The Theme Of Trust In A Child Called It By Dave Pelzer
Most people have trust of over people. In A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer, A boy who needs to
survive his mother abuse, Cinder by Marissa Meyer, A cyborg, Cinder, finds of that she s a lunar, a
person that can alter a person s brain.
Both A child called it and Cinder are similar because both the main characters are faced with weather
they trust them or not. In Cinder, Peony, Cinders step sister gets a disease that is lethal and goes to the
hospital, after that adri, Cinders step mother, sends Cinder to a research lab against her will so that it
might find a cure to the disease. Take her, Said Adri. Get her outta my sight. I didn t volunteer. You
can t take me against my will Adri shows that she dislikes Cinder and takes her ... Show more content

This shows in the middle of Cinder Adri trying to remind Cinder of her superiority by ordering her to
defrag their apartment s entire mainframe and update all the software that they didn t even use
anymore, while at the same time lurking around as if she were almost, kind of ashamed of what she d
have done to Cinder (Meyer 189) Adri lost cinders trust because she sent Cinder to the plague research
against her will(Meyer 67). Cinder changed her trust from someone s background an example is when
she find out that Dr. Erland is a Lunar and she doesn t trust him because he s a lunar. In A Child Called
It, when David s mother agreed to to be a good mother and David would forget about mothers
abuse(Pelzer 73) it was about how david could be accepted to the family, he trusted his mother
because he could have a better future without his mothers abuse. David also trusted his father for
example David thought his father could rescue him I made my way into the living room. Sitting on the
far end of the couch was my hero. I knew he would take care of Mother and drive me to the hospital.
David knew he could relay on his father but later in the book I no longer dreamed of Superman or
some imaginary hero who would come and rescue me. I knew that Father s promise to take me away
was a hoax. I gave up praying and thought only of living my life one day at a time. David no longer
trusted his father to save him. Both of the book have different reasonings of trust A Child Called It had
David who trusted people because they could give him a better future and Cinder had Cinder who

Essay Hydraulic Fracturing Must be Reformed
The multi billion dollar gas industry is seeking to expand its production across the nation, in light of
new technology making extracting natural gas much easier. A Healthy alternative to the fossil fuels we
so frivolously use is now more critical than ever. In 2011, the United States used 18.83 million barrels
of raw oil daily, and in 2010 19.18 million barrels of petroleum products and biofuels. In 2010 and
2011, that was nearly 22% of the world s oil supply. (U.S Department of Energy)
Previously inaccessible areas in the Marcellus Shale region of the United States, stretching from West
Virginia to New York, are being unearthed by a controversial method of extracting natural gas, called
hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. A Healthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her report used 24 case studies of shale gas regions in six states whose livestock have experienced a
wide range of neurological, reproductive, and gastrointestinal problems after exposure to chemicals
from fracking through water or air, accidentally or incidentally. (Bamberger, 194) The livestock death
toll is small when examined next to the nations livestock in a whole, but the study shows that this may
be a harbinger for the nations live food supply. In northern Pennsylvania, a livestock population was
examined where fracking wastewater was exposed to 140 cattle, around 70 cows died, and the cattle
that did survive, reproduced a slim number of 11 calves, and within those 11 calves, only three
survived. (Bamberger 195) This study was done on a small portion of the nations cattle supply when
examined, but empirical data suggests that if fracking is expanded, so will the negative health effects
of our food supply. Within the Marcellus Shale region in western Pennsylvania, fracking chemicals
were accidently released into a pasture where one farm had their pregnant cows graze. Directly
correlated to this, over 50% of their calves were born dead. Within this study, cattle farmers in West
Virginia, Texas, and Colorado, also reported deaths of their livestock via fracking chemicals.
(Bamberger 195) Michelle Bambergner isolated her study to Jacki Schilke s cattle farm in North
Dakota, in the center of the states growing

Teacher and Student Relationship
The teacher student relationship is very important for children. Children spend approximately 5 to 7
hours a day with a teacher for almost 10 months. We ask ourselves what is considered a good teacher?
All of us have gone through schooling, and if fortunate had a favorite teacher. A positive relationship
between the student and the teacher is difficult to establish, but can be found for both individuals at
either end. The qualities for a positive relationship can vary to set a learning experience approachable
and inviting the students to learn. A teacher and student who have the qualities of good
communications, respect in a classroom, and show interest in teaching from the point of view of the
teacher and learning from a student will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teachers understand that if this behavior continues in the classroom and if they do nothing to prevent
this from happening, the outcome proves to be disastrous for both types of participants. The student
will conclude that his or her behavior is permissible, and will draw away from learning, therefore it is
essentially important for the teacher to explain to the child the importance to learn. Though we
understand that learning cannot be forced. Learning becomes a process for an individual where he or
she feels comfortable with learning whether it s in a classroom or at home. Mike Rose explains in
Lives on the Boundary that It is what we are excited about that educates us (106). Rose s quote can be
applied to children at an early age, just as well as it can be applied to adults. Definitely children learn
when they enjoy learning, but also they need some control over the teacher (s) decisions. Authoritarian
control is often destructive to students who are in the primary grades, and eventually upper grades
teachers have difficulty dealing with children who were taught with an authoritarian teacher (Jones
215). Children in primary grades feel the urge to talk about their problems, fears, or even show their
knowledge, but at the same time they want to be listened too. The student will feel valued and
respected. Students feel flattered when the teacher eventually gives them the option of contributing,

August Wilson Black Power Movement
The Black Power Movement of the 1960s is the kiln in which I was fired, and has much to do with the
person I am today and the ideas and attitudes I carry as part of my consciousness August Wilson, The
Ground on Which I stand. August Wilson s plays cover the plight of black life and the central issues
facing African Americans over the course of the 20th century. As one of only seven dramatists to ever
win two Pulitzer Prizes; Wilson set out to, tell a history that has never been told. The critical success
of his plays proved not only that Americans had in interest in the untold history of African Americans
but that black theatre held promise and talent. While Wilson is best known for his playwriting, his

Animals In The Enigma Of Animal Suffering
In The Enigma of Animal Suffering, the author implies that animals may not be so different from
human beings in regards to feeing love and pain. The author mainly focuses on talking about farm
animals since those are the type that are mainly consumed. He uses analogies by comparing animals to
some delicate situations people actually experienced. For example, he compared cows being
inseminated to a person being sexually assaulted. These analogies are difficult to think about in a
different perspective, but it definitely makes you think. He highlights th way these farm animals are
treated before they are slaughtered and defends the fact that they have feelings as well. Because some
of us do not see them as our own or the way our priorities are when it comes up tp the business
industry, we ignore everything else. The way we treat animals in general not just ... Show more

