Examples Of Supernatural Elements In A Very Old Man With...
In the short story A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, combines both
supernatural and natural events in a confusing, unexpected but yet inspiring way that makes us wonder
how we would respond if a supernatural event had happen in our front yard. From combining an
ordinary day to rainy days and greedy community, with an amazing supernatural, an angel, who takes
in cruelty, strengthen itself and flies away, Marquez successfully uses unique styles and creative tones
to create a short story that would carry essentials of our daily routine in our lives and succeeds. With
the right mindset, Marquez invites us to look closer in our lives and determine whether the normal and
not so normal events could be change.
At the beginning of the story the tone is set with a natural event where a ... Show more content on

For example, when Father Gonzaga notices that the angel was more of a human form than an angel.
Everything we ve vision how an angel would be is the exact opposite of how the old man is presenting
himself. But as we look closely, the old man s character sends us a hint of an angel, which is patience.
From being locked up in a chicken coop and being poked as if he was in a zoo, he deals with the
cruelty and doesn t fight back at all. He sits there and deals with it. This could be a sign of an angel s
quality, dealing with such disturbing cruel treatment in a calm way.
At the end of the story, as the angel deals with such cruelty, he is finally awarded with new feathers. I
believe that the action of story matches the tone and setting. The cold winter is over and a new life is
approaching. Like most angels, the old man s new feathers aren t so impressive, look more like
another misfortune of decrepitude, (Marquez 403) but with new feathers, he is

The Similarities And Differences Between The Empires Of...
The Roman Empire was from 200 B.C.E to 200 CE located in Rome, now called Greece. And there is
the Persian Empire that lasted from 553 B.C.E to 330 B.C.E, which was located in Iran, north of the
Persian Gulf. Even though the empires thrived during different time periods, they both had a well built
and expanded empire and how they treated people. At the same time, they also had very opposing
ideas of who was in charge of the empire and how they ruled the government. Other differences, were
that the two empires believed in contrasting religions and how it spreads to another region. Although
different, both beliefs had the support of a government. There are many differences between the
empires of Persia and Rome. The empires had different views

The Key Causes For Tax Evasion
People can be driven to behave recklessly if an outcome is well supported by incentives. The
motivational aspect of an outcome is exactly what pushes companies and individuals alike to perform
a task that they would normally not do. Motivation is the key cause for tax evasion, since it helps
avoid a massive proportion of expenses that would generally be incurred. As illustrated by the case
study that was provided by the Australian Financial Review, a small number of people do heavy tax
lifting as opposed to the rest of the population. This means that there are a few people that earn a
significant amount of money and due to progressive tax rates, the overall amount of tax that this small
group of individuals would have to pay would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept has shown prominence through every stage of business evolution and has still remained
as an essential factor that every business in the modern generation strives to achieve. Profit not only
shows a company s efficient performance, but it also dictates how the company will be accepted
within a society. This is supported by Friedman (1962, pp.23), as he mentions that ethical
compromises can be made to achieve greater goals. Since the most fundamental goal of every business
organisation is to earn profits and succeed amongst their competitors, it can be agreed that companies
would be willing to sacrifice a certain amount of ethical decision making. The opportunity cost in this
case is preferable for the people that would want to give up a portion of their ethical mindset to earn a
larger profit share for their own selfish career oriented desires. (Lincoln, Pressley, Little, 1982,
pp.476).
Taking the aforementioned fact that profit is main goal of a company into consideration, it is crucial to
understand that accounting is the crux of every business organisation. The Conceptual Framework
clearly states that all information within financial reports should be free of bias and material error, i.e.
the information must be

Macbeth Soliloquy Analysis
In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the most famous passage is Macbeth s soliloquy after
Lady Macbeth commits suicide. The scene is very intense for Macbeth, because England s forces are
advancing on his castle, his wife killed herself, and he just witnessed one of the witches predictions
about his death starting to come true. This passage is a very moving part of the play because it reflects
Macbeth s view of his approaching death by summarizing the play by referring to past events, creating
woeful mood through its imagery, and developing the theme of time. In his soliloquy, Macbeth refers
to several important lines that were said in earlier parts of the play, which makes this passage moving
because it manages to summarize the key points of an entire play within a few lines. The quote
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow / Creeps in this petty pace from day to day (5.5.22 23) alludes
to Macbeth frequently putting off important situations for later because he does not want to deal with
them yet, or feels as if it would expose him of his foul deeds. For instance, when Banquo wants to talk
about King Duncan s murder, Macbeth says, But of that tomorrow, / When therewithal we shall have
cause of state / Craving us jointly (3.1.36 38). Now as death is approaching Macbeth, he reflects on all
of the things that he had put off that lead him to where he is now, and how he has run out of
tomorrows to spend because there will no longer be any for him once he dies. This has a large impact
on the audience because these lines give insight to the harsh reality that one day we will not be able to
complete the things that we meant to do, and that although human beings tend to think that there will
always be tomorrow , that can be easily taken away from someone. This development of a grim mood
is continued throughout the passage by the use of dark imagery. The phrase Life s but a walking
shadow (5.5.27) depicts life as something empty and meaningless by using a metaphor to compare it
to a shadow. Another use of a metaphor is seen where Shakespeare compares life to a play in the
quote, Life s but a / walking shadow, a poor player / That struts and frets his hour upon the stage / And
then is heard no more

Merced Community Benefit Analysis
Even though the price of native plants and trees are more expensive than usual, there are many
existing companies that support people to plant the native plants and trees such as giving away the
grant and seed for the volunteer. As a Merced resident, I found out the solution to achieve the native
plants and trees by applying for the volunteer in order to grant money and seeds from other private
supporters. Since those supporters offer everything for people to do so, why don t people accept those
offers? With that in mind, since the native plants and trees are highly expensive than usual, the support
from free grants and seeds could be the solution for Merced people to restoring the native plants and
trees in order to create a healthier environment. In September 2016, the State of California had
allocated $1.2 billion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, I was wondering what does it actually mean. The description is explaining the government
offers grants to gardening projects, which can be beneficial to the community. In other words, the
government is giving away the money to gardening the society where we live. Because planting is
always bifacial to the environment. In fact, the government hands out $10 billion subsidies per month,
which has many unclaimed subsidies which most people may qualify. Throughout the application, the
volunteer must illustrate that his or her proposal will benefit the community, such as planting the
native plants, then you have a chance to receive a free grant. Since it is a grant, you don t have to
payback, all is yours. However, the grant system from the government is operated by the (USDA),
which has several opportunities including the garden grant which I am mentioning, but has more
clearly explanation of how to qualify. Nevertheless, they have several opportunities as a result of
several qualifications either, it s depending on which one the volunteer wants to do

The Effect Of Oxygen On The Heart Rate
The results obtained for this experiment were somewhat expected as the results had reflected to the
theory. While the composition of oxygen in air remains constant only the atmospheric pressure to
decrease with altitude. The respiration pattern should have shown a more frequent incidence of trough
and crest, but the amplitude decreased with the increasing elevation, as the oxygen molecules
contained in each breathe are low. Since less oxygen are presented the oxygen and carbon dioxide
should decrease with increasing altitude. Equally since more breathe are taken to allow the body to be
oxygenated, the heart would need to work faster and to allow such occurrence. These ideas correlates
to the results obtained, as with increasing elevation the heart rate increased from 88 beat/min to 104
beat/min at rest and the 19.8% to 18.0%, 147711.6ppm to 130739.6ppm, oxygen and carbon dioxide
respectively, when condition had remained the same (pre exercise). As one exercised, regardless of the
altitude, component such as heart rate carbon dioxide should have increased and that oxygen and
breathing pattern to decrease. This is because the heart will need to pump more blood and use more
oxygen thus increasing the production of carbon dioxide. Additionally the body would act to the
oxygen deficiency, hence resulting in a decrease in breathing pressure. These ideas can be correlate to
the results as on table, as an exercise was performed the heart rate had increased to 109 beats/min, the

How Did Van Eyck Became An Artist
Though not much is known about Van Eyck during his earlier life. It is said that he either decided after
a while to go to art school after being influenced by his brother Herbert van Eyck. Another thought is
while growing up with his brother Herbert, he decided to learn art but it is thought that he did not have
enough money for art school so he spent many years studying under his brother. The main reason that
Van Eyck became an artist way that he grew up with around 5 brothers and 5 sisters and all of them
were artists so that s the most likely reason he became an artist. So Van Eyck grew up with near 5
brothers and 5 sisters and they were all artists. We don t know when he was born exactly but we do
know that he grew up in a town called Maaseik.

