Human Social Perception Of Social Psychology
Human Social Perception in Empirical Literature
Human social perception is area of study within social psychology that involves the complex
cognitive system that is personal to each individual. Since each person has a unique cognitive
system, interpretation of social situations is unique to each individual. The differences in cognition
and perception between different people allows for varied interpretations, accurate perceptions,
and misperceptions. Social perception is an interesting topic that has been largely researched by a
multitude of social psychologists. The goal of this paper is to provide a brief description of social
psychology, a summary of social perception, some of its forms and uses, misperception, and
accuracy in perception.
Brief Description of Social Psychology
Social psychology is the scientific field that focuses on the individual within society. Due to this
individualistic focus, people are often studied experimentally within or in relation to social
environments. Social psychology studies the effects of social processes and cognitive processes on
the way individuals perceive, influence, and relate to others, in a systematic way, using scientific
methods (Smith Mackie, 2007). Due to the complexity of the human body and mind, social
psychology is a vast field that has been explored by many experts. As social creatures, people
interact constantly within an environment that requires complex cognitive and perceptual
processes. As a result, the

Scarlet Letter Religious Conflict
How is religious conflict at the center of American society? Religion is a vital part of American
society during the Puritan era because the Puritan system of government was a theocracy. The
Puritans of the early colonies in America linked their moral standards with official laws. The
Puritans brought strong religious beliefs to bear in all colonies north of Virginia. Ministers had
great political influence, and civil authorities exercised a large measure of control over church
affairs. (Kang) The Scarlet Letterby Nathaniel Hawthorneis a novel that describes how religious
conflict affects society. In The Scarlet Letter, the book s protagonist, Hester Prynnecommits the sin
of adultery and is publicly punished and shamed by her community.

Internal Controls
Internal Controls XACC 280 Crystal Riley Sanford September 10, 2010 Instructor Glenn Dakin
Internal Controls Internal controls are the measures a company takes to do accomplish two
primary goals; protect their assets from employee theft, robbery and unauthorized use. Internal
controls are also used to increase accuracy of company financial information, reducing the risk of
errors (accidental) and irregularities (intentional) (Weygandt, 2009). Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002
The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) was put into effect because of the corporate scams that
were being committed in that time period. Congress passed the act to force companies to keep

For example, entering data and having limited tasks in an area increase the effectiveness of
internal controls. In other areas, such as cash handling combined with customer service and
other various tasks, those internal controls may not seem as important concerning the register as
it does stock. Comparison of Internal Controls Establishment of responsibility and segregation
of duties are similar in that one person is assigned and responsible for a certain asset. In
establishing responsibility, it is easy to determine who made a mistake and how it was made
because one person was responsible. In segregation of duties, one person is assigned to a certain
task alternately. For example, having one person count the cash in the office and having the other
key it into the system, to ensure numbers are not being changed to make everything appear
balanced. Physical, mechanical and electronic controls are used to safeguard assets and enhance
the security of them (Weygandt, 2009). Examples would be keys only assigned to cash office
personnel, the code on the vault, time clocks and video surveillance. Independent internal
verification is way of double checking the information reported by employees. For example,
managers are not directly associated with the accounting office and they check the daily work
completed by accounting office employees on a weekly or semi weekly basis to ensure that all
reports and numbers

Essay On Birth Control Pills
Birth control pills should be available without a prescription. Oral contraceptive has been a
controversial topic for years. Oral contraceptives are a common form of birth control. Birth control
is used to prevent pregnancy by blocking a male s sperm from fertilizing a female s egg. Women
take birth control to prevent pregnancy. Also, teen women can prevent unwanted pregnancies by
having access to over the counter birth controlpills. Birth control pills should be available without a
prescription.
The first reason birth control pills should be available without a prescription is that other countries
allow women to purchase birth control pills without a prescription. Nations like China, Russia, and

Women do not have to set an appointment with their doctor and having to wait a week or more
for their appointment. But with the over the counter birth control, consumers can go to their local
pharmacy and pick up their birth control pills. When over the counter pills are easier to access,
the more patient will use it. Everybody in America should be able to receive birth control (Laura
Bassett). Some women do not have access to a doctor which makes it harder for them to have
birth control. Having over the counter birth control pill will be easier for people to have.
The final and most important reason birth control pills should be available without a prescription is
because birth control pills prevent unwanted pregnancy. Most women that don t want a baby will
consider the over the counter pill( Grossman, Daniel). Women use birth control pills to prevent
pregnancy. Birth control over the counter pills helps reduce the pregnancy rate in the United States

birth control because they know how effective it is. Most reasons women use birth control is to
prevent unwanted pregnancy. The birth control protects women from unwanted pregnancy. On the
other hand, experts believe that birth control pills should not be available without a prescription
because of the risks and the decrease in

Decline Of Baseball Players
If the Major League baseball season were to end today, the Milwaukee Brewers would finish with
the third worst record in baseball. Come next June, the Brewers would be selecting one of the most
important players in the last ten years. If the brewers hit on their next prospect they could find
themselves back into contention, but if they fail, they could find themselves continuing to need to
rebuild.
Top prospects in baseball are more important than ever in today s game. For the past few years we
have seen a passing of the torch. We have seen players like Chipper Jones, Derek Jeter, and Todd
Helton retire and pass the face of today s game to players such as Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, and
Carlos Correa. These young players are contributing so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The team needs a good mix of power, speed, and contact. They need some solid pitching, a decent
bullpen, and flexibility to be able to add the missing piece. When it comes down to it that is
what baseball teams need to be successful. The Brewers are well on their way. They have a solid
bullpen with the 11th best bullpen era this season. Milwaukee s young pitching is quickly
improving too. The Brewers offense is currently in the exact middle for most offense categories
this season. This means, that the Brewers truly have not been as bad as most people believe, just a
little unlucky. The Brewers have actually scored more runs than the Cardinals with runners in
scoring position and they also have a better average, on base percentage, and home runs than the
Cardinals. So while it seems that the Cardinals are worlds better than the Brewers, it is not the

IPV Consequences
Consequences of IPV include relationship physical injuries, chronic pain, sexual transmitted
disease, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, or death among other health issues. According
to research, over 40 percent of females homicide victims in US are caused by intimate partners

Secondly, early child hood home visitation can be delivered by nurse or professional. The time
when IPV is more prevalent is during pregnancy and after delivery, says Davis (2015). This is
when a woman in an abusive relationship feels most vulnerable and need help. Unfortunately,
the US government offers these programs only to low income families and first time parents.
Ultimately, prevention can be achieved by raising awareness about dating violence in schools,
promoting heathy relationships among children, and respecting boundaries early in life.
Moreover, improving financial security and family support can reduce stress during financial
struggle. Also, supporting family in the absence of employment, low income, and financial
stress, can help narrow gender pay gap. Furthermore, a research conducted by Davis (2015)
supports that additional provision of tax credit, child care services, and other strategies as seen
in Canada will support parental employment and reduce the cost of childbearing and stress
among couples. Also, paid leave policies when a woman is paid for sickness, parental care or
vacation cash assistance for food, shelter, and medical care in times of need can promote healthy
relationships among couples. Paid leave policies changes to provide income to female workers in

