The Impact Of Old-Time Radio Era On American Culture
There have been many different aspects that have come out of the old time radio era that have
impacted our culture today. It was not just the news that people learned about it was also
entertainment. Usually, in a time when there was nothing to be happy about. In order for us to
understand the difference that these people made in the lives of others. It needs to be understood why
they were created and where they came from. Also, it was not just about the actors, it was the story
lines and the dramas that helped people escape and either enjoy a good thriller or comedy show. A
radio drama is a dramatized performance, broadcasted on the radio or it was published on audio media
for instance a tape or CD. These tapes became very popular during ... Show more content on

While this is usually not necessarily a lousy concept, the fiasco on October 31st, 1938 between 8 and
9 PM said a different story. The WABC radio broadcast network decided to air an episode of, The
Mercury Theatre on the Air . Directed by Orson Welles the group performed their adaption of, The
war of the Worlds , written by Howard Koch s. The actors in the group did such a marvelous job that
people listening in actually believed that they were listening to a live news report of a sure enough
alien invasion. This broadcast caused such a mass panic that now when you are watching or listening
to mockumentary or fake broadcast there is always a disclaimer. According to an article run in the,
Daily News titled, Fake Radio war Stirs Terror Through U.S., in 1938. It stated that, Thousands flee.
Without waiting for further details, thousands of listeners rushed from their homes in New York and
New Jersey, many with towels across their faces to protect themselves from gas which the invader was
supposed to be spewing forth. Simultaneously, thousands more in states that stretched west to
California and south to the Gulf of Mexico rushed to their telephones to inquire of newspapers, the
police, switchboard operators, and electric companies what they should do to protect themselves.

Corporate Capacity And Authority
Corporate capacity and authority were essential legal concepts which contained rules for when and
how a company ought to be legally recognised as having validly acted and entered into a binding
contract with third parties. Broadly speaking, the rules which applied to corporate capacity were the
ultra vires doctrine and the doctrine of constructive notice. In regard to the concept of corporate
authority, both the ultra vires doctrine and the doctrine of constructive notice also applied however
their application was curtailed by the Turquand rule. The Turquand rule therefore only applied when
the authority of directors was in question. A definitional overview of the concepts of corporate
capacity and authority will be provided below, along with brief description of the doctrine of
constructive notice and the Turquand rule. The thesis deals with the above concepts and discusses how
the Companies Act 71 of 2008 (the Act) modified the law, particularly, by extending the legal capacity
of a company and extinguishing or modifying the above rules which had previously restricted a
company s ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For a company to transact with third parties and to enter into valid business dealings there must be a
valid contract concluded in order to create legally binding obligations enforceable between the
company and the third party. For a contract to be valid the company must have the requisite legal
capacity to enter into the contract and the directors or officers representing the company must have the
authority to act on its behalf. Within company law, capacity and authority are interrelated principles
however it is important to note that each is an entirely different and separate legal concept from the
other. Capacity relates to the legal competency and the powers of the company while authority relates
to the power of a company s director or officer to act on behalf of the

The Adventure Of A Speckled Band By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
In the mysterious and intriguing story, The Adventure of a Speckled Band, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,
a clever detective by the name of Sherlock Holmes and his loyal assistant Dr. Watson quickly solved a
forever evolving case. In a small town in April, 1883, a woman by the name of Helen Stoner fears for
her life with her impending wedding. She questions the mysterious and sudden death of her sister
Julia. Helen Stoner approached Sherlock Holmes, hoping that he would assist her in this state of panic.
Sherlock Holmes, intrigued by the severity of the case, listened intently on the information Helen
provided. Helen s stepfather, Dr. Grimesby Roylott, was known as a violent man who is unable to
control his temper. Dr. Roylott, a wealthy man, lived on a large plot known as Stoke Moran, where
Helen lived as well. Stoke Moran is the place of death for Helen s sister Julia. Helen told Holmes that
a low whistle could be heard in the middle of the night, adding that she heard the whistle on the night
of Julia s death. Despite this, the court concluded that no individual had killed Julia; although it was
believed she died of natural causes. Yet, Sherlock Holmes will not settle for this conclusion and took
on the case, planning to further investigate Stoke Moran until Dr. Roylott himself confronts Holmes in
his office telling him to mind his own business. Of course, Holmes and Watson disregarded Dr.
Roylott s threats, arriving at the crime scene later that same day. As Holmes and

IS, LM model and explanations(in the form of an essay).
Essay topic1.
Introduction:
During the years after World War II, the development of the IS LM model took several directions.
Probably, the most prominent ideas on that theory were expressed in the work of John Hicks called
Mr. Keynes and the Classics . The model expressed in the article was largely based on the works of
John Maynard Keynes and became a widely accepted as the alternative framework to standard
Keynesian analysis. The IS LM model is a way of modelling equilibrium in the economy by looking
at equilibrium in the goods and services markets (the IS curve) and equilibrium in the money markets
(LM curve). Where both these markets are in equilibrium will be the equilibrium level of income. The
IS LM model looks at income against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the amount of income from Y`1 to Y1 will be anattainable because of outcrowding of the
private sector by the public sector investment (shaded area).
The degree of crowding out depends on severeal factors. One of them is the extent of multiplier effect.
Multiplier effect occurs when increase in investment or any other autonomous expenditure leads to
even greater increase in income. For example, it may become widely believed that the MPC
(Monetary Policy Committee) is going to reduce the rate of interest. In that case, number of leackages
in the economy in the form of savings is likely to decline and consumption to increase. This will result
in the larger propensity to consume for every marginal unit of income. Increase in consumption should
lead to increase in investment and more flatter IS curve (see figure 3), which will mean greater degree
of crowding out.

