Cognitive Vs Exercise
Research shows that integrating exercise or meditation in one s life can result in tremendous
benefits both physically and mentally, including improving one s cognitive abilities. Cognition can
be defined as the capacity to perceive, retain, and apply information that has been learned through
experience or observation (Michelon, 2006). It entails aspects such as memory, perception, visual
and spatial processing, attention, motor skills, language, and executive function (Michelon, 2006).
Meditation and exercisecan boost an individual s blood hormone levels, which can improve
memory, and decrease one s risk of developing dementia (Bergland, 2014). Learning can also be
positively affected as physical exercise maximizes the minds capacity to take in information,
particularly by increasing the individual s motivation, attention span,... Show more content on

Holistically, both activities can help fight diseases and decrease one s risk of having health
conditions such as cardiovascular disease, strokes, type 2 diabetes, cancer, and arthritis, among
other conditions (Warburton, Nicole, Bredin, 2006). Additionally, both activities can increase an
individual s energy as it helps spread oxygen and nutrients to different areas in the body more
efficiently and improve blood circulation. As one gets older, exercise and meditation can also
help reduce the risks of disabilities and chronic conditions such as obesity and cystic fibrosis
Warner (2006). Although exercise and meditation can aid an individual in a variety of ways, for
the purpose of this essay, I will specify how both can improve older individual s cognitive function
by increasing their brain plasticity, executive function, attentional control, and decrease one s risk

Medical Marijuana for Hope
In today s pharmaceutical world, there are treatments that are used to cure diseases, prescriptions
able to alleviate pain, and over the counter drugs that claim to be able to control and treat an
issue someone may be having. Yet, with everything they have, the cost to afford these benefits
have caused many families to become in debt or discussing other options, especially those with a
severe health issue such as cancer or epilepsy. Even if they are able to afford the treatments, there
is no guarantee that they will work in battling the illness. It s also possible that the medications
given to an individual could end up damaging or killing them depending on how much they are
supposed to be taking. Because of these reasons, people have been on the lookout for a new cure to
both common and severe illnesses, researching different forms of drugs and pharmaceutical
medications in hope that the next breakthrough will help many of those in need. Many now are
advocating and leaning towards the use of medicinal marijuana within the medical field, providing
both research and practical application showing the beneficial properties cannabis has.
One of the most common illnesses that pharmacies and medical professionals have been trying to
find a cure for is cancer. Cancer has many different types and stages, each with separate and
devastating effects.

Night Book Report
Remember the refrain: We always build on the past; the past always tries to stop us. Freedom is
about stopping the past, but we have lost that ideal Lawrence Lessig. This quote is helpful to
remember. We should always keep our head in the present but never forget what happened in the
past to bring us here today, and be grateful for our current status. The holocaustwas an important
event in the pastthat we shouldn t forget. There are many stories, biographies and autobiographies
written about it today. Night by Elie Wiesel, an autobiography about the holocaust, should be a
required high school reading because it is an important event, of many, that show us why we should
be grateful for our current state.
This book is very good for details, events, places, names, stories, etc. It shows the reality behind
all the events that took place during the holocaust. He made sure to describe as much as he
could in as much detail as possible. I have to say that this book deals greatly in imagery and lets
the reader keep an image in their head. This book is truly unlike any other because it shows
emotions and how people felt about the events that took place, it also shows how unstable the
living conditions were and how horribly they were treated. This is all very tragic to ... Show more

Many people think that when their crush doesn t like them or that they can t have a cookie for

Essay on 18th Century, Period of Enlightenment
The Enlightenment took place during the 18th century and was defined as man s leaving his self
caused immaturity. A popular motto took place: dare to know. It was a period of questioning and
appliance of reasoning to explore many subjects often left untouched. People were leaving behind
their past and advocating the use of scientific method instead of unproven beliefs on religion. The
Enlightenment takes its name from those who wanted to contribute to a brighter future and society.
Different paths were taken in order to make this period possible. The intellectuals didn t
immediately gather their information from original scientific sources. Since most philosophers
expressed their notions through complex literary works, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People were beginning to compare themselves and realized the similarities or differences that
shaped their society.
A last important trait for the inspiration of the Enlightenment came from two men. Isaac Newton
and John Locke. Newton was known as a genius and made a great deal at instructing his personal
rules to later uncover natural laws governing politics, economics, religion, arts, etc. His concept
was recognized as the Newtonian world machine. Locke tried to prove that humans were all born
plain and acquired their notions of life through nurture instead of nature. He believed people could
change and adopt new attitudes to create an improved society.
Taken together, these philosophers offered a possibility for a brave new world.
The leading figures of the Enlightenment were known as philosophers; they were literary people,
professors, journalists, statesmen, and social reformers above all. They emerged from various
social classes though most were French. They helped shape the culture in France and most
importantly, Paris, but their movement soon spread across Europe and to the West. Although they
had different backgrounds, they all shared a common point which was to discuss and attempt to
change the world. Philosophers relied on scientific methods to explain events and applied rational
criticism on all their works. A few dominant men left us with lasting impressions.

