2. The Importance Of Relative Fitness
chosen genotype survives; but this must be the same as the probability that a
randomly chosen individual survives, regardless of information on genotype.
Relative fitness. The relative fitness of a genotype (w) equals to its absolute fitness
when get normalized. In the most common normalization, the absolute fitness of
each genotype is divided by the absolute fitness of the fittest genotype (Barton and
Turelli, 1989), such that the fittest genotype has a relative fitness of one. We can
also define a selection coefficient (s), a measure of how much worse the A2 allele is
than A1. Mathematically, w2 = 1 s. Although the definition of relative fitness is
simple, the mathematical relationship between absolute and relative fitness is subtle
(Bazykin, 1969; Betzig, 1986 and Beatty, 2008). In particular, there is a curve of
diminishing returns between these two quantities i.e., increasing the absolute fitness
of a genotype by some amount has less effect on relative fitness (compared with the
mean relative fitness) than does decreasing the relative fitness of the genotype by
the same amount. The importance of mathematical implication of fitness is
straightforward i.e., when zygotes attempt to mature, selection acts, killing some.
Because a proportion (W1) of A1 individuals and a proportion (W2) of A2
individuals survive, the proportion of individuals that carry A1 after selection acts is
pW1 / (pW1 + qW2) It follows that selection will increase the frequency of the fit A1
3. Racism In High School
The community I grew up in was very small. Everybody knew everybody! We were
all taught to love everyone no matter what color they are. Where I grew up my
grandmother was everybody grandmother. When she cooked everyone on our street
was more than welcome to come and get a plate, if she had enough. As a young
black African American girl I always heard about racismand what my raceand other
races had to go through. I went to three different elementary schools and we had
kids of all race there. At Park Ridge Elementary is where I met my first friend of a
different race. At Career Academy High School, in February we had a Black History
Program. Our teachers tried to demonstrate what they had to go through by posting
whites only on certain water... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was always told about how certain races were treated but to actually experience it
although, it was fake it felt real to me. It made me think a lot about racism. It made
me realize how serious it was. That afternoon I went home and asked my great
grandmother and she explained to me some of the things she had to go through.
Listening to her tell me all the things she went through shocked me. She told me
about the how the schools were, the buses and she went into detail about how they
were mistreated by the police. That night I remember telling myself that that
happened years ago and we were done with that. July 5, 2016 I was sitting in the
living room scrolling on facebook on my phone when I saw a video and a very
long caption explain about what had happened on the video. When I watched it I
realized that this was something that happened recently between two white cops
and a black man. In the video I saw the man on the ground while cops where
screaming at him then I heard the police officer yell he got a gun and then he was
shot. The video brought tears to my eyes. I ve always heard about this happening in
other states and it made feel sad, but when it actually hit home I was confused,
scared, and in disbelief and from that moment on I knew this was only the beginning
of something

5. Iron Fertilisation and Algal Blooms
Phytoplankton are the basis of nearly all the Ocean s ecosystems, and require a wide
range of inorganic nutrients in order to grow; notably Carbon, Nitrogen and
Phosphorous. They take up these nutrient elements according to the Redfield Ratio
of C : N : P = 106 : 16 : 1. But phytoplankton also require less obvious nutrients such
as calcium, magnesium and potassium. These are often in plentiful supply in the
worlds Oceans, and other factors such as the micronutrient Ironcan be the limiting
Phytoplanktongrowth factor. Iron is not required by Phytoplankton in large amounts,
but the Oceans are deficient of this micronutrient, and without it Phytoplankton
cannot grow and reproduce as readily. This is because Iron is required in the
biosynthesis of the pigment chlorophyll, required by Phytoplankton in order to
photosynthesise. With a deficiency in Iron, Phytoplankton can suffer from a lack of
chlorophyll known as chlorosis. The protein ferredoxin contains Iron and is
substituted for flavodoxin as an iron stress response (when Iron levels are low). It can
be shown that Phytoplankton are Iron deficient by measuring how much of this
electron transfer protein flavodoxin is present.
Iron s role in phytoplankton growth was first identified in the 1930 s by an English
biologist named Joseph Hart. However it was not until 1988 when the Iron
Fertilisation Hypothesis was suggested, in an article in the January edition of the
scientific journal Nature. It was submitted by John Martin who

cycles.[footnoteRef:1] During this year, a young hippie college dropout named

The FBI believes that Apple should break into their own device to provide the
government access to personal information in the event of a murder or a terrorist
attack. However, the way that Apple has designed their phone this task is
incredibly difficult. Apple would need to reengineer their software to create a
backdoor into the system and give the FBI the key to that back
door.[footnoteRef:16] The primary problem with having a backdoor is that it
makes the phone vulnerable to skilled hackers. Apple is worried that this would
jeopardize their entire client base and that it could be an overstep of the Federal
Government. However, the FBI and Apple s case somewhat disintegrated when the
FBI sought outside help in cracking the phone s password.[footnoteRef:17] The
FBI successfully managed to crack the password on the phone which sparked
outrage at many of the major tech companies. Since this case, Apple along with
other large tech companies have been hiring hackers to try and break into their
devices to expose flaws in their security measures. Although this means the FBI s
workaround will eventually be covered up it puts a temporary rest to their battle
over security. [16: FBI Requests Unlocking of Apple IPhone. In Historic U.S. Events.

