An analysis of Schools of Psychotherapy as they relate to Anger Management
Anger is a basic human emotion that transcends cultural boundaries. However, despite its universality,
an exact definition agreed upon by all people is lacking (Norcross Kobayashi, 1999). Physiologically,
brain centers in the amygdala are connected to anger processing. Because the information processing
that takes place in this brain structure is primitive, anger can be triggered inappropriately and without
the individual s knowledge of the cause. In psychodynamic terms, past events and experiences
suppressed in the unconscious can be the source of generated anger. In cognitive behavioral terms,
anger is described as an interaction of behavior, cognition, and ... Show more content on

However, by exploring the various characteristics of the different schools of psychotherapy,
similarities and compatibilities become apparent, which can lead to a more integrative and eclectic
approach to anger management.
The Psychodynamic Approach
The psychodynamic approach can be traced to Sigmund Freud in the late 19th century and the early
part of the 20th century. He first concentrated on a cathartic method to release repressed emotions
associated with past experiences and then began to focus on a free association method and the
development of transference (Messer, 2001). Underlying the psychoanalytic perspective is the idea of
the unconscious. The unconscious is where past experiences and true emotions are hidden.
Manifestation of an undesirable trait, such as anger, along with excessive use of defense mechanisms
lead to the assumption of a deeper conflict hidden within the unconscious. Psychodynamic techniques
try to gain access to the unconscious and make the patient aware of the underlying conflict (Phares
and Trull, 2001). Among the emphases of psychodynamic therapy are a focus on the evocation and
expression of emotion to uncover the patient s unconscious issues, the importance of emotional insight
in which the patient can experience and comfortably understand his emotion, a concentration on a

Native American Reaction To Native Americans
It has been highly debated whether or not the Native Americans initially had a positive or negative
reaction to the foreign settlers that began to come in large waves to a previously unexplored continent.
There are many historians who claim that the Native Americans immediately reacted with distrust to
the new arrivals, and in some cases and to certain extents this is true. However, it has been shown that
the Natives at first viewed the Whites and Spanish with curiosity and courtesy rather than initial
violence. The Indians were very intrigued with the weaponry of the new peoples and the clothes they
wore, as well as the language they spoke. They did not, at the time, realize the true intentions of the
aliens . It was only after the grievances that were caused as a result of their expeditions that they
began to react to them with distrust and hate. It has been shown that the Native Americans initially
saw the new foreigners as objects of curiosity and interest rather than objects of wrath and destruction.
This curiosity stemmed from many factors such as the clothing that the new comers wore, the
weaponry that these people held and wielded with such confidence, as well as the language and
culture which had never been encountered before. Initially each of the Native American tribes were
very interested in the culture exhibited by the Europeans as they began to populate the Eastern Coast
and the South Americas. Some of the most impactful ideologies that were not only

Characters In Ragtime
Bella Cooney
August 10th, 2015
Characters of Ragtime Each one of the characters in this book have a completely different personality
than the others. E.L. Doctorow portrayed all of these characters really well. What makes this book
interesting is that the characters are a mix of actual historical figures, and imagined characters made
up by Doctorow. Not many authors could blend both types of characters and get a successful result,
but Doctorow pulled it off and created a fantastic book. Baron Ashkenazy otherwise known as Tateh a
fictional character, first came into sight as an artist who sold silhouettes on the streets. He has a little

The Collapse of the Qing Dynasty Essay
Explain the key reasons for the collapse of the Qing Dynasty.
The Qing Dynasty s collapse was due to three main influences, with underlying reasons involved in
each. The first being foreign intervention related strongly to militarism, gunboat diplomacy,
imperialism and the rise of unequal treaty systems. The second influence was China s failure to reform
and uprisings, such as the boxer rebellion and lastly economic decline. These three factors ultimately
resulted in the downfall of the dynasty.
The Qing Dynasty relied heavily on the effectiveness of its fighting forces. However, due to
corruption and loss of skills the military began to crumble. Militarism, the use of army for political
advantage, became very influential for a large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a major example of imperialism as these treaties favored foreign trade but China didn t gain
any concession from the foreigners. This in turn weakening the economic power of china and the
governments control over the country weakened.
Failure to reform was mainly due to weak and ineffective leadership, the conservatives, and especially
corruption of the dynasty and its officials.
Ineffective leadership and very luxurious living of the emperors and government officials also led to
the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. Officials were left in charge of the administration of the dynasty
because the two emperors of the time, Tongzhi and Guangxu were still children, and this lack of
imperial control gave Cixi the ability to rule from behind the curtain .
Corruption was also throughout many aspects of the administration of the Qing Dynasty. Many
officials increased their own personal fortunes by raising peasant s taxes and by pocketing money,
which was to be used for infrastructure, such as the river mitigation project.
Finally uprisings and economic decline plunged the Qing Dynasty into failure because of the
rebellions, peasant discontentment, which both resulted in resentment of the dynasty. Another factor
influencing the economic decline was natural disasters.
Irresponsible spending and the luxuries experienced by the emperor and

The Scientific Revolution and Its Impact
Throughout the Scientific Revolution, scientists and natural philosophers created a new scientific
world by questioning popular ideas and constructing original models. During the 1500s and 1600s, the
concept of individualism, the principle of being independent and self reliant, began to be applied to
one s life. People began to have individual thoughts and started to disagree with commonly believed
ideas promoted by the Church. As this way of thinking expanded throughout Europe, scientists looked
to others for clarification and support on scientists ideas. Scientists needed the acceptance of others
and the money of patrons to spread their ideas and discoveries. During this era the work of scientists
were positively impacted by the views of society, the influence the church had over the general public
and the power held by political leaders.
The acceptance of science throughout society aided in the expansion of scientific ideas. Once the
general public recognized science, it became easier for scientists to communicate and build off each
other s ideas. During the scientific revolution, people in society looked toward their community for
reinforcement. Henry Oldenburg was a scientist, a philosopher, and the secretary for the English Royal
Society, a learned group of scientists. Oldenburg believed that scientists and philosophers should work
together to help science achieve its highest potential (Document 5). Even other members of the
scientific society believed

