The Story Of Cinderella
Rewrite a fairy tale from the perspective of one of the minor character in the story.
Once upon a time, there was a little house that lived in the forest not too far from the king s castle.
Hello, my name is Anna one of Cinderella s stepsisters and my other sister is Rose. You must have
heard that in the store of Cinderella that we are the evil stepsisters in the story. Well now I am going to
write a story about how nice we are and that we are not evil. One day Cinderella s father had passed
and my beautiful mother brought her into our house to do some chores around the house. So,
Cinderella got to work on the chores, making dinner for my mother and me and my sister. We saved
some for Cinderella while she was cleaning up she was eating the food that she made. One day we all
got an invention to the prince s ball tomorrow night. So that day we went out to shop for some ball
gown dresses. The night of the prince s ball we all got ready to go meet the prince so that he can pick
out a bride for himself and we all were so excited. The mother told Cinderella to stay home and finish
up the chores for when we get back from the ball. So, I and mother and Rose left for the ball leaving
Cinderella at home to work on the chores. When we all got to the ball there was a lot of people there
for the prince s ball, but I went up to talk with the prince and maybe dance with him, but all of sudden
everyone looked and there was a beautiful princess walking down to the floor. The prince

Colonial Latin Americ A Strong Gender Hierarchy
Colonial Latin America had a strong gender hierarchy that was maintained through a mix of social and
legal control. Spain enacted policies restricting the immigration of women to it colonies in the
Americas. In order to mold colonial society in accordance to the ideals of the family society that
existed in Spain waves of female emigration laws were passed in the 1530s and 1540s. The conditions
created for women to emigrate from Spain created an uneven hierarchy where men held greater
autonomy. One law states that single women could not migrate to the colonies, unless they were going
to be under their father s care because of the crown feared the increasing prostitution epidemic that
was prevalent in the colonies. Further laws were passed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A woman s virtue was a major social control because it was the only guarantee that her child would be
of the man s lineage, bloodline, and status. This was a strict double standard that conceptualizes
women as being inferior to men while holding them to a higher standard than men. These social
customs where largely ignored in practice was the colonies were filled with high levels of illegitimacy
which never fell below 40% between whites and mestizos and it was even higher for Native
Americans and Africans. Women with status had the means of resisting the patriarchal control. They
could exercise parental control over their children, and estates if their husbands gave them legal
consent, they could also freely sell property. They maintained control of property they held before
their marriage and if widowed they received their dowries and a portion of their husbands assets.
Dowries functioned as insurance for the women incase her husband died. These laws enabled women
to inherit and administer properties. This enabled well off women to use the legal system and the
courts to negotiate better terms in the gender hierarchy. Education was also used to perpetuate the
gender hierarchy as women were severely kept out of education. Education

Nutrition and Its Effects on Criminality
The criminal justice system in the United States focuses its efforts on issues such as over crowding in
prisons, police brutality, hot spots, and the like. Although these are all very important, the most
important could be considered; where the issue of criminality could be coming from. The focus here is
the link between nutrition and criminality. The importance of good nutrition will be reviewed as well
as the criminality linked to poor nutrition. Research has found the importance of a good balanced diet
makes a big difference in the way that a person s brain functions. Lack of education on nutrition in
low socioeconomic areas can be to blame in this aspect, as well as a lack of funds available to the
families in these regions. This research will explore the importance of good nutrition, the link between
it and criminality as well as supporting research in this area.
Introduction
In the United States, good nutrition has taken a back seat to convenient, low cost, prepackaged, and
processed foods. We all have had our fill of macaroni and cheese as children, but how did that cheap
and easy meal shape our general outcome as adults? What did that box of cheesy goodness really
contain? Our society has gone into an epidemic when dinner is considered, a good meal as it comes
out of a paper sack. Eating this way changes the way we eat, think, react, and live. This is displayed in
a change in the physiology of our brain. Our intake of food affects the brain chemistry and

Similarities Between Jason And Odysseus
This mythological character was saved as an infant to be raised as a true hero. He made the most
dangerous journeys in order to keep an unfit leader out of position. From day one without knowing it,
he was going to live a life being a hero. Jason, son of Aeson, was in danger when he was born. He was
fortunately saved, and later in life followed in his father s footsteps. He set an example to never give
up on what you want, or what you are meant to do. Keep trying in life and make an effort to do
anything it takes. Jason s sister saved his life when he was an infant by calling out to one of the
cherished Gods. Jason was part of the family that was ordered to be killed so they could not overtake
the throne from Pelias. He needed saving, but was only a small child and was helpless. Hera, a
cherished God, answered the sister of Jason when she cried out three times for help. Hera then handed
Jason over to Centaur Chiron who was known as the wisest and justest of all of the centaurs. By being
raised by such a role model, Jason grew up to be so determined not to let the throne be taken over by
someone who wasn t fit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

over. So he went to Pelias about the throne. Even though he would have to work to get through things
with Pelias, he was very driven to make the position for the throne. He was raised by heros and had
very good qualities, such as good judgement and a person who would never give

Cabaret Movie Analysis
Throughout the history of the world, societies have always tried to imagine a utopian way of life
and/or society. But in other cases, the use of raunchy apparel and countless bottles of alcohol are used
to deny the idea of an uprising of a totalitaristic government. This is a brief summary of the two hours
and four minutes of the musical drama Cabaret, directed by Bob Fosse.
Cabaret was pulled from the pages of The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood and later on
adapted into a twelve Tony award winning Broadway musical in 1966. Later on, after Cabaret became
dormant in public eye, Bob Fosse adopted the musical and decided to put in on the big screens in
1972. Fosse made no mistake of recruiting large names for his movie, such as Liza Minnelli, Michael
York and Joel Gray. The Screenplay of Cabaret would continue on to win eight academy awards,
resulting in an almost near sweep of the 1973 oscars, and be named three hundred and sixty seven on
Empire s list of greatest five hundred movies of all time.
Liza Minnelli received the most recognition for her portrayal of socially conflicted Sally Bowles.
Minnelli had been lesser known before her role in Cabaret. Before Cabaret, Minnelli had a few small
roles, and had mainly been performing on stage in front of live audiences. She was known for being
the daughter of Judy Garland, the original Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. Minelli, before hitting the
big screen, received the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for

Contextual Inquiry
Contextual inquiry is developed by Beyer and Holtzblatt (1988). The data is collected through
contextual inquiry. Contextual inquiry is a qualitative study from various field such as psychology,
anthropology and sociology (Ghasemifard, Shamsi, Kenari, Ahmadi, 2015). Therefore contextual
inquiry method is carried out to assist the cognitive performance among users. The first step taken is
to observe users based on the usability testing methods in their cognitive performance while using the
app. Then questions are asked based on the existing problem discovered and the process taken by
users in completing their task through the app. There are four evaluators that participated in this study
to observe the usability of the application created and at the same time to jot down different
performances that may occur simultaneously in terms of their cognitive actions. According to the
International Organisation for Standardization (1998), the usability testing mode is used to measure
the effectiveness, efficiency, responses (Bastien, 2010) and satisfaction among the users. Usability
testing is carried out to measure the performance of user while using the app. The app is the prototype
that will be tested. The measurement of the performance includes ... Show more content on

