Market Research Project
1. Executive summary The purpose of this research report is to find out whether customers are
interested in an online hypermarket. To analyze this, the research is divided in three topics. The first
one discusses the interest from customers to buy online. The second looks at drivers and barriers for
people to buy online. Finally, the third topic investigates the different product categories that
Caddyhome should include in their assortment. To analyze these topics, a market research was
conducted through a face to face questionnaire and the results analyzed through a statistical program
called SPSS. These results can be found in Appendix A. On the basis of these results,
recommendations are given to Caddyhome regarding these topics. ... Show more content on

Sample design For the purpose of our market research, we used a nonprobability sampling. We
focused on people who, at least, sometimes buy online. We used a convenience sample, which means
that we asked people who were available when and where we collected our data. Our sample was
conducted among 100 150 respondents with Dutch, Belgian, French and Spanish nationalities. This
should be enough in order to get some insight of the interest of the customers for the project and
derive some relevant results from it. 5. Research questions, hypothesis and data analysis I. The interest
to buy in an online hypermarket To analyze this topic we have six research questions. After we have
tested the corresponding hypotheses, we give a short recommendation to Caddyhome regarding this
topic. Research question 1 Are customers interested in purchasing in an online hypermarket? H0:
Customers are indifferent to buy in an online hypermarket. (µ=3) Ha: Customers are not indifferent to
buy in an online hypermarket. (µ is not equal to 3) The questionnaire question we addressed for this
research question is question 4. To test this research question we decided to use a one sample t test
(two tailed) with a test value of 3. We decided to use a one sample t test because we only have 1
sample (all the respondents) and our dependent variable has interval data. The test is two sided
because the

The Impact Of Mass Media On Children
Mental health problems have been affecting nearly every society in some way, shape, or form for as
long as we can remember. According to the World Health Organization, approximately one million
people die from suicide every year (Schaefer, 2018, p. 6). Durkheim also noted that the suicide rate in
a society reflects how well the people were integrated in the society (Schaefer, 2018, p. 7). The
problem that I want to focus on revolves around how marketing to children teaches them values, like
material objects and money, that will eventually lead to higher rates of anxiety and depression at an
earlier age. It is known that the mass media strongly influences kids ages 12 to 17, but the age at
which kids gain access to technology is starting to decline (Schaefer, 2018, p. 90). Gradually, we can
see how the media has an overwhelming effect on the youth from the way children think about their
future and their career path to the way that they play. This is directly observed in a nationwide survey
of incoming college freshmen which shows that values having to do with money and power rose from
42 percent in 1966 to 82 percent in 2015 (Schaefer, 2018, p. 63). If corporations constantly promote
the idea that having more things will lead to happiness, then when kids can t have those things they
start to believe that they can t be happy without them. Method In this study, the first variable that will
be measured are the time kids (age five to twelve) spend either watching TV or on

The Social Changes Of Television
1. Which major waves of social change does the report link television to? (short)
The major social changes that are linked to television according to the report A future for public
service television: content and platforms in a digital world written by Des Freedman and et al. (2016)
are as follows; 1950 s Television was one of the main symbols for many reasons. During this decade
the first report of general election was televised, also broadcasted was the funeral of George VI and
the coronation of the Queen. 1960 s It became a very important backdrop during the 60 s whilst there
were struggles going on. 1980 s Television became more than just getting information, it at this point
was featuring TV dramas for people to binge on.
2. What democratic purpose does television have according to the report? (short)
The democratic purpose television has according to this report, is that its an encouragement for
viewers to have a greater understanding and interest in political process. By hosting political debates
and discussion, investigating and analysing public affairs and dramatising the most important UK
political events, it has helped tremendously with the publics decision making.
3. How is regulation of television different from that of print media? (short)
The regulation of television is different from that of print media because television is broader when it
comes to debates, and the expression of differences. It also brings a respect for opposing views

Comparison Of The Inflow Wind Velocity Fluctuations On The...
In this section, LES via vortex method was utilized to investigate the inflow wind velocity fluctuations
on the pressure distribution over the roof surface of TTU full scale building. In total, the results of
three CFD LES cases are presented in this section as follows:
(1) CFD LES at location 7 (TI=25%, TLS=10m);
(2) CFD LES at location 7 (TI=30%, TLS=15m);
(3) CFD LES at location 3 (TI=25%, TLS=10m).
The results of mean and peak pressure distribution over the roof surface for each cases are compared
with full scale field measurements and wind tunnel data within the next sub sections accordingly.

According to the Figure 15 and Figure 16, the results show that the roof peak pressure contours of a
full scale building simulated by the developed CFD LES model 1 at location 7 with input parameters
of TI=25%, and TLS=10m are very similar to the TTU full scale field measurements. This is again
another proof that if an accurate turbulence closure, like LES, and appropriate inlet velocity
fluctuations (for instance using vortex method with tuned input parameters) are implemented in CFD,
the numerical model can be utilized for appropriate estimation of peak and standard deviation of
pressure distributions on low rise buildings within the numerical model. In addition, in all three CFD
LES models, high negative pressure values (suction effects) were observed near the corner and edges
of the windward side of the roof similar to the TTU field data which are the spots on the roof that
separation bubbles start developing in a fluctuating manner. Identifying the extend of these regions
will help to design appropriate mitigation features for surpassing the high suctions at corner and edges
on the roof. Figure 15 (c) and Figure 16 (c) show that reproducing peak pressures in wind tunnel is,
however, a big challenge due to its limitation to correctly reproduce important flow characteristics and
inherent scale issue with

The Decline Of The Slave Trade
The lacking workforce and the profit Europeans knew that they would gain from slaves caused
African slaves to be traded. European empires desperately wanted power, and to gain power, they
needed money. At the time, they thought trading African slaves was the easiest way to gain money and
eventually reach their biggest goal, power. Power was the biggest goal for all empires. As a result, this
began the Atlantic slave trade. The Atlantic slave trade was the biggest deportation in history. Often
called the first system of globalization was the Atlantic slave trade. This well known system is
associated with triangular trade. This was a three leg voyage of trading between three continents. First,
the ships from Western Europe left and transported their goods to Africa. These goods were weapons,
gunpowder, rum, and other manufactured textiles. After arriving in Africa, the goods were traded for
slaves. These slaves included men, women, and children. They were taken from their homes, striped
of their belongings, and chained up. Then, they were ready to be sold. Many tried to escape, but if they
were captured they would be ferociously punished. The most common punishment was whipping.
These victims were severely whipped and in some occasions, killed. On the second leg, the slaves
crossed the Atlantic Ocean under the deck of the ships. These horrific voyages could last anywhere
from a few weeks to a few months. This is commonly called the Middle Passage because it is the
middle leg

Compare And Contrast A Barred Owl And The History Teacher
It s the dead of the night and the shrieking calls of a barred owl break the silence. A young child bolts
upright in bed with fear written across her innocent face. A teacher s class is about to be taught a
lesson on The Ice Age. The parents of the frightened child hush their daughter and say it was just an
inquisitive owl that scared her awake. The teacher pulls on a sweater and says, Cavemen wore these a
lot in The Ice Age. The children in these scenarios are the victims of deceit. Both poems, A Barred
Owl and The History Teacher by Richard Wilbur and Billy Collins show the effects of not exposing
children to the truth early on in life. The parent and teacher mentioned are only concerned about their
children s innocence remaining intact, and they don t take into consideration how sheltering them
from the truth life holds will affect the children s minds. Wilbur and Collins ... Show more content on

