Dracula And Gothic Essay
The Gothic genre does suppress vulnerable women. They are exploited in order to please the
tyrannical male and feed his desires. When the women is no longer of use, she is then discarded. The
Gothic genre is described as formulaic and one of the key features is a tyrannical male who abuses his
power to assert his dominance over a perceived futile women. Bram Stoker s Dracula was written in
time where women started to want more equal rights and opportunities. For example, in the same year
Dracula was published (1897), Millicent Fawcett founded The National Union of Women s Suffrage .
Bram Stoker feared the decline of the patriarchal figure and could have created Dracula as an attempt
to scaremonger the public into thinking what would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lucy is not seen to be the ideal Victorian wife, why can t they let a girl marry three men or as many
that want her , due to her low morals and her naivety towards the way a women was expected to act it
allowed Dracula to exploit her. Stoker presents Lucy in a way that would be shocking and
unacceptable for a Victorian reader. Stoker insinuates that Lucy is fatherless because Stoker only
refers to her father once in the book and it is in the past tense, Lucy s father, had the same habit he
would get up in the night and dress himself , even if Lucy s father is alive it is clear that he has had
minimal involvement and impact on Lucy s life. Stoker could be suggesting that Lucy s lack of a
patriarch has meant that she has a desire and craving for one leading her to finding one where ever she
could find it. When Dracula is removing blood from Lucy she is described as half reclining Stokers
use of this word suggests that Dracula is not forcing her or even restraining her, it implies that she is
accepting what is taking place. Stoker goes as far as to imply that Lucy is enjoy the experience, Her

argued that at this moment she is conforming to the hierarchy of society by being submissive due to

The Modern Age Presents Multiple Channels For Action,...
The modern age presents multiple channels for action, dialogue and discussion. Furthermore, social
and political thought suggests that spaces of remembrance encourage understanding, thought and
reflection. Thus, it is thought that memory holds vast opportunities to mend the of frailty of human
affairs. Good deeds, when reified into memories can be held up to be replicated, or possibly surpassed
in the future. Yet the process of memorialisation is often contested, for the formation of memory can
only occur in retrospect on behalf of someone or something. Public commemoration is a difficult
process, as it simplifies and condenses complex stories at the cost of omitting others. Thus, spaces of
remembrance can become spaces of contestation, and memory entails political risk. Memory presents
a crucial tension in the network of ideas and action, which are both public and private. It is not only
central to improving the frailty of human affairs, it is a dauntingly complex process weaved with
intrinsically personal reflections, which, leads us to the fundamental paradox of memory. Memory is
crucial to the public realm, but it originates within. Furthermore, the modern age multiplies spaces of
remembrance presenting an unfettered opportunity to improve the frailty of human affairs. Yet, the
contestation of memories such as those in war have often been internalised, and thus refuted on a
deeply personal level to challenge mourning is viewed as perverse act of disrespectful to the

Heart disease is a complication associated with diabetes. When it comes to procedures such as bypass,
surgery, angioplasty and stents, it is usually presumed that the least invasion option is the best.
Discover the truth behind this presumption and why it might not always be the case for those with
diabetes.
With surgical procedures, in many instances the least invasive one is considered the best option. This
is especially true for people with immune disorders, such as diabetes. But this might not necessary be

The Importance Of Technology In Modern America
American citizens today are so obsessed with being the future that they forget to live in the present.
Wendell Berry, a writer that appreciates simplicity, asserts that Modern America has put education, the
economy, and technology over religion, family bonding, happiness, and health. He disapprove the use
of electronics because he feels that it does not significantly outclass the usage of a pen and a paper.
While electronics did make life simplistic, Berry is correct in disapprove technology in that it alters
one s priorities, causes us to lose our abilities to concentrate, and causes citizens to miss out on the
real world around them because it makes humans unable to fully live their life independently. To
begin, The use of electronics causes one to change their priorities. In the passage of the onion, The
Onion: Police: iPhone Left In Hot Car For Three Hours, a writer copy a news report of a baby left in a
hot car for 3 hours but replay the baby with an Iphone. Police had broken into the car to in order to
save its life from the extreme heat of the car and gave the abandoned iphone new widgets for
surviving such harsh conditions(1). The onion s symbolism of the phone as a baby showed how deeply
attached living souls are to their technology and how it affects their priorities, which they treat their
phones as if it is their own baby. The Town assemblywoman, Janet Nuetreer , went as to claim that

Gilded Age Hero
The world is constantly evolving. Time periods come and go, but certain ones stay with us and are
remembered greatly. Of such, the Gilded Age is one of those few that made a very large impact on our
world today. The Gilded Age is the period in American history from around 1870 1900 s where the
United States population and economy grew quickly in a short amount of time causing extensive
amounts of slave work and wealthy individuals to live pretentious lifestyles. During this period, John
D. Rockefeller, The founder of the Standard Oil Company, became one of the world s well known
wealthiest individuals and a major philanthropist. In total, he controlled some 90 percent of the nation

