Year Round Schooling Is Better Than Traditional Schooling
Year Round Schools
Versus
Traditional Schools

Task 2
Year round schooling is better than traditional schooling because, the summer retention is much
higher, special education and english language learners benefit much more, end of the year test scores
are higher and the year round school calendar fits our culture more now than it used to with the
traditional school year.
As an education major with a focus in special education, I was trying to figure out what to write and
research for this paper. Starting to look at the the topics list at the bottom was the topic Year Round
Schools. Looking at that and realizing, that sounded like a silly idea when I was a student, why would
I not want a longer summer break. However as I am an educator myself now and realize that a one or
two week break every other month sounds a like terrific idea. Then after researching the topic I
learned that not only is the schedule different but they re many more benefits to year round schools
than their traditional counterparts. Year round school research shows that their children have better
end of the year test scores. They also show that English language learner children and Special
Education children learn at a faster pace than the children at traditional schools with the same
programs. Also the summer break retention rate of what the children learn throughout the year and
then remember is much higher in year round

Symbolism In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
In the book One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey, Nurse Ratched blames McMurphy for
Bibbits suicide. This gets McMurphy so angry that in order to ensure that the patients don t feel over
powered by the combine again, he rips open Nurse Ratched s shirt then he attempts to choke her. He is
then ordered to get a lobotomy as punishment, and comes out a vegetable. In this scene Nurse Ratched
loses al her power over the patients in the hospital and McMurphy is left as a symbol of resistance.
She symbolizes the oppression and emasculation of the modern society, and dehumanization.
Throughout, the whole book she emasculates the patients and maintains her power by shaming and
implementing guilt upon the patient s. The scene exposes

Introduction
Taylor used valuable knowledge into work practice, as the appearance of scientific management, the
productivity of all the developed countries increased nearly 50 times (Zuo, 2007). In the meanwhile,
whether the scientific management is suitable for modern age has sparked much debate. Some people

However, when it comes to the spirit of innovation, it is seem that this rationalized rigidity of roles
and functions form a barrier to carry out the plan on higher level. (Marshall, 1919cite in Maqbool,
Zakariya Paracha, 2011 ). Marshall (1919) argued that the specialized engineers were controlled by
the managers and plans and they pay most attention to the operation and the immediate outcome
instead of the strategic perspectives. Secondly, Locke (1982) agreed with Taylor that money is what
the worker wants most was not entirely misguided. However, Oswald (2000) mentioned that the
reason of shopfloor recalcitrance in the form is not simply of his tropical interest. Moreover, bonus
systems grabbed the attention of human beings and lead them to be Materialistic. (Maqbool, Zakariya

employees is not uncommon. As result, Employees who are only there for the paycheck are likely to
jump ship more often than employees who actually enjoy their work (Skylergreene ,2012).Lastly, with
respect to authoritarianism, Taylor considered that the role of manager will not control by someone

Racism
Racism is a term that is often used to describe a variety of social, culture and economic problems, but
has, unfortunately, acquired so many contradictory meanings that it takes on the aura of a myth, it has
become increasingly difficult to define . Although the term wasn t officially featured in the Larousse
Dictionary until 1932, racism had been a dark cloud hanging over the global horizon for centuries (de
Benoist, 1999). Whenever there are people of different cultural and social characteristics introduced
into the mix, a recipe for racism and the hostilities it generates is created. Because racism defies a
singular definition but is usually represented by the categorizing of people according to certain
criteria, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In their zeal for prosperity, many countries have exploited lesser developed nations and their natural
resources as well as so called
inferior or primitive peoples for economic gain (Vorster, 2002).
This is how slavery and colonialism, which have too often flourished throughout history, became the
primary examples of racism or the development of the mentality that white (civilization) was right.
When this desire for wealth and the power it represented encouraged territorial expansion with a
vengeance, the enslavement of indigenous peoples throughout Africa in particular was justified until
well into the twentieth century. When Germany had suffered a staggering blow to its nationalist image
after its humiliating defeat in World War II, a crazed dictator named Adolf Hitler was able to satisfy
his lust for power and at the same time bring his vision of a supposedly superior
Aryan race eerily close to realization through genocide or the extermination of Eastern European
Jews.
The third and possibly most compelling cause of racism is collective fear (Vorster, 2002, p. 296). This
creates group solidarity particularly among minority groups and is centered around protecting their
own interests (Vorster, 2002). It is this fear that ignites feelings of prejudice, an emotional rather than
rational reaction to perceived biases (Vorster, 2002). These prejudices are formed by mistaken

John Searle
In Minds, Brains, and Programs, John Searle provided various counterarguments to the proposition
that strong artificial intelligence is similar to human cognition and that machines are able to have
similar cognitive experiences as humans, such as having intentions, as long as it has the right program.
The purpose of this article was to demonstrate opposing approaches, which outlined that the theory of
strong AI is flawed. The author did this by providing examples of how to disqualify the support for the
theoretical perspective that machines, even though they have the appropriate programming, still
cannot understand as humans do. Through various explanations and replies to the arguments, Searle
makes his point and give examples of the promises. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a common acceptance in the field and Searle addresses the flaws in the argument. Searle does a
great job in incorporating previous research and using it to support his arguments. The hypothesis is
stated in the document and his opinions to each of the responses are clearly stated and outlined in a
generalized, simple, manner. The objective was to overall, provide arguments that support that there is
another mechanism towards understanding. In the author s first argument, he states that if you give a
native English individual a set of instructions to formulate an output, then he will give you the
information once he follows the instructions. This is similar to machines in the way that they follow
computations and as a result give an output. His argument in this case suggests that although there is
indeed an output, but the individual did not understand the instruction s, rather, they simply
memorized them. This is a strong point as in both instances there is a same result, but the machine
does not have any significance to the output, thus supporting the author s

