Nutrition Reflection
Nutrition, was the topic for Unit 2 and I must admit, it was pretty interesting. I thought that this unit was
going to be more of taking notes, but no it was more of learning how to eat healthier, how having a bad
habit of eating bad foods too much can be belligerent to our own lives. Exercising is a very important
thing to do, at least 30 minutes 1 hour can help improve our personal health. Also I learned that being
overweight, or obese can be a cause of many deaths around the world, and especially today, since we
like bigger stuff, we want the bigger stuff. I also learned that since not only the U.S is the one with
health problems, their is more countries with this problem, and we have to watch what we eat on a daily
basis, since we can get diabetes, cholesterol, or any type of harmful diseases. I also learned how to work
better with a group of people, and having to be assigned a job within the group, I know that working in a
group will take commitment, and working with others will make you make time to work with your
group, so everything can go well once you go present. I was happy to know that my group would do
their work, and that we knew what to say when the time came to present.
During this Unit 2 of Nutrition, I know how to be vigilant in what I eat on the daily basis, even now. I
think twice when I m going to eat, or when I m at a restaurant, I have to see what I m going to order, and
how much I m going to order. Since we also talked about the sugary drinks, I m

Male Dominance In The Color Purple Research Paper
Male Dominance in The Color Purple
In the 1900s, the father figure in the average family played a humongous part on the way people went
about their daily lives. Women had few rights and the males were considered the most important role in
a female s life. Often the power held by males were taken advantage of. The Color Purple is a book
based in 1900s and it describes how an average black female went in that time period. It also exhibits
many hardships caused by dominant male roles. The main character Celie goes through many ups and
downs as does her step son Harpo, and Harpo s wife Sophia. In The Color Purple, by Alice Walker, the
violent actions committed by dominant male roles affect others emotions and reactions through the
characters Celie, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The novel introduces the troubles of the main character Celie immediately. He never had a kine word to
say to me...then he push his thing inside my pussy...I cry (Walker 1). In the very beginning of the book,
Celie is raped by someone who she refers to as Pa. Then, it says that she gets beat. He beat me today
cause I winked at a boy...I didn t wink...I don t even look at mens...I look at women, tho, cause I m not
scared of them (Walker 5). Through Celie s words, Walker shows one of the first effects in a female s
life when a dominant man abuses his power. Celie s traumatic experiences with men effects her; she is
so used to being abused by men that it causes her to be scared of them. The second effect the traumatic
experience caused Celie is numbness. When Celie gets beaten or raped she describes it as making
herself a tree or doing his business and not feeling anything at all (Walker 23). And, according to the
Joyful Heart Foundation, one of the common emotional effects of rape is numbness and fear (Joyful
Heart Foundation). So, when Celie is beaten, instead of defending herself, she does not do anything
unlike other characters in the novel. Celie tends to act submissive and accept everything that comes to

Pete Rose And The Hall Of Fame
My controversial topic is on Pete Rose and how he should be inducted into Baseball s Hall of Fame.
Pete Rose was a player that I looked up to when I was a young boy playing baseball. I was a big fan of
his collecting all of his baseball cards from rookie year up to the present time. Now, most of the baseball
critics and others do not want Pete Rose inducted. They claim that his illegal betting on baseball games
should keep him out of the Hall of Fame.
Almost all of the highly questionable evidence that Commissioner Bart Giamatti held was derived from
former friends and associates of Rose. Up to $30,000 per day , so some of Roses close friends say.
These former friends of Rose are Tommy Gioiosa, Donald Stenger, Mike Fry, and Paul Janszen. This
evidence is what prompted the banishment from baseball of Pete Rose, which he signed. The evidence
was enough for the Commissioner. In 1989, baseball s Commissioner Bart Giammati suspended Pete
Rose from association with professional baseball for life for gambling. Rose also spent five months in a
minimum security prison for tax evasion in 1990. He did not report cash money he accepted for signing
baseballs and photographs at baseball card shows. It is still to this day not proven that Rose did bet on
the baseball team that he was managing. Rose himself still holds true to his statement that he never bet
on the game of baseball. Evidence is minimal and it has been over ten years, yet he is still ineligible to
be voted into

Facial Recognition Pros And Cons
Facial recognition is a technological product of the digital age that is continuing to evolve. The
efficiency of the technology is an asset to crime detectives apprehending criminals, or the government
tracking suspected terrorists for the safety of the country. It can also be used on a corporate level to
allow a business to understand their ideal customer, or to increase the intractability of their website.
While these abilities are positives to the people using them, the data collection may be harming more
than it is helping. Considering the benefits of facial recognition, it is important for people to see what
they are giving up for a more efficient experience. Facial recognition technology forces users to
relinquish control of their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the course of this past year, body cameras are becoming increasingly popular with police officers
in the United States. This is in response to the public s outrage with unlawful police force. Recently,
companies that manufacture such bodycams announced plans to include facial recognition software. The
data collected from the cameras would be in the hands of the police for a minimum of 18 months,
depending on the incident recorded (Chapman). While this could initially be seen as a positive method
to identifying and arresting an active suspect, there is a question of privacy of control when it comes to
this matter. This is an invasion of privacy for the citizens caught on camera that are not involved in an
incident nor have a criminal record. These cameras are often worn during protests, both peaceful and
not, capturing everyday citizens speaking their thoughts and ideas. A concern that exists is if the police
will use the data collected from the cameras to unlawfully monitor participants (Chapman). This would
inevitably discourage participation in these gatherings and take control from peaceful citizens and give
too much control to police officers. There is also no guarantee that the footage will not be used for other
purposes that the public is not yet aware of. There is no U.S. federal law at the moment that directly
protects the privacy of American citizens from the potential surveillance using facial recognition,
(Chapman). The fact that there is no balancing system for the rights of United States citizens may lead
law enforcement to take advantage of their freedom and use the technology inappropriately and
excessively. The development of this technology is growing so quickly that legislature has not
accounted for the

The Progressive Era And The New Deal
Despite existing during two different times in the history of the United States, it can be argued that the
New Deal reforms reflected the reform traditions of the Progressive Era. When examining the New
Deal, Progressive influence is evident based first off of the social and political issues addressed by
reforms. Second, the reforms from the two times themselves are uncannily similar, again due to the
focus on the same problems existing in the United States. In addition to this, the icing on the cake is
found when examining President Roosevelt s administration during the New Deal, a majority of which
were intelligent Progressive reformers during the Progressive Era. Because of this, the New Deal
reflected the reform traditions of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite having differentiating reasons behind their reforms, the New Deal and the Progressive Era
focused on the same issues, which is evident in the similarity of their reforms. As we already know from
the aforementioned information, both the Progressive Era and New Deal had a focus on similar issues,
specifically the rights of laborers, the improvement and expansion of public facilities, and the
limitations of corporate power. Reforms during the Progressive era reflected these values, as seen in the
work accomplished by Samuel Jones, President Taft, and President Wilson. Jones, a Progressive mayor
in Toledo, Ohio ...founded night schools and free kindergartens, built new parks, and supported the right
of workers to unionize (Give Me Liberty 699) in an effort to improve public resources. President Taft
one of the presidents during the Progressive era implemented antitrust laws which attacked corporations
influence by limiting the power of the wealthy, either through taxation or prosecution of antitrust
violators. In addition to this, President Wilson reinforced antitrust laws while passing legislation which
empowered laborers through exempting labor unions from antitrust laws, banning child labor in certain
labor markets, and enforcing an eight hour work day on the nation s railroads. Coincidentally, the New

Reproducibility In Science Is As Important As Any New...
Reproducibility in science is as important as any new hypothesis or discovery. Currently, many
practitioners believe there is a reproducibility crisis. Despite that scientists conduct sound research,
reproducibility is still very low. In my opinion, irreproducible research should be well considered as a
part of enhanced knowledge since, in part, nature tends to be chaotic and hence irreproducible. Better
controls in the research process, however, can improve comprehension and utility of research results.

