The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Should Be Banned Essay
The Perks of Being a Banned Book
The award winning coming of age novel to film, The Perks of Being A Wallflower, has sparked
controversy with parents across school districts nationwide since its publishing in 1999. Many
students read the book for English class, as a choice read, as a part of a school project or
independently, but many parents are disappointed with the books suggestive content. While few bold
subjects are written, there is certainly no intention of promoting bad habits or behavior like adults
claim that is presented within the novel and this does not represent the novel as a whole. Stephen
Chbosky s novel, The Perks of Being A Wallflower, is constantly challenged as a high school reading
requirement by the sexual content, drug and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sexual abuse and aforementioned molestation which is one of the many deep secrets revealed in the
novel. As earlier in the novel, the protagonist witnesses rape which was not intended for sex but for
violence. Albeit, mentionings of drugs and alcohol, that can not be regarded as harmful for young
readers because of lack of great detail and vaguefulness experience. These topics should not entitle the
novel as bad and it should be read for the symbolism and meaningful

Social Disorganization In The Dark Knight Rises
Social Disorganization theory is a theory that looks at deviant behavior and the community it arises in.
The way people are raised and what environment they are raised in effects who they become when
they are older. Factors such as poverty, industrialization, immigration, shifting social values, city
population and more can all effect ones way of thinking and their actions (Buccellato 2017). In the
film Dark Knight Rises city of Gotham is a unique environment that definitely pushes people to do
things they normally would not do had they not been in this certain environment. In the Dark Knight
Rises people are left to fight for their own safety and they did not have social capital, collective
efficacy, and they were not in The town of Gotham goes into hiding and protecting because of Bane.
Bane has many people in the power elite who are working for him on the bad side. The people of
Gotham turn to theft and lose control of their sanity because of their fear of dying. Bane made people
lose their minds due to fear and uncertainty. These factors pushed them over the edge into committing
crime. Social Disorganization researchers perceived criminals and delinquents to be normal
individuals whose criminal acts were stimulated by their environment (Rafter and Brown 2011: 50).
Bane put up a TV for Batman to watch his city crumble to the ground after Bane releases all the
prisoners who have been kept in prison for years on end. Regarding rates of self reported offending,

`` An Unquiet Mind `` By Kay Redfield Jamison
Kay Redfield Jamison is a Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine,
however she did not achieve this level of success easily. In Jamison s novel, An Unquiet Mind, she
writes about her life and her battle with manic depressive illness, revealing how someone s life is
impacted by a psychological disorder. Her novel revolves around her ailment and the situations she
encounters along the way of her journey, such as attempting to commit suicide, suffering from deep
depressions, and experiencing hallucinations of flying. Jamison struggled a great deal in college since
she was unable to control her disability along with her schoolwork. In time, she started to take lithium
to help control her disorder and her flying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an additional example, when Jamison starts to miss her manias she writes, Long since that
extended voyage of my mind and soul, Saturn and its icy rings took on an elegiac beauty, and I don t
see Saturn s image now without feeling an acute sadness at its being so far away from me, so
unobtainable in so many ways (91). In all of these quotes, Jamison has imaginations of Saturn or
space, which most likely implies that she feels distant or alienated from the normal world when she is
high. In most cases, feelings such as these are difficult to describe to others, considering, it is better to
have experienced it in order to understand it. Nevertheless, Jamison does an excellent job in breaking
that barrier, by utilizing metaphors of flying and connecting it to the feelings she obtains when she is
high to assist the reader in learning her perspective. Early in her novel, Jamison writes about her
family and her life when she was young, explaining the significance flying had in her life. Her father
was in the Air Force, so for this reason, their family was forced to travel often. Her father [...] was
foremost a scientist and only secondarily a pilot. But he loved to fly, and, because he was a
meteorologist, both his mind and his soul ended up being in the skies (11). Since her father always had
an interest in flying, it carried on to Jamison, which demonstrates why she uses flying as a metaphor
throughout her novel.

Woodworker Qualities
Education may be helpful but, most woodworkers are trained primarily on the job learning from
experienced workers. With their on the job training they are given basic tasks, like placing a piece of
wood into the machine and stacking the finished product at the end of their process. Throughout the
training process as the worker gains experience they begin to perform more defined tasks as of basic
machine operations and job tasks with minimal supervision. To become a truly skilled woodworker it
would take several months to even years before that happens. To have skilled worker abilities one
would be able to set up machines, read blueprints, and be able to plan work orders. Important qualities

Magnolia Data Redo Our team decided to visualize only the important initiatives for Magnolia (MCI)

Military Recruit
As much as sergeants, did not like a lowly recruit to refer to them as officers, the reverse was doubly
so. The first time I did this to him; he jumped me and likely thought I was not being observant. The
next few times he might have thought I was crazy, as he had me drop and give him twenty. After that, I
got to the point, if I saw him, passed him, or he passed me, I would stop and assume that I called had
him sergeant and drop myself and start doing push ups. By then, he would look at me as I did push ups
at seeing him, shake his head and walk away. Like a cat, I seemed to live by my habits, or more
specifically they were my default settings.
The first platoon drill instructor would call me from across the field or training area just to tell me he
did not like me, which made me late for wherever I was going, to be punished for being tardy. After a
month, it was apparent that I was not passing Basic Training. I was either going to be recycled back
into the next training rotation or discharged. Space at Fort Jackson, was very limited with more
recruits than space, so the Army discharged me. I was now on soft cap duty, where I was still with my
platoon, acting as my drill instructor s gopher. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The hip, one of the largest major weight bearing joints in the body. It s where the thigh bone also
known as the femur meets three other bones known as the pelvic bone. These bones create a ball and
socket joint which is when a ball shaped bone (femur) articulates with cup shape cavity of another
bone (pelvic bone). A ball and socket joint is also characterized as synovial joint. Synovial joints are
more complex joints that are held together by a capsule of dense connective tissue and filled with
synovial fluid that lubricates the joints. The joint capsule which is composed of large ligaments,
tendons, and other muscles keeps the hip from dislocating. The head of the femur and the socket of the

