Marion Pritchard Quotes
Marion Pritchard was a WWⅡ hero. She registered Jewish children and took them under her wing as
one her own and went and found safe non Jewish homes for them. Marion was someone who was a
survivor during WWII and she helped people. She also made people feel safe by bringing them to a
safer place. The things she did went down in history and she was known as a hero. Some people
thought of her as a hero but some did not. I wonder why they didn t think of her as a hero, but we will
find out. One day, she recalled, as she was riding her bicycle to class, she saw Nazis at the children s
home picking up the kids by an arm or a leg or by the hair (NY Times) and throwing them into a truck.
This quote shows evidence that she is a hero by her thinking of the children that were being mistreated

Born in Amsterdam in 1920, Pritchard learned from her parents to treat people with respect and
understanding. This quote also shows evidence that she was a hero by the reason behind why she
helped people. Well besides the fact that she didn t like the way Jews were being treated. She needed
to respect people and treat them the way she wanted to be treated. I think that Marion Pritchard is a
hero based on this evidence. People may not think she is a hero by her saying this, By 1945, I had lied,
stolen, cheated, deceived and even killed. I think that may put a perspective on how people would see
her but I think she is a hero. She saved people and mostly children from dying. Marion is no Oskar
Schindler, but she made an impact in her own way. She is a hero is many eyes and she may not be in
some but she brings her heroism to her own kind of heroism by doing what she did back

External Influences on the Accounting Profession
External Influences on the Accounting Profession The Accounting profession is distinguished by the
heavy demand placed upon its practitioner to adhere to laws, standards, regulations and best practices.
Any failure to do so may result in financial loss, economic oversights and even legal penalties. As a
result, it is incumbent upon the accounting professional to recognize and abide the external influences
that help to define the field. Distinct political, economic and cultural factors converge to define
practice within the accounting profession. Today, accountants are subject to the same global economic
changes that are impacting professional in every sector. With the deconstruction of global barriers, a
whole new host of economic realities must drive accounting decisions, requiring knowledge of the
economic practices not just in a domestic country of operation but also in a partner state or states. This
combines with pointed domestic pressures emerging from political systems such as that in the United
States. Quite to this point, a panel called the Investors Technical Advisory Committee (ITAC),
according to Reuters (2009), roundly criticized the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) for
its clear vulnerability to outside pressures derived by political agendas. According to the Reuters
article, the panel released a statement accusing the FASB of setting new accounting and financial
reporting standards with a laxity sought by a coalition of government officials,

Bipolar Disorder, Formerly Known As Manic-Depression, Is
Bipolar disorder, formerly known as manic depression, is a mental disorder. This disorder causes the
individual to experience severe mood swings, from elation to depression. Individuals with bipolar
disorder can experience serious changes in thinking, energy and behaviour. The different states of
those with bipolar experience are referred to as episodes . These episodes can last days, weeks or
months, depending on the severity of the episode. There are three main types of episodes, they are
mania, depressive and psychotic states. Mania describes the state in which the individual experiences
extreme happiness and euphoria, a high of sorts. People who are having a manic episode display
symptoms such as; feeling full of energy, not eating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The exact cause of bipolar disorder is still unknown, however, there are many factors which that can
work together to make it more likely for an individual to develop bipolar disorder. These factors vary
from each person, therefore, one factor that produces the onset of bipolar disorder may not cause
someone else to develop the illness. It is believed there may be a correlation between genetics and
bipolar disorder. Researchers have theorised that there is a genetic predisposition for the disorder as it
tends to run in families, with Kerner stating, the heritability of bipolar disorder based on concordance
rates for bipolar disorder in twin studies has been estimated to be between 60% and 80%. (Kerner
2014). Despite these figures, other studies have been inconsistent and inconclusive in proving the
linkage. Studies have shown environmental factors play a major role in the development of bipolar
disorder. One of the most significant environmental factors observed in relation to the onset of bipolar
disorder is childhood trauma or abuse. This can be observed by looking at the study conducted by
Alvarez et al which, examined 102 patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective
disorder and showed that nearly half (47.5%) of these patients had suffered childhood abuse. (E.
Brietzke et al. 2002). Childhood abuse is a common cause of various mental illnesses and disorders.

Motivator Factors Of A Burnout
Burnout
A burnout refers to the distressed psychological state an employee might experience after being on the
job for a period of time. Employees who suffer from a burnout are emotionally exhausted and have
low work motivation (i.e. possessing little energy and enthusiasm for the job). Burnouts are the results
of working intensely with other people. A study in 2000 done by Bakker, Schaufeli, Sixma, Bosveld
and Van Dierendonck found that patient demands are associated with burnout in physicians and led to
emotional exhaustion (e.g. absence and fatigue), depersonalization (e.g. hostility towards others or
callous and uncaring treatment of clients and other people) and reduced personal accomplishment (e.g.
low motivation and poor performance).

For example, the company can give bonuses and rewards to motivate the consultants to work harder.
This can be supported by Herzberg (1968), in his two factor theory. There are two categories of needs:
Hygiene and Motivator factors. Hygiene factor include pay, supervision, and organisational policies.
Lack of this factor would lead to dissatisfaction. However, presence of this factor would not
necessarily lead to satisfaction because these are the basic, foundational needs for employees. The
next factor, motivator factor, includes achievement, recognition, responsibility, and nature of job itself.
Presence of this factor would lead to job satisfaction. However, absence of this factor leads to lack of
satisfaction and not dissatisfaction. Thus, giving rewards and bonuses (a form of recognition and
achievement) would allow these employees to be more satisfied with their jobs. They would also be
motivated to perform better at work and this subsequently leads to better overall

Kant And Kant s Moral Ethics
According to Kant, We have these absolute duties to ourselves and these duties to oneself become the
supreme principle of all duties. Therefore, these supreme self duties are the reason why moral ethics
exist, and without our duties to oneself there would be no other duties, nor would we, as a species,
survive at all. However, these self regarding duties can be very contradicting, but can help us
understand the bigger picture of the categorical imperative.
Kant believes that we must act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will
that it should become a universal law. (Grounding, 421) This one and only categorical imperative is
the starting principle of all other imperatives of duty. In relation to these imperatives, duties to others
are derived from our own duties to ourselves. Initially, Kant introduces both perfect and imperfect
duties to oneself and to others, which ultimately follow the categorical imperative.
First the perfect duty to oneself is to not commit suicide. This duty questions the principle of self love
and how it can be held as a universal law of nature, but this is where the contradiction begins. In this
example, the principle of self love cannot be a universal law because in this case this law would
destroy life by means of the very same feeling that acts so as to stimulate the furtherance of life, and
hence there could be no existence as a system of nature. (Grounding, 422) Therefore, the opposite of
this maxim of retaining

