Does Medea Deserve Sympathy Essay
In Euripides Medea, there are moments when a specific character is deserving of sympathy, and
instances when they don t deserve any sympathy at all. In the beginning, Medea deserves sympathy
due to her husband leaving her for royalty and another woman. However, neither characters deserve
sympathy when Medea s tells of her plans of killing her children, and Jason s want for Medea to
become an exile. Towards the end, Jason deserves sympathy for trying to do what s best for his family
and the death of his children, but Medea deserves no sympathy for the killing of Glauce, Creon and
her children.
In the beginning of the play, Medea is deserving of sympathy due to her husband s betrayal towards
her. Characters, like the Nurse and Chorus feel the sorrow that Medea ... Show more content on

Medea s hurt and anger turns into rage when she plans to make corpses of three of [her] enemies,
which shows her ambition of creating catastrophe around her to make Jason suffer the
consequences. The plan of Medea wanting to kill Glauce and her children shows the audience that
Medea is plotting for revenge and will do anything to make Jason suffer. Jason also doesn t deserve
sympathy as his want for power and his strive for ambition is the main issue in this play. Jason left his
wife to marry Glauce, the princess of Corinth, to make his life more powerful. Jason doesn t want
Medea ruining his chances of staying in Corinth and one day becoming king. When he finds out
Medea is making plans, he makes sure that Medea knows that Corinth cannot be a home for [Medea]
anymore, which shows that Medea must become an exile again, in Jason s eyes, so that he can one day

Social Stratification According to Marx and Weber
Social stratification is the hierarchical arrangement of individuals into divisions of power and wealth
within a society. Social stratification relates to the socio economic concept of class, consisting of the
upper class, middle class, and lower class. Each class may be further subdivided into smaller classes
through the main indicator is occupation. This is the most practical and most effective means of
encompassing the wide variety of economic and social elements that go to make up a person s class
through their education, status, income and power. Evidence shows that wealth is distributed
unequally and that incomes vary from small to huge. The old idea of Britain s class structure was
comprised as a triangular shape; with increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this suggests that Britain s class structure is becoming fragmented.
On the other hand, Weberians suggests that the middle class is fragmented into competing status
groups for example, professionals and managers. Zweig (1961) argued that a section of the working
class has adopted the economic and cultural lifestyle of the middle class, the embourgeoisement
thesis. Since the 1960s, skilled manual workers have seen an improvement in wages and better living
standards, often exceeding those of some of the middle class. However, despite big improvements in
living standards and lifestyles, there are still differences that separate affluent manual workers from
the middle class which suggests that embourgeoisement has not occurred. For example, their high
wages were only obtained through overtime and shift working. Also, lack fringe benefits and have
limited promotion opportunities. This was shown in Goldthorpe and Lockwood s famous study of a
car factory in Luton (1969). However, they argue that there was signs of convergence between
working class and middle class lifestyles, but concluded that, rather than an increase in the middle
class, what had emerged was a new working class. Therefore, shows that the working class have
fragmented into at least two different ways, firstly the traditional working class, in decline and
typically situated in the North of England. Secondly, a new working class found in the newer

House Of Cards Research Paper
Further Implications House of Cards is undoubtedly a continuation of Shakespearian tragedy tradition
in a popular medium. With a 9/10 rating, the television series is a favorite amongst its many viewers,
some even praising it as the best Shakespeare adaptation of all time . However, aside from providing
entertainment, this television series is significant in a multitude of other ways. One of which is to
reflect a pessimistic view on American politics. While Bill Clinton asserted humorously that 99% of
House of cards is accurate, the 1% that s not accurate is that you can never pass an education bill that
fast , in all seriousness, the excessive treachery and murder is not an accurate depiction of everyday
Washington. Political Scientist Seth Masket expresses that as an entertainment program, very
mundane things are going to be excessively dramatized . Figure 6. Season 3 Episode 10: Francis

Political science graduate Miles Kellerman asserted that if House of Cards proceeds in the spirit of a
traditional Shakespearean tragedy , Underwood s clutch at power will prove ultimately self
destructive. This relates to how Shakespeare s tragedies emphasize poetic justice, meaning that the
antagonist would ultimately be punished, typically through death. Thus, Francis and Claire might face
the same fate in the following season, similar to how Shakespearian anti heroes such as Macbeth meet
their downfall after reaching the top of the political hierarchy. If the Shakespeare trajectory of
punishing the evil is followed in House of Cards, this show serves the social function of discouraging
politicians from misconduct. Audiences will also have a sense of justice as this outcome of Francis
reflects an ideal world where those that committed wrongdoings faces consequence, regardless of
power

Essay The Impact of the Vietnam War
For many Americans it is common knowledge to know about the Vietnam War; however, for some
Americans the Vietnam War is ancient history, dishonorable, but irrelevant nonetheless. If people do
not physically see the many horrors of war it is easy to forget; although maybe it is something we try
to forget. However, there are some who may be able to forget there will be some, like politicians, that
will not forget. The Vietnam War had a terrible impact on both the United States and Vietnam, and
more importantly it would affect foreign policy for many years to come. It is highly debatable for what
the reasons were for the Vietnam War beginning but for the most part the reason was to stop the spread
of communism. Communism was on the rise and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Rolling Thunder failed to weaken the enemy s will after the first several weeks the purpose of it
began to change. Bombings then tended to be directed at the flow of men and supplies from the north
(Karnow). Damaging as it was to the north, Ho Chi Minh still maintained the same course. Operation
Rolling Thunder was a desperate attempt to convince the North Vietnamese to initiate negotiations and
hopefully a ceasefire. This operation showed that LBJ was ineffective and ignorant. He was blind to
the fact that the North Vietnamese were obviously going to retaliate because of Operation Rolling
Thunder. The TET offensive was the retaliation of the North. The north surprised attacked many of the
cities and therefore making it so that we had to activate our reserves. It was a political and
psychological victory for them (Karnow), because it dramatically contradicted claims by the United
States government that the war was all but over. This offensive may have been insignificant because it
was a failure but it did send an intense message. Due to the ongoing offensives, controversy over the
war raged on. Tensions were not only rising in Vietnam but they were also rising on American soil.
Opposition to the war escalated as the casualties grew, which created divisions among people of the
American society. The United States government

