Physical Activity Journal Analysis
My physical activity journal is rather boring. The only real physical activity I do is walk to campus
from my house. Since my house is somewhat far away, I walk for a decent amount of time. My total
moderate intensity equivalent minutes for the week adds up to 485 minutes, all of this is walking
around at about three miles per hour. I did not partake in any muscle strengthening days during the
past week. I simply do not have enough time to go work out at the rec center, even though I would
love to weight lift there. As I said before, I primarily walk everywhere I go. I work at Cambus, so I
usually walk to campus and catch a bus to work from there. Most of my class times are spread out
throughout the day, so I usually walk to campus three or four times a day. In ... Show more content on

I think I could also implement a strength training program into my daily activities. I used to weight lift
a decent amount in high school. While doing this, I felt very many positive rewards. It helped boost
my self esteem, along with making me feel more energized. I think these benefits derived from weight
lifting would be a great improvement to my lifestyle, and it may lead me to greater self satisfaction. If
I were to start lifting again, I would follow a similar training plan I learned in high school. It
coordinates greatly to the concepts we learned in class. In regards to the fourth critical thinking
question, the neighborhoods and communities around Iowa City offer a great atmosphere for physical
activity. The University of Iowa offers students use of their recreation center and services. Iowa s
campus also has many parks and green space allowing for people to play sports and run around. The
streets of Iowa City are somewhat safe for those who choose to bike. Along with this, the city has
many bike paths available to its citizens. Specifically, my neighborhood is very bike friendly in the

An Educated Person Is One Who s Education Surpasses The...
An educated person is one who s education surpasses the national average in their respected country.
An educated person has the ability and drive to succeed no matter what social and economic
background one has. Knowing the reason why being highly educated matters in life, and having a
passion to learn. Similarly, to understand what is learned during the process of being educated, take
the time to truly comprehend the facts, and the reasons behind the facts. Otherwise they might be
forgotten and if so, are you still an educated person? Consider the following methods: the banking
concept where facts are repeated to you and from that are memorized so you can repeat them back,
and the problem posing concept where ideas are introduced and everyone learns from each other
(Freire 144, 147). The ability and drive to succeed no matter what stands in your path, whether the
problem is economical, social, or cultural, overcoming obstacles is a part of life that everyone does
and each hurdle is a step closer to the end goal; the prize of being educated. Simply put, knowledge is
power, where the highly educated oversee the less educated, and the non educated have little to no
chance of being wealthy or respected (Spayde 66). According to Spayde, those unfortunate enough to
not have the opportunity for a higher education are viewed as being limited to an in the streets
education (69). An in the streets education is the education you receive from living life that typically

The Odyssey, By Homer, And The Inferno
Ulysses in Hell The two epics The Odyssey, by Homer, and The Inferno, by Dante, both works have
two different perspectives of the character Ulysses. The Odyssey is told from the ancient Greek
perspective around 700BC, and The Inferno is told from a Christian point of view in 1300AD. Both
epics are written nearly 2000 years apart from each other. What set apart the ideals of both epics are
the Pagan warrior perspective in Homer s epic and the Christian Europe perspective in Dante s epic.
The controversial topic is what makes Ulysses a hero in The Odyssey and what makes him one of the
world s greatest sinners in The Inferno? In The Odyssey, Odysseus or Ulysses, is considered a hero.
Odysseus portrays all the qualities of a hero in this epic. He portrays courage, wisdom, and endurance
throughout the work, which makes up the qualities of a Pagan warrior s idea of a hero. Zeus says
Great Odysseus who excels all men in wisdom, excels in offerings too he gives the immortal gods
who rule the vaulting skies? (Ody. 1.78 80). When speaking about Odysseus, he describes him as
wise. Odysseus uses wisdom in the various obstacles he crosses on his journey home. Wisdom is all
about knowing who you truly are and where you are going. This means denying temptation and not
forgetting where you are going. On his journey home, he must turn down, possibly one of the greatest
temptations, which is immortality. In hopes of keeping Odysseus with her, and not leaving to return
home she says

Summary Of Post American World
What makes the book, Post American World, by Fareed Zakaria so interesting is the fact that many of
the points made about the decline of America and what needs to be changed is the direct commotion
of the current political campaigns. As a young growing male developing my understanding of how the
country and countries work and interact the idea of the Post American World, allowed me to
understand why the election this year is so different compared to the past. Although I was not as
present in the past election, the commotion that has been caused to this year has brought more
attention to me and the world than it has before. Within the book the idea that the U.S. has been doing

Paycheck Fairness Essay
Paycheck Fairness Act Valuing the Employee The Paycheck Fairness Act can aid an organization in
laying the foundation to value employees equally and add a level of transparency without retaliation.
The vantage point of paying everyone equally, regardless of race, gender, religious and/or sexual
preference may seem as an obvious option as we are all created equal. The vantage point of paying a
person what they are worth, what type of experience they may bring to the table, or what value they

I sit back knowing John was right as much as I hated to admit it. We always bet dumb things and I

miles south of town. This forest called The Black Forest was supposedly haunted. There was a report
of an attack last weekend and one kid had to go to the hospital. It was apparently an attack by a ghost
or demon, but after seeing the marks it looks like an animal attacked him. I sit back and try to think of
a way to get around this bet or make it more suitable for me.

