The excitement and nervousness of starting a new journey by attending a community college or
university is always overwhelming, but it is always overlooked the various dangers of relocating to a

National Sexual Violence Resource Center one in five women and one and 16 men are sexually
assaulted while in college. Within that statistic 90% of the victims do not report the attacks. Colleges
across the globe today are required to address the warning signals and procedures to follow in the
event of a sexual encounters. Upon new academic school years activist and administrators work to
benefit schools on approaching sexual violence encounters.

Sir Isaac Newton And Albert Einstein
Sir Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein are though by many to be two of the greatest scientific minds to
exist since the scientific enlightenment. Although they existed nearly 150 years apart, their work is
still used in modern technology. Many people think of Newton only as the person who thought about
gravity and Einstein as the one who made an equation, but these two scientific revolutionaries are
much more complex. Newton and Einstein may have had very different personal lives, but they are
both scientist whose contributions to society are still relevant today.
On January 4, 1643 Isaac Newton was born in Lincolnshire, England according to Biography.com.
The soon to be revolutionary came from humble beginnings. Newton s father, a ... Show more content

For the first time, he graduated with the highest honors. During years of multiple marriages and
affairs, Einstein rose to fame in science. During this time, he also became very outspoken against
racism as a result of the events in WWII Germany and twentieth century America. Seventy six years
later, he died of a rupture in his aorta in New Jersey Biogrophy.com said.
Isaac Newton is seen by historians as an unusual man while Albert Einstein, not seen as a social
butterfly, is a lot more conventional than Newton. To begin, Newton is reported to never have any
romantic contact with anyone. Even when his life settled down, he did not get married as most of his
colleagues did. On the other hand, Einstein s fascination with women is profound. In most of his
personal papers, he talks of how monogamy is not a natural human idea and he never is loyal to a
single woman. He is reported to get married twice. On a different note, the religious beliefs of the two
men varies greatly. Newton has written many books on his strong Christian beliefs. All of his work
strengthened his belief in God. In contrast, Einstein would never accept a personal God and his belief
in one is at discussion to this day. Even though they have great personal differences, both men are
scientist and have a child like wonder that propels their work.
Secondly, the work of both men is similar yet contradictory.

The Rise Of Globalization And Commercial Nationalism
Consuming The Consumer
The rise of globalization has created a demand for consumable goods on a scale never before seen on
Earth. For the first time in the history of the world, products can be sold and purchased by almost
anyone, everywhere at anytime. This, coupled with the rise of credit purchasing throughout the
industrialized world has granted buying power to even the lowest classes of the world s population.
Consumerism as it stands is not sustainable. Product Branding has the ability to place value on
everything from education to cell phones. With that in mind, we find ourselves buying experiences
and goods we rarely require, but are often told we need. Consequently, brand recognition may also be
applied to developing countries wishing to establish a marketable identity. These countries seek to
create an economic advantage through national branding that can improve loyalty as well as a sense
individual belonging of its citizens.
Nevertheless both global consumerism and commercial nationalism need to be considered when
looking at the benefits or detriments of branding.
In 1902, Thorstein Veblen labeled a middle section of society as the Leisure Class. This class
possessed purchasing power beyond basic necessities. This class required goods that set them apart
from the other (and often lower) classes of society. They wished to differentiate themselves by
reflecting status through possessed goods. Veblen writes, In order to be reputable it [goods] must be

Citizenship Paper
Theodore Roosevelt s The Duties of American Citizenship Speech
Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States of America. He is noted for his
enthusiastic personality, range of interests and achievements, and his leadership of the Progressive
Movement. Before becoming President, he held offices at the city, state, and federal levels. Roosevelt
s achievements as a naturalist, explorer, hunter, author, and soldier are as much a part of his fame as
any office he held as a politician. On January 26, 1883 in Buffalo, New York Roosevelt delivered a
speech that reveals his ideas of what an ideal citizen is and what his role in the community should be.

The good citizen will education his family and his community by being a role model and preforming
his civic duties. Roosevelt shapes his ideas of citizenship around how a man treats the people around
him which impacts the entire community. Roosevelt s ideal citizen focuses more on the lived
experience of a man and his actions in community which reflect on public engagement. President
Roosevelt focuses more on the individual person and he gives examples of how a good citizen should
be because that one person has the power to impact more than just his self. Roosevelt says, In a free
republic the ideal citizen must be one willing and able to take arms for the defense of the flag, exactly
as the ideal citizen must be the father of many healthy children. Although the same expectations are
felt in Roosevelt s time and today, Roosevelt puts more emphasis on it because the educational
advantages are present. President Roosevelt believes a good citizen with strong moral character will
raise strong children and teach them the values he was taught. He says, A race must be strong and
vigorous; it must be a race of good fighters and good breeders, else its wisdom will come to naught
and its virtue be ineffective. President Roosevelt is saying without the teachings of good citizenship in
the home, future generations will lose the true meaning of citizenship. All of Roosevelt s
characteristics of the good citizen involve education. A man cannot know what it

