The Effect Of Neighborhood Environment On Birth Outcomes
This article sought to assess the effect of neighborhood environment on birthweight and the potential
mediation by psychosocial, behavioral, and biological factors. Authors provided the reasoning for their
study by indicating that the effect of neighborhood on birth outcomes has been well documented in the
literature, still the mechanism by which neighborhood context affects these outcomes was not clear.
Their review of the literature was very comprehensive in that it covered many aspects related to the
complex relationships between neighborhood context and birth outcomes. However, they only briefly
commented on the potential protective effect of racial segregation on birth outcomes; a possibility that
has been documented in the literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Authors did a good job adjusting for individual socioeconomic variables, although there is still the
challenge that some of these variables (e.g., income and education) could be mediators and not
confounders. They used validated tools to measure stress, though, it measures daily life stressors that
are less likely to be influenced by neighborhood context. Ascertainment of exposure to drugs was well
done, while smoking and alcohol consumption were self reported during the postpartum interview and
thus prone to recall bias.
As in many similar multi level analyses, this study suffered from the crude measures of neighborhood
exposures by using census tracts indicators (4). Neighborhood characteristics were retrieved from the
1990 U.S. Census. Thus, they may inaccurately represent neighborhood context during the relevant
time period (1995 1996), as it is possible that these characteristics may have changed over time. One
methodological barrier in neighborhood studies is the correlation between neighborhood variables (5).
To overcome this barrier, they summarized the four indicators (% black, % poverty, violent crime rate,
and % boarded up housing) into one index variable. While this approach is methodologically correct,
it became difficult to understand which aspects of neighborhood context affected the outcome, which
limited the relevance of study findings to real life

The Thematic Concept Of Fear In Beowulf And Gilgamesh
Overall Introduction:
For years, literature has been used to teach us important morals and life lessons. These life lessons are
often universal in nature. This means that no matter what age, gender, or status a person is, anyone can
relate to the theme being discussed. For this reason they are called universal themes. Non universal
themes are themes that are specific to the story being told, but are not considered universally
understood. The following demonstrates that Beowulf and Gilgamesh both have the same universal
thematic statement concept of fear in addition to a multiple non universal themes throughout them.
Thematic Discussion When looking at the universal theme Gilgamesh and Beowulf, the thematic
concept is fear. The thematic statement for this universal theme would be: In literature, as well as in
real life, man often my come up against someone or something he fears and then must decide whether
or not they will act in cowardly or courageous way . The thematic concept for Beowulf that is a non
universal theme would be political generosity. The thematic statement would be that: In Beowulf, one
can see how generosity and hospitality were considered very important to the Danish culture.
However, this not considered a universal theme, because although generosity and hospitality may have
been considered very important attributes at the time Beowulf was written, not every culture of the
time considered these nicetes to be of the highest importance. The thematic

The Geneva Conventions And Utilitarianism
The Geneva Conventions embody strongly felt humanitarian ideals which is the main source of their
legitimacy. These treaties allow the international community to work together and agree on certain
standards of war and human rights. The Geneva Conventions are an important aspect to the field of
international relations. These treaties embody the commonly felt humanitarian ideals of the majority
of the world, which proves that the international community can work together and agree on human
rights. This element of teamwork across the international community contributes to the idealist view
of international relations. The idealist view claims that ideas and traditions are what brings countries
together, ends war, and facilitates globalization; typically laws and traditions vary per state, but
sometimes they can transcend borders.
Similarly, this teamwork emphasizes community values and traditions. While ... Show more content

This is called the state of exception and its biggest flaw is that it is so often abused. It is abused
because situations in which it is used are all different and the state can argue that it should remain in
the state of exception for longer than others might deem necessary. (Scheppele, Journal of
Constitutional Law). The state of exception is an example of the decline in respect for international
law because it gives a temporarily vulnerable state the ability to evade otherwise accepted
international norms without a deadline for taking things back to the way they were (Scheppele,
Journal of Constitutional Law). This decline in respect for international law is caused by the rise of
non state actors, like multinational corporations and terrorist organizations since the end of the Cold
War and following

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Short Story
The story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is integral to the overall narrative of the
Israelites descent into Egypt. It also tells us that anyone can make his or her dreams come true. His
progression from dream interpreting shepherd to minister of Egypt is one of the most elaborate stories
in the Bible, the Book of Genesis. Joseph was born in a family of 12 boys and Joseph was his father s
favorite. Jacob wanted to show everyone how much he loved Joseph and decided to give him coat of
many colors. The coat of colors was a prestige gift in Canaan, because it was very expensive back
then. Joseph had a dream of 11 sheaves of corn that turned and bowed down to a golden sheaf of corn
another dream that was about the sun, moon, and sky with eleven stars bowing down before a bright
golden star. He knew that someday he was meant for more things to come that are powerful in his life.
This was God s way to show him that he will be great someday and be a ruler. With the combination
of knowing Joseph is Jacob s favorite son and Joseph s dreams of being one that he may be a ruler of
some kind, the 11 brothers become very jealous. One day, they decided that they wanted to kill him,
but before they get the chance, they came across a couple of Ishmaelite s on their way to Egypt. They
decided to sell Joseph as a slave. As Joseph is taken to Egypt, his brothers return home, told their
father that Joseph is dead; they brought back his coat stained with goat blood

It s Time to Legalize Slots in the State of Maryland Essay
The issue of legalizing slots and/or legalized gambling in the State of Maryland is a complex one, and
one of great consequence to both the State s residents, and the future of the State itself. Maryland
Governor Robert Ehrlich s slots bill proposes that the State place a total of 15,500 slot machines or
video poker machines in six different locations, three of which would be chosen from a pool of four
Maryland racetracks. The racetracks that would be eligible to install slots or video poker machines are
Laurel Park racecourse in Laurel, Rosecroft Raceway in Prince George s county, a track that would be
built at a later date in Allegheny county, and the Preakness Stakes host Pimlico in Baltimore; In effect

Naturally, tourists that are vacationing in or around a gambling community typically have a larger than
average amount of cash on hand with them, which in turn makes them profitable robbery victims. If an
out of town guest at the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut were to be robbed at gunpoint outside of the
resort, would that crime be attributed to the fact that Connecticut had legalizing gambling, or the
tourism that said legalization resulted in?
Conversely, if an individual has squandered their vacation or gambling budget in the casino, are they
now viewed as potential criminal offenders? Again, it is nearly impossible to conclude whether or not
these types of robberies are due to the casino that is attracting the tourism, or the fact that the
community itself has now become a tourist attraction?
A study conducted by the University of Nevada Reno states that when comparing the before and after
crime rates utilizing the population at risk, the data reveals few consistent trends in crime . In short, it
cannot be proven that by merely constructing a casino or venue where any type of gambling is legal
that it would create these spikes in the crime rate that those who are opposed to legalized gambling
insist would occur as a result, and to believe anything otherwise would be a hasty generalization.
Another benefit of legalizing slots in the State of Maryland would be the restoration of the State s
horse industry. Our tradition of horse racing in Maryland