Although irreproducible results may not be readily applicable, it does not necessarily mean that they are
a waste of time, resources or opportunities. Suggestions for enhanced reproducibility are also
highlighted. Insights are mainly biased to natural rather than engineered systems.
The complexity of natural systems
In view of Heisenberg s principle of uncertainty, is it actually possible to reproduce/recapture both
quantity and temporal profile from experiment to experiment or from one individual to another? 19.
Natural systems may have obvious structural and organizational principles. On the other hand, spatial
and temporal interactions between external and internal sub components, them too chaotic11,16 to be
understood by independently studying isolated components. Therefore, depending on the state the
system and the ability of the researcher to isolate and control all confounding factors, many research
results may turn out to be extremely context specific. In proteomic studies, for example, proteins are
extraordinarily sensitive to environmental changes besides variation in sample preparation protocols and
instrumentation 6,19. Proteomic profiles also differ not only from one individual to another but also
from one moment to the next19,20. Yet similar stochastic, unique or rare effects are of crucial
importance in many biological processes. The fact that studies

Essay on Introduction to Drosophila Genetics
INTRODUCTION TO DROSOPHILA GENETICS
DROSOPHILA CULTURE We will study basic principles of Mendelian inheritance with the use of the
fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster [the name means black bodied fruit lover ]. Drosophila was one of the
first organisms to be studied genetically: its small size, short life cycle (10 ~14 days at 25oC), high
reproductive rate (an adult female can lay 400 500 eggs in 10 days), and ease of culture and genetic
manipulation have made it perhaps the best understood animal genetic system. Many different species,
and a large number and wide variety of naturally occurring and artificially induced genetic variants are
available. The partial genetic map in Appendix B describes the location of all the mutations used in ...

Thus, the genotype of a wild type homozygote would be designated e +e + (or ++), a mutant
homozygote ee, and a heterozygote e +e or e+ [Use of the term wild type derives from an early
assumption that most flies are homozygous for a standard , usually dominant, allele. As we will see, this
is not the case, but the terminology is still used]. It is important to remember that not all mutants are
recessive. A mutation that is dominant to the wild type is symbolized by a capital letter. For example, the
typical eye shape is round. One mutant produces a narrow bar eye : the allele is dominant, symbolized
by a capital letter B, and the wild type (round) eye is B+.

GENETIC CROSSES An X is used to indicate that two individuals have been mated together. The
parents are designated as P (for parental) and the offspring as F (for filial). When several generations are
involved, subscripts are added to designate the generations. P1 give rise to F1 (first filial) progeny. If the
F1 are crossed together they become P2 and their progeny F2. A cross between members of the F1 and
members of the P1 is a backcross. A cross between members of the F1 and the true breeding recessive
P1 is a test cross. MONOHYBRID CROSS The simplest form of a cross is a monohybrid cross, which
analyses a single trait and its associated variations. The diagram below shows the

Essay The history of video games
In the beginning........
The first real video game was made in 1958, by a physicist named William Higginbotham. It is a table
tennis like game and is played on an oscilloscope, a device used for visual displays. While some big
name games, company s, and events have yet to happen, this is what sparked the video game interest.
These paragraphs will guide you through the many years of games. Lets a go!!
Early years (1961 1972)
Things start off when the first interactive computer game SpaceWars (made in 1961) is visited by the
eventual founders of Atari Nolan Bushnell Ted Dabney attempt to make an arcade version of the game
in 1970. In 1971 they succeed, but the public finds it too hard to play. In 1972, a console ... Show more

companies Atari will have to compete with. Let s see how long Atari will last.
Hits and misses, plus a crash. (1981 1984)
To start off, we go 1981, the beginning of the first video game magazine, Electronic games, made by
Arnie Katz and Bill Kunkle. 1982 introduces the Atari 5200. The next year is much more eventful. It
starts off with a video game market crash, and several companies go bankrupt. However, there is good
news and its name is Nintendo. The Japanese company is not willing to release the Nintendo
Entertainment System (NES) in America because Atari rules a large part of the market. Instead, they
decide to offer Atari the rights to release the product in the U.S. The plans fall through and we do not
see Nintendo until 1985.
Consoles galore!!! (1985 89)
If the title didn t give it away, there will be a lot of new devices to play on, plus a now game only
company that made a lot of consoles before it went game only will be introduced. So back on the
timeline........... We start off at 1985 where a Russian programmer named Alex Pajitnov makes the
popular game, Tetris. As said above, the NES is released. If you want to play some of its games now, try

Sildenafil Jelly Research Paper
Many people find it difficult to swallow a pill. They often feel that they can choke on the pill or simply
suffer from a mental block when it comes to taking oral medicines. We recognise the problems of such
patients and therefore, recommend that these patients need to find alternative methods to take the
required medicines. Take the example of patients who are suffering from erectile dysfunction. The
inability to have a hard on can really decrease the confidence of the patients who are suffering from this
condition. They are certainly in need of a strong intervention. One of the best ways to get medicine is to

Theme Of Gender In Pride And Prejudice And Hard Times
This paper seeks to examine the variations in the construction and depiction of the female characters in
the novels, Pride and Prejudice and Hard Times, written by Jane Austen and Charles Dickens
respectively. Keeping in mind the specific historical circumstances, social positions and gender
identities of the authors, this paper will explore the various factors that determine the portrayal of
women and the roles that they play in the family and the larger society in the aforementioned novels. It
will also analyze the female characters of these novels to further understand the influence of such socio
economic factors on the representation of women by two of the greatest writers of 19th century England.

Class distinctions and gender roles in the Regency and Victorian eras were centered on a very rigid
social structure. This is the world that forms the basis of Austen s novels. The daughter of an esteemed
Reverend, Austen was herself a part of the landed gentry and she hence limited the focus of her novels
to characters that lived lives similar to hers and that were located in an extremely selective world that
was easily accessible to her. The lives of the women of the Regency period, including that of Austen,
were orchestrated around certain gender expectations which ordained that they live in the shadow of
men and be disempowered. Men were meant to be financially empowered by means of the money that
they earned through their occupation or inherited through ancestral funds. The social structure was
hierarchical and it lacked social mobility, whereby the aristocratic upper classes and middle classes,
ruled by their separate set of values and expectations, rarely mingled with each other. Austen
intelligently and truthfully represents these values in her novels that focus on mannerisms, social
communication, conduct and courtship. Shampa Roy, in her essay Gender and Genre, describes Austen s
style as containing a fine understanding of feminine identity, romantic desire and gender relations as
shaped by the social context. (pg

Analyzing “A Worn Path” by Eudora Welty
Analyzing A Worn Path by Eudora Welty In the story A Worn Path , Eudora Welty shows an old woman
living in a time period where racial prejudice is very high and out of control. Phoenix Jackson is a
grandmother whose motivation for living seems to be to nurture her grandson back to health. The
strength of love may make people do or say unusual and implausible things. The central idea of this
story is that love can empower someone to overcome many life threatening obstacles. This idea is
shown when an old woman conquers all odds against her to show her everlasting love for her grandson.

