Walt Disney Corporation
Founded in 1923, the Walt Disney Company has predicated itself as the world s best in the family
entertainment business. After 80 years in the business, who could argue with that statement?
Today, Walt DisneyCorporation dominates the market of family entertainment. An unparalleled
experience is the direct affect of superior quality, innovative content, and brilliant storytelling. To
capture such a highly diverse market, Walt Disney has divided itself into four main business
segments: Studio Entertainment, Parks and Resorts, Consumer Products, and Media ... Show more

Current stock prices are hovering around $30 per share ( The Walt Disney Company, 1996). Walt
Disney Corporation can contribute much of its success to a large number of resources, superior
experience, and its low cost strategy. The company has developed a well known brand name that
has lead to high brand loyalty. This has given the organization the ability to adapt when product line
sales decrease. At the same time, financial stability has allowed Walt Disney Corporation to extend
its product line and services into home video, film, merchandise, radio broadcasting, network
television, and theme parks ( The Walt Disney Company, 1996). As product line sales declined in
the US, Disney has effectively expanded its operations to Japan and Europe. Overall, financial
stability is one of Walt Disney s primary internal strengths, giving the firm flexibility to submerge
into a variety of different markets and expand operations globally. Innovative thinking by Disney
employees has been critical to the company s success. Employees have highly contributed to several
box office hits in Disney productions. Creative and unique ideas this firm continually produces has
overshadowed much of the competition. In an industry where extreme amounts of capital
investments are required for new market entrants, Walt Disney has intimidated many new market
entrants by dominating the market of entertainment. Much of

Analysis Of Maddy Whittier s Life
Eighteen year old Maddy Whittier lives her life in a bit of a bubble. This can be a clichГ© for
some people but for Maddy, it s much more than that. SCID is the acronym for Severe Combined
Immune Deficiency and victims of this dreadful disease must live in isolation from the outside
world for fear of germs and contamination that can lead to death. This describes Maddy s world
where she lives at home with her mother Pauline (who is also her doctor) and Carla, her long
time nurse and friend. Maddy seems resigned to a lifetime of books, movies, and board games in
her sterile but safe home. Her over protective mom dotes on her and there s no denying the deep
love they share. With the death of Maddy s brother and father many years before

Narcissistic Personality Inventory
Narcissism is a trait described as having feelings of self love and self admiration, a general
defensive orientation, and a constellation of attitudes that characterize a person s relationships with
others such as feelings of entitlement involving the expectation of special privileges over others,
special exemptions from normal social demands, suspiciousness, and jealousy (Raskin Terry, 1988,
p. 890). The Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) is the measure most commonly used to assess
these traits of narcissismin one s personality. When taking this measure I scored a 5, where the
average score is 15.3, a low score is considered one close to 8.5, and an extremely low score is a 2
or below. Therefore, my level of narcissism as a personality... Show more content on

Blincoe, Dewall, Gilbert, Haak, Keller and Widiger (2014) conducted a study to examine the
affiliation between narcissism and conflict behaviors within a romantic dyad in order to explain
four hypotheses: individual narcissism will be associated with partner narcissism, greater
narcissism will be related to self conflict behaviors, greater narcissism will be related to partners
negative conflict behaviors, and male and female narcissism will interact (Keller et al., 2014, p.
34 39). This study was conducted by collecting data from 190 college student couples where
measures of narcissism, level of conflict in their relationship, and depressive symptoms to use as a
control variable for results, were taken. Subsets of couples were then asked to participate in a
competitive reaction time task to behaviorally assess aggressive tendencies towards their partner
during conflict. It was found that the four hypotheses had supporting data that agreed with each;
the first being that there is significant relation of narcissistic traits between males and females in a
relationship, which could be due to the tendency to choose partners that have similar qualities and
beliefs as you. The second being that narcissism is directly related to a person s negative behavior
within a relationship, the third that narcissists are more likely to be victimized by their

The New Woman in Fanu s Carmilla, Stoker s Dracula, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The correlation between the vampire, a figure that is usually regarded as the subject of social
ostracism, and the New Woman, the advent of which was feared by the majority of the British
Victorian patriarchy, was a prominent aspect of much mid to late Victorian era literature.
Supplementary evidence to support the compelling Victorian era literary connection between the
vampire and the New Womancan be extrapolated from the unique gender role standards that
defined that socially complex era. As Catherine Siemann suggests in her essay, Darkness Falls on
the Endless Summer: Buffy as Gidget for the Fin de Siecle, the Victorian New Woman s personal...

In order to reinforce as loudly and clearly as possible the patriarchal message that in Victorian
society, New Women were to be regarded as social pariahs, the ultimate destruction of these
literary characters had to be performed in the most savage manner feasible, the brutality of which
is almost beyond belief. In Carmilla, prior to her slaughter, the male characters, representative of
the Victorian patriarchy, dehumanize the vampire Carmilla, by no longer referring to her by name;
Carmilla is simply reduced to being referred to as the vampire and the body. Dehumanization
eliminates Carmilla s individuality, metaphorically suggesting that her fate is the destiny that
awaits all New Women. Carmilla s execution is described as follows:
The body, therefore, in accordance with the ancient practice, was raised, and a sharp stake
driven through the heart of the vampire, who uttered a piercing shriek at the moment, in all
respects such as might escape from a living person in the last agony. Then the head was struck
off, and a torrent of blood flowed from the severed neck. The body and head were next placed on a
pile of wood, and reduced to ashes, which were thrown upon the river and borne away, and that
territory has never since been plagued by the visits of a vampire. (Le Fanu 336)

Stereotypes In Chris Lilley s Summer Heights High
As a society in the land down under , certain personality profiles are viewed as the class clowns
of the community, just by the way they act. Chris Lilley s cleverly produced mockumentary,
Summer Heights High (SHH), adopts these stereotypes presenting them as immensely
exaggerated representations. Lilley s show comprises of Ja mie King, a snobby and
manipulative private school girl, Mr G, a self absorbed drama teacher, and Jonah Takalua, a
rebellious 15 year old boy of Tongan descent, commonly associated with the phrase, Puck you
miss . Although SHH is socially accepted as Australian comedy by the blokes and sheilas of
Straya, foreign countries don t always align with our satirical gag shows.
In SHH, each of the characters was acted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonah is what is viewed as a delinquent child. Although, his character is the most important for
SHH. This class clown has quite the record, attending three schools in 18 months. Two of his
expulsions include setting a flame a student s locker and defecating the principles car by spray
painting a penis on the bonnet. His behaviour in SHH is by far the most ludicrous, as his
difficulty in adopting t he English language is demonstrated by his broken speech and impulsive
language. Consistently naming anyone he doesn t like as a homo and labelling a ginger coloured
student as a ranga . Sorry, ranga. One of the most absurd acts made by Jonah was when he
convinced the student councillor to believe that his father was molesting him, specifically to
prevent him from doing a speech due the next day. Possibly one of the greatest moments of
Summer Heights High. However his character is a great example of an obstacle the education
system has still not overcome. Jonah is a recognisable figure in all schools, representing the group
of students that fall behind their peers due to their inadequate learning abilities. In an attempt to
cover up their failures, they show off with bravado and disruptive behaviour. Although Lilley wears
the brown face to further play the character of a Tongan teen (which is commonly considered taboo
in the film industry), some critics argue that he does not understand the burden of being brown.

