The Xbox One is a gaming console made by Microsoft, Inc. It is in the middle of its product life, 2
years old at the time of this paper. The success of the original Xbox, and Xbox 360 provided a
platform for Xbox one to succeed and capture market share for competition Sony PS3 and Nintendo.
Xbox one has become a bestselling gaming console with millions of units sold around the world.

The paper is concluded with a brief summary, potential contribution and limitations of the same.
REVIEW OF LITERATURE Forecasting literature is replete with a number of studies ranging from
simple time series forecasting models to econometric models as also the forecasting models
employing artificial intelligence techniques etc. Researchers have employed the forecasting models
with a view to finding out the forecasted demand of traffic for a particular period. However, the study
findings reveal that there does not exist a single model which consistently outperforms other models in
all situations. Quantitative forecasting methods can be categorized under three broad heads: (1) time
series modeling, (2) econometric models and (3) other quantitative models (Song and Li, 2008). Under
time series models, several techniques are available, e.g. Moving Average, Exponential Smoothing,
Holt s Model, Winter s Model, ARIMA etc. (Makridakis et al, 2003). In time series model, particular
attention is paid to exploring the historic trends and patterns of the time series involved and to predict
the future of this series based on trends and patterns identified in the model. Since time series models
require only historical observations of a variable, it is less costly in data collection and model
estimation. However, these models cannot account for the changes in demand that might occur in
different periods. The major advantages of econometric models over

The French American Alliance And Connection Is One That
The French American alliance and connection is one that has existed since the founding of the United
States of America. The French lent their support to the American Patriots in the form of supplies and
weapons until they gained full independence from Great Britain. There were even many French
notables directly involved within the Revolutionary War such as Lafayette and Pierre Charles L Enfant
who legitimized the idea of the revolution in Europe(1). The French also gained a lot from their
alliance, as they not only took inspiration from the American Revolution and Constitution, and
completely restructured their government and society shortly afterwards. Both countries wanted more

In other words, it is the way that votes are translated into seats in parliament or other areas of
government such as presidency (3). It is from here, where the differences in political systems between
the United States and France begin to form. In the history of the 20th century there are basically three
types of established democratic regimes; presidential, parliamentary and a mix of both. Though France
is semi presidential and America only presidential, they both work best for their respective socio
political contexts.
Historically, France has had a much harder and rockier road to established democracy than America.
France s government has been through many phases characterized as the Five Republics. The
constitution of the Fifth Republic (which is in place today) was drawn up several weeks after Gen.
Charles de Gaulle was invested as the last prime minister of the Fourth Republic. The new
constitution, which was adopted by an 80 percent vote in a popular referendum held in September
1958, was tailor made for de Gaulle. It contained much of what the past four republics had such as
both a president and prime minister, as well as a bicameral legislature in the form of the National
Assembly and the Senate(4). It is important to note here that France has both a president and a prime
minister thus making the Head of Government and Chief of Staff two separate roles, respectively. This
is what makes France a semi presidential system

Canadian Constitution Act of 1982
I found myself thinking sociologically when I realized that equality in Canada is less practiced as what
the Canadian Constitution Act of 1982 claims. In this constitution, it is stated that every individual
should be treated equally regardless of their race, ethnicity, colour, religion, sex, age, and any
disability; however, in reality, individuals experience inequality in the form of racism throughout the
Canadian society. For instance, a few months ago, a black male was asked to leave the St. Laurent
shopping centre by the mall securities as the position of his pants were viewed as not family friendly
but this type of fashion is normal for teenagers who are influenced by the hip hop culture. As the man
did not want to cause any trouble, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, in 1940s, Canadian born, black students were not admitted in Canadian nursing schools
because of the idea that Canadian hospitals would not hire them. Thus, the author concludes that
Black nurses face racism today because of the historical exclusion and segmentation in the labour
market.
The authors, Gillian Creese and Tania Das Gupta, both demonstrate that equality is less pronounced
than the Canadian Constitution Act of 1982 states. Although these two articles were written on
different time periods in history, both articles display racism in the Canadian society, specifically at a
workplace. Creese focuses on the experiences of Chinese workers whereas Gupta investigates the
experiences of Black nurses. However, Creese s description of racism is more extreme than Gupta s,
which could indicate that there has been an improvement in equality in Canada. Regardless, these
articles prove that there is a difference between the promise made by the constitution and reality.
Canada is known as a multicultural nation and is praise internationally for its immigration policy.
However, there has been an issue of racial profiling in the criminal justice system. The article The
Usual Suspects: Police Stop and Search Practices in Canada by Scot Wortley and Akwasi Owusu
Bempah, explores the existence of racial profiling. The authors argue that racial discrimination has
existed throughout the Canadian society,