Differences in Crime Statistics in the Uniform Crime...
Arguments over crime statistics have been raging ever since governments began counting criminal
activity. In 1930 the United States congress authorized the attorney general of the United States to
survey crime in America. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was chosen to implement the
program. (Schmalleger p.38)
The Uniform Crime Reports is the survey taken by the FBI. This measure of crime in America
depends on reports to the police by victims of crimes. The UCR Program was developed by the
FBI for the purpose of serving law enforcement as a tool for operational and administrative
purposes. Through the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the UCR Program
was developed. Later, the National Sheriffs Association... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arson is an exception to the Hierarchy Rule . One of the problems with the Uniform Crime
Reports is that many citizens do not always make official reports. For example, many women
refuse to report rapes because they do not want to relive the ordeal. Some citizen s feel that the
police will not be able to do anything about a crime committed against them therefore they do not
report it. Another problem with the Uniform Crime Reports is that Victimless crimes are rarely
reported. These are crimes like prostitution, gambling, and drug use. Since many of these crimes are
not reported, then the UCR becomes somewhat vague and incomplete.
When reviewing crime data, it is important for the reader to note the difference between offenses
and arrests. Offenses relate to events and arrests relate to persons. A single offense may involve no
arrestees; may involve one arrestee; or may involve many arrestees. National Crime Victimization
Survey (NCVS) is the Nation s primary source of information on criminal victimization. Twice each
year, data are obtained from a nationally representative sample of roughly 49,000 households
comprising about 100,000 persons on the frequency, characteristics, and consequences of criminal
victimization in the United States. The survey reports the likelihood of victimization by rape,

1. Describe the rise of the American industrial city, and place it in the context of worldwide trends
of urbanization and mass migration (the European diaspora)
Cities grew up and out, with such famed architects as Louis Sullivan working on and perfecting
skyscrapers (first appearing in Chicago in 1885). The city grew from a small compact one that
people could walk through to get around to a huge metropolis that required commuting by
electric trolleys. Electricity, indoor plumbing, and telephones made city life more alluring.
Department stores like Macy s (in New York) and Marshall Field s (in Chicago) provided urban
working class jobs and also attracted urban middle class shoppers. Theodore Dreiser s Sister Carrie

4. Analyze the changes in American religious life in the late nineteenth century, including the
expansion of Catholicism, Orthodoxy, and Judaism, and the growing Protestant division between
liberals and fundamentalists over Darwinism and biblical criticism
In 1859, Charles Darwin published his On the Origin of Species, which set forth the new doctrine
of evolution and attracted the ire and fury of fundamentalists. Modernists took a step from the
fundamentalists and refused to believe that the Bible was completely accurate and factual. They
contended that the Bible was merely a collection of moral stories or guidelines, but not sacred
scripture inspired by God. Colonel Robert G. Ingersoll was one who denounced creationism, as he
had been widely persuaded by the theory of evolution. Others blended creationism and evolution to
invent their own interpretations.

DuBois and Washington over the goals of African American education
During this time period, public education and the idea of tax supported elementary schools and high

Nafta And The American Free Trade Agreement
On January 1st, 1994, Canada, the United States of America, and Mexico had signed a free trade
agreement, under the name the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). This Free Trade
Agreement was created to achieve its goal of eliminating barriers to trade and investment between
Canada, Mexico and the United Statesof America. However, the question that politicians and
economists of our nation are facing is whether Canada should remain in NAFTA with its partners,
United States and Mexico. Despite a multitude of benefits that NAFTA is said to have by our
political elites, 20 years later, it is evident the agreement has been counterproductive; which is
evident by the slow move by Canadian manufacturers to Mexico, significant losses in... Show more

By 1997, three years after the ratification of NAFTA, 47% of Canadian manufacturing plants that
existed in 1988, which accounted for 28% of the jobs in the economy, had closed. To add on,
350,000 manufacturing jobs from 2002 2008, were lost due to industrial plants moving to Mexico.
This drastic drop in factory/plant numbers can be attributed to the fact that companies put their
bottom line first moving facilities to Mexico because Mexican minimum wage is only $5.10
compared to a minimum wage of $11.00 in Ontario. As a further incentive to relocate south,
because of NAFTA, corporations don t have to pay tariffs on products shipped back to domestic
markets. Therefore, it is evident that NAFTA has resulted in many industrial firms/plants moving to
Mexico for cheaper labour, and the impact of such actions has cost thousands of Canadians their
jobs.
By joining this free trade agreement, Canada has been able to increase its trade with the US and
Mexico. Two decades after the implementation of NAFTA, total merchandise trade between
Canada and the US more than doubled at an annualized growth rate of 4.4%. During the same
period, Canada s merchandise exports to Mexico also increased almost seven fold, and its trade
with Mexico equaled $31 billion alone in the year 2012. Furthermore, a study completed by the

Essay Death in Gaza
With Israel receiving three billion dollars in aid annually from the United States of America, the
Israeli Palestinian conflict is an issue that is relevant to life in the U.S. However, to many it is no
more than a distant battle fought in a land few will ever see. The documentary film Death in Gaza
attempts to humanize the conflict through the everyday lives and voices of young children living in
the war stricken area. While the documentary is relatively one sided, showing only the Palestinian
viewpoint, it does serve the purpose of shedding light and interest on an issue that is unimaginable
to those not living in the region, yet is fought and survived by people no different than ourselves.
The documentary begins by showing the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are children who have seen so many friends and relatives lose their lives in the battle for
an independent Palestine that death is an everyday aspect of life. Funerals are as common to
these children as mealtimes in other countries. The streets are lined with pictures of the
deceased, or martyrs as the Palestinians call them. In fact, these deaths are no longer mourned,
but rather celebrated as furthering of the cause, so much so that children look forward to
martyrdom. Many have already written letters to their families in case they are killed, including a
boy, Abdul Sattar, who is only eleven years old. Others quickly join Palestinian insurgent groups
and militias, acting as lookouts and assembling hand grenades when they are not throwing stones
at Israeli tanks and bulldozers. Despite the vivid and brutal scenes of Gaza the film captures, the
documentary delves into a much deeper issue, the mentality of these children. It is surprising to
see that these children can speak with an innocence so characteristic of childhood about things
such as friends and school, but in only seconds can exude developed, adult hatred and abhorrence
towards Israelis. One of the boys, only twelve years old, tells the interviewer that he hates fighting
and wants to be friends with everyone, the way he is with his best friend, except with the Jews.
This mentality is blatantly obvious in a young girl named Ayyah, who is no more than

Essay on Zara Case
Case Questions:
1. How specifically do the distinctive features of Zara s business model affect its operating
economics?
The main concepts that can be taken away from Zara s business model, which directly affect its
operating economics, is low cost, high control, and quick turnaround. Zara is just one of six retail
stores operated by, Inditex, the parent company. Inditex owns Comditel, a subsidiary, which
manages the dyeing, patterning, and finishing of gray fabric and supplied finished fabric to
external as well as in house manufacturers. By owning this company, Zara is able to maintain low