Compromise In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
Compromise has proven to set back our society by being to delicate of personal relationships.
Instead we should be able to recognize when we believe a certain situation can better a
civilization and stick to our ethics in order to further advance our world as we ve done for
centuries. Compromise can be useful in building personal relationships however, when we
abandon our ideas and leave them astray we are proving a weak link in the basic principles that
has helped us as a community thrive until this point. Too much willingness to compromise has
caused our world to be too focused on our feelings rather than advancing our society to better our
needs (Schneider, pg. 1). Albert Einstein himself said beware of rotten compromises. This sentence

Although compromise does a good job of connecting us on an emotional level, it doesn t do very
much at all for our advancement as a society. If we compromise on important issues the overall
drive to succeed will leave because we will be expecting to be pleased no matter the outcome
and the motivation to do great things will eventually decrease. When we stick to our ethics and
the basic ideals of life, society advances in ways that benefit the lives of us and those around us
in ways that we don t see right away. If the evidence provided doesn t do justice to this fact, look
around at the life you are living and pay attention to the things you are gifted to have because of
those who refused to back down in the face of adversity and decided that close enough wasn t

just to name a few. Too much willingness to compromise has caused our world to be too focused

He is a 57 years old male who is married and have three kids. About 70% of people earn 80% or a

The Five Generalizations Essay
Adrian Medina
Module 2
FIN400 Analyzing Financial Statements
CSU Global
Dr. Osman Masahudu
The five generalizations that I believe are from the findings in the case study The Dangerous
Morality of Managing Earnings go back to the code of ethics that the SEC has set in place. The
first is Honest and ethical conduct, (Gibson, C.H. 2011) which a lot of the managers showed that
they were not honest by doing what they felt necessary to show a positive bottom line. The second
generalization is the full, fair, accurate, timely, and understandable disclosure in reports and
documents that a company files, (Gibson, C.H. 2011). By doing whatever it takes to try and
improve the short term the managers are not truly being truthful ... Show more content on

Ethical decision making is deeply rooted in cultural values. Cultural norms concerning what is right
and wrong, acceptable and unacceptable, good and bad , and important and unimportant shape one
s beliefs regarding the world around us, including the business environment, (Geiger, M.A.,
Quirvan, C. Hazera, A. 2007). Management s ability to manage the earnings in the long run is that
they will not have any earnings in the long run if the type of manipulation that is going keeps
occurring. The quote from one of the examples, On accounting manipulations, a profit center
controller reported: Accounting is grey. Very little is absolute...You can save your company by
doing things with sales and expenses, and, if it s legal, then you are justified in doing it,
(Gibson, C.H. 2011). This speaks volumes that these type of people don t care about the true
bottom line all they care about is finding a way to manipulate it. In the long term you will effect
everything what you do in the short term. The other example would be the following: Last year
we called our customers and asked if they could take early delivery. We generated an extra
$300,000 in sales at the last minute. We were scratching for everything. We made our plans, but
we cleaned out our backlog and started in the hole this year. We missed our first quarter sales plan.
Will catch up by the end of the second quarter, (Gibson, C.H. 2011). This shows that if you change

Cause And Effect Of Video Games
The Effects of Video Games
Taz Ramsay
Lamar Community College
The Effects of Video Games Video games have been around since the early 1970 s . Computer
Space was the first video game to be produced, and it was created and developed by a company
called Nutting Associates. In 1972, a company called Atari introduced a game called Pong. Atari
was formed by a person named Nolan Bushnell, a developer of Computer Space, who left Nutting
Associates to found Atari, which then produced Pong. Pong was the first successful commercial
arcade video game . (How Stuff Works, 2017) How is a video game made? A video game is taken
through a step by step process requiring five main steps. The first step to making the video game
is the design or layout of the video game. The next step is to grabbing the materials needed to
make the game. The materials needed to make the game are different for each game, and it is
based on the game and/or game console. The third step in making a video game is going through
the manufacturing process. The steps include creating the story, captioning the games action with
art, recording dialogue and sound effects, writing the program, testing the game, burning the game
or disc, and packaging the game. These are all important for the next step of the next step in
making the game, which is ensuring the quality of the game. The final step is improvement,
because the producers want people to buy more games or stuff to help unlock stuff in the game.

Chapter S Corporations Advantages * Limited Liability to the shareholders (owners) personal
assets. * Investors are more likely to invest in this type of entity due to its protection, and easy
acquisition of the company stocks. * Pass through entity: This simply means that in most
circumstances all income pass to the shareholders to be reported under their personal income tax
returns; therefore, profits are being taxed once vs. a C corporation where it is first taxed as the
corporate level, and then in the shareholders personal return as dividends. Tax as dividends are
tax max at a fifteen percent rate (15%) but it is still a double taxation. Most businesses have
losses at the beginning of their operations. Having this type of entity can save in personal income
tax against other income the shareholders report. Losses can be carried backwards during two (2)
years, and or forward for twenty years if not fully used.
Disadvantages * Very complex to keep in compliance with federal and local government. * Active
shareholders compensation is required in a payroll. This requirement can be very expensive for a
micro company since payroll taxes matching FICA (Federal Insurance Contribution Act) would be
required. * Additional reporting in business records, in order to keep track of

The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company
Luxury, class, and style at its finest, the Ritz Carlton Hotel company has remained to this day a
well known and spoken ambiance for those seeking a stay unlike any other. Behind all of that
external awe is the working, ever changing and progressive movement for being better than the rest.
However, like any work in progress, there are bound to be problems that need solving in order to
maintain that thriving entitlement. The Ritz Carltonfaced a couple of problems including its seven
day countdown training program and the change in its working processes.
With the opening of a new hotel, providing the best service is daunting when expectations are high
on top of expecting a high occupancy. That said, the program should be altered which would require
a new design and brand however implementing a longer training time would ensure proper training.
Statement of the Problem
The manager, Mr. James McBride deals with the problem of facing a difficult decision regarding
its usual operating procedures in the process of opening a new hotel. Brian Collins from
Millennium Hospitality Group is concerned that seven days is not enough time to properly train
the new Ritz Carlton stuff in order to open the hotel with a higher occupancy rate of 80%. Due to
the fact that Mr. Collins is a partner with the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Mr. McBride has to consider a few
different questions as to whether or not he should consider Mr. Collins s input in the matter. Some
of those considerations include the

Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death
In regard to Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, Critic Eunice Glenn
says: In the first two lines Death, personified as a carriage driver, stops for one who could not stop
for him. The word kindly is particularly meaningful, for it instantly characterizes Death. This comes
with surprise, too, since death is more often considered grim and terrible (Glenn). Critic Charles R.
Anderson says, Death, usually rude, sudden, and impersonal, has been transformed into a kindly
and leisurely gentleman (Anderson).
Both critics seem to agree on the significance of the word kindly in the first two lines of the poem.