Rockefeller was in fact a villain, he is also thought of as a hero to the Gilded Age because of the few
good acts he did. During the Gilded Age, oil was very expensive and difficult to acquire.Overall, only
the wealthy and well privileged had much access to it, but Standard Oil developed the world s largest
oil refineries and drove down the cost of refining oil, (World Book, Rockefeller). With Rockefeller as
the head of the company, he was able to expand access of oil to those who didn t have as much money
and produce large amounts of oil for little cost. With his new ideas and methods, he was able to cut
down oil cost and produce more of it more efficiently and quicker than that of the past. Due to
becoming one of the wealthiest individuals in the United States, Rockefeller had a substantial amount
of money and He gave away about $540 million during his lifetime. He gave most of his money to the
public through foundations he established himself and through other organizations, (World Book,
Rockefeller). These other foundations, which were mainly universities, highly profited and grew off of
these generous donations from Rockefeller. They are still functioning today and Rockefellers impact
on them has never been forgotten. As a result, John D. Rockefeller was thought of to be a hero rather
than a villain. Besides all this good he may have done, his selfish acts can t go unseen and unnoticed
from his action.
John D Rockefeller lived a higher, better life than almost every American during this time age. He also
obtained an extravagant amount of power through his work and company. His good deeds were
overruled by his many bad deeds therefore making him a villain rather than a hero.

Richard Nixon s Involvement In Vietnam
Many people think that all Nixon did in his presidency was the watergate scandal, but in reality he
helped stop Americans fighting in the Vietnam War. When Richard Nixon started in Office he was
faced with the difficult task of trying to pull all US troops out of Vietnam. He decided to use a tactic
he created called Vietnamization. The simple plan was to strengthen South Vietnam so they could
fight the war by themselves. The plan involved many small steps which helped finally end our
involvement in January 1973. The War was highly disliked by many Americans. This split America up
and caused divisions in America. Richard Nixon ended US involvement in the Vietnam war by using
the strategy of Vietnamization. Richard Nixon was the 37th President of the United States of America.
He was also the only president to resign from office. Nixon was born on January 9,1913 in Yorba
Linda, CA. Nixon s parents were Francis A. Nixon and Hannah Milhous Nixon, whose maiden name
is Milhous. Francis was an American businessman and Hannah was a devoted Quaker. Richard Nixon

Branched Chain Amino Acid Research Paper
Branched chain amino acids help decrease exercise induced muscle damage, increase muscle recovery
and regulate protein synthesis. They are also very essential in reducing fatigue. This means that you
will be able to train at a higher intensity for a prolonged period.
The BCAA refer to a group of important amino acids which include leucine, isoleucine, and valine.
Though amino acids are the main building blocks of protein, which the body cannot produce. So the
BCAA amino acids must consumed as part of the daily diet.
Nearly all the proteins are made from the BCAAs. Researchers show that the BCAA S are mainly
leucine and handle regulating protein synthesis.
When are you supposed to use BCAA amino acids?
The branded chain amino acids are most beneficial when included with post exercise recovery

For your post exercise recovery, ensure that you take adequate levels of BCAAs which is average
must be 15 grams. The amount of leucine needed to stimulate protein synthesis and improve muscle
recovery is around 3,000 mg after heavy workout.
What you are supposed to know about the BCAA amino acids is that it can stimulate protein synthesis.
The BCAAs may also play a role in delaying central fatigue. When you ingest branched chain you
increase the amount in the bloodstream, helps in balancing the free tryptophan associated with the
exercise. The amino acids decrease the amount of tryptophan transported to the brain, ultimately
delaying fatigue.
There are a lot of benefits which are associated with consuming BCAAs during the various types of
exercise. Some of these training include strength training, endurance training, and general exercise.
As it can be seen from the research, the amino acids are very important supplements which must be
included in the diet. As an athlete or any other person who is looking to maintain the muscle or build
up the muscles, you must have the branded chain amino acids as the main

Hoover Dam Research Paper
One of America s most popular attractions the Hoover Dam, may look like a large block of concrete
but it is really much more than it appears. Built during the Depression; thousands of men and their
families came to Black Canyon to tame the Colorado River. It took less than five years, in a harsh and
barren land, to build the largest dam of its time.
(https://www.usbr.gov/lc/hooverdam/history/storymain.html) Most people don t know that this
gigantic dam is capable of producing enough energy for its surrounding states. Consequently, there is
more to this story than some would think. This Moving 5.5 million tons of dirt. building this multi

with wood. Once the outline on the bottom layer was filled with concrete they would move up to the

used buckets on long wires to drop the concrete. Workers then made sure there are no air pockets after
the concrete was dropped. In case the water level was too high the spillway would release 200,000
cubic feet of water per second. The spillway is just a large tunnel with a water gateway. The spillway

Data Measured On The Control Condition Essay
Results
Compared to the control condition, a significant decrease in the level of NRS pain scores was related
to the hypnotic hypoalgesia condition (2.9+/ 0.4, P 0.0001) compared to the control condition (5.4+/
0.3). During all three experimental conditions, the NRS scores were reported as a mean and compared
using an analysis of variance (ANOVA). The analyses of the NRS is a collection of quantitative data
measured on an interval obtained from the participants throughout the duration of the experiment
(Abrahamsen et al., 2010).
The areas of the brain associated with the pain matrix, the right posterior insula and the primary
somatosensory cortex, showed a significant increase in activation in response to the control condition
during the painful pin prick stimulus compared to no painful stimulus. There was also a significant
increase in activation of the right posterior middle temporal gyrus, the middle frontal gyrus, the left
supramarginal gyrus, and the precentral gyrus. A portion of the posterior insula was significantly
activated during the hypnotic hypoalgesia condition with the painful prick stimuli. The painful prick
stimulation in the hypnotic hyperalgesia condition showed an increase in the activation of the inferior
parietal lobule, the precentral gyrus, and the posterior insula (Abrahamsen et al., 2010).