Sherman Alexie The Joy Of Reading
Academic Blog Post: EJ Goings (9/4/2015)
Thinking back on all of the academic posts that we have worked on, I believe that there is some sort of
pattern between Villanueva, Mellix, and Alexie stories. All have been able to overcome struggle, face
adversity, and strive and maintain excellence in mastering English and literacy skills. Their adversity
allowed them to grow internally, allowing their external layer to be polished and perfected. In the
Alexie piece, Alexie believed that Indian children were expected to be stupid . (Sherman Alexie, The
Joy of Reading and Writing) When a child expectations are low and they are told they will not amount
to anything, they begin to believe and process those thoughts. Thus, making it very hard for a child to
learn at their own rate. I highly believe that a support system is needed in order to become successful
in not only a school system, but life as well. Alexie also talked about how Indian children excelled
outside school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

would not see this as a turning point in their lives, this signified that he was on the path of discovering

Generations and generations of this game I so dearly love, practicing day and night to better myself

his feeling of euphoria, celebrating with all his friends and family. Back to me, playing with my
brothers of blood and other on many different of these ball parks; fields in the country feeling of
Ontario, or the green desert of Banning, the beautiful city of Palm Springs, the high desert of Yucca
Valley and more. The most important is our home diamond, Desert Hot Springs. Our baseball field,
the place where boys go to forget about all their problems. A simple ball with 108 red double stitches,
the love of my life. I can hear as the ball whizzes through the air, the seams tearing the wind for that
perfect curve or the rising fastball. The pinging sound the bat makes as you rip the ball for a base hit,
truly a ravishing sound to hear. A piece of land filled with hard clay dirt, mixed with rocks and sand
and the yellowing grass that is full of fire ants that shoot stinging pains throughout our players. Many
potholes or the uneven dirt levels home plate has; down the two crooked white painted foul lines, two
towering yellow poles with screens on each side. Many players are cycled throughout the years on the

Essay on Titanic
Titanic Original Writing
Titanic, 882 feet long, 92 feet broad, 45000 tons register, 66000 tons displacement and 175 feet high.
The biggest and most luxurious ship known to mankind, and she was sitting right in front of me. She
looked even bigger in real life and I felt great anticipation and excitement. A chance of a lifetime, I
was one of the few lucky enough to be chosen to actually work onboard the Titanic.
It was just an hour until the Titanic would set sail on her maiden voyage and I felt I little nervy about
boarding her. I decided that the only way to settle my nerves was to consume a moderate amount of
brandy. I entered the local bar, which overlooked Southampton dock where the ... Show more content

waiting for it I listened in on a conversation between two men who looked like engineers. One of the
men was arguing that the Titanic was too heavy and large to float whilst the other man argued that it
was unsinkable due to its water tight compartments . I turned back to the bar and drank my brandy in
one. I d had enough of the smell and the noise in the bar and made a quick exit.
As I approached the Titanic I grabbed hold of my bags and took a deep breath. This voyage was to be
the experience of a lifetime and hopefully the start of a career that I had always been looking for. As I
clambered up the stairs with my bags, I looked back at the dock for one last time, as I would not see it
in months. The first look of Titanic s interior blew me away; it was like walking into a floating palace.
As I walked around the ship I was amazed at all the modern technology they had onboard, it even had
a heated swimming pool, along with other things like a squash court and a gym. By the time I got back
to my starting point I was exhausted. I decided the best thing to do to avoid all the passengers, was to
relax in the first class dining saloon. The saloon was not yet open to the boarding passengers and

Re: Sherman Antitrust Act
Facts
John Davison Rockefeller was the founder of Standard Oil Company in 1870 and ran it until he retired
in 1897. Standard Oil gained almost complete control over the oil refining market in the United States
by underselling its competitors. Rockefeller and his associates owned dozens of corporations
operating in just one state.
The Sherman Antitrust Act was enacted on July 2nd, 1890 which prohibits activities that restrict
interstate commerce and competition in the marketplace.

Furthermore, the subjectmatters of the combination and the combination itself are not excluded from
the scope of the act as being matters of intrastate commerce and subject to state control.
In Standard Oil Co. v. United States, 221 U.S. 1 (U.S. 1911) Standard oil and 37 other corporations
were alleged to have engaged in conspiring to restrain the trade in petroleum and monopolize the
petroleum industry. The Supreme Court ruled that combining the defendants oil companies stock to be
a restraint of trade and an attempt to monopolize the oil industry and maintain dominance and
therefore a violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act.
Furthermore, in Standard Oil Co., the Supreme Court stated that The term monopoly, ... as used in the
Sherman Act was intended to cover such monopolies or attempts to monopolize as were known to
exist in this country; those which were defined as illegal at common law by the States, when applied
to intrastate commerce. The Supreme Court went on to further state that the principles of the common
law applied to interstate as well as to intrastate commerce.

violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act, even though the conduct