Zara is known for its ability to respond quickly to the demands of the market. The market segment
that Zara is target is not very price sensitive, and therefore it does not compete on price but rather
on fashion trends. The company has positioned itself so that it has the ability to design and have a
finished good within four to five weeks for an entirely new design and two weeks for restocking
/modifying and existing products. To put this concept into perspective, Zara s competitors take
about six months to do the same task. Given Zara s quick response time, they have the luxury of
following fashion rather than gambling on it. The short cycle time reduced working capital
intensity and facilitated continuous manufacture of new merchandise, allow for Zara to commit to
the bulk of its product line for a season much later than its key competitors. 3. How well does Zara

The current structure of Zara will prove to be advantageous as it continues to expand globally. With
the current marketing setup, Zara has always promoted its products by way of their retail space.
There is almost never a large marketing campaign for the new product line, which unlike their
competitors allows Zara to decrease their costs. For every new store that is opened by Zara there is

Should marketers be responsible for the way their products are used by consumers? This is the
main question of this essay, essentially focused on alcohol advertising targeting the young. It is
very important to analyze such a subject to identify the responsibilities of each party and identify
some possible solutions to preserve the health of consumers and keep good image of the corporate.
The following development analyzes the responsibility of the marketers, consumers and

And there are more than 2 million television ads and 20,000 magazine ads for alcoholic products.
This heavy advertising effort leads to significant youth exposure (AAFP, 2012).
According to the same Center, although the alcohol industry maintains that its advertising aims
only to increase market share and not to encourage underage persons to drink, alcohol
advertisements connect consumption of alcohol with attributes particularly important to youth,
such as friendship, prestige, sex appeal and fun, and also by using cartoon and animal characters
with frogs, lizards and dogs, which are overwhelmingly admired by youth. Many statistical and
economic analyses show the relationship between alcohol advertising and consumption (Pan
American Health Organization, 2007).
Given all those analysis, marketers should be responsible of the way youth are using their
products even though some authors don t think so. Because marketers are intentionally targeting
their message to youth. Marketers are quite well informed that their action drives consumers
decision. It is even scientifically justified. Marketers can be compared to a soldier who gives a gun
instead of a toy to his child, regardless of the advices he will make to the child, the danger is
always present. Marketing is a power tool to change people s behavior and trends. It has a
considerable effect on the psychology of individuals. That s why marketers should be careful when
they are promoting

Romanticism s Sublime Style in Rip Van Winkle, Legend of...
Romanticism s Sublime Style in Rip Van Winkle, Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Billy Budd
Sublime refers to an aesthetic value in which the primary factor is the presence or suggestion of
transcendent vastness or greatness, as of power, heroism, extent in space or time (Internet
Encyclopedia). This essay will explore different levels of Romanticism s sublime style in
Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle
, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Herman Melville s Billy
Budd. The essay will particularly focus on how the writers incorporate the spiritual and the terror
aspects of the sublime into their work.

setting that the protagonist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Longinus writes in his Peri Hypsous. For as if instinctively, our soul is uplifted by the true
sublime; it takes a proud flight, and is filled with joy and vaunting, as though it had itself produced
what it has heard (qtd in Weiskel 3).
Friedrich von Schiller, a German poet and philosopher from the 18th century, suggests there is more
to the sublime than a feeling of transcendence. ?The beautiful, says Schiller, is valuable only with
reference to the human being, but the sublime with reference to the pure daemon in man, the
statutes of pure spirit? (qtd. in Weiskel 3). Daemon is translated from the German
languageГ·demon. Schiller is suggesting that the sublime is more than physical beauty. For the
sublime to be meaningful it needs to include the goblins lurking about inside the human.
Like Schiller, Edmund Burke a British philosopher from the 18th century, also suggests the sublime
is more than a transcending feeling; it includes an intense feeling of terror. In his Section VII Of the
Sublime Burke writes:
Whatever is fitted in any sort to excite the ideas of pain, and danger, that is to say, whatever is in
any sort terrible, or is conversant about terrible objects, or operates in a manner analogous to
terror, is a source of the sublime, that is, it is productive of the strongest emotion which the mind is
capable of feeling. (qtd. in Boulton 39)

The Goal Of Education And The Goals Of Public Education
The goals of public education revolve around three main areas that include; the political goals of
schooling, the social goals of schooling, and the economic goals of schooling. These goals were
placed with the idea that all children should receive public education whether you were poor or
rich and schools focused on teaching about political views and the law to avoid conflicts. Schools
were the focus of many hopes for political, social, and economic improvement.
A persistent educational goal of school was to give everyone the same chance to pursue wealth,
which is known as equality of opportunity. Equality of opportunity is the idea that individuals
compete with one another with all participants starting at the same point, which Horace Mann
referred to as the, great balance wheel of society (Spring, 2016, p. 66). Schools provide everyone
with an equal opportunity to pursue an education and wealth; however, I believe there are factors
that alter that equilibrium. Mann believed that equality of opportunity would reduce tensions
between the rich and the poor. It allowed the poor to believe that regardless of their circumstance
their children had an equal chance to compete with children of rich families (Spring, 2016 p. 67).
However, there are factors that will contribute to your opportunity to succeed, but schools give
students the opportunity to all start on the same path that end in different destinations.
The debate about equality of opportunity is centered on three

process of acquiring that status involves exclusion of others, and the attribution of stigma, as
illustrated in Goffman s study. Visible and perceivable stigma leads to spoiled identity, where
people acquire through interactions with others. We become deviant through membership in
different groups as they produce deviance by participating the rituals of inclusion and exclusion. Its

Harvard University has a great reputation for both their academic standings and student s
morality. Their fear for the reputation generated their ignorance and avoidance to these matters.
Around that same year, two recent graduates pled guilty to stealing money from a Harvard based
cancer charity; one prospective student s acceptance was rescinded because she killed her own
mother. These events can all potentially damage the school s great reputation, and they are
reluctant to talk about these issues, as shown in the report. The social elites, those that have high
academic success, defined morality in their own terms, associated with students academic
standings, as Sinedu s application to a certain class was denied because she wasn t good enough,
which was a rejection she did not take well with; groups that are powerless received less help,

Drinking And Driving Case Study
1.Was This Presentation Valuable?
This presentation on the risks of driving while under the influence of cannabis was extremely
informative while also being engaging and interesting at the same time. In my opinion, the
presentation was particularly valuable because drugs have become a very prominent subject
among my age group, and not everyone is knowledgeable of all the risks associated with
smoking. In health, we learn about the effects of drugs and the risks of drinking alcohol and
driving, however, we don t really cover the topic of smoking and driving, which leads people to
think there is nothing at risk. This presentation informs us of the potentially deadly risks of driving
while under the influence of cannabis that many people are unaware of. As well, the information
provided not only informs people who do/might smoke in the future of what they may be putting at
risk, but it also informs people of the risk who then could prevent a friend of potentially making
the poor decision of smoking and driving.
2.Two Interesting Things From The Presentation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One interesting thing is that almost 50% of youth indicated no concerns about smoking and driving.
I found this puzzling because as teens, our school, parents, and the media constantly tell us about
the dangers of drugs and how they impair our thinking. I found it interesting to know that although
most teens know the risks of smoking, they don t have concerns for increasing those risks by
driving, which would put many more people at risk of an accident. Another thing I found
interesting is that almost 1 in 5 youths in vehicle accidents tested positive for cannabis. This shows
how prominent the issue is in our society, especially in youth, and proves that more promotion of
the risks should be done, such as this type of presentation, in order to control the

