Mandatory Sentencing Laws For Repeat Offenders
In the 1990s, states began to execute mandatory sentencing laws for repeat offenders. This
statute became known as three strike laws . The three strikes law increases prison sentence for
people convicted of a felony. If you have two or more violent crimes or serious felonies, it limits
the ability that offenders have to receive a punishment other than life sentencing. By 2003 over
half of the states and federal government had enacted the three strike laws . The expectation
behind it was to get career criminals off the street for the good of the public. However, the laws
have their connoisseurs who charge sentences that are often excessive to the crimes committed and
that incarcerate of three strike inmates for 25 years to life. Nevertheless, the US Supreme Court
has upheld three strike laws and had rejected the fact that they amount to cruel and unusual
punishment. The state of Washington passed the first three strikes law in 1993. Anyone convicted
of three separate violent felonies must be sentenced to life in prison without a chance for parole.
Then on March 8th, 1994, California followed by enacting the law that sanctioned a sentence of
25 years to life for a third felony conviction. Contrary to Washington, the California law counts
nonviolent felonies, such as burglary and theft as strike offences; by 2001, over 50,000 criminals
had been penalized under the new law, far more than any other state, with almost a quarter of the
prisoners facing a minimum of 25 years

So for my project I did honduras and here are some basic facts about honduras. Honduras is a
Central American country with Caribbean Sea coastlines to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the
south. In the tropical rainforest near Guatemala, the ancient Mayan ceremonial site CopГЎn has
stone carved hieroglyphics and stelae, tall stone monuments. In the CaribbeanSea are the Bay

Culturally Relevant Services
In this paper, I will be exploring and explaining about the culture that I am studying in
order to present it to my classmates for Miss Dennette Derezotes Social Work 345 class. I will
try to give my classmates a better understanding about the way this culture lives, in what is to
them a new land. Undocumented immigrants is the culture that I chose to write about in my
paper. When I use the term undocumented immigrants, I am referring to all those that are living
in the United States with no legal documentation. Foreign born persons that have no legal right
to be in or remain in the United States. Undocumented immigrants consist of people from

Sternberg and Barry clearly helped us to understand that this is not true,
woman from poor countries migrate to prosperous countries (often illegally) and take jobs that
local citizens reject as to menial or low paying (Sternberg and Barry, 2011, Pg. 65). The
undocumented immigrant might have to make a sacrifice and leave their family behind in their
country when making the journey to the United States. But there are several things that cannot be
left behind no matter where he or she goes to. One of those many things is their cultural tradition.
For many, going to church and praying to God is an important tradition passed down from
generation to generation. In Detained and Deported, Mariana is a great example of this tradition.
Regan describes her as a devout Christian who had very little time to herself between school,
work and church (Regan, 2015, p.46). When she was detained she started singing hymns and
praying to her God (Regan, 2015, p.247). When in custody, she did not forget about her tradition
and got others involved in prayers (Regan, 2015, p.59). She always found time to pray to her
God. Many undocumented immigrants, before crossing over to the United Sates, made a quick
stop their church and get a cross figure or an amulet and have the priest or father bless it for

Click-Bait Definition
Although all the writers have their own thoughts, reasoning and definition of click bait, they still
share the common ground of click bait being a thing of negativity amongst people. All four
articles really come together on one thing, being that click bait exists but really break apart when
it comes to the little details and opinions regarding the debate. Hughes article reports that like most
people her age, she is getting her news media from mobile devices that come from Twitter or
Facebook. She takes several things into account when picking a relevant article, like: if the source
is liable, if the conversation seems legit and most importantly the headlines. Hughes claims that

He emphasizes that as the amount of views started becoming more respected, people started trying
to cheat the system. But views don t track if someone watched or read a whole story, they only
track how many people clicked into the link. So of course the creators took advantage of that and
started creating juicy headlines that would just result in a click, or view also known as click bait .
He argues that even though the website has all the extra views, it still isn t going to be trusted
by viewers, resulting in them not returning back to that website. Mark s suggested that with our
attention constantly shifting every three minutes because of smart phones and the internet we
are drawn to click bait. As Mark reports, click bait has been around in newspaper articles from the
19th century and with click bait combined with hypermedia it leads us down cognitive paths,
resulting in us not being able to find our way back to the main article. On the census of quality,
Berger and Mark s seem to come to an agreement. Berger states that click bait is bad because it
over promises and under delivers. It leads us to believe that we are clicking into something that is
going to be worth it, but then we end up disappointed, losing trust and not returning back. Mark
states that click bait is an attention distraction that can lead to higher stress, a bad mood and lower

Hey Biz,
As you can tell this email is over 140 characters. My apologizes in advance.
I m about to enter my junior year at Vanderbilt University in Nashville and I don t really have any

1.Opportunity can totally be manufactured: I have learned this opportunity at numerous points in
my life, however, the opportunity that stands out the most for me is when I got the New York
Times (NYT) to give me a blog on their website. Every year, the NYT used to select 8 students
from around the world to blog for them during their college search. I read this blog series for a
number of years and when I became a high school senior, I decided that I wanted to try to be one
of the students selected. However, I realized that the NYT would never reach out to my small
underfunded NYC public school so I reached out to them. I told them about the perspective that I

interview. The night before the interview I learned a slew of technical terms like Java, Python,
Syntax Error etc. and read an online article on interviews. The article said that according to a
study you were more likely to get a job if you mention the interviewer s name at least three times.
When it came time to interview, I threw out all my coding buzzwords, tried to keep up with the
coding problem, and kept repeating my interviewer s name. I spent that summer at Google s

The Theme Of Masculinity In The Short Happy Life Of Ernest...
How can Hemingway make the themes in the books based on his experiences and thoughts?
Hemingway writes the books based on his experiences and thoughts like masculinity from a
character to showing his self confidence, death from alcohol which is showing the self injury,
fatalistic heroism like the character, Schatz from the book, A Day s Wait and nature from
mountain and safari (Africa) in The Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Short Happy Life of Francis
Macomberor other books. Hemingway puts the meaningful themes and symbols through his
experience and thoughts.
There are major important themes in Hemingway s books. First, men and masculinity is a main
theme that comes from Hemingway s experiences. Hemingway s heroes are often outdoorsmen or

In this research paper, I am going to show the various aspects of the theme of death in the short story
. Before the short story begins, Hemingway simply tells the story of a leopard s skeleton that is
said to lie at a high altitude on the slope of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is up to the reader to decide
how to relate this tale to the rest of the short story, but it is obvious at this point that death will
play an important role in the story. The main storyline develops around the deadly infection of
Harry s leg after suffering from a thorn scratch. He talks about death in the very first sentence of
the short story, saying The marvelous thing is that it s painless, that s how you know when it
starts (Hemingway 4). As the story develops, Harry frequently mentions his wish to die or thee
way he feels that death is very close now: You can shoot me. You re a good shot now
(Hemingway 4). and I don t want to move, there is no sense in moving now except to make it
easier for you (Hemingway 8) and Can t you let a man die as comfortably as he can without
calling him names? (Hemingway 8) and Don t be silly. I m dying now (Hemingway 8). It
sounds as if Harry is giving up, not necessarily because he is a coward, even though his wife calls
him that, but more because he feels that it is more comfortable for him at this point to lay down
and die instead of waiting for a truck or airplane that will probably never arrive: I