Color and Painting
Los Angeles County Museum of Art
The museum that I visited was the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles. When I first
got to the museum, the first thing that caught my eye was the Urban Lights sculpture built in 2008
outside, by Chris Burden. The sculpture has two hundred and two restored cast iron antique street
lamps. The sculpture was painted in white and the actual size was 320 ½ x 686 ½ x 704 ½ inches.
Also the whole building had remarkable architectural features. As you walk from room to room, there
was a guard in each room. The atmosphere of the museum was very pleasant and comforting. The
artwork that was most fascinating was called Die Quelle (The Spring), made in about 1895. The artist
of this painting was Hans Thoma ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, this painting includes a lot of texture. This painting is well done, that you can see that
there is a lot of texture in the dress, the rocks, the trees and grass, and the water from the spring. Also
the scenery is so realistic, that it feels as if you are in the painting and you can actually touch the
leaves on the tree, the water from the spring, the baby angles, and the rocks.
Furthermore, this artwork also has rhythm, a sense of continuance and a feeling of movement by the
colors and the diagonal position of the bodies. There are many aspects that makes this artwork well
balance. One is that there is balance between light to dark. For example, the figures are lighter than the
background. Secondly, there is a good balance between large and small objects. The large and small
objects are well spread out throughout this artwork. And lastly, there is a good color balance
throughout the painting. Finally, the whole artwork has unity. All the elements come together and
become one great art piece. The elements of nature, the people, and the three muse are all different
elements that are put together and create a great work of art.
In the end, this piece of artwork is part of a fantasy and it is calming as well. The reason for choosing
this piece of artwork was because of its relaxing colors, calming landscape, angelic surroundings. My
overall museum experience was great and it was very people friendly. There were many helpful

The Mongols
Since prehistory, mankind has alter the environment for survival. For example, around 9000 B.C.E,
humans had cleared the land in Southwest Asia and sub Saharan Africa for agriculture. Humans have
innovated existing technologies to improve their adaption to the environment. In 3500 B.C.E, ancient
Sumerians develop the wheel. Wheeled plows carts allowed more efficient planting and transportation
of goods, while chariots provided new methods of invasion. Technologies has continued to improve
the lifestyle of humans enabling permanent settlements and complex societies. With technology,

that occurred in technology was weaponry. The reason for this change was humans need to protect
themselves, warfare, and hunting. An example of this would be the Mongols in 1200 C.E. when they
used what they have in their environment to develop the compound bow. The Mongols used bones
glued between a layers of wood. The compound bow helped Mongols conquer China. Living on the
steppes, the Mongols adapted to their environment by hunting and farming animals like sheep and
horses. The compound bow change military tactics since the ancient times were about chariots and
foot soldiers. The Mongols were horsemen who used attacking and retreating to win battles. Another
example of change in weaponry was the incendiary weapon of Greek fire which was develop in the
Byzantine Empire around 700 C.E. The Byzantine Empire had constant attacks from the Islamic
forces, so in order to protect themselves, Greek fire burned ships and soldiers. This weapon was
adapted to the strategic location of the Byzantine Empire as Constantinople was on a peninsula. This
weapon allowed the Byzantine Empire to exist till 1453 C.E. until the Ottoman Turks conquered

What Is The Theme Of Romanticism In Giselle Ou Les Willise
The ballet Giselle ou Les Willis was premiered at the Paris Opera on the 28th of June, 1841. The ballet
follows the protagonist Giselle an innocent peasant who falls in love with Albrecht the Duke of
Silesia, passing as a villager. When Giselle uncovers the truth behind Albrecht deceits she dies of a
broken heart and is transformed into a Willi, a supernatural being that has been left at the alter. Giselle
was created in the period known as the Romantic Era, which was named due to the influence of
romanticism throughout Europe in the 1800s. The development of modern Europe begun between the
1780s and 1849 which was an economic transformation that set the first stages of the great Industrial
Revolution. This period created changes that can be seen throughout the ballet Giselle with alterations
to costuming and theatrical innovations, which changed how the public perceived dance. Themes
symbolic of the time were generated and brought depth and emotion to previous one dimensional
storylines, as well as the development of how the roles of men and women in dance went against the
way of society.
Throughout the Romantic period the ideas of Romanticism in art and literature influenced the creation
of ballets. During this period ballets explored similar key themes of betrayal, love and a spiritual
connection between the living and dead, in which these themes reflected society at the time.
Throughout the romantic period society were facing hardship in which they looked to the

Canterbury Tales Corruption
Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales during the Middle Ages. The Prologue from The
Canterbury Tales is the part of the book that sets the setting and introduces the pilgrims. The purpose
of the book was to satirize the corruption within the church. Chaucer satirizes through the pilgrims
that are on a pilgrimage to Canterbury. He was a man of the church and did not like the corruption of
the church that was happening within the church. Among the pilgrims that are taking the trip; there is a
monk and a parson. Both of the pilgrims work in the church. The Monk was corrupt while the Parson
acted how Chaucer believed the workers of the should. While both the Monk and Parson work within
the church, they each have a different impact within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was a man of God and did not corrupt the church. The Parson was poor in money but rich in the
spirit. According to Chaucer he truly knew Christ s gospel (l. 491). He also taught it to the
parishioners the way the gospel should be taught. He believed that if a person was corrupt while
teaching the word of God, then the listeners would also be corrupted. That if gold rust, what then will
iron do? (l. 510). This quote means that if a priest, which represents the gold, is corrupted the
followers of the priest, represented by the iron, would also be corrupted. The Parson also followed
what he preached. He taught the truth about Christ and would never be proud while teaching it. The
Parson was one of the few pilgrims that Chaucer admired. He admired the Parson because he was a
man of God and also was a good example of the church. He was a good example by his teachings and
the way he acted. The Monk and the Parson were both similar because they held positions in the
church. That was one of the only similarities between the two. The main difference was that the Monk
was a corrupted official of the church. The Parson was not corrupted and a good man. This corruption
of the Monk and other church officials led to bad reputation of the church. Chaucer did not like the
corruption within in the church but did show how everyone was not corrupt but the majority

Recommendations for Nike
NIKE Executive Summary by Lawrence Gimeno Recommendations: Make it count My first
recommendation is directed at Nike s push into digital sports. In my opinion the new accelerometer
based Nike+ technology is the birth of a whole new generation of Nike products and an amazing
innovation to motivate people to include sports into their everyday life. Nike has attained a leading
role in almost every one of the upcoming world wide sporting events, such as the 2012 Olympics, the
2012 Soccer Euro Cup, the NFL Superbowl, the 2014 Soccer World Cup and the 2016 Summer