Modernism Versus Postmodernism
Modernism vs. Postmodernism
Post modernism follows and shares many of the same ideas as modernism. Though, at the same time,
they differ in many ways. These distinctions can be seen in the two works of literature, Death of a
Salesman by Arthur Miller and Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet. Death of a Salesman
represents the modernist literature. Modernism is a style of literature that came about after World War
I in Europe. It emerged in the United States in the late 1920s. Modernism was the response to the
commotion, which occurred during World War I. The narrator in the play is limited and omniscient; he
or she observes the thoughts and actions of Willy, Biff, and other central characters in the story, a type
of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the play, it is seen that money drives people to do crazy things and only leads to their downfall.
Postmodernism proves to embrace the low culture, where the idea of elite, power, and money is not as
important. Trying to make meaning becomes impossible and repressive and millions die in desire to
create a great collective. Postmodernism is more accepting in regards to chaos. The idea of being okay
in a world where there are no universal truths had become accepted. This can be seen in the play,
because no characters are represented as true. They are living in a false world. This false world is
made up of a false business with false leads and false people trying to sell them. When Shelly steals
the leads, he is not doing anything different, because the leads are non existent, imaginary properties
that he stole to steal the money of other people, so in reality he is not stealing something of value and
can relate to the rest of the characters. With this example, it is also seen that sympathy flows around.
Mamet allows reader s to like and relate to Shelley in some instances, like when he needs the money
for his daughter, but at the same time Marnet allows us to dislike Shelley at some instances, because
of his lying, scamming, and stealing. Our sympathy moves for different

The Pros And Cons Of An Entrepreneur
Entrepreneur is the individual who starts a business with new products or services with lots of
freedom and faces different risk of failures. On the other hand intrapreneur is the individual who
works under the entrepreneur as an employee. Though the intrapreneur is given the authority of
creating new product, he does not faces any risk of failure of generating revenue and profit by those
products.
According to a research body entrepreneur bears all risk of a business because he collects necessary
resources or capital from various sources and also gives guarantees to repay whereas the intrapreneur
does not bears any risk because he does not have any responsibility to raise fianace and to repay those
(Clarysse and Kiefer, 2011). Another research body says that an entrepreneur has no relationship with
the firm but since intrapreneur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the time of generating idea of new products or services or formation of the firm, an
entrepreneur must think about the culture of a country. To establish or to operate any business in a
country the entrepreneur must follow that country s culture. Without considering the culture if he
produces any product, that product will not be sold in the market (Diederichs, 2008). And usually the
company will make loss. Research department says that, culture is a sympathetic part of the
consumers. Though they sometime accept other culture, most of the time they try to follow it. Another
argument is the entrepreneur should government s rule and regulation to launch a business firm.
Governments have different rules and regulation to different kinds of business such as tax regulation,
laws for employee, etc. So, to launch a business entrepreneur must follow the government s rules and
regulations. James Dyson has followed government s rules when he launched his business named
Dyson Company. Dyson Company pays tax to the government. It also follows the employee laws and

Forced Vital Capacity Case Study
Purpose and Prediction In this study I am observing the effects of gender on forced vital capacity
(FVC) and the relationship between torso length, height, and torso/height ratio on forced vital
capacity. To look at FVC I am interested in looking at the largest amount of air a person can forcefully
exhale and continue exhaling for 6 seconds after breathing in as deeply as a person can. If gender has
an effect on FVC then males will have a greater FVC than the FVC of females. If there is a correlation
between height and FVC, then as height increases so will FVC. If there is a correlation between torso
length and FVC then the longer a torso the greater the FVC will be. If there is a correlation between

Unlawful Dismissal Case
In the first instance there is enough evidence for an unlawful dismissal, in this case the summary
dismissal was not handled correctly which by default becomes unlawful dismissal. Summary dismissal
is where the employee has been dismissed without notice because of something they have done has
destroyed the employment relationship (Fair Work Commission, 2015). In Larry s case there has been
a breach of general protections which requires a notice period at dismissal. Examining the
circumstance Larry s extremely low test readings, and no prior knowledge to the policy the
consequence of being summarily dismissed is not warranted other action should be taken to handle the

This remedy may occur in a situation where an employee s actions are deemed to have contributed to
the loss of employment, but their dismissal was still considered unfair in the circumstances. This
occurred in Christopher Toms v Harbour City Ferries Pty Ltd as the commission found, before the
appeal into his reinstatement occur, that he should incur some penalty for breach of the policy he was
not awarded his lost wages. The aim of compensatory award is to compensate the employee for any
loss of earning and other direct losses as a result of the unfair dismissal. The award is such amount the
tribunal considers just and equitable in all the circumstances. Under section 232 of the Act, the
maximum amount of compensation that can be awarded is capped at the lesser of six months pay or
half income threshold. Conclusion If Larry Marshall were to apply for unfair dismissal from LPHC he
would be successful in his application. One, LPHC did not follow the correct procedures when
terminating the employment. Two, LPHC did not give a fair go all round insufficient weight to the fact
was given. Larry will apply to be reinstated as a tactical move, if LPHC declines that on a broken

The Open Boat Essay
MAN VS. NATURE
None of them knew the color of the sky. This first sentence in Stephen Crane s The Open Boat implies
the overall relationship between the individual and nature. This sentence also implies the limitations of
anyone s perspective. The men in the boat concentrate so much on the danger they are in, that they are
oblivious and unaware to everything else; in other words, maybe lacking experience. The Open Boat
begins with a description of four men aboard a small boat on a rough sea. The central theme of this
story is about confronting Nature itself. The Open Boat is Stephen Crane s account from an outsider s
point of view of the two days spent in a small boat. The correspondent is autobiographical in ... Show

This statement may suggest the meaningless or irrelevance of an individual s sense of self importance
against the power of nature. The human voyage into life is basically uncontrollable and unpredictable.
In the beginning, the men in the boat view nature as evil and unjust; nature s own personal vendetta.
Since the crew on a dangerous sea without hope are depicted as the babes of the sea, we can assume
that we are likely to be unknowing strangers in the universe. In addition to the danger we face, we
have to also overcome the new challenges of the waves in daily life. These waves are most wrongfully
and barbarously abrupt and tall, requiring a new leap, and a leap. Are we powerless against nature?
Can we control our own fate? Although the men struggle to survive and make it to shore, we never
really know until the end, if they are going to drown. Their fate seems to fall into the hands of forces
beyond their control. A perfect example is when the correspondent gets caught in a current while
trying to swim to shore. He is trapped by an invisible force, a current, which he can not understand or
escape. Suddenly, the current frees him, and he is washed ashore by a huge wave. This is an
unexpected turn of events being that the strongest rower, the oiler, does not survive yet he seemed the
most physically able and the most determined to survive. The correspondent, troubled by his
impressions and realities, learns that nature is