The grandson may be too young to realize what his grandmother is doing for his safety. The
empowerment of love in this situation enables Phoenix to put aside her fatigue and to continue with her
journey. This story made me believe that no matter what happens, Phoenix will hold her principles to
make her journey. To continue, the social obstacles that she faces on her journey are perhaps the most
difficult to overcome. One of these obstacles is that Phoenix Jackson lives a life of poverty. She accepts
charity, but knows that s what she must do to survive. She takes a nickel from the man in the field and
she also accepts money from the nurse at the clinic. Another social obstacle is that she is illiterate. This
makes it very difficult and embarrassing at the clinic because she does not know how to read the
prescription of the medicine. Instead she has to look for a gold emblem of the doctor s office that helps
her recognize the right medicine. The third social hindrance is again her old age. People she encounters
on her journey are very condescending towards her and have no respect for her. The hunter in the field
mocks her by pointing a gun at her, while laughing at her. The nurse s attendant scorns her because she
does not feel comfortable talking in the office. All these social obstacles are as a result of her race.

think about how Cutie may have felt. Another example is when Donovan to check up on the robots. The
robots were not doing anything. Cutie explained how he believed the Master created them. Donovan

conclusion, Asimov showed how human s fear based on assumptions and how human s react in anger
when someone does not agree with them. Powell and Donovan had nothing to worry about. Cutie and
his robots were going to do their jobs. The law of robotics prevented the robots from taking over. The
readers learn that as humans we should be more open minded and look at things from others

Summary Of Videotape By Don Delillo
How can we determine what s real? The mass media were once thought of as holding up a mirror to, and
thereby reflecting, a wider social reality. Now that reality is only definable in terms of surface reflection
of the mirror was once said by Dominic Strinati (1992). The short fiction, Videotape, was written by
Don DeLillo in 1997 published in one of his novels Underworld (1997). The themes of postmodernism
and how the role of mass media forms false representation, resulting in changes of the meaning behind
events, is centered on the story Videotape . The impact of media attracts the society to postmodernism
with the obsession of violence. Don DeLillo was influenced by several historical events surrounding
him such as the Vietnam war, John F. Kennedy Assassination, the Civil War Rights, and the revolts that
occurred afterwards. The material in his novels are described as, Living with the dangerous times
(Nance, Web). Don DeLillo was born on November 20, 1936 in Bronx, New York. He didn t grow up
with an interest in writing until his teenage years, where he began reading during a summer job. The
first novel he has ever written was called Americana, which was finally published in 1971. The story,
Videotape, demonstrates that the society is centered on death and violence through media because it is
viewed as more realistic than the actual event. One of the key points in the story is that the accessibility
of technology creates realism, which portrays daily life

Essay On Truman s Controversial Decision
On August 6th, 1945, a US B 29 bomber took off from an air base, carrying a package that would
forever change the nature of war and be a subject of debate throughout the rest of the century. At
approximately 9:15am, a large, mushroom shaped cloud rose over Hiroshima, Japan. The first atomic
bomb had been used in combat. The surrender of Japan a week later marked the end of a long struggle
for freedom, democracy, and peace. At the same time, it marked a change in the nature of war. American
President Harry Truman s controversial decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan ended the Second
World War and began the nuclear age. Since the end of the war, Truman s decision has been a subject of
debate, largely due to the high civilian death toll that resulted from the bombings. However, the context
of the time period and the need to end the Second World War made the use of the nuclear weapons a
necessary action to force the surrender of Japan. Truman s decision to use the atomic bomb against
Japan was justified by the historical context of the Second World War and Japan s refusal to surrender
unconditionally. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were justified in the historical context of the

Canada s Immigration Act And System
Each year lots of new migrants enter the Canadian economy therefore Canada has been classified as a
multi cultural country, and due to this our citizens are more socially and globally aware of what is going
on around them. Canada s immigration Act and system helps our country be more culturally diverse, it
increases economic growth, and make s Canada a safer place to be which we can call our home. Along
with new migrants coming every year, therefore ethnic communities are massively increasing by
population and size.
The Tamil community is a relatively new group. Some Tamils settled in Canada as early as the 1960s,
coming as independent immigrants. The vast majority, however, arrived in Canada after 1983 in the
aftermath of the 1983 Colombo riots in Sri Lanka. In 1983, the Canadian government took Tamils into
Canada under humanitarian and compassionate consideration. At the same time, a visa requirement was
imposed on Sri Lankans, making it very difficult to get here legally. In 1986, Minister s permits were
granted to some refugees allowing them to remain in Canada. Today Tamils continue to make up one of
the largest group of refugees seeking asylum in Canada. Ten percent of the persons seeking asylum in
Canada in 1999 originated from Sri Lanka. The majority of population has made Toronto its new home

blood on the floor. They follow this trail down the stairs into the basement where the smell becomes
overwhelming, causing some of the officers to gasp and run back up the stairs. In the basement, they
find the remains of several young boys who have been molested and badly mutilated. What could cause
someone to participate in such horrendous deeds? What sort of person is able to perform such wicked
acts? Serial killers always have aroused the curiosity and concern of the public. People seem to be both

The second key characteristic of most serial killers is an overwhelming need for control. Women and
children are often targeted because they are seen as weak and easily dominated figures. Killers will tie
their victims up with ropes or chains and watch them helplessly struggle to free themselves. They may
also torture them and watch as their pleas for freedom fall upon deaf ears. Many killers are demented
and exhibit signs of future violence at a very early age. Society often turns to the upbringing of the killer
for answers. Many killers speak of their childhoods being full of sexual abuse, torture, and mayhem
(Scott). In his book Serial Killers, Joel Norris speaks of violence as something that cycles from
generation to generation: Parents who abuse their children, physically as well as psychologically, instill
in them an almost instinctive reliance upon violence as a first resort to any challenge. Childhood abuse
not only spawns violent reactions, but also affects the child s health, including brain injuries,
malnutrition, and other developmental disorders (49 50). Violence early in life may lead to these
undesirable tendencies to abuse and kill. Parents often believe that strict discipline will help the
individual grow up to be strong, but it, in turn, creates a gap between the child and the parents. The child
does not feel loved or wanted. This may

Is Bromden Dehumanize In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
In Kesey s novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, the narrator, Bromden, has a very vivid and
disturbing dream of the hospital as a slaughterhouse where the staff hang old Blastic on a meat hook and
cut him open. A bit of the horrifying dream is shown when Bromden describes, The worker takes the
scalpel and slices up the front of old Blastic with a clean swing and the old man stops thrashing around.
I expect to be sick, but there s no blood...just a shower of rush and ashes... (Kesey 88). Symbolism of
machinery is shown throughout the gruesome dream and specifically ash and rust pours out of old
Blastic. The symbolism shown is the hospital as place that dehumanizes the patients and turns them into
mechanical patients, taking away their uniqueness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Kesey s novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoos s Nest, McMurphy is the protagonist. Kesey throughout
the book has depicted McMurphy of trying to pull the patients out of the fog. Bromden s perception of

fool can see; I wouldn t do it on my own (Kesey 142). This takes place when McMurphy is trying to get
the chronics to vote for the time of watching TV to be changed. Although this is before Bromden
realizes he voted because of his own free will, Bromden sees McMurphy s attempts to pull them out of
the fog as troubling, as it will increase tensions between the patients and Big Nurse. McMurphy
perceives his attempts to pull the other patients out of the fog as vital, this is show when he is trying to
get the chronics to vote for the time change to watch TV and he says, One of you guys for cryin out
loud! This is where you get the edge, don t you see that? We have to do this... (Kesey 142). As the only
one in the hospital that is different and still actually laughs, Mc Murphy still has his individuality and
sees the control that the Big Nurse is keeping over the patients. In recognizing this and the
dehumanization that the other patients have gone through, McMurphy constantly tries to pull the
patients out of the fog, seeing that Big Nurse will have no power if they all retaliate against her. At the

The Scientific Method Of Experimental Testing
Answer #1
Scientific Method
The scientific method can be defined as a technique for research where the problem is known,
appropriate data is gathered, a hypothesis is formulated from the data, and the hypothesis is tested
firsthand. Gauch (2003) defines the scientific method as a highly variable and creative process and
states that it is often misrepresented as a fixed sequence of steps although the scientific method of
research has four steps. The first step is the observation, which serves as an act of recognizing and
noting a fact or occurrence often involving measurement with instruments. The second step is the
hypothesis, which is a tentative assumption made to draw out and test its logical and empirical
consequences. The third step is experimental testing, which is when you apply a test to analyze or
diagnose. The fourth step is predictions, which is when you declare or indicate in advance or predict the
basis of observation, experience, or scientific reason.

