Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) can be identified as the condition that demonstrates persistent,
high levels of anxiety and excessive worry about one s daily life. These anxious feelings tend to reveal
physical symptoms that can interfere with the patient s optimal functioning since they are constantly
feeling restless or tense. According to the DSM 5, in order to properly diagnosis a patient with GAD,
the patient must demonstrate the symptoms majority of days for at least six months and experience
significant distress or impairment in life activities. GAD is developed during one s childhood and
adolescent year, gradually becoming more apparent as they mature. In the United States, GAD affects
approximately 1.2 percent to 2.9 percent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A common theme found in all three disorders is the development of negative cognition, emotions, and
schemas. Negative schemas are a key role in GAD because it focuses on how an individual interprets
and organizes the world. An individual s cognitive interpretation provides an explanation why anxiety
is evoked. In PTSD, a person s negative emotions and dysfunctional thoughts about themselves or
their environment are more likely to have PTSD. Individuals diagnosis with MDD tends to have
negative thoughts due to their interpretation about themselves and their surrounding which can result
in the feeling of worthlessness. An individual s cognition interpretations affect their overall emotion.
Another common theme that GAD, PTSD, and MDD share is rumination. All these three disorders use
rumination to cope with stressful situations. Although the disorders shared similarities, there are
several differences in between them. In GAD, individuals tend to have a lower threshold for
uncertainty and worry about worrying. These individuals have a misguided belief that worry is an
effective method to face their problem or prevent any negative consequences from occurring. On the
other hand, the severity of trauma and interpersonal trauma contribute to the psychological factors that
affect PTSD. Individuals may overestimate the probability of the trauma occurring therefore, they
react more intensely to it. In MDD, inadequate/ insufficient reinforcers and learned helplessness/
attributional styles distress an individual. People with MDD may receive insufficient social
reinforcement which then causes them to withdraw from any social

Tale Of Two Cities Metaphors
The literature that came out of the French Revolution often shares common themes of death, rebirth,
and destruction. Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens is much the same way. Throughout the novel,
Dickens clearly supports the revolution but also depicts the brutality of the revolutionaries. Dickens
uses powerful metaphors of a sea to symbolize the revolutionaries destroying old France and the
belittling name of Jacques to depict the narcissistic views of the French aristocracy to show his
support for the revolution.
Although Dickens clearly supports the revolutionaries cause, through metaphors of water, he
highlights the sometimes animalistic nature of the revolution. In Book one, [T]he sea did what it liked
and what it liked was destruction. Dickens acknowledges the inevitable nature of the revolution by
comparing the sea to the French mob. And the mob, much like a sea, ... Show more content on

In Book two, Dickens alludes to the storming of the Bastille prison and once again describes the mob
as a sea and the Bastille, the beach being attacked by the storm. With a roar, that sounded as if all the
breath in France had been shaped into a detested word, the living sea rose, wave upon wave, depth
upon depth, and overflowed the city. Again Dickens varies his opinion of the revolutions within a
single line. He starts the metaphor depicting a unified France, at on the part of the revolutionaries
versus nobility. By this point, all of France was involved with or affected by the revolution. In the
second part of the quote particular the very end, the word choice of overflowed gives an image of
excess violence. Dickens purposely used a word with negative connotations to encourage readers to
examines the brutality of the French revolution. In Book three, DIckens uses similar word choice
describing the swelling and overflowing of the crowd. Traditionally, swelling occurs when an
overabundance of something accumulates. When one hurts themselves swelling occurs which leads to

Habitat AA Case Study
A.) In fig 1A, the environmental selection, shows species in pool, where different habitat types
existed. The species composition is determined by the environmental selection. Similar habitats select
for similar species to occupy its environment. In 1A, habitats A and A have the same invasion of
species which are species 1, 2, 3, and 4. The fundamental niche is where species could live and
reproduce itself in the whole range of habitats. Diverse types of species could occupy similar habitat.

When we consider the microbiome in our gut as invasive species, like any other invasive species we

conditions such as temperature, pH, and aerobic/anaerobic will determine if a species occupy that

they are able to cause disease are the same as those required for any other species that invades and

Sleeping Schedule Analysis
I do not have a regular weekly schedule. I do very little planning out when I will work on assignments
and when I will study ahead of time. Other than my class and work schedule, my commitment to
studying, going to the gym, sleeping, socializing at specified times throughout the day varies on a
weekly basis based on my work load and what is happening on and around campus. However, every
Friday I take time to figure out all the assignments I have due and activities that I have planned the
coming week. This list is prioritized and I can use it to determine when I am going to have to do the
most work. This gives me the ability to work ahead if I desire or know that I can put off doing an

Most of the time allotted to doing homework is during my five hour morning gap between classes.
Though I am allocating a great deal of time to my school work, it is a good deal less than the
recommended class to study hours ratio. It is recommended that students dedicate two hours of work
outside of class for every hour in class. Because I am physically in a class twenty four and a half hours
a week, I should be spending forty nine hours outside of class studying or doing homework. In order
to do this I would, taking into account the amount of time spent doing necessary things such as
sleeping and eating, need to limit myself to about three hours of free time a day. While this may
initially sound like a good deal of time. This is based of a week s schedule where I did not go to the
gym or workout at all. This will decrease the amount of free time that I have even further. This
schedule also did not take into account time spent getting ready for class and whenever I left my room,
this severely decreases the amount of free time I would have available. While it is entirely feasible to
increase the number of hours I commit to my studies, I am unwilling to drastically diminish the
amount of time I spend with my friends, especially in the evenings when I am tired from having class
and working all day. However, I should still work to increase the amount of time I