Introduction:
The red cabbage mark shows how simple household product such as red cabbage can make a suitable
mark and be able find out if a chemical is either an Neutral, alkali or acid. Chemicals that are acid
reacts with an alkali neutralizing it making water and a salt. Acids commonly are sour tasting. Acids
change with metals, releasing hydrogen gas and leaving behind a salt. Acids conduct electricity. Acids
also readily give off hydrogen ions and have a pH level lower than 7. Simple common acids are

Narrative Essay On The Glass Castle
As flames engulfed her dress, they burned down her stomach as she screamed for help. This was the
first memory Jeannette Walls had in The Glass Castle . The plot of the story reveals her childhood of
poverty as she moved around the country with her delusional family. Her alcoholic father and
mentally ill mother created a very different lifestyle for their children, and raised them like no other.
The unique plot, strong characters, and many settings make the novel successful. In this
autobiography, she perseveres through tough times and leads the reader down the path she took to
adulthood.
In her younger years, Jeannette was an smart and imaginative child. At first, she enjoyed moving
around, and had a lot of faith in her father, which created a good relationship between them. All we
had to was find gold, once we d struck it rich, he d [Rex] start work on our Glass Castle (Walls, 25).
The tremendous faith that she has in Rex creates a strong bond because she is the only family member
who trusts his ideas. Unfortunately, he is a raging alcoholic who can t hold a job, so most of his
promises are broken. As Jeannette gets older, he lets her down more and more. One time he brought
her to a bar where she was then sexually violated. When the two had a talk after, he said I knew you
could handle yourself (Walls, 213,) instead of defending her. It was upsetting to watch their
relationship grow apart and to see how poorly he provided for his family, yet they still loved him.

Switching At Thomas County Central High School

with the rest of the GHSA board care about students not taking advantage of switching schools just to

from taking mine or my team mates spots on the team. It is also understandable that you along with
other GHSA board members may not think about school systems like ours that continuously have
people switching primarily because of the rigor of different school, such as me switching to TCCHS

and rigor that they teach with. After weighing out both points of view, transfers from any school
should be allowed to participate in varsity sports without having to wait a year from the time of
transferring to their new school. My thought out solution is to simply allow it, but have those athletes
only be able to play half of the season. The 50% that they get to play in the season would be talked out
between the coach, athlete, and the parents. Having this rule would be a good compromise between
not allowing transfers to play and allowing them. With this rule in place, athletes would be able to get

Michael Buckley s Witness Film Analysis
How does Buckley s Witness create viewer sympathy?
In society, both past and present, individuals with mental illnesses are judged and stigmatized for their
inabilities and differences. The Australian filmmaker, Michael Buckley explores this aspect of society
through his short biographical film Witness implicating the life of John Harrowell and his sufferings
due to being institutionalized at such a young age. The text runs for brief period of time, but within
that short period of time, a variety of filmic techniques are utilised to create a more emotional impact
on the viewers. Through the utilisation of three prominent filmic techniques; symbolism,
characterisation and themes, Buckley is able to effectively portray the tragic life of John ... Show more

The expressions that he creates, allows us to know exactly what he is feeling and sympathise with his
pain. Additionally, Buckley s Witness is narrated from the protagonist s perspective. This creates
empathy towards the main character, John Harrowell, as it describes what he has personally
experienced hence, the viewers thoroughly understand the events that have occurred, and can
effectively stand in his shoes, making the events more personal. Consequently, Harrowell effectively
portrays his painful experiences. By allowing the text to follow the structure of chronological
narrative, there is a structured series of events, linked by cause and effect that provide the plot of the
film. Hence, successfully expressing the life of Harrowell and exemplifying it as tragic and disturbing
story, Buckley is able to create viewer sympathy. John states that he was scared to damn hell and was
freighted of what the other patients might do to him . This indicates to the audience that there were
potential risks of physical abuse within the mental institution, also indicating that the mental hospital
was very incompetent with their services. Therefore, the viewers recognize John Harrowell s
agonizing lifestyle. The viewers subconsciously compare their childhood with Harrowell s and
therefore, they understand the vast differences between them. Therefore, as a result, the viewers

The Murray Darling Basin (MDD)
The Murray Darling River Basin: The Basin can be found in South Eastern Australia and mostly in the
New South Wales, with a hot semi arid North and North East and a warm semi arid South due to the
proximity of the Southern Pacific Ocean ( About The Murray Darling Basin , 2016); vegetation
consists of mostly small shrubs and sparse to semi dense trees. The two largest rivers are the Murray
and the Darling. They both find headwaters in the Australian Alps, along with other tributaries which
flow into the basin, and are influenced by seasonal rainfall but also the La Nina and El Nino oceanic
patterns. The basin itself is a flat plain located on what is known as the Murray Darling Depression
(MDD). The plain as it is roughly seen today was created about 50 60 million years ago the region
was a shallow sea; but the region had been a shallow see many times before this, as sea levels have