The Impact Of Transgenders In The Military
One of the big questions lurking in the United States is if transgenders can serve in the military. As of
right now they are temporarily not allowing transgenders into the military. If they were to allow them
there would be many things that they would have to look at. There is things like where would they live
to how would be treated. They would have to decide what they would want to do with the ones currently
serving. There s just many factors to look at when trying to decide when something like transgenders are
becoming so popular in a society like ours today.
It all started in 2016 when Barack Obama let transgenders to enroll in the military. Before this time there
wasn t any problem with transgender because it just started to become a thing in 2016. Barack Obama
signed a policy in 2014 that banned people who were openly gay, lesbian, and bisexuals from being in
the military. There was never anything about transgenders.
In 2015 things began to change, they now made it so that transgenders could serve. Joe Biden put his
input in on what he thought about the situation. He argued that they should be able to serve. He said in a
conference that he didn t want to anger anyone currently serving that is transgender. A study was made
to see how big of an impact that transgenders would have on the military. They made the prediction that
they would cost little and have no significant impact on unit readiness. In 2016 they made it so that
transgenders would no longer be separated

Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP) is common in the first trimester of pregnancy, it can be an

Both men and women can feel anxiety of parenthood and when woman are having symptoms of NVP
this can result in absent work time, incomplete daily routines, managing to see friends or family and
caring for other children in the home. Pregnant women can be left feeling exhausted and unhappy, this
can then have some negative effects on family relationships, and some couples connections can feel
strained. If the woman is working she may also need to tell her employer about the pregnancy, this may
possibly be earlier then the women would have liked too. Generally this can be hard for some women.
Asking for help is also difficult as a result of this women can become stressed, which can lead to sleep
deprivation. Nausea can become worse if women are not getting adequate time for rest. Whilst women
feel unwell they may experience some weight loss, this is not uncommon especially if women can not
keep any food or fluids down. Weight gain will increase once the women can eat normally again, if
women feel unsettled about weight loss they can talk to a dietitian who may suggest specific
supplements.
It is unknown what the exact underlying pathophysiology of NVP is but it s believed to be multifactorial
and includes endocrine, gastrointestinal, cultural, psychosocial and environmental factors. Reduced

Self Regulation And Effective Learning Essay
Much research has shown the necessity for students to learn the behaviors that make up self regulation
to learn successfully and be most effective in their personal and professional lives. Self regulation refers
to one s ability to monitor their own behaviors, assess those behaviors based on their own standards, and
provide punishments and reinforcements for those behaviors accordingly. In the experience of these
authors, students increasingly enter classes lacking essential behaviors necessary for self regulation and
effective learning. Instructors must first understand self regulation and how it affects the learning
process, as well as provide students the necessary tools to achieve self regulation; however, these
authors believe the path to self regulation begins from the first moment of contact with students. A
classroom environment in which students feel comfortable, clearly understand expectations and receive
timely responses allows students to gain confidence and trust the instructor. This type of environment
sets the tone for the instructor then to share, model and shape strategies in students leading to self
regulation.
Introduction Social learning theory introduced the crucial concept of self regulation, which refers to the
ability to monitor one s own behavior, judge the behavior based on one s own standards, and institute
consequences of reinforcement or punishment. The ability to self regulate is made of many strategies
that once learned, can be

The Similarities Of Films Who Does Not Love A Great...

Intro to Cinema
Professor Lee
December 6, 2016
The Similarities of Films Who does not love a great comedy film. I know that comedy is my favorite
genre. When thinking about comedies or comedians one person comes to mind, Will Ferrell. In some
people s opinion he is the best comedian actor. Will Ferrell just so happen to be in a comedy partnership
with director Adam McKay. McKay is responsible for over 20 films. There are three films that I am
particularly fond of The Other Guys, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and Step Brothers.
Ā Adam McKay does not single handedly write his movies. Like I said, he and Ferrell are in a
partnership and co write movies together. Adams movies tend to be a mean or not appropriate for
children. When did comedies start saying four letter words every other sentence. The times have
changed that is for sure. I would be lying if I said I was shocked. I would also be lying if I said I had no
taste, or judgment of comic strategy. Because, like I said I am very fond of these movies. Adam s films
have a lot in common including his own partner. Will Ferrell plays the main character in most of McKay
s films. In fact, he is the main character in all three of the films that I have chosen. So it may that I just
like movies with Will Ferrell. Adam McKay has a tendency to starting off his movies with a quote, and
of course he works with Will.

Lake Bellville Essay
The family lived on Lake Bellville in a wood framed house. The slope that led to the lake was not steep

Persuasive Essay On Technology-Based Education
John Dewey said, If we teach today s students as we taught yesterday s, we rob them of tomorrow. This
sparks the very controversial debate on if schools should initiate technology based education throughout
their campus or stick with the traditional textbooks. The idea of change has always caused great
controversy throughout the world and education is no exception. To have a better understanding on this
issue there are many facts on both sides to look into. One of the major reasons people side with the
continuation of textbooks is the many health concerns that come with technology. Technology is known
for causing many eye, neck, and back issues. New York Daily News reported that a condition called
CVS, computer vision syndrome, is common with people who use technology on a day to day basis (1).
The AOA, American Optometric Association, stated that symptoms of this condition include: eyestrain,
headaches, blurred vision, and dry eyes ( NYDN, 1). This is caused by continuous time spent in front of
an electronic screen, such as a tablet or computer. The article also reports of neck strain and pain in the
shoulders, hands, or arms (1). Because of these many health risks that are caused by using technology,
many people are concerned with technology based education.
Another major reason many people give for not switching to technology based education is the cost. Lee
Wilson states, It will cost a school 552% more to implement iPad textbooks than it does to deploy books

Why Civilizations Fall
There have been many civilizations throughout history. Obviously they re not all around anymore, this
shows that all civilizations have to fall eventually, but how?
Civilizations have been around the world for a long time, this is because all societies have to fall. The
main reason they fall is because of the misuse of resources, the corruption of a leader, and tension
between different classes/communities in the civilization. There are several different examples of these
things corrupting civilizations. Overall, there are many different reasons civilization fall, but the main
reason are the corruptio of a leader, the misuse of resources, and tension between the different

In Rome, they would often have poor leaders. The leaders would not address the problems the people
were dealing with, they were out of sight, and out of mind . Inheritance of the title of Emperor was
unstable; this led to power struggles, violence, and insecurity. (Manitoba k12 student notebook) When
people inherited the crown, that weren t ready for it, the leader would be seen as corrupted. In Easter
Island, the people had absolutely no power. And while this may not necessarily be a bad thing, the
leaders on Easter Island made decisions based on how they would be directly affected, and not on how
the people of the island would be affected. In the past, some people on Easter Island, namely the ruling
class, were able to destroy other people and their homes, but now some societies can destroy everything
(Peter Tyson) This ability to destroy other people and their homes seems to be a downscaled version of
the world currently. In Nazi Germany, Hitler, like all dictators, got into the government by making
decisions that the people like. But once he got into the government, he abused his power to do things
that didn t help the general public, only who he wanted to help. Once firmly in power, the leader of this
society began planning for the ending of the struggle between the different races of the society. (Secret
Society #1) This end of struggle was him eliminating them completely... That s definitely corruption if I
ve ever seen it. Probably the reason with the most catastrophic results in civilizations. Stories of
corrupted leaders in civilizations are the most horrific and memorable. This reason will probably never

