What is Cryptography?
Cryptography is a method of storing and transmitting data in a particular form so that only those for
whom it is intended can read and process it. (Rouse, Definition: Cryptography, 2016)
It s meant for keeping secrets secret.
The objectives of Cryptography are as follows:
Confidentiality Ensuring that the information cannot be understood by anyone other than whom it
was intended.
Integrity Ensuring that the information cannot be altered in storage or in transit.
Non repudiation Where the creator or sender of information cannot later deny creation of the
message to be sent.
Authentication In which the sender and receiver can confirm each other s identity as well as the
origin and destination of the information.

Drug Abuse In America Essay
Drug Abuse in America
Every citizen of the United States has been affected by drug abuse. Be it directly or indirectly we
have all felt the negative effects on our society, our economy, and our safety. Why do Americans
abuse drugs? There seems little progress toward an answer considering illicit drug use has gone
from 8.3% to 9.4% since 2002. Clearly, we are no closer to a solution than we were fourteen
years ago. One reason so many Americans use illicit drugs is the ease of availability. There is a
near unlimited supply of drugs and people willing to sell them, especially in low income areas.
Additionally, it is easy to purchase narcotics anonymously on the deep web. Another cause of drug
abuse is self medication. People with depression or who are in pain often medicate their symptoms
with illicit drugs. It is estimated that over 52% of drug related deaths in the U.S. are due to
prescription drugs. While some deaths can be attributed to suicide, many result from incorrect
dosage. People often take drugs with the intention of having a good time or ... Show more content

Unfortunately, these numbers are on the rise and show no sign of stopping. These deaths result
mostly from cocaine and methadone abuse, and include driving under the influence, homicides,
and other drug related causes. In 2014 alone, over 26,000 people died from overdose. The
increasing number of deaths from opioid overdose is alarming, said CDC Director Tom Frieden.
The opioid epidemic is devastating American families and communities. To curb these trends and
save lives, we must help prevent addiction and provide support and treatment to those who suffer
from opioid use disorders. This report also shows how important it is that law enforcement
intensifies efforts to reduce the availability of heroin, illegal fentanyl, and other illegal opioids. All
human life is precious and should not be taken because of

Similarities Between Agriculture And Industrial Revolution
Richard Bach once said A tiny change today brings a dramatically tomorrow This quote means that
without the Industrial Revolution or the Agriculture Revolution, the world would completely be
different. The Industrial Revolution grew the world s population from 375 million people in 1400
to around 1 billion people in the early nineteenth century. (Strayer 828) The Agricultural Revolution
grew the world s populationfrom 6 million people to 50 million people. (Strayer 20) This fact
would prove that both of these revolutions are the reason why the world is shaped today. . Both of
these have their fair share of comparisons and contractions, including social and economic changes.
One difference is the Industrial Revolutionhad a major political... Show more content on

That opened up a door for a ton more inventions including, James Watt improving the Steam Engine
in 1769, and Eli Whitney inventing the Cotton Gin in 1794.The Steam Engine was the most
important breakthrough that was invented in the Industrial Revolution because it made trading
easier. It created railroads that were used everywhere, 157 railroad lines in 1830 (Kilometers) to
21,036 railroad lines in 1850. A All of these inventions happened in Great Britain was for two
factors that are because Europe s internal design favored the innovation and the other being

for revenue in the absence of an effective tax collecting bureaucracy pushed European royals into
an unusual alliance with their merchant class. (Strayer 831) It had also continued to grow
because of Great Britain s isolation from enemy countries, such as France. As well as the
economic changes, there were social changes in Great Britain. For example, in 1832 the Reform
Bill was passed, which allowed middle class men to vote. Then in 1864 , the first socialist
organization in Europe took place in Great Britain. The major contributors towards the socialist

The Scarlet Ibis
The Scarlet Ibis JAMES HURST Adapted from: Elements of Literature: Third Course. Austin:
Holt, Rinehart and Winston. 2003. It was in the clove of seasons, summer was dead but autumn
had not yet been born, that the ibis lit in the bleeding tree.1 The flower garden was strained with
rotting brown magnolia petals and ironweeds grew rank2 amid the purple phlox. The five o
clocks by the chimney still marked time, but the oriole nest in the elm was untenanted and rocked

Crawling backward made him look like a doodlebug,7 so I began to call him Doodle, and in time
even Mama and Daddy thought it was a better name than William Armstrong. Only Aunt Nicey
disagreed. She said caul babies should be treated with special respect since they might turn out
to be saints. Renaming my brother was perhaps the kindest thing I ever did for him, because
nobody expects much from someone called Doodle. Although Doodle learned to crawl, he
showed no signs of walking, but he wasn t idle. He talked so much that we all quit listening to
what he said. It was about this time that Daddy built him a go cart and I had to pull him around.
At first I just paraded him up and down the piazza,8 but then he started crying to be taken out
into the yard, and it ended up by my having to lug him wherever I went. If I so much as picked
up my cap, he d start crying to go with me and Mama would call from where she was, Take
Doodle with you. He was a burden in many ways. The doctor had said that he mustn t get too
excited, too hot, too cold, or too tired and that he must always be treated gently. A long list of
don ts went with him, all of which I ignored once we got out of the house. To discourage his
coming with me, I d run with him across the ends of the cotton rows and careen him around
corners on two wheels. Sometimes I accidentally turned him over, but he never told Mama. His
skin was very sensitive, and he had to wear a big straw hat whenever he went out.

