Overview of Insider Trading
Introduction On June 4, 2003, the Securities Exchange Commission announced that it was
pursuing charges against investor Martha Stewart and stock broker Peter Bacanovic for
securities fraud. The fraud occurred on December 27, 2001 when Stewart sold stock in ImClone
Systems, after receiving an unlawful tip from Bacanovic, who at the time was working for
Merrill Lynch. The SEC also accused the two of attempting to cover up the insider actions, and
of making false statements regarding the ImClone trades to SEC investigators (SEC, 2003).
Stephen Cutler, the SEC director of enforcement said in the SEC s press release about the
charges that It is fundamentally unfair for someone to have an edge on the market just because
she has a stockbroker who is willing to break the rules and give her an illegal tip. It s worse still
when the individual engaging in the insider trading is the Chairman and CEO of a public company.
This statement and the philosophy behind it is a central part in the debate about the merits, not so
much about the case against Stewart but against the prosecution of Stewart. The SEC sought
redress not only in the form of monetary penalties and prison time, but it also sought to have
Stewart removed from a position as officer of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (SEC, 2003). The
Case ImClone was a relatively small pharmaceutical firm. At the time of the offense, ImClone was
awaiting a decision from the Food and Drug Administration regarding the status of Erbitux,

Euthyphro
Main question of the Dialogue
The main question of this dialogue is the definition of the word holy or piety. Euthyphro brags that
he is more knowledgeable than his father on matters relating to religion. In this case, Socrates
suggests to Euthyphro to define that term. The first definition fails to satisfy Socrates because of its
limitation in application. Apparently, Socrates perceives this definitionas an example rather than a
definition. Subsequent arguments and line of questioning lead to five sets of definitions that are
refined to find the general definition. Socrates expects that the acceptable general definition of the
question will act as a reference point in his defense.
Problems with Euthyphro s initial definition
According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, the argument would imply that the justification is both holy and unholy, which is
rationally impractical.
What Socrates uses to Combat Euthyphro s Conceptions of holiness
At the core of Socrates argument is the need to break down the definition of holiness into smaller
coherent characteristics. Socrates uses a series of question that are consistent with Euthyphro s
argument to ensure that he [Euthyphro] offers a consistent flow of definitions of the word holy.
Euthyphro accepts these ideas because he offers different definitions that are in line with the
clarified ideations. Socrates uses basic philosophical question What is holy? , which leads to a
myriad of definitions with different characteristics. Euthyphro sums up all these characteristics in
the final definition.
Euthyphro s problem is that he is trying to show his prowess among social and philosophical elite
by proving his father to be impious. His ego coupled with his father s flattery obscures Euthyphro
from developing concrete definitions.
Deeper (Philosophical) Point of Justice
Socrates point on justice is that everything that is termed just ought to be entirely holy. On the other
hand, not everything that is deemed holy is just. However, the term just is used interchangeably
with the term morally good. I think Socrates point is to find enough proof to support any premise
beyond reasonable doubt.

Viva La Vida And The Count Of Monte Cristo
While each piece of literature is completely different, some of them have similar patterns and
ideas. One of these ideas would be human nature. Human nature is anything that is natural for a
human to do and can not be stopped easily. Things like greed and too much power can change
someone greatly. This can be the cause of many problems and can make someone who is a good
person into a bad person. In Viva La Vidaand The Count of Monte Cristo, the writers use of
allusions and metaphors convey the idea that human nature can be the cause of misfortune.
The story of Viva La Vida, by Coldplay, is about a king who has too much power and ends up
being overthrown from people in his kingdom. Coldplay expresses this story in metaphors.
I used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This king had the key to the castle, meaning that he knew what the people wanted. The way
Coldplay explains this story makes it seem like the people living in the king s castle turned on
him, hence the reference to the walls closing in on himself. This king must have been hated for
something he did, then again, every human makes mistakes. Although, this must not have been
the first time because he lost his whole castle just from a mistake. Then he starts to realize why
he was wrong. The downfall of this king could have been from bragging about his power too
much since it is human nature to brag. Or possibly being overwhelmed with too much power
giving his enemies a chance to attack. Another metaphor with the same meaning can be found in
The Count of Monte Cristo. The same thing that happened to Brutus the night before the Battle
of Philippi: I saw a ghost. And that ghost told me I have lived long enough (Dumas 381). At this
moment in the story, the count is preparing for his duel with Albert. He then tells Maximilien
that he plans on dying during the duel and leaving Maximilien his will. Maximilien is shocked
and asks the count why he would ever do such a thing. The count responds with the above quote.
This quote is a metaphor and shows how it is in a human s nature to want to forget the people
who you don t like. This quote uses the example of Mercedes since she was the ghost that came
to Dantes the night before the duel and begged him not to kill her son. Dantes responds by saying
that he can not live with the dishonor of backing away from a duel, so he agreed to let Albert

Liturgical Dance In Modern Times

RESEARCH PAPER
Liturgical Dance (Ancient Times to the Modern Times)
In the world that we live in today there are many things that has been passed down from year to
year. In the years such as 1400 and 1440 B.C. dancing in which we refer to now as liturgical
dancing was first introduced. Liturgical dance has as its purpose the deepening and focusing of the
worship experience; it is not merely ornamental or decorative. (Branigan). Liturgical dance is a
very uplifting form of art; starting from the biblical times and even up until now. The history of
liturgical dance begins in the Bible. The Bible doesn t mention much about dance. But, it does
mention dances of celebration during two important historical events. The first event was the
crossing of the Red Sea. Miriam, prophetess and sister of Moses brought together several women
in song and in praise after the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea (Exodus 15:20, 21). The
second event occurs when David brings back the arc of the covenant to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6).
Both major events showed the significance of praise dancing in rejoicing and thankfulness for what
the Lord have done, even for your triumphs. (DavenPort). Although the times has changed, the style
of liturgical dancing has changed in some ways, but has also remained the same in other ways.
There are many different attributes that allows this form of art to be so uplifting. The types of
attributes that causes this type of dance

Family Story And Origin Of A New Environment
Every family story and origin is unique to the members of the immediate group, while including
the traditions passed from generation to generation. From the scent of their house and clothes,
special holidays, vacation spots, memories, what they eat and how it is served; all of these
elements of life are distinct to a family. These elements are incorporated into what is viewed as
normal life in a way that we don t see how our lives differ from those around us, until we are faced
with a situation where things are done differently than us. Many families contain multi cultural
backgrounds, therefore providing generations with traditions that include folklore from different
origins. One of the biggest elements of culture how dishes are served and prepared. If you ever
travel, one of the biggest attractions to a new environment is the foodthat is served in that area.
Some food traditions are difficult to explain and don t make sense to outsiders, but to the family
or local group it is a sense of definition and unity through foodways. In Louisiana especially, with
Cajun culture, we see many festivals and events that are food based, and the pride in the locals
that serve it. My family, all born and raised in the South, participate in the spicy food, crawfish
boils, jambalaya sales, gumbocooking events that this culture offers. From a young age I can
remember waking up on a Saturday morning in the fall, feeling the crisp air flow through the house

Argumentative Essay On Amy Winehouse
The story of Amy winehouse captures the pressure of life at where there is no curtain to hide
behind for closure. She was a local jazz singer who appreciate the art of music in its natural state.
Being an authentic artist she prefered the smaller performances so that she can have a dialogue
with her audience. She was a mastermind at her craft and new exactly how things needed to
sound like and what instruments she needed to obtain that substance. Growing up she always
had freedom to do what she wanted because she had emotional leverage over her mom, her mother
allowed her to do as she wanted because she did not attain the power to say no. Early in amy s
childhood she was able to have boys over at a young age, drinkalcohol, smoke weed and all her
friends thought that was cool. She never realized growing up that she was battling depression, she
always thought that was normal for a teen growing up but she considered herself lucky because she
had an outlet, that was singing. Amy ones told her mom that she could eat anything she wanted
because later she would throw it up, nobody thought anything of it earlier but over time they seen
how that affected her life. Bulimia nervosais a serious, potentially life threatening eating disorder
characterized by a cycle of binging and compensatory behaviors such as self induced vomiting
designed to undo or compensate for the effects of binge eating (Overview and Statistics).