Rudyard Kipling s The Man Who Would Be King Essay
Rudyard Kipling s The Man who Would Be King deals with man s ability to rule. The character
Dravot s success and failure in ruling derives from the perception of him as a god, instead of a king.
Kipling uses the perception of Dravot as a god to show that though a king can rule as a god, he
becomes a king by being human.
Dravot gains kingly power by being perceived as a god. The perception of him as a god occurs
through his actions and luck. After helping the first village Peachy and he find in Kafiristan, Dravot
takes power from the former leaders. He becomes more than a leader to the people, however, as every
morning Dravot sat by the side of old Imbra, and the people came and worshipped. That was Dravot s
order (92). By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has the symbol for Grand Master sewn onto an apron that he wears in front of a priest, and the old
chap falls flat on his face at Dravot s feet and kisses em. Luck again, says Dravot, they say it s the
missing Mark that no one could understand the why of (95). The displaying of the mark proves Dravot
as a god, since only the Gods know that (99). Dravot establishes his kingdom by ruling as a god, not a
king.
Dravot s perception as a god leads to his downfall by conflicting with his kingly aspirations. He
intends to establish a dynasty, and he needs a Queen to breed a King s son for the King (98). Dravot
plans to chose a woman from amongst his tribes; alas, his people are skeptical of this, for How can
daughters of men marry Gods or Devils? (99). Dravot s god appearance directly conflicts with his
aspiration for a dynasty; he cannot find a wife who will want him as a god, yet he needs a woman to
bear his children. He ignores all warnings and proceeds to find and marry his queen. The downfall of
Dravot occurs on his wedding day, as his bride bites him The slut s bitten me! says he, clapping his
hand to his neck, and sure enough, his hand was red with blood (100). The sight of blood awakens the
natives to Dravot s mortality. Shrieks of Not a God, not a Devil, but only a man! (100) proclaim in the
valley. The natives turn on Dravot, outraged at having thought him a god.
Dravot s acceptance of death defines him as a king. He

The Korean War And The War
The United States has fought in many wars throughout the years. The Korean War took place from
1950 1953. It has also been called the forgotten war, as people do not recognize it like the Second
World War, the Vietnam War or the Gulf War. This battle consisted of North Korea, South Korea and
the United States. It was fought on sea, land and air. The Korean War was a clash between the
Communist forces and the free world. Additionally, the Korean War Veterans Memorial is located near
the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. (Nurses in the Korean War). This
memorial commemorates the sacrifices of the Americans who served in the armed services during this
time. It was dedicated on July 27, 1995. This monument is unique ... Show more content on

My grandfather lived outside in a foxhole for two years. He stated that the winters were extremely
cold. Many soldiers were killed or severely injured. There was a lack of food and cold weather gear.
Consequently, the draft was enacted when the Korean War began. The response fell short. It was
during this time that women were asked to serve their country in time of need. The Army Nurse Corps
responded to the call. The Army Nurse Corps is an organization that provides health care for military
personnel, their families and also retirees. One of these brave nurses was named Anna Mae Hays. She
served in a hospital unit during World War II. Once the war broke out in Korea, she organized the 4th
Field Hospital in 1950 and participated in the Inchon Landing. This hospital unit cared for more than
25,000 patients during the next ten months, one night receiving 700 wounded men. On June 11, 1970
she became the first woman in military history to attain general officer rank. On March 12, 2013 she
was inducted into the U.S. Army Women s Foundation Hall of Fame (Nurses in the Korean War).
Anna May Hays along with all the other nurses who enlisted put the well being of the wounded above

Pant Clothing In The 1970 s
The 1970s was full of movement and change, and the fashion trends of that time reflected that. The
clothes were bold and diverse as people wore clothes they preferred over what was the social norm of
the gender, race, or any other category. Women started wearing more masculine clothes, men
experimented with different suits and many unisex outfits and new styles emerged and became
popular in this decade. Therefore, due to the attitude of the seventies being about individualism, the
decade was titled as the Me decade. Firstly, as stated previously, women started wearing more
masculine clothes, including pant suits. Pant suits helped women make a statement to society by being
worn by both genders and as a symbol for feminism, stating females could be just as powerful and