When the child was put to bed, the sky was probably not as dark as it was when she was woken by the
owl. Wilbur s words reveal this when the poem begins on a lighter note than the gruesome ending. An
owl has eyes that are much larger than those of the child mentioned. That being said, this barred owl
can clearly see the world and the life around him. The child cannot due to the fact that her parents are
preventing her from such exposure. Innocent minds deserve a healthy dose of reality provided in the
form of truthful explanations from the adults in their lives. The poem, The History Teacher leans
towards a more playful and bright tone than the tone Wilbur used in A Barred Owl. It almost sounds
ironic that Collins titled the poem, The History Teacher because when spoken in a sarcastic tone it
sounds like he s mocking the teacher. He calls him a history teacher sarcastically because the poet
agrees with the fact that this teacher isn t actually teaching history. He s feeding the children

and when acquired firm s employee performed best it directly affect the acquired firm s performance.
Motivation is very necessary in any field when an employee get motivated they perform their duty
with the best of their knowledge and try to work hard. According to different researcher there are

Research finds that the employees realized many difficulties of the modification of work routines,
especially concerning work performance, professional knowledge, and professional role, but
employees recognized the change as an opportunity for the acquisition of knowledge and competence
development. Griffin, (1991) studies the Effects of Work Redesign on Employee Perceptions,
Attitudes, and Behaviors. A Long Term Investigation. The results emerged from this study shows a
pattern that holds clear implications for practicing managers and task design intellectuals. First, the
task redesign hindrance significantly distorted employee perceptions in the expectation and desired
directions. Furthermore, the altered perceptions remained at their new level for the duration of the
study. Second, attitudes including satisfaction and commitment also increased quickly but then
reduced back to their initial levels. Finally, performance did not increase initially, but did increase a lot
by the end of the study period. For empirical researchers, perhaps the most important finding from this
study was the differential pattern of changes across time periods. Researchers need to be more
sensitive to the nature of perceptual, attitudinal, and behavioral variables. The findings reported here
emphasize the need to retain work redesign as a practical tool for enhancing

What Affects How Efficient A Legislature
What affects how efficient a legislature is? The concept of legislative efficiency is defined as the
extent to which legislature exhibits the characteristic of organization and competency and is measured
by comparing the trustworthiness, and political efficacy of a country. Efficiency is a fundamental
element to results in life. Organizations and processes need to optimize their solutions, in comparison
to the problems they are confronted with, so that they can continue to be competitive, and trusted in
the world we observe. Legislatures are no exception to that statement, however, while they strive to be
efficient and effective, they must also look out for the values of their country or communities, and
interest of their people. In this paper I will discuss potential independent variables associated with the
efficiency of legislature, why they could be affecting the efficiency, and examples from news stories
relating to the topic
My dependent variable in this question is the efficiency. I am researching to find an independent
variable that will help me better understand how the efficiency of politics is affected in legislative
systems. The efficiency of legislature may be found on a different path than that of markets, and
companies, but in the end, they all desire an optimized system for passing legislature that citizens
believe in. In most legislature situations, this means winning a majority vote to push forward solutions
or actions to problems they are facing.

Microsoft Case Study Harvard Business School
Bill Gates Believed Microsoft s core source of competitive advantage was the ability to attract,
motivate and retain superior people. In attracting employees Microsoft mainly targeted the stars. Stars
are the core employees that can add value to the organization through their knowledge, skills and
abilities (Boselie, 2010). At Microsoft there has been a hands on mentality made for ambitious people.
Lepak and Snell (2007) built a theory about different employees and its HR strategies. Microsoft has
an internalized and relational focus with its employees. Strategic value of employees is high because
employees are given high autonomy. In general all employees are highly unique. This is why

Therefore Microsoft in the present culture scores low on goal and should increase this in the future.
Procedure
The growth of Microsoft has negatively influenced the freedom of the employees. The introduction of
regulation has increased bureaucracy. Microsoft scores high on checking, documentation,
measurement and rationalization. The desired culture would be to score lower on procedure to
enhance creativity and flexibility.
How does it fit with the strategy and culture?
The strategy of Microsoft is to have a computer on every desk installed with Microsoft. A high
performance culture plays a key role in Microsoft. In this culture excellent performance, knowledge,
commitment, motivation, autonomy, teamwork and loyalty are only a few of the important norms,
values, habits and routines important when desiring and maintaining a high performance culture.
Mutual investment should keep employers and employees happy and help maintain the environment
and culture Microsoft is in.
There are four major culture types within an organization, namely the Clan, Adhocracy, Hierarchy and
the Market (Kim amp; Quinn, 1999). These four cultures are translated into a model, named the
Competing Values Framework. This framework shows the cultures, organized between two
dimensions. The framework shows which culture coincides with which dimension, to show the
effectiveness of the organization and the organizational culture.

Modernist Assault Research Paper
The Modernist Assault The 20th century was a period of exploration, advances, and discovery in a
revolutionary era. As science was evolving, art and architecture were too forming new ideas and
styles. Quantum physics gave way to a new process of thinking. This mentality spread rapidly and
went beyond the realm of physics and into the minds of various types of artists. Art movements that
transpired include Cubism, Futurism, and Fauvism; eventually leading to Nonobjective art.
Architecture modernization also becomes clear in observation of the International Style. First and
foremost, discovery in physics began a domino effect in the modernization of the world. Einstein
concluded that time and space are relative to the position of the observer, challenging Isaac Newton
(Fiero 376). Along with Werner Heisenberg, the two scientists set out to prove that things were not as

The Impact Of Modern Digital Technology
From the way we think, to the way we communicate to the way we shop, modern digital technology
has influenced all aspects of our daily lives. Modern digital technology refers to social media, tablets,
smartphones, and laptops. Unfortunately, the education industry has been slow in adjusting to this
change. It s time for educators to keep up with the new generation by implementing modern digital
technology in the education system, as it will enhance a student s learning, and help develop practical
skills; opposed to the traditional model of education with minimum use of digital technology in
learning.
The Student Perspective
Technology is an easily accessible platform for students to collaborate, and assists in the development
of creativity and innovative ideas. Whether students are working together in class or outside school,
modern technology allows students to share ideas, resources, and work together simultaneously.
Teacher B elaborated most of her students are fond of Google Drive, and it is especially useful for
group projects since students can work simultaneously on a report or a presentation, regardless of their
location. She further explained it has helped improve the quality of work, especially for reports. She
explained that students used to divide the contents of a report in half, then combine their proportions
together once finished. This resulted in an inconsistency of tone, and writing structure. However, in
the recent years she reported that Google has

Analysis Of No Sympathy For The Devil
From Greek mythology to 21st century TV shows, the idea of what a hero is has changed. The
antagonist was always patronized for his wrong doings and mishaps, while the protagonist was always
favored and rooted for during his journey, and the audience was always eager to find out what was
going to happen next. The hero s journey was the traditional, saccharine, and orthodox concept of the
good and humble guy embarking on a new adventure, with an objective that s/he must reach; in
overcoming obstacles on the way, the hero should transform. Surprisingly, that all changed when we,
as the audience, began to empathize with the bad guy during his journey. Those bad guys are not only
in TV shows but are also in reality represented as celebrities. ... Show more content on

However, these bad guys are depicted as protagonists, which is why they are supported. Heather
Havirlesky, author of No Sympathy for the Devil, highlights how TV shows are filled with unethical
protagonist in order to have the audience captivated. The jaw dropping show, The Sopranos, intended
us to perceive a bad guy as a hero. Havirlesky exemplifies, The trick that David Chase pulled off with
The Sopranos was that he made us feel protective, affectionate love for a bad, bad, guy, a guy who
wanted to grow but couldn t, a guy whom at the end of the day, just wanted to day dream about the
good old days and stuff his face with onion ring ( Havirlesky 468). Despite the fact that Tony Soprano
is a violent criminal, television producer, David Chase, was able to make millions identify with a man
who was nothing but flawed. Tony was a character depicted as someone we, the viewers, can see
ourselves in. The idea of a hero today is no longer the average guy attempting to save the world while
overcoming his obstacles. For now, the hero evolved into the antihero who captivates the audience.
The viewers do not want to see the same cliché concept but want to see something that will have them
hanging by their nails until the next episode. Evidently, shows such as The Sopranos have successfully
premiered on television with high ratings

Before setting off on our journey I took my colleague to Parque de Iguanas. This is a very common
tourist attraction because of how up close and personal you can be with iguanas that live in there. The
iguanas can be found relaxing on the stone pathway or the grass, but most are found on the trees.