There are other factors influencing the extent of crowding out effect. Effectivness of fiscal policy also
depends on the elasticities of IS and LM schedules. If investment is relatively sensetive to the changes
in the rate of interest, than for any change in interest rate there will relatively big change in investment
and correspondingly equilibrium rate of output. In that case the IS curve will be relatively interest
elastic and flatter. If the IS curve is

Theme Of All My Sons By Joe Keller
There is nothing ruthless about Joe, no hint of the robber baron in his make up , his ambitions are
small a comfortable home for his family, a successful business to pass on to his sons, but he is not
completely fastidious in achieving his goals.
Joe Keller is the most important character in the play, All My Sons.
Miller who wrote All My Sons with human understanding but moral sinew as well as dramaturgy
summarised his theme, John Gossner says as, the responsibility of man to society or the responsibility
to the world and outside his home as well as in his own home .
Joe Keller is a social, amiable man with a strong sense of humour.
Indeed, Joe Keller strikes us as an eminently social man with an amiable nature.

Thus, the exposure of his guilt in the supply of defective cylinder heads, and of the fact of his being

Joe Keller is a moving character whose place in All My Sons is quite important.
Chris Keller, son of Joe Keller, becomes a prototype of a person having moral values of living life.
While his father regards the family as the biggest or most important thing in life, he puts the society or
humanity as a whole on a higher plane than the individual or the family.

When I was watching the documentary the 13th and seeing everybody view on the War on Drugs a

Many people believe that the War on Drugs was literally a war on Blacks. In 1865 the 13th
Amendment to the Constitution was pass. The amendment made it unconstitutional for someone to be
held as a slave. AKA it grants freedom for all Americans. Except criminals, but here the problem after
slave was ended African Americans had nowhere to go and could not get jobs because they was

Virgo Constellation
I have chosen Virgo as my constellation. The reasons are that it is my Zodiac sign, and it s meaning is
The Virgin . I have also chosen it because it s traits describe me. The traits are: analytical, observant,
helpful, reliable, precise, skeptical, fussy, inflexible, cold, and interfering. Virgo is tied with the Greek
goddess Persephone. Persephone was abducted and taken to the underworld by Hades. Persephone
lived with Hades and they fell in love. In revenge, her mother, Demeter, ruined the harvests. People
starved as the crops died and the land became infertile. Zeus, her father, was forced to issue a decree
stating that Persephone should spend only a short time each year in the underworld. When she was

Pheromone Paper
A pheromone is defined as a substance that causes a response in a natural behavioral response in
another animal of the same species. There are an abundant amount of pheromones presently. For
instance the alarm pheromones sex pheromones, food trail pheromones, and many others that affect
behavior. Pheromonal use among insects has been well documented, even though many plants and
vertebrates communicate using pheromones.
Pheromones are believed to be found throughout the world and have been traced back to the most
ancient form of animal communication. For example the word pheromones originated from the
Roman culture because it was believed soldiers had this intoxicating scent that attracted women. Yet in
fact it was the heavy musky smell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientific studies have now shown that women are equally affected by pheromones from both sexes.
Women who usually experience short or long menstrual cycles get somewhat closer cycles after
regularly inhaling male essence which has been described as a certain amount of body odor, sweat,
and hormones. Females who have been exposed to other female pheromones for certain durations of
time whether it is months or years tend to have experienced relatively insync menstruated cycles after
few months. This study has confirmed a long disputed theory that females no matter what race or
relation menstruate at coinciding times. Over the last couple of decades pheromones have been
documented in over hundreds if not thousands of types of animals and insects. Yet, in most cases
particularly mammals there is an organ specialized in detection located in the inner parts of the nose or
inside the oral cavity. This organ is sometimes called the vomeronasal organ or when used around
scientists the VNO organ. There has been an abundance of evidence that say that human pheromones
really do exist. For example a newborn would preferably want a piece of clothing worn by its parents
or more so the mother because the pheromones of the mother is what the baby has known since the
beginning of its life. New experimental research suggests that both human

Vj Junction
1.) It can be assured that the heavy chain will create a VDJ junction but not a VJ junction because of
the 12/23 rule. A gene segment flanked by an RSS with a 12 base pair spacer typically can only be
joined to one flanked by a 23 base pair spacer RSS. So, for the heavy chain, a D segment can be
joined to a J gene segment and a V gene segment to D gene segment but the V gene segment can not
be directly joined to the J gene segment. Both the V and J gene segments are flanked by a 23 base pair
spacer and the D segments have 12 base pair spacers on both sides. The light chain VJ junction will
always be derived from a single type of light chain and not the result of κ or λ hybridization because
the κ and λ are two separate loci that are located on two different chromosomes. ... Show more content