Contextual inquiry focuses on structured interviews although unstructured interviews were also
carried out in the beginning of the interview session. There are three principles of contextual inquiry
investigated such as the understanding of users in their task performance, users are also a part of the
research design process and the usability design process (Ghasemifard, Shamsi, Kenari Ahmadi,
2015). Meanwhile, the behaviors of the users are observed and recorded in order to identify design
flaws that causes user errors or difficulties (Bastien, 2010) in the application

Critique of the Movie Tinker Tailor Solider Spy
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: Critique of a Movie Review Introduction Oscar Season, so dubbed by
Hollywood executives and the media covering their world, is quickly approaching. Within the
illustrious group of nominees are those featured in the beautifully made cerebral film, Tinker Tailor
Soldier Spy. The film, which is a jewel of cinematic effort, is very much the opposite of today s often
found shallow comedies or horror films. This film, in its grasp, includes so much of that which ought
to be found in the art that is cinema. For this reason, and because of the momentum the film has
garnered following the leading actor s nomination for an Academy Award, many have taken to
commenting on Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. One such article is presented below and will be both
summarized and discussed in order to see just how the critic world sees this film, and for what reason.
Article Summary The article mentioned above is entitled Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is No Easy Watch
and is written by Chris Krapek for the Huffington Post. Krapek s main point in this particular critique
of the film is that it is quite a difficult movie to watch and understand. Krapek starts by offering his
opinions on the film, including imagining many individuals in his personal life scoffing at how boring
the movie actually is. Then, Krapek offers a summary of the film. Within this part, which takes up
most of the article, the author expands upon the main points of the film. These include,

Graffiti Is A Beautiful Crime Linda Ngo Summary
A Rhetorical Reading Response: Graffiti is a Beautiful Crime Linda Ngo, author of the opinion piece
Graffiti is a Beautiful Crime (2017), argues that graffiti should be legalized on grounds that it is an
artistic expression of free speech. Ngo uses many comparisons between graffiti, which she claims is
harmless, to many legal activities that cause people harm. Her purpose in writing this paper is to
establish a legal form of graffiti to protect graffiti artists from legal action. Ngo s target audience for
this paper is peers who may have different views on graffiti and its purpose. This paper contained
many flawed arguments that frustrated me. The question How could beautiful quotes and images
destroy boring plain walls? (Ngo 198) has a simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the person wants the graffiti on their building, it is not vandalism and is already legal. Ngo also
compares alcohol and tobacco use to graffiti. This is a weak argument because a person chooses to
consume the substances and suffer their own personal consequences. A graffiti artist chooses another
person s property and inflicts damage to it. Freedom of speech is a protected right we have as
Americans, but it does not and should not extend to protect vandalism. Linda Ngo creates her
arguments primarily from two methods. Her first two arguments are made in the form of syllogism.
For example, Ngo states Freedom of speech and expression is a natural right that we assimilated when
we were born (196), and This right gives people the opportunity to speak their mind whether it s
directly using your mouth or using indirect methods through poetry, music, and visual arts (196).
Since graffiti would be a visual art, the argument is; if freedom of speech legally protects art, and
graffiti is art, then graffiti should be legally protected. Another example of this is when she defines
vandalism as Action involving deliberate destruction of or damage to

Phrasing Trauma In Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl
Phrasing Trauma: Ozick s The Shawl Few topics still carry a stronger resonance than that of the
experiences of those who were sent to concentration camps during the Holocaust. Cynthia Ozick tells
a deeply moving story about one woman s experience being sent to and surviving in a camp in The
Shawl . It is an intimate look at a mother s love for her daughters in the face of evil both from outside
and within their family. The diction of The Shawl is heavily influenced by the mental state of its main
character. The story s perspective, although third person, is focused on Rosa and told in a way that is
representative of her trauma. In this way, Ozick s specific dictional choices enhance the reader s
emotional connection with Rosa. By using convoluted and indirect diction ... Show more content on

As is often the case in trauma fiction, The Shawl is an attempt to convey to the reader an emotional
scaring story. Ozick accomplishes this in part by choosing obscurified diction that makes it difficult
for the reader to process that events that are unfolding. And the moment Magda s feathered round head
and her pencil legs and balloonish belly and zigzag arms splashed against the fence, the steel voices
went mad in their growling, urging Rosa to run and run to the spot where Magda had fallen from her
flight against the electrical fence; (Ozick 248). Steel voices, zigzag arms, splashed : none of these
phrases seem to describe Magda or what happened to her in any meaningful way. It is the nonsensical
nature of Ozick s diction, however, that make the reader uneasy. By choosing diction that doesn t
make sense for describing a human, Ozick shows the reader not quite

Research Paper On Mars
Mars is our 4th planet in the Solar System in the Milky Way Galaxy, It consists of frozen water, but it
s water is underground because the atmosphere that was there is gone, and it kept the water warm on
mars, but since it the atmosphere is gone, the water froze into the ground. People are also thinking
about traveling up to mars, and colonizing it for the future to live on for generations to come.
Though it could cost over five hundred thousand dollars to get a spaceship and the fuel to go to mars,
it will still be quite worth it to do so. Elon Musk was one of the astronomers to be able to go to the

Dream Interpretation For Beginners Summary
A person opens their eyes and realizes that they are are on a gigantic chocolate chip cookie boat,
flowing down a warm, white, milky river. When the person looks all around from the milky river, the
person sees mountains that are made of ice cream and are topped with whipped cream and cherries on
top. They are in paradise. They awake to a loud sound, and as the milky river and ice cream mountains
fade away, they realize it was all just a dream. Dreams are a series of thoughts, images and sensations
that occur in a person s mind when they are sleep. Peoples views on dreaming today are similar yet
different in a way, from what people believed back then. Sigmund Freud s beliefs and theories were
believed by many people, including one of his theories called day residue. There are several facts and

have learned or done the day of or the day before. For example, if a student is reading a certain novel