The femoral neck or intracapsular fracture occurs when the neck of the femur breaks and sometimes
the ball may move out of it s place. This type of fracture happens more likely with athletes and
performers. Over years there have been several methods orthopedists have used to fix femoral neck
fractures. In 1931, Smith Petersen used internal fixation by reducing pain and pressure to the fractured
parts followed by immobilization in a spica cast application. Until 1970 another widely spread method
called the multiple pin fixation technique was introduced by another orthopedist. In this method the
fracture fragments would heal with the insertion of Pugh nails and Richards screws. Both of these
methods include a sliding fixation process where the fractured fragments rub against each other. The
second type of hip fracture which is repaired more frequently is intertrochanteric hip fracture. The
intertrochanteric hip fracture occurs slightly below the neck of the femur and the lesser trochanter.
These fractures undergo a treatment that involves the insertion of AO proximal femoral or sliding
plates, intramedullary nails, cannulated or dynamic hip screws, and/or rods to balance and protect the
fractures. After the surgery, surgeries suggest that the patients stay in bed to make sure the fracture
does not occur again. The third type of hip fracture is subtrochanteric fracture. The

Improving Management Styles
Improving Management Styles and Their Function In the article When the Problem is Management,
author Lawrence Sawyer takes a look at the different styles that managers have in their practice, how
they can better perform their functions and how they relate to the four basic functions of management.
As an internal auditor, Mr. Sawyer provides some insight to these managers in helping them and their
departments make better use of the tools they have and points out what basic function they are
violating. This article and its basic points relate directly to the assigned 1st week s reading in our
Management 330 textbook and is an excellent example in how to relate the reading to a real life

This article and its main points directly relate to discussions in class and assigned reading about
managers. As we learn about what managers do in the text, the examples given in the article give good
insight and problem solving scenarios to work out. We can also see how change is good and can be
controlled in shaping and helping to direct the focus that is desired for an organization.
This can also be applied to work experience. Being a part of the huge organization that Citigroup is,
being department specific can be adhered to and still provide ample opportunities to apply learning
from the article. Being a working agent in the collections department, it is easy to see the habits and
decision making process that goes on between managers. The four functions of management discussed
apply to collections in an important way. Goals need to be set in monthly and quarterly quotas to keep
delinquency down. Rules and procedures are set for agents to use in daily collection efforts.
Coordinating the efforts of all agents and establishing chain of command authority help the
department remain organized. Managers are very influential in driving Management Functions 5
agents to work efficiently and quickly, while being thorough and specific in their collection efforts.

Myer s Briggs Type Indicator
Myer s Briggs Type Indicator The Myers Briggs Personality Type Indicator is used to create a culture
adapted to the 21st century. We use the Myers Briggs instrument to cultivate a culture of respect. The
Myers Briggs Type Indicator bridges the leadership gap with a comprehensive development program
for crew leaders. Statements above are from some major businesses such as Hallmark, Saint Francis
Care and JetBlue Airlines. So what is the Myers Briggs Type Indicator? How can this help your
company? The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test designed to assist a person in
identifying some significant personal preferences. Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel
Briggs Myers developed the Indicator during World War II, and its criteria follow from Carl Jung s
theories in his work Psychological Types.
What makes this test different from other standardized tests is that this classifies people by preferred
types. According to Myers Briggs Theory, while types and traits are both inborn, traits can be
improved akin to skills, whereas types, if supported by a healthy environment, naturally differentiate
over time. The indicator attempts to tell the order in which this occurs in each person, and it is that
information, combined with interviews done with others who have indicated having the same
preferences, that the complete descriptions are based on. The indicator then, is akin to an arrow which
attempts to point in the direction of the proper description.

The Four Stages Of Cell Division
Cell division is the process by which a cell divides into two or more cells. There are two types of cell
division, mitosis, and meiosis. Mitosis is a type of cell division in which one cell divides in to two
new daughter cells that are genetically identical to one another. In the context of the cell cycle, mitosis
is the part of the division process in which the DNA of the cell s nucleus is split into two equal sets of
chromosomes. Mitosis on the other side is a process where a single cell divides in to two cells to
produce four cells containing half the original amount of genetic information. These cells are the sex
cells sperm in males, eggs in females. Mitosis consist of four steps, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase,
and Telophase. On the other side meiosis has nine steps, interphase, prophase I, metaphase I, anaphase
I, telophase I cytokinesis, prophase II, metaphase II, anaphase II, and lastly telophase II cytokinesis.
Beginning with mitosis, in early prophase the cell starts to break down some structures and build other
up, setting the stage for division of the chromosomes. First the chromosomes start to condense
(making them easier to pull apart later on). Then the mitotic spindle begins to form. The spindle is a
structure made of microtubules, strong fibers that are part of the cell s skeleton. And its job is to
organize the chromosome and move them around during mitosis. In late prophase (also known as
prometaphase), the mitotic spindle begins to capture and