My Grab Bag Speech
I have never taken a public speaking course before getting into college, finding myself too
stressed to calm down in the class of CC 100 11. I experienced the most anxious moment before I
did my Grab Bag speech. Though I was so nervous, I finally finished it with all my efforts. In
general, I feel that my Grab Bag speech is good enough for me as the first challenge, despite of the
lack of experience in preparation, missing parts of the outline and the overwhelming anxiety.
Therefore, I also give myself some advice and set an aim to achieve.
Before the delivering of the speech, preparation is crucial given that it gives the speaker a clear
clue of what his should talk about, how he can organize his speech and how he can perform well
in front of specific groups of audiences. Once my topic is decided, according to Joshua, I should
further narrow my topic and find the most three points, which are the magic numbers (136) , by
going through the general speech purpose. In this case, my purpose is to inform or teach about
myself, thus I chose anime , horror movie , and spicy food . I started preparing through this
point, yet I failed to consider more about my organization . In my original speech outline, I
simply put these all three things together without considering any order. As it says that you want
to do so in a way that is manageable to you as a speaker and memorable to a listening audience
(Joshua, 135) , speaker should better to create an organized speech for audience. Considering that I
want to emphasize who I am, I should use topical order which tells different characteristics. By
correcting my original speech outline, the spicy food which tells about my identity should go first,
then horror movie goes next, and at last my favorite anime on which I should strongly emphasize
should end the speech.
Additionally, I find out that I should change my use in language for the opening and summary. It s
obvious that often the thesis statement overlaps significantly with the purpose of a speech, but
not always (Joshua, 87). I started my speech thesis by saying So today I am going to show you
three artifacts which are all my favorites and can determine who I am. They are anime, horror
movie and spicy

Sanity And Insanity
Mental illness according to Webster dictionary is any of a broad range of medical conditions that
are marked primarily by sufficient disorganization of personality, mind, or emotions to impair
normal psychological functioning . How do you diagnose mental illness? Well therein lies the
problem. The line between mental illnessand insanityand sanity is very thin. In One Flew Over the
Cuckoo s Nest, Ken Kesey depicts the complex line between insanity in a world that oppresses the
mentally ill through the use of characterization, literary devices, themes and motifs.
When R.P. McMurphy arrived at the ward, the whole floor has an immediate reaction especially
the staff in charge. Kesey utilizes characterization to allow the ward to be perceived as weak in
the eyes of the reader. When the current patients and atmosphere of the ward are compared to
McMurphy s appearance and persona, the ward looks very vulnerable and defenseless.
McMurphy, described as talking loudr n you d think he needed (Kesey 11) and [sounding big]
(Kesey 11), establishes the large presence and effect that McMurphy has and will have on the
ward. In contrast to McMurphy, the ward is described as pee stinkin mattresses (Kesey 9) and
mornings with cold mush (Kesey 9). The two opposing descriptions allows establishment of
authority of McMurphy over the other patients before he even actually meets them. Also in contrast
with McMurphy, the Nurse s description, while still powerful and strong, is more power

What Impression of Inman is created in chapter 1 of Cold Mountain?
Throughout Chapter one Frazier establishes Inman s character in sufficient detail for the reader
to feel involved in his life and get an insight into the way he thinks. This gives the reader a
feeling of superiority as to their knowledge of Inman and his feelings. Inman is based on Frazier s
great uncle. This gives them a better impression of him and a greater feeling of pity for him and his
situation.
He appears to be very sensitive to his surroundings as the environment of the hospital seems to
affect his feelings in a very negative way.
An example of this is where he thinks about how he obtained his wound.
This shows his strength of character both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that he is still affected by it shows the grotesqueness of it and also in some ways shows
the weakness of his mental defences. This is because he can not block out the images and ordeals
that he has endured. He is a very humane and sensitive person. The reader can tell this from Inman s
only thought looking on the enemy was, Go home. This shows that even though he is fighting he
wishes that he could stop and let the enemy get back to their lives. This shows how even those
that war has affected in an extreme way can still have a sense of human decency. Even so he still
has to find someone to blame for any unfortunate event. The reader realises this when Inman asks
the blind man Who put out your pair of eyes. This may have come about because
Inman has witnessed so many unfortunate incidents and tragedies at human hands that he has
forgotten about natural causes. The fact that he feels this way is a direct contrast to the way he
feels towards nature and his humane approach to the way people are treated. This is very tactless
and it also shows that he is a very open minded and accepting person. This is shown by his
meeting with the Cherokee tribe. This gives the reader the impression that Inman is very tolerant of
other cultures as he listens to what Swimmer teaches him and only asks minimal questions. This
also shows that he has a lot of self esteem and although he is very open minded he has strongly

Brave New World Vs The Dispossessed Analysis
Utopia offers us a glance at an alternative world, something that is necessary to protect against
armed conflict, poverty, and hunger all of which are dilemmas in our modern day world.
Although these are just a few of the complications that persist in our world, Brave New World by
Aldous Huxley and The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin give us a look into some utopian

Betrayal In Aesope s Fable
Betrayal can cause a person to crumble. It comes in many different forms and some are more
damaging than others. Friend, country and family betrayal exist in our worlicity of family is
the most damaging form of betrayal because a person spends the entirety of their life with their
family. The betrayal of a friend is destructive because people choose their friends to be part of
their life. In Aesope s Fable The Frog and the Mouse the mouse treated the frog to an elaborate
dinner because they are friends. The frog repays the mouse by tying the mouse s foot to his own
and drowning him in a pond. Before the mouse dies, he states, Even if I m dead and you re still
alive, I will get my revenge! . That is precisely what happens when a raven plucks both the frog
and the dead mouse from the pond and eats them. The destruction of friendship is apparent in
Justin Timberlake s song Cry Me a River . He sings Now there s just no chance for you and me,

Stigma and cultural norms, along with poor diagnosis or medical infrastructure, could be
undermining prevalence rates, masking the amount of children that have autism in developing
countries. (Maguire, 2013)
According to the DSM 5 Autism is define as neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by
impaired social interaction, verbal and non verbal communication, and restricted and repetitive
behavior. Although we have yet to talk about autism in class I did write about it in my previous
assignment. Autism effects the processing of the brain, which tends to delay development and
language. Around cultures autism is widely known.
In the U.S. Children with ASD can grow and can learn, however it s at a different development
rate than other healthy children. Many professionals studying the field of autism can agree that
developing an appropriate community based education and treatment program for an individual
with ASD at an early age is a very important step to ensuring that the child will reach his or her
potential. Not saying that older children or adults cannot learn or develop, it just may take longer
or children may do it quicker.
Autism is considered a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first
three years of a child s life. The result of this neurological disorder affects the functioning of the
brain by slowing the development of language and cognitive processing autism and its associated
behaviors have been estimated to occur