Blood Red Snow, by Gunter K. Koschorrek is a graphic rendition of the German War in the Eastern
front, which began in 1942. Koschorrek is a former German soldier who kept a frequent account of his
experience in the steppes of Russia and the advancement of the German battalion in Stalingrad. Written
as a memoir, Koschorrek s writing serves as a first hand account of the tank and cavalry warfare in the
Eastern front. Rather than glorifying the heroic aspects of death and destruction in war, Koschorrek s
strives to give a realistic account of the bitter struggle and retreat of the German army during World War

The production focuses on the period before and during Koschorrek s station in Stalingrad and places
Hitler s decision for a two front war in a historical context. The documentary covers the massive success
of Operation Barbarossa , Hitler s artillery barrage strategy in 1941 up until the retreat of the German
army in 1943. Hitler Turns East tells the audience how the German army ultimately failed despite its
initial success. Although the German army quickly and powerfully dissolved Soviet defenses, the Red
Army bought the German troops to a standstill. These aspects of the documentary are clearly accounted
by Koschorrek in far more, firsthand detail in his memoir. The Soviet Army continually drives the
German troops from their positions and this is specifically shown in Koschorrek s entry of November
20th and December 13th 1942. Stationed along the Don, a river running along Stalingrad, Koschorrek
records the Russians have also broken through, Romanian lines in the south, and are coming at us from
both sides, trying to take us in a pincer movement . The documentary specifically remarks on the pincer
strategy of the Soviet troops, a method that attempts to encircle and surround troops but cutting off
defense lines at both sides. The documentary also remarks on the involvement of Romanian troops
while Koschorreck goes into more detail of their social behavior (as soldiers) rather than

Aim: The experiment aims to compare the reactivity of halogens by studying their displacement by one

The aqueous/denser layer settles at the bottom. Leaving the less dense cyclohexane on the top layer.
2. What was the purpose of cyclohexane in this practical?
Halogens are not very soluble in water because they are non polar, but are soluble in cyclohexane. Using
solvent extraction with cyclohexane, halogens can be separated from the halide ions allowing them to be
easily identified.
Conclusions The general reactivity of halogens and their ability to form ionic compounds decreases
down the group. This is influenced by increased size, electronegativity, and nuclear charge; therefore the
ease with which electrons are accepted to form an ion also decreases. As observed from the results of the

Aristotelian mimesis dictates that the art produced by our culture and society is an imitation of our
reality. If so, then our contemporary entertainment era overstocked in brooding, morally ambiguous anti
heroes bearing five o clock shadows and dark and gritty narratives are a reflection of the flawed and
unrelenting modern day reality that we inhabit. This age of morally gray storytelling is a stark contrast
to the idealistic depictions of American society and traditional family values found throughout various
1950s television (Museum of Broadcast Communications). The force behind this shift from a rather
jubilant, dreamlike state of Cold War era media, to the grim and cynical state of present day film,
television, and music can thus be interpreted by some romanticists with a longing for the good ol days as
a decline of virtues and goodness in American society. However, the goodness of America found in
1950s media was hardly a true reflection of reality. Through the further development of mass media and
communications in the following decades, however, American audiences were then able to see passed
the goodness from the shelter of their own homes (Murray). The realities that went into the lenses of
news cameras, and out the screens of black and white television tubes exposed the horrors of war in
Vietnam and the injustice towards nonviolent Black protestors to the archetypical nuclear families of
America, distorting their idealized perceptions of American

The Disease Of Gluten Intolerance
People with schizophrenia can be highly vulnerable due to the debilitating symptoms of their illness, the
discrimination they experience from medical providers, and their high rates of disease comorbidities,
like gluten intolerance, that may further debilitate functioning if left untreated. Since the 1950s, higher
rates of gluten intolerance have been observed in people with schizophrenia compared to the general
population. Diseases of gluten intolerance generally consist of either celiac disease (CD) or non celiac
gluten sensitivity (NCGS). CD occurs in about 1% of the general population and is a hereditary,
autoimmune response triggered by the ingestion of proteins known as gluten that are found in common
grains like wheat, barley, and rye (Cascella et al., 2011). CD is typically diagnosed by confirming the
presence of gluten antibodies in the blood, testing for the presence of certain immune system genes
known as Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLAs), and confirmation of atrophied villi cells in the small
intestine ( How Is Celiac Diagnosed? 2016). For CD patients, atrophy of the small intestine leads to
nutrient malabsorption and an increased permeability of both the intestinal wall and potentially the
blood brain barrier, which may contribute to extra intestinal immune responses that cause the immune
system to attack other organs and tissues (Cascella, 2011). In addition to CD, Non Celiac Gluten
Sensitivity (NCGS) is a form of gluten intolerance where atrophied villi are

What Role Did Roden Play In The Theology Of The Davidians
Houteff bought a plot of land and moved outside Waco, Texas, bringing just under a hundred followers
with him and thereby establishing the Davidian sect. They built a variety of buildings and named the
location Mount Carmel after the mount where Elijah overcame the prophets of Baal. On a side note, this
Mount Carmel was different from the one involved in the Branch Davidian inferno. Houteff did not
want to break away from the Seventh day Adventism and continued to view his evangelistic message as
directed to the Adventist church. Seventh day Adventism continued to play a major role in the theology
of the Davidians though their relationship was bitter. The Davidian sect grew and although Houteff died
in 1955, his wife Florence became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roden affirmed the leadership of Victor and Ellen White and especially the need for a righteous
remnant. Roden is responsible for the adoption of the name Branch, claiming it as the new name of
Christ according to Isaiah 11:1. The Davidians, under Roden, became the Branch Davidians. Roden
implemented observance of Old Testament festivals, which wasn t a big leap from strict Sabbath
practice. He was also incredibly passionate about Israel and attempted to establish a group of Davidians
within Israel. If they were able to move the Davidians to Israel, they would be one step closer to the
millennium and their final earthly dwelling place. Under Roden, Branch Davidians believed that the
truth of God would proceed from Jerusalem and since they contained the truth of God, it was necessary
that they move to Israel. Unfortunately, Roden s dream was never completely actualized and upon his
death in 1978, his wife Lois Roden assumed leadership of the Branch Davidians. Unlike Florence
Houteff, Lois Roden received visions prior to the death of her husband and was even considered a
prophetess, whereas Florence was just considered the leader. As the prophetic voice of the Branch
Davidians, she formulated new theology, the most important being that the Holy Spirit is feminine.
According to her, the notion of Father and Son in the

The Second Set of Doors at the Baptistery
The maintenance and completion of the Baptistery of San Giovanni, one of the oldest and most
significant buildings in Florence, was entrusted to the Arte del Calimala Guild. This wool merchants
guild was the oldest of Florentine guilds and was extremely powerful and wealthy. This wealth and
power was due in large part to the fact that Florence was the fabric capitol of Italy. The Baptistery was
dedicated to Florence s patron saint John the Baptist. Consequently, the first set of doors created by
Andrea Pisano in 1336 depicted scenes from the life of Saint John the Baptist and was installed on the
east or main entrance side. Plans for the other two sets of doors were delayed because of the economic
crash, political unrest, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Documents indicate that Ghiberti and his stepfather, Bartolo di Michele, signed the contract together.
The contract stated that Ghiberti must complete three panels a year. However after several years only
four panels were finished, this was due to the number of commissions Ghiberti was working on at one
time. Contracts required that the artist work on one piece of art at a time, Ghiberti disregarded what the
contract stated, working on numerous pieces at any given time. This prompted the Calimala guild to
enforce a new contract that caused Ghiberti to be the sole contractor and held him to stricter terms. The
Annunciation, Nativity, Adoration of the Magi, Baptism of Christ, Agony in the Garden, were most
likely cast before 1407. Between 1407 and 1413 the following were completed, the Fathers of the
Church and the Evangelists, Christ among the Doctors, The Temptation of Christ in the Desert, The
Crucifixion, The Last Supper. The panels that were made after 1414 included, The Expulsion of the
Money Changers from the Temple, The Entry into Jerusalem, Christ before Pilate, and The Raising of
Lazarus, and the heads of the prophets. The dates these panels were completed are visible because of the
changes in Ghiberti s artistic style and technique. At each intersection of the doors Ghiberti a carved
head of important prophets. Ghiberti