The Consequences Of Police Discretion In The Police
Police are what is known as street level bureaucrats. This basically means that police are civil servants
working on the street level in direct contact with the general public enforcing the laws of the local,
state and federal law. Police officers work alone or with a partner patrolling the streets within their
beat, therefor they are given a lot of discretion with their title. Discretionary judgment is necessary for
a well functioning police department, but it must be demonstrated properly in order to have positive
outcomes. A police officers ability to use discretion properly can help build the relationship between
law enforcement and the community, but if officers abuse their discretionary judgment then it can lead
to decisional influences / biases (Dempsey pg. 144, 2018). A few solutions have been implemented in
order to counteract / remove these discretionary negatives. Police officers have always possessed the
powers to exercise discretionary judgment ever since they have had the ability to enforce the law.
Discretion within the police force is defined as the officers freedom to make a choice based on the
situation (Young, 2011). However, it has come to light in recent decades that many officers abuse their
powers of discretion, especially with their use of force. This is especially a problem today because
police officers are being monitored every second as departments start incorporating dash cameras and
body cameras. With new video surveillance brings forward the question of whether or not police are
given too much freedom when it comes to discretionary judgment. One of the biggest reasons police
are permitted to demonstrate discretionary judgment is because when it is applied correctly it builds a
positive relationship between law enforcement and the community. The idea is that if officers are too
strict on the law then there would be too many arrest and it wouldn t always allow the officer to act in
a just manner. Discretionary judgment is necessary for law enforcement to function properly because
no two situations are the exact same therefor officers must apply discretion as needed to the situation
they are experiencing. The debate over police discretion typically comes up after

An Antagonist Of Vitamin And Its Effect On The Formation...
All three of the drugs being studied do to some degree affect fundamental processes within a
coagulation cascade .
If one of the in vivo processes is altered within the cascade the cycle cannot complete with the
formation of Thrombin. [Figure 2]
Warfarin is an antagonist of vitamin K used to treat reoccurrence of DVT and pulmonary embolisms.
Stenflo Nelsestuen, 1974 showed prothrombin the precursor to thrombin to contain a number of
glutamate residues relating to the amino acid γ carboxyglutamic acid (Gla). Antagonism in the
production of this residue by Warfarin is the key reason for its anticoagulant action and is shown in
red in [Figure 1].

Enoxaparin is a parenteral low molecular weight heparin used in the treatment of venous
thromboembolisms. (Hirsch et al, 2001) Its mode of action is to increase the rate of antithrombin
(ATlll) a suicide substrate for proteases. Inhibition is brought about as protease cleaves select Arg Ser
peptide bonds in the centre becoming fixed in a stable 1:1 complex. This in turn renders (Factor Xa)
which sits at the junction of the extrinsic and intrinsic pathways inactive. This further disrupts the
cascade cycle as Xa can no longer separate prothrombin into the desired thrombin needed for fibrogen
formation.
Apixaban is an oral reversible medicament taken primarily for prevention of stroke and systemic
embolisms for those with atrial fibrillation. It is used commonly in post operative orthopaedic surgery
(AHFS, 2014). Similarly to Enoxaparin, Apixaban is a direct inhibitor of Xa and follows the same
process of inhibition as Enoxaparin.
Both Enoxaparin and Apixaban affect the coagulation cascade much later on in the mechanism than
that of Warfarin and thus have a faster onset of effect: Enoxaparin (Tmax)= 15mins and Apixaban
(Tmax)= 1 3 hours, with Warfarin (Tmax)= 24 48 hours. (BMA, 2008) This is particulary useful in
emergencies to prevent further clotting when a clot has already reached the lungs or brain for example.

The Real Tragic Hero Of Sophocles Antigone

The Real Tragic Hero in the Play Antigone A tragic hero according to Aristotle is someone who is of
high nobility, and has a major internal character flaw. That flaw will eventually by the characters
ultimate demise which is most likely death. If their demise doesn t end in a death the tragic hero
usually goes through a catharsis. The most common flaws of a tragic hero are hubris, pride, and
stubbornness. Tragic heroes can be found throughout most tragedy themed plays and they can help the
audience relate or feel for the character has they go through there ups and downs throughout majority
of the play. An example of play that has a definite tragic hero is the play Antigone by Sophocles.
Antigone and Creon are both the main characters in this play but only one is the true tragic hero of this
play. Creon perfectly fits majority of a tragic hero definition according to Aristotle. Antigone barely
meets a few of the aspects of a tragic hero, which is why tragic hero of the play Antigone by
Sophocles is Creon the King of Thebes.
Around the fifth century B.C. tragedies were a very new and popular form of playwriting amongst the
people of Ancient Greece. One of the first playwrights of Ancient Greece that mastered the art of
writing tragedies was the well know Sophocles. One of Sophocles famous plays is called Oedipus the

Below I have summarized an explanation to the questions that came about during your examination of
a subsidiary that has been set up as a corporation.
The methodology used to determine deferred taxes.
The deferred taxes reported are a temporary difference. The deferred taxes were calculated based on
what needed to be reported versus what has been posted to the corporations books. The temporary
difference is the difference between the tax basis of an asset or liability and its reported (carrying or

The Pros And Cons Of Smoking
I work security full time at a computer company located in Norman, Oklahoma. Here, we have a no
smoking policy, which means smoking is not allowed, even outside. If an employee wanted to smoke,
then he or she would have to leave the property. This policy change happened some years ago, when
someone from human resources (H.R.) saw employees standing in front of the entrance, as he or she
was trying to enter, smoking cigarettes. Me personally, I agree with this policy. I feel that those of us
who don t smoke shouldn t have to suffer for those who do. But the main reason I agree with this
policy is because it s said that second hand smoking is just as dangerous as first hand smoking and it
can even lead to cancer. Is second hand smoke really that dangerous?
What is second hand smoke? Second hand smoke (also called environmental tobacco smoke,
involuntary smoke, and passive smoke) is the combination of sidestream smoke (the smoke given off
by a burning tobacco product) and mainstream smoke (the smoke exhaled by a smoker). People can be
exposed to second hand smoke in homes, cars, the workplace, and public places, such as bars,
restaurants, and recreational settings. In the United States, the source of most second hand smoke is
from cigarettes, followed by pipes, cigars, and other tobacco products. The amount of smoke created
by a tobacco product depends on the amount of tobacco available for burning. The amount of second
hand smoke emitted by smoking one large

My Lai Massacre In the town of My Lai on March 16, 1968 was not a day you would be wanting to

children. We were too do this in the command of Lt. William L. This massacre included of burning of
the villages and poisoning the wells to wipe everything out that belonged to the enemy. Including all
live stock, the village was to be burnt to nothing.Lieutenant Calley was the one who was in charge of
this getting done and made it happen. When they got to the village they came to discover there was
mostly women and children so they killed them. They would also kill the babies with pistols. We also

Integrating complexity science concepts into the examination of L.R. s transition process presents a

L.S. s self organization of new patterns that have emerged through this transition is his desire to get

According to Geary Schumacher (2012), emergence cannot be predicted. Therefore, we can only
speculate how the emergence of new patterns of behaviors is going to develop as this transition
unfolds. This transition is a change in environment and autonomy and as he interacts and self
organizes in response to these changes. It is unpredictable to know how his new behaviors are going to
emerge, but the overall speculation is that a positive pattern of behaviors will emerge based on his
fixed delusion of military discharge. This is based on many interactions and conversations with L.R.
while at 1NW and during his discharge. L.R. is experiencing many complex changes in the transition
from 1NW to Bridgeview. Prior to this transition, the emergence of the types of patterns of behaviors
and physical symptoms of this new level of autonomy were evaluated. It is speculated that this
complete contextual change will likely result in positive changes due availability of support and

Relativism And The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a universal document that is likely acceptable
and applicable for everyone. The UDHR identifies basic human rights that are based on the theory of
Universalism. On the other hand, relativist claims that human rights are culturally dependent, and that
no moral values can be made to apply to all cultures. Second notion is the UDHR are product of
western political perspectives, such as Magna Carta of the UK, the American Bill of Rights, and the
French revolution. Looking at these different theories about relativism from the Kevin Avruch s piece
of reading, I believe that all three forms of relativism (descriptive, normative, and epistemic)
contradicts the claim by the principles of the UDHR.
Avruch says that descriptive relativism is the acknowledgement of differences rooted in culture or, as