Depression Is Not Only A State Of Feeling Sad
Depression is not only a state of feeling sad, it is an illness that overpowers the ability to feel emotion,
whether bad or good. Depression involves the mind, and it also involves the body and thoughts. This
disorder can be passed down through genes or can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. A
biological cause of this disorder would be something such as enlarged adrenal glands. People who are
depressed have a lower count of neurotransmitters involved with depression. An imbalance of
hormones can also be connected to depression, therefore, when having too high of count of a hormone
related to stress in particular (cortisol), depression may occur. Unfortunately, depression affects twenty
percent of all Americans. Women are more likely to become depressed than men. Genes also have a
lot to do with Depression. While studying twins, scientists have found that there is a powerful genetic
influence in depression. Identical twins are three times more possible to have depression than fraternal
twins raised in the same environment. In lecture we discussed that rates of MDD are two times greater
in those with firs degree relatives. Symptoms caused by major depression can vary from person to
person. Although depression may occur only one time during a person s life, some people have
multiple episodes of depression. During these episodes, symptoms occur most of the day, nearly every
day for two weeks and may include: feeling sad and hopeless, and loss of interest, as

My First Ride At Night
It was eleven o clock at night. The rain showered my face as I ran through dirt and gravel towards my
step father s familiar police car, and with each step I took, rain water splashed in every direction. I
hurriedly jumped into the lifelessly black passenger seat of the police car. This was my first time
sitting a cruiser, and it was much more petite than I had expected. Studying the inside of the cruiser, I
noticed that the interior of the car was entirely the blackest of black, completely colorless and boring. I
was eager to go on my first ride along. I could not help but to imagine what I may witness. Although I
knew the chances of something exciting happening were slim, I held on to that miniscule chance of
having an exciting night. My step father, Andy, jumped into the driver seat of his police car, which
appeared to be quite sizable compared to the passenger seat that I resided in. He turned on the
computer that rested in between he and I as I glanced over at the computer as curiosity had struck
about what was on it. There was an assortment of letters and numbers; I had not the slightest clue as to
what they meant. The only thing I knew, was that the assortment was a series of police codes. Andy
informed me that the first thing he does, at the beginning of each shift, is to get gas because he is not
allowed to get bellow a half of a tank for safety reasons. As we drove to a Duchess Shop, I looked out
of the window, studying the cars that we passed. Each car

The Year Of Wonders By Geraldine Brooks
Oppression is defined as, the exercise of authority or power in a burdensome, cruel, or unjust manner
(dictionary.com), and is found all around the world. There is essentially two parts to oppression: the
oppressor, who is demonstrating his power by displaying cruelty towards the second part of
oppression, the oppressed. The oppressed take part in offenses made by the oppressor, that usually
contain a cruel, and unfair burden towards them. The world has demonstrated this profound
relationship since human history first began, not only in their way of life, but in literature. For
example, Geraldine Brooks, displays the oppressors, in her novel The Year of Wonders, by implicating
strong men, and a powerful family; while the oppressed are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Panem is significantly lacking fellowship and liberation while under the oppressive rule of the Capitol.
People are suffering and working endlessly each and every day inside the districts, while everybody in
the Capitol is living a superb and wealthy life. In order for this to change, Panem needs to reflect on
these views, and change their way of life. In the novel, Peeta says, Only I keep wishing I could think
of a way to... to show the Capitol they don t own me. That I m more than just a piece in their games
(Collins 142). He has already reflected the lack of liberation in Panem, and is now trying to envision a
way to fix it. This needs to be the mentality of everybody in Panem. Cutting out oppression, and
increasing fellowship, liberation, and solidarity, will disembody the life they are living now, and
produce an improved way of life for everybody in Panem. In his novel, Pedagogy of the Oppressed,
Paulo Freire also says, It is only when the oppressed find the oppressor out and become involved in
the organized struggle for liberation that they begin to believe in themselves. This discovery cannot be
purely intellectual but must involve action (Freire). The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, is
linked to this quote. This novel is based out of South Carolina in 1964, at the time when the civil
rights movement was strong, and the Jim Crow laws were still intact. Black people were treated

Analysis Of The Lottery By Shirly Jaxson
The theme of the 2 story s The Lottery by Shirly Jaxson and First they came ... by Martin Niemoller is
it is dangerous to follow blindly . The lottery is a story were everyone still does this tradition that
basically gets people killed if they win then the towns people throw rocks at the people who won .
They first came is a poem and it is about how the Nazis come for all of these different people and he
did not stand up then they came for him and no one else was there to help him so basically taking the
right path is not always the easiest path . So basically the two story s are saying it is dangerous to
follow the crowd and it can end in disastrous consequences .
The lottery is in a little town in the southern part of the world were it was summer so it was the time
for the lottery . In the story the author says But in this village of about only 300 people . Then the
author said The children gather first of course they recently got out of school for summer . Also he
says The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny .
In first they came it is in WW2 it is a poem were he goes with the crowd the they come for him and no
one would help him . He says that They first came for the socialist and then the Unionist and then the
Jews and then him . First the came is a first person story . In First they came the Nazis do not like
people .