class, deliberated practice is the type of practice that is effortful, purposeful, and not inherently
enjoyable. Individuals are prompted to practice because their performance improves. In addition,
engaging in deliberate practice does not create instant rewards and significance associated with
access to teachers and training atmospheres. However, Ericsson states becoming an

A Express Transmission Project Receives Approval From...
TransWest Express Transmission Project receives approval from Nevada PUC General Interest The
Nevada Public Utilities Commission (PUC) granted approval for the $3 billion Trans West Express
project (TWEP). TWEP is a 725 mile 600 kilovolt transmission line carrying 3,000 megawatt of
mostly renewable energy. This project will help deliver high capacity renewable energy to larger
markets in the west, including utilities in Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, and California. The
Department of Energy (DOE) Western Area Power Authority (WAPA) entered into a non binding
agreement with TransWest to procure a 50 percent equity stake in the transmission project. Under
the current non binding contractual agreement, TransWest Express, LLC and Western are jointly
developing and maintaining the transmission line. To protect wetlands and wildlife habitat, the
Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the DOE s Western Area Power Administration are
preparing an environmental impact statement under the National Environmental Policy Act for the
TransWest Express Transmission Project. Transwest officials estimate a large portion of the
proposed route is sited on federal land, which is mainly administered by the Bureau of Land
Management and U.S. Forest Service. Developers expect to start the construction in 2017 and

Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are, In the Night...
Maurice Sendak s Where the Wild Things Are, In the Night Kitchen, and Outside Over There
The three titles of Maurice Sendak s famous picture book trilogy, Where the Wild Things Are, In
the Night Kitchen, and Outside Over There, name what Judith Butler calls zones of
uninhabitability, places of abjection that form the borders of the self as both its constitutive outside
and its intimate interior. These are dangerous places in the geography of childhood, places where
the child s very life and sense of self is threatened. More frightening still, they are present places,
places that exist in the same time that the child inhabits, rather than the once upon a mythical time
of fairy tales and legends. Hence they are places that beckon the ... Show more content on

However, I would not go so far as other critics have done in claiming that this developmental
narrative is the journey of a single everychild. That is abject logic indeed, since it frames itself as a
monolithic story of what constitutes a clean and proper childhood, absent particularities. No, Sendak
s characters are individuals who experience their bodies, their drives, and their desires as their
own; their boundaries and borderlands are distinctly personal landscapes wherein they act their
own particular corporeal dramas. Nor is the lesson regarding the abject monolithic across the
trilogy. Sendak s vision in the first two books involves more than a once for all setting of the
boundaries between self and other; the children learn the possibilities and limits of embracing
alterity within themselves, or at least of mapping the space of and for otherness as part of their
own psychic landscape. But in the third and final book, the book that signaled the end of Sendak s
career as a children s book writer and illustrator and the beginning of his work in theater, Ida s
encounter with abjection is more profound, less jubilant, and more in keeping with the general
logic of abjection under which the adult subject is constituted.
In the first book, Where the Wild Things Are, Max wants to be a wild thing, that is, he wants to
live his body in a raw, socially unacceptable way. His mother is at first complicit

History Of Atlantic Canadian History And Its Impact On Our...
Since 1971, there has been some important and innovative changes in Atlantic Canadian
historiography that has made an impact on our world. One of the greatest landmark s in Atlantic
Canadian history, in my opinion, was the resurgence of treaties rights for the Mi gmaq and
Maliseet nation. Thus, my focus for this essay will be on Mi gmaq historiography in regards to
fishing and treaty rights in the maritimes. There have been three well known fishing disputes in
Atlantic Canada, ranging from the 1981 the Listuguj Raid, to the 1999 Supreme Court ruling
concerning the Donald Marshall Case, and a year later with the Burnt Church Crisis. All of these
historic events are steps for the Mi gmaq Nation to reclaiming their treaty rights. After over... Show

The Mi gmaq of Listuguj met with the government on several occasions to resolve this issue, and
after many meetings and careful planning we came up with our own law and regulations, and
applied them onto pieces of paper, instead of the oral traditions which we followed for thousands
of years. These requests to have our own laws and regulations have been granted to us because we
had an inherited right to fish salmon long before any federal and provincial governments after a
great deal of protesting. It was also finally recognized because it was in written word, this was the
only form that the governments would accept. However, today these challenges with oral traditions
and court systems are still a commonplace, but there are some successful steps towards the court
recognizing and affirming treaty and Indigenous rights. Some attest that these steps in trying to get
the Canadian courts to meaningfully recognize treaty and Indigenous rights is more than
challenging, it is nearly impossible in some cases because of the colonial governing structures of
Canadian society.
Indigenous nations have always had their own ways governing their society. These ancient
traditions were passed down to the future generations, even making it through the forces of
colonialism. By saying that, it can be understood of the importance and significance it had and has

