Essay on Nisa Life and Words of a Kung Woman
Nisa: The life and words of a !kung woman:response Nisa: the life and words of a !kung woman
written by Marjorie Shostak is a book about a woman named nisa of the !kung people. It entails the
stories of her struggles and the many horrific tragedies in her life and how it shapes who and how she
is. The book Is basically an interview of a fifty year old nisa, it is written in her perspective of what it
is like to live in such a society. She suffered quite a few devastating tragedies as aforementioned
which included, the death of four of her children, two as infants and two as adults. Even shostak says
that none of the !kung women suffered tragedies the way nisa did. The story evokes the importance of
women to the tribe. Most of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

because I was small which made my mom stop at times. It is very similar to the way Nisa describes
her older brother Dau and his protection over her except it s the other way around . Nisa tells of stories
of Dau and how she looks up to him time and time again. She remembers that some occasions Dau
would bring her mongongo nuts because it is her favorite. In another occasion Nisa s older brother
would intervene when their parents treat her punitively because Nisa would sometimes disobey what
her told her not to do. In conclusion, shostak acquired a lot of knowledge from her stay with the !kung
people. She learned that their culture is not really different from that of western civilizations, though
their culture is seen as embryonic in terms of technology and medicine. They are thought of as
primitive and looked down on because they do no project the image of technologically sound people.
Despite all these the !kung civilization is similar to our civilization by the social bonds we share with

What do creativity and innovation signify and entail? What are the key types of innovation?
Historically, creativity and innovation have been thought to been tied to new products that stimulate
economic growth. Over time, these views were thought to have been narrowand new ideas of
innovation came about. Karl Marx associated innovation to economic growth cycles. After World War
II, much thought was given to innovation being a result of higher spending on research and design.
Economists soon realized there was no direct correlation between innovation and R D. Newer
contemporary thought notes that innovation is a result of acquiring knowledge and being able to
harness it into the development of new processes and products. Innovation is ... Show more content on

Assess the market environment of the industries Geox operates in. Who are Geox s key competitors?
What strategies and options are available to Geox for sustaining its position in these industries?
Producing over 16 billion pairs of shoes in 2007, the global footwear industry is a monster. To put that
in other terms, that is almost three pairs of shoes for every person on the planet. Geox is the producer
of shoes that are marketed in the casual sports footwear industry. Its key competitors, Nike and
Adidas, are household names, while Clark s is not. Nike and Adidas dwarf the sales of Clark and
Geox. Nike and Adidas had sales of $19 billion and $14 billion respectively, while Geox, a niche
competitor, had sales of $600 million. While Nike and others compete in almost every pricing
segment, Geox focuses on the medium to medium high market. The breathability focus of the products
focuses Geox in the athletic apparel, running, gym, and golf product lines. While the shoes must look
good, breathability performance is what sets Geox apart from others. This is its distinguishing feature.
To reduce production costs, the company like its competitors before it, moved operations primarily to
China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Brazil, all locations for cheap labor. Geox teamed with its production
partner Aokang to distribute and market the shoes in China. The marketing strategy for

The Corruption Of Saddam Hussein
Throughout history corruption has been laid upon many countries changing it in numerous ways. This
corruption derives through certain people, creating a havoc for those having to follow orders set by
leaders they blindly follow. In Iraq, citizens have been tortured, forced to relocate their families,
arrested and murdered. All of this happened under the control of Saddam Hussein and we have neither
found, nor did he offer an explanation to these actions. He has been notorious for attacking people
who disagreed with his opinions, especially other politicians that would give any sort of competition
to access leadership for Iraq. He is responsible for persecuting and denying his own citizens human
rights. Not only physically but financially, spending all of the countries money on monuments and
palaces as he watches his people die from malnutrition and lack of medical attention.
Saddam Hussein was born on April 28, 1937 in a village called Ouja, near Tikrit in Northern Iraq, He
grew up in a broken home, His family was poor, they were peasants who did not have a home. He
grew up without a father, it is unknown if his father died or disappeared when he was younger. When
he was still a child, he was sent to live with his uncle, Khairallah Tulfah, who made a deep impact on
what Hussein later did in his life. There is proof that Saddam was connected to violence at an early
age. There are several reports that link him to the murders of a school teacher and/or a

St. Augustine s Life
St. Augustine was born in Taagaste, Roman North Africa on November 13, 354 AD and was given the
name Aurelius by his parents Patricius and Monica Augustine. At the time of his birth, his father was
still a pagan, but his mother eventually converted him to Christianity (Chadwick 6). Aurelius was
raised receiving a Christian education and from a very young age, he had a great respect for the
religion. He learned to make the Sign of the Cross and certain ideas about the faith he kept very dear
to his heart including: a Divine Providence, Christ the Lord Savior, and the belief that hell existed for
those who did not live up to the Christian Faith s standards (Chadwick 11). Augustine did very well in
school and his father decided to send him to Carthage to pursue a study in forensic studies (Farrell 5).
The young man found a city living by pagan rules, where every desire of evil was encouraged.
Augustine had a very competitive spirit, and in such a city the only goal was who could be the very
worst. During this time he had a girlfriend whom he had a son with, and he lived with her for thirteen
years. His son only lived for seventeen years, and then died (Chadwick 20). This period of his life was
eventually looked on by himself with a great deal of regret and guilt which lead to some of his
writings including his famous books Confessions. At this point he decided to turn his life around and
saw rhetoric, reason, and philosophy as his new found passions. Augustine found solace

In May of 1787 a Constitutional Convention was call by 55 individuals in Philadelphia. Most of them

Essay On Homecoming Midnight Madness
I attended the 2016 Homecoming Midnight Madness. The pep rally had many performances by the
cheerleaders and dance team. There was also a half court shooting contest, but nobody was able to
make a basket. There were a lot of free items to collect such as t shirts, cups, hats, and towels. The free
items were so nice and I was so excited to get a hat. The pep rally made me feel like Seton Hill truly is
a home away from home. It felt like we were all a big family at the pep rally because we were all
having a great time together. I also liked being able to have some fun with my friends because we are
always studying. There are many ways I could become more involved in the event. I could volunteer
to be a MC for the event, which I would be nervous about because I do not like to speak in front of
large crowds. I could volunteer to hand out the free items, which I would like to do better than being
the MC. I could not perform in the pep rally because I am not a member of the dance or cheerleading
team. I would not be interested in that because I am not a talented dancer. ... Show more content on

American Perspective On Hackers
Analysis: The American Perspective On Hackers
The issue of public information has always been a controversy in our world. One of our country s
founding arguments was based on the necessity of free speech and free information. Many now
believe that our government is being overly restrictive on information, blocking and controlling some
aspects of free speech that first amendment advocates feel are necessary to maintain our American
society. These advocates of free information have been using the nickname hackers for over twenty
years, but improper use by the media has stretched the word to slanderous levels. Hackers are now
stereotyped as mindless vandals and miscreants, although the word hacker has been used as a term for

The irrationality of this fear is proven by the contrasting attitude of technically oriented society.
The technically oriented part of society is made up of (at the very minimum) very advanced home
users, capable of modifying parts of their computer and fixing most problems. This sect also includes
network administrators and operators, most programmers, and most computer hardware specialists.
Not all programmers or hardware specialists fall under this description, because many of them do not
have or need a full understanding of a computer in order to complete their job. These technically
oriented people have enough knowledge about computers so as to not automatically resort to fear.
Most of them understand the vast difference between a cyber vandal and a true hacker. In fact, most of
them have acted as either a cyber vandal, hacker, or both at some time in their past. They generally see
that actual hackers are not intent on damaging things.
Actual hackers are content with the free spread of information and thought. The people that
technically inclined individuals avoid and sometimes fear are the delinquents and vandals who find it
amusing to damage and ruin data. In an attempt to make people think they are anything more than
attention starved brats with computers, these vandals prefer to be called hackers.
The most amazing set of opinions comes from the

Genesis Allegory
The Bible in the Christian religion is used as a guide and answer book to any concerns that one might
have. With one concern having in mind about whether evolution happened or not, perhaps Genesis has
a hidden message about this topic. In the beginning of chapter two of Genesis, it starts by God
creating the first man and woman and placing them in the garden of Eden. God told Adam and Eve
that they can eat from any tree and plant they want, but except the fruits from the tree of knowledge.
At some time, a snake described as the most intelligent of all the wild animals appeared and told Eve
that probably the reason why the Lord didn t allowed anyone to eat the fruits because they will see
clearly and.. will be like God, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3). Eve, thinking the tree of knowledge
will provide her wisdom, eats the fruit as well her husband Adam. As a result, humanity till now
suffers the consequences of Adam and Eve as same with the snake, it was known as an intelligent
animal to a cursed one. This allegory in Genesis warns humanity about too much knowledge . For
example, the snake was known as the most intelligent creature, but yet it was the cause of the downfall
of Adam and Eve. Eve disobeyed God and took a bite of the fruit from the tree of knowledge, because
she wanted to be like God and obtain the understatement of life. ... Show more content on