Although, at times I would disagree with some of the ethical theories it includes, it definitely
strengthened my ability to think about any issue. It is easier for me to be more considerate of others
opinions regardless of what type of ethical theory they identified themselves with. Sometimes we don

topics a little more interesting especially when people would bring things up that I would never think

Evaluation of Various Numerical Methods for Option Pricing...
In finance, a derivative is a financial instrument whose value is derived from one or more underlying
assets. An option is a contract which gives the owner the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell the
asset at a specified strike price at the specified date. The derivative itself is just a contract between two
or more parties. Its value is determined by fluctuations in the value of the underlying asset. This price
is chosen so that the value of the contract to both sides is zero at the outset, which means that the price
is fair, so neither party is taking advantage of the other. Hence, numerical methods are needed for
pricing options in cases where analytic solutions are either unavailable or not easily computable. The
subject of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This method is widely used as it is able to handle a variety of conditions. Finite difference methods
were first applied to option pricing by Eduardo Schwartz in1977. In general, finite difference methods
are used to price options by approximating the differential equation that describes how the option
price moves over time by a set of difference equations. This method arises since the option value can
be modeled by partial differential equations, such as the Black Scholes PDE. This approach has the
same level of complexity tree methods. The application of Monte Carlo method to option pricing was
by Phelim Boyle in 1977. In terms of theory, Monte Carlo valuation relies on risk neutral valuation.
The technique is to generate several thousand possible random price paths for the underlying asset and
via simulation, and to calculate the average payoff of each path. This approach is particularly useful in
the valuation of options with complicated features, which would be difficult to value through
straightforward Black Scholes style or tree model. ( reference [3] Valuation of Options)
Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. The comparison of accuracy and
consistence are presented and suitable method for each situation is discussed.
Then the report briefly goes through some exotic options and implements the numerical solutions with
binomial tree method. These options, includes American option which can be exercised any time

What Is Crane s Use Of Naturalism
Naturalism is a very important philosophy in Crane s writing. Although humans have a tendency to
romanticize events in nature and in daily life that they perceive as great Crane tries to stay on the
naturalistic side of things.
Although Crane s writing is mostly naturalistic it contains some romanticism. This leads some people
to believe that Crane is a romantic writer. A quote from
RBOC chapter ** states . When analyzing this quote it shows a very romantic moment in the story
where Henry takes the flag and begins to rally the troops and encourage them. From there he leads the
troops into battle and because of this they win the battle. However, Crane inflates the importance of
this battle to the reader. In the grand scheme of things this battle affected literally nothing because of
their retreat. If the battle would have been as big of a deal as Crane described it then Henry s regiment
wouldn t have retreated in order to go to Gettysburg. In order to back this up a statement from the
short story The Veteran states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a quote from RBOC chapter ** it states . This quote demonstrates the most naturalistic view. Nature
doesn t care. Through the wars of man and hardship of all nature has always been there but not once
has it cared. Nature continues to do what it does even if there s constant battle around. Additionally,
nature will continue to thrive and prosper even at hard times for man. This is shown in a quote from
RBOC chapter ** which states . This quote is the pure demonstration of how nature doesn t care.
While Henry freaks out about running away from battle and about the dead man getting up and
chasing him there s ants crawl on the man s dead body. The ants crawling on the man s body is the
demonstration of how nature will not care about man or mankind s deeds. This view of nature is an
extremely naturalistic view. Crane s use of this is proof that he s a

Art Reflection Paper
When I visited the Tampa Museum of Art, I walked around looking at all of the beautiful artwork on
display. I chose a piece that stuck out to me and reminded me of the carnivals and fairs I went to
growing up in my hometown with family. Choosing just one piece to write about was a difficult
decision, but I chose to write about Carrousels by Don Jacot. This piece was created with oil on linen
in 1992 and is 50x72 . I believe the subject matter of this piece has to do with childhood and
memories. I noticed in this piece that there were not many people on the rides or around the picture at
all. This interested me, so I decided to look at other artworks he has created and most of the others are
empty as well. I feel this has something to do with him having an empty childhood, but still has the
memories of him going out. He also tends to lean more towards using the brighter primary colors such
as red, blue, and yellow. I figured he chose these because a child would be more fascinated in
something bright and colorful instead of dull and plain. One of the formal elements that stood out to
me the most was color. I chose this because color is such a big aspect in this piece of work. Blue, red,
and yellow are the most used in this work and are brightly intensified. The vibrant colors caught my
eye right away when I saw the picture. The second formal element that is shown in this picture is line.
I feel this element goes with the picture because there are many geometrical shapes and lines that
direct you to certain aspects. One of the main eye catching features is the Ferris wheel in the
background. The wheel catches the eye because all of the lines in the middle draw attention to it. The
tents on top of the rides in the back, the fence, and poles/bars on the ride are all very clean cut. Overall
the lines in the work lead your eye all around the composition of the piece. Another element that I
thought this picture has is shape. Shape is significant as well because the lines in the picture form
these figures. For example, the lines that are used on top of the ride tents form triangles, which lead
back to shape. This picture includes many geometrical forms all around the work such as the
rectangular benches, the

A Brief Look at Hamilton Howard Fish
I always had a desire to inflict pain on others and to have others inflict pain on me. I always seemed to
enjoy everything that hurt. How would you feel if a man with gray hair and looked like a ghost walked
up on you and made this statement? These are the evil words of man that was known as a serial killer.
Born May 19th of 1870 was a man by the name of Hamilton Howard Fish. Fish the youngest of four
children was born to a young mother and a father by the name of Randall. Fish s father whom was a
boat captain that operated on a boat by the name of Potomac River also suffered from a type of mania.
Hamilton s father at the age of only 80 years old died of a heart attack. This is where the life of
Hamilton Howard Fish began. Not being able to care for herself and a young child after Fish s dad
passed away, Hamilton found himself left at an orphanage in Washington by the name of Saint John s.
At this orphanage Hamilton found himself being beat while naked for punishment for doing bad
things. This is where his life started to drown and he started to develop feelings of sadomasochism and
would also have or get erections and even pleasure from the beatings that he was receiving for his
punishments. Which this lead to other boys making fun of him as well as bullying him even more than
before. At this time in his life, Fish began to run away from the orphanage as well as wetting the bed
that he slept in. With bed wetting being normal, no one looked for any signs of him to go