The Pros And Cons Of US Immigration
On Monday March 6, President Donald Trump signed a revised executive order that bans immigration
from six Muslim countries, including Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, and Sudan. The previous
executive order also included Iraq, but was dropped due to the state s significant role in the war on
ISIS. This order also bans all refugees from coming into the United States for 120 days for the purpose
of stronger security in the U.S. But, there are a few flaws in this ban, like the fact that the none of the
six countries have committed a terrorist act on U.S. soil in the past 40 years (Gibbs). The ban will
prove to be more unsuccessful overall than effective in strengthening the national security. Trump s

When you talk to the laity, you must understand that they are not going to understand very much
Greek (if any at all), so it is rarely fruitful to bring in any Greek terminology except for the Greek
word itself. For example, if I tell my audience that the Greek word σεσῳσμένοι is a Perfect Participle
Passive verb, some of them might think I am speaking in tongues. It is important to actually

they are continually in the process of being saved, and show them from my own study, in an

Analysis Of Jerry Sandusky Scandal
In 2011 head coach Joe Paterno of Pennsylvania State University was fired after a scandal involving
Jerry Sandusky brought to light allegations of child sexual abuse that had been in the shadows for as
many as 30 plus years without any discipline. After Sandusky was found guilty and sentenced to 30 60
years, some question whether this incident could have been prevented and why it was kept secret for
so many years. The Sandusky scandal is a good example of a concept called Groupthink proposed by
Irvan Janis (1982) that describes a dysfunctional group process that can occur when group members
focus on being cohesive, do not express disagreement or think critically, and as a result, make bad
decisions . In my paper I will highlight the concepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do believe that had college football leadership been less uniform and remembered the fact that the
lives affected by these scandals were more important than the game of football, there may have been
less victims, and the resulting consequences would have been far less severe. The majority of
historical scandals involving college football involve paying football players, cheating, and in some
cases more severe allegations of sexual misconduct like those of Penn State and Nebraska. Nebraska
had allegations of multiple players playing watch out while another player raped multiple victims.
Many colleges have been caught in scandal only to repeat the same scandal over and over until the
NCAA drops the ball on them. Coaches are known to have the attitude that wins are more important
than anything else. Perhaps this culture comes from the high turnover level of coaches who fail to
present a winning team. It is not only the coaches but teammates as well who feel they need to keep
quiet in difficult situations. In the NFL, other examples like Tom Brady s deflate gate, Adrian Peterson
s child abuse case, and Ray Rice s domestic violence case, are all examples of teammates and team
staff knowing about certain situations and either not caring or pushing things under the rug only to win
games. It only takes one whistleblower to report incidents that are criminal in nature and protect

Essay On Kerkoff And Davis Filter Theory
Describe and Evaluate two theories of the formation of romantic relationships Kerckoff and Davis
(1962) presented a form of relationship formation theory known as the filter model. They believed that
we have three filters that are important at different times before we can enter a relationship. We start
with a field of availables , those who are free for relationships and gradually narrow them down using
different stages to a field of desirables, and those who we would consider as potential partners. The
first filter is the social and demographic variables where we tend to pick people with similar
educational and economic background to us. The second filter is the similarity of attitudes and values,
where people with different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Gruber Baldini et al (1995) found that couples who were similar were more likely to be
together 20 years later, suggesting that similarity continues to be important. That strengthen the
validity of the experiment. Furthermore, Kerchkoff used a student population in his study therefore
this research may not be generalised to older or different members of society and adult relationship
formation. In addition, the Filter theory fails to take into account individual differences. In real life,
people give importance to different factors. The filter model is a 3 stage theory ,which makes it quite
artificial and fails to capture the dynamics and fluency of relationships. In real life, relationships
change and develop, some flow faster/slower and these factors cannot fit neatly into stages. Therefore
the filter theory can t be applied to all relationships and is an incomplete explanation for relationship
formation. Moreover, the filter model is reductionist as it simplifies complex relationships down to
three stages. There is more to relationships than the theory states as the filter theory fails to explain
love and other factors that may lead to the formation of relationships. Also the social demographic
filter may be less important today as we have greater mobility and the ability to make contact and stay
in touch electronically

Pros And Cons Of Living In A Dystopian Society
Introduction
Utopias and dystopias are both literary genres that explore the social and political
structures of a specific society.
A utopia is a perfect world or paradise. It is an imaginary place where there is no poverty,
disease, discrimination or war. Utopias consist of peaceful governments that have ideal economic
and social conditions. All citizens are equal, there is access to education, and healthcare, and the
environment is safe for all that live there.
A dystopia is the opposite of utopia; it is an imperfect world where things have gone
wrong. In a dystopian world people are usually controlled by an oppressive government. The
government uses lies and propaganda to control the minds of the citizens. Many things are ... Show

naturally long lives, hundreds of years, in peace, in love, and at one with nature. The defining
characteristic is inner peace, love, and a sense of purpose for those that can find it.
Another example of a utopia is The Giver by Lois Lowery. The Giver is the story of a
boy named Jonas that lives in a community that has converted to Sameness. In order to preserve
structure and order, things like color, climate, and memory, have been eradicated. Jonas is the
one person that has been chosen to store all the memories from the past, of the time before
Sameness. Jonas experiences a multitude of new thoughts, feelings and experiences as the
Receiver of Memory and he has to decide what to do with his new found knowledge. The
defining characteristic is that everyone is equal.

Change Of Identity In I Am Not Esther By Fleur Beale
The novel, I am not Esther, written by Fleur Beale follows Kirby Greenland, a fourteen year old girl,
who is suddenly abandoned by her mother. Kirby is then forced to live with family members she has
never met before in an unfamiliar, religious community with strict rules and regulations. During her
time in the community, also considered as a cult , Kirby faced the challenges of identity change and
loss as well as abandonment and isolation. This helped me develop a deep understanding of Kirby and
how she undergoes a large character development throughout the text. Firstly, I gained an
understanding of Kirby and her character development through how she dealt with her loss and change
of identity. When Kirby first entered the community, she is stripped of her belongings and even her
name they give her a new biblical name of Esther . This made Kirby feel outraged and like her identity
had just been attacked. Kirby faces this challenge by reproaching the change instantly. I know this
because she says I m Kirby, not Esther for God s sake. This showed me that Kirby is sure of her
identity and would disobey the community to act in a way which is true to herself. However, after
spending so much time with unfamiliar people and in an unfamiliar environment, Kirby questions
whether she is Kirby or Esther, seeing her two self consciousness as two separate beings. Kirby is
asked by Mrs Fletcher, the guidance counsellor whom she enlisted help from, what she wished to be
called.

The Pros And Cons Of Active Euthanasia
The American Medical Association states that passive euthanasia (letting die) is morally permissible.
However, active euthanasia (assisting patients die) is never morally permissible because it s like
killing the patient instead of letting the patient die naturally. Active euthanasia, is taking a direct action
to kill a patient and on the other hand, passive euthanasia, is withholding treatments to let the patient
die (letting die). Rachels (1975) disagrees with the American Medical Association because he supports
active euthanasia contrary to the position of this body. According to Rachels, active euthanasia
reduces the pain of the patients who would otherwise die even without the injection. In other words,
there are no significant differences between letting a person die and killing a person, who will still
perish in the end. Rachels refutes the claim of the American Medical Association that does not support
intentional termination of the life of the patient or what is referred to as mercy killing. In her view,
doctors only uphold their legal mandate by not engaging in the mercy killing and ignoring their moral
duty to ensure the patient die without pain. The doctors only seek to avoid legal responsibility by
letting the patient die instead of killing the patient. Alternatively, passive euthanasia allows the patient
to die naturally while the active one requires the doctor to take action to terminate the life of the
patient. As such, by allowing the patient to die, the

