Communicative Event Genre Analysis
The second criteria that turns a class of communicative events into genre is some shared set of
communicative purpose and not similar forms or content. Swales (1990) discuss communicative
purpose as a starting point for defining genre. In the case of newspaper culture columns,
communicative purpose of each culture columns should be analyzed and then it will be determined if
they share a set of communicative purposes and further a class of communicative events or not. The
third criterion for a genre has to apply on the present features in all instances of a particular genre. For
instance every session of teaching English with English teacher might be regarded as prototype
teaching. Swales (1990) stated that whereas communicative purpose is the

A Brief Note On Contingency Management ( Cm )
c. Contingency management (CM) is a treatment that uses a systematic method of changing behavior
by modifying through consequences. It maintains that behavior has a type of repetitiveness and can be
altered by using a system of negative and positive reinforcement. These negative and positive types of
consequences, if administered consistently, can result in behaviorally changes. CM is structured
around four core principles; routine drug testing is arranged by the clinician to detect if clients been
using specific substance regularly, if abstinence is proven the clinician implements positive
reinforcement, which is accepted by the client and clinician, if a positive for drugs is disclosed the
clinician denies the clients reward that was agreed upon, a negative test rewards the client with what
was agreed upon. CM is an approach that is best focused on a targeted behavior such as; substance
abstinence, treatment plan adherence, consistency with medication, continuous individual and group
presence, and completion of specific goals. There is an assortment of reinforcement techniques that
are available to use with CM like; currency, rewards, tokens, concessions, and other prizes. I would
use the CM method when a client that denies that he is consuming any alcohol but shows signs of the
substance abuse. This would be a good method for those who do better when they receive a reward
that would more likely motivate them to accept change. Keeping the client occupied and on a roll

Theme Of Letters In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Letters in the Chronicle of a death foretold The Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a novel by Gabriel
Garcia Marquez that revolves around the narrator s attempts to put together the pieces of memories of
a murder that took place in a small Colombian town twenty seven years in the past. This passage from
the novel takes place in the end of chapter four where Angela is said to have written weekly letters to
Bayardo for seventeen years until the day he showed at her workplace with a stack of unopened
letters. In this passage, Garcia Marquez uses magical realism, symbolism, and characterization to
highlight the significance of the ritual of writing and receiving letters as opposed to the importance of

The importance of the writing ritual is seeing when in an interview with the narrator, Angela says that
it was enough for me to know that he was getting them (Garcia Marquez 93). This statement shows
that the fact that he was receiving the letters was enough, even if he wasn t reading them. The ritual of
writing symbolizes the importance of actions over words. The letters represent different things which
is seen when Angela spilled inkwell over a finished letter and rather than tearing it up she added a
postscript: As proof of my love I send you my tears (Garcia Marquez 94). The letter represented
Angela s mood as well as her feelings and their appearance holds more value than the information
which they contain. The letters were also described as being at first a fiancée s notes, then they were
little messages from a secret lover, perfumed cards from a furtive sweetheart, business papers, love
documents (Garcia Marquez 93). The letters are representative of multiple of things from their
appearance to their purpose which highlights on the importance of the ritual of

the consistent assent of the thirteen states was required for the Congress to establish any elected

The Legacy Of John Ireland
Unlike presidents, state governors tend to fade in the memories of citizens. Overtime, despite many
accomplishments and two terms, John Ireland has joined the long lost list of forgotten governors. The
mention of his name fails to incite anything but blank expressions from Texas citizens. In light of his
influence on one of Texas most famed buildings, it might seem as though his name might ring a
couple of bells, but no such luck. Clearly, John Ireland has been forgotten for too long. What did this
man do for Texas and why should he be remembered? Time to find out. Although Ireland lived in
Texas for the majority of his life, he was born in Millerstown, Kentucky in January of 1827 (Elliot).
His lifetime law career began at the young age of eighteen when he took on a deputy sheriff position
in his home county (Who was John Ireland?). Even in the face of limited educational opportunities
(his parents were Irish immigrants), Ireland succeeded in becoming a lawyer in 1852 (Johnson 42).
Only a year after this triumph, John moved to Seguin, Texas and began a prosperous law career
(Johnson 43). Following the proper order of things, Ireland married Matilda Wicks Faircloth in 1854,
but she would die two years later (Elliot). However, John Ireland does not seem to be the kind of man
anyone could keep down for long, as he married again in 1857 (Elliot). With his new wife, Anna
Maria Penn, Ireland had three daughters (Elliot). Although he was starting a family, John continued