7. Assasination of Leon Trotsky
The Assassination of Leon Trotsky
During the power struggle in Russia, an escaped prisoner of the name Lev
Bronstein, was murdered on August 20th, 1940 by Ramon Mercader. Bronstein was
a Russian marxist who went against Stalin s beliefs. He was forced to leave the
country by Stalin s wishes. However, before he left he accomplished many things
such as helping the Bolsheviks into power and creating the South Russian Workers
Union.
Lev Bronstein was born on November 8th, 1879 and grew up in a small town in
Yanovka, present day Ukraine. He was the 5th child of a well off Jewish farmer.
When Bronstein was 9, he was sent to finish his schooling in Nikolayev. As a
teenager he was very interested in socialism and helped create the South Russia
Worker s Union. He was later arrested along with 200 other union workers and was
sent to jail for four years. While he was in prison, he married a woman named
Aleksandra Soklovskaya and together they had two daughters . He abandoned his
wife and kids. He then escaped prison, obtained a forged passport and changed his
name to Leon Trotsky.
He then moved to London, England where he joined with Lenin and his group of
Russian Social Democrats. He began working on a revolutionary newspaper called
Iskra. That same year, he met a woman named Natalia Sedova. They married and
had two sons together. Later, while Russia was in the middle of a revolution,
Trotsky escaped into the capital of Russia and became a spokesperson for the city

Cultural Acceptance in Persepolis
Marjane Satrapi s graphic novel Persepolis is an autobiography that depicts her
childhood up to her early adult years in Iran during and after the Islamic revolution.
Throughout the novel Satrapi incorporates character development, religion, and the
conflict of freedom vs. confinement in order to develop a greater appreciation
between two opposing eastern and western cultures.
When analyzing the current relationship between eastern and western cultures, it
seems as if tensions and conflict arise from a complex and layered set of problems.
These issues range from political, economic and military stances to opposing cultural
beliefs. The genesis of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Satrapi s parents desire for her education is what initially keeps the family from
leaving. The reason then becomes the militant control of the city and the constant
fighting that prevents them. Eventually Satrapi s parents see how dangerous it is and
send her away, yet they make the choice to stay. It seems odd that her parents wouldn
t leave with her. When analyzing the statistical data presented in the Middle East
Research Information Project, the casualties witnessed by Marjane and her family,
rose near eight thousand just in their hometown (MERIP, 3). The death of Iranian
citizens was not only brought by the fighting of the Mujahedeen rebel army, but
anyone that was seen as a threat to their new ideals. Executions were common and
always practiced in public according to Keith Jones s article, Tragedy of the Iranian
Revolution. In the face of this present danger it is hard for the reader to comprehend
the logic in wanting to stay amongst the violence. What Satrapi presents as reasoning
to the reader is the fact that her parents have always lived in Iran. They don t know
anything else. To evacuate raises a lot more internal conflicts for her parents than it
would for their daughter who has not had time to settle in one area. Ultimately the
decision not to leave goes beyond cultural ties, educational reasoning, or even being
forced to stay. There is a natural tendency for man to become complacent and
9. The Effect Of The Warring States Period On Modern Japan
The warring states period in Japan was one of constant military dispute. It started in
1467 and went for 136 years and only ended when all the clans unified under the
Tokugawa Shogunate in 1603. This period definitely had a large effect in the making
of modern Japan because it was a time of growing culture and strong economics. The
economy grew despite the wars raging and trade was big this indicates the
sophisticated craft and manufacturing industries in Japan. These are the main reasons
for the start of the warring states period and how this era affected modern Japan. The
background to the warring states period is extensive and quite complex. The
government at the time was known as the Bakufu Shogunate or the Shogunal
government. It was
10. Herman Boone Belonging
Question 1: Personal power is when one impacts another person or group of people
through their actions and behaviour. This is depicted in Coach Herman Boone as
he uses his power as coach to teach the white team and coloured team to work
together to create the perfect team. It is also seen when Louie Lastik sat with the
people with coloured skin at lunch instead of with the people with white skin .
Social power is when a group of people have are more dominant or have a higher
status from something. In the movie Remember the titans, the people with white
skin have more social power at the beginning as they are considered better than
people with coloured skin. Institutional power is when individuals have more power
than others from their experience and knowledge. Institutional power is portrayed
through the two coaches (Boone and Yoast) as they have more power than the
students since they have studied and finished. Question 2: Belonging is the ability to
feel wanted and included in a group, team or with other people. It is imperative that
the younger generation understand the concept of belonging as it will help them find
themselves as they grow. Personally, I had difficulty finding friends that I felt
comfortable with in primary school. However, after entering high school and finding
an amazing group of people who accept and understand me, both my emotional and
mental well being has improved greatly. Belonging is a vital component to have to
ensure a positive well being.
11. The Circular Flow Diagram Analysis
The circular Flow diagram that I created above contains these sectors such as
Domestic firms, Household, the rest of the world and Government. The diagram
illustrates the continuous movement of money for goods and services between
producers and consumers. The household sector includes everyone; such as you
and me we are buying products from everyone and selling our work. So this is
everyone who may be seeking to satisfy unlimited wants and needs. Households are
responsible for consumption. It also owns all productive resources. The household
interact more with domestic firms. The Domestic Firms includes institutions such
as corporations and partnerships. Their job in the diagram is to combine resources
to produce goods and services. So this means the responsibility for this sector is to
produce. The Government sector which includes the federal and local government.
This section contains of collecting taxes. The Rest of the world section provides
imports and exports of services and goods. When we send money to firms we get
products and services. We can also send the money to the rest of the world and that
s when we import goods. When money comes from the rest of the world to firms
this is called exporting. Money that comes from Domestic Firms to households are
wages or rent. We also see money going from household to government as taxes and
the same with the domestic firms giving money to the government it is also taxes.
Government to house holds which are transfer
12. Social Welfare Values
Values and Social Welfare Social welfare is an idea that can be described as having
two major purposes: social treatment, or helping people, and social control (Day
Schiele, 2013). The helping aspect of social welfare is one of the most common
associations people think of when they hear it (Day Schiele, 2013). However, the
social control aspect is a little less common for people to associate with social
welfare (Day Schiele, 2013). Being aware of both aspects is important in the field
of social work since both aspects affect the way social workers help clients. Another
hidden aspect that infiltrates social welfare is values (Day Schiele, 2013). Values
play an important role in social welfare, thus, should also be considered when... Show

