Psych 101 Assignment
Over the semester, I have learned about many new and interesting topics in Psych 101. The one that
stood out to me the most was attachment and the study that Harry Harlow performed with the baby
monkeys. The study was very sad, but interesting. Attachment is formed as children (or monkeys in
this case) create relationships, interact with each other, and understand/manage their feelings. A few
questions researchers have been eager to answer are: how do parents and children form bonds? How
does neglect affect these bonds? Well, the study done by Harlow and a few others, answers those
questions for us. In the 1950 s, Harry experimented on monkeys. He separated the baby monkeys from
their mothers, giving them two different surrogate mothers to see which one they preferred. One of the
surrogate mothers was made out of wire and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A child will prefer his parent over a stranger. They are there as a safety base for the child to explore.
When the parent leaves the room, the child becomes upset, but when they returned, the child returns
back to normal and is excited to see the parent. These kinds of children have parents who are always
there for the child when it comes to their needs. Avoidant attachment: when the child ignore the
parent, doesn t use the parent as a secure base and isn t upset when the parent leaves the room. I read
that the child reacts to the parent the same way they would react to a stranger. When the parent returns
to the room, the child cares very little or not at all. Resistant attachment: child is really clingy to
parents. Child does not leave the mother in the room to explore. When the parent leaves, the child is
extremely upset and when they return, it takes a long time for the child to return to a normal state.
Disorganized attachment is the last type. This is most common in children who are abused at home.
The child will run around the room, unsure of what they re

Common Features Of Pop And Rock Music In The 1950s
Stemming from the creation of Rock n Roll in the 1950s was the birth of a diverse range of different
genres and styles marked a new era for music history. Some of the most common styles created in this
period include Pop and Rock music. In Australia, this music began to expand in popularity as a
response to its advancement around the world. Common features of Rock music include verse chorus
form, a diversity of lyrical themes, syncopation, terraced dynamics, repetitive hooks and riffs, standard
common or cut common time signatures, the use of electric and bass guitars, and the use of drum kit.
These features can be clearly displayed across Rock music from multiple decades. Working Class Man
composed by Jimmy Barnes in 1985 clearly demonstrates the features of rock music. These features
can also be seen almost two decades later, in the 2003 single from Australian band Jet, Are You Gonna
Be My Girl .
A common feature of Rock music is the use of a simple duple or quadruple time signature, such as 4/4
or 2/2.
Working Class Man features a common time signature (4/4). This is a regularly occurring feature in
Rock music, as the focus leans on the melody line, as oppose to more difficult rhythmic qualities of a
more complex time signature. It s tempo =120 beats per minute. The drum kit plays a syncopated
rhythm, placing emphasis on beats 2 and 4, which is another regularly occurring feature of Rock. The
extended chords in the guitar are played on beat one, and sustained

Essay on Victoria Chemicals Case Analysis
Case Studies Report: Victoria Chemicals This report will be covering the several capitals investment
aspects in which are associated with the case Victoria Chemicals PLC (A): The Merseyside Project,
written by Robert. F. Bruner. Introduction In the case, Victoria Chemicals, a fictional company, were
under the pressure of its investors to improve its performance as the earnings per shares (EPS) has
decreased from 250 pence in 2006 to 180 pence in 2007. Victoria Chemicals is a producer of
polypropylene that has two factories in Merseyside Works and Rotterdam, Holland. In addition, there
are seven major competitors in the market producing polypropylene. As previous management has
limited capital expenditure for Victoria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is stated that Victoria Chemicals has direct ownership of the tank cars, therefore the extra cost of the
transport division which are directly or indirectly associated with the implementation of the project
has to be taken into account in the DCF analysis. The main argument in light of this issue is, the
project will only have extra profitability if its additional polypropylene productions are distributed in a
cost efficient manner, in which it will directly increase the cost of the transport division, and thus it
should be incorporated in the profitability analysis of the project. Table 1: Cost Associated with the
Transport Division Factors | Cost | Additional tank cars | £2 million | Additional cost of fuel for
transporting | 7% increment | Additional operating expense | £300,000 increment (conservative) | Sales
Marketing Department and the Project Scenario 1: If the market is currently in an economic recession
and the polypropylene industry is heading towards a downturn, thus sales amount will decrease. In this
case, even though the project will result in additional production at lower cost, it will not be fully
utilized as the demand of polypropylene decreases and any additional output will be stored in
inventory, which will in turn increase the storage cost. Scenario 2: In an economic recovery, as

I Am A International Competitor
I am a learner. I am a sporting competitor. I am not afraid of failure. I am eager to learn the lessons
required to reach the top. I dare say it is a very pleasurable mix. My views on learning are not
extraordinary. They are however centred on comprehensive and investigative approaches to
engineering problems. I am happiest when I am identifying problems in a complex circuit, in control
systems, logic and digital circuits or simply the detection of flaws in coding. When the problem is
accessible and simultaneously acts as an intellectual stimulant I recognise an automatic leveraging of
inner resources and a gearing up of the mind to solve the issue. I find myself thinking furiously
adopting several parallel courses of action and a range of approaches which will result in the best
fastest solution to the problem. The entire exercise is meditative with the focus resting solely on the
end result. Every problem can be solved at different levels of abstraction and by implementing
different strategies. So then, the knowledge base acquired through class lectures and the committed
guidance from tutors, from peer reviewed journals and publications, from interactive workshops and
seminars, from the engaging technical discussions and debates comprise the raw material to work
with. What a qualified professional does with the vast pools of information largely decides the shape
his career takes. The vast application potential and tremendous scope for a successful career in the

Personal Integrity And Personality
Integrity is defined in dictionary.com as adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral
character; honesty ( Integrity , n.d.), but what does it also mean be to have moral and ethical
principles? The apostle Paul wrote a personal letter to Titus encouraging him in his ministry and
shows him what integrity looks like. The letter that Paul wrote can be applied to both spiritual and
personal integrity. When one has personal growth it affects ones integrity because he or she can go
about their lives more boldly. In Titus chapter 2: 1 12 it states:
1 You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. 2 Teach the older men to be
temperate, worthy of respect, self controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. 3 Likewise,
teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much
wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and
children, 5 to be self controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their
husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. 6 Similarly, encourage the young men to be self
controlled. 7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show
integrity, seriousness 8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose
you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us. 9 Teach slaves to be subject to