One included jeans, especially jeans with flared bottom. However, they gradually shrunk through the
decade until the flare disappeared. Denim skirts and vests were also trendy clothes along with the
jeans. Two styles that became popular in the 1970s were the hippie style and the punk rock style. The
hippie style was made popular due to many famous singers, bands, and other entertainers, such as The
Beatles, wearing hippie styled outfits, matching loose fitting shirts with vivid patterns and pairing
them with clothes from many cultures. Men and women both wore this style and pushed what was
normal for society at the time by having long hair as men and women wearing a large height variety in
hemlines. The second style, the punk rock style, began in the United Kingdom and spread its influence
into the American culture. It was popular mainly to the youth and purposely defied the social norm
and drew a line between the youth and the older generations. Their style consisted of leather jackets,
ripped clothes, colorful hair, and many other accessories and aspects and was also

The And Its Effect On The Nanoscale
Introduction
Nanotechnology is the study of particles on the nanoscale with, at least one dimension being less than
100nm. (Chen, Schluesener, 2008) Nanoscale particles can come in many shapes and sizes, ranging
from 100 1 nm. These particles can be found as rods, cones, spheres and many more complex matrices
and patterns as seen in figure 1.(Champion, Katare, Mitragotri, 2007) Nanosilver will form a roughly
spherical shape as can be seen in figure 2. (Utopia Silver Supplements, 2012)
In the medical industry there is high demand for antibacterial and antiseptic products, especially in
hospitals and other medical institutes. Antibacterial products fall into two categories, residue
producing, that provide a long lasting antibacterial action like triclosan, and non residue producing
which are generally fast acting and can rapidly kill bacteria and disappear quickly leaving no residues,
like alcohols. (APUA, 2014) But these are costly, time absorbing and inefficient to produce. (how
products are made, 2016) There is also the very real threat of superbugs.(antibacterial resistant
microbes) Silver Nanoparticles could produce a quick and cheap antimicrobial that conserves
resources.
Silver is the 47th element of the periodic table and has been known since greek times to have a healing
and antibacterial effect. More recently, silver has been used in world war 1 to prevent infections from
wounds. (Chen. et al, 2008) Now, because of nanotechnology people have created colloidal

The And Its Effects On The Food Industry
While FM provide a more practical aspect to MG, barriers to the use of MG are mainly due to its
various perceptions and the question of whether it would be enough to constitute a real paradigm shift.
According to This (2013), the way food is prepared has gone through very slow and minor changes,
relative to other fields. While more energy efficient stoves have been manufactured, the stove is a
ubiquitous appliance in the kitchen despite the fact that most of the heat produced is wasted to the
surroundings instead of applied directly to the pan and food. There are several reasons for the
relatively slow growth of the food industry. From an anthropological viewpoint, humans are naturally

Parallel to the rise of processed foods, the interest of a minority group of critical consumers... has been
rapidly growing, and leading various food movements (Vega Ubbink, 2008). As a result of the
negative consequences of the industrial food system, consumers are starting to push back in favor of
healthier foods. Economically, companies must also change how they produce food to keep up. Recent
food evolution[s] encompasse[d] both the use of ingredients and devices found within the context of
mass food production (Vega Ubbink, 2008). As a result, MG was hailed as a turning point in the

John Cousins, the director of The Food and Beverage Training Company in London, teamed up with
two other experts in hospitality management and interviewed many acclaimed chefs to gauge their
perception of MG. While all interviewees understood and embraced the original and straight forward
intentions of Herve This, most agreed that the significant media coverage had sensationalized MG to a
point where it could not redeemed (Cousins et al., 2010). Many chefs also did not see the value in
MG; they argued that it was no different than food science and that they were already doing the
research in their own kitchens. Commonly mistaken as a style of cooking, MG became a fad,