The Gay Liberation Movement Of Manhattan, New York City
On June 28, 1969, the Gay Liberation Movement was sparked due to the Stonewall Riot in
Manhattan, New York City, (History.com Staff). The Stonewall was a gay club located in New
York City. It was often regulated and harassed by police officers but one day the LGBT decided to
stand up for themselves and fight back. Although the police were legally justified in raiding the
club, which was serving liquor without a license among other violations, New York s gay
community had grown weary of the police department targeting gay clubs, a majority of which
had already been closed. The crowd on the street watched quietly as Stonewall s employees were
arrested, but when three drag queens and a lesbian were forced into the paddy wagon, the crowd
began throwing bottles at the police. The officers were forced to take shelter inside the
establishment, and two policemen were slightly injured before reinforcements arrived to disperse
the mob. The protest, however, spilled over into the neighboring streets, and order was not
restored until the deployment of New York s riot police. The raid on the Stonewall Inn lead to
many riots and created an uproar from the LGBTcommunity, (Teal). The Stonewall Riot was
followed by several days of demonstrations in New York and was the impetus for the formation of
the Gay LiberationFront as well as other gay, lesbian, and bisexual civil rights organizations. It is

The Case Of Legal Drinking Age
The final situation I have had concerning unclear boundaries involved me and a professor. This
individual was someone I had grown to know and respect and took several courses under. The
incident occurred after I had graduated from Western Carolina University with my bachelor s
degrees while I was living in Cullowhee over the summer. I was invited to the professor s house
along with another former student to eat dinner with him and his wife. While we were eating the
meal, the professor gave me and the other student a glass of wine to go with dinner. Even though
I was of legal drinking age and was no longer a student of the professor s, it felt strange to have a
professor provide me alcohol.
Also, I felt uncomfortable being in the professor s home since it was the first time I had
socialized with a professor outside of a school environment. I later discussed the event with the
other student to inquire if the situation also made her uncomfortable. The individual disclosed that
she did not feel uncomfortable since this was not her first time having dinner with the professor
and his wife. I did not talk about how this incident made me feel with my professor. The reason
the boundaries were unclear in this situation was that there was a multiple relationship. I was now
the professor s former student as well as an individual who had a social relationship with the
professor.
Unlike the two previous examples, I was not the individual with a position of power. Since the

The Effect Of Glucose On Food And Chemistry

Glucose Introduction: What influence does Glucose have within food and chemistry itself? We
all know that Glucose itself is a simple monosaccharide that we normally call Sugar, however
what does it all really cover within the basis of food? So let s get down to the bottom of this and
discover what role Glucose plays within the chemistry of food.
Background: Glucose, which is also called D glucose or Dextrose is a monosaccharide within one
of the carbohydrate groups known as simple sugars. Originally based off of the Greek word,
glukus , which is translated to the word, Sugar, Glucose is found the most in fruits and honey. Its
molecular formula is C6H12O6 and is the most common simple sugar regulated in the blood of
animals. Glucose was first discovered within raisins in 1747 by the German chemist Andreas
Marggraf. Since glucose is a core necessity of many living creatures, a basic understanding of its
chemical makeup and structure contributed immensely to the growth of organic chemistry.
Search Findings: All forms of glucose are void of color and soluble in water, acetic acid, and
several other solvents. They are only semi soluble in methanol and ethanol. Glucose is the main
source of energy in cell function comes primarily from carbohydrates which then break down into
simple sugars, and the regulation of metabolism. It is one of the three monosaccharides

Coming Of Age In Mississippi Essay Thesis
In the autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, by Anne Moody; Anne writes about
violence, racial discrimination, and white privileges in the text. Throughout her childhood and
adulthood Anne witnessed the murders, beatings, and major moments of civil rights
movements during her time in Mississippi. Anne`s narrative gives a vivid description of each
hopeless moment during her lifetime. Meanwhile, Moody experiences such despair that she
begins to question if Mississippi will ever overcome racial oppression. Thesis: In the text, Anne
Moody writes her last paragraph saying, We shall overcome, we shall overcome, we shall overcome

A boy from Mississippi would have known better than that. This boy was from Chicago. Negroes

This quote is directed towards the Emmet Till murder that happen in Mississippi. The boy
apparently whistled at a white woman who caused him to lose his life. Mrs. Burke then
continues saying, See that boy was fourteen too. It`s a shame that he had to die so soon (Moody

was fourteen as well. Mrs. Burke threatened her with his murder basically saying that she better
stay in her place and do as she was told. Anne felt in that moment as if there was no hope for her
in Mississippi or working for Mrs. Burke. There was another moment in the text that gives the
reader a glance of hope, but only to see that despair overcomes again. In this example, Moody is
working for Linda Jean who pays her twelve dollars a week. But, Mama, she does everything. It`s
not fair. I don`t do anything around her (Moody 214). Linda Jean stated this to her mother,

Good vs. Evil in Wuthering Heights
Many authors use the setting of a novel to illuminate certain values and principles in their writing.
In Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte utilizes this technique to enhance the theme of the work. The
novel is set in a harsh environment in Northern England, highlighting two specific estates,
Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, as the main places of action. The dreary landscape
and houses not only serve as the primary setting, but also as major symbols that aide in establishing
the tone and enhancing the novels theme of good versus evil. The novel is set in Yorkshire, a
barren landscape in an isolated region of Northern England. The detailed descriptions of the
environment allow the mood and tone of the novel to be revealed.... Show more content on