Neil Degrasse Tyson s Theory Of Evolution
Neil DeGrasse Tyson once said The theory of evolution, like the theory of gravity, is a scientific fact .
Neil DeGrasse Tyson is an acclaimed astrophysicist, cosmologist, and science communicator and has
influence in the scientific world we live in today. Biological evolution, simply put, is descent with
modification ( An Introduction to... ). This definition encompasses small scale evolution and large scale
evolution (the descent of different species from a common ancestor over many generations) ( An
Introduction to... ). There is now enough evidence for the theory of evolution that many consider it a fact
and as such are turning away from the idea of creationism as a whole. Because of evolution you can
trace just about every living thing on the Earth back to its ancestry billions of years ago. Darwin
believed that all life on Earth descended from one primordial form (Naff 61). Darwin didn t discover
evolution or come up with the concept, but he was the frontrunner in research and a public endorser of
the theory. The theory of evolution is correct because of homology, progressions of species changing
over time, and natural selection.
The first and quite possibly the best evidence for evolution is Homology. Homology is when species
share similarities that are signs of common ancestry such as homologous structures. Homologous
structures are ones that derive from a common ancestral structure ( Evidence of Evolution... ). These can
prove to be very solid reasoning when arguing

  • 2. Nutrition Reflection Nutrition, was the topic for Unit 2 and I must admit, it was pretty interesting. I thought that this unit was going to be more of taking notes, but no it was more of learning how to eat healthier, how having a bad habit of eating bad foods too much can be belligerent to our own lives. Exercising is a very important thing to do, at least 30 minutes 1 hour can help improve our personal health. Also I learned that being overweight, or obese can be a cause of many deaths around the world, and especially today, since we like bigger stuff, we want the bigger stuff. I also learned that since not only the U.S is the one with health problems, their is more countries with this problem, and we have to watch what we eat on a daily basis, since we can get diabetes, cholesterol, or any type of harmful diseases. I also learned how to work better with a group of people, and having to be assigned a job within the group, I know that working in a group will take commitment, and working with others will make you make time to work with your group, so everything can go well once you go present. I was happy to know that my group would do their work, and that we knew what to say when the time came to present. During this Unit 2 of Nutrition, I know how to be vigilant in what I eat on the daily basis, even now. I think twice when I m going to eat, or when I m at a restaurant, I have to see what I m going to order, and how much I m going to order. Since we also talked about the sugary drinks, I m ... • 3. Male Dominance In The Color Purple Research Paper Male Dominance in The Color Purple In the 1900s, the father figure in the average family played a humongous part on the way people went about their daily lives. Women had few rights and the males were considered the most important role in a female s life. Often the power held by males were taken advantage of. The Color Purple is a book based in 1900s and it describes how an average black female went in that time period. It also exhibits many hardships caused by dominant male roles. The main character Celie goes through many ups and downs as does her step son Harpo, and Harpo s wife Sophia. In The Color Purple, by Alice Walker, the violent actions committed by dominant male roles affect others emotions and reactions through the characters Celie, ... He never had a kine word to say to me...then he push his thing inside my pussy...I cry (Walker 1). In the very beginning of the book, Celie is raped by someone who she refers to as Pa. Then, it says that she gets beat. He beat me today cause I winked at a boy...I didn t wink...I don t even look at mens...I look at women, tho, cause I m not scared of them (Walker 5). Through Celie s words, Walker shows one of the first effects in a female s life when a dominant man abuses his power. Celie s traumatic experiences with men effects her; she is so used to being abused by men that it causes her to be scared of them. The second effect the traumatic experience caused Celie is numbness. When Celie gets beaten or raped she describes it as making herself a tree or doing his business and not feeling anything at all (Walker 23). And, according to the Joyful Heart Foundation, one of the common emotional effects of rape is numbness and fear (Joyful Heart Foundation). So, when Celie is beaten, instead of defending herself, she does not do anything unlike other characters in the novel. Celie tends to act submissive and accept everything that comes to ... • 4. Pete Rose And The Hall Of Fame My controversial topic is on Pete Rose and how he should be inducted into Baseball s Hall of Fame. Pete Rose was a player that I looked up to when I was a young boy playing baseball. I was a big fan of his collecting all of his baseball cards from rookie year up to the present time. Now, most of the baseball critics and others do not want Pete Rose inducted. They claim that his illegal betting on baseball games should keep him out of the Hall of Fame. Almost all of the highly questionable evidence that Commissioner Bart Giamatti held was derived from former friends and associates of Rose. Up to $30,000 per day , so some of Roses close friends say. These former friends of Rose are Tommy Gioiosa, Donald Stenger, Mike Fry, and Paul Janszen. This evidence is what prompted the banishment from baseball of Pete Rose, which he signed. The evidence was enough for the Commissioner. In 1989, baseball s Commissioner Bart Giammati suspended Pete Rose from association with professional baseball for life for gambling. Rose also spent five months in a minimum security prison for tax evasion in 1990. He did not report cash money he accepted for signing baseballs and photographs at baseball card shows. It is still to this day not proven that Rose did bet on the baseball team that he was managing. Rose himself still holds true to his statement that he never bet on the game of baseball. Evidence is minimal and it has been over ten years, yet he is still ineligible to be voted into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The efficiency of the technology is an asset to crime detectives apprehending criminals, or the government tracking suspected terrorists for the safety of the country. It can also be used on a corporate level to allow a business to understand their ideal customer, or to increase the intractability of their website. While these abilities are positives to the people using them, the data collection may be harming more than it is helping. Over the course of this past year, body cameras are becoming increasingly popular with police officers in the United States. This is in response to the public s outrage with unlawful police force. Recently, companies that manufacture such bodycams announced plans to include facial recognition software. The data collected from the cameras would be in the hands of the police for a minimum of 18 months, depending on the incident recorded (Chapman). While this could initially be seen as a positive method to identifying and arresting an active suspect, there is a question of privacy of control when it comes to this matter. This is an invasion of privacy for the citizens caught on camera that are not involved in an incident nor have a criminal record. These cameras are often worn during protests, both peaceful and not, capturing everyday citizens speaking their thoughts and ideas. A concern that exists is if the police will use the data collected from the cameras to unlawfully monitor participants (Chapman). This would inevitably discourage participation in these gatherings and take control from peaceful citizens and give too much control to police officers. There is also no guarantee that the footage will not be used for other purposes that the public is not yet aware of. There is no U.S. federal law at the moment that directly protects the privacy of American citizens from the potential surveillance using facial recognition, (Chapman). The fact that there is no balancing system for the rights of United States citizens may lead law enforcement to take advantage of their freedom and use the technology inappropriately and excessively. The Progressive Era And The New Deal Despite existing during two different times in the history of the United States, it can be argued that the New Deal reforms reflected the reform traditions of the Progressive Era. When examining the New Deal, Progressive influence is evident based first off of the social and political issues addressed by reforms. Second, the reforms from the two times themselves are uncannily similar, again due to the focus on the same problems existing in the United States. Currently, many practitioners believe there is a reproducibility crisis. Despite that scientists conduct sound research, reproducibility is still very low. In my opinion, irreproducible research should be well considered as a part of enhanced knowledge since, in part, nature tends to be chaotic and hence irreproducible. Better controls in the research process, however, can improve comprehension and utility of research results. Essay on Introduction to Drosophila Genetics INTRODUCTION TO DROSOPHILA GENETICS DROSOPHILA CULTURE We will study basic principles of Mendelian inheritance with the use of the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster [the name means black bodied fruit lover ]. Drosophila was one of the first organisms to be studied genetically: its small size, short life cycle (10 ~14 days at 25oC), high reproductive rate (an adult female can lay 400 500 eggs in 10 days), and ease of culture and genetic manipulation have made it perhaps the best understood animal genetic system. Thus, the genotype of a wild type homozygote would be designated e +e + (or ++), a mutant homozygote ee, and a heterozygote e +e or e+ [Use of the term wild type derives from an early assumption that most flies are homozygous for a standard , usually dominant, allele. As we will see, this is not the case, but the terminology is still used]. It is important to remember that not all mutants are recessive. A mutation that is dominant to the wild type is symbolized by a capital letter. For example, the typical eye shape is round. One mutant produces a narrow bar eye : the allele is dominant, symbolized by a capital letter B, and the wild type (round) eye is B+. 