Similarities Between Chinese And Australian Economy
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to compare both Australian and Chinese economies. China is one of
Australia s closest trade neighbours, often referred to as the Sino Australian relations. While
Australia has a minute population of 23.9 million in comparison to China s 1.357 billion its
economic ranking is just as its population, lower than China s. Both economies have various
similarities and differences in areas such as economic systems and historical events, economic
growth, quality of life, employment and unemployment, distribution of income, environmental
sustainability and, the role of government in health care, education and social welfare. The
following report will parallel and compare both economies in retrospect to the ... Show more content

The Environmental Performance index (EPI) gave Australia a score of 87.22 and a rank of 13,
whereas China achieved a score of 65.1 and a ranking of 109, this is most probable as a result of
China s environmental crisis due to rapid industrialisation.
Also, Australia s and China s Foreign Direct (FDI) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth
saw huge declines during the Global Financial Crisis (GFC). Both economies, being highly
export driven, especially China saw GDP declines from 2007 to 2008. Australia declined by
1.9% and China by 4.6%. Both economies also experienced a huge fall in FDI Australia s FDI
declining 24% from the previous year and China s declining 36%. The huge economic decline and
lack of confidence in both economies raised the unemployment rate in Australia from 4.6% to 5.4%
and 4% to 4.3% in China.
Quality of Life
Quality of life refers to the standard of living within a population. Quality of Life can be quantified

Francisco Goya May 3 1808
Francisco Goya s The Executions of May 3, 1808, is a remarkably interesting piece of art. This
piece represents a protest against the Napoleon Occupational Army in Madrid. There are various
visual elements and design principles in the art, which will be covered. The beginning of this
ILO will contain the visual elements first, followed by the design principles, and what they
mean in the artwork. In Goya s art, we can see the primary, visual element of lines. Lines
represent motion, dynamics, and direction. The soldiers are aiming their rifles at a group of
prisoners waiting for execution. Horizontal lines indicate a peaceful scene, however, in this case,
it would be appropriate to say they mean a sense of destruction or death, as the title of the art
depicts. As the view follows the direction of the lines, the viewer is immediately drawn to the man
with the bright white shirt. The values of the piece are relatively dark and morbid, however, when
we look at the man with the white shirt, we can see the opposite effect of the bright white shirt.
Going back to the element of lines, once the viewer looks at the man with the white shirt, you can
see his hands are in a diagonal position. These diagonal lines represent dynamics and tension. The
pressure comes from the imminent execution of that man.

We must also deduce whether the balance is symmetrical or asymmetrical. If one splits the painting
in half, one can see it is not completely balanced. You have more weight on the right hand side
than you do on the left. However, regarding art, it is balanced. Even though there are more objects
on the right, the values of the bright white shirt give it a sense of equal distribution. This uneven,
yet balanced proportion of the art tells the viewer that it is asymmetrical. It is asymmetrical because
it is unequally distributed, yet it is still

Canada Is An Example Of A Mixed Economy
Canada is an example of a mixed economy. A mixed economy sits between the planned and market
economy on the economic continuum. It is usually considered the best type of economy since it
distributes control equally between individuals and the government. Unlike planned economies in
which the government is given primary control over certain aspects of life, the mixed economy
gives the government less control and regulation. This allows sellers and private markets to be able
to expand and grow their business without any interruptions. Of course, the government has to step
in once in a while to ensure that there is no illegal activity going on and that work environments
are being kept safe, but for the most part, the owner has the right to be

The Four Psychodynamic Theories
In the four major theories of personality one of these theories is psychodynamic. Psychodynamic
personality theory focuses on the role of the unconscious mind in the development of
personality. In Freud s study, one of the advantages that prove to be present in psychodynamic
theory is its ability to recognize there is subconscious and how it has impact on one s life. As
well, it brought the importance that childhood experiences have an effect on an individual s life.
For example, many of Freud s patients proved this case when discussing the effects of being
sexually abused as a child altered their way of living. However, one of the disadvantages of this
theory would be its claim that human behavior is pre determined and individuals do not have free
will. For instance, the psychosexual stages that Freud claim that lead to the end result personality of
an individual. Furthermore, another personality theory that is a part of the major four theories
would be trait theories. Trait theories are less concerned with explanation for personality
development and changing personality than they are with describing personality and predicting
behavior based on observation. One of the advantages that are present in this theory would be its
capability of categorizing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

humans present themselves in a certain way because that is how they interpret themselves.