A Good Man Is Hard To Find The Necklace In today s society we tend to see people live above their
means. The reason why I may be picked or even chose. In the short story by author Guy De
Maupassant, The Necklace and the story Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor is because
both stories have many similarities that we can say that they are combined but different tragedies. The
ladies show that they see themselves as important in these stories. These ladies are more concerned
about their appearance and impressions on other people. These ladies refuse to admit that they are
wrong in their decisions. These ladies also suffer from pride in both stories. First, Good Man Is Hard

believes herself to be better than others. The grandmother wants everyone to realize she s a lady at all

better than her grandchildren in also better than everyone else. In the beginning of the story, it shows
that the grandmother dresses in her Sunday clothes for a family road trip, In case of an accident. She

The Olympics Should Be Held At Boston
Are the Olympics beneficial to Cities? The Olympics show people that the greatest sporting event in
the world is so much more than just a game. The Olympics give people an opportunity to meet others
from different countries despite their cultural, political, and religious differences. Also the Olympics
give people the sense of unity and hope. Therefore, by hosting an event like the Olympics, Boston has
taken the right decision due to the multiple benefits will occur to the city, the Olympics will contribute
to the prosperity of the economy, bring a lot tourist, and shows the beauty of Boston to the world.
Therefore, the Olympics should be held in Boston. Some people believe that hosting the Olympics in
Boston is a huge responsibility for the city because of many things. For example, it s a huge risk
because the country will invest a lot of money . So for some people the Olympics is, economically, not
worthwhile in the slightest, and the games are ridiculous expensive due to money that the government
will spend for the construction such as ; building stadiums, the construction of the infrastructure of the
country to cater the needs of the athletes or sportspeople. Also a lot of people think that Olympics will
affect the population of the Boston for about a month or two because if lots of people go, the city will
be very crowded which creates lots of traffic and disrupts the daily life of the citizens. Besides that,
some other people see that

Examples Of Queer Theory In The Great Gatsby

Literally Analysis Paper

ENGL100A_FA_2017
Queer theory is a post structuralist theory that emerged in the early 1990s from the fields of queer and
women s studies. The theory builds on both feminist challenges to the idea that gender is part of the
essential self and upon gay and lesbian studies close examination of the socially constructed nature of
sexual activity and identities. This theory focuses on the mismatches between sex, gender, and desire.
Queerness has been prominently identified as bisexual, lesbian, and gay people, although it also
includes different categories such as cross dressing, intersex bodies and identities, gender ambiguity
and gender corrective surgery. The queer theory is an attempt to expose the different lifestyles that
people may be unaware of and to give them several categories in the LGBTQ community to look at;
correlates sexes, genders, and sexualities out of specifically lesbian and gay. One of these examples of
queer analysis is in F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby.
The narrative progression in the novel is stationed around Jay Gatsby s deep love for Daisy Fay
Buchanan and the three overlapping heterosexual love triangles: Gatsby Daisy Tom, Tom Myrtle
George, Myrtle Tom Daisy. This heterosexual plot is indeed shadowed by a homoerotic subtext but
with all the twists and turns of the novel.
I argue that the novel s sexual wrongdoing and the creation of lesbian and gay subtext work in

What Is The Synopsis Of Ang Tunay Na Ina
FILM ANALYSIS
Ang Tunay na Ina is a Filipino melodrama, directed and written by Octavio Silos. The major casts of
the film are Rosario Moreno as Magdalena, Rudy Concepcion as Roberto, Tita Duran as Tita, Quiel
Segovia as Antonio, Dona Luisa as Nati Rubi, Don Alberto as Precioso Palma, Naty Bernardo as Aling
Andang. This is one of the few films that survived from World War II. This is also one of the films that
they were able to restore.
The film focuses on how Magdalena is longing for her lost daughter. Her daughter is the only reason
why she felt incomplete and unhappy that is why she tried to find her. I believe, that is what how a real
mother will feel. As she finds her daughter, the film emphasized how she proved that she is the real
mother of Tita, not only by blood but also by heart. And as the title says, Ang Tunay na Ina, it does not
only define a real mother on its own by her responsibilities and actions but also by the way she feels
towards her children. Don Alberto and Dona Luisa was talking about what to do with the baby of
Magdalena as she was said to have a child without being married during was the introduction of the
film. It started this way to show that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Safety on College Campuses Essay examples
Safety is a tremendous issue on college campuses, and additional procedures need to be taken to
prevent crimes from happening. When walking onto a college campus as a young adult, people get a
rush of the unknown. The unknown could be going to college parties and late night study groups.
College should be like any high school or elementary school and have better security measures to
protect their students. The reasons we need these extra steps are to prevent violence, give students a
sense of security, and monitor visitors on campus.
First of all, violence can be prevented on campuses among the students once safety issues are put in
place. There are several ways to prevent the violence including security cameras and metal detectors.

In another incident at Western Kentucky University, a young woman was raped, stabbed, and burned
to death in her dorm. Everyone that entered the building was supposed to sign in and show
identification in this case the one involved walked in without being questioned, he proceeded to her
room where she was brutally murdered. When visitors are seen by security and made to sign in and
show identification, it would help monitor the visitors in each building. Therefore, guards stationed
outside of dorms at night would prevent unauthorized visitors in the building and the guards could
personally identify who enters and leaves each building. Thirdly, visitors on a campus is not a bad
thing, but they must be monitored for student safety. There have been other crimes on campuses like
purse snatching in the middle of the day, car break ins, and shoplifting at the school stores. In addition,
the most up to date statistics show there were more than 35,000 reported crimes on U.S. college
campuses in just one year. Furthermore, if a crime occurs the person involved can be identified easier
by checking the log book and talking to security. Having more than one safety measure in place allows
further evidence if something was to happen. The experience that occurs at college must reflect to
younger generations that college is not a scary place, and that it is a safe and secure place as if they

How To Go Back To The Dominican Republic
Dominican Republic Reflection I thought going back to the Dominican Republic for a second year
would feel like being the parents on Christmas morning: you get to watch everyone else s reaction to
the stuff you ve already seen, and you just get to sit back and help throw away the wrapping paper. I
thought I had, in a way, already had my transformative moment; I was there to see my Dominican
friends again, to help my HGP friends experience the trip, and to do some good for the people of the
Dominican Republic. Most of the week felt that way. I was still bonding and having fun with the kids,
but it definitely felt like I was there to help more than to experience. I felt more emotionally protected,

It s not something that can be quantified; I can t show you pictures of all the houses we built, or of the
rainwater ditch we dug. I don t even think saying that the trip was life changing does it justice,
because the whole concept of life changing is pretty cliché. After all, how could just two weeks in a
country really change your life? Again, you kind of have to be there. So what makes this trip so
unique? What s the takeaway? What did I really learn? Well for one, I can say that I have so much
interest in and respect for Hispanic and especially Dominican culture. Hospitality, acceptance,
kindness, and a welcoming smile are things that are certainly lacking in the states. It may seem
insignificant, but there s something special about walking past a stranger, and not having to put your
head down, make a stern face, and continue in a straight line. But I think the bigger lesson to learn,
though, involves poverty and inequality of opportunity. Two years ago, I could have pulled up tons of
statistics about poverty, and how poor the majority of the world is. The conditions that some people
live under are really just cruel, but it s not the hut made from the leaves that s the cruel thing; it s our
big houses, luxury cars, and designer clothes. Father Don said, Poverty isn t when someone has no
shoes and has to look to a superior to ask for shoes; poverty is when they ask, and the superiors don t
give them anything. This really stuck with me. Poverty isn t

