The Use Of Force Analysis
The Use of Force by William Carlos Williams is told from the first person point of view which
allows a reader to see the changes in the doctor s mind as he transitions from professional to
completely unprofessional. The doctor goes from being a professional concerned with a young girl
s health to an animalistic, pedophilic, instinct driven person. At the beginning, the doctorgoes to the
patient s home where he is met with a poverty stricken family. The family is clean despite their
living conditions. The parents are very concerned for their daughter s health as the doctor notes
they are spending three dollars on his visit to know what is wrong with her. The young girl, named
Matilda, has had a fever and the doctor knows that there has been... Show more content on

At the beginning of the story, the doctor can not help but notice the young girl s attractiveness
and her magnificent blond hair, in profusion . He notes that her looks are those of advertisement
worthy children and that her stare infatuates him. Later during the battle the doctor puts a
phallic tongue depressor in the child s throat to which she fought so desperately with clenched
teeth she ended up breaking the tongue depressor in her mouth and caused it to start bleeding.
The doctor, instead of acknowledging that he is actually hurting Matilda, becomes furious at her
and thinks I tried to hold myself down but I couldn t . This is a young girl bleeding from the
mouth and a vision of pure terror, yet the doctor only becomes more violent, determined and
aroused by the power. The doctor thinks to himself that he knows he should have let the child be
and have tried again in an hour or so when she had calmed down, yet his instincts tell him we re
going through with this. . The doctor is fully aware that he has become irrational and
unprofessional as he thinks, I too had got beyond reason. I could have torn the child apart in my
own fury and enjoyed it. It was a pleasure to attack her. My face was burning with it. . This is a
blatant example of dominant sexual force. He justifies his feelings by saying he must protect the
damned little brat

How Are Maggie And Dee Alike
Some sisters have a great relationship, but some do not. The characteristics of both sisters shape
that relationship. Although Dee and Maggie are sisters in the story Everyday Use , they have
many characteristics that are different, but they also have a few characteristics that are similar. Dee
and Maggie both differ in the characteristics of being assertive and being familyoriented, but they
share the characteristic of being clever. Firstly, Dee and Maggie differ in the characteristic of
assertiveness. From the very beginning, one can notice that Dee is a lot more assertive than
Maggie. In fact, it can be said that Maggie is not assertive at all; she is submissive. Dee is decisive
and confident even when she was young. Dee will not take... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They both are clever. Even though they are both clever, they are clever in different ways. Dee is
educated when it comes to academics. For example, Mama says that Dee went to Augusta to
school and learned many things, But that was before we raised the money, the church and me,
to send her to Augusta to school... She washed us in a river of make believe, burned us with a
lot of knowledge we didn t necessarily need to know, (Page 79). Dee is very clever because she
went to Augusta, Georgia for school and is knowledgeable in subjects related to academics. Her
knowledge on those subjects still doesn t mean that it is any use to her family directly.
Likewise, Maggie is also very clever. Maggie may not be as educated as Dee, but she is still very
clever. Maggie shows how clever she is when she says this, Aunt Dee s first husband whittled the
dash... His name was Henry, but they called him Stash. At that, Dee comments, Maggie s brain
is like an elephant s, (Page 81). Maggie is clever because she can remember things from a long
time ago. Dee acknowledges this fact by comparing her brain to an elephant s. An elephant can
also remember things from the past well too. Maggie s ability to remember events is what makes
her clever. Therefore, Maggie and Dee both share the characteristic of being

Big Ideas For The Great Gatsby
I think one of the big ideas that the novel deals with is the importance of feelings versus wants
and needs when making a decision, as exemplified by Daisy s struggle to overcome her own
selfish desires and simply love Gatsby for who he is as opposed to his bank account. Many of the
characters have a war with materialism, with Daisy and Tom falling prey to it and characters such
as the narrator becoming disgusted by it. This theme also hints at the complexity of the novel,
because materialism itself was fueled by the lavish spirit of the times, where people who had more
things were subsequently those with a higher social standing and influence, and everyone felt a
pressing need to satisfy their material desires, at the expense of the dreams

Rates of Violence
Rates of Violence Introduction Crime, according to Emile Durkheim, is a normal component of
society. The iconic psychologist said that in the 19th century. But crime is considered abnormal
in England, the United States, and in Canada; this paper presents data on the three nations
mentioned above. United States Murder: According to the FBI, there were an estimated 14,748
individuals murdered in 2010 in the U.S., which is down by 4.2 percent from 2009. There were
4.8 murders per 100,000 inhabitants and 44 percent of the murders took place in the South, 20.6
percent in the West, 19.9 percent in the Midwest and 15.6 percent in the Northeast. Aggravated
Assault: Also in 2010, there were an estimated 778,901 aggravated assaults in the United States,
the FBI reports. That is a decline by 4.1 percent from the year 2009, and a decline of 14.3 percent
from 2001. There were approximately 252.3 assaults per 100,000 people and 27.4 percent were
carried out with hands, fists, or feet ; 20.6 percent were committed using firearms; 19 percent
were committed with knives or other cutting instruments, the FBI reports. Forcible Rape: the
FBI report indicates an estimated 84,767 forcible rapes were reported in 2010, down 5 percent from
2009. There were 54.2 rapes per 100,000 females. Robbery: As to robberies in 2010, the FBI
estimates there were 367,832 robberies, that is down 10 percent from the data in 2009. There was
one robbery per 100,000 inhabitants. England Murder: The

My Own First Aid Kit
When I was young, many of the neighborhood kids and I would enjoy playing outside. Whether it
was sports, ride bikes, or roller skate, the activities we partook in always involved physical
activity and thus, a higher risk of getting hurt. When such an incident occurred, which was quite
often, we would at times not be able to do much about it since most of our parents worked. We
would rely on them for first aid but when they were gone all of us would not know how to handle
such a situation. This always bothered me so I started learning a few ways to treat minor
wounds. I began to treat any scrapes or scratches we got from falls or that resulted from any
activities we were doing at the time. I eventually purchased my own first aid kit with my savings
at the age of fourteen and would use it on my friends and even my family when needed. From a
young age, I developed an interest in providing first aid to people and became very happy when I
saw one of my friends or family members recover from minor wounds that I assisted in during the
healing process. My sense of fulfillment towards making a positive impact amongst the community
brought to light that public healthwas right for me. Public healthis a science and practice that offers
protection and ensures that a community has improved health. This is achieved through the use of
preventive medicine and controlling communicable diseases. Other measures include providing
sanitary measures and health education to the public. As I