Critic Patricia Engle, on the other hand, looks further and asks, What does the speaker or anyone
stop doing for Death? Answering her own question, Engle says: We stop living. In order to
illustrate her point, she goes on to say, in reference to the speaker of the poem, She realizes that
she cannot recognize Death s power over her. Once she reckons with that eternal or divine bent
within her, Death stops; that is, Death ceases to be what Death is an end (Engle 74). Given
deeper analysis of the poem as a whole, this interpretation appears to be the most accurate. Death
is not the final stopping point for our speaker. The carriage only paused at the grave (17). The
Horses Heads / Were toward Eternity (23 24). The poem suggests that death was not meant to be
an end human existence will go on for eternity. This accounts for the third, often overlooked,
passenger in the carriage Immortality (4). Mortals don t stop for death death stops for them. Death
gives way to immortality, and thus, stops being an end. Even if she had wanted to, the speaker
could not have stopped for Death. The grave is merely a brief pause on the journey toward Eternity.
Dickinson had a definite purpose when she chose to personify death as a carriage driver. According
to the Handbook of Literary Terms, Personification

Plato Believe Only White Men Can Understand Good Art
Does Plato believe only white men can understand good art? I mean white guys have been
dominating the art world for centuries, so why break the cycle? White men have privilege and
history under their belt so they have the time and money to spend studying and thinking about
philosophical ideas and theories. Plato says you must understand philosophy to understand beauty
and thus only philosophers and statesmen have access to beauty, as though the thought of a black
women or a poor man having that consideration is inconceivable.
There are three factors Plato describes that be in play in under must take to consider art to be
beautiful; techne, the concept of imitative poetic inspiration; and madness. With the first step, Plato
is not referring to techno, a form of electronic dance music that emerged in Detroit, Michigan, in the
United States during the mid to late 1980s , but techne , the generic idea of art whose principle is
measure 2. If you plan to make art, you are required to know what the finished product is going
to look like and how you are going to make it before you begin to create it. To know if your art is
going to be good before you start making it, Plato references that the fact there must be harmony

Examples Of Potion In Romeo And Juliet
The potion was about wear off and they would be together. Everything had gone as Brother had
planned, and Sister saw that now. In just a moment Romeo would kiss the lips of his living
beloved, and all would be fine. They would finally be together, and the story of Romeo and Juliet
would conclude with the utmost love, though resulting in the death of Paris. From his tiny coat
neither Brother nor Sister could make out the silver flask he had drawn. In it was a true potion

her lips. What is he doing? Sister asked. Brother wasn t fast enough to stop Romeo, the rules didn

Rodney Castleden s The Stonehenge
Stonehenge is one of the most famous sites in the world from the Neolithic period. It began as
early as 3000 BC, and went under different stages of arrangement. Known for its circle of giant
stones standing in Salisbury Plain, this monument has baffled archeologists for centuries.
Stonehenge, which derives from the Saxon term for hanging stones, has been examined several
times over the centuries, but the primary reason for its creation remains unknown. The only
information we do know is that it was a religious site, and that worship here involved the cycles of
the sun; the alignment of the stones on the axis of the mid summer sunrise makes this clear. The
books I choose to review this topic each approach the ideology behind this monument; each in a
different way. In the first half of The StonehengePeople, Rodney Castleden investigates, in detail,
many of the popular sites that could contribute to figuring out the reconstruction of Neolithic
society. Moreover, he begins with the impact man had on the land, from the development of trade
routes to the beginning of settlements and agriculture. In the second half of the book, he attempts
to look deeper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the possibilities of other monuments influencing the Stonehenge, but always keeps in mind that the

What Is The Tone Of Dulce Et Decorum Est
Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen, is an English poem with a Latin title which is translated
directly as it is sweet and honorable. It describes a man s first hand experience with gas warfare
during World War 1, revealing just how awful and cruel it was for the soldiers. The poem opens
with a group of visibly weary soldiers bent double (line 1) and coughing like hags (line 2)
returning from the battlefield. Owen further illustrates just how demoralized the men were by
stating they marched asleep and were deaf to the guns being fired behind them (line 7). The course
of the poem is altered when someone suddenly exclaims gas! Gas (line 9), hastening the group to
put their gas masks on. Clearly familiar with the procedure, all

First Group Plc s ROE ratio shows drastic decline in the previous year 2014 to 5.30 from 6.02. In

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Test Automation
The perpetual demand for faster time to market high quality products at lower cost, drives
organizations towards test automation. However, only few succeed in reaping the benefits. If test
automation has been there for a long time, then why many organizations fail to implement it
enterprise wide? Though there are enormous benefits in automating test cases, such as reduce cost
and time on manual test execution efforts, safety net over accelerated new development, faster
feedback cycles, error prone consistent testing, and productivity booster within testing teams. There
are some challenges too. The sail is never smooth! When the challenges are not overcome in a
reliable way, most automationprojects tend to fail or discontinued in the middle. Here are the few
main challenges faced by the organizations in general.

The longer and the more frequent the test cases are executed, the more return is gained. Hence, it is
not advisable to invest in automation when the life of product is short; only fewer releases are
planned; tests are not repetitive in nature.
2.Technical Skills
To work on automation, some programming knowledge is inevitable, also proficiency with the test
tool. It takes time to familiarize with the tool, standards, and guidelines set. With advanced
applications comes custom (application specific) components which might be difficult to be
identified by the tool. In this case, we may have to write our own mechanisms for component
identification and verification, which means building some logic. However, some testers might not
be from a programming background or out of touch with programming. Therefore the learning
curve is often high. Nevertheless, the key is to be open to learn new areas, and to learn one step at a

Animal Testing Should Be Banned Essay
Each time you reach for a bottle of medicine, you do so without thinking of the tremendous
amount of work that has gone into getting you that product, and possibly the lives that were spent
doing so. Those lives being the ones of animals tested in pharmaceutical settings to assure the
safety of the product you just swallowed. It is difficult to justify the use of animals in this way, but
when put simply we make the choice between putting human life, or the life of an animal on the
line. While businesses have searched for other methods of testing, there is no more accurate way of
testing toxicology than through a live host. Despite it not being the most ideal choice to everyone,
there is no better or more safe option, and animal testingis an absolutely necessary step in testing
pharmaceuticals until we can find an equal replacement. Pharmaceutical businesses should continue
testing their products on animals to ensure human safety, because the benefits of using these
practices outweigh the negatives of releasing these drugs prematurely.
According to Rachel Hajar of the United States Library of Medicine, animals have been used
repeatedly throughout the history of biomedical research. Such practices have been proven to save
many human lives; in fact, we have records dating all the way back to ancient times. But as of late,
this practice has undergone extreme criticism. An excerpt from Regulatory Toxicology and

There, for the first time, is a proclamation divinity of Rama, where Mandodari in deep sorrow over
the death of Ravana, her husband, exclaims that it is Narayana that has come as Nara which in fact
is unknown to Ravana and due to his ignorance, he has mistaken Rama for a human being. The
contradiction that Valmikibrings out is that while he puts these words in the mouth of
Mandodari, he puts a different type of statement in the mouth of Rama himself. When the whole
theme is over, the drama has been played, Brahma comes and speaks to Rama, Thou art Lord
Narayana, Thy play in this world is over, and we seek Thy entry back into Vaikuntha. And Rama
says in reply: What are you speaking? I do not know anything. Am I Narayana! I think I am only
a man Atmanam Manusham Manye. Whatever you may think or speak about me, I think I am a
man, I am a human being. These are the words of Rama himself. While Rama himself is thinking
that he is only a man, Brahma speaks of Him as Narayana and wants Him to go back to His
Abode, as His drama in this world is over. These interesting dramatic contradictions are brought
into play by the genius of Valmiki, deliberately to fulfill the purpose of the Epic. Otherwise, there
would be no meaning in the play itself.