The Corruption Of Cairns Police
Few doubted the endemic corruption of Cairns police in the early years of the 20th century, with
the local cops so notoriously crooked even newspapers in far off Brisbane reported on their
transgressions.
When solicitor Percy Le Vaux represented property owner Peter Lumberg in an action against a
watch house constable for filching his watch during Lumberg s overnight incarceration, the
Brisbane Truth saw light at the end of the tunnel, believing this spark would ignite the fire that
brought the entire criminal edifice tumbling down. So it has come, at last, announced the paper.
However, a magistrate dismissed the case, and nothing changed.
Undeterred, Truth continued to publish veiled allegations that the police took bribes from criminal
overlords whose Sachs St enterprises included illegal gambling, sly grog shops, opium dens and
whore houses. Consequently, intent on quietening the vexatious scandal sheet, the Police
Commissioner transferred north Inspector Durham, a senior officer of impeccable credentials, but
again, nothing changed.
Until 5th September 1905.
On that date, a different inspector, the Inspector of Nuisances, a council officer, discovered the
aforementioned Lumberg hacked to death in the bush on the outskirts of town. Undoubtedly a
stingy old bugger, the unmarried and wealthy Lumberg invested money made in the gold rush years
in houses, which he rented out, though, not caring for the luxury of a house himself, he instead
lived in a shed. In

Similarities And Weaknesses Of The Civil War
The Civil War The North and South had many different weaknesses and strengths at the beginning
of the Civil War in 1861. This essay will compare the political, economic, social and military
strengths and weaknesses of the North and South at the beginning of the Civil War. There were
many reasons for the War of the States to be fought including, but not limited to slavery, separation
of states, the Constitution, and the way of life. The North and South had many political strengths
and weaknesses. The South had an amazing fighting spirit because they were fighting to preserve
their way of life. They were also defending their home against the northern invaders. While the
North was just fighting to continue the Union, and were not as inspired. Furthermore the North had
the advantage of President Lincoln being from the North, when the South did not. The South had
less states in its Confederacy with only a mere fifteen states, versus the North who had nineteen
states in their Union. Lincoln believed that secession was illegal under the law of the Constitution
and he would declare war against the rebelling states if necessary. For the first time in American
history, Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus, the right of prisoners to a trial, ergo the Union
could arrest citizens who might have been southern sympathizers. The North and South had many
economic strengths and weaknesses. The South had many plantations of rice, cotton, tobacco and
other cash crops, which produced

Compare And Contrast The Knight s Tale And The Wife Of Bath
In the fourteen hundreds women were seen differently by men than now a days. Women were
viewed as a price or as an honor. Men would do crazy things in order to have that women they
desire in their power. They would give up their lives for these special women who felt like queens
around the men. Since womanwere always being treated as a treasure, they started getting used
and expected everything from men. In the Knight s tale and The Wife of Bath s Tale by Geoffrey
Chaucer describe how these things happened back then 1400 s. Both of these tales are similar of
how womenwould act with men.
Back then in the 1400 s some girls acted differently by having more respect to themselves, but
some didn t. Some girls liked going out there to have some pleasure. In the Knight s Tale there this

Computers And The Modern Society
Say No to Decryption Smartphones, such as iPhone, Samsung, and Blackberry, have become an
indispensable part of everyone s life. Individuals use the phone to store their private information,
from photos to contacts, conversations, schedules, emails, bank accounts, and heath record, even
where we are going and who we are talking. All this information has to be protected from
decryption and unauthorized use by hackers, cyber criminals, and even the government. Recently,
data decryption becomes a certain issue faced by the technology companies, users, and the
government after two killers attacked at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California
on December 2, 2015. The shooting did not only take the life of 14 innocent people but... Show

Building a backdoor to a phone is an unprecedented step that takes everyone s safety at risk
because it empowers government, as well as hackers and cyber criminals, to capture users
private data. Weakening encryption will cause a series of issues on the security of devices.
Sophia Cope, an attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, claims that if Apple creates
unlocking technology, its development would be like opening Pandora s Box. It means that not
only would the killer s phone be decrypted, but also all the phones would be at risk to be
decrypted. The government is more likely to ask Apple to craft a master key that could be used
to open not only one door but every door. With this master key, the government could pass
through all the devices and access everyone s message, phone calls, emails, location, social
network accounts, bank account, or even camera or microphone without the subject s consent. In
facts, not only the government but also the hackers and cyber criminals could access this
information. They rely on the loophole to crack any devices for identity theft and various kinds of
crime. Compliance with the FBI s order to create a gateway for one device is putting the risk of
millions of people s private data accessible by those who have technological knowledge, including
the government, sophisticated hackers, and cybercriminals.

The Rivalry Between Gene And Finny s Friendship
Keep your Friends Close and your Enemies Closer Set in 1942 during World War II, A Separate
Peace by John Knowles deals with the hostility between two best friends, Gene and Finny. Gene is a
decent athlete, and an extremely smart student. Finny, on the hand, is an extremely capable athlete,
but an average student. While the World War
II is happening somewhere far from Devon, a
personal war driven by envy and jealousy is diverging their friendship. What started as a friendly
competition between the two, turns into a deadly rivalry. The rivalry between Gene and Finny
starts because Gene grows extremely jealous of Finny athletic abilities. This happens because of
the expectations the war has put on the young adolescents at Devon. Since Gene and his friends
are expected to enlist for the army anyway, Gene s intellectuality gets overlooked, and Finny s
athletic abilities gets praised. Gene s growing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The spectrum of jealousy and envy shifts to Finny side. Finny offers to train Gene for the
olympics, and persuades him that the war is fabricated to cover his true motive. This is the part
where the turn in tables is noticed: Gene has now the athletic abilities over Finny, and Finny has
the psychological hold over him. This is also the part where Finny manifest his new jealousy
towards Gene. He says I ll hate everywhere if I am not in this war! Why do you think I kept
saying there wasn t any war all winter? I was going to keep on saying it .... After I got letter from
Ottawa or Chunking or some place saying Yes, you can enlist with us (190). Finny admits on his
death bed that the only reason he made Gene believe that there is no war is because he can t
enlist to the army. He is jealous that Gene can join the war, but he can t, as a result he did
everything in his power to keep Gene away from the war. This is the closure both Finny and Gene

Neurocognitive Disorder Analysis
The term neurocognitive disorder was recently established by the DSM V and is divided into
major neurocognitive disorders and mild neurocognitive disorders. The DSM V has grouped the
terms delirium, dementia, and amnestic and other cognitive disorders that were previously used in
the DSM IV TR into one term known as neurocognitive disorders (Mcanulty, 2013). Major
neurocognitive disorder consisted of the term dementia in the DSM IV TR while minor
neurocognitive disorder was a diagnosis not previously included in the DSM. Major
neurocognitive disorders will affect an individual s everyday life significantly, while a mild
neurocognitive disorder may not. Neurocognitive disorders primarily affect an individual s

occurs in individuals ages 50 70 and results in inappropriate behaviors, language impairments,
trouble with cognition involving thinking and concentration, as well as movement impairments
(Mayo Clinic, 2015). Other forms of neurocognitive disorders include trauma, traumatic brain injury
, Parkinson s disease, and Huntington s disease (Grohol, 2015). Huntington s disease is a genetic
disorder that affects specific nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This disease occurs in earlier
years, typically between the ages of 30 40 and symptoms include changes in personality including
anxiety and irritability, a severe decline in cognition, and weakness affecting gait (Swierzerski,

Government Privacy Analysis
How much do you know about the American government? Does the government respect the
privacy of their citizens? Is the government violating Americans privacy? In 2013 a guy named
Edward Snowden released government files that prove that the government has a file for every
cell phone in America. Meaning that every text message, photo, phone call, email, etc is being
recorded, making it easier for the government to track down anyone that they want. Americans
privacy is being violated very similarly to the privacy violations in 1984, a novel written by George
Orwell. In the present day and in 1984 people could be easily tracked down and are being watched

