Harmful Effects Of Bisphenol A
For my science fair project, I choose to test the effects of Bisphenol A (BPA) on plants after learning
that BPA has been removed from many plastics due to the harmful hazards of this chemical. Does BPA
effect plants? Specifically, I will be testing to see if different amounts of BPA given to plants will have
an impact on plant grown and plant life span. Bisphenol A or BPA is produced worldwide in large
amounts and is found in many of our everyday items. In 2002, approximately 2.8 million pounds of
BPA were produced and that amount has increased to over 6 billion pounds in 2008. (What Is BPA?)
Some research has been done to see if BPA is harmful, but most of the research has been done with
animals. Researchers have found a link between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When BPA was created it was life changing. Yes, we already had plastics, but when BPA was created
our plastic became stronger and much improved. With BPA, we could do much more with plastics
than in the past like being able to transport water in spill proof bottles and ways to transport food
while keeping it sealed shut. BPA allowed food to be heated in the microwave without the plastic
melting. People felt safer when polycarbonate plastics were created because it made all plastic safety
gear much stronger and more protective. Having this new and improved plastic was astonishing and

A Response To Politics And The English Language
A Response to Politics and the English Language In his essay Politics and the English language , he
states multiple examples of how politicians use the English Language against civilians. When he
wrote this essay, the people surrounding him were overcoming World War II. Due to the timing this
issue wasn t as important to them as it was for Orwell. He wanted people to understand the real threat
Politicians were having on their population. He emphasizes that politicians have learned the best way
to manipulate the general population. They used language that was extremely complicated and
unnecessary in order to control the way we think, talk, and act. Since no one had any idea what these
politicians were talking about; the only reasonable thing to do was to just listen and believe what they
told us. This is why George Orwell felt it necessary to spread his message, even if the main focus was
on overcoming World War II. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first example given is dying metaphors. Orwell believes that most writers use this method to save
time during their writing. Others examples in the text are operators and pretentious diction. Both of
these causes an increased amount of vagueness. The last example he gives is Meaningless words.
Meaningless word are words that have no overall meaning. Due to so many politicians and other
writers using these forms of writing a lot in their essays, or papers, George Orwell blames these
people for the deterioration of the English language. I disagree that the rules Orwell provides in the
essay will fix the entirety of the English

Aerial Ethnographic Research
The cultural myths within this concrete jungle are prominent in this picture; and like most cultural
myths, the reality is far more complicated than these ideology have made it seem. While the immense
complexity of this society cannot be captured in a single image, this photo of Central Park and the
outlying city shows us the cultural features that are not visible or not obvious from ground level. The
rigid geometric shapes and lines of the buildings blur together to form a vast expanse of buildings that
extends toward the outer edges of the photograph and the enormity of it all hints at the rich culture that
resides within. It is simple to see how the city became known for being a melting pot demographic
with its tightly packed structures. The tremendous culture as well as the cityscape seem to burst out of
the picture and the sizable towers on the right seem to reach improbable heights. Similar to aerial

In particular, this image of New York places the vast amount activity that takes place into one

over the past four centuries, since the land was sold. Over the centuries, New York has grown

Alzheimer s Marketing Strategy
There would be 3 targeted channels of our social media presence. Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.
Facebook, we will have a call to action button SHARE NOW and a mention to follow us on twitter
#myfivecents. YouTube would have people and celebrities sharing their stories. Social media is
growing and is a cost effective way to get the word out. Facebook twitter and YouTube seem to be
where Alz.org, purple elephant and united do most of their social media marketing. This also fits into
our demographic 30 to 65. The end of the year event could take place at a zoo, which would be
nationwide. The reason we chose a zoo potentially is the purple elephant is a nonprofit organization
that wants to change the way young people think about Alzheimer s disease. Most young people feel it
is a disease that only older people get, but diagnosis are given to people in their 30 s sometimes. This
alliance will bring more awareness. The event could be televised or presented on YouTube to bring the

A Child Is Mysterious and Powerful
Within the child lies the fate of the future. Whoever wishes to confer some benefit on society must
preserve him from deviation and observe his natural ways acting. A child is mysterious and powerful
and contains within himself the secret of human nature.
Explain the above quote with reference to the Montessori philosophy.
The term Montessori Philosophy originated from the name of Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the most
influential pioneers in early childhood education. She advised an education which combines a
philosophy with a practical approach based on the central idea of freedom for the child within a
carefully planned and structured environment. To analyze the above quote, we will have to know what

Thus it is said that The child is endowed with unknown powers which can guide us to a radiant future.
(The Absorbent Mind ,P2)
During the observation of children at Casa Dei Bambini, Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that
children prefer work to play. They were able to achieve a self integration through this work. She found
that the aggressive and destructive children became calm and peaceful after working with the
materials. She concluded that through work the child seemed to get fulfillment of some internal need
which made him normalized.
Montessori found out that independence is necessary to the child s normal development. The child
uses his independence to listen to his inner guide for actions that can be useful to him and one who is
served is actually limited in his independence. It is well said that we habitually serve children; and this
is not only an act of servility towards them but it is dangerous, since it tends to suffocate their useful,
spontaneous activity. (Course manual P.40).
We can help the child attain independence by giving opportunity for him to work with the materials by
himself, by directing him towards a given end to develop his will, by giving him constructive work to
help him in developing discipline, by letting him know and have an understanding of what is good and
bad and also giving him freedom to reveal himself completely by playing only passive role.
Maria Montessori stated that at certain stages

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NATURAL LAW AND LEGAL POSITIVISM This essay is going
to discuss and analyse the differences between two basic principles natural law and legal positivism.
According to Hume, there are two realms of human enquiry , one in the field of facts which is
concerned with what is actually the case and the other in the field of ought that is, what ought to be the
case1. Those who believe in the principle of natural law are known as naturalists while those who
believe in the principle of legal positivism or positive law are known as positivists. This is a brief
overview of the two principles of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the major difference between positivist and natural law thinkers. Natural law is the
combination of laws and morals while legal positivism is the seperation of laws and morals. Legal
positivism declares that morality is irrelevant to the identification of what is valid law and that the
criteria for the validity of a legal rule or law in a society is that it has the warrant of the sovereign and
will be enforced by the sovereign and its agents. Raz, a positivist, stated that the validity of a law can
never depend on its morality 6 Positive law or positivism is

this feature, it would hardly be entitled to rank as law at all. A natural law on the other hand may stll