Biography Of Babe Ruth
George Herman Ruth Jr. also known as Babe Ruth was born on February 6, 1895 in Baltimore,
Maryland. When Babe Ruth was little his parents worked long hours so his parents were not able to
control him. He was getting into trouble a lot around town and skipping school. When he was 7 years
old he was sent to a school for boys. This is where he learned to play baseball at. He was drafted by
the Baltimore Orioles. He was traded to the Boston Red Sox. He was a pitcher in Boston and he won a
world series there as the number one pitcher. Then he was traded to the New York Yankees. He
became the best home run hitter in the history of Major League baseball until Hank Aaron broke the
record in the 70 s. Babe Ruth was always good with the kids and loved interacting with the fans. Babe
Ruth used his pitching arm, hitting ability, and good person to became the first superstar in america.
Babe Ruth s pitching ability was one of a kind. Babe Ruth could have been a Hall of Fame pitcher

Tutankhamun is one of the most famous and instantly recognisable Pharaohs of the modern world
even though he lived and reigned over 3,000 years ago. The boy King was born in the 11th year of his

for 8 years. Until archaeologist Howard Carter discovered his almost fully intact tomb in the Valley of

minor ruler, whose reign was of little consequence. However after this discovery and subsequent
discoveries due to excavations, analysis of his mummy and other historical evidence, opinions

Amenhotep IV commenced his reign in 1353 BCE and was of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt. When
Amenhotep IV came to power, the priests of Amun had been gradually growing in power and were
almost equal with the royal house in terms of wealth and influence. During the 5th year of his reign he
outlawed the ancient religion which was centered on the worship and offerings to many Gods in
particular those of the composite deity Ra Amun Horus (Ra daytime sun, Amun underworld sun,
Horus the sunrise). He then changed his name to Akhenaten, proclaiming himself to be the living
incarnation of the all powerful, single deity known as Aten (The visible sun). Traditionally, as
described in the Coffin Texts of the Middle kingdom, the Aten was the name for the sun disk and in
the Story of Sinuhe , Amenemhat I is described to have soared into the sky, uniting with the Aten, his
creator. The early stages of Atenism was as a henotheistic religion (devotion to a single god but
recognising the existence of others), but quickly developed into a monotheistic system where the
worship of all other Gods was banned, including the making and worship of idols, allowing only the
rayed sun disk to be displayed as a representation of God , for the Aten was the sole deity. Ordinary
people could not worship the Aten

Review of Rabbit Proof Fence by Phillip Noyce Essay
Review of Rabbit Proof Fence by Phillip Noyce Introduction In the Rabbit Proof Fence , Phillip
Noyce, the writer, takes into account the conflicting opinions over the stolen generation policy . This
was an Australian policy which involved taking half caste aboriginals away from their families and
homes, to be brought up in a white society. The policy was in operation between the 1930s and the
1960s. One of the main justifications for the policy, was to educate the half caste children so that they
could fit into society. One of the main arguments against the policy was that it encouraged a sense of

The Europeans thought that the half caste children would have a better health if they were brought up
in a European lifestyle, using their diet, doctors etc. Other Information Before going on to outline
some of the arguments against the policy, I would like to clarify one or two points of information
which might be of interest. The half caste people were half aboriginal and half European. These were
the people which the policy affected the most. At the time, Australia had another policy called the
white Australia policy. This stated that any person who was not of a European race was not allowed to
live in Australia. This policy was in action until the 1960s. Aboriginals were not treated as citizens of
Australia. Although they abided by the countries rules, they were not allowed to take an active part in
society by doing things like voting in elections. Arguments Against the Policy I am now going to state
some of the arguments against the stolen generation policy . Taking children away from their parents
is a very immoral thing to do. It harms the emotional health of both the parents and the children.
Instead of easing racial tension the stolen generation policy created more racial tension than there was
before. This was because people were angry, strongly resented each

Essay on Sexual Harassment
In today s society we constantly hear or read about individuals that claim they were a victim of sexual
pressure. These instances can take place at work, school, the military and even at church. But exactly
what is sexual exploitation or unwanted sexual behavior? After looking at several definitions for
sexual abuse I came across the following definition that I feel will help all of us to better understand
what inappropriate sexual behavior is. Sexual harassment was defined by The Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission (EEOC) as unwelcome advances and requests for sexual behavior or
conditional requests such as a person s employment will continue if they perform these acts. (Gale
Group, 2003). This definition left me thinking and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Please also keep in mind that a harasser can be male or female and can be of the same sex as the
victim. The harasser may not always know that they are being offensive but if the other person is
uncomfortable and has stated this to them then he or she should stop before legal action is brought
forth.
Some women may even prefer not to report any allegations of being pressured sexually for fear of
what might happen to them if they do. Although it is not lawful to retaliate against an individual for
exposing employment practices that discriminate many people would seek retaliatory efforts.
Therefore there are many women who feel it may be better for them to suffer in silence than to deal
with revengeful or vindictive tactics such as being denied promotions or being scorned by other
women who may think that the victim is pressing charges for attention. Because of the nature of such
unprofessional behavior the victim may find him or herself very alone and no one wants to go through
that especially after suffering through the harassment itself.
Being sexually abused can have similar effects like rape in which the victim falls prey to depression,
shame and guilt. Being depressed can lead to anxiety problems, an increase or decrease in weight as
well as a lack of self confidence and self respect. They may experience the loss of trust in familiar
people and places. The victim can become withdrawn and if they are married the

The American Occupational Therapy Association
In order to drive the change, it is necessary to create a sense of urgency among the stakeholders, such
as occupational therapists, educators, OT students, and parents. The sense of urgency can be
established by pointing out possible consequences of not specifying OTs as school mental health
providers under the NCLB. It is necessary to convey to stakeholders that the current trends will
continue to restrict the role of OTs to the special education population. In the long run, this trend will
further limit OT services to address sensorimotor skills as schools are increasingly hiring different
disciplines to support students compliance and behavioral issues. Similarly, in the case of budget
constraints, schools are likely to eliminate or reduce the scope of OT services to redirect funds to
address the needs of the larger population. At the proximal level, the leading school therapists can use
team meetings and newsletters to create the sense of urgency. At the societal level, the American
Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) can use various platforms, such as OT Pulse and OT
connection, newsletters, online blogs, conferences, and Linked in or Facebook forums to create the
sense of urgency.
Changing policies, attitudes, and culture require a strong coalition of individuals who are willing to
take additional responsibilities and volunteer their time. Since the change will mainly benefit
occupational therapists and school occupational therapists, state OT associations

Discussion Of Honesty In Shakespeare s Othello
People can have anything they so desire, that is, if they are willing to sacrifice something in return.

