Abstract
Judges are the most prestigious members of the court system, but they are faced with challenges that
reflect upon there ethics, and faithfulness to the people they serve. Often judges make careless
misstates and forget that they are appointed or voted in by the public. Therefore some judges have
been removed from the bench due to their behavior that includes, sexual allegations, taking cash,
making racist and sexist comments, and lying to a grand jury just to name a few. Voters elect some
judges, governors or the president of the United States appoints some and others are appointed
through a merit selection. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many issues may arrive because of this and create problems within the courts. According to Skaggs
(2010) A recent study of the Texas Supreme Court, found that the more money a petitioner contributed
to the justices, the more likely it was that the court would accept a petition for review . Contributions
may show that a judge is in favor of the individual that may give the most money to there campaign
which may give true insight on what kind of judge they will be in the future. In the past some judges
have abused their office because of the lust of their flesh and the pride of life. Many have given over
to the power and prestige of the office instead of walking in humility of the office of judge.
The article Are Campaign Contributions Compromising The Independent Judiciary also gives
verification that there are issues within our current system today. According to Jefferson People doubt
that a judge who have received campaign contributions from a lawyer will remain neutral when
deciding the donor s case (Jefferson, 2010). People may not really care about the reputation of a judge
but rather look at how much money that particular judge have spent on there campaign. This type of
actions by canadates has affected the public views by decreasing the public confidence in America s
courts. By adopting a system where judges are seeking a judges seat would eliminate much of the
negative response by the people. By focusing on a candidate s work ethic and

Explain The Key Components Of The Skin
i. DRAW AND LABELLED DIAGRAM OF THE SKIN AND DESCRIBE ITS STRUCTURE AND
FUNCTION, INCLUDE ALL KEY PARTS.
The skin is the largest organ of the body, it covers the whole body and they are water resistant.
The skin consists of two layers, EPIDERMIS and DERMIS
Epidermis : this is the layer of skin that we can see, it has the thickest layer which can be found on the
soles of the feet and palms of the hands, thinnest layer on the eyelids and nipples. The cells on surface
are constantly shedding (the dead cells) this is called Desquamation.
Structure (Epidermis is composed of five layers)
Stratum corneum (surface layer)
Stratum Lucidum Stratum Granulosum Stratum Spinosum Stratum Germinativum (basal layer)

Unit 1 Assignment 1 Case Studies Of Endearment
Endearment, something that endears: an action or utterance showing affection and to makes dear,
esteemed, or beloved. These terms all have a positive connotation and are seen in an affectionate view
when used in any setting. In comparison, the n word is defined as a contemptuous term used to refer to
a person of any racial or ethnic origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc. and a victim of
prejudice similar to that suffered by blacks; a person who is economical, politically, or socially
disenfranchised. These two words are in no way viewed, in the literary sense, on the same end of the
spectrum yet in this particular article those involved see them as interchangeable. The feelings and
emotions that accompany this term are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would establish a discussion forum that addressed both this particular racial slur and others in the
classroom setting. I would first gather resources and research relating to specific race relations and
racial slurs in the environment and the challenges that have been presented. Secondly, I would request
assistance in establishing a board/forum of students, teachers, administrators, and parents who would
be willing to discuss this issues collectively with positive results being the ultimate goal. I would
utilize this forum on a regular basis and not just during periods of tension. Keeping communication
open about these types of situations takes some of the apprehension and anger out of them when they
present themselves in our everyday lives. My rationale in this is that the challenges that face society
today are hindered by silence. When a person or group feels that they do not have a voice, it hinders
their ability to participate actively and productively in these types

Understanding Business Law
Understanding Business Law
Commercial law, also known as business law, is the body of law that applies to the rights, relations,
and conduct of persons and businesses engaged in commerce, merchandising, trade, and sales. It is
often considered to be a branch of civil law and deals with issues of both private law and public law.
Business law is very important when starting a business. It will help you operate your business
without the hindrances of ignorance. Business law will help you prepare for issues pertaining to
Zoning Laws, Licensing Laws, Tax Laws, Trademark and Patent Laws. Once you got your business
running, you will need to know how to protect your business from things like lawsuits, creditors, the
IRS and other government agencies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When dealing with Military allotments, Soldiers will go out and purchase lavish and expensive items
such as cars, furniture, computers and gaming systems with ridiculous interest rates. The soldiers were
allowed to walk into businesses and purchase items with no money down and take it home the same
day. With no cap on how many allotments a Soldier can have, he or she will miscalculate their
monthly spending and at the end of the month have no money left for necessities. The Soldiers then
cancel the allotments in turn failing to fulfill and obligation to pay for their goods. Once the Soldier
stop making payments, companies will then file for an involuntary allotment to get their money. It is
Department of Defense (DoD) policy that military members pay their just financial obligations in a
proper and timely manner. Creditors who have been awarded a civil judgment against a military
member may seek enforcement of the judgment by applying for an involuntary allotment from the
member s military pay . (Collecting a Debt, 2014) Mrs. George also stated that so many Soldiers were
getting suits filed against them that the Army started to investigate the companies and found that the
companies were targeting and taking advantage of Soldiers and their families. On 1 June 2015,
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel changed the policy pertaining to military allotments. The new policy