Too much information has brought humanity the usage of the most dangerous and powerful weapon,
the nuclear bomb. Imagine what destructive weapon will humanity obtain if they were to expand their

negative impact, but for those who don t have a religious belief, Hawking has also stated that
expanding knowledge won t benefit our fight for

Literary Exploration on of Mice and Men
Literary Exploration In life we are part of many roles that create dangers we face that may lie beyond
our understanding. Even though these roles are hard to understand, they can give meaning to our life.
In John s Steinbeck Of Mice and Men, we see these men s day to day lives, the main character;
George takes care of his friend Lennie who has difficulties understanding the rules of the world we
live in. Through the story there are many ups and downs mostly involving Lennie, who is trying to see
through the eyes of George and to do and be as George is. For this reason George is constantly trying
to think of what is best for Lennie. Through all of this they face even more dangers and still try to find
a way to raise money for a farm to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . every damn one of em s got a little piece of land in his head. An never a God damn one of em ever
gets it. Just like heaven. Ever body wants a little piece of lan . I read plenty of books out here. Nobody
never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land. In this passage , after Lennie shares with Crooks his
plan to buy a farm with George and raise rabbits, Crooks tries to deflate Lennie s hopes which creates
dangers that may lie beyond our understanding. He relates that hundreds of men have passed through
the ranch, all of them with dreams like Lennie s. Not one of them, he emphasizes with bitterness, ever
succeeds to make that dream come true. Crooks shows a sense of reality, telling again of Lennie s
childlikeness , and that the dream of a farm is, after all, only a dream. This moment show s off Crook s
character, and how a lifetime of loneliness and cruelty can lead to bitterness. It also furthers Steinbeck
s disturbing thought s that those who have strength and power in the world are not the only ones
responsible for cruelty. As Crooks shows, even though he was hurt by others, he seeked out Lennie
and attacked him because he is even weaker than Crooks is. Sometimes in life we have difficulty in
decisions that makes us question our morals even deeper our character.

Tracking Is An Assault On Liberty By Nicholas Carr
In the essay, Tracking Is an Assault on Liberty by Nicholas Carr, he argues the importance of privacy
when one is surfing the web. Carr writes how companies personalize ads they provide on the internet
based on our personal information. We are not aware of the consequences and the information we
disclose about ourselves on the internet. Everything we do on the internet is recorded and stored.
Nicholas Carr uses ethos and counter argument/refutation to express to his audience that their privacy
is being violated. Carr utilizes ethical appeals to identify to his readers that he/she has a right to their
own privacy and how companies and organizations are violating it. He strengthens his ethical appeal
and argument by collecting ample evidence from professionals in the field. Carr writes, ...the
computer consultant Tom Owad... wrote a simple piece of software that allowed him to download
public wish lists that Amazon.com customers post to catalog products that they plan to purchase...Mr.
Owad ended up with maps of the United States showing the locations of people interested in particular
books and ideas... (Carr 437). Carr uses an expert to enhance his argument and provide a credible
source. The greater a person s authority, the more likely an audience is inclined to listen and be
persuaded. By putting an expert s research on his essay, Carr s audience will be convinced which will
lead them to trust him more. Another example where Carr uses an expert s opinion is when he notes,
As the computer security expert Bruce Schneier has observed, privacy is not just a screen we hide
behind when we do something naughty or embarrassing; privacy is intrinsic to the concept of liberty.
When we feel that we re always being watched, we begin to lose our sense of self reliance and free
will and, along with it, our individuality (Carr 439). Carr uses Scheiner s, a computer security expert,
to tell his readers how one feels when they feel like they lost their privacy. Car uses reasoned
argument by stating series of statements that use evidence and reasoning to support his claim.
Carr also uses counterargument/refutations to influence the readers that our personal datas may fall in
the wrong hands. He writes, You have

The Three Major Theories Of Social Change In Society
Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed (Cesar Chavez). Social change, is exactly that, an
alteration in the social order of a society. The three major theories of social change include:
evolutionary theory, functionalist theory and conflict theory. Evolutionary theory is society viewed as
moving in a definite direction, simple to complex social structures. Functionalist theory is a societal
system of interconnected parts that work together in harmony to maintain a state of balance. The
conflict theory claims society is in state of continuous conflict due to competition for limited
resources. In this contingent powerful groups can maintain the status quo. Society has changed over
the years. One social change in society would be social media. Being able to share opinions so freely
has become a hot topic in today s news. For example, social media not only allows gateways to others
confidential information but it also serves as a way for terrorist to send threats that can be seen by the
public. With social media, comes technology which creates new possibilities. Computer technology;
shrinks the world by decreasing time and distance between sources of information. It improves
medical care with quick diagnostic and treatment information through video consultation, and
increases educational learning options and workplace options. The negative effects of technology
consist of amplified surveillance of people and condensed privacy. Another change in society over the
years

The European Monetary Union (EMU)
The European Monetary Union (EMU) The Euro as a Single Currency
Liberalizing trade is nothing new to the world, but we have never witnessed such a vast economic
integration between sovereign countries like the integration carried out in the European Union.
Customs duties between European countries started to come down steadily in the early 1950s and
were abolished in 1968 with the introduction of a customs union and the implementation of the
common external tariff. The official proclamation of the single market on 1 January 1993 marked the
ending of non tariff barriers to trade between Member States.

A financial institution that fails to provide such services would run the risk of losing business.
The introduction of the euro will have important implications not only for the Union and its Member
States but also for their partners. But while it will be a major event for international monetary relations
and the international monetary system, there will be no abrupt change; nor is it likely to be
destabilizing.
In order to prepare for the euro, and once it is in place, Member States need to follow sound economic
policies based on low inflation, healthy public finances and stable monetary conditions. These rules of
good economic management are the recipe for low interest rates, strong investment growth, and
therefore high growth and job creation. Firms across the world and not just in Europe will benefit
from these improved growth prospects. The strength of Europe as a trade partner will open new
prospects for exporters in the rest of the world. Foreign companies especially will benefit, because
there will be only one market to penetrate rather than 15. Therefore, the costs of doing business in
Europe will go down significantly, fostering competition and lowering prices across the Union.
The international role of the euro will probably become evident first in the European zone of
influence, that is in those countries which have

The Impact Of Ordinary People Essay
As people live their daily lives, they have an effect on others whether that is knowingly or
unknowingly. These effects can be positive or negative, but either way they contribute in the making
of individuals identities. People that have the advantage of having someone come into their life, and
help them form a healthy identity are quite lucky. In Ordinary People, by Judith Guest, Conrad was an
adolescent who was severely depressed until he met that person that helped him form a healthy

Karen did because he got the social support he needed to cope with his grief. The decision Conrad
made of continuing to see Dr. Berger was a very smart step because a lot of people like Karen give up,
but he kept trying. This helped him avoid extreme measures and was a sign that he was starting to find
his identity. Equally important, when Conrad went to Dr. Berger for support after Karen s death he
said this to Dr. Berger after they talked about it, I don t know what I would have done if I couldn t
have gotten you this morning. I feel so shaky (Guest 227). This proved that Dr. Berger did hold
Conrad back from not hurting himself, and helped him control his feelings. In short, Dr. Berger helped
Conrad avoid suicide, which then gave Conrad the chance to realize he was a stronger person than he
thought he was. With this, he found his confident identity at the end of the book, which he would not
have gotten without Dr. Berger.
Berger also helped reduce Conrad s feelings of remorse. Conrad felt a lot of guilt for attempting
suicide because he felt his mother, Beth would never forgive him. They had a very rocky relationship