Southwest Airlines Expanded Beyond The Border Essay
WHY SOUTHWEST AIRLINES EXPANDED BEYOND THE BORDER Southwest Airlines, while
an incredibly successful business, eventually made the decision to make the dive into the international
market. This decision was made on a variety of factors such as opportunity, overfares, diversifying,
and Southwest Airline s own flattening growth on the domestic front. In the world of business it s a
dog eat dog world. Competition is fierce and a lot of the time opportunities need to be created as
opposed to be taken advantage of. Southwest Airlines managed to do both of these at the same time

and its low cost strategy to make opportunities. One such opportunity that is referenced comes from an

most requested international destination from the East Bay and North Bay that does not have a non

approval to fly between Oakland and Los Cabos. This is not an opportunity that was created by
Southwest Airlines, but an opportunity which was created by the lapse in coverage by the rest of the
airlines who fly from those airports. This is the exact type of lapse that creates opportunities for

show with just a handful of white people. This show gave him the character Fire Marshall Bill, which

Toddler Beds And Dimensions Of Choosing A Twin Bed
When looking for a new bed, it s important to understand the sizes and dimensions of your options.
When considering a bed, even for a child, it is important that you do not limit yourself to simple single
and twin beds. While beds of this size may be adequate now, a small bed may limit your future
options. A growing child, for instance, may go from a toddler bed to a queen that they can continue to
use comfortably as they grow. understanding bed sizes will also help you determine how well a certain
bed will fit in your available space.
Toddler Beds
The standard dimension for toddler beds in the United States is 27 inches wide by 52 inches long.
These dimensions are roughly the same as most cribs so that your baby s crib mattress can easily be
moved from the crib to the bed when it s time. This allows you to use your baby s crib mattress and its
accompanying sheet sets for a much longer period of time. It s also easy to find waterproof mattress
covers and protectors in this size to help you clean up nighttime accidents during potty training.
Toddler beds also include railings and are low to the ground to prevent falls. ... Show more content on

Examples Of Procedural Safeguards

five percent of college women are victims of attempted or completed nonconsensual sex (Burying Our

assaulted. She reported her case to the ODU Police Department where she was treated as a suspect
rather than a victim (Jane). The university police department denied this young woman of many things

The local police department can be a mentor to the university police department. They can help train
in trauma skills as well as investigative skills. It is important to know how to investigate a person with
little skepticism, because during trauma the too much skepticism can turn a person away. It is already
difficult for a victim to go and report a crime because it requires them to relive that dreadful moment
again, and that is why some victims are scared to go to local police department, but this can happen
with the university police as well. In the ODU vs Jane Doe case she was interrogated with much
skepticism, which had results such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, and weight loss (Jane). On the
other hand, if you investigate the victim like there is no chance at all that they could be lying than that
leave the accuser hopelessly and they could be innocent. The accused sometimes go to the university
expected to already be guilty before even presenting their side. Nancy Chi Cantalupo, writer in Journal
of College and University Law, acknowledges in Decriminalizing Campus Institutional Responses to

rights are lost. Due to the matter that universities cannot enforce criminal laws, they are not required

Descriptive Essay About Microcosm
Humanity delights in escaping reality even if only for a short time. Some choose to play sports, some
watch tv, and others still choose to spend their time reading. Withdrawal from reality links all hobbies
together. Likewise, I like to achieve this liberation by sailing. Imagine the wind gusting across your
body, the smell of the strong scent of water in your nostrils, and the thrill of the wind thrusting your
boat along. I was astounded when I discovered this microcosm twenty minutes away in the middle of
the scorching desert.
Immediately upon exiting the car, I am greeted by the familiar telltale smell of the lake. It is a
combination of a fishy and algae scent that isn t overly pleasant, nevertheless, it doesn t detract from
the experience. On nice windy days, I felt the wind blow through my hair and saw the telltale
whitecaps forming on the water s surface. On sunny days I saw the afternoon sun make the greenish
brown water glimmer majestically and reflect off of the glass in the high rise buildings. I walked to the
gated boatyard adjacent to the parking lot to retrieve my boat.
I walked just beyond the middle of the yard to the section where the boats for my class were stored. I
picked one that appeared to be in good shape and pushed it out of the yard towards the lake. If I had
luck on my side a friend would also help me with this, nonetheless, it is an easy job on the way out of
the yard because the exit is sloped slightly down hill. After I removed the boat from the boatyard, The
instructor would either tell me to help someone transport another boat out of the boatyard After all the
boats were out and ready to be rigged, the instructor would tell the other students and me to start
rigging the boats. Normally, I take about ten minutes to rig a boat myself and five with help from a
friend. It is a pretty simple process and involves checking the boat for any damage, making sure the
drain plug is screwed in tight, and hoisting the sails halfway up. Next, the instructor launches the boats
with his truck and I rushed to the boat to prepare it to sail. I would lower the keel and rudder, raise the
sails to the top of the mast. At last, I was sailing.
When I first set the sail and feel the wind just start

Bandwagon In Advertising
The media and advertisers have integrated themselves into our everyday lives without us even
realizing it and it s starting to appear that we ve almost become blind to it. Advertisement and the
media started out on billboards, metal signs, and newspapers but as time went on they began evolving
alongside technology. They began swarming the radio, consuming television, sneaking onto the big
screen, and most recently plastering themselves on every webpage that are focused specifically on the
consumer through their search history. This evolution has taken place with little to no attention given
to it and now there s no stopping it. Think about it when was the last time there was a movie or major

Youth Apathy And Apathy
A common sentiment among the older generations is that the youth of today have stopped caring. The
youth of today are almost always disengaged with politics and world issues (K.), and it seems that
apathy has taken hold of the new generation. However, youth apathy should not be blamed on the
youth themselves, as this apathy comes from a culmination of pressures and circumstances beyond
their control. This is due to popular shows promoting the message of apathy, the biology of young
adults and teenagers, and the oversaturation of world issues in the media. Instead of pushing blame on
youth for their apathetic leanings, it is time to examine the core of why youth begin to feel this way.
The average youth spends 9 hours per day consuming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, in some teenagers it may be more than hormones. A study by Oxford University found that
[it may be] more of an effort for apathetic people to turn decisions into actions ( Brain ). As such,
some adolescents may be biologically predisposed to apathy, as it takes them more time to make
decisions than their more engaged counterparts. To summarise, the problem of apathy among youth
comes from the youth s biology. The prevalence of negative news within the media has also become
detrimental to the engagement of youth. The exposure to negative media within the news can cause
teenagers to experience a large amount of emotional distress, sometimes leading to the development of
post traumatic stress disorder (Pollard). As such, adolescents bombarded by negative news may
become too overwhelmed by the news that they view, thus causing them to prefer escapism to
activism. A survey from Times Mirror shows that while more people think the news is too full of
violence, fewer people today than in the 1980 s believe that the news exaggerates the amount of
violence in America (Clark). Thusly, as people believe that the news, though full of violence, does not
exaggerate this violence, adolescents surrounded by this news may begin to feel overwhelmed by the
negativity, and will stop caring. Overall, the perceived prevalence of negative

