Justice Hugo L Black Case
The board of education was in Champaign County, Illinois which had let teachers with religious
beliefs come into the public schools to provide 30 to 45 minutes of weekly religion instructions for the
kids in grades fourth though ninth that was in public schools. Parents had printed cards that they
signed authorizing that their children were able to attend these classes, and absences were reported to
the school authorities. The ones that did not attend the religious instructions were not excused from
any of their regular classes. The teachers were employed by the Champaign Council on religious
education at no cost to the schools. They had classes that were offered to the Protestant, Catholic, and
Jewish students. Programs were very popular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The arrangement for the Champaign presents powerful and good elements for the inherent pressure by
the school system for the religious sects. The fact that the power has not been used so it can
discriminate is so beside the point. Separation is for the government and the religious sects not to be
fussing and also the treat them all equally. So that a child be offered an alternative that may reduce the
constraint. But somehow the results are an obvious pressure upon a child to attend. Frankfurter
continued to explain, that separation means separation, not something less than that. Jefferson s
metaphor is use to describe the relation between church and state speaks of this wall of separation, not
of a fine line easily overstepped. Public school is at once the symbol of everyone s democracy and the
pervasive means for promoting our common destiny. The act of the state is not vital to keep out
divisive forces than in its schools, so it can avoid confusion, not to say fusing, the constitution

The Use Of Pesticides And Growth Hormone
Sara Richards Professor Phil 305 Intro: With the world s population continuing to increase, the
demand for food is higher than ever. A growing population means more demand on food. The world
population will rise to 9.3 billion in 2050 and surpass 10 billion by the end of this century. (Sanyal)
This should say something about our growing population that is still continuing to grow to this day.
This increase in food demand also calls for more efficient ways of growing and providing food
without causing any damage to our environment or our health. Two methods that can be effective for
this demand are the organic and conventional method. Decision: Its unethical for conventional farmers
to use of pesticides and growth hormone to multiply their products faster and bigger than organic
farmers. Meanwhile while these conventional farmers make millions in their products, millions of
people are deprived from a healthy diet by choosing to support organic farmers. The reason against the
Claim: The influence conventional farmers have on consumers. While many people want to support
the organic method because of its known benefits but they also feel that it is just another way to cheat
consumers out of their money. However, studies have proven that conventional fruits, vegetables, and
even drinks are cheaper than organic. With the world population growing larger and larger we need
efficient way to provide food for everyone with reasonable price. Even though it is more efficient to

Survivor s Guilt In The Seventh Man By Haruki Murakami
Thousands of people are injured or killed every year during natural disasters. Many people may argue
about whether people should feel survivor s guilt or not after going through a life/death situation.
Survivor s guilt is when a person has went through a life/death situation and feel guilty about
surviving. Survivors of a life/death situations should not feel survivor s guilt
One reason survivors of life and death situations should not feel survivor s guilt is because it can keep
you from healing. In the short story The seventh man written by Haruki Murakami in paragraph 47 it
states ....didn t get married another example is in paragraph 48 Didn t go back for 40 years . This
shows that feeling guilty about his life/death situations made his life miserable until he realises it wasn
t a big deal. This proves that, in the end survivor s guilt shouldn t affect someone who went through a
life and death situation because it wasn t their fault for wanting to live.
Another reason why survivors of life/death situations should not feel survivor s guilt is because it is
illogical. This is explained in the anchor text The moral logic of survivor guilt by Nancy Sherman. In
paragraph 5 it states We often take responsibility in a way the goes beyond what we can be held
responsible. This shows that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

life much harder due to it reminding the victim of there terrible tragedy. This proves that survivors

Night Lizard Research Paper
They are the miniature dinosaurs of our current era. Some of them may be so scary that we have to
call the fire department to get them out of our house. Many are small in size but still relate to many of
the late predecessors that had once ruled the planet. Yes, lizards are the animal that are being
mentioned and talked about. Lizards are a well adapted, variety of species that still contain anatomy
from the Mesozoic Era and still are an important part of the ecosystem. The two most common lizards
in California are the night lizards and the fence lizard. These two species have sub species from them;
however, they both have a similar body structure but have very different habitats when compared to
each other. If these lizards were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The heart of these reptiles has changed very little, if not at all. Their hearts have three chambers,
unlike mammals who have four chambered hearts (Dowling). With it, reptiles have advantages and
disadvantages. In the winter a lizard will restrict blood flow through their lungs in order to save
energy as they hibernate (Dowling). Having only a three chambered heart puts a large restraint on the
amount of heat that is produced inside the body. Similar to those of the past reptiles, lizards will tend
to colonize in open areas where there is a large amount of direct sunlight. Direct sunlight will greatly
warm a reptile s body so that they can perform their basic metabolic functions with more ease. The
blood pressure of a lizard is also very low due to their hearts; as a result, lizards have grown to not
need a continuous food supply but still eat in bulk like their predecessor(Dowling). In many cases,
lizards that have a diet of an herbivore located in dessert biomes have been found to eat cactus fruit
and low growing flowers. With the integration of plants into their diet, lizards easily control small
plant populations throughout many desserts of the