The Endangered Wildlife Trust
Based on the provided case study, Stakeholder Management and the Endangered Wildlife Trust ,
written by Gavin Price, I will address the following three questions: 1. What are the main issues of the
case? 2. What should the CEO do and why? 3. What lessons have you learnt and how could they be
used? Looking at the history of the organisation, it has come a long way since 1979 in developing its
brand, reputation and presence in the market. However, with a number of factors outside their control,
the main issues that the organisation faces are: * Reduced funding from sponsors, organisations and
trustees which is a result from the dip in the economy and organisations are faced with the reality to
reduce costs * Strategic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

organisations such as the World Wildlife Fund in instances where a joint effort would result in an even
large reward for the environment and man kind * There are opportunities to introduce subjects around
nature conservation as a career option and study choice in primary and high school. With the level of
education and pass rate being as low as it is in South Africa, majority of our youth may be deemed
unfit for the corporate workplace, but it will open doors into nature conservation and the likes. This
will in turn reduce the reliance of the lower income earners on grants for basic survival * In house, the
CEO would need to periodically re evaluate all projects underway to measure its impact to date,
irrespective of which stage in the process it may be. This will allow her to make the necessary changes
in funding allocation more easily, providing flexibility to change with the times * Branding and
advertising has historically been a sponsored output and how much creative input was provided by the
CEO is unknown. Competitions, for instance, can be held where a premium SMS can be sent to vote
for the best branding, resulting in an improved brand which has been socialised and proceeds from the
SMSs can go to implementing selected

Security Vulnerability of the World Wide Web Essay
Everyday tech users are increasingly engaged with web and mobile applications. These programs have
many uses and can be very helpful in progressive usage. However, these applications also serve as the
most accessible point of entry for malicious attackers to wreak havoc. The continual growth and usage
of web applications makes the infrastructure one that is susceptible to attack due to lack of thorough
security implementation. The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) is a community based

The data can contain malicious content in various forms such as JavaScript, HTML, Flash, or any
other form of executable code. There are also a variety of attacks that can occur through this method,
the most common being transmission of private data, redirection to malicious web content, or
executing malicious operations on the user s machine. XSS attacks can be categorized into two
categories despite the wide array of possible paths of exploitation; stored XSS attacks and reflected
XSS attacks. Stored XSS attacks permanently store the injected script on the target server, and by
requesting the compromised data the victim is susceptible to the malicious script. This is labeled as the
most dangerous type of XSS attack because a majority of web applications require some form of
storage therefore making a majority of applications prime targets. The point of success for the attacker
is simply to have a user visit the page with the stored exploit, this simple success standard can be
easily achieved making this even more challenging. These types of attacks are also known as
Persistent XSS Attacks or Type I XSS attacks. Reflected XSS attacks occur when the injected script is
reflected off the web server. The delivery of the attack is via an alternative path such as through email
or via another website where the user engages with the malicious link. This allows the malicious code

Poetry Form Essay
Poems are a form of writing with a set meter. Most poems have an end rhyme scheme to accompany
the meter. Poems, like short stories, have symbols. Although short story symbols were not the easiest
to identify, the symbols in poems are sometimes even harder to determine. Poems also include
metaphors, imagery, a certain tone, and always have a set audience. Lyrics are the most obvious type
of poetry to date. A song has a rhythm and when the lyrics are sung to the beat a poem is created.
Lyrics are not the only form of poetry. There are many different forms poetry can take on. Sonnets are
probably the second most known form of poetry. Sonnets are made up of 14 lines, have end rhyme,
and have a meter. There are two main forms of a sonnet; Shakespearean (English) and Petrarchan
(Italian).
The Italian sonnet was created by a man named Petrarch in the 14th century. This sonnet is made up of
an octave (8 lines) and a sestet (6 lines) adding up to the sonnets grand total of 14 lines. A Volta, or
dramatic change in the emotion, comes after the octave. The theme of the Petrarchan sonnet can
generally be found within the ending sestet. Two centuries later a new type of sonnet was born. The
Shakespearean sonnet was created by none other than the late William Shakespeare. The English
sonnet is made up of three quatrains (4 lines) and an ending couplet (2 lines) creating the iconic 14
lines. The Volta comes after the 3rd quatrain leaving the couplet as the space for the poems theme.

Born in the digital age and surrounded by digital products, students today are referred as digital
natives who have gained specific technical skills and are fundamentally different from the older
generations in the way of thinking and processing information, thus they require a new educational
approach (Prensky, 2001). To engage with the younger generations, Prensky (2001) suggests that
educators, who are considered as digital immigrants, should change their teaching methodology and
content. As the development of information technology in the 21st century has significantly increased
the speed and greatly ameliorates the way students communicate and gather information, digital
technologies such as computers and digital games are now suggested

Personal Protective Equipment Essay
Many work environments depend on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep
workers safe. Although healthcare environments may be the first industry that comes to mind, people
who work with hazardous chemicals, dangerous machinery or equipment, and others all require
specific articles of PPE to stay safe.
Keeping PPE on hand and in excellent condition, however, is only a portion of the safety protocol.
Using and removing equipment correctly, at the right place and at the right time, is also required to
minimize the risk of employee injury or contamination.
Different types of PPE are designed to offer employees different types of protection. Those who work
with machinery are likely to require gloves as well as eye and ear protection at a minimum. Those
who work in healthcare environments may require anything from a basic respirator and gloves to full

Studies have confirmed the need for improvement in training procedures to help employees learn how
to adequately protect themselves. When full protective equipment is required, all parts of the body
must be completely shielded due to the risk of exposure to infected blood or bodily fluids.
Training employees to follow specific guidelines, such as the following for healthcare facilities, will
help to minimize the risk of contamination:
Studies verify that when workers are taught how to properly remove their PPE at an appropriate time
and place, positive changes tend to quickly become habits. Workers naturally want to protect
themselves but often need instruction on how to achieve that goal.
Once you have determined which types of PPE are needed and have provided your employees the
proper training to correctly use them, maintaining that usage over time will be the mark for true
success. PPE itself will need maintenance and replacement and the workers involved will require
periodic bouts of refreshment in safety

