Elizabethan Women s Rights Movement
In every era, all over the world, there have been groups who suffered at the hands of another. The
greatest thing about looking back through history is learning that despite all odds stacked against
them, these groups fought to change their status in life. One such group of people are women, women
all over the world who fought and continue to fight today for their rights. Women s Right Movements
began in the middle of the 19th century as women became more educated and realized that they
needed political power to improve the world around them. After years of effort by suffrage
campaigners led by Kate Sheppard, New Zealand became the first country in the world to grant
women the right to vote in national elections in 1893. In 1903, Marie Curie ... Show more content on

The violence against women can be traced back to the deep rooted inequality between the sexes and
male dominance over the course of history which has resulted in the belief and behavior of men that
they have the right to control women. Such beliefs can explain why one in three women has been
abused or subjected by men while between 40 and 70 percent of female murder victims were killed by
their intimate partners. Violence against women is just one of the many ways that oppression towards
women has survived throughout history and manifested itself in different

Why College Athletes Should Get Paid And Why They Shouldn t
November 18, 2014
Ebeling 2
Intro:
How much harder would athletes work if they were paid for their performance on the field, track, or
court? College athletes are put to the test each and everyday, they risk their health to entertain millions
day in and day out. College athletes deserve part of the money due to the revenue they bring in for
their schools and for the NCAA, they deserve the money because they do not have time to get a job
because they are practicing and training at least 40 hours a week, they should also get paid because
they are used as marketing models for the ncaa and for their universities. College athletes also should
not get paid because they are already getting paid in scholarship money. College athletes deserve to
get paid because they are putting their bodies on the line just so the NCAA and their sponsors can
make money.
Lit Review:
Throughout my paper I will demonstrate many different ideas on whether college athletes should get
paid why they should not. I will talk about the things paying the athletes will do for the NCAA, how it
is unfair for athletes to be used and not get anything out of those moments, and they generate revenue
for the NCAA just on certain players presence. I will also talk about why college athletes should not
get paid. They

Examples Of Constructive Nature Of Memory
1.0 THE CONSTRUCTIVE NATURE OF MEMORY
1.1 DEFINITION
The constructive nature of memory holds that we use a variety of information such as perceptions,
beliefs and attitude to fill in gaps, and that the accuracy of our memory may be altered.
1.2 DISCUSSION
In this part, we will conclude what is constructive nature of memory and some of the examples of how
it works.
I. What is the Constructive Nature of Memory
Memory is never a literal recount of past experiences. Rather, it is dependent on the constructive
processes present at the time of encoding that are subject to potential errors and distortions.
Essentially, the constructive memory process functions by encoding the patterns of physical
characteristics that are perceived by the individual, as well as the interpretive conceptual and ... Show

The Examples on how the Constructive Nature of Memory works
A study by Addis et al in which participants were scanned while they were either remembering a past
experience or imagining an event that might occur in the future. Addis et al divided each of these tasks
into two phases. In the initial construction phase, participants generated either a remembered or an
imagined event in response to a cue word (example, dress ) and made a button press when they had an
event in mind, which typically required about 7 or 8 seconds. In the immediately following
elaboration phase, participants generated as much detail as possible about the remembered or
imagined event.
The most striking finding was that brain activity was highly similar during remembering the past and
imagining the future. This overlap was most apparent during the elaboration phase, when participants
focused on generating details about the remembered or imagined event. A core network of brain
regions that had previously been implicated in the retrieval of episodic memories, and has also been
linked to a variety of internally driven cognitive processes showed common activation during both
remembering and

Administrative Justice Model
Learning the history of the police force of England, Ireland, and Wales justice systems was a pretty
eye opening experience for me because I only know the American police force. We learn the primary
emphasis is on the history and development of the two major national systems of Administrative
Justice Model with the American Common Law Model. On this trip I was able to broaden my
understanding of and appreciation for criminal justice practices and issues in the England, Ireland and
Wales criminal justice systems. I was able to explore the conflict and distinctions between legal
requirements, personal morality, and ethical principles and beliefs. I was able to enhance my
understanding of the ethical dilemmas faced by professionals in the criminal ... Show more content on

He found a land in which law and order was breaking down in the rural areas. After attempts to solve
the problem by setting up a Peace Preservation Force in 1814 and later a system of county
constabularies under the Constabulary Act of 1822, a single police force, The Constabulary of Ireland,
was established in 1836. The Constabulary of Ireland was a trained and disciplined force under the
central control of the government administration at Dublin Castle. It represented a fresh start in
policing and members served under a strict code, which governed all aspects of their lives, on and off
duty. Elaborate precautions were taken to ensure that its members displayed strict impartiality at all
times. The Constabulary of Ireland carried out a full range of policing tasks, but it s most important
task was that of security, due to the ever present threat of nationalist insurrection. Due to this it was
organized as a colonial constabulary and as an armed, quasi military force, rather than along the lines
of other conventional police forces in the British Isles. It says, The Garda Síochána na hÉireann (in

Critical Appreciation Of Kipling
Credit here must be given to Kipling for doing a fantastic job at transliterating different accents and
dialects. That s usually difficult for an author to pull off convincingly, but here it is flawlessly done.
Particularly effective is when Kim and other characters switch from translated Hindi, fluent and full of
thees and thous, to transliterated English that comes out like Oah, I am verr ee sorr ee, Sahib, and can t
help but be read with the author s intended diction and cadence.
The picture which Kipling paints of India under British rule in the late 19th century is evident. Kipling
deals with India in all of its bewildering diversity; the various religious communities, the cities and the
rural areas, the plains and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It suits his independent, inquisitive, adventurous personality perfectly, being a natural development for
the child who loves the game of running secret missions across the rooftops of Lahore:
what he loved was the game for its own sake, the stealthy prowl through the dark gullies and lanes, the
crawl up a water pipe, the headlong flight from housetop to housetop under cover of the hot dark (
Kipling.p.5).
In the end, there is a couple of camouflaged men traveling as being fur traders, though both of them
moles, one from Russia, one from France. They have their guide, Kim is supposed to sabotage their
trip and gain some knowledge about their spying activities.
One of the merchants beats the lama, which tends to aggravate the wrath of Kim and all the natives.
On the other hand, the traders, the Frenchman and the Russian are left with nothing; and Kim assumes
control and takes over all their maps and secret papers, it is considered a coup for British intelligence.
The lama becomes representative of the spirituality and native culture of the countryside, and Kim the