Wuthering Heights is depicted as a cold, threatening, and dark manor, situated on a bleak hilltop. In
the novel, wuthering is the local adjective to describe the atmospheric tumult present in the region.
The rugged manor, Wuthering Heights, represents a storm , characterized by the wild emotions
and harsh behaviors of the inhabitants. The depressing atmosphere causes people to shiver
through every limb at the sorrowful sight of the Heights. In deep contrast, Thrushcross Grange is
described as a splendid place of elegance and comfort. The peaceful dwelling of the Grange
represents higher values and morals, and is considered the calm residence of the novel. The author
creatively reveals the theme of good versus evil, or the calm versus the storm, through the
pronounced symbolic differences in the houses. In addition, the houses hold distinct personality
traits that closely relate to the characters who reside in each. The vivid descriptions of the houses
link to certain characters, allowing the reader to gain insight into the character s personalities, thus
enhancing the theme. The residents of Wuthering Heights consist of the common, working class
people of society. The gloomy characteristics of Wuthering Heights are embodied in the characters
who occupy the manor. Wuthering Heights parallels the major character, Healthcliff. He is a man

There is a long list to go through in order for a person to choose what part of graphic design he

Johnny Manziel Research Paper
The Cleveland Browns season has begun with one preseason game already in the books.
Although the Browns lost to the Washington Redskins 20 17, we learned quite a few things from
Thursday nights game. First off, Josh McCown was respectfully impressive even though he only
played one possession. He looked composed in the pocket, knowing where and when to throw
the ball. The veteran quarterback showed off his mobility, avoiding pressure to find Travis
Benjamin in the end zone for a touchdown. McCown completed a perfect five for five passes for

who showed vas improvement. The former first round pick completed seven of his 11 pass

mistakes. With just under a minute left before halftime, Manziel stared down one of his
receivers and the pass was batted down, but he is lucky isn t didn t result in a pick six.
Additionally, Johnny fumbled a snap in addition to taking just one sack. On a positive note,
Manziel looks to be gaining comfort in the pocket. He was responsible for three first downs and a
12 yard touchdown scramble. He was Cleveland s leading rusher with 14 yards on just two carries.

The Poet: Emerson Response
By the end of Emersons The Poet , not only has he inspired a new generation of poets he s also
emphasized the important role poetry plays in society and changed all the rules society had
regarding poetry. For poetry was all written before time was, and whenever we are so finely
organized that we can penetrate into that region where the air is music, ... (Emerson pg. 3)
In this excerpt from The Poet, Emerson is attempting to make a profound statement on the
impact poetry plays in every living human being on Earth. He is viewing a poet as the creator of
the universe. In doing this he is saying that poetry is something that already exists all around us,
it s the job of the poet to capture that and present it through their words. Emerson labels the poet
as the man of Beauty, which he believes has a superior calling. The poet is different from the
intellectual as he doesn t see any relation between the material world, and the world of thoughts
and ideas. Emerson establishes his belief that there is a relationship between the ideal , which is
something that we aspire to be, and the real which is one of the central issues in the discussion.
Emerson backs up all his points with very heady, and mystical beliefs which adds to the grandiose
nature of The Poet. Emerson believes that too many of us have distanced ourselves

The Impact of the Washington State Railroads
the impact of rail roads on the washington state
Can you imagine living in a car for six months? If not then try to imagine how hard it would be to
be living in a wagon thats always moving. Everyone having to pitch in by either collecting
firewood, walking beside the wagon to make the load lighter for the horses, or taking care of
seven or eight children, the exhuastion knocking you out every night. Then when you finally get
to the land you travelled so far to get a piece of, there is more work then thought. The railroads
changed all of that worry and hard labor. On September 8th, 1883 the railroad came to Washington

The Wonders Of The Canadian Government Essay
The Wonders Of The Canadian Government
Protection of life is NOT a legitimate use for a firearm in this country sir! Not! That is expressly
ruled out! Justice Minister Allan Rock, 1994. Guns are highly controlled in Canada for a reason,
because if they were not, where would Canada be now? Canada would be in anarchy as they slowly
watch their country slip into violence and on to its impending doom(Hyperbole). To think back
on life, whether 19 years of age or 90 years of age, has there ever been a time where safety is found
in holding a gun, or a situation that felt a gun would have been necessary? To start off, Canadian
citizens will feel safer without guns because no one will have guns! Funny how that works now is
it not? Firstly, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Would Canadian citizens feel safer with the Trudeau government implementing these legislations
in? To be honest, they would, Justin made some very valid points and these did help him win a
majority government.
Lastly, if people feel unsafe with firearms they possess they can simply rid of them, when the right
time comes, through a Gun Amnesty Drive . This is where people can drop off a firearmthat you
possess that is inherited or simply, no longer in usage. That means that people can use a gun
amnesty drive to drive away the worry of that weapon crashing into the wrong hands (Verbal
Irony). Toronto Police Inspector Chris Boddy feels that any time the Toronto police removes
one gun out of a neighbourhood, [it is] a good day, and [we have] a lot of good days . Due to
Gun laws in Canada, programs like the Gun Amnesty program in Toronto, and similar ones around
the country are able to happen, which gives the police a chance to get ahead against criminals and
gangs. Do listen though, the guns collected via these programs are not repurposed for the use of
police officers, but are destroyed, ridding of anyway for the guns collected to be brought out onto
the street.
To bring this all into a smaller picture, because of the regulations set by the Trudeau government,
and because of the programs available to help destroy unwanted