The Long Run Consequences Of Slow Economic Recovery After...
Abstract This research examined and listed some of the evidence demonstrating the long run
consequences of slow economic recovery after periods of recessions in the U.S. economy on wage
earners of a four person family. Economy shifts were examined and its effect on the four member
family, two adult wage earners, and two children was analyzed. This trend and shift of and within the
economy contributed to the overall wholeness and well being of the family. As a rising economy
produced family stability and productive home environments, a declining economy produced
insecurity and a negative home environment. Whether negative or positive, the economy attributed to

Mass Shootings
Over this past decade, an increase in mass shootings has raised a concern in the control of firearms.
With the ever growing number of shootings, the death rate due to firearms has intensified. Thus, the
controversy over gun control has caused society to push the government to re evaluate the regulation
of firearms in the United States. Hence, in order to keep and provide a safe environment for American
citizens without fear of death by firearm, the government should regulate firearms.
According to the Second Amendment, it states, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed (Lund and
Winkler). With that said, most civilians do not possess firearms ... Show more content on

The comparison between the two states show how drastically gun regulations can influence the death
rate by firearms. In the state of Wyoming, firearm sellers are not required to check gun owner
backgrounds. Therefore, gun owners are not obligated to register their guns or have a gun license.
That is to say, there is little to no gun regulations in Wyoming giving it the number one spot in the
highest gun related deaths. On the other hand, Massachusetts has the laws that regulate the possession,
sale, and use of firearms and ammunition. Once the applicant has sent in their application for a guns
permit or license, the applicant must wait 40 days in which the authorities may deny or grant them
permission to carry a firearm ( Concealed Weapons ). As stated by the Law Center to Prevent Gun
Violence, Massachusetts is a may issue state for the issuance of licenses to carry firearms, meaning
that the local licensing authority has discretion in determining whether or not to issue either license
type to an applicant ( Concealed Weapons ). In this case, Massachusetts is significantly stricter than
Wyoming and any other state in the country. Thus, with its strict gun laws, it has the lowest gun
related death rate and is ranked as fifty on the charts of gun related deaths (Hendry 2015). This further

The Myths of Families Essay
Question 1: In The Way We Never Were, Stephanie Coontz suggests that society romanticizes past
generations of family life and points out that these memories are merely myths that prevent us from
dealing more effectively with the problems facing today s families (Coontz x). Coontz proposes that
researchers can take empirical data and create misleading causality for that data, thus feeding cultural
myth and/or experience. Coontz believes that an overemphasis on personal responsibility for
strengthening family values encourages a way of thinking that leads to moralizing rather than
mobilizing for concrete reforms (Coontz 22). She calls on us to direct our attention to social reforms,
which can be accomplished by avoiding victim blaming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coontz calls on her readers to avoid victim blaming strategies and to try to ask questions that raise
demands for social reform in order to decrease this conflict. In Fun Home, Alison Bechdel
demonstrates how myth and stereotyping contribute to the construction of prejudice. Alison s father,
Bruce Bechdel, lived a false life by denying his sexual orientation and created the illusion of a normal
family life. By marrying a female and creating offspring, he perpetuated the public illusion that he had
the perfect home and family. Despite this myth of perfect domestication, the true private life of the
Bechdel family could be described as dysfunctional. Bechdel witnessed only two gestures of action
between (Bechdel 68) her parents, which consisted of her father giving her mother a chaste peck
before leaving on a weekend trip (Bechdel 68) and one time when her mother put her hand on his back
(Bechdel 68) as they watched television. Bechdel writes how on both occasions, she was astonished
and discomforted (Bechdel 68) and suggests that both her mother and father preferred fiction to reality
(Bechdel 85). Both Bruce Bechdel and his wife, lived in a world where they did not acknowledge
reality; it was easier for them to live a lie then to come to terms with Bruce s homosexual identity. The
conflict within the family could be attributed to Bruce s suppression of his sexuality, which in turn,
could be attributed to growing up in a time period when it was

The Theme Of Family Relationships In Oedipus Rex By Sophocles
In the trilogy of Oedipus, Sophocles constructed an enthralling family dynamic that induces central
themes throughout the play. In numerous works of literature, family relationships engage in the central
message of a piece of work. In Sophocles three plays, specifically interconnection between siblings
and parent relationships create, refines, and complicates themes of power, love family, pride, and
extreme fate. Starting with Sophocles primary play, Oedipus Rex, the relationship between Oedipus
and his parents support the works theme of fate and pride. Through antecedent action told throughout
Oedipus Rex, Oedipus received a prophecy that he would kill his father and sleep with his mother.
Jocasta, his biological mother additionally received a prophecy long before Oedipus pronouncing her
child to kill her husband. Both, Jocasta and Oedipus recall that they can outsmart the prophecies by
avoiding the fate in which they write. With extreme pride that they carry out avoidance plans that
contribute to the plot and irony of Sophocles work. Jocasta sentenced her son to death to avoid her
prophecy. Oedipus ran from his perceived real parents, from Corinth to Thebes to avoid his fate,
killing a stranger on the way to the new kingdom. Eventually, Oedipus and Jocasta get married and
conceive children together providing accuracy to their fate later when all mysterious are discovered.
Their relationships shows that the Gods are beyond their control, even though with their hubris that
noted they could get out of it. The family relationship aspect of Oedipus Rex, situation adds more
dramatized plot to Sophocles work. Faith in the trilogies is a concept in all of Sophocles three plays
that can unarguably be avoided, Oedipus and Jocasta having the same thought process and traits

The Art Style Of Art Nouveau
Art Nouveau is New Art in French; it s a decorative style that reached its peak internationally in the
1890 s. The style was given different names in each country but they were all variations of New Art .
It also had very different characteristics depending on the country where the art piece was created.
Each of the designers of that time added to his work a personal touch; some of the very famous Art
Nouveau period artists include Antoni Gaudi, Josef Hoffman and Alphonse Mucha.
Art Nouveau art was characterized by an ornamental style with sinuous and a very prominent use of
flowing organic shapes.
Artists preferred using exotic detailing in their work, and were mostly being inspired by Celtic and
Japanese art.
This style was used in decorative art such as interior design, glasswork, jewelry design, but also used

They expressed this theme in marvelous pieces of art that almost made it look like the material was
communicating with its admirers.
Women were muses to the artists and by this time women have started to gain their places in society
they were becoming more independent they were seen in public unlike in the past. Women were seen
as being very sexually attractive yet very threatening at the same time.
Although women were represented to show that they are free and independent, they go out and have
fun, but its the erotic image of their bodies that is promoting the idea of objectifying women and
making everything more desirable to men but also alluring to women. Unlike a woman s body a male
s body would generally be attractive only to the opposite gender and won t really convey the sensual
aspect of the body.
The most erotic items of this period were small scale objects that could be hand held, they required
contact and of course demanded physical engagement.
It felt like the objects were becoming real women in the hands of their

The Importance Of Self-Assessment In Mathematics
The results of this study have important implications for teachers. They suggest the need for
mathematics teachers to provide middle school students with relevant self assessment skills effective
for mathematics learning. The results also suggest that both low and average achievers can benefit
from the self assessment instruction and as such both achievers can explore the skills in self
assessment to enhance their mathematics achievement. Teachers of mathematics should therefore be
equipped with self assessment approach in teaching low and average mathematics achieving students.
This will help the students who have difficulties in some areas of mathematics to acquire the necessary
skills needed for successful learning of mathematics. Although self assessment increased mathematics
achievement of low and average mathematics achievers, self assessment had no effect on mathematics
achievement of high achievers. This result indicates the need for more evidence on the effect of self
assessment on mathematics achievement of high achievers and conditions lead to positive effects.
Second, the present research confirms that students subsequent learning goals to correct
misunderstandings and to extend learning is important to students success in math. This suggest that
mathematics teachers need to give students frequent opportunities to set personal goals based on their
difficulties. However, it is not enough that the teacher asks students to set goals, but there should be a