Gestational Trophoblastic Disease Green. Blue. Purple. Orange. Yellow. Red. Pink. Teal. Peach. Gray.
What do all these colors have in common? Each color symbolizes the ribbons our nation proudly uses

worker, significant other, and/or neighbor who suffer from some form of cancer. Many different
varieties of cancers are widely known; however, cases show that Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases
are extremely rare but potentially dangerous forms of uterine cancer that can affect pregnant woman
during the beginning stages throughout fertilization (Gestational Trophoblastic Disease, 2012). There
are two forms of the Gestational Trophoblastic Disease, Hydatidiform mole is a non cancerous form,
where a fetus may or may not develop. Out of all the types of uterine cancers presently known,
Hydatidiform Mole¬¬ commonly known as a molar pregnancy affects one out of every 1,000
pregnancies (Hydatidiform Mole, 2012). Choriocarcinoma is the cancerous form and is even less
common by affecting roughly two to seven pregnancies out of 100,000 in the United States. In
addition, choriocarcinoma molar pregnancies are more common in Mexico, Southeast Asia, the
Philippines, and African countries. Furthermore, Caucasian women in the Unites States are at higher
risk than African American Women. Consequently, women over the age of 40 or women who have had

Persuasive Essay On Land Value Tax
Taxes have always been a contentious subject in any political discourse. Tax rates, methods of
taxation, and other such details are constantly debated and reshaped in order to generate the most
revenue and best serve the public. It is the responsibility of the government to pass fair taxes on its
citizens that provide optimum efficiency as well as tangible benefits to the welfare of its citizens. One
crucial reform to taxation that is being proposed is the Land Value Tax(LVT) which will have
compounding benefits to the country it is implemented in. A LVT is a tax levied on the unimproved
value of land as opposed to property taxes which take into account the value of the property on the
land itself. The idea of LVT originated all the way back to the 18th century and it has seen successful
modern application in countries like Australia, Hong Kong and Estonia and even the U.S. state
Pennsylvania. Land Value Tax must be implemented in the United States because the LVT encourages
economic decision making, it is a progressive tax that benefits the poor in society while combating
harmful speculation and it is more efficient than its counterpart, property taxes. Financial risk is the
foundation of any economic decision and often more risk results in a greater reward. One of the main
arguments in favor of Land Value Taxes is that they will incentivize home improvement and property
buildup which are economically risky decisions. The reason for this is that in the status quo, property
taxes increase when a property is improved or built upon which discourages people from making said
decisions. According to Amanda Hurley from The Architect magazine, Economists believe that LVT is
superior to a property tax because the latter disincentivizes owners from improving a property, while
the former might encourage them to make the highest and best use of their land (Hurley 2017). In
simple terms, deciding to build upon or improve property has no negative effects to the owners of said
property. This will provide an increase in the development of properties and previously abandoned lots
wherever the LVT is extolled. Development is an invaluable barometer for the economic prosperity of
a city because if more people decide to

Comparing Love In The Canterbury Tales
Love in The Knight s Tale, Wife of Bath s Tale, and Franklin s Tale
The Canterbury Tales, written by Geoffrey Chaucer around 1386, is a
collection of tales told by pilgrims on a religious pilgrimage. Three of these
tales; The Knight s Tale , The Wife of Bath s Tale , and The Franklin s Tale ,
involve different kinds of love and different love relationships. Some of the
loves are based on nobility, some are forced and some are based on mutual
respect for each partner. My idea of love is one that combines aspects from each
of the tales told in The Canterbury Tales.
In The Knights Tale , the love between the two knights and Emily is
intensely powerful. The love that Palomon and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

woman to avoid death. The knight and the old woman do not get along well, and
when the old woman suggests that she can make things better, the knight responds

between the two partners, here their is no attraction. Two people cannot love

Essay on Reverse Discrimination and Affirmative Action
Reverse Discrimination and Affirmative Action
Discrimination in employment has been an issue that has plagued our society throughout history. At
the turn of this century it was acceptable to advertise job openings and specifically state that people of
a certain race, color, religion, gender, or national origin need not apply . A lot has changed over the
last 100 years. The proverbial pendulum has swung in the direction of federal protection of certain
people, but the problem now is that it has swung too far.
Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act states that it is unlawful for an employer to fail or refuse to hire

significant inequities that can be justified only by compelling state interests. (Chang 1)
This case dealt with layoff procedures in a public school system during the height of affirmative
action. An important aspect of this case was that there had been prior racial discrimination lawsuits
litigated in 1976 and again in 1979, Jackson Education Assn. v. Board of Education (Jackson I and
Jackson II, respectively). The Board of Education relied upon these cases as proof of past misconduct

minority faculty members (some of whom were still classified in a probationary status) were retained
in order to fulfill remedial requirements. The court found that this policy was in violation of the Equal

Research Paper On Positivism
Positivism essay
At the end of Nick Heather s (1976) chapter on Positivism and psychology he asks three questions
about positivism. In the following essay I am going to explore positivism as well as the attraction of
positivism. I will also look at why human beings are being described for scientific purposes as if they
were things as well as the educational implications of this. Lastly I will look at the benefits of
positivism.
Heather(1976, p12) states that positivism is a position in epistemology. Positivism is based on
empiricism which means that all knowledge or ideas are based on sense experience(Phillips, 2000).
There are two types of positivism. The first type is classical positivism which was developed by
philosopher Auguste ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Positivists believed in the unity of the sciences which includes the natural sciences and the social
science(Hahn, Carnap Neurath, 2001). This unity of science involved the notion that everything on
earth including people could be empirically studied (Hahn et al, 2001). I reiterate that positivism
benefits all those who want to take control of those around them. As mentioned before reinforcement
was seen as a way of controlling and any person who wanted control could use reinforcement as a
method (Skinner, 1968). Reinforcement also allowed you to predict certain behaviours (Skinner,
1968). An example of this could be seen by the elite group for example teachers. It allowed teachers to
be in control and allows teachers to predict that if you use reinforcement in your classroom then you
are guaranteed to get the correct behaviour you want(Skinner, 1968). A teacher may give a child a

How can I go that extra mile? What can I do to motivate at one person to get up and delibrately work

Essay about In Defense of Direct Perception
In Defense of Direct Perception
ABSTRACT: My goal in this paper is to defend the claim that one can directly perceive an object
without possessing any descriptive beliefs about this object. My strategy in defending this claim is to
rebut three arguments that attack my view of direct perception. According to these arguments, the
notion of direct perception as I construe it is objectionable since: (1) it is epistemically worthless since
it leaves perceived objects uninterpreted; (2) it cannot explain how perceived objects are identified;
and (3) it is ill prepared to assign objective content to perceptual states. What is involved in the claim
that one directly perceives an object? The notion of direct perception that I propose to ... Show more

Clearly, this is a form of what many people would call indirect perception. It includes such cases as
perceiving something on the basis of, or by means of, perceiving something else. And, I submit, if this
is what it means for a belief to mediate one s perception of an object, it follows that there are, in fact,
such things as direct perceptions, and that the object of a direct perception is an undescribed object.
For, to begin with, any chain of inferences has to start somewhere; and, eventually, there has to be a
belief, state of mind, or state of the world, of which one is aware, without one s having been aware of
some other belief, state of mind, or state of the world beforehand. Such a belief, state of mind, or state
of the world is directly, that is, noninferentially, perceived. Furthermore, suppose that the object of a
direct (noninferential) perception is a described object. Since, once again, any description of an object
is expressed as a belief, and since we are assuming here that the way for a belief to mediate one s
perception of an object is by means of an inference, this means that the belief expressing the
description is playing an inferential role in perceiving the object which contradicts our assumption that
the object of perception is uninferred. And so, by reductio, the object of a direct