Looking at Nike s current flagship products and their presentations (NFL jerseys, Nike FlyKnit, Nike+
Technology it is obvious that the company is trying to move in the same direction as one company
who mastered this strategy Apple. Furthermore I think that publicly announcing these new product
presentations and staging them in an interactive and fancy way as well as making them available for
live streaming around the world on Nike s website or Facebook would quickly educate the potential
customer and create the same kind of demand like Apple is enjoying for their iPhone, iPad and Mac
product lines. Right now Nike is working on the development of a self lacing shoe as seen in the
movie Back to the Future 2 worn by the character Marty McFly . The company has acquired 65
patents in the process of constructing the shoe. The release of the shoe is rumored to take place in
2015, the year in which the movie takes place. Personally I see three potential outcomes of this move
by Nike. First of all, this technology is applicable to the athletic footwear products as well and could
revolutionize the fit of athletic shoes, giving Nike a further advantage over it s competitors by owning
a product that is very hard to emulate. Secondly it boosts the brands aura and identity significantly,
which leads me to my next point of Nike maybe moving into the fashion industry with this cult object.
However Nike has not yet confirmed any of this strategies.

Humanization Of Animals In The Priest s Tale
The Nun s Priest s Tale is one of the best and loved tale of all of the Tales, and the genre that Chaucer
uses in his tale is beast fable, which is one of Chaucer s successors. The narrator focuses mostly on the
relationship between human and animal telling those who find animals tales meaningless or without a
purpose, neglecting the tale itself. Chaucer takes us on a journey to explore in great detail how animals
can be humanized. In other words, how an animal can represent a human moral even if it is in a tale.
The Nun s Priest s Tale is considered a merry tale for many people, but it is ultimately not a
straightforward merry tale after all. Therefore, the main purpose of this story is to teach us a great

process they did at the warehouse. One of the main tasks is to determine what to do with the artifacts

Truth In The Colbert Report
True, as it is defined today as in accordance with fact or reality , was first recorded c.1200 (Online
Etymology Dictionary). True derives from the Old English triewe (West Saxon), treowe (Mercian),
meaning, faithful and trustworthy, from the Proto Germanic word trewwjaz, meaning having or
characterized by good faith . True, along with firm , strong , and sure is ultimately rooted in PIE dru,
meaning tree and steadfast as an oak (Online Etymology Dictionary). In mid 14c, truth was first
defined to denote a sense of something that is true , particularly in contrast to lie (Harper, 2017).
Historically, truth and what is true was a notion rooted in factual evidence and reality. In alignment

In 2009, the Nigerian writer Chimanda Ngozi Adichie presented a TED Talk where she spoke about
the danger of a single story . Upon moving to America from Nigeria, Adichie was surprised to
discover that American media presented a single image of Africa as an AIDS invested, poverty
stricken, catastrophic country (Adichie, 2009). The TED talk explains that truth is often incomplete, as
stereotypes and single stories are repeated indefinitely until they become accepted as fact. Virtual
algorithms effectively work to craft the illusion that there is only one narrative, as social media users
are entrapped in a filter bubble where they can only see content that aligns with their previously
tracked interests and beliefs (The Economist, 2016). As such, one s entire online world is crafted to
adhere and reinforce their believed truths, yet in reality, the content shown is only a small portion of
reality. When we reject the single story, when we realize that there is never a single story about any
place , Adichie claims, we regain a kind paradise (2009). Thus, For Adichie, the search for truth in a
world filled with untruthful stereotypes is a pursuit for paradise. In other words, exposing truth will set

Symptoms And Treatment Of Neuropathic Pain
Pain is a complex, unpleasant, and disruptive sensation. The day to day pain people experience from a
paper cut or a flu shot results from the activation of nociceptive receptors at the site of tissue injury,
which is known as nociceptive pain. Some individuals also have experience with a different type of
pain, one that is chronic, intractable, disabling, and it arises as a direct consequence of a lesion or
disease affecting the somatosensory system (Treede, 2008). This form of pain is neuropathic pain.
The term neuropathic pain is loosely used in the literature without a well defined classification system
and it broadly represents any syndromes with an underlying physiologic damage to the pain
transmission pathway (Treede, 2008). The causes of nerve tissue damage in neuropathic pain, whether
peripherally or central, are widespread. They range from nerve destruction during surgery or trauma to
metabolic disturbances, cancer, infectious diseases and other causes (Woolf, 1999). Common
symptoms suggestive of neuropathic pain are spontaneous or provoked sensory abnormalities such as
dysesthesia, paresthesia, allodynia, as well as complete sensory deficit in some cases. A few types of
neuropathic pain with manifestations in the head and neck region are trigeminal neuralgia,
glossopharyngeal neuralgia, post herpetic neuralgia and atypical facial pain. Dentists are in a unique
position where they are challenged on an almost daily basis to diagnose and treat pain in the orofacial

Parent Child Relationships In Romeo And Juliet
Johnnie Dent Jr. once said, As parents we have a tendency to overprotect; it s okay to try and show
them all positives but we cannot forget that the real world has teeth. The real world is a tough place
and parents knowing their kids are going to be going in it is a hard thing to think about. The author is
saying that yes the world is going to be tough and it s ok to show your kids the positives but remember
the world isn t all as it s said to be. The parent teen relationship plays an important role in Romeo and
Juliet by William Shakespeare and for teenagers today. Aspects of this relationship include romance,
communication, trust, and romance within teens.

The relationship will be stronger and information can be shared between each other easier.Parents can
also get mixed signals on how their teenagers are feeling towards things. In The Tragedy Of Romeo
and Juliet this problem is present. When the death of Tybalt occurs Juliet s parents think her sadness is
due to this which in reality it s because of the banishment of her husband Romeo. Teens can do one
thing and their parents can take it the whole other way. Teens soon start to think that their parents don
t understand how they feel about things. Parents can also take things their child says in a different way,
which can cause confusion and frustration. Parents have a different way they talk from their children
which can include lectures. In You Just Don t Understand, Craig, Judi E states Adolescent s eyes glaze
over when parents launch into lengthy explanations in an attempt to get teens to see a different point
of view. Because a parent senses that the teen has tunes off, she might repeat herself or cite more
examples, probably raising her voice at the same time. When communications skills begin to weaken
teenagers begin to hide things from parents because it is a struggle for them to get their point across
without having problems arise. Craig goes on to say that when parents continue to ask questions to
their teens they start to get aggravated. When a teen loses their temper they

Obesity In Mexico
Mexico is currently going through a nutrition transition. Mexicans are moving away from a traditional
diet toward a highly processed diet making them particularly vulnerable to chronic disease. Trade
liberalization plays a huge role in this regard. After NAFTA had been implemented in 1994, the
number of unhealthy food products from the United States to Mexico increased substantially.
According to FAO and the OECD, Mexico has one of the highest obesity rates in the world. According
to national nutrition survey, Mexico is leading the world in childhood obesity with 30% under 15
years, 40.8% are overweight over 15+, and 32.2% are obese, placing the country second in the world.