Hamlet Character Essay
The Troubled Prince: An Analysis of Hamlet
To be, or not to be: That is the question (3.1.58). This is probably the most famous quote in all of
Shakespearean literature and was uttered by the main character, Hamlet, of the play Hamlet written
by Shakespeare. It demonstrates his instability and suicidal thoughts. Throughout the play he comes
off as a very unpredictable and complex character. He makes many rash decisions, but at the same
time often takes a lot of time to contemplate many of his choices. Through Hamlet s language and
voice, we can examine what type of character Shakespeare created. Hamlet acts differently towards
people in contrast to his actual thoughts, which are projected through his soliloquies. Due to the
insanity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in the rest of the soliloquy he uses metaphors to say perhaps he should, take arms
against a sea of trouble instead of killing himself (3.1.65). Perhaps the reason for lack of imagery
to describe a terrible thing such as suicide is his insanity and indecisiveness. Though he plays
with the idea of suicide, he is also fearful of it and cannot fully describe it with his normal
enthusiastic imagery. In the soliloquy where he envisions himself murdering Claudius, Hamlet s
insanity is the most apparent. This time he again uses simile to describe how his father was as
flush as May in his sins when Cladius killed the King (3.3.82). He also goes on to envision the
murder and how he will kill Claudius, when he is sleeping, or gambling or in the incestuous
pleasure of his bed (3.3.91). Hamlet is obsessing over murdering Claudius, but at the same time
procrastinating the murder because he wants it to be at the perfect time, such as when Claudius is
most sinful. This procrastination is slowly driving him insane as shown in this soliloquy. In his
soliloquies Hamlet frequently associates metaphors and similes and it is important to realize the
progression of Hamlet s instability as well as his surprising actions and complex thoughts presented
through these soliloquies. The manner in which Hamlet conveys himself and his emotions to other
people help show another dimension of his character his little trust in

The Historical Basis Of Heart Of Darkness
The historical basis of Heart of Darkness is the overtaking of the Congo by King Leopold II of
Belgium. Leopold subjugated the indigenous people of the Congo in order to use them as slaves
in his quest for rubber and ivory, much like that of the Company who said they were helping the
natives while searching for ivory and Kurtz who took advantage of the peoples beliefs to have
them procure the ivory for him.
In an attempt to attain colonies for Belgium, Leopold acquired a colony of his own as a private
citizen. Leopold was able to establish a private holding company known as the Association
Internationale Africaine . This company was publically intended to be an international scientific
and philanthropic association; however under the guise of this company Leopold hired a Henry
Morton Stanley to acquire a colony in the Congo. Stanley was able to gain the land by deceiving
the chiefs into signing land deal when they thought they were signing friendship treaties. This
colony would be known as the Congo Free State after the Berlin Conference in 1884 1885 when
the representatives of 14 European countries as well as the United States recognized Leopold s
claim to most of the land that he had acquired. When everything was said and done the Congo
Free State was 905,000 square miles, 76 times larger than Belgium. Leopold had total control over
an area 76 times larger than the country he ruled, giving him the ability and the power to do
whatever he wished. Though Leopold privately

The Pros And Cons Of Executive Orders
Executive order is a rule or order issued by the president to an executive branch of the government
and having the force of law. Executive Order (EOs) were used since President George Washington
but were not mandated to be publicly released until 1900. To date, there have been thirteen thousand
eight hundred and seven executive orders. Many argue that these orders are unconstitutional as it
gives one person authority to make changes without consequences and without the consent of
Congress. The term executive order is not a principle found within the Constitution. EO is derived
from Article II, Section I of the Constitution in which it states, the executive Power shall be vested
in a President of the United Statesof America . The term executive power was never defined,
leaving it open to the interpretation of each president. That statement coupled with Article II,
Section III he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed has been the backbone of how
presidents have been able to create these orders.
It is equally important to note that executive orders are not the only way a president can exercise
his authority. His other vehicles are presidential memorandums, actions or proclamations. As with
executive orders, memorandums, actions and proclamations aren t defined within the U.S.
Constitution and used at the discretion of each president. There is no legal difference between the
four actions but executive orders have to be numbered and published with

Logical Fallacies In The Second Commercial
The first two commercials represent logical fallacies as they are subjective appeals. The Lincoln
commercial displays a famous man, admired by many, driving a Lincoln while talking about his
positive opinion of the Lincoln. The video shares no statistical evidence to prove Lincoln
manufactures better cars than other brands. The logical fallacy behind the commercial is that an
example set by a successful person should be followed despite the lack of individuality in making
a decision based on someone else s. The second commercial was a television advertisementin which
Dish Network compared one or multiple anonymous networks to pigs, implying they overcharge.
Although, the commercial never provided support for Dish Network to present its benefits over
other companies. Quality service, channels, packages, and other aspects of a television
subscription were not discussed to explain why one company is worse than the other. The
commercial did not discuss whether Dish Network s prices were better than the company they
represented as a pig. The logical fallacy in the second commercial is an ad hominem because it was
offensive without significant reason.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A slippery slope is an assumption that if one action is executed then there will be a consequence
and that a different action should be taken. In the commercial, DIRECTV asserts that if someone

never be able to return home. The commercial s argument is that a customer with DIRECTV will
never become a local fisherman with a swelled up face, meaning none of the previous things will
have happened. The logical fallacy associated with this video is that a person with cable will have
many unrealistic things happen that could ruin someone s life, while DIRECTV could prevent

It sends a message to the people that they live in a safe place. Which for many people that little
bit of reassurance is all they need to be happy. Nobody wants to live in a bad place, or a place
they feel is dangerous. Also, with expanding the role of the patrol officer, this is very beneficial
with today s economy. I never think you can put a price on protecting the people, but, the sad
reality is that in today s economic times, we have to. To hire a new recruit comes a price, it is
just easier for the community of the patrol officers to be expected to do more. In most cases these
officers want to do more to solve the crimes to put that faith back into the community that crimes
will be resolved right away. Right when a crime happens, most people instantly become fearful that
it will happen again, so, they become on edge, and question that the police will be able to catch the
people that hurt them or robbed them. With crimes being solved right away, that puts the fear at
ease and lets them know they are safe and it will not continue to happen. I was reading ahead a
tad bit and came across theft that happens in banks,, and how those people are caught the same
day. For me, that instantly puts my mind at ease. Years ago, one of the buildings I was working in,

Peace Unreachable In Israel And Palestine
Peace Unreachable in Israel and Palestine
Peace in Israel and Palestine has been unreachable for a long time. They have been fighting since
the end of World War 1 when the British promise both these countries the same land. And still to
this day the two countries are fighting. These two countries haven t made peace in over 103 years
so I doubt they will anytime soon.
The war between Israel and Palestine started when the British promise both of them the same land.
This promise has caused many wars between Israel and Palestine making it almost impossible for
them to make peace again. This promise made by the British was called The Balfour Declaration,
made in November 1917 by the British Government. (If Americans Knew.) The Balfour Declaration

some of these war are major wars for example, the six day war which was a war that lasted six days.
In this war Israel won and gained control over the West Banks, the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula,
and the Golan Heights. By 1967 Israel controlled all of Palestine. (Crash Course, John Green) By
the late 1980s Palestine Launched its first intifada. This began with boycotts of Israeli products
and services and refusing to pay Israeli taxes. These boycotts also caused the the first suicide
bombing against Israel in 1993. (Course Hero s) Another example of a major war that made it
hard for the two countries to make peace again happened on March 11, 1978. Nearly a dozen
armed Palestinian terrorists landed their boats near a major coastal road in Israel. There they
hijacked a bus and sprayed gunfire inside and at passing vehicles, killing thirty seven civilians.
All of these wars have made it hard for the two countries to make peace, even mosts of the