The Drinking Age Should Remain 18 Years Old in Australia
These days there are a number of social issues in the community, such as drug abuse, teenage
pregnancy and alcohol abuse. Alcohol abuse is rampant in today s society, Australian Drug Foundation
states that, Alcohol is the most widely used psychoactive, or mood changing, recreational drug in
Australia. (Healey, 2002, p. 11). Underage drinking and binge drinking are some of the problems
associated with alcohol abuse.
Most countries and cultures across the world experience these issues with 83% of the world
population being allowed to drink at the age of 18, and the remaining 17% of the world population are

This is a custom that pervades every class in
the colony, and cannot be departed from without something more than a breach of good manners. (
Drinking Etiquette, n.d.)
Alcohol helps people remove their barriers; lose their inhibitions, and form friendships, relationships,
and acts as a social lubricant. In Australia many business deals have been conducted over a drink or
two.
In addition to the Australian drinking culture, at 18 years old you are legally an adult. Thus, society
has many expectations of young adults such as employment and study. Australian policies allow 18
year olds to vote, marry, drive a vehicle, and obtain a gun license; furthermore, it is 18 year olds right
as an adult to drink. Eighteen year olds could vote to change government, get married, have children,
enter into legally binding contracts and were treated as adults by the justice system, Queensland
Premier Anna Bligh said on a matter. (News, 2010). Before the Vietnam War in 1962 the legal
drinking age in Australia was 21. The drinking age in Australia was lowered to 18 from 21 during the
Vietnam War on the grounds that if 18 year olds could be conscripted, they should have the right to
vote and drink as well. (Urban, 2009). Therefore, the law has been previously changed and it would be
unadvisable to change the law again; these changes

Milton Friedman s The Hong Kong Essay
I believe that the only plausible explanation for the different rates of growth is socialism in Britain,
free enterprise and free markets in Hong Kong. Has anybody got a better explanation? I d be grateful
for any suggestions. Milton Friedman asks us this in his 1998 essay: The Hong Kong Experiment.
Milton Friedman was part and founder of a school of economic thinkers called the Chicago School.
This group believed strongly in the power of Capitalism, and although there are many definitions for
this form of economic policy, Friedman and this paper us the following definition: the organization of
the bulk of economic activity through private enterprise operating in a free market . Friedman in the
aforementioned essay attempts to show us the benefits which a capitalist nation has over a socialist
one. He uses, specifically, the case studies of the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Israel. Through
these examples he postulates that it was Hong Kong s capitalist policies which allowed it to succeed
economically. There is no debating that Hong Kong is something of an economic miracle. The island
began as small rock covered with a few fishing villages, and ended up being a world economic power.
Friedman, however, makes the error of oversimplifying the situation of Hong Kong in the thesis of his
essay. Hong Kong, by its very nature, does not exist in isolation. It is greatly affected by world
politics, long history, and its own geography. We must understand Hong Kong s success as a

The Theme Of Conflict In The Shunned House
The Shunned House
Discuss Lovecraft s description of the house over the course of the story. Be sure to include details
from the beginning middle and end of the story.
Lovecraft describes the house as though it looked gloomy and torn down.
..the shunned house was vacant, with barren, gnarled, and terrible old trees, long, queerly pale grass,
and nightmarishly misshapen weeds.. ..The small paned windows were largely broken, and a nameless
air of desolation hung round the precarious panelling, shaky interior shutters, peeling wall paper,
falling plaster, rickety staircases, and such fragments of battered furniture as still remained..
(Lovecraft V.8)
Defend whether the narrator is a reliable narrator or not.
The narrator in The Shunned House, can fit in the unreliable category. As the story continues, the
narrator admits to lying to other characters, and presents a rather unreal story. The narrator says,
..Later I told Harris only through sheer necessity, and because he had heard odd tales from old people
which disposed him ever so little toward belief, (Lovecraft. V. 8.).
Describe the conflict in the story. Be sure to include what type of conflict it is, how it starts, develops
and is resolved.
The conflict in the short story is all of the events that happen in it throughout the short story the house
is said to give off bad vibes. There is a certain scene where the narrator awakens to an ear deafening