Competition Vs. Monopoly Essay
1. Analyze the fast food industry from the point of view of perfect competition. Include the concepts
of elasticity, utility, costs, and market structure to explain the prices charged by fast food retailers.
Firms within the fast food industry fall under the market structure of perfect competition. Market
structure is a classification system for the key traits of a market. The characteristics of perfect
competition include: large number of buyers and sellers, easy entry to and exit from the market,
homogeneous products, and the firm is the price taker. Many fast food franchises fit all or most of
these characteristics.
Competition within the industry as well as market supply and demand conditions set the price of
products sold. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the current prices, firms may sell as much product as they want, thereby maximizing profits.
This industry has a very high utility value. Utility is a measure of satisfaction or pleasure that is
obtained from consuming a good or service. If consumers feel as if they get a good meal, at a good
price, then they re satisfied. This customer satisfaction coupled with relatively low prices keeps the
industry profitable.
Another quality of perfect competition that may be overlooked, but is vital to this industry is the ease
of entry into the market. Start up franchises within this market structure can begin operating with
relatively low initial investments (compared to other industries). This is not the case where
monopolies are concerned. There are numerous barriers to entry into monopolistic market structures,
capital being one of the most prominent barriers.
If a new franchise an offer the consumer a quality product at a reduced price, then the chances of
success are greatly increased. For example, Chanello s and Little Caesar s offer discounted pizza
prices, and maintain the same quality as other pizza chains. These companies spend less on advertising
and more on the actual product. That s a very important concept in this industry, because their quality
product at this discounted price gives them a niche in the market. Once a company establishes a niche,
they become more visible to the

Character Analysis Of The Darkness In Emma By Jane Austen
Jane Austen begins the novel Emma by stating, Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich, with a
comfortable home and happy disposition, seemed to unite some of the best blessings of existence, and
had lived nearly twenty one years in the world with very little to distress or vex her (1) immediately
giving readers the impression that Emma is a young woman whom the readers should respect and
grow to love throughout the novel. As we continue reading, however, we learn that while Emma has a
respectable reputation and a circle of people who love her and want the best for her, she is extremely
flawed. In the article, The Darkness in Emma, Anita Soloway states, for Emma, beauty, cleverness,
and wealth prove to be mixed blessings at best, for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emma is selfish, unable to see reality as it truly is, and is impulsive, yet, because of her respectable
standing in the social class, people love her and want the best for her and think highly of her. While
discussing Emma with Mr. Knightley, Mrs. Weston states, With all dear Emma s little faults, she is an
excellent creature. Where shall we see a better daughter, or a kinder sister, or a truer friend? No, no;
she has qualities which may be trusted; she will never lead any one really wrong; she will make no
lasting blunder; where Emma errs once, she is in the right a hundred times (25). While her opinion on
Emma does recognize that she has faults and isn t perfect, those flaws are basically overlooked. Mrs.
Weston seems to believe that Emma is a blessing to everyone she encounters, and even when she
creates an issue, it s acceptable because it s assumed she ll do something great to compensate up for it.
This definitely shows what Emma s reputation is like, and how the people close to her view her. One
of Emma s main flaws is the fact that she is extremely impulsive with her actions, and she doesn t stop
to think about what she s doing until the damage is already done. This happens multiple times
throughout the novel, especially when Emma tries to play matchmaker. This is partially due to the fact
that she is unable to see reality clearly, which is what happens during her attempt at bringing Harriet
and Mr. Elton together.

No matter if a person is a reader of Pygmalion, written by George Bernard Shaw, or a viewer of The
Makeover, it is understood both Eliza Doolittle and Elliot Doolittle are in need of a transformation.
Throughout both the book and film, both characters were going through drastic changes in life. In the
play, Pygmalion, Eliza Doolittle, living in London England, was considered an illiterate, poor girl.
Eliza is a girl that stands at a flower shop and sells flowers. Heavy summer rain had settled into

Hannah s outcome is not so great; she loses to the local weather man. Hannah Higgins is compared to
Henry Higgins, in Pygmalion, because she is grumpy most of the time. After her recent loss, Hannah
and Colleen Pickering were back at the office reviewing. Elliot Doolittle, the local beer distributor,

him his speaking was not correct. He was extremely offended by her comment and walked away.
The local weather man, competing for the role, never got the weather right, so the day he made his

fluently. Hannah had also offended him earlier, so the chances of him doing this favor for her was not

The Counter Birth Control Pills Essay
Over the counter birth control pills have been a topic of discussion for many women. Some might say
it would pose many risks such as not receiving medical checkups and not knowing the side effects of
birth control pills. Others may see it as a helpful to women because of the convenience of accessing
the pills and not having to take time to schedule appointments. Additionally, due to health care and
insurance policies some women might not have an easy access to birth control pills but the cost should
not be a factor. Although over the counter birth control would allow an easier access for women, there
are reasons why a doctor s visit and a prescription are required to receive birth control pills.
Over the counter birth control pills could be a change for the contraceptive world. If a law were to
pass by the Food and Drug Admiration to let women gain access to birth control without a
prescription, women will not receive the proper health checks that they need. According to Morgan

The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
In Cormac McCarthy s The Road, the father presents to the reader three distinct characteristics that
shapes his personality through novel. When the man mentions of carrying the fire to his son, meaning
that his son carries the load of civilization, compassion, and sympathy, the father expresses multiple
times that he lives for his son, and only for his son. The world of The Road is a complete anarchy, and
the man displays extensive amounts of bravery while trying to face the struggles and hardships that is
presented to them. Whether the challenge is to be hiding from cannibals, or wandering into dangerous
abandon houses, the man always exhibits ample amounts of bravery. Even though the man s son is
born into the disheveled and chaotic world and experiences nothing else before, the boy s sense of
right and wrong came from his father. The man constantly influences his son by telling him that they
are the good and guys: Look at me, the man said. He turned and looked. He looked like he d been

leaving the students without somewhere to park their cars to attend class. Consequently, leading too
many effects on student s schedule and also even on their budget.
Since the vast majority of students that attend college drives a car, Miami Dade College had to find a
place where students could park their car without taking the risk of being towed or ticketed. So the
college administration allied at a first instance with Miami Dade County to let the students park at the
117th avenue which is right behind the college buildings. The real problem came when the Miami
Dade County didn t let them park there anymore. Consequently, MDC had to find another place to let
them park, so they moved the parking site to the International Mall, which is about 3 miles from the
campus buildings. Finally they got an agreement with IKEA to use the upper parking of the ... Show