aspects of human nature. For instance, the humanistic theory would have difficulty in

The Biology Building At The University Of North Florida
The Biology Building at the University of North Florida has a hidden gem nestled away within it.
In the middle of the structure is a small square semi enclosed courtyard. Utilizing that courtyard, my
favorite place on the whole campus, I will conduct an autoethnography. In my autoethnography I
will analyze what about the courtyard I love so much and what those things convey about my
relationship with myself and others as well as my position within society. Autoethnographies
combine elements of both autobiographies and ethnographies. Specifically, autoethnographies are
academic essays that are introspective and narrative oriented looks at the self, much like
autobiographies and memoirs. However, autoethnographies are set apart from autobiographies and
journals in that they join that introspection with ethnographic research methods concerned with
connections between community and the self. Due to their unique nature, ethnographies are
beneficial in enhancing cultural understanding of the connections between groups and individuals,
as well as the self; and have the potential ability to transform the self and others through the cross
cultural building of bonds and understanding (Chang 2007). Using public and locations can be a
helpful tool in self insight, as they encompass a specific discourse (Thomas 1987). The authors

Because of these advantages we have decided to go with IEEE 802.11 n standard. Fig 1.2 shows

How To Write An Aphorism
The aphorism I have chosen is We must become the change we want to see. The meaning I took
from this is basically you must lead by example. If you want something or somebody to be a
certain way, you have to show how beneficial that change can be. This reminds me of whenever I
first became an officer in band. I do believe I was a good leader before this experience, but
definitely not by example. I made a lot of bad choices, whether it be in my word choice or just
making bad decisions about how I handle situations overall. It wasn t until I got my officer
position when I really thought about how much I looked up to my leaders in the past. They
influenced so much of my life by the littlest choices they made. I decided then that I needed to make

The Alaska Lng Project, A Pipeline
I am writing to you in response to the proposed Alaska LNG project, a pipeline that stretches from
the North Slope to the small community of Nikiski, Alaska, that you are currently supporting as
chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural resources committee (Alex Martinson, 2015). Please
realize that I am not an expert in this matter but simply a concerned citizen who would regret to
know that negative environmental and community effects would result from the construction of
facilities associated with a natural gas pipeline and production.
Allow me to start by saying that this state and the Kenai Peninsula community, are very important
to me. I have lived in Nikiski, Alaska for the past 11 years, and I would sincerely hate to see this
community and state polluted by large scale LNG production and transportation if it could be
avoided. I also realize the positive economic outcome for the state of Alaska as well as the U.S. as a
whole. However, do these fiscal gains constitute enough incentive to potentially disrupt natural
environments and put Alaska s citizens at risk?
Consider the Trans Alaska Pipeline and crude oil transportation that is currently in place from the
North Slope to the Valdez Marine Terminal. Many oil spills have occurred since it began
transportation in 1977 such as the one that occurred in 2006 that went undetected for days resulting
in 267,000 gallons of crude oil escaping into the environment (Barringer, 2006). Also, in 1989, the

Lupus is a very complex disease that requires knowledge and awareness on the part of the doctor
and good communication from the patient. There is no single test that can determine if a
person has lupus. Several laboratory tests can help a doctor confirm the diagnosis of SLE or
rule out other causes for the person s symptoms. The ANA (antinuclear antibody) test is
commonly used. This test looks for antibodies that react against the components of the nucleus
of the body s cells. The doctor can also order a biopsy of the kidney s or the skin if those body parts
are affected. The doctor can also order a test for anticardiolipin antibodies. If the person is found to
have these than they are at an increased risk for blood clotting and there is an increased risk of
miscarriages for pregnant women. Other testing that may be done is a complete blood count,
urinalysis, blood chemistries, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate test (a test that measures
inflammation). In order for a doctor to diagnose you with SLE, you must have 4 out of 11 typical
signs of the disease. SLE may alter the results of the following tests: Antithyroglobulin antibody,
Antithyroid microsomal antibody, Complement components (C3 and C4), Coombs test direct,

Life Savers
According to the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute, Fire departments in the United States
respond to 1.8 million fires each year or about four fires every minute. Annually, more than 5,000
Americans are killed and 100,000 are injured as a result of fires, and annual property loss due to
fires has been estimated to be as high as $10 billion (Smith et al.1). Which means there are many
firefighters risking their lives to save others . They know the risks but love doing it. Today, most
firefighters are provided with a full encapsulated ensemble that incorporates technological
advancements in thermal protection, breathability, chemical resistance and reflectivity (Tutterow).
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) protects firefighters from almost anything presented on a fire
scene yet, still is not enough to lower the rates of deaths and injuries in the fire service. Firefighter
PPE needs to reduce deaths and injuries and continue advancements in technology, all while
maintaining a reasonable cost. If the United States continues to make advancements in PPE
technology it will decrease the number of fatalities and injuries. Many buildings burned down
because of firefighters were limited to external fighting measures only wearing wool coats, rubber
boots, gloves, and leather helmets. In the History of Firefighter Personal Protective Equipment by
Paul Hasenmeier claims:
In the 1600 s, firefighters had to