How the Internet has Affected the US Postal Service
Is the Internet Hurting the US Postal Service, or Helping?
The United States Postal Service has been around since 1775. Over the years the United States Postal
Service has grown and changed with America (USPS). In the Last 230 years the Postal service has
evolved greatly. Mail has been delivered from foot to horseback, then to stagecoach. From stagecoach
to railroad, and from railroad to Air. Now due to the advances in the internet, mail is being delivered
by e mail (Kamarck, Para 1). Many believe that the internet may very well be the down fall of the
United States Postal Service. Since 1970 the Unites States Postal Service has been self sufficient. The
Post Office generates its revenue from selling stamps and other postage, and the many other services
that it offers (Nocera, Para 5). The only thing is that the Post Office is loosing money instead of
making money. The internet began to have an effect almost as soon as Americans went online.
Between 1998 and 2002 the pieces of first class mail dropped from 54.3 billion to 49 billion pieces.
This has only continued to accelerate over the years. In 2004 the Postal Service delivered 48 billion
pieces of first class mail and in 2008 they delivered 39 billion pieces. (Kamarck, Para 5). In 2005 the
lost cost the Postal Service $20 Billion (Nocera, Para 2). The dramatic reduction of first class mail is
due to the internet moving personal and business correspondence from paper mail to e mail (Kamarck,

Dziga Vertov
Dziga Vertov s Man with a Movie Camera presents the everyday urban activities of people from the
Soviet Union. Since the documentary film has no story at all, it also does not have continuity of
action. This 1929 documentary made use of montage where images were edited together without
visible or apparent connection between shots.
This documentary film is considered as one of the greatest films of all time. It has neither actors nor
story. It basically follows a camera man and his views of the Russian city. It is about film techniques
and the process required in making one.
Vertov believed that a camera has the power to unveil those aspects of the filmed events which
otherwise cannot be perceived. During that time, there are variety of camera angles and editing styles
and techniques that are being demonstrated in films. And one important aspects of this particular
documentary film that is visible as the scene progresses is the type of montage used. Man with a
Movie Camera consists of a series editing and collision editing which have their own purpose; there

For him, montage is a collision wherein the collision of two factors gives rise to an idea. An example
of this in the documentary film is when a woman wakes up and starts to wash her face, then the film
cuts to water cleaning off a pole. As the scene progresses, it shows a woman wiping herself using a
cloth, then cuts to a woman wiping off a window (probably using a similar cloth). Lastly, the film cuts
back to the woman cleaning her face and starting blinking as the windows starts to open and close at
the same time (simultaneously with her blinking). This particular scene produces different
interpretations but it may also imply (since collision editing was used) that the woman s life is similar
to the life of the Russian city; they both go through

The Barriers Of Self Driving Cars
The Roadblocks to Legalizing Self Driving Cars in America
An examination of the legal liabilities surrounding the developing technology involved in autonomous
vehicles in the United States of America
By Hannah Say
Intro to Business Law
Wesner
November 17, 2015 Introduction
This paper will analyze the key legal issues with respect to legalizing self driving cars in the United
States of America. The legal issues to be analyzed will include...
How many people say they would buy a self driving car (Statista)
Percentage of accidents attributed to human error (NHTSA Report)
Researchers estimate that driverless cars could, by midcentury, reduce traffic fatalities by up to 90
percent. (McKinsey Report) Which means that, using the number of fatalities in 2013 as a baseline,
self driving cars could save 29,447 lives a year. (Atlantic, 30000)
Liabilities around self driving cars also include potential negative economic effects, ethical arguments,
privacy and security, will not be considered due to space constraints
The technology is so new that the legal definitions of what constitutes a autonomous vehicle is still
being clarified
Southwestern
The benefits of autonomous vehicles include reduction in frequency of crashes because further
automation is expected to save more lives ... Automatic braking when a car detects an obstacle will
reduce rear end collisions, and fully driverless cars will dramatically reduce human error, which

A Brief Look at France
II. Essay One The state which we today call France has undergone significant change since its origins
as the territory of Gaul. Between the years 480 and 1780, this territory was reshaped in terms of both
its physical boundaries and its inhabitants and rulers, creating a rich history of the nation of modern
France. First, in order to analyze the evolution of the state of France, it is necessary to define the
concept of the state. A state is a territory, defined by physical or imagined boundaries, containing a
population of people that is governed by a select few of those people. Within the state, the government
has authority and the power to impose their power on the rest of the population, enacting laws such as
taxation, fighting wars, and implementing a criminal justice system. It is now appropriate to consider
the territorial expansion and, at times, contraction of France from 480 and 1780. Before France was
united in any kind of Frankish state, the territory we now call France was mostly comprised of an area
called Gaul. This area, existing in parts of Spain and Rome, parts of present day Belgium, Germany,
Austria and other European nations, and south of England and the English channel, was inhabited by
the Gauls up until the end of Roman rule in the 1st 3rd centuries CE. The region was populated by
tribes and loosely connected governing bodies up until the 5th century CE, when it first began to take
shape under Clovis. Clovis I had established himself as the first

Expansion Of The Islamic Empire
The Islamic Empire expanded so quickly because they were fierce warriors, and they offered
incentives to their soldiers. The Islamic army was a very powerful group of Muslim warriors, who
were very capable of destroying armies much larger than their own. It is said that an army of 24,000
defeated a Greek army of 70,000, By Allah s help, some 70,000 of them [the Greeks] were put to
death, and the rest of their army fled, reaching as far as Palestine, Antioch, Aleppo, Mesopotamia, and
Armenia, (Document A). This shows how strong the Muslim warriors were. If the statistics of the
document were correct, each Muslim soldier would have had to kill 2.91 Greek soldiers. Conquering
armies so easily would lead to spread of Islamic culture. Also,

The Visual Encyclopedia Of Late Roman Art
from the visual encyclopedia of late Roman art to tell a story. In addition, pagans and Christians both
produced similar non verbal, iconographical images that pointed to a shared conceptual backcloth in
which both pagans and Christians had a prior agreement in a form of life. This form is largely defined
through the relationship between death and the afterlife. One such form involves the iconographical
depictions of events that occurred in the catacombs themselves refrigeria meals (in the Christian case)
to commemorate the apostles and future saints Peter and Paul, or even the deaths of everyday
Christians. These meals were events in which the living feasted in the presence of the dead. However,

The benefit of association provided by collective catacomb burial, as well as artistic depictions of
virtues on tombs, was one that crossed different religious and class groups; these associations suggest
that, at least up until the third century, these types of shared experiences were an important way for an
individual to connect their life (and death) to wider society as a whole. This, in turn, helped people
make sense of the world that both Christians and pagans lived in. Thus, it is sufficient to say that
Christian catacomb art, compared to pagan catacomb art, does not necessarily reflect any distinctly
more confident belief in the afterlife than the other; rather, art served as a sort of consolation between
the life one lived and how they hoped to be remembered after death, especially in the lower class. Yet,
just like burial, Christian art was a way for Christians to find specific meaning in their collective
Roman experience. The emergence of Christian art reflected the emergence of a characteristically
Christian social identity, one that revolved primarily around the interpretation of biblical narratives.
While it is true that both Christians and pagans used similar artistic types, it is also true that even
when similar iconographical figures were depicted, Christians and pagans were attracted to icons that
reflected their specific religious beliefs. This duality will be shown in two ways: first, by analyzing