10, 2013). Thus, the view of people in need of assistance began to be seen as a
burden and against the laws of economic nature (Day Schiele, p. 10, 2013). The
Darwinism theory still infiltrates the social welfare system in the US today.
Personal Reflection Historically, social welfare programs were created to alleviate
the burden of social problems that society was facing. Some examples of social
problems include food insecurity, health insurance, and homelessness among many
others. I feel that the premise behind the social welfare programs is good; however,
the social welfare programs are not enough. The programs do aid low income
families with the necessary aid they need; nonetheless, they aid is not enough. Until
recently, my family received SNAP benefits monthly of $120. Although the amount
was not a lot, it did help our family purchase food for the month. Two months ago,
my husband got a .25Вў for his yearly evaluation which pushed our family income
past the poverty line ; thus, we did not qualify for the renewal. The SNAP program
is based on the gross income a family makes and does not take into account the
expenses that the family has such as school loans, car payments, and even
household items such as diapers. Due to this system, many people who are working
and making an effort to improve their lives are unable to make progress because this

13. Titration Of A Strong Acid
It is believed that a strong acid that is titrated with a strong base will produce a
resultant solution has a pH that is slightly over 7. This is because strong acids have
a lower pH and solutions that are less basic than weak acids that have been titrated
with strong bases. When a weak acid is titrated with a strong baseit will produce a
resultant solution that is well above 7 because it starts off with a higher pH. Acids
and bases with high concentrations result in large changes in pH, while acids and
bases with low concentrations result in smaller changes in pH.
1.The titration curve would stop at the equivalence point. This is because the
indicator changes the solutions colour at this point.
2.In order to titrate with antacids (solid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would take less NaOH to neutralize CH3COOH compared with the amount of
NaOH required to neutralize HCl acid. This is because acetic acid is a weak acid has
a stronger conjugate base. This by product helps to raise the pH to 7, a neutral
level. HCl is a strong acid and has a weaker conjugate base. This by product is not
very effective in helping to neutralize the acid. CH3COOH also starts off with a
higher pH since it is weaker; this means that it is closer to the neutral pH level than
HCl is.
6.The pH of HCl at equivalence point is less than the pH of CH3COOH at
equivalence point. This is because HCl starts at a lower pH level than CH3COOH,
since it is a strong acid.
7.To classify an acid as either a strong acid or weak base you can test how they react
with water. If the acid is strong, it will ionize completely. If the acid is weak it will
only partially ionize when introduced to water.
9.If the acid is strong, the titration curve will have a lower equivalence point than a
weak acid. If it is a monoprotic acid, there will only be one equivalence point, while
polyprotic titration curves will include several equivalence
14. Cinchona Bark
Pharmacogonsy is the combination of the analysis and application of medicinal
drugs which have been acquired from natural sources such as plants and animals.
Discovery of the Cinchona bark was said to have been made by Spanish monks
while they were in Peru. The use of the bark was made known to them by
observing the indigenous Indians and by self discovery. The bark was later made
known to the Europeans by Jesuits. It was administered as a hot bitter drink for its
medicinal purposes. Cinchona Succiruba was said to have acquired its appellation
from the countess of a Spanish town called Cinchon who was cured of malaria by
the use of the cinchona succiruba bark from the 17th century. There are other species
of Cinchona but C. Succiruba has the most alkaloid content in comparison to the

The Cinchona succiruba also contains a total of approximately 4 14 % of quinine.
Quinine was officially initially extracted and isolated Pelletier and Caventou who
were French pharmacists. The isolation of quinine is accomplished when the
cinchona bark is desiccated, pulverized and permeated followed by Soxhlet
extraction. Quinine is a methanol quinolone and it is used against blood schizonts
against all species of plasmodium except exo erythrocytes or gametocytes of the
P.falciparum species. The action of quinine is brought about by the inhibition of
haem polymerase which is an enzyme needed by the parasites to convert the toxic
alpha hematin into the tolerable form, beta hematin; however due to the inhibition of
this enzyme by quinine the toxic form will build up and eventually lead to the death
of the
15. The Effects Of Special Effect Makeup On Makeup Essay
Have you ever watched a movie and wondered how something was created? A
simple scar, a horrific creature, even a mutilated limb can be created to a
mystifying degree of realism. Special effects makeup has been, and always will be
a passion of mine. Over the years, I ve found myself to never really pay attention to
a movie that plays, but rather, always be fascinated with the little details that no
one really notices. I ve always sat and wondered exactly how certain effects were
created. The curiosity as lead me to attempt to recreate some of the effects that I ve
seen. Research has lead me to acquire a vast knowledge of the molding process that
makeup artists use to create prosthetics, I have become familiar with well known
makeup artists, and I have discovered certain replacements for the time consuming
processes that may occur during the creation phase. It s truly astonishing to see
what an artist can create from a piece of clay. The entire process starts with an idea.
Whether it be assigned be a company, or completely freelance work, everything that
has been seen on screen or in an attraction has started as a simple idea or sketch.
Once that assignment has been given, the work can then begin. In most cases, the
artist is provided with a life cast of the model they will be applying prosthetics on
to ensure that the pieces fit the model correctly. When the life cast is available, the
artist will being to put layers of clay on it, and begin to shape and sculpt every detail
16. The Role Of Tattoo In Pop Culture
Since tattoos were adopted into western culture, they were associated with
criminals, gang members, trouble makers, or side show entertainers. As decades
have past our traditional mind set has not since changed on the overall opinion of
what tattoos and piercings represent. With the majority of people within the United
States, it is shown that body modifications are always appeared negatively.
Speaking from a generation Y viewpoint of things, my parents were raised
believing that you wouldn t get anywhere in life or you were a bad person if you
had visible tattoos. Partly that is how this generation is being raised passing on the
information to like minded others and when being taught an idea as a kid by your
parent it is more believable. As tattooand piercings are becoming more of the
normality of society but still to this day the stigma still exists. Based on this stigma
some are considered to be social outcasts, this lead to problem with the sociability
with all human interaction. These can lead to altercations involving discrimination,
isolation and bullying. If celebrities can help change having tattoos from a subculture
to a pop culture, then why are others being shamed for their self expression? The