If anyone ever started to act suspicious or do unusual activity, the FBI will then pull up that
person s cell phone file, and review every text message, phone call, email, etc. Thanks to a guy
named Edward Snowden these files were released to show everyone the secret activity the
government does behind the people s backs. Edward Snowden worked for the NSA and had many
important roles. When Snowden came across these files he felt the need the documents because he
believed that these types of decisions should be determined by the public. And just like Edward
Snowden I do strongly believe that the government should not have made the decision of recording
private information without notifying us, the citizens. Even though these actions are meant to
protect and to prevent, however this is a total violation of privacy which is not ok.
In conclusion, every person with a cellular device does have a file that the government has just
in case. Cell phones are losing it s original purpose and should now be considered a tracking
device. If the government kept this secret, who knows what else they could be hiding. Personally
it s frightening to know that the government knows where you are, who you were with, how long
you were with that person, and when you went back home. Just like in 1984 you never know when

legislation around the internet. Balkam furthers this argument with ideas from the non profit FOSI

Empowerment For Ministry Among The Philippines
Introduction An issue many pastors face today is the definitive difference between a called
professional clergy and a called laity and the necessary responsibilities for the empowerment of
laity within their specific missional context. This issue of empowerment for ministry among the
laity has long been a problem debated within the ranks of church leadership and the field of
practical theology. The average believer is faced with the challenge of developing a biblical
understanding of the call of God that is received from God for the fulfillment of their ministry,
which is necessary to form a clear understanding of the role of the laity within the church in light
of the professional clergy. This paper will focus upon the biblical understanding of the
priesthood of all believers, as the laos, or people of God and the role of the professional clergy to
equip, empower and encourage laity to flourish in the work in which God has called them to do.
The development of the historical views of lay ministry within the local church is also a
necessary component that will be addressed in dealing with this dilemma. This paper will also
seek to present biblical narratives presenting the importance of the role of both a called clergy and
a called laity for the successful continuation of a biblical model of the church within today s
society. Properly Defining the Roles of Clergy and Laity within the Pentecostal Church An essential
part of defining the difference between clergy and

The Characteristics Of Baroque Music
At first glance, a number of pieces of baroque music can seem pretty straightforward and simplistic.
When performed exactly as it is written, usually by amateurs, the music may not be able to grab the
listener s attention and it is easy to assume that listeners back then had different musical ears that
modern listeners do that gave them the ability to tolerate such simplistic pieces. Could this really be
the musicthat some records have shown to drive people of the Baroqueera to tears and even the urge
to faint? It is when a vocalist begins to embellish and ornament the various notes and give their own
improvisational touches to the piece that it truly begins to have character and grips the listener with
it s pulchritudinous composition, such as is with works such as Monteverdi s famous Ariadne s
Lament, a gorgeous work capable of moving most to tears; this is the importance of ornamentation
when it comes to musicians performing Baroque era music.
Unfortunately, there has been little research and discussion on what vocal characteristics are
suitable for the most authentic Baroque performance. A very common misunderstanding is that
Baroque music is innately limited, simple, or uninspired; however, the truth of it is that the music of
the Baroque gives the performer the freedom personal expression and individualized that is
unrivaled by most other periods of music history. To further illustrate, the Baroque era is like the
instructor that assigns a creative writing

change, and so Broome, as a philosopher, examines and criticizes economists ethical judgments.
Broom discusses and analyzes the discount rate based on commodities, well being, and time used in
economic analysis of climate change.
The discount rate is a specific annual rate that expresses the future commodity value compared to
the present commodity value. It is based on a cost benefit analysis when the future people s benefits

The marginal benefit of money is the amount by which a small increase in a person s wealth
increases that person s well being, and it is inversely proportional to a person s wealth (Broome
124). As a result of the growth of the economy, future people will possess more commodities and
so there will be a diminishing marginal value of commodities. Broome gives evidence that the
economy is likely to grow, so commodities should be discounted positively. If future people will be
better off as mentioned earlier, present people can discount for well being because the value of an
addition to well being in the future will be less than the value of an addition to present well being.
Broome argues that this theory conflicts with utilitarianism, which gives a quantitative aggregation
of well being. Utilitarianism can be a theory of human goodness; however, it does not distribute the
well being among individuals. In contrast, Broome mentions Prioritarianism, which supports the
increase of well being of the disadvantaged than to the privileged and promotes equitable
distribution of well being. Prioritarianism and Utilitarianism are contrasting theories because
Prioritarianism, an ethical claim, supports discounting the value of marginal changes in well being
to the future generations, assuming they are better off than the present people while Utilitarianism
does not

Onomatopoeia For A Burning House
What is an onomatopoeia for a burning house? Snap? Crackle? Pop? Well, whatever that sound
is, just imagine it on a cold but not snowy winter s night, a night that started out as a trip to the
movies but backfired. See what I did there. My house set ablaze last December, of course it had

Maxine Hong Kingston No Name Woman
No Name Woman
In Chinese traditional culture, since women had lots of limitations in gender role, they have no
power to influence their future. In the essay No Name Woman , the author Maxine Hong Kingston
shows a tragedy of her aunt in the traditional Chinese society and it emphasizes how it is necessary
to change men and women s status. Her aunt got pregnant after her husband left home. It was not
accepted by villagers and her family because they thought she do not follow the traditional women
rule. The whole family considered aunt as the shame and they kicked her aunt out of the family.

According to Confucian ideas, families were to be strictly hierarchical: old over young, and
male over female. In addition, Confucianism idealized the extended family, and encouraged
families to favor sons over daughters. This rule creates the most extreme division of men and
women. Since man is the only productivity in the society, they have the power to control
everything. In contrast, women are treated as accessories and they cannot influence anything
rather than rely on their husbands and families. Even though, some women realize that they
should change their social status, but they have no power against the ethical ideas. Based on the
division of jobs, the whole society puts men in the first priority, even they do bad things, they
will be forgiven by everyone. Women are posited as housewives and do not have any
contributions to the society. As a result, no one cares their life. Women are willing to accept this
unequal position and they get used to be obedient because of survival. Women are not allowed to
be educated and cannot be independent of that period, so families are the only factor to make
them survive. In conclude, being alive is the key reason that women prefer to obey their
families and follow traditional rules, died is considered as a way to empower for women s
status. The author s aunt suicide is not unique in that period. Chairman Mao had written an essay
called Miss Zhao s Suicide to argue that the Confucian ideas provide wrong concepts of the social
structure in China. Miss Zhao s family forced her to marriage with someone, who had power in
local place. She rejected this because she thought she should have a true love marriage. However,
her family ignores her request. At the end, she killed herself to against the traditional rule. Both of

Expensive! Bottled water cost this much because of the extra labor and processing the water

But why are these parents so eager to help change their children and why are their children so
eager to change themselves? They claim that they are trying to be more comfortable with their

and the parents of these individuals should be discouraging them from having cosmetic surgery,
instead of encouraging and supporting them.
Teenagers hope that by changing a part of their body in order to fit in they will automatically
become more popular among their peers. However, this is not the case. In fact rather than giving
an overabundance of confidence, most often, cosmetic surgery only gives temporary confidence to

Understanding Lord Byron
The Romantic Period was a time where life changed for so many. At the time, nations were
experiencing the results of the Industrial Revolution. England was the first nation in the world to
experience the effects of the Industrial Revolution (Henry 527). Instead of products being made
by hand, they were being made now by machines. Homes of people were being used for
industries. The people most affected were those of the lower class. No one cared about them.
People were ignoring the changes in the world. Romantics wanted to show the world that these
changes were negative changes. The writers during the Romantic Period wanted to bring real life

It changed the way of living, which changed the way of thinking. Imagination was seen as one of
the key features to describe one s perspective of the world. Henry explains that the human
imagination is some kind of desire a motive that drives the mind to discover things that it cannot
learn by rational or logical thinking (532). Logical thinking could not explain the importance in
change, so something else had to be used. Imagination drives a person s mind into deeper thought
than does reason. He explains how life on earth dies off. All earth was but one thought and that
was death (Byron 42). Writing about an apocalyptic world, brings out the curiosity of people;
therefore, people use imagination to put themselves in this situation to be able to understand.
William quotes, I see everything I paint in this world, but everybody does not see alike (532).
Everyone has a different perspective. It is hard to be able to explain the writer s writing without
imagination and creativity. Readers don t use reason to understand the poet s intention. Using
reason, just describes only one point of view. Henry states, Romanticism turned away from the
eighteenth century emphasis on reason and artifice. Instead, the Romantics embraced imagination
and naturalness (529). During the period, they believed that imagination, rather than mere reason,
was the best response to the forces of change (Henry 529). According to Henry, Wordsworth

The Effects of Anxiety on Adolescent Women Research This paper includes five articles that report
results from research conducted to observe how adolescents, specifically female, are affected by the
anxiety disorders. Blumenthal, Leen Feldner, Babson, Frala (2011) stated Adolescence is a key
period in terms of the onset and intensification of psychological diagnoses and symptomatology

Blumenthal, Leen Feldner, Babson, Frala (2011) performed an observational study on various
participants to determine whether or not anxiety affects which ages and genders most severely. The
purpose of this paper was to compare the anxiety levels in those reaching the pubescent stages at
different maturity levels. They hypothesized that anxiety would be most severe in those who
matured earlier and hit a pubescent period younger. Procedures: Youth were screened for

Crown lengthening may be done to restore damaged teeth, insert a dental crown, or for cosmetic
reasons. Teeth that are severely damaged due to tooth decay, trauma or periodontal disease may
need to undergo crown lengthening if the tooth is broken under the gum or there is not enough
tooth surface to properly restore the tooth.

