, tympanic, and temporal. Proper temperature measurement
with an accurate result is important for diagnosis and treatment, especially in febrile children. False
positive measurements can lead to extensive and unnecessary diagnostic testing while false
negatives can lead to under treatment in a fragile population, which is why the

1. I would expect the two variables to be related because it is reasonable to hypothesize that the
stress level of an individual is directly linked to their work, in which is where most of their day

By taking the the list of occupations at face value, I would assume or expect that individuals with
roles in management, business or administration would self report a lower stress level compared to
their peerswith occupations that may require a substantial amount of physical labour and manual

However, this is minor and the values are not too far apart from what people in the Business

Summary Of Sammy Yatim
Sammy Yatim was an 18 years old boy who got on a streetcar late during the night of July 26,
2013. Mark Rogan from Toronto Life describes what happened that night; four girls boarded and
sat at the back of the car near Yatim. He proceeded to unzip his pants and expose himself, and a
switchblade to the girls, causing them to scream. This caused a panic in all the other passengers,
and they began to exit the streetcar despite Yatim s demands to remain where they were. Once
exiting the streetcar many people began to call 911, and the policearrived on scene shortly after, this
is when the conflicting issue began. When ConstableJames Forcillo arrived Yatim was near the
front exit of the streetcar, he immediately drew his weapon and shouted for Yatim to Drop the
knife , resulting in Yatim insulting Forcillo. Once Forcillo realized that Yatim would now calm
down, he asked for his partner to call for an officer who had a Taser, since not all police officers
in Toronto are allowed to carry them. This is the first issue in this case. If Forcillo had a Taser the
situation could have resulted in a better ending. When Yatim disobeyed orders by stepping towards
the exit of the streetcar, Forcillo shot his gun 3 times causing Yatim to fall to the ground. At this
point other police officers entered the streetcar and Forcillo shot 6 more times. The officer with the
Taser then arrived and noticed that Yatim was still struggling and holding the knife, so he Tasered
him. The ending to this

Children Care Options For The Philippines
The country I have chosen is the Philippines, I ve chosen this country because I believe it to be
one of the most intriguing places to learn about. I also have some prior knowledge to this
country and would love to learn more about their child care options, and what the difference is
there than it is here in the US. The Philippines is pretty standard to the USA practices when it
comes to looking for care, nannies, babysitters, etc. They have a website called Great Au Pair,
on this website they have divided up the different child care options easy to access. This website
is very accessible because they make it simple to find exactly what you re looking for. Child care
wise, they have a range of services from; child care, nannies, au pair, and babysitters. There is
also links you can choose from finding caregivers by country, nationality, and language. This
website is very similar to our country s care.com. I ve come across many preschools in the
Philippines that the list doesn t seem to end, it s very accessible as looking for care, nannies, and

s very similar to USA practices because we also offer many public schools as they do. There are
many basic child care options for mothers in the workforce, they are informal arrangements which
is where children are provided care at home, outside the home by either of their parents, relatives, or

free enterprise. Financial markets have come to supply non financial corporations with mechanisms
for managing their risks and for comparing and evaluating diverse investment opportunities in a
highly complex global economy (Cindin, 2008). However, despite the lifetimes it took to build our
financial institutions, bad luck and careless risk management have jeopardized careers and

This is the result of commercial and investment banks lending vast sums for housing purchases
and consumer loans to borrowers who are ill equipped to repay. As consumers begin to default
on their loans, banks are realizing the horrendous fact that they have no tangible cash to carry
out business procedures. These profound errors in risk management are taking disastrous tolls
on the economy. The U.S. economy is now facing four serious problems. The first problem is
that consumers are cutting back on spending in an effort to try and repay their loans. Presently,
consumers and banks are trying to reduce the amount of money borrowed in relation to their
assets or income, a process known as de leveraging (Francis, 2008). This will cause a recession
since consumers make up seventy percent of all spending. The inventory of unsold homes is now
large, so the demand for housing and construction will be low for several years. Other businesses
will also begin to reduce the production of goods in order to keep pace with the decrease in
demand. The International Monetary fund is forecasting the United States gross domestic product
to grow by just .5% in 2008 and .6% in 2009. The problem of consumer spending is actually the
least of the economy s worries. The second dilemma that the economy faces is the increase in the
number of defaults on mortgage payments and consumer loans. Large quantities of consumers were
purchasing homes in belief that the property

With this Daisy see s that Tom will always have his wealth to support her whenever it is needed.
To respond to the arguments Gatsby made, Tom first argues that Daisy Doesn t know what she s
doing (pg 138). This argument made by Tom is important in his argument since saying that
about Daisy is almost a snap back into reality for Daisy. By her hearing what Tom said, Daisy is
able to realized that maybe she really does not know what she is doing by having any thoughts
about leaving for Gatsby while she is married to Tom. After that being said, Tom goes on to
expose Gatsby and his past secret life and how I picked him for a bootlegger the first time I saw
him, and I wasn t far wrong (pg 140). This argument made by Tom is his attempt to show how
people whose wealth is new money, which is what Gatsby qualifies under due to him earning his
money through the new bootlegging business, is not as respected as his own wealth coming
from old money, which is what Tom qualifies under since he was borned and raised in a wealthy
family and has always had a source of wealth to live off from. By Tom showing Daisy the bad
connotation Gatsby s wealth contains, he would want Daisy to realize how she is both better and
safer off with Tom who is wealthy with old money and will always be wealthy rather than Gatsby
who earned his wealth in a shady way and might not always have a wealthy