Compare And Contrast The Renaissance Art And The Birth Of...
Artist of Renaissance created sculptures, murals, drawings and paintings. The goal of most
Renaissance at was to show the importance of people and nature, not just religion. The Renaissance art
tried to show people as lifelike and engaged in everyday activities. They also tried to capture the world
as it is. Renaissance art reflects a rebirth of interest in the classical world. This style arrived late to
Valencia.
At those days, they could not sculpt as classical artist because all sculpture of this time was destroyed.
However, painting was easier to copy than construction. Even though no was easy to know how

Canvas also cost less than wood, but it was also considered to be less formal, which made it more
appropriate for paintings that would be shown in non official locations. The theme of the Birth of
Venus was taken from the writings of the ancient poet, Homer. According to the traditional account,
after Venus was born, she rode on seashell and sea foam to the island of Cythera. In the painting we
see here, Venus is prominently depicted in the centre, born out of the foam as she rides to shore. On
the left, the figure of Zephyrus carries the nymph Chloris as he blows the wind to guide Venus. On
shore, a figure that has been identified as the goddess of spring waits for Venus with mantle in hand.
The mantle billows in the wind from Zephyrus mouth. Botticelli paid much attention to her hair and
hairstyle. He gave Venus an idealized face, which is remarkably free of blemishes, and beautifully
shaded her face to distinguish a lighter side and a more shaded side. Of obvious importance in this
painting is the nudity

The Treasures Of The Musical Heritage
In ancient Greek societies, music was definitely one of the most consequential ways of utterance in
their societies. Greek mythology glorifies the richness and variety of the Greek music and instruments
in many legends. Music was a way for Greeks themselves, to exemplify their religious rituals and
traditions. We can have an idea of the impacts music had, in all aspects of their lives. Music was a part
of many events, rituals, and even played huge rolls in education. This essay will look at the treasures
of the musical heritage described in Greek mythology and other writings from ancient Greece, the
development of the lyre and the kithara, as two of the most widely used instruments during this time,

Sparta, Argos and Paros held the earliest such competitions from the 7th century BCE. In Hellenistic
times, musical festivals and competitions became so common that musicians and performing artists
began to organize themselves into guilds (Cartwright, M.). There were two types of music
competitions during this time. They were the stephanotis, which was more of a scared competition,
and chremites, which was a competition where the winners won prizes. Music not only plays a huge
part in celebrations and competitions, but it also was used a lot in schools. Gretans, were the first to
create schools that were dedicated to musical education. The heyday of music in the classroom was
during the 6th and 5th centuries BCE when schools of music were established in Athens where pupils
aged between thirteen and sixteen were taught to play the lyre and kithara and to sing, accompanied
by their teacher on the aulos (Cartwright, M.). Just as we see the rise in music being taught in schools,
we also see a rise in the creation of instruments. The instruments in ancient Greece consisted of string,
wind and percussion instruments. There were two instruments that were used by majority of
musicians. These two instruments are the aulos and the syrinx. The aulos, was also known as the
kalamos or libykos lotos, which referred to the material from which part of the instrument was made:

The Well Being Aristotle And Human Happiness
Our Well Being: Aristotle and Human Happiness What is the purpose of a human being? Happiness is
the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence (Nicomachean
Ethics). When one thinks about happiness, these words said by Aristotle allow us to understand its
significance. Through Aristotle s teachings, he made it clear that the point of life is to be happy.
Aristotle uses the word happiness as having to do with a person s life as a whole, and not as the
constant desire of wanting to experience pleasure (Aristotle s Ethics). People tend view happiness as
an emotion that is not long lasting, while it is really about accumulating the good experienced an
entire lifetime. To Aristotle, happiness is about flourishing, virtues, focusing on our well being, and
self sufficiency. Aristotle is an ancient Greek philosopher who has played a part in subjects such as
mathematics and ethics. As a known student of Plato, Aristotle s knowledge on various topics
immensely affected people s philosophical views. For Aristotle, his definitions of human happiness
and a good life consist of being virtuous all throughout life. Happiness comes from being an overall
good person; this is the best way to lead a life and give it meaning (Psychology Today). According to
Aristotle, happiness is a continuing achievement. Happiness is more a question of behavior and of
habit of virtue than of luck; a person who cultivates such behaviors and habits is able to bear his

Theme Of Fire In The Road
Light. Warmth. Danger. Destruction. Divinity. Survival. Love. Hope. In McCarthy s The Road, fire is
a symbol of many things and not only those mentioned. Throughout the novel we are told that the
father and the son are the good guys because they are carrying the fire (pp. 87, 136 ). It is mainly the
son the one who has the fire inside him, but we do not really realize what it makes reference to.
Nonetheless, in this paper I will try to give a broad compilation of the symbols that we can attach to
this element within Cormac McCarthy s novel, The Road. Fire might be a double edged sword. To
begin with, it is fire which has brought the world to that situation, for everything around the father and
the son is completely burnt and they are making their way through ashes. Here we see fire as an

I agree with Rambo when she states that We re carrying the fire is a statement of mission. [...] the
father has given their journey purpose (2008:104). They have to keep on walking south because

father is about to die, he says to his son that he cannot stay with him because he has to carry the fire he
has inside him (298) that is his mission; he is the most necessary element in a world where necessity is
all around. Therefore this makes me question whether carrying the fire is only an illusion the father
has created, an excuse to keep on walking and forgetting what they are leaving behind. As we are
going to see next, the boy is the man s last hope. The man is only living in order to save his son s life
and if the man dies, nothing will remain for the boy to continue fighting, thus the man has to give him
a purpose, a mission to keep on carrying the fire. What would become of us if we did not provide our