John Stuart Mill The Harm Principle
John Stuart Mill was an English philosopher and a progressive in British politics during the 17th
century. He lived during a time of political transformation in England caused by the Industrial
Revolution. The Industrial Revolution brought social mobility to the middle and lower class, along
with more political participation. With this newfound freedom, the people of England felt their
liberties were being diminished because they had the ability to accomplish all the more but in some
cases, could not. This was just one question of libertybrought up during the time Mill was
developing intellectually (Sparks 186). Mill wrote many works that trifled with the idea of gender
equality, government structure, and economic principles, to name a... Show more content on

The largest and arguably most influential point Mill makes in his essay is that the harm principle
does not only apply to the government anymore but to all of society. In making this argument he
is defining societal values in that it shaped areas in which society must respect personal liberties.
He constructs his statement on how the harm principle is applied to society in three parts. His
first assertion pertains to the liberty of one s own mind. He states, the inward domain of
consciousness; demanding liberty of conscience, in the most comprehensive sense; liberty of
thought and feeling; absolute freedom of opinion and sentiment on all subjects, practical or
speculative, scientific, moral, or theological (Mill 20). In saying this, Mill means that a person s
liberty cannot be persecuted if they never act on them. Any thoughts a man may have are his
own thoughts and he may think whatever he would like to think. This has shaped societal values
because no one is truly obligated to share what they think today, nor is it a societal norm to
criticize one s opinions if they differ from your own but it does happen. His second statement
addresses the control one individual can have over another. He claims that an individual can plan
their life as they please, and should not be met with the pressure of what others may see as being
abnormal (Mill 20). By saying this, Mill expresses the

Nazi Ideals
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
John Boyne characterizes Bruno s innocence in order to challenge Nazi ideals. The book starts out
describing the life of a wealthy, Aryan, nine year old who suddenly moves out of his perfect house
in Berlin, Germany to a house near the concentration camp Aushwitz. Soon after Bruno discovers
the people in striped pyjamas, tension builds and his understanding of the purpose behind the fence
of Aushwitz reveal the shocking reality of the Holocaust, causing the reader to question the true
intentions of the Nazi regime. John Boyne first challenges Nazi ideals in the book when he
introduces Lieutenant Kotler and Pavel to the story and John displays Bruno s dislike for Kotler s

It is interesting to see how Bruno understands all of this, because he had very little knowledge of
the Nazi regime and their intentions. John Boyne made the Nazi regime seem less dominant in
the book by characterizing Bruno this way. For example: Bruno repeatedly mispronounces
Aushwitz (As Out With) and Fuhrer (As Fury) I think the author s purpose was to ridicule the
place and the person. Bruno mispronouncing these words not only makes fun of these words, it
also implies that he didn t care about the Nazi Regime, because he didn t ever try to spell the
words correctly. A more prominent example however lies in the part of the book where Bruno
meets Adolf Hitler himself. However, Bruno s lack of knowledge portrayed a view to Adolf Hitler
that wasn t very common at that time. The Fury was far shorter than Father and not, Bruno
supposed, quite as strong...and a moustache so tiny in fact that Bruno wondered why bothered with
it at all or whether he had simply forgotten a piece when he was shaving. This quote shows that

The Gun Show Loophole
Since the Brady Act was introduced in 1998, we know that there have been approximately two
hundred and thirty million background screenings done to date. However, imagine how many
more could have been completed if the right laws were in place for unlicensed dealers. The laws
that are in place today are lacking at best, therefore a major issue with purchasing these firearms
happen at gunshows, which is also known as the gun show loophole. In an article, written by Mark
Duggan of the MIT Press, states that THOUSANDS of gun shows take place in the United States
each year. Gun control advocates argue that the gun show loophole makes it easier for potential
criminals to obtain a gun; the loophole basically allows unlicensed vendors at gun shows to sell
firearms without conducting background checks on purchasers. (Duggan) A twenty one year old
cannot even walk into a bar or a liquor store and purchase alcohol without the proper identification,
nevertheless someone with a known criminal background or a person with a history of mental
illness can walk straight into a gun show and purchase deadly weapons without even flashing an
identification card, but per our government laws, that s completely legal.
Gun lobbyist continue to stand by their gun shows though, they cite a U.S. Bureau of Justice

that they obtained it at a gun show. (Duggan) The lobbyist main argument is that,

Cory was so hurt by his father actions that when he died he did not wished to attend his funeral for
the rencor he carried in his heart. Here Cory learns to forgive and grieves truly his father s death.
When Troy had his oldest son Lyons, he had to rob to maintain his family, until one day he killed
somebody and ended in the penitentiary. When he shot me I jumped at him with my knife.
They told me I killed him and they put me in the penitentiary... (55), because Troy was young
and not experience in life he made a huge mistake in robbing for a living and in doing so he
killed a man: Troy stained his hands with another person s blood. He turned those actions

An example of when police discretion was not used in a controlled and regulated manner was

2015). However, where the driver was pulled over and killed at was outside of the shared
jurisdiction. According to Capehart (2015), The University of Cincinnati police officerRay Tensing
lied about the events leading up to the shooting and the officer s body worn camera exposed the
truth of what really happened that day. In the video, the officer is asking Mr. Dubose repeatedly
for his driver s license . Mr. Dubose replies that he has a driver s license but does not have it with
him. Mr. Dubose also states that the missing license plate is in the glove box. Officer Tensing
asks, What s that bottle on the floor? Mr. Dubose reaches down, picks up the bottle of gin and
gives it to the officer (Capehart, 2015). The officer starts to open the driver s door and tells Mr.

Getting The Opportunity To Get A Driver s License
Getting the opportunity to get a driver s license is very important to me. The best part about
getting a license is that I have the freedom to go where I want instead of always going where my
parents want me to go. It may be easy to get a driver s license, but I still have to remember that I
have to pay gas money, insurance, etc. Once i get these stages down I will be good and not have
to worry about anything else, right? Wrong, driving can also be dangerous and their are things you
can do to prevent those dangerous outcomes. Let s learn more about these three key features.
First, driving can give me more rights to go wherever my heart desires. It can also help me get to
places where i need to be. For example, I live in Iowa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will help me to value money instead of just spending. I need to spend my money wisely and
not spend it as soon as I get it. All of these things that I listed can cost over $35,000 depending on
how much my car is worth. Even driving a vehicle burning gas could cost over $1,500 of gas a year.
Last, but not least, driving may cost me a couple thousand dollars out of my pocket, but it can
sure be dangerous. When I m driving with people I have to remember that my life and their life
are in my hands. There are ways I can prevent reckless driving such as, always watching the road
and not drinking alcohol while I drive. Driving safely is very important, you can even go to jail
behind careless driving. In conclusion, stay safe while driving and don t get caught up in the
motions.
As one can see, getting a driver s license is extremely important to me. It gives me the freedom to
drive where I want, it helps me to value money more, but it can also be dangerous. When I m
driving I will consider and look back on these features. I know these three reasons are reasons
where i can be safe and benefit from. They will stay in my life and I will never forget