Extermination Service Research Paper
Making sure your home is free of pests is not only important for its look and function, but also for
your health, so it is essential that you learn the signs you need an extermination service. While a bug
here and there is normal, other signs are evidence that your home is at risk of a dangerous and
unhealthy infestation. Here are 3 signs you need to call an exterminator. Daytime Pests Most bugs will
only come out at night, when your home is most quiet and dark. This is a great time for these
nocturnal creatures to search for food and water, since you, your pets, and other dangers to the bugs
are not in their way. Unfortunately, seeing pests out in your home during the day can be a sign that
you have an infestation. Contacting a professional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An extermination service can inspect your home for signs of high moisture before giving you advice
on eradicating the problem. This will prevent future problems while treating existing infestations.
Droppings Inside the Home The presence of fecal matter in your home is a sure sign that you need to
hire an exterminator. These droppings are difficult to see. Since they may resemble different things,
you may not realize the dropping are fecal matter from pests. Droppings may look similar to coffee
grounds, black pepper, or small black or brown pellets. Obviously, the look of the droppings will
depend on the specific types of pests inside your home. However, your exterminator will be able to
determine what bugs or rodents are affecting your home and health by just looking at these droppings.
Preventing a pest problem is imperative for your home s look and your family s health. If you are
noticing one or more of the above signs, contact the professional extermination service in Frisco, TX,

The White Heron
Discussion Questions on The White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett
1. Think about the men, apart from the hunter, mentioned in the story? How are they characterized? Is
the absence of men from Sylvia s world (up until the arrival of the hunter) a significant factor in the
story?
Prior to meeting the hunter, it appears Sylvia was bullied/picked on by a boy who used to frighten her.
We also don t learn anything about her father, but I can infer that it wasn t a complete loving
relationship since he was not mentioned. I personally don t believe the absence of men was a
significant factor, rather the absence of human companionship besides her grandmother was a
significant factor. The presence of the hunter shows Sylvia desires human companionship, ... Show

In the beginning of the short story, we learn about Sylvia s love for nature. Nature gave her a sense of
utility the crowded manufacturing town could not offer. When she was walking home with Mistress
Moolly, the cow, they encountered a deserted cat that came to greet them. She whispered to the cat
saying, This is a beautiful place to live in, and she never should wish to go home (Page 527, para 3).
As Sylvia grows closer to the stranger she is in an inner conflict with the emotions of greed and her
love of nature. The monetary reward in revealing the heron s location gives Sylvia a temporary thrill,
as we learn from the use of third person limited point of view, No amount of thought, that night, could
decide how many wished for treasures the ten dollars, so lightly spoken of, would buy (Page 530, para
1). However, the story concludes in a relieving manner for the reader. Although, we do not know if the
hunter found the bird later on, the reader becomes alleviated by the fact the endangered bird was not
revealed at that moment. Regardless of the monetary reward, Sylvia will not betray her values about
the love for nature of which she shares with the white heron. I believe The White Heron is an example
of romanticism due to the Sylvia s connection with nature. Sylvia s is described as an animal of nature
when her grandmother states, There ain t a foot o ground she don t know her way over, and the wild
creaturs counts

Christopher s Ambiguous Viewpoints
the curious incident of the dog in the night time by Mark Haddon is about a teenager s quest to define
every entity in life to a single answer. Christopher Boone s point of view removes ambiguous
viewpoints: He confines every situation to one answer, in a way, that extends his love for his maths. If
anything s ambiguous or not controlled to a single meaning, Christopher will not respect it or
acknowledge it. Christopher s need to define is a theme, throughout the book, becoming the
motivating force behind all his actions. His life starts to change when a thing, he defines, breaks its
boundaries: an experience his mind can t grasp. For example, Christopher uses the simile My memory

because she wasn t a friend or a member of my family even if she had a dog, because I couldn t stay

sequence, Christopher immediately shifts from Mrs. Alexander s as an option to his mother to keep his
rules from breaking. Christopher goes a two whole train rides out of his way to avoid breaking his
rules. This passage also brings into focus how much he values dogs, she wasn t a friend or a member
of my family even if she had a dog , and Christopher s willingness to see a dog as a deciding factor
into where he stays holds weight into the decision to forgive his father. After all, Christopher s father
didn t just kill dog, he killed Christopher s friend: an entity he now values above his father because
dogs don t lie. Christopher encounters irony again when his father tries to bribe him for forgiveness
with a dog, the very thing that he killed to lose Christopher s trust. He only tolerates his father in his
life again is because he sees the dog as his friend just like Wellington. Before the dog, Christopher

The Change of Baseball Over the Years Essay
From the sandlot to stadiums seating over fifty thousand people, the game of baseball has provided
people of all ages with a common foundation; a sport we can all call our national pastime. Though its
concept sounds simple, a game using a ball and a bat, millions of people all over the world have
sought involvement in it by either playing at some level, or just sitting back and watching a game.
With professional baseball attracting more and more fans each season, no one knows what limits this
sport can reach. For the time being though, it has been a real home run.
Like any other sport, baseball developed over an extended period of time spanning way back to the
1600 s. The first evidence of the sport was a game called rounders, ... Show more content on

A man by the name of Alexander Cartwright, a sportsman from New York started the first organized
baseball club, the
Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York (30). Along with establishing the first baseball club, he
added a set of written rules, which are extremely parallel to the ones of today (30). Some of these
rules, stated in 1845, include, the distance between all the bases being ninety feet, and having nine
players on each side. No longer would players be plugging runners, but now they would be tagging
them with the ball. The rule of forcing a player out at a base was also introduced in 1854. Finally,
other rules changed over time such as the length of the game change to nine innings and the distance
from the pitchers found to home plate now being sixty feet. Another major landmark in the history of
baseball, the invention of the newspaper box score, occurred in 1845 as well. With all these new
advances, the game naturally began to spread across the country (32).
Not only did the famous Civil War (1861 1865) spread our nation into the north and south, but on a
positive note, it also spread the sport of baseball all over the country. As an example, the union
soldiers would play the game as a form of recreation as the rest of the union troops and even
confederate prisoners would watch (47). Something similar to a domino effect started as the prisoners
and soldiers came home from

Benefits of Organic Food
The Benefits of Organic Food Draft #1 Organic food, once only found in health food stores, is now a
consistent element at local supermarkets. So what is the difference between a conventionally grown
apple and an organic one? The answer is in the way the crop is grown and what it is and is not exposed
to.
In order to be labeled organic the farmer who grew it used renewable resources and conservation of
soil and water methods. Also, organic farmers do not use conventional pesticides or weed killers,
which may contain synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge. According to Fisher, Sewage sludge from
municipalities waste may contain heavy metals and toxins . . . (1). Rather, organic farmers use