daughter. The honesty pays off as Desdemona s father has to come to terms with the outcome and
accept what has happened. Like everyone else, she is ignorant to Iago s plot of getting revenge against
Othello and taking Cassio s position of lieutenant for himself. From the very beginning of the play
Desdemona s honest nature is revealed before the audience. An example of this is when she is brought
before the Duke of Venice and her father on the case of her elopement with Othello. She speaks her
mind and reveals her conflict on her loyalties to her father and her loyalties to Othello. In the end
stating that she chooses Othello while believing that she owes her father for her life and education, she

The Negative Impact of Social Networking Sites on People
Social Networking Sites People have been impacted by social networking sites. Social networking
sites have a negative influence on our generation because of bullying, predation, and an effect on our
education. With kids interacting freely they can come across predation. Furthermore, some predators
have an objective of enticing young people into sending inappropriate webcam photos of themselves
or to engage in sexually explicit conversations (Sexton and English 2). Kids are the easiest to
manipulate and to take control of. Also, critics of social networking sites claim that it contributes to
predatory or stalking behavior and can used to invade privacy (Belanger and Finley 1). Parents should
be going through their children s profile to make sure who they are talking to. Clearly, with kids
sending private information about themselves they can be blackmailed by the receiver into mental and
physical abuse. Our generation is mostly being affected by cyberbullying. Additionally, anonymity
online can cause people to engage in cyberbullying or other anti social behavior because of limited
fear of being caught or identified (Sexton and English 2). With the idea of not getting caught, people
think it s funny to cyberbully. In addition to, social networking websites are virtual communities that
encourage and foster interaction among members of a group by allowing them to post personal
information, communicate with other users and connect their profiles to other profiles

Essay On Working At Old Navy
Since my last reflection I have worked 9 at Old Navy. I have continued to work on registers mostly
however, at one point, my manger asked me to cover fitting rooms for someone s 15 minute break. I
was excited that I could try a new job. I had to develop new skills to undertake this new challenge of
working the fitting rooms. One of my co workers showed me the ropes. The job basically consisted of
telling people which dressing room to go in, unlocking the door with a key, placing a marker on the
door, and taking back the clothes that the costumers don t want and folding them. I enjoyed this job a
lot actually and I hope my manger will put me in fitting rooms for a whole shift one day. Old Navy

Legal and Ethical Aspects of Electronic Monitoring and Surveillance of Employees

Last exception is the consent . Consent exception applies to even when the sender of the intercepted
communication has been assured that all email communications would remain confidential and
privileged. In Smyth v The Pillsbury Company, Smyth sent emails to his supervisor that contained
unprofessional comments from his home computer. Because his supervisor gave consent to the
company to intercept the emails and the emails were later retrieved by the courts, Smyth was
terminated and was not able to be protected under the consent exception. A second commonplace
monitoring method used by employers is internet tracking. Internet tracking can be used to visit non
work websites like Facebook and Yahoo accounts. Statistics show over 90% of employees admits to
visiting other websites doing work hours. About 76% of firms monitor internet use. This can help
companies prevent employees from going to inappropriate sites which could possibly create legal
issues. For instance, a New Jersey case contained a log that showed one employee accessing porn
websites. This activity caused an employee to be arrested due to repeatedly logging on that site when
told by his supervisor to stop. Also, this type of activity draws attention to companies and causes law
enforcement to get involved and companies can be charged with aiding and abetting legal behavior if
found with evidence. A third form of employee

Mccarthy s Blood Meridian
Blood Meridian (1985) takes place in the nineteenth century in a time where America was going
through a period known as the Manifest Destiny. A period which saw the territorial expansion
westward towards the pacific, usually on populations who were seen as unable to govern themselves.
One could say that this period partly motivated the war between Mexico (roughly between 1846
1848), a war that plays an important role throughout the book. By doing so McCarthy highlights and
exaggerates the extent of brutality and hypocrisy that took place. McCarthy makes use of very explicit
and horrific terms to describe the setting of the book, by doing this one gets the sense that he implies
that humans are capable of such heartless and sinister acts, that ... Show more content on

However, nature takes war upon them first before they take war upon the Mexicans, as two filibusters

bladebones of the antelope and they covered them with stones and rode on again. (46) As they
continue on their journey the sun rises in the East, filling the sky with a colour that resembles that of

their intended death, as one by one they die of cholera. By using the bones of the dead cattle to bury
their comrades, it highlights the vastness of death in the wasteland where the breaking of dawn

Ebola In The Hot Zone
Introduction
In the medical thriller, The Hot Zone, Preston states that flawed decisions in outbreak situations are a
threat to human survival. Ebola is known by many to be lethal and in recent years, has caused an
interest within the public. Many in the United States have shown fear towards the threat of Ebola in
the country, which has caused many to also research the effects of Ebola on the human body.
Moreover, Ebola poses a threat to the safety of medical professionals; doctors must be able to safely
help patients without high risk of exposure to the hot virus. Of equal importance, medical
professionals involved with the treatment of hot viruses must be trained properly in order to

C-Diff Research Paper
Clostridium Difficile also known as C Diff is a bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract of the
human body. C Diff is a gram positive bacillus, which is spore forming. C Diff is one of the many
superbug that health care workers and hospitals battle. There is a very large push by the Centers for
Disease Control (CDC) to educate on hand hygiene and room decontamination for patients that have
tested positive for C Diff in a health care setting. This is because the spread of the disease is through
the fecal oral route, and with spores being able to live on contaminated surfaces for a long period of
time.
C Diff is an opportunistic infection, it will affect an individual whose flora in the intestines has been
compromised by the treatment of antibiotics for a different infection like pneumonia, MRSA, etc...

Anne explained that she was born in a yellow house in Bolingbroke, Nova Scotia in March. Her father
s name was Walter Shirley and her mother was Bertha Shirley. Both Water and Bertha Shirley were
teachers at the Bolingbroke High School. However, Berth gave up her profession when she married
Walter. Unfortunately, when Anne was only three months old, her mother succumbed to a severe fever
which claimed Bertha s life. Afterwards, four days from the death of Bertha, Walter also died from the
same disease. The Shirleys do not have any relatives, so Anne was put in the care of Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas until she was eight years old. However, it seems to be the fate of Anne to be orphaned and
abandoned by the people she loves. This is because, Mr. Thomas died by falling under a train,
consequently, Mrs. Thomas cannot afford to look after Anne solely by herself because she has her four
own children that required utmost care. Then, Anne Shirley lived with Mrs. Hammond for a period of
two years until the latter died. That was the time when Anne Shirley was brought to the Hopetown
Asylum where she spent four months until the she was mistakenly given to the Cuthbert siblings.
Anne also said that she enjoyed reading several literary pieces while in the asylum. This includes The