The Most Dominant And Influential Empires
The Umayyads created the first true Muslim dynasty passing down power strictly within family
boundaries from generation to generation. During their reign lasting from 661 to 750 AD, they built
the early Islamic community up into one of the most dominant and influential empires in the world.
During this time, the Umayyads would create the basis of how the Islamic Empire would be operated
moving forward. They would soon become a dynasty in question because of their lack of descent from
Muhammad, their arguable passage of power from father to son, and their injustice and ill treatment of
non Arab Muslims. Their desecrating rulers overall had a negative impact on Islam and ultimately led
to their fall.

s death to be handed over, but Ali was unable to comply with his demands. This conflict led to the first

Muhammad s widow, and other prominent Muslims at the Battle of the Camel, but then later lost to
Muawiya at the Battle of Siffin in Syria. The civil war ended with no winner, but shortly after Ali was
assassinated by a kharijite in Kufa. Muawiya emerged as the leader after convincing Al Hasan, Ali s
son, to give up his right to the caliphate establishing himself as the first Umayyad caliph. He was
driven to create a strong, effective, and somewhat centralized government. He moved the capital from
Medina to Damascus and gave Christians, in many cases ex Byzantine officials government positions,
which led to some new financial and administrative systems that were unwelcomed by many.
Muawiya was the beginning of a long line of impious rulers who did not give in to what the people of
the province wanted, had his own personal agenda, and really only gave in to the religion of Islam
around the time they assumed a government position.

Educational Preparation For Nursing Education
The modern nursing profession has relied on the evolution of nursing education to shape the
knowledge and ideals of its practitioners. However, nursing education was not always at the level and
quality it is today. It took the hard work of historical nursing leaders to change the course of nursing
education. One of these leaders, May Adelaide Nutting, was instrumental in expanding nursing
education during the turn of the 20th century. Her work inspired new ideologies concerning nursing
education and implemented novel nursing practices, both of which have helped to shape nursing
education today. In the later years of the nineteenth century, hospitals primarily managed nursing
education in the form of training schools. Though described as schools, there was little formal
instruction, and the students served mostly as a cheap labor force (Nutting, 1926; Reverby, 1987).
Mary Adelaide Nutting recognized the need for better educational preparation for nurses in order to
help advance the nursing profession and began implementing changes to the training school model
when she became the superintendent of nurses at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Training School. In this
role, Nutting set out to enhance the training program to provide better educational preparation for the
students. She argued that the current structure served only the hospital s needs, and she emphasized
that nursing was the only profession without true educational preparation for its pupils (Nutting,
1926). Nutting

Creon s Determination In Sophocles Antigone
Antigone is a play by Sophocles which embellishes the rivalry between Creon who stands for the state
values and Antigone who stands for family values, the start at the end of a battle between Polyneices
and Eteocles, brothers of Antigone and Ismene. The two siblings kill each other, and this makes Creon
new king of Thebes. Moreover, Creon gladdens trueness above anything else, and he cannot stand
disloyalty or watch at the state rules being broken mainly by a woman. Contrarily, Antigone cherishes
personal conscience and love for her brother which transcends state laws irrespective of any situation
that befall her. Antigone s incredible brevity makes her deserve our admiration for her resolve and
determination, (Goheen, Robert F page 45). In this essay, I will exemplify some of the reasons as to
why Antigone really ought to have our admiration for her resolve as well as determination. In addition
to this, I will conclude by giving my views based on the entire essay.
Main discussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Antigone bewails Creon s order that anyone who attempts to mourn or bury Polyneices must be stoned
to death. Some argue that Antigone ought to be the chief protagonist. To buttress this point, they argue
that her name is used as the title of the play. However, what they fail to consider is that Sophocles
intentions in the play were to highlight Antigone and her soon to be a deadly clash with Creon hence
the fundamental title, Antigone. Analytically speaking, Creon does to be regarded Tragic hero instead
of Antigone. There is no doubt as to the ultimate nature of the work, that being tragedy. Along the play
s genre comes specific developed prerequisites and Creon is the only character in the play that
substantially fits them all, (Goheen, Robert F page

The Stolen Bacillus by H.G. Wells Essay
The Stolen Bacillus by H.G. Wells
This is a story set in the 19th century people had dress codes which reflected your status in society.
The dress code was formal and quite severe it was almost as if the longer your top hat the higher up
the rank you are in importance in society. In this story we meet a man who wants to help the society
and quality of living whereas the other wants to destroy order as he is what s known as an anarchist.
This is someone who is feels that people should be responsible for there own actions and decisions
meaning they govern their own lives. In the 19th century anarchists were seen as political agitators

The anarchist is very absurd into thinking that by drinking the potion that he would be able to infect
the whole population in the story it says, He went walking down Waterloo Bridge jostling as many
people as possible trying to infect them . The real blow must have come to the anarchist when he
realises that that was the wrong phial. We know that this is true as the scientist says, it is a phial which
turns things blue so that is the only thing he will achieve .
The two characters in the story who are set on big ideas are the
Scientist and the anarchist. The scientist is pompous and idealistic and likes the sound of his own
voice, as he kept on talking about the bacillus. The anarchist is high flown and self important, there is
a bit of self pity and neglect but then again he is pathetic and can t seek attention in any other way.
There is definitely an element of frustration in his life as no one listens to his ideas or what he has to
say this is partly the reason why he wants to cause chaos with the stolen bacillus. We know this as it
says, The world shall hear of him at last. All those people who laughed neglected him and preferred
other people to him will consider him now .
The characters in the story who show reality are the wife of the scientist and the cabbies.

Apple has brought the standard of technology to an all time high, changing the way the world interacts
with each other through their industry leading products. Apple s main focus was to create a user
friendly product, which was demonstrated with the creation of Apple 1. This was Apple s first
computer circuit board and would go on to become the Macintosh computer. Co founders Steve Jobs
and Steve Wozniak created Apple s first circuit board in early March 1976, and then unveiled it in
April while attending the monthly homebrew computer club meeting. This unveiling would be Apple s
gateway to the future. Months later Wozniak wanted to focus on creating an` all in one computer to
use in home or at work. This idea eventually led to the Macintosh computer which is still one of Apple
s number one products. The success of the Macintosh gave Apple its fame and has since created its
own line of mobile phones as well as its own music buying platform ITunes. The First Macintosh all
in one computer was first marketed during the 1984 Super bowl, it included a colorless display,
mouse, and a fancy new casing not yet seen from Apple. As Steve jobs announced the release at Apple
s annual shareholder meeting, hundreds of Apple investors fell in love with the new affordable all in
one costing $2,495. Apple s Mac started flying off shelves. Years later in 1989 after several more
releases of the updated Mac came out; Apple created its first Mac PC. The Macintosh portable, started

I feel I am able to fabricate a meaningful paragraph that uses properly written sentences that will
illustrate my time at SHMS. There are many reasons that I can use to further my case and demonstrate
to you (the reader) that I am qualified for this position at our graduation ceremony. I have had
thorough practice in writing formal or powerful speeches that portray my point to my selected
audience in my own creative way. A perfect example of this would be KYA, where I was a speaker

We are all leaving the nest and flying in different directions. Some of us will move on to a school just

kindergarten. I have created so many memorable moments here that I will never forget. Today, I ask
you to look around you. Who do see before you? I see parents that have worked hard to give us the
opportunity to learn and are now so proud of our growth. I see teachers who have taught us so much
more that just Algebra or English. Then, I see us, the formal leaders of the school. We are known as