The Key Areas Separating Bosses From Leaders
By examining the definitions of the words, you ll already be able to notice the intricacies at play.
While at the outset the two words can seem rather similar and interchangeable, the closer examination
highlights differences that give both roles a different meaning. So, what are the key areas separating
bosses from leaders? The major differences between the two can be divided into six core areas of the
focus, the driving force, the approach to work and objectives, the source of their authority, the
communication and delegation style, and their accountability.
The focus
When it comes to an organisation, the key consideration is often the focus of the organisation. What is
it for and why? The underlying focus is what drives an organisation, but also the individual to perform
the required tasks. The focus gives direction and largely determines the approach to work. So, what is
the focus for the two?
For a boss the end objective is profit. A boss is in a role, which is about guaranteeing the organisation
the best financial results that ll help guarantee the continuation of the business. That s behind the boss
interest in supervising things getting done. The boss is not interested in how the subordinates get from
Point A to Point B because the result is all that matters. If you are able to achieve the goals and do it in
an efficient manner, then the boss is happy as this guarantees the organisation enjoys a profit. The
orientation of the boss is about achieving the goals,

Why Does Jane Austen Use Of The Gothic
Explore How Austen Makes Use of the Gothic in the Novel
Throughout Northanger Abbey Jane Austen uses gothic horror to describe main events that highly
influence the outcome of the novel. The book bases its whole plot around gothic horror but it s not
really a gothic horror but more of parody of a gothic horror.
At the very start of the book (pages 3 4) Austen introduces the character of Catherine. She uses
stereotypical characteristics from a normal Gothic Horror novel to somewhat tell the reader that
Catherine is remarkably none of these things. As the reader this tells you Austen portrays her as a plain
and unaccountable character with a very unremarkable life, not that of stereotypical heroine from a
gothic horror novel. She tells ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Upon reaching Northanger Abbey (chapter 21) Catherine is led to a separate chamber in the house
very unlike the one Henry had endeavoured to alarm her by the description of this shows Austen isn t
writing a typical gothic horror story when she describes Catherin s apartment as altogether far from
uncheerful compared to Tilney s description with gloomy passages.
Whilst at Northanger Catherine discovers a high old fashioned black cabinet within her room a
rousing curiosity rouses within her and she investigates the contents of it. This is Austen once again
using the plot of something from within your average gothic horror story to manipulate Catherine s
imagination. As she reads so many gothic horror novels this is her mind linking real life to fantasy
once again and imagining strange looking items that may be in one of her books to items of furniture
in her apartment. This tells the reader Austen is mocking gothic horror and how readers base their
whole lives around these books and how they seem to take over your

Double Indemnity Adaptation Essay

Dr. V. Hromulak
10 December 2015
The Adaption of Double Indemnity Although adaptions are not a new form of entertainment, recent
trends show that the many books that are forced to change to film tend to provoke criticism and
debate. This type of attitude was definitely prevccalent in the film Double Indemnity directed by Billy
Wilder. This was because it was adapted from the novella by James Cain which held the same title.
Substantial differences from the novella made the film a richer and better depicted story for the
audience. It is agreeable that the nature of the adaption was made so that it would be easily understood
by the audiences it was going to be viewed by. The novella Double Indemnity was first published in
1934 and was James Cain s second novel. The entire novella is told in first person point of view, by
the criminal Walter Huff in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film was similar to the movie in the point of view aspect because both were told by first person
criminal, Walter Neff. The film keeps the confessional criminal aspect of narration, but changes the
order of events by revealing that Walter is a murderer from the beginning. This makes the film
adaption depict a different view of the story from the very beginning rather than letting it unfold like
in the novella. This serves to angle audiences in a way that Wilder wanted as well as emphasizing the
despair at the center of the story. The characters in the film are basically unfolding their predetermined
destiny which is different from the novella. Walter Huff and Phyllis Nirdlinger, the main characters of
the book, become Walter Neff and Phyllis Dietrichson in the film. In the film, they do devise a scheme
to murder Phyllis s husband and cash out on the rewards of his life insurance policy. The actual dollar
amount varies, but there are far more important differences than that.