Asian-American Stereotypes
Asian culture has been slandered throughout America s history by the term Model Minority , and
through it s toxic ideals has lead to outstanding rates of depression, and the inhumane backlash has
proven fatal to the Asian American population. The term Model Minority was coined to categorize
Asian Americans in 1966, during the United Statescivil liberties movement. During this time period
white politicians were in a state of agitation because African Americans were demanding their civil
rights(Chin). The stereotype associated with the term model minority is a suffocating archetype
that has been pushed onto Asian Americans; this degrading term has a harsh history that has led to

Stephanie grew up in the 80 s, while Katherine is still a student. Stephanie Johnson said that her

Joseph Campbell Definition Of A Hero
A hero is someone who has given her or his life to something bigger than oneself. A quote from
Joseph Campbell, this quote can represent a lot for a definition of what a hero is. A hero is
someone who gives something for something they believe is bigger. That s my representative of
that quote. Something that makes a heroor a function is they have to step out of their ordinary life.
A hero usually steps out of his or her ordinary life to do something or to give something up for
something bigger. They have to step out and do something out of the ordinary for them. A hero is

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (USDA)
Food insecurity is a term that was introduced by the United States Department of Agriculture
(USDA). The USDA labels the insecurity based on the severity with four different groups. One
group is the Low Food Security; which means low quality, desirability or variety but no or little
reduction of food. Very Low Food Securityis reduced foodintake and multiple disruptions of eating
patterns. The opposite spectrum is High Food Security. This is no food limitations or no issues
accessing food. Marginal food security is sufficient supply of food with some concern of ability to
supply. (USDA, https://www.ers.usda.gov/topics/food nutritionassistance/food security in the us

Low Back Pain Essay
2.1 Low back pain:
2.1.1 Anatomy of the lower back
The lower back is made up of various structures which interlink with each other (12). Pain mostly
occurs in the Lumbar region which is medically referred to as L1 to L5. This region supports the
weight of the upper body (12). Between each vertebra are discs which act as shock absorbers,
and provide cushioning when the body moves. They are designed to have a soft nucleus pulposus,
the central part, and a firm outer ring, the annulus fibrosus (13). The central area is capable of
rupturing which could result in a herniated disc, while the outer ring can cause irritation of the
adjacent nervous tissue and possibly lead to sciatica (13). The vertebrae are held in place by
ligaments made up of strong fibrous tissue. Tendons also connect the muscles to the spinal column
(12) (13).
According to Walter J. Koroshetz (2014), thirty one pairs of nerves are connected to the spinal cord.
They assist with controlling the movements of the body, provide sensation as well as stimulation to
the muscles of the lower back and lower extremities (13). All of these nerves exit the lumbar spinal
column through bony portals called the foramen (13). They are also responsible for signals
transmitted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This region is important in allowing the range of motion. (14) Firstly the Multifidus, which travels
almost the entire length of the back, aids with stabilization and rotation of the lumbar spine.
Secondly the Longissimus, another long muscle, which originates in the middle of the lumbar spine,
aids with neck and vertebral column extension. Thirdly, the Spinalis, is seen as a superficial muscle.
It originates as a thick tendon from the sacrum and continues up into the neck. With contraction,
this muscle extends the neck and vertebral column and assists in maintaining a good posture.

Application Of A Smart Home
ABSTRACT Residential area consume a lot of energy and electricity. The lack of energy
resources give impact to the rise of energy cost, thus to have a convenient home is extremely
important in the future. One of the way to reduce the costs in this issue is by using the energy
efficiently. The idea of energy saving is applied in the concept of a smart home. This project
aims to develop an algorithm to estimate the energy plans for future periods in a smart home in
order to achieve energy efficiency. Using the Household Demand Side Management (DSM)
systems, the total usage of energy in the future can be predicted according to the demand supply
in the smart home. Furthermore, it is estimated that the simultaneousness between production
and consumption of the electricity will be increasing. In this case, the house owner should be
able to manage and plan to use the electricity wisely. Powerful tools such as MATLAB / Simulink
allow the design, analysis and simulation of this project. This project will in divided into various
stages including researching, experimenting, modelling, testing and designing in order to
achieve the required objectives. TABLE OF CONTENTS CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION1 1.1

Introduction Having the privilege to serve in the military has allowed this writer the opportunity
to be exposed to the pluralistic society in a way which has exposed him to the beauty of the
diversity enjoyed in American culture. One aspect of said diversity is the interaction which has
taken place amongst the Christian and various world religions who also wear the same uniform
in defense of America. It was the pleasure of the writer to attend a local synagogue in which his
Jewish brothers and sisters welcomed him with open arms. The local congregation of Jewish
believers went out of their way in order to ensure their newest visitor understood the flow of
service and the significance of the ritual which took place on the first Shabbat or Sabbath of the

beliefs of Judaism compare/contrast with the Christian faith.

Analysis Of Arrival
Many science fiction movies often have a common theme either the aliens or turn into a generic
overwhelming threat and humanity has to band together to fight against them, like in the films
such as Independence Day and Battle: Los Angeles, or the aliens are use as a more colorful
backdrop to make the universe seem more diverse, such as in the films Star Trek and Star Wars,
or they are left entirely out and focus on humanity s endeavors into space and their failings.
Arrival, however, is a science fiction film that uses the premise of an alien invasion to disguise an
even deeper meaning. Arrival uses this premise to tackle the issue of xenophobia. Xenophobia is
an intense or irrational fear or dislike of people from a foreign country or culture. The film, Arrival,
is a testament against xenophobia and shows that if humanity were to overcome their fear of the
unknown and work together, they may achieve a great number of things. In Denis Villeneuve s
science fiction filmArrival, the director explores a very different view of reality, akin the guise of
an alien invasion. Arrival is based on the 1998 novella Story of Your Life, by Ted Chiang, the story
contemplates the difficult task and the consequences of communicating with an alien species
during first contact. The film opens up when twelve extraterrestrial spaceships appear at twelve
different places around the globe. Colonel Weber, a U.S. Army officer, recruits Louise Banks, a
linguist, and Ian Donnelly, a physicist,

Richard Nixon And The Watergate Scandal
Richard Nixon and the Watergate Scandal Richard Nixon was a widely accepted president before
the Watergate break in which changed American views on government forever. The Watergate
Scandal started when five men, Frank Sturgis, Bernard Barker, Virgilio Gonzalez, James McCord,
and Eugenio Martinez known as CREEP, broke into the Watergate complex
in order to bug the office
with microphones to hear the plans for the upcoming election. However this plan backfired when
the five men were arrested leading investigations to trace back to the White House and later
President Nixon. Watergate was the largest government scandal in American history, affecting the
lives of Americans, their trust in government, and forced the only resignation of a U.S. President....