The κ loci is located on human chromosome 2, the cluster of V gene segments is followed by a cluster
of J gene segments and then a single C gene. The light chain VJ segment cannot be a product of κ or λ
hybridization because in order for that to occur, they would have to be located on the same
chromosome (Murphy 2012). Production of a complete antigen receptor includes two series of gene
segment rearrangements, one for each receptor chain locus. Each of these rearrangements continues
until a complete protein is made and the cell moves on to the next stage in development. The most
important factor is the V regions that are encoded by separate gene segments (V, D and J segments),
which are brought together by somatic recombination to create a complete V region exon. The V
region of an immunoglobulin heavy or light chain is encoded by multiple gene segments. For the light
chain, the V domain is made up of 2 gene segments, the V gene segment and the J gene segment. The
joining of the V and J segments creates an exon that encodes the entire light chain V

What Does Nigger Mean
Use of the N word
In America, racial slurs are used, frequently at that. The word nigger is a common derogatory word,
and that s when the discussion on whether or not the word should be freed come in. To put it another
way, some people see it as they mean no harm in saying it, and if it s in a popular rap song why not
sing along; while others see it as, the word was used by past opressores, and the word was used to talk
down upon African Americans, so there s no good intention in the use of the word. Ultimately, the

if everyone s equal why is the word used, when it s main reason is to differentiate one race from

and it s confusing why only some see this as a problem. (Thompson) The word isn t in the dictionary
for it s good name, it s in there to show the negative image it once held strongly against black people.
The shackles had been taken off the ankles and wrapped around the mind. And she would say that we

longest, and now in the 21st century, the use of the word nigger is repeating the words and
discrimination black people worked so hard to overcome. (Thompson) All in all, nigger is throwing
salt to the wounds to black people who faced oppression, not only do white people say it minorities do

Disadvantages Of Maid In Mumbai
Maids in Mumbai Splurge or Necessity! In a city like it
Time is money, that s how the famous saying goes. Isn t it wise choosing to spend money instead of
time in the endeavor to keep your home clean and organized? `Hell yes! Many would agree to that.
Mumbai is abundant of people with fast paced lifestyles, hectic schedules and lack of free time which
is why managing house chores without domestic help is a far fetched reality. Also, a notion has been
doing the rounds for quite some time that women are more at the mercy of maids than they are for
their professional or personal chiefs. Admit it or not, but this belief is undeniable to a reasonable
extent.
Being a parent To the busy moms and occupied dads out there, all of you will attest to the fact having
a maid to serve your needs, makes the daily strains of parenting a bit more bearable. While the
handmaiden ensures your house remains in order, you better spend time taking care of the child whose

Old Spice, Become a Man
Most of us have probably seen the Old Spice commercials with the confident and fast talking Isaiah
Mustafa, AKA The Old Spice Man. These commercials first began in early 2010 and have since
become a whole series of some of the most popular commercials on television and the internet. But
what is it about these ads that make them so appealing? To answer this question, this paper will focus
on the commercial that started it all: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like. Although this ad does
surprisingly little to realistically describe the product it is advertising, its clever and difficult to notice
of all three first parts of appeal convinced many people to switch to Old Spice, and, at the same time
helped Old Spice reach a close connection with its target audience, this way embedding itself into our
popular culture.
Before getting into any analysis, I would like to give brief summary of how the ad goes forward.
Mustafa, in a bathroom wearing nothing but a towel, starts a speech which describes how anything is
possible when a man uses Old Spice body wash. In one continuous take, Mustafa moves from the
bathroom to a sailboat, to a sandy beach, and lastly, to horseback riding. The commercial ends with
Mustafa delivering the non sequitur punchline, I m on a horse, and the camera zooms out to show the
audience that Mustafa is in fact riding a horse. Also, Mustafa completes all this

Iranian Women In Public Spaces
However, this was not the case, and those who followed the Koran and a neo conservative way of
thinking welcomed women into the workplace in larger percentages than would be expected. Amir
Ebrahimi, a scholar on women s physical role in the public in the Middle East supports this by saying
This frequent presence in the different public spaces gave women a new consciousness about
themselves and their individual and citizen rights in the society. These changes can also be attributed
to the want of women to continue life in the public sphere, and to show the government that they
would not become disenfranchised, but rather they would embed the idea of women being an
important pillar in Tehranian public life and culture. By looking at how Tehranian women navigated
the physical public space in Tehran, one could see how they sought to establish themselves in public
life outside of politics:
Although since the revolution Iranian women have experienced much more governmental control on
their appearance... and behavior in public, they have been actively participating in public spaces by re
appropriating the existing places. In fact, the number of traditional women using public spaces has
dramatically increased after the revolution. Young Iranian women have specifically made use of
enclosed, privatized spaces... that are mostly modern in their design and the activities offered.