History Of Ancient Assyrian Tomb With 10 Skeletons...
We are not makers of history. We are made by history. said Martin Luther King Jr. Everyday history is
happening all around us whether we are aware of it or not. History shapes the essence of humanity,
and this is why it is important to understand what has happened in the course of history. In this essay, I
will be discussing significant historical happenings from around the world that have occurred recently.
My first event is from an article entitled, Ancient Assyrian Tomb with 10 Skeletons Discovered in
Iraq. written by Owen Jarus. This is about the accidental discovery of a tomb that held 10 skeletons,
and it was located in Erbil, Iraq. These skeletons are believed to be from the Assyrian Empire. This
tomb was built to house the wealthy upper class. More importantly, the article discusses the
importance of this city during the Assyrian time period. This city, formerly known as Arbela, was
located in a fertile area and it also was home to the most popular temple of Ishtar the Assyrian war
goddess. The discovery of these skeletons helps historians study the culture and understand it more. I

matter because it is how humanity learns from its mistakes and does not make them again. To put it

Islamic Organizations Post World War II
As we get farther into the book, I become more intrigued into the events that took place in America in
regards to Islam. I never actually knew the broader history behind the enlargement of Islam in the
United States. The formation of different Islamic organizations post World War II was very interesting,
because it created a society where Muslim immigrants can unite; such as the Nation of Islam and the
FIA. I found that the sociological, and political aspects of these religion based communities and
organizations were very relevant to the issues that many Muslims had to deal with. However, some of
the organization s teachings and actions seemed questionable. Also, the book is very difficult to
understand as it gets very in depth with fact after fact but not much background information, which
makes it hard to follow the points that author, Kambiz GhaneaBassiri is trying to get across. That
being said, I would like to focus on the chapter 6 readings, and the author s style of writing. To begin
with, throughout the book, A History of Islam in America, the author has a specific style of writing
where he makes the book extremely dense to read. From chapter one to chapter six so far, there is a lot
of information that he gives us as readers with fact after fact, but not a lot of detail on the main points
that he is trying to make. This can make the reading that we have been doing highly confusing to
understand. As he begins to make a very significant point that had to do with

The Enchanted Bluff Essay example
The Enchanted Bluff
The Enchanted Bluff , by Willa Cather, takes place in the bare cornfields of Nebraska during the early
1900 s where only rivers liven up the landscape. Six boys delve into the idea of a city on top of a bluff
in the desert, they become captivated with the idea of visiting the bluff. The boys eagerly discuss ways
of dominating this mystifying bluff: throwing up a ladder, or using a rocket. All the boys vow to get to
the bluff some day. Twenty years pass and none visit it. One of the young boys tells the story to his
son and his son thinks of nothing else but the bluff. The author does an excellent job of providing

The reader gets a sense of how the boys lived when Cather mentions how, Tip worked hard in his
father s grocery store every afternoon, and swept it out before school in the morning, even his
recreations were laborious (Cather 413). When reading Cather s works, there is a feeling that she
taught the best of all philosophies, that of love, hard work, and courage (Wells) . Through the tone of
this story, the reader easily senses that this old fashioned town run with hard work and honesty is
careless. The author does an excellent job of describing individuals in the town such as, Percy Pound
who took half a dozen boys story papers and was always kept in reading detective stories behind the
desk (Cather 413). Cather s writing style shows an unhampered zest for enjoyment (Wells). The reader
gets the feeling that the character Percy Pound is a young laid back inquisitive boy who likes
adventures. Willa Cather not only uses local color to show descriptions of the characters in the story
but also in conveying the setting.
Willa Cather provides vivid imagery throughout the story to set the relaxed tone. The reader imagines
a very descriptive portrait of the boys hometown when the story mentions how the oblique rays of the
light made a dazzling glare on the white sand about us (Cather 411). Realities and fantasies...her art is
a method of preserving the wonder of youthful happiness (Wells). When reading this Willa Cather