To avoid such attacks the system should be resilient to external Trojan attacks. This paper

classification and finally deals with the techniques which are available to detect and counter the

growth in the production of electronic devices. These devices have surely increased the
accessibility and comfort but they are also subject to security issues. The increase in security of
such electronic facility has been a necessity with the introduction of hardware circuits which
tamper their behavior. A Hardware Trojan is a malicious, undesired, intentional modification of an
electronic circuit or design, resulting in the undesired behaviour of an electronic device when in

the physical structure of the IC which can render the IC to be either functionless or malfunction.
Such conditions can result in disastrous outcomes when it comes to applications of high level
security and military usage. A hardware Trojan can either use the existing signals in an IC and
corrupt or alter them, hence damaging the data and commands and in turn resulting in improper
execution of the hardware. It can also

Summary Of The Assassination Of Abraham Lincoln
What was the most significant truth you learned from this book and what makes it so
significant? How will you apply this new knowledge to your future? Abraham Lincoln supported
the Civil war as he felt that it was necessary to prevent secession of the Southern States, even
though the states had the right to secede. He was against the institution of slavery expanding and
he grew up with a family that attended a Baptist church that opposed slavery. However, it is
uncertain as to what Lincoln s views on African Americans truly were as he appealed to his voters,
white men. The most significant truth I learned from Killing Lincoln was that there are horrible

John Wilkes Booth assassinated Abraham Lincolnwhile he was unarmed and sitting next to his
wife watching a play. To most American citizens he was a crazed murderer without a
conscience, but to others, such as the countless southern sympathizers as a result of the Civil
War, he was a martyr for their cause. At the time of Lincoln s assassination the war was
essentially over, Booth killed because he and his fellow southern sympathizers were sore losers.
He did not murder to satisfy a sick perversion; he killed to atone for the sins of the union. Booth
went to church, he was well educated, he was an actor, he had charisma, all of the traits of
someone who should not have been a felon, but he was. He was not perfect, he was racist, and he

the potential for great actions of differing morals. He was politically motivated to assassinate
Lincoln, he was not insane. He believed that the best country in the world was the United States

he made great efforts to enact changes in radical ways. However, I believe that the killing of

Abstract Lysozyme is an enzyme found in both tears and saliva. Each time we blink our eyes, our
eyelids wash tears over the surface of our eyes. In addition, our mouth is continually producing
saliva. A spectrophotometer set to 450nm was used to measure the effect of lysozymeon bacteria.
The absorbance or optical density was measured for each sample at specific times with a total
measuring time of twenty minutes. In this experiment, it was shown that lysozyme inhibits
microbial growth in saliva and synthetic tears and in lysozyme standard control. The results showed

The Collapse Of The Housing Bubble Collapse
Introduction The following essay will thoroughly examine the severe economic downturn of
2008, formerly known as the housing bubble collapse. We will mainly focus our discussion on
the effects the financial crisis had on Canada and the U.S and examine why both countries were
affected differently. Although the collapse of the housing bubble is the most identifiable cause,
it is extremely difficult to pinpoint one specific defining moment or event triggering the global
financial collapse. There are many factors involved, due to the complex nature of the financial
systems across the world, and this paper will delve in the key contributing variables that led to
this financial crises. To begin, a brief history recap of the financial crises in 2008 will be given.
Following that will be a breakdown of how the financial systems were set up in Canada and the
U.S. We will then, in detail, discuss the Canadian and the U.S financial markets, in particular,
the housing market and how each country was affected by the 2008 financial crisis. Lastly, we
will proceed to evaluate the overwhelming differences between Canada and the U.S; from their
core financial system to mortgages that allowed the Canadian market to remain excluded from
the dire consequences of the US market recession, which followed shortly after the financial
crisis. A Brief History of the 2008 Financial Collapse The 2008 financial collapse were both the

important and recognizable symbol of the genre. Rather than shooting within a studio set and
soundstage, most of the action is shot on location in New Mexico. Though shooting on location has
its drawbacks, it facilitates capturing the true grittiness of nature... Show more content on