Spaying A Stray Cat Research Paper
Tips For Spaying A Stray Or Feral Cat You Want To Adopt
If you take in a stray or feral cat, you may have difficulty getting the cat to adjust to indoor life. If
you let the cat continue to stay outside most of the time, she may end up having litter after litter of
kittens. Prevent this by having your cat spayed. You can find affordable places to have catsspayed,
so even if you don t intend to keep the cat as an indoor pet, you ll help control the feral cat
population and possibly save your cat from injury and health complications of being in heat and

Train The Cat To Get In A Carrier
You ll need to get the cat in a carrier to take her to a vet s office. You can partially tame the cat by
slowly getting closer and closer at feeding time. If you feed the cat in or near the carrier, you
might be able to lure her inside that way. If not, you may be able to pick her up and put her
inside once she is used to you handling her. Transporting a wild cat in a car won t be fun for you

The Sinking of the Titanic in Dusk to Dawn by Dr. Paul J....
The sinking of the luxurious Titanic was a traffic disaster that could have been avoided. Dr. Paul
J Quinn stated in his book Dusk to Dawn The Titanic had actually been designed to carry forty
eight lifeboats but was rejected because it made the deck look cluttered (11). The sinking could
have been avoided if the Titanic crew had not over estimated its strength, and had listened
carefully to the warnings of numerous other ships, and if the crew managed the rescue efforts into
the lifeboats correctly. The Titanic held 2,200 people, yet it only held enough lifeboats for 1,100
people, which made the rescue efforts were not followed by procedure. The Titanic was originally

There was no consistency in loading the lifeboats because when they put them on the deck they
only put them on one side of the boat. So a mans life depended on which side of the boat he was
on. As the crewmembers loaded people on the rescue boats the women and childrenwere
allowed to go first, but some of the crew jumped on these lifeboats as they were set off. This
tragedy could have been avoided if the crew had not over estimated the largest ship in the world,
built by a work force of 17,000 people. The designers and crew overlooked many details on the
ship knowing that if this ship had ever sunk that they would not be ready for the rescue. The
Titanic was considered unsinkable by just about everyone, including Paul Smith the captain of the
boat. The crew and the builders of this ship had considered no worries about the Titanic, so they
were not fully planned for this destruction (Ballard 11). The radio workers for the Titanic were not
even on twenty four hour surveillance. The workers of the ship thought that they did not need them
there because they thought that nothing could go wrong. There was a #8230;planned preparation

What To Do About Ethnic Cleans Essay
WHAT TO DO ABOUT ETHNIC CLEANSING?
BACKGROUND PAPER
In 1994, unrest swept through the Maryland sized African nation of Rwanda. Thousands of Hutu
extremists launched a massive assault on the Tutsi, who traditionally make up Rwanda s upper
class, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people (Night Rider amp;#8211; most days ;). The
United States immediately responded to this slaughter by turning the other way, denying that a
problem existed until years after the genocide had ceased. In 1999, ethnic cleansing (hostility
between ethnic groups) broke out in Kosovo in a less severe form. This time, instead of being
killed, the Kosovars were driven out of their homes and neighborhoods. This time, United ... Show

This intended military escort function of the international community was averted, because of the
sudden and quite peaceful march homeward of the Rwandans before the coalition had mobilized.
Had the military escort occurred, there would have been potential for escalation of the Rwandan
problem into an international military crisis, should bloodshed of any kind have erupted during the
long march home of the refugees (Whaley). This potential for explosion of what some see as a
nation s domestic concern into military action crossing international lines is what can deadlock the
strategists, sometimes permitting ethnic cleansing to be substantially completed before a resolution
can be endorsed by all nations concerned about the matter.
Although ethnic cleansing has been present throughout history, we are only in the last century
really starting to acknowledge it as an issue that needs to be definitively dealt with on a global
scale. The incident that caused ethnic cleansing to be a major international issue was Adolph Hitler
s extreme ethnic cleansing of the Jewish, which made the rest of the world realize that if
SOMETHING was not done, the problem could spread to engulf the entire world. Especially in

This means taking the fat burners and still putting yourself on a workout schedule.
When you double up a workout with fat burners you get a number of benefits:
Double Impact It makes perfect sense that if you are using two different weight loss and fat burner
techniques that you will see more results. This is the case when it comes to taking fat burners
while working out. You get the positive bodily benefits of building muscle (which burns fat) and
doing cardio (which burns fat) while taking the fat burners (which really burn fat)!
Energy One of the side effects of fat burners like Phen375 is that they can give you a lot of
energy sometimes a surge of it. A lot of people think this can be a negative thing, but that is only

A Brief Summary Of Documentar Documentary Films
Smith was able to narrative a story of a filmmaker as he struggled with his addiction of drugs and
alcohol. He also captured how Borchardt s best friend fixed his alcohol addiction by adopting a
new addiction, gambling. His friend wanted to make money so he could help fund the short films
that were in production. The main subjects seemed as they were actors because they were so
different that it felt almost fake. Smith also showed Borchardt s obsession with creating and
finishing a short horror film. Borchardt consistently talked about how badly he needed to finish
Coven throughout the documentary. He does get the video done because he was also obsessed
with finishing his project in order to get money for his next project. He was so obsessed to get
his film done he asked his dying uncle Bill for money continuously. After his uncle passed away
he left him money in his will so Borchardt could finish Northwestern. Borchardt did everything he
could in order to finish the film. Even though it seemed as if he had a drinking problem he was
still able to complete a product he was happy about. Borchardt is still making short films today
including movies like Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever and Hamlet: A. D. D. but none have been very

Most of the first one reel films could be considered experimental projects because recording an
event was new. Over the years the filmmaker s intention and approach changed as society and taste
changed. Rachman (1997) has done a great deal of research on obsession and stated that they are
unhealthy. He stated, obsessions are caused by catastrophic misinterpretations of the significance of
one s unwanted intrusive thoughts. By deduction, any increase in such interpretations will produce
or increase the obsessions (Rachman, 1997 p.

Counterculture In The 60 s
The hippies, a group of young free spirited, peace loving, drug obsessed individuals, who
changed the way of life in the 60 s. They had a lasting impact on music, lifestyles, love,
relationships and many more. that has carried on into modern society. The counterculture during
the Summer of Love was an American revolution that would change the ways people lived for
generations long after the hippies of the Summer of Love. This group of people believe in living
one s life the way they wanted it to be lived without having to follow the norms of society. Peace,
love, giving, and drug use were some of the their practices they are still remembered for. Although
hippies were seen as a group of unclean and lazy people, the hippies from Haight Ashbury... Show

Large concerts during the Summer of 1967 spread this rock and alternative music across many
places. A new type of music also emerged, it was created to help people dance freely and less
structured and also make acid trips more enjoyable. During the Summer of Love a new type of
music was born, as the article... states... There s just no Summer of Love without music, it was
built around music anywhere you went the was music. [...]It had our messages it had our hearts
and souls in our investment our enjoyment , it was the most important thing. The Summer of
Love was surrounded by these new waves of music that influenced the hippie culture, as it
expressed the hippies emotions and it was a way of representation of themselves and what was
going on. That summer was essentially one big music festival with new types of music that would
later influence hundreds of artists. This music was soft and chill. It also was not completely
structured like music from the 50 s therefore one could freely dance to this type of music. The
music of this time period represented a new lifestyle that was not structured. The most long lasting
legacy of the Summer of Love was the music that defined and established the feel good atmosphere
that influenced many musicians today. The relaxation music was a way of protest for the young
hippies that were living out their values of peace and love even though