After the events that took place and Nixon s resignation, a massive trend of distrust in the
government began. Even today a wide majority of people still do not trust the American
government, this is one of the greatest effects the scandal had on the United States. One law that
was created due to impact of Watergate was the Sunshine Act, the Sunshine Act is a law that
requires government agencies to be open and public to Americans. Another law that was passed
was the Ethics in Government Act of 1978, what this law stated was that public officials had to
make financial disclosures and former employment public, and led to the creation of Office of
Government Ethics an executive agency responsible for issuing rules and regulations about ethical
conduct and financial disclosure, providing training in ethics, monitoring the ethics of practices in
departments and agencies, and giving guidance on matters of ethics. (USLegal). At the end of the
whole scandal many government officials had been jailed, but there were three major figures
involved in the scandal known as the Big Three . John N. Mitchell, John D. Ehrlichman, and H.R.

sentenced to two and a half years in prison for their involvement in the scandal. Finally the last

Asotyping In The Film Dr. Strangelove
In the film Dr. Strangelove , Stanley Kubrick took a difficult issue and transformed it into a
political comedy. He parodies the dangerous idea of an atomic war and the crazy people who were
planning it. Moreover, he tends to the issue of stereotyping. General Jack Ripper is the main
character in the film who is in the U.S. Air Force and goes completely insane, and sends bomber
wings to destroy the U.S.S.R. He thinks that the communists are conspiring to pollute the precious
bodily fluids of the American people. When the U.S. President finds out he meets with his advisors,
nuclear scientist, Turgidson, and Dr. Strangelovea former Nazi in the War Room to discuss how to
stop the attack on the Soviet Union from turning into a nuclear war. President Muffley brings
Soviet ambassador Alexi de Sadesky into the War Room and calls Soviet Premier Dimitri Kisov
on the phone to inform both on the situation. Mr. Sadesky then tells the President Muffley that if
the U.S.S.R. is hit by nuclear weapons, they will release their doomsday device which is said
can destroy all life on Earth. Now everyone in the War Room are displeased to learn about the
Doomsday Device and not knowing when it will be activated if any of Ripper s bomber wings

Lorenzo de Medici was the most powerful and enthusiastic patron of the Renaissance. He was an

The Game Of Basketball Has Changed The Past
The game of basketball has had great players in the in the past. Consist of players from NBA and
around the world that play professionally. In my opinion the all time list: Kareem Abdul Jabbar,
Wilt Chamberlin, Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, and
Larry Bird. At this moment the NBA is seeing newer talent rising like Jimmy Butler, Anthony
Davis, Russell Westbrook, and Hassan Whiteside. However, the players that I will be talking about
will be John Wall and Stephen Curry. The ultimate point guards in the league right know. With
the athleticism John Wall, jumping out the gym. Wall was the slam dunk contest champion

both of this guys have I can talk about them all day however, we are also going to mention how
it all started, their childhood. We are also going to take a look at what shoe endorsements each
player has and how much it effects the sneaker heads. Initially, John Wall was born in Raleigh,
North Carolina on September 6, 1990. Lacking the presence of Wall s father created a young
guy that did not take adults telling him what to do. Due to his dad s in and out of prison and
death when Wall was only 8 years old. Wall s dad died of liver cancer a month later when he was

that the characters Taylor, Turtle, Estevan and Esperanza all experience.
Taylor shows rebirth in many ways, but the start of it all was moving out of Kentucky. Taylor

A Research On How Social Networking
Many people worldwide are affiliated with social networks everyday. Keith Wilcox and Andrew
Stephan s did a research on how social networking, particularly Facebook, was used to boost one
s self esteem with tie strengths. Tie strength can be defined as strong or weak. Strong ties can be
described as the close connection to their friends, while weak ties are considered their
acquaintances that are distant friends (Wilcox Stephan, 2013, p. 92). Wilcox is an assistant
professor at Columbia University, teaching marketing. While Stephen, is [an] assistant professor of

Wilcox and Stephan s hypothesis propose that the enhanced self esteem from browsing a social
network will momentarily lower self control, leading people to display less self control after
browsing a social network compared to those who did not browse a social network (Wilcox
Stephan, 2013, p.92). Since people care more about their image to strong ties, this effect will be
on people who are focused on strong ties while browsing the social network. Wilcox and Stephan
expect social network use to have little effect on the self control of those focused on weak ties
while browsing a social network (2013, p.92). This paper will help one understand their motives
that take place while social networking. Five studies were done through out this paper, but only
three were very supportive of their theory. The first study focused on proving social networking
use increases self esteem primarily for those focused on strong ties while browsing the network
(Wilcox Stephan, 2013, p. 93). They expected that those focused on strong ties would have a
positive impact on self esteem, but what they did not expect was the same for weak ties as well.
The methodology for this was done by design, survey and experimentation. They took 100 random
US participants and put them into four different groups. The groups were browsing: Facebook
versus no Facebook (Wilcox % Stephan, 2013,

Smiley. Jim Smiley was a good guy, but he also liked to make bets. Smiley had never lost a bet

Empathy In The Healthcare Field
In the healthcare field, empathy is an essential trait. Without empathy, patients can get depressed