3:10 to Yuma follows this tradition of the quest or captivity narrative, as the plot is structured
around getting Bed Wade on the 3:10 train heading to Yuma prison. As a notorious criminal and
murderer, if he makes it to Yuma he will be sentenced to death, intensifying the consequences.
The film follows the Classical Hollywood convention of using deadlines and appointments to
drive the film s narrative and plot. The goal of Dan Evans is to get him on the train or die trying.
The contracts states that Evans only needs to get Wade onto the train to receive his reward. The
film creates the sense of an epic journey from the Evans ranch to Contention, centred on the
building of the transcontinental railroad. The film s ending is an ambiguous one. Wade surrenders
himself and his weapons when boarding the train to Yuma. As the train takes off around the bend,
Wade whistles, summoning his trusted horse that gallops alongside the train. It is suggested that
Wade will escape as he has escaped from Yuma prison twice before. 3:10 to Yuma follows the
narrative strategy of an ambiguous ending typical of the genre. The hero either departs or is killed
at the end of the film. He does not, however, conform or assimilate to the dominate values of the
community. The hero holds to his individuality strongly to the bitter end. As Wade departs and
Evans dies,

To My Dear And Loving Husband By Elizabeth Bradstreet
Poem analysis term 3 2015 Topic: Love A question that is often asked by many people is why do
poets write? There is no definitive answer to the question, as not all poets write for the same
reason or are inspired to write for the same reason. Some write as a means of expressing their
feelings to an audience as they face hardships or exiting times in their life; other reasons can just
simply be a conglomeration of images, perspectives and ideas developed in their mind. With this
being said the overarching idea behind the greatest poems is to create a poem that people can
relate to, for not only in that time period, but for years to come, therefore creating a timeless piece
of art. One of the key components of creating such a piece is... Show more content on

The desired effect of this idea is to leave it open for interpretation and therefore creating a
response in the audience and a discussion of what the true message is that s hidden behind the
ink. The poem to my dear loving husband is generally thought to give the message that love is
everlasting, even after death. In the first stanza of the poem the author puts out a challenge to
other women to compare their love to hers as she states if ever wife is happy in a man, compare
with me, ye woman, if you can . This engages the reader to really see how their love or marriage
really does compare to what the author is saying. In the next stanza with the lines I prize thy
love more than whole mines of gold, or all the riches in the east doth hold . This is her saying
that her love is of much greater importance to her than that of wealth and power. In the final
stanza she talks of her love being a gift that she has been given and of which she doesn t believe
she deserves but is accepting and thankful for it anyway. In the poem How do I love thee the how
is really emphasised due to her only talking about how much she loves him without explaining why
through the entirety of the poem. From the very start of the poem the writer starts a list of all the
different ways she loves her husband or boyfriend. This, along with the use of the word

High alveolar ventilation brings more O2 into the alveoli, increasing O2 , and rapidly
eliminating CO2 from the lungs (for chemical abbreviations see Table 2). Partial pressure of
gases Dalton s law explains the partial pressure of a gas, which is the pressure exerted by a gas
within a mixture of gases independent of each gas in the mixture (Marieb, 2004). The partial
pressure of each gas is directly proportional to its percentage in the total mixture and in air is
determined by atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa (760 mmHg), 21% of this
air is oxygen, and the partial pressure of oxygen (PO2 ) in atmospheric air is: 21 Г— 101 = 21.2
kPa 100 Within the alveoli the PO2 is different to air because of enrichment in the air passages
(dead space) with CO2 and water vapour. Alveolar air contains much more CO2 and water vapour
and much less O2 and so makes a greater contribution to the near atmospheric pressure in the lungs,
then they do in air. This is due to: gas exchanges occurring in the lungs, humidification of air by
the conducting passages, mixing of gases in the dead space (contains air not involved in gaseous
exchange) between the nose and alveoli. In alveoli, PO2 averages only 13.2 kPa (100 mmHg).
Continuous consumption of O2 and production of CO2 in the cells means that there is a partial
pressure gradient both in the lungs and at the tissue level

Tinker V. Des Moines Independent School District Case Study
In 1969, three young activists walked into school and were told they could not symbolically
express themselves. Without these teens carrying out this simple act of rebellion, students today
would lack basic rights in the school place, as they would have no outlet outside of the home to
express their views. In order to understand Tinker v. Des Moines Independent SchoolDistrict one
must examine the history behind the case, analyze the case itself, and evaluate the impacts on
modern society.
To examine the history of a case that continues to affect students today, it is important to look at
how the discrepancy began starting with Mary Beth, John, and Christopher. The tumultuous 60s can
be described by Kelly Shackelford, a constitutional attorney, ... Show more content on

Mary Beth Tinker stepped back from civil rights briefly following the ruling of the case. The
article Tinker v. Des Moines School District mentions that Mary Beth went on to work with the
Veterans Administration after becoming a nurse and enjoyed helping war veterans in any way
possible. Later in life she became an anti war activist and continued to be a civil rights advocate.
John Tinker, her brother, did not refrain from activism but became even more involved as he
progressed through college. John also went on to assist third world countries affected by war or
embargos ( Tinker v. Des Moines School District: ). One final interesting fact was that Dan
Johnston, the attorney for John, Mary Beth, and Christopher, was invited to speak, years after the
decision, at Roosevelt High School, the same school he led the lawsuit against (Shackelford