Comparison Of Moral Arguments And Ethical Theories
How I Approach Moral Arguments and Ethical Theories The controversial moral argument that is
going to be discussed in this paper is homosexuality in relation to religious beliefs and gay marriage.
My beliefs are that this practice is morally wrong, but who am I to be the judge? The approach used to
base this reasoning on is a simple question. Does this issue affect me? If a homosexual couple has the
desire to wed, I do not see any possible reason that this would affect my livelihood. I will let God
decide if this practice is acceptable or should be punished. Logically, there is no way to determine who
is right or wrong in the argument, but it is useful to determine if the argument is good or bad (Mosser,
2011). A few premises that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My viewpoint follows the principle of deontology. There is no excuse for lying. Lying is a hurtful act
of disrespect and thus should not be done (Mosser, 2011, Ch. 5, p. 15). Once again, this belief is due to
religious beliefs that lying is wrong. The utilitarian viewpoint of lying is acceptable if it benefits the
greatest good for the greatest number of people is a weak argument. What about those people that do
not benefit? Do they not matter? I believe that everyone can contribute. Thomas Plante, Ph. D. a
professor with Santa Clara University has this to say on the subject, When it comes to making ethical
decisions we need to balance the pros and cons of using multiple approaches to ethics in order to
figure out what the right thing to do really is. Sometimes different ethical approaches conflict. When
they do, certain values or approaches must trump others. So, compassion might trump honesty on
occasion (Plante, 2011). While this viewpoint is utilitarian, there are many valid points. However, I
always believe that honesty is the best policy to save any future repercussions such as a lost
friendship, or a legal dispute. I also believe there are ways to get around lying to keep someone s
feelings from being hurt. Using such phrases as it s in God s hands, we ll see, and simply I can t tell
you are good ways to avoid the question, or to answer without 100%

Their Eyes Were Watching God Symbol Analysis
Symbols and Metaphors In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neale Hurston uses symbols and
metaphors to enrich the characters in the novel. Through Janie, the main character, the use of the pear
tree, the horizon and the road, and the storm help cultivate her romantic journey. Her dream under the
pear tree helps set the standard and expectation for her three marriages. The horizon represents
unknown things that are to come in her journey. The road symbolizes the bridge between Janie s
reality and her dreams. The storm represents the ever present chaos that is in nature. In addition, the
symbolism is strengthened as it is depicted through Janie s point of view. Janie s dream under the pear
tree symbolizes her desire for love. The earliest memory she recalls during her story to Pheoby was
spending every minute that she could steal from her chores under that tree for the last three days (10).
As she lies there, Hurston uses vivid and direct language to portray Janie s thoughts about sexuality
with phrases such as snowy virginity of the bloom (10). Not only does she observe the characteristics
of the buds, she also finds the action fascinating. She saw a dust bearing bee sink into the sanctum of a

Picture a student who always excels in every subject, yet learns nothing in school because they have
already learned everything on their own. They constantly find themselves being far ahead of their
classmates and not having to put any effort into assignments because the work they are given is too
easy for them. There are other schools that teach at their level, but cost thousands of dollars to attend.
What would you do if you had to choose between going to an affordable school that taught you
nothing, or paying thousands of dollars to attend a school that taught material at your level? The only
other option would be homeschooling, or parent led education based in one s home. As of September
2017, more than 1.7 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents choose homeschooling over public or private school for a number of reasons. What are those
reasons? First, homeschooling poses a customized learning system that grants students with the
chance to learn and develop at their own pace. Next, families that homeschool their children have a
stronger bond with each other, building a safe and caring learning environment for students. Lastly,
research has shown that homeschooled students are above average in terms of social levels. Public
schooling may be beneficial to some students, but until the system is further improved for
convenience and profit to all, homeschooling is a more effective method of education. To start off,
homeschooling offers many learning benefits to students because it allows them to learn and develop
at their own pace. Instead of being restricted from learning about certain things in public school,
students are given individualized education that fits their needs and interests. This allows them to
excel at subjects they are good at, and work on subjects that they are struggling in. According to
Camille DiMaio, author of Before the Rain Falls, and mother of four homeschooled students, Our
oldest, who is college bound very shortly, was drawn to reading and writing. She excelled at those and

Dennis Kozlowski s Leadership In Crisis
Tyco international is a corporation that was founded in 1960 Arthur J. Rosenberg. It began as an
investment and holding company that eventually expanded into Healthcare, Electrical and Electronics,
Specialty Products and Fire and Security Services. Tyco became a solid publically traded company
under its founder and leader Arthur J Rosenberg. Under his leadership, Tyco not just expanded but
grew that between 1973 and 1982 the company went from $34 million to 500 million in consolidated
sales. (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2011). The story of a leadership in crisis reflects on the governance
and unethical misconduct of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dennis Kozlowski. Dennis Kozlowski
entered the corporation in 1975 and at the time was under the leadership of Joseph Gaziano. Dennis
was mentored by Gaziano and was quite impressed by the lavish, opulent and affluent lifestyle. In
1982 Gaziano passed away and John F. Fort III became CEO. His leadership style was that of one that
was quite frugal in his spending. This was a change within the culture of Tyco as it moved in a new
direction and Kozlowski had to adapt to the changes. Fort Leadership and Management style was to
cut back on what he saw as wasteful spending. He opposed the extravagance of that of his predecessor
and directed the company focus more towards making a profit for investors and shareholders.
Kozlowski adapted to the changes made by Fort and also supported the vision and new direction the