Analyzing The Poem Slam Poetry
This poem contains three stanzas with seven lines per each, and the rhyme scheme is A, B, A, B,
C, D, C. In this poem I attempted to mimic Maya in that I spoke of a topic that was deeply
important to me, told a story, and expressed my opinions. I noticed that Maya s writing as well as
other Post Modern/Contemporary poets write about issues they deem important, or feelings,
moreover, how to put feelings into words. Slam Poetryis often an extreme example of this, and has
come into popularity in the Post Modern and Contemporary Era.
Furthermore, as far as style goes Maya does write free verse relatively often, but other times there
is a semi distinct or distinct rhyme scheme. She doesn t follow the same pattern in every poem she
writes, or

Using The New Ideas And Strategies I Have Gained Essay
The Digital Student
In order to understand the ways in which I plan to use the new ideas and strategies I have gained in
the Digital Student course, you must first understand my teaching placements. Each school day I
teach in two vastly different settings. In the morning I teach at an urban high school. We have
roughly twelve hundred and fifty students. At my high school, we face all of the challenges you
find in an urban setting. Sixty one percent of our students are economically challenged. Many of
my students work in the evening to help out at home or to have spending money. Attendance is a
concern. Attending school regularly is an issue with many of my students. We also have a large
population of special needs students. Twenty two percent of our students have disabilities. The
subject I teach at the high school is junior/senior level Earth and Space Science. I teach three
sections and have a total of sixty four students in my classes. My course fulfills the third year of
the science graduation requirement for many of my students. Accessing technology in my school
can be challenging. We do not have one to one computer access for our students. We have one
computer lab, one library computer lab and Chromecarts. The Chromecarts are frequently out of
circulation because of their use in testing and in our credit recovery classes. This year I have been
experimenting with the flipped classroom model. Therefore, I surveyed my students for computer
access at the

Call Of Duty Research Paper
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Though one might say video games have no value in today s society,
technology is one of the most useful tools for children today. Video games can help to connect a
person to their character through the actions they cause or the changes they make. It s very easy
for someone to connect to a world through a character s eyes completely controlled by them. The
idea of virtual reality is a very useful tool to help teach people how to work in the real world.
However, Call of Duty is not one of those tools. To begin with a description for the game, Call of
Duty is a first person, war like battle simulation game. The player is given the choice of multiple
game types that will either involve working as a team or on their own to complete a mission. The
objective will range anywhere from taking out the enemy team to destroying a bomb site. Some
examples of game modes would be: Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Free for All,
Domination, or Hardpoint. The players have the ability to choose any type of playstyle that fits
them comfortably. Players have a large arsenal to procure weapons from. The guns all show
statistics of range, accuracy, damage, and speed. The player has to choose the character, playstyle,
and weaponry that will best help them succeed in completing the objective.... Show more content on

Reflection On Math Lesson
What? For my second lesson, I taught a math lesson on multiplying decimals with zeros in the
product. I wanted students to be able to show that they could multiply with decimals in the
product and I wanted them to be able to explain how they know where to add the decimal point
in the answer. This lesson was part of the unit over decimals. Students will learn to add them,
subtract, multiply, divide, and then take a test for the unit. I decided to teach this lesson
because this is what my teacher had planned for the day and needed me to teach to keep her on
track for the test. Honestly, I was excited to teach a math lesson because it was a great refresher
for me. Overall, I was very satisfied with the way the lesson went. The students were
understanding the instruction I delivered and were giving the answers I had hoped for. The
students were on task and engaged for the entire lesson and when they weren t engaged, I could
draw or mention sticks and I would get more active participation. Before I asked students to work
independently or with a partner, I modeled exactly what they should be doing and how they should
do it. This made a huge difference from my first lesson because there was no confusion. When I
had one students come up to the board and share their answer, everyone in the class had the same
answer. While I was formatively checking their understanding, this told me that the way I was
teachingwas working because they all understood the problem. I really can not think of anything
that did not go as I had planned or that I was not happy with. Although, there was one point
where my math was wrong because I was not thinking logically. I need to make sure I slow down
while I am teaching to check my own work so I am not teaching the students incorrect
information! The only change I would try and make if I taught this lesson again would be to find a
way to make it more engaging and less teaching instruction out of the book. I feel that with math
this is sometimes challenging, but I think it could be done. Even though I did use multiple means
of representation by doing a whole class discussion, partner work, and independent work, I could
have found maybe a more hands on activity for the students to

How To Prevent Prison Population
The prison population rises each year. This increasing trend has been directly linked to the
reoccurring arrests of released prisoners. Some people believe that there is not an answer to fixing
this problem. However, research and studies show that there is an answer to the reoccurring
problem. Even with this conclusion, there continues to be many opinions on what should or should
not be done to prevent the prisonpopulation from continuing to rise on a yearly basis. Most
people who are incarcerated will only be there for a period of time before release. The majority of
the prison population will be released at some point. Some will serve shorter sentences than others.
Only a small percentage of prisoners make up the population that

Literature Review On Quality Of Life
Perhaps the most astounding findings across this literature review were how music improved the
quality of life for almost all patients studied. Sole, Mercadal Brotons, Galati, and De Castro (2014)
specifically focused their study on using music therapy to improve quality of life. During twelve
weekly music therapysessions, sixteen participants with differing levels of dementia were
followed. The patient s diagnoses included Alzheimer s Disease, Vascular dementia, Parkinson s
disease, and cognitive deterioration with possible dementia. The Global Deterioration Scale
(GDS) was used to score the participants, and nine were found to have mild dementia, five
moderate, and two with severe levels of dementia. All participants had lived in a nursing home for
an average of three years. Most participants had little to no hearing impairment, had a primary level
of education, and a high quality of emotional support.
Sole et al. also scored each participant using the Ceneralitat de Catalunya (GENCAT) Quality of
Life scale. This quality of life scale focused on eight areas that are significant in determining quality
of life. Emotional well being (security, contentment), interpersonal relationships, material well
being (having money, a home, or a job), personal development (self fulfillment, and acquiring new
skills), physical well being, self determination (autonomy), social inclusion (feeling like a
contributing member of society, and feeling supported by others), and rights (equal

This doesn t mean selling yourself short but if you want a raise, you have to be able to justify why
you are worth it. If you can show on paper why your boss should pay you $1 million, then go ahead
and do it. But if you can t, you want to ask for a raise that s closer to the value you add to the
company.
So, how can you pick a realistic figure? How do you ensure you aren t asking for something
unattainable while also ensuring you aren t asking for too little? Before you walk into the
negotiating room, you need to conduct research.
To determine what you should earn, you should take the following steps:
List your current tasks and responsibilities. Look at your job contract and write down the tasks and
responsibilities you are required to do under your current contract. Underneath, list the tasks and
responsibilities you are doing that are not part of your current job description the additional value
you add to the company.
Research the industry and role averages. Examine what industry averages are and what people in
your position earn on average. You can find salary information on websites such as salary.com,
totaljobs.com and glassdoor.com. Focus your search on similar job titles, educational background,
industry and geographical location.
These two should give you a better idea on how much additional value you are adding to the

Violence In Leadership
Did you know that violence accounts for more than 1.6 million deaths every year?
Violence has been around us our whole lives and is something that will never come to a stop.
Violence will continue through the rest of our lives and the lives to come in the future if someone
doesn t step up and try to take a stand. Society s leading problem is violence and can only be helped
through the kind of leadership that demonstrates Trust and Integrity, Confidence, and a good
communication. First, trust and integrity are one of my three most important qualities that
every leader needs to have if they are gonna try to stop violence within our society. Trust and
integrity is a key quality on how we can try to stop the problem of violence in our society.
Talking about integrity, Oprah Winfrey said: Real integrity is doing the right, knowing that
nobody s going to know whether you did it or not. What she said kinda ties into to trust as well
because everyone is gonna know that you re going to do it and do well. Trust and Integrity would
be important for a leader to stop the violence because it shows a sense of trust and shows that the
leader will do the right thing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Confidence is very important because when you make decisions and you aren t confident about

for various purposes like analysis, evaluations and to arrive at certain results or conclusions.
Data reporting is a process where data is extracted form a source or many sources and then
converted into a format that can be used for a purpose. It is usually presented in the form of a
report in tables, charts, statistics, and graphs or on spread sheets etc. This data may be used to

details of how it should be done and when it needs to be completed by and there is a different
member of the team who cannot complete their task in till you have completed yours and you
do not get it finished within the time frame and/or it has not be formatted in the agreed way,
then you will hold up the project. This will not show you in a professional light. You will be

mean diastolic blood pressure (p 0.001) in the office than those aged less than 65 years. Office

blood pressure, older patients had higher mean ambulatory systolic blood pressures than the
younger age group, but there were no differences in mean ambulatory diastolic blood pressure
between the two groups. Men had higher mean ambulatory diastolic and mean arterial blood

pressures than women; however, women had higher systolic (p 0.008) and mean arterial office
blood pressures than men (Khoury et al 1992).
A similar result was gained in a study of 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in 352
healthy Danish subjects aged 20 to 79 years. These participants were divided into groups of 25
to 30 subjects, of each sex, across all age groups. Blood pressure monitoring was measured on
the left arm every 15 minutes from 7am to 11pm and every 30 minutes from 11pm to 7am. The
study found that systolic blood pressure increased only slightly with age and was significantly
higher in men than in women. On the other hand, the diastolic blood pressure increased only
slightly with age in both sexes until the 50 to 59 years age group, declined thereafter and was not
statistically different between sexes (Wiinberg et al 1995).