Popper Falsification
Popper termed the idea of falsification as a means of separating science from non science. The
separation of science and non science became known as the problem of Demarcation. He believed that
any theory was scientific on the basis that such theories could have possible evidence to suggest that
the theory was wrong. Conversely, a notion would be deemed unscientific if no contradictory evidence
could be gathered. An example of Demarcation is the separation of Einstein s theory of relativity and
Freud s psychoanalytic theory (section 2). Popper saw Einstein s theory as making predictions that
could potential be incorrect and that such examples would falsify the entire theory. Conversely, Freud
s psychoanalytic theory was capable of explaining most of human behavior without contradictory
evidence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this, using observations cannot completely verify a theory, it would only verify what a
scientist would be looking for. On the other hand, searching for counterexamples to a theory can
falsify the theory. In addition, falsification allows more questions to be raised to search for
contradiction evidence. This search for falsification of a theory is consequently a better methodology
for separating science from non science(section 3). In addition, Popper believed all scientific theories
as being tests for falsification and not verification. This extends into the idea that no theory is a
universal truth, but only that contradictory evidence has not been found for such a

General Workforce Issues for Women Globally
The textile industry is an immediate topic of discussion when examining female working conditions
globally. Today, with 1.3 billion women employed, females constitute 52% of the participation in the
workforce (Source #2). Despite their large participation and slow move towards occupation
acceptance in the developed world, women still face many trials that stem from gender based
discrimination, especially within developing countries. The textile and garment industry constitutes
most likely the largest sector of manufacturing and profit production for many countries and therefore
will be the concentration of this paper to represent the working conditions for the majority of people
(WIEGO). Since females comprise 85% of the global garment industry, their gender role is relevant in
all processes (SOMO, 2011). This paper seeks to explain general workforce issues for women
globally, including specific Latin American country examples, what should be done to improve
working conditions, and what is currently being done. At first, the benefits provided by the North
American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) were enough to give Latin American countries an edge to
hold off tight competition from other developing countries. However, in 1995, World Trade
Organization (WTO) agreed to gradually remove the 1974 Multi Fiber Agreement that installed a
quota system which limited countries such as China on the amount of products they could export to
developed countries (source #1). The elimination

The Pleasures Of Antiquity By Jonathan Scott Summary
About Grand Tour In the document The Pleasures of Antiquity by Jonathan Scott, the author talks
about Englishmen during period of Grand Tour. He goes in more dept about Charles Townley, who
was one of the representative of the Grand Tour era and devoted to antique art works. Jonathan Scott
explains the details about what Charles Townley bought and whom he bought them from, stories about
relationships between the sellers and Townley, and what he did to his collection of art works. Then he
talks broadly about Grand Tour of upper class Englishmen after Townley s death and Napoleon
conquering Rome. After death of Townley and conquering of Napoleon of Rome, many Englishmen

The author states about how Townley had certain standards like he did not desire the statues made of
marbles to be grind to make the statues look smooth or damaged (Scott 200). Unlike Townley, those
Englishmen, who were connoisseurs during Napoleonic era, bought any art works that were called or
claimed antique even if the prices were ridiculously high. Moreover, Townley made museum like
homes to share his interest of antique arts with other citizens and fellow enlightened men. Also, he
carefully planned and placed art works/statues in his house to make them look more aesthetically
pleasing and balanced. On the other hand, British connoisseurs did not care about the placement of the
statues, but only cared to have the statues to show that they are upper class or connoisseurs who
collect valuable antique art works (Scott 209). Author expresses the contrasts of the collecting antique

The Role Of Women In The Dark Ages
The catastrophic collapse of the Roman Empire plunged Europe into darkness, amongst the chaos,
progress was hindered and a time known as the Dark Ages emerged. From the shadows of destruction
rose the Kingdom of England, prosperous in it s own right, but ultimately weakened by the turmoil of
medieval times.Famine and plague ran rapidly through all of Europe, aided by climate deterioration
and chronic malnourishment. No sword compared to the unforgiving blade of The Black Death, a
plague more ferocious than any disease known to man. Anglo Saxon invasions and mighty Viking
raids covered England in thick crimson, but through suffering the eras vibrancy and complexity came
to surface. Hidden underneath the connotation of the word Dark , lies defining social ideals of the
Dark Ages that approached the different aspects of life in a way never done before. Though
inaccurately named the Dark Ages, the roles of women, the prominence of religion, feudalism,
medieval art and the legend of King Arthur, all stand as great examples of progressive thinking at the
time.
The grey skies of a society completely dominated by men, left equality a fleeting vision for women in
the Dark Ages. That being said, women were subservient objects simply used for the benefit of
men, with roles and position defined by the morality and social expectations of the church. The biblical
depiction of Eve convinced the people that women were inherently weaker and inferior to men. This
became the basis for all