The English Industrial Revolution Essay
Textile manufacture changed dramatically in the 1700s. Key inventions such as Hargreaves spinning
jenny (1764), Arkwright s water frame (1769), Crompton s spinning mule (1779) and Cartwright s
power loom (1784) reduced human labour by up to a third. Early models of these machines tended to
be unreliable, and some looms were ruined by machine breakers as a statement against the
replacement of human labour with machines.
The main centres of textile production in England became Greater Manchester, Lancashire and West
Yorkshire. Leeds, for example, boasted around 170 scribbling machines (which prepare wool for
spinning) by 1786; this had unfortunate consequences for workers, who signed a petition in that year
stating that twelve men are thrown out of employ for every single machine used in scribbling .
By 1830, over half of British exports consisted of cotton textiles. People began to favour the ... Show

Authentic Wine Country Is A Small Enterprise
Authentic Wine Country cannot let competitors use digital media against them to attract the younger
generation and gain market share. In order to guard against competition, the company should utilize
business agility to maintain a digital model for providing superior customer service as well as
maintain a digital marketing presence that positively and correctly represents the company s services
and reputation to the younger generation. Therefore, Authentic Wine Country must acquire as much
knowledge as possible about the younger generation of consumers through big data collection.
Therefore, the company must utilize all sources of digital mediums in order to create an effective

The Properties Of Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates contain the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and are hydrated due to the 2;1
ratio of hydrogen and water. Carbohydrates have 3 groups; monosaccharides, disaccharides and
polysaccharides (see figure 7) Monosaccharides are simple sugars that made up of 1 sugar unit and
include glucose, fructose, galactose which are substrates for respiration. When 2 monosaccharides
gain a glycosidic bond to attach to another they become disaccharides. On the reverse, when they are
broken down from 2 to 1, a condensation reaction and this is called hydrolysis. Adding one
monosaccharide after another to the chain, it polysaccharides; this is called condensation
polymerisation and the monosaccharides are then referred to as monomers. The properties of a

West Memphis Three Men Research Paper
Murder begins where self defense ends. This quote from Georg Buchner can be used to describe the
tragic deaths of three little boys who were rendered defense less against their attackers. On May 5,
1993 in West Memphis, Arkansas, three young second grade boys, by the names of Christopher Byers,
Steven Branch, and Michael Moore, were brutally murdered after being beaten and hogtied by their
own shoelaces. A year later, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley were convicted and
sent to prison for this heinous crime. Even though the three men were convicted for the crime, there is
still great controversy as to who actually killed the three boys. Throughout all this controversy,
evidence, testimony, confessions, and more point towards the three men known as the West Memphis
Three , to be the real killers.
In the case of the three murdered eight year olds, West Memphis police department s investigative
work led to a numbered list of suspects. Some of the suspects were quickly ruled out while others took
a little more investigative work. In the end, the list of suspects was shortened until all who remained

Pride And Prejudice Social Landscape Essay
In Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen carefully depicts the social landscape of England during the late
18th and early 19th centuries. Seemingly mirroring this social landscape is the physical landscape of
the English countryside. In a pivotal scene in which the novel s protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet,
ventures to the home of her future husband, Austen uses the natural landscape to show how Elizabeth,

Bennet makes it [t]he business of her life [...] to get her daughters married (Pride and Prejudice 1.1
(3)). Austen uses the word business to emphasize how, more than anything, marriage is an economic
institution meant to guarantee that Mrs. Bennet s daughters not die of starvation. Austen then uses the
rest of the novel to track the Bennet sisters and their ability to find financial security through the
ascension of social classes via marriage. This ascension is ultimately epitomized by the novel s
protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet, who rises from her family s (relatively) low station to become the wife
of the wealthy Mr. Darcy.
The landscape of England itself seems to mirror that ascension. When Elizabeth first visits Mr. Darcy,
one of the main turning points in the novel, she is forced to travel from low elevation to high
elevation, foreshadowing her rise in status through marriage: [Elizabeth and the Gardiners] entered
[the park leading to Pemberley] in one of its lowest points, and drove for some time through a
beautiful wood, stretching over a wide extent (Pride and Prejudice 3.1 (185)). Here, Elizabeth is
marked as having entered the park at one of its lowest points , signifying her family s relatively
modest income, particularly in comparison to Mr. Darcy s. Ultimately, [t]hey gradually ascended for
half a mile, and then found themselves at the top of a considerable eminence, where the wood ceased,

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Progeny Testing
Breeding value of the individual estimated on the basis of the performance of the progeny is called
Progeny Testing. If the heritability (h2) of the trait is high and the animal is able to express the trait by
itself then individual selection is the best method. But in case of many traits it so happens that the trait
is expressed in only one sex (i.e., sex limited traits), or when the trait is expressed after the death of
the animal (i.e., slaughter traits), then the breeding value (B.V.) of the animal can be estimated based
on the performance of the relatives (dam, sisters and progeny). Where B.V. is the additive genetic
value or breeding worth of the animal or the value of the individual based on the mean performance of
the progeny. The pedigree selection based on the performance of dam is not a good selection criterion

Number of progeny to be recorded per sire should be more. Advantages of progeny testing It can be
used for sex limited traits like milk production and slaughter traits in meat animals which has low
heritability. It is also useful to prove whether a sire is free from any recessive gene or not. If a sire is
identified as carrying an undesirable trait then it should be culled. Progeny testing increases selection
intensity. Its accuracy increases with increase in number of progeny. Constraints and Limitations
Small population size and unplanned mating are two major constraints of progeny testing. Problem of
small population size can be avoided if the sires are simultaneously tested in different associated herds
or even by field progeny testing programmes. This will help in increasing the accuracy of selection, as
more number of sires will be tested in different herds with more number of progenies. On the other
hand unplanned mating results in generation of wrong data which provides hindrance in assessing the
true genetic merit of an