Disadvantages Of Constantine Grocery
As Constantine Grocery is growing from a small family business to a grocery store chain, the need for
raising funds has increased as a result of the expansion of the business. A preliminary study has been
conducted and the funds needed are believed to be around 135 million dollars. Our mission is to
explore the owner s options to obtain that amount of money and to recommend the best option through
demonstrating the advantages and disadvantages of each choice. 1 Issuing corporate bonds: These are
considered one of the tools used by companies to raise finance. Bonds are also considered as debt and
under there terms the borrower has to pay fixed interest, which is called coupon rate, on the loan and
repay the principal upon maturity of the debt (Choudhry, 2004). Unlike selling shares, bonds are less
risky to investors, allow business to buy back their bonds if they wanted to, and give the business the
opportunity to deduct the interest from the business s taxes (The Legal Environment and Foundations
for Business Law, 2012). The downside of issuing corporates bonds is the fact that they are loans and
they could lead the business to bankruptcy if the business is highly leveraged. In addition to that,
business has to follow the market in deciding the interest rates which increase their financial burden.
Finally, while the company still retain their ownership after issuing bonds, failing to pay interests
enables the investors to control the business through bankruptcy and they

Deminishing The Effects Of Channel Interference In Vehicular Communication Systems Using FIR
Digital Filters
Abstract:
Vehicular Communication systems ,an application of wireless communication is an increasing area of
communication between the vehicles and other roadside infrastructure in which allocation of wireless
channels are used to share information among vehicles and infrastructure and hence these channels are
used for the development and implementation of vehicular communication systems. The 10 MHz wide
channels in 5.9GHz spectrum band are reserved for this purpose by two main protocols the WAVE
standards proposed by IEEE in the United States and ETSI ITS G5 in Europe. But still the cross
channel interference affect the vehicular communication systems. So to diminish these problems, this
paper presents the implementation of two stage lowpass equiripple FIR filter, target to be integrated
with digital baseband receiver chain of vehicular communication platform. The filter was
evaluated, optimized and tested with the simulation results and FPGA implementation to provide the
low delay generated in operation and to show the effectiveness of the proposed filter.

Days went by and it was time for my first practice. I remember feeling nervous because I never played
before. There were about 12 other girls practicing and 2 coaches. Our team name were called the Baby
Dolls . We wore a purple jersey, black pants, and purple socks. At practice the coach taught us to run
the bases. After that he threw us big yellow softballs on the dirt and I had to field it with my glove. At
first it was hard but I had got the hang of it. After practice was over the team all huddled up and yelled
Baby Dolls on the count of 3. It was time to go home, and my parents asked me how was practice . I
looked at her and said I loved it . After that I fell in love with the sport and never stopped playing.
There are many challenges that I faced during

Persuasion And Anne Elliot
In the novel Persuasion, Anne Elliot was the second daughter of Sir Walter Elliot and was the heroine
in this novel by Jane Austen. Anne had two sisters named Elizabeth and Mary. Elizabeth was the
oldest daughter and was much like her father, being cold and selfish. Unfortunately, Elizabeth was her
father s favorite daughter. Mary was the youngest daughter who was married to a young man named
Charles Musgrove. Anne, being the middle child, was sweet and shy about her intelligence and was
ignored by her father and sister Elizabeth. Anne s father, Sir Walter Elliot, was a very conceited and
vain man because of his good looks and his title of minor nobility. He lived above his financial means
most of the time and rented a big home so others in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Austen children grew up being encouraged to learn by extensive reading from their father s
library and to be creative thinkers. Jane and her sister were sent to a boarding school so they would
have a formal education. Jane started to write romantic fiction as a young teen. After Jane s father
died, she and her sister had financial difficulties much like the Elliot s did in Persuasion. Jane Austen s
life seems to be closely related to many of the situations and characters in the lives of the female
characters she writes about in her novels. Jane was also persuaded by her father and a female mentor
to not to love a man because they believed he could not provide for her financially and he was not of a
high social status. This situation can be compared to Anne Elliot s character when she was persuaded
by her father and mentor, Lady Russell, to give up her love of and engagement to Captain Fredrick
Wentworth, a British naval officer. They found him to be an unsuitable choice because of his lack of
money and connections in society. Jane Austen wrote about real life issues of manner, upbringing of
children, morality, education, and marriage in a society of high social status and position. Jane Austen
s family was well respected members of their community, much like the Elliot family. Jane s status as
a single woman did not upset her like other single women. The lack of a husband allowed her the
freedom to concentrate on her novels, and gave her the opportunity to be a great observer of the
actions of those around her, especially in the study of complex classes and gender relationships which
were an important part of life in the early nineteenth century English

Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster Essay
Next on the list is Cleveland East Ohio Gas Explosion of 1944. On October 20, 1944, a storage tank
holding liquefied natural gas, that was kept above ground as was common at the time, began leaking.
The liquefied gas dropped into the sewer lines, mixed with air and sewer gas, and consequently
ignited. A series of fires and explosions killed 130 people in Cleveland, Ohio. The catastrophe event
made a significant impact on the natural gas industry, that started to store the tanks below ground
(Engineering Disasters, 2017, p. 1). Again, it is obvious the lesson learned here but that doesn t take
away from how important it is. The lesson was to store such gas below ground and to make
calculations for the unexpected. The sixth in this series was the Hyatt Regency Hotel Walkway
Collapse of 1981. On July 17, 1981, two vertically walkways collapsed at the Hyatt Regency in
Kansas City, falling into the hotel s lobby. 114 people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On January 28, 1986 the NASA Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, killing
all 7 astronauts on board. The investigation showed aerodynamics forces broke the shuttle apart, after
a structural failure that began with a specific gasket that failed at the very liftoff. The entire event was
broadcast live on TV (Engineering Disasters, 2017, p. 1). This disaster occurred after a gasket failure
in an attempt to rush a launch date by the administration. Refusing the request of an administration
figure due to a danger is one of the most difficult situations an engineer can be placed in because it can
jeopardize their job and as a result, their family is affected. Well it is one of the hardest situations it is
one of the most important to speak up and make sure your option is not only heard but is documented
as well because if it isn t then it shall be your engineering license on the line and without that and a
bad reputation your career life is pretty much

The Care Quality Commission For Women
In 1993 continuity of care was recognised by the government and was outlined in the department of
health policy paper Changing childbirth (DH, 1993). The document focused on choice and continuity
of the care a woman should receive. Subsequently, a greater shift towards Midwifery Led Care
developed. It has been suggested that a midwife should be the first point of contact for women
accessing maternity services (Department of Health 2007, Welsh Assembly Government 2002,
Scottish Executive 2001). Nevertheless, statics show that this was the case for only 24 percent of
women in 2010, with some improvement by 2013 at 32 percent. Conversely, in 2013 63 percent of
women first made contact with their family doctor (The Care Quality Commission, 2013). However
98% percent of women had their the remaining antenatal care provided by a midwife, 40% exclusively
and with 60% having shared care with a GP or consultant led care (The Care Quality Commission,
2013). This assignment will evaluate the care provided to an individual woman, her baby and her
family by a student midwife utilising the model of care known as case load midwifery, also known as
case loading. It will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of case loading and provide a short
history of the subject. The care of the woman, baby and her family will be examined. In order to
adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), (2015) and to maintain confidentiality, the
woman has been given the pseudonym Sarah