Hilton ITT Case Study Essay
1. Why might Bollenbach have opened his bidding for ITT at $55 per share? What was his likely
strategy?
The $55 value is on the lower range of the analyst eztimates, with a best guess estimate of $67.94.
Since the value of the stock had been below $45 for 4 months, the offer of 55 dollars represented a
29% premium to investors. Bollenbach knew that management would be resistant of any attempt to be
acquired, regardless of price, because of failed previous attempts to negotiate a friendly merger at year
end 1996. The 55 dollar benchmark created an expectation for ITT management to achieve that level,
or higher and the premium is enough to demonstrate to investors it is a real offer. Their support will be
key as they will have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bollenbach knew that the next steps would be critical or the deal to go through. As such it was
necessary to first research the investors and arbiters to have better negotiation tactics when the time
comes. The resistant board of directors had not changed in the mean time and would likely resist any
offer, including the unlikely event of another contender entering bidding. If the price of the stock fell
below the $55 range, or the Board of Directors changed Bollenback would likely aggressively
negotiate with shareholders to close the deal as quickly as possible.
3. ITT s value has changed a lot over the recent events. Prior to any offer when ITT s stock was
trading at 43 dollars, the stand alone value of its equity was 16.4 billion dollars. With the 55 dollar
offer to ITT, the company s value went up to approximately 21 billion. After the offer, the stock was
trading at $63.50, which gave the total equity a value of 24.2 billion dollars. With the proposed
trivesture proposal, the company would lose synergistic value as three separate companies, compared
to one large company. Examples of these include a number of overhead costs which gain economies of
scale. In addition, ITT likely has synergistic revenues coming from the fact that it operates all three
business segments. Analyst estimates indicate that the present value of the synergies whichh ITT
stands to loose with the proposed trivesture have a NPV between $900 and

Affliction In Jews
At the end of the summer of 1944, the Jewish High Holidays arrive: Rosh Hashanah, the celebration
of the new year, and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Despite their imprisonment and affliction,
the Jews of Buna come together to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, praying together and praising God s
name. On the Jewish holiday, Eliezer s religious rebellion gets even worse, and he cannot find a
reason to bless God in the midst of so much suffering. Eliezer mocks the idea that the Jews are God s
chosen people, deciding that they have only been chosen to be killed. He comes to believe that man is
stronger than God, stronger and more forgiving. His denial of faith leaves him alone, or so he believes,
among the 10,000 Jewish celebrants in Buna. Leaving the

How Did King David Have Bladed Weapons
Did you know that swords were a major weapon of war during the ancient and medieval history? They
are also called the gentleman of all weapons. They were bladed weapons that have two parts namely
the blade and the handle or the hilt. Blades were made of a hard metal, steel, or bronze. They were
sharpened blades that could be single edged or double edged.
The width varied with the culture and era and so did the type of hilt. They could be one handed or
double as per the weight and maneuver of the sword. The hilt could be wood, leather, ivory or bone.
The warriors and the knights relied on swords a lot. They were brisk, agile, graceful and flexible.
Some were very elaborately decorated.
What type of sword did King David use to cut off Goliath s head? No one knows, however, the bible
says King David ran and took Goliath s sword and cut off his head . King David did not have a sword
in his hand; therefore God had to provide a sword for David because David had spoken the words.

Sacrifices
Hello, my name is Villette Jones and I am here to give my thoughts, definition, and analysis on
Sacrifice. Sacrifice has many different meaning and even more synonyms to go along with it, a few
words or phrases that catch my immediate attention when thinking of Sacrifice are ( Cede, Immolate,
Endure, and Part With ). However when I asked associates and my peers majority of them thought of
Forfeit. When I take time to really think, in my own opinion Sacrifice is Forfeit, Suffering, and
Offering. These are very significant second hand words to my original word (Sacrifice), and as you
read along I will show you exactly what I mean by it.
The meaning I get from the word Forfeit is Loses, a Penalty, and being deprived of something. Forfeit
is such a major second hand word to Sacrifice and the reason forfeiting is so major, is because
majority of the time you re losing something of significant value. A great story of someone having to
forfeit something for a greater cause is Everett Alvarez Jr. Alvarez Jr is a former U.S Navy

The U.S. has been dealing with issues the country s face such as national debt and also budget deficit

There was a time when the budget became extremely high and implementing was brought about from
ideas of congress such as deficit control measures. Congress took it upon themselves in 1985 to make
many laws about national debt and budget deficit control measure. This brings me to a quote I read out
of the textbook, Between 1980 and 1993 budget deficits grew steadily in dollar terms, and the nation
debt tripled. Since 2003, the public debt has grown by more than $500 billion each year; as July 2012,

Porphyry deposits can occur in a variety of settings, an island arc is a distinctive feature of the Red
Chris deposit (Sinclair, W.D., n.d.). The Red Chris deposit displays features of both alkalic and calc
alkalic porphyry deposits. Features like; large tonnage, strong association of copper sulfides and
quartz veins, unusually high copper gold grades, and magnetite bearing potassic alteration (Gillstrom,
Anand, Robertson, February 14, 2012). It is estimated that the Red Chris deposit contains 1.2 billion
tons of ore, grading at 0.327% copper, and 0.327g/t gold. The Red Chris deposit is not considered a
gold rich deposit, because it is commonly considered that in order for a porphyry deposit to be a gold
rich deposit, it must contain an amount greater than 0.4 g/t of gold (Sinclair, W.D.,

beatrice is the vita nuova Essay
A very poignant moment in any person s life is when they meet someone who they regard so highly
that they place on a pedestal in their mind. If ever there was a doubt of love at first sight, Dante
Alighieri disproves the disbelief with his first sighting of Beatrice in his Vita Nuova. When Dante
recounts his second encounter with Beatrice he says that she greeted him but does not state how
exactly she acknowledged him. The ineffable courtesy that she greeted him with implies that the
encounter was not spoken. Through complete silent encounters, the love Dante harbors for Beatrice
still continues to flourish. In one of Dante s sonnets he says the following: ... Show more content on

Beatrice defines Dante s being because as far as he is concerned she is the image of divinity and Christ
on earth. Dante describes Beatrice as the destroyer of all vices and queen of virtues. Although no
words were ever exchanged between the two, Dante was miserable after Beatrice s death. He wept and
mourned her death for a year and yet there was never any substantial interaction of exchanged words
to conceive what in this lady s silence to Dante could have possibly sparked such an admiration for
her. The depth that he is able to feel for this lady through silent greetings indicates that Beatrice could
possibly be an underlying representation of something highly regarded in life such as the church. She
represented the epitome of all Dante wanted from life. Although the word was never said, inferences
could be made to the symbolism that Beatrice personified. Beatrice s death symbolizes how the
innocent die for the guilty in order for the guilty to find salvation. As far as Dante is concerned,
Beatrice is the model of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Beatrice dies because of her innocence, just as Jesus
sacrificed himself for the guilty.
The extent that one man is able to feel love for a lady that never speaks a word to him is incredible.
Beatrice s greetings are what defined Dante s existence and what controlled every turn that his life
took. If Dante had not encountered Beatrice

The Little Rock Nine
The Little Rock Nine
Living in the 21st Century, it is difficult to imagine a time in the history of the United States that black
students could not attend the same public schools that white students attended. In his famous speech, I
Have a Dream, Dr. Martin Luther King said, I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its
vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and
nullification, one day, right there in Alabama, little black boys and little black girls will be able to join
hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. Desegregation, in the southern
states, especially Arkansas, did not come without a price to Dr. King as well as nine black students ...