What Is Little Albert Unethical
The story of Little Albert starts with a case study done by Dr. John B. Watson. When the study began
little Albert did not show any sign of fear for any animals including the little white rat used in the
experiment. It seems that Dr. Watson was determined to prove that everything that is feared became a
fear by installation. He started the experiment with a constant, that being introducing the child to
different animals and recording the reaction that is given. Dr. Watson then went on to prove his theory.
When he brought the white rat back to Little Albert he set of a loud metal banging sound that upset
Little Albert every time he reached for the rat. Soon Little Albert was afraid of the rat because he
equated the rat to the loud noise that scared him. Not only was albert afraid of the rat he was afraid of
all things that had fur. The Dr. even put on a white furry mask and saw that albert was then afraid of
that as well. This study has no control variable. Little Albert was afraid basically because he was made
to be afraid of the objects.
Little Albert Ethically The experiment for Little Albert in my opinion was unethical because he forced
the child to be afraid of the animals. In addition to the white rat he was afraid of a dark colored dog, a

This study is trying to show that fears don t just happen there is always a reason why you fear
something. If the root of the fear can be evaluated, then the actual fear will be easier to overcome.
Under the right circumstances, the study would be very useful. Using a nine month old baby would be
very unethically because that is causing emotional harm to the child and when doing experiments, the
researcher would have to make sure that the subjects are one voluntarily in the experiment and no
harm will come to them. By purposefully scaring the child Dr. Watson is, in fact, endangering the
subject not physically but

Senior Project Papers
Senior project paper
I chose my Senior Project on Animation. Animation for those who don t know is making drawings
come to life in film and screen. As an Animator, I will use computers, pencils and paper among other
beings, to create movies and TV shows .
I have chosen animation as my career because I have always loved cartoons and films such as Disney,
Pixar and Dreamworks. Some of my favorite films are Disney s The Lion King , Pixar s Toy Story and
DreamWorks Sherk . In my mind animation is more of an artform than a career
The skills you would need for this career are Time management, Artistic knowledge, and Artistic skill

The health benefits of this career are good pay, long hours, and plenty of opportunities to work as well
as a flexible work schedule. Another benefit of being an animator is being able to work at home, for
example, if you work at home, you will have a sucnifetley lower chance of getting sick than if you
were, for instance, in an office setting the percentage of sick days will decrease
For my interviews I have asked 2 of the best of animation teachers in western P.A., ( in my opinion )
John Kelly and Jared Taylor ( from the Toonsuim and Edinboro University respectively). According to
both Kelly And Taylor you need about 3 to 4 years of schooling in either visual arts or animation.
Kelly was an animator for Disney and now is a teacher of the subject. As stated in a previous
paragraph the pay is around 30 to $63,000 in total. My second question I asked the two gentlemen, is
if there is any math involved in the job, the answer is no. I asked this question because having Spina
Bifida, my math skills are subpar to the rest of my peers .There may not be any math involved in my
job, but there is a timing which I l need to improve

Ulysses S. Grant as the greatest Northern commander in the American Civil War, Gen. William

Serious mistakes had been made at the battle of Shiloh, and the commander, Grant, had to take a lot of
criticism. Grant wanted to withdraw from the army, but Sherman persuaded him to stay. In the
Vicksburg campaign Sherman gave valuable aid to Grant. At its successful conclusion he generously
gave all the credit to his superior officer. When Grant, as a result of this campaign, was made
commander of the armies of the United States, Sherman was appointed to fill Grant s position as
commander in the West. It was in this position that he carried on the campaign on which his fame
rests. On May 6, 1864, he left Chattanooga, Tenn., for Atlanta, Ga. It took him four months to cover
the 135 miles (215 kilometers) between the two places, for in this campaign he met a person worthy of
his steel in Gen. Joseph E. Johnston, the Confederate commander. Atlanta was reached on September
2. After clearing the city of its civil population and resting his men, Sherman started on his famous
march of 400 miles (645 kilometers) quot;from Atlanta to the sea. quot; For 32 days no news of him
reached the North. He had cut himself off from his base of supplies, and his men lived on what they
could get from the country through which they passed. They covered a path 60 miles (95 kilometers)

the enemy was ruthlessly destroyed. In view of this

The Importance Of Recess In Schools
Across America school districts continue negotiating as to whether or not recess is an essential part of
a child s school day. Recently there has been pressure to increase test scores in the United States.
Consequently, recess is being cut or reduced in order to provide children with additional instructional
time, but are breaks necessary for active learning? Recess is also a liability issue for schools since the
environment is more relaxed and more exposed to the outside world. Ever since we can remember
recess has been a vital part of the school day, but should that change? Will cutting recess improve
children s test scores?
This all started approximately five to ten years ago when nearly half of the schools in the United
States began to lessen recess time or even cut it entirely (Dills 890). Some schools are not even
building playgrounds anymore (Schachter 37). This occurred because of the push to increase test
scores and the incentives that go along with it. The higher the test scores, the more funding schools
receive. Therefore, schools are making sacrifices and doing the best that they can in order to receive as
much funding possible. A school cannot be run properly without sufficient support so cutting recess if
it in fact improves test scores is justifiable. As Anthony Pellegrini wrote in his book, to adults recess is
just playtime and has no actual value, but for kid s recess is important (181). This remains the reason
numerous districts are questioning

Miseducation Of Stereotyping
There are serval ways that you as an educator may help to defuse stereotyping. This must begin with
self awareness. This is important because children learn best by observing those in their surroundings.
If adults can openly talk with children about diversity and why it s good and how prejudice can be
harmful children are provided with awareness. Children ask all kinds of questions and in doing so
learn from them. If you avoid a question about someone s race gender, disability and sexuality,
children will notice. They could think that the questions are inappropriate or unimportant and will
there for make up their own conclusions which may be incorrect and not fair. This is why as adults we
need to learn our self how to honestly and openly communicate

Athenian Democracy and Divination Essay
Athenian Democracy and Divination
Divination was a prevalent feature in Archaic Greece, as it provided objective advice, to assist people
in making appropriate decisions in problematic predicaments. In certain situations its ambiguity
allowed decisions to be postponed, or blame to be assigned to others. Divination was also used to
explain matters that seemed unexplainable, such as crop failure or drought. This is illustrated in the
Homeric epics, which depicts numerous oracle interpreters, such as Calchas, consulting oracles on
domestic, as well as, military decisions. Divination was a guiding authority in ancient society.
However, during the fifth and fourth century BC, the democratic ... Show more content on