Korean War After The Cold War
War doesn t determine what is right, only what is left, said Bertrand Russell. Everyone once in their
lives face Korean war in their history classes. Korean war, the first military attack after the cold war
occurred between 1950 to 1953 and left a hostile scar in the world with more than 5 million casualties
that the Koreas ended in a ceasefire, not a peace treaty, technically remaining the peninsula still at war.
The headline: Negotiations Break Down Between Two Koreas (Choe, The New York Times )
illustrates how the two Koreas failed to achieve an agreement as they couldn t narrow their differences
on holding reunions for separated families. In this negotiation talk, South Korea requested for
corporations on reuniting thousands of aging Koreans whose families are dispersed by the Korean war.
However, North Korea would carry out this only when the South agrees on continuing the tourist
business in collaboration with the North which was ceased after a South Korean tourist got shot by a
soldier from the North Korean army for roaming around the restricted area in 2008. The tourist
investigation had been a significant financial backer to the North and South Korea would resume this,
if they admit and apologize for their fault. Unfortunately, the talk was founded as a result of not
budging from its position. Later on, in August that year, they had a military engagement after two
South Korean border guards were crippled by the land mines from North Korea. In fact, breaking

Fifth Business Identity Quotes
In Fifth Business, Robertson Davies attempts to illustrate the quest for self identity through the life of
the novel s protagonist, Dunstable Ramsay. During the first pages of this novel, a life changing
incident occurs that severely affects the fates of the three main characters: Dunstable Ramsay, Percy
Staunton, and Paul Dempster. In the small town of Deptford, Ontario, Percy Staunton, the town s
bully, throws a snowball bearing a stone at Dunstable. Being clever boy, Dunstable quickly ducks out
of the way and the snowball collides with pregnant Mrs. Dempster s skull. As a result, Mrs. Dempster
loses her sanity, goes into early labour, and gives birth to her premature child, Paul Dempster.
Although Dunstable was not the one to throw the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fifth Business is divided into six immense chapters around forty five pages each somewhat
representing a key period of Dunstan Ramsay s life: his childhood, the identity change, Mrs. Dempster
s sainthood, his friendship with Boy, the development of his self confidence and the unveiling of the
snowball incident. Then, each of these megachapters is divided into an average of eight subchapters.
This is extremely confusing due to the fact that the subchapters hardly ever relate in their entirety to
the main focus of the megachapter. Thus, the book is filled with irrelevant sections that contribute
neither to the plot nor to the unveiling of the characters personalities. For example, although the
primary focus of chapter three is Dunstan s quest to discover Mrs. Dempster s sainthood, he spends an
entire subsection of four pages describing Boy and Leola s wedding. The sole information that I
retained from those four pages was that Leola looked like a silver spoon in her dress. Likewise, the
use of figurative language contributed to the confusing style of Fifth Business. Throughout the book,
Robertson Davies often attempted to foreshadow upcoming events in Dunstan Ramsay s life.
However, this use of figurative language did nothing but add confusion to the plot, for it was not very
subtle. For example, in the very beginning of the book, Dunstan Ramsay mentions Paul Dempster for
the first time: That was how Paul Dempster, whose reputation is doubtless familiar to you (though that
was not the name under which he gained it), came to be born early on the morning of December 28 in
1908. (Davies, 5). In this sentence, Robertson Davies had attempted to foreshadow Paul s change of
identity; but, only added confusion to the plot, for at this point in the book, the reader does not have
enough information about Paul Dempster to fully comprehend the foreshadow.