Historic Treaties And Its Effects On The Peoples Of This...
INSERT SOMETHING ABOUT SOCIOLOGY PAPER. Historic treaties continue to be relevant in
Canada today because ever since Christopher Columbus arrived to an undiscovered continent, he
managed to employ detrimental consequences to the peoples of this land. The treaty was one of the
colonial processes that would allow for the exploitation of the First Nations. Many Aboriginal
Signatories to treaties understood the treatyagreements as being the foundation of a relationship
with the Crown and that this relationship would be based on co existence versus the crown,
creating them as a surrendering of the land with only small reserve retained, and limited hunting in
those territories. These treaties are important today because they try to go about who has land
claim to a certain area and they show that some treaties were compiled by the British with the
poorer intentions of the Aboriginals. However, the documents and treaties that the British drafted
and passed, would create a paper trail of vast amounts of exploitation. Treaties show prevalence
today because they can demonstrate how convoluted the history of Canada s relationships with the
Aboriginal peoples is. One factor that makes this history perplexing is trying to fathom who has
claim to the lands that people stand on. Moreover, when the government was willing to substantiate
what scheme they wanted to employ in order to solve the issue of cohabitation of the aboriginal
peoples. Historically, in the fur trader era, it was

Social Consequences Of The American Revolution
Over the past century, many scholars and historians debate what the American Revolution changed
for the political and military climate of the British colonies of America. The colonies turned into the
United States of America not just in name, but also in social policy and social practices. Social
consequences of the American Revolutionstarted to fall under the control of people that joined in
the later stages of the war, rather than those who started it. For example, a vast number of
merchants in the colonies supported the revolutionary cause and became part of the Whigs instead
of remaining loyal to the British Empire as loyalists or Tories . The main reason merchants wanted
to move against the British came from the constant trade... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since colonists saw oppression for themselves as a means for change, so too did those who
questioned the validity of slavery as an institution in America. The odd contrast between
freedom from King George of England and freedom from white men as a black slave developed
serious discussion amongst the colonists. During the revolution, about half a million slaves
inhabited the colonies and could not be ignored by the colonists in regards to whether their
rights hold equal value to the rights of any man. Some decided to help alleviate the problem of
slavery by forming groups to address the problem directly. A week before the battle of Lexington,
The Society for the Relief of Free Negroes unlawfully held in Bondage formed in a tavern in
Philadelphia in 1775. Their entire motivation as Christians to free men based on their religious
ideals came to fruition because of liberty and justice being hotly debated topics during that time
period. Because of the revolution, many men gained privileges and statuses thanks to the rise of
colonies as independent states. The social structure of everything in the colonies changed due to the
brave men and women who fought for their rights as independent

Aeneas and Dido
Upon reading the story of Aeneas and Dido, I found myself a little surprised by the way things
ended between them. What I mean by this is although I had the understanding that the relationship
(or lack thereof) between the two of them was going to end badly, for Dido to commit suicide and
pray that Aeneas failed on his journey was a bit of a shock to me. I also found myself wondering
why Aeneas did not seem to understand that Dido was in love with him, or why Venus only
worked her godly powers on Dido and not Aeneas as well. It seems to me that while the gods have
power, it s never enough to ensure their plans go as they planned. I ve viewed Aeneas as this

once I caught up to it I had to maintain a speed of 55 60 miles per hour.

Melting Pot Vs Salad Bowl
Society has a stigma of having to put things into categories in order to have a better understanding
and approach to life. Due to this need to categorize, the concept of the salad bowl and the melting
pot emerged. These theories are approaches of how cultures are represented within a nation. The
United Statesis a nation made up of immigrants. Over generations these immigrants have decided to
either abandon their cultureand assimilate to the American society or wear their heritage with pride
and embrace their values, therefore brings up the infamous debate whether the United States is a
salad bowl or a melting potThe melting pot can be described as a fusion of various religions,
nationalities, and ethnic groups into one distinct people. Also it can describe a society in which
immigrants who have different cultural backgrounds need to adapt to a new culture, and only one
culture can be accepted. Usually the racial and ethnic backgrounds almost disappear. This concept
was coined by an immigrant Israel Zangwill that encourages newcomers to assimilate into the
American culture. The other side of the approach is the salad bowl theory. The salad bowl can be
described as a society where different cultures are brought together (like salad ingredients), but do
not form together into a homogeneous culture. This means each culture keeps its own unique
traditions and rituals and aren t stripped by their differences. No piece of the salad is being thrown
out, but more