Descriptive Concert
Up until this moment, I had never been to a concert from my favorite band. This concert would be one
of the best moments of my life. The concert took place at the Oregon state fairgrounds in Salem,
Oregon. It was during the time when the annual state fair was taking place. The sky was filled with
clouds that only allowed the sun to peek through on occasion. Sweat drips down our faces just by
standing outside in the humid air. Walking into the fairgrounds dirt, and musty smells surrounded the
senses. Looking to the left and right, crowds of people were surrounding barn animals to be able to pet
and feed them. The strong scent of manure settled in our noses and pushed us to walk farther into the
fair at a quickened pace. We walked through an area that resembled a saturday market. Booths were
set up and the people inside them smiled brightly at us with clearly hidden intentions behind their
smiles. Sounds of people chattering amongst themselves floated through the air making it hard to hear
the person standing next to you. As we rushed through the crowd people cut in front of us causing our
group to get split up several times. Looking above us a fairlift was moving people from far ends of the
park. Legs could be seen swing forward and back as they enjoyed staring at the ants below them. We
rushed forward to get to the amphitheater as quickly as we could. When we arrived at the amphitheatre
we are forced to slow to a sluggish pace as people filled the amphitheatre like grains of

The Marijuana Legalization Movement
The marijuana legalization movement is one of the most controversial social movements of the
modern day. Efforts to reform marijuana policy have been organized since the mid 1900s. There are
two major organizations leading the battle for marijuana decriminalization. The National Organization
for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) and the Marijuana Project Policy (MPP) are both
looking to reschedule and eventually legalize marijuana for the use of responsible adults. These two
organizations provide various strategies that, along with additional tactics from other sources, have
strongly influenced the position of the marijuana legalization social movement. The mobilization of

Many celebrities publically advocate for the legalization of marijuana. Artists like Snoop Dogg, Justin
Timberlake, John legend, and Madonna are just a few of the many in the music industry who advocate
for the legalization of marijuana (Schiff 2014). These artists help the movement by maintaining a
culture upon which the use of marijuana is cool . This promotion of marijuana by such celebrated
people creates a sense of collective identity. Historically, one of the most obvious means through
which group identity has been manifested and shared is through language generally, and music
specifically (Danaher Roscigno:26). Athletes like Michael Phelps, Allen Iverson, and Randy Moss
advocate for the use of marijuana. Politicians like former president Bill Clinton, current president
Barack Obama, and senator John McCain have all been very vocal about reforming the current
marijuana policy. All these public influences help influence cultural outcomes that promote positive
images surrounding marijuana. Media coverage of SMOs is key to both substantiating their claims to
represent groups and developing important cultural outcomes (Goodwin Jasper:312). Ultimately,
public support of marijuana decriminalization from such important characters creates communal
support and strengthens NGO campaign support. To assert the media s influence requires specifying
the structural and instrumental ways in which it can shape collective action across a dispersed
population. On the structure end, the introduction of new media may provide opportunities not directly
associate with collective action, but which alter the leverage and/or autonomy of subgroups (Danaher

Irony In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time
Irony Exploration/Reflection Essay I believe that the story Once upon a Time by Nadine Gordimer
shows significant irony. The main type of irony that Gordimer s uses in the story is situational irony.
Situational irony is when the story ends or has a twist that is opposite of what is expected to happen.
Some examples of these ironic elements are that the wall and wire the little boy s parents installed was
to keep him safe, and it ended up being what harmed him the most. The title of the story is also ironic
due to the title being Once upon a Time. As a reader, one would assume that the story will have a
happy ending like tradition children stories. However, the story ends tragically and kills the most
innocent character. Also the little boy is pretending that he is a prince who is brave enough to cross
through the terrible thorns to make it to the castle to kiss the sleeping beauty back to life. This is ironic
because the little boy s actions are contributing to the traditional fairy tales with happy endings, and
him pretending to be a brave prince contributes to his death. The use of irony sends the main idea of
the story to the readers in a more interesting way. When the child dies, the message being conveyed is
a slap in the face. It also makes the story more suspenseful and shocking to the reader as well as sad.
Another story that withholds significant irony is The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence.
Situational irony is also the main type of irony in this story. One of the ironic elements is that Paul s
father and mother are struggling financially and it should be their burden to take care of the family.
Paul is young and is only expected to go to school and do well. Neither mother or father would ever
consider turning to Paul for financial help. Little do they know that Paul turns to gambling and earns
the money his family could never get even though he is a child. Paul gives this to his mother secretly
for her birthday. Paul even checks on her to see if the money would make her happy. Ironically she is
still not satisfied. This is also confirmed by the house s whispers increase saying they need money.
The gambling eventually sneaks up on Paul, and aids to his death. It is ironic that Paul s

Lower Back Pain Essay
Lower back pain is a serious matter. Pain in the lumbar/spine area can be crippling and can impact
your lifestyle. It is something that shouldn t be taken lightly. Lumbar spine pain can be blamed on
many things. Discomfort in the spine, elbows, knees, spinal discs and bones can be traced muscular
problems, disc degeneration, herniation, and lumbar stenosis and osteoarthritis. Contemporary
research shows that three out of four individuals will endure the pain and suffer from lower back pain
during their lifetime. Lower back should not last more than three days. If pain persists, it s wise to
consult a spinal/back practitioner. Lower back issues that linger for more than 90 days is considered
chronic pain.
Muscular Problems
Muscle strain is the main reason for lumbar spine problems. Picking up heavy boxes, constant arm and
leg bending can strain muscles and ligaments causing discomfort and paralyzing pain. Tears and over

Evolution Of Female Leads In Film
The Evolution of Female Leads in Film The role of female lead characters in film has evolved in a
positive way since the beginning of cinema. During the early years of Hollywood female characters
were secondary characters with little importance, with many films not including them at all. However,
over time women leads in film became more complex and have evolved into multidimensional
characters. This evolution started in the 1940 s with films such as The Philadelphia Story, continued
with Aliens in the 1980 s, and has led to the fantastic characters that exist in films such as Gravity in
2014. The Philadelphia Story shows a positive evolution of the role of female lead characters. Tracey

The lead character, Ryan Stone, is a strong and intelligent character. Much like Ellen Ripley, she not
only has great strength, but is also haunted by her past. She explains to Kowalski while they are
floating through space that her daughter was killed in a random accident, and by the tone of her voice
the audience can tell that she is greatly troubled by her loss. The way Gravity progresses the evolution
of female leads in film is through the treatment of Ryan. Not only is her invention the sole reason of
their trip to the space station, but she remains the main focus throughout the entire film. After the
space station is destroyed by the debris, the audience is then placed into Ryan s point of view as she is
sent toppling through space. Later on in the film, after Kowalski detaches himself from her so that at
least one of them will survive, Stone becomes the only character the viewer sees for the remainder of
the film. The leading women in The Philadelphia Story and Aliens have much less screen time than
Ryan. This complete focus on the female lead character allows the audience to completely immerse
themselves into her point of view, which in turn provides the viewer the ability to fully sympathize
and care about her as a character. This combined with Ryan s complexity as a character, ability to
progress the plot and eventually save herself from a horrific catastrophe, makes Gravity film s