Furthermore, when the Athenians suggest to the Melians that they should become allies with them,
against the Spartans, the Melians state:

In contrast, the Athenians dismiss the protection of the gods, and state:
This kind of attitude is not going to be of much help to you in your absurd conquest for safety at the
moment .[4]
Thucydides portrays the Athenians in an arrogant light, which suggests that they will get their
comeuppance for such sacrilegious opinions. Furthermore, Thucydides also highlights the scientific
approach that the Athenians have towards their domination of the Peloponnese, suggesting that it is
the law of nature , that they should conquer as much as they can. The rise of freethinking, that the
democracy had established, had lead to the neglect of the gods. In comparison, Xerxes, in his conquest
to dominate Greece, complies with a dream that is sent from the gods, which indicates to him and
Artabanus that he should continue with the Persian wars.[5] Herodotus, writing in the early fifth
century, highlights the importance of following divination, whereas, Thucydides, writing in the later
fifth century, focuses on decisions made by the people.

Supreme City Chapter Summaries
Mona Moslem Supreme City Book Review
Before getting into the background of what makes New York City the Supreme city it is considered
today, it is imperative for all to understand the hardships faced by those who attempted to make a
difference. Individuals ventured through the sacred gates with only promise of wealth and happiness
to feed the ambition in their souls. Soon thereafter, Tammany was formed, to provide protection and
bind the people of each borough. Being part of Tammany created a unified and compact community,
which was what strengthened each neighborhood. Jimmy Walker, the Mayor of New York City

Walker tried to be one with his community, subsequently admitting that his administration would be
Tammany through and through . Walker was able to launch campaigns that appealed to every social
group he governed, which further strengthened his bond with the citizens of New York City. He spoke
for the people, and created legislatures and supported ideas based on what he felt the people would
enjoy most, never failing to opt for the most extravagant alternative. For example, Walker was against
prohibition. In fact, he wanted it to be repealed the year it went into office. The prohibition era was
referred to as the great impossibility . Miller further explains that, Many New Yorkers sided with
Jimmy Walker, who saw Prohibition as a tyrannical abridgement of personal freedom. Walker had said
this repeatedly and forcefully, on the floor of the New York Senate... (71). Protecting the public s
opinion is the main reason for Walker s popularity, and ultimately how he gained the respect of his
people. Upon asking a person about Jimmy Walker, many recall his grandeur, lavish lifestyle and all
that he did for the city, rather than the political corruption. In fact, before his political hearing, Walker
received continued support from his fellow citizens who appreciated all he has done for

Affirmative Action Definition
Affirmative action was first created in 1961 and was signed by President John F. Kennedy, with intent
to improve the lives of those who tend to suffer from discrimination. Court rulings have upheld

opportunities and school admission processes.
Affirmative action policies have continued to be supported in court rulings. The final rulings of

The Advantages of Conscription
It has long been a controversial topic of debate in the United States, whether or not our young men
and women should be required to serve in the armed forces. There is proof that compulsory military
service would be in our nations best interest. It has historically shown to improve military
preparedness, and also has evenly balanced the burden of military service. It also helps to instill a
sense of duty into those who serve. From an economic standpoint, there are numerous arguments to be
made in support of conscription, including government savings. Numerous scholars write in favor of
the subject as well. The government has been debating this topic since the draft system was removed
from our country, and many reports written also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If however, a draft was imposed, with these deferments eliminated, then the burden of military service
would fall less on the minorities and the impoverished, but rather on all men of military age.
Professor Charles Moskos, a former draftee, and currently a professor at Northwestern University
makes several good arguments in support of the draft. He points out the large number of volunteers
who fail to fulfill their initial enlistments: A reality often overlooked in the all volunteer force is that
one third of entering members fail to complete their initial enlistments. Contrast this with the one in
10 draftees who did not complete their two year obligation. It s much better to have a soldier serve a
short term honorably than be discharged prematurely for cause .
He raises an excellent point when he says that it would be detrimental to allow our troops to be
dishonorably discharged. Another excellent point brought up by Professor Moskos. He argues that
because for some jobs it takes a higher level of technical skill, that cant possibly be met by short term
service, higher compensation should be offered to those who serve longer. Higher compensation
should be aimed at those whose skills require extended training and job experience. A two track pay
system could be devised to give long term enlistees higher compensation than their drafted
counterparts (many of whom, however, may have

Five Characteristics Of A Civilization
What is a Civilization; Final Essay Civilization. What exactly is a civilization? Well, I know one thing
that we can agree on; A civilization is made up of five characteristics. Those five characteristics
include Complex Institutions, Advanced Cities, Record Keeping, Advanced Technology, and
Specialized workers. Due to those five characteristics, a civilization is a place of safety for a certain
religious or ethnic group of people. Not only is it usually safe because of those five characteristics, it
is also a secure living area with its own form of government. Why do so many of us believe this? Take
a look around. There are many places and were many places that, for the most part, stuck together
with a singular ethnicity or religion. Within the next few paragraphs, I am going to explicate how
certain civilizations, or how civilizations in general, are impacted in growth and development by
geography, how the human rights are defined in certain civilizations, and what the effects of human
interaction over time both positively and negatively affect a civilization. The geography within an area
impacts both the development and growth of a civilization positively and negatively. For example,
there is the Nile, in Egypt. When the Nile s floodwaters were just a few feet lower than normal, the
amount of fresh silt was greatly reduced. Thousands of people starved. (Africa packet, pg. 36) As the

up. If at that time she is still wheezing, he would put her on an oral corticosteroid (Kelleher, Sheryl
MS, CFNP, Class Assignment). This paper will define what asthma and its pathophysiology is, as well
as review the patients prescribed medications of albuterol, salmeterol, and montelukast. Lastly, a
review of corticosteroids and their adverse effects, dosing, and other implications will be discussed.
Asthma can be defined as a chronic pulmonary disease that involves inflammation and
bronchospasms. To fully understand asthma and its attributes, one must understand the
pathophysiology of asthma, including the lower respiratory tract, and the bronchiolar smooth muscle.
Stated simply, the major role of the respiratory system is to bring oxygen into the human body, and
remove carbon dioxide (Adams, Holland, Urban,). This is nonetheless respiration, or the exchange of
gases. Another phenomenon occurring in our respiratory system is ventilation. This is when the air
moves in and out of the lungs.
Bronchiolar smooth muscle is located in the Bronchiole and plays a very important role in the
physiology as well. They either contract or relax. Relaxation of the bronchiole smooth