Modern Tragedy Analysis
Is Modern Tragedy Truly Tragedy?
(A critique of Stephen King s inspired movie The Green Mile as it relates to Aristotle s Poetics)
Tragedy is an imitation, not of men, but of an action and of life, and life consists in action, and its
end is a mode of action, not a quality (Butcher). Aristotle says that tragedy has more to do with the
action of the plot than the characters themselves. Tragedy is best defined as a drama that
includes a clear plot line and a protagonist who has a character flaw that leads to his or her
downfall. Character flaws occur in many ways, for some it is excessive pride, for others it is just
the need to be kind to others and disregarding a person s own health. The major difference between
a tragedy and a comedy is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tragic hero, consequently, should be a man better than ourselves, but not perfect; and he
should suffer from a flaw which shows itself in some mistaken judgement or act resulting in his
downfall (Poetics Packet). While it may not seem like a flaw, Coffey s character flaw is that he
has some sort of supernatural healing power which, in a way, got him into the death row area of
prison to begin with. Coffey performs an act where he touches ill people and for whatever
reason, the person is cured, and Coffey coughs up insects that represent the negative things
leaving a person s body as the individual heals. As the movie wraps up, Paul and various other
guards are aware of John s innocence, yet there is no evidence so he will have to be put to death
regardless. Throughout the movie, men are put to death and the audience can see just how
gruesome that is, yet people often feel little remorse or pity for the first several executions in the
movie. The thing that is so emotional about John Coffey s execution is that the viewers are aware
he is being put to death even though he is innocent. Virtually no one feels the urge to execute an
innocent man, but many feel the urge to execute someone who is guilty (Dow). That is a highly
accurate statement, the majority of people have no issue killing a guilty person, but the real
tearjerker is being

The Fall Of The House Of Usher Differences
The Fall of the House of Usher is a work that has gained notoriety as both a short story and a film.
The short story written by Edgar Allan Poe is considered one of his finest works. The film, written
by Richard Matheson, stars great actors of the 1900s such as Vincent Price. However, there are vast
differences between the short storyand the film. Unlike the short story, Roderick Usher and Peter
Winthrop, who does not have a name in the short story, are not friends in the film. In addition, the
film features a lovestory between Peter Winthrop and Madeline Usher. Yet, the film does retain
Poe s original description of Roderick Usher. Nevertheless, both the short story and the film are
great works of a frightening story. The first difference

Marina Keegan s Essay Why We Care About Whales
Even though Singer uses speciesism to explain the lack of empathy towards animals, a
counterargument to his theory exists in Marina Keegan s essay Why We Care About Whales.
Keegan points out that a tremendous amount of money goes towards the rescue of beached whales
when it could go towards helping humanity and other more dire issues. The question becomes
whether or not our inability to stop the mass consumption of meat is actually because speciesism
makes it so we don t care about the rights or lives of other animals, or is there another piece to the
puzzle? Keegan argues that we care tremendously, In theory [Keegan] can say that our resources
should be concentrated on saving human lives, that our Save the Whales T Shirts should read...

This is why Singer contributed so strongly into the animal rights movement, he wanted to educate
people so they would hopefully fall into the avoidance category. Johnson states that Animal
Liberation is one of those rare books that demand that you either defend the way you live, or
change it because it does educate people on the brutal conditions that animals deal with in order to
be meat on the plates of billions of people (898). Although reality is that the odds that everyone
who reads Singer s argument will be persuaded to switch to a plant based diet is slim because most
are too accustomed to it. Again, It would be like teaching an old dog new tricks. Johnson even
goes as far to mention how thousands, convinced by Singer and the like, become vegetarians for
moral reasons. And then most of those thousands start eating meat again (898). However, this isn
t the individual s fault necessarily. How realistic it is to adhere to a plant based diet when the
resources can be so limited? Often the cheapest high quality protein available to the poor comes
from animals, and then we must wonder is we should let people starve for the sake of animals
(899). The answer is a bitter yes in