Jefferson Thomas never got the opportunity to find his friends. Ministers from different denominations
tried to help the nine get into the school. They attempted to enter two or three times, but the guards
blocked them every time and said You can t enter here (America.gov), so they eventually just turned
around and walked home. Jefferson Thomas was the track athlete who transferred from Horace Mann
High School, to Central High (The Encyclopedia of Arkansas History and Culture). All nine of the
students were threatened and harassed daily, but the bullies found Jefferson Thomas, the shy one, an
easy target. The white students kept me running; they kept me in shape (America.gov). Gloria Ray
was a fifteen year old student, when she registered at Central High, for her junior year. Gloria Ray
remembers the night the FBI agents came to her house to get her fingerprints. This was done, so it
would be easy to identify her body when they found it later. One white student in particular harassed
Gloria Ray daily. She called her names and pushed and shoved her. She even knocked Gloria Ray
across the floor on one occasion (Campell). Carlotta Walls LaNier, the youngest member of the Little
Rock Nine, enrolled as a sophomore. She was inspired by Rosa Parks, the black woman who refused
to give up her bus seat to a white student.

Slavery in the South Essay
Slavery in the South
A large majority of whites in the South supported slavery even though fewer of a quarter of them
owned slaves because they felt that it was a necessary evil and that it was an important Southern
institution. In 1800 the population of the United States included 893,602 slaves, of which only 36,505
were in the northern states. Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New
York, and New Jersey provided for the emancipation of their slaves before 1804, most of them by
gradual measures. The 3,953,760 slaves at the census of 1860 were in the southern states. Eminent
statesmen from the earliest period of the national existence, such as Thomas Jefferson and George
Washington regarded slavery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If at one time slavery had been common in much of the Americas, by the middle of the 19th century it
remained only in Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the southern United States. In an era that celebrated
liberty and equality, the slaveholding Southern states appeared backward and repressive. This drew
most Northerner s into the abolitionist movement not so much for the behalf of slaves, but how
slavery made the United States look. Despite this, the slave economy grew rapidly, enriched by the
spectacular increase in cotton cultivation to meet the growing demand of Northern and European
textile manufacturers. Southern economic growth, however, was based largely on cultivating more
land. The South did not undergo the industrial revolution that was beginning to transform the North;
the South remained almost entirely rural. In 1860 there were only five Southern cities with more than
50,000 inhabitants (only one of which, New Orleans, was in the Deep South); less than 10 percent of
Southerners lived in towns of at least 2500 people, compared to more than 25 percent of Northerners.
The South also increasingly lagged in other indications of modernization, from railroad construction
to literacy and public education. For these reasons, many Southerners felt that slavery was all too
necessary because their agrarian economy was based around it. Many feared that the abolition of
slavery would result in a Southern economic collapse. The biggest gap between North and

Virinder Kaur POLS 202 01: International Relations Reaction Paper #1: Of Syrian Wars and US
Foreign Policies Due: October 4, 2012 Modern Syria first gained its independence in 1946, following
many years of violent strife. Before this, the state had been under a French Mandate and had suffered
under a conditional (or more aptly, false) independence, wherein the French State held veto power
over any potential laws introduced by the Syrian people (US Dept. of State). In 1970, the Baath party
came into political power in Syria in yet another bloody coup d état, with Minister of Defense, Hafiz
al Assad, taking up the mantle of President (US Dept. of State). He would remain in power up until his
death in the year 2000. This would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Foreign intervention in the Syrian Civil War will only result in a high price to be paid, mainly the US
loss of support on the international front as well as the financial expenses that the US would incur if
involved militarily. Such civil wars and intrastate conflicts between rebel groups and the government
can be resolved through diplomatic negotiations that can avoid these expenses (Frieden). The US is
not financially secure enough to engage in yet another bloody conflict in the Middle East, particularly
one as convoluted as the one in Syria. The usage of the word convoluted is significant in that it
remains uncertain who the non FSA and who the actual leaders of the rebellion are. According to
Frieden, it is difficult to gather information about who is a part of these militant groups because they
are covert and because terrorist groups have incentives to exaggerate. Furthermore, should that
question and the identities of the FSA be resolved, how would we distinguish the innocent from the
terrorists? Both important actors in these uprisings, the Syrian government, and the Free Syrian Army
and other rebel fighters, have participated in what may be considered international war crimes that
have resulted in a multitude of civilian deaths. The

RE: medical negligence

Main legal issues
Treatment without consent Charlotte, the nurse on duty, had forced James into getting the injections
therefore causing him emotional distress. Treating a competent patient who has validly refused
treatment could constitute an assault or battery. The legal provisions supporting a competent patients
right to refuse treatment in Australia can be found in both legislation throughout all the States and
common law. The Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights is also a helpful source of guidance as it
reinforces the common law position that is based upon the principle of patient autonomy. The High
Court of Australia first articulated the principle or refusal of treatment in Marion s case, stating that a
legally competent person has a right to choose what occurs with respect to his or her own person.
Under the NSW Health Patient Charter, consent in regard to an operation, procedure or treatment is
both a specific legal requirement and an accepted part of good medical practice. Medical practitioners
are also expected to clearly explain proposed treatment, and adequately inform their patients on
significant risks and alternatives associated with the treatment.Failure to do this could result in legal
action for assault and battery against a practitioner who performs the procedure. Charlotte made no
effort to explain or gain a consent from James.