Essay On Cupid
Cupid, being known for love, has greatly influenced today s society even with his questionable
background. In ancient Greece, he originated from Aphrodite. Cupid s other name was Eros. In
Roman times, his name is Cupid and his mother was Venus. His purpose was to to pierce the heart
of his victims and causing them fall deeply in love. The most known stories that he was involved in
was Apollo and Daphneand Cupidand Psyche. Apollo was shot by Cupid and fell in love with

victory sets one up for defeat; in fact the moral of Cupid and Psyche story is love cannot thrive
where there isn t trust. The resolution to his story is he marries Psyche. Venus supports their
love. For Apollo and Daphne, Daphne is now the reason why we have the Laurel Tree. The
differences between Cupid s original story and most modern story is when the stories were first

the prerequisites for the inclusion of gases: tectonic events created passage ways (fissures) through
the salt sequence, allowing gases and brines to escape from their host formations below the
consolidated and therefore impermeable salt sequences. When contacting potash beds, the brines
caused alterations of the potash beds, dissolving the most soluble potash minerals and precipitating
less soluble salts; as the result, carnallite was replaced by sylvite and halite. In cases where such
processes extended laterally into potash beds, sylvite was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although gas inclusions in salt rocks are extremely important in some salt and potash mining
districts for their effects on mining operations, they received little attention in textbooks which
are now available in English translations, e.g., Borchert and Muir (1964) and Braitsch (1971).
This may be due to the fact that, at the time when the German originals were written, these
matters were still under controversial discussion; see Gimm and Pforr (1964) with contributions
by Obert, Ignatieff, Panek, Baar. More recent publications (e.g., Gimm, 1968) indicate that the
views expressed by Baar (1954d, 1958,1962) have been generally accepted. As the formation of
gas inclusions in salt rocks requires special conditions, as outlined, such inclusions are rare in
salt sequences without potash salts, as no reaction salts could form. This is the reason why the
salt domes of the Gulf Coast are free from gas inclusions, with the exception of some cases
where gases were occluded in recrystallizing halite, or secondary halite which may have
crystallized from migrating solutions due to cooling. In contrast, the salt domes of northern
Europe are loaded with pockets of salt rocks with abundant gas inclusions; as a matter of fact,
several potash mines were abandoned at the beginning of this century because of the problems
caused by gas outbursts (Gimm, 1968, p. 553). To date, no gas inclusions have been encountered in
the Prairie Evaporites, in spite of

The Copyright of Procedural Art
Traditionally, creative works such as drawings, paintings and other pictures have been protected
by copyright law. Procedurally generated art can produce works that mimic a drawing, painting or
photograph, but there is a complication in defining the work as an algorithm or a creative work.
Copyright does not extend to algorithms, so the questions follows: Is procedurally generated art
simply an algorithm that should be treated as such, or is it a creative work that should be covered
by copyright law?
Procedurally generated content in general is considered to be produced by a program rather than
explicitly defined by a data structure. However, a program itself can be seen as an explicitly
defined data structure (Ebert, Musgrave, Peachey, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even so, when their user interfaces were compared there were a number of similarities. The judge
ruled that copying had taken place on that basis.
This precedent states that, in the UK, the end result of a program is what matters and that its
internal function is irrelevant to issues of copyright. Applied to Perlin s procedural art, this could
potentially be dangerous. If someone wished to obtain similar results to his they would have to be
wary of copyright law. Even if they could mimic his techniques without copying any of his code,
they would still potentially be found to have violated copyright since the end results would be
similar.
As well as copyright law, patent law could also be an issue. European patent law expressly prohibits
the granting of patents for programs for computers (European Patent Convention, 2000). Strangely,
the United States takes the opposite stance. It will not grant patents consisting solely of
mathematical operations, i.e., converting one set of numbers into another set of numbers, does not
manipulate appropriate subject matter and thus cannot constitute a statutory process (United States
Patent and Trademark Office, 2008). This seems very similar to the European system, but there is a
key difference. The US Patent Office will issue a patent for programs with a practical application.