Memory In The Giver
If there was a world where no one knew what took place a century ago, how the Earth was created, or
what life was like before urban cities, would society be better off? There has only been one answer:
no. How would the human race learn without memory? How would students make the right decisions?
How would everyone remember feelings? We wouldn t. Memory is the only way to hang onto those
precious moments that humanity wishes would come back. Memory is also sometimes bad,
nevertheless, that shapes everyone into how they are. But what could humans do without something
like reminiscence?
People can answer operose dilemmas by looking for what others in comparable situations. It helped
them to do what they thought was right. For example, if a president wanted to know how to stop a
war, he could look back to a previous war, and see what techniques they used to win. The community
in The Giver doesn t even remember what animals are. In their world, there don t recall colors or
music. They don t even perceive anything beyond their own generations. It is upsetting to think of a
life drab and dull. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

they learn from their mistakes. That is the reason why in The Giver, Jonas never again said I m

punishments. Everyone needs their memories to become a better

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Vulnerability
Vulnerabilities in a system are weaknesses present in the system or lack of a counter measure which
has been placed to secure the system from exploitation and attack. The weakness of the
countermeasure could be related to hardware or software. Any procedural or human weakness can also
be exploited to threat the network setup. Basically a threat agent gives rise to a threat, which in turn
exploits the vulnerability that gives to a risk. Therefore it is important to safeguard the system against
the vulnerabilities to protect it from any type of attack.
Electromagnetic vulnerability is a system property that causes it to suffer a definite degradation when
subjected to electromagnetic environmental effects. The information leakages from computer ... Show

be posed by the US army weapons or by the electronics systems in use.
A few vulnerabilities related to EM security in a national level are stated as follows:
1. Modern electric equipment shrinks in size which is a reason for increased vulnerability to
electromagnetic interference. This makes restoring difficult.
2. Communication method such as given in the scenario presented to us where the network setup has
components of the national level of network of client nodes, infrastructure and datacenters, such
communications are vulnerable to the damage or disruption of electronics in the nodes that access the
fiber channels.
3. Sensors used in the system are vulnerable to EM attacks.
4. The electronic systems in the network are also vulnerable to HPM attacks. The enemy can
comfortably blind forces to allow attacks by disabling key nodes in a sensor network for a
considerable time period. This vulnerability though is limited to a range and needs high energy

LDCT Screening
According to recent studies at Indiana Universty School of Medicine, alternative methods for
detecting non small cell lung cancer are emerging. The current methods of detecting NSCLC may be
effective, but they are also very expensive. One method called a low dose computed tomography
(LDCT) has been successful in identifying malignant tumors. However, routine LDCT screenings
would result in 1.3 to 2 billion dollars nationally in health care costs annually. Deig, Mendonca, and
Lautenschlaeger suggest that pursuing other methods of screening for NSCLC would significantly
decrease this cost. If screenings could be conducted in a cost efficient and effective manner, then the
expensive LDCT procedure would only have to be conducted for patients who ... Show more content

Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease. By
measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before recommending
expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One of these biomarkers
that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs are molecules that are
involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous cells. A study in cancer
patients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with microRNAs to screening with
LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at identifying cancer as LDCT, but
since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can identify patients that should undergo LCDT
testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially would decrease the number of patients paying for
LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA
refers to fragments of DNA from tumors found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study
indicated that observing ct DNA could have multiple useful applications for oncologists. Ct DNA
analysis during treatment could serve as an indication of how tumors react to treatment methods and
whether recurrence is likely. Detecting ct DNA in the bloodstream could even serve as an early sign of
cancer, observable before imaging tests even show tumors. However, ct DNA analysis has not yet
proved to be a replacement for LDCT

Literary Analysis Of Bule De Suif
While at first glance Maupassant s story Boule de Suif seems to merely be a story of fellow travelers
and their struggles to continue their journey, it in fact presents a more political and patriotic view of
their journey and quarrels. The main characters, all of whom are French, are crowded together on a
stagecoach and begin discussing their distaste and hatred for the Prussians, and their pride for the
heroic acts of the French in the war. While the story begins with pride and patriotism for the groups
country, it will become apparent by the end that the prostitute Boule de Suif is in fact the only true
patriot of the group. This sense of patriotism found in Boule de Suif also allows for a very unique
insight into the political and economic themes residing within the story itself. Within the traveling
group an odd mix of people come together to make for a very interesting position regarding social
class and politics. Among the group there are nuns, prostitutes and members of the high class society
of France. While they all come from different ways of life, they all experience the same sympathy and
pride in their country and their distaste for the Prussians and the terrible things done by them . Even
with this common pride for their country one cannot help to notice the symbolism and imagery of each
character s distinct social class and role. In the first scenes of the story a certain disrespect is shown to
Boule de Suif due to her low standards of living and