The Weatherman, an organization that is now known as the Weather Underground, was organized in

Edward Snowden Definition
Beginning with a strong opinion, I believe Edward Snowden s comparison of these two statements is
correct. To sum up Snowden s quote, one person believes that privacy rights do not matter because
they have nothing they need to hide, while the other states they don t need freedom of speech because
they don t have anything they want to vocalize. While the two, at first, may seem to have nothing in
common because of the two vastly different subjects they are speaking about, they are actually both
including the same topic in their statements their rights along with the rights of others.
Simply, just because one does not use their fundamental rights as a United States citizen does not
mean that the rights of other U.S. citizens should be disregarded. ... Show more content on

But even if they did, you can t give away the rights of others because they re not useful to you. More
simply, the majority cannot vote away the natural rights of the minority.
The people stating that nobody needs certain rights simply because they don t use theirs is living in an
isolated state of mind. They hold the belief that everybody should conform to their own personal
opinions. Snowden is correct when he says that someone who feels they need to justify any
fundamental right they are given is trying to modify that right for others, or take it away from those
around them.
I believe that what Edward Snowden had to say about our fundamental rights and those that justify
those rights is absolutely correct. There is no justification in saying that someone s rights do not
matter simply because they aren t useful to a certain individual. It is as wrong to say you don t care
about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide as it is to say you don t care about free
speech because you have nothing to say. As Snowden had also stated in his Reddit post, They are

Medecins Frontieres
Everyone deserves medical help whether they live in an emerging nation or in the heart of New York
City. This is what Bernard Kouchner thought when he created Medecins Sans Frontieres, or Doctors

medical aid to those in need. The amount of helpless people in third world countries shows that
without the aid of Medecins Sans Frontieres citizens would be without the medical assistance that they
deserve. The acts of Medecins Sans Frontieres results in the better being of others. This is
demonstrated through their tireless efforts, resulting in less people at risk. This is well presented, as

this method delivers more data and doing so helps any Medecins Sans Frontieres team determine what

Economic Growth Between Economy And Institutional Changes
Lots of empirical research has studied links between economy and institutional changes. In order for
an economy to flourish, certain legal and social institutions, such as property rights, government
policy, trade and finance, must be in place.
Since its founding, especially after the 1980s, China has experienced a series of economic reforms,
such as the development of non government owned industrial economy, the opening up policy.
Unprecedented growth occurred in China, with its economy increase by 9.5% a year. Meanwhile,
sharp regional disparity becomes one of the biggest development challenges China is facing, with
metropolitan areas of the eastern coast far richer than that of central and western China. Reform along

eventually reaches the conclusion that institutional change factor has a significant positive impact on
economic growth. Gross product will increase by 0.19% when institutional factors increase by 1%.
But its contribution to output is twice less than that of capital accumulation. Additionally, according to
error correcting model, in short term, the institutional factor are not significant, indicating that
institutional changes influence economy development through a long term channel.
The rest of this thesis is organized as below. Literatures review is in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 introduces

If we ask why our social evolution has become so maladaptive, we come immediately upon the key
influence of mass advertising. From an early age, we are bombarded by powerful imagery, deployed
through a hypnotic medium, television, that bypasses conscious filters to directly influence our
subconscious mind. The vivid imagery of television and movies create a seamless virtual reality that
programs our collective nervous system. From America to China, consumerism has become an
organizing principle for billions of peoples lives.
Zen Buddhist philosopher David R. Loy states:
Consumerism requires and develops a sense of our own impoverishment. By manipulating the
gnawing sense of lack that haunts our insecure sense of self, the attention economy insinuates its basic
message deep into our awareness: the solution to any discomfort we might have is consumption.
Needless to say, this all pervasive conditioning is incompatible with the liberative path of Buddhism.
Consumption has replaced religion and citizenship as the way we participate in society. It is one of 4
Megaphenomena that have spiked in intensity over the last century, combining to create
unprecedented danger for the biosphere. Population growth, carbon gas emissions and species
extinctions are the other three megaphenomena.