Great Expectations is a novel written by Charles Dickens. This novel is about a boy named Pip and his
life. He lives with his abusive sister and kind brother in law. The novel is happening in Kent and
London in the early to mid 1800s, and contains some of Dickens most memorable scenes, including
the opening. Great Expectations includes extreme imagery, poverty such as prison chains, and fights to
the death, and has a different ranged characters who have been in popular culture. All of the characters

When he spend more time with Mrs Hamington and learned his life style, he was more clear about
how to act and how to be a gentilmen. Eventhough in his home, his sister and Joe was rude and
uneducated, Pip was not like that when he was socializing through his life. It can be argued that this
situation can be explained by secondary socialization. Secondary socialization refers to the process of
learning what is the appropriate behavior as a member of a smaller group within the larger society.
Basically, it is the behaviors intensified by society. Secondary socialization occurs outside the home. It
is where children and adults learn how to act in a way that is appropriate for the situations they are in
as Pip learned in Mrs. Hamington s house. After he got out of the home, he stil was thinging that it is a
must for a man to be a educated and gentle. His primary socialization which refers to learning acting
appropriate from parents does not affect him that much. Also in this novel we can see that all the
events happen at the Victorian England times. Thats why the relationships between people in the
village is according to classes. The classes are ranging from criminals, Magwitch, to the poor peasants
of the country, Joe and Biddy, to the middle class, Pumblechook, to the very rich, Miss Havisham.

A Career in Sports Courses Essay
I am applying for sports courses as I have an interest in a range of sports and am looking to go into a
career where I can make the most of this interest. Through my years at school I have always taken any
opportunity to participate in any sport open to me, though my chosen sport is now rowing, where I
have competed internationally.
I also used to compete at national level in judo. From my experiences of these sports, and because I
spend so much time training with my team mates we all feel quite close to each other and it
encourages a friendly, competitive atmosphere. I enjoy this as being competitive ultimately leads to
better results and I feel these flows over into my school life as well. The main reason I like rowing are

This meant I was working with children who had a range of abilities, which gave me experience in
how to set up different levels of exercises for one group and also helped me with my time
management and organisation skills.
In my current course I have learned a wide range of sporting related knowledge. I have also been
placed in various environments through work experience which has enabled me to pick up skills I
would not have otherwise. I am currently doing voluntary work experience in a leisure centre which
has enabled me to be in contact with many different people, and this has developed my social skills
beyond what they would have been otherwise.
Additionally I am also studying an Active IQ Level 2 Fitness Instructing course, in this course I learn
even more about how to work with minority groups, such as disabled and older people. This was one
of my main motivations for studying this course, though it also is helping me towards my eventual
goal of being a successful personal trainer.
Whilst at university I hope to gain more knowledge and qualifications which will support me in
progressing into a successful career in the sporting industry. I eventually want to get into personal
training or high level coaching, so that I can give back into the world of sport which has provided me
with so many life changing opportunities and experiences. I also hope to continue

Literary Interpretation In The Storm By Kate Chopin
The Storm by Kate Chopin
The entire setting of the story The Storm by Kate Chopin is an accurate reflection of an adulterous
situation. It employs the symbol The Storm to portray an exact circumstance that acknowledges the
existence of unfaithfulness through adultery. The story took place in the period 1800s and gives a clear
account of an affair that constituted Calixta who was the protective mother to Bibi and the wife to
Bobinot, Alcee, the husband to Clarisse. The relationship among the people above took place at the
prime time when there existed a violent rainstorm. As such, the depiction of the rainstorm does not
give an account of a particular coincidence that occurred behind the whole scene but represents an
external influence through which the proximity of the narration and the affair appeared
simultaneously. The narrative begins with the storm occurrence, reaches its peak and ceases, so
happens in paradox along with the relationship and the story.
The whole scene is a true tale and a replication of a how females were sexually burdened in the 19th
century period under the notion of male chauvinism and superiority. It also explicates women
discovery of their rights and freedom over their body and relations. In that light, the story marks the
end of female oppression and a transition for transformation on the female gender. Mainly, Kate s
literary work comprises of the content that happened at the particular time of the century and the
activities that were

The Four Ws Of Power In Shakespeare s Tempest
The Four W s of Power
Power is an incredibly complicated, yet simple mechanism people take advantage of, and it essentially
defines every interaction between anyone. None of it is simple to understand, and both power and
control can be expressed in vastly different ways. The four W s are the four most common ways power
is demonstrated or obtained, and there are real world examples, and even examples in Shakespeare s
Tempest that demonstrate these W s being used. Now what are the four W s?
The first W is to control when an interaction begins. The person who begins an interaction
demonstrates that they are in charge. In Shakespeare s Tempest, this is demonstrated incredibly
obviously in the conversations between Prospero, and Ariel, Prospero s spiritual servant. Come away,
servant, come. I am ready now. Approach my Ariel. Come. (Shakespeare, Act 1, Sc. 2, Line 222 223).
Almost every single time Ariel appears in the play, he is being summoned. This shows Prospero s
power over Ariel by showing that he can begin the interaction whenever he wants. Another potential
way this could demonstrate power is if the conversation is hesitated. If no words are being said and if
no action is being done, it is the person that is most comfortable in this silence and stillness that
demonstrates power.
The next of the four W s is who. Controlling who someone has power over is just as, if not more
important to maintaining control as any of the other 3 points. In Shakespeare s Tempest, Prosperous