The Cask Of Amontillado By Neil Gaiman
The past can tell a lot about someone s life and personality. In literature the use of flashback gives
insight to both the characters as well as the plot of the story. Both Neil Gaiman s How to talk to Girls
at Parties and Edgar Allen Poe s The Cask of Amontillado show examples of using this literary device
and how it affects the story. Not only does the use of flashback give insight to the character s
background and motivation ,but also affects both stories in tone and characterization. Neil Gaiman s
short story takes place thirty years in the past. Gaiman uses flashback to create tone and suspense. The
story begins with two young friends on the way to a party together. However, Gaiman causes the
reader to question what will happen later on by interrupting the story saying, I ve not seen Vic for
thirty years. I m not sure that I would know what to say to him if I did (228). Both Enn and Vic were
great friends; however, Enn stating in the future that him and Vic have not talked or seen each other in
thirty years shows that something in the story has caused this riff between them. The application of
flashback causes the reader to question what in the story has caused this and gives a sense of
uncertainty. This example of flashback also acts as foreshadowing towards the plot. What will
happen? How did it change their friendship? Gaiman uses words in past tense such as in my memory
(230) and back then (233) . The use of these words and diction used gives the

with what these artists are saying? Socially Conscious music became very prevalent during the 1960s
and remained widespread throughout the 70s, with soul music taking over from folk music as one of
the strongest voices of protest in American music. During these eras, American young people believed
they could make a difference in their society and government. They believed that America was a
democratic society that could be made better, freer, and more just. Young people organized to end

The song marginalises the short term effects of the drug and chooses to focus on the negative social
problems. James Brown like a lot of other soul musicians sought to identify themselves as anti drugs
and socially conscious and used song as a method to get their message across. During the height of the
civil rights movement, Brown s lyrics gave the Black community a new assertiveness and confidence
in their cultural identity. Musically this song s relaxed nature straight away makes it easy to relate to.
The song is slow in tempo and quite melancholy. It s Structure is simple and gives way for the listener
to focus on the words. James Brown vocals are spoken word yet quite rhythmic. Simon frith stated
that The experience of pop music is an experience of identity: in responding to a song, we are drawn,
haphazardly, into emotional alliances with the performers and with the performers other fans. In the

Woodrow Wilson s Impact On The World And Foreign...
Woodrow Wilson saw the end of the Great War as an opportunity to attempt to remake the World and

out his own interpretation Wilsonian foreign policy known as the Truman Doctrine. The Truman
Doctrine sought to combat the spread of communism through financial and military counter forces.
Not all of Truman s efforts for U.S. intervention were as fruitful for the U.S. internationally or
economically as his advisors had predicted. Nor did the Truman Doctrine always create the intended
and desired outcomes they had hoped to achieve in securing democratic nations as trading partners
and allies against the expansion of communist regimes. The attempts of the United States to remake
the World after WWI and WWII were only partially achieved. The United States pursued a successful
policy of containment with in Western Europe; however the U.S. failed to accomplish these policies

Chapter 58 of Isiah
Chapter 58 of Isaiah marks an important change in cultural values due to the humiliation brought
about by the Babylonian invasion around the 6th century B.C.E. Gone are the days of good and evil
being simply defined as that which coincides with Yahweh s will, and that which doesn t. Now, Isaiah
tells the people that simply following the current ways of sacrifice aren t enough, and instead calls for
social justice (Chilton, 200), and, in a sense, attempts to invite a return to pre monarchical social
structuring. This new morality value system aims to upset the existing post monarchical Israelite
social structure, whilst also invigorate a new, post exilic, collective Israelite national identity. Thus, let
us begin by examining the political, social, and literary motivations behind this Book.
We must first realize that the Book of Isaiah can be divided into three blocks (1 39, 40 55 and 56 66),
and each are starkly different in tone, theme, and delivery (Chilton, 189). Chapter 58 belongs to the
third block, and thus, does not dabble in the same interplay between doubt and reassurance, and
confident, hymnic affirmation in response to the uncertainty of people (Chilton, 198). We can see this
new tone clearly in the 4 opening lines. Shout out, do not hold back! Announce to my people their
rebellion, to the house of Jacob their sins (Isaiah, 58). When compared against the more emotionally
vacillatory first and even the second block of Isaiah, the third block is conveying a