Compacted soil can result in soil that is unable to create a run off surface. If this happens, the water
will be unable to seep into the soil and irrigate the crop. Tractors passing over soil can cause this
compaction to occur, which is why tilling is a more effective way to stir up the soil. And as a bonus,
tilling can help get rid of weeds, so it is a win win.
Pesticides and preservatives are not only harmful to human beings, but they are also harmful to our
environment and ecosystems. Pesticides used in organic farming may run off and contaminate nearby
bodies of water. If enough contaminated run off from pesticides and artificial fertilizers get into water,
it is able to poison animals and fish that live there. According to Raloff, recent studies have
demonstrated that exposure to hormones has a substantial effect on the gender and reproductive
capacity of fish, throwing off the natural cycle, (1). This is not only harmful to the animals that live
there, but if enough fish are dying because of poisoned run off, the fish industry could suffer and it
will affect humans as well. The same chemicals that poison bodies of water could seep into our
groundwater and affect the well water we drink and use daily. This does not happen with organic
farming, because no chemicals are ever sprayed on the fields and there is much more run off because
of tilling practices.
Organic farming does not only include crops. There is also organic eggs and meat produced by
livestock

Jessie Pope s Attitude toward War in the Poem Who s For...
Jessie Pope was a journalist who wrote recruitment poems for the Daily Mail during the First World
War. The poems she did write were positive propaganda poems for the war; her objective was to
stimulate patriotism in the readers so that the men would join the forces. Pope wrote a persuasive
poem where she compared war to a game. This is illustrated in the title Who s for the game? It shows
that her attitude toward war was that it was a great big event that everyone should take part in one way
or another. The title is a short and punchy question inviting anyone to answer. This gives the wrong
impression of the war, it is misleading. Pope was ridiculed for doing this, but if she did write the ...

Union organizers were dismissed and union meetings forbidden as indicated by Fossum (2012) who
writes that employers used security forces to police the workforce, forcibly kept out organizers, or
ferreted out internal union activists or sympathizers from the late 1800s to World War II (p. 196). The
fact that many US employers look down on, discourage, and blatantly combat unionization is not a
recent occurrence as successful organization thereof can result in decreased profits and inflated
personnel costs. Fossum (2012) argues that employers have long resisted attempts to unionize (p. 215)
and implemented various strategies to remain union free and greedily persist in their efforts toward
heightened profitability through utilization of unfair labor practices. Lawful Strategies for Union
Avoidance Although Hoffa and the Teamsters faced stark resistance from employers concerning
unionization, the resulting creation and evolution of employment legislation has since improved
working conditions and impacted the type of strategies implemented by employers to avoid
organization. Employers are taking more proactive and less historically barbaric approaches to address

Anita Shreve s Tulips
Author Anita Shreve once wrote to be relieved of love, was to give up a terrible burden (Goodreads
1).When people think love, they often picture it as a good thing that everyone should have in their life.
However, there is a negative aspect of love that people rarely focus on or recognize. Despite the best
intentions, over bearing loved ones can often have a devastating impact on those they worry about.
This darker aspect of love is conveyed by the speaker in the poem Tulips . The poem revolves around
a woman in a sterile hospital room with bright red tulips given to her by a loved one. By looking at the

widely unrecognized and unaccepted. When people try to come forward about the pain their family

Twelfth Night Trickster Quotes
In the play Twelfth Night , Shakespeare presents many tricksters. In fact, the majority of the characters
can somewhat be characterized as a trickster. Some characteristics that you would see in a trickster are
that they are intelligent, ambiguous, deceitful, and self serving. In the play Twelfth Night some
characters that you would classify as tricksters are Viola, Feste, Maria, Sir Toby Belch, and Sir
Andrew Aguecheek. Some tricksters are of higher class/rank while others are of lower class/servants.
In Twelfth Night , the tricksters are used to develop conflict, challenge social order, and create

An educational campaign should be launched to inform and encourage new behaviors. All consumers
should be shown the benefit of composting versus traditional disposal methods. Once consumers have
been properly educated, encouraging participation is key. This would include providing a composting
method for waste to be properly composted. The food recycling program would provide the means for
all associates to begin composting donations rather than disposing via trash receptacles. Food compost
bins should be provided in any food service industry to allow for proper disposal of waste. Companies
should locate composting facilities and begin distributing food waste to said facilities rather than
traditional trash disposal services. If possible and practical, companies should work to create their own
composting stations.
True success will be measured when all food service companies send their food materials for
composting. As output is measured, immediate improvement cannot be expected, but steady and
sustained increases in the amount of food waste sent to compost is expected. Tonnage is the most
consistent way to measure improvement.
There is also the important element of rewarding improved behaviors. Companies should provide
composting initiatives to their employees. Companies can be rewarded with government incentives for
implementation and maintenance of the composting problems.
As a case study for success, consider Middlebury College in

The Wonder Woman Feminism
During my junior year, my parents had allowed my uncle to live with us. At one point I got tired of
hearing some of the things he was saying so I got up to walk away. Immediately he got up and charged
after me shouting. I locked myself in my room and listened as he screamed to my parents that I was a
stuck up bitch who needed to learn some goddamn respect . I shouldn t be called a bitch for having my
own opinions and deciding to walk away from a situation. This idea that men are superior to women,
and women need to be submissive to them has been ingrained into our society. With the recent release
of Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, many people have called into question how well
Wonder Woman otherwise known as Diana in the movie relates to feminism, and represents a positive
image or an inspirational figure for women and young girls in today s society. One of these people is
Zoe Heller, who in turn wrote the article God s Gift to Men . While I don t believe this was meant to
be the typical inspiring feminist movie that tells women to act like ball busters . I believe that Heller
over analyzed this movie, and tried to make it into her idea of what feminism is: where women preach
about how they should be treated and how others should view themselves. Heller started off by
providing a quote from the New York Times where it stated that they would be ending a campaign to
make Wonder Woman into an inspirational figure. She then addresses Diana s costume, which the