William Shakespeare is known for writing stories where the nobility of men is heavily tested. In
Shakespeare s play, Julius Caesar, there are plenty of men who love Rome and would do anything for
the goodness of Rome. Caesar was willing to give up lots of his money for the Roman citizens. Brutus

Antony sees when someone s intentions are good, even if they have a bad plan of action. Antony is
able to recognize nobility in men even if they have committed treacherous deeds.
Antony shows his nobility by avenging the death of Caesar, staying loyal to Caesar all the time, and
being able to recognize the nobility within a man, even if he is his enemy. Antony is able to follow

Dante Alighieri s Influence on Italian Culture
Dante Alighieri was a very well known and influential poet in early literature. amp;#8220;He was not
only a poet, he was also a philosophical thinker, an active politician, and a religious visionary ;
(Holmes 1). Dante was born in Florence in 1265, into the Guelph political party, one of the two main
parties in Florence. The Guelphs were aristocrats and nobles. They supported the church and papacy
and were against the Renaissance. Their opposition was the Ghibellini Party who consisted of the

His writings have been hailed amp;#8220;the pillars on which the European literary tradition has been
built ; (Dante: The Divine amp;#8230; Internet). The Divine Comedy is very influential and is
considered as the greatest piece of poetry in early European literature. amp;#8220;Dante amp;#8217;s
Divine Comedy has rightly been regarded as the supreme literary expression of a crucial stage in
European thought ; (Holmes 1). Dante also influenced the style of poetry by introducing a format that
consisted of three canticles each divided into 33 or 34 cantos. Many poets after him have copied this
format (Wilkins 12).
His most famous piece of literature, The Divine Comedy, is said to be important also because of
amp;#8220;It amp;#8217;s place in the history of the development of the Italian language ; (Dante:
The Divine amp;#8230; Internet). To understand this we need to look at the language and writings at
that time in history. During Dante amp;#8217;s lifetime different dialects of Italian were spoken in
different parts of the country (Dante Alighieri, 1265 1321 Internet). Dante was a very skilled writer
who wrote in both his Florentine Italian dialect and Latin, which was unusual since most scholarly
writings at that time were in Latin (Dante Internet). Dante however believed that the language of one
amp;#8217;s family was noble and he broke the traditions of those before him.

What Is My Dream In Life Essay
My dream in life is to become a professional longboarder. It has been a dream of mine for quite some

There are lots of tournaments competitions held for longboarding whether its speed, drifting, or just

my goal is to work up into actual competitions. I have tried drifting and it s hard to do, downhill speed
riding is also hard but I am starting to do it more often so I can get better at it. Drifting I m not the best
at it but I can sort of do it a little, I am also starting to crouch down on my board to help with speed
and turning. I have met some more people from longboarding thru town and alongside the canyon and
it s good experiences to hear what people have to say and the stories that they tell me. Not everyone I
meet longboards though I have meet people who ve traveled lots of places and explore and there really
positive nice people. The biggest reason I want to become a professional longboard would be because
it feels amazing to get out of the house and go explore to see what the world is made of. The world is
such a beautiful place and one day I would like to travel out of the country and go explore other parts
of the world and see what else is out there. Another big part of longboarding is having the right
equipment, I have the right board, wheels, and bearings I just need to get a helmet and pads for when I
go downhill. Longboarding is just apart of me and makes up some of who I am it helps me open my
mind to new things and ideas and helps me when I m stressed because anytime I know I am, I can just
grab my board and go out to see nature. Ever since I have started longboarding I ve become a more
physically active person, more positive about things, and just more peaceful within myself about who
I am. Whenever I go longboarding it s like my meditation it gets things off my mind and clears my

Descriptive Essay About Jazz
It was a sweltering 90 degrees on that summer day. Sheet music was strewn all over the floor. The fan
behind me whirred as I browsed the internet for new music. I was frustrated with the progress I had
made over the past couple of months in my quest to learn the art of playing jazz. This new form of
music puzzled me; after analyzing chord progression after chord progression, I felt like I hadn t
progressed since I started. My fanatical obsession with jazz started just as the school year was ending.
I had already been in my middle school s jazz ensemble for some time now, but all we played were
monotonous blues charts where my fellow bandmates and I would haphazardly attempt to improvise
over a pentatonic scale. My band director brought in her vinyl copy of Miles Davis landmark 1959
album, Kind of Blue as part of our weekly listening test. It transformed my understanding of jazz.
Before then the only jazz I knew was Chuck Mangione and David Benoit tunes my mom had put on
while cooking or driving. The haunting melodies of So What and Blue in Green were a complete
divergence from what were been playing throughout the school year. What I had witnessed was not
dance music, but an image of a smokey downtown jazz bar painted by Davis himself. And while the
rest of the ensemble passed it off as old man music , I wondered, how do I sound like that? And thus
began my investigation of jazz that day. I traded in my classical Rubank Intermediate Technique for

Analysis Of The Book The Of Socrates
Robbie Higdon
Professor Swinehart
Intro to Phil. Questions
15 October 2014
The fact that [Socrates ] trial came to court when it need not have done so, the handling of the trial
itself, and now this absurd ending which will be thought to have got beyond our control through some
cowardice and unmanliness on our part, since we did not save you, or you save yourself, when it was
possible (45e 46e). This quote from the text Crito, written by Plato, directly illustrates Crito s claim of
feeling ashamed on Socrates behalf and on behalf of his friends, if what happened was due to
cowardice on their part. In order for us to be able to validate this argument as persuasive or not, we
must first take a look at the definitions of courage and manliness.
Plato more clearly discusses these attributes of courage and manliness in one of his other works,
Laches. In the Laches, Socrates engages two generals, Nicias and Laches, in conversation. Laches first
defines a man of courage as one who does not run away from an enemy. So if Crito thought it was
cowardly of Socrates to take his punishment instead of escaping that brings up a major contradiction
in Laches definition. As we know, Socrates decides to stay and face his allegations in court, and
eventually die, instead of attempting an escape. This makes him a man of courage according to Laches
first definition. But, sure enough, Socrates proceeds to dispute Laches definition by saying that it does
not cover all the examples of courage,