Overview and Significance of Zimbardo’s Prison Experiment
Overview and Significance of Zimbardo s Prison Experiment Have you ever wondered why ordinary
people do unusual things that seem alien to their natures? Why do good people sometimes act evil?
Who do smart people sometimes do dumb or irrational things? Zimbardo is one of the most significant
social psychologist and all his work aims to find the answers to these questions. The purpose of this
paper is to go into depth on the previous prison experiment, how it came about, and how the findings
play a role in society today. The Life and Times of Zimbardo Philip George Zimbardo was born in
New York City on March 23, 1933. His parents originally migrated from a small town called
Cammarata, about 40 miles from Palermo, Sicily. Stateside his ... Show more content on

Eventually the prisoners started rebelling, irritating the guards purposely, and that is when the study
actually began. After around three days of the guards and the prisoners going back and forth prisoner
8612 had an emotional breakdown. Originally everyone thought that he was just a weak individual but
looking back at it, five other prisoners started having emotional breakdowns as well. I think this
stemmed from having all their freedom, their rights taking away over night. Having to clean toilets
with your bare hands, and being humiliated sexually in front of your peers. On the fifth day of the
study Zimbardo invited his girlfriend to come see the experiment and when she was down there she
broke down crying and left because she witnessed bags over the prisoners head as they walked to the
bathroom. She said, It s terrible what you are doing to those boys in tears. At first Zimbardo didn t
realize what she meant so he defended his study stating that this is the natural humanistic way but
when she said I don t want anything to do with you if this is the real you. He then realized what he
was doing was unethical and causing real psychological harm and that moment is when he stopped his
study just six days in. Reality of the Simulation This brings up the question why do good people do
bad things? Although this was an experiment, many feel to this day that this was the real deal.
Prisoners believe they lost their true identity. One prisoner stated in

Causes of The American Revolution Essay
The period before the American Revolution was characterized by a series of social as well as political
shifts that occurred in American society as new republican principles took hold in the gentry of the
colonies. That time era distinguished the sharp political debates between radicals and moderates over
the role that democracy should play in a government. This broad new American shift to republicanism
and a newfound support of democracy was a catastrophe to the traditional social hierarchy, which
characterized an old mixed government in the Americas. This new republican ethic forced in a new
age of American political values. By 1775, republicanism had become a widespread philosophy in the
colonies. It incorporated federalist ideals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The acts also instituted the need to enforce mercantilist policies in the Americas. The Sugar Act was
passed to place a regulation on trade in the colonies to indirectly tax tea (one of the most demanded
products in the Americas). Another act that passed was the Stamp Act. This was the first direct tax on
colonial peoples. They responded to this with the plea no taxation without representation . This was a
saying that meant the British could not rightfully institute taxes on the colonists because they did not
have any political say in whether or not they wanted to be taxed. Practically there was no way that a
semi independent nation 3,000 miles away from Britain could be represented in their government.
This was a ploy by the radicals used to market and spark the idea of American independence and
formulate more radical ideas. Radical societies were formed to fight against the new acts being
instituted by the British. The Sons of Liberty were formed in every colony, and used propaganda,
intimidation, and mob violence to prevent the enforcement of the acts. This was a radical group that
was formed because of the Revolution in America. American independence in and of itself was a
radical idea. The colonies had been established as a money making scheme for great Britain; no one
ever guessed they would spark war with their mother country and become their own sovereign nation.
Many Radical propaganda writers were influenced by the American Revolution. Thomas

Analysis Of The White Porch By Cathy Song
The poem The White Porch by Cathy Song is an illustration of maturity and coming of age. There is
an innocent tone to the beginning of the poem with sensual undertones as the writing progress s. In the
poem, a woman is reminiscing about her young womanhood as she sits on her porch awaiting her
presumed lover. Song creates the character of the woman to be of a homemaker, describing her duties
taking care of laundry, having a cake in the oven and snapping beans in her lap. Through the
visualization that Song creates it is assumed that the woman is pregnant, and as she is waiting for her
husband she thinks back to the things she herself used to do when she was younger with her own
mother. She is reflecting on the way her mother raised her thinking about how she wants to raise her
own child. The speaker admits to sneaking in her lover late at night behind her mother s back, but does
not seem to feel remorseful because all her decisions led to where she is in her life now. Cathy Songs
poem The White Porch portrays the transition of a girl into a woman using symbolism, imagery and
simile.
The use of symbolism is one of the main literary elements used in this poem. The speaker s long hair
is used as a representation of sexuality. Women are often viewed to be more desirable with longer hair.
Long hair it is also used to validate femininity and in earlier years also represented social status.
Throughout history, hair has been worn in a variety of ways often determined by the

The Pros And Cons Of The Confederate Flag
It sure seems like hypocrisy to say we can t fly the Confederate flag because it offends people, when
you fly the gay flag, which certainly offends significant amount of people. Who gets to decide which
flag is allowed to fly and which ones can t? It may be true some racists have used the Confederate
flag, but racists also wave the American flag. So another words the Confederate is NOT racists, us
Americans also wave around a flag (the American flag) so why should us American say it is racist that
they are waving around their flag when we are waving around our own flag. They have the right to

There may come a day when the blatantly racist meaning of the flag fades away along with the scars
of integration. Until that day comes, the responsibility falls upon Confederate flag fliers to explain
what it means to them. As for the rest of us, we should keep an open mind, about a symbol that has
stood for so much to so many, be it right or wrong.Taking down the Confederate flag does not mean
supporters of the flag have lost. It s a message that we refuse to allow the people who use the flag as a
symbol of hate to divide us. We may never completely agree on whether the Confederate flag is a