El Nino Effects On Coastal Environments
El Niño refers to the large scale climatic relationship between the ocean and atmosphere, linked to a
sporadic warming in sea temperatures across the central and east central Equatorial Pacific, (What are
El Nino and La Nina, 2016). Effects of the El Nino typically develop over North America before the
winter months, and include warmer than average temperatures over western and central Canada and
The United States. The force of El Niño can significantly influence weather patters, marine conditions,
and a large proportion of coastal environments, (What are El Nino and La Nina, 2016). Relatively new
information considering impacts of El Niño due to warming temperatures has introduced new ideas
that El Niño has a direct effect on coastal landforms in the state of California, (earth a dynamic
structure, 2003). Scholars argue that the presence and strengthening of the El Niño have detrimental
impacts on coastal environments in California, (earth a dynamic structure, 2003; Sanders, 2016).
These impacts include cliff erosion and the collapsing of cliffs, bigger waves eroding away beaches
and the coast, landslides, and sea level rise, (Richmond Gibbs, 1998). Coastal Erosion is a result of
many physical processes occurring on earth, El Niño is just one of the processes that significantly
destroy coastal landforms, but climate change plays a major role in increasing the likelihood of coastal
erosion due to El Niño. Research done in previous studies identify many different

Emily Bronte s Participation Rhetorical Devices
Anticipation is a situation when you are happy and excited about a upcoming event. In this poem
Emily Bronte has an anticipation of having hope and being very in control. Emily Bronte s poetry can
be described as very lyrical and in her stanzas she is very compassionate about her writings and it
seems that in this poem Anticipation she seems like she is having a conversation to herself about
letting go of the bad and finding her destiny somewhere. (Lieder Web) Emily Bronte has formal
diction within her poem Anticipation. She uses a lot of strong vocabulary because she is very
expressive and makes comparisons to nature and the world as a whole. How spring can bring thee

(Lieder Web) The syntax of this poem has a lot of questions that are being asked and being answers
detailed and not very straight forward. Emily Bronte uses syntax to create this rhyme and the flow of
this poem by comparison to things that people can relate to and can let readers understand how and
what she is saying in this poem. The poem itself is organized into stanzas and organized to show what
each stanza meaning is. The stanzas meaning to the poem is supported throughout the whole poem
because the word choice makes the poem come to life and had a lot of imagery to give the reader a

Analysis Of Mice And Men By John Steinbeck

Mrs.Hastings
English 9R
May 13, 2015
Part one: I want to find out how important it is to take care of those in need? I am interested in this
because there are a lot of people in the world that have disabilities and they need help. In mice and
men, Lennie has trouble understanding the outside world and he takes time to process things in his
brain. Lennie doesn t know his strength and he can get into trouble easily. For example, when Curly
wants to fight with Lennie, Lennie accidentally breaks his right arm. At the end of the story, Lennie
hugs a puppy but accidentally kills it. Also, he kills Curly s wife by snapping her neck. People with
problems, how can they take care of themselves? In mice and men, George takes care of Lennie by
thinking he is a part of him. But in the real world, how important is it to care someone who has certain
types of problems?
Part 2: In the United States, there are tons of health hospital and facilities, there all know a little bit off
something about how important it to care someone with disabilities. There are websites like the
national council on disability or the NCD, The United States centers for disease control and
prevention or CDC, and health care. There are also resources like gale, which can hold a lot of
information about this particular topic. There are a lot of great information out in the world, some are
in book that exist somewhere in the world.

his mother as a heroic figure, who outshines the negative aspects of his life by providing the essentials

There is a great distinction between the young man s unappreciative demeanor in Shirley Caesar s
song No Charge and Shakur s honorable acknowledgement in his song Dear Mama .
From beginning to end, Shakur lyrically unfolds sincere gratitude toward his mother. In fact, in the
very first line he strongly emphasizes You are appreciated , highlighting the theme appreciation . The
artist repetitively quotes this line throughout the song to effectively remind his listeners of his
gratefulness to have a valuable mother. In the first verse of the song, Shakur informs the audience of a
pessimistic aspect of his life, where he is thrown out of the house. Yet, he still yearns to see his mother
and shows a nostalgic attitude toward the situation. Despite the fact that his mother is a crack addict
Shakur portrays her as a black queen , displaying great esteem for what she means to him as her son.
Sung by an anonymous voice, the chorus itself relatively personifies the appreciation he has towards
his mother. In the second verse the artist expresses feelings of enmity towards his father who was not
there for him. This allows me as a listener to conclude that Shakur s mother had to play the role of
both a mother and father which further elevates a higher appreciation for his love towards her.
Evidently, he demonstrates his gratefulness by giving her a diamond necklace which symbolizes great
worth. Shakur indicates that she is not only a parent but also a loyal

Analysis of A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor
In Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard To Find, one is struck by the unexpected violence at the
end of the story. However, if you re read the story a second time, you will see definite signs that
foreshadow the grotesque ending. The story begins with the typical nuclear family being challenged
by the grandmother who doesn t want to take the vacation to Florida. She has read about a crazed
killer by the name of the Misfit who is on the run heading for Florida. Unfortunately, she is ignored by
every member of the family except for the little girl, June Star, who can read the grandmother like an
open book. The fact that she admonishes Bailey, her son, of this Misfit ... Show more content on

A strong foreshadowing imagery can be read into these lines. Knowing the definite ending of the
story, the grandmother?s elaborate dress symbolizes a preparation for her coffin. When a person dies,
they usually are dressed in their best outfit, just like the grandmother was dressed in what seemed to
be her Sunday best. A stronger foreshadowing is when O?Connor states the reason for the
grandmother?s immaculate dress, in case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway
would know at once that she was a lady. She herself predicts her own death. Unfortunately, she doesn?
t know this yet. Although this is beyond the parameters of this essay, it is interesting that in the
grandmother s mind wearing her best clothes prevent any misgivings about her status as a lady IF she
was to die. But as the Misfit later points out, there never was a body that gave the undertaker a tip.
The grandmother s perceived readiness for death is a stark contrast to her behavior when she
encounters the Misfit; for she shows herself to be the least prepared for death.
As the trip progresses, the children reveal themselves as funny, spoiled brats. O Connor s desire to
illustrate the lost respect for the family and elders among the young is quite apparent in her
illustrations of the children. One evidently notices another foreshadowing image when the family

Importance Of Guns And The Right To Carry Guns
Guns and the right to carry them is such a debatable topic in today s society. So many different people
have their opinions on how people should use their guns or where they can and can t carry them. They
have this misconception that guns are such a big problem and that they kill people, but in reality guns
are not the problem at all it is the people holding them. Even though guns can be dangerous, guns are
used for good more than bad. Getting a conceal carry permit is something that has very precise steps
to follow in order to obtain it. You are required to be at least 21 years of age. If for some reason you
are ineligible to purchase a firearm then you are no longer able to get the permit to conceal a handgun.
A person that has been convicted of a violent misdemeanor or drunkenness in the last three years will
be rejected if applied for a conceal carry permit. As you can see a lot goes into obtaining the permit to
be able to conceal a handgun. After a very thorough background check gets cleared for the applicant
the court may require proof that the applicant can demonstrate competence with a handgun. This
includes: completion of a firearm training course offered by the NRA, the state, or school (Virginia
Gun Laws). Also a lot more goes into it. Many choose to conceal carry instead of open carry for a
couple of different reasons. When you conceal a handgun nobody knows you have the gun. If a
criminal comes to rob a gas station that you are in and sees a handgun on your hip