Van De Walle, Karp, And Bay-Williams
Van De Walle, Karp, Bay Williams (2013) describe the importance of using visual representations
such as Area, length and Set models to consolidate fractional concepts. Observations of students
representing fractions through the use of the three models allows teachers to gauge if learners have a
real understanding of the fraction concepts. Area models represent fractions as part of an area. Circular
or rectangular pieces, grids or dot paper, pattern blocks, geoboards and paper folding are examples of
this type of model (Van De Walle, Karp Bay Williams 2013, p. 293). Length or number line models

Learners may also have difficulty in understanding that a fraction of a group can be found when more
than one object is represented, two fractions can be equivalent even with different denominators and
that objects that are not the same shape can still be the same fraction. In terms of comparison students
may have difficulty in comparing bigger fractions to smaller ones and in associating the size of the
fraction to the size of the whole. Furthermore students may have difficulty is grasping all of the
representations of fractions and the concept associated with fractions greater than one.
Van De Walle, Karp, Bay Williams (2013) discuss the importance of Iterating and partitioning in
building conceptual understanding of fractions and the way they assist students to understand the
meaning of fractions, particularly numerators and denominators and the relationship between the part
and the whole. Partitioning involves sectioning shapes into equal sized parts. Area, length and set
models are particularly useful in partitioning. Iterating involves counting fractional parts and assists
students to understand the relationship between the parts and the whole or the numerator and the
denominator (pg 355). Although Iterating applies to all of the models it is mostly connected with

The streets of Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré were busy as usual even known it was raining hard.
People were soon dried under their umbrellas or inside one of the many art galleries. Cars drove on the

A woman with a blight yellow umbrella walked the sidewalks as she was looking all over for

she digged in her purse from a piece of people and it took her a moment to dig until she found it and
brought it out of the purse. The tiny paper read in France:

Chabadoufe s Memoiry Analysis
Almost every commonplace scenario has a polite phrase that goes alongside it. When someone
sneezes, a scattered symphony of Bless you s follows soon afterward. When you receive a gift of
kindness, you would respond, Thank you. When accepting another s gratitude, you would say, You re
welcome. But what do you say when someone coughs? By normal people s standards, the answer to
that question is nothing at all. After somebody coughs, not a single word is uttered, leaving an empty
silence which desires to be filled with something. A while back in middle school, it was this palpable
feeling of emptiness which drove me to ponder the nature of this situation. How could there be no
phrase to respond to a cough? I soon resolved to come up with my own word or words to use in
response of someone else coughing. I thought on possibilities for weeks, but I couldn t seem to find
the right sounds to use. Following a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chabadoufe is more than just an automatic response to the sound of a cough. It holds more meaning
than that. When saying chabadoufe, you not only acknowledge that someone has coughed, but also
express concern or care for the individual that coughed. It is almost akin to asking, Are you okay?
since coughing feels very unpleasant and usually is a sign of an even more unpleasant occurrence such
as having a cold, sore throat, or something stuck in your throat. With all these thoughts floating around
in my head, I decided it would be wrong to share my first response with my friend. Instead of telling
her the original generic response I had planned, I said, Saying chabadoufe is a word used to both
acknowledge that a person has coughed and display concern over that person s well being and possible

Analysis Of Lord Of The Flies And Hunger Games By...
The concept of civil culture is one often glorified within society, yet its power depends wholly on the
ethical nature of those who uphold it. The novels, Lord of The Flies by William Golding and The
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, demonstrate this prospect as through the narrative techniques of
characterisation, plot, setting and style, they exemplify the moral decline of man under pressure to
survive, ultimately resulting in savagery. Characterisation plays a major role in both texts as each
character serves as a representation humanity and the faults within it. Throughout Lord of the Flies
there is a developing inequality among the characters as social order is established based on the
strength and ability of each. Consequently the weakest of those characters are placed at the mercy of
the strongest, in essence giving them the power that motivates their transformation from well
mannered British boys to unrestrained savages. Likewise inequality is demonstrated to the same extent
within the Hunger Games as the weaker, less experienced tributes are hunted by the Careers , a pack
of brutal children who become natural and effective killers. Throughout both novels, the characters
place great significance on appearance, as how they are perceived by others factors into their survival.
In The Hunger Games a certain appearance wins the support of sponsors, who may well mean the
difference between life and death, If you appeal to the crowd,