The Question Of Origin Of Life
The Question of Origin Life began when Allah created every living thing from water (The Koran
21:30). Allah then created the universe in six days (The Koran 25:59). These six days can be
interpreted as six distinct periods or eons (Doge 143). The reason the six days can be interpreted is
because of the word youm. Youm is understood as a long period of time, an era or eon. (Dodge 143).
Allah created the universe and the physical earth in two days, and then used the next four days to
populate it with life (Dodge 143). Once he had created everything Allah established Himself on the
Throne, to oversee all of creation (Dodge 144). Unlike the gods of Christianity and Judaism Allah
does not require rest (The Koran 50:38). Allah also created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Qur an has several different answers pertaining to mankind s creation. The answers given are a
blood clot (surah 96:1 2), water (surah 21:30), burned clay (surah 15:26), dust (surah 3:59), nothing
(surah 19:67), earth (surah 11:61), or a drop of thick fluid (surahs 16:4, 75:37) (Caner 92). With all
these differences, there is only one similarity between the biblical worldview and the Islamic
worldview concerning creation. Both worldviews believe in a transcendent creator. It is almost
impossible to give an understanding of origin because the origin of life is not considered important to
most Muslims. This quandary supports evidence that Allah is not a personal God. He doesn t care if
his followers understand their origin, instead he places their very salvation in their own hands. Out of
the one hundred and two names Allah goes by not one of them is considered an intimate name (Caner
117). In contrast the Bible consistently refers to God as our father, thus presenting a more intimate
creator. (Word count 519)
The Question of Identity To be human is to be honored above creatures of the earth and sea (The
Koran 17:70). Allah also gave man the ability to discern good from evil and freewill (Baianonie). Not
only are humans able to discern right from wrong we have the potential to learn and acquire
knowledge... (Bainanonie). With these abilities given by Allah this means we are responsible and
accountable for everything given (Baianonie). Also, apart of being

Western European Religion Research Paper
For my essay, I chose to answer the question: Would you say the Western European
Christians in the early 16th century saw religion as a significant part of their lives? Why or why
not? This almost seems like a trick question to me as I feel, yes religion played a significant role in
their lives, but no I don t think they respected it as God intended. If you use money and political
status as a loophole in the system, is Christianity that important to you?
Through my readings and observations, I ve gathered that the central goal of many
Christians is to be free and clean of sins and accepted by God. Being taken in by God is ALL that
matters and they will absolutely do whatever is necessary to be certain this happens. Yes, I know ...

In 1517, a Dominican man named Tetzel was selling indulgences. He had people convinced
that if they paid for this piece of paper called an indulgence they would be pardoned of their

community. After the devastating damage the Black Death caused, Tetzel and his indulgences
came in at a prime time when people were most vulnerable. People witnessing their friends and
family dying left and right, everyone was in a panic because they needed to cleanse their soul as

advantage of the faith of the Christian people, I don t think that s the case. The people buying
these indulgences took the easy was out in my opinion. As far as I know, nowhere in the bible

The United Kingdom Needs And The Clear Separation Of Powers
One of the three main theories that work as basis of the organisation of the United Kingdom is the
Doctrine of separation of powers, such as Parliament sovereignty and the rule of law. This essay is
going to critically discuss whether the United Kingdom needs and have the clear separation of powers.
There are three important powers that work as instruments for organisation of any state and are carried
by Governments. This can be stated, There are three elements in each constitution... first, the
deliberative, which discusses everything of common importance; second the officials; and third, the
judicial element. said Aristotle , the founder of theory of the doctrine. Contemporary those powers are
called as the legislature, the executive and the judiciary.
The Legislature power is a power that makes law for regulation of peoples and private organisations
conduct, also structure and power of public authorities which is ran by the Parliament. This includes
bodies such as House of Lords, House of Commons and the Queen. The Executive power is the
administrative branch of government that implements the law, which are made by legislators. Bodies
that regulate this are the Queen, Prime Minister, other Ministers, Civil service, police and armed
forces. Introduction of the legislation, controlling security and public services, supporting prosperity
and conducting the external relation of the state are the roles of the executive power. The Judiciary is

in a house full of drugs and violence. Both of his parents were addicts and both had been incarcerated
for crimes they had previously committed. Brandon s father, Billy McInerney, would constantly shift
from smoking crystal meth in one instance to beating his boys in the next. If his kids misbehaved he
would beat them and if he had a bad day he would use his kids as punching bags. James Bing,
Brandon s half brother, says that he would physically abuse us in any possible way that you could

Property Creates Human Greed By Rousseau s State Of Nature
Property creates human greed. As soon as one man realized that it was useful for a single individual to
have provisions for two, equality disappeared, property came into existence, labor became necessary
demonstrates that men will subjugate and deprive others in order to act in self interest (74). Once the
strong came to understand the pleasure of accumulating more than is necessary for survival, they
thought of nothing but the subjugation and enslavement of their neighbors, like those ravenous wolves
that on having once tasted human flesh, reject all other food and desire to devour only men (78). This
inequality is illegitimate in divine abode of Rousseau s state of nature, but property develops
constructed legitimacy since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because force is always illegitimate, property maintained through force is always illegitimate as well.
The illegitimacy of force is demonstrated by Rousseau s stinging condemnation of the sultan who
rules through force. The sultan s rule is illegitimate, but those who overthrow the sultan with force are
equally illegitimate. Rousseau explains that the uprising that ends in the strangulation or the
dethronement of the sultan is as lawful an act as those by which he disposed of the lives and goods of
his subjects the day before. Force alone maintained him, force alone brings him down (90). Property
can only be seized through force, which is always illegitimate, regardless of the current proprietor s
illegitimate claim to the land. In both Marx s depiction of society and Rousseau s, humans have
developed through a succession of stages to act in self interest, oppressing other humans for the sake
of material gain. They agree that property is a human construction created by the strong to solidify
social status and sustained through illegitimate legal and economic systems. For both philosophers,
illegitimate property leads to labor becoming deeply dehumanizing. The craving to own illegitimate
property comes from human greed, appetites, and socialization. On the surface, Marx and Engel s
theory is compatible with Rousseau s. The philosophies, however, have many significant differences.