My Annual Salary For Five Years
The hospital would allow me to have a deferred sabbatical leave and I would receive eighty percent of
my annual salary for five years. Daniel did not have a job offer because there was no available

California. We were not too much concerned about the fact that he did not have a job opportunity in
Quebec because we were very busy with the wedding, selling our condo and moving all our
belongings to Los Angeles. We were just trying to do one thing at the time so we would not be
overwhelmed. It was now the time for us to enjoy our trip to our new home for the year. Our Los
Angeles condo was rather small. It contained a bedroom, a narrow bathroom, a kitchen and a shared
dining/living room. It was recently renovated and everything was in the white and grey tones. The
kitchen had a white and grey granite counter top with stainless steel appliances and all the cabinets
were painted in white. The floor was the only thing that brought character to the place as it was made
of stained dark oak wood. The only closet was so tiny that I tried pushing on the walls hoping it was
hiding a secret space. I already got rid of half of my clothes just before leaving and now I was about to
get rid of the other half. I could not believe how much we were paying for renting such a small
apartment. It was cozy but too pricy for its size. At least our front door led to a beautiful garden that

The Wrong Enemy
Carlotta Gall s February 6 piece in the New York Times (NYT), titled Pakistan s Hand in the Rise of
International Jihad, is a journalistic marvel. It spotlights the dizzying creativity a human brain is
capable of when paired with a massive axe to grind. Unfortunately, for prose jammed with so many
accusations, Gall s piece is surprisingly light on substantive sources. Oh, but she makes up for this
foible by heaping dollops of self righteous Americentrism.
No surprises here. Gall, after all, penned The Wrong Enemy: America in Afghanistan 2001 2014, a
tome that must surely feature as essential reading for Pakistanophobes. In her book, Gall posits that
Washington s Afghan war strategy was flawed from the get go. After felling the Taliban, US forces
should have kept marching east instead of invading Iraq. Why? Because without Pakistan s patronage,
neither they nor Al Qaeda could ever have bloomed in the region.

Armadillidium vulgare are commonly known as pill bug. Pill bugs belong to the kingdom Animalia
and are classified as Malacostraca. Belonging to the order of Isopoda, they belong to the
Armadillidiidae family, and classified into the genus Armadillidium. A. vulgare are found in soil with
a preference to moist environment (Holland 2014). This species see with ommatidia, smell using
esthetascs, and touch with tactile setae to sense their environment (Holland 2014). Migita and
Moriyama (2004) declare that in unknown environments, animal behaves inappropriately by
expressing their innate or learned behavioral patterns. A. vulgare are often found constantly moving
around the edge of the Petri dish because the environment is unfamiliar and appears as an obstacle

It is usually represented by a combination of loops that leave the N pole and enter the S pole. These
loops are called the magnetic flux. When a charge moves in an electric field, it will experience an
electrostatic force given by an equation F=qE. Also, when a charge enters a magnetic field B, a
magnetic force is exerted. F=qv*B. If the charge moves in a wire, with length L, the force can be
represented as F=ILBsin(theta). In the experiment, we were able to study the nature of the magnetic
fields around the poles of magnets which helps me understand more about the concept of magnetic
fields. We also determined the magnitude of magnetic force on a current carrying wire. We found out
that these variables are directly proportional to each other. Lastly, we also study the nature of the
relationships between magnetic force and magnetic field, current, length and orientation of current

How Do Animals Respond To Their Environment
Plants and Animals: How they respond to their Environment
The two supergroups of plants and animals have many similarities and differences in terms of how
each responds to their environment. While animals move about and roam the earth, plants have always
been stationary and have learned to live off the surrounding environment. From this being the case
that plants are stationary and animals are mobile, they have evolutionary adapted different ways to
respond to stimuli and changes in their environment.
The traits of being mobile or stationary has effected how these two supergroups respond to stimuli in
their environments. Both plants and animals may be affected by similar biotic and abiotic stimuli such
as environmental stresses, sunlight, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plants can respond using any number of tropisms, which result in a plant organ moving toward or
away from a stimulus. Almost all of these responses are under hormonal control. Thigomotropism, a
response to touch, is a reaction plants make when pressure is put onto any part of the plant. An
example of this could be as simple as an insect landing on the leaf of the plant, and the reaction to the
stimulus would be the folding of the leaves. Other tropisms such as gravitropism and phototropism are
responses to light and the forces of gravity. An example of how plants may respond to light or any
other tropism can be explained through a signal transduction pathway. The plant detects light using a
phytochrome, which can detect two types of red light. This part of the process is reception. In
transduction Ca2+ channels are opened on the cell wall allowing for the movement of molecules into
the cell activating a protein kinase, during this time a second messenger activates a second protein
kinase. The protein kinases bind to transcription factors, which are then translated by the nucleus to
respond to the light stimulus and activate a de etiolation response which in turn greens the plant, along
with the greening responses plants will start to grow leaves for photosynthesis. This is just one
response a plant may make to react to its

Activism In The Hunger Games
Today is Martin Luther King Day. Martin Luther King Junior was highly known for his activism
during the Civil Rights Movement. In his final Mountaintop speech, he proclaimed, The nation is sick.
Trouble is in the land; confusion all around. That s a strange statement. But I know, somehow, that
only when it is dark enough can you see the stars. And I see God working ... in a way that men, in
some strange way, are responding. Something is happening in our world. The masses of people are
rising up. (1) Martin Luther King Junior was a symbol of hope for equality for the oppressed, peace
for the nation, and most of all, love, for all people. This is a similar theme found in Mockingjay. As