Eglin Pkwy Research Papers
Accidents on the road happen daily. Reducing the likelihood of an accident requires the enforcement
of necessary traffic laws and the use of appropriate safety measures. On occasion, however, certain
safety measures are not taken or enforced when they should be. One such place that has great need for
such measures is the intersection of Eglin Pkwy and 12th Ave in Shalimar Florida. The Eglin Pkwy
and 12th Ave intersection is a very familiar place for most locals. Here Richbourg Ave coincides with
12th Ave and intersecting Eglin Pkwy. Going north on Eglin Pkwy one would find Shalimar
Elementary School just off to the right. Further north of the school is Eglin Air Force Base, or Eglin ,
as it is commonly referred to. People coming from and going to Eglin pass through this intersection.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there were 499
pedestrian fatalities in 2011, and in 2015 that number had increased to 632, an approximately 27%
increase in fatalities. With that being said, traffic regulation should be a priority. Traffic laws are great
advocates for road safety, but a law cannot enforce itself nor can it keep everybody safe. That is why
the use of traffic and road signs is important: they enforce and they protect. For instance, it is a
generally known that you cannot exceed the speed limit of twenty miles per hour inside a school zone;
however, most people wouldn t know that they were in a school zone if there hadn t been a sign that
indicated an entrance into a school zone. In addition, while the majority of drivers are aware that a
right turn on red is legal unless otherwise prohibited, many of them wouldn t know the requirements
for a legal right turn are, as stated under Florida Statute

Student s Performance as Cause Effect Phenomena: A Multilevel Approach
Introduction:
Education plays a vital role in the human and country development at all stages. There are key
determinants that affect the education level which ultimately translate into human and country s
development. Quality education ensures the achievement of knowledge and required skills that enable
individuals to enhance the productivity and improve their living standard and access to basic needs.
This increase in productivity further translate towards new sources of earning which also further
enhances the economic growth of a country (Saxton, 2000). Student performance is a key component
of quality education that result in better outputs in the long run. Student intellectual performance
measurement has received substantial consideration in previous research literature, it is a challenging
aspects of academic literature. Student performance are affected by many factors including social,
mental, economic, environmental and personal factors. These factors strongly influence on the student
intellectual performance, but these factors vary from person to person and country to country.
During the last decade in Pakistan, the enrollment at primary, secondary and higher level has been

Essay On Bunny
Scooter was the first pet of my very own besides having a few pet fish. I remember walking into the
small pet store in Forest Grove and making our way to the back There a cage sat, my mom and I both
looked at each other and gushed about the cuteness in the cage. Inside, were about 5 rabbits that were
going crazy, bouncing off the walls of the two story metal cage. My eyes instantly fell on the two
bunnies that were a honey brown color. The other bunnies were white with black spots all over but the
brown ones took my interest. I had a perfect fantasy planned out, the golden brown rabbit with floppy
ears will be mine and I ll name her Bunbun. This was in my mind the vision of a perfect little bunny.
After relentless bagging and a few tears, my parents agreed to let me have a bunny. To this day, I still
remember how excited I was. My mom and I entered the pet store and I immediately ran to the back
towards the cage. There was a single brown bunny left. My mom went up to the clerk and asked to put
a hold on the last brown bunny. We had to get all the supplies and a cage before we could just bring
her home. After buying everything that was necessary and more, we returned to the pet store. I
remember clearly how much the bunny cost, only $35 dollars. The clerk walked to the cage with a
cardboard carrier. As he opened the cage, the little brown rabbit ran up to the second floor and stood
up tall. I grinned widely walking out of that pet store carrying the carrier. I could feel

Camping At Devils Lake
The vibrant greens, the hastening winds through the trees, the mosquitoes biting where mosquito spray
is lacking, and the raccoons stealing the last box of lucky charms, these are some of the joys
experienced in the great outdoors. The outdoors is one of my favorite get away locations. From before
my adolescence to this day, I am an outdoorsman: From camping at Devils Lake, to canoeing the
Canadian Boundary Waters, and even sailing the Florida Keys. Camping is enjoyable for me because
it is a place of freedom, a place of relaxation, and a place where I can create memories with my family
and friends. The secluded outdoors, away from cities, is a place broken away from the chains of
society. Though campgrounds still have rules, the rules instituted our quite lax in both definition and
enforcement. People can often do a lot more in a campground or in nature reserves than in cities or
even towns. A minor example of this would be the use of bicycles, in a city bicycles need to ride in the
bike lane on the right side of the road, however in a campground you can ride the bike on the road or
take it off road onto the trails and explore. Though most campgrounds have rules on where you can
ride your bike, the rules are not very strict nor are they very enforced. Since there is only a minute
amount of people you encounter while camping it also allows you the freedom of doing whatever you
want without the judgmental eyes of society laying upon you. I enjoy the lack of judgment

Three Visual Artists of the 1960s
Three Visual Artists of the 1960s: Rockwell, O Keefe, and Stella Objective The objective of this study
is to post the names of three visual artists such as painters and sculptors that were the most influential
during the 1960. After identifying the visual artists, a URL will be posted so that the reader can link up
to review their work. Finally, a brief commentary will be offered on each of the artists in regards to
why they are so influential. Introduction The 1960s is reported as a time of tremendous variety,
creativity, and aesthetic rebellion in visual art. (Rielly, 2003, p. 231) Norman Rockwell, Frank Stella,
and Georgia O Keefe were three notable visual artists of the 1960s decade. I. Norman Rockwell
Norman Rockwell is most famous for his Saturday Evening Post covers in which he captured the
innocence of a small town American that had only partly existed. (Rielly, 2003, p.232) Some of
Rockwell s works include a little boy seated at a drugstore soda fountain bar with a policeman, and a
young boy pulling down his trousers preparing for the doctor to give him a shot. Rockwell s Saturday