Jellyfish Jew Jack Prelutsky Analysis
Jack Prelutsky s poem Jellyfish Stew is fresh, silly, and wacky. The combination of satisfying rhymes
and content make it easily approachable for kids. I was inclined to it because of its peculiarity. The
content matter seemed so random and I thought it would be fun to challenge myself by analyzing such
a silly poem and trying to find depth. I also really enjoyed how much its rhymes were consistent in
every line.
Sounds
A most memorable experience in reading a great variety of poems is the sound the poem makes. As
children, we are drawn to repetitive rhymes and melodies more than content itself. It is nice to hear a
familiar pattern as we evolve and expand our reading skills to more complicated poems. A key feature
of sounds is a poem s rhymes. Repetition of similar sounds is often comforting and Prelutsky does it
very well. In the first stanza, every line but two ends with the same sound; this is for variety: Oh, truly
I do / You re creepy to see / Revolting to chew / You slide down inside / With a hullabaloo . The poem
does not features alliterations, repetitions of initial sounds. Prelutsky makes up for this by including
consonance and assonance sounds instead which are repetitions of consonant sounds and vowel
sounds, respectively. The word you is repeated at the beginning of lines, frequently You re soggy, you
re smelly / You taste like shampoo / You bog down my belly . Within those same lines, the repetition
of the s and b sounds are heard as well. A fun example of an assonance is the following line: With
oodles of goo . Both words are humorous and repeat the silly oo sound. A bit more complicated
feature of sound is a poem s rhythm, a pattern created by beats. It is established by analyzing a poem s
meter. In the first line of the poem, is a trochee: Je/lly/fish/stew but the majority of remaining syllables
in the next few lines are unstressed, making it difficult to analyze the meter overall. Pictures Pictures
in poetry are the images writers create which make us use all of our senses. Excellent pictures can
make your mind travel to new destinations simply by reading. Prelutsky uses wonderful imagery
appealing to sight suggesting how disgusting jellyfish stew is: soggy , oodles of

side of Dillinger became evident, as he created and led a gang called The Dirty Dozen . The worst
criminal act the Dirty Dozen participated in consisted of stealing coal from the nearby railroad . As

Kingston shares about her childhood as a Chinese girl growing up in America, she discusses gender
inequality and conflict due to a generation gap and a difference in cultures. By starting off with a story
that her mother, Brave Orchid, told her about her dead and forgotten aunt, Kingston applies the
techniques suggested in the chapter Beginnings in Technique in Fiction, igniting the readers curiosity

Kingston slips this into the chapter by guessing that her dead aunt s child is female since there is some

novel, such as when Kingston s great uncle takes only the boys out to town, fully aware that the girls
want to come, but leaving them at home hanging [their] coats back up (47). This issue is a global one;
even in modern times, women are seen as inferior to men. In this memoir, gender inequality is one of
the issues that Kingston is attempting to point out to us. Although not all of the readers are Chinese
American, Kingston transcends the cultural barrier to speak to the reader about her experiences with
gender inequality and conflict. In the end of the novel, Kingston references another story Brave
Orchid told her about a poetess named Ts ai Yen. Similarly to how Kingston rises above barriers to
speak to her reader about how certain issues affected her childhood self, Ts ai Yen is able to overcome
a language barrier to make barbarians understand her emotions through a song she sings. In this way,
by integrating gender inequality into the beginning of the novel, Kingston is able to tie the novel

Psychopathy and Crime Essay

psychiatric hospitals. However, NME was sued for fraudulent overbilling in the early 1990 s.
Subsequently, NME pled guilty to the charges and had to sell all of its psychiatric facilities. NME

Regulations Of Capital Investment Products
2. Analyze Regulations in Venture Capital
2.1 In this part, we will put up some typical regulations to analyze whether they are available or
necessary. If possible, we may give some advices to develop these regulations.
BASEL III Requirements and REPO Availability
On Jan 1st, 2014, Basel III regulations show the effectiveness on banks with more than $250B in total
consolidated assets or greater than $10B in foreign exposure. These large banks are important issuers
of repurchase agreements, the capital investment vehicle for the overmuch funds in venture capital
firms. Generally, the US government or a Federal Agency issue or guarantee collateral used in these
transactions, and the agreements reset each day.
In addition, the supply of this high quality collateral has reduced because of the asset purchase plan of
the Federal Reserve. Totally, high quality collateralizes the availability of repo, low risk securities may
diminish over the near term, resulting in a shift towards lower quality, higher risk collateral for longer
terms. We might see the development of alternative interest bearing investment products as a result of
this potential shortfall in repo inventory.
Know Your Customers (KYC) and Anti Money Laundering (AML)
Based on the estimation from the International Monetary Fund, the amount of global money
laundering is approximately 2.1 3.6 trillion a year, accounting for about 3 to 5 percent of global GDP.

Explain How Business And Business Education Was Handled...
ePortfolio Assignment
Throughout this assignments I will discuss how business and business educate was handled during the
formal Regency period. This period took place from 1811 1820. During this period there were many
gender rolls, norms, and values for both men and women to follow. The specific work that I will be
analyzing is Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austin originally wrote this work. A film was then developed in
2005.
The main roll of men during this period was to handle business and earn money to support the family.
The men in the film are always formally dressed and ready to conduct business representing their
social class. Men during this period were well educated to conduct business and a groomed to become
the patriarch of the family, as they got older.
The women during the Regency period had far different rolls then men. In the film you often see the
women dressed trying to impress the male characters using garments such as ribbons and fancy
dresses to make them appealing to men. The norm for women at this time was for the man to support
the female. Therefore the women did not focus on business or earning money. Women s main goal was

She is a strong female matriarch in the film and plays into the female gender norms during the period.
She believes deeply that women are to master the arts to truly please their husband and be a suitable
wife. In this scene Lady Catharine is questioning Elizabeth about her and her fellow sisters. She is
asking her if they are well educated in the arts. Lady Catharine is greatly displeased when Elizabeth
informs her that they are not well educated in the arts. At this point Lady Catharine is judging the
Bennet s social class and sees them unsuitable to please a husband. She is overall bewildered by the
sister s upbringing and does not understand. This scene shows how strong the norms of society are and
how they affects social class during this

Comparing Hobbe s and Locke s Theories on Nature
Two books that I am going to be drawing information from for my paper are Hobbes Leviathan and
Locke s Two Treatises of Government. This essay will be focusing on the differences between Hobbes
and Locke s ideas on the state of nature. One of the biggest, and in my opinion most important points
that makes Hobbes different from Locke is his belief that the state of nature is equal to the state of
war. Thomas Hobbes was an English philosopher, who lived between 1588 and 1679. He witnessed
multiple events throughout his life that later led him to write his book Leviathan, in 1651 once the war
had ended. Hobbes witnessed the English Civil War (1642 1651), the interregnum period of England
starting in 1649, and the hardest of them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Hobbes PAGE NUMBER)
After that Hobbes goes on to say, The life of man is solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short. (Hobbes)
He argues that nothing is unjust in the state of nature. He believes that everyone has the right to do
anything he/she wants because in the state of nature, there is no right or wrong and there is no law;
everyone can do everything and nothing can be unjust. He says that Where there is no common power,
no law; where no law, no injustice. (Hobbes)
So all in all with Hobbes, he believes that all people are equal, therefore no power over the others in
the state can be established. Everyone is the enemy to everyone else, therefore, no on can secure
himself/herself, there is no property, and nothing is unjust. So overall, Hobbes state of nature is very
pessimistic and is not a place to survive.
Locke s idea of the state of nature is that everyone is equal to everyone. He states that, the state of
nature is also the state of equality, wherein all the power and jurisdiction is reciprocal, no one having
more than another.. (Locke) Locke however, does not think that this leads the people to war. He thinks
that the state of nature is NOT equal to the state of war, but there is a chance of it becoming the state
of war. He says that the person who committed the crime against a certain person puts himself in the
state of war with that