Essay about The Roman Military Reforms institued by Gaius...
The hypothesis of this report is that the military reforms instituted by Gaius Marius ultimately paved
the way for the fall of the Roman Republic. The reforms instituted by Marius were designed as a way
to strengthen the Republic by professionalizing the Roman military, but instead resulted in long term
political consequences that contributed to the decline of the Republic and the creation of the Empire.
In this report, the decline of the republic specifically refers to the loss of the Senate s authority over
Rome s generals. From 112 106 BC, a Numidian king called Jurgurtha was engaged in a war with
Rome due to an attempt to seize power from his half brother, Adherbal. The Romans arrived due to the
request of Adherbal, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As many of these new recruits did not fit in these categories, and were unable to provide their own
equipment, Marius arranged for the State to supply them with arms and armour. He then offered the
masses a permanent career as professional soldiers, and the opportunity to gain spoils on the
campaign. With little hope of gaining status in other ways, the masses flocked to join Marius. The
cause of this reform was largely due to recurring recruitment problems faced by the Roman republic,
as most soldiers were expected to return to their farms after long campaigns, but since the campaigns
were becoming increasingly longer due to the distance of the conflicts from rome, the farms were left
deserted and ruined do to prolonged absence of workers. As such, the returning soldiers found
themselves without property making them illegible for military service, thus weakening the army.
(William G. Sinnigen) As such, Marius believed these deficiencies in the Roman army recruitment
system needed urgent attention, and his solution was to offer those with nothing the ability to have
everything. Along with the new recruitment system, Marius also improved and enhanced the military
training by basing it upon those used and developed by gladiators and also abolished the three
different types of soldiers, each armed and positioned by rank and experience, with cohorts of men
universally armed and created the use of the eagle as the standard for

Mistakes In Medical Field Essay
Jerald A. Eckman Making mistakes is what it means to be human. It is the way in which we deal with
this adversity that determines whether we will regress or prosper. I think of the mistakes I have made
in my life as opportunities to grow as a man and a young physician an individual with the ability and
desire to help others in need, especially during times in their life when they may feel as though many
of their decisions have been mistakes. When my medical education began, I immediately knew this
was a passion unlike any other I had ever had. Unfortunately, my exuberance for becoming a
physician was not initially met with academic achievement. At the end of my first semester, I knew
that I could either let the mistakes I have made defeat me, or I could use them to my advantage. I often
reflect on my initial struggles as a medical student as being one of the most difficult, and yet,
ironically rewarding experiences of my adult life. To this day, I recall the uncertainty I faced, and the

What Is The Purpose Of Electromyography
Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Studies
An electromyogram (EMG) gauges the electrical activity of muscles at rest and during contraction.
Nerve conduction studies (NCS) measure how well and how fast the nerves can send electrical
signals.
The nervous system is a complex, sophisticated system that regulates and coordinates body activities.
It is made up of two major divisions: the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) and the
peripheral nervous system (all other neural elements). The brain sends out signals through electrical
signals called impulses that control the muscles of the body. Unfortunately, nerve and muscle
problems cause the muscles to react in abnormal ways.
The purpose of EMG/NCS is to localize where your symptoms are coming from. That can be pain,
any kind of numbness and tingling, and/or weakness and the test is also good at assessing the severity
of your symptoms. Typically, these studies are ordered when a patient is having some type of nerve
symptom: pain, numbness and tingling or a burning sensation, and/or any type of weakness where a
person can feel a change in muscle strength. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Relationship Between Elia Kazan And Arthur Miller
The claim of this essay is about the complicated relationship between Elia Kazan and Arthur Miller If
someone was asked to give information about the Red Scare they had to be truthful in the court.
Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible, and Elia Kazan was a film director. Kazan made a film On the
Waterfront he wanted to combine the two recent films together. It was a story about a man and his
friend, Kazan wanted to take part in his own play as the leading role. It was one of the top rated film
of its time after watching it people could have changed their whole aspect of how they looked at the
film. Arthur Miller was born on October 17, 1915 in New York City. Arthur wrote several screenplays
and was noted for his work on The Misfits. Elia Kazan was born in Turkey on September 7, 1909 him
and his parents later moved to the United States.
In this moment no one was close to film director Kazan, he has filmed/produced 2 of Arthur s plays.
Miller came with the idea to write the play about The Crucible and he wanted Elia to help him on it.
(columbia.edu)
When Miller and Kazan started working on the film, they got really close. They even shared Marilyn
Monroe. They worked together on other plays as in The Hook and After the Fall. The Red Scars
started to repeat history again. Later on, Miller, the author of the Crucible, decided to write the play
after he heard what Kazan had to say. The relationship between Kazan and Miller was good at first.
(telegraph.co.uk)
Miller had a better connection with Marilyn then Kazan and all he thought was that Marilyn would
never be successful in her career in wanting to be an actress. Arthur Miller fell in love with Marilyn.
Monroe was actually the one to thank for the two s infamous decisions . All three of them were at a
party when Marilyn forced the two men to shake hands. After they got over their differences they were