Anthropology Personal Narrative
It all began on July 5, 2015, when my family and I traveled back from Fort Davis, Texas, to our home
in Gardendale, Texas, after visiting our family for a Fourth of July celebration. As we entered into
Odessa, we noticed vehicles stranded on the interstate that impeded our progress. Irritably, we were
forced to stop in the middle of the road. Instantly, the music paused. In frustration, I started switching
the stations; nevertheless, all remained silent. After several minutes of scanning dead air, finally the
radio connected to the station, 93.3 FM. An emergency broadcast announcer alerted the entire Permian
Basin area that a group of oil drillers, near the Meteorite Crater, struck a barrel, buried twenty two feet
under the ground. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Story Of Tom Brennan Essay
Individuals respond in various ways to transitioning into a new phase of life and society, these
transitions can be challenging and confronting. They can also be transformative and thus some
individuals accept and others reject because it ll often initiate a series of consequences that may
accelerate one s personal growth and involuntarily change one s perspective and/or attitude. These
ideas are manifested in J.C Burke s, The story of Tom Brennan, a move about the transitions that
characters face after an indelible accident. In correspondence to the short story, Neighbours by Tim

applied when the participants both feel no redress is necessary for the sake of efficiency. However,
this does not seem to be the case in these situations, seeing that the majority of the other participants

Investment concepts and types The word Investment originates in the Latin vestis , meaning garment,

Thus investment is everything that remains of production after consumption, government spending,
and exports are subtracted. I is divided into non residential investment (such as factories) and
residential investment (new houses). Net investment deducts depreciation from gross investment. It is
the value of the net increase in the capital stock per year. Investment, as production over a period of
time ( per year ), is not capital. The time dimension of investment makes it a flow. By contrast, capital
is a stock, that is, an accumulation measurable at a point in time (say December 31st). Investment is
often modeled as a function of Income and Interest rates, given by the relation I = f(Y, r). An increase
in income encourages higher investment, whereas a higher interest rate may discourage investment as
it becomes more costly to borrow money. Even if a firm chooses to use its own funds in an
investment, the interest rate represents an opportunity cost of investing those funds rather than loaning
them out for interest. Finance Approach In finance, investment = cost of capital, like buying securities
or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the money markets or capital markets, or in fairly
liquid real assets, such as gold, real

The East Facade Of The Louvre
Perrault still relied a lot antiquity rule to do his reference, even if Perrault mentions that he created the
new taste of architectural element for French. He accepted that Vitruvius theory and order still an
important part of his theory. Perrault mentions that, I also contend that whatever innovations I
introduce are intended not so much to correct what is ancient as to return it to its original perfection. I
do this not on my own authority, following only my own insight, but always in reference to some
example taken from ancient works or from reputable writers. The East Facade of the Louvre is hard to
define its style because of Perrault s theory and Le vau s influence. A historian, Blunt, argues that the
facade shows the Baroque and Classical style at the same time. He wrote, The Colonnade has no exact
parallel in French architecture, but it is the first example in this art of the style of Louis XIV. In certain
respects it is Baroque: the scale of the Order, the depth given by the free standing colonnade, the
variety of rhythm due to the coupling of the columns. In other ways it is more strictly classical than
earlier French work: the clear and simple definition of the masses, the straight line of the front (in
contrast to the curves of most of the Italian designs and even Le Vau s first scheme), the severe and
almost unbroken entablatures, and the purity of detail in the Order and the mouldings.

Gun Control And The Rights Of A Free State
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep

Americans we are afforded certain rights that are upheld by the United States constitution, and many
citizens believe these rights to be part of our nation s heritage, or the birthright as Americans.
Conversely there are those which are opposed to some of these birthrights which were added to the
nation s constitution almost two hundred and thirty years ago. Although gun control is a major topic
concerning Americans and their rights, it is not always on the forefront of the many issues in today s

Later, in 1938, The Federal Firearms Act was put in place which further restricted the state to states
movement of firearms. This new law prevented those convicted and without proper permits from
obtaining guns, but there were no consequences to those who sold guns to these people. More and
more firearm restriction acts were passed like the Federal Firearms Act of 1938, The Gun Control Act
of 1968, and the Brady Bill in efforts to regulate the sale, manufacturing, and purchase of firearms.
Opponents of strict gun laws often reference the Bill of Rights, specifically the Second Amendment.
Although the Bill of Rights gives Americans certain freedoms, it does not mean Americans are not
without certain regulations. Each state has its own constitution, and in each constitution limits can be
added to certain freedoms to ensure the safety of its people. For example, Florida, Georgia and Texas
constitutions allow its citizens to carry arms as a means of self protection, but it always states that this
freedom shall be regulated by the authority of the government. Even though all states feel guns need
to be regulated many disagree in which way regulations are set. There are an estimated twenty
thousand local, state, and federal gun laws currently regulating firearms in the United States (Gold,
2004).