The Nevada constitution is the document that governs the citizens of the state of Nevada. In general,
state constitutions are usually much longer than the United States constitution and Nevada s
constitution, which was sanctioned in 1864, is one of the state constitutions that fall into that category.
When comparing the two, Nevada s constitution is just short of being twice the length of the United
States constitution, but Nevada is still shorter than the constitution of twenty six other states. The
reason Nevada s constitution has such length is because of the in depth parts it contains, which are

Global Warming and The San Francisco Bay
Do you think the San Francisco Bay would not be affected by climate change of global warming? The
short answer is no. Scientists believe that in the future that the sea level of the San Francisco Bay will
rise and flood several of the San Francisco Bay Area s populated areas and landmarks such as the San
Francisco and Oakland International Airport. How could we prevent or slow down the bay from taking
over our landmarks and populated areas? Around 10,000 years ago the San Francisco Bay was once
not a bay. The glaciers from the ice age melted into water and then the water flowed into canyons to
form into the San Francisco Bay. However the flowing of the bay may not have stopped. The San
Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission predicts that the sea level will increase so
much the sea will take over and flood populated areas and landmarks like the San Francisco and the
Oakland International Airports. We could recover from natural disasters like earthquakes, tornadoes,
and hurricanes, but not sea level rising. The New York Daily News say that it would take only 12 feet
for the ocean to rise and take over several landmarks and populated areas in the San Francisco Bay
Area and another landmark could be San Francisco Giants AT T Park. My project is to solve San

Economic Analysis of The U.S. 2001 2003
Economics have many indicators to describe how it runs. The indicators can show if the economy has
improved or declined. The economic indicators that will be focused on in this analysis of the United
States economy from 2001 2003 will be the consumer price index, the imports and exports, the
unemployment rate, and finally the gross domestic product. Now while most may know the meanings
of the previously stated indicators, for those who don t, they remain useless unless defined. To begin
with, these indicators will have to be defined in full to aid in understanding the analysis in more detail.

Obviously unemployed rate is defined as the fraction of the labor force that is unemployed . To define
the unemployed is important as well, because it refers to those that have no job, but are actively
looking for work, not to those who are not working and are uninterested in searching or getting a job .
The reason that unemployment is so important in determining the economy s success is because it is
intertwined with the gross domestic product, as in when the gross domestic product falls,
unemployment is increased, and when it rises, there is a decrease in unemployment . To make what is
being explained clearer, when there is unemployment, production is down; therefore there is less
money and goods produced out of the economy. This is how unemployment relates as well.
The last indicator to be defined is probably the most the important of them all, and that is the gross
domestic product. The gross domestic product is defined as the total market value of all the final
goods and services produced within an economy in a given year . There are two types of gross
domestic product, real and nominal. Real GDP is adjusted to how prices have changed, as nominal
GDP is the current price as it is calculated . There is so very much that goes into the gross domestic
product that in this analysis only the percent change from the years will be shown as important. A
percent that is positive is obviously

Essay Codependency should be a Medical Diagnosis
A staggering amount of Americans struggle with a form of addiction or dependency . According to
Winters, 96% of Americans suffer from codependency. Codependency is referred to as a national
epidemic, because almost every form of compulsive behavior can be classified as an addiction (1996).
Knowing this staggering statistic, we must ask ourselves: How are we contributing to our own
codependency?
Being codependent (being addicted to something or someone), can be viewed in two different ways.
The alcoholic or drug abuser is the dependent, and the person involved with the dependent person in
any intimate way (spouse, lover, child, sibling, etc.) is the codependent. According to Strickland

Often because codependency is hard to diagnose, professional counselors look to other forms of
diagnosis that feed codependent behavior. Codependency as seen in treatment facilities pathologies
behaviors such as care giving, loyalty, empathy, and perpetuates male models of emotional health and
diminishes the importance of relations and independence (Gordon, 1997). A codependent marital
relationships, has been termed by various family therapists, as over adequate versus inadequate
functioning of each of the spouses (Bowen, 1960). And according to Beattie and Gordon, A
codependent person is the one who has let another person s behavior affect him or her, and who is
obsessed with controlling that person s behavior (Beattie, 1987). Societies may differentially foster
and discourage dependent behavior in males and females (American Psychiatric Association, 2000).
But codependency has no boundaries. Addiction has been referenced in a wide range of behaviors. In
addition to familiar addictions such as alcohol dependence, drug dependence, and smoking, addictive
behavior has been associated with food, exercise, work, and even relationships with others
(codependency) (Strickland, 2001). Experts describe many behaviors designated as addictive in terms
of five interrelated concepts: patterns, habits, compulsion, impulsive control disorders, and physical
addiction (Strickland, 2001). People who engage in addictive behaviors

The Decameron Was A Collection Of Bawdy And Serious Tales...
Professor Mark Bocija, History 1111 Rezvan Ngalla November 16, 2015 The Decameron Black
Death. The Decameron was a collection of bawdy and serious tales written by Boccaccio. Boccaccio
was most likely born in Florence or Certaldo and was the illegitimate son of a wealthy Florentine
merchant, Bocacino di Chellino. As a youth he was trained to follow in his father s business but he
eventually chose instead to study canon law and subsequently pursued the arts. It is a combination of
Greek words for ten and day. According to Frankforter, the Decameron is a fictive record of a hundred
stories that ten Florentine men and women told to entertain themselves while they hid from the plague
in the comfort of a luxurious house (Frankforter, pg. 348). The one hundred allegorical stories are
shared through the narrative voices of these young people as they spend their nights regaling the
company with tales from the erotic, sensual, and bawdy to the intellectual, philosophical or tragic. The
narrative s fundamental theme is of struggle between life and death in the face of the Black Plague and
the various ways life continues in spite of traditional moral attitudes and beliefs. While primarily a
work of fiction, the Introduction to The Decameron has emerged as an important historical record of
the physical, psychological, and social effects of the aggressive spread of the previously unknown