Limitations Of Lactase Intestinations
The limitations that are necessary to be taken into consideration are the errors associated with the
above research attaining methodologies. Using a lactose tolerance test the arbitrary cut offs are
difficult when taking into consideration borderline values. The impact of certain cut offs would
eliminate or include participant values that could impact on the big picture of the results. For breath
hydrogen analysis and lactose tolerance test, another error is the likelihood of false positives and false
negatives. Most commonly is found in studies is that breath hydrogen reveals the most accurate results
(Mulcare, C. A., et al, 2004). The other errors come from the human participants themselves, which is

Consideration would then be required of the types of pastoralism within the population is currently
practiced and the relationship that holds with the practices in the past. A specific understanding of the
types of milk that was consumed whether lactose rich forms was ingested first or bacteria converted
dairy products resulting in lower lactose containing foods. The Khoe and the San represent the current
day populations reflective of their original ancestors of the same area (Breton, G., et al, 2014). The
ancestors of the Khoe San populations of Southern African region likely diverged at a minimum of
100 thousand years ago from all human ancestors (11 Breton, G., et al, 2014).
Assuming the data could be collected for the Khoe population, the hypothesis being tested through
further evaluation whether the recorded lactase persistence is realistic given the subsistence behaviour
of the current population. This would require archaeological evidence for the pastoralist population by
the original ancestors of the area. The introduction of pastoralism to southern areas of Africa is widely
debated. It has been accepted the pastoralism spread from North to East Africa and then to Southern
African. There are a few pre existing hypotheses attempting to explain the occurrence of pastoralism
(Breton, G., et al, 2014). One is called the demic diffusion model which suggests the ancestors of the
Khoe originated from an East African or external population that migrated

Capital Punishment Is A Cruel And Unusual Punishment
Capital punishment is defined as the legally authorized killing of someone as punishment for a crime.
There are many arguments that are for and against the death penalty. Majority of these arguments
contain broad categories ranging from morality to attorney quality. Although most would support that
capital punishment is the closest penalty for murder it is still used unequally across the prison
populations. Capital punishment is a practice that the judicial system should abolish for the future
generations.
The death penalty is unconstitutional and violates numerous amendments. Capital punishment violates
the 5th amendment because it violates the due process clause by denying the opportunity for
exoneration. Since the process of an execution can immobilize a person from being able to speak if
they are in pain it is viewed that the death penalty is a cruel and unusual punishment which violates
the 8th amendment. The violation of the 8th amendment also applies to juveniles and mentally
retarded criminals because they do not have the capacity to understand that the crime they committed
was a societal wrong. Statistically, the amount of people who are convicted are generally from the
same societal class. Due to this evidence, it was decided that the death penalty violates the 14th
amendment because those who cannot afford adequate lawyers are not represented equally under the
law.
Many would suggest that capital punishment is an effective deterrence when in reality it has

The Flaws In The Movie Kingdom Of Heaven
The movie Kingdom of Heaven is a very good movie. It is biased off of the crusades more specifically
the second crusade. However, no matter how good any movie is there is always flaws, this one is no
different. The amount of flaws I am able to choose from is tremendous. I have categorized them into
three main topics. First I will be talking about the false things that have to do with Balian himself.
Next will be the weapons them self s and how they fire/are used and outcomes of them. Last I will
state many of the other false tings in the movie and back up why they are false. In the movie there are
many incorrect elements about Balian and surrounding Balian. One of the larger issues I can see is that
he is not from France. As Helena P. Schrader says Balian was born in the crusader Kingdom of
Jerusalem. The movie started out with a scene of Balian burying his dead wife. Several men ride by on
horses and one says She was a suicide cut her head off... but she really never committed suicide.

Common Representations Of Nordic Culture
Common Representations of Nordic Culture and Surrounding Ideologies Through Linguistic Features
in Recent Animated Films In many animated films, accents are used to demonize villains, set
characters apart from the group, highlight strangeness, or add to the setting of the film. Then why is
that a more standard American accent used for main characters as apposed to the Nordic or pseudo
Nordic accents of the supporting roles? In this paper, we will look at the ways in which Scandinavians
are portrayed in Disney s Frozen and DreamWorks How to Train Your Dragon franchise by comparing
the traits of those with accents to those without. Across American animated media representations of
Nordic culture, the protagonist and their friends speak with a standard American accent. For example,
in the How to Train Your Dragon films, Hiccup and his friends are portrayed with out a heavy accent,
which stands in strong relief to the voicing of other characters such as Stoick and Gobber. Hiccup,
voiced by Jay Baruchel, is made to stand out from the other Vikings as well as to be made more
relatable to the films predominately American audience. The use of accented voicing for characters
such as Stoick and Gobber, voiced by Gerard Butler and Craig Freguson, respectively, is likely
intended mainly to create the atmosphere for the film but also indexes them as hyper masculine
Vikings. The movie opens with an intro narrated by the main character, Hiccup. Here he sets the scene

Essay On Haste And Immature In Romeo And Juliet
As a late father, author, experienced polymath, brilliant inventor and politician Benjamin Franklin
often informed people to take time for all things: great haste makes great waste. Being one of the
founding fathers of the United States, Franklin declared that haste will lead to missed opportunities
and chaos. He also indicated that you should take time to think of every outcome, that may include
thinking about other people s fate or just your own. The adults and the young adolescents in this play

Juliet is willing to die for him regardless of the place or how they met; even though Juliet did not get

in children and while there are many more prime examples of it, there are also excessive amounts to
do with adult haste and immaturity. Although parents or adults will not admit it to the younger
audience, they can be immature and hasty. There are no rules about how to act and everyone makes
mistakes, as it is natural to want to rush into things and do their job accurately even if they do not have
experience in that field. Juliet s father, Capulet is one of the several victims of haste and immaturity.

Fear Of Vaccine Essay
In modern times with the rapid pace of vaccine development in recent decades, the historic origins of
immunization are often forgotten, leading people to underestimate the severity of the harm that
vaccinations prevent. The resistance to vaccinations is a well known occurrence, due to the positive
effects vaccinations have had we forget the tragic consequences of the past s fearsome infectious
disease such as smallpox. Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it, George
Santayana. Studying history is necessary to avoid repeating past mistakes. Despite overwhelming
evidence supporting the safety and benefits of vaccination, this fear has proven resistant to
information. Parents are increasingly questioning the safety of and need for vaccines as a result,
vaccination rates have fallen to dangerously low levels in certain communities. Recent outbreaks of
vaccine preventable diseases in the United States have drawn attention to this epidemic. While vaccine
acceptance remains high in general, fear of vaccines has grown dramatically in many developed
countries. In some communities, this fear has led to significantly increased rates of vaccine refusal
which are associated with increases in illness and death from vaccine preventable diseases. Given the
risk to the public health these perceptions produce, and consistent with well established legal

Young Girl Named Scout By Harper Lee
In the past, it has been evident that the population of the Southern states had been composed of many
different social classes, particularly in the 1930s. In her novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee
clearly depicts these social classes and illustrates how diverse they make the population of Maycomb,
a fictional town where the story takes place. The main character, a young girl named Scout, does not
fully understand the concept of these different social classes and often fails to recognize which one she
belongs to. As the story progresses, it becomes known to the reader that Scout is part of the highest
social class in Maycomb. However, because of the conditions she is raised in, she does not fit in with a
certain group of women that this class is mainly composed of: the Southern belles. Throughout the
story, it is evident that some Maycomb women possess the traits of a Southern Belle persona, such as
while Scout does not, due to the fact that she grows up without a mother.
The term Southern belle refers to a wealthy but well mannered young woman, often characterized by
her chaste demeanor and submissive attitude, who tries to reach perfection in almost every aspect of
her life. Some of the most important elements to being a Southern belle include grace, manners,
breeding, etiquette, and demure behavior. A Southern belle should always be polite and gentle to the
people around her and have the capability to make them feel at ease with her friendliness and
composure.