Virginia Woolf uses different character to embody different ideologies of the British Society after
World War I in her novel Mrs. Dalloway. Each character represents a different reaction to the war. The
most prominent character, Clarissa Dalloway represents the per class civilians of Britain, she also
plays as the protagonist in the story. She is contrasted by Miss Tillman, a working class woman. Both
of these women are opposed by another member of the current society, Septimus Smith. Smith was an
active soldier during the war and had seen all the bad the war caused himself personally, and to the
effect it had on his country as a whole. He is the representation of the downfall of British pride and

One of Clarissas most important parties shows the prime ministers attendance. His presences is noted
by every other attendant at Mrs. Dalloway s party. This act is a clear representation of the English
society s blind allegiance to their royalty, majesty passing; this symbols of what they all stood for,
(Woolf 172). This shows that the upper class as a whole has no real remorse of war. It also shows they
have no real connections to the war which leaves them with an unrealistic view of English royalty.
Clarissa is given the privilege to walk the Prime Minister around her party. This act should give her
great pride, however; these triumphs had a hollowness... they satisfied her no longer as they used

Ecological Validity In Psychological Research
Ecological validity is the level to which a study imitates circumstances which naturally occur or are
equivalent to everyday conditions (Custance, 2010). This is important in psychological research so
that findings can be explained or reproduced in other settings, such as the real world. However, certain
experiments may have low levels of ecological validity but still provide influential findings. To
discuss this Bandura et al. (1963 cited Oates, 2010) experiment will be evaluated displaying that even
if an experiment lacks ecological validity it can still provide an insight of how behaviour can be

Loftus and Palmer (1974) experiments were considered to show that ecological validity can still be

Saddam Hussien In Tales Of Tyrants, By Dedam Bowden
Throughout history, tyranny has been demonstrated on many occasions. When rulers wanted to have an
absolute power over all the aspects of the country they are ruling. One of the most famous tyrants in
the history of the middle east countries, or maybe the history of the world, is Saddam Hussein.
Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq for more than 23 years; he tortured, arrested, and killed countless number
of people during the time of his reign. In the article of Tales of Tyrants, Mark Bowden claimed that
Saddam Hussein was a brutal and cruel leader who used violence and ferocity in order to manipulate
the Iraqis and plant his fear in them. Bowden used word diction, and pathos to prove that Saddam is a
diabolical and ruthless person who is trying to dominate Iraqis and get whatever he wants mercilessly,
justifying his means by believing that he is a direct descendent of the Prophet Mohammed which gives
him the right to do anything. In his article, Bowden first starts talking about Hussein s personality
employing diciton words like anointed, and glorious to reveal how important, and confident Hussien
was. Bowden articulated that Saddam Hussien, the Anointed one, Glorious leader, Direct Descendant
of the Prophet. Bowden was trying to assert that Saddam Hussein was a powerful, influential and
strong leader. In Bowden s usage of Anointed he was probably trying to allude to Hussein s ordering
the genealogists to construct a plausible family tree linking him to Fatima the daughter of

A Doll s House Review Essay
A Doll s House Review A Doll s House was published in Norway in 1879 by Henrik Isben. He is
known as the father of Modern Theatre. He is also referred as the father of realism. The play is very
interesting because of the funny dialogue, the unique characters, and Ibsen s view of the place of
ladies in the public eye. The main characters of the play is Nora Helmer and her husband Torvald
Helmer. Imagine what it would be like to live in a doll s home? It s a house in which you are
controlled and have no energy to settle on any solid choice; It s a house in which you are a play thing
for another person s amusement. This sounds a ton like an awful marriage, so it s a house in which
your husband holds the satchel strings, in a manner of speaking, and abandons you with no influence
over your family s accounts. In fact, your husband keeps you on a tightrope. Such is the perceived life
of Nora Helmer. A Doll s House is an example of a literacy work with numeral possible themes. The
idea of the play is an expression of the need for women to escape from the confinement and restriction
that they faced in nineteenth century European society, it is supported by the condescending manner in
which Torvald treats Nora and by his frequent references to the respective value of men and women.
Another theme is in order for a marriage to be successful, the people involved should know and trust