  • 4. Final Three Crusades Essay Catholicism is a religion based upon the commandments instilled by Jesus Christ Son of God. The final three crusades were uncontrolled by the pope and led to rape, theft, pillaging, a dark past that has shaped the future of Catholicism today. The Roman Catholic crusades where Catholic wars started to try and regain control over Jerusalem (the holy land), and to expand the religion, the final three crusades however derived from the initial purpose and led to destruction. The purpose of the research I have done over Roman Catholic Crusades is to get a deeper understanding as to why the Catholic leaders used Crusades to expand their religious beliefs and the outcomes both good and bad of the crusades. However many of the actions during the crusades did not promote peace as they where intended (William J.). Many Europeans feeling the need to join the cause in crusades, joined the cause with nothing but wooden crosses, many people abandoned their homes to join on the journey. Crusades left many people dead in the Middle East. Jerusalem being the major goal of conquest of the crusaders in the end many of the crusades failed or simply turned back (Brown, Bryan). Europeans used Crusades to expand Christianity. The Crusades where considered unsuccessful. Many of them brought tragedy to local Christians, which was part of the reason of the failure in the crusades. The crusades however did leave some practices instilled in the later religions that where to be made. Through these crusades a lot of the new religions adapted practices that are now influential in there religious practices (William E.). Emilie Gogalak gives us an interesting out look of how crusades brought together many faiths. She also gives us a belief that maybe the crusades where not sparked for religious beliefs but simply for power and money (Emilie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Federal Bureau Of Prisons Healthcare is a big topic no matter how you view it, but when looking at it from the point of a person who is in prison, it takes on a whole new view. Those who are in prison have federal and state laws that say that the prisons must provide them with medical facilities for their healthcare needs. This paper will identify a governmental agency that regulates the healthcare that is provided to prisoners in an institution within the United States, along with the foundation of such an agency and who regulates the licenses, accreditation, certifications, and authorization for employment for those who work within one of these facilities. The Federal Bureau of Prisons The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is an agency that was created on May 14, 1930 and approved of by then president Herbert Hoover. Its main headquarters is in Washington, D.C. The BOP is a subdivision of the United States Justice Department and is responsible for the administration of the federal prison system. • 7. Technology And The Human Computer Interface There are certain technology programs that are emerging in the software industry that have key uses. These current technologies are those that surround the human computer interface. As a software engineer, I will use this paper to describe the term Haptic Feedback, its key uses and why it is needed. In addition, I will compare the various types of human memory mentioning their impact on the human computer interface. I will also give a detailed description of the potential outcomes of not making use of consistency in the human computer interface, summarize and explain the steps of user centric design process and the role of human motion in the human computer interface. Haptic Feedback Haptic can be defined as the science of applying the touch sensation as well as control to guide human interactions with the computer applications. This is done using the special devices such as data gloves and joysticks to enable users to receive computer application feedback in form of a felt body part sensation, especially the hand. In that regard, it can be deemed that Haptic Feedback is the feedback that users derive from the interaction with computer applications that is only felt, not heard or seen. The key uses of Haptic Feedback are in the image outlines delineated by the feel sensation in a way like object simulation in a location near the user. We tend to try to hide the imperfections on our body to conform to society s rules on what makes someone more beautiful than one another. These things include covering up skin with make up to hide the pimples and wearing clothing that cover up parts of the skin that we may not want other people to view. Also straightening the hair and painting our nails to cover the imperfections that society tends to puts on us. This cause us to start changing into someone to please how the society views us as a whole. However as we continue to develop as individuals we tend to say that beauty is only skin deep. The truth is that everyone is different or unique in their own way and if you can overlook a person physical appearance and look deep down into recognizing a person inner qualities you will find that beauty is more than what meets the eye. • 11. Essay about Chaucer s Canterbury Tales Chaucer s Canterbury Tales After reading explications of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, a student is likely to come away with the impression that the Franklin is the critics favorite punching bag. To the average reader in the modern English speaking world, the Franklin comes across as surprisingly fair minded and level headed, noteworthy as the man kind and inventive enough to resolve the marriage cycle with a tale of decency and openness. The critics, however, often depict the Franklin as a man primarily concerned with upward mobility, finding in his tale a number of remarks intended to win over the nobility and subtly assert his own claim to a kind of nobility. The contrast between the fawning Franklin of certain critical approaches and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marxist critics look for social and economic themes in a work, ones of which the author was unaware because the authors own consciousness is affected by the system of production in which he or she lived (157). This critical stance is particularly fitting when one approaches the Canterbury Tales: Chaucer s conscious emphasis on social class, combined with a modern reader s lack of familiarity with the economic conditions of Chaucer s work, requires almost any explicator of Chaucer s work to indulge, to some degree, in Marxist criticism. In her essay The Franklin as Dorigen, Susan Crane blends Marxist and feminist approaches to point out links between the Franklin and the heroine of his tale. The heroine of romance, she notes, occupies an insecure position in society. Noble by birth, and therefore superior to the common run of people, she is nevertheless still a woman, in a society which marginalizes women (Crane 238 239). The superior/subordinate position of Dorigen, Crane says, is an echo of the Franklin s own unclear status as a possible member of the gentlemanly class. Like the woman of nobility, the Franklin stands at the boundary between authority and submission (240). For Crane, a key element in the Franklin s choice of tale is his role as vavasour. Small land holders of this sort often appear in Old French romances, depicted as peaceable, hospitable men disinclined to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Importance Of Revenge In William Shakespeare s Hamlet Who ever thought acting out revenge would be so difficult. In the story, Hamlet, we have a young man who is seeking revenge for the death of his father. The person responsible his death was Hamlet s uncle, Claudius. Hamlet contemplates killing Claudius many times throughout the play. There is much speculation as to why Hamlethesitated, and why he didn t just killClaudius as quickly as