For this lab 6 male Acheta domesticus were isolated in plastic containers, each was placed in a
container that was 5 cm height and had 5.5 cm radius. Each of these containers was punctured
with 10 15 minuscule holes for breathing on the lid and 5 8 holes on the sides. Inside of each
container a damp paper towel was placed on the bottom and 2 pieces of food were placed on the

The two reports are based on Honda s entry onto the US. They are The BCG report, which was
commissioned by the British government to investigate the decline of the British motorcycle
industry, and the second report was recorded by Richard Pascale, which looked at Honda s entry
into the US Market.
Honda is a Japan based company and is the world s largest manufacturer of motorcycles as well as
the world s manufacturer of internal combustion engines (motor vehicles) producing more than 14
million internal combustion engines each year. Honda s trademark had been registered in Japan

Deliberate strategies can be seen as the intended pattern or path, before it is realized, or before the
journey takes place and, the Emergent strategies are patterns that are realized despite or in absence
of the intended path or pattern. Emergent strategies are rather common in an organization, or more
to the point.
According to Pascale s report, Honda had two incidents where emergent strategies had to be
implemented; they were first not aware that the motorcycle business in the United States occurs
during a seasonable April August window and their timing coincided with the closing of the 1959
season, therefore they had to come up with an alternative plan and that was to try go to retailers

Again in Pascale s report Honda had another emergent strategy that had to be implement fast. When
their larger bikes started breaking and leaking oil causing clutch failure. Honda s reputation was
destroyed before it could be established. It turned out that motorcycles in the United States were
driven much farther than in Japan. As they were busy sending their machines back to their factory
to be fixed, they were running errands around Los Angeles in Honda 50cc motorcycles, which they
had initially decided not push because the market they were hoping to attract was macho, to they

The Emergence Of A Hazardous Concept Analysis
Definition of Technology: Hazardous or Honest?
Leo Marx, once a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Harvard graduate, wrote
an article titled Technology The Emergence of a Hazardous Concept . In this article, the author
explores the modern day definition of the word technology and argues that technology offers too
broad of a definition and is ill fitting to describe all technical advancements and their creators.
Technology can be defined as the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of
technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such
subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science (dictionary.com). On the
other hand, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In simpler terms, Lukacs is saying that there is so much to the word technology that it all should
not be confined into one. He also believes, like Marx, that human involvement is not credited
enough. Marx also refers to Lukacs definition of reification: is what occurs when we endow a
human activity with the characteristics of a thing or things (Lukacs, 83 87). Marx proceeds to
argue that technologies are represented by things. For instance, Marx says that when someone
hears transportation technology what comes to mind are things like automobiles, airplanes, and
trains. This, in some way, distracts the person from the human involvement. Let s take an
automobile for an example. Say you have a Prius. Often times when someone talks about a car,
we think a lot about the brand. It is a well known fact that the Prius is made by Toyota. It also is
obvious that Toyota is a company made up of people who come up with ideas for cars and put them
into action. Therefore, when someone thinks about a car, they also think about the company. This
proves that we do acknowledge the fact that human creation is a huge part of technology. Marx
insists that technologies are viewed and put into a category of things . Nonetheless, it can be said
that Marx argument is invalid. Human involvement in technology is not only implied, but it simply
would not exist without humans. As stated in the above paragraph, it is clear that technology
cannot produce itself. Even when we cover the topic of technology in a history class for example,
we learn about the creation, who created, and what it does. As an illustration, think of a telephone.
As part of our education, in American history class, teachers teach us about the invention of

Decentralization Transfers The Authority And...
Decentralization transfers the authority and responsibility for public functions of central
government to subordinate government organizations. Power is decentralized in the U.S. political
system as it aims to give citizens more power in decision making processes. It is also spread
throughout the system rather than being concentrated to one government. The power of the
government enhances the power of individuals and also make it easier for individuals to
participate in the government. It also supports democratization by giving citizens more influence in
the formulation and implementation of policies as it enhances transparency and accountability
from the government. If there was a centralized federal government and were to make a big
mistake by implementing a destructive policy, everybody would suffer greatly. Since the large
centralized governments are a concentrated source of political power, there can be serious
problems when individuals become corrupted or fail to do their jobs. As for the centralized city
governments, if they were to become corrupted or fail to respond to local residents, it would be
much easier, than national governments, to hold accountable due to their small size. Since the
United States do have a decentralized government all governments have their limits to their power
and is dispersed through their system. Powers from the governments are decentralized in the U.S.
political system, in order to, compose the distribution of power amongst governments

Hiv And The World Health Organization Essay
HIV/AIDS is an acronym that has become synonymous with the weakening of the human
immunity system and has become a constant source of anguish for the infected and their families.
According to the Center for Disease Control, more than 1.2 million people in the US are living
with HIV. What may be worrying is that 1 in 8 persons are unaware of their positive status. Despite
the number of new HIVdiagnoses has decreasing by 19% between 2005 and 2014, there is still a
lot of unsightly statistics that paint a picture of uncertainty regarding its eradication. HIV is
incurable, the only relief comes in the form of ARVs which help the body adapt to the weakened
immune system. Globally, the World Health Organization puts the numbers at over 100 million
people and most of them in developing countries. A terrible scourge indeed and a relevant disease
to analyze closely.