She volunteered to take her sister s occupation as a tribute for the 74th Hunger Games not because she
was attempting to be a heroine. However, this move was what catapulted her into various tiers of
activism. Her climatic activism occurred in Mockingjay. Everything she went through led her to a
place where she felt no option but to fight for equality, peace and love for her people. She battled for
complete equality for all 13 districts of Panem, sacrificed herself as a whole for others safety, and in
the resolution, she gave hope for the freedom to love. As the Hunger Games trilogy draws to close,
Katniss finally embraces the tender future ahead. She might have felt like Martin Luther King Junior
when he said, Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate;
only love can do that. If you can t fly then run, if you can t run then walk, if you can t walk then crawl,
but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward. Free at last, Free at last, Thank God almighty,

Music of Robert Schumann as a New Stage in the Development...
Music of Robert Schumann as a New Stage in the Development of Romanticism
Music of Robert Schumann embodies many of the most characteristic features of German
Romanticism deep psychological insight, aspiration for the ideal, intimacy, irony and bitterness.
Advanced aesthetic tendencies of German culture in the period of 1820 40s found vivid expression in
his music. In contradictions, which are inherent in Schumann s music, reflected the complex
contradictions of the social life from his time. His music is filled with a restless, rebellious spirit that
puts him in the same line with Byron, Heine, Goethe, Wagner and others. However, the theme of
rebellion in the music of Schumann has a psychological, but very lyrical representation. Compared to
Heinrich Heine, Victor Hugo, and Ludwig Van Beethoven who viewed the world through the prism of
social injustice, Schumann did not aim towards social revolt. The greatest part of his diverse heritage
was his personal confession in music. Schumann s piano music, for instance, Kreisleriana, Op.16 and
the Symphonic Etudes, op.13, are truly a musical encyclopedia of the human soul with many nuances
and tones, with shades of colors of joy, sorrow, anguish, doubt and struggle, dreams and anxieties,
rush, despair, faith and courage.
E.T.A. Hoffmann in his writing Dichtungen und Schriften defined genius as a person who is able to
touch us, to move us mightily, the artist himself must be deeply affected in his own heart. Effective

History And Perceptions Of American Sign Language Essay
History and Perceptions of American Sign Language
Sign language is one most common ways for deaf individuals to communicate without using of their
voices. Different cultures and languages will typically have their own version of sign language so
signs are not always universal, just like gestures are not universal. Signs are culturally bound in
communication just like verbal languages and gestures are culturally bound. I will examine the history
of American Sign Language, as well as how it has been viewed culturally with positive and negative
social implications in the U.S.
History of American Sign Language
In order to fully understand the creation of American Sign Language (ASL), it must be understood that
it is a form of communication. That means every sign has a meaning that is culturally bound just like
languages in oral communication. That also means that the language has a distinctive origin. In fact,
ASL carries several linguistic features that are similar to spoken languages (Rosen, 2008) such as the
presence of homonyms and its constant evolution (Shaw Delaporte, 2011). The unique concept about
ASL, though, is that it actually has very strong ties and connections with the French Sign Language,
also known as LFS. This connection is explained by Delaporte Shaw (2009) and Shaw Delaporte
(2011) as being due to how ASL was formalized in the U.S. by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet with the
help of a deaf French professor named Laurent Clerc who used LSF. Because LFS

Impact Of Oil Spills On The Economy Of Northern Nigeria
Abstract
Over the years cases have been heard of destruction of the fertile area of Niger delta due to oil spills.
The most affected area is in Nigeria where reports state that there have been more than 400 tons spills.
The major reason given behind the spills is due to human mistakes. In a report provided by the
national oil spills detection in Nigeria indicated that there were more than 1200 oil spill sites that had
been left out by the oil companies by the year 2008 along the Niger delta. Even though the Niger delta
from a front view shows the pace to good looking due to the green pastures found in the area, but in

1.1 Introduction
Niger Delta is Located in Southeast of Nigeria and has a history of being one of the most fertile land
in Northern Nigeria. There is subsistence farming and fishing in this region that is mainly done by the
natives of this place, and is inhibited by 3000 communities that have settled there for a long time
doing farming as their major economic activities (Ikelegbe, 2013). The estimated population at the
Niger Delta is 27 million people, of this population, 75% of the population relies upon agricultural
activities for living. However, the water, air, forest and soil resources have been devastated because of
the exploration of gas and oil resources. The key issue and problem associated with the oil recourse
exploration is oil spills and gas flares.