Reducing Medication Errors During Long Term Care Facility...
Reducing Medication Errors in Long Term Care Facility
One of the critical core components of Skilled Nursing Facility is medication administration. As
cited by Tenhunen, Tanner, and Dahlen (2014), they stated that 88% of the residents living in the
nursing homes are aged 65 years old and older. They discussed that every five of administered
medications in nursing home has one probability of error. This means that about half of the
residents have the possibility of two or more medication errors daily. This applies to the Pasadena
Care Center (PCC) because its residents are mostly older adults who require medications on a
daily basis. Moreover, residents are prescribed with multiple medications, which make them
vulnerable to medication errors. The staff at PCC is trying their best to ensure safe medication
administration, however, it still in need of a major change. The goal of the proposed change is to
decrease the medication errors in this organization to ensure patient safety.
Background
The PCC is a Skilled Nursing Facility and is licensed for 99 beds. It provides specialized care
services ranging from short term, long term, and hospice care. The residents come from different
racial background and were diagnosed with acute to chronic medical conditions. The majority of
residents are older adults and often taking numerous medications, which put them at risk for
medication errors. As discussed by Lane, Troyer, Dienemann, Laditka, and Blanchette (2014), older

High-Protein Diets For Weight Loss Essay
High Protein Diets for Weight Loss
The Role of Dieting in Society Today
The preoccupation of modern society with appearance is reflected in part by the preponderance of
Americans who engage in dieting behaviors. Despite the nutritional and fitness literature which
pervades society today, 33% of the American population continues to be overweight (Bates, 1997).
The USDA recommendation for a low fat, high complex carbohydrate diet over the years has
seemingly not been effective, since the proportion of overweight Americans has increased. Many
frustrated Americans have in turn looked beyond the high carb, low fat diet to other less
conventional measures (http.//web.usatoday.com/life/health/lhs641.htm). Dietary fads have sprouted

Popular Examples of High Protein Diets
The Zone diet, as described in The Zone by Barry Sears, Ph.D. is an example of a protein
adequate diet (http://web.usatoday.com/life/health/lhs641.htm). Small meals of fruits, vegetables,
monounsaturated fats, and low fat proteins are advised to be eaten throughout the day. Sources of
total calorie composition outlined by this dietary plan is as follows: 40% carbohydrate, 30% fat,
30% protein. The amount of fat is dictated by the amount of protein consumed at each meal. The
role of fat in this diet plan is described by Dr. Sears as follows: slows the rate of carbohydrate
entry into bloodstream which reduces insulin response, releases hormone (CCK) from stomach to
tell brain to stop eating, and supplies the building blocks (essential fatty acids) for eicosanoids (http:
//www.users.cts.com/crash/d/dbrowndc/zonefaq.htm#Unfavorable). Therefore according to this
perspective, in order for the body to burn fat and weight loss to occur, insulin must be maintained
within a prescribed zone (Kirby, 1997).
This high protein diet is depicted as a life long hormonal control program which allows a person
to maximize full genetic potential. The zone diet allows a person to eat as if they were already at
their ideal percentage of body fat because stored calories are being hormonally released. The
advertised effects of this dietary plan on the body include: burns fat, fights heart disease, diabetes,
PMS, chronic

Sexual Assault At The West Chester University Of Pennsylvania
One in five women are sexually assaulted while in college (Not Alone, 2014). In our class of

women that I stated could have been sexually assaulted they may have known the perpetrator and

The European Union s Democratic Deficit
The European Union has greatly evolved over the decades since it has begun into a well evolved
quasi state of over 28 countries, and over five hundred million citizens. The European Union has
been regarded as a method to bring democratic stability and economic prosperity to less developed
democracies in East and Central Europe. Although the European Unionhas a mandate to bring all of
these standards, the European Union lacks these basic standards for their overall institution. This
structural problem has given the European Union its own democratic deficit . The rise of the
democratic deficit has arisen from many undemocratic characteristics of EU institutions, and a
lack of a demos or a lack of a single socio cultural European identity. In order for a political body
to remain legitimate, it must have the trust and support of the citizens it governs, and make changes
for the continuation of its future. In other words, if the European Union does not take action to
combat its democratic deficit, the future of the European Unions institution will be at risk. Another
serious issue is the European Union has seen democratic backsliding of many Eastern European
countries. This paper will discuss the major issues that the Democratic Deficit has caused for the
European Union, and what possible reforms can be done to help fix the democratic deficit. The
European Union is one of the world s greatest economic superpowers. Although the EU does not
have the police or military strength

Ancient Egypt-The Great Pyramid Of Giza
Egypt has had a complex history. At the beginning of recorded history, Egypt was ruled by god
kings called pharaohs. Each one attempted to outdo his predecessors in the scale and complexity of
his tomb. This competition led to Egypt s most recognizable monuments: the pyramids. Pharaohs
such as Djoser, Snefru, and Khufu built ever bigger monuments to their own glory and to the gods
they worshiped. What innovations were created in the path to the largest pyramid the Great
pyramid of Giza, and what caused those innovations?
In the 1st dynasty, pharaohs built their tombs at Abydos, on the west bank of the Nile. According
to Egyptian myth, the western desert was the land of the dead, due to the fact that the sun set in
the west and was reborn in the east. The pharaohs built mastabas, mounds of dirt and rock roughly
shaped like a brick. In the center of each structure, a shaft was dropped down for many feet. The