Gandhi vs Genghis Khan
MAHATMA K. GANDHI VERSUS GENGHIS KHAN

ABSTRACT
There are so many leaders in this world who shaped the destiny and created a new order for their
countries. Two of very popular leaders are Mahatma Gandhi(India) and Genghis Khan(Mongolia).
This research makes an analysis of these specific leaders, with focusing on their skills and how they
changed the world, the ways they used while they were in charge. This paper will mention their lives
also their strong characteristics, what they have in common or different sides of each. Thus, this paper
will try to reach to an end whose methods are more proper or which one did better jobs.

It became evident that the British could maintain the empire only at enormous cost. At the end of the
Second World War, they saw the writing on the wall, and initiated a number of constitutional moves to
effect the transfer of power to the sovereign State of India. For the first and perhaps the only time in
history, the power of a mighty global empire on which the sun never set , had been challenged and
overcome by the moral might of a people armed only with ideals and courage.
The Cabinet Mission sent by the British government proposed for the bifurcation of India along
communal lines which Gandhi vehemently protested. But eventually he had to relent and on the eve of
independence thousands lost their lives in communal riots. Gandhi urged for communal harmony and
worked tirelessly to promote unity among the Hindus and Muslims. But Mahatma s act of
benevolence angered Hindu fundamentalists and on January 13, 1948 he was assassinated by Hindu
fanatic Nathuram Godse.
GENGHIS KHAN

The Nature And Existence Of God
The existence of suffering in the world provides a case against the existence of God as the problem of
evil. It seems that the God of classical theism is incompatible with the reality of the world around us;
could such an all loving, all powerful and all knowing God exists in conjunction with instances of
immense and seemingly pointless suffering? It does seem unlikely that such a God exists alongside
evil. However, it is questionable whether this is a proof that God does not exist.
The problem of evil which forms as; is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not
omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then
whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? (Lactanitus). Epicurus
here challenges the properties we associate with God, suggesting that those properties do not add up to
reality and be consistent with perceived belief about the nature and existence of God. We can form the
problem into an inconsistent triad (J.L Mackie, 212) which runs that God is omnipotent,
omnibenevolent and evil exists. He postulates that no valid solution of the problem which does not
modify at least one of the constituent propositions , positing that is would be impossible to remove
one of the characteristics of God without moving the image of God so far away from our traditional
understanding that it becomes unrecognisable and the problem still remains.
Evil in the world manifests itself in

The Glass Castle Symbolism
People read books for many various reasons, like being relatable or fascinating. The Glass Castle by
Jeanette Walls is a book that many would enjoy because it is well written and interesting story. It has
many good qualities such as; constant symbols and hidden meanings throughout the story, beautifully
written and composed, and the real life issues that the story takes its viewers through. The Glass
Castle is a very enjoyable and insightful read that I would definitely recommend for someone to read.
Throughout the entire book the reader is constantly confronted with hidden meaning and symbols that
add depth to the story. One of the major symbols is the glass castle itself, and how it represents the

In the introduction of the movie it starts with ocean waves and the beach, then there is a little clip
when Chris is younger and with his mother, Mary, at the same beach. Then the scene changes to an

being at the mental institution. I think they use the fact that his mother just wants to be in her son s life
in order to create problems for him with kids at school, because everyone know about his mom s
disorder. This helps further the plot for this film. They also use a very light technique to advance the
plot. The producers use the time after Chris mother is taken to the mental hospital and Chris is lying in

Understanding White Collar Crime
In the United States, there are many different types of crimes that are committed. One type of crime
that is considered non violent would be white collar crime. Under white collared crimes there are
hundreds of different types of crimes that would fall under this category. Sociologist and
criminologists have come up with many different theories to what white collar crime is and what type
of people commit these crimes. In the next few paragraphs I will explain what white collar crime is

He also said that white collar criminals had more of a negative impact on U.S. society than street