Montagu And Capulet In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Once upon a time there lived in Verona two great families named Montagu and Capulet. They
were both rich, and I suppose they were as sensible, in most things, as other rich people. But in
one thing they were extremely silly. There was an old, old quarrel between the two families, and
instead of making it up like reasonable folks, they made a sort of pet of their quarrel, and would
not let it die out. So that a Montagu wouldn t speak to a Capulet if he met one in the street nor a
Capulet to a Montagu or if they did speak, it was to say rude and unpleasant things, which often
ended in a fight. And their relations and servants were just as foolish, so that street fights and
duels and uncomfortablenesses of that kind were always growing out of the Montagu and
Capulet quarrel. Now Lord Capulet, the head of that family, gave a party a grand supper and a
dance and he was so hospitable that he said anyone might come to it except (of course) the
Montagues. But there was a young Montagu named Romeo, who very much wanted to be there,
because Rosaline, the lady he loved, had been asked. This lady had never been at all kind to
him, and he had no reason to love her; but the fact was that he wanted to love somebody, and as
he hadn t seen the right lady, he was obliged to love the wrong one. So to the Capulet s grand
party he came, with his friends Mercutio and Benvolio. Old Capulet welcomed him and his two
friends very kindly and young Romeo moved about among the crowd of courtly

The Louisiana Territory And How It Changed America Forever
The American landscape has always been that of great majestic glory. But this was not always so.
The westward expansion was not always in the cards for the Americans. The French had mostly
settled from the Mississippi River in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west and from the Gulf
of Mexico in the south to the Canadian border in the north. With the Louisiana Purchasethe U.S
acquired most of that land. How did this land help define the United Statesof America as a Nation?
This essay will discuss the actions leading up to the Acquirement of the Louisiana territory and how
it changed America forever.
In 1762 France ceded French Louisiana west of the Mississippi River to Spain. The French also
transferred almost all of its remaining North American holdings to Britain in 1763. Spain was no
longer a dominant country and they did little to develop Louisiana during the next three decades in
which they held it. Spain in 1796 allied itself with France causing Britain in a bold move to use its
navy to cut off the Spanish from reaching America.
The Spanish in 1801 signed in secret, a treaty with France to return Louisiana Territory to
France. This set off a series of concerns for the Americans. Americans had been moving westward
into the Ohio River and Tennessee River valley areas since the 1780 s and the Port of New Orleans
was a strategic port of entry as well as the Mississippi River which was needed if the U.S was going
to be able to ship good through the Gulf of Mexico.

The Great Depression in Alex Kershaw s The Bedford Boys
Bedford Boys 1. How did the Great Depression affect the town of Bedford before the war? What
programs were offered in the town to help alleviate the Depression? How did it motivate many
of the men to join the National Guard? The Great Depression affected people all over the United
States of America and the people of the town of Bedford, Virginia perhaps worse than many
others. Bedford, in the time before the Great Depression, had an economy that was primarily
based upon agriculture. One family from Bedford, the Stevens boys, was an example of the
people who were financially destabilized by the Depression (Kershaw 2003, 10). The banks often
foreclosed on lands which had been in the hands of local families for generations, making scores
of people homeless and without employment. Everyone was called upon to do whatever was
possible to make ends meet. One man, Dickie Overstreet, had somehow gotten by in the worst
years of the Depression through supplying vegetables and meat to Dickie s aunt, who owned the
Dutch Inn, a boardinghouse in Bedford (Kershaw 2003, 60). Some people sold their property and
took whatever jobs were available. People s pride and vanity soon vanished when it became
apparent that the alternative was starvation and destitution. With the administration of Franklin
Delano Roosevelt and the implementation of the New Deal works projects, things became better
for many people in Bedford and throughout the nation. One of the potential job opportunities for

The Exodus Of The Beginning Of Israel
Exodus marks the start of Israel as a people. They were an extended family, under a dynasty of
strong pharaohs. They oppressed Israel and put them to forced labor, for fear of their number size.
Still, they multiplied faster, therefore, a decree was issued to destroy them by ordering the death of
all baby boys.
At this particular time Moses was born, from the tribe of Levi. Although trained as the son of
Pharaoh s daughter, yet, his own mother was hired to care for him due to her placing him in the
bulrushes at the edge of the Nile River to not be destroyed because of Pharaoh s order to kill all
baby boys. With his mother caring for him, he grew up knowing the plight of his people. Many
years passed approximately 80 when God appeared to Moses as a shepherd in Midian, in a burning
bush and commanded him to go return to Egypt to rescue the Israelites out of slavery.
From Egypt to Mt. Sinai
Moses was a new beginning for the Israelites. Moses was obedient to God and followed God s
pattern Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:1 11. He was also the forerunner (foreshadow of Christ) 2
Timothy 1:8 10. He was chosen by God to free Israel from Egypt Exodus 6:1 13. This was also the
fourth generation since Jacob Exodus 16 26.
The stage was set for Pharaoh to witness God s awesome power through Moses Exodus 7 9.

healthy? And, where is our food coming from, how is it treated, and what is in the food we eat?
Throughout the book Pollan places his own argument alongside the answers to these questions. He
moves the reader to reflect on the evidence presented about eating organic foods rather than

The Most Important Aspects Of Family Values
Everyone has values that they consider to be the most important aspects of their life. For me, these
values are family and friendship. In many occasions, it is those who have less, but have strong
familial and friendship bonds that seem to be the happiest. Through family bonds and friendship,
we are able to have happy, fulfilling lives that money and success can not quite achieve. In the
CASL building, during the photowalk, I observed my surroundings to find the photos that I took. In
the photos I took, a Macbethposter and a quinceaГ±era, we can see why I feel that these bonds are
of utmost importance. The Macbeth poster shows that power comes with a price and cannot bring
true happinessthrough the facial expression and the skull being in the shape of a crown. While the
quinceaГ±era photo shows that having familyand friends surrounding you can bring you happiness.
However, the music videos that were viewed in class display different values from my own. In
these, the core values displayed are black empowerment and bringing awareness to discrimination
that the African American community face as a whole. Although these are vastly important, they
do not connect fully with my values.
In the first photo taken, we are able to see why family and friendship are the most significant
values. The photo is of a quinceaГ±era that is taking place at the Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic
Church. In the photo, we see the girl being blessed by the priest while all of her family and friends