Trench Warfare In The Trenches
During World War I most of the fighting was done on land where it was solider versus solider and the
one who could withstand the pressure of the trenches the longest would win. Trench warfare was
completely accidental and the fighting was supposed to go as quick as possible where your troops
would be in and out then they could all go home; what ended up happening was one of the world s
longest stalemates where both sides dug in their boots and held their ground for as long as they could.
However many things changed trench warfare such as: no man s land, tanks, machine guns, gas,
grenades, and shelling. There were horrors far worse than the ones seen in the trenches though,
because between the trenches the lined there land and the enemies was a place known as no man s
land. No man s land was the stretch of land between one sides trenches and the others. This land is
described as the worst place to be if you were in the war. No man s land was full of dead bodies from
both sides as neither side was able to reach the bodies of their men; so there bodies just laid there
rotting and decomposing because no one was able to get their ... Show more content on

Machine guns were the first of their kind and were highly revolutionary; they were first used by the
Germans where they would line the trenches. Machine guns were operated by two people a gunner
and someone who would feed the bullets into the machine gun so it didn t stop firing. It was used to
repel soldiers that were pushing at their trenches and it could mow down a whole wave of infantry that
was pushing at you in seconds it was brutally efficient and soon every side in the war needed to have
one because it was the beat at mowing down troops. Machine guns made the stalemate last much
longer as eventually all sides had them and pushing would likely result in death for your side so
pushing the enemy line became far less

Monocular Deprivation
In the early postnatal life, there are restricted time windows within which the essential role of
experience is mainly evident. These time windows are called critical periods.54In critical periods
brain circuits display a high sensitivity to acquire informative and adaptive signals from the exterior
environment. Visual deprivation or ocular abnormalities in early life causes disruption of proper
environmental signals that can result in long tremor even permanent brain diseases,55one of them is
Amblyopia.56
The deficits can be avoided if deprivation begins postnatal, but there are different sensitive periods for
different visual capabilities: 3 months for scotopic sensitivity, 6 months for photopic sensitivity, 18 24
months for spatial contrast sensitivity, and after 2 years for binocular vision. These findings found that
there is not just one visual sensitive period but rather that there are different sensitive periods during
which different characteristics of vision can bedamaged.43The critical period for monocular
deprivation is larger than for visual motion direction deprivation.57 ... Show more content on

Evaluating American Values
Hartz and Tocqueville concur that Americans embrace and agree on essential points or fundamental
values like liberty, democracy, and equality. These are easy words to agree to but the application of
these values can be vastly different depending on who is asked. How American values are defined and
applied has split Americans along racial, gender, and class lines since the formation of the United
States. The declaration of independence brought with it differences in the application of American
values. The founding fathers had different ideas of equality and liberty for different groups of people.
Thomas Jefferson wrote in the declaration, all men are created equal (The Declaration of
Independence) . At the time, women could not own land, African Americans were considered ... Show

Everyone supports the concept of free speech, but disagrees on how it should be exercised. Some
people feel that speech should be limited when they find it hateful or disrespectful. Others believe free
speech should be applied equally to everyone. The debate of kneeling during the national anthem has
stimulated a large debate and split public opinion. Some argue that kneeling is distasteful and
dishonors the flag. Others feel that kneeling is a peaceful protest that the first amendment protects.
Some believe that the factor of race has exaggerated the issue because the first person to protest by
kneeling during the anthem is black. Free speech divides the public opinion and some feel it should be
restricted depending on what the protest consists of.
All americans believe in certain core values. Everyone can agree that they support democracy, liberty,
and equality. A split in public opinion occurs because people have different opinions on these basic
american values and how they should be enforced or regulated. In other words, Americans support
universal concepts and values, but do not agree on how they should be

better tasting product, they often load it up with sugar. This does not work well, as our body cannot
process the sugar fast enough. So this amount of sugar tells the pancreas to make insulin, which is the
fat producing hormone. High insulin levels also have the problem of blocking the Full! signals that
travel to a person s brain. From there, the converted sugar energy gets stored in the liver, and the
excess gets stored in fat cells, creating, well, the bad fat no one wants on their body. This is often
common with low fat foods, and certain carbohydrates, as they turn into sugar, and eventually, fat.

William Clover, talking about his experience in Lyon, the second largest city in France in his book The

in that city. This might confuse some people, as they think about the thin, and small waistlines of our
Parisian counterparts. How can people not work out, but still say so thin? The answer is simple, they
get their exercise elsewhere. They are very active people, while Americans are often lazy, or only
exercise without taking diet into consideration. Actually, before 1953, it was common knowledge that
exercise could cause heart attacks and diminish sex drive. That was until a study in 1953 showed that
a fat and a skinny mouse ate the exact same, but had a difference due to the fat mouse s unhealthy
habit of not exercising on his wheel. Fast forward to 1980, and in the next two decades, fitness club
memberships doubled. The only problem is, obesity rates doubled as well. Billions went to trying to
lose weight, and a fitness revolution sparked across the nation. It was easily seen that gyms were
expanding, but waistlines expanded as well, and a decade later, two thirds of Americans were
overweight or obese.