Work Fulltime At An Active Air Force Base
I currently work fulltime at an active Air Force base in Madison, WI. It has an organizational culture
very different from that of most civilian employers; honoring thy basic tenets of Duty, Honor, and
Country. That being said, I work in a tightly organized establishment with strict standards in structure,
professionalism, and appearance. In general, the military emphasizes discipline and hierarchy, and
even has its own governing body of law (the Uniform Code of Military Justice). The group always
takes precedence over the individual and loyalties are developed to the specific branch one resides in.
Of the four major theories of organization discussed over the course of the semester, bureaucratic
formal organizational theory best describes the military and my organization. Plainly stated, the
military operates around specific goals and operations with several interrelated groups (subsystems)
governed by clearly defined and enforced rules and norms. While formal organizational theories may
seem dated, the military has strong roots in its development. German Sociologist Max Weber created a
bureaucratic model with five key components that strongly interrelates with military life and structure.
In fact, the military was his prototype. The first element of Weber s theory is that of labor division and
functional specialization, where he divides jobs into fixed categories based on competence and
functional specialization. In the military, you are placed into a specific

wants to show poetry is art and life. Sidney shows that by him writing poetry he is learning how to act.
Sidney poetry writes against people that thought poetry was a waste of time and is defining poetry as
the first source of dispelling ignorance of the mind.
Astrophil and Stella by Phillip Sidney refer to Sidney s private life during court. Astrophil and Stella
is a poem arrangement written from the point of view of a patrician in love with a Lady who is already
married. The poem explores his despair over the unrequited love which we seen in Petrarch s sonnet
sequence. Sidney uses follows Petrarch s form of rejection from of woman. The different is here, is
that we can tell that Sidney has put himself in the sonnets. There is a real lady here that he really wants
to be in love with. Sidney put himself in an uncontrollable mind of a teenage boy who is just falling in

Ziggy Marley Tomorrow People
What did you think? I enjoyed Ziggy Marley And The Melody Makers Tomorrow People. The beat
was mellow yet still upbeat. The song is quite different from tunes here in the United States. It was
filled with a lot of emotion. Reggae is a music genre originated from Jamaica during the late 1960s.
As stated by Britannica, It was widely perceived as a voice of the oppressed. It s very common for
music to be used as an escape or call to action. Consequently, the song s lyrics although simple are
laced with deep meanings that would cause you to think about many discussions that may have never
crossed your mind. What similarities/differences did you notice about the album and the music you
may hear on American radio? I found that both the American

Summary Of The Poem Wish You Were Here
Pink Floyd s hit, Wish You Were Here has been recognized as one of the most poetic songs of its
decade. With a proper analysis, Roger Waters provides lyrics that allow you to walk away with some
interesting perspectives on life s big questions. Though many would argue that the meaning of the
song is more literal and personal to the band, the universal meaning would be lost if we were to
narrow our focus just on how these lyrics refer to one situation between one set of people at one
particular point in time.
Roger Waters starts off the song by posing several stacked rhetorical questions which also make use of
juxtaposition. The first of which heaven and hell is one of the most common juxtapositions found in
literature. the speaker is framing his initial question and all the questions that follow around the idea
of telling something good from something bad. this idea echoes throughout the whole first verse with
our sense of connotation and the speaker s parallel syntax cluing us in, as to which thing is good and
which is bad. That is, the image with the positive connotation always comes first and the image with
the negative connotation always comes second. Heaven, blue skies, green field and a smile are all by
their nature things to be embraced. On the other hand, hell and pain are intrinsically things to be
rejected. A cold steel rail and a veil only take on a negative connotation when they are juxtaposed with
a green field and a smile. The sense of Industry and progress

positive symptom are hallucinations which makes people hear voices, feel touched when they are not

The Importance Of Public Health And Environmental Problems...
The Tijuana Estuary has been affected for many decades from the pollution that is brought by the
runoff from the Tijuana watershed. The Tijuana watershed is a large watershed with an area of 1,750
square miles. The Tijuana watershed is a unique watershed in San Diego because three fourths of the
watershed is in Mexico where a majority of the runoff flows across the border into the United States
where it is discharged into the ocean. The watershed is located in a dry environment that is considered
arid and only receives 10 inches of rain annually. A majority of the western basin is made up of
developed land while the eastern basin is mostly undeveloped land (The Tijuana River National
Estuarine Research Reserve 2014). The Tijuana watershed has a rapid population growth with a
majority of the Mexican residents living with insufficient utilities which causes unsanitary conditions
and accelerated erosion. Public health and environmental problems occur because Mexico does not
have strong environmental policies. Projects to help with these issues have been put into place to help
improve water quality. Most of the runoff that is collected in the watershed eventually makes its way
into the Tijuana Estuary and along the coastline which can result in economic problems because of
beach closures. These areas are also home to many endangered species. Many of the endangered birds
that live in the Tijuana estuary feed on plants and small fish that are in and around the watershed. The