Example Of Civil Disobedience
Doing the right thing is difficult. One is required to make decisions that may not be the popular choice
in the public s eyes. To show what s right, one must take a peaceful stand on an issue against authority
and be willing to face consequences. This is the act of civil disobedience. Civil disobedience is a
tough concept to grasp. People have a hard time doing the right thing when the authority tells us to do
otherwise because they do not want to be reprimanded and have the burden that something bad might
happen to them. An example of civil disobedience would be the midwives. The midwives were
Egyptian, and they saved the little Jewish boys, even though they were told to kill them. The text
states that the midwives feared god , but in fact, they did the right thing. Rambam states that Pharaoh s
policy said, If the latter did not wish to pursue his policy of discrimination openly so, as not to arouse
opposition to the atrocity involved. This applies to the Jewish woman because if we say that the
midwives were Egyptian, another message becomes visible. The Torah states that a person can resist
evil, and they do not have to take orders from superiors. Civil Disobedience is then brought about
because the midwives were not jewish, but they were righteous egyptian women. Being in the wrong
to authority seems worse than not helping people, but if anyone genuinely thinks that, I believe they re
false. Peacefully going against the norm is completely fair. Although, there

Third Grade ELA Classroom Analysis
Third grade composition is very subjective to instruction. Teaching students the basic structure of
literature is a key component to helping them to communicate in a meaningful way. One of the basic
concepts to literature is identifying the importance of the main idea and supporting details in writing.
There are a variety of ways to explore the concept of the main idea and supporting details of literary
works. Mrs. Peterson tackled this exact concept with her third grade ELA class using a variety of
instructional strategies and learning activities.
Mrs. Peterson began her lesson by using a goal setting strategy. This strategy was utilized by
beginning with the end result in mind. Mrs. Peterson framed the lesson by stating what the learning
objectives and goals were for her students before the lesson even took place. She also posted the
learning objectives on the board for students to view during the lesson. This tactic is helpful in case
students get off track, they can easily be reminded what the desired results are for the end of the
lesson.
Once lesson objectives were clearly communicated, Mrs. Peterson integrated academic vocabulary
using notes from the previous lesson. Journaling is a strategy that is used on a daily basis in Mrs. ...

associated with Jessica s actions. If an agent or employee commits a tort while pursuing his or her own
interests, the tort is not within the scope of the agency or employment, and neither the principal nor
the employer would be liable. (J., amp; D., 2010) Since this was not the case with Jessica, liability

Company s insurance premiums go up across the board and typically business will incur large legal

The Wicked Step Grandmother s Lament
One of the world s best known stories is that of Cinderella. Variations of this tale exist in cultures all
across the world from Spanish America to Russia to Vietnam, and it has been pulled apart and
reimagined into several different forms on the page, stage, and screen. But the incarnation of the story
that is probably the most familiar is the one by Charles Perrault, with its signature Fairy Godmother
and glass slippers. Despite being published in 1697, it is still popular enough that it was remade for
the umpteenth time earlier this year. While the tale obviously has a timeless appeal, its ideological

she did was immoral, her reasoning behind why she did it was understandable: All I wanted was for

her own life...instead of waiting and waiting and waiting for something or someone to come shining
out of the dark and force safety on her (Hallett and Karasek, The Wicked Stepmother s Lament by

The main goal of Sharp Healthcare is to increase employees, physicians, and patient satisfaction as

However, only two of the five behaviors and actions are related to employee motivation. The most
relevant of two requires managerial level employees to foster an attitude of gratitude and send thank
you notes to other deserving employees. A recent study by MarketTools Inc. for Globoforce confirms
that a lack of sincere recognition provided to employees is a leading cause of turnover. The study
identifies a solid correlation between the level of recognition delivered by managers and the loyalty of
their direct reports (Sun). Thus, thank you notes are cheap and simple yet sincere and an effective way
of showing recognition to employees which will increase their loyalty and motivation.

Overpopulation And The Problem Of Overpopulation
To begin with, in demography, the term overpopulation refers to a condition wherein the total
population of a particular region far exceeds the carrying capacity of the region. Although the term by
and large refers to the ratio between population and the available area, the ratio between the
population and available resources cannot be ignored. First, the rate at which the population is
growing; the data compiled by the United Nations shows that the world population grew by 30 percent
between 1990 and 2010.
Second, the distribution of population; with China and India making up approximately 47 percent of
the total world population as of today. Next, there are several causes of overpopulation. Significant
improvement in quality of life and basic health services has resulted in decline in death rate on one
hand, and increase in the birth rate on the other. Continuous migration of people from underdeveloped
areas to developed areas has triggered an unnatural growth in population in developed areas, thus,
putting immense pressure on available resources. Our failure in understanding the problems caused by
overpopulation in urban areas is reflected in unplanned growth of newer towns and cities. More
importantly, a look at the projected population growth is even more horrendous, which in itself
stresses on the fact that we are not learning from our mistakes. Furthermore, there are many problems
caused by overpopulation. A series of interwoven problems, all of which are

moment to be better. I tried my hardest to be the best and do the best. I would race my six year old
brother, Rigo, running as fast as my little legs could move. Breathing heavily and legs feeling like
jello I would race him over and over again. I was a determined little girl that was going to beat him in