Groundwater and the Hydrologic Cycle Essay
Groundwater and the Hydrologic Cycle
Introduction
Water is the lifeblood of every living creature on earth. Approximately 70 percent of the earth s
surface is covered with water. Thought the wonders of nature, water can take on many different
forms, form the water we drink, to the ice we use to chill a glass of lemonade, to the water vapor
used to steam clean equipment equipment. It is easy to understand the significance water plays in
our lives, but it may be much more difficult ot understand the water that exists below the earth s
surface, called groundwater.

The unsaturated zones are soil and geologic materials located between the land surface and the
saturated zone. The voids are filled with a combination of air and water. Water in this zone is
often refereed to as soil moisture. Below the unsaturated zone is the water table. The water table
is the level in the geologic formation below which all voids or cracks are saturated. The water
table also can be thought of as the upper surface of the groundwater and top of the saturated zone
for an unconfined aquifer. The entire region below the water table is called the saturated zone. In
the saturated zones, all voids are filled with water and no air is present. The water in the saturated
zone is call groundwater. The distance water has to travel to reach groundwater can range from a
few feet to hundreds of feet. Water movement toward groundwater may take hours or years,
depending on the depth to the aquifer and the characteristics of the unsaturated zone.
Once in the groundwater, water may move into surface waters such as lakes or streams.
Groundwater moves slowly within the groundwater aquifer, often remaining in storage for long
periods of time.

Although the language is slowly being reintroduced to communities, repression continues because
they do not enjoy any political unity, but rather an excess of political institutions and functions.
Therefore, the Basques are deeply dissatisfied with both their lack of territorial unity and the

The And The Doctrine Of Salvation
Soteriology or the Doctrine of Salvation is perhaps the grandest and greatest them in Scripture. If
we look at our world it s easy to see man s condition in sin. Mankind is completely helpless when
the message of salvation is ignored. Our world remains shattered and town by the condition of sin,
but Gods gracious rescue plan through salvation and JesusChrist will redeem us all and provide a
solution to man s problems. () This union with Christ is called the magical exchange in which
Christ assumes our debts and we inherit his wealth so that nothing (Horton pg.271) will be able
to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ro 8:39) (Horton pg. 323 324) Let s
visit the different layers of salvation.
In our textbook, Horton starts with the blessing of Justification. God justifies the wicked.
Justification is a legal act, wherein God deems the sinner righteous on the basis of Christ s
righteousness. Horton tells us on pg. 280, God justifies the wicked not those who have done their
best yet have fallen short, those who might at least be judged acceptable because of the sincerity,
but those who, at the very moment of being pronounced righteous, are in themselves unrighteous.
This means full repentance, which is defined as such, as a change of mind, or a conversion from
sin to God. And the relinquishment of any practice from the conviction that has offended God.
When we accept salvation we are also testifying to God that we are a changed person from

Authors either use terror as a topic or theme in order to justify the acts of the artist as revolutionist
or as terror ist. This paper aims to indicate the relation between terror as an essential mode in art and
literature in the form of textuality with reference to The Man Who Was Thursday. Gilbert Keith

It is a detective story, a fantastic tale, a political treatise, and a thriller narrated in poetic prose, and
deals with terror(ism) in relation to both art and theological doctrines. The Biblical allusions and

artifice lies in creating mysterious plot with a remarkably poetic language, yet his skill to make
conventionally significant things look ridicule should not be overlooked. In this novel, he plays
with the notions and norms welcomed by mobs, secured by governments, and consecrated by
religious tenets. Through disguises, Chesterton questions our perception of reality, politically

Speech Steve Jobs Speech
At Stanford s 2005 graduation Steve Jobs spoke to some of the brightest young men and women in
the country. Stanford s graduating class of 2005 heard an inspiring and compelling speech split into
three stories from Steve Jobs life. Steve Jobs used metaphors, repetition, and antithesis creating an
inspiring and compelling argument to never give up on finding and doing what you love.
Steve Jobs split his speech into three stories. The first one was about connecting the dots. The
whole story is a metaphor having dots stand in as actions that you have done and will do. He
also points to how it is impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But
it was very, very clear looking backward 10 years later. This is elaborating on the previous
metaphor. This states that the actions, dots or in Steve Jobs s case the typography class, at the
time seemed to have no clear purpose. However, later on, you can see how it connects to
something else that you have or will do.In Steve Jobs case, the typography class lead to the
Macintosh having different fonts. In his second story he, talked about love and loss, explaining
what happened when his own company, Apple, fired him, only to have it help in. It was awful
tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. In this metaphor, he has medicine standing in as
being fired from Apple, the awful tasting being how it felt, and him needing it because it helped
him. He followed up that metaphor with another one,

Emily Dickinson s Use Of A Nontraditional Structure In...
Emily Dickinson s 320 illustrates her use of a nontraditional structure, featuring a closed sense
in quatrains that frequently rhyme. In the majority of her works, Dickinson sometimes follows
the pattern of writing the first and third lines of each stanza in iambic tetrameter and the second
and fourth lines in iambic trimeter, while at other times making the form intentionally choppy
and difficult to read. In 320 s first stanza, for example, she uses the trochee certain and winter ,
creating a rough sentence compared to her typical style. Following this excerpt, Dickinson
repeatedly makes use of rhetorical pauses throughout the poem, which expresses the poem s
troublesome setting. By combining these stylistic elements, Dickenson crafted a style that is
unique while also achieving her goal of immersing the audience in her writing. There is no way
to tell who is speaking in this poem. Dickinson generally wrote as if the narrator was somebody
parallel or close to herself; however, in 320, there are no signs of the narrator being Dickinson or
any of her other popular characters. The narrator seems to be speaking as if they are part of a
group, as the only pronouns mentioned are us and we . This us could be up for interpretation; it
could be a small group experiencing death or even the entire human population as a whole and
their view of God. Dickinson uses strong imagery in the first stanza. The reader imagines the
booming sounds of large cathedral organs and the way the bass of them shakes your soul. She adds
a negative connotation to these shakes by stating it oppresses the narrator. Following, Dickinson
uses the metaphor of a slant of light on a winter afternoon to the opening her internal pain. As the
slant of light opens, it is essentially opening up a seal of despair. Nothing external has affected the
body; however, the heartbreak from the pain the narrator is dealing with leaves behind marks on her
soul. She follows this theme through the entire poem that the slant of light has brought pain upon
her. Dickinson starts with a relatively positive tone. When stating There s a certain Slant of light
/ Winter Afternoons the reader has the visual of a small light shining through on a white surface.