Film Theory Aesthetics
In this essay I will be deconstructing stills from the music video, Died for Love, created for The
Unthanks within the module DE1194 and providing evidence on how it corresponds to existing film
theory. The music video shows the final moments in the life of housewife, Evelyn Raines, as she
struggles with the advancement of technology within 1969. The film explores themes of loss and
isolation as she prepares herself for death.
I will analyse the stills relating both to the abstract art form and also images that focus on realism,
showing how the piece uses multiple film methods to create and enhance the music video s narrative
whilst also discussing the meaning within the imagery and how specific techniques were used to
convey a certain message or emotion. Through the imagery, specific focuses will be made relating to
the cinematography, the use of colour and the intention of the shot, this will then be expanded into
how this is relatable with earlier and modern forms of cinema. I will also discuss how the images have
similarities to avant garde and surrealist films and whether animated characters can relate to live
action performances within film.

best known works includes the Parliament of Fouls, otherwise known as the Parlement of Foules.
From 1389 to 1391, after Richard II had ascended to the throne, Chaucer held a draining and

How Does American Apparel Portray Women
In advertising, companies tend to use images in which they believe will help to promote and sell their
product. One of the most common techniques that is seen in today s society is the stereotypical
portrayal of women, who tend to pose rather promiscuously as seen in Figure One. These types of
images portray women as sex objects or as submissive housewives to their husbands. This comes into
context with the advertising in which American Apparel portrays.
American Apparel has drawn a lot of attention for their marketing techniques as well as advertising.

crosses the line by objectifying and demeaning women (Martha De Lacey , 2013). This clearly has an
influence on young girls in today s society who glance through American Apparel s advertisements
and may have also added to the increase in mental and physical health as well as young girls
confidence. According to statistics, eating disorders have increasingly become an issue in society
today as well as the media s sexualized images of women are constant reminders of what society
wants all girls to be like. One of the many examples would be Figure

Nuclear Energy Pros And Cons
Some may ask what is nuclear energy the dictionary defines this as:
nuclear energy
n.
1. The energy released by a nuclear reaction, especially by fission or fusion.

Nuclear power was first known to be researched in the early 1900 s, and by the world war; it reached
its greatest peak by demonstrating to the world its power to destroy. Nuclear energy can be good or
bad, depending on how the person works with this material; it is used for both sides good and bad.

earthquakes, volcano s, water infiltration, underground flooding, nuclear chain reactions, and fossil

However, DOE contends that the evidence so far indicates that the places that they have chosen are
likely to prove suitable and that studies of the site should continue.
The safety of geological disposal of highly radioactive waste depends highly on the characteristics of
the rock formations around it from which a repository would be hollowed out. Many geological
formations are believed to have remained undisturbed for millions and millions of years, it appeared
technically possible to isolate radioactive materials from the environment until they decayed high
enough so that the level of the radioactive material is not harmful.
Scientific confidence about the subject on the deep geologic disposal has been more difficult to apply
to specific sites. Every high level waste site that has been proposed by DOE discoveries of
unacceptable flaws, such as groundwater flows or earthquake vulnerability, that could release
radioactivity into the environment, this is not good for nature.

Age Of Cheese Research Paper
What effect does the type of cheese have on mold growth? Cheese is an important ingredient which
many families across North America use in their foods to add a tasteful kick. It contains many
proteins, vitamins and minerals which are essential for growing children and many elderly. Cheese
comes in various shapes and sizes, such as Camembert, Roquefort, Mozzarella, and many more.
However, it turns out that not only humans like to consume it, but bacteria such as fungi, can develop
on cheese and cause it to decay and putrefy. Mold is a fungus that grows in the form of multicellular
filaments called hyphae. Spores are the single celled reproductive unit within bacteria, fungi, and
algae colonies which can rapidly help the mold extend a greater distance on a surface. The growth of
hyphae on a surface can cause a spoiled appearance with discoloration on foods for instance, the most
common colors that appear on food as a result of mold growth are blue, black or green. Mold can

Mobile Phones Research Paper
The world today is filled with all different type of smart phones and tablets. Technology is developing
fast and we don t know where this will leave web designers and developers and how will they proceed
in the future. As attached to our phones we are its hard to imagine how young the technology of
smartphones really are. In 1908 the first apparent wireless device came when Prof. Albert Jahnke and
the Oakland Transcontinental Aerial Telephone and Power Company believed they had industrialized
a wireless telephone. Sadly they were accused of fraud. Later the charge was dropped and production
of the device never proceeded. In 1918, German railroad systems started to test their own wireless
phones on their military trains. Trials began in 1924 and a year later Zugtelephonie A.G. was
established to supply train telephony equipment with the first telephone systems being accepted for
use in postal and other trains by 1926. On June 17, 1946 the first truly mobile phone service appeared
on June 17, 1946 under Bell Labs, which industrialized mobile phones that endorsed users to place
and receive phone calls from their automobiles. Martin Cooper, a research executive at Motorola to
Joel S Engel of Bell Labs, made the first mobile phone calls from a handheld device on April 3, 1973.
That first handheld phone, 1G (First genereation), was 10 inches long and weighed about 2.5 pounds.

The Geyser Old Faithful In Yellowstone National Park, U. A.
Paragraph 1 The Geyser Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park, U.S.A. is a geyser that has a
relatively isolated source of seismic noise. The seismic behavior of this one geyser is similar to many
volcanoes observed. Paragraph 2 Old Faithful differs from other volcanoes because the conduit is
constantly open, and rock fracturing is not a process responsible for the seismicity. Another difference
is that instead of using viscous magma the geyser uses inviscid H2O. Paragraph 3 Water rises into the
reservoir as recharge occurs which suggests that there are two large storage regions in the geyser. The
transport of heat from hot water or steam entering at the base of the recharging water into cooler
occurs because. of an upward migration of steam

Keats Poetry And The Imitation Of Spenser
According to Scott, Keats followed Spenser and Shakespeare to represent the faeries in his Poems and
Imitation of Spenser. Keats extended meditation on the faery world to begin the more mature
Hyperion fragments. The poem was read as conflating the defeat of the Titans by the Olympians with
the defeat of the British Celts by the romans: Keats was attempting to write the epic of the Celts (226).
Here Saturn was paralleled with Ossian and Moneta was seen as the Druids in The Fall Hyperion who
picked out sacrificial victims. Keats major poem, The Eve of St Agnes was the most widespread and
convincing, perhaps because, along with La Belle Dame sans Merci, the poem was obviously taken up
with the world of faerie. In The Eve of St. John, Porphyro ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scott writes in Keats s Poetry and the Politics of the Imagination that Keats himself wished, among
the English poets (Scott, Keats s Poetry and the Politics of the Imagintion by Daniel P. Watkins, 1991,
p. 408) His studies had been much more taken with language and psychology than with history or
politics. It was given in Watkins s book that Keats spent more time reading The Examiner than reading
Milton and Shakespeare and due to that reason he was more influenced by Hunt than the library of
Cowden Clarke (409). At that time, Keats appeared too much like an essayist, a journalist, a
commentator, and not enough like a poet. In this light, Watkins reads the extreme individualism and
subjectivity of Keats s poetry as a sign of the bourgeois fragmentation of human life (409). In his
longer poem Endymion, he built a journey for liberating individual power as a response to social
disintegration. This involved the active denial of the public world and the ensuing sacrifice of history,
society, and women for the designs of the private self. In Isabella, the relations of production and
human experience under capitalism; in Hyperion, the true complexity of the social and historical
conflict that threatens the Titans; in Lamia, the realities of existence in a market economy; and in Ode
on a Grecian Urn there was everything: history, politics, colonialism, the oppression of women, rape,
and the destruction of Greece. In this book, Keats s use and misuse of history were also provoking,
that was to say, the Marxist machinery was appeared too large and Keats s politics were viewed
through an example governed by reductive oppositions, broad definitions of the bourgeoisie, and
unchallenged ideological assumptions about the peaceful conditions of the pre capitalist agricultural

