The Benefits Of Recidivism
With the American prison population reaching an alarming high of over 2 million adults incarcerated
in federal and state prisons, one must wonder whether prison is creating a solution to crime or building
upon a problem. As crime rates continue to trickle upwards, states are pushed against a wall paying a
hefty price to house criminals. Furthermore, there seems to be no overbearing improvement in the
mental and social well being of those housed, as recidivism continues to grow as much as two thirds
of released prisoners rearrested ( Recidivism ). While some believe in the power of punishment in
reducing crime, others offer a rehabilitative solution which would restore faith and humanity in the
system for inmates. Author Stuart Henry offers his argument that rehabilitation is the most proactive
solution to decreasing imprisonment rates; alternatively, author Francis Murphy claims that
punishment is the most logical and practical solution to crime, instilling a sense of strict morality.
Ellsworth Fersch s perspective aims to value both rehabilitation and punishment as effective
techniques to handle criminals; Graeme Wood proposes that instead of attempting to solve the crime
problem within prisons, technology should be utilized to save funds and restore humanity for
criminals.
Stuart Henry deduces that ultimately, recidivism and imprisonment rates can only be reduced through
the use of rehabilitative methods, and that punishment has failed to discourage crime. He highlights

Rhetorical Devices In The Jungle
Rhetorical Analysis of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle The Jungle, being a persuasive novel in nature, is
filled with different rhetorical devices or tools used by Sinclair to effectively convey his message.
Sinclair s goal of encouraging change in America s economic structure is not an easy feat and Sinclair
uses a number of different rhetorical devices to aid him. Through his intense tone, use of periodic
sentencing, descriptive diction and other tools of rhetoric, Upton Sinclair constructs a moving novel
that makes his message, and the reasoning behind it, clear.Sinclair s use of periodic sentences allows
him to cram details and supporting evidence into his sentence before revealing his interpretation of the
evidence. Take for example, Here ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
In this case, the relevant parties are Bilbo Baggins acting as plaintiff, and Orc Industries Corporation
acting as defendant. This case originates from the dismissal of Baggins as an employee of Orc
Industries in May 2007 under the grounds of dishonesty and for coming to work under the influence of
alcohol. Orc Industries hired Baggins in December 2006 to assist in the construction of a foundry.
After organizing agreements with unions and contractors, Baggins was accused by Orc Industries for
arriving at work drunk, citing an empty whiskey bottle found in his desk as evidence. The main issue
in this case is Orc Industries terminated Baggin s employment without just cause. It is stated in the law
that, If an employer alleges they had cause for the dismissal, the burden is on them to prove that there
was just cause (Ministry of Labour). The definition of just cause is described as the conduct that
amounts to a fundamental breach of the employment contract , which in this case there was a lack of
sufficient evidence to support that any breach of the contract had occurred (Canada Legal). Orc
Industries claims that the empty bottle of whiskey is sufficient proof, although this is not conclusive
evidence that Baggins was ever drunk at work and thus is not sufficient grounds for terminating his
employment (DuPlessis et al, 2013). Since Orc Industries did not fulfill their burden of proof for just
cause to dismiss Baggins, Baggins can successfully sue Orc Industries for wrongful

The Turn Of The Screw Analysis
The Turn of the Screw is one of the most controversial works in literature and the text has provoked a
variety of critical interpretations from its publication in 1898. In this novel, the governess tells her
experience with two apparitions that no one but she could see. And the governess accuses the ghosts
of servants for corrupting the children, Miles and Flora. Critics concerning about the truth of the story
are divided two basic camps based on their acceptance or rejection of the governess s credibility as a
storyteller. Some critics believe that the ghosts are real and the governess is a rational and credible
narrator, while the others believe that the ghosts are hallucinations of the governess and regard the
governess as an incredible and mentally abnormal narrator. Also, we could speculate the author s
intention on the basis of his life experience and other works of Henry James. This essay will examine
the reliability of the governess on the basis of the text and interpret Henry James s intention on the
basis of other sources. The critics from psychanalytic perspective claim that the existence of ghosts is
the governess s hysterical delusion. The ghost is the projection of governess s own sexual hysteria,
which resulted from the conflict between native romantic impulses and idealistic innocence required
by Victorian society (Renner). The inexperienced governess encounters the handsome, bold, young
gentleman with charming ways with women (James, 4) and she

The Relationship Between North American Free Trade...
Q1. Examine the various types of regional economic integration. What are the differences between the
North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the European Union s level of integration?(2
pages maximum)
Regional economic integration represents agreements between countries in a geographic region to
reduce tariff and non tariff barriers to the free flow of goods, services and factors of production
between each other. Neighboring countries tend to ally because of their proximity to one another,
somewhat similar regional tastes, the relative ease of establishing channels of distribution and a
willingness to cooperate with one another for the greater benefit of all allied parties. Theoretically, the

Customs Union eliminates trade barriers between member countries and adopts a common external
trade policy. Custom union provides for economic cooperation as in a free trade zone. The primary
difference between customs union and free trade area involves members agreeing to treat trade with
non members countries in a similar manner. Most countries who enter a customs union often desire
further integration in the future. For example, the Andean Pact (for agreements between Bolivia,
Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru).
Common Market allows for the creation of economically integrated markets between member
countries. Trade barriers are removed, as are any restrictions on the movement of labor and capital
between member countries. Like customs union, there is a common trade policy for trade with non
member nations. The primary advantage of common markets is workers are no longer needing visa or
work permit to work in another member country of a common market. For example, The Common
Market for Eastern and Southern Africa or simply known as COMESA.
Economic Union occurs when countries enter into an economic agreement to remove barriers to trade
and adopt common economic policies. European Union or simply known as the EU is an example of
economic union.
The European Union or simply known as the EU is often viewed as an emerging

The Healthcare System And Samaritan Health System
Introduction Banner Health is considered one of the nations largest secular, non profit health care
organization operating 29 acute care facilities in seven western states (Kash, 2016). It is known and