In the recent years, with more state and federal laws against these white collar crimes, it has become
more difficult to get away with such crimes. There are more agencies out there today that help prevent
and help catch these white collar criminals before they hurt many individuals and investors. Agencies
like the FBI, the National Check Fraud Center and the National White Collar Crime Center which
teaches small to large businesses how to prevent and know how to spot a white collar crime within
their company. Even though there are many protections out there today, it is still a hard crime to
prevent. Most local law enforcement officers don t see these types of white collar crimes happen due
to the criminals committing the crimes are in a private setting when committing these types of crimes
(Schmalleger). Usually, the individuals committing white collar crimes are trusted employees within a
business and the crime isn t caught till after the offense has been made.
In conclusion, white collar crime has become more of a common thing within businesses today than
ever before. Or, it may becoming more noticeable as more prevention is put into place to catch these
white collar crimes. I do believe most of the white collar crime committed is due to greed. I also

Darcy And Heathcliff Compare And Character Analysis
father dies, however, Heathcliff is thrown out of his home by Catherine s brother Hindley out of

Darcy s father adopted Mr. Wickham as a child, but the adopted son proved to be a scoundrel,
gambling away his inheritance, manipulating families for money, and led Darcy to banish Wickham
from the house upon his father s death. Both stories are rooted in jealousy and banishment, whether
the main character was evicted or vice versa. The pride, hardness, and sullenness which Heathcliff
displays as a child is significant only because these traits make his later violence possible... His nature
is soil capable of nourishing violence... but the seed of frustration has to be planted first (Hagan 147).
Heathcliff was truly wronged as a child, which assists in his transformation into a revenge driven

media portrays, but a mere lack of resources, resulting in complete inability for one to reground
themselves. From that point on, I felt permanently attached to the matter. The largest issue that was
revealed to us, among the shelter, was the lack of transportation.

Conservation Of Mass Lab
The law of conservation of mass states that matter can be changed from one form into another,
mixtures can be separated or made, and or substances can be decomposed, but the total amount of
mass remains constant. Taking this law from a different view we can state that the total mass of the
universe remains constant. Whenever matter undergoes change the total mass of the products will be
the same as the total mass of the reactants. For example, in this experiment sodium hydroxide and
copper sulfate, the reactants have a total mass of 21.4 grams. The total mass of the products, copper
hydroxide and sodium sulfate, was 21.13 grams. The 0.27 grams was a result of the solution staying
on the thermometer that was used to measure the temperature. This law was formulated in the end of
the 18th Century. It marked the beginning of modern history. ... Show more content on

The most noticeable of them was oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen. It was also known then that when a
metal was heated in the air it became and oxide, this change was accompanied by an increase in mass.
An example of an oxide is magnesium oxide. This happens when magnesium, a metal, reacts with the
oxygen when it burns. An example calculation is when the mass of the reactant, magnesium, is 2.39
grams and the product, magnesium oxide (MgO) is 3.78 grams. (LearnChemistry) We can see a
noticeable change in the mass. It must therefore mean that oxygen from the air must have been
absorbed. The total amount of oxygen absorbed is 1.39 grams. This reaction can be reversed by
heating the magnesium which releases the oxygen and returning the metal, magnesium, into a pure
metal.

Important aspects of the story are unclear, namely Kahle s ability to see auras, his military background

forgotten in the course of the writing. Because of this, the story had a stilted, perfunctory quality that
made it difficult to read and confusing to navigate. It read like a first draft, not a finished product. The
end of the story never resolved the problems or questions set by the premise. I understand that this is
the first book of a series, but a clear, resolved ending is more satisfying to a reader than a blunt one.
Since Revolt of the Rats needs professional editing and a tighter rein to keep the plot on track, I would

kingdom was in the first century Palestine and how it is the same in today s society. In other words
Kraybill illustrated the image that people who are at the top of the pyramids, the wealthy and the

poor and hungry. The book also clarifies the importance of practicing religious principle through the

An obsession with possessions enslaves us to the demon of worry. Jesus invites us to change our
priorities, focus on the kingdom, and share with the needy (Kraybill, 2011, p.101). A man s wealth
will be measured by the love, kindness and empathy he has for the poor and the hungry in Gods
kingdom. For this matter Jesus wants the wealthy to humble themselves and receive their blessing by
offering opportunities to the poor instead of being greedy and celebrating their own wealth.
Additionally, chapter six elaborates its main point by exploring the six dangers of wealth. The six
dangers are as followed; beware of the strangler, beware of the worrier, beware of the blinder, beware
of the boss, beware of the damner, and beware of the curse. The first danger, beware of the strangler,
refers to the faith of people and the obstacles around them that could prevent the faith of God to
flourish in their lives. Kraybill furthers this belief by associating the people with a seed, and the many
obstacles that prevent its fruit from thriving. The second danger address in the book is to beware of the
worrier. Kraybill expands on this by letting its readers know that Jesus does not want us to worry
about tomorrow. This is due to the fact that tomorrow will be filled with its own worries and the
worries of today are already a lot to handle. Moreover, the third danger is to beware of the blinder. The
concept is to not let wealth and power blind ones path and fall astray