How Did Mary Anne Change In The Sweetheart Of The Song Tra...
In the chapter, The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , we meet an interesting character named
Mary Anne. She was a seventeen year old lady who just got out of high school and went to visit
her boyfriend Mark Fossie in Vietnam. It started out as just visiting a childhood sweetheart, except
it all changed in a matter of weeks. Mary Anne began to take too much interest and she became
engulfed in Vietnam. She wasn t all too careful, rather than her swallowing the land, she was
swallowed whole by it. Vietnam changed Mary Anne into something she never thought that she
would become, she changed into a lone soldier, physically, behaviorally and psychologically. The
first was Mary Anne changed was physically. When Mary Anne first arrived, she was described

When Mary Anne came to Vietnam, she was described as happy (89), curious (91) along with
having a good sharp mind (93). Mary Anne was just a normal teenage lady just out of high
school and the war intrigued her (91) She enjoyed learning learning everything that the guys
taught her. Her curiosity symbolizes how adventurous she could be, and foreshadows how lost
she would become. Her sharp mind symbolized how ready she was to be in the combat zone and
how fast she learned things. Her downfall of learning everything about how the soldiers live and
the land was how empty she became. She was there, but not completely at all. Shoulders hunched,
her blue eyes opaque, she seemed to disappear inside herself (100) I think that this quote
symbolizes the battle that she is facing within herself, whether she should go back to her own life,
or stay in a place that makes her feel brave and fierce. Vietnam had the effect of a powerful drug:
that mix of unnamed terror and unnamed pleasure (109). Mary Anne went and became addicted to
the drug, to the point where she basically didn t have any rational thinking. Her happiness was
gone, her curiosity was empty, she mentally wasn t the same Mary Anne that showed up the first

all visitors must sign the visitor s book, security camera systems are in place, password protection

Civil Society Brewing Case Study
March 19th, 2016 forever changed the beer landscape for Jupiter, Florida. This was the first of what
will be many bottle and/or can releases for one of the newest breweries to grace the South Florida
horizon. A woman walking by asked me what the line was for. I proceeded to explain how Civil
Society Brewing was having their first bottle release which in this case was in the form a 32oz
crowler. 375 crowlers (3 per person) would, in fact, be released to fans who had come from as far
away as Miami. What is Pulp you ask? Well, it is an American pale wheat ale that comes in at
6.3% abv. Civil takes the wheat beer to a whole new level by lovingly caressing it with Columbus
and Mosaic hops which give it the sweet smell and taste of a myriad of citrus flavors. Pulp pours
with just the slightest of yellow haze... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We opened a growler of Tree House Brewing s Double Shot, a bottle of Hardywood Park Craft
Breweries Foolery, and a bottle of Casey Brewing s East Bank. By the time 11:00am had rolled
around the line had reached 67 craft beer loving souls. The doors were opened and ID s were
checked. The whole process ran very smooth. Folks waited in line for a few minutes until
reaching the front where they chose a wristband which was color coordinated with the number
of crowlers they were purchasing. Once the wristband was received we were able to purchase
something from the tap menu. Other than Pulp the two hits of the morning seemed to be the
two treatments of Gary. Gary is Civil s milk stout which was treated with Hazelnuts for Gary
goes nuts and with bananas foster for Gary goes bananas. I m usually not a big fan of hazelnut
beers, but Gary goes nuts was delicious. Gary goes bananas was also very good, but the hazelnut
took the win for me. The last crowler of Pulp was sold just before 2:00pm to finish off Civil s first
release with flying

Louis Joseph Watteau s Contribution to French Art
Louis Joseph Watteau Introduction What was Watteau s Contribution to French Art Louis
Joseph Watteau from Lille, France, who was also known as Watteau of Lille, was part of a
family of noted artists and painters during the 18th Century. He was born April 10, 1731, and he
died on August 27, 1798. Louis was the great nephew of great painter Jean Antoine Watteau and
he was the son of Joseph Watteau (1689 1756) and the brother of Jean Antoine Watteau. Hence,
it is clear that Louis Joseph Watteau had the advantage of being part of an extremely talented
family. Louis Joseph Watteau was apparently instrumental in the creation of the museum of Fine
Arts in Lille (which was launched in 1803 but much of the groundwork for this museum was laid
by Watteau). (Art Finding). According to Art Finding, Louis Joseph Watteau was the individual
responsible for the В¦first inventory of paintings confiscated during the French Revolution.
Watteau was an apprentice in 1738 1739 (at the age of 7 and 8) prior to moving to Paris to study
with Jacques Dumont ( the Roman ). Watteau also studied at the Royal Academy of Painting and
Sculpture and in 1755 (at the age of 24) he was appointed to be professor of art at the School of
Design in Lille (Art Finding). In 1757 Louis Joseph Watteau married Agnes Dandois in Maubeuge,
France, and the couple had 12 children, including Francis. He is considered one of the main
architects of the founding of the Academy of Valenciennes in 1783 (Art Finding).

The Impact Of Native Schools On M Ж’Г„ Ori Society Essay
Discuss the impact of the introduction of native schools on MДЃori society.
The establishment of Native Schools around New Zealand in 1867 had many pulverizing effects
which exceeded the few benefits associated with having Native Schools. Native Schools were
fundamentally village day schools set up in rustic areas providing MДЃori children with European
education under the Native Schools Act 1867. Native Schools were managed to be a medium for
the State to gain social control over the MДЃori population and to assimilate MДЃori into civilised
law abiding citizens . This essay will investigate how the State promoted/pushed cultural
homogeneity through the education system at Native Schools as an approach to attain their ideal
outlook of Europeanising and gaining full control over the MДЃori population and their resources.
MДЃori and PДЃkehДЃ had very different aspirations for the establishment of Native Schools from
the very start (Bishop 1996:76). While MДЃori wanted to further enhance their knowledge to battle
the threat forced by the vicinity of PДЃkehДЃ the main focus of the State was merely to control
MДЃori society through assimilation (Simon 1998:106). The fact that MДЃori had to provide land
for which the school was to be built on, and to additionally pay for half the portion of the
development expenses of the school and one quarter of the teacher s wages demonstrates that the
setting up of native schools resulted in a financial burden to the MДЃori society (Duncan 2014).