Kentucky s Role During The Civil War
Kentucky s Role during the Civil War The world has faced the dangers of war almost since the
beginnings of time, and America in the mid 1800 s was no different. Despite the Union having won its
freedom from England during the Revolutionary War less than a century before, problems were
brewing internally within the young and rapidly expanding country. As slavery boomed in the
southern states, the North grew less and less content with this state of affairs. It is said that to southern
whites, the Republican victory in 1860 presented an immediate danger to the slave owning republic
that had existed since 1776 (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). Southerners were not ready to lose one of their
most valuable commodities, slaves, which they feared would happen under the leadership of Abraham
Lincoln, although he promised to safeguard slavery where it existed but vowed to prevent its
expansion (Henretta, 2012, p. 420). Unheeding of Lincoln s vows, and hoping to preserve the
individual state s rights, radical southerners chose the dangerous enterprise of secession (Henretta,
2012, p. 418). This secession began first in the state of South Carolina, when on December 20, 1860 a
unanimous vote was taken to dissolve the union now subsisting between South Carolina and the other
states (Henretta, 2012, p.418). This idea of secession spread quickly to the surrounding southern
states, resulting in five other states declaring secession within the month. At a meeting of the seceding

  • 2. Psych 101 Assignment Over the semester, I have learned about many new and interesting topics in Psych 101. The one that stood out to me the most was attachment and the study that Harry Harlow performed with the baby monkeys. The study was very sad, but interesting. Attachment is formed as children (or monkeys in this case) create relationships, interact with each other, and understand/manage their feelings. A few questions researchers have been eager to answer are: how do parents and children form bonds? How does neglect affect these bonds? Well, the study done by Harlow and a few others, answers those questions for us. In the 1950 s, Harry experimented on monkeys. He separated the baby monkeys from their mothers, giving them two different surrogate mothers to see which one they preferred. One of the surrogate mothers was made out of wire and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A child will prefer his parent over a stranger. They are there as a safety base for the child to explore. When the parent leaves the room, the child becomes upset, but when they returned, the child returns back to normal and is excited to see the parent. These kinds of children have parents who are always there for the child when it comes to their needs. Avoidant attachment: when the child ignore the parent, doesn t use the parent as a secure base and isn t upset when the parent leaves the room. I read that the child reacts to the parent the same way they would react to a stranger. When the parent returns to the room, the child cares very little or not at all. Resistant attachment: child is really clingy to parents. Child does not leave the mother in the room to explore. When the parent leaves, the child is extremely upset and when they return, it takes a long time for the child to return to a normal state. Disorganized attachment is the last type. This is most common in children who are abused at home. The child will run around the room, unsure of what they re ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Common Features Of Pop And Rock Music In The 1950s Stemming from the creation of Rock n Roll in the 1950s was the birth of a diverse range of different genres and styles marked a new era for music history. Some of the most common styles created in this period include Pop and Rock music. In Australia, this music began to expand in popularity as a response to its advancement around the world. Common features of Rock music include verse chorus form, a diversity of lyrical themes, syncopation, terraced dynamics, repetitive hooks and riffs, standard common or cut common time signatures, the use of electric and bass guitars, and the use of drum kit. These features can be clearly displayed across Rock music from multiple decades. Working Class Man composed by Jimmy Barnes in 1985 clearly demonstrates the features of rock music. These features can also be seen almost two decades later, in the 2003 single from Australian band Jet, Are You Gonna Be My Girl . A common feature of Rock music is the use of a simple duple or quadruple time signature, such as 4/4 or 2/2. Working Class Man features a common time signature (4/4). This is a regularly occurring feature in Rock music, as the focus leans on the melody line, as oppose to more difficult rhythmic qualities of a more complex time signature. It s tempo =120 beats per minute. The drum kit plays a syncopated rhythm, placing emphasis on beats 2 and 4, which is another regularly occurring feature of Rock. The extended chords in the guitar are played on beat one, and sustained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Victoria Chemicals Case Analysis Case Studies Report: Victoria Chemicals This report will be covering the several capitals investment aspects in which are associated with the case Victoria Chemicals PLC (A): The Merseyside Project, written by Robert. F. Bruner. Introduction In the case, Victoria Chemicals, a fictional company, were under the pressure of its investors to improve its performance as the earnings per shares (EPS) has decreased from 250 pence in 2006 to 180 pence in 2007. Victoria Chemicals is a producer of polypropylene that has two factories in Merseyside Works and Rotterdam, Holland. In addition, there are seven major competitors in the market producing polypropylene. As previous management has limited capital expenditure for Victoria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is stated that Victoria Chemicals has direct ownership of the tank cars, therefore the extra cost of the transport division which are directly or indirectly associated with the implementation of the project has to be taken into account in the DCF analysis. The main argument in light of this issue is, the project will only have extra profitability if its additional polypropylene productions are distributed in a cost efficient manner, in which it will directly increase the cost of the transport division, and thus it should be incorporated in the profitability analysis of the project. Table 1: Cost Associated with the Transport Division Factors | Cost | Additional tank cars | £2 million | Additional cost of fuel for transporting | 7% increment | Additional operating expense | £300,000 increment (conservative) | Sales Marketing Department and the Project Scenario 1: If the market is currently in an economic recession and the polypropylene industry is heading towards a downturn, thus sales amount will decrease. In this case, even though the project will result in additional production at lower cost, it will not be fully utilized as the demand of polypropylene decreases and any additional output will be stored in inventory, which will in turn increase the storage cost. Scenario 2: In an economic recovery, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. I Am A International Competitor I am a learner. I am a sporting competitor. I am not afraid of failure. I am eager to learn the lessons required to reach the top. I dare say it is a very pleasurable mix. My views on learning are not extraordinary. They are however centred on comprehensive and investigative approaches to engineering problems. I am happiest when I am identifying problems in a complex circuit, in control systems, logic and digital circuits or simply the detection of flaws in coding. When the problem is accessible and simultaneously acts as an intellectual stimulant I recognise an automatic leveraging of inner resources and a gearing up of the mind to solve the issue. I find myself thinking furiously adopting several parallel courses of action and a range of approaches which will result in the best fastest solution to the problem. The entire exercise is meditative with the focus resting solely on the end result. Every problem can be solved at different levels of abstraction and by implementing different strategies. So then, the knowledge base acquired through class lectures and the committed guidance from tutors, from peer reviewed journals and publications, from interactive workshops and seminars, from the engaging technical discussions and debates comprise the raw material to work with. What a qualified professional does with the vast pools of information largely decides the shape his career takes. The vast application potential and tremendous scope for a successful career in the field ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Personal Integrity And Personality Integrity is defined in dictionary.com as adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty ( Integrity , n.d.), but what does it also mean be to have moral and ethical principles? The apostle Paul wrote a personal letter to Titus encouraging him in his ministry and shows him what integrity looks like. The letter that Paul wrote can be applied to both spiritual and personal integrity. When one has personal growth it affects ones integrity because he or she can go about their lives more boldly. In Titus chapter 2: 1 12 it states: 1 You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. 