America As A Land Of Opportunity Meaning
The song presents America as a land of opportunity. It represents the idea that one can achieve a high
level of success and wealth in the United States. It accomplishes this by presenting two perspectives of
the American dream in the first and second verse of the song. Then the two stories are tied together
with a chorus that instils hope for these two Americas. The first verse talks about a young girl on the
other side of the ocean whose dream is to come to the United States because she believes the one can

How Did Plato Argue The Soul
In this brief segment of Plato s work he is trying to argue that the soul, rather than being one, actually
has different parts. He claims and tries to justify that the soul must have three different parts to it, each
responsible for creating different urges that a person has. On page 111 of Plato s Republic he
establishes that the same one thing will not experience opposites within the same one part of itself
over the same thing, at the same time. So, therefore if someone finds this occurring in the soul it can
be established that the soul is not one but instead made out of different parts. He then shows an
example of this occurring in the soul in order to argue the soul does indeed have parts. On pages 114
and 115 he says that someone can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The premise of the same thing will not undergo opposites within the same part of itself in regards to
the same thing at the exact same time, so therefore when the soul gives you two opposite urges (e.g.
thirsty but you don t want to get a drink) it proves that the soul must have different parts, is a premise
that I do indeed agree with. I believe what Plato is saying here as I do not think the same part of one s
soul can be responsible for making someone have two completely opposite urges. I also agree with the
premise that there is a third part to the soul, the spirit. At first I questioned it thinking that this was
indeed one in the same with the rational but then the good point is made that small children are clearly
full with spirit yet are not rational so therefore they cannot be one in the same. This argument sold me
on the third part of the soul. The one argument I couldn t get on board with was when Plato wrote that
thirst is just for drink, and not one of a specific kind. I think that personally one can be craving a
specific type of drink, regardless of environment, (e.g. orange juice) and their thirst will not be
quenched by any drink but by only the drink they are craving. Plato makes it seem that one cannot
urge a specific drink but only drink in general. Although I do disagree with that specific part, in the
end the overall argument was

way back in time before dogs existed. Now, wolves gradually evolved into dogs. A wolf and a dog
are the same species. They also have the same DNA. Hunting dogs are more related to wolves.
Some people long ago tried to breed dogs by changing their features. For example, a doberman
pinscher got most of its tail cut off. Now they have such small tails! A corgi has a natural tail. A great
dane has surgically cut ears so that they are standing up. A scottish terrier looks like it has a beard but
its just that the hair on its neck got shaved off.

advantages. But they also need lots of treatment. Mixes are less likely to many diseases than pure

were thought as strange and incapable of obeying and controlling themselves. They were left out of
obedience competitions. So in that case, mixes usually didn t compete. Mix breeds are hard to classify
since they are made of two breeds. Also, their maturity is less predictable than the pure breeds. But
mix
mixed breeds also have a higher intelligence average than pure breeds. Also a higher intelligence

they are healthier and more long lived than pure breed dogs. Mixes are also preferable because they

Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v. Board of Education Picture this: a world with no color. Would racism
still exist? Or would people be discriminated based on other things such as height, weight, or the
sound of their voice? We may never know the answer to these questions. Racism is still alive in the
United States, but it is not as severe and oppressive as it was during the era of the Jim Crow laws. The
13th amendment freed the slaves in the United States, however, not many white Americans agreed
with this. The 13th amendment did not shield the African Americans from oppression, The segregation

There was no clarification on what race would be considered white or what would be considered
black. During this incident, Homer Plessy, who was seven eighths white and one eighth African
American, purchased a rail ticket for travel within Louisiana and took a seat in a car reserved for white
passengers. (The state Supreme Court had ruled earlier that the law could not be applied to interstate
travel.) After refusing to move to a car for African Americans, he was arrested and charged with
violating the Separate Car Act. (Duignan 2017). Judge Ferguson ruled that the separation was fair and
did not violate the fourteenth amendment. The state Supreme Court also backed up this decision. The
case was brought to the Supreme Court and The law was challenged in the Supreme Court on grounds
that it conflicted with the 13th and 14th Amendments. By a 7 1 vote, the Court said that a state law
that implies merely a legal distinction between the two races did not conflict with the 13th
Amendment forbidding involuntary servitude, nor did it tend to reestablish such a condition.
(History.com Staff 2009). This decision set the key precedent of Separate but Equal in the United