Pros And Cons Of Command Economic System
Economic Systems
In today s world, we are faced with the everyday question of what the best way to run an economy is.
There have been many different attempts to create the perfect economic system that adjusts to the
needs of each citizen, while maintaining a strong market system in which the people create ideas and
product and keep control. However, there has yet to be the perfect system that comes with less risk
than potential, and it is most likely that there will never be a system where cons are not attached to the
pros. Command, Market, and occasionally Traditional are the three main types of economies we see
today, and each one offers a different set of positives that the others can t. An idea that has always
been represented in the world has been a command economy. This is an economic system in which a
central power holds control of the economy, and regulates it. Countries like Cuba, China, and North
Korea practice this economy in forms of communism. Socialism can fall under this category as well,
however as it requires a government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The governments of these economies limit regulations and provide a large amount of economic
freedom. Countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and the United States each have their own
version of a market economy. Because of the economic freedom, these countries are very strongly
business centered and run off of the motivation of their citizens working their way to the top, or being
able to have a family. Economic efficiency and growth are also major factors, and the state of the
economy relies heavily on these things in order to be the best it can be. The tradeoff, however, is that
the governments cannot guarantee that citizens needs will be met. With freedom, there will be a large
lack of equity as many citizens won t achieve. Countries like the United States attempt to have
security nets in place to help, but these can only stretch so

watching fictional violence causes people to become violent, the rise of violence on TV compared to
real world crime statistics over the past 20 years tells a different story.

The Biggest Stressor In A Family’S Experience Is A Death.
The biggest stressor in a family s experience is a death. Stress levels can be different if deaths are
sudden or even if the death was known to be coming. Also, at different ages the stressors of a death in
the family can differ greatly. The experiences of a death of a child, death of a sibling, death of a

Death of a Child The death of a child in a family can have different meanings depending on the

the stressor of death in their family. The C factor in this model is where the contrast is between these

Analysis of the Absorption of Green Light Versus Red...
Analysis of the Absorption of Green Light Versus Red Light Absorption in Spinach Leaves
The goal of the experiment was to determine if green light had less ability to absorb than red light in
spinach leaves. This was done by separating the photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll
b, carotene and xanthophylls) from one another using paper chromatography. The separated pigments
were then analyzed for their absorption spectrum using a spectrographometer. When the data was
graphed it clearly showed the higher rate of red light absorption over green light. These results along
with previous research indicate the importance of red light in photosynthesis and the minor role green
light plays.

These wavelengths correspond to the wavelengths of visible light. Overall blue and red light works
best, while green in least effective in the photosynthesis process (Nishio, 2000). The wavelengths that
a pigment absorbs, absorption spectra, are determined using a spectrophotometer. In order to obtain
the photosynthetic pigment s absorption spectra the pigments are separated using paper
chromatography. Paper chromatography is an analytical technique that separates a mixture based on
the individual pigment s size, polarity and solubility (Lewis, 2004). The separation of the mixtures
involves a stationary phase (the chromatography paper), which a mobile phase (solvent) moves up
through. When the mixtures is applied to the paper and allowed to flow with the mobile phase, the
different pigments move at different rates (Campbell, 1996). This means the pigments that absorb the
strongest to the stationary phase (the chromatography paper) will move the slowest, while the weakest
will move the fastest. The rate of the pigments movement will separate each pigment individually
from the mixture (Maitland, 2002). This natural separation shows that each pigment is chemically
different and plays different roles in photosynthesis (Maitland, 2002). To analyze the separated
pigments a spectrophotometer is used to obtain an absorbance spectrum. This spectrum is a graph that
shows a pigment s light absorption versus wavelengths

Black Identity And Missing Identity
Boo! Ghosts are the most popular halloween costumes with children. Perhaps the popularity comes
from the idea that children like hiding their true identity, a fascination that will continue into
adulthood. In Native Guard, Natasha Trethewey is a half white and half black woman who has trouble
incorporating her black heritage into her life therefore missing a piece of her identity. In Heart of
Darkness by Joseph Conrad, characters described as a phantom or shade indicate missing or different
identities. In The Circle by Dave Eggers, the employees live through what the circle tells and have no
original ideas which stems from their missing identity. them Ghosts are the soul of a once living

Because of these missing pieces, ghosts represent missing identity.
In Native Guard by Natasha Trethewey, the poet has a difficult time letting both her white father and

culture is the missing part of her true identity. The Civil War divided the United States which most

The Volcanic Eruption Of Volcanoes
Geologic Processes
Volcanoes are one of the most beautiful and yet destructive forces naturally occurring on our planet.
As the Earth s population continues to grow, more people move closer and closer to volcanoes.
Currently, an estimated 500 million people from Japan to Indonesia, and from Italy to Oregon, live
near active volcanoes. Each year, approximately 70 volcanoes will erupt, and usually at least once
every ten years, there will be a large volcanic eruption that puts the people living both near and far in
danger (Lutgens Tarbuck, 2005).
As populations continue to increase and more people are attracted to the beauty surrounding these
areas, the number of people choosing to beauty of an area over the known dangers of living ... Show

While we typically think of the pressure being released in a dramatic eruption from a volcanic
mountain that has been formed, the pressure can also be released as magma quietly escapes through
fissures, or cracks within the ground near the volcano. This process is referred to as fissure eruption.
Once the magma is released from the volcano, it is called lava. Fissure eruptions can occur over a
wide area, but over a few hours or days, they typically become a central vent from which the pressure
will continue to be released. Occasionally, lava will flow back into the ground by pouring into a crack
or an open eruptive fissure, a process called drainback. Lava can also flow back into the same fissure
from which it erupted (Krock, 2002). Regardless of where the lava flows, the change in the terrain is
called a lava plateau. These lava plateaus can be relatively small or very large. For example, the
Columbia plateau covers an area more than 150,000 square kilometers and extends over the states of
Washington, Idaho and Oregon (Landscape America, n.d.).
Two materials make up a volcanic eruption: lava and ash. However, each volcano can have different
proportions of lava to ash. Volcanoes in Hawaii and the Galapagos are mostly lava (greater than 95%)
with just a small (less than 5%) ash, typically in the form of cinder (Oregon State University, n.d.).
Other volcanoes may have more cinder ash than lava.