Dietary Intake And Psychological Distress
Abstract
Necessary dietary intake is very important during pregnancy; it can affect not only the mother but also
the unborn baby. There are a couple of factors that play a huge role when the levels are abnormal.
Dietary intake and psychological distress are two major components that make up a healthy
pregnancy. In some parts of the world pregnant women do not get adequate micronutrients and
macronutrients. Not only is this an increasing risk of necessary dietary intake and psychological
distress but this can be the reason why stressors occur in the first place. Not having resources for
pregnant women who are low in social economic status could be the reason why there are health
issues among pregnant women.
Keywords: pregnancy, health, dietary intake, psychological distress Factors Influencing Health Issues
Among Pregnant Women During pregnancy, women s health is crucial to meet nutritional needs.
There are many factors that can affect a pregnancy. Major factors include: stress, diet, health,
substance use, psychological disorder and previous trauma experiences. It is very important during the
pregnancy that the mother is not exposed to any negativity. Any negativity can affect the unborn baby.
There are many stories of previous experiences that have affected the unborn baby due to a negative
environment. The participants stories (Hanghoj, 2013) shared their experience of risk associated with
physical activity. Health issues are commonly correlated with dietary intake

Princess Diana As A Speech About Celebrities
Ladies and Gentlemen, Jury and Judge, I stand before you here today to present the ways in which my
client, Princess Diana has been poorly represented in the Woman s Day magazine article posted on the
tenth of July 2017. The objective was clearly to present Diana as a killer . Through the use of codes
and conventions the audience is positions to only see her in a negative light. This is a completely false
representation, under no prosperity did my client have any intentions of killing Camilla Parker
Bowles.
Diana, Princess of Wales was known by all as the people s princess. Diana was human just like the
rest of us, but as she was Royalty meaning that media targets her as a famous person to draw in
readers. The Woman s Day Magazine has the power to manipulate aspects of Camilla s story to
portray Princess Diana as an evil person with intentions to kill using various codes and conventions.
My client is neither evil nor has intentions to kill.
Firstly, the article posted in Woman s Day has a large two page spread. The layout has a extensive
heading that stretches over the two double pages, Camilla s shocking claims Diana tried to KILL ME .
In this headline the words kill me are emphasized in all caps and are surrounded by red which can be
seen as a colour portraying blood, anger and violence, all which are not true to the Princess s
character. The journalist has clearly thought about the colours and placement of the article. The front
page piece and the bold headlines

Gender, Ritual And Reality By Marla N. Powers
We have always learned about the history and it always has to do with men. The role they had and
what they contribute to the society. However, this is not only a man s world but also a woman s.
Women s contributions are equally important for the development of the society. Similarly, in the book
assigned Oglala Women Myth, Ritual and Reality by Marla N. Powers, demonstrates the life of
women from a Lakota tribe and what their gender role contributes to the tribe and to their families and
religions. Furthermore, Power tries to educate her reader about the gender and diversity of world s
religion through her book. The most interesting chapter from Powers book was the Old Age , chapter
6. In this chapter, she describes the roles of a grandmother and of a medicine women and how they are
important part of Lakota culture. I would extend my knowledge on this chapter and focus on the
particular roles Lakota s women had to accomplish and what was expected of them. I consider
grandmothers and medicine women to be vital for the Lakota culture and their traditions. In how they
are viewed and respected for their wisdom and power. In addition, I would also focus on the online
reading on the soul of the Indian, including further research to state my point. Comparing the readings
and how they are related to the Oglala Women book. Including my critical response in how my own
religion and culture is similar to the Oglala culture. In the Lakota culture, respect toward the elders is

Determining the Accuracy of a Non-Contact Infrared...
Among many people, fever is commonplace while sick. This is especially true of pediatric patients
who develop fevers at the slightest indication of infection. 20% of emergency room visits for children
are due to an elevated temperature. (Fortuna et al., 2010 p. 103) A rectal temperature above 100.4°F is
considered to be fever. The preferred method of obtaining an accurate temperature reading is rectally,
as this gives the most precise core temperature reading. In some patients however, rectal thermometry
is contraindicated and an alternative method of measuring their temperature is needed. Not many
alternatives currently exist to give as accurate of a core temperature reading as the rectal thermometer.
The research article I chose to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before beginning, general information was collected from the child s parent or guardian about any
fever reducing medication given, the patient s age, and what was bothering the child.
The study followed important aspects of the nursing process. First, the patients were assessed to
determine how sick they were and whether or not they qualified to participate in the study. The tools
for the research, in this case both thermometers, were acquired and implemented. The children s
temperature was then evaluated using both thermometers.
The process in which the data was obtained for the research study was as follows: The rectal
thermometer was inserted and held in place for 15 seconds and was then read. The same trained
person would then use the infrared thermometer in the middle of the forehead immediately after the
rectal temperature was recorded. The infrared thermometer had to be calibrated to the temperature of
the room before using. The people trained to use both thermometers correctly for this study were two
registered nurses, two paramedics and two pediatric emergency physicians. (Fortuna et al., 2010 p.
102) All of the data collected was gathered by one of these six people.
The results of this research study showed a discrepancy that was too large between the rectal
thermometer and the non contact infrared thermometer. There was a difference of as many as 4°F.