  • 2. Market Research Project 1. Executive summary The purpose of this research report is to find out whether customers are interested in an online hypermarket. To analyze this, the research is divided in three topics. The first one discusses the interest from customers to buy online. The second looks at drivers and barriers for people to buy online. Finally, the third topic investigates the different product categories that Caddyhome should include in their assortment. To analyze these topics, a market research was conducted through a face to face questionnaire and the results analyzed through a statistical program called SPSS. These results can be found in Appendix A. On the basis of these results, recommendations are given to Caddyhome regarding these topics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sample design For the purpose of our market research, we used a nonprobability sampling. We focused on people who, at least, sometimes buy online. We used a convenience sample, which means that we asked people who were available when and where we collected our data. Our sample was conducted among 100 150 respondents with Dutch, Belgian, French and Spanish nationalities. This should be enough in order to get some insight of the interest of the customers for the project and derive some relevant results from it. 5. Research questions, hypothesis and data analysis I. The interest to buy in an online hypermarket To analyze this topic we have six research questions. After we have tested the corresponding hypotheses, we give a short recommendation to Caddyhome regarding this topic. Research question 1 Are customers interested in purchasing in an online hypermarket? H0: Customers are indifferent to buy in an online hypermarket. (µ=3) Ha: Customers are not indifferent to buy in an online hypermarket. (µ is not equal to 3) The questionnaire question we addressed for this research question is question 4. To test this research question we decided to use a one sample t test (two tailed) with a test value of 3. We decided to use a one sample t test because we only have 1 sample (all the respondents) and our dependent variable has interval data. The test is two sided because the ... • 3. The Impact Of Mass Media On Children Mental health problems have been affecting nearly every society in some way, shape, or form for as long as we can remember. According to the World Health Organization, approximately one million people die from suicide every year (Schaefer, 2018, p. 6). Durkheim also noted that the suicide rate in a society reflects how well the people were integrated in the society (Schaefer, 2018, p. 7). The problem that I want to focus on revolves around how marketing to children teaches them values, like material objects and money, that will eventually lead to higher rates of anxiety and depression at an earlier age. It is known that the mass media strongly influences kids ages 12 to 17, but the age at which kids gain access to technology is starting to decline (Schaefer, 2018, p. 90). Gradually, we can see how the media has an overwhelming effect on the youth from the way children think about their future and their career path to the way that they play. This is directly observed in a nationwide survey of incoming college freshmen which shows that values having to do with money and power rose from 42 percent in 1966 to 82 percent in 2015 (Schaefer, 2018, p. 63). If corporations constantly promote the idea that having more things will lead to happiness, then when kids can t have those things they start to believe that they can t be happy without them. Method In this study, the first variable that will be measured are the time kids (age five to twelve) spend either watching TV or on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Social Changes Of Television 1. Which major waves of social change does the report link television to? (short) The major social changes that are linked to television according to the report A future for public service television: content and platforms in a digital world written by Des Freedman and et al. (2016) are as follows; 1950 s Television was one of the main symbols for many reasons. During this decade the first report of general election was televised, also broadcasted was the funeral of George VI and the coronation of the Queen. 1960 s It became a very important backdrop during the 60 s whilst there were struggles going on. 1980 s Television became more than just getting information, it at this point was featuring TV dramas for people to binge on. 2. What democratic purpose does television have according to the report? (short) The democratic purpose television has according to this report, is that its an encouragement for viewers to have a greater understanding and interest in political process. By hosting political debates and discussion, investigating and analysing public affairs and dramatising the most important UK political events, it has helped tremendously with the publics decision making. 3. How is regulation of television different from that of print media? In this section, LES via vortex method was utilized to investigate the inflow wind velocity fluctuations on the pressure distribution over the roof surface of TTU full scale building. In total, the results of three CFD LES cases are presented in this section as follows: (1) CFD LES at location 7 (TI=25%, TLS=10m); (2) CFD LES at location 7 (TI=30%, TLS=15m); (3) CFD LES at location 3 (TI=25%, TLS=10m). Comparison of Mean and Peak Pressure Coefficients Figure 13 represents the counters of mean surface pressure coefficients for full scale CFD ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Figure 15 and Figure 16, the results show that the roof peak pressure contours of a full scale building simulated by the developed CFD LES model 1 at location 7 with input parameters of TI=25%, and TLS=10m are very similar to the TTU full scale field measurements. This is again another proof that if an accurate turbulence closure, like LES, and appropriate inlet velocity fluctuations (for instance using vortex method with tuned input parameters) are implemented in CFD, the numerical model can be utilized for appropriate estimation of peak and standard deviation of pressure distributions on low rise buildings within the numerical model. In addition, in all three CFD LES models, high negative pressure values (suction effects) were observed near the corner and edges of the windward side of the roof similar to the TTU field data which are the spots on the roof that separation bubbles start developing in a fluctuating manner. Identifying the extend of these regions will help to design appropriate mitigation features for surpassing the high suctions at corner and edges on the roof. Figure 15 (c) and Figure 16 (c) show that reproducing peak pressures in wind tunnel is, however, a big challenge due to its limitation to correctly reproduce important flow characteristics and inherent scale issue with ... • 6. The Decline Of The Slave Trade The lacking workforce and the profit Europeans knew that they would gain from slaves caused African slaves to be traded. European empires desperately wanted power, and to gain power, they needed money. At the time, they thought trading African slaves was the easiest way to gain money and eventually reach their biggest goal, power. Power was the biggest goal for all empires. As a result, this began the Atlantic slave trade. The Atlantic slave trade was the biggest deportation in history. Often called the first system of globalization was the Atlantic slave trade. This well known system is associated with triangular trade. This was a three leg voyage of trading between three continents. First, the ships from Western Europe left and transported their goods to Africa. These goods were weapons, gunpowder, rum, and other manufactured textiles. After arriving in Africa, the goods were traded for slaves. These slaves included men, women, and children. They were taken from their homes, striped of their belongings, and chained up. Then, they were ready to be sold. Many tried to escape, but if they were captured they would be ferociously punished. The most common punishment was whipping. These victims were severely whipped and in some occasions, killed. On the second leg, the slaves crossed the Atlantic Ocean under the deck of the ships. These horrific voyages could last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. This is commonly called the Middle Passage because it is the middle leg ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Compare And Contrast A Barred Owl And The History Teacher It s the dead of the night and the shrieking calls of a barred owl break the silence. A young child bolts upright in bed with fear written across her innocent face. A teacher s class is about to be taught a lesson on The Ice Age. The parents of the frightened child hush their daughter and say it was just an inquisitive owl that scared her awake. The teacher pulls on a sweater and says, Cavemen wore these a lot in The Ice Age. The children in these scenarios are the victims of deceit. Both poems, A Barred Owl and The History Teacher by Richard Wilbur and Billy Collins show the effects of not exposing children to the truth early on in life. The parent and teacher mentioned are only concerned about their children s innocence remaining intact, and they don t take into consideration how sheltering them from the truth life holds will affect the children s minds. Wilbur and Collins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the child was put to bed, the sky was probably not as dark as it was when she was woken by the owl. Wilbur s words reveal this when the poem begins on a lighter note than the gruesome ending. An owl has eyes that are much larger than those of the child mentioned. That being said, this barred owl can clearly see the world and the life around him. The child cannot due to the fact that her parents are preventing her from such exposure. Innocent minds deserve a healthy dose of reality provided in the form of truthful explanations from the adults in their lives. The poem, The History Teacher leans towards a more playful and bright tone than the tone Wilbur used in A Barred Owl. It almost sounds ironic that Collins titled the poem, The History Teacher because when spoken in a sarcastic tone it sounds like he s mocking the teacher. He calls him a history teacher sarcastically because the poet agrees with the fact that this teacher isn t actually teaching history. He s feeding the children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Griffin, (1991) studies the Effects of Work Redesign on Employee Perceptions, Attitudes, and Behaviors. A Long Term Investigation. The results emerged from this study shows a pattern that holds clear implications for practicing managers and task design intellectuals. First, the task redesign hindrance significantly distorted employee perceptions in the expectation and desired directions. Furthermore, the altered perceptions remained at their new level for the duration of the study. Second, attitudes including satisfaction and commitment also increased quickly but then reduced back to their initial levels. Finally, performance did not increase initially, but did increase