Puritan Beliefs
Puritan view of Religion
God directed all the events by the exercise of his will and aimed at directing all these events to an
intelligent end.
Puritans placed emphasis on the righteousness and sovereignty of God.
Human beings were sinners who were not able to attain salvation and be pure in the eyes of God.
Puritans believed in predestination and that all human beings were to conform to divine law.
The Puritan role in society was to be the people of God and create another form of Jerusalem.
An individual should have an intimate relationship with God in order to redeem themselves from
harmful sin.
Puritans should become holy and set the example for those who remained in England to change their
sinful habits.
Puritans needed to associate themselves with the predestined elect (Puritans who were guaranteed
their way to heaven) to become an official member of the church.
Strictly avoided witchcraft related practices, as it went against God s expectations.
Believed in the Devil and his possession of members in society who did not withhold Puritan religious

My Observation At The Landlord And Tenant Supervisor
Introduction:
This report is based on my observation at the Landlord and Tenant Board which is located 3 Robert
Speck Parkway Suite 520 Mississauga, Ontario L47 2G5 on Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 and
Wednesday, January 27th, 2016. Throughout the day at the Landlord and Tenant Board we had
observed many different cases.
In terms of location, the office building was in close juxtaposition to a public bus stop that had a route
that lead directly from Brampton. The bus schedule conveniently operated every 9 minutes. There
were two Brampton busses that lead into the location, the 502 and the 103. The bus was convenient
and reliable however if you are going everyday it will become very costly. If you are a tenant with a
car it is simple to drive from Brampton to Mississauga. The parking is conveniently in front of the
building, but there is a cost for parking; for the whole day $7.00, for an hour $5.25, for 40 minutes
$3.50 and for 20 minutes $1.75. As for the parking, it is convenient to have your own source of
transportation nonetheless it is quite costly.
When you walk into the building there is a front desk with a security guard able to direct you to the
floor you need to go to. The Landlord and Tenant Board is located on the 5th floor, the Board Office
has five separate cubicles with secretaries able to help you with various questions. The Board Office is

severity and frequency of their attacks. After her year as a Central High student was over and she was
able to reflect upon her experiences, Melba came to the conclusion that the adults that watched the
white children torment and abuse she and her friends were simply afraid. They were afraid of change.
They were afraid that the social structure that placed them above blacks was going to crumble, leaving
them at the mercy of people who they ve kept down for so long. Most of all, Melba learned they were

marry and make families with their children. The two individuals who did the most to help Melba
survive while she was inside Central High School were Danny and Link. Danny served as Melba s

Critical Interpretation On Dante s Divine Comedy
Within the last century or so, much of the critical interpretation on Dante s Divine Comedy has been
part of what is sometimes called symbolic literature. Symbolistic literature usually contains
superimposed ideas conceive by the writer s imagination, which is based on a collection of religious
and culturally opinionated ideas that the poet used to fashion the story but does not literally invent.
The poet s view of the world is skewed by the time in which they live, the way they were brought up,
and in part by cultural idealisms. Because of this, interpretation of Dante s book is restricted to a select
group of critics and interpreters. Interpretation of symbolic literature aims to reveal the true meaning
behind the text, which is usually extremely difficult to translate as we can only guess what the author
really indented to mean. This difficulty of translation is compounded by the fact that the Devine
Comedy has been translated from Italian to English, Italian being a rather out of the way language
when compared to English. This all being said, it is almost impossible to derive exact interpretation of
what Dante meant and why he may have put characters where he put them. Suicide has and always
will be a very controversial issue in the terms of defining it as a sin. It is a very tender subject that can
spark fierce debates. As the author of the Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri takes a bold stance on the
issue of suicide. He believes the act of committing suicide is a mortal

America has been the leader in the television industry since the beginning. Being the home to massive
production companies such as HBO, Showtime and AMC, they have made innumerable successful
series for decades. France on the other hand is notorious for it s lucrative film industry, possibly being
the place where the art of cinema began. Surprisingly, the small screen was not prioritized in France
and so the technological advances in television did not develop as fast as in the United States. It is
only in the past ten years that the french television industry has created higher budgeted series that
have succeeded in the international market. Les Revenants (The Returned) is a supernatural drama
series that debuted in France in 2012, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Setting the theme for the rest of the series: returning from the dead. The first season follows several
characters that have come back years after they died, looking for their families and realizing that
everyone has moved on since their passing. It is distressful for both the families and the loved ones of
the Revenants and it is difficult for them to adjust as well. The oddities do not stop there, as a girl
named Lucy is stabbed to death nearby the local pub by a man who is the brother of the pub s
manager. The brother, another Revenant, has some sort of condition that lead him to murder several
people. Throughout the first season, there is b roll footage of the massive manmade dam and the lake
that it contains. The top of a church tower peaks out of the lake implying that there is an old town
lying beneath the waters surface. The first season ends with all of the Revenants and their loved ones
gathering at the local community centre trying to figure out what they should do. A group of other
Revenants lead by Lucy, come and demand that the Revenants, including Camille, must leave with