Beauty Is A Beauty And Beautiful Thing
Beauty is a Beast to Obtain A human body is considered a sacred and beautiful thing. It s widely
complex, with millions of different aspects and parts that make humanity amazingly different
than other species in the world. However, the social construction of feminine beauty brings about
issues of what is truly beautiful. Most countries have a different viewpoint, such as being bare
chested or having a stretched neck. In America, female beauty is something that many argue
over, but there is a clear consensus on some things: women should be skinny, but not too thin;
blonde, but not bleach blonde; fit, but not masculine; tan, but not orange; and of course, the
classic big boobs, big ass, but an absolutely tiny waist. A majority of these are completely
unnatural and require a great deal of work, or even surgery, to even come close to acquiring. In
The Body Beautiful by Rosalind Coward, the reality of expectations on beauty is clearly and
concisely laid out, making clear that our construction of beauty is very flawed. An interesting
point Coward brings up is the valuation of immaturity . This is a concept that focuses on making
the female body more sexually attractive by making it seem prepubescent. The shaving of legs
and armpits is one example Coward focuses on, but another factor could also be the quite
disgusting craze of the sexy schoolgirl . Practically every Halloween, one can find a costume in
the local Walmart or CVS featuring a low cut blouse and a few

Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin Essay
Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney :
Eli Whitney was the inventor of the cotton gin and a pioneer in the mass production of cotton.
Whitney was born in Westboro , Massachusetts., on Dec. 8, 1765, and died on Jan. 8, 1825. He
graduated from Yale College in 1792. By April 1793, Whitney had designed and constructed the
cotton gin, a machine that automated the separation of cottonseed from the short staple cotton fiber.
Eli Whitney s machine could produce up to 23 kg (50 lb) of cleaned cotton daily, making southern
cotton a profitable crop for the first time, but Whitney failed to profit from his invention, imitations
of his machine appeared, and his 1794 invention was not upheld until 1807.

Ironically, it was as a manufacturer of muskets that Whitney finally became rich.
Background on the Cotton Gin
The cotton gin is a device for removing the seeds from cotton fiber. Simple devices for that
purpose have been around for centuries, an East Indian machine called a charka was used to
separate the seeds from the lint when the fiber was pulled through a set of rollers. The charka was
designed to work with long staple cotton, but American cotton is short staple cotton. The cottonseed
in Colonial America was removed by hand, usually the work of slaves.
Eli Whitney s machine was the first to clean short staple cotton. His cotton engine consisted of
spiked teeth mounted on a boxed revolving cylinder which, when turned by a crank, pulled the
cotton fiber through small slotted openings so as to separate the seeds from the lint a rotating
brush, operated via a belt and pulleys, removed the fibrous lint from the projecting spikes.
The gins later became horse drawn and water powered gins and cotton production increased, along
with lowered costs. Cotton soon became the number one selling textile.
After the invention of the cotton gin, the yield of raw cotton doubled each decade after 1800.
Demand was fueled by other inventions of the Industrial Revolution, such as the machines to spin
and weave it and the steamboat to transport it. By mid century America was growing three quarters
of the world s supply of cotton, most

The Positive And Negative Effects Of Mosquitoes
According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control, every year more than 1.5 million people
around the globe lose their lives due to mosquito borne diseases (2012). A mosquito is an insect
which lives around the world, especially in tropical and subtropical countries. The mosquito has
both positive and negative effects. As part of positive effects, larvae of mosquitoes are food for
fish and dragonflies, and when mosquitoes consume nectar, they help the flowers to pollinate. On
the other hand, mosquitoes make people annoyed and cause many diseases. World Health
Organization (2016) explains that the mosquito is the greatest menace which causes many diseases