  • 4. Internal Controls Internal Controls XACC 280 Crystal Riley Sanford September 10, 2010 Instructor Glenn Dakin Internal Controls Internal controls are the measures a company takes to do accomplish two primary goals; protect their assets from employee theft, robbery and unauthorized use. Internal controls are also used to increase accuracy of company financial information, reducing the risk of errors (accidental) and irregularities (intentional) (Weygandt, 2009). Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) was put into effect because of the corporate scams that were being committed in that time period. Congress passed the act to force companies to keep closer tabs on their internal controls. Under SOX, companies are required... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, entering data and having limited tasks in an area increase the effectiveness of internal controls. In other areas, such as cash handling combined with customer service and other various tasks, those internal controls may not seem as important concerning the register as it does stock. Comparison of Internal Controls Establishment of responsibility and segregation of duties are similar in that one person is assigned and responsible for a certain asset. In establishing responsibility, it is easy to determine who made a mistake and how it was made because one person was responsible. In segregation of duties, one person is assigned to a certain task alternately. For example, having one person count the cash in the office and having the other key it into the system, to ensure numbers are not being changed to make everything appear balanced. Physical, mechanical and electronic controls are used to safeguard assets and enhance the security of them (Weygandt, 2009). Examples would be keys only assigned to cash office personnel, the code on the vault, time clocks and video surveillance. Independent internal verification is way of double checking the information reported by employees. For example, managers are not directly associated with the accounting office and they check the daily work completed by accounting office employees on a weekly or semi weekly basis to ensure that all reports and numbers ... The Brewers offense is currently in the exact middle for most offense categories this season. This means, that the Brewers truly have not been as bad as most people believe, just a little unlucky. In 1930 the United States congress authorized the attorney general of the United States to survey crime in America. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was chosen to implement the program. (Schmalleger p.38) The Uniform Crime Reports is the survey taken by the FBI. This measure of crime in America depends on reports to the police by victims of crimes. Arson is an exception to the Hierarchy Rule . One of the problems with the Uniform Crime Reports is that many citizens do not always make official reports. For example, many women refuse to report rapes because they do not want to relive the ordeal. Some citizen s feel that the police will not be able to do anything about a crime committed against them therefore they do not report it. Another problem with the Uniform Crime Reports is that Victimless crimes are rarely reported. These are crimes like prostitution, gambling, and drug use. Since many of these crimes are not reported, then the UCR becomes somewhat vague and incomplete. When reviewing crime data, it is important for the reader to note the difference between offenses and arrests. Offenses relate to events and arrests relate to persons. A single offense may involve no arrestees; may involve one arrestee; or may involve many arrestees. National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) is the Nation s primary source of information on criminal victimization. Twice each year, data are obtained from a nationally representative sample of roughly 49,000 households comprising about 100,000 persons on the frequency, characteristics, and consequences of criminal victimization in the United States. • 12. Nafta And The American Free Trade Agreement On January 1st, 1994, Canada, the United States of America, and Mexico had signed a free trade agreement, under the name the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). This Free Trade Agreement was created to achieve its goal of eliminating barriers to trade and investment between Canada, Mexico and the United Statesof America. However, the question that politicians and economists of our nation are facing is whether Canada should remain in NAFTA with its partners, United States and Mexico. Despite a multitude of benefits that NAFTA is said to have by our political elites, 20 years later, it is evident the agreement has been counterproductive; which is evident by the slow move by Canadian manufacturers to Mexico, significant losses in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By 1997, three years after the ratification of NAFTA, 47% of Canadian manufacturing plants that existed in 1988, which accounted for 28% of the jobs in the economy, had closed. To add on, 350,000 manufacturing jobs from 2002 2008, were lost due to industrial plants moving to Mexico. This drastic drop in factory/plant numbers can be attributed to the fact that companies put their bottom line first moving facilities to Mexico because Mexican minimum wage is only $5.10 compared to a minimum wage of $11.00 in Ontario. As a further incentive to relocate south, because of NAFTA, corporations don t have to pay tariffs on products shipped back to domestic markets. Therefore, it is evident that NAFTA has resulted in many industrial firms/plants moving to Mexico for cheaper labour, and the impact of such actions has cost thousands of Canadians their jobs. By joining this free trade agreement, Canada has been able to increase its trade with the US and Mexico. Two decades after the implementation of NAFTA, total merchandise trade between Canada and the US more than doubled at an annualized growth rate of 4.4%. During the same period, Canada s merchandise exports to Mexico also increased almost seven fold, and its trade with Mexico equaled $31 billion alone in the year 2012. The documentary film Death in Gaza attempts to humanize the conflict through the everyday lives and voices of young children living in the war stricken area. While the documentary is relatively one sided, showing only the Palestinian viewpoint, it does serve the purpose of shedding light and interest on an issue that is unimaginable to those not living in the region, yet is fought and survived by people no different than ourselves. The documentary begins by showing the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are children who have seen so many friends and relatives lose their lives in the battle for an independent Palestine that death is an everyday aspect of life. Funerals are as common to these children as mealtimes in other countries. The streets are lined with pictures of the deceased, or martyrs as the Palestinians call them. In fact, these deaths are no longer mourned, but rather celebrated as furthering of the cause, so much so that children look forward to martyrdom. Many have already written letters to their families in case they are killed, including a boy, Abdul Sattar, who is only eleven years old. Others quickly join Palestinian insurgent groups and militias, acting as lookouts and assembling hand grenades when they are not throwing stones at Israeli tanks and bulldozers. Despite the vivid and brutal scenes of Gaza the film captures, the documentary delves into a much deeper issue, the mentality of these children. It is surprising to see that these children can speak with an innocence so characteristic of childhood about things such as friends and school, but in only seconds can exude developed, adult hatred and abhorrence towards Israelis. One of the boys, only twelve years old, tells the interviewer that he hates fighting and wants to be friends with everyone, the way he is with his best friend, except with the Jews. This mentality is blatantly obvious in a young girl named Ayyah, who is no more than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main concepts that can be taken away from Zara s business model, which directly affect its operating economics, is low cost, high control, and quick turnaround. Zara is just one of six retail stores operated by, Inditex, the parent company. Inditex owns Comditel, a subsidiary, which manages the dyeing, patterning, and finishing of gray fabric and supplied finished fabric to external as well as in house manufacturers. By owning this company, Zara is able to maintain low cost production while being able to finish fabric in a week. Zara has the ability to obtain its main raw materials as well as the final ... The market segment that Zara is target is not very price sensitive, and therefore it does not compete on price but rather on fashion trends. The company has positioned itself so that it has the ability to design and have a finished good within four to five weeks for an entirely new design and two weeks for restocking /modifying and existing products. To put this concept into perspective, Zara s competitors take about six months to do the same task. Given Zara s quick response time, they have the luxury of following fashion rather than gambling on it. The short cycle time reduced working capital intensity and facilitated continuous manufacture of new merchandise, allow for Zara to commit to the bulk of its product line for a season much later than its key competitors. 3. How well does Zara s advantage travel globally? The current structure of Zara will prove to be advantageous as it continues to expand globally. With the current marketing setup, Zara has always promoted its products by way of their retail space. There is almost never a large marketing campaign for the new product line, which unlike their competitors allows Zara to decrease their costs. The following development analyzes the responsibility of the marketers, consumers and government. That is to say that the responsibilities should be shared between these three parties. This heavy advertising effort leads to significant youth exposure (AAFP, 2012). According to the same Center, although the alcohol industry maintains that its advertising aims only to increase market share and not to encourage underage persons to drink, alcohol advertisements connect consumption of alcohol with attributes particularly important to youth, such as friendship, prestige, sex appeal and fun, and also by using cartoon and animal characters with frogs, lizards and dogs, which are overwhelmingly admired by youth. Many statistical and economic analyses show the relationship between alcohol advertising and consumption (Pan American Health Organization, 2007). Given all those analysis, marketers should be responsible of the way youth are using their products even though some authors don t think so. Because marketers are intentionally targeting their message to youth. Marketers are quite well informed that their action drives consumers decision. It is even scientifically justified. Marketers can be compared to a soldier who gives a gun instead of a toy to his child, regardless of the advices he will make to the child, the danger is always present. Romanticism s Sublime Style in Rip Van Winkle, Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Billy Budd Sublime refers to an aesthetic value in which the primary factor is the presence or suggestion of transcendent