the workplace is to reach an audience the company doesn t usually appeal to by
saying they are up to date with whatever trend may be going
17. The Positive Importance Of The Halo Effect
Managers or coaches should know that sometimes their expectations can be formed
by the Halo effect (a psychological phenomenon that allows a general opinion of
someone, to be gathered from only one element). Despite the fact that influence of
the Halo effect, as well as any other perceptual effect, can have both negative and
positive consequences, initial elimination of them will do managers more objective.
The race, gender, age, educational level and class biases, which are rooted in
stereotypes, also, influence the level of expectations that leaders have for employees.
Another factor that has its influence on the result of this conception is employees
acceptance or resistance. People tend to respond positively to a manager s high
expectations and confidence in their abilities. Although, some employees are resistant
to the Pygmalion effect, especially, when they receive biased feedback. Of course,
this doesn t mean that managers should always seek for employee s acceptance.
Careful consideration of target personality and a possibility of resistance can alter
employee s behaviour and trigger powerful effects. Some employees, particularly with
a strong sense of their own, often strive to disprove inaccurate/unappealing
expectations by inspiring imaginative and creative thinking. As usual, this happens
when targeted employees are to discount negative expectations and use other sources
such as from peers or other co workers to form their perceptions of how competent or
19. Marketing Objective Of Introducing A Protein Based Beer
Marketing Objective
The primary objective of introducing a protein based beer into the market is to target
a more diverse segment of consumers. Based on the fact that craft beer drinkers are
generally not loyal to a particular brand and are continuously sampling new craft
flavour as new products are continuously introduced into the market, the introduction
of a protein based beer is appealing in that it correlates with the growing national
trend of health consciousness. In Canada, heath awareness is growing among all
Canadians which has led to many individuals pursuing a healthier lifestyle by
integrating continuous health measures into their daily and active lives (BDC, 2013).
Moreover, the high protein trend has surged its way through packaged food and
beverage domains as it is one of the very few nutrients that has remained unscathed by
health controversies (Baroke, 2015).
The core focus pertaining to segmentation will emphasize on the psychographic
lifestyle aspect which will be referred as the Health Conscious Beer Consumer . This
segment refers to individuals who are physically active, generally aware of what they
consume and also appreciate the socializing aspect of consuming beer. It is important
to note that consumers across Canada are becoming more informative and are
continuously making efforts to break adverse habit forming behaviours pertaining to
diet (BDC, 2013). As the health conscious trend expands across the country both
geographically and demographically,
20. Essay On Las Meninas
Las Meninas is an old painting that Diego Velazquez made long time ago. It talk
about the king s family and maids. Las Meninas is one of the most important
paintings made in the nineteenth century. It was made using oil and canvas.
Diego Velazquez is a well known Spanish painter born in June 6, 1599 in Seville,
Spain. He was only thirteen years old when he started drawing. He got married
Juana, Pacheco s daughter a person he worked with for five years the couple had two
daughters. He lived his whole life in Madrid. He went to Italy to learn art in 1629.
Then He was hired by Spain s king Philip IV at age of 25 and he became the king s
favorite painter. In 1650s the king offered Velazquez the main room in his palace, it
was in the palace museum. It was offered to him to use it as his main studio where he
get his paintings done, in this studio Velazquez painted Las Meninas. He has between
110 and 120 known canvas. Philip used to have his own chain in the studio and
often sit and watch Velazquez at his work. After a couple of years 1660AD Diego
Velazquez died. During the last couple of years, he only painted few works after Las

deeper to the drawing we start wondering what is the point of the painting? Is it to
show Infanta and her maids of honor or there is a hidden idea behind it that only the
painter knows about it? We see next that the couple are reflected in the back mirror,
so they are standing in the place where everyone is looking and they are reflected in

21. High Stakes Testing Argument
Education keeps evolving through time. However, it has been stagnant lately. We
are in the period where high stakes tests are one of the largest aspects in education.
It has been like that for a few decades now. A large group of people seem to think
that this is the perfect time for change. There are a lot of arguments going around
opposing the implementation of high stakes testing and vice versa. While doing the
synthesis paper and proposal, I have noticed that most sources tend to talk about the
collateral damage of high stakes testing instead of its perks. As a result, I decided to
interview an admissions officer, because I needed to hear from someone that should
support the use of high stakes testing. I needed to be able to understand both... Show

I was curious if she has heard about all the arguments opposing the implementation
of high stakes testing and what she thinks about it. Hence, I told her about all the
negative arguments surrounding high stakes testing that I have read or heard
before. Mostly regarding its unfair nature to a particular group of people. Some of
the arguments include how standardized tests are unfair because some students
may experience test anxiety and how students attending poorly funded schools
may not get the exact same materials for the standardized tests as the other students
attending relatively better funded schools. Then, I asked Barbara for her opinions
on these arguments. In my opinion, her response was really detailed and very
convincing. She told me that this is the reason admissions offices apply an
individual holistic review process. Standardized tests are important, but they are
not everything. Her advice for students that experience test anxiety is, don t stress
over it too much, you should just try your best . Barbara also mentioned that
college admissions offices still require standardized test scores for their application,
because they believe that these tests are a very good indicator of if a student is
academically prepared for a college s curriculum. She also pointed out that

22. Maria Sotomayor Case
Hello. I am Sonia Maria Sotomayor, the first Latina Supreme Court Justice in U.S
history. As of today, I am 62 years old and am still a U.S. Supreme Court justice. I
have helped with several important cases, including the Obergefell v. Hodges case
(the groundbreaking case in which the court decided to legalize same sex marriage),
and the el Silverman v. Major League Baseball Player Relations Committee, Inc case.
Alas, I suppose I should start at the beginning.
Born to Hispanic immigrants Juan and Celina Baez Sotomayor on June, 25th,
1954, I was raised in the Bronx (one of New York s five boroughs) as the eldest of
two. My brother, Juan Sotomayor, and I had a happy childhood, until my father died
suddenly in 1963, leaving us in my mother s care. Though my mother barely made

Along with participating in various Hispanic/Latina Support organizations, I
additionally operated as co editor of the Yale Law Journal, publishing law and
federal articles. After graduating from Yale in 1979, with a J.D (Juris Doctor)
degree in tow, I went on to work in the office of Robert Morgenthau, a famous
Manhattan attorney; together, we succeeded in prosecuting everything from petty
theft to homicides to child pornography charges. Five years later, I left Morgenthau
s firm and moved to a private firm in league with Pavia and Harcourt, which
specialized in litigation and property rights, before divorcing Kevin Noonan in 1988.
I gained fame quickly and it wasn t long until one of the big guns noticed me;
Senator Daniel Moynihan recommended me to the president at the time, George H.
W. Bush, who promoted me to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of
New York. From there I saw many cases, including the Silverman v. Major League
Baseball Player Relations Committee, Inc case, in which my decision ended the 9