The Fall Of Berlin 1945 Analysis
In Anthony s Beevor s book The Fall of Berlin 1945 , his forward opens with a statement from Albert
Speer, the Reich Minister of Armaments and War Production for Nazi Germany. He stated the
following: History always emphasizes terminal events. Ironically, his text should refer to the pending
Cold War between the two former Allies, Russian and the United States. The conditions for World War
II were drawn from the experiences, defeats and conditions set forward from the Treaty of Versailles
ending World War I. While these events created the political conditions for Adolph Hitler s rise to
power; the harshness of the imposed by the French; the Great Depression which crippled the
Western Nations and the failure of the League of Nations; the concessions made by the British
government appeasements of Hitler; led to the conditions for the start of the War.
War has always been a come as you are not with the military you wanted to have. Time and resources
are the most critical factors in preparing for war. This can only be accomplished by leadership (both
civilian and military) that sets forth on a track to plan for the next war. World War II was dominated
by numerous errors on both the Allied and Axis nations. The nation that was able to identify those
errors and correct them quickly won. However, World War II was the first technology war of mankind.
For nearly every technological advancement, there was a counter technology. For example, German

Essay On White Privilege
The central argument expressed by Marcus is that white privilege is not a result of a political agenda
as was previously stated by Tim Wise, but rather a psychological one. He goes on to say that because
the issue is not based on policy, the government cannot legislate it. He explained that, almost all
scientific evidence produced to describe the nature of any individual based on race is bunk also adding
that, only when everyone views snap judgments about individuals based on race as the absurd
equivalent of such judgments based on hair or eye color, will the great moral victory over bigotry be
won (Marcus). I agree with the author that white privilege is spread by individuals and not based on
policy. However, I disagree that white privilege ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of white privilege is important because some white people deny it s existence.
According to Peggy McIntosh it is an invisible package of unearned assets, which I (Peggy McIntosh)
can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious. White privilege is
like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions maps, passports, code books, visas, clothes,
tools, and blank checks (McIntosh, 1988). Often times, white people sees the benefits of white
privilege as those belonging to the elites, celebrities and politicians but not to the regular working
class white Americans. When in fact this privilege is bestowed upon every white person regardless of
whether or not they choose to take advantage of it. Not to say that all white people are born with silver
spoons in their mouths or that they get everything handed to them on a silver platter. The issue here is
that white people enjoy certain privileges that minorities should but do not. For example, a white
person does not have to worry about getting pulled over by the police while driving a luxury car and
be asked to prove ownership because of the color of their skin. They do not worry about being
followed by security while they shop for fear they might steal something. They do not have to deal
companies refusing to hire them or housing discrimination. There s a saying that one can not see the

It is known that when there is no consideration of property type, on the other hand, there is no

type mostly go together. Description of the property which is the subject of a valuation report is one of
the scientific procedures of valuation (http://www.iacenig.org/CEthics.html). This is realized from the
fact that for the selection of valuation method, the available data and the type of property (commercial

IA CE (2008) says that, The procedure and method for deciding a given value in question is a matter

Housing Is Categorized Under Basic Commodities
Housing is categorized under basic commodities. Despite the necessity associated with proper
housing, families and individuals all over the world continue to have trouble in affording proper
housing facilities. Affordable housing refers to a kind of accommodation that is suitable for the needs
of a range of very low to medium income families. Affordable housing should be priced so that these
households can be in a position to cater for their other basic living costs such as food, medical care,
clothing, education and transport. Housing is a combined product of land and buildings.
Accommodation bargain basement relays to an individuals capability to pay for their housing at a

as larger macro economic, environmental and social forces. As citizens in Australia continue to

government intervention in the issue.
Housing affordability may result to stress in situations where people strain to meet the cost of simple
yet suitable houses. Naturally, people are supposed to spend a mere 20% of their income on housing.
However, people in Australia spend more than 40 percent of their income on housing. This means that
people do not retain enough money to cater for other basic needs such as medical, food and clothing.