  • 2. The Effect Of Neighborhood Environment On Birth Outcomes This article sought to assess the effect of neighborhood environment on birthweight and the potential mediation by psychosocial, behavioral, and biological factors. Authors provided the reasoning for their study by indicating that the effect of neighborhood on birth outcomes has been well documented in the literature, still the mechanism by which neighborhood context affects these outcomes was not clear. Their review of the literature was very comprehensive in that it covered many aspects related to the complex relationships between neighborhood context and birth outcomes. However, they only briefly commented on the potential protective effect of racial segregation on birth outcomes; a possibility that has been documented in the literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Authors did a good job adjusting for individual socioeconomic variables, although there is still the challenge that some of these variables (e.g., income and education) could be mediators and not confounders. They used validated tools to measure stress, though, it measures daily life stressors that are less likely to be influenced by neighborhood context. Ascertainment of exposure to drugs was well done, while smoking and alcohol consumption were self reported during the postpartum interview and thus prone to recall bias. As in many similar multi level analyses, this study suffered from the crude measures of neighborhood exposures by using census tracts indicators (4). Neighborhood characteristics were retrieved from the 1990 U.S. Census. Thus, they may inaccurately represent neighborhood context during the relevant time period (1995 1996), as it is possible that these characteristics may have changed over time. One methodological barrier in neighborhood studies is the correlation between neighborhood variables (5). To overcome this barrier, they summarized the four indicators (% black, % poverty, violent crime rate, and % boarded up housing) into one index variable. While this approach is methodologically correct, it became difficult to understand which aspects of neighborhood context affected the outcome, which limited the relevance of study findings to real life ... • 3. The Thematic Concept Of Fear In Beowulf And Gilgamesh Overall Introduction: For years, literature has been used to teach us important morals and life lessons. These life lessons are often universal in nature. This means that no matter what age, gender, or status a person is, anyone can relate to the theme being discussed. For this reason they are called universal themes. Non universal themes are themes that are specific to the story being told, but are not considered universally understood. The following demonstrates that Beowulf and Gilgamesh both have the same universal thematic statement concept of fear in addition to a multiple non universal themes throughout them. Thematic Discussion When looking at the universal theme Gilgamesh and Beowulf, the thematic concept is fear. The thematic statement for this universal theme would be: In literature, as well as in real life, man often my come up against someone or something he fears and then must decide whether or not they will act in cowardly or courageous way . The thematic concept for Beowulf that is a non universal theme would be political generosity. The thematic statement would be that: In Beowulf, one can see how generosity and hospitality were considered very important to the Danish culture. However, this not considered a universal theme, because although generosity and hospitality may have been considered very important attributes at the time Beowulf was written, not every culture of the time considered these nicetes to be of the highest importance. These treaties allow the international community to work together and agree on certain standards of war and human rights. The Geneva Conventions are an important aspect to the field of international relations. These treaties embody the commonly felt humanitarian ideals of the majority of the world, which proves that the international community can work together and agree on human rights. This element of teamwork across the international community contributes to the idealist view of international relations. The idealist view claims that ideas and traditions are what brings countries together, ends war, and facilitates globalization; typically laws and traditions vary per state, but sometimes they can transcend borders. The state of exception is an example of the decline in respect for international law because it gives a temporarily vulnerable state the ability to evade otherwise accepted international norms without a deadline for taking things back to the way they were (Scheppele, Journal of Constitutional Law). • 5. Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Short Story The story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is integral to the overall narrative of the Israelites descent into Egypt. It also tells us that anyone can make his or her dreams come true. His progression from dream interpreting shepherd to minister of Egypt is one of the most elaborate stories in the Bible, the Book of Genesis. Joseph was born in a family of 12 boys and Joseph was his father s favorite. Jacob wanted to show everyone how much he loved Joseph and decided to give him coat of many colors. The coat of colors was a prestige gift in Canaan, because it was very expensive back then. Joseph had a dream of 11 sheaves of corn that turned and bowed down to a golden sheaf of corn another dream that was about the sun, moon, and sky with eleven stars bowing down before a bright golden star. He knew that someday he was meant for more things to come that are powerful in his life. This was God s way to show him that he will be great someday and be a ruler. With the combination of knowing Joseph is Jacob s favorite son and Joseph s dreams of being one that he may be a ruler of some kind, the 11 brothers become very jealous. If an out of town guest at the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut were to be robbed at gunpoint outside of the resort, would that crime be attributed to the fact that Connecticut had legalizing gambling, or the tourism that said legalization resulted in? Conversely, if an individual has squandered their vacation or gambling budget in the casino, are they now viewed as potential criminal offenders? Again, it is nearly impossible to conclude whether or not these types of robberies are due to the casino that is attracting the tourism, or the fact that the community itself has now become a tourist attraction? A study conducted by the University of Nevada Reno states that when comparing the before and after crime rates utilizing the population at risk, the data reveals few consistent trends in crime . • 10. Examples Of Queer Theory In The Great Gatsby Ryann Alyssa Peebles November 8, 2017 Literally Analysis Paper Ernie Abyetia ENGL100A_FA_2017 Queer theory is a post structuralist theory that emerged in the early 1990s from the fields of queer and women s studies. The theory builds on both feminist challenges to the idea that gender is part of the essential self and upon gay and lesbian studies close examination of the socially constructed nature of sexual activity and identities. This theory focuses on the mismatches between sex, gender, and desire. Queerness has been prominently identified as bisexual, lesbian, and gay people, although it also includes different categories such as cross dressing, intersex bodies and identities, gender ambiguity and gender corrective surgery. The queer theory is an attempt to expose the different lifestyles that people may be unaware of and to give them several categories in the LGBTQ community to look at; correlates sexes, genders, and sexualities out of specifically lesbian and gay. One of these examples of queer analysis is in F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. The narrative progression in the novel is stationed around Jay Gatsby s deep love for Daisy Fay Buchanan and the three overlapping heterosexual love triangles: Gatsby Daisy Tom, Tom Myrtle George, Myrtle Tom Daisy. This heterosexual plot is indeed shadowed by a homoerotic subtext but with all the twists and turns of the novel. When walking onto a college campus as a young adult, people get a rush of the unknown. The unknown could be going to college parties and late night study groups. College should be like any high school or elementary school and have better security measures to protect their students. The reasons we need these extra steps are to prevent violence, give students a sense of security, and monitor visitors on campus. First of all, violence can be prevented on campuses among the students once safety issues are put in place. There are several ways to prevent the violence including security cameras and metal detectors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In another incident at Western Kentucky University, a young woman was raped, stabbed, and burned to death in her dorm. Everyone that entered the building was supposed to sign in and show identification in this case the one involved walked in without being questioned, he proceeded to her room where she was brutally murdered. When visitors are seen by security and made to sign in and show identification, it would help monitor the visitors in each building. Therefore, guards stationed outside of dorms at night would prevent unauthorized visitors in the building and the guards could personally identify who enters and leaves each building. Thirdly, visitors on a campus is not a bad thing, but they must be monitored for student safety. There have been other crimes on campuses like purse snatching in the middle of the day, car break ins, and shoplifting at the school stores. In addition, the most up to date statistics show there were more than 35,000 reported crimes on U.S. college campuses in just one year. Furthermore, if a crime occurs the person involved can be identified easier by checking the log book and talking to security. I thought I had, in a way, already had my transformative moment; I was there to see my Dominican friends again, to help my HGP friends experience the trip, and to do some good for the people of the Dominican Republic. After all, how could just two weeks in a country really change your life? Again, you kind of have to be there. So what makes this trip so unique? What s the takeaway? What did I really learn? Well for one, I can say that I have so much interest in and respect for Hispanic and especially Dominican culture. Hospitality, acceptance, kindness, and a welcoming smile are things that are certainly lacking in the states. It may seem insignificant, but there s something special about walking past a stranger, and not having to put your head down, make a stern face, and continue in a straight line. Two years ago, I could have pulled up tons of statistics about poverty, and how poor the majority of the world is. The conditions that some people live under are really just cruel, but it s not the hut made from the leaves that s the cruel thing; it s our big houses, luxury cars, and designer clothes. The policy was in operation between the 1930s and the 1960s. One of the main justifications for the policy, was to educate the half caste children so that they could fit into society. The half caste people were half aboriginal and half European. These were the people which the policy affected the most. At the time, Australia had another policy called the white Australia policy. This stated that any person who was not of a European race was not allowed to live in Australia. This policy was in action until the 1960s. Aboriginals were not treated as citizens of Australia. Although they abided by the countries rules, they were not allowed to take an active part in society by doing things like voting in elections. Arguments Against the Policy I am now going to state some of the arguments against the stolen generation policy . Taking children away from their parents is a very immoral thing to do. Some women may even prefer not to report any allegations of being pressured sexually