The Man Inside The Tobacco Barn
In April of 1865, Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States, was assassinated at
Ford s Theater in Washington, DC. His assassin was John Wilkes Booth, who was a very famous actor
at the time. Less than two weeks after he committed the horrible deed, Booth was cornered by the
Sixteenth New York Cavalry in a tobacco barn in Virginia. John Wilkes Booth refused to surrender, so
the forces responded by setting the barn ablaze. Although the Cavalry wanted to keep Booth alive,
Sergeant Boston Corbett defied orders and shot Booth in the neck. The gunshot proved to be fatal and
Booth died a few hours later. The body of Booth was identified by Dr. John Frederick May, who
examined the body in Washington, DC. He may have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then secretly saw a doctor, and continued fleeing from the authorities while being hidden in the
back of a wagon. Booth carried papers with him at all times that identified him as the assassin of
Lincoln, although they were very risky and could cause his demise. One day, during his escape in the
wagon, Booth was informed that the soldiers were approaching. As he fled the wagon, he dropped his
papers. When he was back in safety, John Wilkes Booth sent a messenger to go and retrieve the lost
papers. While the messenger was searching for the papers, another person informed Booth that
soldiers were once again approaching. Booth had to retreat from his hideout once more and therefore
could not wait for the messenger to return with his papers. While Booth was somewhere else, the
messenger himself was cornered and killed by the cavalry in the tobacco barn, since the papers
seemed to legitimately identify their holder as the infamous John Wilkes Booth. Thus, his unfortunate
messenger was the recipient of the fatal gunshot, not Booth himself.
John Wilkes Booth was able to escape to the southwest instead of being shot in the tobacco barn
shortly after he assassinated Abraham Lincoln. He was living under the pseudonym John St. Helen
while residing with his friend, Finis Bates, in Texas in 1877. While St. Helen was very ill, he
confessed to Bates that he himself killed Lincoln. When St. Helen recovered, Bates questioned him

Glorification Of Nature In Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
The power and glorification of nature and how it can be a spiritual source of renewal for individuals is
highlighted through the works of artists of the Romantic period. Rime of the Ancient Mariner by
Samuel Coleridge and Blueback by Tim Winton both display the influences that nature can have on an
individual, spiritually and emotionally, and presents a clearer understanding of the natural world.
The poem by Samuel Coleridge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner depicts a strong belief and interest in
nature and how the natural world can be a place where God can be found. The contrast between the
language of the quotes slimy things and O happy living things demonstrates this change in perspective
as the narrator realises the beauty of nature. During his punishment, the Mariner was able to see the
real beauty of nature and as a result, he had the ability to rejoice and pray about what he was seeing.
By recognising the elegance in the environment that surrounded him, it enabled the Mariner to be free
from his imprisonment. Like the belief in God, the Mariner first feared but finally loved the natural
elements of the world. Throughout the journey, the wonder and beauty of nature and how it can be a
spiritual finding is brought into focus.
Through the use of a metaphor in the quote As if it had been a Christian soul, we hailed it in God s
name. it reveals that the albatross was seen as a connection to God. The albatross was seen as a good
omen and it was the first sign of life

Taking a Closer Look at Behaviorists Essay
Psychology is a science that focuses primarily on the study of the mind, but it can also be the study of
behavior. Behaviorism is a worldview that assumes a learner is essentially passive, responding to
environmental stimuli. The learner starts off as a clean slate and behavior is shaped through positive
reinforcement or negative reinforcement. Both positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement
increase the probability that the antecedent behavior will happen again. The study of only behavior in
Psychology is called Behaviorism. The Psychologists who study the school of Behaviorism go by the
title of Behaviorists or Behavioral Psychologists. Behaviorists have their own theories and principles

Pavlov sounded a bell when a group of dogs were eating. Pavlov continued this action for several
meals. After a while, Pavlov was able to sound the bell without giving the dogs food and the dogs
would salivate. This is because Pavlov conditioned their behavior so that the dogs would salivate at
the sound of the bell. Watson did something very similar with his Little Albert experiment. Watson and
Rosalie Rayner, a graduate student, conducted an experiment called Albert B on a nine month old boy
named Albert. In the Albert B experiment, Watson and Rayner showed Albert many white objects
including a white rabbit. Watson and Rayner gave Albert the white rabbit again, but this time they hit a
metal pipe with a hammer. The loud noise made Albert cry. They continued this process until the sight
of the white rabbit, without the noise of the pipe, made Albert cry. This proved that emotions can be
altered by changing an organism s behavior. John Broadus Watson was born in Greenville, South
Carolina on January 9, 1878. Watson grew up in a horrible home. Watson s father cheated on his
mother, and his terrible home life led him to be a trouble child. When Watson was in school, he would
harass the African American children that went there with him. Watson was also arrested twice for
violent behavior. This is very ironic because Watson was a Behaviorist. Watson attended Furman

The Grudge Essays
Lesson Four: Capstone Review
(The Grudge)
The film I recently watched was The Grudge. The film was filmed entirely in Tokyo where Japanese
director Takaghi Shimizu brought the popular Japanese horror stories to the American movie viewers.
I went into The Grudge expecting a horror film based on the previews I had seen. When I watched the
movie I found it to be quite a bit scary than what the previews had made it to be. So the film held up to
its previews, however it was scary I would not rank it very high.
The movie stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, During the film Sarah Michelle Gellar plays (Karen Davis) as
an American exchange student who volunteers at a home care agency in return for university credit.
When one of the regular nurses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Karen is about to set the plot through a series of flashbacks and flash forwards, this film tells of
horrible events that happen in a house and forever stains the place to the point where anyone and
everyone who enters is cursed and will eventually be claimed by the ghosts who inhabit the place. The
movie claims the Japanese believe if a person dies in a fit of rage, their spirit continues to haunt the
living.
The acting by Sarah Michelle Gellar during the movie was good and the rest of the acting isn t bad
either, there really wasn t any actor that didn t do a good job fulfilling his or her part. The films special
effects are also pretty good, they are also very freighting as well. The best thing about the movie and
what really makes the movie so scary is that it has some great cinematography. The shots look good,
and there are a great number of shots in the movie. The scenes are weird and a little outrageous at
times from the repeated gruesome images of a bloodied woman, depictions of suicides, murders, to the
disfigured body parts, but I do like how the film does fit the disjointed scenes together, it leaves your
imagination filling

At this current time that position is held by Joe Biden. Beneath Vice President Biden is the President

therefore they are further removed from what the American citizens want and need. This leads me to

Tim Kreider The Busy Trap Analysis
Present day American society is fast paced and constantly moving forward. With so many things to do
in such little time, busyness and stress seem to take over our lives. In The Busy Trap, Tim Kreider s
position as to why the audience should strive to avoid busyness is very well thought out, however,
some of the points in the essay have faulty reasoning.
This essay presents the argument that instead of keeping a busy life, we should live a carefree and
relaxed life instead. The busyness that overtakes our lives often comes subconsciously, which we
submit to, without even realizing it ourselves. This supports Kreider s claims that busyness is a trap .
He also points out that once it has begun to overtake our lives, we begin to accept it and are led to
believe that there is no way to avoid it. Once we start to believe that busyness is an unavoidable part
of life, then we fall into the busy trap. The author also encourages the audience to avoid a busy
lifestyle giving several reasons why a relaxed lifestyle is more ideal. The author also challenges the
audience to avoid busyness and to strive towards a less stressful lifestyle.
According to the author, people are ...busy because of their own ambition, drive, or anxiety, because
they are addicted to busyness and dread what they might have to face in its absence (Kreider 982).
Kreider has taken a position that rejects anyone with a busy life. This generalization gives his readers
a negative misconception that people with busy lives are responsible for their own daily stress. This is
an example of Ad Hominem. Ad Hominem is used when personal attacks on those who support a
position are used, as opposed to creating counterarguments based on principle (Lunsford 400). By
accusing busy people of being addicted to busyness (Kreider 985), he targets busy people individually
through his claim that they are to blame for any stress and anxiety that may be caused by
overwhelming busyness.
The author also insinuates that modern day society supports busyness and most Americans have
inserted themselves into this pattern, if only by our own acquiescence (Kreider 983). The author
argues that busyness is something we collectively force one another to do (Kreider

Manchester United Research Paper
Why is Manchester United Football Club so successful? Manchester United Football Club (F.C.) is
not only the biggest club in football club in England but also one of the largest and most popular
teams in the world according to World Football / Soccer Clubs Ranking (Mitchell 2013). This
investigation will focus on the key factors leading to Manchester united success. Success can come
from players, coaches or even owners for providing financial resources but for Manchester United the
success came from winning trophies at early years under impressive management.(Mitchell 2013) It
also discusses players from the academy and the role that experienced players had in the development
of new players and the club mentality. History Manchester United was founded as Newton Heath LYR
FC in 1878. In 1902 that club changed its name to Manchester United Football Club and eight years
later moved into their current stadium called Old Trafford. The clubs historic stadium, also known as
the Theatre of Dreams, has been transformed over the years and is currently the biggest club stadium
in England beside Wembley. The clubs amazing haul of silverware started with the Manchester Trophy
in 1886, when they were still recognized as Newton Heath. Magnall (manager) helped United lift their
first two titles. The first title in 1908 and the second in 1911 also their first FA cup in 1909 (Mitchell