National Infrastructure Protection Plan For Implementing...
There are certain regulatory agencies that have oversite of the national grid. These agencies ensure the
power companies adhere to the rules and regulations set forth in enacted bills as well as employ
security best practices to limit the risk of intrusion from cyber attacks (Li et al., 2012). The federal
agencies that have the greatest amount of oversite on the power grid are the Department of Homeland
Defense (DHS), The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
(FERC).
Department of Homeland Security
DHS is tasked with creating a national infrastructure protection plan for all critical infrastructure in the
country. The plan is designed to ensure critical infrastructure is safe, secure and reliable enough to
prevent, withstand or neutralize deliberate efforts by terrorist to exploit or destroy the power grid (Li
et al., 2012). The plan also details procedures for strengthening national preparedness as well as
providing timely responses to cyber attacks. The goal of DHS is to ensure the power grid employs
static methods in its operations that allow it to quickly respond and recover from a catastrophic event
(Kuder et al., 2010).
Department of Energy
The DOE was established to organize disjointed regulatory processes and create a national energy plan
(Kuder et al., 2010). One of the main functions of the DOE is to monitor and report on the security of
the smart grid. The primary objective of the reports are to provide data that may be

Historical Trends Of Human Service Policy
Historical Trends in Human Service Policy In the context of human service, the current practice of
social welfare in Europe and America is a product of evolutionary change. The social welfare structure
in countries such as Canada, France, and the United States draw from English social welfare policies
that created foundational structures of current social welfare practice. The practice of social welfare
traces back to English heritage spanning back to a time when English policies operated in British
colonies (Guest, 1997). English policies such as the Elizabethan Poor Laws of 1594 and 1601 and the
1662 Law of Settlement and Removal defined human service and social welfare in England and her
colonies (Ascoli Cnaan, 1997). In the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the paper also analyzes the net gains and losses of these trends to the society. One of the
profound historical trends in regards to human service was the English poor laws that governed the
treatment of the poor. Following the enactment of the Elizabethan poor laws in 1601, the English
embarked on an entirely new approach of dealing with the poor in the society. While the poor laws
appeared harsh in England and colonial in English colonies, these laws defined policies that
spearheaded action in human service in regards to the treatment of the poor in society. Essentially, the
concepts, ideologies, policies, approaches, and discourse provided by the pool laws defined a human
service structure that still informs the current practice of social welfare (Carniol, 2005). Prior to the
Elizabethan poor laws, the practice of social welfare consisted of voluntary subscription to a poor
relief fund by the poor coupled with the use of harsh punishment to discourage vagabonds and beggars
(Guest, 1997). This practice related to a general assumption that paupers or rather the poor suffered
from moral deficiency that render them poor and dependent (Hasenfeld Garrow, 2012). In this regard,
the treatment of the poor was most often than not harsh. The Elizabethan poor laws however ushered
in a new dispensation that resumed full public responsibility for the poor and the destitute in the
society. The establishment of a public tax supported system aimed at providing

Corporate Social Responsibility Components Of The Company
Corporate Social Responsibility components
Corporate social responsibility of the company manifests itself not only to customers but also
employees and environment. In the brand s core there are based principles of respect and
understanding for the normal functioning of all processes starting from the development and
production to marketing and sales of finished products. The LVMH values in people their interests,
needs and values (Social Responsibility, n.d.). This policy is ideally focused on developing new ways
of production and using raw materials and resources in innovations according to environment changes.
That is why, one of the most important parts in production of product plays The LVMH Environmental
Department. The main objectives of the Department are aimed at designing of products by using new
innovations and controlling environmental risks (Environment, n.d.). The brand has different
initiatives for all Houses. For example, there is an initiative for the Perfumes Cosmetics Houses and

The Themes Of Revenge And Family In The Vendattas
Overall all of my four texts, show us the themes of revenge and family. Each text has either a
character or a set of characters that aim to get their payback because one of their family member s has
been hurt or killed. In the Patriot, Benjamin martin s son was murdered, in Inglouris Bastards,
Shozzanas family was murdered, in Smashed, Toby sisters was raped, and in The Vendattas, the old
widows son was murdered. In each of these texts, the avenger experiences grief and shock and we as
the audience see how that feeling turns into a deep anger that fuels revenge. Furthermore none of the
avengers, have been hurt physically or emotionally directly, it is their family which has been. The
theme of family which connects my four texts, is seen through this idea of family members getting

This links to my other theme revenge, since it theirs pain that other family member experiences that
gives warrant to for character to seek revenge. As seen in my texts revenge is seen as a way to satisfy
ones emotions of anger and grief. It is important to note that these ideas are not old ones. Both the idea
of a strong family connection, and getting revenge is simply human nature. All four texts show human
nature at its finest. The variation of time periods of my texts back this up because it shows how human
nature has not changed from the 1700 s to now. Although human nature can be a good thing in terms
of protecting family and survival, it has its flaws. In all four texts, my characters have based their
decisions to seek revenge on their emotions. The irrational decision that my characters make, are form
of human nature also. Human are animals, and we inherit animal instincts such as the ability to make
mistakes. The texts I have selected teach us, through the themes of revenge and family ,that making
decisions based on emotions, instead of using our brain is a dangerous thing to