The first books now called scrolls were created as chronicles to document events which occurred in
history. As time passed by the ideology of books has changed from chronicles to stories or significal
events that occurred in history this has then altered until the books had a literary purpose of provoking
reader s emotions. Taste of one is the crucial factor of creating a certain perception of the book, but
this is often biased because a taste isn t allowed to be created. The discussion of a book depends on

Pros And Cons Of Education In Sparta
Give good education or die! Sparta was a small city state in southern Greece. Sparta s military grew
strong with a battle formation called the phalanx. Sparta fell because it had two challengers: Athens
and the helots. Education in Sparta: did the strengths outweigh the weaknesses? Education in Sparta:
did the pros exceed the cons? The strengths outweighed the weaknesses in the education of Sparta
because it made women stronger and healthier, the education reduced helots which kept Sparta safe,
and it made students physically and mentally active. One reason that Sparta s education strengths
outweighed the weaknesses was that the education made women exercise to become healthy and
strong. Xenophon, a famous Athenian general, stated, ...physical

Film Genre Of Western Films
Over the past years Hollywood has produced a wide array of brilliant movies, appearing through a
variety of genres. However, for every generation there consistently exists a dominant movie trend that
encapsulates that culture, frequently making appearances on the big screen. Early on in filmmaking
history, western movies were one of the original major trending movie genres. Later, in the 1970 s,
adventure was extraordinarily popular, then horror movies saw a significant rise toward the 1980 s.
Each generation has its genre. As of recently, there is an observably massive surge in the Sci Fi/Action
genres, particularly with teenagers and young men. More specifically, the rampant growth in
superhero movies, which obviously fits into modern culture s acclamation for action centric science
fiction films. Over the last decade superhero movies have surged in popularity, becoming the most
prominent film genre in history, because of its myriad of source material, painless production, and
devout fans. Throughout the last decade, both Marvel Studios and DC Comics have release a grand
total of thirty eight superhero movies, from those two studios alone. Numerous other lesser known
studios have opted to cash in on modern culture s super hero craze. Recently, Marvel studios released
their newest superhero blockbuster, which marked the ninetieth superhero movie released in theatres
since the year 2000. Amazingly, an astonishing eighteen more are scheduled to be released within the

The History of American Literature
The history of American Literature starts well before this land was even called America. It has been a
great evolution to come from tribal symbols and drawings to today s Stephen King and Danielle
Steele. Literature has gone through many phases and was impacted by great events and ideas in
American history. The earliest form of literature in what would one day be known as America were far
from what modern day people would consider Literature . The Natives who inhabited this land first
had unwritten ways of passing on experiences, beliefs, and stories. Natives relied heavily on the verbal
telling of these stories to younger generations. The same stories, fables, or belief structures were told
repeatedly, each time identical to the last, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mather s rewarding career included writings on science and medicine as well as theology and history.
His Sentiments on the Small Pox Inoculated (1721) was instrumental in introducing the smallpox
vaccine to New England. A new genre for American writers, the travel narrative, would become
especially influential late in the 1700s. Travel narratives include Travels Through the Interior Parts of
North America (1778) by Jonathan Carver and Travels Through North and South Carolina, Georgia,
East and West Florida, the Cherokee Country, etc (1791) by William Bartram . Travel stories often
blended observations on nature and landscape with tales of personal courage and achievement. The
first American newspaper, the Boston News Letter, was founded in 1704, and joined by the Boston
Gazette in 1719. At a time when newspaper journalism was concerned primarily with reporting
political events, the New England Courant, started by James Franklin in 1721, became the first
newspaper to include literary entertainment. Franklin s younger brother Benjamin Franklin published
humorous social commentary in the Courant under the pen name of Silence Dogwood . Magazines
also appeared for the first time in the colonies during the mid 1700s. Before 1800 magazines were
concerned primarily with measuring America s developing culture against the British model. During
the 1700s Boston and Philadelphia became centers of publishing in addition to being political and
commercial centers.

The Cholera Epidemic Outbreak Epidemic
The Cholera Epidemic In this paper, I am going to discuss the epidemic that was going on during the
time in which my story was written. The Cholera epidemic was a very serious illness and was
spreading very rampantly. I will discuss the signs and symptoms that are associated with the illness
and what was the probable cause. I will also discuss a few changes that were made with public
sanitation do to the outbreak of Cholera. During the dread reign of the Cholera in New York, I had
accepted the invitation of a relative to spend a fortnight with him in the retirement of his cottage ornee
on the banks of the Hudson. We had here around us all the ordinary means of summer amusement; and
what with rambling in the woods, sketching, boating, fishing, bathing, music, and books, we should
have passed the time pleasantly enough, but for the fearful intelligence which reached us every
morning from the populous city. Not a day elapsed which did not bring us news of the decease of
some acquaintance. Then as the fatality increased, we learned to expect daily the loss of some friend.
At length we trembled at the approach of every messenger. The very air from the South seemed to us
redolent with death. (Poe 1) Cholera is an intestinal infection that can claim its victim s life within
hours if not treated promptly. It is caused by eating or drinking something that is contaminated with

Course of action and justification
Due to the losses that the business has experienced in the past 3 years, it is critical to take action and
define a new way to approach the market in order to make the company profitable again. That s why it
s necessary to adapt the business by adding a new concept focusing on a different target without
setting aside the current and loyal costumers.
The new strategy consists on attracting families by adding kid friendly video and arcade games and a
private party space to complement the existing lanes.
As a first step Shelby Givens needs to familiarize with the kid business and make a research of other
bowling businesses where the Kid Friendly zone has been already implemented in order to get the
knowledge and get ideas in how to do it. Then, adapt the facilities according the strategy s needs. Also
would be necessary to create a new job position with the expertise required for handling kid s events