The Current Status Quo Of Theatre
It is no doubt that the film industry has grown exponentially and changed drastically since Pittsburgh
enjoyed its first theatre dedicated to motion pictures in 1905 (McNulty). Where graceful starlets and
noble gentlemen once ruled the silver screen, we are now subjected to crude, juvenile humor, an
endless pool of remakes, and as much action as writers can fit into a two hour feature. +After having
read excerpts from Roger Ebert s Great Movies and Richard Corliss s essay on films, I am going to
analyze the current status quo of theatre going/film watching. *A good portion of filmgoers nowadays
lack the awareness of classic films; dramas with male and female leads are almost extinct, seen as
corny, old fashioned, naïve or outdated; super hero or frosh/frat house / bromance type films
(Hangover, et al) films dominate the marquis since the main target audience now seems to be teenage
boys. *A good portion of filmgoers nowadays lack the awareness of
classic films. Retailers are ready, able, and willing to spend lucrative sums to acquire merchandising
rights, and so it seems that shoppers are exposed almost exclusively to whichever films are currently
popular each time they leave their homes. Additionally, television networks pay hefty premiums for
advertising rights, and our daily (especially primetime) programming is laden with attention grabbing
trailers, though only for a limited set of feature films. The general public is assaulted on all fronts by

around me, I saw something flash into the woods, I swear it was a person. Nevertheless I kept on
going at a faster pace, this place could be scary at night! Halfway down the track, the sun had just
disappeared when I heard a scream. I ran even faster knowing there was something bad going on. Just
before my eyes fell a body with a cut in the throat. I also screamed myself, then sprinted out of the
woods up the road and straight to the police office. It was closing time and the door was locked so I
banged on it furiously with my fists. Thinking back now that was probably not a smart thing to do, but
I had just seen a dead body. An old lady opened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her name was Mary and she went to school with me. I asked her If she would like to go for a run
through the woods that afternoon. She jumped at the idea, always being the fitness freak. Later that
day I changed into my running gear, then met Mary at the gates into the woods. We ran though the
woods and just before where I saw the body, I told her I was tired and turned back to go home, then
once she was out of sight I put on my mask and went to the side of the trail and followed her. Sure
enough, there was a scream and I saw one of the men with a dead body and a knife. I was sure it was
the Tom dude. I held my pistol tight, it was my most useful weapon I had and was only to be used
when needed. I was given the pistol by Tim to help me, but it was not to be seen by anyone. Tom crept
towards Mary but before he could throw the dead body I grabbed him from behind and covered his
mouth with a cloth, I called Mary to help me. She had a look of shock on her face, but then realised
what was happening. Quickly she scurried to help me. Tom tried and tried to break free, but luckily
being two fitness freaks we were able to drag him out of the woods and to the police station. Mary
carried the dead body and helped me hold Tom still. We reached the door to the police station, I rang
the door bell this time. The officer opened the door and we went inside. I

Samuel Beckett¨s Novel Molloy and Its Particular Style,...
There s no question Samuel Beckett was deeply influenced by the avant garde style of fellow Irish
novelist James Joyce when writing Molloy. Both Beckett and Joyce allude to the classics (Dante s
Purgatorio and Homer s Odyssey, respectively) and both extensively employ interior monologue to
often similar effect. Even so, Beckett, ever aware of the shadow cast by his former mentor, also
attempted to eschew Joycean tendencies in his works, as demonstrated in Molloy. Here, not only does
Beckett entirely deny readers the luxury of context, he deconstructs the very fundamentals of novel
and narrative. Distinctly metafictional in form, Molloy self consciously underlines its own artificiality
and, on a universal level, that intrinsic to fiction itself. Like the titular allusion of Joyce s Ulysses, the
two protagonists in Molloy also embark on a voyage of sorts, albeit the nature of which is even more
so internalized. As a result, there s not much by way of plot or setting, which remain intentionally
hazy. Still, the novel moves, sometimes at a dizzying pace, in part to its frequent digressions and
elision of so many vital answers: Are Molloy and Moran the same character? Is it possible Molloy
may not even be a person altogether but rather an alter ego of Moran? Is Molloy a state of mind? What
exactly does it mean to be searching for Molloy ? These questions stem from the novel s vague
definition of physical space and time, leading some readers to interpret the novel s second