The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things by...
Hieronymus Bosch created The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things around 1500. Bosch
made the tabletop painting with oil paint on wood panels; He created it in Brabant, which is presently
known as the Netherlands. Incredibly, this masterpiece was conceived as a piece of furniture to adorn
the bedroom in King Philip s Escorial palace. The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things
enlightened people about sins and stopped many from committing wrongdoings by instilling fear in
people; It stopped people in their tracks and brought ethics to attention. Hieronymus Bosch
masterfully applies symbolism and literalism to illuminate the seven deadly sins and the process of
death.
Hieronymus Bosch, was born in Brabant, now known as the Netherlands, around 1450. He was a
northern European painter of the late Middle Ages, and is considered to be mysterious and elusive in
history. His inspiration to become an artist began because his father, brother and uncles were painters,
and therefore it is believed he was trained, or mentored, by a relative growing up. He may have been
influenced by his religious group for a period time, because a majority of his art had religious themes.
In 1488 he joined the highly esteemed Brotherhood of Our Lady, an arch conservative religious group
of around 40 influential citizens of Hertogenbosch, and 7,000 outer members from around Europe.
Religion heavily influenced his style because of his Catholic beliefs, and a majority of his works

Teresa And The Acquisition Of Virtue
In the pages recounting her life, the sixteenth century Carmelite nun Saint Teresa of Ávila provides a
specific view regarding how virtue is a gift granted by God that must be fostered through a Christian s
actions and community, a gift that is tested by corresponding vices. To Teresa, vices simply amount to
twisted virtues. Teresa casts God as the . . . true Virtue, from which all virtues spring . . . and,
convexly, casts the human race as distanced from God, and therefore, distanced from virtue (Teresa
99, 58). In order to acquire virtue, God s grace is critical and all efforts are useless without it (92).
Instead of Christians sowing virtues, Teresa states that God alone plants virtues within His followers
(118). Once planted, it is up to each individual to foster each virtue, lest it be taken away. According to
Teresa, the development of each virtue represents a long journey (263). The fully grown tree also must
be protected, as the individual must take care, to not permit worms, sent by the devil, to ravage the
tree (230). Virtues, in fact, equate to splendid jewels to be taken away if their bearer forgets to polish
and display them (73).
Teresa further argues the ability to nurture any virtue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She outlines the four ways to water God s garden: draw water from the well by hand, draw water from
the well with the help of a windlass, use a river or stream, or receive heavy rain (78). The first three
methods require work, but the last is purely God s wish to multiply the virtues within a person (83).
God may see some need for this non Christian, whom he still loves, to have this character trait in order
to fulfill God s plan or purpose. This could explain the capacity for some amount of pure virtue within

Drafting A Leadership Philosophy
1 Why should you have a leadership philosophy?
Leadership philosophy has a foundational element to it. The different components included create a
strong basis on which to build on and take your leadership forward. You are better equipped to lead
and to succeed in your leadership with a leadership philosophy due to three core benefits: character,
consistency and collaboration.
Character
Drafting a leadership philosophy will provide clarity and focus to your character. Character matters
because it influences your everyday decision making and communication with other people. Without a
proper understanding of your character and the traits you truly value, you are more likely to fall into
bad habits and to let emotions control you. By making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before providing you with the format for your written philosophy, we are going to explain why having
a published leadership philosophy matters. As you ll see in the next section a written leadership
philosophy statement can be useful in getting to the heart of your true values and ideas. By having a
written statement, you are sure to have a reminder of the ideals you want to be pushing towards. But it
can be more beneficial to have the leadership philosophy published or at least shared with a few
people because it increases your accountability. If you are the only one aware of your leadership
principles, you don t need to worry about others calling you out on doing something against your
values since no one has knowledge of them. On the other hand, if you are loosing your sense of
direction, a person who has seen your leadership philosophy statement can nudge you back in the right
direction. The objectives you want to deliver and the values you want to keep at the heart of your
leadership will be known. Even the knowledge that people have access to your statement or your
closest friends or mentors know them can be enough to keep you focused on following your

The Cost Of A Gallon Of Gas Prices
In January 2016, the cost of a gallon of gas dropped below two dollars, and consumers were rejoicing.
Driving that car with twelve miles to the gallon car wasn t so bad. Going to the grocery store was a
little cheaper because of the transportation costs of goods. Americans could afford a like extra and
never wonder about why the gas dropped. We were still hurting from three dollars or more for a
gallon. Companies in the United States started drilling for oil on American soil in larger quantities
than before two years earlier in 2014. Jobs in the industry were aplenty. Young adults straight out of
high school could go into training for a year and come out making six figures by they were twenty
five. The amount of oil produced was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oil towns started dying when the restaurants and stores have no more customers, because there was no
money. This could start a domino effect and cause an economic meltdown in states like Texas, New
Mexico, and North Dakota (Egan). This event was caused by the U.S. s dependence on imported
foreign oil, because when the U.S. imports more than half of the oil it uses on a daily basis, someone
else has the control over the economy. Energy dependence is not a new problem but one that started in
1973 after the oil embargo. It was caused by the Arabian government cutting off the oil and gas supply
as a protest against the U.S. support for the Israel in the war between Egypt and Syria (Myre).
President Richard Nixon gave a speech claiming his plan called Project Independence could produce
enough energy needed in America and stop importing oil and gas by 1980. Then in 1975, President
Gerald Ford had a similar plan with a deadline of 1985, and this was the cycle that lasted eight
presidents so far. The deadline has now been moved up to 2025, but now, the U.S. is in a hole more
than ever before. In the 1970s, imports only accounted for about 30% of all oil consumed. In 2010,
imports account for 60% to 70% of all oil consumed. This problem has accelerated almost to the point
of no return (Gottesdiener). The idea of energy independence is that the U.S. would not import any oil
or gas from outside counties and produce all energy needs inside the U.S.