Reflection Of The Finding Meaning, Joy And Happiness Project
Upon completion of the requirements necessary to finish section one of the Finding Meaning, Joy and
Happiness Project, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy tracking my daily habits became. Between
the fitness log, eating log, and sleep log, I found it the most tedious to keep up with every workout I
did. However, once I got into the mindset of tracking these three areas every day, it became
increasingly easier to remember. The genetics/risk taking table also helped me to pinpoint potential
risks my family is accustomed to and figure out different precautions I can take to limit my risk.
The first section of this assignment was my Fitness Log, where I kept track of my specific activity for
sixteen days, including what I did and how long I did it for. Initially, this log was the most difficult for
me to keep track of. I have always been fairly adamant regarding my fitness schedule, so the activity
itself was not a challenge. After completing the log, I got to look back and see the pattern of my
workouts which helped me to better understand the results. I noticed my workouts consisted heavily of
the three areas I enjoy working on the most; cardio, core, and my lower body. There were days that I
felt too sore to move, while other days I did not notice much pain at all. The most exciting part of
keeping track of my fitness was noticing the progress I continually made, the cardio consistently got
easier to finish each time, and the area specific workouts also got less

African Americans And The Police Essay
There has long been a difference between African Americans and the police. Sometimes minor to
being outright confrontational. But if you ask someone on the police force, they would most likely
answer no, there are not any differences in the way minority and non minority communities are
treated. But if you asked a minority community, they would probably answer yes, there is a difference.
One of the facts that remain constant is the difference in the way blacks and whites view policing and
racial relations in America. Pew Research Center polling has continually found that blacks and whites
have very different views about many sides of race all together, from trust in the police to advances in
racial equality. In one poll, whites said that they believed quite a bit of progress has been made since
1963, compared with only about one third of blacks, according to a 2013 survey, which was done just
before the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. s March on Washington. Curiously, when
comparing those views with the views on how police deal with minorities in a survey shortly after the
Ferguson shooting when about three fourths of blacks said the incident brought up important issues
about race. When only about one third of whites thought the same. In yet another poll in which blacks
told of less trust than whites in local police to treat both races equally. A majority of whites expressed
a great deal or fair amount of trust in local police to treat blacks and whites

Steve Jobs
The Man Who Made Apple
Inventor, Genius, and Hot Tempered are words I would use to describe Steve Jobs. Many people know
that Jobs was the man who made Apple, but he was so much more. As a well known entrepreneur,
Steve Jobs showed the world that electronics could be so much more. He left a lasting legacy as the
man who made our iPhones, iPads, iPods, and Macs. The early life of Steve Jobs was quite elaborate.
The creator was not raised by his biological parents. Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 in San
Francisco to two unwed graduate school students. His maternal grandfather did not approve of his
daughter keeping the baby because she was unwed, and the father of the baby was not a Catholic like

March 18, 1991. Buddhism and his adult life were major influences on Apple.
(newworldencyclopedia.com pg. 2) Steve Jobs created Apple due to many calls to change. As a child,
Steve Jobs experimented with many things. Jobs had an interest in machines ever since he was a child.
Jobs was also a very smart, but not a very good student. Steve Jobs became involved in electronics
because of a neighbor who was an engineer. Jobs s call to change also came as an adult. (Pollack and
Belviso pg. 1) As an adult, Steve Jobs was dissatisfied with the electronics, this was a major factor in
the creation of apple. Jobs was a technician at Atari before Apple. Jobs also worked at Hewlett
Packard for a summer job. Steve Jobs s major goal for Apple was to make a computer for people to
love. Apple s creator s calls to change happened both during his childhood and adulthood.

Themes In The Inheritance Of Loss
Human Deprivation
The title of the novel The Inheritance of Loss is very suitable as tells failures, disappoinments of the
real characters once lived in the post colonial India. The themes of loss, for in our world if mankind
has nothing else to take over, it can accept loss as its heritage, however, the matter is not as simple or
straight as it looks, the reason is that this novel is a highly intricate work which confronts several
themes extending from loss to poverty, gain, to wealth, justice to injustice.
The Inheritance of Loss is a political and historical novel, but the truth is that in spite of its political

Mythological and Archetypal Reading of Fuentes Aura and Ligotti s The Last Feast of Harlequin
Mythological and archetypal techniques coupled with the interpretation of symbolism found within a
piece of literature tells the reader something about the mind and character of a people or culture. Not
only does it allow you to delve deeper into this collective mind and speculate about the meaning of a
particular work, it can give you something more. I believe that by using these techniques you also get
a better glimpse into the main character s state of mind. It also gives you clues as to is going on behind

Now that we have seen some of the symbols that could have affected Felipe s mind, now we will
explore some of the symbols that indicate something was going on behind the scenes. The fist symbol
I would mention is darkness. As I stated earlier, it is primarily a symbol of removal from God and the
light, the prescence of evil. The ever present darkness represents some undercurrent of evil that runs
throughout the story.
Cats are also an important symbol. The first sign we get of any cats is the sound of their painful
yowling . Later Felipe sees some of them being burned alive. Some of the things cats can represent are
independence and self sufficiency. Their destruction leads one to believe that Felipe s independence is
being replaced by dependence and his self sufficiency is being replaced by reliance on Aura.

the unsuspecting to ruin. 2 The prescence of rats not only hint at inappropriate activities inside of the
house, but also at the prescence of witches, something I am quite sure Consuelo is.