Rhetorical Analysis Of Hippolytus
Euripides is known for starting his plays with a speech, which gives background information and
informs the reader what is going to occur later on in Hippolytus. Although this gives away the surprise
to the reader right from the start, it allows them to understand the reasoning behind the motive and
gives a better understanding. In the beginning scene, Aphrodite gives a speech about her hatred
towards Hippolytus, considering he did the worst thing possible, by not worship her since he hunts all
day and does not believe in sex. She then explains in the passage what she is going to do in revenge in
order to get back at him for his wrongdoings. It is clear how furious this makes Aphrodite and how it
makes her feel less powerful that she is not supported by Hippolytus. Aphrodite foreshadows what is
going to happen throughout the play, which informs only the reader of what is going to happen, while
the characters have no idea. Through numerous stylistic devices, lexical groups, and syntax, the
audience is able to get a much deeper and better understanding of why Aphrodite has such a hatred for
Hippolytus. The beginning of the scene is very powerful and persuasive. Aphrodite does everything in
her power to make sure not only Hippolytus but also the readers know how much authority she has
over the other characters. This is shown by litotes in the first line, where she is telling the reader how
much power she has by saying what she is not: I am powerful and not without a name

  • 2. Does Medea Deserve Sympathy Essay In Euripides Medea, there are moments when a specific character is deserving of sympathy, and instances when they don t deserve any sympathy at all. In the beginning, Medea deserves sympathy due to her husband leaving her for royalty and another woman. However, neither characters deserve sympathy when Medea s tells of her plans of killing her children, and Jason s want for Medea to become an exile. Towards the end, Jason deserves sympathy for trying to do what s best for his family and the death of his children, but Medea deserves no sympathy for the killing of Glauce, Creon and her children. In the beginning of the play, Medea is deserving of sympathy due to her husband s betrayal towards her. Characters, like the Nurse and Chorus feel the sorrow that Medea ... Medea s hurt and anger turns into rage when she plans to make corpses of three of [her] enemies, which shows her ambition of creating catastrophe around her to make Jason suffer the consequences. The plan of Medea wanting to kill Glauce and her children shows the audience that Medea is plotting for revenge and will do anything to make Jason suffer. Jason also doesn t deserve sympathy as his want for power and his strive for ambition is the main issue in this play. Jason left his wife to marry Glauce, the princess of Corinth, to make his life more powerful. Jason doesn t want Medea ruining his chances of staying in Corinth and one day becoming king. When he finds out Medea is making plans, he makes sure that Medea knows that Corinth cannot be a home for [Medea] anymore, which shows that Medea must become an exile again, in Jason s eyes, so that he can one day be king. Both Medea and Jason are in no need of sympathy from the audience, but once Medea commits the murders of Glauce and the children, Jason deserves sympathy from the audience while Medea deserves no ... • 3. Social Stratification According to Marx and Weber Social stratification is the hierarchical arrangement of individuals into divisions of power and wealth within a society. Social stratification relates to the socio economic concept of class, consisting of the upper class, middle class, and lower class. Each class may be further subdivided into smaller classes through the main indicator is occupation. This is the most practical and most effective means of encompassing the wide variety of economic and social elements that go to make up a person s class through their education, status, income and power. Evidence shows that wealth is distributed unequally and that incomes vary from small to huge. The old idea of Britain s class structure was comprised as a triangular shape; with increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this suggests that Britain s class structure is becoming fragmented. On the other hand, Weberians suggests that the middle class is fragmented into competing status groups for example, professionals and managers. Zweig (1961) argued that a section of the working class has adopted the economic and cultural lifestyle of the middle class, the embourgeoisement thesis. Since the 1960s, skilled manual workers have seen an improvement in wages and better living standards, often exceeding those of some of the middle class. However, despite big improvements in living standards and lifestyles, there are still differences that separate affluent manual workers from the middle class which suggests that embourgeoisement has not occurred. For example, their high wages were only obtained through overtime and shift working. Also, lack fringe benefits and have limited promotion opportunities. This was shown in Goldthorpe and Lockwood s famous study of a car factory in Luton (1969). However, they argue that there was signs of convergence between working class and middle class lifestyles, but concluded that, rather than an increase in the middle class, what had emerged was a new working class. Therefore, shows that the working class have fragmented into at least two different ways, firstly the traditional working class, in decline and typically situated in the North of England. Secondly, a new working class found in the newer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. House Of Cards Research Paper Further Implications House of Cards is undoubtedly a continuation of Shakespearian tragedy tradition in a popular medium. With a 9/10 rating, the television series is a favorite amongst its many viewers, some even praising it as the best Shakespeare adaptation of all time . However, aside from providing entertainment, this television series is significant in a multitude of other ways. One of which is to reflect a pessimistic view on American politics. While Bill Clinton asserted humorously that 99% of House of cards is accurate, the 1% that s not accurate is that you can never pass an education bill that fast , in all seriousness, the excessive treachery and murder is not an accurate depiction of everyday Washington. Political Scientist Seth Masket expresses that as an entertainment program, very mundane things are going to be excessively dramatized . Figure 6. Political science graduate Miles Kellerman asserted that if House of Cards proceeds in the spirit of a traditional Shakespearean tragedy , Underwood s clutch at power will prove ultimately self destructive. This relates to how Shakespeare s tragedies emphasize poetic justice, meaning that the antagonist would ultimately be punished, typically through death. Thus, Francis and Claire might face the same fate in the following season, similar to how Shakespearian anti heroes such as Macbeth meet their downfall after reaching the top of the political hierarchy. If the Shakespeare trajectory of punishing the evil is followed in House of Cards, this show serves the social function of discouraging politicians from misconduct. Audiences will also have a sense of justice as this outcome of Francis reflects an ideal world where those that committed wrongdoings faces consequence, regardless of power ... • 6. Essay The Impact of the Vietnam War For many Americans it is common knowledge to know about the Vietnam War; however, for some Americans the Vietnam War is ancient history, dishonorable, but irrelevant nonetheless. If people do not physically see the many horrors of war it is easy to forget; although maybe it is something we try to forget. However, there are some who may be able to forget there will be some, like politicians, that will not forget. The Vietnam War had a terrible impact on both the United States and Vietnam, and more importantly it would affect foreign policy for many years to come. It is highly debatable for what the reasons were for the Vietnam War beginning but for the most part the reason was to stop the spread of communism. Communism was on the rise and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Rolling Thunder failed to weaken the enemy s will after the first several weeks the purpose of it began to change. Bombings then tended