A Study On Arranged Marriages
Jessica Tovar
Professor Berger
Research Paper Core 7
Arranged Marriages Cultures and countries around the world have differing views on many topics
such as whether or not babies should be baptized, vaccinations, abortion and marriages. One topic that
has been of controversy and is viewed differently in many countries is marriage and whether or not
arranged marriages are better than love marriages. There are several different reasons why people in
India believe that arranged marriages are the best; likewise, people in Western countries such as the
United States believe that love marriages are best. Most westerners have a misconception on arranged
marriages. An arranged marriage is a marital union where the groom and the bride are chosen by a
third party, such as a mother, father, grandfather or grandmother. Most often confused with a forced
marriage, which is where the bride and groom are chosen by a third party and are forced to marry each
other or suffer the consequences. In western countries, marriages are considered love marriages where
the bride and groom select each other and decide to get married based on their love and affection for
one another. Even though arranged marriages and love marriages greatly differ from one another and
each has advantages and disadvantages, neither one is better than the other in the long run. The
primary difference between a love marriage and an arranged marriage is the person who selects the
spouse. In an arranged marriage, parents

The Effects Of Digital Etiquette In The Digital Age
Digital etiquette is a modern variation of the old adage treat others the way you want to be treated
(Behrens, n.d.) . This is an important yet difficult lesson to teach children in the digital age because
they spend less time participating in face to face encounters and more time behind a screen. In fact
children ages 8 18 spend approximately 7.5 hours using technology and social media (New Research,
2014). What makes this lesson so difficult is the fact that because children spend so much time behind
a screen interacting with people, they spend less time reading people s emotions and seeing how their
words affect other people. In fact, many adults struggle to come to this realization as well. Based on
my own personal experience on social media, many adults still react to situations they come across
online emotionally and do not necessarily think about what they are posting and how their words
affect the people that are reading them. This is evident with the amount of arguments that occur
mostly in the comment section on social media. In fact, social media is an excellent source of poor
digital etiquette with all of the fights, swearing, and belittling of others that occurs on these platforms
(Digital Etiquette, 2008). This is largely because of the misinterpretations that can happen when
communicating digitally verses communicating face to face. It is difficult to interpret the context from
which someone is speaking. It is essential that adults slow down with their

The Blithedale Romance And The House Of The Seven Gables
The literary genre of Romanticism was popular throughout the nineteenth century. Romanticism
consists of six main characteristics; the individual, intuition, imagination, nature, emotions, and the
unknown. Each Romantic author portrayed their view of the genre in their novels; each one in a
slightly different manner. The authors each have a different emphasis on the characteristics depending
on the plot of their novels. Nathaniel Hawthorne s prefaces to The Blithedale Romance and The House
of the Seven Gables and his short tale The Custom House incorporate the Romantic ideals of intuition,
nature, and imagination. These three Romantic traits are prevalent and key throughout Hawthorne s
first novel, The Scarlet Letter, as Hawthorne uses them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nature plays an important role in society, the writing of Romantic novels, and in the plot of
Hawthorne s tales. Hawthorne shows the importance of nature, as a whole, to Romanticism by
describing the context of the scenery; he would, be glad, therefore, if especially in the quarter to which
he alludes the book may be read strictly as a Romance, having a great deal more to do with the clouds
overhead than with any portion of the actual soil of the County of Essex. In describing the
preponderance of nature to the plot of The House of the Seven Gables, Hawthorne demonstrates the
necessity of nature to Romanticism. In The Scarlet Letter nature also plays an important role. Arthur
Dimmesdale and Hester Prynne commit their passionate sin whilst surrounded by nature in the forest
on the outskirts of town. The two paramours are also reunited here after seven years apart. Pearl, the
creation of their passionate sin, is portrayed as being the most comfortable whilst surrounded by
nature. She is calm and at peace in nature. In contrast, when Pearl is in the Puritan society, she is
prickly and distrusting of those around her. Peal characterises the Romantic fascination with natural