Comparison Between Confucianism And Taoism
Confucianism and Taoism are often referred to as rival philosophies. Both religions emerged in
ancient China around 5th 4th century BCE. Confucianism was founded by Kong Qui, otherwise
known as Confucius(Harbsmeier, 2013). Taoism was founded by Lao Tzu. Both of these founders are
considered two of the most influential philosophers and spiritual leaders native to China. Both
emerged as a result of the fall of the Zhou Dynasty (Sellman, 2006). Both of these religions encourage
their followers to live well rounded lives. Taoism is centered in nature and how it can make one s life
better and Confucianism is based on harmony with society.
Confucianism is both a philosophy and a religion (Mei, 2017). Confucianism is focused on setting a
good example (Harbsmeier, 2013). This is done through five relationships; ruler and subject, wife and
husband, older and younger sibling, friend and friend and father and son (Mei, 2017). It is an all
encompassing way of life focused on morals, humanity and ethics, and teaches that each person
should behave virtuously in every social setting (Mei, 2017). In contrast, Taoism focuses on living
harmoniously with everyone. Taoism is also considered a philosophy and a religion which reaches into
every aspect of an adherent s life (White Paper, 2003). Taoism is based on the idea that the universe
and everything in it moves because of a mysterious force or control known as the Tao (Sellman,
2006). Tao is also used to describe human

The United States And The Middle East
Following World War II, the major international powers in the Middle East began to lose influence
over the area. In 1946, France and Great Britain were forced to withdrawal from their colonized states
by the United Nation Security Council when a delegation of the Middle Eastern countries called for
the removal the colonial mandates on Middle East, specifically in Palestine (Department of Public
Information). While Britain and France did not completely abandon their influence over the area, the
removal of their direct influence over the Middle East left an opening for the two new superpowers,
the United States and the Soviet Union, to enter the scene. The two world powers were in stark
competition after World War II in an attempt to spread their political ideology. The Middle East
became a new battleground for the Cold War after the removal of France and Great Britain. The two
countries were drawn to the Middle East because of both their rivalry and their own specific interests,
but their actions had major regional repercussions on the area and the relations between countries. The
expression of the rivalry between the two countries came in three forms: direct engagement, alliances,
and military aid.
While the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union was the driving force behind the two
powers interests in the Middle East, both had their own specific agendas, which need to be realized
before focusing in on the rivalry itself. The Soviet Union had major

Human Conscience And Destiny In Oedipus The King By Sophocles
Among the Greek tragedies, there can probably be found something deeper and more elaborate, than
Oedipus the King by Sophocles, but there is not a single one, in which the philosophical depth and

perfection. The image of a monstrous Sphinx with the face of a woman, wings, sharp claws, the body
of a lion and mysteriously dangerous speech penetrates the whole tragedy as an incorporation of

He saved people from the deathly and truly intimidating allurement of the monster and solved its
riddle. This is what he is like at the beginning of the tragedy. He is described as the savior of humanity
from the dark forces of the Destiny, a hero of mind and will. The people believed that he would
conquer the monster and he himself believed in his own strength. The people considered him a wise
deity and he himself thinks so.
However, Oedipus is a human being and nothing more. The victory of mind and will over Sphinx as a
symbol of Destiny is temporary. Although, Sphinx ran away and left the people in peace, it pierced the
heart of the hero and would soon once again give him unsolvable riddles. This is the core of the
tragedy. Although Sphinx no longer exists, it is still inside the soul of its conqueror. It is more
intimidating than any carnivorous animal as now he is elusive and bodiless just like a phantom.
Sphinx is the mystery of life and every human conscience. The prophet Tiresias has a full right to

How Did American Culture Change Over Time
Over the past several centuries the world has changed in a countless number of ways. From
colonialism to slavery, the industrial revolution to the World Wars, and the modern day technological
boom, America in particular has often been right in the middle of all of the transformations. Amongst
these changes certain movements also began to rise up especially in the arts, sciences, and politics.
One such movement, romanticism, emphasized emotions, abstract thought, and individual self. On the
other hand, an opposite movement known as neoclassicism, or sometimes just classicism, emphasized
a more old school approach to life. For example, things like reason and rationality, etiquette, and

This includes healthcare, immigration, and basic human rights. After the most recent presidential
election many people that associate themselves with LBGTQ+ in any way have been sought out by
others wishing to cause them harm, or even kill them. Although it has been hundreds of years since
Lafayette s novel the times have unfortunately not changed much. The princess was afraid to come

many others, are today. In fact sometime after her publication of the Princess of Cleves it was
discovered that Lafayette was most likely writing about the rule under Louis XIV, but she stated
Henry II instead so she would not be caught and possible executed. It is in this way that even though
certain aspects of our society is changing the world today is still very much classicist, and stuck in
their traditional old school ways of life. Another example of this classicist view can be seen in Karl