Protecting Pesticides In Frogs
Without herbicides, the most widely used class of pesticides in the United States, crop production and
yields would drop, pristine habitat would have to be plowed under to accommodate more crop acres,
and the additional cultivation would result in more soil erosion (Brandon). Pesticides also protect the
crop from rodents and insects who want to feed off of them. By eliminating the pests, there is a lesser
chance of diseases (which the rodents and insects carry with them). It also ensures the healthiness of
the crop and allows us to have popular produce year round or keep it fresh while traveling around the

Besides adding a melody of croaking in rainforests, frogs help us as well. Frogs around the world are
used for medicinal purposes. Treatments from frogs alone include toxins from the Panamanian Poison
Frog that could be useful for heart disease, painkillers from the Ecuadorian Poison Frog, anti bacterial
compounds from the skin of the African Clawed Frog, and compounds from the Chinese Large
Webbed Bell Toad that dilate blood vessels and so could treat high blood pressure, and frog glue could
repair cartilage (Chivian 18). Through the effects of pesticides they are stripped of their lives,
morphed into devastating forms, and altered until they can never reproduce again. If people continue
to stand by and watch our biodiversity deplete then our numbers of human population will too. There
won t be any more medical, chemical, and mechanical inspiration given to us by the intelligent
creature which is the frog. Instead, we will be left with another page in the textbook referring to a

Valley Forge. This was 20 miles outside of Philadelphia, where the British had taken control of earlier
that year. The conditions were terrible at Valley Forge, the weather was freezing and many soldiers

U.s. Foreign Exchange Market
If you ever traveled to a foreign country preferably outside the tourist traps and spent money, you
probably had to exchange your domestic money for local currency. Regardless of where you made
such a trade, such as at a currency exchange kiosk when you landed at the airport, the fact that you
successfully transacted two, completely distinct currencies related by an exchange rate means that you
were, for the briefest of moments, a participant in the nearly $4 trillion a day foreign exchange market,
or forex. But it is unlikely that such a gargantuan turnover is the appreciable result of money changing
by spendthrift globetrotters. Rather, in today s globalized economy, any institution, from a small
export business to a central bank, is liable to have a hand in the currency and therefore the purchasing
power of a foreign country. While the foreign exchange market may seem like a complicated world of
arcane finance, it is not only possible for you to actively participate in it, but there is a highly
developed infrastructure of individual or retail forex trading ready for your attempts to turn a profit
from besting the ever changing exchange rate between currencies. While a professional
comprehension of forex trading entails far more practical and conceptual knowledge than this process
paper can capture, good preparation and a methodical understanding of the fundamentals of forex
practices can help you develop the basic skills to get started in retail forex trading.

Whiteness In The Bluest Eye
Whiteness manifests itself in The Bluest Eye as a symbol of desire or the standard of beauty. Symbols
like Shirley Temple and blue eyes reflect society s social acceptability. Likewise, this negatively
effects characters like Pecola who then internalizes whiteness as beauty and her own complexion as
ugly similar to the doll test . Pecola is also cursed out of Geraldine s home because of her complexion
while she reinforces whiteness as this standard of beauty that is unrealistically obtainable for Pecola

Sula s depiction of whiteness manifests itself as antagonism to blackness. By this I mean that unlike

The first and foremost effect of her trauma is reflected in her recalcitrant lifestyle. After releasing from
the psychiatric unit, Lisbeth was put under guardianship. By guardianship an individual who is not
capable of living independently and managing his or her own expenses is put under the control of a
responsible person who would inspect him/her from time to time, help in managing fund and produce
reports from time to time about the improvement of the individual. Lisbeth Salander was put under the
guardianship of an advocate Holger Palmgren, a nice man interested in altruistic activities. He is the
only positive inspiration in salander s life. He understood Salander and tolerated all her eccentricities
and violent behaviour like a father handling a difficult teenager. She had joined a rock band named
Evil fingers and started dressing herself like a junkie belonging to some Satan cult. She got herself
drunk, used drugs, had sexual intercourse with whomever she like no matter male or female. She had a
wayward Lifestyle and was usually an outlaw. Holger Palmgren never attempted to advise her on her
behaviour. Instead he talked to one of his friends at Milton security Agency and got her a job of
checking mails and making coffee. He was liberal enough to allow Lisbeth Salander handle her own
expenses. Suddenly one fine day Lisbeth discovered him when having stroke on the apartment floor
and had admitted him in the hospital. When the doctors had no hope of his survival, Lisbeth unable to
tolerate his upcoming death deserted him in the hospital. After the stroke, her guardian was changed
by the government. She was handed over to a new guardian, Nils Bjurman. This man turned out to be
anything but goodness. Right from the first conversation she understood that their relationship is going

Analysis Of The Scholarly Article Offshore Aquifers By...
In the scholarly article Offshore Aquifers by Renee Martin Nagle, she discusses the discovery of fresh
water sources being found in the ocean. Nagle talks about the water shortage not only are an issue for
California, but also the entire world. She talks about how there are two different types of aquifers,
recharging and non recharging aquifers. Recharging aquifers are aquifers are linked with the surface
and receive its water reserves from rainwater, streams, rivers, and runoff. They are commonly found
close to the surface. They are more susceptible to over use and pollution. Non recharging aquifers are
usually found deep beneath the surface, and porous rocks, buried beneath a solid layer of sedimentary
limestone or dolomite rock. The water found in the non recharging aquifers arrives there because it
gets trapped there when tectonic plates shift, and sea levels where much lower 20,000 years ago when
the Siberian land bridge allowed humans to travel from Asia to the Americas. Nagle also discussed
both pro s and con s of extracting the water from the ocean. It will not be an easy task because while
the United States is fighting a water shortage, attempting to mine the water from the ocean could
cause huge irreversible damage to the ecosystem of the ocean and pollution to the environment. If the
drilling is not done very carefully, the entire water supply could be contaminated. Nagle discusses that
the underwater drilling would be comparable to drilling oil