Romeo Is Completely to Blame for the Tragic Outcome in the...
Romeo is completely to blame for the tragic outcome in the play.
William Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet is without doubt one of the most well known love story.
Throughout the five acts of the play, one tragedy follows another, with the famous suicide of Romeo
and Juliet as a tragic conclusion. Throughout the play, it may seem that Romeo caused these events to
unfold, however it is unjust to say that he bears all responsibility for the tragedy. The decisions,
actions and circumstances that other characters made and faced have also contributed to the tragic
outcome. Nevertheless, it is also in the hands of fate that destined the immature deaths of Romeo and

However, chance and misfortune could ve been factors giving fate a helping hand. It could be by
chance that Romeo and Juliet were to meet at the ball. And it was unfortunate that the letter could not
reach Romeo as there is a plague spreading and Friar John was forbidden to leave Verona. Before they
were born Romeo and Juliet were chosen as agents of fate, and that it would be a death marked love .
Romeo himself admits that he is driven by fate: I fear too early for my mind misgives / Some
consequences yet hanging in the stars (Act1 Scene4 Lines106 107). However, even if Romeo and
Juliet did not meet at the Capulets ball, fate could make the star crossed lovers meet at another time, as
an important task has to be fulfilled as the result of this death mark d love .
Another major factor in the play is the family feud between the Capulets and the Montagues. Without
the feud, the young lovers may be together and may not have to act is such desperation that had driven
them to commit suicide. The feud has a direct impact on the actions characters decide from the very
beginning, thus, it is another important deciding factor regarding the outcome of the play.
Because both Romeo and Juliet feel intense passion for each other, they behave in a very hasty and
dangerous manner. And despite Friar Lawrence s warning to Romeo: Wisely and slow, they stumble