Role of Food in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
The Bell Jar
Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar is rich with an array of motifs, all which serve to sustain the novel s
primary themes. A motif particularly prevalent within the first half of the novel involves food,
specifically Esther Greenwood s relationship with food. This peculiar relationship corroborates the
book s themes of Esther s continuous rebirthing rituals, and of her extreme dissatisfaction. The
interrelation with food functions in two distinct manners: literally and figuratively. This analysis
will concentrate on the figurative role of food in The Bell Jar, and how it denotes Esther s overall
state.
Early on in the novel, Esther establishes her attitude towards food: I m not sure why it is, but I love
food more than just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She describes this peculiar strategy, as seen in the Ladies Day luncheon, While we were standing
up behind our chairs listening to the welcome speech, I had bowed my head and secretly eyed the
position of the bowls of caviar (Plath 26). Esther demonstrates substantial control when dealing with
food, a control that is indubitably absent in her own life.
Perhaps the most memorable incident regarding food in The Bell Jar is the aforementioned Ladies
Day luncheon, which is reminiscent to Esther s rebirthing and purifying bath rituals. Esther gorges
herself during the banquet in attempts to satisfy her starvation, however this binge eventually leads
to purging. Caroline J. Smith notes in The Feeding of Young Women : Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar,
Mademoiselle Magazine, and the Domestic Ideal that purging seems to be the necessary and
inevitable result of [Esther s] disordered eating (16). The purging appears to emulate the same
rebirthing and purification effect Esther feels after a hot bath: I felt purged and holy and ready
for a new life (Plath 48). Yet on the following page, Esther is once again starving (Plath 49). This
accurately displays her insatiable hunger; regardless of how much Esther consumes, or how
purified she feels, she is never quite satisfied.
All of The Bell Jar s episodes with food lead to one comprehensive

How Did Wilfrid Laurier Unite Canada
I wholeheartedly believe that Sir Wilfrid Laurier is not only the greatest Canadian Prime
Minister of all time, but the greatest Canadian to ever live. I believe this statement to be true due
to Laurier s unparalleled ability to truly unite Canadians, despite significant cultural, social, and
language barriers, his unique ability to simultaneously embrace Canada s Anglophone and
Francophone heritage, and his penchant for achieving compromises in challenging political
situations. In this essay, I am to vindicate my thoughts utilizing historical evidence, such as

wealth of historical evidence that exists supporting the notion that Laurier not only held an
unprecedented ability to unite and foster national pride in Canada despite presence of significant
cultural, social, and language barriers, but that he is greatest Canadian of all time.
The second reason why I believe that Wilfrid Laurier is not only the greatest Canadian to

to embrace Canada s Anglophone and Francophone heritage, without regarding either as inferior.

The Discovery Of The Museum Curator
Becoming the museum curator is an important title, they pick and choose the 5% of the total art,
the museum has to be viewed by the public. The curator must be wise and make exhibits that flow
as well as get the point across to the visitors coming to see the museum. Curating this exhibit, I
have chosen three works of ancient Greek art that will tell a story and inform visitors about three
of the most well known Greek gods. A statue of Zeusfrom the first A.D, a Kylix of Hadesand
Persephone, and the Chariot of Poseidon. This collection of ancient Greek artwork shows the sons

uses other than baking. It can be used as a whitener or as a deodorizer. It can also neutralize both

The cream of tartar is used for its acidity. There are two types of baking soda you can use: Single
acting powder and Double acting powder. Single acting powder reacts with moisture. As soon as
you add moisture to the mix that includes a single
Powell 2 acting baking powder, you must bake it right away. Double acting powder involves two
different ways of releasing gas. When mixing with a double acting powder, some of the gas is
released into the air while it is at room temperature. Most of the gas released, however, will be
released in the oven while the temperature rises. Determining which ingredient, baking powder or
baking soda, to use depends on the other ingredients within the recipe. The whole point cooking is
to make food that you thoroughly enjoy eating because of the taste. Baking soda has a bitter taste.
This bitter taste can be leveled out using the acidity of another ingredient, such as buttermilk.
Baking soda is often found when baking cookies. Baking powder is neutral. It is neutral because it
contains both and acid and a base. Since it is neutral, it can be used with other neutral tastes such as
milk. You will commonly find baking powder in cakes and

Creating Content For A Niche Site
How to Find Content
The hardest part of building a niche site is to come up with content for a niche site because most
have no interest in or experience with. For the ones who not the writing type and can t waffle on
and bang out a few key pages of content themselves by utilizing what s already available online,
then they may follow these options:
Use articles from public article repository sites such as Articles and Go Articles. Writers
contribute articles to these sites that you can republish on your site as long as you keep the author
s byline intact. The downside of this is that other people also can do the same and your article won
t be original. However if your niche is small enough there won t be that many other people out there
discussing the topic
Another popular method is to republish Wikipedia content. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia
contributed to by anyone. Chances are your obscure niche content site topic will have some entries
in the Wiki and under the GNU Free Documentation License you can republish the content on your
site.
Freelance writers all over the web are eager to take your money in exchange for their writing
skills. Elance is the largest freelancer hub online, others include Odesk, Five etc. Listing your
article writing project there will flood you with responses. Most writers are pretty adept at
producing content on almost any topic, even if they just regurgitate someone else s writings in a
new way. A few thousand words shouldn t cost

Tyrannosaurus Rex Fossils
In 2005, Palaeontologist Mary Schweitzer and her team made the discovery of finding original
soft tissue, including blood vessels, in a Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil in Montana. Many of
Schweitzer s fellow scientists insisted that she had been mistaken because of previous theories of
how fossils were preserved. The fossilwas buried in a permeable sandstone, where groundwater
could get in. Since organic material is quickly broken down in water, the soft tissue should have
decayed quickly under the conditions. When an animal dies, the soft tissues (skin) decays and
disappears over time, while hard tissues (bone) may gradually obtain minerals from the
environment and become fossils. Evolutionists scrambled to propose a reason on how the soft
tissue could have been completely preserved in pristine condition (Fields, H. 2006) (Morris, D.
2005). The extensive study of bones from New Zealand s extinct giant Moa bird calculated that the
lifespan of DNA should be measured in thousands, not millions of years. Therefore the unfossilised
dinosaurbone is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The skin showed evidence of stripes and perhaps soft tissue. Apparently scientists stated that it
died on the banks of Hell s Creek, where its body was rapidly buried under accumulating
sediment and should have been wiped out by the decay process. However, the mineralization had
been so rapid that it is trapped and preserved as the waterlogged soil buried it in before the body
could decay much, thus ensuring preservation. Although fossils containing organic compounds or
mummified soft tissues have been discovered before, the presence of both is extremely rare
(National Geographic News, 2017) (Charles, Q. 2009). The fossilised soft tissues resemble those
seen in modern birds and crocodilians supporting the hypothesis that modern birds and crocodiles
are descended from dinosaurs (Switek, B.