Legislation On Antibiotics
A letter to legislation on the use of antibiotics
Overtime, antibiotics have been favorable as well as negligent to society. Antibiotic usage is
helpful to society because it kills and fights off bacteria in both humans and animals. With an
increase in antibiotic usage, these bacteria have become resistant to certain drugs which reduce the
chance of the bacteria being killed off and result in bacteria multiplying, causing increased harm to
the infected. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2013), each year in
the United States at least 2 million people become infected with bacteria that are resistant to
antibiotics and at least 23,000 people die each year as a result to these infections. Although multiple
bacteria are antibiotic resistant, and those numbers will continue to rise, antibiotics should remain a
staple in the treatment of diseases, as opposed to abandoning their use which will cause an increase
in the prevalence of bacterial infections. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human life expectancy in the United States is currently around 70 80 years, and through the use
of antibiotics, life expectancy has the ability to increase beyond what we currently expect. As
stated by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCSUSA), the best approach to diminish the use of
antibiotics on animals is to reduce nonessential uses and reserve as many of these drugs as
possible. In doing so this will give animals the ability to produce in a healthier way and have an

Should Greyhound Racing Be Banned Across All States Across...
A couple of years ago, Australia watched on from their tellies as Four Corners unraveled the
darkest of secrets in modern day greyhound racing. We exposed the gruesome sport for what it is, a
lower class Melbourne Cup which sends a clear and undeniable statement that the GRV (Greyhound
Racing Victoria) have a lack of motivation and desire to fix the sport. The allegations that live
baiting is used during training and the corruption surrounding the policing of the sport, further
supports the idea that greyhoundracing should indefinitely be banned in all states across Australia.
Greyhound racingis completely out dated and will leave future generations puzzled at why we
encouraged the continuation of this disgusting sport.
Fear, a common misconception regarding the GRV. Greyhound Racing Victoria, an institution
which has no ethical values. The constant reminder which is apparent when discussing the lack of
motivation and desire to fix the sport, they so dearly cherish. The underwhelming reality of the
situation that they simply just don t care, or don t have the resources to make an impact. Is the
GRV ready to take serious consideration of the recent events, and make a formal statement
regarding the live baiting training centers? Or is the Australian Government forced to ban the sport
across all states? I personally think that Greyhound Racing should be banned across all states
because, the industry once promised that they would do better back in 2015, but enough is