to be directed at the flow of men and supplies from the north (Karnow). Damaging as it was to the north, Ho Chi Minh still maintained the same course. Operation Rolling Thunder was a desperate attempt to convince the North Vietnamese to initiate negotiations and hopefully a ceasefire. This operation showed that LBJ was ineffective and ignorant. He was blind to the fact that the North Vietnamese were obviously going to retaliate because of Operation Rolling Thunder. The TET offensive was the retaliation of the North. The north surprised attacked many of the cities and therefore making it so that we had to activate our reserves. It was a political and psychological victory for them (Karnow), because it dramatically contradicted claims by the United States government that the war was all but over. This offensive may have been insignificant because it was a failure but it did send an intense message. Due to the ongoing offensives, controversy over the war raged on. Tensions were not only rising in Vietnam but they were also rising on American soil. Opposition to the war escalated as the casualties grew, which created divisions among people of the American society. The United States government ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I first got to the museum, the first thing that caught my eye was the Urban Lights sculpture built in 2008 outside, by Chris Burden. The sculpture has two hundred and two restored cast iron antique street lamps. The sculpture was painted in white and the actual size was 320 ½ x 686 ½ x 704 ½ inches. Also the whole building had remarkable architectural features. As you walk from room to room, there was a guard in each room. The atmosphere of the museum was very pleasant and comforting. In addition, this painting includes a lot of texture. This painting is well done, that you can see that there is a lot of texture in the dress, the rocks, the trees and grass, and the water from the spring. Also the scenery is so realistic, that it feels as if you are in the painting and you can actually touch the leaves on the tree, the water from the spring, the baby angles, and the rocks. Furthermore, this artwork also has rhythm, a sense of continuance and a feeling of movement by the colors and the diagonal position of the bodies. There are many aspects that makes this artwork well balance. One is that there is balance between light to dark. For example, the figures are lighter than the background. Secondly, there is a good balance between large and small objects. The large and small objects are well spread out throughout this artwork. And lastly, there is a good color balance throughout the painting. Finally, the whole artwork has unity. All the elements come together and become one great art piece. The elements of nature, the people, and the three muse are all different elements that are put together and create a great work of art. In the end, this piece of artwork is part of a fantasy and it is calming as well. The reason for choosing this piece of artwork was because of its relaxing colors, calming landscape, angelic surroundings. My overall museum experience was great and it was very people friendly. The ballet follows the protagonist Giselle an innocent peasant who falls in love with Albrecht the Duke of Silesia, passing as a villager. When Giselle uncovers the truth behind Albrecht deceits she dies of a broken heart and is transformed into a Willi, a supernatural being that has been left at the alter. The development of modern Europe begun between the 1780s and 1849 which was an economic transformation that set the first stages of the great Industrial Revolution. According to Chaucer he truly knew Christ s gospel (l. 491). He also taught it to the parishioners the way the gospel should be taught. He believed that if a person was corrupt while teaching the word of God, then the listeners would also be corrupted. That if gold rust, what then will iron do? (l. 510). This quote means that if a priest, which represents the gold, is corrupted the followers of the priest, represented by the iron, would also be corrupted. The Parson also followed what he preached. He taught the truth about Christ and would never be proud while teaching it. The Parson was one of the few pilgrims that Chaucer admired. He admired the Parson because he was a man of God and also was a good example of the church. He was a good example by his teachings and the way he acted. The Monk and the Parson were both similar because they held positions in the church. That was one of the only similarities between the two. The main difference was that the Monk was a corrupted official of the church. The Parson was not corrupted and a good man. • 12. Recommendations for Nike NIKE Executive Summary by Lawrence Gimeno Recommendations: Make it count My first recommendation is directed at Nike s push into digital sports. In my opinion the new accelerometer based Nike+ technology is the birth of a whole new generation of Nike products and an amazing innovation to motivate people to include sports into their everyday life. Nike has attained a leading role in almost every one of the upcoming world wide sporting events, such as the 2012 Olympics, the 2012 Soccer Euro Cup, the NFL Superbowl, the 2014 Soccer World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Therefore the time is now for Nike to embed their customers and the fans of these major sporting events in the experience through their new technology. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at Nike s current flagship products and their presentations (NFL jerseys, Nike FlyKnit, Nike+ Technology it is obvious that the company is trying to move in the same direction as one company who mastered this strategy Apple. Furthermore I think that publicly announcing these new product presentations and staging them in an interactive and fancy way as well as making them available for live streaming around the world on Nike s website or Facebook would quickly educate the potential customer and create the same kind of demand like Apple is enjoying for their iPhone, iPad and Mac product lines. Right now Nike is working on the development of a self lacing shoe as seen in the movie Back to the Future 2 worn by the character Marty McFly . The company has acquired 65 patents in the process of constructing the shoe. The release of the shoe is rumored to take place in 2015, the year in which the movie takes place. Personally I see three potential outcomes of this move by Nike. First of all, this technology is applicable to the athletic footwear products as well and could revolutionize the fit of athletic shoes, giving Nike a further advantage over it s competitors by owning a product that is very hard to emulate. Secondly it boosts the brands aura and identity significantly, which leads me to my next point of Nike maybe moving into the fashion industry with this cult object. However Nike has not yet confirmed any of this strategies. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Humanization Of Animals In The Priest s Tale The Nun s Priest s Tale is one of the best and loved tale of all of the Tales, and the genre that Chaucer uses in his tale is beast fable, which is one of Chaucer s successors. The narrator focuses mostly on the relationship between human and animal telling those who find animals tales meaningless or without a purpose, neglecting the tale itself. Chaucer takes us on a journey to explore in great detail how animals can be humanized. In other words, how an animal can represent a human moral even if it is in a tale. The Nun s Priest s Tale is considered a merry tale for many people, but it is ultimately not a straightforward merry tale after all. I went there for 3 days to complete the project. On the first day, Jim gave a brief introduction about the warehouse and the types of work they do there. I was surprised when Jim explained that the warehouse is mostly run by volunteers. Then, he introduced me about the main process they did at the warehouse. One of the main tasks is to determine what to do with the artifacts received through various means such as from donations, buying and other methods. As the storage space is limited, it is important to decide what to keep. Unwanted items are either transfer to other museums/archives, sell it for fund or simply throw it away. What items ... The TED talk explains that truth is often incomplete, as stereotypes and single stories are repeated indefinitely until they become accepted as