Kepler Myths
Myths of Kepler 62 planetary system and perspectives on Kepler mission
Since the very beginning of exoplanet discovery, astronomers have been seeking to find an earth
like habitable planet. This search especially rose in importance in the 21st century when we were
faced with intensifying problems of resource scarcity and environmental deterioration which
directly influence our being on earth. In order to investigate regions in the Milky Way to
discover Earth sized exoplanets in and approximate to a habitable zone, NASA sent Kepler, a
Discovery class mission spacecraft to identify planets in the Habitable Zone of main sequence stars
and to generate a better estimate of how many stars in the Milky Way have such planets (Overbye,

Protecting Trade Secrets Is Beneficial
Firms develop some technologies that might not be patentable, might not be worth the cost of
applying for a patent, or might be more valuable if kept undisclosed. They prefer to keep

are protected by legal rules against learning by rivals through dishonest means. Such protection
lapses if the technologies are discovered by fair means, such as independent inventionor reverse

R D creates externalities and is a public good, its sale or use does not preclude others using it and
can be consumed by many without lessening its value (indeed we will argue that the greater the
use of it, in many cases the higher its value). It is difficult to price ideas to sell since this requires
revealing them and avoid the need to pay. Firms with innovations to sell are therefore unable to
do so. There are of course some caveats to these problems. Only firms which are already well
informed in the relevant R D are able to understand and exploit such research innovations ie
developments in research knowledge, although difficult to exclude others from knowing, are in fact
difficult to understand and develop further without the necessary absorptive capacity (Cohen and
Levinthal 1990). Only those people with considerable investment already in that area will be able to
carry the ideas forward and exploit them. Hence only those firms with substantial existing R D
departments will be in a position to commercialize the new research innovations of another
producer. Problems of appropriability are essentially about the low costs of transmitting information
and if these costs turn out to be high, then appropriability as a problem diminishes. Another caveat
to the seriousness of the appropriability problem is that firms with innovations benefit from being
first in the field with information and capture rents

Dramatic Justice In Tartuffe By Myrna Zwillenberg
Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg s article Dramatic Justice in Tartuffe examines the all powerful king s
theatrical resolution of the story of Tartuffe . Zwillenberg writes It is so unexpected as to cast
doubt upon the dramatic coherence of the entire comedy (583). Zwillenberg concludes that the deus
ex machina (583) ending not only brings closure to the stories of Orgon and Tartuffe, but also
restores the comedic equilibrium that is upset by Tartuffe throughout the play. I agree in full with
Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg s assertion that the conclusion to Tartuffe brings a fitting end to the play
in both dramatics and comedy.
Zwillenberg begins by examining the injustice of Tartuffe and Orgon s actions. Zwillenberg writes
Dramatic justice... would seem to necessitate the punishment of Orgon and the hypocrite (584)
Mariane is unfairly given to marry Tartuffe. Tartuffe seemingly hypnotizes Orgon, and subsequently
runs away with many of his possessions, including the deed to his house. Both of these actions,
Zwillenberg argues, upset the equilibrium of the story. As with any story,... Show more content on

Punishing Tartuffe by different means Zwellenberg writes such as judgement by the family... would
have still left unsolved the matter of Orgon s complicity (588) Zwillenberg notes that Orgon was as
complicit in the creation of Tartuffe as Tartuffe himself, thus he is as deserving a punishment as the
hypocrite. If Orgon s family were to triumph in judgement over Tartuffe, there are no consequences
for Orgon s unjust actions towards his family. Likewise, Tartuffe must be put into his place to bring
the story back into equilibrium (584). The king s grand entrance into the story satisfies both of
these requirements, Zwillenberg argues, by humbling Orgon and punishing Tartuffe in one smooth