The Love Scene between George and Maire from Translations...
The Love Scene between George and Maire from Translations
This scene, in my opinion is the dramatic centre of Translations. The scene displays that George and
Maire have fallen in love as they return from the dance together; the pair find it hard to communicate,
and exhaust every method of communication before reciting place names to one another. The common
language of the place names increases the tension between George and Maire until, finally, they kiss.
The kiss is witnessed by Sarah who uses her new found talent of speech to tell
Manus. The scene, in my view is very important as it is the catalyst for the disastrous events which
follow, it leads to the disappearance of George, the search of Baile Baeg by new English ... Show

The scene subsequent to the love scene (Act 3 Scene 1) has a different premise and feeling than the
fairytale love scene; it is bleak and rushed as the audience are told that George is missing, and
Manus is packing up to leave implying some guilt and is evidently traumatized. Manus goes to the
extent of ignoring Sarah, which as she represents Ireland, makes a big impact; he is giving up. The
scene has a black mood, which contrasts with the hope the lovers shared in the previous scene.
The scene has significance as it gives a romantic side to the play whilst still representing the recurrent
themes. The use of place names as communication gives a magical, mythical bond between George
and
Maire, which draws the lovers together. Firstly, they gesture to one another, the most primitive form of
communication; an example of this:
(Indicating himself) George .
George is telling Maire his name, which is his identity and what describes him as a person. As the pair
recite their names to one another, it is as if they are allowing one another into their hearts, as a gesture
of love.
The pair also try to communicate in Latin, common words of one another s language and using the
elements, which increase the audience s suspense as the lovers desperately, try to get their meanings
across. George s constant sorry sorry? and Oh my God shows the desperation with which he tries

Four Components Of Total Quality Management
Quality management ensures that an organization, product or service is consistent. It has four main
components: quality planning, quality assurance, quality control and quality improvement. It does not
only focus on product and service quality, but also on the means to achieve it. Quality management
uses quality assurance and control of processes as well as products to achieve more consistent quality.
The dynamic changes taking place in the retail market are resulting in a less space for retailers to
differentiate in terms of product assortment, prices and quality since they all offer the same and
opening more space for them to differentiate in terms of service excellence.
The success of the business is now more related to quality improvement. In retail, quality is related to

The multi perspectives can be an advantage for organizations as depending on a single definition
might lead to problems.
Today, TQM concept is the most comprehensive, it has emerged into the main stream of organizations
and became a function like any other activity like marketing or commercial.
Total Quality management
TQM is a management philosophy that seeks to integrate all organizational functions, it starts with
identifying who are our customers and what are their requirements.
Every function within an organization has a group of customers who have needs and requirements.
The focus on the relationship between customers and suppliers plays an important role when
attempting to improve quality. TQM starts by forming a link between the external customers needs,
internal customer supplier relationship and necessities then continues to the external suppliers.
Implementing TQM requires an assessment of the organization s current reality. The following,

Padre Pio s Beliefs
Padre Pio was born May 25, 1887 in Pietrelcina, Italy, a small country town located in southern Italy.
His parents were Grazio Mario Forgione and Maria Guiseppa de Nunzio Forgione. He was baptized
the next day, in the nearby Castle Church, with the name of his brother, Francesco, who died in early
infancy. Other children in the family were four siblings, 3 sisters and one brother. Religion was the
center of both Pietrelcina and the Forgione family. The town celebrated different saints and the bell in
the Castle Church was used not for ringing the hour, but for daily devotional time. His family attended
daily mass, prayed the rosary nightly and fasted three days a week from meat in honor of Our Lady of
Mt. Carmel. Although Padre Pio s grandparents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Padre Pio had another vision, the wounded Christ. After the vision ended, Padre Pio received the

Before 1927, business studies were taught in early institution but there was no official record of it
evolution. Nevertheless, Professor Gras started a business history program that aimed at tracing the
chronologic development of history from small scale learning to the current institutions. He was an
editor of the Bulletin of the Business Historical Society since the year 1926 1953, which was later
transformed in the year 1953 to the modern Business History review (86). During this period, business
was learnt through the application of theories that were simple and specific to a certain situation or
discipline. The major factor that contributed to the narrow nature of the early business was the motive

Fair-Value Accounting and the Financial Crisis Essay
Market crashes are nearly as old as the invention of money itself. But, as Gillian Tett underlines in
Fool s Gold, the latest financial crisis stands out due to its sheer size . Economists estimate total losses
could sum up to $2000 to $4000 billion, a number surprisingly not dissimilar to the British Gross
Domestic Product. In its post mortem, the self inflicted disaster has commonly brought to light the
question: Did bankers, regulators and rating agencies fail to see the flaws, or did they fail to care?
Importantly, it has also created a hunt for scapegoats and quick fixes.
Many Republicans and industry lobbyists have insisted that the financial meltdown would not have
been nearly as bad if not for the deadly Fair Value Accounting ... Show more content on

However, during the financial crisis, the application of the accounting standards was very different,
and did not demand pure FVA.
Firstly, the write downs were not as apparent as they seemed. Due to the mixed attribute model, firms
were allowed to choose the measurement attribute they desired for a position through how they
classified the position. During the crisis, banks did indeed utilize these safeguards and discretion built
into FVA on their mortgage based securities. This resulted in the re classification of many fair value
assets into other categories in which weaker impairment standards were applied. Hence, most bank
financial assets were valued at amortized historic costs on their balance sheets. With only trading type
operations reported under fair value principles . This implies that FVA standards would have made
little difference in a bank s balance sheets and regulatory capital ratios. For the same reason, written
down values were also barely understatements. If anything, they were in fact overstatements as banks
had the individual discretion in determining fair value. Lastly, FVA standards also allowed the use of
valuation models in the calculation of fair values when markets become inactive, and stated that
market prices from forced sales should not be used. Hence FVA should have mitigated contagion
effects, and actually protected institutions against negative spill overs from distressed banks
respectively. In a

The Military Professional Identity Is Defined Differently...
As Midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy, we are in the developmental phase on our way
to become the future leaders defined as military professionals. The military professional identity is
defined differently by everyone. I believe for one to embody the military professional identity, he or
she has to be a leader of character and ready to defend the nation. The four years spent at the Naval
Academy gives you the opportunity to develop and mold your physical, mental, and moral stature in
order to embody the military professional identity that one desires or believes is right. I believe that
one s character is partially developed based on their core values. I personally embody core values such
as dependability, honesty, and commitment. There are other core values that I would say are necessary
in order to fit the identity as a military professional, but those three values are the ones that define me
as a future leader in the military. A leader should be dependable at least. As a leader in the military,
you constantly will have subordinates who are facing trials and tribulations in which they will need a
leader that they can trust and depend on. That follows right into my next core value that is honesty.
Being honest is the only way to really earn someone s trust. An individual will only follow in an
environment where he or she knows that the one leading them is consistently honest. This
environment would include a leader that refrains from deception by lying or