  • 2. Marion Pritchard Quotes Marion Pritchard was a WWⅡ hero. She registered Jewish children and took them under her wing as one her own and went and found safe non Jewish homes for them. Marion was someone who was a survivor during WWII and she helped people. She also made people feel safe by bringing them to a safer place. The things she did went down in history and she was known as a hero. Some people thought of her as a hero but some did not. I wonder why they didn t think of her as a hero, but we will find out. One day, she recalled, as she was riding her bicycle to class, she saw Nazis at the children s home picking up the kids by an arm or a leg or by the hair (NY Times) and throwing them into a truck. This quote shows evidence that she is a hero by her thinking of the children that were being mistreated and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Born in Amsterdam in 1920, Pritchard learned from her parents to treat people with respect and understanding. This quote also shows evidence that she was a hero by the reason behind why she helped people. Well besides the fact that she didn t like the way Jews were being treated. She needed to respect people and treat them the way she wanted to be treated. I think that Marion Pritchard is a hero based on this evidence. People may not think she is a hero by her saying this, By 1945, I had lied, stolen, cheated, deceived and even killed. I think that may put a perspective on how people would see her but I think she is a hero. She saved people and mostly children from dying. Marion is no Oskar Schindler, but she made an impact in her own way. She is a hero is many eyes and she may not be in some but she brings her heroism to her own kind of heroism by doing what she did back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. External Influences on the Accounting Profession External Influences on the Accounting Profession The Accounting profession is distinguished by the heavy demand placed upon its practitioner to adhere to laws, standards, regulations and best practices. Any failure to do so may result in financial loss, economic oversights and even legal penalties. As a result, it is incumbent upon the accounting professional to recognize and abide the external influences that help to define the field. Distinct political, economic and cultural factors converge to define practice within the accounting profession. Today, accountants are subject to the same global economic changes that are impacting professional in every sector. With the deconstruction of global barriers, a whole new host of economic realities must drive accounting decisions, requiring knowledge of the economic practices not just in a domestic country of operation but also in a partner state or states. This combines with pointed domestic pressures emerging from political systems such as that in the United States. Quite to this point, a panel called the Investors Technical Advisory Committee (ITAC), according to Reuters (2009), roundly criticized the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) for its clear vulnerability to outside pressures derived by political agendas. According to the Reuters article, the panel released a statement accusing the FASB of setting new accounting and financial reporting standards with a laxity sought by a coalition of government officials, ... • 4. Bipolar Disorder, Formerly Known As Manic-Depression, Is Bipolar disorder, formerly known as manic depression, is a mental disorder. This disorder causes the individual to experience severe mood swings, from elation to depression. Individuals with bipolar disorder can experience serious changes in thinking, energy and behaviour. The different states of those with bipolar experience are referred to as episodes . These episodes can last days, weeks or months, depending on the severity of the episode. There are three main types of episodes, they are mania, depressive and psychotic states. Mania describes the state in which the individual experiences extreme happiness and euphoria, a high of sorts. People who are having a manic episode display symptoms such as; feeling full of energy, not eating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The exact cause of bipolar disorder is still unknown, however, there are many factors which that can work together to make it more likely for an individual to develop bipolar disorder. These factors vary from each person, therefore, one factor that produces the onset of bipolar disorder may not cause someone else to develop the illness. It is believed there may be a correlation between genetics and bipolar disorder. Researchers have theorised that there is a genetic predisposition for the disorder as it tends to run in families, with Kerner stating, the heritability of bipolar disorder based on concordance rates for bipolar disorder in twin studies has been estimated to be between 60% and 80%. (Kerner 2014). Despite these figures, other studies have been inconsistent and inconclusive in proving the linkage. Studies have shown environmental factors play a major role in the development of bipolar disorder. One of the most significant environmental factors observed in relation to the onset of bipolar disorder is childhood trauma or abuse. This can be observed by looking at the study conducted by Alvarez et al which, examined 102 patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder and showed that nearly half (47.5%) of these patients had suffered childhood abuse. (E. Brietzke et al. 2002). Childhood abuse is a common cause of various mental illnesses and disorders. The perception of mental health has always been a very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Motivator Factors Of A Burnout Burnout A burnout refers to the distressed psychological state an employee might experience after being on the job for a period of time. Employees who suffer from a burnout are emotionally exhausted and have low work motivation (i.e. possessing little energy and enthusiasm for the job). Burnouts are the results of working intensely with other people. A study in 2000 done by Bakker, Schaufeli, Sixma, Bosveld and Van Dierendonck found that patient demands are associated with burnout in physicians and led to emotional exhaustion (e.g. absence and fatigue), depersonalization (e.g. hostility towards others or callous and uncaring treatment of clients and other people) and reduced personal accomplishment (e.g. low motivation and poor performance). In the case of PMZ, the goals set by the supervisors were too high for the employees to achieve (a revenue of $200,000 each annual year), which caused the employees to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the company can give bonuses and rewards to motivate the consultants to work harder. This can be supported by Herzberg (1968), in his two factor theory. There are two categories of needs: Hygiene and Motivator factors. Hygiene factor include pay, supervision, and organisational policies. Lack of this factor would lead to dissatisfaction. However, presence of this factor would not necessarily lead to satisfaction because these are the basic, foundational needs for employees. The next factor, motivator factor, includes achievement, recognition, responsibility, and nature of job itself. Presence of this factor would lead to job satisfaction. However, absence of this factor leads to lack of satisfaction and not dissatisfaction. Thus, giving rewards and bonuses (a form of recognition and achievement) would allow these employees to be more satisfied with their jobs. They would also be motivated to perform better at work and this subsequently leads to better overall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Kant And Kant s Moral Ethics According to Kant, We have these absolute duties to ourselves and these duties to oneself become the supreme principle of all duties. Therefore, these supreme self duties are the reason why moral ethics exist, and without our duties to oneself there would be no other duties, nor would we, as a species, survive at all. However, these self regarding duties can be very contradicting, but can help us understand the bigger picture of the categorical imperative. Kant believes that we must act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law. (Grounding, 421) This one and only categorical imperative is the starting principle of all other imperatives of duty. In relation to these imperatives, duties to others are derived from our own duties to ourselves. Initially, Kant introduces both perfect and imperfect duties to oneself and to others, which ultimately follow the categorical imperative. First the perfect duty to oneself is to not commit suicide. This duty questions the principle of self love and how it can be held as a universal law of nature, but this is where the contradiction begins. In this example, the principle of self love cannot be a universal law because in this case this law would destroy life by means of the very same feeling that acts so as to stimulate the furtherance of life, and hence there could be no existence as a system of nature. (Grounding, 422) Therefore, the opposite of this maxim of retaining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Depression Is Not Only A State Of Feeling Sad Depression is not only a state of feeling sad, it is an illness that overpowers the ability to feel emotion, whether bad or good. Depression involves the mind, and it also involves the body and thoughts. This disorder can be passed down through genes or can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. A biological cause of this disorder would be something such as enlarged adrenal glands. People who are depressed have a lower count of neurotransmitters involved with depression. An imbalance of hormones can also be connected to depression, therefore, when having too high of count of a hormone related to stress in particular (cortisol), depression may occur. Unfortunately, depression affects twenty percent of all Americans. Women are more likely to become depressed than men. Genes also have a lot to do with Depression. While studying twins, scientists have found that there is a powerful genetic influence in depression. Identical twins are three times more possible to have depression than fraternal twins raised in the same environment. In lecture we discussed that rates of MDD are two times greater in those with firs degree relatives. Symptoms caused by major depression can vary from person to person. Although depression may occur only one time during a person s life, some people have multiple episodes of depression. During these episodes, symptoms occur most of the day, nearly every day for two weeks and may include: feeling sad and hopeless, and loss of interest, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. My First Ride At Night It was eleven o clock at night. The rain showered my face as I ran through dirt and gravel towards my step father s familiar police car, and with each step I took, rain water splashed in every direction. I hurriedly jumped into the lifelessly black passenger seat of the police car. This was my first time sitting a cruiser, and it was much more