Online Shopping Problems
Introduction
There is no doubt that traditional brick and mortar retailers like us have seen a decline in sales
since the increased growth of e commerce. After researching the topic at hand, I have identified the
issues we face, and devised several solutions to aid us in our competition with online retailers.
Issues Sears Faces
The problem is, online retail is becoming the go to for convenience and customer service while
brick and mortar stores are struggling with sales growth. This problem is not only a Sears s
exclusive problem, but a shift in the way customers are shopping today. In order to further examine
this issue, I have first compared how other large brick and mortar retailers are doing in their
battles with Amazon. Walmart, for example, has seen incredibly slow growth while Amazon, is
growing on an exponential level. According to a 2014 article by fool.com, Walmart s five year
projected annual earnings growth rate was only about 7.9% while Amazon s was 46.6% (Duggan,
2014).
Consumers are turning to online retailers for cheaper prices, a more convenient shopping
experience, fast delivery, and a new technologically advanced way to shop. Traditional retailers
are in a price battle with stores like amazon that offer the same or similar products cheaper online.
Many times customers will even go to brick and mortar stores just to see the product in person
before shopping for better deals online. Shopping online has taken customers from brick and mortar
stores

Discrimination Against Black Males
Finding myself in a place I wasn t supposed to be became the catalyst for realizing the danger I was

Sometimes something as simple as hanging out with friends ends in almost losing your life. I had

raised like any other kid. I wasn t completely oblivious to the fact that i was black, in fact my
parents reminded me often that i wasn t the same as the kids I went to school with. Despite being

Balen The Sandman
The muses were often depicted in art as beautiful women, mystical and playful by nature. Women
who were often seen dancing and entertaining humans. For example, the oil on wood painting done
by Baldassare Peruzzi. In this painting the muses are represented very light heartedly. They are
gracefully dancing with the God Apollo; with skirts swirling and a hop in each muses step it is clear
to see that this is a joyous and carefree representation of them. However, paintings of the muses
were not always concerned with amusement. Another painting done by Hendrick van Balen the

In the television series Grimm created by Stephen Carpenter, David Greenwalt, and Jim Kouf,
the twentieth episode of season two is titled Kiss of the Muse. The episode uses a character who
takes on the persona of a muse. Although this muse is anything but its classic counterpart. In the
show the muses are referred to as Musai. They do not hold the classical appearance of a muse,
rather they are blue silver in complexion, with vibrant red hair, bright cyan eyes, and pointed ears
much like a nymph (Carpenter et al., 2013). This variant of the muse does not inspire humanity,
rather it feeds off the creativity of men. Grimm takes on a femme fatal approach to the character.
Musai in the show kiss their victims, driving them mad with obsession causing them to become
their devoted slaves. Often this results in men killing each other in devotion of their Musai. This
contrasts highly with the story written by Gaiman. In Gaiman s tale the muse was someone who
was helpless and in need of a saviour, in contradistinction Carpenter, Greenwalt, and Kouf turn the
muse into something much more dangerous. The men who fall under the spell of the muse s kiss
often fall into insanity or face death (Carpenter et al., 2013). In this tale the men are captives of the
muse rather than it being the other way around. The writers use the myth of the muses as a

The Childlike and Biblical Connotations in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Throughout his writing career, CS Lewis has been known for writing many books with a hint of
biblical connotations in them. As Kathryn Lindskoog states, CS Lewis is known for opposing the
spirit of modern thought with the unpopular Christian doctrines of sin and evil (2083). Lewis
himself has said, You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood
becomes a matter of life or death to you (Freaks 60). Although his belief in God has not yet
presented itself in that manner, he continues to devote his time to the artful presentation of what he

When the Aslan goes to meet his certain death at the hand of the Witch, the narrator refuses to
give a description of some of the creatures present for fear the grownups would probably not let
[children] read this book... (165). This technique establishes a friendly connection with reader. The
narrator shows a sense of concern for the well being of the readers, assuring them that he is on their
side. Yet another connection is the associative connection. Lewis uses words that a child can
associate with. Every child knows, loves and anticipates the idea of Father Christmas, and so when
Lewis explains that the White Witch has kept Father Christmas out of Narnia, he instills an idea in
the reader s mind that the Witch must be a terrible person. At another point in the book, Aslan
warns the children, if the witch is to be finally defeated before bedtime we must find the battle at
once (191). Here, Lewis uses a word, bedtime, which every child has heard and is familiar with,
allowing the child to better understand the story. Again, when Aslan (the symbol of Christ) dies, a
child may be able to better sympathize with the death of an animal rather than that of a great figure
who lived two thousand years ago. Even the fact that Lewis credits the resurrection of Aslan to the
Deep Magic provides a medium that explicates the much harder theological implications found in
the Bible (Brennan).