Anastasia Romanov
Anastasia Romanov Throughout history, several different women have claimed to be Anastasia
Romanov. Anastasia one of the daughters of Czar Nicholas II. Amid the Russian Revolution, the
family was executed. It was rumored that Anastasia and her brother escaped. Anastasia, the famous
missing daughter of Czar Nicholas II was not represented by any character in the novel Animal Farm
because the Jones didn t have any children. Notably, as soldiers and protestors attacked their home in
1917, Nicholas abdicated his kingdom and he and his family were forced to live in the Ural Mountains
in exile. Once Lenin became the new Russian leader, the Romanovs were rudely awoken on the night
of July 17, 1918 and forced to the basement of their home. The family was met by a group of
executioners, who opened fire on Anastasia, her parents and siblings...and Anastasia s pet dog
(Anastasia Romanov Biography). After the family s murder, there were rumors that Anastasia and her
brother secretly had survived. But in 2007, DNA tests proved that the remains found belonged to
Anastasia and her brother, proving they were killed with the rest of their family (Anastasia Romanov

Jones is a mirror of Czar Nicholas II. Nevertheless, the novel only mentions Mr. Jones wife, nothing is
stated about any children. Mr. Jones...made his way up to bed, where Mrs. Jones was already snoring

Jones and running him off the farm, Mrs. Jones is the only other occupant of the house mentioned,
therefore it is assumed that the Jones do not have any children. Mrs. Jones looked out of the bedroom
window, saw what was happening, hurriedly flung a few possessions into a carpet bag, and slipped out
of the farm by another way (Orwell 13). If indeed there were children, one would hope that she would

Poverty And Homelessness In America
Being a first generation immigrant to the United States I have seen poverty and homelessness more
than the average american. I was born in the country of Macedonia, but i m ethnically Albanian. The
average wage for a worker without some type of post secondary education in Macedonia is about 200
euros a month. For those who have some type of secondary education the wages are slightly higher,
ranging from 300 to 800 euros a month. The majority of the population makes around $1.33 per hour.
This isn t a surprising fact considering the county s GDP of only 13 billion dollars. The majority of the
land is impoverished, and jobs are strongly segregated based on ethnicity. The ethnic Macedonians

minimum wage job here you are still making 5.45 times more money than the average person who
lives in macedonia. Another advantage is the fact th at the person is born here, they don t have to
move here to gain the economic opportunity like my grandfather. Poverty and homelessness in

One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest by Ken Kesey
The Contradiction Between Tyranny and Sanity
In the final scene of One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, Chief Bromden is the main character. The
characters that preform in this scene are Chief Bromden, McMurphy, and Nurse Ratched. Even though
McMurphy would be considered the main character of the novel, Bromden is the main character of
this scene because he shows the strongest desire. In this one scene, Bromden has many desires that to
him could be both life or death threatening.
Nurse Ratched makes one last attempt to gain back the control when she uses the same principle she
used earlier to ensure that the patients acceptance to her well being. She starts off with a lot of distrust
with the mental patients by making the financial gain public which McMurphy has enjoyed since his
transfer from the farms where someone is constantly defending McMurphy, this leads to pointing out
that McMurphy has more than repaid the patients with there financial losses and providing them with
the means to dodge nurse Ratched s terrible influence. McMurphy knows that nurse ratchet is cruel
and states, In one week, I can put a bug so far up her ass, she don t know whether to shit or wind her
wristwatch. This shows that McMurphy is ready for a fight and he is not afraid to tell nurse Ratched
what he thinks about her. This final scene shows us the contradiction between Tyranny and Sanity.
However, it is McMurphy s timing of the set up bet on the control panel that is proved

Character Analysis Of The Galileo Seven
The Galileo Seven is the sixteenth episode of the original series of Star Trek. The plot starts when the
USS Enterprise starship has a mission to deliver medical supplies to Makus III. A shuttlecraft, called
Galileo, is sent out to trace out the formation of four star systems. In that spaceship, a group of
research team includes Chief Medical Officer McCoy, Chief Engineer Scott, and four other specialists,
under the command of First Officer Spock. Nevertheless, soon after Galileo has launched, the
spacecraft is hit by the radiation. They are forced to make an emergency landing on Taurus II. There,

shuttlecraft and return to the Enterprise in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Spock tried to supply Scott with all necessary equipment to fix the spaceship.
Nonetheless, the situation itself is also significant to determine how favorable it is towards the leader.
From this perspective, it is necessary to classify the circumstances into two states, which are normal
situation and emergency situation. In normal environment, everybody carries out their typical, routine
duties concerning their roles. Spock and his subordinates has established good leader member
relationship, as they treated each other with respect. Furthermore, since the tasks are well structured,
everyone clearly understands what needs to be done and how to do it. Apart from that the chief s
position power is rather strong. Additionally, if the Five Bases of Power by French and Raven (1959)
is also taken into account, Spock claimed to have personal power of expertise and referent too. To
conclude the routine situational characteristics, good leader member relations, high task structure, and
strong position power lead to situation I (see figure 1), which effectively matches with Spock s task
oriented style (Jones George, 2012). In contrast, unusual circumstances include the crisis of
shuttlecraft accident and the charge from local tribes. Leader member relations are apparently poor.
Most of his decisions seemed to contradict with his subordinates opinions and common ethics, which
erode their trust and loyalty. Moreover, most crewmembers lacked