Breast Reconstruction Surgery
3853: Sociology of the Body
March 10, 2016 Breast Reconstruction Surgery
In this paper, I will examine the origins of breast reconstruction as well as evaluate the overall surgery
amongst women, surgeons and our society today. The treatment of breast cancer has improved
remarkably from the original surgeries that were developed by Halsted (Uroskie Colen, 2004). The
techniques such as Gilles walking flap or the idea behind the reshaping of a breast mound from the
free perforated flap using internal tissue have been advanced and solidified in our current surgical
society (Uroskie et al., 2004). Although breast reconstruction was once strongly criticized it is now

This is when the surgeon uses tissues, flap , such as skin, fat or muscle from another part of your body
in order to reconstruct your breast tissue ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). In the free flap
process the tissue is taken from the original blood vessels and moved onto the chest area whereas the
pedicled flap remains attached to the original blood vessel and moved underneath the skin to the new
placement on the chest ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). The pedicled flap tends to be the
surgery more widely available due to the fact that if you have a free flap surgery then your surgeon
must be trained in microsurgery, which typically involves being able to reattach the tissues blood
vessels to the chest area to sustain blood supply ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). These
kinds of reconstruction surgeries tend to be more sought after because the tissue from different places
in the body last a lifetime whereas the implants most women receive have to be replaced every 10 or
20 years ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). Overall, the effects from each of these surgeries
highly depend on your body type as well as daily activities, physical strength and the range of motion
within the limbs of the body; therefore, what works for one individual does not always work for

Jimmy Carter Literature Review
Jimmy Carter was a very avid Christian before, during and after his time in office. He is commonly
acknowledged of being one of the most religious presidents in history. The purpose of this literature
review is to give an overview of how academia interprets Carter s religiosity. Berggren and Rae
(2006) describe Carter as an Evangelical style president with a strong devotion to his corresponding
Evangelical Faith. He is referred to being the born again president. Carter had a born again experience
during his pre presidential life which supports he was evangelist during this part of his life. In this
experience, he questioned his faith after a failed attempt to become governor. It wasn t until his sister,
a devout evangelist, spoke to and convinced him that he had not fully dedicated himself to God, that
he had a born again realization and devoted himself to Christ. Carter s Evangelical Faith is further
supported by him referencing himself as born again and saying, I believe God wants me to be the best
politician I can be (Lindsay, 2007). Lindsay s article also reasons that at the beginning of his
presidency Carter had a high rate of evangelical approval because these people could easily connect
with like minded president. Carter s evangelism religiosity is demonstrated by these two sources
before and during his early administration but gives no insight into how might have changed during
and after his presidency. Preston (2012, 575) expands on Carter s evangelical

Over the course of the last 47 years our level of wasted food has increased by 40% meaning that we

could fill 730 football stadiums. This food waste also is hurting the environment in a major way,
increasing our CO2 levels exponentially. All of this food that we waste could be going to serving the

Even if people understood that food would still not get to people who need it because getting the food
to the hungry and to shelters and the poor is not cheap for the suppliers and is actually cheaper for
them to just throw it away. That might be the biggest issue of all because for businesses to donate food
is very expensive, they have to box it, store it, coordinate delivery dates, and there s a lot of
overheads, and you cannot blame most companies for trying to make ends meat. Companies are also
not charities, which is why companies should be incentivized to donate food with tax breaks, large
corporations already get one, charity s get them and it would increase the amount of food that s being
donated exponentially. Especially for small companies because annoyingly small companies tax
breaks are not a permanent part of the tax code. This means that Congress has to keep renewing it
which is a problem, because family farms and local restaurants may not know if they re going to get
that break and the end of the year. So donating food might not be financially viable for them. IT s a
ridiculous system that prevents a lot of food from being donated. It s a widely agreed upon statement
that small businesses should receive tax incentives to donate food. Once we do this it will be just one
small piece of stopping this problem, and the

The English Language During The Civil Rights Movement
In our society, the English language has evolved over time and certain words have grown to have
different meanings. Overtime the language shifts. A word would have the same letters for 50 years but
different definitions throughout the time period also known as the semantic change. One such word is
the word wasp . Most commonly referring to the pest that flies around in our backyards that sting us
and leaves us with quite the mark. But this was not the case after the American Civil War up in the
1860 s until the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960 s. The meaning wasp at the time referred to a

The words do not change in their initiative meanings but change in a means that they attain other
meanings or are used to refer to other named objects over time. For example, the word mouse is used
to refer to tiny long tailed animal however, it is now also used to refer to a device used to rheostat
cursor movement. The alteration of meaning occurs because words are constantly used and what is
intended by speakers is not exactly the same each time. If a different intention for a word is shared by

(Malkiel, Yakov). Overtime, the KKK member population has declined due to alternating historical
events. Along with the group, the word WASP has changed also. In the modern time, WASP is used to
simply describe upper class white people. The problem with this is that the same word that was used
in the late 1800s to describe an extremely racist, violent, and unethical group is also now used to
describe a general group of people who are in no way affiliated with former Another problem is that
the term does not seem to be incorrect use. Unlike the term ASP being used today, an Angelo Saxon
protestant is from lower middle class England, particularly East Anglia, in the early 1600s. Some, like
the Puritans, came to North America because they opposed the Church of England. (Abagond). . The
term WASP does represent Angelo Saxon, which were people who inhibited Great Britain from the 5th
century (Encyclopedia Britannica), but it used incorrectly to describe a specific group with a negative

Saul Hudson Research Paper
Slash is the best guitarist of all time. Saul Hudson, better known as Slash was born July 23, 1965 in
Hampstead, United Kingdom. Slash grew up in Los Angeles and learned to play guitar as a teenager.
His mother is African American, and his father is British. Saul got the nickname Slash from a family
friend because he could never stop moving around. He lived with his father and grandparents in Stoke
on Trent until the age of 5 which is just south of Manchester. Then him and his father joined his mom
in Los Angeles. Eventually his parents become divorced and slash falls into some bad habits. He
picked up guitar at the age of 14 and practiced nonstop. Slash is most famously known for being in the
band Guns and Roses as the band s lead guitarist.

Searching A Pupil S Locker Without Probable Cause Is A
Searching a pupil s locker without probable cause is a violation of trust and the Fourth Amendment.
Probable cause is legally defined as Apparent facts discovered through logical inquiry that would lead
a reasonably intelligent and prudent person to believe that an accused person has committed a crime,
thereby warranting his or her prosecution, or that a Cause of Action has accrued, justifying a civil
lawsuit or the search of the person or premises by the free dictionary (Probable Cause). Locker
searches have always been a risky and delicate precaution taken by schools that have occasionally lead
to lawsuits, one instance of legal action being taken as a result of the search of a student is the
notorious 1980 s New Jersey v. T.L.O ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though a fair amount of time and money towards searches there is still an alarming amount of theft
and assault on school property. As technology has advanced over the years schools have gotten
electronic gadgets and techniques to keep students out of trouble. As the amount of technology and
precautions taken to avoid students getting in trouble the amount of students breaking rule increases
with it. Though schools take many steps to protect students, pupils still report that drugs are made
accessible to them on school property, schools combine document that nearly 2 million crimes were
reported to them, and many students still feel unsafe (violence in U.S. public schools). These reports
show that millions of dollars provided by taxes go towards school security and it has done less than
intended. When schools search lockers and students without probable cause they become vulnerable to
many legal issues. In the last decade students have lost much of their fourth amendment rights,
students are losing their rights because the U.S. supreme court continues to give schools more and
more leeway to ensure a safer and more disciplined (Ascd. School right to search students) school.
The fourth amendment states that in order for someone to be searched and arrested he would need to