Moreover, Zunian is not only the language and a way of communication; it also helps in teaching

  • 3. Sir Isaac Newton And Albert Einstein Sir Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein are though by many to be two of the greatest scientific minds to exist since the scientific enlightenment. Although they existed nearly 150 years apart, their work is still used in modern technology. Many people think of Newton only as the person who thought about gravity and Einstein as the one who made an equation, but these two scientific revolutionaries are much more complex. Newton and Einstein may have had very different personal lives, but they are both scientist whose contributions to society are still relevant today. On January 4, 1643 Isaac Newton was born in Lincolnshire, England according to Biography.com. The soon to be revolutionary came from humble beginnings. Newton s father, a ... Seventy six years later, he died of a rupture in his aorta in New Jersey Biogrophy.com said. Isaac Newton is seen by historians as an unusual man while Albert Einstein, not seen as a social butterfly, is a lot more conventional than Newton. To begin, Newton is reported to never have any romantic contact with anyone. Even when his life settled down, he did not get married as most of his colleagues did. • 4. The Rise Of Globalization And Commercial Nationalism Consuming The Consumer The rise of globalization has created a demand for consumable goods on a scale never before seen on Earth. For the first time in the history of the world, products can be sold and purchased by almost anyone, everywhere at anytime. This, coupled with the rise of credit purchasing throughout the industrialized world has granted buying power to even the lowest classes of the world s population. Consumerism as it stands is not sustainable. Product Branding has the ability to place value on everything from education to cell phones. With that in mind, we find ourselves buying experiences and goods we rarely require, but are often told we need. Consequently, brand recognition may also be applied to developing countries wishing to establish a marketable identity. These countries seek to create an economic advantage through national branding that can improve loyalty as well as a sense individual belonging of its citizens. Nevertheless both global consumerism and commercial nationalism need to be considered when looking at the benefits or detriments of branding. In 1902, Thorstein Veblen labeled a middle section of society as the Leisure Class. This class possessed purchasing power beyond basic necessities. This class required goods that set them apart from the other (and often lower) classes of society. They wished to differentiate themselves by reflecting status through possessed goods. He is noted for his enthusiastic personality, range of interests and achievements, and his leadership of the Progressive Movement. Before becoming President, he held offices at the city, state, and federal levels. Roosevelt s achievements as a naturalist, explorer, hunter, author, and soldier are as much a part of his fame as any office he held as a politician. On January 26, 1883 in Buffalo, New York Roosevelt delivered a speech that reveals his ideas of what an ideal citizen is and what his role in the community should be. The good citizen will education his family and his community by being a role model and preforming his civic duties. Roosevelt shapes his ideas of citizenship around how a man treats the people around him which impacts the entire community. Roosevelt s ideal citizen focuses more on the lived experience of a man and his actions in community which reflect on public engagement. President Roosevelt focuses more on the individual person and he gives examples of how a good citizen should be because that one person has the power to impact more than just his self. Roosevelt says, In a free republic the ideal citizen must be one willing and able to take arms for the defense of the flag, exactly as the ideal citizen must be the father of many healthy children. Although the same expectations are felt in Roosevelt s time and today, Roosevelt puts more emphasis on it because the educational advantages are present. President Roosevelt believes a good citizen with strong moral character will raise strong children and teach them the values he was taught. He says, A race must be strong and vigorous; it must be a race of good fighters and good breeders, else its wisdom will come to naught and its virtue be ineffective. President Roosevelt is saying without the teachings of good citizenship in the home, future generations will lose the true meaning of citizenship. • 8. Milton Friedman s The Hong Kong Essay I believe that the only plausible explanation for the different rates of growth is socialism in Britain, free enterprise and free markets in Hong Kong. Has anybody got a better explanation? I d be grateful for any suggestions. Milton Friedman asks us this in his 1998 essay: The Hong Kong Experiment. Milton Friedman was part and founder of a school of economic thinkers called the Chicago School. This group believed strongly in the power of Capitalism, and although there are many definitions for this form of economic policy, Friedman and this paper us the following definition: the organization of the bulk of economic activity through private enterprise operating in a free market . Friedman in the aforementioned essay attempts to show us the benefits which a capitalist nation has over a socialist one. He uses, specifically, the case studies of the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Israel. Through these examples he postulates that it was Hong Kong s capitalist policies which allowed it to succeed economically. There is no debating that Hong Kong is something of an economic miracle. The island began as small rock covered with a few fishing villages, and ended up being a world economic power. Friedman, however, makes the error of oversimplifying the situation of Hong Kong in the thesis of his essay. Hong Kong, by its very nature, does not exist in isolation. It is greatly affected by world politics, long history, and its own geography. We must understand Hong Kong s success as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The separation of science and non science became known as the problem of Demarcation. He believed that any theory was scientific on the basis that such theories could have possible evidence to suggest that the theory was wrong. Conversely, a notion would be deemed unscientific if no contradictory evidence could be gathered. An example of Demarcation is the separation of Einstein s theory of relativity and Freud s psychoanalytic theory (section 2). Popper saw