  • 2. The Use Of Force Analysis The Use of Force by William Carlos Williams is told from the first person point of view which allows a reader to see the changes in the doctor s mind as he transitions from professional to completely unprofessional. The doctor goes from being a professional concerned with a young girl s health to an animalistic, pedophilic, instinct driven person. At the beginning, the doctorgoes to the patient s home where he is met with a poverty stricken family. The family is clean despite their living conditions. The parents are very concerned for their daughter s health as the doctor notes they are spending three dollars on his visit to know what is wrong with her. The young girl, named Matilda, has had a fever and the doctor knows that there has been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the story, the doctor can not help but notice the young girl s attractiveness and her magnificent blond hair, in profusion . He notes that her looks are those of advertisement worthy children and that her stare infatuates him. Later during the battle the doctor puts a phallic tongue depressor in the child s throat to which she fought so desperately with clenched teeth she ended up breaking the tongue depressor in her mouth and caused it to start bleeding. The doctor, instead of acknowledging that he is actually hurting Matilda, becomes furious at her and thinks I tried to hold myself down but I couldn t . This is a young girl bleeding from the mouth and a vision of pure terror, yet the doctor only becomes more violent, determined and aroused by the power. The doctor thinks to himself that he knows he should have let the child be and have tried again in an hour or so when she had calmed down, yet his instincts tell him we re going through with this. . The doctor is fully aware that he has become irrational and unprofessional as he thinks, I too had got beyond reason. I could have torn the child apart in my own fury and enjoyed it. It was a pleasure to attack her. My face was burning with it. . This is a blatant example of dominant sexual force. He justifies his feelings by saying he must protect the damned little brat ... • 3. How Are Maggie And Dee Alike Some sisters have a great relationship, but some do not. The characteristics of both sisters shape that relationship. Although Dee and Maggie are sisters in the story Everyday Use , they have many characteristics that are different, but they also have a few characteristics that are similar. Dee and Maggie both differ in the characteristics of being assertive and being familyoriented, but they share the characteristic of being clever. Firstly, Dee and Maggie differ in the characteristic of assertiveness. From the very beginning, one can notice that Dee is a lot more assertive than Maggie. In fact, it can be said that Maggie is not assertive at all; she is submissive. Dee is decisive and confident even when she was young. Dee will not take... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They both are clever. Even though they are both clever, they are clever in different ways. Dee is educated when it comes to academics. For example, Mama says that Dee went to Augusta to school and learned many things, But that was before we raised the money, the church and me, to send her to Augusta to school... She washed us in a river of make believe, burned us with a lot of knowledge we didn t necessarily need to know, (Page 79). Dee is very clever because she went to Augusta, Georgia for school and is knowledgeable in subjects related to academics. Her knowledge on those subjects still doesn t mean that it is any use to her family directly. Likewise, Maggie is also very clever. Maggie may not be as educated as Dee, but she is still very clever. Maggie shows how clever she is when she says this, Aunt Dee s first husband whittled the dash... His name was Henry, but they called him Stash. At that, Dee comments, Maggie s brain is like an elephant s, (Page 81). Maggie is clever because she can remember things from a long time ago. Dee acknowledges this fact by comparing her brain to an elephant s. An elephant can also remember things from the past well too. Maggie s ability to remember events is what makes her clever. • 4. Big Ideas For The Great Gatsby I think one of the big ideas that the novel deals with is the importance of feelings versus wants and needs when making a decision, as exemplified by Daisy s struggle to overcome her own selfish desires and simply love Gatsby for who he is as opposed to his bank account. Many of the characters have a war with materialism, with Daisy and Tom falling prey to it and characters such as the narrator becoming disgusted by it. This theme also hints at the complexity of the novel, because materialism itself was fueled by the lavish spirit of the times, where people who had more things were subsequently those with a higher social standing and influence, and everyone felt a pressing need to satisfy their material desires, at the expense of the dreams ... • 6. My Own First Aid Kit When I was young, many of the neighborhood kids and I would enjoy playing outside. Whether it was sports, ride bikes, or roller skate, the activities we partook in always involved physical activity and thus, a higher risk of getting hurt. When such an incident occurred, which was quite often, we would at times not be able to do much about it since most of our parents worked. We would rely on them for first aid but when they were gone all of us would not know how to handle such a situation. This always bothered me so I started learning a few ways to treat minor wounds. I began to treat any scrapes or scratches we got from falls or that resulted from any activities we were doing at the time. I eventually purchased my own first aid kit with my savings at the age of fourteen and would use it on my friends and even my family when needed. From a young age, I developed an interest in providing first aid to people and became very happy when I saw one of my friends or family members recover from minor wounds that I assisted in during the healing process. My sense of fulfillment towards making a positive impact amongst the community brought to light that public healthwas right for me. • 11. Low Back Pain Essay 2.1 Low back pain: 2.1.1 Anatomy of the lower back The lower back is made up of various structures which interlink with each other (12). Pain mostly occurs in the Lumbar region which is medically referred to as L1 to L5. This region supports the weight of the upper body (12). Between each vertebra are discs which act as shock absorbers, and provide cushioning when the body moves. They are designed to have a soft nucleus pulposus, the central part, and a firm outer ring, the annulus fibrosus (13). The central area is capable of rupturing which could result in a herniated disc, while the outer ring can cause irritation of the adjacent nervous tissue and possibly lead to sciatica (13). The vertebrae are held in place by ligaments made up of strong fibrous tissue. Tendons also connect the muscles to the spinal column (12) (13). According to Walter J. Koroshetz (2014), thirty one pairs of nerves are connected to the spinal cord. They assist with controlling the movements of the body, provide sensation as well as stimulation to the muscles of the lower back and lower extremities (13). • 13. Application Of A Smart Home ABSTRACT Residential area consume a lot of energy and electricity. The lack of energy resources give impact to the rise of energy cost, thus to have a convenient home is extremely important in the future. One of the way to reduce the costs in this issue is by using the energy efficiently. The idea of energy saving is applied in the concept of a smart home. This project aims to develop an algorithm to estimate the energy plans for future periods in a smart home in order to achieve energy efficiency. Using the Household Demand Side Management (DSM) systems, the total usage of energy in the future can be predicted according to the demand supply in the smart home. Furthermore, it is estimated that the simultaneousness between production and consumption of the electricity will be increasing. In this case, the house owner should be able to manage and plan to use the electricity wisely. Powerful tools such as MATLAB / Simulink allow the design, analysis and simulation of this project. This project will in divided into various stages including researching, experimenting, modelling, testing and designing in order to achieve the required objectives. • 16. Analysis Of Arrival Many science fiction movies often have a common theme either the aliens or turn into a generic overwhelming threat and humanity has to band together to fight against them, like in the films such as Independence Day and Battle: Los Angeles, or the aliens are use as a more colorful backdrop to make the universe seem more diverse, such as in the films Star Trek and Star Wars, or they are left entirely out and focus on humanity s endeavors into space and their failings. Arrival, however, is a science fiction film that uses the premise of an alien invasion to disguise an even deeper meaning. Arrival uses this premise to tackle the issue of xenophobia. Xenophobia is an intense or irrational fear or dislike of people from a foreign country or culture. The film, Arrival, is a testament against xenophobia and shows that if humanity were to overcome their fear of the unknown and work together, they may achieve a great number of things. In Denis Villeneuve s science fiction filmArrival, the director explores a very different view of reality, akin the guise of an alien invasion. Arrival is based on the 1998 novella Story of Your Life, by Ted Chiang, the story contemplates the difficult task and the consequences of communicating with an alien