Juxtaposition In Ender s Game
In Ender s Game it is never entirely clear who is a friend and who is an enemy. Graff, Anderson, and
Rackham, who are undoubtedly Ender s friends, appear to him as enemies and are forced to do so.
Peter attempts to befriend Valentine merely to get what he wants, but she never forgets that he is not a
real friend. Petra Arkanian and Dink Meeker are always Ender s friends, but at times he is uncertain of
where they stand. But by far the most striking juxtaposition occurs with the buggers. The only enemy
that Ender truly fears, the buggers in the end prove to be friendly. The earth s greatest enemy, the alien
race it was at war with, turns out not to have been intentionally hostile. The author constantly proves

Pressure Ulcers As A Hospital
Upon admission to a hospital, a patient may be at risk for numerous hospital acquired conditions.
Pressure ulcers, also known as pressure sores or bed sores , are a type of hospital acquired condition
that may develop during a hospital admission if proper risk assessment is not performed by a
registered nurse (RN). Pressure ulcers form over bony prominences, such as the back, heel, ischium,
sacrum, and elbow, when circulation of these prominences is impaired (Jarvis, 2012). Pressure ulcers
may develop when a person is confined to a bed or immobilized, which impedes proper delivery of
oxygen and nutrients to the skin resulting in cell death (Jarvis, 2012). Pressure ulcers are divided into
four stages. In stage I, a nonblanchable redness of intact skin appears that does not disappear for 24
hours after pressure is relieved. In stage II, there is partial thickness erosion of the epidermis or the
dermis layer of the skin. Full thickness pressure ulcers are a stage III ulcer, which extend into
subcutaneous tissue. Lastly, stage IV pressure ulcers involve all skin layers and may expose muscle,
tendon or bone. Pressure ulcers can be prevented if risk assessment is performed and at risk
individuals are identified (DeLaune Ladner, 2011). Risk assessment scales, such as the Braden Scale
and Norton Scale, are used to determine the likelihood of skin breakdown in a patient. The Braden
Scale is divided into six categories that help predict pressure sore risk and each category is

Describe The Story Of Nabucco
Before Verdi wrote his opera, the story of Nabucco appeared on the Italian stage for the first time in
1819. Nabucco was a play by Florentine dramatist Giovanni Battista Niccolini. In its published
edition, Niccolini`s play carried a complex key for the understanding the political allusion in the work.
The second story of Nabucco again appeared on the Italian stage, this time in the form of five act
ballet written by Antonio Cortesi and performed at La Scala in 1838. The work was written and
performed for the Coronation Season at La Scala. Commemorating the crowning of Austrian Emperor
Ferdinand as King of Lombardy and Venetia, an event that marked the high point of Austrian
domination in Italy. Temistocle Solera appears to have based his libretto to this scenario, and it was
with its scenery and costume that Marelli first staged Verdi`s opera.
The opera was based on a plot taken from the Old Testament of the Bible, Daniel 4:29 33, the story of
Zechariach and the Jews suppressed by Babylon s King Nebuchadnezzar whose name for purposes of
song is reduced to Nabucco and his resentful daughter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Viewed on a more complex level, the symbolism of Nabucco offers an intricate relationship between
the characters and political events. In this view, King Nabucodonosor might represent Napoleon, and
his two daughters, one legitimate, symbolizing Italy, and another illegitimate Austria. The Babylonian
religion and the high priest of Baal, ironically represent the Pope and the Catholic Church. The
parallels between the opera`s subject matter and Italy`s situation in 1840s are easy to discern: the
opera was about a chosen nation dreaming of freedom from foreign domination, the Hebrews slaves
represented the Italians struggling against their Austrian

Glory In Oedipus At Colonus
In the last of his three Theban plays, Oedipus at Colonus, Sophocles examines the power relationship
and hierarchy between humans and gods, depicting and later asserting the control that gods have over
the fates of humans. Through the attempts and eventual failure of Oedipus to overthrow his
predestined fate to marry his mother and kill his father before the events of Oedipus at Colonus,
Sophocles establishes that humans have limited, if any, control over their lives, dictated by the higher
power of the gods. Thus, since life is limited, the impact and legacy of human life becomes
increasingly more significant. Evident in his consistent pursuit of glory and being remembered by
people even after falling from his former glory as king, Oedipus strives to establish a purpose and
meaning to his life in spite of the predetermined fate that the gods forced upon him. Glory, according
to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is defined as praise, honor, or distinction extended by common
consent. The aspect of glory that Oedipus seeks is the distinction or acknowledgement of his greatness
by the people as a whole, thus leaving an impactful legacy. Despite the fact that the length and fate of
one s life is predetermined by a power higher than oneself, the ultimate purpose of human life is to
leave behind a lasting impression on the world. Oedipus self reflection on his fall from glory and fame
serves to illustrate the consistently unfortunate fate that many mortals are subject to. Before

Wild Yeast Research Paper
I thought this story idea might pique your interest.
Due to revelations about the nature of wild yeast, curious brewers have a new ingredient to explore. In
the near future, yeast obtained from wasp guts might make the leap from the lab bench to the beer hall.
Nut
The next time you reach for a newspaper to squash a reviled bug, think about this: wasps and other
insects do a lot more for humans than ruin our picnics. Insects also provide essential environmental
services, such as, pollinating crops, and in the coming years, stinging insects might serve as the
catalyst for new styles of beer. For beer nerds, it would be an opportunity to try something new, while

Typically, they re loath to introduce wild strains of yeast to their product, because they tend to impart
funky off putting flavors. So when Sebastian Ibarra, an entomologist and instructor at Simon Fraser
University, approached the chief brewer Condrad Gsomer at BrassNeck Brewery with news that his
lab partners had isolated a beneficial strain of wild yeast found in wasp intestines, Gsomer became
intrigued.
After all, Humans have experimented with fermentation for thousands of years, and it may be our
greatest feat since the taming of fire. The discovery of yeast in wasp guts also speaks volumes about
the appeal of alcohol to a broad cross section of the animal kingdom, ranging from fig wasps to
humans clinking beer steins.
The question is, can wild yeast extracted from wasp guts work also wonders for beer and where does
that lead? At least two research labs based in North America are investigating this phenomena and
both teams are willing to discuss their forays into flavor with wild yeast at the helm.