possible. Hamlet wants to ensure he did it right and that it was a righteous killing. Hamlet had every reason to be angry with Claudius, for he murdered his father. Hamlet, throughout almost the entire play, was completely dedicated to killing Claudius. But, Hamlet need proof to accomplish his task. Deep down, Hamlet is a good man. This does not mean that he was perfect, nor does it mean that he was incredibly righteous in every aspect. But, he was a good man because he always examined what it was he was doing, or what he was planning. This explains why Hamlet contemplated killing Claudius. Hamlet is unsure if he should kill his uncle; would he be a thought of a coward. Should he partake in the death of his uncle? He examined these things to ensure that he went about vengeance in the most righteous manner possible for him. It was not merely a murder for revenge, but a murder for the kingdom. It was not for Hamlet alone, but for the society that had been harmed by the existence and the actions of Claudius. Austen uses humor as a tool to show the readers what behavior is acceptable and what is not. Behaving above your rank is one of these social faux pas. Mr. Collins is constantly trying to improve his social situation by using his connection to Lady Catherine, Sir William takes himself too seriously, and Caroline always tries to elevate herself above Elizabeth, even though they are of the same station. Bei Dao shows a man looking through a third eye or inner eye view, a very mystical and spiritual way to look at life that only the most enlightened peoples have been able to observe. They are judging to see if he will make the right choice, to see if he has made the right choices before and to see if he is truly able to be apart of the Emperor s memory (heaven). In the last line of the poem Dao states a very powerful line the exile of words has begun (Dao 326). There is no more talking, no more waiting its do or die from here on out. The Liberation Of Women During The 18th And The 19th Century Uprising of Women in Psychology Sydney Alan Brackin University of Montevallo Abstract This paper shows the liberation of women in the 18th and the 19th Century, showing the different waves of feminist in psychology. It s important to remember the gradual changes and actions displayed. I choose to finalize this paper with Christine Ladd Franklin. She was the first women to complete the necessary requirements for a PhD. Her contributions to mathematics and psychology paved the way for other women to succeed. Uprising of Women in Psychology Women as Other Throughout history women have not been given proper recognition for their insight in the field of psychology. They were simply labeled as Other. Simone de Beauvoir, philosopher examines the concepts of woman and in relation to the larger concepts of humanity. She concludes that women s status is not simply a matter of definition, but a fundamental way of thinking that has political consequences. What is a Woman? This question may seem to be rudimentary, but when thought about women are the foundation for life. Women are more than their uterus, or an imperfect man. It was believed that women were made from man s image, Adam and Eve. This alone gives rise to men and lessens women as an individual. Man cannot think of himself without the other. Without women there would be no man. In the most primitive societies there is duality between the self and the other. These were not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Negative Effects Of Violent Video Games September 10, 2017 Writing Assignment #1 Blair Baugher Introduction The issue of whether or not violent video games encourage children, and teens to be violent is a heavily debated issue. There are many people who believe that violent video games DO cause violence in children, and teens, while there are also many people who believe that violent video games DO NOT cause violence in children, and teens. The relevance of this topic ties into psychology by further examining how people learn, and the techniques that are prevalent in how they do so. By stating that violent behavior can arise simply from playing a violent video game, one is relying on the notion that people will always act in a matter that is reflective of what they are surrounded by. Summary Through significant research, there is evidence that violence has risen in America. Some argue that this is because children and teens are spending more, and more time playing violent video games. Though there is ample evidence to prove that playing violent video games can have negative effects on someone, there is no evidence to directly show that the correlation between the two rising numbers is related. In the reading, Steven F. Gruel, who argued before the supreme court, believes that playing, and or watching violent video games, causes children to act violently. The cause, Gruel believes, isn t directly the video games, but the effect they leave on the children. Children are spending more of their time playing video ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Harari says, The truth is that empire has been the world s most common form of political organization for the last 2,500 years (191). Also Harari states, Empire is also a very stale form of government (191). This shows what type of impact empires had on our modern world by just giving the foundation of a type of government. The difference between an empire and nation, our modern world, is that empires typically didn t work because it was not possible to rule effectively over a large number of people. Also empires were used for destruction, exploitation, and people have the right to self determination (191). • 20. American Superheroes Influence On Society During The 1940s The 1940s were known as the golden age of comics. Many superheroes recognizable in mainstream popular culture today originated during this time, becoming favorites of the young and old alike. Unsurprisingly, superheroes usually experience their greatest success during times of transition and uncertainty, such as America moving from economic crisis into armed conflict (Bainbridge 746). While this essay will be focusing on the overall influence of all American Superheroes on society during the 1940s, a specific focus will be placed on two of the most well known created heroes: Supermanand Captain America. Both Superman and Captain America first emerged as the nation was coming out of the Great Depression and headed into World War II (Bainbridge 746). Therefore, protagonists like these two as well as comic books in general were crucial during the 1940s because they acted as lighthearted distractions from real world issues, devices of cultural influence as well as a big source of earning for publishers. Comic books and the introduction of superheroes provided society to escape into a fantasy world where everything wrong in the world was nonexistent thanks to these heroes. There is a small party on board the RMS Lusitania, and the Cunard Line s captain assigned for the vessel, William Turner, is standing in uniform, facing towards America. He raises a glass of port to a safe voyage, and the whole room follows suit. The chamber orchestra begins to play a fast paced, lighthearted tune. You are a war correspondent, and you believe that something is astray with Will Turner. 