Do managers ownership concentration affect firms investment policy? According to
citet{agrawal1987managerial}, the firm s specific risks have three effects on the insiders incentives.
First, as a shareholder, insiders can benefit from the increased value of the equity claims if the firms
invest in high risk and high return projects. Second, as risk averse investors, insiders have lower

doing so over selling the shares directly. First, the insiders would not need to sell their stocks at a
discount to fundamental value when his or her selling un balance the normal market demand and

opportunities for corporate insiders to hedge their exposures to firm specific risk.

Deng Xiaoping s Economic Reform in China Essay
The goals of Deng Xiaoping s economic reform were the Four Modernizations . This Four
Modernization refers to the reform of agriculture, industry, national defense, and science technology.
These reforms were to solve the problems of motivating workers and farmers to produce a larger

Deng Xiaoping felt that the quickest way to build a better China was to improve living conditions

Foreign investors were allowed to do the same. They built factories and used cheap Chinese labors to

only provided a lot of jobs for unemployed Chinese, but also to have modern machines that was
brought in by the foreign investors and Chinese workers had opportunities to be trained to use it

Feeling this was not enough to boost the economic up, Deng loaned money from IMF and the World
Bank to upgrade machinery and establish new manufacturing and industrial development (Benson,
48). He opened a total of five towns and villages as SEZs and allowed foreign investors to build
factories and hire Chinese to work for them. It might not be the best way to reform the economic as a
whole, but it played an important role because it benefited the Chinese workers, the investors, and the
Chinese government. During the 1980s, Deng promoted the open door policy to encourage foreign
investment and to trade with the world. China needed larger quantities of raw materials to fuel its
industrial growth so they signed contracts for minerals, timer, and so forth. It had not only provided
China with raw materials that were needed, but also improved the relations with other neighbor

Intelligence also has some connection with school performance that there are links between
intelligence and aptitude in classroom, as might be expected (Cook, 2008 cited Genesee, 1976) On the
other hand, intelligence may play a less important role in language learning that focuses more on
communication and interaction (Cummins, 1980). Hence, it is important to keep in mind that
intelligence is complex and that a person has many kinds of abilities and strengths (Brown, 2000;
Johnson, 2008). For the second cognitive variables is aptitude that refers to the ability to learn quickly

Caught in the Widow s Web. Grice, an essayist, is enchanted by the ways of the arachnid and hunts the
creatures. His vast knowledge on the spiders prevails in an informative tone, but the writing is slightly
eerie, adding depth to the unnerving characterization. Gordon Grice depicts the black widow as one of
the deadliest arachnids and through his use of literary devices and distinct modes of writing he
intertwines the methods of the widow with the evil ways of our world. Grice implements the modes of
description and narration through the identity of the black widow spider to illustrate his deeper

The evil in our world is brought into the picture when Grice compares the killing of a black widow to
an enemy whose death is not sufficient but must be followed by the murder of his children and the
salting of his land and whose unclean remains must not touch our hands (8). The author directly
compares the disgust of the spider s remnants, after killing it, to the revulsion one experiences after
murdering a human. The ugly webs of the black widow spider correlates to the ugly messes of evil
throughout an individual s life. The widow s web is painted by messy looking tangles in the corners
and bends of things and under logs and debris (2). Humans value order and cleanliness over disarray,
which is equivalent to evil. Grice portrays this through the black widow s webs and their state of being
unkempt. In other words, Grice s metaphor of untidiness compared to disorder and evil gives the
readers another example of how the spider and evil in the world directly

Lansgton Hughes and Jesse B. Semple
In the early 1940s an African American writer by the name of Langston Hughes, who flourished
during the Harlem Renaissance in New York, had established a character in his short story writings
named Jesse B. Semple. Through these short stories he used this character to represent the black man
of his times. However the question remains, is Jesse B. Semple an accurate representation of the black
man of 1940s? This question can best be answered by looking at the conditions of society during that
time period, what the mind set of the black man in that era and comparing it to the representation that
Hughes created with Jesse B. Semple.