The author of the excerpt Great Smoky Mountains National Park is able to convey that the creation of
the Great Smoky Mountains was successful. He is able to do so by revealing the popularity of the park
today and by telling how the park is full of biodiversity and beauty. One way that the author way able

Stages of Economic Reform in China
China had gone through a major reformation that is called Socialism with Chinese characteristics that
started in late 1978, sparked by a very influential politician and leader, Deng Xiaoping. The
reformation is carried out in different stages. It is very important to understand these stages, as each
stage is the prerequisite for China to move to another stage. Large scale of government planning is
heavily involved throughout the reformation. Despite having to go through financial crisis couple of
times, globally and throughout Asia, China seemed to respond quickly and effectively to handle these
difficult situations. As of today, China remains as an admiration and aspiration for not only countries
in Asia, but also around the world. According to Tian (1996), there are three stages of economic
reform in China. The first stage is characterized by economic liberalization. This stage was said to be
the most remarkable stage as it has greatly changed the Chinese people s values, thinking and
behavior. The changes were first introduced to people in rural areas and later to other industries and
geographic areas. The first stage involved a lot of efforts to the development of foreign trade. China
began to adopt decentralized decision making and various types of incentive mechanisms. China has
been using its abundant supply of labor effectively since then. The second stage of the economic
reform is described by marketization. This stage can only be carried out effectively only

the company s goals and status. The report is only a couple of pages with Darden Restaurant s most
updated goals and performance summary for that period. The latest sustainability report that I found
on the Darden Restaurant s official website is from 2015. Although the goals stated in 2015
sustainability report are achieved, yet the company still wants to maintain

The Italian Renaissance And The Renaissance
The Italian Renaissance was an explosion of art, writing, and thought, that roughly lasted between
1300 to 1600. In this time each citizen, countrymen, or villager had and performed different jobs and
careers. Humanism the study of Greek and Roman writings, art, and architecture, initially jump started
the Renaissance, and the need for art. Artists now were inspired to use life like art and linear
perspective, so art seemed and was more realistic. The start of the Italian Renaissance was the start of
a new world and culture for Europe.
During the Italian Renaissance the citizens and people of Italy were just now changing their mindsets
on life. There was a celebration of life and the human spirit by survivors of the Bubonic Plague ...

First, the Italian artists and scholars pulled inspiration from the Roman ruins that surrounded them.
Second, western scholars studied ancient Latin writings and manuscripts that over the years were
preserved in monasteries. Third, when the Turks conquered Constantinople in 1453, Christian scholars
fled with Greek manuscripts to Rome.
This new study of the ancient world led to humanism. Humanism was an intellectual movement that
focused on human achievements and potential. Humanists studied the classic texts to understand
ancient Greek values. The word humanist and humanism come from the Latin word humanitas, which
refers to the literary culture that every educated person should possess. Humanists study subjects
common to classical education; such as history, literature, and philosophy along with rhetoric. These
subjects are considered the Humanities. These classical traditions were passed on by humanists to
artists and architects.
The advantage that Italy had was the smaller city states. The smaller city states allowed more citizens
to be involved in politics besides the arts. Humanism suggested that a person can enjoy life without
offending God. The wealthy enjoyed good music, fine foods, and material luxuries. Now the spirit of
the Renaissance was secular meaning worldly. Italians were concerned with the here and now and
moved away from the church and pope. But along with the Italians the church leaders also lived in
beautiful mansions, and

Michael Wayne s The Dark Knight
Over the years, Batman s character had become a household name when discussing anti heroes from
the DC universe. Although not every comic book fan would consider him an anti hero, people would
still associate anger and broodiness when referring to the character of Bruce Wayne due to his
apparent dark nature. Frank Miller s the Dark Knight Returns had changed things; not just did it focus
on Batman s broody nature, but it had also expanded on the internal battles that had been the cause of
the darkness and the reason for Batman s questionable methods. Miller managed to bring needed
humanity to Batman that had been missing in earlier ages. The qualities that made the Dark Knight
more in touch with his humanity were; having his origin story trauma affect him until adulthood,
experiencing internal psychological conflict, and possessing moral flaws.
Throughout book one of the comic, there were several panels in which Bruce Wayne s trauma was
mentioned. It seemed that Bruce s childhood trauma of seeing his parents killed had followed him into
his adulthood. On pages 22, the reader was clearly able to understand Bruce s internal battle as he
attempted to convince himself that [ the Mark of Zorro] is just a movie. That s all it is. No harm in
watching it, (Miller, 22). On both page 22 and 23, Miller was able to present a very human condition
that usually followed trauma; PTSD. The strategy of showing a more human side effect was able to
express how human Batman still was at his

Customs and Courtesies in the Army
The Army in an extremely nostalgic organization with a copious amount traditions and has about a
million different methods of conducting its business. Some are old and some are new, but possibly the
oldest one that has been around since before the Army was officially established and still lives today is
the Armys rules, regulations and policies on customs and courtesies. In this form of a remedial block
of instruction given to me by my team leader, due to certain circumstances I am to explain the Armys
customs and courtesies and the importance they have always and still do hold within the Army. The
Army is an organization that imprints pride and discipline in its soldiers, both enlisted and
commissioned officers, because of its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soldier guilty of these acts is just hurting his own career in the long run by getting negative
counselings which after so many are going to turn into an article 15 with extra duty or lose of pay and
rank or all three combined. The other soldier or soldiers on the team could end up suffering as well
just by having to work with such a dysfunctional team. Or perhaps one of the other soldiers might
want to go to a school or something of the sort they might look at how the team functions and assume
that he is the same as well and will consider what they will see as a better choice for certain
opportunities, privileges and favorable actions. Aside from just making your individual team look bad
it ll make your whole platoon look bad in the eyes of the rest of the company. They will see a team
leader having a hard time with his soldier and the only thought that will be going through their mind is
look at how that platoon is . They will not see it as just one person, they will see it as that specific
section or platoon as a whole. This comes from my own personal experience and the things I have
heard people say when it comes to such matters. It is important to practice good customs and
courtesies because actions and behaviors are contagious. They can either influence people to do good
or spread like a poison and cause damage which I have personally seen as well. Proper customs and
courtesies help start and