fact. Virtual algorithms effectively work to craft the illusion that there is only one narrative, as social media users are entrapped in a filter bubble where they can only see content that aligns with their previously tracked interests and beliefs (The Economist, 2016). As such, one s entire online world is crafted to adhere and reinforce their believed truths, yet in reality, the content shown is only a small portion of reality. • 19. Symptoms And Treatment Of Neuropathic Pain Pain is a complex, unpleasant, and disruptive sensation. The day to day pain people experience from a paper cut or a flu shot results from the activation of nociceptive receptors at the site of tissue injury, which is known as nociceptive pain. Some individuals also have experience with a different type of pain, one that is chronic, intractable, disabling, and it arises as a direct consequence of a lesion or disease affecting the somatosensory system (Treede, 2008). This form of pain is neuropathic pain. The term neuropathic pain is loosely used in the literature without a well defined classification system and it broadly represents any syndromes with an underlying physiologic damage to the pain transmission pathway (Treede, 2008). The causes of nerve tissue damage in neuropathic pain, whether peripherally or central, are widespread. They range from nerve destruction during surgery or trauma to metabolic disturbances, cancer, infectious diseases and other causes (Woolf, 1999). Common symptoms suggestive of neuropathic pain are spontaneous or provoked sensory abnormalities such as dysesthesia, paresthesia, allodynia, as well as complete sensory deficit in some cases. A few types of neuropathic pain with manifestations in the head and neck region are trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, post herpetic neuralgia and atypical facial pain. • 24. The Well Being Aristotle And Human Happiness Our Well Being: Aristotle and Human Happiness What is the purpose of a human being? Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence (Nicomachean Ethics). When one thinks about happiness, these words said by Aristotle allow us to understand its significance. Through Aristotle s teachings, he made it clear that the point of life is to be happy. Aristotle uses the word happiness as having to do with a person s life as a whole, and not as the constant desire of wanting to experience pleasure (Aristotle s Ethics). People tend view happiness as an emotion that is not long lasting, while it is really about accumulating the good experienced an entire lifetime. To Aristotle, happiness is about flourishing, virtues, focusing on our well being, and self sufficiency. Aristotle is an ancient Greek philosopher who has played a part in subjects such as mathematics and ethics. As a known student of Plato, Aristotle s knowledge on various topics immensely affected people s philosophical views. For Aristotle, his definitions of human happiness and a good life consist of being virtuous all throughout life. Happiness comes from being an overall good person; this is the best way to lead a life and give it meaning (Psychology Today). According to Aristotle, happiness is a continuing achievement. Longboarding is just apart of me and makes up some of who I am it helps me open my mind to new things and ideas and helps me when I m stressed because anytime I know I am, I can just grab my board and go out to see nature. Ever since I have started longboarding I ve become a more physically active person, more positive about things, and just more peaceful within myself about who I am. Whenever I go longboarding it s like my meditation it gets things off my mind and clears my head having me think of positive things instead of negative. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Descriptive Essay About Jazz It was a sweltering 90 degrees on that summer day. Sheet music was strewn all over the floor. The fan behind me whirred as I browsed the internet for new music. I was frustrated with the progress I had made over the past couple of months in my quest to learn the art of playing jazz. This new form of music puzzled me; after analyzing chord progression after chord progression, I felt like I hadn t progressed since I started. My fanatical obsession with jazz started just as the school year was ending. I had already been in my middle school s jazz ensemble for some time now, but all we played were monotonous blues charts where my fellow bandmates and I would haphazardly attempt to improvise over a pentatonic scale. My band director brought in her vinyl copy of Miles Davis landmark 1959 album, Kind of Blue as part of our weekly listening test. It transformed my understanding of jazz. Before then the only jazz I knew was Chuck Mangione and David Benoit tunes my mom had put on while cooking or driving. The haunting melodies of So What and Blue in Green were a complete divergence from what were been playing throughout the school year. What I had witnessed was not dance music, but an image of a smokey downtown jazz bar painted by Davis himself. And while the rest of the ensemble passed it off as old man music , I wondered, how do I sound like that? And thus began my investigation of jazz that day. I traded in my classical Rubank Intermediate Technique for Saxophone for The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Analysis Of The Book The Of Socrates Robbie Higdon Professor Swinehart Intro to Phil. Questions 15 October 2014 The fact that [Socrates ] trial came to court when it need not have done so, the handling of the trial itself, and now this absurd ending which will be thought to have got beyond our control through some cowardice and unmanliness on our part, since we did not save you, or you save yourself, when it was possible (45e 46e). This quote from the text Crito, written by Plato, directly illustrates Crito s claim of feeling ashamed on Socrates behalf and on behalf of his friends, if what happened was due to cowardice on their part. In order for us to be able to validate this argument as persuasive or not, we must first take a look at the definitions of courage and manliness. Plato more clearly discusses these attributes of courage and manliness in one of his other works, Laches. In the Laches, Socrates engages two generals, Nicias and Laches, in conversation. Laches first defines a man of courage as one who does not run away from an enemy. So if Crito thought it was cowardly of Socrates to take his punishment instead of escaping that brings up a major contradiction in Laches definition. As we know, Socrates decides to stay and face his allegations in court, and eventually die, instead of attempting an escape. This makes him a man of courage according to Laches first definition. But, sure enough, Socrates proceeds to dispute Laches definition by saying that it does not cover all the examples of courage, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Rhetorical Analysis Of Hippolytus Euripides is known for starting his plays with a speech, which gives background information and informs the reader what is going to occur later on in Hippolytus. Although this gives away the surprise to the reader right from the start, it allows them to understand the reasoning behind the motive and gives a better understanding. In the beginning scene, Aphrodite gives a speech about her hatred towards Hippolytus, considering he did the worst thing possible, by not worship her since he hunts all day and does not believe in sex. She then explains in the passage what she is going to do in revenge in order to get back at him for his wrongdoings. It is clear how furious this makes Aphrodite and how it makes her feel less powerful that she is not supported by Hippolytus. Aphrodite foreshadows what is going to happen throughout the play, which informs only the reader of what is going to happen, while the characters have no idea. Through numerous stylistic devices, lexical groups, and syntax, the audience is able to get a much deeper and better understanding of why Aphrodite has such a hatred for Hippolytus. The beginning of the scene is very powerful and persuasive. Aphrodite does everything in her power to make sure not only Hippolytus but also the readers know how much authority she has over the other characters. This is shown by litotes in the first line, where she is telling the reader how much power she has by saying what she is not: I am powerful and not without a name ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