The Abraham Friedman Occupational Center
Throughout the program, my placement was set at the Abraham Friedman Occupational Center. The
students were predominantly Spanish speaking adults who lived in downtown Los Angeles. The
program was ESL Intermediate High B that integrated language skills. Since October last year, I
devoted seventy hours to observation and taught four lessons totaling five hours. The guiding teacher
Mr. Buckley was an inspiring educator who created a variety of classroom activities.
Analysis
I benefited from the observation experience both as a language learner and a potential ESL teacher.
When I started the practicum, I had little teaching experience. I never attended any English learning
program in the United States, and its interactive teaching style surprised me. I thought to myself that
being interactive should mean spontaneous and going with what s happening in the classroom. I came
up with the first lesson in just an hour.
It was when I reviewed my first teaching video that I found how powerful the reflective cycle was. It
helped me slow down thinking so that I can attend to what is rather than what I wished were so, and
then to shift the weight of that thinking from my own teaching to students learning (Rodgers, 2002, p.
231). It looked like in the first TLE I wasn t teaching at all. Then I started to reread the Rogers article
for help and was able to dig out more information that I overlooked before.

Friar Lawrence Responsible For Romeo And Juliet s Death
The Faults of Romeo and Juliet s death Friar Lawrence is one character at fault for their deaths
because he continued to make plans for Romeo and Juliet to be together. In the story when Juliet is
being forced to marry Paris, Friar Lawrence devises a plan. To show, Shall Romeo by my letters know
our drift, And hither shall he come, and he and I Will watch thy waking, and that very night Shall
Romeo bear thee hence to Mantua. And this shall free thee from this present shame, If no inconstant
toy, nor womanish fear, Abate thy valor in the acting it (4.1 115 21). Another plan Friar Lawrence

The Pros And Cons Of Dehumanization In America
Carolina, the states agreed to keep slavery legal under the constitution. Northerners and Southerners
had different views of slaves being considered as property tax and being a counted as an individual
into the population for power and economic reasons. To solve the differences the three fifth
compromises became there solution. Rather than each slave being counted as a person, three fifths of a
state s slave population would be counted toward that state s total population. In this way slaves
became three fifths of a human. (DeGruy, 2005, pg. 51). The act of dehumanization to those of African
descent caused European individual to feel superior. A significant portion of the population viewed
Africans as a lesser species of human than those of European descent. (DeGruy, 2005, pg. 51). This
action showed that it was greatly accepted that blacks were inferior. Dehumanizing a race causes self
hatred and acts of low self esteem towards those being oppressed. The people of European descent
started to develop cognitive dissonance which became detrimental to the black race. Cognitive
Dissonance causes human beings not to function well unless all dissonance is removed because it
drives a great deal of discomfort. The discomfort is caused by discord thinking which occurs when
there s conflict with what you believe and behaviors that goes against their belief. In order for the
Europeans to remove cognitive dissonance they had to either own up to the negative act and address

Interest Groups and Policy Making
The involvement of civil society and interests in policy making is a constructive way to involve
representative groups in the policy process and is conducive to economic growth Discuss whether you
agree with this statement, with reference to Olson s critique of interest groups.
Introduction
The aim of this assignment is to look at the effect civil society and interest groups have on policy
making and how in turn these are either conducive or not to the economy. Olson s critique of interest
groups will also be examined.
What are interest groups?

He goes on to explain how the law when finally passed is unlikely to mirror their exact interest, as
when it moved through the legislative process other interest groups asserted their influence to modify
it in ways to accommodate their interest. This gives us a simple but clear idea of the effect interest
groups have on policy making and makes one wonder the conduciveness of such actions to the
economy if politics are to pamper to the interests of interest groups. Murphy (2010) also outlined that
interest groups do not only effect government but they also exercise their influence on policy through
public and private channels both directly and indirectly.

The Role Of Diplomatic Relations Between Germany And Turkey
However, many historians have debated not only Germany s role in the severity of Armenian
persecution and their motives in involving themselves in the Armenian situation and the, but also their
rationale behind forming a relationship with the Ottoman Empire that began in the 1890s. In March of
2007, Dr. Margaret Lavinia Anderson, a Professor Emerita of History at the University of California,
Berkeley, published an article in The Journal of Modern History, entitled Down in Turkey, far away :
Human Rights, the Armenian Massacres, and Orientalism in Wilhelmine Germany. In this article,
Anderson examines the development of diplomatic relations between Germany and Turkey and, more
specifically, why Germany became interested in the Near East, their motives, and, later, their alliance.
She argues that Germany was mainly focused on developing a strong, influential relationship with the
Ottoman Empire during the Wilhelmine era. An alliance with the Turks would be a joint cooperative
effort to strengthen and modernize the failing Ottoman military and ensure safe passage into
neighboring British colonies for the Germans, still trying to extend their influence beyond the
Ottoman Empire eastward. The Germans sought to accomplish this and create a strong coalition by
adopting a compliant attitude towards Armenian persecution and reiterating the Turkish rhetoric and
belief that the Armenians were getting what they deserved.
Anderson asserts that, in the age of Imperialism and

The world has always been the people who made the revolution in a particular field of activity.
Christopher Columbus, Nikola Tesla, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and many others have made the

caused a revolution in the IT field. Steven Paul Jobs was born in San Francisco, February 24, 1955.
His biological parents who were not married, adopted him from a family of civil servants from the
South Bay area of San Francisco, Paul and Clara Jobs.
In high school, Steve Jobs decided to go to Reed College in Oregon. However, Steve studied in

Medical Technology, Doctors, And Patients
Audience:People in the medical technology industry, doctors, and patients in need of prosthetics,
augmentations, or implants.
Rhetorical Situation: A doctor prescribes an MRI non compatible implant like a pacemaker because it
is cheaper for the patient in the moment. However, in the long run this will cost more to keep
maintained, and is obviously harder to monitor. It also creates an issue for any other medical problems
that might arise which need MRI scanning. A doctor could, in this case, advocate for a more advanced
implant rather than the cheapest option for the patient or the first option. Doctors should be advocating
for higher technology, and not immediate cost effectiveness. Sometimes the harder decisions are the
better ones in the long run. For instance, a woman who had only half of her foot amputated due to
injury opted to amputate more of her leg due to years of discomfort with her old prosthetic. Her life
experience improved drastically with the advanced prosthetic.