petite than I had expected. Studying the inside of the cruiser, I noticed that the interior of the car was entirely the blackest of black, completely colorless and boring. I was eager to go on my first ride along. I could not help but to imagine what I may witness. Although I knew the chances of something exciting happening were slim, I held on to that miniscule chance of having an exciting night. My step father, Andy, jumped into the driver seat of his police car, which appeared to be quite sizable compared to the passenger seat that I resided in. He turned on the computer that rested in between he and I as I glanced over at the computer as curiosity had struck about what was on it. There was an assortment of letters and numbers; I had not the slightest clue as to what they meant. The only thing I knew, was that the assortment was a series of police codes. Andy informed me that the first thing he does, at the beginning of each shift, is to get gas because he is not allowed to get bellow a half of a tank for safety reasons. The Year Of Wonders By Geraldine Brooks Oppression is defined as, the exercise of authority or power in a burdensome, cruel, or unjust manner (dictionary.com), and is found all around the world. There is essentially two parts to oppression: the oppressor, who is demonstrating his power by displaying cruelty towards the second part of oppression, the oppressed. The oppressed take part in offenses made by the oppressor, that usually contain a cruel, and unfair burden towards them. The world has demonstrated this profound relationship since human history first began, not only in their way of life, but in literature. People are suffering and working endlessly each and every day inside the districts, while everybody in the Capitol is living a superb and wealthy life. In order for this to change, Panem needs to reflect on these views, and change their way of life. In the novel, Peeta says, Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to... to show the Capitol they don t own me. That I m more than just a piece in their games (Collins 142). He has already reflected the lack of liberation in Panem, and is now trying to envision a way to fix it. This needs to be the mentality of everybody in Panem. Cutting out oppression, and increasing fellowship, liberation, and solidarity, will disembody the life they are living now, and produce an improved way of life for everybody in Panem. In his novel, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Paulo Freire also says, It is only when the oppressed find the oppressor out and become involved in the organized struggle for liberation that they begin to believe in themselves. This discovery cannot be purely intellectual but must involve action (Freire). The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, is linked to this quote. • 12. Hilton ITT Case Study Essay 1. Why might Bollenbach have opened his bidding for ITT at $55 per share? What was his likely strategy? The $55 value is on the lower range of the analyst eztimates, with a best guess estimate of $67.94. Since the value of the stock had been below $45 for 4 months, the offer of 55 dollars represented a 29% premium to investors. Bollenbach knew that management would be resistant of any attempt to be acquired, regardless of price, because of failed previous attempts to negotiate a friendly merger at year end 1996. The 55 dollar benchmark created an expectation for ITT management to achieve that level, or higher and the premium is enough to demonstrate to investors it is a real offer. As such it was necessary to first research the investors and arbiters to have better negotiation tactics when the time comes. The resistant board of directors had not changed in the mean time and would likely resist any offer, including the unlikely event of another contender entering bidding. If the price of the stock fell below the $55 range, or the Board of Directors changed Bollenback would likely aggressively negotiate with shareholders to close the deal as quickly as possible. 3. ITT s value has changed a lot over the recent events. Prior to any offer when ITT s stock was trading at 43 dollars, the stand alone value of its equity was 16.4 billion dollars. With the 55 dollar offer to ITT, the company s value went up to approximately 21 billion. After the offer, the stock was trading at $63.50, which gave the total equity a value of 24.2 billion dollars. With the proposed trivesture proposal, the company would lose synergistic value as three separate companies, compared to one large company. Examples of these include a number of overhead costs which gain economies of scale. In addition, ITT likely has synergistic revenues coming from the fact that it operates all three business segments. On the Jewish holiday, Eliezer s religious rebellion gets even worse, and he cannot find a reason to bless God in the midst of so much suffering. They were bladed weapons that have two parts namely the blade and the handle or the hilt. Blades were made of a hard metal, steel, or bronze. They were sharpened blades that could be single edged or double edged. The width varied with the culture and era and so did the type of hilt. They could be one handed or double as per the weight and maneuver of the sword. The hilt could be wood, leather, ivory or bone. The warriors and the knights relied on swords a lot. They were brisk, agile, graceful and flexible. Some were very elaborately decorated. What type of sword did King David use to cut off Goliath s head? No one knows, however, the bible says King David ran and took Goliath s sword and cut off his head . King David did not have a sword in his hand; therefore God had to provide a sword for David because David had spoken the words. Sacrifice has many different meaning and even more synonyms to go along with it, a few words or phrases that catch my immediate attention when thinking of Sacrifice are ( Cede, Immolate, Endure, and Part With ). However when I asked associates and my peers majority of them thought of Forfeit. When I take time to really think, in my own opinion Sacrifice is Forfeit, Suffering, and Offering. These are very significant second hand words to my original word (Sacrifice), and as you read along I will show you exactly what I mean by it. The meaning I get from the word Forfeit is Loses, a Penalty, and being deprived of something. Forfeit is such a major second hand word to Sacrifice and the reason forfeiting is so major, is because majority of the time you re losing something of significant value. If ever there was a doubt of love at first sight, Dante Alighieri disproves the disbelief with his first sighting of Beatrice in his Vita Nuova. When Dante recounts his second encounter with Beatrice he says that she greeted him but does not state how exactly she acknowledged him. The ineffable courtesy that she greeted him with implies that the encounter was not spoken. Through complete silent encounters, the love Dante harbors for Beatrice still continues to flourish. Beatrice defines Dante s being because as far as he is concerned she is the image of divinity and Christ on earth. Dante describes Beatrice as the destroyer of all vices and queen of virtues. Although no words were ever exchanged between the two, Dante was miserable after Beatrice s death. He wept and mourned her death for a year and yet there was never any substantial interaction of exchanged words to conceive what in this lady s silence to Dante could have possibly sparked such an admiration for her. The depth that he is able to feel for this lady through silent greetings indicates that Beatrice could possibly be an underlying representation of something highly regarded in life such as the church. She represented the epitome of all Dante wanted from life. Although the word was never said, inferences could be made to the symbolism that Beatrice personified. Beatrice s death symbolizes how the innocent die for the guilty in order for the guilty to find salvation. As far as Dante is concerned, Beatrice is the model of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Beatrice dies because of her innocence, just as Jesus sacrificed himself for the guilty. The extent that one man is able to feel love for a lady that never speaks a word to him is incredible. If at one time slavery had been common in much of the Americas, by the middle of the 19th century it remained only in Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the southern United States. In an era that celebrated liberty and equality, the slaveholding Southern states appeared backward and repressive. This drew most Northerner s into the abolitionist movement not so much for the behalf of slaves, but how slavery made the United States look. Despite this, the slave economy grew rapidly, enriched by the spectacular increase in cotton cultivation to meet the growing demand of Northern and European textile manufacturers. Southern economic growth, however, was based largely on cultivating more land. The South did not undergo the industrial revolution that was beginning to transform the North; the South remained almost entirely rural. In 1860 there were only five Southern cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants (only one of which, New Orleans, was in the Deep South); less than 10 percent of Southerners lived in towns of at least 2500 people, compared to more than 25 percent of Northerners. The South also increasingly lagged in other indications of modernization, from railroad construction to literacy and public education. For these reasons, many Southerners felt that slavery was all too necessary because their agrarian economy was based around it. The music video shows the final moments in the life of housewife, Evelyn Raines, as she struggles with the advancement of technology within 1969. The film explores themes of loss and isolation as she prepares herself for death. I will analyse the stills relating both to the abstract art form and also images that focus on realism, showing how the piece uses multiple film methods to create and enhance the music video s narrative whilst also discussing the meaning within the imagery and how specific techniques were used to convey a certain message or emotion. Through the imagery, specific focuses will be made relating to the cinematography, the use of colour and the intention of the shot, this will then be expanded into how this is relatable with earlier and modern forms of cinema. It was given in Watkins s book that Keats spent more time reading The Examiner than reading Milton and Shakespeare and due to that reason he was more influenced by Hunt than the library of Cowden Clarke (409). At that time, Keats appeared too much like an essayist, a journalist, a commentator, and not enough like a poet. In this light, Watkins reads the extreme individualism and subjectivity of Keats s poetry as a sign of the bourgeois fragmentation of human life (409). In his longer poem Endymion, he built a journey for liberating individual power as a response to social disintegration. This involved the active denial of the public world and the ensuing sacrifice of history, society, and women for the designs of the private self.