SUBJECT: Oil Drilling amp; Gas Extraction Industry in the US Analysis (21111)
This report presents information regarding the industry, the primary operator of oil and gas field
properties. The industry fuels its key buyers, the Natural Gas Distribution (22121) and the Petroleum
Refining (32411) industries, with crude oil and natural gas. The industry continuously battles a
shortage of available oil. In addition, many major oil fields have been in use for decades, slowly
waning. Currently, the industry grosses among the most profitable in the US despite these and similar

New firms lacking this versatility may find an obstacle upon entry to the industry (Hersch, 2012).
Additionally, firms in this industry must specialize in exploration and discovery for oil and gas
resources. Firms may struggle finding initial success in this role due to the limited nature of resources.
Long term Resource Depletion
Peak oil refers to the prime of any field s production, after which goes into terminal decline. Most
major US oil fields are beyond peak oil. The largest US oil field, Prudhoe Bay, has been depleting
since 1979 (Prudhoe, 2012). The US Energy Information Administration indicates much production,
particularly in the Alaskan North Slope, depends on world oil prices (Energy, 2012). Geophysicists
and politicians debate over specifications regarding overall US peak oil, arguing the year in which US
peak oil occurred.

The Therapeutic Effects of Music Therapy
AbstractDifferent alternatives are used when providing health care in the medical setting. The
objective of music therapy is to achieve therapeutic effects coinciding with or without the use of drug
therapy. Patients in the hospital setting and at home are utilizing this new wave of therapy. While
opening gates for better communication during treatment, it also helps patients better manage their
illness, disease, or stressful situation. Primarily, music therapy is used for patients suffering with long
term disabilities such as dementia, in crisis situations that have devastating mental effects, in
recovering from surgery, and in the privacy of people s homes. Heard virtually everywhere, music is

Mainstream America was not aware of the potential benefits of music therapy in this situation until
brought to light by The New York City Music Therapy Relief Project. This organization, combined
with over 50 years of practice and research in music therapy, has demonstrated the impact it can have
as a second wave relief in helping to cope with events surrounding a crisis and its aftermath (Music
Therapy, 2004). Having this type of access provides people with a better understanding of the problem
and provides them with a means to fix it. People tend to block out the information or stimuli that is
causing the trauma during a crisis and events are suppressed deep within the brain helping it and the
body cope with this degree of trauma. Music therapy helped to develop a stronger sense of readiness
to cope with day to day stressors and potential future crisis situations (Music Therapy, 2004).
According to the article Music Therapy in Response to Crisis and Trauma (2004), during an eight
month program, seven thousand music therapy interventions were facilitated in schools, senior
centers, healthcare facilities and other locations throughout the New York metropolitan area to help
with coping. Selected groups of programs were geared towards health care workers, counselors, crisis
workers, firemen, and policeman who responded in helping others cope with the event. Therapy
sessions were primarily centered on families recovering from the devastating

St Louis And Saint Louis
The Saint Louis Man
Throughout my six years at Saint Louis I was taught to become a Saint Louis Man. Saint Louis
molded me. They have been teaching the students how to respect all their peers, especially women for
over 165 years. Being a gentleman shows in these two traits of a Saint Louis Man, Live the golden
rule and respect all people, especially women and also the life of my brother, Alika Pilialoha Fonseca.
Outsiders look at those who attend Saint Louis as disrespectful and they do not know how to treat
women properly; however, Saint Louis prepares the men of Kalaepohaku to be gentlemen to all people
especially women in college and the workforce.
The character of a Saint Louis Man are instilled into our everyday lives from school, to the real world
and ongoing into our life as adults . One of the traits that exemplifies respecting women is the golden
rule, treat others the way you want to be treated . The teachings we learn at Saint Louis is to imagine if
someone mistreats one of your female family members or spouse, wouldnʻt you be furious? So donʻt
go out to make other people have that feeling. Treat your peers with respect if you want respect,
everyone who gives the respect, deserves respect.
Respect all people, especially women ; this trait of being a Saint Louis man is emphasized to the point
of knowing it like it is your first name. As a graduate from Saint Louis I can say that our teachers and
faculty are good examples of living the Saint Louis Man

Ruben s The Rape of the Sabine Women is estimated to have been painted between 1635 to 1640 in
Antwerp. It is an oil painting on oak and it is 169.9 cm x 236.2 cm. Rubens shows the story when the
Romans invited the Sabine tribe to the games in Rome. At the signal, Romulus, the king, the Romans
carry off the women. The background shows the later episode of when the Sabines attacked the
Romans and were defeated. It is currently at the National Gallery in London, England.
The painting is set like a square with different scenes on each side with space in the middle. In the
background there is a blue sky. There is a dome structure and before it is a covered arch with four
columns on its side. A railing is shown to separate two scenes in the painting in front of the arch. On

Benefits Of Denying The Antecedent
What exactly is denying the Antecedent? It is a fallacy in formal logic where in a standard if/then
premise, the antecedent (what comes after the if ) is made not true, and then it is concludes that the
consequent (what comes after the then ) is not true. Denying the antecedent, sometimes also called
inverse error or fallacy of the inverse, is a formal fallacy of inferring the inverse from the original
statement. I choose this argument because I didn t know much about it, and I felt like I could
understand it more if I knew more about the different arguments. Arguments of this form are invalid.
Informally, this means that arguments of this form do not give good reason to establish their
conclusions, even if their premises are true. When I read about it in the text book it seemed interesting
to learn about, and this became the perfect opportunity to do so. I feel like this assignment as giving a
lot of clarification on understanding the differences in the arguments. ... Show more content on

because this is a formal argument following a strict form, even if the conclusion seems to be true, the