2 GENETIC CROSSES An X is used to indicate that two individuals have been mated together. The parents are designated as P (for parental) and the offspring as F (for filial). When several generations are involved, subscripts are added to designate the generations. P1 give rise to F1 (first filial) progeny. If the F1 are crossed together they become P2 and their progeny F2. A cross between members of the F1 and members of the P1 is a backcross. A cross between members of the F1 and the true breeding recessive P1 is a test cross. This is the world that forms the basis of Austen s novels. The daughter of an esteemed Reverend, Austen was herself a part of the landed gentry and she hence limited the focus of her novels to characters that lived lives similar to hers and that were located in an extremely selective world that was easily accessible to her. The lives of the women of the Regency period, including that of Austen, were orchestrated around certain gender expectations which ordained that they live in the shadow of men and be disempowered. Men were meant to be financially empowered by means of the money that they earned through their occupation or inherited through ancestral funds. The social structure was hierarchical and it lacked social mobility, whereby the aristocratic upper classes and middle classes, ruled by their separate set of values and expectations, rarely mingled with each other. Austen intelligently and truthfully represents these values in her novels that focus on mannerisms, social communication, conduct and courtship. Shampa Roy, in her essay Gender and Genre, describes Austen s style as containing a fine understanding of feminine identity, romantic desire and gender relations as shaped by the social context. • 15. Summary Of Videotape By Don Delillo How can we determine what s real? The mass media were once thought of as holding up a mirror to, and thereby reflecting, a wider social reality. Now that reality is only definable in terms of surface reflection of the mirror was once said by Dominic Strinati (1992). The short fiction, Videotape, was written by Don DeLillo in 1997 published in one of his novels Underworld (1997). The themes of postmodernism and how the role of mass media forms false representation, resulting in changes of the meaning behind events, is centered on the story Videotape . The impact of media attracts the society to postmodernism with the obsession of violence. Don DeLillo was influenced by several historical events surrounding him such as the Vietnam war, John F. Don DeLillo was born on November 20, 1936 in Bronx, New York. He didn t grow up with an interest in writing until his teenage years, where he began reading during a summer job. The first novel he has ever written was called Americana, which was finally published in 1971. Essay On Truman s Controversial Decision On August 6th, 1945, a US B 29 bomber took off from an air base, carrying a package that would forever change the nature of war and be a subject of debate throughout the rest of the century. At approximately 9:15am, a large, mushroom shaped cloud rose over Hiroshima, Japan. The first atomic bomb had been used in combat. The surrender of Japan a week later marked the end of a long struggle for freedom, democracy, and peace. At the same time, it marked a change in the nature of war. American President Harry Truman s controversial decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan ended the Second World War and began the nuclear age. In his book Serial Killers, Joel Norris speaks of violence as something that cycles from generation to generation: Parents who abuse their children, physically as well as psychologically, instill in them an almost instinctive reliance upon violence as a first resort to any challenge. Childhood abuse not only spawns violent reactions, but also affects the child s health, including brain injuries, malnutrition, and other developmental disorders (49 50). Violence early in life may lead to these undesirable tendencies to abuse and kill. Parents often believe that strict discipline will help the individual grow up to be strong, but it, in turn, creates a gap between the child and the parents. The child does not feel loved or wanted. The Scientific Method Of Experimental Testing Answer #1 Scientific Method The scientific method can be defined as a technique for research where the problem is known, appropriate data is gathered, a hypothesis is formulated from the data, and the hypothesis is tested firsthand. Gauch (2003) defines the scientific method as a highly variable and creative process and states that it is often misrepresented as a fixed sequence of steps although the scientific method of research has four steps. The first step is the observation, which serves as an act of recognizing and noting a fact or occurrence often involving measurement with instruments. The second step is the hypothesis, which is a tentative assumption made to draw out and test its logical and empirical consequences. The third step is experimental testing, which is when you apply a test to analyze or diagnose. The fourth step is predictions, which is when you declare or indicate in advance or predict the basis of observation, experience, or scientific reason. As of right now they are temporarily not allowing transgenders into the military. If they were to allow them there would be many things that they would have to look at. There is things like where would they live to how would be treated. They would have to decide what they would want to do with the ones currently serving. There s just many factors to look at when trying to decide when something like transgenders are becoming so popular in a society like ours today. It all started in 2016 when Barack Obama let transgenders to enroll in the military. Before this time there wasn t any problem with transgender because it just started to become a thing in 2016. Barack Obama signed a policy in 2014 that banned people who were openly gay, lesbian, and bisexuals from being in the military. There was never anything about transgenders. In 2015 things began to change, they now made it so that transgenders could serve. Joe Biden put his input in on what he thought about the situation. He argued that they should be able to serve. He said in a conference that he didn t want to anger anyone currently serving that is transgender. A study was made to see how big of an impact that transgenders would have on the military. Self Regulation And Effective Learning Essay Much research has shown the necessity for students to learn the behaviors that make up self regulation to learn successfully and be most effective in their personal and professional lives. Self regulation refers to one s ability to monitor their own behaviors, assess those behaviors based on their own standards, and provide punishments and reinforcements for those behaviors accordingly. In the experience of these authors, students increasingly enter classes lacking essential behaviors necessary for self regulation and effective learning. Instructors must first understand self regulation and how it affects the learning process, as well as provide students the necessary tools to achieve self regulation; however, these authors believe the path to self regulation begins from the first moment of contact with students. A classroom environment in which students feel comfortable, clearly understand expectations and receive timely responses allows students to gain confidence and trust the instructor. This type of environment sets the tone for the instructor then to share, model and shape strategies in students leading to self regulation. I know that comedy is my favorite genre. When thinking about comedies or comedians one person comes to mind, Will Ferrell. In some people s opinion he is the best comedian actor. Will Ferrell just so happen to be in a comedy partnership with director Adam McKay. McKay is responsible for over 20 films. There are three films that I am particularly fond of The Other Guys, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and Step Brothers. Ā Adam McKay does not single handedly write his movies. Like I said, he and Ferrell are in a partnership and co write movies together. Adams movies tend to be a mean or not appropriate for children. When did comedies start saying four letter words every other sentence. The times have changed that is for sure. I would be lying if I said I was shocked. I would also be lying if I said I had no taste, or judgment of comic strategy. Because, like I said I am very fond of these movies. Adam s films have a lot in common including his own partner. Will Ferrell plays the main character in most of McKay s films. In fact, he is the main character in all three of the films that I have chosen. So it may that I just like movies with Will Ferrell. Adam McKay has a tendency to starting off his movies with a quote, and of course he works with Will. In the movie Stepbrothers, an American buddy slapstick comedy which stars Will Ferrell and ... This sparks the very controversial debate on if schools should initiate technology based education throughout their campus or stick with