  • 4. A Brief Note On Contingency Management ( Cm ) c. Contingency management (CM) is a treatment that uses a systematic method of changing behavior by modifying through consequences. It maintains that behavior has a type of repetitiveness and can be altered by using a system of negative and positive reinforcement. These negative and positive types of consequences, if administered consistently, can result in behaviorally changes. CM is structured around four core principles; routine drug testing is arranged by the clinician to detect if clients been using specific substance regularly, if abstinence is proven the clinician implements positive reinforcement, which is accepted by the client and clinician, if a positive for drugs is disclosed the clinician denies the clients reward that was agreed upon, a negative test rewards the client with what was agreed upon. CM is an approach that is best focused on a targeted behavior such as; substance abstinence, treatment plan adherence, consistency with medication, continuous individual and group presence, and completion of specific goals. There is an assortment of reinforcement techniques that are available to use with CM like; currency, rewards, tokens, concessions, and other prizes. I would use the CM method when a client that denies that he is consuming any alcohol but shows signs of the substance abuse. This would be a good method for those who do better when they receive a reward that would more likely motivate them to accept change. Keeping the client occupied and on a roll ... Overtime, despite many accomplishments and two terms, John Ireland has joined the long lost list of forgotten governors. The mention of his name fails to incite anything but blank expressions from Texas citizens. In light of his influence on one of Texas most famed buildings, it might seem as though his name might ring a couple of bells, but no such luck. Clearly, John Ireland has been forgotten for too long. What did this man do for Texas and why should he be remembered? Time to find out. Although Ireland lived in Texas for the majority of his life, he was born in Millerstown, Kentucky in January of 1827 (Elliot). His lifetime law career began at the young age of eighteen when he took on a deputy sheriff position in his home county (Who was John Ireland?). Even in the face of limited educational opportunities (his parents were Irish immigrants), Ireland succeeded in becoming a lawyer in 1852 (Johnson 42). Only a year after this triumph, John moved to Seguin, Texas and began a prosperous law career (Johnson 43). Following the proper order of things, Ireland married Matilda Wicks Faircloth in 1854, but she would die two years later (Elliot). However, John Ireland does not seem to be the kind of man anyone could keep down for long, as he married again in 1857 (Elliot). When you receive a gift of kindness, you would respond, Thank you. When accepting another s gratitude, you would say, You re welcome. But what do you say when someone coughs? By normal people s standards, the answer to that question is nothing at all. After somebody coughs, not a single word is uttered, leaving an empty silence which desires to be filled with something. A while back in middle school, it was this palpable feeling of emptiness which drove me to ponder the nature of this situation. How could there be no phrase to respond to a cough? • 14. Analysis Of Lord Of The Flies And Hunger Games By... The concept of civil culture is one often glorified within society, yet its power depends wholly on the ethical nature of those who uphold it. The novels, Lord of The Flies by William Golding and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, demonstrate this prospect as through the narrative techniques of characterisation, plot, setting and style, they exemplify the moral decline of man under pressure to survive, ultimately resulting in savagery. Characterisation plays a major role in both texts as each character serves as a representation humanity and the faults within it. Throughout Lord of the Flies there is a developing inequality among the characters as social order is established based on the strength and ability of each. Consequently the weakest of those characters are placed at the mercy of the strongest, in essence giving them the power that motivates their transformation from well mannered British boys to unrestrained savages. Likewise inequality is demonstrated to the same extent within the Hunger Games as the weaker, less experienced tributes are hunted by the Careers , a pack of brutal children who become natural and effective killers. Throughout both novels, the characters place great significance on appearance, as how they are perceived by others factors into their survival. In The Hunger Games a certain appearance wins the support of sponsors, who may well mean the difference between life and death, If you appeal to the crowd, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq for more than 23 years; he tortured, arrested, and killed countless number of people during the time of his reign. For the first and perhaps the only time in