The Plight Of Minority Women
Make sure to elaborate on the victimization of the study
LITERATURE REVIEW
The Plight Of Minority Battered Women
The issues of domestic violence, focusing primarily on black ethnic minority women . To be able to
understand the problem of domestic violence, it is vital to recognize that violence toward women is an
international reality which has been recognized as a major public health issue (Shipway 2004).
According to Shipway 2004, the acknowledgment of domestic violence internationally as a major
public health has seen a readjustment in numbers in many areas that are dealing with domestic
violence, but there are still some areas where little if anything is done to support women abused by
intimate partners. The issues have increased where minority women have been lumped into one
category and not considering their different cultural and religious differences.
It has been said that obtaining data on African American minority women housing needs is hard.
(Netto et al., 2001) reported that there was national evidence that people from the black ethnic
minority with including immigrants find it very burdensome to access services.
Domestic violence influence women from all ethnic groups, African American women minority,
appeared to be isolated more that women from the majority.
According to Women s Aid 2010, there are claims that African American minority communities may
have to conquer religious and cultural pressure resulting in them being afraid of bringing shame onto

Benefits Of Same Sex Education
Is same sex education more beneficial? In 2006, only about four percent of the freshman class of
Chicago s Urban Prep Academy was able to read at grade level. But, in May of 2011, one hundred
percent of the senior class had been accepted to four year colleges/universities, many receiving full
scholarships. (Novotney, 2011) This was the first all male public charter high school in the United
States. The fact that this school was same sex education is the main factor that brought one hundred
percent of these seniors success. In today s society, there is usually no distinction between same sex
education and co education. However, there is a distinction. This distinction is that same sex education
is more beneficial to students. Society today does not realise this, even though there are many factors
that prove it. One main difference is that same sex schools are usually private schools while co
education schools are usually public schools. Parents in society today differentiate the schools by if
they would prefer to pay for the education (private same sex schools) versus not paying (co education
public schools). However, there is a difference. This difference is the fact that same sex education
schools are more beneficial for students. Despite this fact, the costs of private schools still prevent
parents from sending their children to these schools. Another issue that arises is that the decision of
sending your children to either same sex schools and co education schools

The Great Depression was the perfect breeding ground for fear and chaos. The United States was
drastically impacted, and no one could escape its wrath! The Great Depression not only affected the
nation s economy and way of life, but it also had a huge impression on people s beliefs and attitudes.
Life was a daily struggle, and Americans had to adapt and cope during hard times. People feared the
unknown and had to be very resourceful. A landmark trial made headlines because riding the rails
became a popular means of transportation.

Desperate times called for desperate measures! Over two million people went on the road to look for
work, and they became known as hobos. They wandered from town to town, and the fastest way to get
anywhere was to get on a train. Riding the rails became the transportation of choice because it was
free. However, it was illegal and very dangerous! Hobos would jump, leap, or hop onto a moving
freight train and take a ride for free in an open boxcar or on top. Every time a hobo jumped at a
moving train, he was taking his life into his hands (Morgan). Many lost their limbs or even their lives.
In addition, bulls, the railroad police, would beat or arrest hobos when they caught them riding the
rails or hanging around the yards. They were vicious! It is reported that over 50,000 either died or
were injured from 1929 1939 (Ganzel).
The hobo life was very difficult, and finding food and work was a daily struggle. Since they were
considered drifters or bums, they were not treated very nice. All they wanted was a better life. No
matter where they went, they could not escape the Great Depression. Since hobos had to catch a train
while it was moving, they waited on the outskirts of rail yards in what was known as jungles . They
were makeshift camps (Ganzel). Hobos even had their own code or symbols to help one another find
shelter, food and work (Morgan). Riding the rails became a popular way to travel and past time,