  • 2. Cognitive Vs Exercise Research shows that integrating exercise or meditation in one s life can result in tremendous benefits both physically and mentally, including improving one s cognitive abilities. Cognition can be defined as the capacity to perceive, retain, and apply information that has been learned through experience or observation (Michelon, 2006). It entails aspects such as memory, perception, visual and spatial processing, attention, motor skills, language, and executive function (Michelon, 2006). Meditation and exercisecan boost an individual s blood hormone levels, which can improve memory, and decrease one s risk of developing dementia (Bergland, 2014). Learning can also be positively affected as physical exercise maximizes the minds capacity to take in information, particularly by increasing the individual s motivation, attention span,... Holistically, both activities can help fight diseases and decrease one s risk of having health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, strokes, type 2 diabetes, cancer, and arthritis, among other conditions (Warburton, Nicole, Bredin, 2006). Additionally, both activities can increase an individual s energy as it helps spread oxygen and nutrients to different areas in the body more efficiently and improve blood circulation. As one gets older, exercise and meditation can also help reduce the risks of disabilities and chronic conditions such as obesity and cystic fibrosis Warner (2006). Although exercise and meditation can aid an individual in a variety of ways, for the purpose of this essay, I will specify how both can improve older individual s cognitive function by increasing their brain plasticity, executive function, attentional control, and decrease one s risk of developing ... • 3. Medical Marijuana For Hope Essay Katlyn Hanson Philosophy 1112 003 Biomedical Ethics April 16th, 2015 Medical Marijuana for Hope In today s pharmaceutical world, there are treatments that are used to cure diseases, prescriptions able to alleviate pain, and over the counter drugs that claim to be able to control and treat an issue someone may be having. Yet, with everything they have, the cost to afford these benefits have caused many families to become in debt or discussing other options, especially those with a severe health issue such as cancer or epilepsy. Even if they are able to afford the treatments, there is no guarantee that they will work in battling the illness. It s also possible that the medications given to an individual could end up damaging or killing them depending on how much they are supposed to be taking. Because of these reasons, people have been on the lookout for a new cure to both common and severe illnesses, researching different forms of drugs and pharmaceutical medications in hope that the next breakthrough will help many of those in need. Many now are advocating and leaning towards the use of medicinal marijuana within the medical field, providing both research and practical application showing the beneficial properties cannabis has. One of the most common illnesses that pharmacies and medical professionals have been trying to find a cure for is cancer. Cancer has many different types and stages, each with separate and devastating effects. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many stories, biographies and autobiographies written about it today. Night by Elie Wiesel, an autobiography about the holocaust, should be a required high school reading because it is an important event, of many, that show us why we should be grateful for our current state. This book is very good for details, events, places, names, stories, etc. It shows the reality behind all the events that took place during the holocaust. He made sure to describe as much as he could in as much detail as possible. I have to say that this book deals greatly in imagery and lets the reader keep an image in their head. This book is truly unlike any other because it shows emotions and how people felt about the events that took place, it also shows how unstable the living conditions were and how horribly they were treated. • 5. Essay on 18th Century, Period of Enlightenment The Enlightenment took place during the 18th century and was defined as man s leaving his self caused immaturity. A popular motto took place: dare to know. It was a period of questioning and appliance of reasoning to explore many subjects often left untouched. People were leaving behind their past and advocating the use of scientific method instead of unproven beliefs on religion. The Enlightenment takes its name from those who wanted to contribute to a brighter future and society. Different paths were taken in order to make this period possible. The intellectuals didn t immediately gather their information from original scientific sources. Since most philosophers expressed their notions through complex literary works, ... A last important trait for the inspiration of the Enlightenment came from two men. Isaac Newton and John Locke. Newton was known as a genius and made a great deal at instructing his personal rules to later uncover natural laws governing politics, economics, religion, arts, etc. His concept was recognized as the Newtonian world machine. Locke tried to prove that humans were all born plain and acquired their notions of life through nurture instead of nature. He believed people could change and adopt new attitudes to create an improved society. Taken together, these philosophers offered a possibility for a brave new world. The leading figures of the Enlightenment were known as philosophers; they were literary people, professors, journalists, statesmen, and social reformers above all. They emerged from various social classes though most were French. They helped shape the culture in France and most importantly, Paris, but their movement soon spread across Europe and to the West. Although they had different backgrounds, they all shared a common point which was to discuss and attempt to change the world. Philosophers relied on scientific methods to explain events and applied rational criticism on all their works. A few dominant men left us with lasting impressions. Montesquieu, a French noble, ... • 7. Francisco Goya May 3 1808 Francisco Goya s The Executions of May 3, 1808, is a remarkably interesting piece of art. This piece represents a protest against the Napoleon Occupational Army in Madrid. There are various visual elements and design principles in the art, which will be covered. The beginning of this ILO will contain the visual elements first, followed by the design principles, and what they mean in the artwork. In Goya s art, we can see the primary, visual element of lines. Lines represent motion, dynamics, and direction. The soldiers are aiming their rifles at a group of prisoners waiting for execution. Horizontal lines indicate a peaceful scene, however, in this case, it would be appropriate to say they mean a sense of destruction or death, as the title of the art depicts. As the view follows the direction of the lines, the viewer is immediately drawn to the man with the bright white shirt. The values of the piece are relatively dark and morbid, however, when we look at the man with the white shirt, we can see the opposite effect of the bright white shirt. Going back to the element of lines, once the viewer looks at the man with the white shirt, you can see his hands are in a diagonal position. These diagonal lines represent dynamics and tension. The pressure comes from the imminent execution of that man. When we talk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We must also deduce whether the balance is symmetrical or asymmetrical. Please realize that I am not an expert in this matter but simply a concerned citizen who would regret to know that negative environmental and community effects would result from the construction of facilities associated with a natural gas pipeline and production. Allow me to start by saying that this state and the Kenai Peninsula community, are very important to me. The ANA (antinuclear