a lot by the end of the study period. For empirical researchers, perhaps the most important finding from this study was the differential pattern of changes across time periods. Researchers need to be more sensitive to the nature of perceptual, attitudinal, and behavioral variables. The findings reported here emphasize the need to retain work redesign as a practical tool for enhancing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. What Affects How Efficient A Legislature What affects how efficient a legislature is? The concept of legislative efficiency is defined as the extent to which legislature exhibits the characteristic of organization and competency and is measured by comparing the trustworthiness, and political efficacy of a country. Efficiency is a fundamental element to results in life. Organizations and processes need to optimize their solutions, in comparison to the problems they are confronted with, so that they can continue to be competitive, and trusted in the world we observe. Legislatures are no exception to that statement, however, while they strive to be efficient and effective, they must also look out for the values of their country or communities, and interest of their people. In this paper I will discuss potential independent variables associated with the efficiency of legislature, why they could be affecting the efficiency, and examples from news stories relating to the topic My dependent variable in this question is the efficiency. I am researching to find an independent variable that will help me better understand how the efficiency of politics is affected in legislative systems. The efficiency of legislature may be found on a different path than that of markets, and companies, but in the end, they all desire an optimized system for passing legislature that citizens believe in. In most legislature situations, this means winning a majority vote to push forward solutions or actions to problems they are facing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Modernist Assault Research Paper The Modernist Assault The 20th century was a period of exploration, advances, and discovery in a revolutionary era. As science was evolving, art and architecture were too forming new ideas and styles. Quantum physics gave way to a new process of thinking. This mentality spread rapidly and went beyond the realm of physics and into the minds of various types of artists. Art movements that transpired include Cubism, Futurism, and Fauvism; eventually leading to Nonobjective art. Architecture modernization also becomes clear in observation of the International Style. First and foremost, discovery in physics began a domino effect in the modernization of the world. Einstein concluded that time and space are relative to the position of the observer, challenging Isaac Newton (Fiero 376). • 12. The Impact Of Modern Digital Technology From the way we think, to the way we communicate to the way we shop, modern digital technology has influenced all aspects of our daily lives. Modern digital technology refers to social media, tablets, smartphones, and laptops. Unfortunately, the education industry has been slow in adjusting to this change. It s time for educators to keep up with the new generation by implementing modern digital technology in the education system, as it will enhance a student s learning, and help develop practical skills; opposed to the traditional model of education with minimum use of digital technology in learning. The Student Perspective Technology is an easily accessible platform for students to collaborate, and assists in the development of creativity and innovative ideas. Whether students are working together in class or outside school, modern technology allows students to share ideas, resources, and work together simultaneously. • 13. Analysis Of No Sympathy For The Devil From Greek mythology to 21st century TV shows, the idea of what a hero is has changed. The antagonist was always patronized for his wrong doings and mishaps, while the protagonist was always favored and rooted for during his journey, and the audience was always eager to find out what was going to happen next. The hero s journey was the traditional, saccharine, and orthodox concept of the good and humble guy embarking on a new adventure, with an objective that s/he must reach; in overcoming obstacles on the way, the hero should transform. Surprisingly, that all changed when we, as the audience, began to empathize with the bad guy during his journey. Those bad guys are not only in TV shows but are also in reality represented as celebrities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, these bad guys are depicted as protagonists, which is why they are supported. Heather Havirlesky, author of No Sympathy for the Devil, highlights how TV shows are filled with unethical protagonist in order to have the audience captivated. The jaw dropping show, The Sopranos, intended us to perceive a bad guy as a hero. Havirlesky exemplifies, The trick that David Chase pulled off with The Sopranos was that he made us feel protective, affectionate love for a bad, bad, guy, a guy who wanted to grow but couldn t, a guy whom at the end of the day, just wanted to day dream about the good old days and stuff his face with onion ring ( Havirlesky 468). Despite the fact that Tony Soprano is a violent criminal, television producer, David Chase, was able to make millions identify with a man who was nothing but flawed. Tony was a character depicted as someone we, the viewers, can see ourselves in. The idea of a hero today is no longer the average guy attempting to save the world while overcoming his obstacles. For now, the hero evolved into the antihero who captivates the audience. During their reign lasting from 661 to 750 AD, they built the early Islamic community up into one of the most dominant and influential empires in the world. During this time, the Umayyads would create the basis of how the Islamic Empire would be operated moving forward. They would soon become a dynasty in question because of their lack of descent from Muhammad, their arguable passage of power from father to son, and their injustice and ill treatment of non Arab Muslims. He moved the capital from Medina to Damascus and gave Christians, in many cases ex Byzantine officials government positions, which led to some new financial and administrative systems that were unwelcomed by many. • 16. Educational Preparation For Nursing Education The modern nursing profession has relied on the evolution of nursing education to shape the knowledge and ideals of its practitioners. However, nursing education was not always at the level and quality it is today. It took the hard work of historical nursing leaders to change the course of nursing education. One of these leaders, May Adelaide Nutting, was instrumental in expanding nursing education during the turn of the 20th century. Her work inspired new ideologies concerning nursing education and implemented novel nursing practices, both of which have helped to shape nursing education today. In the later years of the nineteenth century, hospitals primarily managed nursing education in the form of training schools. Though described as schools, there was little formal instruction, and the students served mostly as a cheap labor force (Nutting, 1926; Reverby, 1987). Mary Adelaide Nutting recognized the need for better educational preparation for nurses in order to help advance the nursing profession and began implementing changes to the training school model when she became the superintendent of nurses at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Training School. In this role, Nutting set out to enhance the training program to provide better educational preparation for the students. She argued that the current structure served only the hospital s needs, and she emphasized that nursing was the only profession without true educational preparation for its pupils (Nutting, 1926). Creon s Determination In Sophocles Antigone Antigone is a play by Sophocles which embellishes the rivalry between Creon who stands for the state values and Antigone who stands for family values, the start at the end of a battle between Polyneices and Eteocles, brothers of Antigone and Ismene. The two siblings kill each other, and this makes Creon new king of Thebes. Moreover, Creon gladdens trueness above anything else, and he cannot stand disloyalty or watch at the state rules being broken mainly by a woman. Contrarily, Antigone cherishes personal conscience and love for her brother which transcends state laws irrespective of any situation that befall her. Antigone s incredible brevity makes her deserve our admiration for her resolve and determination, (Goheen, Robert F page 45). Analytically speaking, Creon does to be regarded Tragic hero instead of Antigone. There is no doubt as to the ultimate nature of the work, that being tragedy. The anarchist is very absurd into thinking that by drinking the potion that he would be able to infect the whole population in the story it says, He went walking down Waterloo Bridge jostling as many people as possible trying to infect them . The real blow must have come to the anarchist when he realises that that was the wrong phial. We know that this is true as the scientist says, it is a phial which turns things blue so that is the only thing he will achieve . The two characters in the story who are set on big ideas are the Scientist and the anarchist. The scientist is pompous and idealistic and likes the sound of his own voice, as he kept on talking about the bacillus. The anarchist is high flown and self important, there is a bit of self pity and neglect but then again he is pathetic and can t seek attention in any other way. There is definitely an element of frustration in his life as no one listens to his ideas or what he has to say this is partly the reason why he wants to cause chaos with the stolen bacillus. We know this as it says, The world shall hear of him at last. All those people who laughed neglected him and preferred other people to him will consider him now . Apple s main focus was to create a user friendly product, which was demonstrated with the creation of Apple 1. This was Apple s first computer circuit board and would go on to become the Macintosh computer. Co founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak created Apple s first circuit board in early March 1976, and then unveiled it in April while attending the monthly homebrew computer club meeting. This unveiling would be Apple s gateway to the future. Months later Wozniak wanted to focus on creating an` all in one computer to use in home or at work. This idea eventually led to the Macintosh computer which is still one of Apple s number one products. The success of the Macintosh gave Apple its fame and has since created its own line of mobile phones as well as its own music buying platform ITunes. The concert took place at the Oregon state fairgrounds in Salem, Oregon. It was during the time when the annual state fair was taking place. The sky was filled with clouds that only allowed the sun to peek through on occasion. Sweat drips down our faces just by standing outside in the humid air. Walking into the fairgrounds dirt, and musty smells