23. Gun Control Laws Are Not Enforceable Essay
On June twelfth, this year the world woke up to the tragic news of a mass shooting
in Orlando, Florida. A twenty three year old man, Omar Mateen, opened fire at a
popular gay nightclub in downtown Orlando known as Pulse. Acting alone Mateen
used an AR 15 assault rifle and a handgun. By the time law enforcement could stop
him fifty people were killed and fifty others were injured. This incident is dubbed the
nation s deadliest mass shooting in history. Shocked from this event and others the
nation called upon its leaders to make a change in gun control law. Gun control has
become the main topic for debate among lawmakers and citizens across the country
due to the deadly attacks within the last decade. Many people debate issues of the
Second Amendment and a variety of other subtopics related to gun control and gun
rights. Gun control laws are not enforceable because there are too many variations in
laws and opinions across the country. Complications in the interpretation of the
Second Amendment, other federal laws, differences between state laws and level of
restrictiveness all add to the confusion and complications of gun control in the United
States. The issue of gun control is complex within itself because each state has their
own laws and set of restrictions. But to understand gun control one must understand
the foundation for gun laws which comes from the Second Amendment. The
Amendment states A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free

The Tragic Cliff
Everyone needs a place to escape the everyday complications of life. Life has its ups
and downs and we all learn to deal with them in different ways. Some people use
exercise to release stress while others find places to hide from the stress for short
periods of time.
I found a place of relaxation hundreds of feet above everyone looking down. Right
outside of town there is a cliff that overlooks the downtown area. There I feel as
though I am above everyone and nothing could touch me. I feel comfort just
knowing I can observe thousands of people below me, like looking at little ants
through a microscope, yet no one can see me. Trees and bushes hover over me like a
blanket giving me shelter. It s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe we both developed a better understanding not only of each other, but of
others as well. We could have spent hours just talking, laughing, and really feeling
alive. What we really found hilarious and surprising was that Dubuque actually
looked absolutely immaculate from such a height. We would never have guessed the
difference in appearance just by looking downward on the city.
One of the first times my friend and I explored the cliff she found a ragged looking
envelope with a dated letter of desperation in it. It was addressed to Whom it May
Concern, and its contents were packed with problems, dreams, answers, and lies in
a sing song pattern. We had to read it a couple of times to fully consume the poetry
and figure out the words that were erased from the still damp paper. About three
pages the poet went on about life in general. It really touched the both of us and
after that, we began to bring our poetry to the cliff and read aloud some of our
thoughts. We never did find out who the author of the poetic letter was, however, it
gave us both the feeling of new hope. I found it very refreshing to know that some
people face life s obstacles in such a creative way. The way I see it and I think the
way the author of the poem sees it, is that when in nature, and especially looking
down upon the world, there is a distance you begin to take on from that world, the
world of the not so beautiful reality. I believe people
25. The Armenian Genocide
Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength.
Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used
to hurt you, is how George R.R. Martin, the author of the Game of Thrones series,
explains the power of identity. Every single one of us belongs to ethnicity or ideology
that we should never be ashamed of. In fact, I am an Armenian and I am very
honored by that. Hence, if I was elected as the Prime Minister of Armenia, I want to

Since the independence of Armenia, the political and militant conflicts of Artsakh has
been a struggle to the Armenians in Armenia, Artsakh, and diaspora. Before taking
any kind of position or action, it is important for me to state that Artsakh is an
Armenian Land, with a majority of Armenian population living on it. In fact, Artsakh
was given to Azeri by a mistake of the Soviet Union, and historically the majority of
the population has been Armenian. From that perspective, it is important to provide a
full safety and security for our brothers and sisters in Artsakh, with different kind of
political solutions without conceding any of their right of land ownership and
personal/familial protection. On the other hand, it is crucial for the Armenian
government not to take any step back geographically. Artsakh was baptized with the
blood of our honorary soldiers in the Armenian Army and other revolutionary heroes.
it is impossible to betray their spilled blood and legacy that draw the freedom of the
Armenian population living there. It is extremely crucial not to forget the sacrifices
of Shahen Meghrian, Mher Choulhajian, Adam Sahakyan, Robert Abajyan, and
others. Therefore, Artsakhtsis need peace, security, protection and their land in order
to keep enriching our Armenian community with scientist, writers, artists, religious,

26. The Global Consumption Of Oil
Oil is an important component in many industries and the majority of global energy
needs are generated by oil. Hence, it is unsurprising that the annual global
consumption of oil is around 30 billion barrels and it accounts for around one third of
all energy consumed . According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration
(EIA),Venezuela and Saudi Arabiaare the top 2 countries with the most proven crude
oil reserves and over 90% of their export revenues come from oil . In addition,
since 1980, OPEC s share of oil revenue in total exports has been consistently over
60%, with the net export revenue at US$730 billion . Hence any disturbance in the
oil sector will cause a drastic impact on these economies. This can be illustrated in
research where it has provided evidence for a negative relationship between
resource abundance and growth. For instance, since the 1970s, Nigeria has been
exporting around $10billion worth of oil annually but during same period the
proportion of its population living on less than $1 per day has doubled from 36% to
70% (Sala I Martin and Subramanian, 2003). Nevertheless, recent studies have shown
that there can also be a positive relationship. Countries rich in oil, such as Malaysia
and Norway have managed to achieve sustained economic growth.
As such, understanding the relationship between oil abundance and growth is vital as
the findings would aid in formulating policies to help oil rich countries combat their
shortcomings and achieve