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Existentialism
Introduction
There are many philosophies that people use in their lives. Some of the ways of thinking are linked to
some prominent people. There is idealism, naturalism, experimentalism, and existentialism among
others. This essay explores existentialism, which has been postulated by Sartre among others. The
other proponents of existentialism include Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, martin Buber, Martin Heidegger
and Martin Buber. The weakness and strengths of existentialism are going to be discussed in this
essay. The main facets of existentialism that are going to be discussed include the following:
authenticity, existence precedes essence, being and nothingness, being in itself, being for itself and
man being condemned to be free. The basic issues discussed by existentialists also include; anxiety,
death, alienation, despair, forlornness, anguish, quietism and abandonment among other aspects that
distinguish existentialism from other philosophies.
Existentialism focuses on the subjective views and experiences on individuals as the sources of truth
and reality for them. Existentialism has its base on how each individual person interprets the world
around him/her. The individual has the freedom to do what he/she wants to do as long as such a person
is liable for the consequences of his/hers. As a result, the individuals dictate his truth, his reality or
what he believes is good or bad. This is against the other philosophies that relate what is good on laws
and rules, norms and mores

Violence on Children s Television Essay
Violence on Children s Television
Are today s children being exposed to too much violence via television? I think so. From the teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles, to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, kids are always being exposed to the
rock em sock em heroes of T.V., or the brainless violence of Beavis and Butthead. When we live in a
country where our children watch an average of three to four hours of television daily {quote}, That is
a large number of punches, kicks, and many other violent acts that our children are soaking up every
day. Is that really what we want for the children of our country? Hundreds of studies of the effects of
TV violence on children and teenagers have found that children may become immune to the horror of

If that wasn t enough, Leonard Eron, Ph.D., and his associates at the University of Illinois, performed
both laboratory, and field studies which showed that children who watched many hours of violent TV
when they were young, showed a higher level of aggressive behavior when they became teenagers,
and when they grew to be 30, the ones who watched a lot of TV when they were young, were more
likely to be arrested and prosecuted for criminal acts.
The research seems to definitely support the argument that children s television is too violent. This
being so, many parents may ask What can I do? Scientists who believe that children learn aggressive
behavior from TV also point out that parents have the power over what their children watch. Because
of this, many scientists recommend a number of things that parents can do.
Reduce the amount of hours of TV that your children watch, watch at least one episode of the shows
your children watch, and when they see a violent act on the show that their children are watching,
discuss it with your child and tell them that this kind of behavior is not good and not the way to solve
problems.
Some other ways to answer the What can I do question is to Ban any shows that you think are too
offensive for your children to be watching, and Encourage your children to watch shows that

Sherman Alexie, Louise Erdrich, And Jim Jarmusch
Sherman Alexie, Louise Erdrich, and Jim Jarmusch embody the Native Americans revolution for
education in their work through exposing three of white society s most prominent methods of
attacking Native cultures: forced assimilation, the destruction of cultural identity, and cultural
appropriation. White society forces the assimilation of Native peoples in an attempt to strip them of
their cultural identity and individualism, which white people see as savagery. Natives who once had a
rich and interesting system of religious beliefs were introduced to Christianity during colonization and
forced to accept the teachings of the church. Alexie creates a powerful symbol of forced assimilation

Not to be left out, The Economist published an article about alcoholism affecting Native Americans
titled The Wounds of Whiteclay An Alcoholism Epidemic Among the Lakota Sioux . The article
claims that shops have been making immoral profits from the misery of vulnerable residents of the
reservation (Economist). Substance abuse is one of many reasons that many Natives do not go to
college or receive higher education, as seen when Alexie writes So what was I doing in racist Reardan,
where more than half of every graduating class went to college? Nobody in my family had ever gone
near a college (Alexie, Forney, 56). All of these literary works show that alcoholism, along with other
disadvantages brought to America by Europeans, hinders the success and the future of Natives. After
Non Native people rob Native Americans of their cultures, if not their lives, they romanticize and steal
the culture that they perverted. Every Halloween, one is apt to see a handful of young women

they choose to be single, just came out of an emotional relationship and went through a trying
breakup, or that they find it difficult to meet the perfect partner. Being Single by Choice People
regularly choose to be alone and there is nothing wrong with that. Some people perform better in life
with a partner alongside them, but you find just as many who prefer the opposite scenario. Choosing
to be alone is perfectly normal and people make this particular choice for the following reasons: They
are happiest when alone and totally love their own life They find being single to be a simpler and
easier life They enjoy doing all sorts of everyday things and activities unaccompanied They have
never been very social and are introverted around others Depressed people find that being alone
alleviates the depression Being alone give them chance to reflect on their own situation, life, and