5. As with Chinese women, slave women in the U.S. experienced complete losses of power over their

were forced to live their lives to the orders of their husbands and higher wives. By given no chance to

samples had the expression for CYP2E1. Comparing the diseased human livers to those of the control

expression for the gene CYP2E1. For the test group, there was the dominant presence of a marker of
DNA double strand break, γ H2AX. For the control group, less than half of the liver samples displayed
this marker. It was clear that those who were exposed to 1,2 DCP had more of an expression of this
DNA marker in their non neoplastic biliary epithelial cells of the large bile duct than those in the
control group with no exposure to 1,2 DCP. Those livers which had been exposed to 1,2 DCP had
signs of a tumor protein in their cells and bile ducts called p53. This study is extremely difficult to

Pleasing Films for Historians and Mainstream Audiences
The transition from historical information to cinema is often a dangerous and controversial road, few
films are able to consistently please both historians and mainstream audiences. The topic of Sino
Japanese relations and China s anti Japanese war is frequently explored in the medium of film. Films
such as City of Life and Death, Norman Bethune: The Making of a Hero, Devils on the Doorstep, The
Last Emperor, Nanking, Flowers of War and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness all seek to investigate this
turbulent period in Chinese history and to reflect upon the many different perspectives involved.
Although the medium of film can never accurately portray history or ever hope to achieve the detailed
work of a scholarly source, it can provide an emotional understanding of some of the most chaotic
periods of human history. The Second World War involved more than 100 million people from thirty
different countries resulting in the deadliest conflict in human history. How can anyone make sense of
that on paper other than listing the number of casualties? Film, deeply aware of its limitations has
become a different form of understanding the past, capable of taking a particular event such as war
and exploring universal themes. Historian Natalie Zemon Davis states that: Historians want to
chronicle what happened, to be sure, but also to explain why it happened and what difference it
made...Although there is an inevitable dialogue between the past and the present, the

The Myth Vs. The Reality In Texas
1. Explain what Jillson means by The Myth vs. The Reality in Texas? According to Cal Jillson, many
people see Texas as a successful model of small government, light regulations, and low tax, basically
an entrepreneurial state rapidly growing in population and creating jobs faster than any other state in
the nation. Unfortunately, while some of the aspects of this view are true, it is not the complete truth.
In reality at about the middle of the twentieth century, the state of Texas was fairly poor, not as poor as
the deep South states, but not as wealthy as the other states including California, Illinois, Connecticut,
New York or even Massachusetts. For example, in 1950, per capita personal income in Connecticut

Romeo And Juliet Reflection
Clark, Michael
Mrs.Binion
La11, Period 1
October 2, 2017
Romeo and Juliet, a story about pain and sorrow. A story with ups and downs. Is that why it entertains
us? Do we like to hear about pain and misery and the out come of it, good or bad? Authors have used
these stories since Shakespeare and Logic. Logic is an outlier because of the way he was raised. He
has seen people he loves die and raped in front of him, hated by his mother enough to where she tried
to kill him multiple times and how he got out of it. How he struggled without a high school diploma,
the people he met and how they changed his life.
In Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Maryland 7:36 A.M., where a biracial baby was born to a black
father and white mother ( Take it Back, Logic) Sir Robert Bryson Hall II was born. His mother was a
racist who would beat him and constantly talk down to him, even trying to kill him one time. His
father was out of the picture most of his life doing drugs that he got from his sons (Logic s Brothers)
who were Drug dealers and killers. He watched his sisters get raped and wasn t able to do anything. It
was going down hill until 14 year old Robert met his mentor Solomon. He showed Robert life outside
the ghetto and got him interested into rap, even encouraged him to perform.
When Logic turned 17 he got expelled from high school and moved out of his house. He had to
maintain two jobs to support him and his rap career. While not much he would perform for Pitbull and
Ludacris when they came in town. Trying to do both was working for a while but eventually he couldn
t keep up with rent and ended up being homeless He struggled to live and rap until he met his investor
His name is lenny. Lenny met up with Logic after a concert and told him that he believed in the vision
that was Logic and would fund him, he d give him a year to make it. So Robert did it, he released his
first album Young, Broke, Infamous . Because of how much recognition he made, he released the 1st
(out of a trilogy) Young Sinatra. Later he d release the 2nd and 3rd Young Sinatras. Lil Dicky is a
rapper who jokes when he raps. While he can make a good beat and a sick rap it s not the same as a
story which makes the difference in a good rapper.

Japanese American Detainment Camps
Although World War Two began in 1939, the United States did not enter the conflict until 1941. The
country s entrance into the war was caused by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After the
attack the government had suspicion that the Japanese Americans were spies. So, congress passed the
Executive order 9066, stating all Japanese Americans would be relocated to detainment camps. They
remained in these camps for two years. Japanese Americans faced many difficulties in the detainment

Weaknesses Of Our Infrastructure Created By Cyber Threats
Weaknesses in our infrastructure created by cyber threats
1. Technology infrastructure that holds the vulnerabilities.
2. Examples of previous exploitation and specific software s
3. How these issues can be addressed?
In almost every application of modern infrastructure, technology plays a huge part in running and
maintaining said infrastructure as efficiently, precisely and reliably as possible. Traffic lights run on
automated cycles, airports have their booking and flight data entirely digitized, and water treatment
systems rely on computerized controls and systems. All of these and many more are pieces of
infrastructure that had once been done by hand, but now use computers and technology to operate at
the rates vital for our fast moving and massive societies. It can be said with great certainty that the
computerized systems behind many of our societies support structures have intrinsically become what
we define with the title of critical infrastructure. The problem with the otherwise efficient and superior
implementations of computerized technology is that now, in the wake of programs such as STUXNET,
it is incredibly apparent that this infrastructure is vulnerable. For any number of reasons or
motivations, terrorist or criminal hackers are able to find ways in to the computerized systems of
critical infrastructure, and as we move forward, these vulnerabilities could easily turn into catastrophic
disasters. Computerized technology has become integral to modern