Abnormal Psychology-Unipolar and Bipolar Depression Essay
Abnormal Psychology | Unipolar and Bipolar Depression | Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment | Shawn
M Best 10/16/2011 | Identifying the causes of unipolar and bipolar depression can be a complicated
task because there are no known exact causes, just theories. These theories include chemical and
hormonal imbalances within the brain, a misfiring of ion activity, and inherited genetics or biological
abnormalities (Comer, 2005). Individuals who suffer with unipolar depression, which is the ordinary
template of mood disorders, experience only the depression side of the disorder. Women are twice as
probable to encounter unipolar depression then men. Depression symptoms stretch across five features
of human functioning such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Behaviorally, individuals experience diminished productivity, activity, move and speak slower, and
would rather be in bed and alone for long periods (Kraines amp; Thatford, 1972, p. 21, cited by
Comer, 2005). In accordance with biological views, minimal operation of neurotransmitters called
serotonin and norepinephrine, are agents of depression. Hormonal elements may also be involved, and
the biological issues mentioned could be combined with genetic factors. Efficacious biological
management for unipolar depression are electroconvulsive therapy (ECI) and antidepressant drugs
such as MAO inhibitors, tricyclics, and second generation antidepressants (Comer, 2005). The
psychodynamic aspect holds the belief that particular individual s who experience authentic or
conceived losses could backslide to earlier phases of development, melding with the individual he or
she lost, and finally becoming dejected. Psychodynamic therapists assist individuals with unipolar
depression by helping him or her identify, and clarify, his or her losses, and stratospheric reliance on
other people (Comer, 2005). The behavioral aspect explains that when individuals endure a diminished
amount of positive rewards throughout life, he or she may become depressed. Behavioral therapists
teach patients to reestablishes activities that he or she once found pleasing and gratifying, effective
social skills, and to reward

Physical Therapy Summary
A source, written by Greve and Schmitt, studied two children that were both diagnosed with spastic
diplegia, and during there therapy session, the participants were instructed a set of goals to work
toward. To begin, the introduction discussed what issues children with cerebral palsy struggle with.
These authors are credible because they work in the Cincinnati Children s Hospital Medical Center as
physical therapists and occupational therapists. The article holds authority in that it was published in
the peer reviewed journal Pediatric Physical Therapy. The introduction discusses the idea that
intensive bursts of therapy are more effective than, for example, lower intensity therapy over a long
period of time (Bailes, Greve, Schmitt, 2010). Authors Bailes, Greve, and Schmitt write, One such

After observation, it was determined that each child showed some improvement in some areas, but the
children also showed declines in some areas (Bailes, Greve, Schmitt, 2010). Basically, it was
determined that more studies must be performed to determine the exact results suit therapy has on
children with cerebral palsy and spastic diplegia. This article appears unbiased; the children were
chosen randomly based on specific criteria (spastic diplegia and cerebral palsy diagnosis), and their
results were measured using criteria specific to their needs. Different health professionals observed the
participants, including physical therapy and occupational therapy, which means, observation and
conclusions drawn were based on multiple opinions. These factors cause the article to seem credible
and show no bias. A year after this study was published another study was conducted that increased

There is nothing else like it in the solar system. It is because of water (Miller 311).

Design and Funciton of Treatment Systems
Conventional Sewage Treatment.
Conventional Sewage Treatment plants are the most common system for wastewater treatment in the
United States. These systems are found in all urban communities but only in a few rural communities.
This complex system is responsible for processing of the waste of the majority of the people in the
United States yet few of them understand the scientific principles involved with treatment. In addition
many people are even unaware of where their wastewater goes after it has been flushed down the toilet
or disappear through the bath tub drain. I will attempt to describe the biological, chemical and
physical process involved with the treatment of wastewater through the use of conventional sewage
treatment.
The first step involved with wastewater treatment is the transport of the wastes from houses and
industry to the treatment plant. This is done through a complex matrix of pipes and lift stations. All
sewage goes to the treatment plant using the laws of gravity. Since the flow of gravity requires the
sewage to head continually

The Effect Of N-3deficient Diet And Its Affect On Humans
Over the last century, the diet of the average human has been getting substantially worse. Vitamin and
mineral intake has drastically declined due to pesticides destroying the soil s natural nutrients, which
in turn created a yearn to understand this new diet s impact on the health of society (Ettinger,2016).
One major shift has been to a high ratio of omega 6 (n 6) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) to
omega 3 (n 3) PUFAs, which a recent study attempts to examine in order to understand this ratio s
affect on humans (Sakayori et al., 2015). The experiment focuses on trying to understand how an n
6excess/n 3deficient diet in a mother affects their offspring. In the experiment, the wild type (WT)
mice were split up into two groups: control and experimental. In the control group, the mice were fed
a healthy ratio of n 6 PUFAs to n 3 PUFAs, while the experimental group was fed a n 6excess/n
3deficient diet that is similar to the majority of current human diets. These mice were fed their
respective diet before pregnancy, as well as during pregnancy, and the fatty acid content of the ...