A Meteor will Strike the Earth and Destroy All Life Forms
With millions and millions of meteors hurtling around in our solar system, there s
always a chance that one could hit Earth at any moment. But what would be the
consequences and how would the Earth be affected if one does happen to hit? If an
object from space hit the sea, a huge tidal wave would be formed, hundreds of
meters high, which would leave most of the world under water for a period of time,
destroying and killing everything in it s way. This would have a catastrophic effect
on the Earth, as most people would be killed, and leaving countries powerless, unable
to do anything. Crops would also be destroyed, starvation would kill all of the

Scientists have never proven this to be 100 % true, but it is one of the beliefs on
how the dinosaurs became extinct. Both scientists and paleontologists, feel that a
meteor must of hit Earth, a few million years ago, killing the dinosaurs. The meteor
that might of wiped out the dinosaurs also could have brought about the ice age,
because of the huge dust cloud that was thrown into the air.
Also, even though this meteor strike never hit Earth, the world watched in awe as
thousands of meteors hit the planet Jupiter two years ago. For about one week, many
meteors collided into Jupiter causing huge craters on it s surface. If the meteors hit
the Earth instead of Jupiter the world might have been destroyed. Almost every
American has to know of the crater in Arizona. About
49,000 years ago, a 150 foot meteor hit into the present day state of Arizona. This is
the biggest crater in the United States.
Throughout time, there have been many meteors that have hit
Earth causing great damage, but the scary thing is that there are still trillions and
trillions of meteors right outside our planet. In the Milky Way, the Earth is one of
the planets with the greatest chance of getting hit by a meteor. The Earth is only one
planet away from the Asteroid Belt, which is located between Mars and Jupiter. At
any moment, a meteor could break free and head straight towards Earth. With
millions of meteors located in this belt there is

The Human Resource (HR) department manages the tangible indirect reward to
employees. The Benefits that an employer provides to their employees are ones
needed to provide the motivation to retain their employment and provide a positive
return on investment. With the rising cost of health care, companies are relying on
their HR department to provide benefits that will help in lowering the cost
associated with older workers. Employers have found one benefit that has provided
the greatest return on their investment as it addresses the rising cost of health care,
absenteeism, and turnover rate of employees. This paper will analyze HR s
management of the benefit package and identify the benefit that has provided a
substantial gain for the employee and employer. Employers have software and
computer systems that have life cycles and equipment such as machinery, trucks,

Francis of Assisi was a poor man who astounded and inspired the Church by taking
the gospel literally not in a narrow fundamentalist sense, but by actually following
all that Jesus said and did, joyfully, without limit and without a mite of self

of life, poverty, and humility before God. He worked to care for the poor. Thousands
were drawn to his sincerity, piety, and joy. In all his actions, Francis sought to follow

from Assisi were butchered in the fight. Only those wealthy enough to expect to be
ransomed were taken prisoner. At last Francis was among the nobility like he
always wanted to be, but chained in a harsh, dark dungeon. All accounts say that
he never lost his happy manner in that horrible place. Finally, after a year in the
dungeon, he was ransomed. Strangely, the experience didn t seem to change him.
He gave himself to partying with as much joy and abandon as he had before the
battle. That period shaped the young man s soul and the weaker his body became,
the more deeply his sense of charity and love towards others took root in him. By
the time he returned to Assisi, he was seriously ill. His mother s loving care and
time itself brought him back to health, but the carefree life he had led before and

Q.2. Institutional framework of the applicability of the accountability principle in
Rwanda.
Rwanda is trying to enhance accountability especially in the public sector by
assessing the extent to which the executive can be held accountable for its use of
funds and for the results of its actions by the electorate and by the legislature and
judiciary, and the extent to which public employees within the executive are required
to account for administrative decisions, use of resources, and results obtained.
There are opportunities to strengthen accountability, by working with bodies that
provide an oversight function monitoring government performance. This section
examines institutions providing two types of accountability: horizontal
accountability between governmental and Constitutional bodies (for example the role
of parliament in monitoring the executive) and vertical accountability between
government and organized groups of citizens (for example, civil society, private
sector and media organisations). Relevant principles in supporting the function of
institutions of accountability are to ensure operational independence, to ensure
appropriate separation of judicial, political and administrative functions when
applying regulation, building integrity and ethical standards within the institutions,
and strengthening capacity, advocacy and communications functions.
In terms of horizontal accountability,

It can be characterized by a fusion of various symptoms, which interfere with
people in a way where they are not able to work, sleep, study, eat, and enjoy their

disorder prevents people from functioning normally. It can occur only once in a
lifetime as a single episode, but most of the time people have multiple episodes.
Furthermore, another form of depressive disorders is dysthymic disorder, or
dysthymia. The thing that particularly characterizes dysthymia are long term
symptoms, which have to be at least two years long. Those symptoms are usually
not severe like the ones in major depression, but they can prevent people from
living a normal life. Minor depression is the third big form of depressive disorders.
It is characterized by having symptoms for at least two weeks, which do not fully
meet the criteria to be considered as major depression. It is very recommendable
for people with minor depression to treat it as soon as possible because it can
develop into major depression. (Moussavi, 2007) Nevertheless, there are a few
forms of depression that are unique, so people cannot really agree on how to
characterize and define those particular forms. One of them is psychotic depression,
which is a combination of severe depression and a form of psychosis such as
delusions and hallucinations. Secondly, postpartum depression