surrounded the senses. Looking to the left and right, crowds of people were surrounding barn animals to be able to pet and feed them. The strong scent of manure settled in our noses and pushed us to walk farther into the fair at a quickened pace. We walked through an area that resembled a saturday market. Booths were set up and the people inside them smiled brightly at us with clearly hidden intentions behind their smiles. Sounds of people chattering amongst themselves floated through the air making it hard to hear the person standing next to you. As we rushed through the crowd people cut in front of us causing our group to get split up several times. Looking above us a fairlift was moving people from far ends of the park. Many celebrities publically advocate for the legalization of marijuana. Artists like Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake, John legend, and Madonna are just a few of the many in the music industry who advocate for the legalization of marijuana (Schiff 2014). These artists help the movement by maintaining a culture upon which the use of marijuana is cool . This promotion of marijuana by such celebrated people creates a sense of collective identity. Historically, one of the most obvious means through which group identity has been manifested and shared is through language generally, and music specifically (Danaher Roscigno:26). Athletes like Michael Phelps, Allen Iverson, and Randy Moss advocate for the use of marijuana. Politicians like former president Bill Clinton, current president Barack Obama, and senator John McCain have all been very vocal about reforming the current marijuana policy. All these public influences help influence cultural outcomes that promote positive images surrounding marijuana. Media coverage of SMOs is key to both substantiating their claims to represent groups and developing important cultural outcomes (Goodwin Jasper:312). Ultimately, public support of marijuana decriminalization from such important characters creates communal support and strengthens NGO campaign support. To assert the media s influence requires specifying the structural and instrumental ways in which it can shape collective action across a dispersed population. On the structure end, the introduction of new media may provide opportunities not directly associate with collective action, but which alter the leverage and/or autonomy of subgroups (Danaher ... • 24. Irony In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time Irony Exploration/Reflection Essay I believe that the story Once upon a Time by Nadine Gordimer shows significant irony. The main type of irony that Gordimer s uses in the story is situational irony. Situational irony is when the story ends or has a twist that is opposite of what is expected to happen. Some examples of these ironic elements are that the wall and wire the little boy s parents installed was to keep him safe, and it ended up being what harmed him the most. The title of the story is also ironic due to the title being Once upon a Time. As a reader, one would assume that the story will have a happy ending like tradition children stories. However, the story ends tragically and kills the most innocent character. Also the little boy is pretending that he is a prince who is brave enough to cross through the terrible thorns to make it to the castle to kiss the sleeping beauty back to life. This is ironic because the little boy s actions are contributing to the traditional fairy tales with happy endings, and him pretending to be a brave prince contributes to his death. The use of irony sends the main idea of the story to the readers in a more interesting way. When the child dies, the message being conveyed is a slap in the face. It also makes the story more suspenseful and shocking to the reader as well as sad. Another story that withholds significant irony is The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence. Situational irony is also the main type of irony in this story. One of the ironic elements is that Paul s father and mother are struggling financially and it should be their burden to take care of the family. Paul is young and is only expected to go to school and do well. Neither mother or father would ever consider turning to Paul for financial help. Little do they know that Paul turns to gambling and earns the money his family could never get even though he is a child. Paul gives this to his mother secretly for her birthday. Paul even checks on her to see if the money would make her happy. Ironically she is still not satisfied. This is also confirmed by the house s whispers increase saying they need money. The gambling eventually sneaks up on Paul, and aids to his death. It is ironic that Paul s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the early years of Hollywood female characters were secondary characters with little importance, with many films not including them at all. However, over time women leads in film became more complex and have evolved into multidimensional characters. This evolution started in the 1940 s with films such as The Philadelphia Story, continued with Aliens in the 1980 s, and has led to the fantastic characters that exist in films such as Gravity in 2014. The way Gravity progresses the evolution of female leads in film is through the treatment of Ryan. After the space station is destroyed by the debris, the audience is then placed into Ryan s point of view as she is sent toppling through space. The leading women in The Philadelphia Story and Aliens have much less screen time than Ryan. This complete focus on the female lead character allows the audience to completely immerse themselves into her point of view, which in turn provides the viewer the ability to fully sympathize and care about her as a character. • 30. Jellyfish Jew Jack Prelutsky Analysis Jack Prelutsky s poem Jellyfish Stew is fresh, silly, and wacky. The combination of satisfying rhymes and content make it easily approachable for kids. I was inclined to it because of its peculiarity. The content matter seemed so random and I thought it would be fun to challenge myself by analyzing such a silly poem and trying to find depth. I also really enjoyed how much its rhymes were consistent in every line. Sounds A most memorable experience in reading a great variety of poems is the sound the poem makes. As children, we are drawn to repetitive rhymes and melodies more than content itself. It is nice to hear a familiar pattern as we evolve and expand our reading skills to more complicated poems. A key feature of sounds is a poem s rhymes. Repetition of similar sounds is often comforting and Prelutsky does it very well. In the first stanza, every line but two ends with the same sound; this is for variety: Oh, truly I do / You re creepy to see / Revolting to chew / You slide down inside / With a hullabaloo . The poem does not features alliterations, repetitions of initial sounds. Prelutsky makes up for this by including consonance and assonance sounds instead which are repetitions of consonant sounds and vowel sounds, respectively. The word you is repeated at the beginning of lines, frequently You re soggy, you re smelly / You taste like shampoo / You bog down my belly . Within those same lines, the repetition of the s and b sounds are heard as well. A fun example of an assonance is the following line: With oodles of goo . Both words are humorous and repeat the silly oo sound. A bit more complicated feature of sound is a poem s rhythm, a pattern created by beats. It is established by analyzing a poem s meter. In the first line of the poem, is a trochee: Je/lly/fish/stew but the majority of remaining syllables in the next few lines are unstressed, making it difficult to analyze the meter overall. Explain How Business And Business Education Was Handled... ePortfolio Assignment Throughout this assignments I will discuss how business and business educate was handled during the formal Regency period. This period took place from 1811 1820. During this period there were many gender rolls, norms, and values for both men and women to follow. The specific work that I will be analyzing is Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austin originally wrote this work. A film was then developed in 2005. The main roll of men during this period was to handle business and earn money to support the family. The men in the film are always formally dressed and ready to conduct business representing their social class. Men during this period were well educated to conduct business and a groomed to become the patriarch of the family, as they got older. The women during the Regency period had far different rolls then men. In the film you often see the women dressed trying to impress the male characters using garments such as ribbons and fancy dresses to make them appealing to men. The norm for women at this time was for the man to support the female. Therefore the women did not focus on business or earning money. Women s main goal was to ... • 43. Comparing Hobbe s and Locke s Theories on Nature Two books that I am going to be drawing information from for my paper are Hobbes Leviathan and Locke s Two Treatises of Government. This essay will be focusing on the differences between Hobbes and Locke s ideas on the state of nature. One of the biggest, and in my opinion most important points that makes Hobbes different from Locke is his belief that the state of nature is equal to the state of war. Thomas Hobbes was an English philosopher, who lived between 1588 and 1679. He witnessed multiple events throughout his life that later led him to write his book Leviathan, in 1651 once the war had ended. Hobbes witnessed the English Civil War (1642 1651), the interregnum period of England starting in 1649, and the hardest of them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Hobbes PAGE NUMBER) After that Hobbes goes on to say, The life of man is solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short. (Hobbes) He argues that nothing is unjust in the state of nature. He believes that everyone has the right to do anything he/she wants because in the state of nature, there is no right or wrong and there is no law; everyone can do everything and nothing can be unjust. He says that Where there is no common power, no law; where no law, no injustice. (Hobbes) So all in all with Hobbes, he believes that all people are equal, therefore no power over the others in the state can be established. Everyone is the enemy to everyone else, therefore, no on can secure himself/herself, there is no property, and nothing is unjust. So overall, Hobbes state of nature is very pessimistic and is not a place to survive. Locke s idea of the state of nature is that everyone is equal to everyone. He states that, the state of nature is also the state of equality, wherein all the power and jurisdiction is reciprocal, no one having more than another.. (Locke) Locke however, does not think that this leads the people to war. He thinks that the state of nature is NOT equal to the state of war, but there is a chance of it becoming the state of war. He says that the person who committed the crime against a certain person puts himself in the state of war with that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