The Issue Of Gay Marriage
Gay marriage, something that has increasingly been on the news, is talked about in chapter five.
Lambda Legal Defense eve talks about how they will enforce gay marriage through the manipulation
of the courts. The whole trend started in 1996 in Hawaii, with a ruling there saying theres no reason to
ban gay civil marriages. The biggest problem, is that this is not the job of the Supreme Court Justices
to decide, but elected representatives. In 20 years, the Supreme court has decided in two cases
addressing constitutionality of state sodomy in Bowers v. Hardwick and Lawrence v. Texas. In Romers
v. Evans, it ruled on a state constitution amendment. William F. Buckley wrote a response where in
summary he is declaring the Supreme Court has no right to be in the bedroom of Americans. Having
government involved in any personal matter is hazardous. The debate over which branch of
government gets to decide how, when, and why it can be there(Levin.73) this is saying that the
government will enforce themselves in our privacy on other issues besides gay relationships and
contraceptives. New York times ran an article talking about sodomy laws, and how they are rarely
enforced due to not being able accurately prove anything, and also the time it would take to search for
violators. In Bowers V. Hardwick an Atlanta police officer went to Hardwick s house with a warrant
for ticket violations, and found Hardwick with another man in his bedroom. Hardwick was put in jail
for 12 hours, with the

Five Precepts
Firstly when Tim arrives at the monastery, Pah Nanachat he is given an explanation about the vinaya
rules and the precepts carried out in the monastery. These rules are set by the Ajahn (head monk) to
assure the method of living with each other and have peace among each other. The Ajahn states that;
The rules we follow are the same ones the Buddha laid down in the Vinaya twenty five hundred years
ago... The monks follow two hundred and twenty seven training precepts (Ward, 17). Tim was to be
ordained as a Pakhao, the Ajahn explains the five precept and the additional three rules which he
needed to follow. The five precepts are some training rules for disciplining a person s body, speech

However, the Ajahn explains the greatest issue is the provocation to masturbate. Masturbation is an act
of sexuality and it is prohibited in the monastery and for a Buddhist Pakhao, Novice and Monk. The
only exemption is the emission of semen during dream while sleeping (Ward, 18). Intentional

Cesar Chavez Influence On Migrant Workers
Labor unions have been instrumental in the lives of workers throughout American history, and have
led to important advances in the American workforce. Throughout history there have been patterns of
exploitation of immigrant workers by businesses in order to increase profits; the Mexican migrant
workers of southern California are the most recent historical group to fall into this pattern of
exploitation mostly from their lack of organization. Cesar E. Chavez was a great organizer and leader
of the United Farm Workers labor union. Robert Kennedy referred to him as one of the heroic figures
of our time. Chavez used his life experiences in order to better the lives of many migrant workers in
America. Key points in Chavez s life that had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chavez wanted to help the community that he came from, as well as others like it. The migrant worker
community became his main focus, this resulted his creation of the UFW in 1962 (Chavez
Foundation). His earlier life as a migrant worker would be a strong influence for attaining better
working conditions for those workers. Early in Chavez s life, he was exposed to the hardships of
migrant working. When Chavez was 10 his family was forced from their home in Yuma, Arizona
because of back taxes and because of the depression, his family couldn t pay the payments (Castillo
and Garcia, 7). Chavez began migrant work when he was 14, and the injustices had a memorable
effect. Migrant workers were often exploited because of their lack of organization in a uniform union
group, something that Chavez would eventually change. In future years the UFW would give migrant
workers a voice in the conditions under which they were living and working. Strikes, boycotts, and
other nonviolent protests were essential to the UFW s ability to attain advancements in the Mexican
American workplace. Though strikes previous to 1964 were often unsuccessful because of the Bracero
program that was implemented by both the United States and Mexican governments. Farm owners
encouraged this program because of labor shortages during wartime, but by the 1950 s the Bracero
workers were being used to undercut wages and break strikes by the migrant workers. This caused

How Does A Horse See The World, By Herschel B.
With the advent of Modernism in the early twentieth century, many artists and critics began making
theoretical pronouncements about their works and ideas. Using three different artists and their writings
from the Theories of Modern Art book by Herschel B. Chipp. I will study the artist s works and ideas
in relation to the role of art in their society, the role of traditional practices in art, their view on nature
versus reality, and their view on the relationship between art and truth. The three artists and works will
be the Fauvist Henri Matisse s Notes of a Painter, the German Expressionist Franz Marc s How Does a
Horse See the World? as well as Aphorism, and lastly the Dadaist Jean Arp s, Abstract Art, Concrete

Truth is always on the move. It is always somewhere, but never in the foreground, never on the
surface. Unlike Matisse, who talked about truths as challenges, Marc seems a little lost about truth in
artwork or maybe that was simply how he felt at that time. Marc s words conveyed an elusive quality
to truth, that they cannot be seen or touched so easily as Matisse implied. I think this elusiveness is
best symbolized in his Stables. In Abstract Art, Concrete Art, page 390, Jean Arp expressed his idea of
a main truth, that artists do not want to copy nature but produce it. That they wish to create their own
art directly and not have to interpret it from nature. As I was reading it felt like Arp had a good
understanding of what he believed to be the important truths in art and he continually strived to create
artwork that conveyed those ideas, as can be seen in his Birds in an

Efficient Wireless Power Transfer Through Magnetic...
Imagine a situation where no electrical device has to be plugged into a wall. In this case, a laptop or
cell phone can charge itself easily and seamlessly just by being placing inside a room. This is the
ability of many experimental wireless power devices that will be adapted to domestic use in the future.
Today, the prevailing methods of energy transfer are wires and batteries. Wired connections are
perhaps the most common. With this energy transfer method, energy is delivered from a power plant
to a home. In the case of batteries, energy is stored as chemical energy in the battery cell. Once it is
needed, the chemical energy can be released as electrical energy. However, both these methods have
flaws. Both suffer from mild inefficiency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process eliminates the use of wires between the transmitter and receiver therefore making it
wireless. For example, solar power is essentially radiative wireless energy transfer. The sun is the
transmitter, the photovoltaic solar cell is the receiver, and the sunlight is a high frequency
electromagnetic wave (Little et al.). The process can be adapted for everyday use if electricity is
transformed into light by a light source and then absorbed by a photocell that transforms the light back
into electricity. However, due to issues with efficiency, this application will never be practical unless a
more efficient solar cell is developed. Of course, the efficiency can be increased if a focused beam of
light is used instead, but this still lags far behind compared to the efficiency of a standard wired
connection. For home use, this method is impractical, but in other fields, its advantages outweigh its
disadvantages.
Radiative energy transfer has many advantages and disadvantages. A distinct disadvantage that makes
this method impractical for home use is that the transfer can affect other objects and requires that no
object blocks the space between the receiver and transmitter (Kurs et al.). With this in mind, there are
a number of things to be concerned about. First, it requires that no object blocks the line of sight
between the receiver and the transmitter. Second, efficiency is