Theme Of Loyalty In King Lear
Shakespeare s play, king Lear, is a true masterpiece and it portrays many of the struggles man
faces in their lifetime and the many lessons we must face in order to learn from our mistakes. King
Lear calls into question many different ethical dilemmas and it makes us as humans question our
own beliefs and how we interact with each other. King Learis not only a terrific story but it is an
example and a guide to show us the events that could happen when we drift away from those we
love and we focus more on material things. Throughout the play king Lear, Shakespeare
incorporates many different themes within the play. But truly the three biggest themes are the
abuse of power, betrayal, and loyalty. Throughout the play, the reoccurring theme... Show more

Loyalty is one of the strongest bonds people can form and it shows in the play king Lear with
many different characters. The first character that displays true loyalty throughout the whole
play is the nobleman Kent. Even after the king banishes him from the kingdom Kent still finds
his way back into the king s life and ends up being one of the few people that actually care about
the king. Kent s loyalty towards the king was so strong he would even fight and confront anyone
that treated his master wrongly. This is a true sign of loyalty and when everyone started
abandoning Lear Kent was the constant at his side never wavering always there for Lear to lean
on, this is true loyalty. A knave rascal, an eater of broken flesh, a base proud, shallow, beggarly,
three suited, hundred pound, filthy worsted stocking knave (2.2.13 15). This quote again shows
that anyone that disrespects the king in front of Kent will be sure to hear it from him and it
speaks to his character. It shows that Kent is not afraid to stand up for what he thinks is right
and that no matter what he will always be there for the king even if he doesn t have his powers.
The next example of loyalty is the fool. He has been by Lear s side from the beginning and it is
ironic that he is by his side when everyone else is gone. Prithee nuncle be contended tis a naught
night to swim in (3.4.105) this quote shows that the fool is very close to the king as he calls him
nuncle so he has been there through thick and thin with the king. It also shows his loyalty he
followed the king out into the blistering cold for nothing only because he was loyal. He cared for
the king and he wanted him to be safe and that is a great example of loyalty by the fool. The
lesson Shakespeare delivers here is that there are very few people in life that would lay down their
life for you and have absolute loyalty to you until the day you die, and those people

The Characteristics Of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Martin Luther King, Jr
I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people Maya
Angelou. An epic hero is someone who motivates the people around them, goes above and
beyond a normal person, and makes the world a better place in someway or form. They have all the
qualities a society would look for. Most epic heroes are fictional, but MLK was someone who was
extremely inspirational and considered a real life hero. He was well known hero for his civil rights
movement and being a start to end racism. Martin Luther King, Jr embodies the characteristics of
an epic hero because he is capable of deeds of great strength and courage, fights like a great
warrior, and has earned a great reputation around the world.
Being capable of deeds of great strength and courage means the hero has potential, and goes
above and beyond what a commoner does. Martin Luther King, Jr accomplished these traits
making him a great epic hero. Martin Luther, Jr s article from biography.com states some major
key facts from his life. The article displays MLK as a person who goes above and beyond a
normal person and that he did whatever he could do without giving up: Through his activism and
inspirational speeches he played a pivotal role in ending the legal segregation of African American
citizens in the United States, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting
Rights Act of 1965. King received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, among several

Non-Recommendation Report
This letter on Non Recommendation is to inform you that Officer Reginald Nathan is currently
applying for the two advertised positions (Outside Workcrew/Acting Training Standards). I have
been assigned as his supervisor for over the last two years and have a unique vision of his character,
duty performance, strengths, and deficiencies. While Officer Nathan has been at YKCC since
January 30th, 2014, I believe he is lacking the individual drive, ability, and maturity to perform
either of these positions without direct supervision and by the minute direction.
Even though Officer Nathan is capable of being a productive COII at YKCC, he has demonstrated
a ghastly view of on time attendance (possible abuse of leave). During his 9 26 15 thru ... Show

As long as he is faced with a standard event he is capable of performing repetitive assignments to
a standard; beyond this, he is limited. Moreover, Officer Nathan has had to be reminded that
inmates are not to be convinced to write a Request for Interview or Medical Request injecting they
have a specific medical infliction or legal right to have or demand anything.
Don t get this letter wrong, he is able to complete the work assigned to him; at the shift level and
with direct supervision, but the quality of the work is satisfactory and sometimes below average. I
believe that Officer Nathan has the potential to be a good Officer, but repugnance and pride not to
accept suggestions and opinions from disgruntled inmates and employees may help. I would not
recommend Officer Nathan for any work assignment that would lead to independent thought or duty.
In closing, I d like to restate my strong Non Recommendation for Officer Reginald Nathan
applications to the Acting Training/Standards Officer and or Outside Workcrew at YKCC. I m
confident that if he was selected for either position, the Institution will suffer. Please feel free to

independence and freedom after her husband, Brently Mallard dies in a tragic train accident.

her, she sees the tops of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring of life . The same spring

Summary Of Climate Change And Moral Judgement By Ezra...
After reading Ezra M. Markowitz Climate Change and moral Judgement I was able to look at the
issue of why most people don t understand why global warming is happening differently. I think the
mane point or question that the author Ezra M. Markowitz is trying to answer in his essay titled
Climate Change and moral Judgement is how some many people cant see the dangers of climate
changeeven though it is happening right in front of them. Ezra M. Markowitz makes this statement
at the beginning of his essay Converging evidence from the behavioral and brain sciences suggests
that the human moral judgement system is not well equipped to identify climatechange a complex,
large scale and unintentionally caused phenomenon as an important moral... Show more content on

Although climate change is the direct result of intentional, goal directed behavior some example
of the goal based behavior is driving everywhere when you could possibly walk to the place that
you are trying to go, another example of this kind of behavior is the amount energy that the
normal person use in order to live a modern life when they could simply cut back on this energy
usage and change up their life style but most people don t want to do that. After reading this essay
couple of question come to mind the first question that I would want to ask the author Ezra M.
Markowitz is how does he think we need to go about changing how people feel about climate
change/global warming? I think Ezra M. Markowitz would answer my question by saying that we
must teach people about what happens every time that they decide to do something that can be
harmful for the environment we have to come up with a way to educate people to make smarter
decision when it comes to climate change and there day to day activities. Another question that I
would want to Ezra M. Markowitz is does he ever see a time in the future where all humans see
climate change as a problem and decided that its time to fix it before it is to late? I think Ezra M.
Markowitz would answer this question by saying no I think humans are going to always deal with
these issue because they don t want to give up some of the things that they consider to allow them
to live a simple life. I enjoyed