The Moral Heroism Of Antigone By Susan B. Anthony
Humans are born with the potential to achieve greatness and to create a difference in the world.
Though individuals possess the capacity to prove the immorality within them, they also possess an
inner hero that is capable of performing tremendous good for the benefit of others. However, seldom
do humans actually embrace the courage to stand up for their ethical principles and to challenge the
existing social standards that are organized under strict leadership. Famous figures from Susan B.
Anthony to Rosa Parks drew their moral heroism from the heroic action of characters in Greek
literature such as Sophocles s Antigone. The protagonist, Antigone, creates a conflict between her
allegiances to political law and morals when the Theban king Creon decrees that the body of his
nephew, Polyneices, remains unburied. To Creon, it sets a substandard example for the future of
Thebes because Polyneices attacked his native city in a battle against the invading army of Argos.
Since the morals of Antigone have a close connection with true justice and human well being, she
defies Creon s laws and vows to give the proper burial rites to Polyneices as they were presented to
her brother Eteocles. Antigone s sacrifice to bury her brother results from a need to embrace family
pride, a feeling to satisfy the gods desires, and a responsibility to represent the Theban citizens.
The honor that Antigone wants to maintain for her family, coupled with the irreplaceable nature of
family, outweigh her

The Catholic Faith
Paper #2 The Catholic faith is based on this central figure, Jesus, who teaches them how to live in a
manner according to the ultimate creator: God. There are ways to view Jesus in the modern day
through different means of interaction. One way of interaction with Jesus is achieved when people
attend church on Sundays to ensure that they are live according to God through their daily activities.
Another way Christians see interaction with Jesus is through Mary and the saints because Mary and
the saints are ideal examples of Jesus. These interactions are essential to the Catholic faith, but the
most important reappearance of Jesus is through the Sacraments. Essentially, the Sacraments are a
way of getting inside of the Bible by committing to the same actions that Jesus performed in the Bible.
By conducting the sacraments, a person is considered to be transformed by doing the same things
Jesus did. The reappearance of Jesus is best viewed through the Sacraments, more specifically in An
Introduction to Catholicism through the explanation of the concept of sacramentality, which
encompasses baptism, confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist. In order to grasp an understanding of the
Sacraments, a person must first understand the concept of sacramentality. According to Lawrence
Cunningham, the word sacrament mean[s] a visible sign of divine power manifested in humanity
(Cunningham, pg.101). This concept of divine power portrayed in humanity can be understood as a

Analytical Essay on the Score of Psycho
Analytical Essay on the Score of Psycho The man behind the low woodwinds that opens Citizen Kane
and the high pitched violins of Psycho (1960). Bernard Herrmann was one of the most original and
distinctive composers ever to work in film. He started early, winning a composition prize at 13 and
founding his own orchestra at 20. After writing scores for Orson Welles radio shows in the 1930s
(including the notorious 1938 War of the Worlds broadcast), he was the obvious choice to score Welles
film debut, Citizen Kane (1941), and subsequently Magnificent Ambersons, The (1942), though he
removed his name from the latter after additional music was added without his (or Welles ) consent
when the film ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Repeated rhythmic patterns were of course well known to the improvising pianists and organists of the
silent film days the vamp till ready technique. They had also became an idiosyncratic element of the
highly original classical music of Janacek. we don t know whether Herrmann was ever familiar with
Janacek s music, but his rhytmic techniques presaged those used by minimalist compsers several
decades later. Herrmann s also developed a use of harmony that was particularly suited to film. It is no
accident that he was the composer for some of Alfred Hitchcock s greatest films. He made strong use
of augmented chords which provided a certain unease. However, he particular used overlapping
harmonies that left a scene feeling unresolved ideal for building tension in the storytelling of a thriller.
Tensions was produced by overlapping harmonies and their ability to help build a powerful climax .
His orchestrations are inventive and chosen to underline the atmosphere of the film. At times, he
deliberately limits his palette, as in Psycho. At other times, he calls on highly unusual forces as in (his
unused music to) Marnie. The film score did not need to tie itself to the forces of the 19th century
symphony orchestra. It also did not have to follow the constraints of an acoustic performance. Some
instruments could be miked up and others miked down . This added a new tool for

Essay On Paul Farmer As A Hero In Mountains Beyond Mountains
When someone imagines a hero they usually think of a person that has superpowers or a famous
person that made an impact on society and mass amount of people. But a hero can be as simple as
someone who helps others and in the eyes of others is looked up to. In Mountains Beyond Mountains
by Tracy Kidder, Paul Farmer a doctor, is this hero. His beliefs and ideas impacts the lives of many
and his actions help many people around him. His commitment to the long defeat is what helps
Farmer in his decision making to treat patients and win.
Throughout his time helping others Farmers always refers to this term long defeat. This term means
that there might be a impossible goal that is trying to be reached but it is wrong to give up or should
not be given up so easily. It is easy to let it go and face the facts the facts that nothing can be done but
one should not do this just because they want to win.
This type of thinking and commitment to long defeat is what separated Farmer from the rest of the
doctors in that area. Since he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The situation right now is that still people without money and resources are ill and on the verge of
dying. What Farmer is doing is doing is that he is trying his best to help these people out. The goal set
is to help this country out that means every single person. Since this is an impossible goal many gave
up and blame others. Famer says I have fought the long defeat and brought other people on to fight the
long defeat, and I m not going to stop because we keep losing. Now I actually think sometimes we
may win ( Kidder .....) What he is saying is that since he is not going to get this goal of heling others
that is concerted a loss. But in fact, that is wrong they win in this situation because they are helping
others who need it. Slowly they will get to their goal but for right now they win because even if one
person is aided that s a