Love and Lust in the Lyrics (Shakespeare s Sonnets)
A sonnet is a poem of fourteen lines that rhyme in a particular pattern. William Shakespeare s sonnets
were the only non dramatic poetry that he wrote. Shakespeare used sonnets within some of his plays,
but his sonnets are best known as a series of one hundred and fifty four poems. The series of one
hundred and fifty four poems tell a story about a young aristocrat and a mysterious mistress. Many
people have analyzed and contemplated about the significance of these lovers . After analysis of the
content of both the young man sonnets and the dark lady sonnets , it is clear that the poet,
Shakespeare, has a great love for the young man and only lusts after his mistress.
In order to fully understand the depth of emotion that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the lover, the poet, treats the loved object, the young man, as he would himself. The loved object
serves as a substitute for some unattained ideal. In the case of the sonnets, the ideal is love. Being in
love allows the poet to have what he wants but could not acquire before and serves as a means of
satisfying his self love.
Joseph Pequigney, author of Such is My Love: A Study of Shakespeare s Sonnets, agrees with and
elaborates on Freud. He writes, All of these characteristics belong to the poet s love for the friend. It is
a love that pays handsome narcissistic dividends; it is advantageous also for the friend, who is praised
for personal qualities that would likely pass unnoticed were the poet not under the spell of his beauty.
Pequigney goes on to touch on the antithesis of the poet s love for the young man, his lust for his
mistress the dark lady . Because the mistress offers no self seeking advantages, she is disesteemed
with vice but never virtue ascribed to her (Pequigney 157). The poet attacks and questions her
physical attractiveness as the affair goes on and she arouses lust that comes and goes.
Sonnets 127 154 are addressed to the dark lady (hereafter the mistress). Shakespeare s relations to his
mistress vacillate; sometimes sanguine, tender, teasing, or bitterly anger; yet it is a simpler relation
than that

Theater Arts Performance Review Essay
As many would say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In life, sometimes people are going to have
different opinions and ways of looking at the world. They have their own notions of what speaks to
them, what they admire or believe is magnificent, especially in the work of arts. Enrolled in
Introduction to Theatre Arts, I was given the opportunity to attend many New York s finest plays. In
addition to getting artistic exposure, I am encouraged to give my own thoughts and criticisms of the
performances in order to become into a more informed and analytical audience member. Out of all the
wonderful productions I had a pleasure of attending these last few months, The Castle and Sweat were
both the most impactful performances as many, including myself, were touched by each of the play s
message.
The Castle, devised and directed by David Rothenberg, was the first performance of the semester. It
also was the first production that left a remarkable imprint on me and the rest of the audience
members as it focuses on the lives of former convicts. There were four performers Vilma Ortiz
Donovan, Ervin Hunt, Rory Anderson, and Victor Rojas. They each magnificently told their story of

Love in HJohn Donne´s A Valediction Forbidding Mourning...
Some of the most analyzed aspects of emotion and the life, by literary greats throughout the past
several centuries, have been the issue of death and the physical, spiritual, and emotional attachments
that can be defined as love. Even though writers of prose and poetry have long belabored these two
specific areas of discussion, the depth and diversity in approach is something that can only be
described with regards to the differential between personalities and the world you of the author in
question. Accordingly, the following analysis will be concentric upon discussing and analyzing the
approach and understanding of love that two specific poets exhibit within their respective work. The
first of these poets that will be analyzed is John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, the author focuses a great deal of energy on examining the fact that even though the time to
act is now and an urgency, tension, and immediacy defines the love and passion that the subject has
for the Mistress, a deeper and more profound realization of what defines love and the eternity of
passion and interest that the subject could direct for this Mistress if only she opened her heart and her
body to the subject is reflected in a variety of different ways. For instance, after the exhortation to stop
dismissing the advances of the suitor, Marvell references the fact that in so doing the woman would be
able to experience love as she had never before seen it. Ultimately, what is presented to the reader is
an argument for the immediacy, passion, and necessity to experience love in the moment. However,
due to the fact that a woman would likely find the emotion of immediacy and the need to seize the day
as alarming and definitive of a passing craze or crush, the poetry goes to great lengths to prove that the
nature of the emotions that are being defined are not short lived but will instead last for far longer than
life itself is able to exist. By means of contrast, John

The Impact Of Web 2.0 On The Changing Global Environment
of The World Is Flat) views the impact of Web 2.0 on the changing global environment.
(a) Introduced in 2004 by Tim O Reilly and Dale Dougherty, Web 2.0 is the second generation of the
development of the World Wide Web comparing to its first generation Web 1.0. As a platform of the
network, Web 2.0 creates a dynamic web environment that promotes user participation and interaction,
information sharing and social networking (O Reilly 2009). Web 2.0 users are encouraged to better
use the resource and create contents. While in the Web 1.0 world, websites are static and the internet
users only can read the content and have no opportunity to interact with other users (Cormode and
Krishnamurthy 2008). The following characteristics of Web 2.0 make it different from Web 1.0.
First, Web 2.0 has a dynamic environment comparing to early static webpages created by Web 1.0
where the Internet users only passively read the information provided by the web. However, the
browsers can participate in the information interaction. For example, many website stores, such as
Walmart, Amazon and Walmart, allow customers to submit reviews. So other visitor can use these
reviews to make purchasing decisions.
Second, Web 2.0 emphasizes collective intelligence according to Tim O Reilly (O Reilly 2009). For
example, Wikipedia encourages everyone to contribute information to its encyclopedia projects.
Third, In the Web 2.0, web applications deliver services to internet users and web servers. While Web

Based on the research I have completed, I have expanded my knowledge on hip dysplasia! This
research report contains what I have learned. Contained in this is an introduction to hip dysplasia, the
problem with it, causes, treatments to hip dysplasia and the effects of having hip dysplasia.
First, hip dysplasia, hip dysplasia is where the pelvic bone is not properly in the hip socket. This can
cause problems in walk creating pain. ?3 6 out of 1000 newborns have some form of hip dysplasia or
dysplastic hips.?(Hawkins, Judy C) (Where the hips are shallow in the socket and this can develop
into DDH.) Hip dysplasia or DDH is 9% more common in girls. Also, ?2 3 out of every 1000 infants
will require some sort of treatment for DDH 1 out of every 1000 are diagnosed with DDH.?(Kidd,
Randy) If treated the life expectance for someone with developmental dysplasia of the hips is a full
life. If they are not treated you can live your whole life but will not walk, have a lot of pain and will
most likely need full hip replacements by the age 20.
Some of the physical features and clues that you have hip dysplasia are 1 leg might be longer than the
other, your hip clicks when it is moved in a circle and it also can be detected in ultrasounds and x rays.
It can be passed through families genetically by either parent and it usually skips a generation. This is

The Progressive Republican Views Of The State After World...
Born in Los Angeles, California on March 19,1891, raised in Bakersfield, California and attended UC
Berkley this California native would be the Progressive Republican who reshapes many aspects of
California in his three terms as Governor. Being modest and a realist, were key components in Earl
Warren s success. Although many may have disagreed with Earl Warren s leadership, he made
profound impacts on California by shaping the state after World War II, taking on controversial issues
and bringing lasting changes to California.
The profound impacts he made on shaping California after World War II begun during his time as
California s Attorney General and continued with him into his Governorship. With World War II
ending California would continue to experience an unpredictable expansion socially, economically,
and also set a proactive state government which was led by the Governor during this time of change.
Since California was experiencing a time of expansion, re shaping its post war economy and
continuing thriving programs were crucial. California Progressivism was key behind all of these
movements which ultimately shifted California s role in the nation and gave the sense that the war was
a defining moment in the state s history. A new economy allowed for many of the state s original
industries helped in the post war growth. These industries established themselves during the war
unlike other industries throughout the country, and by doing so helped the state more post war.