The Youth Justice System in Europe Essay examples
In my view the youth justice system should be dealt in a better way with few amendments. This will
not imply that the young children mischievous acts won t be dealt without any response. There are
many various ways that can be dealt, like transfer of resources to children services, various forms of
provisions and some special staff to deal with adolescents. The extensive and unfortunate scaling back
of youth service over recent years has led to a loss of such expertise.
The age of criminal responsibility in England and Wales is 10 years .In other terms we can also say

The increase of age of responsibility was supported by National Association for Youth Justice (NAYJ).
The NAYJ believed that by not increasing the age of responsibility it will demonstrate criminalization
of children at such an early stage. They say that it is against the international standard of children
rights. The Beijing rules, say that the minimum standard for the administration of juvenile justice,
should not be too low, bearing in mind the facts of emotional, mental and intellectual maturity.
Scotland has a different age of criminal responsibility that is 8 years, but children cannot be
prosecuted below the age of 12 years. United Nations Committee on the rights of child constituted a
more different view on internationally accepted minimum age in 2007. It is stated that State parties are
encouraged to increase the minimum age of criminal responsibility to the age of 12 years as absolute
minimum age.
Doctrine of doli incapax was their earlier to protect the younger children. It generally required the
prosecution to add evidence that not only the young offender had committed the crime and it was just

How Did Roman Civilization Impact The World
What civilization was the greatest of all time and had the most impact on the world? The Roman
civilization of course. The people in Rome got involved in many ways during the time of 27 BC to
476 AD. While there were many ways to get involved in the Roman Empire the three most important
ways were military, sports, and architecture. The Romans had many great techniques and ways to take
down their opponents, they would train boys so they could be great warriors when they got older
(Baker Baker, 1998). The Romans played many sports to entertain and to get involved in one of those
sports being chariot racing, this sport consisted of at least two people on a horse and carriage running
around a track. This sport attracted a lot of spectators because sometimes there would be cheating
against the rules but they weren t that strict. The Romans had the greatest architecture of all time and
they are the main reason our architecture is so advanced today, they had great domes and the Romans

Productivity Improvement in Srew Type Biomass Briquetting
In spite of very good potential for using biomass as a renewable source of energy the practice is in
very early stage and limping. There are many factors which contribute their parts in making the
process unsuccessful. The major ones are seasonality of the raw materials, shortfalls in logistics,
absence of proved manufacturing systems, lack of skilled workers and very many technical factors.
Considering technical factors for the screw type of briquetting the biomass, the life of the screw and

highest chance of improving the total productivity. A successful process of producing quality

To produce low ash, high Btu briquettes form coal fine and timber wastes research works were done in
the University of Kentucky. More than 70 million tons of coal fines are dumped at the abandoned site
near the Appalachian coal fields. Combining the coal fine with the wastes from nearby timber
industries briquettes were made and tested for various parameters. It was concluded that the briquettes
were of premium quality and that offers near term practical solutions to generate green energy
utilizing existing equipments [1]. There are works going on in designing energy management methods
in biomass applications, as at least 15% of energy is wasted in drying the biomass before using in
boilers or any other heating system. The typical moisture content of biomass varies from 50% to 63%
by weight in most of the situations including the seasons and types of biomass. A low initial moisture
level could utilize most of the energy released during combustion and it will make larger boiler
unnecessary. Utilizing exhaust gases to preheat the input biomass to a lower level of moisture can
conserve the energy significantly [3]. Though briquetting of biomass as a green fuel is a necessary
solution, the primary importance of any biomass should be for feeding animals. In Mexico the
excesses residues of corn, sugarcane, sorghum and wheat are briquetted and sent to livestock growing
regions to handle dry seasons. There were other advantages like homogeneous

The purpose of this essay is to discuss a clinical skill or nursing action by referring to the nursing and
allied health literature to explain and support evidence based practice. The skill I wish to examine is
the practice of oral hygiene for adults with dementia in residential aged care facilities. In this essay I
aim to provide the reader with adequate references to support the best practice for oral hygiene for
people with dementia.

Another assessment tool is the Oral Health Assessment tool and is a condensed alteration of the
BOHSE. It can be completed before implementing an individualized oral hygiene care plan.
Completing this assessment will help the health care professional assess the patients current oral status
and factors, which can contribute to their risk for oral disease. This makes it possible to put into
practice the most appropriate care, plan for the residents needs. There is only a small amount of
literature providing quality evidence based on the use of a successful oral health assessment tool for
people with dementia (JBI, 2004). There is no published evidence to this date that has directly linked
the use of the assessment tool and the standard of oral hygiene and care given within residential aged
care facilities (JBI, 2004). For successful assessment of the residents with dementia the assessment
should be undertaken by trained staff and on admission the assessment should also involve a dentist
(JBI, 2004). Assessment should be done on a regular basis, at least every 8 weeks (JBI, 2004).
Research has shown that staff training in oral hygiene and the use of an individualised Oral Hygiene
Care Plan is beneficial to the resident and also the nurse and will allow appropriate care (National
Guideline Clearing house [NGC], 2003).

Pros Of Vaccines
Vaccines are a revolutionary form of technology that save lives, lessen child mortality rates, and
strengthen child immunity. Vaccination technology has become sophisticated since the knowhow of
inoculation was first presented. Death resulting diseases are nearly eradicated in first world countries.
Herd immunity is a bonus to the aftermath of immunization, offering another level of protection
against disease. Though the potential side effects of vaccines cause concern for some, the benefits of
this medication knowledge outweigh the rare potential dangers. Vaccinations are a key development
towards survival and the eradication of fatal disease.