The Ins and Outs of Cancer Essay
The Ins and Outs of Cancer
Cancer has affected the lives of each and every one of us alive today. Many people have know
someone with cancer, yet even those who haven t have been bombarded with constant reminders of its
terrible threat. Although cancer is often referred to as a single condition, it actually consists of more
than 100 different diseases, all characterized by the uncontrolled growth, reproduction, and spread of
abnormal body cells. All of these diseases are individually unique, yet the basic processes that produce
cancers are very similar (Ruddon, 1995). The human body consists of over 30 trillion cells, living in a
complex, interdependent harmony. They regulate each other s proliferation; normal cells reproduce ...

Proto oncogenes induce cell growth and reproduction, while tumor suppressor genes inhibit it.
Together, they carefully control the proliferation of cells. However, if a proto oncogene is mutated, it
can become a carcinogenic oncogene, driving excessive multiplication. Tumor suppressor genes, on
the other hand, contribute to cancer when they are inactivated by mutation (Ruddon, 1995).
Luckily, cancerous tumors are not caused by one little mutation in one cell they are caused by multiple
mutations in a number of the cell s growth controlling genes. The number of mutations necessary can
be as low as two or quite high, depending on the specific type of cancer. Generally, these mutations
occur either from mistakes during cell reproduction, or due to DNA damage caused by carcinogens
such as tobacco, certain poisons, and UV rays. So, why don t we all get cancer from these things right
away? Consider that one of your cells is damaged by poison and becomes mutated. In order for this
cell to turn into a cancer cell, the rest of the necessary mutations must also occur in this very same
cell. This in itself, is fairly unlikely. It normally takes decades for an incipient tumor to collect all the
mutations required for it s malignant growth, which explains why the average age for cancer diagnosis
is 67 (Ruddon, 1995). Why, then, do some individuals

The Sentence Task Shown by Michelle Obama and the North...
Imagine books are buildings, then sentences are the very foundation of them. For long, sentences has
been the most essential way to exchange information, to express feelings and to share values and
thoughts. The art of rhetoric is applied in the sentences to carry out messages more efficiently. During
my research process, I have to commit that as a foreign language speaker, I found it really hard at first.
Inspired by the history of rhetoric, I started searching for speeches and eventually I managed to find
two interesting sentences.
Both sentences come from two outstanding women who have grown up with different education and
culture background. One of them, Mrs. Obama, first lady of the United States, is quite familiar to us.
Michelle Obama was born into an ordinary family in Chicago, brought up by her stay at home mother
and plumber father. She worked hard and graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law
School.Later on she became a well known attorney.(The National First Ladies Library,2013) In
contrast to the First Lady, the other speaker, Hyeonseo Lee, does not bear such fame. She actually has
been a North Korean refugee since her childhood. Born in North Korea, Hyeonseo Lee left for China
in 1997 during a serious famine occurred in North Korea. She now lives in South Korea, as an activist
for her fellow refugees.(TED,2013) Given the brief biography of both ladies with significant

Human Rights Violations of China s One Child Policy Essay
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to highlight to what extent government policy has violated the human
rights of women in China. Government policy is important to the organization of countries.
Government policies work to aid in political, economic, and social issues that can become detrimental
to the function of a country. Flourishing government policies prove to be efficient and effective when
implementation is deemed successful. The One Child Policy proved to be successful in reducing
population size. As past policy rules have now been eased, family planning officials in the region have
begun drafting less strict family planning protocols. Though it has proved to be a successful policy in
curbing population growth, the One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the years following, population in the country began to increase yet again at rapid rates . This
increase came to be the forecaster for the need of antinatalist policy.
In the last few years that China s population experienced huge increases and decreases in population
size, Chinese governments provided family planning assistance for women and children . Not until the
population increased during the early 1960 s did government officials begin to view the threat such a
massive population would have on the future of the country. In 1979 China began to implement a
family planning policy in response to social and economic troubles that plagued the country due to the
rapid population growth as death rates decreased and birth rates continued to soar. The primary
objective of this policy was to decrease procreation in the region by encouraging individuals to
prolong engagements, limiting reproduction, and the promotion of an idealistic one child family.
Government officials enforced policy regulations by imposing taxes on those who challenged the new
policy and financial incentives for those who obeyed. Since its implementation, the One Child Policy
has dominated fertility rates as well as alleviating the increase in global population. China s policy
proved to be an idealistic approach at preventing population increase by restricting the reproductive
rights