  • 2. The Theme Of Trust In A Child Called It By Dave Pelzer Most people have trust of over people. In A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer, A boy who needs to survive his mother abuse, Cinder by Marissa Meyer, A cyborg, Cinder, finds of that she s a lunar, a person that can alter a person s brain. Both A child called it and Cinder are similar because both the main characters are faced with weather they trust them or not. In Cinder, Peony, Cinders step sister gets a disease that is lethal and goes to the hospital, after that adri, Cinders step mother, sends Cinder to a research lab against her will so that it might find a cure to the disease. Take her, Said Adri. Get her outta my sight. I didn t volunteer. You can t take me against my will Adri shows that she dislikes Cinder and takes her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows in the middle of Cinder Adri trying to remind Cinder of her superiority by ordering her to defrag their apartment s entire mainframe and update all the software that they didn t even use anymore, while at the same time lurking around as if she were almost, kind of ashamed of what she d have done to Cinder (Meyer 189) Adri lost cinders trust because she sent Cinder to the plague research against her will(Meyer 67). Cinder changed her trust from someone s background an example is when she find out that Dr. Erland is a Lunar and she doesn t trust him because he s a lunar. In A Child Called It, when David s mother agreed to to be a good mother and David would forget about mothers abuse(Pelzer 73) it was about how david could be accepted to the family, he trusted his mother because he could have a better future without his mothers abuse. David also trusted his father for example David thought his father could rescue him I made my way into the living room. Sitting on the far end of the couch was my hero. I knew he would take care of Mother and drive me to the hospital. David knew he could relay on his father but later in the book I no longer dreamed of Superman or some imaginary hero who would come and rescue me. I knew that Father s promise to take me away was a hoax. I gave up praying and thought only of living my life one day at a time. David no longer trusted his father to save him. Essay Hydraulic Fracturing Must be Reformed The multi billion dollar gas industry is seeking to expand its production across the nation, in light of new technology making extracting natural gas much easier. A Healthy alternative to the fossil fuels we so frivolously use is now more critical than ever. In 2011, the United States used 18.83 million barrels of raw oil daily, and in 2010 19.18 million barrels of petroleum products and biofuels. In 2010 and 2011, that was nearly 22% of the world s oil supply. In northern Pennsylvania, a livestock population was examined where fracking wastewater was exposed to 140 cattle, around 70 cows died, and the cattle that did survive, reproduced a slim number of 11 calves, and within those 11 calves, only three survived. Within the Marcellus Shale region in western Pennsylvania, fracking chemicals were accidently released into a pasture where one farm had their pregnant cows graze. Directly correlated to this, over 50% of their calves were born dead. We ask ourselves what is considered a good teacher? All of us have gone through schooling, and if fortunate had a favorite teacher. A positive relationship between the student and the teacher is difficult to establish, but can be found for both individuals at either end. Teachers understand that if this behavior continues in the classroom and if they do nothing to prevent this from happening, the outcome proves to be disastrous for both types of participants. The student will conclude that his or her behavior is permissible, and will draw away from learning, therefore it is essentially important for the teacher to explain to the child the importance to learn. Though we understand that learning cannot be forced. Learning becomes a process for an individual where he or she feels comfortable with learning whether it s in a classroom or at home. Mike Rose explains in Lives on the Boundary that It is what we are excited about that educates us (106). Rose s quote can be applied to children at an early age, just as well as it can be applied to adults. Definitely children learn when they enjoy learning, but also they need some control over the teacher (s) decisions. Authoritarian control is often destructive to students who are in the primary grades, and eventually upper grades teachers have difficulty dealing with children who were taught with an authoritarian teacher (Jones 215). Children in primary grades feel the urge to talk about their problems, fears, or even show their knowledge, but at the same time they want to be listened too. • 7. Evaluation of Various Numerical Methods for Option Pricing... In finance, a derivative is a financial instrument whose value is derived from one or more underlying assets. An option is a contract which gives the owner the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell the asset at a specified strike price at the specified date. The derivative itself is just a contract between two or more parties. Its value is determined by fluctuations in the value of the underlying asset. This price is chosen so that the value of the contract to both sides is zero at the outset, which means that the price is fair, so neither party is taking advantage of the other. Hence, numerical methods are needed for pricing options in cases where analytic solutions are either unavailable or not easily computable. The subject of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This method is widely used as it is able to handle a variety of conditions. Finite difference methods were first applied to option pricing by Eduardo Schwartz in1977. In general, finite difference methods are used to price options by approximating the differential equation that describes how the option price moves over time by a set of difference equations. This method arises since the option value can be modeled by partial differential equations, such as the Black Scholes PDE. This approach has the same level of complexity tree methods. The application of Monte Carlo method to option pricing was by Phelim Boyle in 1977. In terms of theory, Monte Carlo valuation relies on risk neutral valuation. The technique is to generate several thousand possible random price paths for the underlying asset and via simulation, and to calculate the average payoff of each path. This approach is particularly useful in the valuation of options with complicated features, which would be difficult to value through straightforward Black Scholes style or tree model. Although humans have a tendency to romanticize events in nature and in daily life that they perceive as great Crane tries to stay on the naturalistic side of things. When analyzing this quote it shows a very romantic moment in the story where Henry takes the flag and begins to rally the troops and encourage them. From there he leads the troops into battle and because of this they win the battle. However, Crane inflates the importance of this battle to the reader. In the grand scheme of things this battle affected literally nothing because of their retreat. I chose a piece that stuck out to me and reminded me of the carnivals and fairs I went to growing up in my hometown with family. Choosing just one piece to write about was a difficult decision, but I chose to write about Carrousels by Don Jacot. This piece was created with oil on linen in 1992 and is 50x72 . I believe the subject matter of this piece has to do with childhood and memories. I noticed in this piece that there were not many people on the rides or around the picture at all. This interested me, so I decided to look at other artworks he has created and most of the others are empty as well. I feel this has something to do with him having an empty childhood, but still has the memories of him going out. He also tends to lean more towards using the brighter primary colors such as red, blue, and yellow. I figured he chose these because a child would be more fascinated in something bright and colorful instead of dull and plain. One of the formal elements that stood out to me the most was color. I chose this because color is such a big aspect in this piece of work. Blue, red, and yellow are the most used in this work and are brightly intensified. The vibrant colors caught my eye right away when I saw the picture. The second formal element that is shown in this picture is line. I feel this element goes with the picture because there are many geometrical shapes and lines that direct you to certain aspects. One of the main eye catching features is the Ferris wheel in the background. The wheel catches the eye because all of the lines in the middle draw attention to it. The tents on top of the rides in the back, the fence, and poles/bars on the ride are all very clean cut. Overall the lines in the work lead your eye all around the composition of the piece. Another element that I thought this picture has is shape. Shape is significant as well because the lines in the picture form these figures. For example, the lines that are used on top of the ride tents form triangles, which lead back to shape. • 14. Persuasive Essay On Land Value Tax Taxes have always been a contentious subject in any political discourse. Tax rates, methods of taxation, and other such details are constantly debated and reshaped in order to generate the most revenue and best serve the public. It is the responsibility of the government to pass fair taxes on its citizens that provide optimum efficiency as well as tangible benefits to the welfare of its citizens. One crucial reform to taxation that is being proposed is the Land Value Tax(LVT) which will have compounding benefits to the country it is implemented in. A LVT is a tax levied on the unimproved value of land as opposed to property taxes which take into account the value of the property on the land itself. The idea of LVT originated all the way back to the 18th century and it has seen successful modern application in countries like Australia, Hong Kong and Estonia and even the U.S. state Pennsylvania. Land Value Tax must be implemented in the United States because the LVT encourages economic decision making, it is a progressive tax that benefits the poor in society while combating harmful speculation and it is more efficient than its counterpart, property taxes. Financial risk is the foundation of