Essay On Mandatory Evacuations
What happens If Your Do Not Evacuate: It Is Not Just About You Sometimes The question some if not
many people have is Can I be charged and/or arrested for failing to heed a mandatory evacuation
order. The answer is yes, but not likely. In North Carolina for example, the governor can Direct and
compel the evacuation of all, or part of the population from any stricken or threatened area within the
state during a state of emergency . Anyone who violates an evacuation order can be charged with a
class 2 misdemeanor, which can be punishable by up to 30 days of confinement, probation, or
community service (Blitzer, 2016). Texas, for example, specifically provides that a county judge or
mayor of a municipality who orders a mandatory evacuation may compel persons who remain in the
evacuated area to leave and authorize the use of reasonable force to remove persons from the area
(Tex. Government Code § 418.185). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The order is used when the disaster has the potential to cause severe loss of life, and property damage.
The authorities, of course, would prefer people voluntarily leave, and in some cases, a person may be
asked to fill out a form if they refuse to evacuate. The form may ask for a person s next of kin, social
security number, and other identifying information so your remains can be identified. This is
essentially a scare tactic to encourage people to leave. In most cases, you would be told that
emergency services would not be available to include police, fire, hospitals, and
paramedics/ambulance

Constitutional Law Vs Federal Law
The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the country that establishes the 3 branches of government
executive, legislative and judicial. Constitutional law establishes the framework that gives the
legislative body the ability to establish laws. It also serves as a protection of our fundamental rights,
by not allowing government to overreach its authority. Each of the 50 states is sovereign with its own
executive, legislative and judicial branches. This allows each state to maintain its individuality and
govern its people accordingly. However, should a conflict between state and federal law arise then the
Supremacy Clause, found in Article VI of the Constitution, states that state laws must yield to federal
acts. Legislative law determines

Rhetorical Analysis Of Henry s Speech
Paragraph One
In the beginning of the speech, Henry uses a cautious but also assertive tone.
In delivering this speech, Henry intended to highlight the problems caused by Britain, and convince
the American people to fight back against British rule.
Phrases such as the majesty of heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings and nothing less then a
question of freedom or slavery showcase usage of antithesis in the speech.
Henry is appealing to the patriotism and emotions of his audience by mentioning things such as a
question of freedom or slavery , the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country , and
the very worth gentlemen who have just addressed the House .
By comparing the majesty of heaven to earthly kings , Henry is appealing to ethos, or the audience s
concept of ethics.
The phrase freely, and without reserve is an example of parallelism. References to God are an example
of allusion, as most of Henry s audience practiced Christianity. Paragraph Two
The purpose of this section of the talk is to show people s desire to ignore the truth about the state of
their country, and to warn against doing so.
Henry is trying to show how one s default or natural response to the hardships they were facing at the
hands of British rule might be to turn their head the other way.
Henry s reference to Ezekiel 12:2 ( having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not ) was a way to
draw attention to injustices that he saw among the American people. Because most

Henry K Silver. MD, professor, and vice chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of
Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC), established the first Physician Assistant program
curriculum specializing on pediatrics/child specialist when there was an increased demand for
pediatric health care providers. It was important to develop a program that will complement the skills
and training of their pediatrician colleagues as well as develop a fast paced program. Thus he
developed a 36 month program curriculum focusing on providing high quality, comprehensive
primary care to infants, children, and adolescents. In 1969, the legislature passed the Child Health
Associate Act, which allowed non physicians to practice medicine and provide the framework for the
certification of an allied health care professional (Glicken et al). This law played an important role in
further development of PA profession in the following years.
In 1968, the American Academy of Physician Assistants currently known as the American Academy of
Physician Assistants (AAPA) was incorporated in North Carolina and William D Stanhope, PA C was
appointed as the first president. In 1971, the Comprehensive Health Manpower Training Act of 1971
(Public Law 92 157) was established where the congress granted $4 million dollars for the
establishment of the new PA educational programs in 1972 under the Health Manpower Educational
Initiative Awards. It was also during the same time

Essay on The History of Five Churches in London
The churches of London have been through a lot over the past few centuries and the show us every
major phase of English history. The church had a great importance in the medieval society and
transitioned now to the modern days. There are little events that changed the buildings inside and
outside such as the laying of London Underground which damaged only one churches and there are
big incidence such as the Great fire of London which completely destroyed or severely damaged over
80 churches.
Since there are so many churches I focused on just five different ones and their historic background.
All of them are set in the City of London, which is the center of the much bigger city London and are
still in use today.
Most of the Churches were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A new way of building a church was with a cross in square plan, that is said to be a dutch influence,
and a very untraditional nave and aisles with subsidiary chapels.
A lot of churches needed a general rebuilding in the 18th and 19th century such as St.Bartholomew the
Great and All Hallows London Wall. These restoration were needed because of dissolution and decay.
During the 19th century declining population and church attendance in the city intersected with
growing appreciation of the buildings . Because of that Bishop Tait enforced the Union of Benefices
Act of 1860 which lead to the demolition of 16 city churches.
Around that time St.Nicholas Cole Abbey was disturbed during the laying of the London Underground
and St.Bride s Fleet Street was struck by lightening and needed some restoration.
A much bigger impact had the damage that was caused by bombs during the second World War. St.
Olave Hart Street for example was hit by four strikes and was restored in 1951 1954. Other Churches
such as All Hallows London Wall and St.Bride s Fleet Street had some serious war damage and
St.Nicholas Cole Abbey was burnt out in 1941 and reconstructed in 1961 1962. Even though those
churches needed some restoring architects of the 20th century tried to keep it as original as possible
and focused on the old parts of the church without any modern influence.
Throughout these years the churches were adapted

Hezbollah And The Arab-Israeli Conflict
Hezbollah and the Arab Israeli Conflict Many have heard of terrorism in the Middle East, and all of
the conflict that it has caused. There are many terrorist groups who seek to promote terrorism and
convert people to radical Islam. However, many would have not expected Hezbollah, an organization
that formed in the 1980s to remove oppressive Israeli troops from Lebanon and also had financial
support from the Iranian government, to become one of the supposed Middle East s worst terrorists,
and also to become one of the biggest players in the Arab Israeli conflict and cause huge political
sway. Hezbollah, the Party of God , is an organization fraught with Shia muslims which is currently
very powerful in the Middle East and is subsequently popular