30 minutes into the festivities, the captain disappears. Nobody notices but you, of course, because you vowed not to drink a drop of spirit in your life at 12 years, and have held true to that promise for 24 years running. You can t help but notice, however, that he left quite abruptly, in a queer manner, and without pretense. Prior to this, he was nervous, checking his pocket watch frequently. You didn t suspect anything, but stayed wary. He returned quickly, and in good time, called off the ceremonies. You resign to your small room on the 2nd highest deck, hoping to catch some sleep, for the next day of the trip is just as strenuous and arduous as the past one. • 22. Frederik Schiller s Letters On The Aesthetic Education Of Man The role of art in human life has been studied by several philosophers throughout time. Frederik Schiller (1795 1805), in his Letters On the Aesthetic Education of Man develops the theory of the drives to explain the fragmentation of the human being and places art in a reconciliatory role between man s personal nature and the community. The present essay will discuss in some detail Schiller s theory of the drives, placing the main focus on the role and importance of the play drive in humanlife, to finally discuss the features in Schiller s theory of play that help elucidate the role of art in human life. According to Schiller, men in modern society experiment a conflict between the cultivation of individual talent and the welfare of their community as a single being. This conflict results in an alienation of the being and its consequent fragmentation. Taking this into account, Schiller states there are two aspects of human nature to be considered: the sense drive and the form drive. The sense, or sensuous drive, is born from man s physical existence, and thrives to achieve constant change of matter within a limit of time (finite). It is man s most primitive state . On the other hand, the form drive, born from man s rational nature, thrives to free man and maintain his person despite all the changes of his condition overlooking a limited time frame (infinite). This duality of human nature brings forth an imbalance in man s nature when one of the senses overpowers the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As consumers begin to default on their loans, banks are realizing the horrendous fact that they have no tangible cash to carry out business procedures. These profound errors in risk management are taking disastrous tolls on the economy. The U.S. economy is now facing four serious problems. The first problem is that consumers are cutting back on spending in an effort to try and repay their loans. Presently, consumers and banks are trying to reduce the amount of money borrowed in relation to their assets or income, a process known as de leveraging (Francis, 2008). This will cause a recession since consumers make up seventy percent of all spending. A spectrophotometer set to 450nm was used to measure the effect of lysozymeon bacteria. The absorbance or optical density was measured for each sample at specific times with a total measuring time of twenty minutes. In this experiment, it was shown that lysozyme inhibits microbial growth in saliva and synthetic tears and in lysozyme standard control. The results showed a decrease in absorbance readings over time as the lysozyme activity was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 41. The Collapse Of The Housing Bubble Collapse Introduction The following essay will thoroughly examine the severe economic downturn of 2008, formerly known as the housing bubble collapse. We will mainly focus our discussion on the effects the financial crisis had on Canada and the U.S and examine why both countries were affected differently. Although the collapse of the housing bubble is the most identifiable cause, it is extremely difficult to pinpoint one specific defining moment or event triggering the global financial collapse. There are many factors involved, due to the complex nature of the financial systems across the world, and this paper will delve in the key contributing variables that led to this financial crises. To begin, a brief history recap of the financial crises in 2008 will be given. Following that will be a breakdown of how the financial systems were set up in Canada and the U.S. We will then, in detail, discuss the Canadian and the U.S financial markets, in particular, the housing market and how each country was affected by the 2008 financial crisis. Lastly, we will proceed to evaluate the overwhelming differences between Canada and the U.S; from their core financial system to mortgages that allowed the Canadian market to remain excluded from the dire consequences of the US market recession, which followed shortly after the financial crisis. A Brief History of the 2008 Financial Collapse The 2008 financial collapse were both the result of a series of deregulatory measures and a lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Outside of the genre or independently these symbols hold little significance. The Western genre is an obvious. The surface appearance of the film signals the film s genre. As a notorious criminal and murderer, if he makes it to Yuma he will be sentenced to death, intensifying the consequences. The film follows the Classical Hollywood convention of using deadlines and appointments to drive the film s narrative and plot. The goal of Dan Evans is to get him on the train or die trying. The contracts states that Evans only needs to get Wade onto the train to receive his reward. The film creates the sense of an epic journey from the Evans ranch to Contention, centred on the building of the transcontinental railroad. The film s ending is an ambiguous one. Wade surrenders himself and his weapons when boarding the train to Yuma. As the train takes off around the bend, Wade whistles, summoning his trusted horse that gallops alongside the train. It is suggested that Wade will escape as he has escaped from Yuma prison twice before. 3:10 to Yuma follows the narrative strategy of an ambiguous ending typical of the genre. The hero holds to his individuality strongly to the bitter end. As Wade departs and Evans dies, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. To My Dear And Loving Husband By Elizabeth Bradstreet Poem analysis term 3 2015 Topic: Love A question that is often asked by many people is why do poets write? There is no definitive answer to the question, as not all poets write for the same reason or are inspired to write for the same reason. Some write as a means of expressing their feelings to an audience as they face hardships or exiting times in their life; other reasons can just simply be a conglomeration of images, perspectives and ideas developed in their mind. With this being said the overarching idea behind the greatest poems is to create a poem that people can relate to, for not only in that time period, but for years to come, therefore creating a timeless piece of art. One of the key components of creating such a piece is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The desired effect of this idea is to leave it open for interpretation and therefore creating a response in the audience and a discussion of what the true message is that s hidden behind the ink. The poem to my dear loving husband is generally thought to give the message that love is everlasting, even after death. In the first stanza of the poem the author puts out a challenge to other women to compare their love to hers as she states if ever wife is happy in a man, compare with me, ye woman, if you can . This engages the reader to really see how their love or marriage really does compare to what the author is saying. In the next stanza with the lines I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold, or all the riches in the east doth hold . This is her saying that her love is of much greater importance to her than that of wealth and power. In the final stanza she talks of her love being a gift that she has been given and of which she doesn t believe she deserves but is accepting and thankful for it anyway. In the poem How do I love thee the how is really emphasised due to her only talking about how much she loves him without explaining why through the entirety of the poem. From the very start of the poem the writer starts a list of all the different ways she loves her husband or boyfriend. This, along with the use of the word ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