Sexual Abuse And Domestic Violence
People who experience sexual abuse or domestic violence always blame themselves due to guilt and
low self esteem, also because the abuser is very dominant and can make the victim believe that it s

 Humiliation, awkwardness;
 Thinking that what their partner is doing is not a crime and shouldn t be report as they d refuse to
testify against them.
 They don t want other people knowing.
 Blaming themselves or believe that other people would blame them for it.
 Going through the situation quietly and not sharing it with anyone else
 Making excuses or protecting the abuser. (Lievore 2003) And a few barriers at the level of the
justice system include:
 Thinking that the police wouldn t be able to help
 Dread of being treated badly by others or looked down upon
 Scared of legal procedures
 Not having enough evidence to prove the incident
 Not being aware of the reporting system (Lievore 2003)

Analysis Of Culpepper And Koester s Writing I ve Learned...
Reflection Paper
In Culpepper and Koester s writing I ve learned a great deal about the Gospel of John from all
perspectives. I ve learned everything from what makes John unique, the Gospel of John as literature,
and some theological insight on the Gospel of John. In this particular paper though I want to focus on
three key questions asked and deliver well thought out ideas and answers. Also in this paper the reader
will learn what the similarities and differences John has from the Synoptic Gospels, what difference
would it make to Christian belief today if the Gospel of John was never written, and what my favorite
gospel is and why?
First the question is asked, How is John similar to and different from the synoptic gospels? Is there
evidence that John is aware of the existence of the synoptic gospels ? First we have to understand that
although John s Gospel has much in common with the other New Testament gospels, it is largely
independent from the others as well (Koester 4). Some similarities that John and the synoptic Gospels
have is they all link Jesus to the town of Nazareth. They all say that Jesus had a group of disciples, he
taught others, he healed those in need of healing, and they all recorded the scene of feeding the five
thousand. Now John is different from the other gospels in a few different ways. The first way John is
different from the others is the journeys talked about throughout the gospels, for instance only

Entitlement Challenges
Society and how it has shaped me into the person I am today? I can recall growing up as a kid, we
didn t have the fancy things like kids do today. We were able to get by with what we had. My mother
worked hard to give us the very best possible. Numerous parents today don t let their children try, fail,
be resilient, problem solve, or even have achievements of their own. All parents want the best
intentions for their children, but if we keep hovering over them, overprotecting and enable them they
will not have the true sense of self, know who they are, or realized what is truly important in life. They
will not be able to have healthy relationships or stand on their own in the world.
I realized when my kids were growing up that I was somewhat the problem in this whole entitlement
challenge, and let me say, it definitely was a wakeup call. There are solutions, and they begin at home.
I had to make a change within their environment and be able to repair the entitlement attitude in my
kids, before it was too late. I decided to make them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means build that community in your home, teach your children about respect and discipline,
ways that they can be better people. Parents should be able to control what goes on in their own home.
I feel that parents allow so much to happen in their home because it is easier on them. When they get
home from a long day of working, they are tired, we all are. Electronic gadgets flooding America has
been replaced by a virtual world that does not exist. There is less communication than ever before.
What happened to the sit down dinners and face to face conversations? No matter where you go, either
society is on their IPAD s, IPHONE s or laptops. We have lost all sense of direct communication. Why
is that? We have allowed it to happen and parents are to blame for spoiling kids and giving them

An Enemy Of The People Character Analysis
The Plot of An Enemy of the People
Majority of the good stories begin with a crucial list of the ingredients such as the initial situation, the
conflict, the complication, the climax, the suspense, the denouement as well as the conclusion. An
Enemy of the People by Ibsen Henrik is a play that encompasses all these ingredients. The drama
takes the form of a unified plot since it has a chronological order of events from the beginning to the
end. In this paper, I will analyze the plot of this drama play by specifically examining the plot type,
plot action and how in overall the plot is structured.
At the start of the drama, everything appears hunky dory as every individual has a higher expectation
of the Baths to generate a lot of money for the town. Dr. Stockman, the protagonist, is surrounded by
families and friends who all appear to love him. Definitely, there is some sibling rivalry that is taking
place with the mayor, Peter Stockman who is his brother. However, the thing looks fine ultimately,
then Dr. Stockman announces a discovery that he has determined from his investigation that
Municipal`s Baths are actually contaminated with a bacteria. He emphasizes that if there is nothing
that is done to restore the situation, the water that is meant to heal the people will instead make them
sick (Ibsen 17). Upon this discovery, all the supposed friends of Dr. Stockman congratulate him and
praise him calling him a hero. All this is happening during the initial situation before the conflict is
reached.
During the conflict, Peter Stockman who is the mayor of the town brings bad news to Dr. Stockman
but Dr. Stockman swears to safeguard this news. Amidst this crisis, both Hovstad and Aslaksen show
up and promise to offer their support to Dr. Stockman. Dr. Stockman at first does not perceive the big
deal concerning the discovery. He is convinced from his laboratory findings that the water is actually
poisoned and that everybody wants this situation fixed. The bubble of Dr. Stockman is passed quickly
upon the arrival of Peter Stockman, his brother. The mayor informs Dr. Stockman that the town will
be ruined if the pollution of the Baths is fixed. Thusly, he Peter Stockman resorts to threatening his
brother. This makes

Ms. Geis feels that the communication skills that one must possess in order to make advancements in
management are that one must be an effective communicator, know the work environment, and the
people you work with.
Edmondson (2009) discusses four different basic communication styles. The first style is expressive
which have a tendency to speak quickly, focus on the big picture, and have a high energy level. They
can be perceived as unpredictable, vain, or excessively jovial. Next are systematic who tend to focus
on small details, not on the larger picture, and try to avoid conflicts. The third type listed is
sympathetic. These individuals focus on people and relationships. They are good listeners and so
concern for everyone s needs. Sympathetics also do not like be at odds with others. Lastly, the fourth
communication style identified is directs who generally keep dialogue short and are perceived as a
multitaskers. The study recommends that the individual discover her own communication style and
adjust the style according to the situation.

Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Sula
Two young girls, coalescing on a grass laden field while lying on their stomachs, dig a hole in
unspoken harmony. A picture of youth and innocence, this scene depicts an innocuous moment which
the two girls share as a result of their juvenescence or does it? In Toni Morrison s Sula, this scene,
among others, appears at first to be both irrelevant to the novel s underlying theme and out of place
with regard to the rest of the plot. Yet, when analyzed further, the literary devices that Morrison uses
in these scenes bring readers to a vastly different conclusion. These scenes serve as windows into the
mind of Morrison and even into the larger themes present in the text. So, perhaps two girls sharing a
seemingly casual experience is not as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the vasculature of plants shrouded by bark, innocence is shrouded and further internalized as
social influence compiles. Thus, Morrison effectively illustrates both the presence of innocence and its
inherent definition via careful diction in this scene. Additionally, the scene is illuminating because of
the timing in which Morrison introduces the idea of renewed innocence. She chooses to place it
directly before one of the most gruesome and chilling events of the novel: the death of Chicken Little.
Now, readers could wonder if she is simply juxtaposing two starkly contrasted scenarios for literary
effect. But even though the timing could be interpreted solely to as a method of juxtaposition, an
ulterior motive becomes apparent when readers inquire why the girls allow Chicken Little to die after
illuminating their innocent cores, not before. If the girls had killed Chicken Little before stripping
away the bark from the twig, the scene could be perceived as a symbol of internal cleansing and a
means of psychologically stripping themselves of guilt. But the scene precedes his drowning, possibly
indicating that their ambivalence was catalyzed by their exposed, innocent essence. Morrison portrays
such a vastly contradictory portrayal of popularized innocence in an attempt to demonstrate how
innocence may not be defined as innocuously as society defines it. However, before stating the

Analysis Of The Movie The Babadook
The Babadook is a haunting film filled with twists and turns that leave the audience terrified without
ever utilizing a single cliché jump scare. The audience is constantly in a state of dread and fear along
with the protagonist. One of the final scenes in the movie shows the protagonist walking into her
basement to feed the monster that she keeps down there. The scene is a unique ending that is not
commonly seen in horror films. It revolves around implicit meaning and the interesting point of view
editing. Without the implicit meaning of the film and the point of view editing in this scene, the
emotional impact of the film would have been much weaker.
The scene begins with the protagonist, Amelia, standing at the entrance to the basement with Sam. She
instructs her son to go outside and play, while she enters the basement. The audience sees Amelia
slowly walk down the stairs with a bowl full of worms in her hands. It leaves the viewer a bit confused
the first time they watch the film due to the unusual nature of the act. She sets the bowl down on the
ground and the camera takes on the viewpoint of the Babadook as he comes roaring out of his hiding
spot. The protagonist soothes the monster before returning upstairs to her son and her normal life. The
scene provides an excellent representation of implicit meaning and point of view editing.
The implicit meaning of the film is seen throughout the movie, but during the viewer s first watch

Pete Rose Should Be Allowed Into the Hall of Fame
Who Makes the Final Decision? There are many questions that go through a Major League Baseball

Rose should be allowed into the Hall of Fame? Most players that have been inducted in the Major
League Baseball Hall of Fame such as, Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver, and everyone else were inducted for
their pitching or baseball playing ability. Therefore, the main idea of being accepted into the Hall of
Fame would be how well each player performed on the field during their career. When the baseball
commissioner in 1989 Bart Giamatti barred Pete Rose from baseball after an investigation found that

According to the current version of Baseball s rules, Rose can be eligible for the Hall of Fame by
getting of the banishment list. No one in the history of Major League Baseball has been able to get off
the list. Pete Rose can petition Baseball s powers to get off the list. Once he is off the list, he can be
considered for the Hall of Fame. No one is sure if it is Pete Rose s goal in life to be in the Hall of
Fame. It might be hard but it is possible that Rose can be taken off the ineligible list. If he really wants
to be in the Hall fame, then he has the chance. In the Hall of Fame it clearly states with a blazing
fastball that approached 100 miles per hour Nolan Ryan dominated hitters for an unparalleled 27
seasons on his way to 5,714 strikeouts, an all time record. If one was to read this, then they would
realize and understand that the reason Nolan Ryan is in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame is for
his skill and contributions to the game of baseball. Therefore, what is keeping Pete Rose from joining
the elite? He broke more records and won more World Series than half of the elite members. Although
Pete Rose was officially barred from the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.,
because of a gambling scandal, he already has a major presence in the Cincinnati Reds Museum.

The Supernatural In Elizabeth Bowen s The Demon Lover
With a close examination of Elizabeth Bowen s suspenseful short story, The Demon Lover, I notice a
much more frightening element present in the narrative than what appears to be the supernatural as
this British author highlights her central notion that those who endure abusive relationships, sustain
psychologically scars that may never go away. Although some readers may believe that Mrs. Drover s
former fiancé, K., who had gone to battle in the Great War never to return, may be fulfilling his
promise to be with [her] . . . sooner or later (Bowen 145), I contend that the Mrs. Drover s paranormal

After reading the letter which foresees the arrival of her phantom lover at the hour arranged , Mrs.
Drover with heighten apprehension goes to her locked chest and unlatches it, throws up the lid , and
searches perhaps metaphorically for the answer or the cause of her deteriorating mental state (Bowen
144). Using a flashback, Bowen unlocks the secrets of the protagonist s tortured psyche, as she recalls
herself as a young girl talking with a soldier about to leave for war in the garden that once existed
outside of the house. Imagery pervades her memories, as the uniformed man presses her hand, without
kindness and painfully to one of his button on his jacket, as he promises to be with her sooner or later