Effects Of The Sakoku Policy On Japan
Sakoku was the policy introduced to Japan in medieval times. Sakoku translates to a country in chains
or the lock up of a country . This policy proclaimed that no foreigner or Japanese could enter or leave
the country, without the threat of death. The Tokugawa Shogunate, under Tokugawa Iemitsu, created
this policy as well as an array of other edicts and policies to prevent foreigners and Japanese alike
from entering or leaving Japan. These were established and put into action in 1633 1639 and remained
in effect until 1853 when Matthew Perry and the Americans forced the Japanese rulers to remove these
laws. However, these laws did not entirely isolate Japan, as some trade was allowed just under tight
control. The Shoguns of medieval Japan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there were some unforeseen adverse effects. These effects have influenced and affected
Japan as a nation and culture, enriching the culture and lifestyle that we associate with Japan today.
Japan s isolation allowed them to develop their culture without the influence of other countries or
religions. The economy of Japan also flourished during the Sakoku period. The long period of stability
and peace was central to the economic boom. Moreover, the Japanese culture became richer because
of the sakoku. Without foreign influence, they further developed their own unique culture. For
example, traditional rituals and customs. The Japanese politics were also affected by the sakoku; the
emperor continued to appoint the shoguns to keep his subjects in and foreigners out. These foreign
traders and Christians were not welcomed by authorities. This was because they were afraid they
would cause an uprise in the feudal system. On the other hand, this isolation had a negative effect
because overtaxing and the rice payment continued. Sakoku also adversely affected the environment;
the most noticeable impact was widespread deforestation. Without the ability to import wood, there
was not enough for every person in the country. With an ever growing need for natural products such

responsiveness and supply chain cost is regarded as substitution. The synergy factor is highlighted
through identification of the different scope of supply chain responsiveness. The conclusions derived
from this analysis are as follows: a. The identification and exploitation of synergy has helped supply

Exceptions Under The Exclusionary Rule
In criminal justice the exclusionary rule prohibits the use of illegally seized evidence or evidence that
violates the offenders rights under the fourth, fifth, or sixth amendment. There are three exceptions
under the exclusionary rule, fruit of the poisoned tree , inevitable discovery exception, and the good
faith exception. These three exceptions each allow evidence that can be considered illegally obtained
to be admissible in a court of law, given it fits in certain constraints.
Fruit of the poisoned tree is a term for any verbal or physical evidence obtained by using illegally
obtained evidence. The basis of the fruit of the poisoned tree concept is that like a poisoned tree would
bear poisonous fruit, evidence that is obtained because of illegally obtained evidence is also therefore
illegally obtained. This concept could be considered tier one under the exclusionary rule. The
exclusionary rule and its counterparts were first applied in courts in 1914. The idea of the exclusionary
rule is to maintain proper police procedure. If police officers present legally obtained evidence, they
have a higher chance of getting the offender convicted. This works as a rewards system. ... Show more

actions did they take to make sure they had a good life for themselves and their families? Were their

America Was Founded On Christian Values Analysis
Are American Values Reflective of Christian Values?
Being a Christian I am very curious and worried about the state that America is in right now. There are

Many of these senseless, violent acts lead to the deaths of innocent people. The state that America is in

religion is important has dropped 10% (Hughes). The statistics from 2012 show that America has

secular America has gotten with all fifty states recognizing marriage between the same sex is

civic involvement, from the point of view Thoreau gives us, dimin ishes the independent self and
therefore diminishes the ability to think for oneself, which is necessary for the use of the full range of

the concept that people who work for society, only think based on political conscience. In the passage,
it shares Others, as most legislators, politicians, lawyers, ministers, and office holders, serve the state

In a third world country, jobs are not easy to come by; especially jobs that pay enough to sustain a

in Dhaka, a district in central Bangladesh, a sweatshop collapsed on the workers inside, killing a

People Face Trade Courses Essay
People Face Trade Offs
In this assignment, it is evident that I have only one semester left to graduate and I have enough
finances to do a maximum of four courses. Three of the courses are required courses and the last
course slot is elective. I will have to narrow down my choices to three electives and based on two
economic decision making principles, I will provide and support my choice.
To begin with, in the scenario, I have three different courses and I have to select one. The three
courses include business management, mathematics, and economics. These courses provide and
include different benefits and disadvantages and my choice should predict high benefits and
incentives. There are various jobs related to mathematics such as high school math teacher, market
research analysis, and inventory control specialist. Pursuing mathematics will also improve my
arithmetic skills. However, mathematics is very complex and will require a lot of time.
On the other hand, economics degree course provides a range of advantages as well as disadvantages.
For example, after pursuing the economic course, I will work either as an accountant or as financial
analysts as well as investment analysts and statistician. Economics course will provide me with the
opportunity to learn new investment skills, capital management and ability to analyze economic trends
and patterns. Despite this, economics is a very complex and demanding course. In addition, economics