The Death Penalty Should Be Legal Essay
Throughout the United States an argumentative topic is the death penalty should it be legalized across
the 50 states or be declared unconstitutional? Some believe the death penalty is a better option for
those who deserve the highest form of punishment available. However, others argue capital
punishment is a waste of resources and should be brought to an end. Therefore, while many believe
the death penalty should be legalized throughout the United States because it offers a higher form of
punishment, others believe the death penalty should be repealed because it causes unnecessary deaths.
Many believe the death penalty has recently been discovered; although, it originated in the B.C. era.
For example, the earliest forms of government had introduced the death penalty for those who had
committed large offences. One researcher writes, Death Penalty laws can be traced back as far as the
18th century B.C. when the Code of King Hammurabi established death as the penalty for 25 different
crimes ( Capital Punishment Timeline ). He claims the death penalty started before anyone would have
thought; it had been used during the B.C. era. Hammurabi used this as the highest punishment for the
most offensive crimes one could commit. Hammurabi had first developed the idea of an eye for an
eye, meaning if one commits a horrific crime then the same horrific crime shall be done to him.
Although it began in B.C. era, criminal punishment is still used today. Some of the most

  • 2. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Should Be Banned Essay The Perks of Being a Banned Book The award winning coming of age novel to film, The Perks of Being A Wallflower, has sparked controversy with parents across school districts nationwide since its publishing in 1999. Many students read the book for English class, as a choice read, as a part of a school project or independently, but many parents are disappointed with the books suggestive content. While few bold subjects are written, there is certainly no intention of promoting bad habits or behavior like adults claim that is presented within the novel and this does not represent the novel as a whole. In all of these quotes, Jamison has imaginations of Saturn or space, which most likely implies that she feels distant or alienated from the normal world when she is high. In most cases, feelings such as these are difficult to describe to others, considering, it is better to have experienced it in order to understand it. Nevertheless, Jamison does an excellent job in breaking that barrier, by utilizing metaphors of flying and connecting it to the feelings she obtains when she is high to assist the reader in learning her perspective. Early in her novel, Jamison writes about her family and her life when she was young, explaining the significance flying had in her life. Her father was in the Air Force, so for this reason, their family was forced to travel often. Her father [...] was foremost a scientist and only secondarily a pilot. But he loved to fly, and, because he was a meteorologist, both his mind and his soul ended up being in the skies (11). Since her father always had an interest in flying, it carried on to Jamison, which demonstrates why she uses flying as a metaphor throughout her novel. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The femoral neck or intracapsular fracture occurs when the neck of the femur breaks and sometimes the ball may move out of it s place. This type of fracture happens more likely with athletes and performers. Over years there have been several methods orthopedists have used to fix femoral neck fractures. In 1931, Smith Petersen used internal fixation by reducing pain and pressure to the fractured parts followed by immobilization in a spica cast application. Until 1970 another widely spread method called the multiple pin fixation technique was introduced by another orthopedist. In this method the fracture fragments would heal with the insertion of Pugh nails and Richards screws. Both of these methods include a sliding fixation process where the fractured fragments rub against each other. The second type of hip fracture which is repaired more frequently is intertrochanteric hip fracture. The intertrochanteric hip fracture occurs slightly below the neck of the femur and the lesser trochanter. We use the Myers Briggs instrument to cultivate a culture of respect. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator bridges the leadership gap with a comprehensive development program for crew leaders. Statements above are from some major businesses such as Hallmark, Saint Francis Care and JetBlue Airlines. So what is the Myers Briggs Type Indicator? How can this help your company? The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test designed to assist a person in identifying some significant personal preferences. Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers developed the Indicator during World War II, and its criteria follow from Carl Jung s theories in his work Psychological Types. What makes this test different from other standardized tests is that this classifies people by preferred types. According to Myers Briggs Theory, while types and traits are both inborn, traits can be improved akin to skills, whereas types, if supported by a healthy environment, naturally differentiate over time. The indicator attempts to tell the order in which this occurs in each person, and it is that information, combined with interviews done with others who have indicated having the same preferences, that the complete descriptions are based on. The indicator then, is akin to an arrow which attempts to point in the direction of the proper description. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Four Stages Of Cell Division Cell division is the process by which a cell divides into two or more cells. There are two types of cell division, mitosis, and meiosis. Mitosis is a type of cell division in which one cell divides in to two new daughter cells that are genetically identical to one another. In the context of the cell cycle, mitosis is the part of the division process in which the DNA of the cell s nucleus is split into two equal sets of chromosomes. Mitosis on the other side is a process where a single cell divides in to two cells to produce four cells containing half the original amount of genetic information. These cells are the sex cells sperm in males, eggs in females. Mitosis consist of four steps, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase. On the other side meiosis has nine steps, interphase, prophase I, metaphase I, anaphase I, telophase I cytokinesis, prophase II, metaphase II, anaphase II, and lastly telophase II cytokinesis. Beginning with mitosis, in early prophase the cell starts to break down some structures and build other up, setting the stage for division of the chromosomes. First the chromosomes start to condense (making them easier to pull apart later on). Then the mitotic spindle begins to form. The spindle is a structure made of microtubules, strong fibers that are part of the cell s skeleton. And its job is to organize the chromosome and move them around during mitosis. Include the concepts of elasticity, utility, costs, and market structure to explain the prices charged by fast food retailers. Firms within the fast food industry fall under the market structure of perfect competition. Market structure is a classification system for the key traits of a market. The characteristics of perfect competition include: large number of buyers and sellers, easy entry to and exit from the market, homogeneous products, and the firm is the price taker. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the current prices, firms may sell as much product as they want, thereby maximizing profits. This industry has a very high utility value. Utility is a measure of satisfaction or pleasure that is obtained from consuming a good or service. If consumers feel as if they get a good meal, at a good price, then they re satisfied. This customer satisfaction coupled with relatively low prices keeps the industry profitable. Another quality of perfect competition that may be overlooked, but is vital to this industry is the ease of entry into the market. Start up franchises within this market structure can begin operating with relatively low initial investments (compared to other industries). This is not the case where monopolies are concerned. There are numerous barriers to entry into monopolistic market structures, capital being one of the most prominent barriers. If a new franchise an offer the consumer a quality product at a reduced price, then the chances of success are greatly increased. For example, Chanello s and Little Caesar s offer discounted pizza prices, and maintain the same quality as other pizza chains. Where shall we see a better daughter, or a kinder sister, or a truer friend? No, no; she has qualities which may be trusted; she will never lead any one really wrong; she will make no lasting blunder; where Emma errs once, she is in the right a hundred times (25). This definitely shows what Emma s reputation is like, and how the people close to her view her. One of Emma s main flaws is the fact that she is extremely impulsive with her actions, and she doesn t stop to think about what she s doing until the damage is already done. This happens multiple times throughout the novel, especially when Emma tries to play matchmaker. This is partially due to the fact that she is unable to see reality clearly, which is what happens during her attempt at bringing Harriet and Mr. Elton together. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was when I reviewed my first teaching video that I found how powerful the reflective cycle was. It helped me slow down thinking so that I can attend to what is rather than what I wished were so, and then to shift the weight of that thinking from my own teaching to students learning (Rodgers, 2002, p. 231). • 30. The Pros And Cons Of Dehumanization In America Carolina, the states agreed to keep slavery legal under the constitution. Northerners and Southerners had different views of slaves being considered as property tax and being a counted as an individual into the population for power and economic reasons. To solve the differences the three fifth compromises became there solution. Rather than each slave being counted as a person, three fifths of a state s slave population would be counted toward that state s total population. In this way slaves became three fifths of a human. (DeGruy, 2005, pg. 51). The act of dehumanization to those of African descent caused European individual to feel superior. A significant portion of the population viewed Africans as a lesser species of human than those of European descent. (DeGruy, 2005, pg. 51). This action showed that it was greatly accepted that blacks were inferior. Dehumanizing a race causes self hatred and acts of low self esteem towards those being oppressed. The people of European descent started to develop cognitive dissonance which became detrimental to the black race. Cognitive Dissonance causes human beings not to function well unless all dissonance is removed because it drives a great deal of discomfort. The Role Of Diplomatic Relations Between Germany And Turkey However, many historians have debated not only Germany s role in the severity of Armenian persecution and their motives in involving themselves in the Armenian situation and the, but also their rationale behind forming a relationship with the Ottoman Empire that began in the 1890s. In March of 2007, Dr. Margaret Lavinia Anderson, a Professor Emerita of History at the University of California, Berkeley, published an article in The Journal of Modern History, entitled Down in Turkey, far away : Human Rights, the Armenian Massacres, and Orientalism in Wilhelmine Germany. In this article, Anderson examines the development of diplomatic relations between Germany and Turkey and, more specifically, why Germany became interested in the Near East, their motives, and, later, their alliance. She argues that Germany was mainly focused on developing a strong, influential relationship with the Ottoman Empire during the Wilhelmine era. An alliance with the Turks would be a joint cooperative effort to strengthen and modernize the failing Ottoman military and ensure safe passage into neighboring British colonies for the Germans, still trying to extend their influence beyond the Ottoman Empire eastward. The Germans sought to accomplish this and create a strong coalition by adopting a compliant attitude towards Armenian persecution and reiterating the Turkish rhetoric and belief that the Armenians were getting what they deserved. • 35. The Moral Heroism Of Antigone By Susan B. Anthony Humans are born with the potential to achieve greatness and to create a difference in the world. Though individuals possess the capacity to prove the immorality within them, they also possess an inner hero that is capable of performing tremendous good for the benefit of others. However, seldom do humans actually embrace the courage to stand up for their ethical principles and to challenge the existing social standards that are organized under strict leadership. Famous figures from Susan B. Anthony to Rosa Parks drew their moral heroism from the heroic action of characters in Greek literature such as Sophocles s Antigone. The protagonist, Antigone, creates a conflict between her allegiances to political law and morals when the Theban king Creon decrees that the body of his nephew, Polyneices, remains unburied. To Creon, it sets a substandard example for the future of Thebes because Polyneices attacked his native city in a battle against the invading army of Argos. Since the morals of Antigone have a close connection with true justice and human well being, she defies Creon s laws and vows to give the proper burial rites to Polyneices as they were presented to her brother Eteocles. Antigone s sacrifice to bury her brother results from a need to embrace family pride, a feeling to satisfy the gods desires, and a responsibility to represent the Theban citizens. • 40. The Catholic Faith Paper #2 The Catholic faith is based on this central figure, Jesus, who teaches them how to live in a manner according to the ultimate creator: God. There are ways to view Jesus in the modern day through different means of interaction. One way of interaction with Jesus is achieved when people attend church on Sundays to ensure that they are live according to God through their daily activities. Another way Christians see interaction with Jesus is through Mary and the saints because Mary and the saints are ideal examples of Jesus. These interactions are essential to the Catholic faith, but the most important reappearance of Jesus is through the Sacraments. Essentially, the Sacraments are a way of getting inside of the Bible by committing to the same actions that Jesus performed in the Bible. By conducting the sacraments, a person is considered to be transformed by doing the same things Jesus did. The reappearance of Jesus is best viewed through the Sacraments, more specifically in An Introduction to Catholicism through the explanation of the concept of sacramentality, which encompasses baptism, confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist. In order to grasp an understanding of the Sacraments, a person must first understand the concept of sacramentality. Therefore, while many believe the death penalty should be legalized throughout the United States because it offers a higher form of punishment, others believe the death penalty should be repealed because it causes unnecessary deaths.