The Rise Of Feudalism
Feudalism a social system of duties and rights on land tenure and personal relationships in fief lands
by vassals that came from lords to which they owe very specific services, and to which they are
bounded by personal loyalty. Feudalism started in the definite form in the lands of Frankish in the
century of the 9th and the 10th. In a long disagreement with scholars whether the institutional basis
was with Germanic or Roman. It could be said that feudalism started from the disintegration of the
Roman institutions and the disruption of Germanic settlement and inroads. Feudalism rose in areas
that were formerly dominated by Roman institutions that meant the breakdown for the central
government. The regions that were not dominated by the Roman ... Show more content on

In England feudalism was at its strongest when it was first introduced. The defeat of Harold at the
Battle of Hastings gave feudalism a really strong start in the country since none of the people of
England agreed to a feudal government system the system was strong because it was basically forced
upon them. Another point where feudalism was strong in the country was with its army. Since the
country had been divided into several plots, each plot had its own army therefore when all armies
united to fight as one county the army was big. Another strong point was that England was that the
barons did not get in the way of the life routine of the peasants as much as other countries did. In and
around their close locations they functioned efficiently. Another strong point that feudalism had in
England was that the country had relative prosperity to pass down to its people. The nobles needed to
recruit archers and soldiers from their lands. They couldn t be completely greedy and sustain support.
When the nobles went too far there were many moments of rebellion among the commoners. A weak
point that the feudal government system had England was that the country could not count on support
and revenue in times of crisis. Eventually this cost the continental possessions in France. The weak
point for a weak monarch was that the nobles would rise against him and further limit his

Case Study Hillman Tillman
Hillman Tillman is an ice hockey player that had a chief complaint of lower back pain after the team s
game last night. He is a 21 year old defenseman that had been playing ice hockey for 7 years. He
alleged that he went to check the opposing player whose back was facing him. As he was about to
check him, the player turned around and crosschecked him with his stick in his shoulder, causing him
to hyperextend his back and fall on the ice. He got back up and continued to play with no pain. He
never had this injury before. However, he stated that he took hyper extensive hits similar to this one,
but were less severe and experienced no pain. He woke up this morning to stretch after getting out of
bed and felt a sharp pain in his lower back. He had pain when bending over to tie his shoes, sitting
down for a long period of time, and standing in one stance for about an hour. He had ... Show more

will then do single leg kettlebell deadlifts, ten on each leg. The next exercise will be to do lateral
slides on the slideboard, ten on each side, progress to stickhandling while performing the exercise, and
advance to doing this on the ice. He will then go ahead and practice with the team in a non contact

Life Of Pi And Survival
Life of Pi by Yann Martel is a story about a 16 year old boy who does not lose hope after the cargo
ship he and his family had been traveling on sank. During his 277 day journey lost at sea, Piscine
Molitor Patel (known as Pi) was faced with extreme circumstances and had to overcome many
challenges. Staying hydrated, finding food and adapting to the harsh weather conditions in the ocean
was nothing compared to the challenge of being on board with a Bengal Tiger, also known as Richard
Parker. Faith, survival and the will to survive are among the many themes found in this book. Faith
seemed to have played a major role in helping Pi to survive. On page 148, his faith in God helped him
to stay strong and helped him realize that it was a miracle

Also in my elementary life, I have so much friends and we shared laughers everyday when we met at
school, my classmates back at that that time are fond of making jokes with each other and laughs
together, I miss my elementary days because it is very enjoyable and full off activities and also less
stress in our studies because the teacher will consider your grades even if you are not so smart and not
so active at school at least you go to class and participate every time the teacher have an activity. I can
also prove that when you have so much fun, you can really tell that the time is very fast. Making
friends is just easy as making a cake, when you have all the ingredients and have all the materials to
bake a cake, it is just very easy, just like making friends, if you are friendly and very fond of making
jokes, people attracts at you and interacts with you until you became friends with each other, I think
my elementary days is the most enjoying part of my limited life. In my high school life, it is not quite
the same as my elementary life because I start acting like a guy and finding a girl suitable for me at
least, in my 1st year in high school, I was very shy in our classroom because I have this girl Elizabeth
and a guy named Arven who are very fond in making fun of myself because I was very cute according

Persuasive Essay On Homeless Children
Homeless is not only limited to only affecting adults, it also includes families that have kids.
According to test scores on the Kentucky s year end test, [...] the percentage of homeless students
scoring proficient or distinguished in math and reading was 15 to 18 points lower than the student
population as a whole in 2013 14 (Musgrave). As previous articles articulated it is best to target
specific groups who suffer from homelessness, the same should be considered for the kids who are
struggling not only with their education but in their personal lives as well. With their focus mostly
being on their survival, they don t seek to improve upon their education because on their list puts
studying and homework at the end. In doing so they push themselves back and then get piled up with
work and grades to the point where they just quit. Since most of these kids already feel pressured to
help their families, they are unable to see the importance and value of education since they are mostly
seeking for fast solutions for their problems. Additionally homeless kids are not helped as much, there
seem to be no certain position or person that is able to qualify in regards to the help that homeless kids
need. But with emphasis on the importance of education, these kids are unable to see the potential that
they can unlock through education. As a result more kids pouring out into the streets and staying there
because they lacked the help and support to get themselves off the streets. And