for fear of what might happen to them if they do. Although it is not lawful to retaliate against an individual for exposing employment practices that discriminate many people would seek retaliatory efforts. Therefore there are many women who feel it may be better for them to suffer in silence than to deal with revengeful or vindictive tactics such as being denied promotions or being scorned by other women who may think that the victim is pressing charges for attention. Because of the nature of such unprofessional behavior the victim may find him or herself very alone and no one wants to go through that especially after suffering through the harassment itself. • 18. The American Occupational Therapy Association In order to drive the change, it is necessary to create a sense of urgency among the stakeholders, such as occupational therapists, educators, OT students, and parents. The sense of urgency can be established by pointing out possible consequences of not specifying OTs as school mental health providers under the NCLB. It is necessary to convey to stakeholders that the current trends will continue to restrict the role of OTs to the special education population. In the long run, this trend will further limit OT services to address sensorimotor skills as schools are increasingly hiring different disciplines to support students compliance and behavioral issues. Similarly, in the case of budget constraints, schools are likely to eliminate or reduce the scope of OT services to redirect funds to address the needs of the larger population. At the proximal level, the leading school therapists can use team meetings and newsletters to create the sense of urgency. At the societal level, the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) can use various platforms, such as OT Pulse and OT connection, newsletters, online blogs, conferences, and Linked in or Facebook forums to create the sense of urgency. Furthermore, some predators have an objective of enticing young people into sending inappropriate webcam photos of themselves or to engage in sexually explicit conversations (Sexton and English 2). Kids are the easiest to manipulate and to take control of. Also, critics of social networking sites claim that it contributes to predatory or stalking behavior and can used to invade privacy (Belanger and Finley 1). Parents should be going through their children s profile to make sure who they are talking to. Clearly, with kids sending private information about themselves they can be blackmailed by the receiver into mental and physical abuse. Our generation is mostly being affected by cyberbullying. Additionally, anonymity online can cause people to engage in cyberbullying or other anti social behavior because of limited fear of being caught or identified (Sexton and English 2). With the idea of not getting caught, people think it s funny to cyberbully. In addition to, social networking websites are virtual communities that encourage and foster interaction among members of a group by allowing them to post personal information, communicate with other users and connect their profiles to other profiles ... Unlike selling shares, bonds are less risky to investors, allow business to buy back their bonds if they wanted to, and give the business the opportunity to deduct the interest from the business s taxes (The Legal Environment and Foundations for Business Law, 2012). This situation can be compared to Anne Elliot s character when she was persuaded by her father and mentor, Lady Russell, to give up her love of and engagement to Captain Fredrick Wentworth, a British naval officer. They found him to be an unsuitable choice because of his lack of money and connections in society. Jane Austen wrote about real life issues of manner, upbringing of children, morality, education, and marriage in a society of high social status and position. Jane Austen s family was well respected members of their community, much like the Elliot family. Jane s status as a single woman did not upset her like other single women. The lack of a husband allowed her the freedom to concentrate on her novels, and gave her the opportunity to be a great observer of the actions of those around her, especially in the study of complex classes and gender relationships which were an important part of life in the early nineteenth century English ... • 41. Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster Essay Next on the list is Cleveland East Ohio Gas Explosion of 1944. On October 20, 1944, a storage tank holding liquefied natural gas, that was kept above ground as was common at the time, began leaking. The liquefied gas dropped into the sewer lines, mixed with air and sewer gas, and consequently ignited. A series of fires and explosions killed 130 people in Cleveland, Ohio. The catastrophe event made a significant impact on the natural gas industry, that started to store the tanks below ground (Engineering Disasters, 2017, p. 1). Again, it is obvious the lesson learned here but that doesn t take away from how important it is. The lesson was to store such gas below ground and to make calculations for the unexpected. The sixth in this series was the Hyatt Regency Hotel Walkway Collapse of 1981. On July 17, 1981, two vertically walkways collapsed at the Hyatt Regency in Kansas City, falling into the hotel s lobby. 114 people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On January 28, 1986 the NASA Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, killing all 7 astronauts on board. The investigation showed aerodynamics forces broke the shuttle apart, after a structural failure that began with a specific gasket that failed at the very liftoff. The entire event was broadcast live on TV (Engineering Disasters, 2017, p. 1). This disaster occurred after a gasket failure in an attempt to rush a launch date by the administration. Refusing the request of an administration figure due to a danger is one of the most difficult situations an engineer can be placed in because it can jeopardize their job and as a result, their family is affected. Well it is one of the hardest situations it is one of the most important to speak up and make sure your option is not only heard but is documented as well because if it isn t then it shall be your engineering license on the line and without that and a bad reputation your career life is pretty much ... • 42. The Care Quality Commission For Women In 1993 continuity of care was recognised by the government and was outlined in the department of health policy paper Changing childbirth (DH, 1993). The document focused on choice and continuity of the care a woman should receive. Subsequently, a greater shift towards Midwifery Led Care developed. It has been suggested that a midwife should be the first point of contact for women accessing maternity services (Department of Health 2007, Welsh Assembly Government 2002, Scottish Executive 2001). Nevertheless, statics show that this was the case for only 24 percent of women in 2010, with some improvement by 2013 at 32 percent. Conversely, in 2013 63 percent of women first made contact with their family doctor (The Care Quality Commission, 2013). However 98% percent of women had their the remaining antenatal care provided by a midwife, 40% exclusively and with 60% having shared care with a GP or consultant led care (The Care Quality Commission, 2013). This assignment will evaluate the care provided to an individual woman, her baby and her family by a student midwife utilising the model of care known as case load midwifery, also known as case loading. It will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of case loading and provide a short history of the subject. The care of the woman, baby and her family will be examined. In order to adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), (2015) and to maintain confidentiality, the woman has been given the pseudonym Sarah ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Korean War After The Cold War War doesn t determine what is right, only what is left, said Bertrand Russell. Everyone once in their lives face Korean war in their history classes. Korean war, the first military attack after the cold war occurred between 1950 to 1953 and left a hostile scar in the world with more than 5 million casualties that the Koreas ended in a ceasefire, not a peace treaty, technically remaining the peninsula still at war. The headline: Negotiations Break Down Between Two Koreas (Choe, The New York Times ) illustrates how the two Koreas failed to achieve an agreement as they couldn t narrow their differences on holding reunions for separated families. In this negotiation talk, South Korea requested for corporations on reuniting thousands of aging Koreans whose families are dispersed by the Korean war. However, North Korea would carry out this only when the South agrees on continuing the tourist business in collaboration with the North which was ceased after a South Korean tourist got shot by a soldier from the North Korean army for roaming around the restricted area in 2008. The tourist investigation had been a significant financial backer to the North and South Korea would resume this, if they admit and apologize for their fault. Unfortunately, the talk was founded as a result of not budging from its position. Later on, in August that year, they had a military engagement after two South Korean border guards were crippled by the land mines from North Korea. In fact, breaking ... • 44. Fifth Business Identity Quotes In Fifth Business, Robertson Davies attempts to illustrate the quest for self identity through the life of the novel s protagonist, Dunstable Ramsay. During the first pages of this novel, a life changing incident occurs that severely affects the fates of the three main characters: Dunstable Ramsay, Percy Staunton, and Paul Dempster. In the small town of Deptford, Ontario, Percy Staunton, the town s bully, throws a snowball bearing a stone at Dunstable. Being clever boy, Dunstable quickly ducks out of the way and the snowball collides with pregnant Mrs. Dempster s skull. As a result, Mrs. Dempster loses her sanity, goes into early labour, and gives birth to her premature child, Paul Dempster. Although Dunstable was not the one to throw the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fifth Business is divided into six immense chapters around forty five pages each somewhat representing a key period of Dunstan Ramsay s life: his childhood, the identity change, Mrs. Dempster s sainthood, his friendship with Boy, the development of his self confidence and the unveiling of the snowball incident. Then, each of these megachapters is divided into an average of eight subchapters. This is extremely confusing due to the fact that the subchapters hardly ever relate in their entirety to the main focus of the megachapter. Thus, the book is filled with irrelevant sections that contribute neither to the plot nor to the unveiling of the characters personalities. For example, although the primary focus of chapter three is Dunstan s quest to discover Mrs. Dempster s sainthood, he spends an entire subsection of four pages describing Boy and Leola s wedding. The sole information that I retained from those four pages was that Leola looked like a silver spoon in her dress. Likewise, the use of figurative language contributed to the confusing style of Fifth Business. Throughout the book, Robertson Davies often attempted to foreshadow upcoming events in Dunstan Ramsay s life. However, this use of figurative language did nothing but add confusion to the plot, for it was not very subtle. For example, in the very beginning of the book, Dunstan Ramsay mentions Paul Dempster for the first time: That was how Paul Dempster, whose reputation is doubtless familiar to you (though that was not the name under which he gained it), came to be born early on the morning of December 28 in 1908. (Davies, 5). In this sentence, Robertson Davies had attempted to foreshadow Paul s change of identity; but, only added confusion to the plot, for at this point in the book, the reader does not have enough information about Paul Dempster to fully comprehend the foreshadow. ...