Persuasive Essay On Feminism
Feminism has been around for many centuries, it ll be around for more years to come. Women want to
be seen equal to men, but that can t happen because most men think it s okay the way most women are
treated. Feminist want equality, most feminist don t think females is the admirable sex. On the other
hand most feminist do think females are the superior sex, they sometimes take the role of being a
feminist to a whole new level. Some question whether only girls are allowed to be feminist, this isn t
true. If feminists want equality they can t turn down a someone because of their gender. We need to
show the world the true meaning of feminism, they think what they see on the news is the true
feminist. Feminism isn t thinking females are better than men, we need to show that to the world.
Although women aren t treated the same as men, feminist are working hard for gender equality.
Feminism has gone back to the 1792, the Vindication of Women s Rights, was one of the first feminist
movement. The true question is what is feminism? Feminism is the want of women s rights and
equality of sexes. Feminist want the equality for both genders, no gender is superior to the other.
Women go through many things everyday, for instance women everyday are being sexually harassed.
The women s accounts portray James Toback as a man who, for decades, sexually harassed women he
hired, women looking for work and women he just saw on the street (Whipp, Glenn Los Angeles

simply believe women can t do the same as they can. Women should only stick with household duties,

The Gothic genre is described as formulaic and one of the key features is a tyrannical male who abuses his power to assert his dominance over a perceived futile women. Bram Stoker s Dracula was written in time where women started to want more equal rights and opportunities. For example, in the same year Dracula was published (1897), Millicent Fawcett founded The National Union of Women s Suffrage . Stoker presents Lucy in a way that would be shocking and unacceptable for a Victorian reader. Stoker insinuates that Lucy is fatherless because Stoker only refers to her father once in the book and it is in the past tense, Lucy s father, had the same habit he would get up in the night and dress himself , even if Lucy s father is alive it is clear that he has had minimal involvement and impact on Lucy s life. Stoker could be suggesting that Lucy s lack of a patriarch has meant that she has a desire and craving for one leading her to finding one where ever she could find it. When Dracula is removing blood from Lucy she is described as half reclining Stokers use of this word suggests that Dracula is not forcing her or even restraining her, it implies that she is accepting what is taking place. Stoker goes as far as to imply that Lucy is enjoy the experience, Her lips were parted... heavy gasps , this is very sexually suggestive of a post climatic moment. Furthermore, social and political thought suggests that spaces of remembrance encourage understanding, thought and reflection. Thus, it is thought that memory holds vast opportunities to mend the of frailty of human affairs. Good deeds, when reified into memories can be held up to be replicated, or possibly surpassed in the future. Yet the process of memorialisation is often contested, for the formation of memory can only occur in retrospect on behalf of someone or something. Public commemoration is a difficult process, as it simplifies and condenses complex stories at the cost of omitting others. Thus, spaces of remembrance can become spaces of contestation, and memory entails political risk. Memory presents a crucial tension in the network of ideas and action, which are both public and private. It is not only central to improving the frailty of human affairs, it is a dauntingly complex process weaved with intrinsically personal reflections, which, leads us to the fundamental paradox of memory. Memory is crucial to the public realm, but it originates within. Furthermore, the modern age multiplies spaces of remembrance presenting an unfettered opportunity to improve the frailty of human affairs. Data Measured On The Control Condition Essay Results Compared to the control condition, a significant decrease in the level of NRS pain scores was related to the hypnotic hypoalgesia condition (2.9+/ 0.4, P 0.0001) compared to the control condition (5.4+/ 0.3). During all three experimental conditions, the NRS scores were reported as a mean and compared using an analysis of variance (ANOVA). The analyses of the NRS is a collection of quantitative data measured on an interval obtained from the participants throughout the duration of the experiment (Abrahamsen et al., 2010). The areas of the brain associated with the pain matrix, the right posterior insula and the primary somatosensory cortex, showed a significant increase in activation in response to the control condition during the painful pin prick stimulus compared to no painful stimulus. There was also a significant increase in activation of the right posterior middle temporal gyrus, the middle frontal gyrus, the left supramarginal gyrus, and the precentral gyrus. A portion of the posterior insula was significantly activated during the hypnotic hypoalgesia condition with the painful prick stimuli. The painful prick stimulation in the hypnotic hyperalgesia condition showed an increase in the activation of the inferior parietal lobule, the precentral gyrus, and the posterior insula (Abrahamsen et al., 2010). Pressure ulcers, also known as pressure sores or bed sores , are a type of hospital acquired condition that may develop during a hospital admission if proper risk assessment is not performed by a registered nurse (RN). Pressure ulcers form over bony prominences, such as the back, heel, ischium, sacrum, and elbow, when circulation of these prominences is impaired (Jarvis, 2012). Pressure ulcers may develop when a person is confined to a bed or immobilized, which impedes proper delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the skin resulting in cell death (Jarvis, 2012). Pressure ulcers are divided into four stages. In stage I, a nonblanchable redness of intact skin appears that does not disappear for 24 hours after pressure is relieved. In stage II, there is partial thickness erosion of the epidermis or the dermis layer of the skin. Full thickness pressure ulcers are a stage III ulcer, which extend into subcutaneous tissue. Lastly, stage IV pressure ulcers involve all skin layers and may expose muscle, tendon or bone. Pressure ulcers can be prevented if risk assessment is performed and at risk individuals are identified (DeLaune Ladner, 2011). Nabucco was a play by Florentine dramatist Giovanni Battista Niccolini. In its published edition, Niccolini`s play carried a complex key for the understanding the political allusion in the work. • 29. Glory In Oedipus At Colonus In the last of his three Theban plays, Oedipus at Colonus, Sophocles examines the power relationship and hierarchy between humans and gods, depicting and later asserting the control that gods have over the fates of humans. Through the attempts and eventual failure of Oedipus to overthrow his predestined fate to marry