  • 2. Physical Activity Journal Analysis My physical activity journal is rather boring. The only real physical activity I do is walk to campus from my house. Since my house is somewhat far away, I walk for a decent amount of time. My total moderate intensity equivalent minutes for the week adds up to 485 minutes, all of this is walking around at about three miles per hour. I did not partake in any muscle strengthening days during the past week. I simply do not have enough time to go work out at the rec center, even though I would love to weight lift there. As I said before, I primarily walk everywhere I go. I work at Cambus, so I usually walk to campus and catch a bus to work from there. It helped boost my self esteem, along with making me feel more energized. I think these benefits derived from weight lifting would be a great improvement to my lifestyle, and it may lead me to greater self satisfaction. If I were to start lifting again, I would follow a similar training plan I learned in high school. It coordinates greatly to the concepts we learned in class. In regards to the fourth critical thinking question, the neighborhoods and communities around Iowa City offer a great atmosphere for physical activity. The University of Iowa offers students use of their recreation center and services. Iowa s campus also has many parks and green space allowing for people to play sports and run around. An educated person has the ability and drive to succeed no matter what social and economic background one has. Knowing the reason why being highly educated matters in life, and having a passion to learn. Similarly, to understand what is learned during the process of being educated, take the time to truly comprehend the facts, and the reasons behind the facts. Otherwise they might be forgotten and if so, are you still an educated person? Consider the following methods: the banking concept where facts are repeated to you and from that are memorized so you can repeat them back, and the problem posing concept where ideas are introduced and everyone learns from each other (Freire 144, 147). The ability and drive to succeed no matter what stands in your path, whether the problem is economical, social, or cultural, overcoming obstacles is a part of life that everyone does and each hurdle is a step closer to the end goal; the prize of being educated. Simply put, knowledge is power, where the highly educated oversee the less educated, and the non educated have little to no chance of being wealthy or respected (Spayde 66). According to Spayde, those unfortunate enough to not have the opportunity for a higher education are viewed as being limited to an in the streets education (69). • 4. The Odyssey, By Homer, And The Inferno Ulysses in Hell The two epics The Odyssey, by Homer, and The Inferno, by Dante, both works have two different perspectives of the character Ulysses. The Odyssey is told from the ancient Greek perspective around 700BC, and The Inferno is told from a Christian point of view in 1300AD. Both epics are written nearly 2000 years apart from each other. What set apart the ideals of both epics are the Pagan warrior perspective in Homer s epic and the Christian Europe perspective in Dante s epic. The controversial topic is what makes Ulysses a hero in The Odyssey and what makes him one of the world s greatest sinners in The Inferno? In The Odyssey, Odysseus or Ulysses, is considered a hero. Odysseus portrays all the qualities of a hero in this epic. He portrays courage, wisdom, and endurance throughout the work, which makes up the qualities of a Pagan warrior s idea of a hero. Zeus says Great Odysseus who excels all men in wisdom, excels in offerings too he gives the immortal gods who rule the vaulting skies? (Ody. 1.78 80). When speaking about Odysseus, he describes him as wise. Odysseus uses wisdom in the various obstacles he crosses on his journey home. Wisdom is all about knowing who you truly are and where you are going. This means denying temptation and not forgetting where you are going. On his journey home, he must turn down, possibly one of the greatest temptations, which is immortality. In hopes of keeping Odysseus with her, and not leaving to return home she says ... • 9. The Key Areas Separating Bosses From Leaders By examining the definitions of the words, you ll already be able to notice the intricacies at play. While at the outset the two words can seem rather similar and interchangeable, the closer examination highlights differences that give both roles a different meaning. So, what are the key areas separating bosses from leaders? The major differences between the two can be divided into six core areas of the focus, the driving force, the approach to work and objectives, the source of their authority, the communication and delegation style, and their accountability. The focus When it comes to an organisation, the key consideration is often the focus of the organisation. What is it for and why? The underlying focus is what drives an organisation, but also the individual to perform the required tasks. The focus gives direction and largely determines the approach to work. So, what is the focus for the two? For a boss the end objective is profit. A boss is in a role, which is about guaranteeing the organisation the best financial results that ll help guarantee the continuation of the business. That s behind the boss interest in supervising things getting done. The boss is not interested in how the subordinates get from Point A to Point B because the result is all that matters. Why Does Jane Austen Use Of The Gothic Explore How Austen Makes Use of the Gothic in the Novel Throughout Northanger Abbey Jane Austen uses gothic horror to describe main events that highly influence the outcome of the novel. The book bases its whole plot around gothic horror but it s not really a gothic horror but more of parody of a gothic horror. At the very start of the book (pages 3 4) Austen introduces the character of Catherine. She uses stereotypical characteristics from a normal Gothic Horror novel to somewhat tell the reader that Catherine is remarkably none of these things. As the reader this tells you Austen portrays her as a plain and unaccountable character with a very unremarkable life, not that of stereotypical heroine from a gothic horror novel. She tells ... This type of attitude was definitely prevccalent in the film Double Indemnity directed by Billy Wilder. This was because it was adapted from the novella by James Cain which held the same title. Substantial differences from the novella made the film a richer and better depicted story for the audience. It is agreeable that the nature of the adaption was made so that it would be easily understood by the audiences it was going to be viewed by. Unfortunately, for prose jammed with so many accusations, Gall s piece is surprisingly light on substantive sources. Belonging to the order of Isopoda, they belong to the Armadillidiidae family, and classified into the genus Armadillidium. A. vulgare are found in soil with a preference to moist environment (Holland 2014). This species see with ommatidia, smell using esthetascs, and touch with