species during first contact. The film opens up when twelve extraterrestrial spaceships appear at twelve different places around the globe. Another law that was passed was the Ethics in Government Act of 1978, what this law stated was that public officials had to make financial disclosures and former employment public, and led to the creation of Office of Government Ethics an executive agency responsible for issuing rules and regulations about ethical conduct and financial disclosure, providing training in ethics, monitoring the ethics of practices in departments and agencies, and giving guidance on matters of ethics. They were both rich, and I suppose they were as sensible, in most things, as other rich people. But in one thing they were extremely silly. There was an old, old quarrel between the two families, and instead of making it up like reasonable folks, they made a sort of pet of their quarrel, and would not let it die out. So that a Montagu wouldn t speak to a Capulet if he met one in the street nor a Capulet to a Montagu or if they did speak, it was to say rude and unpleasant things, which often ended in a fight. And their relations and servants were just as foolish, so that street fights and duels and uncomfortablenesses of that kind were always growing out of the Montagu and Capulet quarrel. Now Lord Capulet, the head of that family, gave a party a grand supper and a dance and he was so hospitable that he said anyone might come to it except (of course) the Montagues. But there was a young Montagu named Romeo, who very much wanted to be there, because Rosaline, the lady he loved, had been asked. This lady had never been at all kind to him, and he had no reason to love her; but the fact was that he wanted to love somebody, and as he hadn t seen the right lady, he was obliged to love the wrong one. • 31. The Louisiana Territory And How It Changed America Forever The American landscape has always been that of great majestic glory. But this was not always so. The westward expansion was not always in the cards for the Americans. The French had mostly settled from the Mississippi River in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west and from the Gulf of Mexico in the south to the Canadian border in the north. With the Louisiana Purchasethe U.S acquired most of that land. How did this land help define the United Statesof America as a Nation? This essay will discuss the actions leading up to the Acquirement of the Louisiana territory and how it changed America forever. In 1762 France ceded French Louisiana west of the Mississippi River to Spain. The French also transferred almost all of its remaining North American holdings to Britain in 1763. Spain was no longer a dominant country and they did little to develop Louisiana during the next three decades in which they held it. Spain in 1796 allied itself with France causing Britain in a bold move to use its navy to cut off the Spanish from reaching America. The Spanish in 1801 signed in secret, a treaty with France to return Louisiana Territory to France. This set off a series of concerns for the Americans. Americans had been moving westward into the Ohio River and Tennessee River valley areas since the 1780 s and the Port of New Orleans was a strategic port of entry as well as the Mississippi River which was needed if the U.S was going to be able to ship good through the Gulf of Mexico. ... The Great Depression affected people all over the United States of America and the people of the town of Bedford, Virginia perhaps worse than many others. Bedford, in the time before the Great Depression, had an economy that was primarily based upon agriculture. One family from Bedford, the Stevens boys, was an example of the people who were financially destabilized by the Depression (Kershaw 2003, 10). The banks often foreclosed on lands which had been in the hands of local families for generations, making scores of people homeless and without employment. Everyone was called upon to do whatever was possible to make ends meet. One man, Dickie Overstreet, had somehow gotten by in the worst years of the Depression through supplying vegetables and meat to Dickie s aunt, who owned the Dutch Inn, a boardinghouse in Bedford (Kershaw 2003, 60). Some people sold their property and took whatever jobs were available. People s pride and vanity soon vanished when it became apparent that the alternative was starvation and destitution. They oppressed Israel and put them to forced labor, for fear of their number size. Her downfall of learning everything about how the soldiers live and the land was how empty she became. She was there, but not completely at all. I proceeded to explain how Civil Society Brewing was having their first bottle release which in this case was in the form a 32oz crowler. 375 crowlers (3 per person) would, in fact, be released to fans who had come from as far away as Miami. What is Pulp you ask? Well, it is an American pale wheat ale that comes in at 6.3% abv. • 46. The Impact Of Native Schools On M Ж’Г„ Ori Society Essay Discuss the impact of the introduction of native schools on MДЃori society. The establishment of Native Schools around New Zealand in 1867 had many pulverizing effects which exceeded the few benefits associated with having Native Schools. Native Schools were fundamentally village day schools set up in rustic areas providing MДЃori children with European education under the Native Schools Act 1867. Native Schools were managed to be a medium for the State to gain social control over the MДЃori population and to assimilate MДЃori into civilised law abiding citizens . This essay will investigate how the State promoted/pushed cultural homogeneity through the education system at Native Schools as an approach to attain their ideal outlook of Europeanising and gaining full control over the MДЃori population and their resources. MДЃori and PДЃkehДЃ had very different aspirations for the establishment of Native Schools from the very start (Bishop 1996:76). While MДЃori wanted to further enhance their knowledge to battle the threat forced by the vicinity of PДЃkehДЃ the main focus of the State was merely to control MДЃori society through assimilation (Simon 1998:106). The fact that MДЃori had to provide land for which the school was to be built on, and to additionally pay for half the portion of the development expenses of the school and one quarter of the teacher s wages demonstrates that the setting up of native schools resulted in a financial burden to the MДЃori society (Duncan 2014). ... It s widely complex, with millions of different aspects and parts that make humanity amazingly different than other species in the world. However, the social construction of feminine beauty brings about issues of what is truly beautiful. Most countries have a different viewpoint, such as being bare chested or having a stretched neck. In America, female beauty is something that many argue over, but there is a clear consensus on some things: women should be skinny, but not too thin; blonde, but not bleach blonde; fit, but not masculine; tan, but not orange; and of course, the classic big boobs, big ass, but an absolutely tiny waist. A majority of these are completely unnatural and require a great deal of work, or even surgery, to even come close to acquiring. In The Body Beautiful by Rosalind Coward, the reality of expectations on beauty is clearly and concisely laid out, making clear that our construction of beauty is very flawed. An interesting point Coward brings up is the valuation of immaturity . This is a concept that focuses on making the female body more sexually attractive by making it seem prepubescent. Whitney was born in Westboro , Massachusetts., on Dec. 8, 1765, and died on Jan. 8, 1825. He graduated from Yale College in 1792. By April 1793, Whitney had designed and constructed the cotton gin, a machine that automated the separation of cottonseed from the short staple cotton fiber. Eli Whitney s machine could produce up to 23 kg (50 lb) of cleaned cotton daily, making southern cotton a profitable crop for the first time, but Whitney failed to profit from his invention, imitations of his machine appeared, and his 1794 invention was not upheld until 1807. Eli Whitney and his business ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ironically, it was as a manufacturer of muskets that Whitney finally became rich. Background on the Cotton Gin The cotton gin is a device for removing the seeds from cotton fiber. Simple devices for that purpose have been around for centuries, an East Indian machine called a charka was used to separate the seeds from the lint when the fiber was pulled through a set of rollers. The charka was designed to work with long staple cotton, but American cotton is short staple cotton. The cottonseed in Colonial America was removed by hand, usually the work of slaves. Eli Whitney s machine was the first to clean short staple cotton. His cotton engine consisted of spiked teeth mounted on a boxed revolving cylinder which, when turned by a crank, pulled the cotton fiber through small slotted openings so as to separate the seeds from the lint a rotating brush, operated via a belt and pulleys, removed the fibrous lint from the projecting spikes. The gins later became horse drawn and water powered gins and cotton production increased, along with lowered costs. Cotton soon became the number one selling textile. After the invention of the cotton gin, the yield of raw cotton doubled each decade after 1800. Demand was fueled by other inventions of the Industrial Revolution, such as the machines to spin and weave it and the steamboat to transport it. By mid century America was growing three quarters of the world s supply of cotton, most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