The Benefits of Alternative Medicine over Conventional Medicine
I used to be like millions of Americans, thinking: I m too busy to research alternative health care. I
don t even have time to slow down enough to think about it. I know I don t eat right; but there s not
enough time to make healthy food. I m not even sure what is healthy; the experts seem to come up
with new findings that counter previous ones at least once a week. I rely on my doctor to keep me
abreast of any problems; and when one does come up, he has a quick fix for me: antibiotics, anti
depressants, tension relievers, and pills to counter the side effects (like stomach upset, restlessness)
caused by the others. I ve heard of other holistic health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important aspect of my learning is I know that if I raise my son to eat healthy and know how
to take care of himself, he will not have to go through the same difficult learning and unlearning
process that I did. If he prevents the common ailments, as I do now, he won t rely on those quick fixes
as much (which tend to be more harmful in the long run). And most importantly, he won t become an
experimental consumer who is tried out on a variety of drugs (like anti depressants that are so popular
today), in the mean time becoming dependent on them.
You and your family also need to find out about alternatives to conventional medicine. I m not saying
to turn your back on conventional medicine all together; just don t rely on it solely. What everyone can
and should do is be able to take the best from a variety of methods, in anything, but especially
concerning health matters. The Chinese have a proverb: The methods used by one man may be faulty,
the methods used by two men will be better (Monte 29). After hearing that, who could dispute it?
Well, maybe the self interested drug companies who want to keep us dependent on their pills so they
can continue to grow.
I sympathize with everyone who leads a hectic, fast paced life. I understand why there never seems to
be enough time to do the necessary things, let alone the things on the to do someday list. However, if

With a population which has increased more than seven fold since 1948, and with people still coming

Action-Based Discretization for AI Search
Action Based Discretization for AI Search
Dr. Todd W. Neller*
Department of Computer Science Gettysburg College Campus Box 402 Gettysburg, PA 17325 1486
Introduction As computer gaming reaches ever greater heights in realism, we can expect the
complexity of simulated dynamics to reach further as well. To populate such gaming environments
with agents that behave intelligently, there must be some means of reasoning about the consequences
of agent actions. Such ability to seek out the ramifications of various possible action sequences,
commonly called lookahead , is found in programs that play chess, but there are special challenges
that face game programmers who wish to apply AI search techniques to complex continuous
dynamical systems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, we compare three different means of action parameter discretization, including a dispersion
technique that generates an approximate uniform sampling of closed action spaces. Action Based
Discretization Artificial Intelligence search algorithms search discrete systems, yet we live and reason
in a continuous world. Continuous systems must first be discretized, i.e. approximated as discrete
systems, to apply such algorithms. There are two common ways that continuous search problems are
discretized: state based discretization and action based discretization. Statebased discretization
becomes infeasible when the state space is highly dimensional. Actionbased discretization becomes
infeasible when there are too many degrees of freedom. Interestingly, biological high degree of
freedom systems are often governed by a much smaller collection of motion primitives [Mataric,
2000]. We focus here on action based discretization. Action based discretization consists of two parts:
(1) action parameter discretization and (2) action timing discretization, i.e. how and when to act. See
Figure 1. The most popular form of discretization is uniform discretization. It is common to sample
possible actions and action timings at fixed intervals. For the following algorithms, we focus on action
timing discretization. Experimental evidence of this paper and previous studies [Neller, 2000] suggests
that a fixed

Analysis of Curiosity by Alastair Reid Essay
The poem entitled Curiosity written by Alastair Reid is a symbolic poem that uses cats as a metaphor
for humans. It relates felines to people in the sense of curiosity, and what could be considered actually
living life to the fullest. Essentially, this work contradicts the popular phrase, curiosity killed the cat
by placing it within a broader context. Instead of discouraging curiosity, Reid explains why people
should embrace it. In the first stanza, the author argues that the cat may have died from curiosity, but
that it may have been a chosen death. Or else curious to see what death was like, having no cause to
go on licking paws, or fathering litter on litter of kittens, predictably. (lines, 2 5) Basically, the author

If one has no desire to look further in life and discover new ideas or uncharted territory, they will
eventually lose the voracity for their existence. The author even goes to say that the curious are the
only ones with lives worth living and a tale worth telling. The fourth and final stanza includes a
metaphor referring to dogs, which one can assume are symbolic of the uncurious people. Reid states
that the cats, the curious, are lucky. They are nine lived and willing to change. Consequently, they
must be prepared to suffer consequences which seem worth the escapades and excitement they may
encounter. And what cats have to tell on each return from hell is this: that dying is what the living do,
that dying is what the loving do and that dead dogs are those who do not know that dying is what, to
live, each has to do. (lines 39 44) That passage from the last stanza is the most significant of the entire
poem. Reid infers that life in itself is curiosity. If one truly believes that he or she is living, they are
risking consequences. He also conveys love as a risk involving curiosity, but that one has not lived
until one experiences such things. The dead dogs , again, are the uncurious people who simply do not
understand life or love. They are the ones who will never experience life as a cat, life as an adventure

However, a lesser known player named Moses Fleetwood Walker was a player in the Major Leagues

white dominated sport, their attitudes were far from similar. Walker wasn t quite as likable as

four sports during his time in middle and high school, becoming the region s most valuable player in

served in the army for two years, from 1942 1944, as a secondhand lieutenant. Robinson was arrested
in 1945 for refusing to give up his seat on a public bus, but later he was acquitted. After his time in the
army, he began playing baseball professionally in an all African American league for the Kansas City
Monarchs (Dorinson). Branch Rickey, president of the Brooklyn Dodgers, chose Robinson to begin to
integrate Major League Baseball. This became known as Rickey s Noble Experiment (Robinson). He
saw good character in Robinson, and knew he could get positive press and support from the African
American community. Robinson started by playing for the Montreal Royals in 1946, and Rickey

Socrates And Good Brahmin s View On Philosophy
A comparison of both Socrates and the Good Brahmin s attitudes and my view on philosophy
Dr. James Frey
University of the People Introduction
Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems concerning matters such as existence,
knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. (Wiki, n.d.). For years there have been philosophers
of this earth who seek to answer these fundamental questions and come up with varying views on
these vital questions. For this assignment I will compare and contrast the philosophical views of
Socrates Apology and Allegory of the Caves and Voltaire Good Brahmin s along with my own view
on Philosophy.