history, the power of a mighty global empire on which the sun never set , had been challenged and overcome by the moral might of a people armed only with ideals and courage. The Cabinet Mission sent by the British government proposed for the bifurcation of India along communal lines which Gandhi vehemently protested. • 25. The Nature And Existence Of God The existence of suffering in the world provides a case against the existence of God as the problem of evil. It seems that the God of classical theism is incompatible with the reality of the world around us; could such an all loving, all powerful and all knowing God exists in conjunction with instances of immense and seemingly pointless suffering? It does seem unlikely that such a God exists alongside evil. However, it is questionable whether this is a proof that God does not exist. The problem of evil which forms as; is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? (Lactanitus). Epicurus here challenges the properties we associate with God, suggesting that those properties do not add up to reality and be consistent with perceived belief about the nature and existence of God. We can form the problem into an inconsistent triad (J.L Mackie, 212) which runs that God is omnipotent, omnibenevolent and evil exists. He postulates that no valid solution of the problem which does not modify at least one of the constituent propositions , positing that is would be impossible to remove one of the characteristics of God without moving the image of God so far away from our traditional understanding that it becomes unrecognisable and the problem still remains. Taking this law from a different view we can state that the total mass of the universe remains constant. Whenever matter undergoes change the total mass of the products will be the same as the total mass of the reactants. For example, in this experiment sodium hydroxide and copper sulfate, the reactants have a total mass of 21.4 grams. The total mass of the products, copper hydroxide and sodium sulfate, was 21.13 grams. The 0.27 grams was a result of the solution staying on the thermometer that was used to measure the temperature. An example calculation is when the mass of the reactant, magnesium, is 2.39 grams and the product, magnesium oxide (MgO) is 3.78 grams. (LearnChemistry) We can see a noticeable change in the mass. Kraybill shows how upside down and radical the kingdom was in the first century Palestine and how it is the same in today s society. A man s wealth will be measured by the love, kindness and empathy he has for the poor and the hungry in Gods kingdom. For this matter Jesus wants the wealthy to humble themselves and receive their blessing by offering opportunities to the poor instead of being greedy and celebrating their own wealth. Additionally, chapter six elaborates its main point by exploring the six dangers of wealth. The six dangers are as followed; beware of the strangler, beware of the worrier, beware of the blinder, beware of the boss, beware of the damner, and beware of the curse. The first danger, beware of the strangler, refers to the faith of people and the obstacles around them that could prevent the faith of God to flourish in their lives. Kraybill furthers this belief by associating the people with a seed, and the many obstacles that prevent its fruit from thriving. The second danger address in the book is to beware of the worrier. Kraybill expands on this by letting its readers know that Jesus does not want us to worry about tomorrow. This is due to the fact that tomorrow will be filled with its own worries and the worries of today are already a lot to handle. Moreover, the third danger is to beware of the blinder. • 46. Samuel Beckett¨s Novel Molloy and Its Particular Style,... There s no question Samuel Beckett was deeply influenced by the avant garde style of fellow Irish novelist James Joyce when writing Molloy. Both Beckett and Joyce allude to the classics (Dante s Purgatorio and Homer s Odyssey, respectively) and both extensively employ interior monologue to often similar effect. Even so, Beckett, ever aware of the shadow cast by his former mentor, also attempted to eschew Joycean tendencies in his works, as demonstrated in Molloy. Here, not only does Beckett entirely deny readers the luxury of context, he deconstructs the very fundamentals of novel and narrative. Distinctly metafictional in form, Molloy self consciously underlines its own artificiality and, on a universal level, that intrinsic to fiction itself. Like the titular allusion of Joyce s Ulysses, the two protagonists in Molloy also embark on a voyage of sorts, albeit the nature of which is even more so internalized. As a result, there s not much by way of plot or setting, which remain intentionally hazy. Still, the novel moves, sometimes at a dizzying pace, in part to its frequent digressions and elision of so many vital answers: Are Molloy and Moran the same character? Is it possible Molloy may not even be a person altogether but rather an alter ego of Moran? Is Molloy a state of mind? What exactly does it mean to be searching for Molloy ?