Jonathan Edwards the Great Preacher Essay
He was a man whose very words struck fear into the hearts of his listeners. Acknowledged as one of
the most powerful religious speakers of the era, he spearheaded the Great Awakening. This was a time
when the intense fervor of the first Puritans had subsided somewhat (Heyrmen 1) due to a resurgence
of religious zeal (Stein 1) in colonists through faith rather than predestination. Jonathan Edwards
however sought to arouse the religious intensity of the colonists (Edwards 1) through his preaching.
But how and why was Edwards so successful? What influenced him? How did he use diction and
symbolism to persuade his listener, and what was the reaction to his teachings? In order to understand
these questions one must look at his life and works ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edwards was influenced by Locke s Essay Concerning Human Understanding (1717) which said that
for an individual to truly experience the word of god he must possess empirical knowledge, that is
experience it firsthand, which contrasted with Calvinism s idea of predestination (1). Locke s essay
had a great impact on Edwards because it made him realize that when he gives sermons, his listeners
should experience firsthand the message of God by making his audience more in tune with their
spiritual selves. At Yale he was also interested in the workings of the human mind (1). His foray into
the human mind would help him in life to manipulate others to listen to his message. Overall his
childhood and early years would help Edwards persuade others to listen to his message. He does this
well with his brilliant use of persuasive language to manipulate the emotions and thoughts of others.
Edward s is able to persuade his listeners to follow his doctrine by manipulating their emotions and
thoughts while they listen to his sermon. In his speeches Edwards evoked vivid, terrifying images of
the utter corruption of human nature (Heyrmen 1) which terrified his listeners and made them
receptive to the message he was preaching. One particular development can be found in a letter from
1743 that Edwards himself wrote to Thomas Prince a Boston preacher. The letter describes Edwards s
attempts at preaching to groups of young listener s. Two young men were so overcome with his

A New Event Planner Entrepreneur, And New Computer...
Introduction In a previous project, I identified three top trends in my profession and delivered the
information in an annotated bibliography. As a new event planner entrepreneur, I conducted research
on what s trending in the event planning industry and my top trends were creativity, event driven
marketing (EDM), and new computer technology. An extension of the project required an archive
based qualitative approach to one of the trends. I chose to conduct research on EDM based on the
following factors: 1) EDM presented a distinct approach to direct marketing and traditional database
marketing which typically use statistical data. 2) Several resources provided the most dynamic,
measurable information and varying utilization in multiple industries. 3) The results from
implementing EDM presented a positive effect on key performance indicators. EDM is a discipline
within marketing where companies aim to access identifiable changes in a customer s individual
needs. In this context and described by Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, an event is defined as a
detectable change in an individual s circumstances, that is relevant and significant, either in fact or in

with event based marketing (EBM) and Trigger based marketing. As a new event planner

Compare And Contrast Cyrano De Bergerac
A great nose may be an index of a great soul (Rostand 30). This quote by Cyrano is one of many
interesting quotes that the play Cyrano de Bergerac contains. The play is a dramatic comedy written in
1897 by Edmond Rostand about a cadet named Cyrano who has fallen in love with the beautiful
women Roxane. On the contrary, Roxanne, which is a movie based off of the play Cyrano de

and contrast in many ways. One example of this is between the two characters Cyrano and C.D. Both
Cyrano and C.D are known for their incredible ability at doing their jobs. Cyrano is known for being
one of the best cadets to ever live and C.D is an excellent Fire Chief. Although they are both widely

Rocks of Ages by Stephen Jay Gould
Rocks of Ages is Stephen Jay Gould s commentary on the conflict between secular scientists and
religious believers who reject scientific theory when in it is disagreement with religious teachings
about nature and origin of the natural world. Certain aspects of his argument hold true, but the
application is impossible and still gives one magisteria a dominance over the other. While it is an
accurate account of historical disagreements and critical views of well known people, his argument is
flawed by human nature. He repeatedly contradicts himself and maintains a bias in favor of scientific
theory. Gould begins the extended essay by explaining the purpose of the novel. The preamble is a
summary of the present war that exists only in people s minds and social practices. He believes that
science and religion cannot be unified or synthesized, but they should not experience conflict, because
science is to define the natural world, and religion the moral aspect. Gould argues that if each realm is
separate, then they should not encounter arguments. He calls this the principle of Non Overlapping
Magisterium or NOMA. The idea is that the fullness of humanity can only be achieved when science
and religion are each allowed to contribute in areas for which that particular mode of thinking is most
appropriate, and restricted from interfering in domains for which it is not. His largest supporting
illustration is given by comparison to the also non overlapping domain of art. Most

