Reflection On Conflict Theory
In this class, the idea of Conflict Theory was brought up very early on. I really enjoy the concept and
find it incredibly useful when considering complex topics. Conflict theory, which was originally a
concept in which Karl Marx is largely attributed, theorizes that conflict arises due to limited resources
and the competition to secure those resources. The theory says that as long as there is a limit on how
much of something there is (and since we all live on a giant ball that has a set amount of every
resource, there always will be), then there will be people who fight to have control of it. For me, I find
this theory in action everywhere, and I routinely use it as a logical deduction tool to deduce the
underlying motivations of those around me.
Whenever I see something strange happening around me, the first thing I do is ask myself: Who
profits from this? How do they profit? Why would they do that? After that, I ask myself who else
would want whatever is in question. For example, if I was asked to find a root cause for the ongoing
conflict in the middle east, I would ask who benefits from it. Once I do that, I would probably find that
a very large portion of the U.S. economy is derived from the import and export of petroleum, which is
highly abundant in the area. In fact, if the U.S. were to lose the oil imported from the middle east, then
disastrous wouldn t even come close to describing the economic turmoil that would ensue within the
United States. From this, I would undoubtedly conclude that the U.S. ( some other European
countries) are guilty of destabilizing the region in order to secure rights over their oil.
But this theory does not just apply to global issues. The idea of conflict applies everywhere, from

The MetroAccess Officers from Kingston and Bayside Councils are working with Surf Lifesaving
Club Victoria to run a trial first aid workshop for people with disabilities. We would like to invite 2 3
people from Marriott RTI to be involved. We have also extended an invitation to Central Bayside
Community Adult Options to be a part of the workshop.
The trainer is available on any day during the week beginning 27th April. The course goes for 3 hours
10am to 2pm. Lunch will be provided.
We will use this opportunity to modify the workshop to make the content more suitable for people
with disabilities (especially those who have an ID) for future training.

human resources and physical capital (Romer 1990). The formation of human capital is a continuous
process. The nation s literacy system is influenced by its socio economic and environment. Financing
in human capital proves effective when qualified labour force is cleverly used to play its role and to
step up the economic activities through government policy. The literacy rate is known to be a major
component of human capital and most of the underdeveloped nations also Bangladesh consume a big
part of their human development resource financing on education. Physical capital and human capital

Abstract: Tay Sach s disease results in an accumulation of lipids in the brain s nerve cells. The
underlying cause of Tay Sachs disease is a mutation in a gene that codes for a lytic enzyme known as
Hexosaminidase A (Hex A). Tay Sachs as well as other lipid storage diseases are incurable, but we
believe that gene therapy has the potential for widespread correction of the lipid storage defect in
humans by means of the cross correction cellular pathway. The vehicle of transportation for the

Functional Hex A enzymes are lytic enzymes, which degrade these old gangliosides and expel them as
waste. Patients with Tay Sach s have a mutation in the gene that codes for the Hex A enzyme, this
results in the lipid build up that can cause neuronal death which lead to the symptoms of Tay Sach s.
The most common form of Tay Sachs takes place during infancy. Infants with the disease usually
show no symptoms until four to six months of age, this is usually when their development and motor
skills tend to weaken. As the disease develops, the infants start to experience seizures as well as vision
and hearing loss. Paralysis and a drop in intelligence have also been observed. Children with Tay
Sachs usually live only to about five years of age. Because of the high lethality rate any measures
toward a cure must be aggressive. As of date there are no tested treatment options for the disease but
there are a few options that have shown promise for other lipid storage diseases.
Enzyme Replacement Therapy:
Gaucher s disease is a lipid storage disease similar to Tay Sach s because its deficiency of a lytic
lysosomal enzyme. Gaucher s disease is in regards to which parts of the body it affects. Tay Sach s
affects the CNS while Gaucher s affects the spleen and liver. The main treatment option of Gaucher s
is enzyme replacement therapy (ERT). The deficient lytic enzyme (glucoserebrosidase) is injected