Constitutional Changes After The American Revolution
Merriam Webster s dictionary defines a revolution as an, activity or movement designed to effect
fundamental changes in the socioeconomic situation. or, a fundamental change in the way of thinking
about or visualizing something. In this sense, the constitutional and social developments of the United
States of America between 1860 and 1877 amount to a drastic revolution. Previously to Abraham
Lincoln s election to the position of the American Presidency, slavery was an institution deeply rooted
in Southern American s way of life. Throughout Lincoln s terms and following his assassination,
America underwent many constitutional changes and dealt with a changing social order as well. The
most notable of these was the uprooting of the institution of slavery and the effect it had on the United
States of America. Senator John Sherman, a Republican from Ohio, gave a speech in congress in 1863
in which he discussed new banking and currency systems. In this speech, he highlighted some
revolutionary actions taken by states. He stated that, It has been the principle of states rights, that bad

based on servitude... Where is that?... Gone forever... We have revolutionized this Constitution of ours
to that extent and every substantial change in the fundamental constitution of a country is a revolution.
If one during that time could acknowledge that the events occurring between 1860 and 1877 were a
revolution, one can do so

Analysis Of Yanggaw Or Affliction By Richard Somes
Yanggaw or Affliction (2008) by Richard Somes is a story of family struggle as they deal with their
daughter s (Amor) transformation into an aswang (monster) due to an unidentified illness. Amor, a
loving and courteous daughter, morphs into a monster that lives on the blood of others every midnight.
Such transformation leads to several conflicts within the family and the community. This paper will
discuss the conflicts in the family in relation to Amor s transformation and how it affected their
relationship with one another.
When Amor exhibited signs of illness, the family consulted a supernatural faith healer named Lazarus
but to no avail. The situation escalates and Amor is found near a river with blood all over her mouth
and body. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rest of the family, on the other hand, believes that the Amor they had known and loved before has
already fused with the evil. Inday says to his husband, Junior, Your daughter is a beast. This implies
the belief that in some way, Amor is already a beast, no matter how hard she try to fight this evil
persona. Inday acknowledges that this reality cannot be changed anymore so the last resort is to chain
their daughter to prevent her from killing people from the community. These two conflicting
perspectives threaten their relationships with one another. Junior invokes his patriarchal power in the
family and decides to unchain Amor despite objections from the rest of the family. Inday and the rest
protest against this patriarchy and choose to leave Junior and Amor in search of a more peaceful life.
Eventually, they return as they realize that they should stick together as one family to face the tragedy
of Amor s transformation. This illustrates how the duality of identity created through the intervention
of the aswang can bring out the best and the worst in people. On one hand, the tragedy resulted to the
clash of beliefs which threatened the family relationship but it also brought back the family together to
face the