Diffusion, Osmosis and Active Transport
This is an individual study investigating the process of diffusion, osmosis and active transport. To start
you should know that substances are moving in and out of cells of your body all the time. To
understand and make sense of the cells of your body, you need to know about the process of diffusion,
osmosis and active transport.
All organisms need to exchange particles such as food, waste, gas and heat with their surroundings.
there are two different types of ways in which substances can enter or/and leave a cell. these ways are
called Passive and Active. with in these there are different processes for example, in passive process
there are diffusion, facilitated diffusion and osmosis and in the active process there is molecule and
particle. in this assignment I am going to discuss all of these processes starting with diffusion.
diffusion is one of the passive transport processes. it is used in oxygen entering a cell and carbon
dioxide leaving a cell. diffusion is the movement of particles such as atoms or molecules from a high
concentration place in an area of a low concentration. this shows that they diffuse down the
concentration gradient. the concentration gradient is a gradual change in the concentration of solutes
in a solution as a function of distance through a solution. in biology a gradient results from an unequal
distribution of particles across the cell membrane. When this happens solutes move along the
concentration gradient until the concentration of the

How Tom Wolfe Changed America
Tom Wolfe has a strange to almost creepy approach to the piece, although he does a fantastic job of
explaining the culture shift that occurred between the 18th 20th centaury. When identifying the way
America s have changed their opinions of the sexual acts of hooking up , from the once hatred act of
sleeping in the same bed before marriage to the friendly way of explaining which act was performed
using a baseball diamond. Eventually it transformed to we hooked up but didn t even have sex. Wolfe
tries to present his research in a modern, young kind of fashion, but comes off more of menacing and
egotistic. I believe that Wolfe s argument is that the 2000 s changed the history of America for forever,
in a negative aspect and also a positive way. That in the beginning wealth was accompanied by an
elegant wardrobe and personal chauffeur, through time however with the advancement in technology
and the radical new idea of the internet were introduced people perspective of wealth changed

Essay on Fear Eating Away at Gilbert Grape
Fear influences the way humans react and the actions that transpire. Some embrace the feeling of fear;
others try to overcome obstacles that fear creates. Sometimes, fear stimulates a strong response of self
isolation to shield one s mind from accepting emotion. The response, however, can manifest into an
extreme nature, creating the personality that Gilbert Grape exhibits. Peter Hedges clearly
communicates the fact that Gilbert underwent a transformation and his personality reflects the change.
The transformation not only causes Gilbert to become conflicted with expressing feelings, but he fears
the guilt of doing so as well. Gilbert struggles with the family controlling the opinions, emotions and
actions he makes. Peter Hedges ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gilbert cuts off the idea of protest immediately when the fear of judgment arises. He would rather
suffer in silence, than run the risk of rejection from his family. As What s Eating Gilbert Grape
progresses, readers see the drastic turn of Gilbert s fear into an extreme nature. With added frustration
and suppressed emotions prompted by his family, fear cripples Gilbert to an extreme point. As
previously mentioned, Gilbert is troubled with questioning his family and himself. However, the fear
has escalated into a dangerous state, where even the smallest questions trigger his fear of judgment.
Hedges writes, He doesn t want to answer your question, Amy. Oh, I do. Very Much I do, but... I fall
silent (Hedges, 121). Gilbert becomes so afraid of judgment that he cannot even answer a simple
question about his sister s ideas. Evidence proves that Gilbert progressed into that state due to the
crippling nature of fears. Again, Peter Gray writes, But in tasks that require creativity, new insights, or
learning, we do better when we are not being evaluated, so are not afraid of failure (Gray, 81). Gray
explains that people are able to inquire on ideas without being judged and when failure is eliminated.
Gilbert emulates Gray s analysis as he will only speak to himself, alone. Therefore, the family prompts
the fear and Gilbert reacts to it with an

Bach And Liszt Essay
Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Liszt were both renowned for their keyboard proficiency and talent
for composing. Bach was born in Germany and influenced by the Baroque period when music was
centered on religion. Liszt was Hungarian born and influenced by the Romantic period, a time when
composers began breaking away from the traditional and expressing themselves through music.
Coming from different periods the two composers exhibited vast differences and overlapping
similarities. Johann Sebastian Bach was born to a musical family in the Duchy of Saxe Eisenach in
1685. The youngest of eight children, he received a classical education from an early age as well as
being taught the violin and music theory by his father. Bach was a devout Lutheran who composed
many sacred works for the church including masterpiece, The St. Matthew Passion (Sherrane, 2015,
para. 4). As a composer, Bach enriched established German styles through his skill in counterpoint,

How Stress Affects Everyone Regardless Of Their...
Stress affects everyone regardless of their background, ethnicity, gender or personality. These factors
can be important to detect how vulnerable a person is to stress. Williams and Cooper use the four way
model to describe how stress works (2002, 6). In this model, coping mechanisms, sources of pressure,
personality and positive/negative effects are all connected to each other. Personality is the main block
that faces both the pressure and the coping mechanisms. From there, a person could either get affected
negatively and be stressed, or get positive effects out of the situation and reach to the growth phase
(Williams Cooper, 2002, 7). Stress is in people`s lives from the very first moment that they are able to
perceive and understand the social standards. Since people spend most of their life time at work
dealing with many responsibilities, there are many stressors created in the workplace. According to
Matteson and Ivancevich, life without the right amount of stress would not be motivating or exciting
(1982, 11). However, high amount of stress is costly for both the employee and the employer. The
commercial costs of stress at work include sickness absence, poor service, legal claims, insurance
claims, staff turnover, low productivity, poor quality, lack of innovation, low morale, bad working
relationships, poor decision making and accidents (Williams Cooper, 2002, 35). It is crucial to
understand the workplace stressors; by doing so, effective coping strategies can