vastness or greatness, as of power, heroism, extent in space or time (Internet Encyclopedia). This essay will explore different levels of Romanticism s sublime style in Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle , The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Herman Melville s Billy Budd. Longinus writes in his Peri Hypsous. For as if instinctively, our soul is uplifted by the true sublime; it takes a proud flight, and is filled with joy and vaunting, as though it had itself produced what it has heard (qtd in Weiskel 3). Friedrich von Schiller, a German poet and philosopher from the 18th century, suggests there is more to the sublime than a feeling of transcendence. ?The beautiful, says Schiller, is valuable only with reference to the human being, but the sublime with reference to the pure daemon in man, the statutes of pure spirit? (qtd. in Weiskel 3). Daemon is translated from the German languageГ·demon. Schiller is suggesting that the sublime is more than physical beauty. For the sublime to be meaningful it needs to include the goblins lurking about inside the human. Like Schiller, Edmund Burke a British philosopher from the 18th century, also suggests the sublime is more than a transcending feeling; it includes an intense feeling of terror. In his Section VII Of the Sublime Burke writes: Whatever is fitted in any sort to excite the ideas of pain, and danger, that is to say, whatever is in any sort terrible, or is conversant about terrible objects, or operates in a manner analogous to terror, is a source of the sublime, that is, it is productive of the strongest emotion which the mind is capable of feeling. • 17. The Goal Of Education And The Goals Of Public Education The goals of public education revolve around three main areas that include; the political goals of schooling, the social goals of schooling, and the economic goals of schooling. These goals were placed with the idea that all children should receive public education whether you were poor or rich and schools focused on teaching about political views and the law to avoid conflicts. Schools were the focus of many hopes for political, social, and economic improvement. A persistent educational goal of school was to give everyone the same chance to pursue wealth, which is known as equality of opportunity. Equality of opportunity is the idea that individuals compete with one another with all participants starting at the same point, which Horace Mann referred to as the, great balance wheel of society (Spring, 2016, p. 66). Schools provide everyone with an equal opportunity to pursue an education and wealth; however, I believe there are factors that alter that equilibrium. Mann believed that equality of opportunity would reduce tensions between the rich and the poor. It allowed the poor to believe that regardless of their circumstance their children had an equal chance to compete with children of rich families (Spring, 2016 p. 67). However, there are factors that will contribute to your opportunity to succeed, but schools give students the opportunity to all start on the same path that end in different destinations. It is a process that involves multiple levels of disapproval in the society, which has been proved to be biased against certain groups of people. Deviance isn t just a matter of actions, but our identity. Everyone commits crime, but not all obtain the identity as deviant. The process of acquiring that status involves exclusion of others, and the attribution of stigma, as illustrated in Goffman s study. Visible and perceivable stigma leads to spoiled identity, where people acquire through interactions with others. This presentation on the risks of driving while under the influence of cannabis was extremely informative while also being engaging and interesting at the same time. In my opinion, the presentation was particularly valuable because drugs have become a very prominent subject among my age group, and not everyone is knowledgeable of all the risks associated with smoking. In health, we learn about the effects of drugs and the risks of drinking alcohol and driving, however, we don t really cover the topic of smoking and driving, which leads people to think there is nothing at risk. This presentation informs us of the potentially deadly risks of driving while under the influence of cannabis that many people are unaware of. As well, the information provided not only informs people who do/might smoke in the future of what they may be putting at risk, but it also informs people of the risk who then could prevent a friend of potentially making the poor decision of smoking and driving. 2.Two Interesting Things From The Presentation... Another thing I found interesting is that almost 1 in 5 youths in vehicle accidents tested positive for cannabis. This shows how prominent the issue is in our society, especially in youth, and proves that more promotion of the risks should be done, such as this type of presentation, in order to control the ... I experienced the most anxious moment before I did my Grab Bag speech. Though I was so nervous, I finally finished it with all my efforts. In general, I feel that my Grab Bag speech is good enough for me as the first challenge, despite of the lack of experience in preparation, missing parts of the outline and the overwhelming anxiety. Therefore, I also give myself some advice and set an aim to achieve. Before the delivering of the speech, preparation is crucial given that it gives the speaker a clear clue of what his should talk about, how he can organize his speech and how he can perform well in front of specific groups of audiences. Once my topic is decided, according to Joshua, I should further narrow my topic and find the most three points, which are the magic numbers (136) , by going through the general speech purpose. In this case, my purpose is to inform or teach about myself, thus I chose anime , horror movie , and spicy food . I started preparing through this point, yet I failed to consider more about my organization . In my original speech outline, I simply put these all three things together without considering any order. As it says that you want to do so in a way that is manageable to you as a speaker and memorable to a listening audience (Joshua, 135) , speaker should better to create an organized speech for audience. Considering that I want to emphasize who I am, I should use topical order which tells different characteristics. By correcting my original speech outline, the spicy food which tells about my identity should go first, then horror movie goes next, and at last my favorite anime on which I should strongly emphasize should end the speech. Additionally, I find out that I should change my use in language for the opening and summary. It s obvious that often the thesis statement overlaps significantly with the purpose of a speech, but not always (Joshua, 87). I started my speech thesis by saying So today I am going to show you three artifacts which are all my favorites and can determine who I am. They are anime, horror movie and spicy ... Sanity And Insanity Mental illness according to Webster dictionary is any of a broad range of medical conditions that are marked primarily by sufficient disorganization of personality, mind, or emotions to impair normal psychological functioning . How do you diagnose mental illness? Well therein lies the problem. The line between mental illnessand insanityand sanity is very thin. In One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, Ken Kesey depicts the complex line between insanity in a world that oppresses the mentally ill through the use of characterization, literary devices, themes and motifs. When R.P. McMurphy arrived at the ward, the whole floor has an immediate reaction especially the staff in charge. Kesey utilizes characterization to allow the ward to be perceived as weak in the eyes of the reader. When the current patients and atmosphere of the ward are compared to McMurphy s appearance and persona, the ward looks very vulnerable and defenseless. McMurphy, described as talking loudr n you d think he needed (Kesey 11) and [sounding big] (Kesey 11), establishes the large presence and effect that McMurphy has and will have on the ward. In contrast to McMurphy, the ward is described as pee stinkin mattresses (Kesey 9) and mornings with cold mush (Kesey 9). The reader can tell this from Inman s only thought looking on the enemy was, Go home. This shows that even though he is fighting he wishes that he could stop and let the enemy get back to their lives. This shows how even those that war has affected in an extreme way can still have a sense of human decency. Even so he still has to find someone to blame for any unfortunate event. The reader realises this when Inman asks the blind man Who put out your pair of eyes. This may have come about because Inman has witnessed so many unfortunate incidents and tragedies at human hands that he has forgotten about natural causes. The fact that he feels this way is a direct contrast to the way he feels towards nature and his humane approach to the way people are treated. This is very tactless and it also shows that he is a very open minded and accepting person. This is shown by his meeting with the Cherokee tribe. Historic treaties continue to be relevant in Canada today because ever since Christopher Columbus arrived to an undiscovered continent, he managed to employ detrimental consequences to the peoples of this land. The treaty was one of the colonial processes that would allow for the exploitation of the First Nations. Many Aboriginal Signatories to treaties understood the treatyagreements as being the foundation of a relationship with the Crown and that this relationship would be based on co existence versus the crown, creating them as a surrendering of the land with only small reserve retained, and limited hunting in those territories. These treaties are important today because they try to go about who has land claim to a certain area and they show that some treaties were compiled by the British with the poorer intentions of the Aboriginals. However, the documents and treaties that the British drafted and passed, would create a paper trail of vast amounts of exploitation. Treaties show prevalence today because they can demonstrate how convoluted the history of Canada s relationships with the Aboriginal peoples is. One factor that makes this history perplexing is trying to fathom who has claim to the lands that people stand on. Due to this need to categorize, the concept of the salad bowl and the melting pot emerged. These theories are approaches of how cultures are represented within a nation. The United Statesis a nation made up of immigrants. Over generations these immigrants have decided to either abandon their cultureand assimilate to the American society or wear their heritage with pride and embrace their values, therefore brings up the infamous debate whether the United States is a salad bowl or a melting potThe melting pot can be described as a fusion of various religions, nationalities, and ethnic groups into one distinct people. Also it can describe a society in which immigrants who have different cultural backgrounds need to adapt to a new culture, and only one culture can be accepted. Usually the racial and ethnic backgrounds almost disappear. This concept was coined by an immigrant Israel Zangwill that encourages newcomers to assimilate into the American culture. The other side of the approach is the salad bowl theory.