Justice Hugo L Black Case The board of education was in Champaign County, Illinois which had let teachers with religious beliefs come into the public schools to provide 30 to 45 minutes of weekly religion instructions for the kids in grades fourth though ninth that was in public schools. Parents had printed cards that they signed authorizing that their children were able to attend these classes, and absences were reported to the school authorities. The ones that did not attend the religious instructions were not excused from any of their regular classes. The teachers were employed by the Champaign Council on religious education at no cost to the schools. They had classes that were offered to the Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish students. The arrangement for the Champaign presents powerful and good elements for the inherent pressure by the school system for the religious sects. The fact that the power has not been used so it can discriminate is so beside the point. Separation is for the government and the religious sects not to be fussing and also the treat them all equally. So that a child be offered an alternative that may reduce the constraint. But somehow the results are an obvious pressure upon a child to attend. Frankfurter continued to explain, that separation means separation, not something less than that. Jefferson s metaphor is use to describe the relation between church and state speaks of this wall of separation, not of a fine line easily overstepped. Public school is at once the symbol of everyone s democracy and the pervasive means for promoting our common destiny. The act of the state is not vital to keep out divisive forces than in its schools, so it can avoid confusion, not to say fusing, the constitution promised to keep strictly ... • 4. The Use Of Pesticides And Growth Hormone Sara Richards Professor Phil 305 Intro: With the world s population continuing to increase, the demand for food is higher than ever. A growing population means more demand on food. The world population will rise to 9.3 billion in 2050 and surpass 10 billion by the end of this century. (Sanyal) This should say something about our growing population that is still continuing to grow to this day. This increase in food demand also calls for more efficient ways of growing and providing food without causing any damage to our environment or our health. Two methods that can be effective for this demand are the organic and conventional method. Decision: Its unethical for conventional farmers to use of pesticides and growth hormone to multiply their products faster and bigger than organic farmers. Meanwhile while these conventional farmers make millions in their products, millions of people are deprived from a healthy diet by choosing to support organic farmers. The reason against the Claim: The influence conventional farmers have on consumers. While many people want to support the organic method because of its known benefits but they also feel that it is just another way to cheat consumers out of their money. However, studies have proven that conventional fruits, vegetables, and even drinks are cheaper than organic. With the world population growing larger and larger we need efficient way to provide food for everyone with reasonable price. Even though it is more efficient to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Survivor s Guilt In The Seventh Man By Haruki Murakami Thousands of people are injured or killed every year during natural disasters. Many people may argue about whether people should feel survivor s guilt or not after going through a life/death situation. Survivor s guilt is when a person has went through a life/death situation and feel guilty about surviving. Survivors of a life/death situations should not feel survivor s guilt One reason survivors of life and death situations should not feel survivor s guilt is because it can keep you from healing. In the short story The seventh man written by Haruki Murakami in paragraph 47 it states ....didn t get married another example is in paragraph 48 Didn t go back for 40 years . This shows that feeling guilty about his life/death situations made his life miserable until he realises it wasn t a big deal. This proves that, in the end survivor s guilt shouldn t affect someone who went through a life and death situation because it wasn t their fault for wanting to live. Another reason why survivors of life/death situations should not feel survivor s guilt is because it is illogical. This is explained in the anchor text The moral logic of survivor guilt by Nancy Sherman. In paragraph 5 it states We often take responsibility in a way the goes beyond what we can be held responsible. This shows that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lizards are a well adapted, variety of species that still contain anatomy from the Mesozoic Era and still are an important part of the ecosystem. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The heart of these reptiles has changed very little, if not at all. Their hearts have three chambers, unlike mammals who have four chambered hearts (Dowling). With it, reptiles have advantages and disadvantages. In the winter a lizard will restrict blood flow through their lungs in order to save energy as they hibernate (Dowling). Having only a three chambered heart puts a large restraint on the amount of heat that is produced inside the body. Similar to those of the past reptiles, lizards will tend to colonize in open areas where there is a large amount of direct sunlight. Direct sunlight will greatly warm a reptile s body so that they can perform their basic metabolic functions with more ease. The blood pressure of a lizard is also very low due to their hearts; as a result, lizards have grown to not need a continuous food supply but still eat in bulk like their predecessor(Dowling). In many cases, lizards that have a diet of an herbivore located in dessert biomes have been found to eat cactus fruit and low growing flowers. • 7. The Cask Of Amontillado By Neil Gaiman The past can tell a lot about someone