The Purpose Of An OSI Model
What is the purpose of an OSI model? The purpose of an OSI model is a standard that was created
for networks to share information. This standard governs the way information is transmitted over
different networks. The model also sets guidelines to those in the manufacturing industry that create
and develop software and hardware that are all compatible with each other.
This paper will discuss and describe the 7 layers of the Open System Interconnection model (OSI
model) and the layers of the Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol model (TCP/IP model),
and explain the similarities and differences of each model.
The 7 layers of the OSI model consist of: The Application layer (layer 7), The Presentation layer
(layer 6), The Session ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Transport layer
Transport layers exist in both TCP/IP and OSI model. Even though both models have Transport
layers they differ. The TCP/IP model consist of two standard transport protocols: Transmission
Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP). TCP uses a reliable data stream
protocol which is connected oriented and UDP uses a unreliable data stream protocol which is
connectionless oriented.
The Internet layer
The Internet layer is a group of protocols and specifications that are used to transport packets from
the host across a network, the host specified by a network address (IP address)
The Link layer
The lower level layer of the TCP/IP model, this layer is used by a suite of protocols for the Internet
. This is used to connect hosts or nodes to a network. This layer is compared to the Data Link
layer and Physical layer of the OSI model.
TCP/IP Application Layer VS OSI Application, Presentation and Session layer.
The similarities in both models are comparable but different at the same time. All though they
exist in both, the approach each uses to construct applications is different. In the OSI model the
Application layer, Presentation layer and Session layer correspond to the Application layer of the
TCP/IP model. They somewhat do the same job but use different protocols, TCP/IP uses: FTP,
SMTP, TELNET, DNS and SNMP where the OSI model uses: FTAM, VT, MHS,

motor vehicle emissions, coal burning and the heavy amount of industry that takes place.
For the residents of the China, the pollution is a thick smog draping the city that is only
thickening by the moment. This has caused many health risks for residents, increase in major
respiratory issues, and instilled a fear in residents to go outside. When you take a look at the

Quebec s Far Right Steps Out Of The Shadows
QuГ©bec s far right steps out of the shadows: How neo nationalist and alt right groups in the
province benefit from a global momentum
Populist movements are on the rise across the Western world. Donald Trump s victory in the U.S.,
the Brexit vote in the U.K. and the surge of far right parties in many European countries all stand
testimony to this. Emboldened by this momentum, QuГ©bec s far right groups are growing their
ranks. And while they may be less established, they, too, want to make themselves heard. (1,760

The common theme among them is a firm rejection of established conservative parties as well as
the skepticism of globalization and its corollary immigration, which they believe threatens to erode
the QuГ©bГ©cois way of life.
Right now, in places like Montreal, Quebecois culture is being drowned, says Remi Tremblay, the
media liaison for the Federation des QuГ©bГ©cois de souche, whose anti immigration tirades are
loud and proud. The group was founded as a protest movement in the aftermath of Quebec s
reasonable accommodation crisis. Its concern is more with the very concept of immigration than
with specific groups. Peoples that are strangers to each other, and who have different values and
traditions can t live side by side indefinitely without there being frictions and problems, he says.
Many of these groups single out radical Islam as being the most vivid threat, one which they
consider to be closer at hand than mainstream society realizes.
We believe radical Islam has no place here. We can see what damage it does in Europe and we
don t want the same to happen here, says Daniel Boucher, president of the Alliance nationale
rГ©formiste du QuГ©bec. Boucher thinks it s dangerous for QuГ©bГ©cois society to dismiss this
threat as marginal. Of course it s not the majority, but still, it doesn t always take a majority. It s
usually a minority that causes the damage. You still have to be cautious, he adds.