Cyanide Research Paper
After thoroughly reading this week s material, the specific weapon I have chosen is a chemical
compound such as sodium or potassium cyanides. I have chosen cyanides to be a potential weapon
used, simply because it is a more discrete way to harm mass casualties. According to the CIA, typical
plots focus on poisoning foods or spreading the agent on surfaces to poison via skin contact (CIA
2007). This weapons characteristics is usually described as a salt like material that range from a white
to yellow colored salt. These two specific cyanides are usually used to poison food or drinks, but can
be used with alternative methods. Cyanide salts can be used to penetrate the skin and infect the body
that way, or used as a contact poison. Other examples of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At high doses, cyanides cause immediate collapse. Medical treatments are available, but they need to
be used immediately for severely exposed victims. The accessibility of cyanide is extremely high. In
fact, cyanide is already naturally found in many plants and foods, such as cassava. From my personal
experiences and knowledge, cyanide is manufactured in cigarette smoke, textiles, and plastics. Due to
all of the natural and man made items cyanide is found in, it would seem too easy to gather a large
quantity. With the information provided above, one could only assume that the consequences of
cyanide would result in a great amount of harm. George Washington University s Paul M. Maniscalo
and Donald Wash states, the United States currently lacks an antidote with a favorable risk: benefit
ratio for administration at the scene of a mass casualty incident (Paul M. Maniscalo and Donald Wash,

time before someone finds this as a

Climate Denialism
Alberta s denial of anthropogenic climate change
Hegemonic ideology is shaped in the news by Murphy s above mentioned notion of discursive
framing. Murphy, however makes the sweeping assumption that discursive framing can be applied to
similar conflicts, but this is not always the case. For the purpose of this literature review, discursive
framing will only be applied to the concept of climate denialism that runs rampant in the Calgary
Herald. Murphy (2015, p.355) asserts, denial, dismissal, diversion and displacement are the four
strategies that institutions use in order to exclude uncomfortable knowledge. This debate has a
tendency to occur outside academia and from what I have seen, occasionally surfaces in business
journals that oppose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In view of this, I hypothesize that the Herald will use tactics in order to increase readership and
prevent readers from having to wrestle with new concepts on the subject of climate change. Boykoff
and Smith would be critical of the Calgary Herald and criticize it for presenting climate change as an
evenly balanced debate between apparently expert groups who were believers or deniers (Boykoff and
Smith, 2010, p. 5) I intend on speaking at length in my MRP about the ramifications that arise when
equal weight is given to scientific facts that are by facts and alternative facts that are generated by
emotion. Will Potter in Green Is the New Red: An Insider s Account of a Social Movement Under
Siege (2011, p.133) strengthens Boykoff and Smith s arguments by declaring that balancing false
impressions has taken precedence over critical, investigative reporting that speaks truth to power
(Potter 2011, p.133). A similar approach is taken in Erik Kojola s writing s on the political economy of
the news industry that are informed by Potter s claims. Kojola looks at how truth is being
compromised by corporate consolidation, profit demands, and political biases that are shaped by the
ideological position of newspaper owners and editors (2015, p.7). It is useful to draw upon
Freudenburg (2005) who theorizes about privileged accounts that are given precedence in the media
and in doing so, produce conflictual binaries and recreate dominant

The Nazi Party s Inner Circle Essay
How can ordinary people come to commit atrocities against defenceless victims? Hitler was an evil
man, or at least was prepared to employ evil actions to achieve his goals. There is very little in
literature to suggest anything contrary to this opinion. Most literature suggests that while Hitler had
some level of power over Himmler and the rest of the Nazi Party s inner circle, they were also well
aware of the extent and implications of their actions. Despite this, the atrocities of the Holocaust were
not carried out by these evil leaders, but instead were the actions of thousands of ordinary people
across Europe. In discussing how these people can be motivated to commit atrocities, I will focus on
Christopher Browning s analysis of Holocaust police battalions, along with contradictory evidence. I
will also compare the motivations of Hutu civilians in the mid 1990s, and how their experience
supports and undermines Browning s theory. Browning is seen as a pioneer of Holocaust Studies, and
his literature has drawn great respect and acceptance from the academic world (USHRI 1996). As
such, I will take Browning s theory as my hypothetical explanation of how ordinary people come to
commit atrocities against defenceless victims. Browning believes that indoctrination , along with the
pressing circumstances of a dehumanising war , pushed ordinary men to commit atrocities of which
they normally they would have considered themselves incapable (Browning 1992). Browning s

Application Of Direct Sales Comparison
This report uses the application of direct sales comparison approach to derive the site value for the
subject property. There are sufficient sales of vacant lots within 3 miles of the subject property. Seven
suitable vacant lot sales were selected and analyzed to estimate indicated subject s lot value (table_ 1).
The analysis uses a per sq. ft. unit in valuing the site. The vacant lots were sold March to October of
2013. Lots attribute such as lot size, lot shape, topography, Resource Protected Area (RPA), zoning
which is density of development allowed per acre of land, and traffic patterns were analyzed. The
report used the Fairfax County digital maps of property, resource protected area, and topography
maps. In addition, aerial photography data was used to determine the level of traffic in areas
surrounding each lot.
The comparable lot sales are similar to the subject in term of land features such as lot shape, land use,
topography, and traffic patterns. The main differences in the comparable lots are observed in terms of
lot size, RPA, and zoning (density of development allowed per acre of land).
This report originally selected twenty one vacant or lots with old buildings which were subsequently
razed and replaced with newer and larger contemporary homes. In order to conduct a meaningful
analysis, the report calculated per sq. ft. median sales price of $7.20 based on the original twenty one
vacant lot sales (appendix _A). This figure is only used for adjusting the size

Adam Smith s View Of Capitalism
Q3. Adam Smith was a professor at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Adam Smith defended the
ideas of a free economy or a free market. He wrote about his ideas in his book The Wealth of Nations.
In his book, he addressed three main claims that he believed backed up his thesis of capitalism.
Capitalism is an economic system in which the production is privately owned and money is invested
for the purpose of a profit. Adam Smith s main belief was that the government should have no control
within a business.
Adam Smith was the founder of the capitalism theory. He strongly believed that the government
should not interfere with the businesses. To back up his claims about the government, he wrote his
own book setting forth his own ideas on the topic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adam Smith would argue that competition would force people to make better products. Honestly, I
would agree with his claim on competition. I agree because, when you are faced with competition, you
want to make yourself better than the other person. For example, if you had your on business and
someone else decided to start up a business similar to yours, competition would begin quickly. The
other new business would come as a threat, you would need to ensure that your current consumers
stayed with your business. If you began to lose consumers to your competitor, your business would
not last very long. With Adam Smith s law of competition, it would quite literally force business
owners to make better products. Consumers were looking for the best product with the cheapest price.
For example, your business sold a phenomenal product; however, your latest rival also sold the same
satisfying product for a cheaper price. The consumer would learn more towards the business that sold
the product for the lower price. In the end, as a business owner, you would want to sell the best quality
of your product at the lowest price possible. The law of competition would ensure the consumer with a
win win situation, consider the quality and low price of the

The Space Shuttle Challenger
The significant engineering failure that will be analyze is the Space Shuttle Challenger. In 1986, the
Challenger faced many launch delays. The first delay of the Challenger was due to the expected
weather front and presence of the Vice President (ENGINEERING.com). Since rain and cold
temperatures were expected to move into the area, they didn t want the Vice President to make
unnecessary trips. However, the launch window became perfect weather conditions since the weather
front stalled. The second delay was due to a defective microswitch in the hatch locking mechanism.
By the time the problem was fixed, the winds became too high and the weather front had started to
move again.
Due to these delays, the night before the launch, there was a teleconference between engineers and
management from Kennedy Space Center, Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, and Morton
Thiokol in Utah (ENGINEERING.com). This teleconference was to investigate whether the
challenger was safe to launch with the predicted temperatures of low 20s. Due to inconclusive data
and having no low temperature data below 53°F, the managers recommended the launch to continue
and not be delayed. Temperatures dropped to about 8°F the night before launch. On January 28, 1986,
the space shuttle challenger broke apart after seventy three seconds from launch (History.com). This
catastrophic event killed the entire crew in Challenger while traumatizing the nation and throwing the
NASA s shuttle program into turmoil.

Costco Inventory Management
Costco s inventory management strategy focuses on three main points: (a) point of sales system
(POS), (b) vendor managed inventory and (c) low volume of stock keeping units. Costco takes aid
from innovative inventory system that provides real time inventory information called Collaborative
Retail Exchange (CRX). The system monitors and re orders at the optimum inventory as part of the
continuous re order system. The CRX system analyses the sales for the previous weeks and inventory
level which acts as information to the suppliers. Costco Wholesale follows a Bulk buying strategy. It
aims at selling products in large volume and comparatively low prices. The company also follows

Walmart s approach means frequent, informal cooperation among stores, distribution centres and
suppliers and less centralized control. The company s supply chain allowed consumers to effectively
pull merchandise to stores rather than having the company push goods onto shelves by tracking
customer purchases and demand. Through the use of universal product codes, implementation of
Retail links at the store, use of RFIDs and smart tags, suppliers and manufacturers within the supply
chain synchronize their demand forecaste under a collaborative planning, forecasting and
replenishment scheme, and every link in the chain was connected through technology that includes a
central database, store level point of sale systems, and a satellite network. As per report, there was a
16% reduction in out of stocks with the use of RFIDs and pointed out that the products using an
electronic product code were replenished three times as fast as items that only used bar code
technology. These strategies have made Walmart to be the dominant force over other competitors with
information and technology helping its supply chain strategy attain greater