Singapore s Upcoming 2020 General Elections Essay
Introduction
In light of Singapore s upcoming 2020 general elections, there are a few changes Singapore s
electoral system should embrace to ensure a more effective electoral process and accurate
outcomes. A condition for democracy to occur is to have free and fair elections as it depicts
popular choice and control over government. The People s Action Party (PAP) has dominated the
political playing field since 1965 and this resulted in Singapore being known as a model of soft
authoritarianism with limited democracy (Yeo. L.H, 2010). Although Singapore has seen an
increase in the number of opposition parties, these parties appear to be ineffective to compete
against the PAP.
Singapore employs a unique multi party parliamentary system (Wikipedia). The President is the
head of state while the Prime Minister is the head of government. Presidential and parliamentary
elections follow the First Past The Post (FPTP) system. While it is the simplest form of plurality
system, given Singapore s growing multi ethnic population and rising number of opposition parties,
this system may not be as effective as before.
Hence, this essay will cover how the FPTP system is currently employed in Singapore, and the
evaluation of its effectiveness. I will also discuss briefly why I did not choose alternative
electoral systems such as Two Round System (TRS) and Party Block Vote (PBV) System. Lastly, I
will proceed to discuss about Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) System for Singapore that can

What do you think will be your greatest challenge?
On this trip, I anticipate communicating with people of a different culture may be a challenge.
Although I do not speak Brazilian Portuguese, I know that we will have a bilingual interpreter
with us as well as NJMS students who speak both languages and thus, I know that the language
barrier will not be a big challenge. More than the language, I want to be contentious on this trip
regarding acknowledging my privileges and that I need to understand the Brazilian approach to
medicine in the context of their culture as well as the resources available to them. Furthermore, I
understand that I have limited knowledge and skills as a first year medical student and so can only
provide basic medical services at this time. Therefore, I am most apprehensive about effectively
understanding and communicating with the Brazilian community and recognizing that currently I
am only able to provide a limited amount of aid to these communities.
4.How do you plan on financially supporting this endeavor? (Are you willing to fundraise as a
team, as well as apply to the available scholarships?)
I fully intend to apply to any available scholarships in order to fund this trip. I am also looking
forward to working with other students going on this trip in order to organize fundraisers such as

Essay On Transformational Leadership
Transformational leadership consists of four components, being charisma or idealized
influence, inspiration and vision, intellectual stimulation and individual consideration
(Marshall, 2011). All of these components are of equal importance when employing
transformational leadership, but the component that I find most personally applicable is
charisma or idealized influence. As a student nurse, my surroundings are always changing, one
moment I am on the labor and delivery unit with a group of peers and the next week I am with a
totally different group of peers in a mental health facility. Being surrounded by an ever changing
group with ever changing goals and objectives I feel as though it is a challenge to emerge as a
leader. It is my personal belief that in order to become a leader, some sort of personal connection
must be forged, and this can be difficult with a revolving schedule. Conversely, it is also my
opinion that despite how well one knows the people that they are surrounded by, if one knows
themselves and their beliefs and values, their charisma will be evident. Being charismatic is about
being a role model and inspiring others to follow based on the personal qualities that one

Art During The Renaissance
The Renaissance, also known to many as the rebirth had an extreme impact on art and architecture
and many historians believe this period is studded with artists and architects. Through the 15th
century cultural and scientific advances were made through art and architecture. Starting in the
14th century, the Renaissancewas a time when scholars, sculptors and painters rediscovered the
great works of ancient Greece and Rome. They also quickly developed new skills in sculpture and
more realistic and ambitious ways to paint.
The rediscovery of classical civilization in the early Renaissance encouraged people to take interest
in themselves as individual and in the world around them. The main Subjects of medieval art had
been religious although artist adopted a much greater range of subject matter but the picture still

Renaissance was commissioned by the wealthy merchant families of Florence. This also meant that
the merchants would receive painting from the artists. These paintings were very important parts
of their home as it was a symbol of wealth. As artists become more skilled, they gained in both

Characteristics Of King Henry VII
King Henry VII s reign from Christine Carpenter In Medieval times rulers were expected to
follow a strict set of rules, which determined how the ruler s subjects viewed him. Some of the
characteristics looked for in a good ruler were trust in the nobility, having a royal heir, respect
for the law, obedience to the church, and many others. In this paper Christine Carpenter
examines Henry VII according to common medieval standards and describes some of his
weaknesses which lead to him being seen as an unsuccessful ruler at the time and being disliked
by many of his subjects. She also mentions where she got the information to come to these
conclusions, which leaves us to decide if we want to believe these claims or not. Henry VII was
not a successful ruler according to medieval standards. Not many people have set out the time to
study Henry VII reign in England, because of how unsuccessful he was. During this time there is
little to no official records from the courts, which leads us to believe this wasn t a promising time.
As a result of the loss of records, this time period is not very researched and there is still much
which is unknown. Henry is known for his, inflated ego and matrimonial adventures which
ultimately determined how he would rule England. Henry wanted to imitate the type of rule that
was very common in France, but this was impossible to do in England. This French style of control,
included a strong control on the nobility and a bureaucracy that showed

Of the utmost security concern is the protection of the root account. The root account allows a
user absolute control of the system, including the ability to alter practically every aspect of the
systems, from individual files to installed programs. Indeed, an entry in Wikipedia.com notes,
that a UNIX administrator should be much like Clark Kent, only using the root account, or
becoming Superman, when absolutely necessary, lest the security of the account be
compromised (2006). Ultimately, this implementation represents a near surefire way to protect
the system against many internal and external threats. By ensuring regularly scheduled root
account password changes and ensuring the passwords are strong, the cons noted previously
should be relatively easy to avoid. File system security is also very important regardless of the
UNIX implementation. UNIX files system security generally allows access permissions to be
granted to various defined users and groups. UNIX also contains an access right flag know as
the sticky bit . The sticky bit can be used to allow users and groups write access to certain
directories within the system. Similarly, the sticky bit can be used by a user to disallow other
users with access to the same directory to alter the contents of the file. The file can only be altered
by the file owner, the directory owner, and the root account (linuxdevcenter.com, 2006). This
particular element allows for a great deal of control

Rhodopsin And All-Trans Retinol
nents, opsin and all trans retinal. When this happens, retinal gets reduced to retinol and transported
to the pigment epithelium. There the retinol gets converted back into 11 cis retinal for the cycle to
begin again.
The phototransduction cascade converts light into electrical signals in the rod and cone cells, and
in the photosensitive ganglion cells of the retina of the eye. This biological cycle converts photons
into electrical signals in the retina. Rod photoreceptors in vertebrates are responsible for initiating
vision by allowing light to isomerize 11 cis retinal chromophore of rhodopsin. This results in the
rhodopsin to be excited and activates transducin to stimulate cCMP hydrolysis by the PDE, leading
to less cGMP in the outer segment of photoreceptors. The decrease in cGMP closes channels, which
haults the entry of sodium and calcium. This will lead to a hyperpolarized cell, as well as reducing
the synaptic release of neurotransmitter glutamate.

JJ has complained on behalf of the performance measurement system because currently his bonus

perspective that basing production manager s bonuses off of a percentage of sales is unethical
because he is not being based off of his performance. For starters, in 2008, CBI expanded and
began producing Gera beer, which unlike other exported beer, does not collect an eight dollar

Resource Oriented Architecture
Resource Oriented Architecture (ROA) is the structural design supporting the internetworking of
resources. A resource in this context is any entity that can be identified and assigned a uniform
resource identifier ( URI) (whatis.techtarget.com). Per Dr. Roy Fielding, Resource oriented
software is known as an architectural style that exploits the existing technology and protocols of
the web, including HTTP and XML. There are four concepts that are most essential for ROA s
which are:
Resources
Names (URIs)
What they represent
Links between each
And there are also four properties;
Addressability
Uniform Interface
Statelessness
Connectedness (whatis.techtarget.com).
With ROA s it is very important to first determine what should be considered as a Resource, this
is what really distinguishes the difference between the SOA s and the ROA s, once this has been
done the next thing would be to determine the resource types and how to invoke methods and also
how to correspond to the responses. The resources will be accessed through the HTTP interface.
Because the Resource Oriented Architectures are still in its beginning stages, in my opinion, I don