Marketing Audit Walt Disney Corporation Marketing Audit Max McKay Sabrina Coady Henrik Oiseth Principles of Marketing 308 Professor Simpson November 14, 2006 Walt Disney Corporation Founded in 1923, the Walt Disney Company has predicated itself as the world s best in the family entertainment business. After 80 years in the business, who could argue with that statement? Today, Walt DisneyCorporation dominates the market of family entertainment. An unparalleled experience is the direct affect of superior quality, innovative content, and brilliant storytelling. To capture such a highly diverse market, Walt Disney has divided itself into four main business segments: Studio Entertainment, Parks and Resorts, Consumer Products, and Media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Current stock prices are hovering around $30 per share ( The Walt Disney Company, 1996). Walt Disney Corporation can contribute much of its success to a large number of resources, superior experience, and its low cost strategy. The company has developed a well known brand name that has lead to high brand loyalty. This has given the organization the ability to adapt when product line sales decrease. At the same time, financial stability has allowed Walt Disney Corporation to extend its product line and services into home video, film, merchandise, radio broadcasting, network television, and theme parks ( The Walt Disney Company, 1996). As product line sales declined in the US, Disney has effectively expanded its operations to Japan and Europe. Overall, financial stability is one of Walt Disney s primary internal strengths, giving the firm flexibility to submerge into a variety of different markets and expand operations globally. Innovative thinking by Disney employees has been critical to the company s success. Employees have highly contributed to several box office hits in Disney productions. Creative and unique ideas this firm continually produces has overshadowed much of the competition. In an industry where extreme amounts of capital investments are required for new market entrants, Walt Disney has intimidated many new market entrants by dominating the market of entertainment. SCID is the acronym for Severe Combined Immune Deficiency and victims of this dreadful disease must live in isolation from the outside world for fear of germs and contamination that can lead to death. This describes Maddy s world where she lives at home with her mother Pauline (who is also her doctor) and Carla, her long time nurse and friend. Maddy seems resigned to a lifetime of books, movies, and board games in her sterile but safe home. Her over protective mom dotes on her and there s no denying the deep love they share. • 4. Narcissistic Personality Inventory Narcissism is a trait described as having feelings of self love and self admiration, a general defensive orientation, and a constellation of attitudes that characterize a person s relationships with others such as feelings of entitlement involving the expectation of special privileges over others, special exemptions from normal social demands, suspiciousness, and jealousy (Raskin Terry, 1988, p. 890). The Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) is the measure most commonly used to assess these traits of narcissismin one s personality. When taking this measure I scored a 5, where the average score is 15.3, a low score is considered one close to 8.5, and an extremely low score is a 2 or below. Therefore, my level of narcissism as a personality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blincoe, Dewall, Gilbert, Haak, Keller and Widiger (2014) conducted a study to examine the affiliation between narcissism and conflict behaviors within a romantic dyad in order to explain four hypotheses: individual narcissism will be associated with partner narcissism, greater narcissism will be related to self conflict behaviors, greater narcissism will be related to partners negative conflict behaviors, and male and female narcissism will interact (Keller et al., 2014, p. 34 39). This study was conducted by collecting data from 190 college student couples where measures of narcissism, level of conflict in their relationship, and depressive symptoms to use as a control variable for results, were taken. Subsets of couples were then asked to participate in a competitive reaction time task to behaviorally assess aggressive tendencies towards their partner during conflict. It was found that the four hypotheses had supporting data that agreed with each; the first being that there is significant relation of narcissistic traits between males and females in a relationship, which could be due to the tendency to choose partners that have similar qualities and beliefs as you. The second being that narcissism is directly related to a person s negative behavior within a relationship, the third that narcissists are more likely to be victimized by their ... The New Woman in Fanu s Carmilla, Stoker s Dracula, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer The correlation between the vampire, a figure that is usually regarded as the subject of social ostracism, and the New Woman, the advent of which was feared by the majority of the British Victorian patriarchy, was a prominent aspect of much mid to late Victorian era literature. Supplementary evidence to support the compelling Victorian era literary connection between the vampire and the New Womancan be extrapolated from the unique gender role standards that defined that socially complex era. As Catherine Siemann suggests in her essay, Darkness Falls on the Endless Summer: Buffy as Gidget for the Fin de Siecle, the Victorian New Woman s personal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to reinforce as loudly and clearly as possible the patriarchal message that in Victorian society, New Women were to be regarded as social pariahs, the ultimate destruction of these literary characters had to be performed in the most savage manner feasible, the brutality of which is almost beyond belief. In Carmilla, prior to her slaughter, the male characters, representative of the Victorian patriarchy, dehumanize the vampire Carmilla, by no longer referring to her by name; Carmilla is simply reduced to being referred to as the vampire and the body. Dehumanization eliminates Carmilla s individuality, metaphorically suggesting that her fate is the destiny that awaits all New Women. Carmilla s execution is described as follows: The body, therefore, in accordance with the ancient practice, was raised, and a sharp stake driven through the heart of the vampire, who uttered a piercing shriek at the moment, in all respects such as might escape from a living person in the last agony. Then the head was struck off, and a torrent of blood flowed from the severed neck. The body and head were next placed on a pile of wood, and reduced to ashes, which were thrown upon the river and borne away, and that territory has never since been plagued by the visits of a vampire. Chris Lilley s cleverly produced mockumentary, Summer Heights High (SHH), adopts these stereotypes presenting them as immensely exaggerated representations. Lilley s show comprises of Ja mie King, a snobby and manipulative private school girl, Mr G, a self absorbed drama teacher, and Jonah Takalua, a rebellious 15 year old boy of Tongan descent, commonly associated with the phrase, Puck you miss . This class clown has quite the record, attending three schools in 18 months. Two of his expulsions include setting a flame a student s locker and defecating the principles car by spray painting a penis on the bonnet. His behaviour in SHH is by far the most ludicrous, as his difficulty in adopting t he English language is demonstrated by his broken speech and impulsive language. Consistently naming anyone he doesn t like as a homo and labelling a ginger coloured student as a ranga . Sorry, ranga. One of the most absurd acts made by Jonah was when he convinced the student councillor to believe that his father was molesting him, specifically to prevent him from doing a speech due the next day. Possibly one of the greatest moments of Summer Heights High. However his character is a great example of an obstacle the education system has still not overcome. Jonah is a recognisable figure in all schools, representing the group of students that fall behind their peers due to their inadequate learning abilities. In an attempt to cover up their failures, they show off with bravado and disruptive behaviour. Although Lilley wears the brown face to further play the character of a Tongan teen (which is commonly considered taboo in the film industry), some critics argue that he does not understand the burden of being brown. ... Instead we should be able to recognize when we believe a certain situation can better a civilization and stick to our ethics in order to further advance our world as we ve done for centuries. Compromise can be useful in building personal relationships however, when we abandon our ideas and leave them astray we are proving a weak link in the basic principles that has helped us as a community thrive until this point. The Five Generalizations Essay Adrian Medina Module 2 FIN400 Analyzing Financial Statements CSU Global Dr. Osman Masahudu The five generalizations that I believe are from the findings in the case study The Dangerous Morality of Managing Earnings go back to the code of ethics that the SEC has set in place. The first is Honest and ethical conduct, (Gibson, C.H. 2011) which a lot of the managers showed that they were not honest by doing what they felt necessary to show a positive bottom line. The second generalization is the full, fair, accurate, timely, and understandable disclosure in reports and documents that a company files, (Gibson, C.H. 2011). Ethical decision making is deeply rooted in cultural values. Cultural norms concerning what is right and wrong, acceptable and unacceptable, good and bad , and important and unimportant shape one s beliefs regarding the world around us, including the business environment, (Geiger, M.A., Quirvan, C. Hazera, A. 2007). Management s ability to manage the earnings in the long run is that they will not have any earnings in the long run if the type of manipulation that is going keeps occurring. The quote from one of the examples, On accounting manipulations, a profit center controller reported: Accounting is grey. Very little is absolute...You can save your company by doing things with sales and expenses, and, if it s legal, then you are justified in doing it, (Gibson, C.H. 2011). This speaks volumes that these type of people don t care about the true bottom line all they care about is finding a way to manipulate it. In the long term you will effect everything what you do in the short term. The other example would be the following: Last year we called our customers and asked if they could take early delivery. We generated an extra $300,000 in sales at the last minute. We were scratching for everything. We made our plans, but we cleaned out our backlog and started in the hole this year. We missed our first quarter sales plan. Will catch up by the end of the second quarter, (Gibson, C.H. 2011). This shows that if you change that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Computer Space was the first video game to be produced, and it was created and developed by a company called Nutting Associates. In 1972, a company called Atari introduced a game called Pong. Atari was formed by a person named Nolan Bushnell, a developer of Computer Space, who left Nutting Associates to found Atari, which then produced Pong. Pong was the first successful commercial arcade video game . (How Stuff Works, 2017) How is a video game made? A video game is taken through a step by