41. Scientific Discovery Of Selective Breeding Essay
Introduction For almost 10 milleniums, with treatises as much as 2000 years old
giving advice on selective breeding, humans have carried out genetic manipulation
on other organisms for their own benefit. Humans manipulate the genetics and
genetic frequencies of both individual organisms and entire populations in order to
raise the frequency of existing or transgenic traits we find useful or desirable.
Human manipulation occurs for a large number of reasons, including; increasing
profit/productivity in agriculture and farming, creating medical aids for human
diseases, increasing survival chances of the given species and opening pathways for
scientific discovery. Two major methods humans manipulation can be noted;
selective breeding, which is the breeding of organisms within the same species to
increase the frequency of existing genes, and transgenesis, the transfer of genes into
the genome of one organism to create new traits, are used. Selective Breeding
Selective breeding is the process in which humans sexually breed animals or plants
for traits that are considered desirable for the goal of producing offspring and

breeding includes marker assisted selection; screening a genome for specific genes of
the parents before actually breeding them, and the original inbreeding/line breeding
which involves breeding organisms with the desired traits with close relatives to

pool. Here we learn that the Finnigans live next door to Tess and Zoe, whose pool
Jerry will later clean (because of the interaction in this scene), and both of whom are
musicians who will eventually perform for perhaps a quarter to a third of the cast.
Altman s eight track dialogue technique is used effectively here to reinforce the
notion that the characters spatial proximity doesn t prevent them from leading
isolated lives.
Another scene which, in my mind, is even better for this purpose is the one in
which we first see the bakery. In this, three storylines converge: Stormy buys a cake
for Betty, Ann places an order for Casey s birthday cake, and Claire stops in on her
way to a performance
43. Switzerland Report 2005 Essay
SWITZERLAND
Switzerland is an independent country that has been able to maintain its neutrality,
making them honored by the major European powers. An interesting historical fact is
that Switzerland was not involved in either of the two World Wars. Switzerland s
active role in many UN and international organizations has been a positive strategy
strengthening ties with its neighbors, but also letting them retain a strong
commitment to neutrality. However, Switzerlanddid not officially become a UN
member until 2002.
Switzerland is located in Central Europe, east of France and North of Italy. Bordering

A strong emphasis on ballot votes arises out of the traditional Swiss belief that the will

The Swiss economy is very prosperous, a stable modern market with a highly skilled
labor force and low unemployment. Their per capita income is virtually the highest in

44. Speeding Research Papers
SPEED! The only thing that people think about when they are in a rush. Have you
ever wonder why there are different speed limits around the U.S.? I bet you have.
Every day somewhere, someone gets in a car crash or is getting a traffic ticket.
The reasons for these situations is because people don t go by the speed limit.
They feel the need to not follow the law. An estimate of 70 percent of Americans
regularly disobeyed the law (Moore). In 1974, President Richard M. Nixon, signs
the Emergency Highway Energy Conservation Act, setting a new national maximum
speed limit. He signed a federal law lowering all national highway speed limits to 55
MPH. This act was intended to force Americans to drive at speeds deemed more fuel
efficient, curbing the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Back in 1983, the economy saved 2.5 billon gallons of gasoline and diesel
(Alter). As the gas prices hovering at three dollars a gallon,a lot of people say they
re making big sacrifices so they can afford to fill their gas tanks. They re cutting
back on travel, curtailing shopping expeditions and going out less
often(www.sfgate.com). Also, when the 55 mph speed limit is restored gas prices
will decrease. For example, the 55 mph speed limit reduced gasoline consumption
by about 167,000 barrels a day (Selingo). Furthermore, when having a gasoline
shortage it decreases our dependence on foreign oil. In 1974, to an oil shortage
caused by the Arab oil embargo, congress set the national speed limit at 55 mph.
Warner provided statistics that showed while fuel consumption was lowered, lives
were saved. At lower speeds, the Energy Department, expects cars to operate at
optimum efficiency. Moreover, drivers could see fuel levels upheld and prices at the
pump reduced (Editorial Board). Also, Lower speed limits takes more travel time
which cost money. If your car car gets 30 MPG at 55MPH and 25 MPG at 65MPH
then you d save about 3.33 gallons of gasoline. The CNN article cited study said 55
MPH would save 2% in national gas usage( www.freeby50.com). By just slowing
down from 65 MPH to 55 MPH can increase your miles per gallon by much as 15
percent. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, you can assume that each 5
mph you drive over 60 miles is like paying an additional $0.21 per gallon for gas(

45. Roman Catholic Reforms During The Counter Reformation
Once the protestant Reformation began, the roman Catholics, in addition to
continuing their efforts to reform the Catholic church, needed to reform, or stop the
protestant movement. The Roman Catholic s used several methods during the
Counter Reformation. First, they established the Council of Trent, which defined
Catholic doctrines, and eliminated abuses in the church. The Monarchies also play a
major role in keeping the catholic faith alive by simply being catholic. And finally,
major groups who dedicated themselves to combating the spread of Protestantism
such as Jesuits and the Congregation of the Holy Office also contributed greatly by
reducing the spread. PopePaul the third, recognized the need for reform, thus
summoned the Council of Trent, which met in sessions. These assembly s composed
of bishops and church leaders only. They both defined Roman Catholic doctrine. In
their consideration of this doctrine, the Council rejected any compromises with the
Protestants. Instead, they strongly reaffirmed traditional Catholic teaching. For
example, they declared that the sources of Christian faith were to be found both in
the bible and in the traditions of the church. They also say that there are 7 sacraments
instead of two. basically, rejecting most of Luther s teachings. The council thus
preserved the papacy as a unifying enter for the catholic churchand helped prevent the
very real threat of dissolution. The most important accomplishments of the council
however, was the
46. Pros And Cons Of The One Child Policy
Since Thomas Malthus s Essay on the Principle of Population, published in 1798, the
exponential growth of population and the arithmetic growth of necessities like food
production have haunted the subconscious of social scientists and demographers.
However, places like China and the Soviet Union rejected Malthus s ideas, often for
historical and political reasons. In the middle of the twentieth century China faced a
huge increase in population. Their solution was to create the now infamous One
Child Policy. The government s main concern in both instituting the policy and later
changing it to the Two Child Policy was protecting the economy from the burden of a
fluctuating population. Although China has claimed the policy prevented around 400

The many human rights abuses, the aging population, and the millions of orphaned
and illegal children all attest to the magnitude of this mistaken policy. Even with the
switch to the Two Child Policy, nothing but the name and the number of children
permitted has changed. The fact still remains that it does nothing to combat the
serious demographic problems China faces. If the government were not overly
concerned with its own pride, power, and economy, it would see that revoking the
policy would end the horror stories of forced abortion, Heihaizi, and other violations
based on prejudice and disregard towards women. It is clear that the One Child Policy
has truly been a story of a government s pride and a society s
47. Compare And Contrast The Indian Camp And The Doctor s
Wife
Ernest Hemingway was a writer who captured the spirit of his generation.
Hemingway wrote The Indian Camp and The Doctor and the Doctor s Wife .
Indian Camp is a story about a boy named Nick and his father who went to the
Indian Camp to help deliver the baby. While there they witnessed the baby s father
commit suicide. This sparked Nick s curiosity with death. Both stories detail Nick
s coming of age into adulthood. In the Doctor and the Doctor s Wife Nick s father
wants Dick, Eddy, and Billy to go cut up the wood that is on the beach but Dick tries
to tell him that it would by considered stealing because the logs belong to the Magic
crew. Ernest Hemingways short storyIndian Camp and The Doctor and the Doctor s