2 Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. 3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. 6 Similarly, encourage the young men to be self controlled. 7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us. 9 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to ... • 7. How the Internet has Affected the US Postal Service Is the Internet Hurting the US Postal Service, or Helping? The United States Postal Service has been around since 1775. Over the years the United States Postal Service has grown and changed with America (USPS). In the Last 230 years the Postal service has evolved greatly. Mail has been delivered from foot to horseback, then to stagecoach. From stagecoach to railroad, and from railroad to Air. Now due to the advances in the internet, mail is being delivered by e mail (Kamarck, Para 1). Many believe that the internet may very well be the down fall of the United States Postal Service. Since 1970 the Unites States Postal Service has been self sufficient. The Post Office generates its revenue from selling stamps and other postage, and the many other services that it offers (Nocera, Para 5). The only thing is that the Post Office is loosing money instead of making money. The internet began to have an effect almost as soon as Americans went online. Between 1998 and 2002 the pieces of first class mail dropped from 54.3 billion to 49 billion pieces. This has only continued to accelerate over the years. In 2004 the Postal Service delivered 48 billion pieces of first class mail and in 2008 they delivered 39 billion pieces. (Kamarck, Para 5). In 2005 the lost cost the Postal Service $20 Billion (Nocera, Para 2). The dramatic reduction of first class mail is due to the internet moving personal and business correspondence from paper mail to e mail (Kamarck, Para ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the documentary film has no story at all, it also does not have continuity of action. This 1929 documentary made use of montage where images were edited together without visible or apparent connection between shots. This documentary film is considered as one of the greatest films of all time. It has neither actors nor story. It basically follows a camera man and his views of the Russian city. It is about film techniques and the process required in making one. Vertov believed that a camera has the power to unveil those aspects of the filmed events which otherwise cannot be perceived. During that time, there are variety of camera angles and editing styles and techniques that are being demonstrated in films. And one important aspects of this particular documentary film that is visible as the scene progresses is the type of montage used. Lastly, the film cuts back to the woman cleaning her face and starting blinking as the windows starts to open and close at the same time (simultaneously with her blinking). • 10. A Brief Look at France II. Essay One The state which we today call France has undergone significant change since its origins as the territory of Gaul. Between the years 480 and 1780, this territory was reshaped in terms of both its physical boundaries and its inhabitants and rulers, creating a rich history of the nation of modern France. First, in order to analyze the evolution of the state of France, it is necessary to define the concept of the state. A state is a territory, defined by physical or imagined boundaries, containing a population of people that is governed by a select few of those people. Within the state, the government has authority and the power to impose their power on the rest of the population, enacting laws such as taxation, fighting wars, and implementing a criminal justice system. It is now appropriate to consider the territorial expansion and, at times, contraction of France from 480 and 1780. Before France was united in any kind of Frankish state, the territory we now call France was mostly comprised of an area called Gaul. This area, existing in parts of Spain and Rome, parts of present day Belgium, Germany, Austria and other European nations, and south of England and the English channel, was inhabited by the Gauls up until the end of Roman rule in the 1st 3rd centuries CE. The region was populated by tribes and loosely connected governing bodies up until the 5th century CE, when it first began to take shape under Clovis. In addition, pagans and Christians both produced similar non verbal, iconographical images that pointed to a shared conceptual backcloth in which both pagans and Christians had a prior agreement in a form of life. This form is largely defined through the relationship between death and the afterlife. One such form involves the iconographical depictions of events that occurred in the catacombs themselves refrigeria meals (in the Christian case) to commemorate the apostles and future saints Peter and Paul, or even the deaths of everyday Christians. The benefit of association provided by collective catacomb burial, as well as artistic depictions of virtues on tombs, was one that crossed different religious and class groups; these associations suggest that, at least up until the third century, these types of shared experiences were an important way for an individual to connect their life (and death) to wider society as a whole. This, in turn, helped people make sense of the world that both Christians and pagans lived in. Thus, it is sufficient to say that Christian catacomb art, compared to pagan catacomb art, does not necessarily reflect any distinctly more confident belief in the afterlife than the other; rather, art served as a sort of consolation between the life one lived and how they hoped to be remembered after death, especially in the lower class. Yet, just like burial, Christian art was a way for Christians to find specific meaning in their collective Roman experience. The emergence of Christian art reflected the emergence of a characteristically Christian social identity, one that revolved primarily around the interpretation of biblical narratives. While it is true that both Christians and pagans used similar artistic types, it is also true that even when similar iconographical figures were depicted, Christians and pagans were attracted to icons that reflected their specific religious beliefs. Seemingly mirroring this social landscape is the physical landscape of the English countryside. In a pivotal scene in which the novel s protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet, ventures to the home of her future husband, Austen uses the natural landscape to show how Elizabeth, born of the landed gentry class but with no financial stability, physically ascends to the location of Mr. Darcy, her love interest and a wealthy gentleman. Austen uses the word business to emphasize how, more than anything, marriage is an economic institution meant to guarantee that Mrs. Bennet s daughters not die of starvation. Austen then uses the rest of the novel to track the Bennet sisters and their ability to find financial security through the ascension of social classes via marriage. This ascension is ultimately epitomized by the novel s protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet, who rises from her family s (relatively) low station to become the wife of the wealthy Mr. Darcy. The landscape of England itself seems to mirror that ascension. But in case of many traits it so happens that the trait is expressed in only one sex (i.e., sex limited traits), or when the trait is expressed after the death of the animal (i.e., slaughter traits), then the breeding value (B.V.) of the animal can be estimated based on the performance of the relatives (dam, sisters and progeny). Problem of small population size can be avoided if the sires are simultaneously tested in different associated herds or even by field progeny testing programmes. The artist repetitively quotes this line throughout the song to effectively remind his listeners of his gratefulness to have a valuable mother. In the first verse of the song, Shakur informs the audience of a pessimistic aspect of his life, where he is thrown out of the house. Yet, he still yearns to see his mother and shows a nostalgic attitude toward the situation. In the second verse the artist expresses feelings of enmity towards his father who was not there for him. This allows me as a listener to conclude that Shakur s mother had to play the role of both a mother and father which further elevates a higher appreciation for his love towards her. Evidently, he demonstrates his gratefulness by giving her a diamond necklace which symbolizes great worth. Shakur indicates that she is not only a parent but also a loyal ... Analysis of A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor In Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard To Find, one is struck by the unexpected violence at the end of the story. However, if you re read the story a second time, you will see definite signs that foreshadow the grotesque ending. The story begins with the typical nuclear family being challenged by the grandmother who doesn t want to take the vacation to Florida. She has read about a crazed killer by the name of the Misfit who