Analysis Of Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass

Mrs. Stack
AP English, Period 7
14 August 2015
In His Own Words: Analysis of The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass They say that one can
never fully understand a situation until he/she is put into that scenario themselves. Too often, history is
written by those who have only read and researched the issues, remaining distant and objective to get
all the facts straight. While there is honor in this approach, one cannot experience the horror of war,
the thrill of victory, or the reality of a situation if written from a third person perspective. No, history
is best told by those who have participated in it: the soldiers who crawled through the muddy trenches,
the revelers who celebrated the great national victory, or the people who did not witness history, but
made it. Particularly on the issue of slavery, copious amounts of writing exist on both the pro slavery
and anti slavery side from scholars, politicians, and citizens supporting their views, but very little
exists from the perspective of slaves and former slaves. This in part is what makes The Narrative of
the Life of Frederick Douglass, an autobiography of former slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass,
so incredible and valuable to the American audience. Speaking with authority as one who has
experienced slavery firsthand, the self educated Douglass exquisitely manipulates a bevy of literary
devices, such as setting, writing style, and allegory, to illustrate the horrors of slavery and form a

Use Of A Computer On The Basic Level
Nowadays we live in the era of computers. Everybody should know at least how to use a computer on
the basic level. I ve found a great resource both for those who are willing to improve their
programming skills and for those who only start programming!
Example:
In this hour, you get a chance to learn some Python basics, such as using the print function to display
output. You will read about using variables and how to assign values to variables, and you will gain an
understanding of their data types. By the end of the hour, you will know how to get data into a script
by using the input function and write your first Python script!
Producing Python Script Output
Understanding how to produce output from a Python script is a good starting point for those who are
new to the Python programming language. You get instant feedback on your Python statements from
the Python interactive interpreter and can experiment with proper syntax. The print function, which
you met in Hour 3, Setting Up a Programming Environment, is a good place to focus your attention.
Exploring the print Function
A function is a group of Python statements that are put together as a unit to perform a specific task.
You simply enter a single Python statement to perform a task for you.

children respected their elders, workers worked hard to provide for their families who grew up in nice

The 1950s were a prodigious time period for family life but not for the individual or societal ethics.

These types of articles forced women to behave in a way that lived up to a standard set by white
patriarchs. Once these women edited their appearances to stand out to a man and learned to be an
exceptional wife, they often became bored with their lives of sitting around the house because they
were not allowed to go out into the world. Document M takes an excerpt from a doctor s research on
why so many women came in with bored looks on their faces asking what was wrong with them.
Instead of the doctors telling them to go out and enjoy themselves they often prescribed tranquilizers.
These women would wake up and pop a tranquilizer, making them not care that they felt like they did
not want to live like that another day. Problems like those were often caused by society s iniquitous
codes for life.
The insecurities of the individual were caused by the poor societal ethics of the time. Document B

beautiful, they needed to buy products to alter their appearances. This was an example of social

The Catcher Of The Rye, By F. D. Salinger
During the 1950 s, literature underwent a tremendous change in structure as well as philosophy. J. D.
Salinger s book The Catcher in the Rye helped contribute to this revolution by highlighting new
philosophies in literature. This is evident in pre 1950 writing as well as the changes that persisted
through the remaining part of the decade, especially in the writing style popularized during the Great
Depression. The Catcher in the Rye also contributed to a change in conflict. This conflict started as an
external object to overcome, but after the release of this book and other, the conflict changed from
external to internal and became a moral or philosophical struggle to be thought about rather than
something to overcome. Jerome David Salinger began his life on January 1, 1919 in New York, New
York. Salinger was born to Sol and Miriam Salinger, and he was the younger of two children. Salinger
s father was a rabbi who ran a successful ham and cheese import business. Salinger mother was
Scottish born and non Jewish, but mixed marriages were looked at crudely. So Miriam decided to hide
her heritage from almost everyone and it was only after Salinger s bar mitzvah that he found out about