  • 2. Examples Of Supernatural Elements In A Very Old Man With... In the short story A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, combines both supernatural and natural events in a confusing, unexpected but yet inspiring way that makes us wonder how we would respond if a supernatural event had happen in our front yard. From combining an ordinary day to rainy days and greedy community, with an amazing supernatural, an angel, who takes in cruelty, strengthen itself and flies away, Marquez successfully uses unique styles and creative tones to create a short story that would carry essentials of our daily routine in our lives and succeeds. With the right mindset, Marquez invites us to look closer in our lives and determine whether the normal and not so normal events could be change. At the beginning of the story the tone is set with a natural event where a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when Father Gonzaga notices that the angel was more of a human form than an angel. Everything we ve vision how an angel would be is the exact opposite of how the old man is presenting himself. But as we look closely, the old man s character sends us a hint of an angel, which is patience. From being locked up in a chicken coop and being poked as if he was in a zoo, he deals with the cruelty and doesn t fight back at all. He sits there and deals with it. This could be a sign of an angel s quality, dealing with such disturbing cruel treatment in a calm way. At the end of the story, as the angel deals with such cruelty, he is finally awarded with new feathers. I believe that the action of story matches the tone and setting. The cold winter is over and a new life is approaching. Like most angels, the old man s new feathers aren t so impressive, look more like another misfortune of decrepitude, (Marquez 403) but with new feathers, he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the empires thrived during different time periods, they both had a well built and expanded empire and how they treated people. At the same time, they also had very opposing ideas of who was in charge of the empire and how they ruled the government. • 4. The Key Causes For Tax Evasion People can be driven to behave recklessly if an outcome is well supported by incentives. The motivational aspect of an outcome is exactly what pushes companies and individuals alike to perform a task that they would normally not do. Motivation is the key cause for tax evasion, since it helps avoid a massive proportion of expenses that would generally be incurred. As illustrated by the case study that was provided by the Australian Financial Review, a small number of people do heavy tax lifting as opposed to the rest of the population. This means that there are a few people that earn a significant amount of money and due to progressive tax rates, the overall amount of tax that this small group of individuals would have to pay would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept has shown prominence through every stage of business evolution and has still remained as an essential factor that every business in the modern generation strives to achieve. Profit not only shows a company s efficient performance, but it also dictates how the company will be accepted within a society. This is supported by Friedman (1962, pp.23), as he mentions that ethical compromises can be made to achieve greater goals. Since the most fundamental goal of every business organisation is to earn profits and succeed amongst their competitors, it can be agreed that companies would be willing to sacrifice a certain amount of ethical decision making. The opportunity cost in this case is preferable for the people that would want to give up a portion of their ethical mindset to earn a larger profit share for their own selfish career oriented desires. (Lincoln, Pressley, Little, 1982, pp.476). Taking the aforementioned fact that profit is main goal of a company into consideration, it is crucial to understand that accounting is the crux of every business organisation. • 5. Macbeth Soliloquy Analysis In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the most famous passage is Macbeth s soliloquy after Lady Macbeth commits suicide. The scene is very intense for Macbeth, because England s forces are advancing on his castle, his wife killed herself, and he just witnessed one of the witches predictions about his death starting to come true. This passage is a very moving part of the play because it reflects Macbeth s view of his approaching death by summarizing the play by referring to past events, creating woeful mood through its imagery, and developing the theme of time. In his soliloquy, Macbeth refers to several important lines that were said in earlier parts of the play, which makes this passage moving because it manages to summarize the key points of an entire play within a few lines. The quote Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow / Creeps in this petty pace from day to day (5.5.22 23) alludes to Macbeth frequently putting off important situations for later because he does not want to deal with them yet, or feels as if it would expose him of his foul deeds. For instance, when Banquo wants to talk about King Duncan s murder, Macbeth says, But of that tomorrow, / When therewithal we shall have cause of state / Craving us jointly (3.1.36 38). Now as death is approaching Macbeth, he reflects on all of the things that he had put off that lead him to where he is now, and how he has run out of tomorrows to spend because there will no longer be any for him once he dies. This has a large impact on the audience because these lines give insight to the harsh reality that one day we will not be able to complete the things that we meant to do, and that although human beings tend to think that there will always be tomorrow , that can be easily taken away from someone. This development of a grim mood is continued throughout the passage by the use of dark imagery. The phrase Life s but a walking shadow (5.5.27) depicts life as something empty and meaningless by using a metaphor to compare it to a shadow. Another use of a metaphor is seen where Shakespeare compares life to a play in the quote, Life s but a / walking shadow, a poor player / That struts and frets his hour upon the stage / And then is heard no more ... • 6. Merced Community Benefit Analysis Even though the price of native plants and trees are more expensive than usual, there are many existing companies that support people to plant the native plants and trees such as giving away the grant and seed for the volunteer. As a Merced resident, I found out the solution to achieve the native plants and trees by applying for the volunteer in order to grant money and seeds from other private supporters. Since those supporters offer everything for people to do so, why don t people accept those offers? With that in mind, since the native plants and trees are highly expensive than usual, the support from free grants and seeds could be the solution for Merced people to restoring the native plants and trees in order to create a healthier environment. In fact, the government hands out $10 billion subsidies per month, which has many unclaimed subsidies which most people may qualify. Throughout the application, the volunteer must illustrate that his or her proposal will benefit the community, such as planting the native plants, then you have a chance to receive a free grant. • 7. The Effect Of Oxygen On The Heart Rate The results obtained for this experiment were somewhat expected as the results had reflected to the theory. While the composition of oxygen in air remains constant only the atmospheric pressure to decrease with altitude. The respiration pattern should have shown a more frequent incidence of trough and crest, but the amplitude decreased with the increasing elevation, as the oxygen molecules contained in each breathe are low. Since less oxygen are presented the oxygen and carbon dioxide should decrease with increasing altitude. Equally since more breathe are taken to allow the body to be oxygenated, the heart would need to work faster and to allow such occurrence. These ideas correlates to the results obtained, as with increasing elevation the heart rate increased from 88 beat/min to 104 beat/min at rest and the 19.8% to 18.0%, 147711.6ppm to 130739.6ppm, oxygen and carbon dioxide respectively, when condition had remained the same (pre exercise). As one exercised, regardless of the altitude, component such as heart rate carbon dioxide should have increased and that oxygen and breathing pattern to decrease. This is because the heart will need to pump more blood and use more oxygen thus increasing the production of carbon dioxide. Additionally the body would act to the oxygen deficiency, hence resulting in a decrease in breathing pressure. These ideas can be correlate to the results as on table, as an exercise was performed the heart rate had increased to 109 beats/min, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Modernism Versus Postmodernism Modernism vs. Postmodernism Post modernism follows and shares many of the same ideas as modernism. Though, at the same time, they differ in many ways. These distinctions can be seen in the two works of literature, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet. Death of a Salesman represents the modernist literature. Modernism is a style of literature that came about after World War I in Europe. It emerged in the United States in the late 1920s. Modernism was the response to the commotion, which occurred during World War I. Postmodernism proves to embrace the low culture, where the idea of elite, power, and money is not as important. Trying to make meaning becomes impossible and repressive and millions die in desire to create a great collective. Postmodernism is more accepting in regards to chaos. The idea of being okay in a world where there are no universal truths had become accepted. This can be seen in the play, because no characters are represented as true. They are living in a false world. This false world is made up of a false business with false leads and false people trying to sell them. When Shelly steals the leads, he is not doing anything different, because the leads are non existent, imaginary properties that he stole to steal the money of other people, so in reality he is not stealing something of value and can relate to the rest of the characters. With this example, it is also seen that sympathy flows around. The human voyage into life is basically uncontrollable and unpredictable. In the beginning, the men in the boat view nature as evil and unjust; nature s own personal vendetta. Since the crew on a dangerous sea without hope are depicted as the babes of the sea, we can assume that we are likely to be unknowing strangers in the universe. • 14. The Consequences Of Police Discretion In The Police Police are what is known as street level bureaucrats. This basically means that police are civil servants working on the street level in direct contact with the general public enforcing the laws of the local, state and federal law. Police officers work alone or with a partner patrolling the streets within their beat, therefor they are given a lot of discretion with their title. Discretionary judgment is necessary for a well functioning police department, but it must be demonstrated properly in order to have positive outcomes. A police officers ability to use discretion properly can help build the relationship between law enforcement and the community, but if officers abuse their discretionary judgment then it can lead to decisional influences / biases (Dempsey pg. 144, 2018). A few solutions have been implemented in order to counteract / remove these discretionary negatives. Police officers have always possessed the powers to exercise discretionary judgment ever since they have had the ability to enforce the law. Discretion within the police force is defined as the officers freedom to make a choice based on the situation (Young, 2011). However, it has come to light in recent decades that many officers abuse their powers of discretion, especially with their use of force. This is especially a problem today because police officers are being monitored every second as departments start incorporating dash cameras and body cameras. With new video surveillance brings forward the question of whether or not police are given too much freedom when it comes to discretionary judgment. One of the biggest reasons police