High alveolar ventilation brings more O2 into the alveoli, increasing O2 , and rapidly eliminating CO2 from the lungs (for chemical abbreviations see Table 2). Partial pressure of gases Dalton s law explains the partial pressure of a gas, which is the pressure exerted by a gas within a mixture of gases independent of each gas in the mixture (Marieb, 2004). The partial pressure of each gas is directly proportional to its percentage in the total mixture and in air is determined by atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa (760 mmHg), 21% of this air is oxygen, and the partial pressure of oxygen (PO2 ) in atmospheric air is: 21 × 101 = 21.2 kPa 100 Within the alveoli the PO2 is different to air because of enrichment in the air passages (dead space) with CO2 and water vapour. Alveolar air contains much more CO2 and water vapour and much less O2 and so makes a greater contribution to the near atmospheric pressure in the lungs, then they do in air. This is due to: gas exchanges occurring in the lungs, humidification of air by the conducting passages, mixing of gases in the dead space (contains air not involved in gaseous exchange) between the nose and alveoli. In alveoli, PO2 averages only 13.2 kPa (100 mmHg). Continuous consumption of O2 and production of CO2 in the cells means that there is a partial pressure gradient both in the lungs and at the tissue level ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Modern Tragedy Analysis Is Modern Tragedy Truly Tragedy? (A critique of Stephen King s inspired movie The Green Mile as it relates to Aristotle s Poetics) Tragedy is an imitation, not of men, but of an action and of life, and life consists in action, and its end is a mode of action, not a quality (Butcher). Aristotle says that tragedy has more to do with the action of the plot than the characters themselves. Tragedy is best defined as a drama that includes a clear plot line and a protagonist who has a character flaw that leads to his or her downfall. Character flaws occur in many ways, for some it is excessive pride, for others it is just the need to be kind to others and disregarding a person s own health. The tragic hero, consequently, should be a man better than ourselves, but not perfect; and he should suffer from a flaw which shows itself in some mistaken judgement or act resulting in his downfall (Poetics Packet). While it may not seem like a flaw, Coffey s character flaw is that he has some sort of supernatural healing power which, in a way, got him into the death row area of prison to begin with. Coffey performs an act where he touches ill people and for whatever reason, the person is cured, and Coffey coughs up insects that represent the negative things leaving a person s body as the individual heals. As the movie wraps up, Paul and various other guards are aware of John s innocence, yet there is no evidence so he will have to be put to death regardless. Throughout the movie, men are put to death and the audience can see just how gruesome that is, yet people often feel little remorse or pity for the first several executions in the movie. The thing that is so emotional about John Coffey s execution is that the viewers are aware he is being put to death even though he is innocent. Virtually no one feels the urge to execute an innocent man, but many feel the urge to execute someone who is guilty (Dow). Marina Keegan s Essay Why We Care About Whales Even though Singer uses speciesism to explain the lack of empathy towards animals, a counterargument to his theory exists in Marina Keegan s essay Why We Care About Whales. Keegan points out that a tremendous amount of money goes towards the rescue of beached whales when it could go towards helping humanity and other more dire issues. The question becomes whether or not our inability to stop the mass consumption of meat is actually because speciesism makes it so we don t care about the rights or lives of other animals, or is there another piece to the puzzle? Keegan argues that we care tremendously, In theory [Keegan] can say that our resources should be concentrated on saving human lives, that our Save the Whales T Shirts should read... This is why Singer contributed so strongly into the animal rights movement, he wanted to educate people so they would hopefully fall into the avoidance category. Johnson states that Animal Liberation is one of those rare books that demand that you either defend the way you live, or change it because it does educate people on the brutal conditions that animals deal with in order to be meat on the plates of billions of people (898). Although reality is that the odds that everyone who reads Singer s argument will be persuaded to switch to a plant based diet is slim because most are too accustomed to it. Again, It would be like teaching an old dog new tricks. Johnson even goes as far to mention how thousands, convinced by Singer and the like, become vegetarians for moral reasons. And then most of those thousands start eating meat again (898). However, this isn t the individual s fault necessarily. How realistic it is to adhere to a plant based diet when the resources can be so limited?