  • 2. An analysis of Schools of Psychotherapy as they relate to... An analysis of Schools of Psychotherapy as they relate to Anger Management Anger is a basic human emotion that transcends cultural boundaries. However, despite its universality, an exact definition agreed upon by all people is lacking (Norcross Kobayashi, 1999). Physiologically, brain centers in the amygdala are connected to anger processing. Because the information processing that takes place in this brain structure is primitive, anger can be triggered inappropriately and without the individual s knowledge of the cause. In psychodynamic terms, past events and experiences suppressed in the unconscious can be the source of generated anger. In cognitive behavioral terms, anger is described as an interaction of behavior, cognition, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, by exploring the various characteristics of the different schools of psychotherapy, similarities and compatibilities become apparent, which can lead to a more integrative and eclectic approach to anger management. The Psychodynamic Approach The psychodynamic approach can be traced to Sigmund Freud in the late 19th century and the early part of the 20th century. He first concentrated on a cathartic method to release repressed emotions associated with past experiences and then began to focus on a free association method and the development of transference (Messer, 2001). Underlying the psychoanalytic perspective is the idea of the unconscious. The unconscious is where past experiences and true emotions are hidden. Manifestation of an undesirable trait, such as anger, along with excessive use of defense mechanisms lead to the assumption of a deeper conflict hidden within the unconscious. Psychodynamic techniques try to gain access to the unconscious and make the patient aware of the underlying conflict (Phares and Trull, 2001). Among the emphases of psychodynamic therapy are a focus on the evocation and expression of emotion to uncover the patient s unconscious issues, the importance of emotional insight in which the patient can experience and comfortably understand his emotion, a concentration on a ... • 3. Native American Reaction To Native Americans It has been highly debated whether or not the Native Americans initially had a positive or negative reaction to the foreign settlers that began to come in large waves to a previously unexplored continent. There are many historians who claim that the Native Americans immediately reacted with distrust to the new arrivals, and in some cases and to certain extents this is true. However, it has been shown that the Natives at first viewed the Whites and Spanish with curiosity and courtesy rather than initial violence. The Indians were very intrigued with the weaponry of the new peoples and the clothes they wore, as well as the language they spoke. They did not, at the time, realize the true intentions of the aliens . It was only after the grievances that were caused as a result of their expeditions that they began to react to them with distrust and hate. It has been shown that the Native Americans initially saw the new foreigners as objects of curiosity and interest rather than objects of wrath and destruction. This curiosity stemmed from many factors such as the clothing that the new comers wore, the weaponry that these people held and wielded with such confidence, as well as the language and culture which had never been encountered before. Initially each of the Native American tribes were very interested in the culture exhibited by the Europeans as they began to populate the Eastern Coast and the South Americas. Doctorow portrayed all of these characters really well. What makes this book interesting is that the characters are a mix of actual historical figures, and imagined characters made up by Doctorow. Not many authors could blend both types of characters and get a successful result, but Doctorow pulled it off and created a fantastic book. • 5. The Collapse of the Qing Dynasty Essay Explain the key reasons for the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. The Qing Dynasty s collapse was due to three main influences, with underlying reasons involved in each. The first being foreign intervention related strongly to militarism, gunboat diplomacy, imperialism and the rise of unequal treaty systems. The second influence was China s failure to reform and uprisings, such as the boxer rebellion and lastly economic decline. These three factors ultimately resulted in the downfall of the dynasty. The Qing Dynasty relied heavily on the effectiveness of its fighting forces. However, due to corruption and loss of skills the military began to crumble. Militarism, the use of army for political advantage, became very influential for a large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was a major example of imperialism as these treaties favored foreign trade but China didn t gain any concession from the foreigners. This in turn weakening the economic power of china and the governments control over the country weakened. Failure to reform was mainly due to weak and ineffective leadership, the conservatives, and especially corruption of the dynasty and its officials. Ineffective leadership and very luxurious living of the emperors and government officials also led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. Officials were left in charge of the administration of the dynasty because the two emperors of the time, Tongzhi and Guangxu were still children, and this lack of imperial control gave Cixi the ability to rule from behind the curtain . Corruption was also throughout many aspects of the administration of the Qing Dynasty. Many officials increased their own personal fortunes by raising peasant s taxes and by pocketing money, which was to be used for infrastructure, such as the river mitigation project. Finally uprisings and economic decline plunged the Qing Dynasty into failure because of the rebellions, peasant discontentment, which both resulted in resentment of the dynasty. Another factor influencing the economic decline was natural disasters. Irresponsible spending and the luxuries experienced by the emperor and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Scientific Revolution and Its Impact Throughout the Scientific Revolution, scientists and natural philosophers created a new scientific world by questioning popular ideas and constructing original models. During the 1500s and 1600s, the concept of individualism, the principle of being independent and self reliant, began to be applied to one s life. People began to have individual thoughts and started to disagree with commonly believed ideas promoted by the Church. As this way of thinking expanded throughout Europe, scientists looked to others for clarification and support on scientists ideas. Scientists needed the acceptance of others and the money of patrons to spread their ideas and discoveries. During this era the work of scientists were positively impacted by the views of society, the influence the church had over the general public and the power held by political leaders. The acceptance of science throughout society aided in the expansion of scientific ideas. Once the general public recognized science, it became easier for scientists to communicate and build off each other s ideas. During the scientific revolution, people in society looked toward their community for reinforcement. Henry Oldenburg was a scientist, a philosopher, and the secretary for the English Royal Society, a learned group of scientists. Oldenburg believed that scientists and philosophers should work together to help science achieve its highest potential (Document 5). Even other members of the scientific society believed ... Sherman Alexie The Joy Of Reading Academic Blog Post: EJ Goings (9/4/2015) Thinking back on all of the academic posts that we have worked on, I believe that there is some sort of pattern between Villanueva, Mellix, and Alexie stories. All have been able to overcome struggle, face adversity, and strive and maintain excellence in mastering English and literacy skills. Their adversity allowed them to grow internally, allowing their external layer to be polished and perfected. In the Alexie piece, Alexie believed that Indian children were expected to be stupid . (Sherman Alexie, The Joy of Reading and Writing) When a child expectations are low and they are told they will not amount to anything, they begin to believe and process those thoughts. XSS attacks can be categorized into two categories despite the wide array of possible paths of exploitation; stored XSS attacks and reflected XSS attacks. Stored XSS attacks permanently store the injected script on the target server, and by requesting the compromised data the victim is susceptible to the malicious script. This is labeled as the most dangerous type of XSS attack because a majority of web applications require some form of storage therefore making a majority of applications prime targets. The point of success for the attacker is simply to have a user visit the page with the stored exploit, this simple success standard can be easily