s life and personality. In literature the use of flashback gives insight to both the characters as well as the plot of the story. Both Neil Gaiman s How to talk to Girls at Parties and Edgar Allen Poe s The Cask of Amontillado show examples of using this literary device and how it affects the story. Not only does the use of flashback give insight to the character s background and motivation ,but also affects both stories in tone and characterization. Neil Gaiman s short story takes place thirty years in the past. Gaiman uses flashback to create tone and suspense. The story begins with two young friends on the way to a party together. However, Gaiman causes the reader to question what will happen later on by interrupting the story saying, I ve not seen Vic for thirty years. I m not sure that I would know what to say to him if I did (228). Both Enn and Vic were great friends; however, Enn stating in the future that him and Vic have not talked or seen each other in thirty years shows that something in the story has caused this riff between them. The application of flashback causes the reader to question what in the story has caused this and gives a sense of uncertainty. This example of flashback also acts as foreshadowing towards the plot. What will happen? How did it change their friendship? Gaiman uses words in past tense such as in my memory (230) and back then (233) . The use of these words and diction used gives the ... • 13. Chapter 58 of Isiah Chapter 58 of Isaiah marks an important change in cultural values due to the humiliation brought about by the Babylonian invasion around the 6th century B.C.E. Gone are the days of good and evil being simply defined as that which coincides with Yahweh s will, and that which doesn t. Now, Isaiah tells the people that simply following the current ways of sacrifice aren t enough, and instead calls for social justice (Chilton, 200), and, in a sense, attempts to invite a return to pre monarchical social structuring. This new morality value system aims to upset the existing post monarchical Israelite social structure, whilst also invigorate a new, post exilic, collective Israelite national identity. Thus, let us begin by examining the political, social, and literary motivations behind this Book. We must first realize that the Book of Isaiah can be divided into three blocks (1 39, 40 55 and 56 66), and each are starkly different in tone, theme, and delivery (Chilton, 189). Chapter 58 belongs to the third block, and thus, does not dabble in the same interplay between doubt and reassurance, and confident, hymnic affirmation in response to the uncertainty of people (Chilton, 198). We can see this new tone clearly in the 4 opening lines. Shout out, do not hold back! Announce to my people their rebellion, to the house of Jacob their sins (Isaiah, 58). When compared against the more emotionally vacillatory first and even the second block of Isaiah, the third block is conveying a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Essay about The Roman Military Reforms institued by Gaius... The hypothesis of this report is that the military reforms instituted by Gaius Marius ultimately paved the way for the fall of the Roman Republic. The reforms instituted by Marius were designed as a way to strengthen the Republic by professionalizing the Roman military, but instead resulted in long term political consequences that contributed to the decline of the Republic and the creation of the Empire. In this report, the decline of the republic specifically refers to the loss of the Senate s authority over Rome s generals. From 112 106 BC, a Numidian king called Jurgurtha was engaged in a war with Rome due to an attempt to seize power from his half brother, Adherbal. As many of these new recruits did not fit in these categories, and were unable to provide their own equipment, Marius arranged for the State to supply them with arms and armour. He then offered the masses a permanent career as professional soldiers, and the opportunity to gain spoils on the campaign. With little hope of gaining status in other ways, the masses flocked to join Marius. The cause of this reform was largely due to recurring recruitment problems faced by the Roman republic, as most soldiers were expected to return to their farms after long campaigns, but since the campaigns were becoming increasingly longer due to the distance of the conflicts from rome, the farms were left deserted and ruined do to prolonged absence of workers. As such, the returning soldiers found themselves without property making them illegible for military service, thus weakening the army. (William G. Sinnigen) As such, Marius believed these deficiencies in the Roman army recruitment system needed urgent attention, and his solution was to offer those with nothing the ability to have everything. Along with the new recruitment system, Marius also improved and enhanced the military training by basing it upon those used and developed by gladiators and also abolished the three different types of soldiers, each armed and positioned by rank and experience, with cohorts of men universally armed and created the use of the eagle as the standard for ... When my medical education began, I immediately knew this was a passion unlike any other I had ever had. At the end of my first semester, I knew that I could either let the mistakes I have made defeat me, or I could use them to my advantage. • 19. What Is The Purpose Of Electromyography Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Studies An electromyogram (EMG) gauges the electrical activity of muscles at rest and during contraction. Nerve conduction studies (NCS) measure how well and how fast the nerves can send electrical signals. The nervous system is a complex, sophisticated system that regulates and coordinates body activities. It is made up of two major divisions: the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (all other neural elements). The brain sends out signals through electrical signals called impulses that control the muscles of the body. Unfortunately, nerve and muscle