An Indian woman had been in labor for 2 days, and was in pain and screaming.
While the woman helped her the men went off. The man had moved off up the
road to sit in the dark and smoke out of range of the noise she made. (92) This is
sexism because they left the women to care for the Indian woman that was having
a baby. They think it is for women to care for her and did not help at all. Instead
they tried to go far away so they didn t even have to listen to her pain. Also sexism
is in the article Forget the Legend and Read the Work by Margaret Bauer. Therefore
not only do I not dispute the opinion that the woman in labor is a mere prop in
Indian Camp, but also I defend Hemingway s using her as a vehicle toward Nick s
potential development and a means of revealing Nick s fathers callousness.
Discussing the issue that women in much of Hemingway s work are not very
important of and by themselves (Bauer 2). In the Doctor and the Doctor s Wife,
sexism is portrayed by Hemingway when he describes the interaction between the
wife and the doctor. He leaves her without answering her questions and goes off to
hunt with his son. Hemingway can be determined as a sexist by the way he
portrays the women in his stories as weak and inferior to men. Some people
believe that sexism was part of Hemingway s life because he was married 4 times
and had many mistresses and because of this and the way that he writes he is
viewed as a sexist. An example of masculinity versus femininity in the Doctor and
the Doctor s Wife is shown when the doctor is cleaning his shot gun and the wife
says you didn t say anything to anger him did you? and the doctor replies no . This
implies that the wife is weak because she does not want a confrontation. Nick
chooses to go with his father because he wants to be seen as a man and like his
father. The doctor wants to feel like a tough man but walks away from Dick s

Autoethnography
Recently Christians of all denominations are getting a reputation of being hateful and
hypocritical. I identify with non denominational Christianity, my beliefs fall most
closely with Evangelical Christianity.
I am part of Grace Covenant Church, which is part of an organization called, Every
Nation. Every Nation has churches in Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, and America.
Some folkways that I practice are going to church every Sunday and talking about
the message with my family afterwards. For me, church has never been about
meeting with people who think like me, it was my time to spend with God. I always
preferred one on one time with God, rather than group discussion. Our church holds

right from wrong. If I was not raised Christian I would have turned to drugs or self
harm, which were both extremely prevalent in my school system. There were
people who I knew that would go out at night to vandalize property or break the
law for the thrill, all while wearing a neckless with a cross on it. If I had not been
educated properly, I would have grown up despising Christians for their hypocritical
nature. The foundations for what I believe are inherited from my parents who are
both Christian and brought me to church every day. I do think that my religion is my
personal choice though. My parents have always said that they would support me
no matter what I do in life, even if I were to lose faith in God. I was never pressured
to be Christian, but I found truth to the teachings of the church, it was the one place
that I felt completely at
49. Robert Andrew Millikan Essay
Robert Andrew Millikan
In 1909 Robert Andrew Millikan set up an apparatus to measure the charge of an
electron within an accuracy range of 3%. In 1913 he came out with a value of the
electrical charge that would serve the world of science for a generation. Young
Millikan had a childhood like most others: he had no idea what his profession would
be. Once he recalled trying to jump from a rowboat to a dock, falling in the water,
and almost drowning. Here he had his first account with physics Newton s Third Law
of Motion: quot; For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction quot;. Even

Thus, he began writing better textbooks for the University of Chicago, quot;In fact he

During his 12 hours of teaching each day Millikan spent half of his time doing
research. In 1909 he constructed his first oil drop apparatus to determine the
charge of an electron. Millikan discovered that the charge depended on the
frequency of incident light. In the beginning of his experimentation Millikan was
using a drop of water. Using a water drop only gave Millikan forty five seconds in
which to measure the charge, due to the volatility of the water. Millikan then
switched to using a drop of oil because of its low volatility and as a result was
allowed four and one half hours to measure the charge.
In 1909 Millikan figured he was within 2% of being accurate. In 1910
Millikan actually announced numerical value for this fundamental atomic constant,
4.891x10 10 esu. [ After Millikan announced this number he was elected Vice
Chairman and Director of Research for the National Research Council in 1917.]
Millikan realized there were inaccuracies when then photocurrent near the cutoff
point was too low to measure. Noticing that the current was highest when the metal
was fresh Millikan fashioned his targets into thick cylinders and rigged up an electro
magnetically controlled knife to
50. The Effect Of Biofeedback On Basketball Players And
Effect...
2. Background Information
This study analyzes the use of biofeedback in basketball players and the effect on
their on court performance. Athletes need to have the capability to modify, learn, and
correct their muscle memory. Enhancing an athlete s performance depends on the
ability for the central and peripheral nervous systems to communicate in response to
an active stimulus. This study has some variables measured including the reaction
time: the time between the stimulus and a bodily movement; the movement time: the
time taken in the middle of the onset and completion of the bodily movement; and the
response time: the aggregate time of the reaction and movement. There have been
previous studies that look at the use of Electromyographic Biofeedback (EMG BFB)
and Electroencephalographic Biofeedback (EEG BFB) and found correlations
between improvement in performance and responsiveness to stimuli. However, there
has not been an analysis of the use of Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback (HRV BFB)
which measures an increase in the response time and attention deficit in athletes. The
most important aspect of an athlete s performance is the ability to tune out outside
disturbances during a game or match. If an athlete can master that skill, then they can
perform at their optimum output. Having the ability to enhance their techniques is
important for achievement in sports, especially in basketball, where there are a
multitude of offensive and defensive skills. Most notably,