The greatest thing about looking back through history is learning that despite all odds stacked against them, these groups fought to change their status in life. One such group of people are women, women all over the world who fought and continue to fight today for their rights. Women s Right Movements began in the middle of the 19th century as women became more educated and realized that they needed political power to improve the world around them. After years of effort by suffrage campaigners led by Kate Sheppard, New Zealand became the first country in the world to grant women the right to vote in national elections in 1893. In 1903, Marie Curie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why College Athletes Should Get Paid Ebeling 1 Austin Ebeling English 115 Why College Athletes Should Get Paid And Why They Shouldn t November 18, 2014 Ebeling 2 Intro: How much harder would athletes work if they were paid for their performance on the field, track, or court? College athletes are put to the test each and everyday, they risk their health to entertain millions day in and day out. College athletes deserve part of the money due to the revenue they bring in for their schools and for the NCAA, they deserve the money because they do not have time to get a job because they are practicing and training at least 40 hours a week, they should also get paid because they are used as marketing models for the ncaa and for their universities. College athletes also should not get paid because they are already getting paid in scholarship money. College athletes deserve to get paid because they are putting their bodies on the line just so the NCAA and their sponsors can make money. Lit Review: Throughout my paper I will demonstrate many different ideas on whether college athletes should get paid why they should not. I will talk about the things paying the athletes will do for the NCAA, how it is unfair for athletes to be used and not get anything out of those moments, and they generate revenue for the NCAA just on certain players presence. Examples Of Constructive Nature Of Memory 1.0 THE CONSTRUCTIVE NATURE OF MEMORY 1.1 DEFINITION The constructive nature of memory holds that we use a variety of information such as perceptions, beliefs and attitude to fill in gaps, and that the accuracy of our memory may be altered. 1.2 DISCUSSION In this part, we will conclude what is constructive nature of memory and some of the examples of how it works. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Examples on how the Constructive Nature of Memory works A study by Addis et al in which participants were scanned while they were either remembering a past experience or imagining an event that might occur in the future. Addis et al divided each of these tasks into two phases. In the initial construction phase, participants generated either a remembered or an imagined event in response to a cue word (example, dress ) and made a button press when they had an event in mind, which typically required about 7 or 8 seconds. In the immediately following elaboration phase, participants generated as much detail as possible about the remembered or imagined event. The most striking finding was that brain activity was highly similar during remembering the past and imagining the future. This overlap was most apparent during the elaboration phase, when participants focused on generating details about the remembered or imagined event. A core network of brain regions that had previously been implicated in the retrieval of episodic memories, and has also been linked to a variety of internally driven cognitive processes showed common activation during both remembering and ... After attempts to solve the problem by setting up a Peace Preservation Force in 1814 and later a system of county constabularies under the Constabulary Act of 1822, a single police force, The Constabulary of Ireland, was established in 1836. The Constabulary of Ireland was a trained and disciplined force under the central control of the government administration at Dublin Castle. It represented a fresh start in policing and members served under a strict code, which governed all aspects of their lives, on and off duty. Elaborate precautions were taken to ensure that its members displayed strict impartiality at all times. Due to this it was organized as a colonial constabulary and as an armed, quasi military force, rather than along the lines of other conventional police forces in the British Isles. That s usually difficult for an author to pull off convincingly, but here it is flawlessly done. Particularly effective is when Kim and other characters switch from translated Hindi, fluent and full of thees and thous, to transliterated English that comes out like Oah, I am verr ee sorr ee, Sahib, and can t help but be read with the author s intended diction and cadence. • 9. National Infrastructure Protection Plan For Implementing... There are certain regulatory agencies that have oversite of the national grid. These agencies ensure the power companies adhere to the rules and regulations set forth in enacted bills as well as employ security best practices to limit the risk of intrusion from cyber attacks (Li et al., 2012). The federal agencies that have the greatest amount of oversite on the power grid are the Department of Homeland Defense (DHS), The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Department of Homeland Security DHS is tasked with creating a national infrastructure protection plan for all critical infrastructure in the country. The plan is designed to ensure critical infrastructure is safe, secure and reliable enough to prevent, withstand or neutralize deliberate efforts by terrorist to exploit or destroy the power grid (Li et al., 2012). The plan also details procedures for strengthening national preparedness as well as providing timely responses to cyber attacks. The goal of DHS is to ensure the power grid employs static methods in its operations that allow it to quickly respond and recover from a catastrophic event (Kuder et al., 2010). Department of Energy The DOE was established to organize disjointed regulatory processes and create a national energy plan (Kuder et al., 2010). • 10. Historical Trends Of Human Service Policy Historical Trends in Human Service Policy In the context of human service, the current practice of social welfare in Europe and America is a product of evolutionary change. The social welfare structure in countries such as Canada, France, and the United States draw from English social welfare policies that created foundational structures of current social welfare practice. The practice of social welfare traces back to English heritage spanning back to a time when English policies operated in British colonies (Guest, 1997). English policies such as the Elizabethan Poor Laws of 1594 and 1601 and the 1662 Law of Settlement and Removal defined human service and social welfare in England and her colonies (Ascoli Cnaan, 1997). One of the profound historical trends in regards to human service was the English poor laws that governed the treatment of the poor. Following the enactment of the Elizabethan poor laws in 1601, the English embarked on an entirely new approach of dealing with the poor in the society. While the poor laws appeared harsh in England and colonial in English colonies, these laws defined policies that spearheaded action in human service in regards to the treatment of the poor in society. Essentially, the concepts, ideologies, policies, approaches, and discourse provided by the pool laws defined a human service structure that still informs the current practice of social welfare (Carniol, 2005). Prior to the Elizabethan poor laws, the practice of social welfare consisted of voluntary subscription to a poor relief fund by the poor coupled with the use of harsh punishment to discourage vagabonds and beggars (Guest, 1997). This practice related to a general assumption that paupers or rather the poor suffered from moral deficiency that render them poor and dependent (Hasenfeld Garrow, 2012). In this regard, the treatment of the poor was most often than not harsh. The Elizabethan poor laws however ushered in a new dispensation that resumed full public responsibility for the poor and the destitute in the society. In the scholarly article Offshore Aquifers by Renee Martin Nagle, she discusses the discovery of fresh water sources being found in the ocean. Nagle talks about the water shortage not only are an issue for California, but also the entire world. She talks about how there are two different types of aquifers, recharging and non recharging aquifers. Recharging aquifers are aquifers are linked with the surface and receive its water reserves from rainwater, streams, rivers, and runoff. They are commonly found close to the surface. They are more susceptible to over use and pollution. Non recharging aquifers are usually found deep beneath the surface, and porous rocks, buried beneath a solid layer of sedimentary limestone or dolomite rock. The water found in the non recharging aquifers arrives there because it gets trapped there when tectonic plates shift, and sea levels where much lower 20,000 years ago when the Siberian land bridge allowed humans to travel from Asia to the Americas. Nagle also discussed both pro s and con s of extracting the water from the ocean. It will not be an easy task because while the United States is fighting a water shortage, attempting to mine the water from the ocean could cause huge irreversible damage to the ecosystem of the ocean and pollution to the environment. If the drilling is not