Once upon a time, there was a little house that lived in the forest not too far from the king s castle. Hello, my name is Anna one of Cinderella s stepsisters and my other sister is Rose. You must have heard that in the store of Cinderella that we are the evil stepsisters in the story. Well now I am going to write a story about how nice we are and that we are not evil. One day Cinderella s father had passed and my beautiful mother brought her into our house to do some chores around the house. Spain enacted policies restricting the immigration of women to it colonies in the Americas. In order to mold colonial society in accordance to the ideals of the family society that existed in Spain waves of female emigration laws were passed in the 1530s and 1540s. The conditions created for women to emigrate from Spain created an uneven hierarchy where men held greater autonomy. One law states that single women could not migrate to the colonies, unless they were going to be under their father s care because of the crown feared the increasing prostitution epidemic that was prevalent in the colonies. A woman s virtue was a major social control because it was the only guarantee that her child would be of the man s lineage, bloodline, and status. This was a strict double standard that conceptualizes women as being inferior to men while holding them to a higher standard than men. These social customs where largely ignored in practice was the colonies were filled with high levels of illegitimacy which never fell below 40% between whites and mestizos and it was even higher for Native Americans and Africans. Women with status had the means of resisting the patriarchal control. They could exercise parental control over their children, and estates if their husbands gave them legal consent, they could also freely sell property. They maintained control of property they held before their marriage and if widowed they received their dowries and a portion of their husbands assets. Dowries functioned as insurance for the women incase her husband died. These laws enabled women to inherit and administer properties. This enabled well off women to use the legal system and the courts to negotiate better terms in the gender hierarchy. The importance of good nutrition will be reviewed as well as the criminality linked to poor nutrition. Research has found the importance of a good balanced diet makes a big difference in the way that a person s brain functions. Lack of education on nutrition in low socioeconomic areas can be to blame in this aspect, as well as a lack of funds available to the families in these regions. This research will explore the importance of good nutrition, the link between it and criminality as well as supporting research in this area. Introduction In the United States, good nutrition has taken a back seat to convenient, low cost, prepackaged, and processed foods. We all have had our fill of macaroni and cheese as children, but how did that cheap and easy meal shape our general outcome as adults? What did that box of cheesy goodness really contain? Our society has gone into an epidemic when dinner is considered, a good meal as it comes out of a paper sack. Eating this way changes the way we eat, think, react, and live. • 6. Cabaret Movie Analysis Throughout the history of the world, societies have always tried to imagine a utopian way of life and/or society. But in other cases, the use of raunchy apparel and countless bottles of alcohol are used to deny the idea of an uprising of a totalitaristic government. This is a brief summary of the two hours and four minutes of the musical drama Cabaret, directed by Bob Fosse. Cabaret was pulled from the pages of The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood and later on adapted into a twelve Tony award winning Broadway musical in 1966. Later on, after Cabaret became dormant in public eye, Bob Fosse adopted the musical and decided to put in on the big screens in 1972. Fosse made no mistake of recruiting large names for his movie, such as Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Gray. The Screenplay of Cabaret would continue on to win eight academy awards, resulting in an almost near sweep of the 1973 oscars, and be named three hundred and sixty seven on Empire s list of greatest five hundred movies of all time. Liza Minnelli received the most recognition for her portrayal of socially conflicted Sally Bowles. Minnelli had been lesser known before her role in Cabaret. Before Cabaret, Minnelli had a few small roles, and had mainly been performing on stage in front of live audiences. She was known for being the daughter of Judy Garland, the original Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. Minelli, before hitting the big screen, received the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for ... Graffiti Is A Beautiful Crime Linda Ngo Summary A Rhetorical Reading Response: Graffiti is a Beautiful Crime Linda Ngo, author of the opinion piece Graffiti is a Beautiful Crime (2017), argues that graffiti should be legalized on grounds that it is an artistic expression of free speech. Ngo uses many comparisons between graffiti, which she claims is harmless, to many legal activities that cause people harm. Her purpose in writing this paper is to establish a legal form of graffiti to protect graffiti artists from legal action. Ngo s target audience for this paper is peers who may have different views on graffiti and its purpose. This paper contained many flawed arguments that frustrated me. If the person wants the graffiti on their building, it is not vandalism and is already legal. Ngo also compares alcohol and tobacco use to graffiti. This is a weak argument because a person chooses to consume the substances and suffer their own personal consequences. A graffiti artist chooses another person s property and inflicts damage to it. Freedom of speech is a protected right we have as Americans, but it does not and should not extend to protect vandalism. Linda Ngo creates her arguments primarily from two methods. Her first two arguments are made in the form of syllogism. For example, Ngo states Freedom of speech and expression is a natural right that we assimilated when we were born (196), and This right gives people the opportunity to speak their mind whether it s directly using your mouth or using indirect methods through poetry, music, and visual arts (196). Since graffiti would be a visual art, the argument is; if freedom of speech legally protects art, and graffiti is art, then graffiti should be legally protected. Another example of this is when she defines vandalism as Action involving deliberate destruction of or damage to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cynthia Ozick tells a deeply moving story about one woman s experience being sent to and surviving in a camp in The Shawl . Some choose to play sports, some watch tv, and others still choose to spend their time reading. Withdrawal from reality links all hobbies together. Likewise, I like to achieve this liberation by sailing. Imagine the wind gusting across your body, the smell of the strong scent of water in your nostrils, and the thrill of the wind thrusting your boat along. I was astounded when I discovered this microcosm twenty minutes away in the middle of the scorching desert. Immediately upon exiting the car, I am greeted by the familiar telltale smell of the lake. It is a combination of a fishy and algae scent that isn t overly pleasant, nevertheless, it doesn t detract from the experience. On nice windy days, I felt the wind blow through my hair and saw the telltale whitecaps forming on the water s surface. On sunny days I saw the afternoon sun make the greenish brown water glimmer majestically and reflect off of the glass in the high rise buildings. I walked to the gated boatyard adjacent to the parking lot to retrieve my boat. I walked just beyond the middle of the yard to the section where the boats for my class were stored. I picked one that appeared to be in good shape and pushed it out of the yard towards the lake. If I had luck on my side a friend would also help me with this, nonetheless, it is an easy job on the way out of the yard because the exit is sloped slightly down hill. After I removed the boat from the boatyard, The instructor would either tell me to help someone transport another boat out of the boatyard After all the boats were out and ready to be rigged, the instructor would tell the other students and me to start rigging the boats. Normally, I take about ten minutes to rig a boat myself and five with help from a friend. It is a pretty simple process and involves checking the boat for any damage, making sure the drain plug is screwed in tight, and hoisting the sails halfway up. Next, the instructor launches the boats with his truck and I rushed to the boat to prepare it to sail. I would lower the keel and rudder, raise the sails to the top of the mast. To summarise, the problem of apathy among youth comes from the youth s biology. The prevalence of negative news within the media has also become detrimental to the engagement of youth. The exposure to negative media within the news can cause teenagers to experience a large amount of emotional distress, sometimes leading to the development of post traumatic stress disorder (Pollard). As such, adolescents bombarded by negative news may become too overwhelmed by the news that they view, thus causing them to prefer escapism to activism. Thusly, as people believe that the news, though full of violence, does not exaggerate this violence, adolescents surrounded by this news may begin to feel overwhelmed by the negativity, and will stop caring. • 25. The Love Scene between George and Maire from Translations... The Love Scene between George and Maire from Translations This scene, in