I am one to questioning and dig deeper. I learn based on my experiences and not merely based on what
I have been told. I like explorations, I hate living in caves, I love seeing the light for myself. True
happiness for me is not an illusion, but rather facing the harsh realities of the world that I live in.
Finally I do concur with Socrates when he said the unexamined life is not worth living (Goodreads

The War Of The Concentration Camp And Extermination Camp...
In November of 1944, John McCloy, the United States Assistant Secretary of War, responded by letter
to John Pehle, United States Executive Director of the War Refugee Board, in opposition and briefly
supported as to why the War Department of the United States was against and why it would not go
through with the bombing operation of the concentration camp and extermination camp at Auschwitz
Birkenau. In the brief McCloy laid out five specific reasons as to why the department would not be
carried out the military plan at that point in time during the war. The five reasons that made up
McCloy s argument were: first, Positive destruction of these camps would necessitate precision
bombing, employing heavy or medium bombardment, or attack by low flying or dive bombing
aircraft, preferably the latter. Second, the target is beyond the maximum range of medium
bombardment, dive bombers and fighter bombers located in United Kingdom, France or Italy. Third,
use of heavy bombardment from United Kingdom bases would necessitate a hazardous round trip
flight unescorted of approximately 2,000 miles over enemy territory. Fourth, At the present critical
stage of the war in Europe, our strategic air forces are engaged in the destruction of industrial target
systems vital to the dwindling war potential of the enemy, from which they should not be diverted.
The positive solution to this problem is the earliest possible victory over Germany, to which end we
should exert our entire means. Fifth,

The Influence of the Greeks and Romans on Architecture
Introduction
Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness. (Gehry, 2012). What Frank
Gehry was trying to say in simple terms was our culture cannot do without proper appreciation of its
classical roots and it goes without saying that the Romans and Greeks have influenced art and
architecture with its classical style in a number of different ways. Allow me to give a definition for the
word classical. Classical refers to any art or architecture modelled after ancient Roman or Greek
styles. In this essay I will be discussing what the word architecture means in architecture, tracing its
origins through Greek and Roman civilisation and comparing the key similarities of these two
different but similar influential cultures. I will also be referring to a few examples of past and present
examples of classical styles and scrutinizing from these examples why and how the style of classical
architecture has evolved and still stayed appropriate in our very different contemporary cultures.
Classical architecture
(Classicalism in architecture has been in interpreted in a number of ways. Classical architecture is a
term used to refer to buildings from the classical period of European history, spanning the rise of
Greece into a major cultural power and ending with the collapse of the Roman Empire. Many
architects are influenced by the styles and themes this style of architecture, and they revived these
themes in the architectural style known as neoclassical

This proposal takes a look on how to save Sawasdee Media company from sinking business. It
concerns with the background of the company, methodology of analysis, and recommendation. The
objective of this proposal is to identify and analyze possible investment projects that are most likely to
be successful in the future. The study points out some reasons that indicate the need of reorganization
of the firm. For financial analysis part, net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR) are
highly involved in determining the level of project value. In addition, it also includes some interesting
market researches from reliable sources to support decision making.

The company staked most of its outlay to the latest TV set, WT 23, in developing, producing and
marketing the product that turned out to be very infamous to the market. In total, the firm spent more
than 80 million Baht for WT 23. Although many electronic experts criticize product s lack of
innovation and poor performance and many journalists see the future of the company as a downturn,
the company promised the new product launch to be a big step for media technology.
Success
Recently, Sawasdee Media completed official partnership contract with True Internet Corporation
which is Thailand s leading Internet provider. This agreement is considered to be a big step for the
company because True Internet Corporation had overall 36% market share in the broadband market in
Thailand and 66% share in Bangkok according to the Bangkok Post report. The contract creates a
perfect opportunity that the firm can use to benefit the new project in the future.
Failure
Last year, the company had to sell its DVD player business to the Hitachi Group in order to generate
money to support the latest television series which turned out to be a big flop to the company. In the
past, the company was used to be very adaptable to several business obstacles whether it is financial
crisis or threat from newcomers. But nowadays, Sawasdee Media, who ever was the number one of
largest television manufacturer in Thailand, is losing its title after a poor

The Vietnam Era Essay
The Vietnam Era HUMN 303N: Introduction to Humanities Professor Stacey Donald DeVry
University During the decades prior to the eighties the two most important issues the U.S. was facing
were the war in Vietnam and civil rights. This era changed the way the public was able view the
events, there was television and photography which allowed the world to see for the first time what
war was about and journalism was not always unbiased. This era was an era of advancement, where
many protested the war, there were the civil rights movement activists striving to gain equality for all

country, a war against poverty and inequality. People of color were fighting for their rights to be seen
as equals in the labor force, education, and in the military. One of the famous leaders of the civil rights
movement was Martin Luther King Jr. who was backed by President Lyndon B, Johnson. President
LBJ was interested in creating welfare programs that would benefit those in poverty and give them
hope, he was all about creating a level playing field to create opportunities that would benefit society
as a whole. According to the Virginia Historical Society there was a piece written by P. B. Young,
editor of the Norfolk Journal and Guide, a newspaper at the time, wrote a few touching words to
Liberals, Help us get some of the blessings of democracy here at home before you jump on the free
other peoples band wagon and tell us to go forth and die in a foreign land. To add to this President
Roosevelt s wife, Eleanor, said The nation cannot expect the colored people to feel that the U.S. is
worth defending if they continue to be treated as they are treated now. Despite of the discrimination
that young black men faced in the military it was still a better option than being unemployed and

Racing Drones
Speed and Efficiency
When it comes to drones, no two flights are the same. From variable wind speeds and air density to
propeller count and battery output, each time you head out to the flight field, get ready to experience a
new snowflake. Depending on the type of flying you re planning on doing and the type of speeds you
re looking to achieve, there needs to be some consideration into the gear your drone will be running. A
racing drone needs different props than a videography drone. Heavy drones need more thrust to get up
and stay off the ground, while other, lighter designs require less, which means some variation in the
LiPo used. Drones meant for surveying need to be efficient at low speeds, optimizing their amount of
time spent airborne. For racing drones, overall efficiency at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If you ve ever been outside, you know that air flows in a somewhat chaotic and unpredictable way,
even if its overall tendencies are well understood. This means that wings and propellers need to be

that the efficiency of a propeller varies depending on how fast air is traveling over the propeller versus
how fast the tips of the propellers are spinning. In aeronautics and marine hydrodynamics, this ratio is