Introduction
Intellectual Property Concepts: Patents, Trade Mark, Trade Secret and Copyright
The modern economy is principally technology driven. Technology products are normally creations of
the mind. They entail unique techniques, products, or brands. In order to protect their own investment,
entrepreneurs need to safeguard these creations because they are intellectual property. Intellectual
property is the mind s product, but can be manifested physically. Therefore, its concept behind it can
be copied or transferred. These concepts need to be protected by law. There are four major kinds of

They also indicate sponsorship and authorization. They also differentiate a company s products from
those of competitors. Trademarks also show value and image as an effort to create a notion of quality
or uniqueness in the mind of the customer. Trademark infringement takes place when there is chance
of confusion between two products or services offered by different companies (Knudson, 2006).
Trademarks are usually a crucial element of company s marketing strategy and therefore need to be
selected carefully and safeguarded consistently against all possible violators. Copyrights are used in
protection of artistic works like books, plays, films, music, paintings, or computer software. Copyright
infringement entails use of such works either in part of whole without prior permission of their
owners, or without acknowledging the source (Knudson, 2006). Trade secret refers to any intellectual
property that grants its holder a competitive edge over the competitors. It includes any information
which may in from of a formula, pattern, compilation, program, technique, process that derives
sovereign economic value from not being known. Unlike patents which protect the original inventor
regardless of the source of subsequent inventions, trade secrets are not safeguarded (Knudson, 2006).
Further, a person can dismantle a product in order to uncover a trade secret without infringement
through a process known as reverse engineering. However,