tactile setae to sense their environment (Holland 2014). A. vulgare are often found constantly moving around the edge of the Petri dish because the environment is unfamiliar and appears as an obstacle (Migita and Moriyama 2004). One observation of pill bug s movement is when they follow each other. Males can detect females through distance chemical communication (Beauché and Richard 2013). Plants can respond using any number of tropisms, which result in a plant organ moving toward or away from a stimulus. Almost all of these responses are under hormonal control. Thigomotropism, a response to touch, is a reaction plants make when pressure is put onto any part of the plant. An example of this could be as simple as an insect landing on the leaf of the plant, and the reaction to the stimulus would be the folding of the leaves. Other tropisms such as gravitropism and phototropism are responses to light and the forces of gravity. An example of how plants may respond to light or any other tropism can be explained through a signal transduction pathway. The plant detects light using a phytochrome, which can detect two types of red light. This part of the process is reception. In transduction Ca2+ channels are opened on the cell wall allowing for the movement of molecules into the cell activating a protein kinase, during this time a second messenger activates a second protein kinase. The protein kinases bind to transcription factors, which are then translated by the nucleus to respond to the light stimulus and activate a de etiolation response which in turn greens the plant, along with the greening responses plants will start to grow leaves for photosynthesis. This is just one response a plant may make to react to its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Music of Robert Schumann as a New Stage in the Development... Music of Robert Schumann as a New Stage in the Development of Romanticism Music of Robert Schumann embodies many of the most characteristic features of German Romanticism deep psychological insight, aspiration for the ideal, intimacy, irony and bitterness. Advanced aesthetic tendencies of German culture in the period of 1820 40s found vivid expression in his music. In contradictions, which are inherent in Schumann s music, reflected the complex contradictions of the social life from his time. His music is filled with a restless, rebellious spirit that puts him in the same line with Byron, Heine, Goethe, Wagner and others. However, the theme of rebellion in the music of Schumann has a psychological, but very lyrical representation. Compared to Heinrich Heine, Victor Hugo, and Ludwig Van Beethoven who viewed the world through the prism of social injustice, Schumann did not aim towards social revolt. The greatest part of his diverse heritage was his personal confession in music. Schumann s piano music, for instance, Kreisleriana, Op.16 and the Symphonic Etudes, op.13, are truly a musical encyclopedia of the human soul with many nuances and tones, with shades of colors of joy, sorrow, anguish, doubt and struggle, dreams and anxieties, rush, despair, faith and courage. E.T.A. Hoffmann in his writing Dichtungen und Schriften defined genius as a person who is able to touch us, to move us mightily, the artist himself must be deeply affected in his own heart. • 23. History And Perceptions Of American Sign Language Essay History and Perceptions of American Sign Language Sign language is one most common ways for deaf individuals to communicate without using of their voices. Different cultures and languages will typically have their own version of sign language so signs are not always universal, just like gestures are not universal. Signs are culturally bound in communication just like verbal languages and gestures are culturally bound. I will examine the history of American Sign Language, as well as how it has been viewed culturally with positive and negative social implications in the U.S. History of American Sign Language In order to fully understand the creation of American Sign Language (ASL), it must be understood that it is a form of communication. That means every sign has a meaning that is culturally bound just like languages in oral communication. That also means that the language has a distinctive origin. In fact, ASL carries several linguistic features that are similar to spoken languages (Rosen, 2008) such as the presence of homonyms and its constant evolution (Shaw Delaporte, 2011). The unique concept about ASL, though, is that it actually has very strong ties and connections with the French Sign Language, also known as LFS. This connection is explained by Delaporte Shaw (2009) and Shaw Delaporte (2011) as being due to how ASL was formalized in the U.S. by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet with the help of a deaf French professor named Laurent Clerc who used LSF. For example, Spock tried to supply Scott with all necessary equipment to fix the spaceship. Nonetheless, the situation itself is also significant to determine how favorable it is towards the leader. From this perspective, it is necessary to classify the circumstances into two states, which are normal situation and emergency situation. In normal environment, everybody carries out their typical, routine duties concerning their roles. Spock and his subordinates has established good leader member relationship, as they treated each other with respect. Furthermore, since the tasks are well structured, everyone clearly understands what needs to be done and how to do it. Apart from that the chief s position power is rather strong. Additionally, if the Five Bases of Power by French and Raven (1959) is also taken into account, Spock claimed to have personal power of expertise and referent too. To conclude the routine situational characteristics, good leader member relations, high task structure, and strong position power lead to situation I (see figure 1), which effectively matches with Spock s task oriented style (Jones George, 2012). The Plight Of Minority Women Make sure to elaborate on the victimization of the study LITERATURE REVIEW The Plight Of Minority Battered Women The issues of domestic violence, focusing primarily on black ethnic minority women . To be able to understand the problem of domestic violence, it is vital to recognize that violence toward women is an international reality which has been recognized as a major public health issue (Shipway 2004). According to Shipway 2004, the acknowledgment of domestic violence internationally as a major public health has seen a readjustment in numbers in many areas that are dealing with domestic violence, but there are still some areas where little if anything is done to support women abused by intimate partners. The issues have increased where minority women have been lumped into one category and not considering their different cultural and religious differences. It has been said that obtaining data on African American minority women housing needs is hard. (Netto et al., 2001) reported that there was national evidence that people from the black ethnic minority with including immigrants find it very burdensome to access services.