  • 2. The Impact Of Old-Time Radio Era On American Culture There have been many different aspects that have come out of the old time radio era that have impacted our culture today. It was not just the news that people learned about it was also entertainment. Usually, in a time when there was nothing to be happy about. In order for us to understand the difference that these people made in the lives of others. It needs to be understood why they were created and where they came from. Also, it was not just about the actors, it was the story lines and the dramas that helped people escape and either enjoy a good thriller or comedy show. A radio drama is a dramatized performance, broadcasted on the radio or it was published on audio media for instance a tape or CD. These tapes became very popular during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While this is usually not necessarily a lousy concept, the fiasco on October 31st, 1938 between 8 and 9 PM said a different story. The WABC radio broadcast network decided to air an episode of, The Mercury Theatre on the Air . Directed by Orson Welles the group performed their adaption of, The war of the Worlds , written by Howard Koch s. The actors in the group did such a marvelous job that people listening in actually believed that they were listening to a live news report of a sure enough alien invasion. This broadcast caused such a mass panic that now when you are watching or listening to mockumentary or fake broadcast there is always a disclaimer. According to an article run in the, Daily News titled, Fake Radio war Stirs Terror Through U.S., in 1938. It stated that, Thousands flee. Without waiting for further details, thousands of listeners rushed from their homes in New York and New Jersey, many with towels across their faces to protect themselves from gas which the invader was supposed to be spewing forth. Simultaneously, thousands more in states that stretched west to California and south to the Gulf of Mexico rushed to their telephones to inquire of newspapers, the police, switchboard operators, and electric companies what they should do to protect themselves. • 3. Corporate Capacity And Authority Corporate capacity and authority were essential legal concepts which contained rules for when and how a company ought to be legally recognised as having validly acted and entered into a binding contract with third parties. Broadly speaking, the rules which applied to corporate capacity were the ultra vires doctrine and the doctrine of constructive notice. In regard to the concept of corporate authority, both the ultra vires doctrine and the doctrine of constructive notice also applied however their application was curtailed by the Turquand rule. The Turquand rule therefore only applied when the authority of directors was in question. A definitional overview of the concepts of corporate capacity and authority will be provided below, along with brief description of the doctrine of constructive notice and the Turquand rule. The thesis deals with the above concepts and discusses how the Companies Act 71 of 2008 (the Act) modified the law, particularly, by extending the legal capacity of a company and extinguishing or modifying the above rules which had previously restricted a company s ability ... For a contract to be valid the company must have the requisite legal capacity to enter into the contract and the directors or officers representing the company must have the authority to act on its behalf. Within company law, capacity and authority are interrelated principles however it is important to note that each is an entirely different and separate legal concept from the other. The Adventure Of A Speckled Band By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle In the mysterious and intriguing story, The Adventure of a Speckled Band, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a clever detective by the name of Sherlock Holmes and his loyal assistant Dr. Watson quickly solved a forever evolving case. In a small town in April, 1883, a woman by the name of Helen Stoner fears for her life with her impending wedding. She questions the mysterious and sudden death of her sister Julia. Helen Stoner approached Sherlock Holmes, hoping that he would assist her in this state of panic. Sherlock Holmes, intrigued by the severity of the case, listened intently on the information Helen provided. Helen s stepfather, Dr. Grimesby Roylott, was known as a violent man who is unable to control his temper. Dr. Roylott, a wealthy man, lived on a large plot known as Stoke Moran, where Helen lived as well. Stoke Moran is the place of death for Helen s sister Julia. Helen told Holmes that a low whistle could be heard in the middle of the night, adding that she heard the whistle on the night of Julia s death. Despite this, the court concluded that no individual had killed Julia; although it was believed she died of natural causes. Yet, Sherlock Holmes will not settle for this conclusion and took on the case, planning to further investigate Stoke Moran until Dr. Roylott himself confronts Holmes in his office telling him to mind his own business. Of course, Holmes and Watson disregarded Dr. Roylott s threats, arriving at the crime scene later that same day. As Holmes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. IS, LM model and explanations(in the form of an essay). Essay topic1. Introduction: During the years after World War II, the development of the IS LM model took several directions. Probably, the most prominent ideas on that theory were expressed in the work of John Hicks called Mr. Keynes and the Classics . The model expressed in the article was largely based on the works of John Maynard Keynes and became a widely accepted as the alternative framework to standard Keynesian analysis. The IS LM model is a way of modelling equilibrium in the economy by looking at equilibrium in the goods and services markets (the IS curve) and equilibrium in the money markets (LM curve). Therefore, the amount of income from Y`1 to Y1 will be anattainable because of outcrowding of the private sector by the public sector investment (shaded area). The degree of crowding out depends on severeal factors. One of them is the extent of multiplier effect. Multiplier effect occurs when increase in investment or any other autonomous expenditure leads to even greater increase in income. For example, it may become widely believed that the MPC (Monetary Policy Committee) is going to reduce the rate of interest. In that case, number of leackages in the economy in the form of savings is likely to decline and consumption to increase. This will result in the larger propensity to consume for every marginal unit of income. Increase in consumption should lead to increase in investment and more flatter IS curve (see figure 3), which will mean greater degree of crowding out. Figure 3. r LM r` r IS` IS 0