She could also be alluding to how his music and his films will forever live on even after he dies.
(She wrote this poem in 2011 5 years before he died.) Smith also incorporates lyrics from Bowie
s songs into her poem. These lyrics for readers that have not listened to Bowie s music would be
useless and hard to find, but for those that have listened to his music they shine bright and are
easily followed and bring those songs to the forefront of the reader s mind. Songs such as Sound

owner, On November 8, 1946 while travelling for to Sydney for a business meeting, Viola
experienced car trouble; the repair of which would take a few hours. She decided to pass time by
seeing a film at the Roseland Theatre. At the ticket stand, Viola requested a seat on the main
floor but the ticket was for a balcony seat instead, When she tried to sit in the main floor she was
accosted by the employee to move and when refused, Viola was thrown into jail. In the exhibition
there was a video playing that discusses racial discrimination and how viola Desmond was treated
like she was not a real person. It suggests that her story has changed history, fearless in the face of
racism and injustice her story tries to break barriers between black people and white people.
There are images and video in the exhibit of viola Desmond sitting in the theatre and jail. Gender
and race are represented in the exhibit as she faces discrimination and is treated like she is not a
person. There is a part in the video where the employee say we do not sell to you

No Sugar
Jimmy Munday s fight for independence is doomed to fail. Discuss. In No Sugar, Jack Davis
presents the tension of relations between the Aborigines and the Caucasians through the use of
dialogue, actions and the record of history on both sides. As witnessed in the quote Native
Protector, couldn t protect my dog from fleas , the sarcastic remarks of Aborigine Jimmy Munday
contain a bitterness against the whites that etches deeper than their humour. The pithy honesty of
his insights is then illuminated by Davis s attribution of various actions by the white leaders in the
play towards the Aborigines. Finally Davis turns to accounts of the past, both written and oral,
which act as bedrock to the sands of the present plot unfolding on the... Show more content on

Coz wetjalas in this town don t want us ere, don t want our kids at the school, with their kids... .
His anger grows until the farce of Australia Day in Act Four, when before having a heart attack,
he interjects proceedings, shouting, So [Mitchell] could have a nice, white little town, a nice,
white little fuckin town. Jimmy s inept fury over white occupation and leadership is a
vocalisation of all those on the reserves who by definition lack the means and ability to challenge
white authority successfully. Davis adds to the audience s understanding of race relations gained
from Jimmy s insights through stressing some particularly harsh actions of the whites. Even when
drunk Jimmy can make the wisecrack, Only time blackfellas git a ride off [the sergeant] is when
he s takin you to gaol. The white attitude to the Aborigines shown in this comment is wry, as gaol
is understood by Jimmy to be yuart, [nothing] only a wetjala thing. Don t worry about it. But the
punishments dealt out for being drunk are severe: Jimmy gets three months with hard labour for
his sixth alcohol offence, which is quite a jump from the 14 days he received for his previous
offence. White authority is highlighted by Davis in the figures of Chief Protector of Aborigines,
Neville, and Superintendent Neal. Both these men act outrageously to those in their care. In the
third scene of the play, Neville is presented as an efficient but cruel white administrator as he

Abstract
In the late evening of March 3rd 2002, through to the evening of March 4th 2002, Special
Operation Forces were engaged in an intense fire fight with al Qaeda forces on a mountain top
known as Takur Ghar. This battle was the product of a botched reconnaissance insertion and
ultimately resulted in a 24 hour fire fight and the deaths of 7 U.S. service members and over 200 al
Qaeda fighters. Navy SEAL, Neil C. Roberts is believed to be the first U.S. casualty of this battle
and thus, the battle also became unofficially known as Roberts Ridge (1).

The ramp gunner was tethered to the aircraft and was retrieved back inside by the remaining
passengers. Roberts fell from the aircraft and was believed to still be alive as the aircraft was only
10 feet off of the ground at the time it came under fire.
The helicopter was forced to crash land in the valley and now was 7 kilometers away from the
mountain top. Roberts was now completely alone amongst an overwhelming enemy force and it is
believed that he fought in place until he was eventually over run by the enemy (3).
The downed SEALs were picked up by RAZOR 04 and at 0500, again attempted to reinsert at
Roberts last known position. Now they were only a team of 5 with the addition of Air
Force CCT Chapman. The aircraft was able to insert the team but again came under heavy fire and
was also rendered mission incapable and had to fly back to its origin due to the damage that it
sustained. The team moved to the high ground of the mountain engaging and killing 2 combatants,
they then realized that they were standing in the middle of multiple bunkers as they came under
heavy cross fire from only 20 meters away. Acoording to the official report,
Chapman was fatally wounded almost immediately and 2 others would also become wounded as
they attempted to break contact. An AC 130 was able to provide covering fire and enabled the
SEALS to disengage. Wounded and

Variable Cost and Net Income Essay
Chapter 2 Questions
2 1. I agree with this statement. I would also like to add that cost behavior is also identifying the
key resources that are performed, resources used in performing these activities, costs of the
resources, and what the cost is driven from.
2 2. Two rules of thumb when analyzing cost behavior are to manage what the company
manufactures, sells, and to give advice as to where costs can be reduced.
2 3. Three examples of a variable cost are a 12% increase in the production of dresses, which will
cause a 12% increase in variable costs. A 10% increase in clothes will cause an 10% increase in
variable costs. A 30% increase in labor hours will cause a 30% increase in variable costs. Three
examples of a fixed cost are a 12% ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2 11. A break even analysis is a misnomer because the CVP is sometime referred to the break even
analysis. A break even point tells you at which point the profits exceed the expenses. The CVP can
be used to plan, and make decisions based on sales or costs.
2 12. I do not agree with this statement because every company is different. One company may
have higher expenses then another, making their break even point higher. It does not matter what
industry it is, because the break even point will always be different based upon revenue or expenses.
2 13. I agree with this statement because it is important that you choose the correct method based
upon your company s revenue, expenses, and net income. All three of these are good methods, but
there may be a more detailed plan that works better for you.
2 14. Three ways of lowering a break even point are lowering your expenses, lower the product
levels and reducing your staff.
2 15. I agree with this statement because the incremental analysis will do the same as the CVP, such
as seeking the change in revenue, expenses, and income.
2 16. Operating leverage is the firm s ratio of fixed to variable costs. A highly leveraged company
may be risky because little changes in sales volume result in large changes in net income.
2 17. An increase in sales volume would result in decreasing economies of scale for

Ethical Judgement Methods
Ethics are a standard of right behaviour controlled by our moral principles. Our ethics control our
actions, what we believe in and say is somewhat affected by our ethics. Although our ethics play an
imperative role in our lives it sometimes may be limitation, especially when it comes to knowledge
our ethicsmay become an obstacle. Some say ethics there to protect us, some argue they are a
hindrance. Our ethics come from two major ways of knowing which are emotion and reasoning.
This essay will tackle the knowledge issue which is Is our ethical judgements hindrance on our
knowledge a good thing? I will be focusing on two areas of knowing which Natural Sciences and
the Arts.
To some ethics can simplify life, by just following what their religion or what their culture say.
For example you shall not kill ; this is a worldwide ethical view. It is seen in many religions and
culture this gives a sense of order. On the other hand when someone is being raped and their only
source of defence is to kill the person who is raping her or him. Would this still be unethical?
On the other hand ethics can also not give straightforward answers, because everyone is different,
because our ethics come from our culture, environment and the societies we surround ourselves
with. Some say the source of our ethics is empiricism. This can sometimes lead moral principles
clashes. So whose ethics values are right? Even when it comes to individuals their ethics are never
consistent. Most people