done very carefully, the entire water supply could be contaminated. Nagle discusses that the underwater drilling would be comparable to drilling oil ... To start you should know that substances are moving in and out of cells of your body all the time. To understand and make sense of the cells of your body, you need to know about the process of diffusion, osmosis and active transport. All organisms need to exchange particles such as food, waste, gas and heat with their surroundings. there are two different types of ways in which substances can enter or/and leave a cell. these ways are called Passive and Active. with in these there are different processes for example, in passive process there are diffusion, facilitated diffusion and osmosis and in the active process there is molecule and particle. in this assignment I am going to discuss all of these processes starting with diffusion. diffusion is one of the passive transport processes. it is used in oxygen entering a cell and carbon dioxide leaving a cell. diffusion is the movement of particles such as atoms or molecules from a high concentration place in an area of a low concentration. this shows that they diffuse down the concentration gradient. the concentration gradient is a gradual change in the concentration of solutes in a solution as a function of distance through a solution. in biology a gradient results from an unequal distribution of particles across the cell membrane. When this happens solutes move along the concentration gradient until the concentration of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eventually it transformed to we hooked up but didn t even have sex. Wolfe tries to present his research in a modern, young kind of fashion, but comes off more of menacing and egotistic. I believe that Wolfe s argument is that the 2000 s changed the history of America for forever, in a negative aspect and also a positive way. Some embrace the feeling of fear; others try to overcome obstacles that fear creates. Sometimes, fear stimulates a strong response of self isolation to shield one s mind from accepting emotion. The response, however, can manifest into an extreme nature, creating the personality that Gilbert Grape exhibits. Peter Hedges clearly communicates the fact that Gilbert underwent a transformation and his personality reflects the change. The transformation not only causes Gilbert to become conflicted with expressing feelings, but he fears the guilt of doing so as well. Gilbert cuts off the idea of protest immediately when the fear of judgment arises. He would rather suffer in silence, than run the risk of rejection from his family. As What s Eating Gilbert Grape progresses, readers see the drastic turn of Gilbert s fear into an extreme nature. With added frustration and suppressed emotions prompted by his family, fear cripples Gilbert to an extreme point. As previously mentioned, Gilbert is troubled with questioning his family and himself. However, the fear has escalated into a dangerous state, where even the smallest questions trigger his fear of judgment. Hedges writes, He doesn t want to answer your question, Amy. Oh, I do. Very Much I do, but... I fall silent (Hedges, 121). Gilbert becomes so afraid of judgment that he cannot even answer a simple question about his sister s ideas. Evidence proves that Gilbert progressed into that state due to the crippling nature of fears. Again, Peter Gray writes, But in tasks that require creativity, new insights, or learning, we do better when we are not being evaluated, so are not afraid of failure (Gray, 81). Gray explains that people are able to inquire on ideas without being judged and when failure is eliminated. Gilbert emulates Gray s analysis as he will only speak to himself, alone. Therefore, the family prompts the fear and Gilbert reacts to it with an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bach was born in Germany and influenced by the Baroque period when music was centered on religion. Liszt was Hungarian born and influenced by the Romantic period, a time when composers began breaking away from the traditional and expressing themselves through music. Coming from different periods the two composers exhibited vast differences and overlapping similarities. Johann Sebastian Bach was born to a musical family in the Duchy of Saxe Eisenach in 1685. The youngest of eight children, he received a classical education from an early age as well as being taught the violin and music theory by his father. Bach was a devout Lutheran who composed many sacred works for the church including masterpiece, The St. Matthew Passion (Sherrane, 2015, para. 4). • 35. How Stress Affects Everyone Regardless Of Their... Stress affects everyone regardless of their background, ethnicity, gender or personality. These factors can be important to detect how vulnerable a person is to stress. Williams and Cooper use the four way model to describe how stress works (2002, 6). In this model, coping mechanisms, sources of pressure, personality and positive/negative effects are all connected to each other. Personality is the main block that faces both the pressure and the coping mechanisms. From there, a person could either get affected negatively and be stressed, or get positive effects out of the situation and reach to the growth phase (Williams Cooper, 2002, 7). Stress is in people`s lives from the very first moment that they are able to perceive and understand the social standards. Since people spend most of their life time at work dealing with many responsibilities, there are many stressors created in the workplace. According to Matteson and Ivancevich, life without the right amount of stress would not be motivating or exciting (1982, 11). However, high amount of stress is costly for both the employee and the employer. The commercial costs of stress at work include sickness absence, poor service, legal claims, insurance claims, staff turnover, low productivity, poor quality, lack of innovation, low morale, bad working relationships, poor decision making and accidents (Williams Cooper, 2002, 35). It is crucial to understand the workplace stressors; by doing so, effective coping strategies can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Analysis Of Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass Reid Champlin Mrs. Stack AP English, Period 7 14 August 2015 In His Own Words: Analysis of The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass They say that one can never fully understand a situation until he/she is put into that scenario themselves. Too often, history is written by those who have only read and researched the issues, remaining distant and objective to get all the facts straight. While there is honor in this approach, one cannot experience the horror of war, the thrill of victory, or the reality of a situation if written from a third person perspective. No, history is best told by those who have participated in it: the soldiers who crawled through the muddy trenches, the revelers who celebrated the great national victory, or the people who did not witness history, but made it. Particularly on the issue of slavery, copious amounts of writing exist on both the pro slavery and anti slavery side from scholars, politicians, and citizens supporting their views, but very little exists from the perspective of slaves and former slaves. This in part is what makes The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an autobiography of former slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass, so incredible and valuable to the American audience. Speaking with authority as one who has experienced slavery firsthand, the self educated Douglass exquisitely manipulates a bevy of literary devices, such as setting, writing style, and allegory, to illustrate the horrors of slavery and form a ... The forced conformity, neglect of the poor, and segregation are often overlooked when talking about the decade as they were during the time period. Once these women edited their appearances to stand out to a man and learned to be an exceptional wife, they often became bored with their lives of sitting around the house because they were not allowed to go out into the world. Document M takes an excerpt from a doctor s research on why so many women came in with bored looks on their faces asking what was wrong with them. Instead of the doctors telling them to go out and enjoy themselves they often prescribed tranquilizers. These women would wake up and pop a tranquilizer, making them not care that they felt like they did not want to live like that another day. Problems like those were often caused by society s iniquitous codes for life. The insecurities of the individual were caused by the poor societal ethics of the time. Document B shows this where society told women that they had to be beautiful and since no one was born beautiful, they needed to buy products to alter their appearances. This was an example of social conformity, which was another poor ethic of the time. Salinger s book The Catcher in the Rye helped contribute to this revolution by highlighting new philosophies in literature. This is evident in pre 1950 writing as well as the changes that persisted through the remaining part of the decade, especially in the writing style popularized during the Great Depression. The Catcher in the Rye also contributed to a change in conflict. This conflict started as an external object to overcome, but after the release of this book and other, the conflict changed from external to internal and became a moral or philosophical struggle to be thought about rather than something to overcome.