Culture In African American Culture
Music is a creative art form that allows the artist to construct something that expresses a purpose. It
evolves over time and changes as the world changes, taking on many different motivations behind the
melody and lyrics. In today s society, anger, oppression, racism, and negative opinions rule the media
and popular culture. I believe that African Americans need to show their self worth and not let white
people hold them back. With the music in white culture often mocking African American culture and
portraying negative stereotypes, African Americans have to find ways to gain respect. In
acknowledgement of the negative portrayal of their culture, African Americans respond by creating
songs and videos that express their pride in their culture and heritage, react to white oppression, and
communicate their independence.
Kanye West s Blood on the Leaves is a powerful hip hop song that addresses modern day struggles
such as drugs, sex, and poverty. Throughout the song, the lyrics of Strange Fruits by Billie Holiday
blare from the background, stating strange fruit swinging from the poplar trees... blood on the leaves
(Blood on the Leaves) over and over. The mix of the two styles and lyrics creates a dichotomy
between the days of lynching and black oppression and the current struggles that face African
Americans. The contrast between the different types of oppression draws attention to the current
issues of modern day culture. African Americans in today s society are still

This is when a person has delusions of inflated power or worth, such as when Manson thinks he is
God to his cult. Because of the information and research I have thus far, I could definitely associate
Charles Manson with yet another diagnosis of a mental disorder. Using the DSM again, it shows that
the diagnostic criteria for Antisocial Personality Disorder is met by Manson. The symptoms of this
disorder are those such as failure to conform to social norms, conning others, impulsivity,
aggressiveness, recklessness, irresponsibility, and lack of remorse. All of these can basically be made
into adjectives that describe Manson perfectly. He never conformed to the norms of society because he
was always an outcast. He partook in abnormal behaviors. As mentioned previously, he conned a
woman out of $700, so conning people is another criteria met for this disorder. While in prison,
Manson would regularly attack prison guards and other prisoners so aggression is met as well. He was
obviously reckless and irresponsible considering he was a murderer. When interviewed about his
murders he showed no signs of remorse and even laughed inappropriately. These are all symptoms of
Antisocial Personality Disorder. The other criteria for this disorder is that one must have been acting
in such manner since age of fifteen, at least be eighteen at time of diagnosis, and these symptoms must
be present at all times, not just in schizophrenic episodes (4th ed., text

Social Darwinism During The Gilded Age
Social Darwinism was a popular term during the late 19th century. According to Social Darwinism,
the human race evolves only through competition and only the fit survive while the weak cease to
exist. Therefore Social Darwinism applied during the Gilded age meant that the wealthy represented
the fit, whereas the poor represented the weak. Wealthy men like John D. Rockefeller used this to
justify their tremendous wealth gain. However, American industries expanded rapidly; new
technologies and innovations came about and took over the cities which increased production. Many
of Americans and immigrants migrated to the cites to get jobs; but the working conditions during the
time were very poor. Employees worked long hard hours in harsh environments and received little
pay, which caused many people to live in poverty. This poverty issue formulated the theory of Social
Darwinism. Many people used this theory to justify the distinction between the rich and the poor.
Social Darwinism also allowed businessmen to have merit because it allowed them to expand and earn
money. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Women s Rights And Feminist Movements
Although often iconized as a time of industrial and political revolution the 20th Century provided an
equally important platform for social revolution. During this era countless social movements emerged,
notably so the women s rights and feminist movements. Tremendous gains were made for women
throughout the century s span, from suffrage, to equal pay, and the availability of contraceptives. One
of the most complex feminist movements of the 20th century followed the period s most tumultuous
event: World War II. While under occupation by the United States the Japanese feminist movement
flourished and the lives of Japanese women changed dramatically. The feminism of this period, from
the end of the war to the end of occupation, has been studied by numerous historians and is mentioned
in most literature concerning occupation. The leading scholars of occupation feminism have
approached and presented the topic in three distinctly different ways: several focus on cultural
changes, others emphasize the movement s deep historical roots, and some criticize the period as
flawed feminism. The loss of World War II was a catalyst for cultural change within Japan.
Occupation and the subsequent influx of American ideals and culture influenced the changes that
occurred in Japanese women s lives. John Dower, a retired MIT professor of Japanese history, reflects
on these cultural changes in his work Embracing Defeat: Japan in the Wake of World War II .

Assessment And Assessment Of Assessment
Assessment is used to document learning and to plan our next steps. There is evidence of constructive,
specific feedback that is linked to the lesson objectives. Teachers plan assessments to learn what
students have knowledge of and what they need to practice on. Assessment use in the classroom
allows both the students and teachers to see if goals of education are being met. Assessments affect a
variety of things such as the grades students have, instructional needs, and placement in classes.
Assessments can reveal more than just if a student knows the material or not, assessments can also
reveal a students strengths and weaknesses. The student may be able to answer all questions correctly
on a multiple choice test, but then fails an essay questions because they are unable to explain
themselves due to the lack of knowledge of the content. Assessments are a great way to receive data
on the student s knowledge, but making sure the teacher is using the right and appropriate assessment
can be a major factor. My CT gives a variety of assessments when determining the level of
understanding students have reached for the content being taught. When assessing our class, we look
for if students have mastered a topic, need more review, or if something needs to be retaught. Often
my CT will teach a lesson and give a formative assessment whether it be on an online testing website,
by paper test, or having them write short passages about the content. If she analyzes the data and it

My Goals For This Class Based On The Sensory And Diangelo...
My goals for this class based on the Sensory and DiAngelo reading were to focus less on grades and
more on understanding of the concepts, the second was to strive for intellectual humility by accepting
what I do not know and being open to the concepts I do not know, my last goal was to learn from my
reactions towards subject material the may have bothered me by journaling or researching more about
the topic. (Sensory DiAngelo, 2012) These goals I set for the class were met at times, but at other
times I feel that I did not meet these goals as well as I intended to. The first goal to focus less on
grades was mostly met. I found myself not caring about the grades, but then when I had trouble with a
concept or I found myself taking longer to understand what was being asked of me in the homework
assignment I began to feel like my mark would suffer or that I would get a really bad mark, and
although I never got a very terrible mark, I did find myself focusing on it too much at times. I found it
was easier to focus less on the grade at the beginning and at the end of the semester, so I just need to
work on managing my stress in the middle of the semester to keep myself from nitpicking my grades.
I did find that when I did have the time to write out notes for the readings or even just having notes in
the margins it helped me understand and my grades then reflected that, so for the future I will have to
remember to keep that in mind. For the second goal, which was to strive