Western Diet Vs Vegan Diet Analysis
With a toppling number in the hundreds; in today s society this is the exceeding amount of diets
in existence. As humans we crave an image of perfection in one s self; and a diet is just a route
we take in order achieve this goal. The question that comes to mind of many is: Which diet
actually works? The family oriented traditional western diet or a vegan diet? Firstly, the western
diet is characterized by high intakes of red meat, sugary desserts, high fat foods, and refined grains
( Nazni 78). This diet primarily consists of foods that are virtually available to the average
American. In addition, this diet is adequate in taste, is stated as being historically healthy and vital

The Conflict Between France And Germany During The Franco War
Prussian Franco War
According to the video Prussian Franco War it shows the conflict between France and Germany in
the Franco War (1870 1871). This war began after the alliance between German states caused by
Prussian overthrowing France. The Prussia chancellor Otto Von Bismarck sent a telegram to
William I, who was a Prussian king. It stated that France insulted Prussia. However, it was a
dishonest version of Bismarck to unify Germany nations. France declared the war on Prussia and
this was a tactic of Bismarck to unify German states with Prussia and the new German Empire
started. The unification of Germany demonstrated the nationalism between these countries. The
negative reaction of France led to the ruins of Paris, the high human cost and a big revolution
between these nations. France lost the control over the entire Europe. Prussia became the leading
country in the German imperial and it dominated the entire Europe. According to the encyclopedia
Britannica, nationalism is a movement in history when people have established territorial
authorities....The strong belief that the interests of a particular nation state are of primary
importance. Also, it is the belief that a people who share a common language, history, and culture
should constitute an independent nation, free of foreign domination . Germany s unification with
Prussia demonstrated nationalism. Nationalism influenced by Napoleon III through Europe was
turning against France. Nationalism was also influenced

The Transformation of Society in The City of the End of...
The future of society is an often unpredictable topic due to its many variables. In The Lost Island
and in The City of the End of Things , the future is depicted as something detrimental to the
society each story represents. In Pauline Johnson s short story, The Lost Island , this concept is
manifested in the visions given by the Medicine Man, who foretells the oppression of his people
by the arrival of the colonizers. In Archibald Lampman s poem, The City of the End of Things ,
this concept is expressed through the downfall of greater humansociety in favour of a colder, more
robotic age. These two texts exemplify the variable nature of the future by focusing on the harmful
possibilities that may befall society. Each of these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem The City of the End of Things , the narrator recalls the manner in which humanity
existed before the rise of the technological era so that the current environment has a greater
impact. The story The Lost Island represents the status of the Aboriginal people as the
confirmation of a prophecy which foretold their inevitable oppression. This detrimental state of
their society is the result of the foreseen arrival of the non Aboriginal people to Vancouver. The
prophecy that foretold this states of the people is told by the character known only as my old
tallicum [friend] (Johnson 233). Within the story, this character is telling another, unnamed
character, a specific story about the history of their people (Johnson 233). According to this story,
an old medicine man was once plagued by visions of the future. He was described as hearing
voices throughout his life, which told him about the inevitable arrival of the white man...many
hundreds of them, many thousands of them (Johnson 234). The prophecy continued, claiming that
the Indians will learn [the white man s] ways...will become as they are...it will be as if the Indians
had lost all bravery, all courage, all confidence (Johnson 234). The accuracy of this prophecy is
made clear in earlier passages of the story. The Lost Island began with the main character saying, we
Indians have lost...our lands...[our] language and the legends and the traditions... (Johnson 233).

Anti-Irish Sentiments In American Film
Film makers do seem to focus more on violence and other dramatic aspects of life in movies, such
as The Gangs of New York or 12 Years a Slave, rather than the mundane due to the strange
attraction audiences have for violent entertainment. However, this doesn t refute the possibility of
life truly being as harsh as the two movies showcase, especially considering that these movies were
based on true stories and real people.
It s quite difficult to imagine anti Irish sentiments in America today, considering their natural
assimilation into American culture. However, during the mid 19th century, which is when the filmis
set, hatred and distrust towards the Irish by Americans was very common. The press at the time
demonized Irish immigrants and

Cleopatra VII Philopator
Cleopatra s name has been immortalized , according to most, in history. Cleopatra VII Philopator

history not only by being the last ruler of Egypt. However Cleopatra was famous for her epic love
story. She was sexually accomplished, is this what sets her apart from other queens or was her

Queen Cleopatra never had any intention of ruling with her brother and husband Ptolemy XIII.
After a hard few years for the government in Egypt they finally recovered and Cleopatra s face
started appearing alone on coins, this action broke tradition and this was the beginning of her
downfall. She started to cause trouble and she eventually had to flee after trying to start an
uprising only out of spite. She was exiled. And although for most rulers that is the end, this was
not the case for Cleopatra. Everything seemed to fall into place after her brother angered Caesar
after he ordered the death of Pompey, a powerful Roman. Cleopatra used this feud between her
brother and Caesar to manipulate Caesar into helping her to regain her throne. The main goal
was to have an heir to the throne and soon enough Cleopatra yet again got her way. He son, like
mentioned before, became co ruler after the death of her second brother in 46 B.C. In her adult
life Cleopatra would have met few people she considered her equal. To the Romans she was a
stubborn, supreme exception to every rule. She remains largely incomparable: She had plenty of
predecessors, few successors. With her, the age of empresses essentially came to an end. In two
thousand years only one or two other women could be said to have wielded unrestricted authority
over so vast a realm. Cleopatra remains nearly alone at the all male table, in possession of a hand
both flush and flawed. She got a very good deal right, and one crucial thing wrong

Why Contraception And Not Only Natural Family Planning...
Thesis: I will discuss why contraception and not only Natural Family Planning should be allowed
by the Catholic Church because it helps prevents sexually transmitted infections and diseases and
prevents millions of unwanted children from being born and then abandoned every year. Different
forms of contraception have existed for hundreds of years, dating back to the Roman Empire. It
was not until the 1950 s that a progesterone pill, synthesized from wild yams was created which
could block ovulation (Gibson). In 1960, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved
Enovid, an oral contraceptive pill (Gibson). The creation of this pill marked the biggest change in
how contraceptive was viewed and its potential in American history. Even though other forms of
contraception existed, those were more directed for male use only. This was one of the few
methods that females could take and that actually worked. By 1965, almost 6.5 million women in
America were on this method of contraceptive, which is most commonly known as the pill. At the
time, state laws prohibited the use of contraceptives until 1965 when the Supreme Court unbanned
these laws. The Catholic Church began to weight into this phenomenon and after the Supreme
Court allowed the use of this method as safe and effective for couples, everyone thought the Church
would accept it and allow individuals to make the decision about contraceptive for themselves.
Unfortunately, in 1968 Paul IV released Humanae Vitae. In this

Automotive Ethics Of The Automotive Industry Essay
Automotive ethics is a subject that is often over looked. Not many people look at what is ethical
in the automotive industry, most people are generally happy if they can get a good deal on a
car. However, automotive ethics has an affect on how automobiles are made, what rules the
government puts on them, and their danger on the environment. Before the engine was invented,
life revolved around a much more complicated system of transportation. Much advancement in
technology has been made to make the common lifestyle today much easier, For example,
cellular telephones and onboard navigation systems (gps) in automobiles. Cellular telephones
and navigation systems (gps) have become an everyday item, but nobody looks at the dangers
that can have while operating a motor vehicle. Before the invention of the modern day engine,
lifestyles were completely different. Letters were sent by horse in wagons, people traveled by
horses and other such animals, often taking an entire day to go twenty miles. The first fuel
engine was not invented until 1923. It only took one year before this engine was put into
automobiles, making the lives of the public much easier. The invention of the engine not only
made it possible to travel by road, but also by water and air. Mail, letters and more were no longer
delivered by horses and families were able to travel from one place to another in less than a day.
However, the affects of the modern day engine can be seen all over the world. For Example,