  • 2. Overview of Insider Trading Introduction On June 4, 2003, the Securities Exchange Commission announced that it was pursuing charges against investor Martha Stewart and stock broker Peter Bacanovic for securities fraud. The fraud occurred on December 27, 2001 when Stewart sold stock in ImClone Systems, after receiving an unlawful tip from Bacanovic, who at the time was working for Merrill Lynch. The SEC also accused the two of attempting to cover up the insider actions, and of making false statements regarding the ImClone trades to SEC investigators (SEC, 2003). Stephen Cutler, the SEC director of enforcement said in the SEC s press release about the charges that It is fundamentally unfair for someone to have an edge on the market just because she has a stockbroker who is willing to break the rules and give her an illegal tip. It s worse still when the individual engaging in the insider trading is the Chairman and CEO of a public company. This statement and the philosophy behind it is a central part in the debate about the merits, not so much about the case against Stewart but against the prosecution of Stewart. The SEC sought redress not only in the form of monetary penalties and prison time, but it also sought to have Stewart removed from a position as officer of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (SEC, 2003). The Case ImClone was a relatively small pharmaceutical firm. At the time of the offense, ImClone was awaiting a decision from the Food and Drug Administration regarding the status of Erbitux, ... • 3. Euthyphro Main question of the Dialogue The main question of this dialogue is the definition of the word holy or piety. Euthyphro brags that he is more knowledgeable than his father on matters relating to religion. In this case, Socrates suggests to Euthyphro to define that term. The first definition fails to satisfy Socrates because of its limitation in application. Apparently, Socrates perceives this definitionas an example rather than a definition. Subsequent arguments and line of questioning lead to five sets of definitions that are refined to find the general definition. Socrates expects that the acceptable general definition of the question will act as a reference point in his defense. Problems with Euthyphro s initial definition According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case, the argument would imply that the justification is both holy and unholy, which is rationally impractical. What Socrates uses to Combat Euthyphro s Conceptions of holiness At the core of Socrates argument is the need to break down the definition of holiness into smaller coherent characteristics. Socrates uses a series of question that are consistent with Euthyphro s argument to ensure that he [Euthyphro] offers a consistent flow of definitions of the word holy. Euthyphro accepts these ideas because he offers different definitions that are in line with the clarified ideations. Socrates uses basic philosophical question What is holy? , which leads to a myriad of definitions with different characteristics. Euthyphro sums up all these characteristics in the final definition. Euthyphro s problem is that he is trying to show his prowess among social and philosophical elite by proving his father to be impious. His ego coupled with his father s flattery obscures Euthyphro from developing concrete definitions. Deeper (Philosophical) Point of Justice Socrates point on justice is that everything that is termed just ought to be entirely holy. On the other hand, not everything that is deemed holy is just. However, the term just is used interchangeably with the term morally good. I think Socrates point is to find enough proof to support any premise beyond reasonable doubt. • 4. Viva La Vida And The Count Of Monte Cristo While each piece of literature is completely different, some of them have similar patterns and ideas. One of these ideas would be human nature. Human nature is anything that is natural for a human to do and can not be stopped easily. Things like greed and too much power can change someone greatly. This can be the cause of many problems and can make someone who is a good person into a bad person. In Viva La Vidaand The Count of Monte Cristo, the writers use of allusions and metaphors convey the idea that human nature can be the cause of misfortune. The story of Viva La Vida, by Coldplay, is about a king who has too much power and ends up being overthrown from people in his kingdom. Coldplay expresses this story in metaphors. I used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This king had the key to the castle, meaning that he knew what the people wanted. The way Coldplay explains this story makes it seem like the people living in the king s castle turned on him, hence the reference to the walls closing in on himself. This king must have been hated for something he did, then again, every human makes mistakes. Although, this must not have been the first time because he lost his whole castle just from a mistake. Then he starts to realize why he was wrong. The downfall of this king could have been from bragging about his power too much since it is human nature to brag. Or possibly being overwhelmed with too much power giving his enemies a chance to attack. Another metaphor with the same meaning can be found in The Count of Monte Cristo. The same thing that happened to Brutus the night before the Battle of Philippi: I saw a ghost. And that ghost told me I have lived long enough (Dumas 381). At this moment in the story, the count is preparing for his duel with Albert. He then tells Maximilien that he plans on dying during the duel and leaving Maximilien his will. Maximilien is shocked and asks the count why he would ever do such a thing. The count responds with the above quote. This quote is a metaphor and shows how it is in a human s nature to want to forget the people who you don t like. This quote uses the example of Mercedes since she was the ghost that came to Dantes the night before the duel and begged him not to kill her son. Dantes responds by saying that he can not live with the dishonor of backing away from a duel, so he agreed to let Albert ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Liturgical Dance In Modern Times LAQUISHA WILLIAMS HUMN 1101 MRS. FOWLER RESEARCH PAPER Liturgical Dance (Ancient Times to the Modern Times) In the world that we live in today there are many things that has been passed down from year to year. In the years such as 1400 and 1440 B.C. dancing in which we refer to now as liturgical dancing was first introduced. Liturgical dance has as its purpose the deepening and focusing of the worship experience; it is not merely ornamental or decorative. (Branigan). Liturgical dance is a very uplifting form of art; starting from the biblical times and even up until now. The history of liturgical dance begins in the Bible. The Bible doesn t mention much about dance. But, it does mention dances of celebration during two important historical events. The first event was the crossing of the Red Sea. Miriam, prophetess and sister of Moses brought together several women in song and in praise after the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea (Exodus 15:20, 21). The second event occurs when David brings back the arc of the covenant to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6). Both major events showed the significance of praise dancing in rejoicing and thankfulness for what the Lord have done, even for your triumphs. (DavenPort). Although the times has changed, the style of liturgical dancing has changed in some ways, but has also remained the same in other ways. There are many different attributes that allows this form of art to be so uplifting. The types of attributes that causes this type of dance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Family Story And Origin Of A New Environment Every family story and origin is unique to the members of the immediate group, while including the traditions passed from generation to generation. From the scent of their house and clothes, special holidays, vacation spots, memories, what they eat and how it is served; all of these elements of life are distinct to a family. These elements are incorporated into what is viewed as normal life in a way that we don t see how our lives differ from those around us, until we are faced with a situation where things are done differently than us. Many families contain multi cultural backgrounds, therefore providing generations with traditions that include folklore from different origins. One of the biggest elements of culture how dishes are served and prepared. If you ever travel, one of the biggest attractions to a new environment is the foodthat is served in that area. Some food traditions are difficult to explain and don t make sense to outsiders, but to the family or local group it is a sense of definition and unity through foodways. In Louisiana especially, with Cajun culture, we see many festivals and events that are food based, and the pride in the locals that serve it. My family, all born and raised in the South, participate in the spicy food, crawfish boils, jambalaya sales, gumbocooking events that this culture offers. So it has come, at last, announced the paper. However, a magistrate dismissed the case, and nothing changed. This essay will compare the political, economic, social and military strengths and weaknesses of the North and South at the beginning of the Civil War. There were many reasons for the War of the States to be fought including, but not limited to slavery, separation of states, the Constitution, and the way of life. The North and South had many political strengths and weaknesses. The South had an amazing fighting spirit because they were fighting to preserve their way of life. They were also defending their home against the northern invaders. While the North was just fighting to continue the Union, and were not as inspired. Furthermore the North had the advantage of President Lincoln being from the North, when the South did not. The South had less states in its Confederacy with only a mere fifteen states, versus the North who had nineteen states in their Union. Lincoln believed that secession was illegal under the law of the Constitution and he would declare war against the rebelling states if necessary. For the first time in American history, Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus, the right of prisoners to a trial, ergo the Union could arrest citizens who might have been southern sympathizers. While the World War II is happening somewhere far from Devon, a personal war driven by envy and jealousy is diverging their friendship. What started as a friendly competition between the two, turns into a deadly rivalry. The rivalry between Gene and Finny starts because Gene grows extremely jealous of Finny athletic abilities. Empowerment For Ministry Among The Philippines Introduction An issue many pastors face today is the definitive difference between a called professional clergy and a called laity and the necessary responsibilities for the empowerment of laity within their specific missional context. This issue of empowerment for ministry among the laity has long been a problem debated within the ranks of church leadership and the field of practical theology. The average believer is faced with the challenge of developing a biblical understanding of the call of God that is received from God for the fulfillment of their ministry, which is necessary to form a clear understanding of the role of the laity within the church in light of the professional clergy. This paper will focus upon the biblical understanding of the priesthood of all believers, as the laos, or people of God and the role of the professional clergy to equip, empower and encourage laity to flourish in the work in which God has called them to do. The development of the historical views of lay ministry within the local church is also a necessary component that will be addressed in dealing with this dilemma. This paper will also seek to present biblical narratives presenting the importance of the role of both a called clergy and a called laity for the successful continuation of a biblical model of the church within today s society. • 20. The Characteristics Of Baroque Music At first glance, a number of pieces of baroque music can seem pretty straightforward and simplistic. When performed exactly as it is written, usually by amateurs, the music may not be able to grab the listener s attention and it is easy to assume that listeners back then had different musical ears that modern listeners do that gave them the ability to tolerate such simplistic pieces. Could this really be the musicthat some records have shown to drive people of the Baroqueera to tears and even the urge to faint? It is when a vocalist begins to embellish and ornament the various notes and give their own improvisational touches to the piece that it truly begins to have character and grips the listener with it s pulchritudinous composition, such as is with works such as Monteverdi s famous Ariadne s Lament, a gorgeous work capable of moving most to tears; this is the importance of ornamentation when it comes to musicians performing Baroque era music. Unfortunately, there has been little research and discussion on what vocal characteristics are suitable for the most authentic Baroque performance. A very common misunderstanding is that Baroque music is innately limited, simple, or uninspired; however, the truth of it is that the