  • 2. Essay on Article Review Article Review Steven Anders Criminal Justice 500 November 30, 2014 Honorable Scott W. Naus Instructor Abstract Judges are the most prestigious members of the court system, but they are faced with challenges that reflect upon there ethics, and faithfulness to the people they serve. Often judges make careless misstates and forget that they are appointed or voted in by the public. Therefore some judges have been removed from the bench due to their behavior that includes, sexual allegations, taking cash, making racist and sexist comments, and lying to a grand jury just to name a few. Voters elect some judges, governors or the president of the United States appoints some and others are appointed through a merit selection. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many issues may arrive because of this and create problems within the courts. According to Skaggs (2010) A recent study of the Texas Supreme Court, found that the more money a petitioner contributed to the justices, the more likely it was that the court would accept a petition for review . Contributions may show that a judge is in favor of the individual that may give the most money to there campaign which may give true insight on what kind of judge they will be in the future. In the past some judges have abused their office because of the lust of their flesh and the pride of life. Many have given over to the power and prestige of the office instead of walking in humility of the office of judge. The article Are Campaign Contributions Compromising The Independent Judiciary also gives verification that there are issues within our current system today. According to Jefferson People doubt that a judge who have received campaign contributions from a lawyer will remain neutral when deciding the donor s case (Jefferson, 2010). People may not really care about the reputation of a judge but rather look at how much money that particular judge have spent on there campaign. This type of actions by canadates has affected the public views by decreasing the public confidence in America s courts. By adopting a system where judges are seeking a judges seat would eliminate much of the negative response by the people. By focusing on a candidate s work ethic and ... These terms all have a positive connotation and are seen in an affectionate view when used in any setting. In comparison, the n word is defined as a contemptuous term used to refer to a person of any racial or ethnic origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc. and a victim of prejudice similar to that suffered by blacks; a person who is economical, politically, or socially disenfranchised. I would utilize this forum on a regular basis and not just during periods of tension. Keeping communication open about these types of situations takes some of the apprehension and anger out of them when they present themselves in our everyday lives. My rationale in this is that the challenges that face society today are hindered by silence. When a person or group feels that they do not have a voice, it hinders their ability to participate actively and productively in these types ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When dealing with Military allotments, Soldiers will go out and purchase lavish and expensive items such as cars, furniture, computers and gaming systems with ridiculous interest rates. The soldiers were allowed to walk into businesses and purchase items with no money down and take it home the same day. With no cap on how many allotments a Soldier can have, he or she will miscalculate their monthly spending and at the end of the month have no money left for necessities. The Soldiers then cancel the allotments in turn failing to fulfill and obligation to pay for their goods. Once the Soldier stop making payments, companies will then file for an involuntary allotment to get their money. • 6. Memory In The Giver If there was a world where no one knew what took place a century ago, how the Earth was created, or what life was like before urban cities, would society be better off? There has only been one answer: no. How would the human race learn without memory? How would students make the right decisions? How would everyone remember feelings? We wouldn t. Memory is the only way to hang onto those precious moments that humanity wishes would come back. Memory is also sometimes bad, nevertheless, that shapes everyone into how they are. But what could humans do without something like reminiscence? People can answer operose dilemmas by looking for what others in comparable situations. It helped them to do what they thought was right. For example, if a president wanted to know how to stop a war, he could look back to a previous war, and see what techniques they used to win. • 8. LDCT Screening According to recent studies at Indiana Universty School of Medicine, alternative methods for detecting non small cell lung cancer are emerging. The current methods of detecting NSCLC may be effective, but they are also very expensive. One method called a low dose computed tomography (LDCT) has been successful in identifying malignant tumors. However, routine LDCT screenings would result in 1.3 to 2 billion dollars nationally in health care costs annually. Deig, Mendonca, and Lautenschlaeger suggest that pursuing other methods of screening for NSCLC would significantly decrease this cost. If screenings could be conducted in a cost efficient and effective manner, then the expensive LDCT procedure would only have to be conducted for patients who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease. By measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before recommending expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One of these biomarkers that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs are molecules that are involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous cells. A study in cancer patients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with microRNAs to screening with LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at identifying cancer as LDCT, but since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can identify patients that should undergo LCDT testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially would decrease the number of patients paying for LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA refers to fragments of DNA from tumors found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study indicated that observing ct DNA could have multiple useful applications for oncologists. Ct DNA analysis during treatment could serve as an indication of how tumors react to treatment methods and whether recurrence is likely. Detecting ct DNA in the bloodstream could even serve as an early sign of cancer, observable before imaging tests even show tumors. However, ct DNA analysis has not yet proved to be a replacement for LDCT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Literary Analysis Of Bule De Suif While at first glance Maupassant s story Boule de Suif seems to merely be a story of fellow travelers and their struggles to continue their journey, it in fact presents a more political and patriotic view of their journey and quarrels. The main characters, all of whom are French, are crowded together on a stagecoach and begin discussing their distaste and hatred for the Prussians, and their pride for the heroic acts of the French in the war. While the story begins with pride and patriotism for the groups country, it will become apparent by the end that the prostitute Boule de Suif is in fact the only true patriot of the group. This sense of patriotism found in Boule de Suif also allows for a very unique insight into the political and economic themes residing within the story itself. Within the traveling group an odd mix of people come together to make for a very interesting position regarding social class and politics. Among the group there are nuns, prostitutes and members of the high class society of France. While they all come from different ways of life, they all experience the same sympathy and pride in their country and their distaste for the Prussians and the terrible things done by them . Even with this common pride for their country one cannot help to notice the symbolism and imagery of each character s distinct social class and role. In the first scenes of the story a certain disrespect is shown to Boule de Suif due to her low standards of living and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Natasha is suggesting that she will help Scott to find a woman (line 4) while Ian and Helen both suggest that they would see the other person again as a friend (line 5) or to have a laugh (line 3). It appears that in order to decrese the potential disappointment, the rejecting party proposes alternative options. Thus it seems that they are treating the situations as calling for remedial action (Couper Kuhlen, 2012: p. 456) and using the alternative suggestion as a tool of face work. People who have the ... The bald on record strategy is usually applied when the participants both feel no redress is necessary for the sake of efficiency. However, this does not seem to be the case in these situations, seeing that the majority of the other participants use redressive actions. Consequently, Kat and Fran might come across as slightly impolite to the audience. It is even suggested by Goffman (1967) that a person who can witness another person s chagrin without feeling uncomfortable is seen as heartless . This is indicated by Collin as well when he calls Fran a cruel mistress in line 8, even though it can be assumed it is not meant as a serious insult considering their joking conversations that they had during the date. Whether by complimenting the other party or suggesting alternatives, all rejecting parties except for two tried to minimize the face threat. I is divided into non residential investment (such as factories) and residential investment (new houses). Net investment deducts depreciation from gross investment. It is the value of the net increase in the capital stock per year. Investment, as production over a period of time ( per year ), is not capital. The time dimension of investment makes it a flow. By contrast, capital is a stock, that is, an accumulation measurable at a point in time (say December 31st). Investment is often modeled as a function of Income and Interest rates, given by the relation I = f(Y, r). An increase in income encourages higher investment, whereas a higher interest rate may discourage investment as it becomes more costly to borrow money. Even if a firm chooses to use its own funds in an investment, the interest rate represents an opportunity cost of investing those funds rather than loaning them out for interest. Finance Approach In finance, investment = cost of capital, like buying securities or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the money markets or capital markets, or in fairly liquid real assets, such as gold, real ... The East Facade of the Louvre is hard to define its style because of Perrault s theory and Le vau s influence. A historian, Blunt, argues that the facade shows the Baroque and Classical style at the same time. He wrote, The Colonnade has no exact parallel in French architecture, but it is the first example in this art of the style of Louis XIV. In certain respects it is Baroque: the scale of the Order, the depth given by the free standing colonnade, the variety of rhythm due to the coupling of the columns. In other ways it is more strictly classical than earlier French work: the clear and simple definition of the masses, the straight line of the front (in contrast to the curves of most of the Italian designs and even Le Vau s first scheme), the severe and almost unbroken entablatures, and the purity of detail in the Order and the mouldings. Both of these founders are considered two of the most influential philosophers and spiritual leaders native to China. Both emerged as a result of the fall of the Zhou Dynasty (Sellman, 2006). Both of these religions encourage their followers to live well rounded lives. Taoism is centered in nature and how it can make one s life better and Confucianism is based on harmony with society. It is an all encompassing way of life focused on morals, humanity and ethics, and teaches that each person should behave virtuously in every social setting (Mei, 2017).