Maurice Sendak s Where the Wild Things Are, In the Night Kitchen, and Outside Over There The three titles of Maurice Sendak s famous picture book trilogy, Where the Wild Things Are, In the Night Kitchen, and Outside Over There, name what Judith Butler calls zones of uninhabitability, places of abjection that form the borders of the self as both its constitutive outside and its intimate interior. These are dangerous places in the geography of childhood, places where the child s very life and sense of self is threatened. More frightening still, they are present places, places that exist in the same time that the child inhabits, rather than the once upon a mythical time of fairy tales and legends. Hence they are places that beckon the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I would not go so far as other critics have done in claiming that this developmental narrative is the journey of a single everychild. That is abject logic indeed, since it frames itself as a monolithic story of what constitutes a clean and proper childhood, absent particularities. No, Sendak s characters are individuals who experience their bodies, their drives, and their desires as their own; their boundaries and borderlands are distinctly personal landscapes wherein they act their own particular corporeal dramas. Nor is the lesson regarding the abject monolithic across the trilogy. Sendak s vision in the first two books involves more than a once for all setting of the boundaries between self and other; the children learn the possibilities and limits of embracing alterity within themselves, or at least of mapping the space of and for otherness as part of their own psychic landscape. But in the third and final book, the book that signaled the end of Sendak s career as a children s book writer and illustrator and the beginning of his work in theater, Ida s encounter with abjection is more profound, less jubilant, and more in keeping with the general logic of abjection under which the adult subject is constituted. Since 1971, there has been some important and innovative changes in Atlantic Canadian historiography that has made an impact on our world. One of the greatest landmark s in Atlantic Canadian history, in my opinion, was the resurgence of treaties rights for the Mi gmaq and Maliseet nation. Thus, my focus for this essay will be on Mi gmaq historiography in regards to fishing and treaty rights in the maritimes. There have been three well known fishing disputes in Atlantic Canada, ranging from the 1981 the Listuguj Raid, to the 1999 Supreme Court ruling concerning the Donald Marshall Case, and a year later with the Burnt Church Crisis. It was also finally recognized because it was in written word, this was the only form that the governments would accept. However, today these challenges with oral traditions and court systems are still a commonplace, but there are some successful steps towards the court recognizing and affirming treaty and Indigenous rights. Some attest that these steps in trying to get the Canadian courts to meaningfully recognize treaty and Indigenous rights is more than challenging, it is nearly impossible in some cases because of the colonial governing structures of Canadian society. Popular Examples of High Protein Diets The Zone diet, as described in The Zone by Barry Sears, Ph.D. is an example of a protein adequate diet (http://web.usatoday.com/life/health/lhs641.htm). Small meals of fruits, vegetables, monounsaturated fats, and low fat proteins are advised to be eaten throughout the day. Sources of total calorie composition outlined by this dietary plan is as follows: 40% carbohydrate, 30% fat, 30% protein. The amount of fat is dictated by the amount of protein consumed at each meal. The role of fat in this diet plan is described by Dr. Sears as follows: slows the rate of carbohydrate entry into bloodstream which reduces insulin response, releases hormone (CCK) from stomach to tell brain to stop eating, and supplies the building blocks (essential fatty acids) for eicosanoids (http: //www.users.cts.com/crash/d/dbrowndc/zonefaq.htm#Unfavorable). Therefore according to this perspective, in order for the body to burn fat and weight loss to occur, insulin must be maintained within a prescribed zone (Kirby, 1997). This high protein diet is depicted as a life long hormonal control program which allows a person to maximize full genetic potential. The zone diet allows a person to eat as if they were already at their ideal percentage of body fat because stored calories are being hormonally released. The advertised effects of this dietary plan on the body include: burns fat, fights heart disease, diabetes, PMS, chronic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In our class of twenty women that means that possibly five women have been sexually assaulted. Out of the five women that I stated could have been sexually assaulted they may have known the perpetrator and often will not report what has happened. According to the spring count of students completed by West Chester University, 9,211 of those students were females ( Headcount Enrollment , 2014). If I go by the statistic mentioned earlier that one in five women is assaulted that would mean that 1,842 women have been sexually assaulted while enrolled at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Out of 1,842 possible assaults only four were reported last year. Two of which the victims knew prior to the assault. Rankin and Associates consulting conducted a Climate Assessment on West Chester University in September of 2010, a section of the results focused on sexual assault on students. According to the report seven people who reported a sexual assault to the university described their reactions to the universities response. Two students shared the way they felt the response was inappropriate or poor. One described that they felt the suspension for one semester was not an appropriate response to an admitted rape, that public safety lost the victims statement, judicial affairs painted the victim offender as innocent, and that the registrar protected the offender putting the victim in harm s way and everyone ... • 34. The European Union s Democratic Deficit The European Union has greatly evolved over the decades since it has begun into a well evolved quasi state of over 28 countries, and over five hundred million citizens. The European Union has been regarded as a method to bring democratic stability and economic prosperity to less developed democracies in East and Central Europe. Although the European Unionhas a mandate to bring all of these standards, the European Union lacks these basic standards for their overall institution. This structural problem has given the European Union its own democratic deficit . The rise of the democratic deficit has arisen from many undemocratic characteristics of EU