step process requiring five main steps. The first step to making the video game is the design or layout of the video game. The next step is to grabbing the materials needed to make the game. The materials needed to make the game are different for each game, and it is based on the game and/or game console. The third step in making a video game is going through the manufacturing process. The steps include creating the story, captioning the games action with art, recording dialogue and sound effects, writing the program, testing the game, burning the game or disc, and packaging the game. These are all important for the next step of the next step in making the game, which is ensuring the quality of the game. Behind all of that external awe is the working, ever changing and progressive movement for being better than the rest. However, like any work in progress, there are bound to be problems that need solving in order to maintain that thriving entitlement. The Ritz Carltonfaced a couple of problems including its seven day countdown training program and the change in its working processes. With the opening of a new hotel, providing the best service is daunting when expectations are high on top of expecting a high occupancy. That said, the program should be altered which would require a new design and brand however implementing a longer training time would ensure proper training. Statement of the Problem The manager, Mr. James McBride deals with the problem of facing a difficult decision regarding its usual operating procedures in the process of opening a new hotel. Brian Collins from Millennium Hospitality Group is concerned that seven days is not enough time to properly train the new Ritz Carlton stuff in order to open the hotel with a higher occupancy rate of 80%. Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death In regard to Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, Critic Eunice Glenn says: In the first two lines Death, personified as a carriage driver, stops for one who could not stop for him. The word kindly is particularly meaningful, for it instantly characterizes Death. This comes with surprise, too, since death is more often considered grim and terrible (Glenn). Critic Charles R. Anderson says, Death, usually rude, sudden, and impersonal, has been transformed into a kindly and leisurely gentleman (Anderson). Both critics seem to agree on the significance of the word kindly in the first two lines of the poem. Because I could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Critic Patricia Engle, on the other hand, looks further and asks, What does the speaker or anyone stop doing for Death? Answering her own question, Engle says: We stop living. In order to illustrate her point, she goes on to say, in reference to the speaker of the poem, She realizes that she cannot recognize Death s power over her. Once she reckons with that eternal or divine bent within her, Death stops; that is, Death ceases to be what Death is an end (Engle 74). Given deeper analysis of the poem as a whole, this interpretation appears to be the most accurate. Death is not the final stopping point for our speaker. The carriage only paused at the grave (17). The Horses Heads / Were toward Eternity (23 24). The poem suggests that death was not meant to be an end human existence will go on for eternity. This accounts for the third, often overlooked, passenger in the carriage Immortality (4). Mortals don t stop for death death stops for them. Death gives way to immortality, and thus, stops being an end. Even if she had wanted to, the speaker could not have stopped for Death. The grave is merely a brief pause on the journey toward Eternity. Dickinson had a definite purpose when she chose to personify death as a carriage driver. It began as early as 3000 BC, and went under different stages of arrangement. Known for its circle of giant stones standing in Salisbury Plain, this monument has baffled archeologists for centuries. Stonehenge, which derives from the Saxon term for hanging stones, has been examined several times over the centuries, but the primary reason for its creation remains unknown. The only information we do know is that it was a religious site, and that worship here involved the cycles of the sun; the alignment of the stones on the axis of the mid summer sunrise makes this clear. The books I choose to review this topic each approach the ideology behind this monument; each in a different way. In the first half of The StonehengePeople, Rodney Castleden investigates, in detail, many of the popular sites that could contribute to figuring out the reconstruction of Neolithic society. It is difficult to justify the use of animals in this way, but when put simply we make the choice between putting human life, or the life of an animal on the line. While businesses have searched for other methods of testing, there is no more accurate way of testing toxicology than through a live host. Despite it not being the most ideal choice to everyone, there is no better or more safe option, and animal testingis an absolutely necessary step in testing pharmaceuticals until we can find an equal replacement. Pharmaceutical businesses should continue testing their products on animals to ensure human safety, because the benefits of using these practices outweigh the negatives of releasing these drugs prematurely. According to Rachel Hajar of the United States Library of Medicine, animals have been used repeatedly throughout the history of biomedical research. The contradiction that Valmikibrings out is that while he puts these words in the mouth of Mandodari, he puts a different type of statement in the mouth of Rama himself. When the whole theme is over, the drama has been played, Brahma comes and speaks to Rama, Thou art Lord Narayana, Thy play in this world is over, and we seek Thy entry back into Vaikuntha. (www.mentalhealth.com) The cost of treating patients with anxiety disorders (including GAD) are astronomical. According to The Economic Burden of Anxiety Disorders, a study commissioned by the ADAA and based on data gathered by the association and published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, anxiety disorders cost the U.S. more than $42 billion a year, almost one third of the $148 billion total mental health bill for the U.S. More than $22.84 billion of those costs are associated with the repeated use of healthcare services, as those with anxiety disorders seek relief for symptoms that mimic physical illnesses. People with an anxiety disorder are three to five times more likely to go to the doctor and six times more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric disorders than non sufferers. • 39. Emily Dickinson s Use Of A Nontraditional Structure In... Emily Dickinson s 320 illustrates her use of a nontraditional structure, featuring a closed sense in quatrains that frequently rhyme. In the majority of her works, Dickinson sometimes follows the pattern of writing the first and third lines of each stanza in iambic tetrameter and the second and fourth lines in iambic trimeter, while at other times making the form intentionally choppy and difficult to read. In 320 s first stanza, for example, she uses the trochee certain and winter , creating a rough sentence compared to her typical style. Following this excerpt, Dickinson repeatedly makes use of rhetorical pauses throughout the poem, which expresses the poem s troublesome setting. By combining these stylistic elements, Dickenson crafted a style that is unique while also achieving her goal of immersing the audience in her writing. There is no way to tell who is speaking in this poem. Dickinson generally wrote as if the narrator was somebody parallel or close to herself; however, in 320, there are no signs of the narrator being Dickinson or any of her other popular characters. The narrator seems to be speaking as if they are part of a group, as the only pronouns mentioned are us and we . This us could be up for interpretation; it could be a small group experiencing death or even the entire human population as a whole and their view of God. Dickinson uses strong imagery in the first stanza. The reader imagines the booming sounds of large cathedral organs and the way the bass of them shakes your soul. She adds a negative connotation to these shakes by stating it oppresses the narrator. Following, Dickinson uses the metaphor of a slant of light on a winter afternoon to the opening her internal pain. As the slant of light opens, it is essentially opening up a seal of despair. Nothing external has affected the body; however, the heartbreak from the pain the narrator is dealing with leaves behind marks on her soul. She follows this theme through the entire poem that the slant of light has brought pain upon her. Dickinson starts with a relatively positive tone. When stating There s a certain Slant of light / Winter Afternoons the reader has the visual of a small light shining through on a white surface. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Theme Of Loyalty In King Lear Shakespeare s play, king Lear, is a true masterpiece and it portrays many of the struggles man faces in their lifetime and the many lessons we must face in order to learn from our mistakes. King Lear calls into question many different ethical dilemmas and it makes us as humans question our own beliefs and how we interact with each other. King Learis not only a terrific story but it is an example and a guide to show us the events that could happen when we drift away from those we love and we focus more on material things. Throughout the play king Lear, Shakespeare incorporates many different themes within the play. But truly the three biggest themes are the abuse of power, betrayal, and loyalty. Throughout the play, the reoccurring theme... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Loyalty is one of the strongest bonds people can form and it shows in the play king Lear with many different characters. The first character that displays true loyalty throughout the whole play is the nobleman Kent. Even after the king banishes him from the kingdom Kent still finds his way back into the king s life and ends up being one of the few people that actually care about the king. Kent s loyalty towards the king was so strong he would even fight and confront anyone that treated his master wrongly. This is a true sign of loyalty and when everyone started abandoning Lear Kent was the constant at his side never wavering always there for Lear to lean on, this is true loyalty. A knave rascal, an eater of broken flesh, a base proud, shallow, beggarly, three suited, hundred pound, filthy worsted stocking knave (2.2.13 15). This quote again shows that anyone that disrespects the king in front of Kent will be sure to hear it from him and it speaks to his character. It shows that Kent is not afraid to stand up for what he thinks is right and that no matter what he will always be there for the king even if he doesn t have his powers. The next example of loyalty is the fool. He has been by Lear s side from the beginning and it is ironic that he is by his side when everyone else is gone. Prithee nuncle be contended tis a naught night to swim in (3.4.105) this quote shows that the fool is very close to the king as he calls him nuncle so he has been there through thick and thin with the king. It also shows his loyalty he followed the king out into the blistering cold for nothing only because he was loyal. He cared for the king and he wanted him to be safe and that is a great example of loyalty by the fool. The lesson Shakespeare delivers here is that there are very few people in life that would lay down their life for you and have absolute loyalty to you until the day you die, and those people ...