Einstein s theory as making predictions that could potential be incorrect and that such examples would falsify the entire theory. This search for falsification of a theory is consequently a better methodology for separating science from non science(section 3). Today, with 1.3 billion women employed, females constitute 52% of the participation in the workforce (Source #2). The textile and garment industry constitutes most likely the largest sector of manufacturing and profit production for many countries and therefore will be the concentration of this paper to represent the working conditions for the majority of people (WIEGO). Since females comprise 85% of the global garment industry, their gender role is relevant in all processes (SOMO, 2011). This paper seeks to explain general workforce issues for women globally, including specific Latin American country examples, what should be done to improve working conditions, and what is currently being done. At first, the benefits provided by the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) were enough to give Latin American countries an edge to hold off tight competition from other developing countries. To show what s right, one must take a peaceful stand on an issue against authority and be willing to face consequences. This is the act of civil disobedience. Civil disobedience is a tough concept to grasp. People have a hard time doing the right thing when the authority tells us to do otherwise because they do not want to be reprimanded and have the burden that something bad might happen to them. An example of civil disobedience would be the midwives. The midwives were Egyptian, and they saved the little Jewish boys, even though they were told to kill them. The text states that the midwives feared god , but in fact, they did the right thing. Rambam states that Pharaoh s policy said, If the latter did not wish to pursue his policy of discrimination openly so, as not to arouse opposition to the atrocity involved. This applies to the Jewish woman because if we say that the midwives were Egyptian, another message becomes visible. The Torah states that a person can resist evil, and they do not have to take orders from superiors. Civil Disobedience is then brought about because the midwives were not jewish, but they were righteous egyptian women. Being in the wrong to authority seems worse than not helping people, but if anyone genuinely thinks that, I believe they re false. Peacefully going against the norm is completely fair. Overpopulation And The Problem Of Overpopulation To begin with, in demography, the term overpopulation refers to a condition wherein the total population of a particular region far exceeds the carrying capacity of the region. Although the term by and large refers to the ratio between population and the available area, the ratio between the population and available resources cannot be ignored. First, the rate at which the population is growing; the data compiled by the United Nations shows that the world population grew by 30 percent between 1990 and 2010. Second, the distribution of population; with China and India making up approximately 47 percent of the total world population as of today. Next, there are several causes of overpopulation. Significant improvement in quality of life and basic health services has resulted in decline in death rate on one hand, and increase in the birth rate on the other. Continuous migration of people from underdeveloped areas to developed areas has triggered an unnatural growth in population in developed areas, thus, putting immense pressure on available resources. Our failure in understanding the problems caused by overpopulation in urban areas is reflected in unplanned growth of newer towns and cities. On page 111 of Plato s Republic he establishes that the same one thing will not experience opposites within the same one part of itself over the same thing, at the same time. I also agree with the premise that there is a third part to the soul, the spirit. At first I questioned it thinking that this was indeed one in the same with the rational but then the good point is made that small children are clearly full with spirit yet are not rational so therefore they cannot be one in the same. This argument sold me on the third part of the soul. The one argument I couldn t get on board with was when Plato wrote that thirst is just for drink, and not one of a specific kind. I think that personally one can be craving a specific type of drink, regardless of environment, (e.g. orange juice) and their thirst will not be quenched by any drink but by only the drink they are craving. Plato makes it seem that one cannot urge a specific drink but only drink in general. Although I do disagree with that specific part, in the end the overall argument was ... Now, wolves gradually evolved into dogs. A wolf and a dog are the same species. They also have the same DNA. Hunting dogs are more related to wolves. Some people long ago tried to breed dogs by changing their features. For example, a doberman pinscher got most of its tail cut off. Now they have such small tails! A corgi has a natural tail. He goes on to say that because the issue is not based on policy, the government cannot legislate it. He explained that, almost all scientific evidence produced to describe the nature of any individual based on race is bunk also adding that, only when everyone views snap judgments about individuals based on race as the absurd equivalent of such judgments based on hair or eye color, will the great moral victory over bigotry be won (Marcus). The definition of white privilege is important because some white people deny it s existence. According to Peggy McIntosh it is an invisible package of unearned assets, which I (Peggy McIntosh) can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious. White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions maps, passports, code books, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks (McIntosh, 1988). Often times, white people sees the benefits of white privilege as those belonging to the elites, celebrities and politicians but not to the regular working class white Americans. When in fact this privilege is bestowed upon every white person regardless of whether or not they choose to take advantage of it. Not to say that all white people are born with silver spoons in their mouths or that they get everything handed to them on a silver platter. The issue here is that white people enjoy certain privileges that minorities should but do not. For example, a white person does not have to worry about getting pulled over by the police while driving a luxury car and be asked to prove ownership because of the color of their skin.