The Case Of Vitro Human Blood
Thrombosis and Leptin The manifestation of P selection in the case of vitro human platelets is
increased by the Leptin. Fascinatingly, the augmentation of the results of APD induced combination
from the Leptin mitigated in the platelets found from the overweight or the obese patients in
comparison to the normal weight patients. However, other studies showed no effect of Leptin at
concentration levels of up to 500 ng/mL from obese and other normal weight subjects. Results from
44 women diagnosed with obesity, the plasma containing Leptin has a correlation with the excretion
of urinary 11 dehydrothromboxane B2. Restrictions of caloric values reduces the levels of Leptin and
the platelet activity is reduced in the process. This is evident from the reflection of decrease in the
levels of P selectin concentration in the plasma. There is also a positive correlation of plasma Leptin
and the concentrations of the plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 expressed in the men with the ischemic

the von Willebrand and fibrinogen factor (Reaven, 2011). Studies done in Swedish populations

Essay on Georgia OKeefe (includes annotated bibliography)
Georgia O Keefe (word count includes annotated bibliography)
Georgia O Keefe is a famous American painter who painted beautiful flowers and landscapes. But she
painted these images in such a way that many people believed she was portraying sexual imagery. O
Keefe s depictions of flowers in strict frontality and enlarged to giant scale were entirely original in
character . . . the view into the open blossoms evoked an image of the female psyche and invited erotic
associations. (Joachimides 47) O Keefe denies these allegations and says that she magnified the scale
of the flower only to ensure people would notice them. (Haskell 203) O Keefe s artwork was
misinterpreted because of cultural prejudice, her non traditional lifestyle, and ... Show more content on

When she began creating beautiful artwork in school and was being commended by other teachers and
students, she gained an incredible sense of self worth and put her painful childhood in the back of her
mind. (19) She grew up to be a very strong, independent person and she did not care if she was
judged, as long as she liked who she was. As a result of her father leaving when she was young, she
felt that males were not good enough for her and she developed a strong sense of feminism. In fact, for
awhile, Georgia explored her sexuality and dated predominantly women for a significant part of her
life. This factor did effect her painting, but not in a sexual way. She painted images that were close ups
, allowing you to see deep into them and to be close to them. She yearned to be close to someone but
was afraid to be hurt again. Georgia s non traditional lifestyle did affect her life, but did not force her
to create sexual female images. It may be more accurate to read her drawings as intimations of a less
literal and more profound view of reality. (Peters 29)
Georgia grew up in a time where people still had little respect for women. A woman s role was to stay
home and be a housekeeper. They had no self worth until they were married. So, when women started
to get jobs just like their husbands or lived their lives without a husband, people were shocked and
most looked down upon

Freedom Writers Movie Analysis
The movie, Freedom Writers, created in 2007, and directed by Richard LaGravenese, is an exceptional
movie about a class at Woodrow Wilson High School that was involved in gang violence in the early
90 s. The class s teacher, Erin Gruwell, changes their lives and shows them that life is not all about
gangs. Additionally, she has her class write in journals that later on get published into a book; the class
titles the book, Freedom Writers. Throughout the film, LaGravenese does a superb job of displaying
the students stories in a way that plays with one s emotions. Furthermore, LaGravenese also delineates
Gruwell s ability to change the students lives. Overall, this is an excellent movie because it shows how
a single person can make a difference, and how people can overcome the most horrific hardships. The
film is set in Long Beach, California, in the early 90 s, and is focused on Erin Gruwell, a new english
teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School. Erin was excited to teach, however her first day did not go
as well as she hoped. The students in her class are extremely rowdy and apathetic towards learning. As
the days go on, Erin tries different ways to try to relate to the kids to teach them. Nevertheless, the
kids were still unwilling to learn because they had no respect towards Erin. Eventually, Erin learns
that the kids do not even know what the Holocaust is. Additionally, Erin also purchases journals for
her students; she wants her students to write their own personal experiences in them, and gives her
students the option to let her read them. Most of them decided to do so. When Erin reads the journals
she learns about the horrific tragedies a lot of the students have had to face. This makes Erin more
passionate about her job, and makes her want to teach her students even more, so she decides to take
them on a field trip to a Holocaust museum. The field trip had a huge impact on the students, and
made them more driven to learn. As the year progresses, the students have more respect for Erin. Erin
has her students read the diary of Anne Frank; the students were so moved by the novel that they
fundraise to get the woman who housed Anne Frank, Miep Gies, speak at the school. After sometime,
Erin has her

Grandma Kuhn Definition Of A Mentor
Definition of mentor; An experienced and trusted advisor. We as catholics have some of the strongest
faith in our Lord, but who do we have as mentors? We all have different people we see as mentors.
Whether in sports, education, life, and in this case faith. For my faith mentor I look up to my grandma
Kuhn. I see her as the exact definition of mentor.
The family she has raised and started is very big with many, many grandkids and great grandkids. She
and my grandpa are the roots to the very large Kuhn family. She has been through hard times and
good. Through all she has kept her faith. This is why I chose her. Through thick and thin she has
remained a devoted catholic and always kept true to her ways.
My grandma has always showed faith by her actions. She has helped our church up until a couple
years ago when she finally showed her age at 96. She has made kettle corn at the Oconee Fall Festival
for years and years. For many years grandma would take truck loads of donations to the appalachian
mountains. Clothes, toys, supplies, whatever she and my grandpa could round up they made the trek to
the appalachians to help the people up there out. When my grandma was able she went to every mass
she could. Always in the same seat too. Before mass she would say the rosary and most likely be
ahead a decat. Everyone at her church knows her and how amazing her ... Show more content on

She barely gets out anymore, besides around the house, but it doesn t stop her from receiving
communion. She makes sure every Sunday someone brings her the Eucharist. She can t do what she
used to but as of a couple year ago she went to church every day. Everytime I visit her she is in the
greatest mood. Always asking how I am and what I ve been up to. The reason I picked my grandma is
because she is a Christian I strive to be like. Every Sunday she receives communion, has done many
kind acts in her life, carries a rosary every where she goes, and is just a all around great