the traditional textbooks. The idea of change has always caused great controversy throughout the world and education is no exception. To have a better understanding on this issue there are many facts on both sides to look into. One of the major reasons people side with the continuation of textbooks is the many health concerns that come with technology. Technology is known for causing many eye, neck, and back issues. New York Daily News reported that a condition called CVS, computer vision syndrome, is common with people who use technology on a day to day basis (1). The AOA, American Optometric Association, stated that symptoms of this condition include: eyestrain, headaches, blurred vision, and dry eyes ( NYDN, 1). This is caused by continuous time spent in front of an electronic screen, such as a tablet or computer. The article also reports of neck strain and pain in the shoulders, hands, or arms (1). Because of these many health risks that are caused by using technology, many people are concerned with technology based education. If so, then our contemporary entertainment era overstocked in brooding, morally ambiguous anti heroes bearing five o clock shadows and dark and gritty narratives are a reflection of the flawed and unrelenting modern day reality that we inhabit. This age of morally gray storytelling is a stark contrast to the idealistic depictions of American society and traditional family values found throughout various 1950s television (Museum of Broadcast Communications). The force behind this shift from a rather jubilant, dreamlike state of Cold War era media, to the grim and cynical state of present day film, television, and music can thus be interpreted by some romanticists with a longing for the good ol days as a decline of virtues and goodness in American society. However, the goodness of America found in 1950s media was hardly a true reflection of reality. Through the further development of mass media and communications in the following decades, however, American audiences were then able to see passed the goodness from the shelter of their own homes (Murray). The realities that went into the lenses of news cameras, and out the screens of black and white television tubes exposed the horrors of war in Vietnam and the injustice towards nonviolent Black protestors to the archetypical nuclear families of America, distorting their idealized perceptions of American ... • 42. The Disease Of Gluten Intolerance People with schizophrenia can be highly vulnerable due to the debilitating symptoms of their illness, the discrimination they experience from medical providers, and their high rates of disease comorbidities, like gluten intolerance, that may further debilitate functioning if left untreated. Since the 1950s, higher rates of gluten intolerance have been observed in people with schizophrenia compared to the general population. Diseases of gluten intolerance generally consist of either celiac disease (CD) or non celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). CD occurs in about 1% of the general population and is a hereditary, autoimmune response triggered by the ingestion of proteins known as gluten that are found in common grains like wheat, barley, and rye (Cascella et al., 2011). CD is typically diagnosed by confirming the presence of gluten antibodies in the blood, testing for the presence of certain immune system genes known as Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLAs), and confirmation of atrophied villi cells in the small intestine ( How Is Celiac Diagnosed? 2016). For CD patients, atrophy of the small intestine leads to nutrient malabsorption and an increased permeability of both the intestinal wall and potentially the blood brain barrier, which may contribute to extra intestinal immune responses that cause the immune system to attack other organs and tissues (Cascella, 2011). In addition to CD, Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) is a form of gluten intolerance where atrophied villi are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. What Role Did Roden Play In The Theology Of The Davidians Houteff bought a plot of land and moved outside Waco, Texas, bringing just under a hundred followers with him and thereby establishing the Davidian sect. They built a variety of buildings and named the location Mount Carmel after the mount where Elijah overcame the prophets of Baal. On a side note, this Mount Carmel was different from the one involved in the Branch Davidian inferno. Houteff did not want to break away from the Seventh day Adventism and continued to view his evangelistic message as directed to the Adventist church. Seventh day Adventism continued to play a major role in the theology of the Davidians though their relationship was bitter. The Davidian sect grew and although Houteff died in 1955, his wife Florence became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Roden affirmed the leadership of Victor and Ellen White and especially the need for a righteous remnant. Roden is responsible for the adoption of the name Branch, claiming it as the new name of Christ according to Isaiah 11:1. The Davidians, under Roden, became the Branch Davidians. Roden implemented observance of Old Testament festivals, which wasn t a big leap from strict Sabbath practice. He was also incredibly passionate about Israel and attempted to establish a group of Davidians within Israel. If they were able to move the Davidians to Israel, they would be one step closer to the millennium and their final earthly dwelling place. Under Roden, Branch Davidians believed that the truth of God would proceed from Jerusalem and since they contained the truth of God, it was necessary that they move to Israel. Unfortunately, Roden s dream was never completely actualized and upon his death in 1978, his wife Lois Roden assumed leadership of the Branch Davidians. Unlike Florence Houteff, Lois Roden received visions prior to the death of her husband and was even considered a prophetess, whereas Florence was just considered the leader. As the prophetic voice of the Branch Davidians, she formulated new theology, the most important being that the Holy Spirit is feminine. According to her, the notion of Father and Son in the ... • 44. The Second Set of Doors at the Baptistery The maintenance and completion of the Baptistery of San Giovanni, one of the oldest and most significant buildings in Florence, was entrusted to the Arte del Calimala Guild. This wool merchants guild was the oldest of Florentine guilds and was extremely powerful and wealthy. This wealth and power was due in large part to the fact that Florence was the fabric capitol of Italy. The Baptistery was dedicated to Florence s patron saint John the Baptist. Consequently, the first set of doors created by Andrea Pisano in 1336 depicted scenes from the life of Saint John the Baptist and was installed on the east or main entrance side. Plans for the other two sets of doors were delayed because of the economic crash, political unrest, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Documents indicate that Ghiberti and his stepfather, Bartolo di Michele, signed the contract together. The contract stated that Ghiberti must complete three panels a year. However after several years only four panels were finished, this was due to the number of commissions Ghiberti was working on at one time. Contracts required that the artist work on one piece of art at a time, Ghiberti disregarded what the contract stated, working on numerous pieces at any given time. This prompted the Calimala guild to enforce a new contract that caused Ghiberti to be the sole contractor and held him to stricter terms. The Annunciation, Nativity, Adoration of the Magi, Baptism of Christ, Agony in the Garden, were most likely cast before 1407. Between 1407 and 1413 the following were completed, the Fathers of the Church and the Evangelists, Christ among the Doctors, The Temptation of Christ in the Desert, The Crucifixion, The Last Supper. The panels that were made after 1414 included, The Expulsion of the Money Changers from the Temple, The Entry into Jerusalem, Christ before Pilate, and The Raising of Lazarus, and the heads of the prophets. The dates these panels were completed are visible because of the changes in Ghiberti s artistic style and technique. At each intersection of the doors Ghiberti a carved head of important prophets. • 46. Neil Degrasse Tyson s Theory Of Evolution Neil DeGrasse Tyson once said The theory of evolution, like the theory of gravity, is a scientific fact . Neil DeGrasse Tyson is an acclaimed astrophysicist, cosmologist, and science communicator and has influence in the scientific world we live in today. Biological evolution, simply put, is descent with modification ( An Introduction to... ). This definition encompasses small scale evolution and large scale evolution (the descent of different species from a common ancestor over many generations) ( An Introduction to... ). There is now enough evidence for the theory of evolution that many consider it a fact and as such are turning away from the idea of creationism as a whole. Because of evolution you can trace just about every living thing on the Earth back to its ancestry billions of years ago. Darwin believed that all life on Earth descended from one primordial form (Naff 61). Darwin didn t discover evolution or come up with the concept, but he was the frontrunner in research and a public endorser of the theory. The theory of evolution is correct because of homology, progressions of species changing over time, and natural selection. The first and quite possibly the best evidence for evolution is Homology. Homology is when species share similarities that are signs of common ancestry such as homologous structures. Homologous structures are ones that derive from a common ancestral structure ( Evidence of Evolution... ). These can prove to be very solid reasoning when arguing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