my opinion is the dramatic centre of Translations. The scene displays that George and Maire have fallen in love as they return from the dance together; the pair find it hard to communicate, and exhaust every method of communication before reciting place names to one another. The common language of the place names increases the tension between George and Maire until, finally, they kiss. The kiss is witnessed by Sarah who uses her new found talent of speech to tell Manus. The scene, in my view is very important as it is the catalyst for the disastrous events which follow, it leads to the disappearance of George, the search of Baile Baeg by new English ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scene subsequent to the love scene (Act 3 Scene 1) has a different premise and feeling than the fairytale love scene; it is bleak and rushed as the audience are told that George is missing, and Manus is packing up to leave implying some guilt and is evidently traumatized. Manus goes to the extent of ignoring Sarah, which as she represents Ireland, makes a big impact; he is giving up. The scene has a black mood, which contrasts with the hope the lovers shared in the previous scene. The scene has significance as it gives a romantic side to the play whilst still representing the recurrent themes. The use of place names as communication gives a magical, mythical bond between George and Maire, which draws the lovers together. Firstly, they gesture to one another, the most primitive form of communication; an example of this: (Indicating himself) George . George is telling Maire his name, which is his identity and what describes him as a person. As the pair recite their names to one another, it is as if they are allowing one another into their hearts, as a gesture of love. The pair also try to communicate in Latin, common words of one another s language and using the elements, which increase the audience s suspense as the lovers desperately, try to get their meanings across. Yes folks, I have bought into this recently resurging fad, as I have with many trendy diets, and, as I m sure many of you reading this have, as well. We are always in search of that magic pill that flips a switch in us and makes us shed our flabby shells. This diet plan, strict as it may be, is selling itself as such; I plan to try and find out why. It seems HCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin) is everywhere you turn lately; health food stores, magazine racks, your neighbors blog. If you enter it into the search engine the brand sponsored top ten lists , the many hundreds of venders and the company funded safety review sites come flooding at you by the hundreds of thousands; making an already difficult decision spiral into chaos. For those of you who are of baby boomer and older age, you may recall this being popular when you were younger. Now, to answer a nagging, yet presumably distasteful, question: yes, this is that same diet you heard of when you were younger wherein pregnant women sold their urine to doctors so they could harvest the hormone. This derivative of prego pee was then injected into hopeful masses of women looking to drop a sizeable amount of weight without having to stick their fingers down their throat or take diet pills , which were then simply over glorified, medically manufactured, fancy meth by prescription. ... But, as Gillian Tett underlines in Fool s Gold, the latest financial crisis stands out due to its sheer size . Economists estimate total losses could sum up to $2000 to $4000 billion, a number surprisingly not dissimilar to the British Gross Domestic Product. In its post mortem, the self inflicted disaster has commonly brought to light the question: Did bankers, regulators and rating agencies fail to see the flaws, or did they fail to care? Importantly, it has also created a hunt for scapegoats and quick fixes. Many Republicans and industry lobbyists have insisted that the financial meltdown would not have been nearly as bad if not for the deadly Fair Value Accounting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, during the financial crisis, the application of the accounting standards was very different, and did not demand pure FVA. Firstly, the write downs were not as apparent as they seemed. Due to the mixed attribute model, firms were allowed to choose the measurement attribute they desired for a position through how they classified the position. During the crisis, banks did indeed utilize these safeguards and discretion built into FVA on their mortgage based securities. This resulted in the re classification of many fair value assets into other categories in which weaker impairment standards were applied. Hence, most bank financial assets were valued at amortized historic costs on their balance sheets. With only trading type operations reported under fair value principles . This implies that FVA standards would have made little difference in a bank s balance sheets and regulatory capital ratios. For the same reason, written down values were also barely understatements. If anything, they were in fact overstatements as banks had the individual discretion in determining fair value. Lastly, FVA standards also allowed the use of valuation models in the calculation of fair values when markets become inactive, and stated that market prices from forced sales should not be used. Hence FVA should have mitigated contagion effects, and actually protected institutions against negative spill overs from distressed banks respectively. In a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As Midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy, we are in the developmental phase on our way to become the future leaders defined as military professionals. The military professional identity is defined differently by everyone. I believe for one to embody the military professional identity, he or she has to be a leader of character and ready to defend the nation. The four years spent at the Naval Academy gives you the opportunity to develop and mold your physical, mental, and moral stature in order to embody the military professional identity that one desires or believes is right. I believe that one s character is partially developed based on their core values. I personally embody core values such as dependability, honesty, and commitment. There are other core values that I would say are necessary in order to fit the identity as a military professional, but those three values are the ones that define me as a future leader in the military. A leader should be dependable at least. As a leader in the military, you constantly will have subordinates who are facing trials and tribulations in which they will need a leader that they can trust and depend on. That follows right into my next core value that is honesty. Being honest is the only way to really earn someone s trust. Pleasing Films for Historians and Mainstream Audiences The transition from historical information to cinema is often a dangerous and controversial road, few films are able to consistently please both historians and mainstream audiences. The topic of Sino Japanese relations and China s anti Japanese war is frequently explored in the medium of film. Films such as City of Life and Death, Norman Bethune: The Making of a Hero, Devils on the Doorstep, The Last Emperor, Nanking, Flowers of War and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness all seek to investigate this turbulent period in Chinese history and to reflect upon the many different perspectives involved. Although the medium of film can never accurately portray history or ever hope to achieve the detailed work of a scholarly source, it can provide an emotional understanding of some of the most chaotic periods of human history. The Second World War involved more than 100 million people from thirty different countries resulting in the deadliest conflict in human history. How can anyone make sense of that on paper other than listing the number of casualties? Film, deeply aware of its limitations has become a different form of understanding the past, capable of taking a particular event such as war and exploring universal themes. Do we like to hear about pain and misery and the out come of it, good or bad? Authors have used these stories since Shakespeare and Logic. Logic is an outlier because of the way he was raised. He has seen people he loves die and raped in front of him, hated by his mother enough to where she tried to kill him multiple times and how he got out of it. How he struggled without a high school diploma, the people he met and how they changed his life. He watched his sisters get raped and wasn t able to do anything. It was going down hill until 14 year old Robert met his mentor Solomon. Henry is appealing to the patriotism and emotions of his audience by mentioning things such as a question of freedom or slavery , the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country , and the very worth gentlemen who have just addressed the House . By comparing the majesty of heaven to earthly kings , Henry is appealing to ethos, or the audience s concept of ethics. The phrase freely, and without reserve is an example of parallelism. References to God are an example of allusion, as most of Henry s audience practiced Christianity. Paragraph Two The purpose of this section of the talk is to show people s desire to ignore the truth about the state of their country, and to warn against doing so. Henry is trying to show how one s default or natural response to the hardships they were facing at the hands of British rule might be to turn their head the other way. Around that time St.Nicholas Cole Abbey was disturbed during the laying of the London Underground and St.Bride s Fleet Street was struck by lightening and needed some restoration.