America And Its Homeland Security Online Essay
America and Its Homeland Security Online
Abstract: Everyday security is provided by the states and federal government. These tasks get more
difficult as new technology introduces itself. Cybersecurity is one of the most popular security sectors
in today s world. There is not only cyberbullying going on in the world. Terrorism can be planned and
sent from person to person over the internet. People s identities are being stole to help carry out these
terrorist acts and this is just the being of it. The United States created the Department of Homeland
Security as a result of the 9/11 attacks. This was an effort to prevent future terrorist attacks on our
nation. Along with that department, laws have been enacted, such as the USA PATRIOT Act. This law
was introduced and passed to provide Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies with better
resources to fight and stand up against terrorism. The way to successfully providing security against
domestic and international terrorists is to understand the mentality of a terrorist. Critical assessments,
more efficient alert systems, and physical security standards must improve in order to solidify our
current security posture if the United States wants to deter future terrorist attacks against its culture
and economy. So let us all start at the very beginning. What is the major threat behind cyber terrorism
and cyber vandalism? Once you take a major look at the early years, the internet and websites were

Literacy Action Plan
In the prior Literacy Action Plan, the material, resources, and information used and found were done
for specific reasons. These reasons were found by using data from state assessments and district
assessments from Okeechobee School District. Janice Greenberg stated Tony Wagner goes on to say
that children will need seven basic survival skills to succeed in the world that awaits them which are
as follows: 1) Critical thinking and Problem Solving, 2)Collaboration across Networks and Leading
by Influence, 3) Agility and Adaptability, 4) Initiative and Entrepreneurialism, 5) Effective Oral and
Written Communication, 6) Accessing and Analyzing Information, and 7) Curiosity and Imagination
(Greenberg, 2011). These are also reasons why students should be proficient in reading and writing
and why we have to write a Literacy Action Plan so we have action set into place to help our students
achieve proficient scores in Reading and Writing. The first priority that was completed in the ... Show