Lisa Estall expressed her uncertainty and concerns about vaccinating her year old daughter. Every
where I go, someone s talking about the danger of vaccines, ... I can t help but wonder: Should I really
be injecting a healthy child with these things? (Vaccines: The Reality Behind the Debate). As all new
parents will eventually go through, whether to vaccinate their children or not is a valid concern created
from uncertainty of the pros and cons of immunization. The chemicals used in vaccines are harmless
with a low dosage of active ingredients. It is unlikely for individuals to get seriously sick following a
vaccination. Though an allergic reaction may occur, the probability of a serious negative reaction is
approximately 1/2,000,000 doses of vaccine (Vaccine ingredients). Another concern is the
misconception that vaccines are a direct cause for cognitive disabilities such as autism. Autism is
considered to be a mental condition that becomes present in early childhood and may make it harder
for the individual to communicate or connect with other people. Symptoms of autism becomes most
obvious between 2 and 3 years of age, however can sometimes be diagnosed as early as 18 months.
(What Is Autism? ) The hype that certain vaccines will result in the child developing autism due to a
chemical known as thimerosal is the subject of outdated information. This specific chemical is no
longer in use and therefore vaccines pose no genuine risk to the mental capacity of children. As well,
studies have been conducted in Denmark, US and Canada between 1991 1998 determining that
vaccination does not have a direct relationship with the development of autism (Autism). Herd
immunity is a beneficial side effect of immunization. When a critical portion of a community is
immunized against a contagious disease, most members of the community are protected against that

Personal Objectives Of A Portfolio
Introduction
As an investor looking toward retirement, my goals is to have a well diversified portfolio. While
$100,000 may be allocated solely to mutual funds in this scenario, in the future, I would hope to
include some property as part of my overall portfolio. The goal is to seek mutual funds which are
stable in nature, considered stable, and may have some risk involved. While risk is an adverse subject
for some, I believe that taking on some or half of a risky portfolio and mixing the riskier funds with a
portion of less risky funds, the portfolio would perform to my liking. From the beginning, I knew I
was going to be selecting sector based funds, as it is easier to develop a thought process that s based
from instinct.
Personal Objectives
As a person that studies economics, I want to invest in funds that support companies that will
potentially boost our economy. Additionally, the strategy I took on was based on trends and common
knowledge. Technology is known to have longer term effects on economic expansion, parallel, my
mutual fund is set for 30 years. Therefore, I felt it important to support and investigate funds that were
heavily weighted with technological company stocks, such as Apple, Google, Facebook, Qualcomm,
etc. Technology is the face of our future because as soon as you buy it something better always comes
out the next day.