Theme Of All My Sons By Joe Keller There is nothing ruthless about Joe, no hint of the robber baron in his make up , his ambitions are small a comfortable home for his family, a successful business to pass on to his sons, but he is not completely fastidious in achieving his goals. Joe Keller is the most important character in the play, All My Sons. Miller who wrote All My Sons with human understanding but moral sinew as well as dramaturgy summarised his theme, John Gossner says as, the responsibility of man to society or the responsibility to the world and outside his home as well as in his own home . Joe Keller is a social, amiable man with a strong sense of humour. Indeed, Joe Keller strikes us as an eminently social man with an amiable nature. When, soon afterwards, ... Thus, the exposure of his guilt in the supply of defective cylinder heads, and of the fact of his being responsible for the suicide committed by Larry and the death of 21 young pilots whom he comes to acknowledge as his own sons, pains Joe very much. Joe Keller is a moving character whose place in All My Sons is quite important. Chris Keller, son of Joe Keller, becomes a prototype of a person having moral values of living life. While his father regards the family as the biggest or most important thing in life, he puts the society or humanity as a whole on a higher plane than the individual or the family. Females who have been exposed to other female pheromones for certain durations of time whether it is months or years tend to have experienced relatively insync menstruated cycles after few months. This study has confirmed a long disputed theory that females no matter what race or relation menstruate at coinciding times. Over the last couple of decades pheromones have been documented in over hundreds if not thousands of types of animals and insects. Yet, in most cases particularly mammals there is an organ specialized in detection located in the inner parts of the nose or inside the oral cavity. This organ is sometimes called the vomeronasal organ or when used around scientists the VNO organ. There has been an abundance of evidence that say that human pheromones really do exist. For example a newborn would preferably want a piece of clothing worn by its parents or more so the mother because the pheromones of the mother is what the baby has known since the beginning of its life. • 11. Vj Junction 1.) It can be assured that the heavy chain will create a VDJ junction but not a VJ junction because of the 12/23 rule. A gene segment flanked by an RSS with a 12 base pair spacer typically can only be joined to one flanked by a 23 base pair spacer RSS. So, for the heavy chain, a D segment can be joined to a J gene segment and a V gene segment to D gene segment but the V gene segment can not be directly joined to the J gene segment. Both the V and J gene segments are flanked by a 23 base pair spacer and the D segments have 12 base pair spacers on both sides. The light chain VJ junction will always be derived from a single type of light chain and not the result of κ or λ hybridization because the κ and λ are two separate loci that are located on two different chromosomes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The κ loci is located on human chromosome 2, the cluster of V gene segments is followed by a cluster of J gene segments and then a single C gene. The light chain VJ segment cannot be a product of κ or λ hybridization because in order for that to occur, they would have to be located on the same chromosome (Murphy 2012). Production of a complete antigen receptor includes two series of gene segment rearrangements, one for each receptor chain locus. Each of these rearrangements continues until a complete protein is made and the cell moves on to the next stage in development. The most important factor is the V regions that are encoded by separate gene segments (V, D and J segments), which are brought together by somatic recombination to create a complete V region exon. The V region of an immunoglobulin heavy or light chain is encoded by multiple gene segments. For the light chain, the V domain is made up of 2 gene segments, the V gene segment and the J gene segment. Old Spice, Become A Man Courtney Van Houweling Paula Fender 1st Year Comp November 10th, 2016 Old Spice, Become a Man Most of us have probably seen the Old Spice commercials with the confident and fast talking Isaiah Mustafa, AKA The Old Spice Man. These commercials first began in early 2010 and have since become a whole series of some of the most popular commercials on television and the internet. But what is it about these ads that make them so appealing? To answer this question, this paper will focus on the commercial that started it all: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like. Although this ad does surprisingly little to realistically describe the product it is advertising, its clever and difficult to notice of all three first parts of appeal convinced many people to switch to Old Spice, and, at the same time helped Old Spice reach a close connection with its target audience, this way embedding itself into our popular culture. Before getting into any analysis, I would like to give brief summary of how the ad goes forward. Mustafa, in a bathroom wearing nothing but a towel, starts a speech which describes how anything is possible when a man uses Old Spice body wash. Amir Ebrahimi, a scholar on women s physical role in the public in the Middle East supports this by saying This frequent presence in the different public spaces gave women a new consciousness about themselves and their individual and citizen rights in the society. • 21. Critical Interpretation On Dante s Divine Comedy Within the last century or so, much of the critical interpretation on Dante s Divine Comedy has been part of what is sometimes called symbolic literature. Symbolistic literature usually contains superimposed ideas conceive by the writer s imagination, which is based on a collection of religious and culturally opinionated ideas that the poet used to fashion the story but does not literally invent. The poet s view of the world is skewed by the time in which they live, the way they were brought up, and in part by cultural idealisms. Because of this, interpretation of Dante s book is restricted to a select group of critics and interpreters. Interpretation of symbolic literature aims to reveal the true meaning behind the text, which is usually extremely difficult to translate as we can only guess what the author really indented to mean. This difficulty of translation is compounded by the fact that the Devine Comedy has been translated from Italian to English, Italian being a rather out of the way language when compared to English. This all being said, it is almost impossible to derive exact interpretation of what Dante meant and why he may have put characters where he put them. Suicide has and always will be a very controversial issue in the terms of defining it as a sin. It is a very tender subject that can spark fierce debates.