  • 2. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) can be identified as the condition that demonstrates persistent, high levels of anxiety and excessive worry about one s daily life. These anxious feelings tend to reveal physical symptoms that can interfere with the patient s optimal functioning since they are constantly feeling restless or tense. According to the DSM 5, in order to properly diagnosis a patient with GAD, the patient must demonstrate the symptoms majority of days for at least six months and experience significant distress or impairment in life activities. GAD is developed during one s childhood and adolescent year, gradually becoming more apparent as they mature. In the United States, GAD affects approximately 1.2 percent to 2.9 percent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A common theme found in all three disorders is the development of negative cognition, emotions, and schemas. Negative schemas are a key role in GAD because it focuses on how an individual interprets and organizes the world. An individual s cognitive interpretation provides an explanation why anxiety is evoked. In PTSD, a person s negative emotions and dysfunctional thoughts about themselves or their environment are more likely to have PTSD. Individuals diagnosis with MDD tends to have negative thoughts due to their interpretation about themselves and their surrounding which can result in the feeling of worthlessness. An individual s cognition interpretations affect their overall emotion. Another common theme that GAD, PTSD, and MDD share is rumination. All these three disorders use rumination to cope with stressful situations. Although the disorders shared similarities, there are several differences in between them. In GAD, individuals tend to have a lower threshold for uncertainty and worry about worrying. These individuals have a misguided belief that worry is an effective method to face their problem or prevent any negative consequences from occurring. On the other hand, the severity of trauma and interpersonal trauma contribute to the psychological factors that affect PTSD. Individuals may overestimate the probability of the trauma occurring therefore, they react more intensely to it. In MDD, inadequate/ insufficient reinforcers and learned helplessness/ attributional styles distress an individual. People with MDD may receive insufficient social reinforcement which then causes them to withdraw from any social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Tale Of Two Cities Metaphors The literature that came out of the French Revolution often shares common themes of death, rebirth, and destruction. Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens is much the same way. Throughout the novel, Dickens clearly supports the revolution but also depicts the brutality of the revolutionaries. Dickens uses powerful metaphors of a sea to symbolize the revolutionaries destroying old France and the belittling name of Jacques to depict the narcissistic views of the French aristocracy to show his support for the revolution. Although Dickens clearly supports the revolutionaries cause, through metaphors of water, he highlights the sometimes animalistic nature of the revolution. In Book one, [T]he sea did what it liked and what it liked was destruction. Dickens acknowledges the inevitable nature of the revolution by comparing the sea to the French mob. And the mob, much like a sea, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Book two, Dickens alludes to the storming of the Bastille prison and once again describes the mob as a sea and the Bastille, the beach being attacked by the storm. With a roar, that sounded as if all the breath in France had been shaped into a detested word, the living sea rose, wave upon wave, depth upon depth, and overflowed the city. Again Dickens varies his opinion of the revolutions within a single line. He starts the metaphor depicting a unified France, at on the part of the revolutionaries versus nobility. By this point, all of France was involved with or affected by the revolution. In the second part of the quote particular the very end, the word choice of overflowed gives an image of excess violence. Dickens purposely used a word with negative connotations to encourage readers to examines the brutality of the French revolution. In Book three, DIckens uses similar word choice describing the swelling and overflowing of the crowd. Traditionally, swelling occurs when an overabundance of something accumulates. When one hurts themselves swelling occurs which leads to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Habitat AA Case Study A.) In fig 1A, the environmental selection, shows species in pool, where different habitat types existed. The species composition is determined by the environmental selection. Similar habitats select for similar species to occupy its environment. In 1A, habitats A and A have the same invasion of species which are species 1, 2, 3, and 4. The fundamental niche is where species could live and reproduce itself in the whole range of habitats. Diverse types of species could occupy similar habitat. In fig. 1D, dispersal limitation, the barrier requires that a species has the similar building blocks to occupy habitat can live in that habitat. There are some species that have none of the similar build up so they cannot thrive in the hosts bodies. The realized niche, is where a habitat where a species actually live. When we consider the microbiome in our gut as invasive species, like any other invasive species we can see that their chance of surviving in our body depends on niche and resources. The environment conditions such as temperature, pH, and aerobic/anaerobic will determine if a species occupy that space will thrive or not. By viewing pathogens as invasive species, we see that the contexts in which they are able to cause disease are the same as those required for any other species that invades and proliferates in a community (Costello et al., ... • 5. Sleeping Schedule Analysis I do not have a regular weekly schedule. I do very little planning out when I will work on assignments and when I will study ahead of time. Other than my class and work schedule, my commitment to studying, going to the gym, sleeping, socializing at specified times throughout the day varies on a weekly basis based on my work load and what is happening on and around campus. However, every Friday I take time to figure out all the assignments I have due and activities that I have planned the coming week. This list is prioritized and I can use it to determine when I am going to have to do the most work. This gives me the ability to work ahead if I desire or know that I can put off doing an assignment another day in favor of something fun and still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the time allotted to doing homework is during my five hour morning gap between classes. Though I am allocating a great deal of time to my school work, it is a good deal less than the recommended class to study hours ratio. It is recommended that students dedicate two hours of work outside of class for every hour in class. Because I am physically in a class twenty four and a half hours a week, I should be spending forty nine hours outside of class studying or doing homework. In order to do this I would, taking into account the amount of time spent doing necessary things such as sleeping and eating, need to limit myself to about three hours of free time a day. While this may initially sound like a good deal of time. This is based of a week s schedule where I did not go to the gym or workout at all. This will decrease the amount of free time that I have even further. This schedule also did not take into account time spent getting ready for class and whenever I left my room, this severely decreases the amount of free time I would have available. While it is entirely feasible to increase the number of hours I commit to my studies, I am unwilling to drastically diminish the amount of time I spend with my friends, especially in the evenings when I am tired from having class and working all day. However, I should still work to increase the amount of time I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Is Little Albert Unethical The story of Little Albert starts with a case study done by Dr. John B. Watson. When the study began little Albert did not show any sign of fear for any animals including the little white rat used in the experiment. It seems that Dr. Watson was determined to prove that everything that is feared became a fear by installation. He started the experiment with a constant, that being introducing the child to different animals and recording the reaction that is given. Dr. Watson then went on to prove his theory. When he brought the white rat back to Little Albert he set of a loud metal banging sound that upset Little Albert every time he reached for the rat. Soon Little Albert was afraid of the rat because he equated the rat to the loud noise that scared him. Not only was albert afraid of the rat he was afraid of all things that had fur. The Dr. even put on a white furry mask and saw that albert was then afraid of that as well. This study has no control variable. Little Albert was afraid basically because he was made to be afraid of the objects. Grant as the greatest Northern commander in the American Civil War, Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman was a master of modern warfare. Like Grant, Sherman was born in Ohio when it was a frontier state. He was named Tecumseh for the Shawnee Indian chief who had terrorized that region a few years earlier. Sherman was born on Feb. 8, 1820, in Lancaster, Ohio. His father died when he was 9 years old. Serious mistakes had been made at the battle of Shiloh, and the commander, Grant, had to take a lot of criticism. Grant wanted to withdraw from the army, but Sherman persuaded him to stay. In the Vicksburg campaign Sherman gave valuable aid to Grant. At its successful conclusion he generously gave all the credit to his superior officer. When Grant, as a result of this campaign, was made commander of the armies of the United States, Sherman was appointed to fill Grant s position as commander in the West. It was in this position that he carried on the campaign on which his fame rests. On May 6, 1864, he left Chattanooga, Tenn., for Atlanta, Ga. It took him four months to cover the 135 miles (215 kilometers) between the two places, for in this campaign he met a person worthy of his steel in Gen. Joseph E. Johnston, the Confederate commander. Atlanta was reached on September 2. After clearing the city of its civil population and resting his men, Sherman started on his famous march of 400 miles (645 kilometers) quot;from Atlanta to the sea. quot; For 32 days no news of him reached the North. He had cut himself off from his base of supplies, and his men lived on what they could get from the country through which they passed. • 11. The Importance Of Recess In Schools Across America school districts continue negotiating as to whether or not recess is an essential part of a child s school day. Recently there has been pressure to increase test scores in the United