are permitted to demonstrate discretionary judgment is because when it is applied correctly it builds a positive relationship between law enforcement and the community. The idea is that if officers are too strict on the law then there would be too many arrest and it wouldn t always allow the officer to act in a just manner. Discretionary judgment is necessary for law enforcement to function properly because no two situations are the exact same therefor officers must apply discretion as needed to the situation they are experiencing. The debate over police discretion typically comes up after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If one of the in vivo processes is altered within the cascade the cycle cannot complete with the formation of Thrombin. [Figure 2] Warfarin is an antagonist of vitamin K used to treat reoccurrence of DVT and pulmonary embolisms. Stenflo Nelsestuen, 1974 showed prothrombin the precursor to thrombin to contain a number of glutamate residues relating to the amino acid γ carboxyglutamic acid (Gla). (Hirsch et al, 2001) Its mode of action is to increase the rate of antithrombin (ATlll) a suicide substrate for proteases. Inhibition is brought about as protease cleaves select Arg Ser peptide bonds in the centre becoming fixed in a stable 1:1 complex. This in turn renders (Factor Xa) which sits at the junction of the extrinsic and intrinsic pathways inactive. This further disrupts the cascade cycle as Xa can no longer separate prothrombin into the desired thrombin needed for fibrogen formation. Apixaban is an oral reversible medicament taken primarily for prevention of stroke and systemic embolisms for those with atrial fibrillation. It is used commonly in post operative orthopaedic surgery (AHFS, 2014). Similarly to Enoxaparin, Apixaban is a direct inhibitor of Xa and follows the same process of inhibition as Enoxaparin. Both Enoxaparin and Apixaban affect the coagulation cascade much later on in the mechanism than that of Warfarin and thus have a faster onset of effect: Enoxaparin (Tmax)= 15mins and Apixaban (Tmax)= 1 3 hours, with Warfarin (Tmax)= 24 48 hours. • 16. The Real Tragic Hero Of Sophocles Antigone Brennan Vicker John Carlberg English 102 9 December 2014 The Real Tragic Hero in the Play Antigone A tragic hero according to Aristotle is someone who is of high nobility, and has a major internal character flaw. That flaw will eventually by the characters ultimate demise which is most likely death. If their demise doesn t end in a death the tragic hero usually goes through a catharsis. The most common flaws of a tragic hero are hubris, pride, and stubbornness. Tragic heroes can be found throughout most tragedy themed plays and they can help the audience relate or feel for the character has they go through there ups and downs throughout majority of the play. An example of play that has a definite tragic hero is the play Antigone by Sophocles. Antigone and Creon are both the main characters in this play but only one is the true tragic hero of this play. Creon perfectly fits majority of a tragic hero definition according to Aristotle. Antigone barely meets a few of the aspects of a tragic hero, which is why tragic hero of the play Antigone by Sophocles is Creon the King of Thebes. Around the fifth century B.C. tragedies were a very new and popular form of playwriting amongst the people of Ancient Greece. If an employee wanted to smoke, then he or she would have to leave the property. This policy change happened some years ago, when someone from human resources (H.R.) saw employees standing in front of the entrance, as he or she was trying to enter, smoking cigarettes. Me personally, I agree with this policy. I feel that those of us who don t smoke shouldn t have to suffer for those who do. But the main reason I agree with this policy is because it s said that second hand smoking is just as dangerous as first hand smoking and it can even lead to cancer. Is second hand smoke really that dangerous? What is second hand smoke? Second hand smoke (also called environmental tobacco smoke, involuntary smoke, and passive smoke) is the combination of sidestream smoke (the smoke given off by a burning tobacco product) and mainstream smoke (the smoke exhaled by a smoker). People can be exposed to second hand smoke in homes, cars, the workplace, and public places, such as bars, restaurants, and recreational settings. In the United States, the source of most second hand smoke is from cigarettes, followed by pipes, cigars, and other tobacco products. We start with a field of availables , those who are free for relationships and gradually narrow them down using different stages to a field of desirables, and those who we would consider as potential partners. In addition, the Filter theory fails to take into account individual differences. In real life, people give importance to different factors. The filter model is a 3 stage theory ,which makes it quite artificial and fails to capture the dynamics and fluency of relationships. In real life, relationships change and develop, some flow faster/slower and these factors cannot fit neatly into stages. Therefore the filter theory can t be applied to all relationships and is an incomplete explanation for relationship formation. Moreover, the filter model is reductionist as it simplifies complex relationships down to three stages. During her time in the community, also considered as a cult , Kirby faced the challenges of identity change and loss as well as abandonment and isolation. This helped me develop a deep understanding of Kirby and how she undergoes a large character development throughout the text. Firstly, I gained an understanding of Kirby and her character development through how she dealt with her loss and change of identity. When Kirby first entered the community, she is stripped of her belongings and even her name they give her a new biblical name of Esther . This made Kirby feel outraged and like her identity had just been attacked. Kirby faces this challenge by reproaching the change instantly. Active euthanasia, is taking a direct action to kill a patient and on the other hand, passive euthanasia, is withholding treatments to let the patient die (letting die). Rachels (1975) disagrees with the American Medical Association because he supports active euthanasia contrary to the position of this body. Miss Trefusis was all bones and grey skin, and when she walked her body was bent forward in a long curve like a boomerang (The Voyage Out, 32.2). From what Dahl wrote about Miss Trefusis she was a rather dotty person, while she was talking with Dahl she was eating an orange. But not just peel and eat, no she was intricately cutting the barrier around the fruit with her knife, after that she would use her knife and fork and peel away the segments. She would then cut the fruit delicately and eat them with her fork. Dahl had asked Do you always eat an orange like that? (The Voyage Out, 43) and she responded with I never touch anything I eat with my fingers, (The Voyage out, 46) They re full of bugs. Disgusting dirty things, fingers. Just think what you do with them! (The Voyage Out, 52) She believes that if you don t sterilize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Theme Of Family Relationships In Oedipus Rex By Sophocles In the trilogy of Oedipus, Sophocles constructed an enthralling family dynamic that induces central themes throughout the play. In numerous works of literature, family relationships engage in the central message of a piece of work. In Sophocles three plays, specifically interconnection between siblings and parent relationships create, refines, and complicates themes of power, love family, pride, and extreme fate. Starting with Sophocles primary play, Oedipus Rex, the relationship between Oedipus and his parents support the works theme of fate and pride. Through antecedent action told throughout Oedipus Rex, Oedipus received a prophecy that he would kill his father and sleep with his mother. Jocasta, his biological mother additionally received a prophecy long before Oedipus pronouncing her child to kill her husband. Both, Jocasta and Oedipus recall that they can outsmart the prophecies by avoiding the fate in which they write. With extreme pride that they carry out avoidance plans that contribute to the plot and irony of Sophocles work. Jocasta sentenced her son to death to avoid her prophecy. Oedipus ran from his perceived real parents, from Corinth to Thebes to avoid his fate, killing a stranger on the way to the new kingdom. Eventually, Oedipus and Jocasta get married and conceive children together providing accuracy to their fate later when all mysterious are discovered. Their relationships shows that the Gods are beyond their control, even though with their hubris that noted they could get out of it. The family relationship aspect of Oedipus Rex, situation adds more dramatized plot to Sophocles work. Faith in the trilogies is a concept in all of Sophocles three plays that can unarguably be avoided, Oedipus and Jocasta having the same thought process and traits shows a son and mother relationships. Jocasta and Oedipus marrying one another is Sophocles way of creating the irony for viewers of the play. In addition to parent relations, in, Oedipus at Colonus, the family relationship of siblings shows the aspects of pride, power, and loyalty. Polynices and Eteocles, Oedipus sons/brothers are at conflict with one another, both wanting the loyal power of the King position. Eteclos has claimed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They suggest the need for mathematics teachers to provide middle school students with relevant self assessment skills effective for mathematics learning. The results also suggest that both low and average achievers can benefit from the self assessment instruction and as such both achievers can explore the skills in self assessment to enhance their mathematics achievement. Teachers of mathematics should therefore be equipped with self assessment approach in teaching low and average mathematics achieving students. This will help the students who have difficulties in some areas of mathematics to acquire the necessary skills needed for successful learning of mathematics. The defeat of Harold at the Battle of Hastings gave feudalism a really strong start in the country since none of the people of England agreed to a feudal government system the system was strong because it was basically forced upon them. Another point where feudalism was strong in the country was with its army. Since the country had been divided into several plots, each plot had its own army therefore when all armies united to fight as one county the army was big. Another strong point was that England was that the barons did not get in the way of the life routine of the peasants as much as other countries did. In and around their close locations they functioned efficiently. Another strong point that feudalism had in England was that the country had relative prosperity to pass down to its people. When the nobles went too far there were many moments of rebellion among the commoners. A weak point that the feudal government system had England was that the country could not count on support and revenue in times of crisis. Eventually this cost the continental possessions in France. As previous articles articulated it is best to target specific groups who suffer from homelessness, the same should be considered for the kids who are struggling not only with their education but in their personal lives as well. With their focus mostly being on their survival, they don t seek to improve upon their education because on their list puts studying and homework at the end. In doing so they push themselves back and then get piled up with work and grades to the point where they just quit. Since most of these kids already feel pressured to help their families, they are unable to see the importance and value of education since they are mostly seeking for fast solutions for their problems. Additionally homeless kids are not helped as much, there seem to be no certain position or person that is able to qualify in regards to the help that homeless kids need. But with emphasis on the importance of education, these kids are unable to see the potential that they can unlock through education. As a result more kids pouring out into the streets and staying there because they lacked the help and support to get themselves off the streets. And ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