any economic decision and often more risk results in a greater reward. One of the main arguments in favor of Land Value Taxes is that they will incentivize home improvement and property buildup which are economically risky decisions. The reason for this is that in the status quo, property taxes increase when a property is improved or built upon which discourages people from making said decisions. According to Amanda Hurley from The Architect magazine, Economists believe that LVT is superior to a property tax because the latter disincentivizes owners from improving a property, while the former might encourage them to make the highest and best use of their land (Hurley 2017). In simple terms, deciding to build upon or improve property has no negative effects to the owners of said property. This will provide an increase in the development of properties and previously abandoned lots wherever the LVT is extolled. Development is an invaluable barometer for the economic prosperity of a city because if more people decide to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the following essay I am going to explore positivism as well as the attraction of positivism. I will also look at why human beings are being described for scientific purposes as if they were things as well as the educational implications of this. Lastly I will look at the benefits of positivism. Heather(1976, p12) states that positivism is a position in epistemology. I reiterate that positivism benefits all those who want to take control of those around them. Reinforcement also allowed you to predict certain behaviours (Skinner, 1968). An example of this could be seen by the elite group for example teachers. Essay about In Defense of Direct Perception In Defense of Direct Perception ABSTRACT: My goal in this paper is to defend the claim that one can directly perceive an object without possessing any descriptive beliefs about this object. My strategy in defending this claim is to rebut three arguments that attack my view of direct perception. According to these arguments, the notion of direct perception as I construe it is objectionable since: (1) it is epistemically worthless since it leaves perceived objects uninterpreted; (2) it cannot explain how perceived objects are identified; and (3) it is ill prepared to assign objective content to perceptual states. Clearly, this is a form of what many people would call indirect perception. It includes such cases as perceiving something on the basis of, or by means of, perceiving something else. And, I submit, if this is what it means for a belief to mediate one s perception of an object, it follows that there are, in fact, such things as direct perceptions, and that the object of a direct perception is an undescribed object. For, to begin with, any chain of inferences has to start somewhere; and, eventually, there has to be a belief, state of mind, or state of the world, of which one is aware, without one s having been aware of some other belief, state of mind, or state of the world beforehand. Such a belief, state of mind, or state of the world is directly, that is, noninferentially, perceived. Furthermore, suppose that the object of a direct (noninferential) perception is a described object. Since, once again, any description of an object is expressed as a belief, and since we are assuming here that the way for a belief to mediate one s perception of an object is by means of an inference, this means that the belief expressing the description is playing an inferential role in perceiving the object which contradicts our assumption that the object of perception is uninferred. Allah then created the universe in six days (The Koran 25:59). These six days can be interpreted as six distinct periods or eons (Doge 143). The reason the six days can be interpreted is because of the word youm. Youm is understood as a long period of time, an era or eon. (Dodge 143). Allah created the universe and the physical earth in two days, and then used the next four days to populate it with life (Dodge 143). Once he had created everything Allah established Himself on the Throne, to oversee all of creation (Dodge 144). The Qur an has several different answers pertaining to mankind s creation. The answers given are a blood clot (surah 96:1 2), water (surah 21:30), burned clay (surah 15:26), dust (surah 3:59), nothing (surah 19:67), earth (surah 11:61), or a drop of thick fluid (surahs 16:4, 75:37) (Caner 92). With all these differences, there is only one similarity between the biblical worldview and the Islamic worldview concerning creation. Both worldviews believe in a transcendent creator. It is almost impossible to give an understanding of origin because the origin of life is not considered important to most Muslims. This quandary supports evidence that Allah is not a personal God. He doesn t care if his followers understand their origin, instead he places their very salvation in their own hands. Out of the one hundred and two names Allah goes by not one of them is considered an intimate name (Caner 117). In contrast the Bible consistently refers to God as our father, thus presenting a more intimate creator. (Word count 519) The Question of Identity To be human is to be honored above creatures of the earth and sea (The Koran 17:70). Allah also gave man the ability to discern good from evil and freewill (Baianonie). Not only are humans able to discern right from wrong we have the potential to learn and acquire knowledge... Western European Religion Research Paper For my essay, I chose to answer the question: Would you say the Western European Christians in the early 16th century saw religion as a significant part of their lives? Why or why not? This almost seems like a trick question to me as I feel, yes religion played a significant role in their lives, but no I don t think they respected it as God intended. If you use money and political status as a loophole in the system, is Christianity that important to you? After the devastating damage the Black Death caused, Tetzel and his indulgences came in at a prime time when people were most vulnerable. People witnessing their friends and family dying left and right, everyone was in a panic because they needed to cleanse their soul as soon as possible just in case the grim reaper took them away next. Although it seems Tetzel took advantage of the faith of the Christian people, I don t think that s the case. The people buying these indulgences took the easy was out in my opinion. As far as I know, nowhere in the bible does it state your sins will be forgiven by paying someone money. As soon as one man realized that it was useful for a single individual to have provisions for two, equality disappeared, property came into existence, labor became necessary demonstrates that men will subjugate and deprive others in order to act in self interest (74). Once the strong came to understand the pleasure of accumulating more than is necessary for survival, they thought of nothing but the subjugation and enslavement of their neighbors, like those ravenous wolves that on having once tasted human flesh, reject all other food and desire to devour only men (78). Because force is always illegitimate, property maintained through force is always illegitimate as well. The illegitimacy of force is demonstrated by Rousseau s stinging condemnation of the sultan who rules through force. The sultan s rule is illegitimate, but those who overthrow the sultan with force are equally illegitimate. Rousseau explains that the uprising that ends in the strangulation or the dethronement of the sultan is as lawful an act as those by which he disposed of the lives and goods of his subjects the day before. Force alone maintained him, force alone brings him down (90). Property can only be seized through force, which is always illegitimate, regardless of the current proprietor s illegitimate claim to the land. In both Marx s depiction of society and Rousseau s, humans have developed through a succession of stages to act in self interest, oppressing other humans for the sake of material gain. They agree that property is a human construction created by the strong to solidify social status and sustained through illegitimate legal and economic systems. For both philosophers, illegitimate property leads to labor becoming deeply dehumanizing. The craving to own illegitimate property comes from human greed, appetites, and socialization. There are many arguments that are for and against the death penalty. Majority of these arguments contain broad categories ranging from morality to attorney quality. Although most would support that capital punishment is the closest penalty for murder it is still used unequally across the prison populations. Capital punishment is a practice that the judicial system should abolish for the future generations. The death penalty is unconstitutional and violates numerous amendments. Capital punishment violates the 5th amendment because it violates the due process clause by denying the opportunity for exoneration. Since the process of an execution can immobilize a person from being able to speak if they are in pain it is viewed that the death penalty is a cruel and unusual punishment which violates the 8th amendment. The violation of the 8th amendment also applies to juveniles and mentally retarded criminals because they do not have the capacity to understand that the crime they committed was a societal wrong. Statistically, the amount of people who are convicted are generally from the same societal class. This is an important yet difficult lesson to teach children in the digital age because they spend less time participating in face to face encounters and more time behind a screen. In fact children ages 8 18 spend approximately 7.5 hours using technology and social media (New Research, 2014). What makes this lesson so difficult is the fact that because children spend so much time behind a screen interacting with people, they spend less time reading people s emotions and seeing how their words affect other people. In fact, many adults struggle to come to this realization as well. Based on my own personal experience on social media, many adults still react to situations they come across online emotionally and do not necessarily think about what they are posting and how their words affect the people that are reading them. In fact, social media is an excellent source of poor digital etiquette with all of the fights, swearing, and belittling of others that occurs on these platforms (Digital Etiquette, 2008).