  • 2. The Benefits Of Recidivism With the American prison population reaching an alarming high of over 2 million adults incarcerated in federal and state prisons, one must wonder whether prison is creating a solution to crime or building upon a problem. As crime rates continue to trickle upwards, states are pushed against a wall paying a hefty price to house criminals. Furthermore, there seems to be no overbearing improvement in the mental and social well being of those housed, as recidivism continues to grow as much as two thirds of released prisoners rearrested ( Recidivism ). While some believe in the power of punishment in reducing crime, others offer a rehabilitative solution which would restore faith and humanity in the system for inmates. Author Stuart Henry offers his argument that rehabilitation is the most proactive solution to decreasing imprisonment rates; alternatively, author Francis Murphy claims that punishment is the most logical and practical solution to crime, instilling a sense of strict morality. Ellsworth Fersch s perspective aims to value both rehabilitation and punishment as effective techniques to handle criminals; Graeme Wood proposes that instead of attempting to solve the crime problem within prisons, technology should be utilized to save funds and restore humanity for criminals. Stuart Henry deduces that ultimately, recidivism and imprisonment rates can only be reduced through the use of rehabilitative methods, and that punishment has failed to discourage crime. • 4. Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien In this case, the relevant parties are Bilbo Baggins acting as plaintiff, and Orc Industries Corporation acting as defendant. This case originates from the dismissal of Baggins as an employee of Orc Industries in May 2007 under the grounds of dishonesty and for coming to work under the influence of alcohol. Orc Industries hired Baggins in December 2006 to assist in the construction of a foundry. After organizing agreements with unions and contractors, Baggins was accused by Orc Industries for arriving at work drunk, citing an empty whiskey bottle found in his desk as evidence. The main issue in this case is Orc Industries terminated Baggin s employment without just cause. It is stated in the law that, If an employer alleges they had cause for the dismissal, the burden is on them to prove that there was just cause (Ministry of Labour). The definition of just cause is described as the conduct that amounts to a fundamental breach of the employment contract , which in this case there was a lack of sufficient evidence to support that any breach of the contract had occurred (Canada Legal). Orc Industries claims that the empty bottle of whiskey is sufficient proof, although this is not conclusive evidence that Baggins was ever drunk at work and thus is not sufficient grounds for terminating his employment (DuPlessis et al, 2013). Since Orc Industries did not fulfill their burden of proof for just cause to dismiss Baggins, Baggins can successfully sue Orc Industries for wrongful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Turn Of The Screw Analysis The Turn of the Screw is one of the most controversial works in literature and the text has provoked a variety of critical interpretations from its publication in 1898. In this novel, the governess tells her experience with two apparitions that no one but she could see. And the governess accuses the ghosts of servants for corrupting the children, Miles and Flora. Critics concerning about the truth of the story are divided two basic camps based on their acceptance or rejection of the governess s credibility as a storyteller. Some critics believe that the ghosts are real and the governess is a rational and credible narrator, while the others believe that the ghosts are hallucinations of the governess and regard the governess as an incredible and mentally abnormal narrator. Also, we could speculate the author s intention on the basis of his life experience and other works of Henry James. This essay will examine the reliability of the governess on the basis of the text and interpret Henry James s intention on the basis of other sources. The critics from psychanalytic perspective claim that the existence of ghosts is the governess s hysterical delusion. The ghost is the projection of governess s own sexual hysteria, which resulted from the conflict between native romantic impulses and idealistic innocence required by Victorian society (Renner). The series of one hundred and fifty four poems tell a story about a young aristocrat and a mysterious mistress. Many people have analyzed and contemplated about the significance of these lovers . The loved object serves as a substitute for some unattained ideal. In the case of the sonnets, the ideal is love. Being in love allows the poet to have what he wants but could not acquire before and serves as a means of satisfying his self love. Joseph Pequigney, author of Such is My Love: A Study of Shakespeare s Sonnets, agrees with and elaborates on Freud. He writes, All of these characteristics belong to the poet s love for the friend. It is a love that pays handsome narcissistic dividends; it is advantageous also for the friend, who is praised for personal qualities that would likely pass unnoticed were the poet not under the spell of his beauty. Pequigney goes on to touch on the antithesis of the poet s love for the young man, his lust for his mistress the dark lady . Because the mistress offers no self seeking advantages, she is disesteemed with vice but never virtue ascribed to her (Pequigney 157). The poet attacks and questions her physical attractiveness as the affair goes on and she arouses lust that comes and goes. Sonnets 127 154 are addressed to the dark lady (hereafter the mistress). For instance, after the exhortation to stop dismissing the advances of the suitor, Marvell references the fact that in so doing the woman would be able to experience love as she had never before seen it. Ultimately, what is presented to the reader is an argument for the immediacy, passion, and necessity to experience love in the moment. (a) Introduced in 2004 by Tim O Reilly and Dale Dougherty, Web 2.0 is the second generation of the development of the World Wide Web comparing to its first generation Web 1.0. As a platform of the network, Web 2.0 creates a dynamic web environment that promotes user participation and interaction, information sharing and social networking (O Reilly 2009). Web 2.0 users are encouraged to better use the resource and create contents. While in the Web 1.0 world, websites are static and the internet users only can read the content and have no opportunity to interact with other users (Cormode and Krishnamurthy 2008). The following characteristics of Web 2.0 make it different from Web 1.0. First, Web 2.0 has a dynamic environment comparing to early static webpages created by Web 1.0 where the Internet users only passively read the information provided by the web. However, the browsers can participate in the information interaction. For example, many website stores, such as Walmart, Amazon and Walmart, allow customers to submit reviews. So other visitor can use these reviews to make purchasing decisions. Second, Web 2.0 emphasizes collective intelligence according to Tim O Reilly (O Reilly 2009). To populate such gaming environments with agents that behave intelligently, there must be some means of reasoning about the consequences of agent actions. Such ability to seek out the ramifications of various possible action sequences, commonly called lookahead , is found in programs that play chess, but there are special challenges that face game programmers who wish to apply AI search techniques to complex continuous dynamical systems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, we compare three different means of action parameter discretization, including a dispersion technique that generates an approximate uniform sampling of closed action spaces. Action Based Discretization Artificial Intelligence search algorithms search discrete systems, yet we live and reason in a continuous world. Continuous systems must first be discretized, i.e. approximated as discrete systems, to apply such algorithms. There are two common ways that continuous search problems are discretized: state based discretization and action based discretization. Statebased discretization becomes infeasible when the state space is highly dimensional. Actionbased discretization becomes infeasible when there are too many degrees of freedom. Interestingly, biological high degree of freedom systems are often governed by a much smaller collection of motion primitives [Mataric, 2000]. We focus here on action based discretization. Action based discretization consists of two parts: (1) action parameter discretization and (2) action timing discretization, i.e. how and when to act. See Figure 1. The most popular form of discretization is uniform discretization. It is common to sample possible actions and action timings at fixed intervals. For the following algorithms, we focus on action timing discretization. Experimental evidence of this paper and previous studies [Neller, 2000] suggests that a fixed ... It relates felines to people in the sense of curiosity, and what could be considered actually living life to the fullest. Essentially, this