music of the Baroque gives the performer the freedom personal expression and individualized that is unrivaled by most other periods of music history. To further illustrate, the Baroque era is like the instructor that assigns a creative writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The marginal benefit of money is the amount by which a small increase in a person s wealth increases that person s well being, and it is inversely proportional to a person s wealth (Broome 124). As a result of the growth of the economy, future people will possess more commodities and so there will be a diminishing marginal value of commodities. Broome gives evidence that the economy is likely to grow, so commodities should be discounted positively. If future people will be better off as mentioned earlier, present people can discount for well being because the value of an addition to well being in the future will be less than the value of an addition to present well being. Broome argues that this theory conflicts with utilitarianism, which gives a quantitative aggregation of well being. Utilitarianism can be a theory of human goodness; however, it does not distribute the well being among individuals. In contrast, Broome mentions Prioritarianism, which supports the increase of well being of the disadvantaged than to the privileged and promotes equitable distribution of well being. Prioritarianism and Utilitarianism are contrasting theories because Prioritarianism, an ethical claim, supports discounting the value of marginal changes in well being to the future generations, assuming they are better off than the present people while Utilitarianism does not ... The Industrial Revolution brought social mobility to the middle and lower class, along with more political participation. With this newfound freedom, the people of England felt their liberties were being diminished because they had the ability to accomplish all the more but in some cases, could not. The largest and arguably most influential point Mill makes in his essay is that the harm principle does not only apply to the government anymore but to all of society. In making this argument he is defining societal values in that it shaped areas in which society must respect personal liberties. He constructs his statement on how the harm principle is applied to society in three parts. His first assertion pertains to the liberty of one s own mind. He states, the inward domain of consciousness; demanding liberty of conscience, in the most comprehensive sense; liberty of thought and feeling; absolute freedom of opinion and sentiment on all subjects, practical or speculative, scientific, moral, or theological (Mill 20). In saying this, Mill means that a person s liberty cannot be persecuted if they never act on them. Any thoughts a man may have are his own thoughts and he may think whatever he would like to think. This has shaped societal values because no one is truly obligated to share what they think today, nor is it a societal norm to criticize one s opinions if they differ from your own but it does happen. His second statement addresses the control one individual can have over another. He claims that an individual can plan their life as they please, and should not be met with the pressure of what others may see as being abnormal (Mill 20). By saying this, Mill expresses the ... The main character is Troy Maxwell and the play is written to emphasize in Troys life who he was as a person and what circumstances in his life made him who he is in the play. Important people in the playare Troy s wife Rose, his young brother Gabriel. Troy s children Lyons (Oldest), Cory (middle), and Raynell (youngest) and his best friend Bono. The play is coming of age: how Troy grows as a person and how he impacts those closest to him. Wilson s use of Troy as a character is to show how deeply flawed he was but was always seeking to do what was right... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cory was so hurt by his father actions that when he died he did not wished to attend his funeral for the rencor he carried in his heart. Here Cory learns to forgive and grieves truly his father s death. When Troy had his oldest son Lyons, he had to rob to maintain his family, until one day he killed somebody and ended in the penitentiary. When he shot me I jumped at him with my knife. They told me I killed him and they put me in the penitentiary... (55), because Troy was young and not experience in life he made a huge mistake in robbing for a living and in doing so he killed a man: Troy stained his hands with another person s blood. He turned those actions around, he was disappointed of who he was at that young age and he stopped being a theif. In those 15 years in the penintiary he learned to play baseball too and became excellent at it. That s what I was a robber. I ll tell you the truth. I m ashamed of it today. But it s the truth. (54). At Troy s older age is when he realized that his past life was wrong but he now has a true job and a right way to sustain his family. Another flaw of Troy is to cheat on his wife Rose with a lady Alberta. At this time of the play Troy is in his 50s and he hurts his wife telling her he will be somebody else s daddy. • 38. Discretion In Police Discretion According to Dempsey et al (2016), Discretion means the availability of a choice of options or actions one can take in a situation (p. 142). An example of when police discretion was not used in a controlled and regulated manner was when Mr. Samuel Dubose was shot and killed on July 19, 2015, over his front license plate missing on the vehicle he was driving. Mr. Dubose was driving just south of University of Cincinnati around 6:30 p.m. when Officer Tensing began following him (Capehart, 2015). The university police share jurisdiction with city officers on streets around the campus (Capehart, 2015). However, where the driver was pulled over and killed at was outside of the shared jurisdiction. According to Capehart (2015), The University of Cincinnati police officerRay Tensing lied about the events leading up to the shooting and the officer s body worn camera exposed the truth of what really happened that day. In the video, the officer is asking Mr. Dubose repeatedly for his driver s license . Mr. Dubose replies that he has a driver s license but does not have it with him. Mr. Dubose also states that the missing license plate is in the glove box. Officer Tensing asks, What s that bottle on the floor? Mr. Dubose reaches down, picks up the bottle of gin and gives it to the officer (Capehart, 2015). The officer starts to open the driver s door and tells Mr. Dubose to remove his safety belt; Mr. Dubose pulls the door closed and restarts his car. The officer steps to his ... In this poem I attempted to mimic Maya in that I spoke of a topic that was deeply important to me, told a story, and expressed my opinions. I noticed that Maya s writing as well as other Post Modern/Contemporary poets write about issues they deem important, or feelings, moreover, how to put feelings into words. Slam Poetryis often an extreme example of this, and has come into popularity in the Post Modern and Contemporary Era. • 41. Using The New Ideas And Strategies I Have Gained Essay The Digital Student In order to understand the ways in which I plan to use the new ideas and strategies I have gained in the Digital Student course, you must first understand my teaching placements. Each school day I teach in two vastly different settings. In the morning I teach at an urban high school. We have roughly twelve hundred and fifty students. At my high school, we face all of the challenges you find in an urban setting. Sixty one percent of our students are economically challenged. Many of my students work in the evening to help out at home or to have spending money. Attendance is a concern. Attending school regularly is an issue with many of my students. We also have a large population of special needs students. Twenty two percent of our students have disabilities. The subject I teach at the high school is junior/senior level Earth and Space Science. I teach three sections and have a total of sixty four students in my classes. My course fulfills the third year of the science graduation requirement for many of my students. Accessing technology in my school can be challenging. We do not have one to one computer access for our students. We have one computer lab, one library computer lab and Chromecarts. The Chromecarts are frequently out of circulation because of their use in testing and in our credit recovery classes. This year I have been experimenting with the flipped classroom model. Therefore, I surveyed my students for computer access at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Reflection On Math Lesson What? For my second lesson, I taught a math lesson on multiplying decimals with zeros in the product. I wanted students to be able to show that they could multiply with decimals in the product and I wanted them to be able to explain how they know where to add the decimal point in the answer. This lesson was part of the unit over decimals. Students will learn to add them, subtract, multiply, divide, and then take a test for the unit. I decided to teach this lesson because this is what my teacher had planned for the day and needed me to teach to keep her on track for the test. Honestly, I was excited to teach a math lesson because it was a great refresher for me. Overall, I was very satisfied with the way the lesson went. The students were understanding the instruction I delivered and were giving the answers I had hoped for. The students were on task and engaged for the entire lesson and when they weren t engaged, I could draw or mention sticks and I would get more active participation. Before I asked students to work independently or with a partner, I modeled exactly what they should be doing and how they should do it. This made a huge difference from my first lesson because there was no confusion. When I had one students come up to the board and share their answer, everyone in the class had the same answer. While I was formatively checking their understanding, this told me that the way I was teachingwas working because they all understood the problem. I really can not think of anything that did not go as I had planned or that I was not happy with. Although, there was one point where my math was wrong because I was not thinking logically. I need to make sure I slow down while I am teaching to check my own work so I am not teaching the students incorrect information! The only change I would try and make if I taught this lesson again would be to find a way to make it more engaging and less teaching instruction out of the book. I feel that with math this is sometimes challenging, but I think it could be done. Even though I did use multiple means of representation by doing a whole class discussion, partner work, and independent work, I could have found maybe a more hands on activity for the students to ... R D creates externalities and is a public good, its sale or use does not preclude others using it and can be consumed by many without lessening its value (indeed we will argue that the greater the use of it, in many cases the higher its value). It is difficult to price ideas to sell since this requires revealing them and avoid the need to pay. Firms with innovations to sell are therefore unable to do so. There are of course some caveats to these problems. Only firms which are already well informed in the relevant R D are able to understand and exploit such research innovations ie developments in research knowledge, although difficult to exclude others from knowing, are in fact difficult to understand and develop further without the necessary absorptive capacity (Cohen and Levinthal 1990). Only those people with considerable investment already in that area will be able to carry the ideas forward and exploit them. Hence only those firms with substantial existing R D departments will be in a position to commercialize the new research innovations of another producer. Problems of appropriability are essentially about the low costs of transmitting information and if these costs turn out to be high, then appropriability as a problem diminishes. Another caveat to the seriousness of the appropriability problem is that firms with innovations benefit from being first in the field with information and capture rents ... Dramatic Justice In Tartuffe By Myrna Zwillenberg Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg s article Dramatic Justice in Tartuffe examines the all powerful king s theatrical resolution of the story of Tartuffe . Zwillenberg writes It is so unexpected as to cast doubt upon the dramatic coherence of the entire comedy (583). Zwillenberg concludes that the deus ex machina (583) ending not only brings closure to the stories of Orgon and Tartuffe, but also restores the comedic equilibrium that is upset by Tartuffe throughout the play. I agree in full with Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg s assertion that the conclusion to Tartuffe brings a fitting end to the play in both dramatics and comedy. Zwillenberg begins by examining the injustice of Tartuffe and Orgon s actions. Zwillenberg writes Dramatic justice... would seem to necessitate the punishment of Orgon and the hypocrite (584) Mariane is unfairly given to marry Tartuffe. If Orgon s family were to triumph in judgement over Tartuffe, there are no consequences for Orgon s unjust actions towards his family.