  • 2. Harmful Effects Of Bisphenol A For my science fair project, I choose to test the effects of Bisphenol A (BPA) on plants after learning that BPA has been removed from many plastics due to the harmful hazards of this chemical. Does BPA effect plants? Specifically, I will be testing to see if different amounts of BPA given to plants will have an impact on plant grown and plant life span. Bisphenol A or BPA is produced worldwide in large amounts and is found in many of our everyday items. In 2002, approximately 2.8 million pounds of BPA were produced and that amount has increased to over 6 billion pounds in 2008. (What Is BPA?) Some research has been done to see if BPA is harmful, but most of the research has been done with animals. Researchers have found a link between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When BPA was created it was life changing. Yes, we already had plastics, but when BPA was created our plastic became stronger and much improved. With BPA, we could do much more with plastics than in the past like being able to transport water in spill proof bottles and ways to transport food while keeping it sealed shut. BPA allowed food to be heated in the microwave without the plastic melting. People felt safer when polycarbonate plastics were created because it made all plastic safety gear much stronger and more protective. A Response To Politics And The English Language A Response to Politics and the English Language In his essay Politics and the English language , he states multiple examples of how politicians use the English Language against civilians. When he wrote this essay, the people surrounding him were overcoming World War II. Due to the timing this issue wasn t as important to them as it was for Orwell. He wanted people to understand the real threat Politicians were having on their population. He emphasizes that politicians have learned the best way to manipulate the general population. They used language that was extremely complicated and unnecessary in order to control the way we think, talk, and act. Since no one had any idea what these politicians were talking about; the only reasonable thing to do was to just listen and believe what they told us. This is why George Orwell felt it necessary to spread his message, even if the main focus was on overcoming World War II. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first example given is dying metaphors. Orwell believes that most writers use this method to save time during their writing. Others examples in the text are operators and pretentious diction. Both of these causes an increased amount of vagueness. The last example he gives is Meaningless words. Meaningless word are words that have no overall meaning. Due to so many politicians and other writers using these forms of writing a lot in their essays, or papers, George Orwell blames these people for the deterioration of the English language. I disagree that the rules Orwell provides in the essay will fix the entirety of the English ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Aerial Ethnographic Research The cultural myths within this concrete jungle are prominent in this picture; and like most cultural myths, the reality is far more complicated than these ideology have made it seem. While the immense complexity of this society cannot be captured in a single image, this photo of Central Park and the outlying city shows us the cultural features that are not visible or not obvious from ground level. The rigid geometric shapes and lines of the buildings blur together to form a vast expanse of buildings that extends toward the outer edges of the photograph and the enormity of it all hints at the rich culture that resides within. It is simple to see how the city became known for being a melting pot demographic with its tightly packed structures. Whoever wishes to confer some benefit on society must preserve him from deviation and observe his natural ways acting. A child is mysterious and powerful and contains within himself the secret of human nature. Explain the above quote with reference to the Montessori philosophy. The term Montessori Philosophy originated from the name of Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the most influential pioneers in early childhood education. Thus it is said that The child is endowed with unknown powers which can guide us to a radiant future. (The Absorbent Mind ,P2) During the observation of children at Casa Dei Bambini, Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that children prefer work to play. They were able to achieve a self integration through this work. She found that the aggressive and destructive children became calm and peaceful after working with the materials. She concluded that through work the child seemed to get fulfillment of some internal need which made him normalized. Montessori found out that independence is necessary to the child s normal development. The child uses his independence to listen to his inner guide for actions that can be useful to him and one who is served is actually limited in his independence. It is well said that we habitually serve children; and this is not only an act of servility towards them but it is dangerous, since it tends to suffocate their useful, spontaneous activity. (Course manual P.40). We can help the child attain independence by giving opportunity for him to work with the materials by himself, by directing him towards a given end to develop his will, by giving him constructive work to help him in developing discipline, by letting him know and have an understanding of what is good and bad and also giving him freedom to reveal himself completely by playing only passive role. Trench Warfare In The Trenches During World War I most of the fighting was done on land where it was solider versus solider and the one who could withstand the pressure of the trenches the longest would win. Trench warfare was completely accidental and the fighting was supposed to go as quick as possible where your troops would be in and out then they could all go home; what ended up happening was one of the world s longest stalemates where both sides dug in their boots and held their ground for as long as they could. However many things changed trench warfare such as: no man s land, tanks, machine guns, gas, grenades, and shelling. There were horrors far worse than the ones seen in the trenches though, because between the trenches the lined there land and the enemies was a place known as no man s land. No man s land was the stretch of land between one sides trenches and the others. This land is described as the worst place to be if you were in the war. Visual deprivation or ocular abnormalities in early life causes disruption of proper environmental signals that can result in long tremor even permanent brain diseases,55one of them is Amblyopia.56 The deficits can be avoided if deprivation begins postnatal, but there are different sensitive periods for different visual capabilities: 3 months for scotopic sensitivity, 6 months for photopic sensitivity, 18 24 months for spatial contrast sensitivity, and after 2 years for binocular vision. The declaration of independence brought with it differences in the application of American values. The founding fathers had different ideas of equality and liberty for different groups of people. So this amount of sugar tells the pancreas to make insulin, which is the fat producing hormone. High insulin levels also have the problem of blocking the Full! signals that travel to a person s brain. From there, the converted sugar energy gets stored in the liver, and the excess gets stored in fat cells, creating, well, the bad fat no one wants on their body. The answer is simple, they get their exercise elsewhere. They are very active people, while Americans are often lazy, or only exercise without taking diet into consideration. Actually, before 1953, it was common knowledge that exercise could cause heart attacks and diminish sex drive. That was until a study in 1953 showed that a fat and a skinny mouse ate the exact same, but had a difference due to the fat mouse s unhealthy habit of not exercising on his wheel. Fast forward to 1980, and in the next two decades, fitness club memberships doubled. The only problem is, obesity rates doubled as well. There have been many different attempts to create the perfect economic system that adjusts to the needs of each citizen, while maintaining a strong market system in which the people create ideas and product and keep control. Analysis of the Absorption of Green Light Versus Red Light Absorption in Spinach Leaves The goal of the experiment was to determine if green light had less ability to absorb than red light in spinach leaves. This was done by separating the photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, carotene and xanthophylls) from one another using paper chromatography. The separated pigments were then analyzed for their absorption spectrum using a spectrographometer. When the data was graphed it clearly showed the higher rate of red light absorption over green light. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These wavelengths correspond to the wavelengths of visible light. Overall blue and red light works best, while green in least effective in the photosynthesis process (Nishio, 2000). The wavelengths that a pigment absorbs, absorption spectra, are determined using a spectrophotometer. In order to obtain the photosynthetic pigment s absorption spectra the pigments are separated using paper chromatography. Paper chromatography is an analytical technique that separates a mixture based on the individual pigment s size, polarity and solubility (Lewis, 2004). The separation of the mixtures involves a stationary phase (the chromatography paper), which a mobile phase (solvent) moves up through. When the mixtures is applied to the paper and allowed to flow with the mobile phase, the different pigments move at different rates (Campbell, 1996). This means the pigments that absorb the strongest to the stationary phase (the chromatography paper) will move the slowest, while the weakest will move the fastest. The rate of the pigments movement will separate each pigment individually from the mixture (Maitland, 2002). This natural separation shows that each pigment is chemically different and plays different roles in photosynthesis (Maitland, 2002). To analyze the separated pigments a spectrophotometer is used to obtain an absorbance spectrum. This spectrum is a graph that shows a pigment s light absorption versus wavelengths ... This process is referred to as fissure eruption. Once the magma is released from the volcano, it is called lava. Fissure eruptions can occur over a wide area, but over a few hours or days, they typically become a central vent from which the pressure will continue to be released. Occasionally, lava will flow back into the ground by pouring into a crack or an open eruptive fissure, a process called drainback. Lava can also flow back into the same fissure from which it erupted (Krock, 2002). Regardless of where the lava flows, the change in the terrain is called a lava plateau. First we have to understand that although John s Gospel has much in common with the other New Testament gospels, it is largely independent from the others as well (Koester 4). Some similarities that John and the synoptic Gospels have is they all link Jesus to the town of Nazareth. They all say that Jesus had a group of disciples, he taught others, he healed those in need of healing, and they all recorded the scene of feeding the five thousand. Later, her mother would tell her that he never considered [her]. He was set on [her], that was what it was not love (146). Even after the fiancé is reported missing and assumed dead, the protagonist remains dislocate[ed] from everything, and when she finally marries, Mrs. Drover s movements remain circumscribed, as she dismisses thoughts that she and her husband are being watched (Bowen 145). Clearly, whatever the abuse that the protagonist suffered, has made a lasting scar. Mentally, she is as damaged as her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Jonathan Edwards the Great Preacher Essay He was a man whose very words struck fear into the hearts of his listeners. Acknowledged as one of the most powerful religious speakers of the era, he spearheaded the Great Awakening. This was a time when the intense fervor of the first Puritans had subsided somewhat (Heyrmen 1) due to a resurgence of religious zeal (Stein 1) in colonists through faith rather than predestination. Jonathan Edwards however sought to arouse the religious intensity of the colonists (Edwards 1) through his preaching. But how and why was Edwards so successful? What influenced him? How did he use diction and symbolism to persuade his listener, and what was the reaction to his teachings? In order to understand these questions one must look at his life and works ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edwards was influenced by Locke s Essay Concerning Human Understanding (1717) which said that for an individual to truly experience the word of god he must possess empirical knowledge, that is experience it firsthand, which contrasted with Calvinism s idea of predestination (1). Locke s essay had a great impact on Edwards because it made him realize that when he gives sermons, his listeners should experience firsthand the message of God by making his audience more in tune with their spiritual selves. At Yale he was also interested in the workings of the human mind (1). His foray into the human mind would help him in life to manipulate others to listen to his message. Overall his childhood and early years would help Edwards persuade others to listen to his message. He does this well with his brilliant use of persuasive language to manipulate the emotions and thoughts of others. Edward s is able to persuade his listeners to follow his doctrine by manipulating their emotions and thoughts while they listen to his sermon. In his speeches Edwards evoked vivid, terrifying images of the utter corruption of human nature (Heyrmen 1) which terrified his listeners and made them receptive to the message he was preaching. One particular development can be found in a letter from 1743 that Edwards himself wrote to Thomas Prince a Boston preacher. The letter describes Edwards s attempts at preaching to groups of young listener s. Two young men were so overcome with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. A New Event Planner Entrepreneur, And New Computer... Introduction In a previous project, I identified three top trends in my profession and delivered the information in an annotated bibliography. As a new event planner entrepreneur, I conducted research on what s trending in the event planning industry and my top trends were creativity, event driven marketing (EDM), and new computer technology. An extension of the project required an archive based qualitative approach to one of the trends. I chose to conduct research on EDM based on the following factors: 1) EDM presented a distinct approach to direct marketing and traditional database marketing which typically use statistical data. 2) Several resources provided the most dynamic, measurable information and varying utilization in multiple industries. 3) The results from implementing EDM presented a positive effect on key performance indicators. EDM is a discipline within marketing where companies aim to access identifiable changes in a customer s individual needs. In this context and described by Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, an event is defined as a detectable change in an individual s circumstances, that is relevant and significant, either in fact or in their mind. A significant event is a major occurrence in a customer s life. EDM is also synonymous with event based marketing (EBM) and Trigger based marketing. As a new event planner entrepreneur, conducting research and accurately identifying the impact of any possible issues in EDM is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Compare And Contrast Cyrano De Bergerac A great nose may be an index of a great soul (Rostand 30). This quote by Cyrano is one of many interesting quotes that the play Cyrano de Bergerac contains. The play is a dramatic comedy written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand about a cadet named Cyrano who has fallen in love with the beautiful women Roxane. On the contrary, Roxanne, which is a movie based off of the play Cyrano de Bergerac, takes place in the 1980 s and takes the same plot. The two stories have many comparisons and contrast in many ways. One example of this is between the two characters Cyrano and C.D. Both Cyrano and C.D are known for their incredible ability at doing their jobs. Cyrano is known for being one of the best cadets to ever live and C.D is an excellent Fire Chief. Although they are both widely known for their success, their panache and their massively large noses steal the show. In fact, just by saying the word nose , Cyrano or C.D would immediately pop into someone s mind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... the scene between C.D and a random man at a bar. Valvert, a young and insolent man, and the random man decide to insult Cyrano and C.D s large nose and both immediately regret it. Cyrano and C.D embarrass them both as they critique their insults and then come up with 20 of their own hilarious jokes off of the top of their head. The difference in the scenes is that Cyrano makes it clear to all that his swordplay is spectacular when he battles Valvert. Cyrano is challenged to duel Valvert and during their duel Cyrano starts to realize that Valvert is having trouble with Cyrano. He then decides to challenge himself by making an incredibly well written poem to put him in his place while dueling him and eventually killing him. C.D does not kill anyone, but when the random man attacks C.D, he is countered and knocked out by C.D in one strike. This scene is one of most important scenes that share differences and ... • 36. Rocks of Ages by Stephen Jay Gould Rocks of Ages is Stephen Jay Gould s commentary on the conflict between secular scientists and religious believers who reject scientific theory when in it is disagreement with religious teachings about nature and origin of the natural world. Certain aspects of his argument hold true, but the application is impossible and still gives one magisteria a dominance over the other. While it is an accurate account of historical disagreements and critical views of well known people, his argument is flawed by human nature. He repeatedly contradicts himself and maintains a bias in favor of scientific theory. Gould begins the extended essay by explaining the purpose of the novel. The preamble is a summary of the present war that exists only in people s minds and social practices. He believes that science and religion cannot be unified or synthesized, but they should not experience conflict, because science is to define the natural world, and religion the moral aspect. Gould argues that if each realm is separate, then they should not encounter arguments. He calls this the principle of Non Overlapping Magisterium or NOMA. The idea is that the fullness of humanity can only be achieved when science and religion are each allowed to contribute in areas for which that particular mode of thinking is most appropriate, and restricted from interfering in domains for which it is not. His largest supporting illustration is given by comparison to the also non overlapping domain of art. Most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