antibody) test is commonly used. This test looks for antibodies that react against the components of the nucleus of the body s cells. The doctor can also order a biopsy of the kidney s or the skin if those body parts are affected. The doctor can also order a test for anticardiolipin antibodies. A Report On Life Savers Bailey Edwards Carter English 12 28 April 2015 Life Savers According to the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute, Fire departments in the United States respond to 1.8 million fires each year or about four fires every minute. Annually, more than 5,000 Americans are killed and 100,000 are injured as a result of fires, and annual property loss due to fires has been estimated to be as high as $10 billion (Smith et al.1). Which means there are many firefighters risking their lives to save others . They know the risks but love doing it. Today, most firefighters are provided with a full encapsulated ensemble that incorporates technological advancements in thermal protection, breathability, chemical resistance and reflectivity (Tutterow). PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) protects firefighters from almost anything presented on a fire scene yet, still is not enough to lower the rates of deaths and injuries in the fire service. Firefighter PPE needs to reduce deaths and injuries and continue advancements in technology, all while maintaining a reasonable cost. If the United States continues to make advancements in PPE technology it will decrease the number of fatalities and injuries. Fig. 2 16 shows schematically the geological conditions in marginal areas of the Zechstein basin which provided the prerequisites for the inclusion of gases: tectonic events created passage ways (fissures) through the salt sequence, allowing gases and brines to escape from their host formations below the consolidated and therefore impermeable salt sequences. When contacting potash beds, the brines caused alterations of the potash beds, dissolving the most soluble potash minerals and precipitating less soluble salts; as the result, carnallite was replaced by sylvite and halite. Although gas inclusions in salt rocks are extremely important in some salt and potash mining districts for their effects on mining operations, they received little attention in textbooks which are now available in English translations, e.g., Borchert and Muir (1964) and Braitsch (1971). This may be due to the fact that, at the time when the German originals were written, these matters were still under controversial discussion; see Gimm and Pforr (1964) with contributions by Obert, Ignatieff, Panek, Baar. More recent publications (e.g., Gimm, 1968) indicate that the views expressed by Baar (1954d, 1958,1962) have been generally accepted. As the formation of gas inclusions in salt rocks requires special conditions, as outlined, such inclusions are rare in salt sequences without potash salts, as no reaction salts could form. This is the reason why the salt domes of the Gulf Coast are free from gas inclusions, with the exception of some cases where gases were occluded in recrystallizing halite, or secondary halite which may have crystallized from migrating solutions due to cooling. In contrast, the salt domes of northern Europe are loaded with pockets of salt rocks with abundant gas inclusions; as a matter of fact, several potash mines were abandoned at the beginning of this century because of the problems caused by gas outbursts (Gimm, 1968, p. 553). Procedurally generated art can produce works that mimic a drawing, painting or photograph, but there is a complication in defining the work as an algorithm or a creative work. Even so, when their user interfaces were compared there were a number of similarities. The judge ruled that copying had taken place on that basis. This precedent states that, in the UK, the end result of a program is what matters and that its internal function is irrelevant to issues of copyright. Applied to Perlin s procedural art, this could potentially be dangerous. If someone wished to obtain similar results to his they would have to be wary of copyright law. Even if they could mimic his techniques without copying any of his code, they would still potentially be found to have violated copyright since the end results would be similar. As well as copyright law, patent law could also be an issue. European patent law expressly prohibits the granting of patents for programs for computers (European Patent Convention, 2000). Strangely, the United States takes the opposite stance. It will not grant patents consisting solely of mathematical operations, i.e., converting one set of numbers into another set of numbers, does not manipulate appropriate subject matter and thus cannot constitute a statutory process (United States Patent and Trademark Office, 2008). In this article, the author explores the modern day definition of the word technology and argues that technology offers too broad of a definition and is ill fitting to describe all technical advancements and their creators. Technology can be defined as the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science (dictionary.com). On the other hand, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In simpler terms, Lukacs is saying that there is so much to the word technology that it all should not be confined into one. He also believes, like Marx, that human involvement is not credited enough. Marx also refers to Lukacs definition of reification: is what occurs when we endow a human activity with the characteristics of a thing or things (Lukacs, 83 87). Marx proceeds to argue that technologies are represented by things. For instance, Marx says that when someone hears transportation technology what comes to mind are things like automobiles, airplanes, and trains. This, in some way, distracts the person from the human involvement. Let s take an automobile for an example. Say you have a Prius. Often times when someone talks about a car, we think a lot about the brand. It is a well known fact that the Prius is made by Toyota. It also is obvious that Toyota is a company made up of people who come up with ideas for cars and put them into action. Therefore, when someone thinks about a car, they also think about the company. This proves that we do acknowledge the fact that human creation is a huge part of technology. Marx insists that technologies are viewed and put into a category of things . Nonetheless, it can be said that Marx argument is invalid. Human involvement in technology is not only implied, but it simply would not exist without humans. As stated in the above paragraph, it is clear that technology cannot produce itself. Even when we cover the topic of technology in a history class for example, we learn about the creation, who created, and what it does. As an illustration, think of a telephone. As part of our education, in American history class, teachers teach us about the invention of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Power is decentralized in the U.S. political system as it aims to give citizens more power in decision making processes. It is also spread throughout the system rather than being concentrated to one government. The power of the government enhances the power of individuals and also make it easier for individuals to participate in the government. It also supports democratization by giving citizens more influence in the formulation and implementation of policies as it enhances transparency and accountability from the government. If there was a centralized federal government and were to make a big mistake by implementing a destructive policy, everybody would suffer greatly. Since the large centralized governments are a concentrated source of political power, there can be serious problems when individuals become corrupted or fail to do their jobs. As for the centralized city governments, if they were to become corrupted or fail to respond to local residents, it would be much easier, than national governments, to hold accountable due to their small size.