work contradicts the popular phrase, curiosity killed the cat by placing it within a broader context. Instead of discouraging curiosity, Reid explains why people should embrace it. In the first stanza, the author argues that the cat may have died from curiosity, but that it may have been a chosen death. The author even goes to say that the curious are the only ones with lives worth living and a tale worth telling. The fourth and final stanza includes a metaphor referring to dogs, which one can assume are symbolic of the uncurious people. Reid states that the cats, the curious, are lucky. They are nine lived and willing to change. Consequently, they must be prepared to suffer consequences which seem worth the escapades and excitement they may encounter. And what cats have to tell on each return from hell is this: that dying is what the living do, that dying is what the loving do and that dead dogs are those who do not know that dying is what, to live, each has to do. (lines 39 44) That passage from the last stanza is the most significant of the entire poem. Reid infers that life in itself is curiosity. If one truly believes that he or she is living, they are risking consequences. He also conveys love as a risk involving curiosity, but that one has not lived until one experiences such things. The dead dogs , again, are the uncurious people who simply do not understand life or love. They are the ones who will never experience life as a cat, life as an adventure ... In November of 1944, John McCloy, the United States Assistant Secretary of War, responded by letter to John Pehle, United States Executive Director of the War Refugee Board, in opposition and briefly supported as to why the War Department of the United States was against and why it would not go through with the bombing operation of the concentration camp and extermination camp at Auschwitz Birkenau. In the brief McCloy laid out five specific reasons as to why the department would not be carried out the military plan at that point in time during the war. The five reasons that made up McCloy s argument were: first, Positive destruction of these camps would necessitate precision bombing, employing heavy or medium bombardment, or attack by low flying or dive bombing aircraft, preferably the latter. Second, the target is beyond the maximum range of medium bombardment, dive bombers and fighter bombers located in United Kingdom, France or Italy. Third, use of heavy bombardment from United Kingdom bases would necessitate a hazardous round trip flight unescorted of approximately 2,000 miles over enemy territory. Fourth, At the present critical stage of the war in Europe, our strategic air forces are engaged in the destruction of industrial target systems vital to the dwindling war potential of the enemy, from which they should not be diverted. The positive solution to this problem is the earliest possible victory over Germany, to which end we should exert our entire means. Fifth, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Frank Gehry was trying to say in simple terms was our culture cannot do without proper appreciation of its classical roots and it goes without saying that the Romans and Greeks have influenced art and architecture with its classical style in a number of different ways. Allow me to give a definition for the word classical. Classical refers to any art or architecture modelled after ancient Roman or Greek styles. In this essay I will be discussing what the word architecture means in architecture, tracing its origins through Greek and Roman civilisation and comparing the key similarities of these two different but similar influential cultures. I will also be referring to a few examples of past and present examples of classical styles and scrutinizing from these examples why and how the style of classical architecture has evolved and still stayed appropriate in our very different contemporary cultures. Classical architecture (Classicalism in architecture has been in interpreted in a number of ways. Classical architecture is a term used to refer to buildings from the classical period of European history, spanning the rise of Greece into a major cultural power and ending with the collapse of the Roman Empire. It evolves over time and changes as the world changes, taking on many different motivations behind the melody and lyrics. In today s society, anger, oppression, racism, and negative opinions rule the media and popular culture. I believe that African Americans need to show their self worth and not let white people hold them back. With the music in white culture often mocking African American culture and portraying negative stereotypes, African Americans have to find ways to gain respect. Because of the information and research I have thus far, I could definitely associate Charles Manson with yet another diagnosis of a mental disorder. Using the DSM again, it shows that the diagnostic criteria for Antisocial Personality Disorder is met by Manson. The symptoms of this disorder are those such as failure to conform to social norms, conning others, impulsivity, aggressiveness, recklessness, irresponsibility, and lack of remorse. All of these can basically be made into adjectives that describe Manson perfectly. He never conformed to the norms of society because he was always an outcast. He partook in abnormal behaviors. As mentioned previously, he conned a woman out of $700, so conning people is another criteria met for this disorder. While in prison, Manson would regularly attack prison guards and other prisoners so aggression is met as well. He was obviously reckless and irresponsible considering he was a murderer. When interviewed about his murders he showed no signs of remorse and even laughed inappropriately. These are all symptoms of Antisocial Personality Disorder. According to Social Darwinism, the human race evolves only through competition and only the fit survive while the weak cease to exist. Therefore Social Darwinism applied during the Gilded age meant that the wealthy represented the fit, whereas the poor represented the weak. Wealthy men like John D. However, American industries expanded rapidly; new technologies and innovations came about and took over the cities which increased production. Many of Americans and immigrants migrated to the cites to get jobs; but the working conditions during the time were very poor. Employees worked long hard hours in harsh environments and received little pay, which caused many people to live in poverty. This poverty issue formulated the theory of Social Darwinism. During this era countless social movements emerged, notably so the women s rights and feminist movements. Tremendous gains were made for women throughout the century s span, from suffrage, to equal pay, and the availability of contraceptives. One of the most complex feminist movements of the 20th century followed the period s most tumultuous event: World War II. The feminism of this period, from the end of the war to the end of occupation, has been studied by numerous historians and is mentioned in most literature concerning occupation. The leading scholars of occupation feminism have approached and presented the topic in three distinctly different ways: several focus on cultural changes, others emphasize the movement s deep historical roots, and some criticize the period as flawed feminism. Throughout the film, LaGravenese does a superb job of displaying the students stories in a way that plays with one s emotions. Furthermore, LaGravenese also delineates Gruwell s ability to change the students lives. Overall, this is an excellent movie because it shows how a single person can make a difference, and how people can overcome the most horrific hardships. The film is set in Long Beach, California, in the early 90 s, and is focused on Erin Gruwell, a new english teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School. Erin was excited to teach, however her first day did not go as well as she hoped. The students in her class are extremely rowdy and apathetic towards learning. As the days go on, Erin tries different ways to try to relate to the kids to teach them. Nevertheless, the kids were still unwilling to learn because they had no respect towards Erin. Eventually, Erin learns that the kids do not even know what the Holocaust is. Additionally, Erin also purchases journals for her students; she wants her students to write their own personal experiences in them, and gives her students the option to let her read them. Most of them decided to do so. When Erin reads the journals she learns about the horrific tragedies a lot of the students have had to face. This makes Erin more passionate about her job, and makes her want to teach her students even more, so she decides to take them on a field trip to a Holocaust museum. The field trip had a huge impact on the students, and made them more driven to learn. As the year progresses, the students have more respect for Erin. Erin has her students read the diary of Anne Frank; the students were so moved by the novel that they fundraise to get the woman who housed Anne Frank, Miep Gies, speak at the school. Always in the same seat too. Before mass she would say the rosary and most likely be ahead a decat. Everyone at her church knows her and how amazing her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