his mother and kill his father before the events of Oedipus at Colonus, Sophocles establishes that humans have limited, if any, control over their lives, dictated by the higher power of the gods. Thus, since life is limited, the impact and legacy of human life becomes increasingly more significant. Evident in his consistent pursuit of glory and being remembered by people even after falling from his former glory as king, Oedipus strives to establish a purpose and meaning to his life in spite of the predetermined fate that the gods forced upon him. Glory, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is defined as praise, honor, or distinction extended by common consent. The aspect of glory that Oedipus seeks is the distinction or acknowledgement of his greatness by the people as a whole, thus leaving an impactful legacy. Despite the fact that the length and fate of one s life is predetermined by a power higher than oneself, the ultimate purpose of human life is to leave behind a lasting impression on the world. Insects also provide essential environmental services, such as, pollinating crops, and in the coming years, stinging insects might serve as the catalyst for new styles of beer. For beer nerds, it would be an opportunity to try something new, while presenting brewers with the chance to add a new dimension of their ancient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Typically, they re loath to introduce wild strains of yeast to their product, because they tend to impart funky off putting flavors. So when Sebastian Ibarra, an entomologist and instructor at Simon Fraser University, approached the chief brewer Condrad Gsomer at BrassNeck Brewery with news that his lab partners had isolated a beneficial strain of wild yeast found in wasp intestines, Gsomer became intrigued. After all, Humans have experimented with fermentation for thousands of years, and it may be our greatest feat since the taming of fire. The discovery of yeast in wasp guts also speaks volumes about the appeal of alcohol to a broad cross section of the animal kingdom, ranging from fig wasps to humans clinking beer steins. The question is, can wild yeast extracted from wasp guts work also wonders for beer and where does that lead? At least two research labs based in North America are investigating this phenomena and both teams are willing to discuss their forays into flavor with wild yeast at the helm. • 31. The Ins and Outs of Cancer Essay The Ins and Outs of Cancer Cancer has affected the lives of each and every one of us alive today. Many people have know someone with cancer, yet even those who haven t have been bombarded with constant reminders of its terrible threat. Although cancer is often referred to as a single condition, it actually consists of more than 100 different diseases, all characterized by the uncontrolled growth, reproduction, and spread of abnormal body cells. All of these diseases are individually unique, yet the basic processes that produce cancers are very similar (Ruddon, 1995). The human body consists of over 30 trillion cells, living in a complex, interdependent harmony. They regulate each other s proliferation; normal cells reproduce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Proto oncogenes induce cell growth and reproduction, while tumor suppressor genes inhibit it. Together, they carefully control the proliferation of cells. However, if a proto oncogene is mutated, it can become a carcinogenic oncogene, driving excessive multiplication. Tumor suppressor genes, on the other hand, contribute to cancer when they are inactivated by mutation (Ruddon, 1995). Luckily, cancerous tumors are not caused by one little mutation in one cell they are caused by multiple mutations in a number of the cell s growth controlling genes. The number of mutations necessary can be as low as two or quite high, depending on the specific type of cancer. Generally, these mutations occur either from mistakes during cell reproduction, or due to DNA damage caused by carcinogens such as tobacco, certain poisons, and UV rays. So, why don t we all get cancer from these things right away? Consider that one of your cells is damaged by poison and becomes mutated. In order for this cell to turn into a cancer cell, the rest of the necessary mutations must also occur in this very same cell. This in itself, is fairly unlikely. It normally takes decades for an incipient tumor to collect all the mutations required for it s malignant growth, which explains why the average age for cancer diagnosis is 67 (Ruddon, 1995). Why, then, do some individuals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Sentence Task Shown by Michelle Obama and the North... Imagine books are buildings, then sentences are the very foundation of them. For long, sentences has been the most essential way to exchange information, to express feelings and to share values and thoughts. The art of rhetoric is applied in the sentences to carry out messages more efficiently. During my research process, I have to commit that as a foreign language speaker, I found it really hard at first. Inspired by the history of rhetoric, I started searching for speeches and eventually I managed to find two interesting sentences. Both sentences come from two outstanding women who have grown up with different education and culture background. One of them, Mrs. Obama, first lady of the United States, is quite familiar to us. Michelle Obama was born into an ordinary family in Chicago, brought up by her stay at home mother and plumber father. She worked hard and graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School.Later on she became a well known attorney.(The National First Ladies Library,2013) In contrast to the First Lady, the other speaker, Hyeonseo Lee, does not bear such fame. She actually has been a North Korean refugee since her childhood. Born in North Korea, Hyeonseo Lee left for China in 1997 during a serious famine occurred in North Korea. She now lives in South Korea, as an activist for her fellow refugees.(TED,2013) Given the brief biography of both ladies with significant difference, it is easier for us to understand what exact ideas they try to ... When Zach stole these, Hannah had needed them the most because this was when she started to think about suicide. Because of this, Zach became Hannah s seventh reason why. Not until the population increased during the early 1960 s did government officials begin to view the threat such a massive population would have on the future of the country. In 1979 China began to implement a family planning policy in response to social and economic troubles that plagued the country due to the rapid population growth as death rates decreased and birth rates continued to soar. The primary objective of this policy was to decrease procreation in the region by encouraging individuals to prolong engagements, limiting reproduction, and the promotion of an idealistic one child family. Government officials enforced policy regulations by imposing taxes on those who challenged the new policy and financial incentives for those who obeyed. Since its implementation, the One Child Policy has dominated fertility rates as well as alleviating the increase in global population.