  • 2. Year Round Schooling Is Better Than Traditional Schooling Year Round Schools Versus Traditional Schools By: Shaun Herman Shaun Herman 4/11/2016 Task 2 Year round schooling is better than traditional schooling because, the summer retention is much higher, special education and english language learners benefit much more, end of the year test scores are higher and the year round school calendar fits our culture more now than it used to with the traditional school year. As an education major with a focus in special education, I was trying to figure out what to write and research for this paper. Starting to look at the the topics list at the bottom was the topic Year Round Schools. Looking at that and realizing, that sounded like a silly idea when I was a student, why would I not want a longer summer break. However as I am an educator myself now and realize that a one or two week break every other month sounds a like terrific idea. Then after researching the topic I learned that not only is the schedule different but they re many more benefits to year round schools than their traditional counterparts. Year round school research shows that their children have better end of the year test scores. They also show that English language learner children and Special Education children learn at a faster pace than the children at traditional schools with the same programs. Also the summer break retention rate of what the children learn throughout the year and then remember is much higher in year round ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, when it comes to the spirit of innovation, it is seem that this rationalized rigidity of roles and functions form a barrier to carry out the plan on higher level. (Marshall, 1919cite in Maqbool, Zakariya Paracha, 2011 ). Marshall (1919) argued that the specialized engineers were controlled by the managers and plans and they pay most attention to the operation and the immediate outcome instead of the strategic perspectives. Secondly, Locke (1982) agreed with Taylor that money is what the worker wants most was not entirely misguided. However, Oswald (2000) mentioned that the reason of shopfloor recalcitrance in the form is not simply of his tropical interest. Moreover, bonus systems grabbed the attention of human beings and lead them to be Materialistic. (Maqbool, Zakariya Paracha, 2011cited in Florence, 1924)Therefore, the problem about job hopping of competent employees is not uncommon. As result, Employees who are only there for the paycheck are likely to jump ship more often than employees who actually enjoy their work (Skylergreene ,2012).Lastly, with respect to authoritarianism, Taylor considered that the role of manager will not control by someone who is uneducated, unskilled that the Taylor ... • 5. Racism Racism is a term that is often used to describe a variety of social, culture and economic problems, but has, unfortunately, acquired so many contradictory meanings that it takes on the aura of a myth, it has become increasingly difficult to define . Although the term wasn t officially featured in the Larousse Dictionary until 1932, racism had been a dark cloud hanging over the global horizon for centuries (de Benoist, 1999). Whenever there are people of different cultural and social characteristics introduced into the mix, a recipe for racism and the hostilities it generates is created. Because racism defies a singular definition but is usually represented by the categorizing of people according to certain criteria, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In their zeal for prosperity, many countries have exploited lesser developed nations and their natural resources as well as so called inferior or primitive peoples for economic gain (Vorster, 2002). This is how slavery and colonialism, which have too often flourished throughout history, became the primary examples of racism or the development of the mentality that white (civilization) was right. When this desire for wealth and the power it represented encouraged territorial expansion with a vengeance, the enslavement of indigenous peoples throughout Africa in particular was justified until well into the twentieth century. When Germany had suffered a staggering blow to its nationalist image after its humiliating defeat in World War II, a crazed dictator named Adolf Hitler was able to satisfy his lust for power and at the same time bring his vision of a supposedly superior Aryan race eerily close to realization through genocide or the extermination of Eastern European Jews. The third and possibly most compelling cause of racism is collective fear (Vorster, 2002, p. 296). This creates group solidarity particularly among minority groups and is centered around protecting their own interests (Vorster, 2002). It is this fear that ignites feelings of prejudice, an emotional rather than rational reaction to perceived biases (Vorster, 2002). These prejudices are formed by mistaken ... • 6. John Searle In Minds, Brains, and Programs, John Searle provided various counterarguments to the proposition that strong artificial intelligence is similar to human cognition and that machines are able to have similar cognitive experiences as humans, such as having intentions, as long as it has the right program. The purpose of this article was to demonstrate opposing approaches, which outlined that the theory of strong AI is flawed. The author did this by providing examples of how to disqualify the support for the theoretical perspective that machines, even though they have the appropriate programming, still cannot understand as humans do. Through various explanations and replies to the arguments, Searle makes his point and give examples of the promises. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a common acceptance in the field and Searle addresses the flaws in the argument. Searle does a great job in incorporating previous research and using it to support his arguments. The hypothesis is stated in the document and his opinions to each of the responses are clearly stated and outlined in a generalized, simple, manner. The objective was to overall, provide arguments that support that there is another mechanism towards understanding. In the author s first argument, he states that if you give a native English individual a set of instructions to formulate an output, then he will give you the information once he follows the instructions. This is similar to machines in the way that they follow computations and as a result give an output. His argument in this case suggests that although there is indeed an output, but the individual did not understand the instruction s, rather, they simply memorized them. This is a strong point as in both instances there is a same result, but the machine does not have any significance to the output, thus supporting the author s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Extermination Service Research Paper Making sure your home is free of pests is not only important for its look and function, but also for your health, so it is essential that you learn the signs you need an extermination service. While a bug here and there is normal, other signs are evidence that your home is at risk of a dangerous and unhealthy infestation. Here are 3 signs you need to call an exterminator. Daytime Pests Most bugs will only come out at night, when your home is most quiet and dark. This is a great time for these nocturnal creatures to search for food and water, since you, your pets, and other dangers to the bugs are not in their way. Unfortunately, seeing pests out in your home during the day can be a sign that you have an infestation. Contacting a professional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An extermination service can inspect your home for signs of high moisture before giving you advice on eradicating the problem. This will prevent future problems while treating existing infestations. Droppings Inside the Home The presence of fecal matter in your home is a sure sign that you need to hire an exterminator. These droppings are difficult to see. Since they may resemble different things, you may not realize the dropping are fecal matter from pests. Droppings may look similar to coffee grounds, black pepper, or small black or brown pellets. Obviously, the look of the droppings will depend on the specific types of pests inside your home. However, your exterminator will be able to determine what bugs or rodents are affecting your home and health by just looking at these droppings. Preventing a pest problem is imperative for your home s look and your family s health. • 8. The White Heron Discussion Questions on The White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett 1. Think about the men, apart from the hunter, mentioned in the story? How are they characterized? Is the absence of men from Sylvia s world (up until the arrival of the hunter) a significant factor in the story? Prior to meeting the hunter, it appears Sylvia was bullied/picked on by a boy who used to frighten her. We also don t learn anything about her father, but I can infer that it wasn t a complete loving relationship since he was not mentioned. I personally don t believe the absence of men was a significant factor, rather the absence of human companionship besides her grandmother was a significant factor. The presence of the hunter shows Sylvia desires human companionship, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of the short story, we learn about Sylvia s love for nature. Nature gave her a sense of utility the crowded manufacturing town could not offer. When she was walking home with Mistress Moolly, the cow, they encountered a deserted cat that came to greet them. She whispered to the cat saying, This is a beautiful place to live in, and she never should wish to go home (Page 527, para 3). As Sylvia grows closer to the stranger she is in an inner conflict with the emotions of greed and her love of nature. The monetary reward in revealing the heron s location gives Sylvia a temporary thrill, as we learn from the use of third person limited point of view, No amount of thought, that night, could decide how many wished for treasures the ten dollars, so lightly spoken of, would buy (Page 530, para 1). However, the story concludes in a relieving manner for the reader. Although, we do not know if the hunter found the bird later on, the reader becomes alleviated by the fact the endangered bird was not revealed at that moment. Regardless of the monetary reward, Sylvia will not betray her values about the love for nature of which she shares with the white heron. I believe The White Heron is an example of romanticism due to the Sylvia s connection with nature. Sylvia s is described as an animal of nature when her grandmother states, There ain t a foot o ground she don t know