institutions, and a lack of a demos or a lack of a single socio cultural European identity. In order for a political body to remain legitimate, it must have the trust and support of the citizens it governs, and make changes for the continuation of its future. In other words, if the European Union does not take action to combat its democratic deficit, the future of the European Unions institution will be at risk. Another serious issue is the European Union has seen democratic backsliding of many Eastern European countries. This paper will discuss the major issues that the Democratic Deficit has caused for the European Union, and what possible reforms can be done to help fix the democratic deficit. Each one attempted to outdo his predecessors in the scale and complexity of his tomb. This competition led to Egypt s most recognizable monuments: the pyramids. Pharaohs such as Djoser, Snefru, and Khufu built ever bigger monuments to their own glory and to the gods they worshiped. What innovations were created in the path to the largest pyramid the Great pyramid of Giza, and what caused those innovations? In the 1st dynasty, pharaohs built their tombs at Abydos, on the west bank of the Nile. According to Egyptian myth, the western desert was the land of the dead, due to the fact that the sun set in the west and was reborn in the east. The pharaohs built mastabas, mounds of dirt and rock roughly shaped like a brick. In the center of each structure, a shaft was dropped down for many feet. The bottom of that shaft was where ... • 37. Online Shopping Problems Introduction There is no doubt that traditional brick and mortar retailers like us have seen a decline in sales since the increased growth of e commerce. After researching the topic at hand, I have identified the issues we face, and devised several solutions to aid us in our competition with online retailers. Issues Sears Faces The problem is, online retail is becoming the go to for convenience and customer service while brick and mortar stores are struggling with sales growth. This problem is not only a Sears s exclusive problem, but a shift in the way customers are shopping today. In order to further examine this issue, I have first compared how other large brick and mortar retailers are doing in their battles with Amazon. Walmart, for example, has seen incredibly slow growth while Amazon, is growing on an exponential level. According to a 2014 article by fool.com, Walmart s five year projected annual earnings growth rate was only about 7.9% while Amazon s was 46.6% (Duggan, 2014). Consumers are turning to online retailers for cheaper prices, a more convenient shopping experience, fast delivery, and a new technologically advanced way to shop. Traditional retailers are in a price battle with stores like amazon that offer the same or similar products cheaper online. Many times customers will even go to brick and mortar stores just to see the product in person before shopping for better deals online. For example, the oil on wood painting done by Baldassare Peruzzi. In this painting the muses are represented very light heartedly. They are gracefully dancing with the God Apollo; with skirts swirling and a hop in each muses step it is clear to see that this is a joyous and carefree representation of them. However, paintings of the muses were not always concerned with amusement. In the television series Grimm created by Stephen Carpenter, David Greenwalt, and Jim Kouf, the twentieth episode of season two is titled Kiss of the Muse. The episode uses a character who takes on the persona of a muse. Although this muse is anything but its classic counterpart. In the show the muses are referred to as Musai. They do not hold the classical appearance of a muse, rather they are blue silver in complexion, with vibrant red hair, bright cyan eyes, and pointed ears much like a nymph (Carpenter et al., 2013). This variant of the muse does not inspire humanity, rather it feeds off the creativity of men. Grimm takes on a femme fatal approach to the character. Musai in the show kiss their victims, driving them mad with obsession causing them to become their devoted slaves. Often this results in men killing each other in devotion of their Musai. This contrasts highly with the story written by Gaiman. In Gaiman s tale the muse was someone who was helpless and in need of a saviour, in contradistinction Carpenter, Greenwalt, and Kouf turn the muse into something much more dangerous. The men who fall under the spell of the muse s kiss often fall into insanity or face death (Carpenter et al., 2013). In this tale the men are captives of the muse rather than it being the other way around. The writers use the myth of the muses as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Childlike and Biblical Connotations in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Throughout his writing career, CS Lewis has been known for writing many books with a hint of biblical connotations in them. As Kathryn Lindskoog states, CS Lewis is known for opposing the spirit of modern thought with the unpopular Christian doctrines of sin and evil (2083). Lewis himself has said, You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life or death to you (Freaks 60). Although his belief in God has not yet presented itself in that manner, he continues to devote his time to the artful presentation of what he believes to be true about God and man, as observed by Dr. Bruce ... When the Aslan goes to meet his certain death at the hand of the Witch, the narrator refuses to give a description of some of the creatures present for fear the grownups would probably not let [children] read this book... (165). This technique establishes a friendly connection with reader. The narrator shows a sense of concern for the well being of the readers, assuring them that he is on their side. Yet another connection is the associative connection. Lewis uses words that a child can associate with. Every child knows, loves and anticipates the idea of Father Christmas, and so when Lewis explains that the White Witch has kept Father Christmas out of Narnia, he instills an idea in the reader s mind that the Witch must be a terrible person. At another point in the book, Aslan warns the children, if the witch is to be finally defeated before bedtime we must find the battle at once (191). Here, Lewis uses a word, bedtime, which every child has heard and is familiar with, allowing the child to better understand the story. Again, when Aslan (the symbol of Christ) dies, a child may be able to better sympathize with the death of an animal rather than that of a great figure who lived two thousand years ago. Even the fact that Lewis credits the resurrection of Aslan to the Deep Magic provides a medium that explicates the much harder theological implications found in the Bible (Brennan). Just as Lewis ...