Analysis Of Lac Su s Memoir I Love Yous
When newcomers come to the United States, they are still on a journey of pain and suffering. Even if
they can get to the United States they still must go through the trail of owing nothing in a world where
everything is against their odds. This is the journey that author Lac Su wrote in his memoir I Love
Yous Are For White People which is about when he and his family immigrated to the United States
during the aftermath of the Vietnam War and their new life in LA county. His journey is not a unique
one as many refugees and immigrants experienced what he and his family experienced in their new
lives. In their new lives, many different events occurred that tells the problem all immigrants
encounter when adjusting to life in America. Using Lac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Professor Vo mentioned the idea that many immigrant families whose descendants grow up in the
United States as opposed to their home country tend to grow up differently. An example is the
multigenerational Japanese families living in the United States as growing up the first generation
made their entire families and future generations act very Americanized to assimilate into the
community. This idea is not forgotten in Su s memoir when he talks about wearing a suit at Bob Big
Boy s, I don t want to wear my suit. ... We are going to be eating with white people. If you don t look
nice they will look down upon you (Su 57). Here Su mentions about how he does not want to wear his
suit for something that seemed so trivial while his father insists he does so that they impress the white
people that they can act and look like them. It can then be assumed that early on in his childhood, his
family wanted to be like the white community so that they could better fit in when living in America.
However, this proves to become contradictory later in the memoir when Su tells his father that he
loves him. His father s response, Are you trying to imitate those white people by telling me those
fucking words? (Su 150). This proves to become quite a contradictory response to what he previously
told his son before of not being looked down by the white people, yet his very actions here is one that