her way over, and the wild creaturs counts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Christopher s Ambiguous Viewpoints the curious incident of the dog in the night time by Mark Haddon is about a teenager s quest to define every entity in life to a single answer. Christopher Boone s point of view removes ambiguous viewpoints: He confines every situation to one answer, in a way, that extends his love for his maths. If anything s ambiguous or not controlled to a single meaning, Christopher will not respect it or acknowledge it. Christopher s need to define is a theme, throughout the book, becoming the motivating force behind all his actions. His life starts to change when a thing, he defines, breaks its boundaries: an experience his mind can t grasp. In this sequence, Christopher immediately shifts from Mrs. Alexander s as an option to his mother to keep his rules from breaking. Christopher goes a two whole train rides out of his way to avoid breaking his rules. This passage also brings into focus how much he values dogs, she wasn t a friend or a member of my family even if she had a dog , and Christopher s willingness to see a dog as a deciding factor into where he stays holds weight into the decision to forgive his father. After all, Christopher s father didn t just kill dog, he killed Christopher s friend: an entity he now values above his father because dogs don t lie. The Change of Baseball Over the Years Essay From the sandlot to stadiums seating over fifty thousand people, the game of baseball has provided people of all ages with a common foundation; a sport we can all call our national pastime. Though its concept sounds simple, a game using a ball and a bat, millions of people all over the world have sought involvement in it by either playing at some level, or just sitting back and watching a game. With professional baseball attracting more and more fans each season, no one knows what limits this sport can reach. For the time being though, it has been a real home run. Like any other sport, baseball developed over an extended period of time spanning way back to the 1600 s. The first evidence of the sport was a game called rounders, ... A man by the name of Alexander Cartwright, a sportsman from New York started the first organized baseball club, the Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York (30). Along with establishing the first baseball club, he added a set of written rules, which are extremely parallel to the ones of today (30). Some of these rules, stated in 1845, include, the distance between all the bases being ninety feet, and having nine players on each side. No longer would players be plugging runners, but now they would be tagging them with the ball. The rule of forcing a player out at a base was also introduced in 1854. Finally, other rules changed over time such as the length of the game change to nine innings and the distance from the pitchers found to home plate now being sixty feet. Another major landmark in the history of baseball, the invention of the newspaper box score, occurred in 1845 as well. With all these new advances, the game naturally began to spread across the country (32). Not only did the famous Civil War (1861 1865) spread our nation into the north and south, but on a positive note, it also spread the sport of baseball all over the country. As an example, the union soldiers would play the game as a form of recreation as the rest of the union troops and even confederate prisoners would watch (47). So what is the difference between a conventionally grown apple and an organic one? The answer is in the way the crop is grown and what it is and is not exposed to. In order to be labeled organic the farmer who grew it used renewable resources and conservation of soil and water methods. Also, organic farmers do not use conventional pesticides or weed killers, which may contain synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge. If this happens, the water will be unable to seep into the soil and irrigate the crop. Tractors passing over soil can cause this compaction to occur, which is why tilling is a more effective way to stir up the soil. And as a bonus, tilling can help get rid of weeds, so it is a win win. Pesticides and preservatives are not only harmful to human beings, but they are also harmful to our environment and ecosystems. Pesticides used in organic farming may run off and contaminate nearby bodies of water. If enough contaminated run off from pesticides and artificial fertilizers get into water, it is able to poison animals and fish that live there. According to Raloff, recent studies have demonstrated that exposure to hormones has a substantial effect on the gender and reproductive capacity of fish, throwing off the natural cycle, (1). This is not only harmful to the animals that live there, but if enough fish are dying because of poisoned run off, the fish industry could suffer and it will affect humans as well. The same chemicals that poison bodies of water could seep into our groundwater and affect the well water we drink and use daily. The poems she did write were positive propaganda poems for the war; her objective was to stimulate patriotism in the readers so that the men would join the forces. Pope wrote a persuasive poem where she compared war to a game. This is illustrated in the title Who s for the game? It shows that her attitude toward war was that it was a great big event that everyone should take part in one way or another. The title is a short and punchy question inviting anyone to answer. Food compost bins should be provided in any food service industry to allow for proper disposal of waste. In this case, a laptop or cell phone can charge itself easily and seamlessly just by being placing inside a room. This is the ability of many experimental wireless power devices that will be adapted to domestic use in the future. Today, the prevailing methods of energy transfer are wires and batteries. Wired connections are perhaps the most common. With this energy transfer method, energy is delivered from a power plant to a home. In the case of batteries, energy is stored as chemical energy in the battery cell. Once it is needed, the chemical energy can be released as electrical energy. However, both these methods have flaws. Both suffer from mild inefficiency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process eliminates the use of wires between the transmitter and receiver therefore making it wireless. For example, solar power is essentially radiative wireless energy transfer. The sun is the transmitter, the photovoltaic solar cell is the receiver, and the sunlight is a high frequency electromagnetic wave (Little et al.). The process can be adapted for everyday use if electricity is transformed into light by a light source and then absorbed by a photocell that transforms the light back into electricity. However, due to issues with efficiency, this application will never be practical unless a more efficient solar cell is developed. Of course, the efficiency can be increased if a focused beam of light is used instead, but this still lags far behind compared to the efficiency of a standard wired connection. For home use, this method is impractical, but in other fields, its advantages outweigh its disadvantages. Radiative energy transfer has many advantages and disadvantages. A distinct disadvantage that makes this method impractical for home use is that the transfer can affect other objects and requires that no object blocks the space between the receiver and transmitter (Kurs et al.). To produce low ash, high Btu briquettes form coal fine and timber wastes research works were done in the University of Kentucky. More than 70 million tons of coal fines are dumped at the abandoned site near the Appalachian coal fields. Combining the coal fine with the wastes from nearby timber industries briquettes were made and tested for various parameters. It was concluded that the briquettes were of premium quality and that offers near term practical solutions to generate green energy utilizing existing equipments [1]. There are works going on in designing energy management methods in biomass applications, as at least 15% of energy is wasted in drying the biomass before using in boilers or any other heating system. The typical moisture content of biomass varies from 50% to 63% by weight in most of the situations including the seasons and types of biomass. A low initial moisture level could utilize most of the energy released during combustion and it will make larger boiler unnecessary. Utilizing exhaust gases to preheat the input biomass to a lower level of moisture can conserve the energy significantly [3]. Though briquetting of biomass as a green fuel is a necessary solution, the primary importance of any biomass should be for feeding animals. In Mexico the excesses residues of corn, sugarcane, sorghum and wheat are briquetted and sent to livestock growing regions to handle dry seasons. There were other advantages like homogeneous ... There is no published evidence to this date that has directly linked the use of the assessment tool and the standard of oral hygiene and care given within residential aged care facilities (JBI, 2004). For successful assessment of the residents with dementia the assessment should be undertaken by trained staff and on admission the assessment should also involve a dentist (JBI, 2004). (Vaccines: The Reality Behind the Debate). As all new parents will eventually go through, whether to vaccinate their children or not is a valid concern created from uncertainty of the pros and cons of immunization. The chemicals used in vaccines are harmless with a low dosage of active ingredients. It is unlikely for individuals to get seriously sick following a vaccination. Though an allergic reaction may occur, the probability of a serious negative reaction is approximately 1/2,000,000 doses of vaccine (Vaccine ingredients). Another concern is the misconception that vaccines are a direct cause for cognitive disabilities such as autism. Autism is considered to be a mental condition that becomes present in early childhood and may make it harder for the individual to communicate or connect with other people. Symptoms of autism becomes most obvious between 2 and 3 years of age, however can sometimes be diagnosed as early as 18 months. (What Is Autism? ) The hype that certain vaccines will result in the child developing autism due to a chemical known as thimerosal is the subject of outdated information. This specific chemical is no longer in use and therefore vaccines pose no genuine risk to the mental capacity of children. As well, studies have been conducted in Denmark, US and Canada between 1991 1998 determining that vaccination does not have a direct relationship with the development of autism (Autism).