is on the run heading for Florida. Unfortunately, she is ignored by every member of the family except for the little girl, June Star, who can read the grandmother like an open book. The fact that she admonishes Bailey, her son, of this Misfit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A strong foreshadowing imagery can be read into these lines. Knowing the definite ending of the story, the grandmother?s elaborate dress symbolizes a preparation for her coffin. When a person dies, they usually are dressed in their best outfit, just like the grandmother was dressed in what seemed to be her Sunday best. A stronger foreshadowing is when O?Connor states the reason for the grandmother?s immaculate dress, in case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady. She herself predicts her own death. Unfortunately, she doesn? t know this yet. Although this is beyond the parameters of this essay, it is interesting that in the grandmother s mind wearing her best clothes prevent any misgivings about her status as a lady IF she was to die. But as the Misfit later points out, there never was a body that gave the undertaker a tip. The grandmother s perceived readiness for death is a stark contrast to her behavior when she encounters the Misfit; for she shows herself to be the least prepared for death. As the trip progresses, the children reveal themselves as funny, spoiled brats. O Connor s desire to illustrate the lost respect for the family and elders among the young is quite apparent in her illustrations of the children. One evidently notices another foreshadowing image when the family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Importance Of Guns And The Right To Carry Guns Guns and the right to carry them is such a debatable topic in today s society. So many different people have their opinions on how people should use their guns or where they can and can t carry them. They have this misconception that guns are such a big problem and that they kill people, but in reality guns are not the problem at all it is the people holding them. Even though guns can be dangerous, guns are used for good more than bad. Getting a conceal carry permit is something that has very precise steps to follow in order to obtain it. You are required to be at least 21 years of age. If for some reason you are ineligible to purchase a firearm then you are no longer able to get the permit to conceal a handgun. A person that has been convicted of a violent misdemeanor or drunkenness in the last three years will be rejected if applied for a conceal carry permit. As you can see a lot goes into obtaining the permit to be able to conceal a handgun. After a very thorough background check gets cleared for the applicant the court may require proof that the applicant can demonstrate competence with a handgun. This includes: completion of a firearm training course offered by the NRA, the state, or school (Virginia Gun Laws). Also a lot more goes into it. Many choose to conceal carry instead of open carry for a couple of different reasons. When you conceal a handgun nobody knows you have the gun. Scientists believe that in the future that the sea level of the San Francisco Bay will rise and flood several of the San Francisco Bay Area s populated areas and landmarks such as the San Francisco and Oakland International Airport. How could we prevent or slow down the bay from taking over our landmarks and populated areas? Around 10,000 years ago the San Francisco Bay was once not a bay. The glaciers from the ice age melted into water and then the water flowed into canyons to form into the San Francisco Bay. However the flowing of the bay may not have stopped. The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission predicts that the sea level will increase so much the sea will take over and flood populated areas and landmarks like the San Francisco and the Oakland International Airports. Now while most may know the meanings of the previously stated indicators, for those who don t, they remain useless unless defined. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obviously unemployed rate is defined as the fraction of the labor force that is unemployed . To define the unemployed is important as well, because it refers to those that have no job, but are actively looking for work, not to those who are not working and are uninterested in searching or getting a job . The reason that unemployment is so important in determining the economy s success is because it is intertwined with the gross domestic product, as in when the gross domestic product falls, unemployment is increased, and when it rises, there is a decrease in unemployment . To make what is being explained clearer, when there is unemployment, production is down; therefore there is less money and goods produced out of the economy. This is how unemployment relates as well. The last indicator to be defined is probably the most the important of them all, and that is the gross domestic product. The gross domestic product is defined as the total market value of all the final goods and services produced within an economy in a given year . There are two types of gross domestic product, real and nominal. Real GDP is adjusted to how prices have changed, as nominal GDP is the current price as it is calculated . There is so very much that goes into the gross domestic product that in this analysis only the percent change from the years will be shown as important. A percent that is positive is obviously ... According to Winters, 96% of Americans suffer from codependency. Codependency is referred to as a national epidemic, because almost every form of compulsive behavior can be classified as an addiction (1996). Knowing this staggering statistic, we must ask ourselves: How are we contributing to our own codependency? Being codependent (being addicted to something or someone), can be viewed in two different ways. A codependent marital relationships, has been termed by various family therapists, as over adequate versus inadequate functioning of each of the spouses (Bowen, 1960). In addition to familiar addictions such as alcohol dependence, drug dependence, and smoking, addictive behavior has been associated with food, exercise, work, and even relationships with others (codependency) (Strickland, 2001). • 37. The Decameron Was A Collection Of Bawdy And Serious Tales... Professor Mark Bocija, History 1111 Rezvan Ngalla November 16, 2015 The Decameron Black Death. The Decameron was a collection of bawdy and serious tales written by Boccaccio. Boccaccio was most likely born in Florence or Certaldo and was the illegitimate son of a wealthy Florentine merchant, Bocacino di Chellino. As a youth he was trained to follow in his father s business but he eventually chose instead to study canon law and subsequently pursued the arts. It is a combination of Greek words for ten and day. According to Frankforter, the Decameron is a fictive record of a hundred stories that ten Florentine men and women told to entertain themselves while they hid from the plague in the comfort of a luxurious house (Frankforter, pg. 348). The one hundred allegorical stories are shared through the narrative voices of these young people as they spend their nights regaling the company with tales from the erotic, sensual, and bawdy to the intellectual, philosophical or tragic. The narrative s fundamental theme is of struggle between life and death in the face of the Black Plague and the various ways life continues in spite of traditional moral attitudes and beliefs. While primarily a work of fiction, the Introduction to The Decameron has emerged as an important historical record of the physical, psychological, and social effects of the aggressive spread of the previously unknown Yersina pestis bacteria. • 39. Kentucky s Role During The Civil War Kentucky s Role during the Civil War The world has faced the dangers of war almost since the beginnings of time, and America in the mid 1800 s was no different. Despite the Union having won its freedom from England during the Revolutionary War less than a century before, problems were brewing internally within the young and rapidly expanding country. As slavery boomed in the southern states, the North grew less and less content with this state of affairs. It is said that to southern whites, the Republican victory in 1860 presented an immediate danger to the slave owning republic that had existed since 1776 (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). Southerners were not ready to lose one of their most valuable commodities, slaves, which they feared would happen under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln, although he promised to safeguard slavery where it existed but vowed to prevent its expansion (Henretta, 2012, p. 420). Unheeding of Lincoln s vows, and hoping to preserve the individual state s rights, radical southerners chose the dangerous enterprise of secession (Henretta, 2012, p. 418). This secession began first in the state of South Carolina, when on December 20, 1860 a unanimous vote was taken to dissolve the union now subsisting between South Carolina and the other states (Henretta, 2012, p.418). This idea of secession spread quickly to the surrounding southern states, resulting in five other states declaring secession within the month. At a meeting of the seceding ...
