Every ancient civilization had a set of beliefs and the Mayan people were no
different. The Mayan people believed in two worlds, the everyday world and the
underworld, or the Place of Awe, (2012). The Mayans believed in many gods,

religious culture. It was not until 900 AD that the Mayans began to flourish in

According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes mellitusis a group of
metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin
secretion, insulin action, or both. The chronic hyperglycemia associated with diabetes
results in failure of various organs including eyes, kidneys, heart, and blood vessels
(American Diabetes Association, 2016). Possible complications of diabetes include
heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, leg amputation, vision loss, nerve damage, and
premature death (World Health Organization, 2016).
The databases for the Centers for Disease Control and Protection, World Health
Organization, National Institute of Health, National Vital Statistics Survey, and
Kentucky Data Warehouse and Kentucky Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance
System were reviewed for datasets and information for diabetes mellitus.
Globally, an estimated 422 million adults were living with diabetes in 2014. The
prevalence of diabetes has nearly doubled since 1980, rising from 4.7% to 8.5% in
adult population. In the past ten years, diabetes prevalence has risen faster in low and
middle income countries in comparison to high income countries. Diabetes is
responsible for 1.5 million deaths in 2012 (World Health Organization, 2016).

Matsumoto when the chemical nerve agent sarin was released. The suspected
method of distribution disbursement of the sarin was from a van equipped with a
heating pot and fan. This sarin terrorist attack killed seven people and injured over

future deadly sarin attack on Tokyo subways which aimed to kill as many people as