achieved making this even more challenging. These types of attacks are also known as Persistent XSS Attacks or Type I XSS attacks. Reflected XSS attacks occur when the injected script is reflected off the web server. • 13. Poetry Form Essay Poems are a form of writing with a set meter. Most poems have an end rhyme scheme to accompany the meter. Poems, like short stories, have symbols. Although short story symbols were not the easiest to identify, the symbols in poems are sometimes even harder to determine. Poems also include metaphors, imagery, a certain tone, and always have a set audience. Lyrics are the most obvious type of poetry to date. A song has a rhythm and when the lyrics are sung to the beat a poem is created. Lyrics are not the only form of poetry. There are many different forms poetry can take on. Sonnets are probably the second most known form of poetry. Sonnets are made up of 14 lines, have end rhyme, and have a meter. There are two main forms of a sonnet; Shakespearean (English) and Petrarchan (Italian). The Italian sonnet was created by a man named Petrarch in the 14th century. This sonnet is made up of an octave (8 lines) and a sestet (6 lines) adding up to the sonnets grand total of 14 lines. A Volta, or dramatic change in the emotion, comes after the octave. The theme of the Petrarchan sonnet can generally be found within the ending sestet. Two centuries later a new type of sonnet was born. The Shakespearean sonnet was created by none other than the late William Shakespeare. The English sonnet is made up of three quatrains (4 lines) and an ending couplet (2 lines) creating the iconic 14 lines. The Volta comes after the 3rd quatrain leaving the couplet as the space for the poems theme. Both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things by... Hieronymus Bosch created The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things around 1500. Bosch made the tabletop painting with oil paint on wood panels; He created it in Brabant, which is presently known as the Netherlands. Incredibly, this masterpiece was conceived as a piece of furniture to adorn the bedroom in King Philip s Escorial palace. The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things enlightened people about sins and stopped many from committing wrongdoings by instilling fear in people; It stopped people in their tracks and brought ethics to attention. Hieronymus Bosch masterfully applies symbolism and literalism to illuminate the seven deadly sins and the process of death. Hieronymus Bosch, was born in Brabant, now known as the Netherlands, around 1450. He was a northern European painter of the late Middle Ages, and is considered to be mysterious and elusive in history. His inspiration to become an artist began because his father, brother and uncles were painters, and therefore it is believed he was trained, or mentored, by a relative growing up. He may have been influenced by his religious group for a period time, because a majority of his art had religious themes. In 1488 he joined the highly esteemed Brotherhood of Our Lady, an arch conservative religious group of around 40 influential citizens of Hertogenbosch, and 7,000 outer members from around Europe. • 18. Teresa And The Acquisition Of Virtue In the pages recounting her life, the sixteenth century Carmelite nun Saint Teresa of Ávila provides a specific view regarding how virtue is a gift granted by God that must be fostered through a Christian s actions and community, a gift that is tested by corresponding vices. To Teresa, vices simply amount to twisted virtues. Teresa casts God as the . . . true Virtue, from which all virtues spring . . . and, convexly, casts the human race as distanced from God, and therefore, distanced from virtue (Teresa 99, 58). In order to acquire virtue, God s grace is critical and all efforts are useless without it (92). Instead of Christians sowing virtues, Teresa states that God alone plants virtues within His followers (118). Once planted, it is up to each individual to foster each virtue, lest it be taken away. According to Teresa, the development of each virtue represents a long journey (263). The fully grown tree also must be protected, as the individual must take care, to not permit worms, sent by the devil, to ravage the tree (230). Virtues, in fact, equate to splendid jewels to be taken away if their bearer forgets to polish and display them (73). Teresa further argues the ability to nurture any virtue ... Among all these rumors, the one about how Gatsby was a bootlegger was true, and more, he was also involved with the man who fixed the World Series, Wolfsheim. This could start a domino effect and cause an economic meltdown in states like Texas, New Mexico, and North Dakota (Egan). This event was caused by the U.S. s dependence on imported foreign oil, because when the U.S. imports more than half of the oil it uses on a daily basis, someone else has the control over the economy. Energy dependence is not a new problem but one that started in 1973 after the oil embargo. It was caused by the Arabian government cutting off the oil and gas supply as a protest against the U.S. support for the Israel in the war between Egypt and Syria (Myre). President Richard Nixon gave a speech claiming his plan called Project Independence could produce enough energy needed in America and stop importing oil and gas by 1980. Then in 1975, President Gerald Ford had a similar plan with a deadline of 1985, and this was the cycle that lasted eight presidents so far. The deadline has now been moved up to 2025, but now, the U.S. is in a hole more than ever before. In the 1970s, imports only accounted for about 30% of all oil consumed. In 2010, imports account for 60% to 70% of all oil consumed. This problem has accelerated almost to the point of no return (Gottesdiener). As of today, China remains as an admiration and aspiration for not only countries in Asia, but also around the world. According to Tian (1996), there are three stages of economic reform in China. The first stage is characterized by economic liberalization. This stage was said to be the most remarkable stage as it has greatly changed the Chinese people s values, thinking and behavior. The changes were first introduced to people in rural areas and later to other industries and geographic areas. The first stage involved a lot of efforts to the development of foreign trade. China began to adopt decentralized decision making and various types of incentive mechanisms. China has been using its abundant supply of labor effectively since then. Second, western scholars studied ancient Latin writings and manuscripts that over the years were preserved in monasteries. Third, when the Turks conquered Constantinople in 1453, Christian scholars fled with Greek manuscripts to Rome. This new study of the ancient world led to humanism. Humanism was an intellectual movement that focused on human achievements and potential. Humanists studied the classic texts to understand ancient Greek values. The word humanist and humanism come from the Latin word humanitas, which refers to the literary culture that every educated person should possess. Humanists study subjects common to classical education; such as history, literature, and philosophy along with rhetoric. These subjects are considered the Humanities. These classical traditions were passed on by humanists to artists and architects. The advantage that Italy had was the smaller city states. The smaller city states allowed more citizens to be involved in politics besides the arts. Humanism suggested that a person can enjoy life without offending God. The wealthy enjoyed good music, fine foods, and material luxuries. Now the spirit of the Renaissance was secular meaning worldly. • 27. Michael Wayne s The Dark Knight Over the years, Batman s character had become a household name when discussing anti heroes from the DC universe. Although not every comic book fan would consider him an anti hero, people would still associate anger and broodiness when referring to the character of Bruce Wayne due to his apparent dark nature. Frank Miller s the Dark Knight Returns had changed things; not just did it focus on Batman s broody nature, but it had also expanded on the internal battles that had been the cause of the darkness and the reason for Batman s questionable methods. Miller managed to bring needed humanity to Batman that had been missing in earlier ages. The qualities that made the Dark Knight more in touch with his humanity were; having his origin story trauma affect him until adulthood, experiencing internal psychological conflict, and possessing moral flaws. Throughout book one of the comic, there were several panels in which Bruce Wayne s trauma was mentioned. It seemed that Bruce s childhood trauma of seeing his parents killed had followed him into his adulthood. On pages 22, the reader was clearly able to understand Bruce s internal battle as he attempted to convince himself that [ the Mark of Zorro] is just a movie. That s all it is. No harm in watching it, (Miller, 22). On both page 22 and 23, Miller was able to present a very human condition that usually followed trauma; PTSD.