Historically, creativity and innovation have been thought to been tied to new products that stimulate economic growth. Over time, these views were thought to have been narrowand new ideas of innovation came about. Karl Marx associated innovation to economic growth cycles. After World War II, much thought was given to innovation being a result of higher spending on research and design. Economists soon realized there was no direct correlation between innovation and R D. To put that in other terms, that is almost three pairs of shoes for every person on the planet. Geox is the producer of shoes that are marketed in the casual sports footwear industry. • 4. The Corruption Of Saddam Hussein Throughout history corruption has been laid upon many countries changing it in numerous ways. This corruption derives through certain people, creating a havoc for those having to follow orders set by leaders they blindly follow. In Iraq, citizens have been tortured, forced to relocate their families, arrested and murdered. All of this happened under the control of Saddam Hussein and we have neither found, nor did he offer an explanation to these actions. He has been notorious for attacking people who disagreed with his opinions, especially other politicians that would give any sort of competition to access leadership for Iraq. He is responsible for persecuting and denying his own citizens human rights. Not only physically but financially, spending all of the countries money on monuments and palaces as he watches his people die from malnutrition and lack of medical attention. Saddam Hussein was born on April 28, 1937 in a village called Ouja, near Tikrit in Northern Iraq, He grew up in a broken home, His family was poor, they were peasants who did not have a home. He grew up without a father, it is unknown if his father died or disappeared when he was younger. When he was still a child, he was sent to live with his uncle, Khairallah Tulfah, who made a deep impact on what Hussein later did in his life. There is proof that Saddam was connected to violence at an early age. There are several reports that link him to the murders of a school teacher and/or a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the time of his birth, his father was still a pagan, but his mother eventually converted him to Christianity (Chadwick 6). Aurelius was raised receiving a Christian education and from a very young age, he had a great respect for the religion. He learned to make the Sign of the Cross and certain ideas about the faith he kept very dear to his heart including: a Divine Providence, Christ the Lord Savior, and the belief that hell existed for those who did not live up to the Christian Faith s standards (Chadwick 11). Augustine did very well in school and his father decided to send him to Carthage to pursue a study in forensic studies (Farrell 5). The young man found a city living by pagan rules, where every desire of evil was encouraged. Augustine had a very competitive spirit, and in such a city the only goal was who could be the very worst. During this time he had a girlfriend whom he had a son with, and he lived with her for thirteen years. His son only lived for seventeen years, and then died (Chadwick 20). This period of his life was eventually looked on by himself with a great deal of regret and guilt which lead to some of his writings including his famous books Confessions. At this point he decided to turn his life around and saw rhetoric, reason, and philosophy as his new found passions. Augustine found solace ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. American Perspective On Hackers Analysis: The American Perspective On Hackers The issue of public information has always been a controversy in our world. One of our country s founding arguments was based on the necessity of free speech and free information. Many now believe that our government is being overly restrictive on information, blocking and controlling some aspects of free speech that first amendment advocates feel are necessary to maintain our American society. These advocates of free information have been using the nickname hackers for over twenty years, but improper use by the media has stretched the word to slanderous levels. The technically oriented part of society is made up of (at the very minimum) very advanced home users, capable of modifying parts of their computer and fixing most problems. Not all programmers or hardware specialists fall under this description, because many of them do not have or need a full understanding of a computer in order to complete their job. These technically oriented people have enough knowledge about computers so as to not automatically resort to fear. Most of them understand the vast difference between a cyber vandal and a true hacker. In fact, most of them have acted as either a cyber vandal, hacker, or both at some time in their past. They generally see that actual hackers are not intent on damaging things. Actual hackers are content with the free spread of information and thought. The people that technically inclined individuals avoid and sometimes fear are the delinquents and vandals who find it amusing to damage and ruin data. In an attempt to make people think they are anything more than attention starved brats with computers, these vandals prefer to be called hackers. The most amazing set of opinions comes from the ... With one concern having in mind about whether evolution happened or not, perhaps Genesis has a hidden message about this topic. In the beginning of chapter two of Genesis, it starts by God creating the first man and woman and placing them in the garden of Eden. God told Adam and Eve that they can eat from any tree and plant they want, but except the fruits from the tree of knowledge. At some time, a snake described as the most intelligent of all the wild animals appeared and told Eve that probably the reason why the Lord didn t allowed anyone to eat the fruits because they will see clearly and.. will be like God, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3). Eve, thinking the tree of knowledge will provide her wisdom, eats the fruit as well her husband Adam. As a result, humanity till now suffers the consequences of Adam and Eve as same with the snake, it was known as an intelligent animal to a cursed one. This allegory in Genesis warns humanity about too much knowledge . For example, the snake was known as the most intelligent creature, but yet it was the cause of the downfall of Adam and Eve. Eve disobeyed God and took a bite of the fruit from the tree of knowledge, because she wanted to be like God and obtain the understatement of life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though these roles are hard to understand, they can give meaning to our life. In John s Steinbeck Of Mice and Men, we see these men s day to day lives, the main character; George takes care of his friend Lennie who has difficulties understanding the rules of the world we live in. Through the story there are many ups and downs mostly involving Lennie, who is trying to see through the eyes of George and to do and be as George is. For this reason George is constantly trying to think of what is best for Lennie. Through all of this they face even more dangers and still try to find a way to raise money for a farm to ... Ever body wants a little piece of lan . I read plenty of books out here. Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land. In this passage , after Lennie shares with Crooks his plan to buy a farm with George and raise rabbits, Crooks tries to deflate Lennie s hopes which creates dangers that may lie beyond our understanding. He relates that hundreds of men have passed through the ranch, all of them with dreams like Lennie s. Not one of them, he emphasizes with bitterness, ever succeeds to make that dream come true. Crooks shows a sense of reality, telling again of Lennie s childlikeness , and that the dream of a farm is, after all, only a dream. This moment show s off Crook s character, and how a lifetime of loneliness and cruelty can lead to bitterness. It also furthers Steinbeck s disturbing thought s that those who have strength and power in the world are not the only ones responsible for cruelty. As Crooks shows, even though he was hurt by others, he seeked out Lennie and attacked him because he is even weaker than Crooks is. Sometimes in life we have difficulty in decisions that makes us question our morals even deeper our character. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Tracking Is An Assault On Liberty By Nicholas Carr In the essay, Tracking Is an Assault on Liberty by Nicholas Carr, he argues the importance of privacy when one is surfing the web. Carr writes how companies personalize ads they provide on the internet based on our personal information. We are not aware of the consequences and the information we disclose about ourselves on the internet. Everything we do on the internet is recorded and stored. Nicholas Carr uses ethos and counter argument/refutation to express to his audience that their privacy is being violated. Carr utilizes ethical appeals to identify to his readers that he/she has a right to their own privacy and how companies and organizations are violating it. He strengthens his ethical appeal and argument by collecting ample evidence from professionals in the field. Carr writes, ...the computer consultant Tom Owad... wrote a simple piece of software that allowed him to download public wish lists that Amazon.com customers post to catalog products that they plan to purchase...Mr. Owad ended up with maps of the United States showing the locations of people interested in particular books and ideas... (Carr 437). Carr uses an expert to enhance his argument and provide a credible source. The greater a person s authority, the more likely an audience is inclined to listen and be persuaded. By putting an expert s research on his essay, Carr s audience will be convinced which will lead them to trust him more. Another example where Carr uses an expert s opinion is when he notes, As the computer security expert Bruce Schneier has observed, privacy is not just a screen we hide behind when we do something naughty or embarrassing; privacy is intrinsic to the concept of liberty. When we feel that we re always being watched, we begin to lose our sense of self reliance and free will and, along with it, our individuality (Carr 439). Carr uses Scheiner s, a computer security expert, to tell his readers how one feels when they feel like they lost their privacy. Car uses reasoned argument by stating series of statements that use evidence and reasoning to support his claim. Carr also uses counterargument/refutations to influence the readers that our personal datas may fall in the wrong hands. He writes, You have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Three Major Theories Of Social Change In Society Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed (Cesar Chavez). Social change, is exactly that, an alteration in the social order of a society. The three major theories of social change include: evolutionary theory, functionalist theory and conflict theory. Evolutionary theory is society viewed as moving in a definite direction, simple to complex social structures. Functionalist theory is a societal system of interconnected parts that work together in harmony to maintain a state of balance. The conflict theory claims society is in state of continuous conflict due to competition for limited resources. In this contingent powerful groups can maintain the status quo. Society has changed over the years. One social change in society would be social media. Being able to share opinions so freely has become a hot topic in today s news. For example, social media not only allows gateways to others confidential information but it also serves as a way for terrorist to send threats that can be seen by the public. With social media, comes technology which creates new possibilities. Computer technology; shrinks the world by decreasing time and distance between sources of information. It improves medical care with quick diagnostic and treatment information through video consultation, and increases educational learning options and workplace options. The negative effects of technology consist of amplified surveillance of people and condensed privacy. Another change in society over the years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The introduction of the euro will have important implications not only for the Union and its Member States but also for their partners. But while it will be a major event for international monetary relations and the international monetary system, there will be no abrupt change; nor is it likely to be destabilizing. In order to prepare for the euro, and once it is in place, Member States need to follow sound economic policies based on low inflation, healthy public finances and stable monetary conditions. These rules of good economic management are the recipe for low interest rates, strong investment growth, and therefore high growth and job creation. Firms across the world and not just in Europe will benefit from these improved growth prospects. The strength of Europe as a trade partner will open new prospects for exporters in the rest of the world. Foreign companies especially will benefit, because there will be only one market to penetrate rather than 15. Conrad did not give up like Karen did because he got the social support he needed to cope with his grief. The decision Conrad made of continuing to see Dr. Berger was a very smart step because a lot of people like Karen give up, but he kept trying. This helped him avoid extreme measures and was a sign that he was starting to find his identity. Equally important, when Conrad went to Dr. Berger for support after Karen s death he said this to Dr. Berger after they talked about it, I don t know what I would have done if I couldn t have gotten you this morning. I feel so shaky (Guest 227). This proved that Dr. Berger did hold Conrad back from not hurting himself, and helped him control his feelings. In short, Dr. Berger helped Conrad avoid suicide, which then gave Conrad the chance to realize he was a stronger person than he thought he was. With this, he found his confident identity at the end of the book, which he would not have gotten without Dr. Berger. Berger also helped reduce Conrad s feelings of remorse. The songs he co wrote and performed with his backing band the Crickets remain as fresh and potent today as when recorded on primitive equipment in New Mexico half a century ago: That ll Be The Day, Peggy Sue, Oh Boy, Not Fade Away. His influence on the development of pop music was incalculable, particularly in the UK. Peculiarly, Holly and his bandmates, Richie Valens and Big Bopper , were underrated in America and were questioned whether they were the greatest loss to music. As Terry Grimley exclaimed, ... Booth carried papers with him at all times that identified him as the assassin of Lincoln, although they were very risky and could cause his demise. One day, during his escape in the wagon, Booth was informed that the soldiers were approaching. As he fled the wagon, he dropped his papers. When he was back in safety, John Wilkes Booth sent a messenger to go and retrieve the lost papers. While the messenger was searching for the papers, another person informed Booth that soldiers were once again approaching. Booth had to retreat from his hideout once more and therefore could not wait for the messenger to return with his papers. While Booth was somewhere else, the messenger himself was cornered and killed by the cavalry in the tobacco barn, since the papers seemed to legitimately identify their holder as the infamous John Wilkes Booth. • 25. Glorification Of Nature In Rime Of The Ancient Mariner The power and glorification of nature and how it can be a spiritual source of renewal for individuals is highlighted through the works of artists of the Romantic period. Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Coleridge and Blueback by Tim Winton both display the influences that nature can have on an individual, spiritually and emotionally, and presents a clearer understanding of the natural world. The poem by Samuel Coleridge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner depicts a strong belief and interest in nature and how the natural world can be a place where God can be found. The contrast between the language of the quotes slimy things and O happy living things demonstrates this change in perspective as the narrator realises the beauty of nature. During his punishment, the Mariner was able to see the real beauty of nature and as a result, he had the ability to rejoice and pray about what he was seeing. By recognising the elegance in the environment that surrounded him, it enabled the Mariner to be free from his imprisonment. Like the belief in God, the Mariner first feared but finally loved the natural elements of the world. Throughout the journey, the wonder and beauty of nature and how it can be a spiritual finding is brought into focus. • 31. Tim Kreider The Busy Trap Analysis Present day American society is fast paced and constantly moving forward. With so many things to do in such little time, busyness and stress seem to take over our lives. In The Busy Trap, Tim Kreider s position as to why the audience should strive to avoid busyness is very well thought out, however, some of the points in the essay have faulty reasoning. This essay presents the argument that instead of keeping a busy life, we should live a carefree and relaxed life instead. The busyness that overtakes our lives often comes subconsciously, which we submit to, without even realizing it ourselves. This supports Kreider s claims that busyness is a trap . He also points out that once it has begun to overtake our lives, we begin to accept it and are led to believe that there is no way to avoid it. Once we start to believe that busyness is an unavoidable part of life, then we fall into the busy trap. The author also encourages the audience to avoid a busy lifestyle giving several reasons why a relaxed lifestyle is more ideal. The author also challenges the audience to avoid busyness and to strive towards a less stressful lifestyle. According to the author, people are ...busy because of their own ambition, drive, or anxiety, because they are addicted to busyness and dread what they might have to face in its absence (Kreider 982). Kreider has taken a position that rejects anyone with a busy life. This generalization gives his readers a negative misconception that people with busy lives are responsible for their own daily stress. This is an example of Ad Hominem. Ad Hominem is used when personal attacks on those who support a position are used, as opposed to creating counterarguments based on principle (Lunsford 400). By accusing busy people of being addicted to busyness (Kreider 985), he targets busy people individually through his claim that they are to blame for any stress and anxiety that may be caused by overwhelming busyness. The author also insinuates that modern day society supports busyness and most Americans have inserted themselves into this pattern, if only by our own acquiescence (Kreider 983). The author argues that busyness is something we collectively force one another to do (Kreider ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Berggren and Rae (2006) describe Carter as an Evangelical style president with a strong devotion to his corresponding Evangelical Faith. He is referred to being the born again president. Carter had a born again experience during his pre presidential life which supports he was evangelist during this part of his life. In this experience, he questioned his faith after a failed attempt to become governor. It wasn t until his sister, a devout evangelist, spoke to and convinced him that he had not fully dedicated himself to God, that he had a born again realization and devoted himself to Christ. Carter s Evangelical Faith is further supported by him referencing himself as born again and saying, I believe God wants me to be the best politician I can be (Lindsay, 2007). Lindsay s article also reasons that at the beginning of his presidency Carter had a high rate of evangelical approval because these people could easily connect with like minded president. • 40. The English Language During The Civil Rights Movement In our society, the English language has evolved over time and certain words have grown to have different meanings. Overtime the language shifts. A word would have the same letters for 50 years but different definitions throughout the time period also known as the semantic change. One such word is the word wasp . Most commonly referring to the pest that flies around in our backyards that sting us and leaves us with quite the mark. But this was not the case after the American Civil War up in the 1860 s until the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960 s. The meaning wasp at the time referred to a White Anglo Saxon Protestant that was also most commonly used for the members of the hate group known as the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). A WASP is known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The words do not change in their initiative meanings but change in a means that they attain other meanings or are used to refer to other named objects over time. For example, the word mouse is used to refer to tiny long tailed animal however, it is now also used to refer to a device used to rheostat cursor movement. The alteration of meaning occurs because words are constantly used and what is intended by speakers is not exactly the same each time. If a different intention for a word is shared by the speech community and becomes established in usage, then a semantic change has occurred. (Malkiel, Yakov). Overtime, the KKK member population has declined due to alternating historical events. Along with the group, the word WASP has changed also. In the modern time, WASP is used to simply describe upper class white people. The problem with this is that the same word that was used in the late 1800s to describe an extremely racist, violent, and unethical group is also now used to describe a general group of people who are in no way affiliated with former Another problem is that the term does not seem to be incorrect use. Unlike the term ASP being used today, an Angelo Saxon protestant is from lower middle class England, particularly East Anglia, in the early 1600s. Some, like the Puritans, came to North America because they opposed the Church of England. (Abagond). . The term WASP does represent Angelo Saxon, which were people who inhibited Great Britain from the 5th century (Encyclopedia Britannica), but it used incorrectly to describe a specific group with a negative ... Probable cause is legally defined as Apparent facts discovered through logical inquiry that would lead a reasonably intelligent and prudent person to believe that an accused person has committed a crime, thereby warranting his or her prosecution, or that a Cause of Action has accrued, justifying a civil lawsuit or the search of the person or premises by the free dictionary (Probable Cause). As technology has advanced over the years schools have gotten electronic gadgets and techniques to keep students out of trouble. Though schools take many steps to protect students, pupils still report that drugs are made accessible to them on school property, schools combine document that nearly 2 million crimes were reported to them, and many students still feel unsafe (violence in U.S. public schools). These reports show that millions of dollars provided by taxes go towards school security and it has done less than intended. I have chosen cyanides to be a potential weapon used, simply because it is a more discrete way to harm mass casualties. According to the CIA, typical plots focus on poisoning foods or spreading the agent on surfaces to poison via skin contact (CIA 2007). This weapons characteristics is usually described as a salt like material that range from a white to yellow colored salt. These two specific cyanides are usually used to poison food or drinks, but can be used with alternative methods. Cyanide salts can be used to penetrate the skin and infect the body that way, or used as a contact poison. Other examples of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to all of the natural and man made items cyanide is found in, it would seem too easy to gather a large quantity. Murphy, however makes the sweeping assumption that discursive framing can be applied to similar conflicts, but this is not always the case. For the purpose of this literature review, discursive framing will only be applied to the concept of climate denialism that runs rampant in the Calgary Herald. In view of this, I hypothesize that the Herald will use tactics in order to increase readership and prevent readers from having to wrestle with new concepts on the subject of climate change. Boykoff and Smith would be critical of the Calgary Herald and criticize it for presenting climate change as an evenly balanced debate between apparently expert groups who were believers or deniers (Boykoff and Smith, 2010, p. 5) I intend on speaking at length in my MRP about the ramifications that arise when equal weight is given to scientific facts that are by facts and alternative facts that are generated by emotion. Will Potter in Green Is the New Red: An Insider s Account of a Social Movement Under Siege (2011, p.133) strengthens Boykoff and Smith s arguments by declaring that balancing false impressions has taken precedence over critical, investigative reporting that speaks truth to power (Potter 2011, p.133). A similar approach is taken in Erik Kojola s writing s on the political economy of the news industry that are informed by Potter s claims. Kojola looks at how truth is being compromised by corporate consolidation, profit demands, and political biases that are shaped by the ideological position of newspaper owners and editors (2015, p.7). • 45. The Nazi Party s Inner Circle Essay How can ordinary people come to commit atrocities against defenceless victims? Hitler was an evil man, or at least was prepared to employ evil actions to achieve his goals. There is very little in literature to suggest anything contrary to this opinion. Most literature suggests that while Hitler had some level of power over Himmler and the rest of the Nazi Party s inner circle, they were also well aware of the extent and implications of their actions. Despite this, the atrocities of the Holocaust were not carried out by these evil leaders, but instead were the actions of thousands of ordinary people across Europe. In discussing how these people can be motivated to commit atrocities, I will focus on Christopher Browning s analysis of Holocaust police battalions, along with contradictory evidence. I will also compare the motivations of Hutu civilians in the mid 1990s, and how their experience supports and undermines Browning s theory. Browning is seen as a pioneer of Holocaust Studies, and his literature has drawn great respect and acceptance from the academic world (USHRI 1996). As such, I will take Browning s theory as my hypothetical explanation of how ordinary people come to commit atrocities against defenceless victims. Browning believes that indoctrination , along with the pressing circumstances of a dehumanising war , pushed ordinary men to commit atrocities of which they normally they would have considered themselves incapable (Browning 1992). There are sufficient sales of vacant lots within 3 miles of the subject property. Seven suitable vacant lot sales were selected and analyzed to estimate indicated subject s lot value (table_ 1). The analysis uses a per sq. ft. unit in valuing the site. The vacant lots were sold March to October of 2013. Lots attribute such as lot size, lot shape, topography, Resource Protected Area (RPA), zoning which is density of development allowed per acre of land, and traffic patterns were analyzed. The report used the Fairfax County digital maps of property, resource protected area, and topography maps. In addition, aerial photography data was used to determine the level of traffic in areas surrounding each lot. The comparable lot sales are similar to the subject in term of land features such as lot shape, land use, topography, and traffic patterns. The main differences in the comparable lots are observed in terms of lot size, RPA, and zoning (density of development allowed per acre of land). This report originally selected twenty one vacant or lots with old buildings which were subsequently razed and replaced with newer and larger contemporary homes. In order to conduct a meaningful analysis, the report calculated per sq. ft. median sales price of $7.20 based on the original twenty one vacant lot sales (appendix _A). • 47. Adam Smith s View Of Capitalism Q3. Adam Smith was a professor at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Adam Smith defended the ideas of a free economy or a free market. He wrote about his ideas in his book The Wealth of Nations. In his book, he addressed three main claims that he believed backed up his thesis of capitalism. Capitalism is an economic system in which the production is privately owned and money is invested for the purpose of a profit. Adam Smith s main belief was that the government should have no control within a business. Adam Smith was the founder of the capitalism theory. He strongly believed that the government should not interfere with the businesses. To back up his claims about the government, he wrote his own book setting forth his own ideas on the topic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adam Smith would argue that competition would force people to make better products. Honestly, I would agree with his claim on competition. I agree because, when you are faced with competition, you want to make yourself better than the other person. For example, if you had your on business and someone else decided to start up a business similar to yours, competition would begin quickly. The other new business would come as a threat, you would need to ensure that your current consumers stayed with your business. If you began to lose consumers to your competitor, your business would not last very long. With Adam Smith s law of competition, it would quite literally force business owners to make better products. Consumers were looking for the best product with the cheapest price. For example, your business sold a phenomenal product; however, your latest rival also sold the same satisfying product for a cheaper price. The consumer would learn more towards the business that sold the product for the lower price. In the end, as a business owner, you would want to sell the best quality of your product at the lowest price possible. • 48. The Space Shuttle Challenger The significant engineering failure that will be analyze is the Space Shuttle Challenger. In 1986, the Challenger faced many launch delays. The first delay of the Challenger was due to the expected weather front and presence of the Vice President (ENGINEERING.com). Since rain and cold temperatures were expected to move into the area, they didn t want the Vice President to make unnecessary trips. However, the launch window became perfect weather conditions since the weather front stalled. The second delay was due to a defective microswitch in the hatch locking mechanism. By the time the problem was fixed, the winds became too high and the weather front had started to move again. Due to these delays, the night before the launch, there was a teleconference between engineers and management from Kennedy Space Center, Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, and Morton Thiokol in Utah (ENGINEERING.com). This teleconference was to investigate whether the challenger was safe to launch with the predicted temperatures of low 20s. Due to inconclusive data and having no low temperature data below 53°F, the managers recommended the launch to continue and not be delayed. Temperatures dropped to about 8°F the night before launch. On January 28, 1986, the space shuttle challenger broke apart after seventy three seconds from launch (History.com). Professor Vo mentioned the idea that many immigrant families whose descendants grow up in the United States as opposed to their home country tend to grow up differently. An example is the multigenerational Japanese families living in the United States as growing up the first generation made their entire families and future generations act very Americanized to assimilate into the community. This idea is not forgotten in Su s memoir when he talks about wearing a suit at Bob Big Boy s, I don t want to wear my suit. ... We are going to be eating with white people. If you don t look nice they will look down upon you (Su 57). Here Su mentions about how he does not want to wear his suit for something that seemed so trivial while his father insists he does so that they impress the white people that they can act and look like them. It can then be assumed that early on in his childhood, his family wanted to be like the white community so that they could better fit in when living in America. However, this proves to become contradictory later in the memoir when Su tells his father that he loves him. His father s response, Are you trying to imitate those white people by telling me those fucking words? (Su 150).