  • 3. Mandatory Sentencing Laws For Repeat Offenders In the 1990s, states began to execute mandatory sentencing laws for repeat offenders. This statute became known as three strike laws . The three strikes law increases prison sentence for people convicted of a felony. If you have two or more violent crimes or serious felonies, it limits the ability that offenders have to receive a punishment other than life sentencing. By 2003 over half of the states and federal government had enacted the three strike laws . The expectation behind it was to get career criminals off the street for the good of the public. However, the laws have their connoisseurs who charge sentences that are often excessive to the crimes committed and that incarcerate of three strike inmates for 25 years to life. Nevertheless, the US Supreme Court has upheld three strike laws and had rejected the fact that they amount to cruel and unusual punishment. The state of Washington passed the first three strikes law in 1993. Anyone convicted of three separate violent felonies must be sentenced to life in prison without a chance for parole. Then on March 8th, 1994, California followed by enacting the law that sanctioned a sentence of 25 years to life for a third felony conviction. Contrary to Washington, the California law counts nonviolent felonies, such as burglary and theft as strike offences; by 2001, over 50,000 criminals had been penalized under the new law, far more than any other state, with almost a quarter of the prisoners facing a minimum of 25 years ... I will try to give my classmates a better understanding about the way this culture lives, in what is to them a new land. Undocumented immigrants is the culture that I chose to write about in my paper. When I use the term undocumented immigrants, I am referring to all those that are living in the United States with no legal documentation. Foreign born persons that have no legal right to be in or remain in the United States. Undocumented immigrants consist of people from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, India, ... Sternberg and Barry clearly helped us to understand that this is not true, woman from poor countries migrate to prosperous countries (often illegally) and take jobs that local citizens reject as to menial or low paying (Sternberg and Barry, 2011, Pg. 65). The undocumented immigrant might have to make a sacrifice and leave their family behind in their country when making the journey to the United States. But there are several things that cannot be left behind no matter where he or she goes to. One of those many things is their cultural tradition. For many, going to church and praying to God is an important tradition passed down from generation to generation. In Detained and Deported, Mariana is a great example of this tradition. Regan describes her as a devout Christian who had very little time to herself between school, work and church (Regan, 2015, p.46). When she was detained she started singing hymns and praying to her God (Regan, 2015, p.247). When in custody, she did not forget about her tradition and got others involved in prayers (Regan, 2015, p.59). She always found time to pray to her