States. Consequently, recess is being cut or reduced in order to provide children with additional instructional time, but are breaks necessary for active learning? Recess is also a liability issue for schools since the environment is more relaxed and more exposed to the outside world. Ever since we can remember recess has been a vital part of the school day, but should that change? Will cutting recess improve children s test scores? This all started approximately five to ten years ago when nearly half of the schools in the United States began to lessen recess time or even cut it entirely (Dills 890). Some schools are not even building playgrounds anymore (Schachter 37). This occurred because of the push to increase test scores and the incentives that go along with it. The higher the test scores, the more funding schools receive. Therefore, schools are making sacrifices and doing the best that they can in order to receive as much funding possible. A school cannot be run properly without sufficient support so cutting recess if it in fact improves test scores is justifiable. As Anthony Pellegrini wrote in his book, to adults recess is just playtime and has no actual value, but for kid s recess is important (181). This remains the reason numerous districts are questioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is important because children learn best by observing those in their surroundings. If adults can openly talk with children about diversity and why it s good and how prejudice can be harmful children are provided with awareness. Children ask all kinds of questions and in doing so learn from them. If you avoid a question about someone s race gender, disability and sexuality, children will notice. They could think that the questions are inappropriate or unimportant and will there for make up their own conclusions which may be incorrect and not fair. • 15. Athenian Democracy and Divination Essay Athenian Democracy and Divination Divination was a prevalent feature in Archaic Greece, as it provided objective advice, to assist people in making appropriate decisions in problematic predicaments. In certain situations its ambiguity allowed decisions to be postponed, or blame to be assigned to others. Divination was also used to explain matters that seemed unexplainable, such as crop failure or drought. This is illustrated in the Homeric epics, which depicts numerous oracle interpreters, such as Calchas, consulting oracles on domestic, as well as, military decisions. Divination was a guiding authority in ancient society. However, during the fifth and fourth century BC, the democratic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, Thucydides also highlights the scientific approach that the Athenians have towards their domination of the Peloponnese, suggesting that it is the law of nature , that they should conquer as much as they can. The rise of freethinking, that the democracy had established, had lead to the neglect of the gods. In comparison, Xerxes, in his conquest to dominate Greece, complies with a dream that is sent from the gods, which indicates to him and Artabanus that he should continue with the Persian wars.[5] Herodotus, writing in the early fifth century, highlights the importance of following divination, whereas, Thucydides, writing in the later fifth century, focuses on decisions made by the people. Soon thereafter, Tammany was formed, to provide protection and bind the people of each borough. For example, Walker was against prohibition. In fact, he wanted it to be repealed the year it went into office. The prohibition era was referred to as the great impossibility . Miller further explains that, Many New Yorkers sided with Jimmy Walker, who saw Prohibition as a tyrannical abridgement of personal freedom. There is proof that compulsory military service would be in our nations best interest. It has historically shown to improve military preparedness, and also has evenly balanced the burden of military service. It also helps to instill a sense of duty into those who serve. If however, a draft was imposed, with these deferments eliminated, then the burden of military service would fall less on the minorities and the impoverished, but rather on all men of military age. Professor Charles Moskos, a former draftee, and currently a professor at Northwestern University makes several good arguments in support of the draft. He points out the large number of volunteers who fail to fulfill their initial enlistments: A reality often overlooked in the all volunteer force is that one third of entering members fail to complete their initial enlistments. Contrast this with the one in 10 draftees who did not complete their two year obligation. It s much better to have a soldier serve a short term honorably than be discharged prematurely for cause . He raises an excellent point when he says that it would be detrimental to allow our troops to be dishonorably discharged. Another excellent point brought up by Professor Moskos. He argues that because for some jobs it takes a higher level of technical skill, that cant possibly be met by short term service, higher compensation should be offered to those who serve longer. Higher compensation should be aimed at those whose skills require extended training and job experience. Well, I know one thing that we can agree on; A civilization is made up of five characteristics. Those five characteristics include Complex Institutions, Advanced Cities, Record Keeping, Advanced Technology, and Specialized workers. Due to those five characteristics, a civilization is a place of safety for a certain religious or ethnic group of people. Not only is it usually safe because of those five characteristics, it is also a secure living area with its own form of government. Why do so many of us believe this? Take a look around. There are many places and were many places that, for the most part, stuck together with a singular ethnicity or religion. Within the next few paragraphs, I am going to explicate how certain civilizations, or how civilizations in general, are impacted in growth and development by geography, how the human rights are defined in certain civilizations, and what the effects of human interaction over time both positively and negatively affect a civilization. The geography within an area impacts both the development and growth of a civilization positively and negatively. For example, there is the Nile, in Egypt. Asthma can be defined as a chronic pulmonary disease that involves inflammation and bronchospasms. To fully understand asthma and its attributes, one must understand the pathophysiology of asthma, including the lower respiratory tract, and the bronchiolar smooth muscle. Stated simply, the major role of the respiratory system is to bring oxygen into the human body, and remove carbon dioxide (Adams, Holland, Urban,). This is nonetheless respiration, or the exchange of gases. Another phenomenon occurring in our respiratory system is ventilation. This is when the air moves in and out of the lungs. • 26. Literary Interpretation In The Storm By Kate Chopin The Storm by Kate Chopin The entire setting of the story The Storm by Kate Chopin is an accurate reflection of an adulterous situation. It employs the symbol The Storm to portray an exact circumstance that acknowledges the existence of unfaithfulness through adultery. The story took place in the period 1800s and gives a clear account of an affair that constituted Calixta who was the protective mother to Bibi and the wife to Bobinot, Alcee, the husband to Clarisse. The relationship among the people above took place at the prime time when there existed a violent rainstorm. As such, the depiction of the rainstorm does not give an account of a particular coincidence that occurred behind the whole scene but represents an external influence through which the proximity of the narration and the affair appeared simultaneously. The narrative begins with the storm occurrence, reaches its peak and ceases, so happens in paradox along with the relationship and the story. The whole scene is a true tale and a replication of a how females were sexually burdened in the 19th century period under the notion of male chauvinism and superiority. It also explicates women discovery of their rights and freedom over their body and relations. In that light, the story marks the end of female oppression and a transition for transformation on the female gender. • 27. The Four Ws Of Power In Shakespeare s Tempest The Four W s of Power Power is an incredibly complicated, yet simple mechanism people take advantage of, and it essentially defines every interaction between anyone. None of it is simple to understand, and both power and control can be expressed in vastly different ways. The four W s are the four most common ways power is demonstrated or obtained, and there are real world examples, and even examples in Shakespeare s Tempest that demonstrate these W s being used. Now what are the four W s? The first W is to control when an interaction begins. The person who begins an interaction demonstrates that they are in charge. In Shakespeare s Tempest, this is demonstrated incredibly obviously in the conversations between Prospero, and Ariel, Prospero s spiritual servant. Come away, servant, come. I am ready now. Approach my Ariel. Come. (Shakespeare, Act 1, Sc. 2, Line 222 223). Almost every single time Ariel appears in the play, he is being summoned. This shows Prospero s power over Ariel by showing that he can begin the interaction whenever he wants. Another potential way this could demonstrate power is if the conversation is hesitated. If no words are being said and if no action is being done, it is the person that is most comfortable in this silence and stillness that demonstrates power. The next of the four W s is who. Controlling who someone has power over is just as, if not more important to maintaining control as any of the other 3 points. In Shakespeare s Tempest, Prosperous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was a saying that meant the British could not rightfully institute taxes on the colonists because they did not have any political say in whether or not they wanted to be taxed. Practically there was no way that a semi independent nation 3,000 miles away from Britain could be represented in their government. There is an innocent tone to the beginning of the poem with sensual undertones as the writing progress s. In the poem, a woman is reminiscing about her young womanhood as she sits on her porch awaiting her presumed lover. Song creates the character of the woman to be of a homemaker, describing her duties taking care of laundry, having a cake in the oven and snapping beans in her lap. Through the visualization that Song creates it is assumed that the woman is pregnant, and as she is waiting for her husband she thinks back to the things she herself used to do when she was younger with her own mother. She is reflecting on the way her mother raised her thinking about how she wants to raise her own child. The speaker admits to sneaking in her lover late at night behind her mother s back, but does not seem to feel remorseful because all her decisions led to where she is in her life now.