problems cause the muscles to react in abnormal ways. The purpose of EMG/NCS is to localize where your symptoms are coming from. That can be pain, any kind of numbness and tingling, and/or weakness and the test is also good at assessing the severity of your symptoms. Typically, these studies are ordered when a patient is having some type of nerve symptom: pain, numbness and tingling or a burning sensation, and/or any type of weakness where a person can feel a change in muscle strength. ... Later on, Miller, the author of the Crucible, decided to write the play after he heard what Kazan had to say. The relationship between Kazan and Miller was good at first. (telegraph.co.uk) Miller had a better connection with Marilyn then Kazan and all he thought was that Marilyn would never be successful in her career in wanting to be an actress. Arthur Miller fell in love with Marilyn. Monroe was actually the one to thank for the two s infamous decisions . All three of them were at a party when Marilyn forced the two men to shake hands. After they got over their differences they were once again inseparable. They could have continued working together in the future, but it would have been hard for them to do so because they kept getting bashed for everything they did. It has an organizational culture very different from that of most civilian employers; honoring thy basic tenets of Duty, Honor, and Country. That being said, I work in a tightly organized establishment with strict standards in structure, professionalism, and appearance. In general, the military emphasizes discipline and hierarchy, and even has its own governing body of law (the Uniform Code of Military Justice). The group always takes precedence over the individual and loyalties are developed to the specific branch one resides in. Of the four major theories of organization discussed over the course of the semester, bureaucratic formal organizational theory best describes the military and my organization. Plainly stated, the military operates around specific goals and operations with several interrelated groups (subsystems) governed by clearly defined and enforced rules and norms. While formal organizational theories may seem dated, the military has strong roots in its development. German Sociologist Max Weber created a bureaucratic model with five key components that strongly interrelates with military life and structure. In fact, the military was his prototype. The first element of Weber s theory is that of labor division and functional specialization, where he divides jobs into fixed categories based on competence and functional specialization. • 24. Summary Of The Poem Wish You Were Here Pink Floyd s hit, Wish You Were Here has been recognized as one of the most poetic songs of its decade. With a proper analysis, Roger Waters provides lyrics that allow you to walk away with some interesting perspectives on life s big questions. Though many would argue that the meaning of the song is more literal and personal to the band, the universal meaning would be lost if we were to narrow our focus just on how these lyrics refer to one situation between one set of people at one particular point in time. Roger Waters starts off the song by posing several stacked rhetorical questions which also make use of juxtaposition. The first of which heaven and hell is one of the most common juxtapositions found in literature. the speaker is framing his initial question and all the questions that follow around the idea of telling something good from something bad. this idea echoes throughout the whole first verse with our sense of connotation and the speaker s parallel syntax cluing us in, as to which thing is good and which is bad. That is, the image with the positive connotation always comes first and the image with the negative connotation always comes second. Heaven, blue skies, green field and a smile are all by their nature things to be embraced. On the other hand, hell and pain are intrinsically things to be rejected. A cold steel rail and a veil only take on a negative connotation when they are juxtaposed with a green field and a smile. The sense of Industry and progress ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The Importance Of Public Health And Environmental Problems... The Tijuana Estuary has been affected for many decades from the pollution that is brought by the runoff from the Tijuana watershed. The Tijuana watershed is a large watershed with an area of 1,750 square miles. The Tijuana watershed is a unique watershed in San Diego because three fourths of the watershed is in Mexico where a majority of the runoff flows across the border into the United States where it is discharged into the ocean. The watershed is located in a dry environment that is considered arid and only receives 10 inches of rain annually. A majority of the western basin is made up of developed land while the eastern basin is mostly undeveloped land (The Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve 2014). The Tijuana watershed has a rapid population growth with a majority of the Mexican residents living with insufficient utilities which causes unsanitary conditions and accelerated erosion. Public health and environmental problems occur because Mexico does not have strong environmental policies. Projects to help with these issues have been put into place to help improve water quality. Most of the runoff that is collected in the watershed eventually makes its way into the Tijuana Estuary and along the coastline which can result in economic problems because of beach closures. These areas are also home to many endangered species. Many of the endangered birds that live in the Tijuana estuary feed on plants and small fish that are in and around the watershed. The ... Hormonal elements may also be involved, and the biological issues mentioned could be combined with genetic factors. Efficacious biological management for unipolar depression are electroconvulsive therapy (ECI) and antidepressant drugs such as MAO inhibitors, tricyclics, and second generation antidepressants (Comer, 2005).