Click-Bait Definition Although all the writers have their own thoughts, reasoning and definition of click bait, they still share the common ground of click bait being a thing of negativity amongst people. All four articles really come together on one thing, being that click bait exists but really break apart when it comes to the little details and opinions regarding the debate. Hughes article reports that like most people her age, she is getting her news media from mobile devices that come from Twitter or Facebook. She takes several things into account when picking a relevant article, like: if the source is liable, if the conversation seems legit and most importantly the headlines. Hughes claims that clickbait creators don t trust us readers and what they are doing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He emphasizes that as the amount of views started becoming more respected, people started trying to cheat the system. But views don t track if someone watched or read a whole story, they only track how many people clicked into the link. So of course the creators took advantage of that and started creating juicy headlines that would just result in a click, or view also known as click bait . He argues that even though the website has all the extra views, it still isn t going to be trusted by viewers, resulting in them not returning back to that website. Mark s suggested that with our attention constantly shifting every three minutes because of smart phones and the internet we are drawn to click bait. As Mark reports, click bait has been around in newspaper articles from the 19th century and with click bait combined with hypermedia it leads us down cognitive paths, resulting in us not being able to find our way back to the main article. On the census of quality, Berger and Mark s seem to come to an agreement. Berger states that click bait is bad because it over promises and under delivers. It leads us to believe that we are clicking into something that is going to be worth it, but then we end up disappointed, losing trust and not returning back. Mark states that click bait is an attention distraction that can lead to higher stress, a bad mood and lower ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this research paper, I am going to show the various aspects of the theme of death in the short story . Before the short story begins, Hemingway simply tells the story of a leopard s skeleton that is said to lie at a high altitude on the slope of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is up to the reader to decide how to relate this tale to the rest of the short story, but it is obvious at this point that death will play an important role in the story. The main storyline develops around the deadly infection of Harry s leg after suffering from a thorn scratch. He talks about death in the very first sentence of the short story, saying The marvelous thing is that it s painless, that s how you know when it starts (Hemingway 4). As the story develops, Harry frequently mentions his wish to die or thee way he feels that death is very close now: You can shoot me. You re a good shot now (Hemingway 4). and I don t want to move, there is no sense in moving now except to make it easier for you (Hemingway 8) and Can t you let a man die as comfortably as he can without calling him names? (Hemingway 8) and Don t be silly. I m dying now (Hemingway 8). It sounds as if Harry is giving up, not necessarily because he is a coward, even though his wife calls him that, but more because he feels that it is more comfortable for him at this point to lay down and die instead of waiting for a truck or airplane that will probably never arrive: I ... • 10. Hamlet Character Essay The Troubled Prince: An Analysis of Hamlet To be, or not to be: That is the question (3.1.58). This is probably the most famous quote in all of Shakespearean literature and was uttered by the main character, Hamlet, of the play Hamlet written by Shakespeare. It demonstrates his instability and suicidal thoughts. Throughout the play he comes off as a very unpredictable and complex character. He makes many rash decisions, but at the same time often takes a lot of time to contemplate many of his choices. Through Hamlet s language and voice, we can examine what type of character Shakespeare created. Hamlet acts differently towards people in contrast to his actual thoughts, which are projected through his soliloquies. Due to the insanity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in the rest of the soliloquy he uses metaphors to say perhaps he should, take arms against a sea of trouble instead of killing himself (3.1.65). Perhaps the reason for lack of imagery to describe a terrible thing such as suicide is his insanity and indecisiveness. Though he plays with the idea of suicide, he is also fearful of it and cannot fully describe it with his normal enthusiastic imagery. In the soliloquy where he envisions himself murdering Claudius, Hamlet s insanity is the most apparent. This time he again uses simile to describe how his father was as flush as May in his sins when Cladius killed the King (3.3.82). He also goes on to envision the murder and how he will kill Claudius, when he is sleeping, or gambling or in the incestuous pleasure of his bed (3.3.91). Hamlet is obsessing over murdering Claudius, but at the same time procrastinating the murder because he wants it to be at the perfect time, such as when Claudius is most sinful. This procrastination is slowly driving him insane as shown in this soliloquy. In his soliloquies Hamlet frequently associates metaphors and similes and it is important to realize the progression of Hamlet s instability as well as his surprising actions and complex thoughts presented through these soliloquies. The manner in which Hamlet conveys himself and his emotions to other people help show another dimension of his character his little trust in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leopold subjugated the indigenous people of the Congo in order to use them as slaves in his quest for rubber and ivory, much like that of the Company who said they were helping the natives while searching for ivory and Kurtz who took advantage of the peoples beliefs to have them procure the ivory for him. In an attempt to attain colonies for Belgium, Leopold acquired a colony of his own as a private citizen. Leopold was able to establish a private holding company known as the Association Internationale Africaine . This company was publically intended to be an international scientific and philanthropic association; however under the guise of this company Leopold hired a Henry Morton Stanley to acquire a colony in the Congo. Stanley was able to gain the land by deceiving the chiefs into signing land deal when they thought they were signing friendship treaties. This colony would be known as the Congo Free State after the Berlin Conference in 1884 1885 when the representatives of 14 European countries as well as the United States recognized Leopold s claim to most of the land that he had acquired. When everything was said and done the Congo Free State was 905,000 square miles, 76 times larger than Belgium. • 13. The Pros And Cons Of Executive Orders Executive order is a rule or order issued by the president to an executive branch of the government and having the force of law. Executive Order (EOs) were used since President George Washington but were not mandated to be publicly released until 1900. To date, there have been thirteen thousand eight hundred and seven executive orders. Many argue that these orders are unconstitutional as it gives one person authority to make changes without consequences and without the consent of Congress. The term executive order is not a principle found within the Constitution. EO is derived from Article II, Section I of the Constitution in which it states, the executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United Statesof America . The term executive power was never defined, leaving it open to the interpretation of each president. That statement coupled with Article II, Section III he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed has been the backbone of how presidents have been able to create these orders. It is equally important to note that executive orders are not the only way a president can exercise his authority. His other vehicles are presidential memorandums, actions or proclamations. As with executive orders, memorandums, actions and proclamations aren t defined within the U.S. Constitution and used at the discretion of each president. The Lincoln commercial displays a famous man, admired by many, driving a Lincoln while talking about his positive opinion of the Lincoln. The video shares no statistical evidence to prove Lincoln manufactures better cars than other brands. The logical fallacy behind the commercial is that an example set by a successful person should be followed despite the lack of individuality in making a decision based on someone else s. The second commercial was a television advertisementin which Dish Network compared one or multiple anonymous networks to pigs, implying they overcharge. Although, the commercial never provided support for Dish Network to present its benefits over other companies. Quality service, channels, packages, and other aspects of a television subscription were not discussed to explain why one company is worse than the other. I never think you can put a price on protecting the people, but, the sad reality is that in today s economic times, we have to. • 17. Role of Food in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar is rich with an array of motifs, all which serve to sustain the novel s primary themes. A motif particularly prevalent within the first half of the novel involves food, specifically Esther Greenwood s relationship with food. This peculiar relationship corroborates the book s themes of Esther s continuous rebirthing rituals, and of her extreme dissatisfaction. The interrelation with food functions in two distinct manners: literally and figuratively. This analysis will concentrate on the figurative role of food in The Bell Jar, and how it denotes Esther s overall state. Early on in the novel, Esther establishes her attitude towards food: I m not sure why it is, but I love food more than just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She describes this peculiar strategy, as seen in the Ladies Day luncheon, While we were standing up behind our chairs listening to the welcome speech, I had bowed my head and secretly eyed the position of the bowls of caviar (Plath 26). Esther demonstrates substantial control when dealing with food, a control that is indubitably absent in her own life. Perhaps the most memorable incident regarding food in The Bell Jar is the aforementioned Ladies Day luncheon, which is reminiscent to Esther s rebirthing and purifying bath rituals. Esther gorges herself during the banquet in attempts to satisfy her starvation, however this binge eventually leads to purging. Caroline J. Smith notes in The Feeding of Young Women : Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar, Mademoiselle Magazine, and the Domestic Ideal that purging seems to be the necessary and inevitable result of [Esther s] disordered eating (16). The purging appears to emulate the same rebirthing and purification effect Esther feels after a hot bath: I felt purged and holy and ready for a new life (Plath 48). Yet on the following page, Esther is once again starving (Plath 49). This accurately displays her insatiable hunger; regardless of how much Esther consumes, or how purified she feels, she is never quite satisfied. • 23. Baking Soda Vs Double Acting Powder Have you ever wondered why certain recipes called for baking powder and not baking soda or vice versa? Well the reasoning behind using one over the other has to do with their chemical make up. There are different reactions needed for different recipes. Baking Soda has a white, powder like consistency. It is low on the pH scale making it a very weak base. Baking soda has many uses other than baking. It can be used as a whitener or as a deodorizer. For the ones who not the writing type and can t waffle on and bang out a few key pages of content themselves by utilizing what s already available online, then they may follow these options: Use articles from public article repository sites such as Articles and Go Articles. Writers contribute articles to these sites that you can republish on your site as long as you keep the author s byline intact. The downside of this is that other people also can do the same and your article won t be original. However if your niche is small enough there won t be that many other people out there discussing the topic Another popular method is to republish Wikipedia content. Tyrannosaurus Rex Fossils In 2005, Palaeontologist Mary Schweitzer and her team made the discovery of finding original soft tissue, including blood vessels, in a Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil in Montana. Many of Schweitzer s fellow scientists insisted that she had been mistaken because of previous theories of how fossils were preserved. The fossilwas buried in a permeable sandstone, where groundwater could get in. Since organic material is quickly broken down in water, the soft tissue should have decayed quickly under the conditions. When an animal dies, the soft tissues (skin) decays and disappears over time, while hard tissues (bone) may gradually obtain minerals from the environment and become fossils. Evolutionists scrambled to propose a reason on how the soft tissue could have been completely preserved in pristine condition (Fields, H. 2006) (Morris, D. 2005). Singapore s Upcoming 2020 General Elections Essay Introduction In light of Singapore s upcoming 2020 general elections, there are a few changes Singapore s electoral system should embrace to ensure a more effective electoral process and accurate outcomes. A condition for democracy to occur is to have free and fair elections as it depicts popular choice and control over government. The People s Action Party (PAP) has dominated the political playing field since 1965 and this resulted in Singapore being known as a model of soft authoritarianism with limited democracy (Yeo. L.H, 2010). Although Singapore has seen an increase in the number of opposition parties, these parties appear to be ineffective to compete against the PAP. Singapore employs a unique multi party parliamentary system (Wikipedia). The President is the head of state while the Prime Minister is the head of government. Presidential and parliamentary elections follow the First Past The Post (FPTP) system. While it is the simplest form of plurality system, given Singapore s growing multi ethnic population and rising number of opposition parties, this system may not be as effective as before. Hence, this essay will cover how the FPTP system is currently employed in Singapore, and the evaluation of its effectiveness. I will also discuss briefly why I did not choose alternative electoral systems such as Two Round System (TRS) and Party Block Vote (PBV) System. Characteristics Of King Henry VII King Henry VII s reign from Christine Carpenter In Medieval times rulers were expected to follow a strict set of rules, which determined how the ruler s subjects viewed him. Some of the characteristics looked for in a good ruler were trust in the nobility, having a royal heir, respect for the law, obedience to the church, and many others. In this paper Christine Carpenter examines Henry VII according to common medieval standards and describes some of his weaknesses which lead to him being seen as an unsuccessful ruler at the time and being disliked by many of his subjects. She also mentions where she got the information to come to these conclusions, which leaves us to decide if we want to believe these claims or not. Thesis: I will discuss why contraception and not only Natural Family Planning should be allowed by the Catholic Church because it helps prevents sexually transmitted infections and diseases and prevents millions of unwanted children from being born and then abandoned every year. Different forms of contraception have existed for hundreds of years, dating back to the Roman Empire. It was not until the 1950 s that a progesterone pill, synthesized from wild yams was created which could block ovulation (Gibson). In 1960, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved Enovid, an oral contraceptive pill (Gibson). The creation of this pill marked the biggest change in how contraceptive was viewed and its potential in American history. Even though other forms of contraception existed, those were more directed for male use only. This was one of the few methods that females could take and that actually worked. By 1965, almost 6.5 million women in America were on this method of contraceptive, which is most commonly known as the pill. At the time, state laws prohibited the use of contraceptives until 1965 when the Supreme Court unbanned these laws. The Catholic Church began to weight into this phenomenon and after the Supreme Court allowed the use of this method as safe and effective for couples, everyone thought the Church would accept it and allow individuals to make the decision about contraceptive for themselves.