The society in which Langston Hughes was projecting his work to was the era of the Harlem
Renaissance. However, even though the, Simple stories were created during the Harlem Renaissance
they held more importance during the 1940s. To best comprehend what the character, Jesse B. Semple
represented you must look at the society of that era and the point in time he was created. Hughes
began writing the, Simple stories in 1943. It started as a weekly column in the Negro Newspaper, the
Chicago Defender. During the 1940s the black man was still experiencing oppression and segregation
from the whites in America. The Civil Rights movement had not yet taken place so blacks were still
considered less then a citizen. Blacks in America could not vote yet nor could they eat in the same
restaurants as whites or even get a job other than a servant in a white business or establishment.
Therefore, with the type of climate that the society of the 1940s had, many of the black authors
coming out of the Harlem Renaissance, especially Hughes, were considered radicals.
During the 1940s there were many authors creating poems and stories to try and uplift the spirit of the
black community in New York. However, Langston Hughes felt inspired to write about a fictional
character, which in he attempted to represent all of the feelings of the black man without being blatant

Citizenship As A Citizen Of A State
A broad description of citizenship is to be a citizen of a state. This can entail numerous responsibilities
and opportunities. With that in mind, it is easier to think of citizenship not just as something that is
owned and held, like a piece of paper, but instead is a responsibility that holds positive consequences
if a citizen upholds their end of the deal. Not only is it a responsibility, but it is a type of contract
between the individual and the state. By making it a contract it holds those responsibilities and
rewards that both sides obtain and uphold at an equal matter. Although some freedoms are often given
up for citizenship, there is an understanding that the contract between the state and the citizen is not
lessened. With the idea of a contract, it is interesting to explore what are the rights and responsibilities
of both the individual and the state, and also how far does the state extend in the sense of citizenship
as a contract, it is possible to have global citizenship. When discussing any sort of contract, an
individual is generally more interested in how it benefits themselves. These benefits are known as
rights. For these purposes, rights are something that are given to a citizen when they receive
citizenship. In the United States, these include things such as the right to vote or the right to own a
gun. What makes rights and freedoms different is that a right is not automatically assumed by a person
what this means is that, a person can buy a gun for

Analysis Of The Poem The House Of Asterion
The House of Asterion is a marvel. The concepts, writing style, and use of literary devices all pay
tribute to Jorge Borges s skill as a writer. The House of Asterion has many points that prompt an in
depth literary discussion. At first glance at this written work, the reader may see some obvious themes.
The story is basically a different perspective on the Minotaur myth, it explores the extreme loneliness
the main character, Asterion, feels, and it challenges common roles of good against evil. The different
perspective is perhaps the most prominent theme readers see in the story. Additionally, the very real
loneliness and boredom Asterion experiences, and the path he seemingly chooses towards the end of
the story, shows an almost human aspect to an otherwise mindless monster; this would most certainly
also attract a reader s attention. And finally the theme of roles being switched from traditional places
would perhaps catch the attention of a majority of readers. However, there is one more theme that is
quite awe inspiring but rarely considered. That of the labyrinth in The House of Asterion being the
center of the universe, and at its center, the Minotaur. It is said by many that perhaps Asterion is
dreaming. That his world is the labyrinth and he is the center of it. This will be explored with the
examining the literary devices Jorge Borges uses, other written works he has used this concept in, and
his own personal accounts.

Debadyuti Das Associate Professor, Faculty of Management Studies University of Delhi, India. The Journal of IIMT FORECASTING THE PASSENGER TRAFFIC MOVEMENT IN LUFTHANSAAIRLINES: A SUPPLY CHAIN PERSPECTIVE Aniruddh Kr Singh Debadyuti Das The present paper attempts to find out the forecasted passenger traffic movement of Lufthansa Airlines on quarterly basis at a global level by employing four forecasting methods namely moving average, exponential smoothing, Holt s model and Winter s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The paper is concluded with a brief summary, potential contribution and limitations of the same. REVIEW OF LITERATURE Forecasting literature is replete with a number of studies ranging from simple time series forecasting models to econometric models as also the forecasting models employing artificial intelligence techniques etc. Researchers have employed the forecasting models with a view to finding out the forecasted demand of traffic for a particular period. However, the study findings reveal that there does not exist a single model which consistently outperforms other models in all situations. Quantitative forecasting methods can be categorized under three broad heads: (1) time series modeling, (2) econometric models and (3) other quantitative models (Song and Li, 2008). Under time series models, several techniques are available, e.g. Moving Average, Exponential Smoothing, Holt s Model, Winter s Model, ARIMA etc. (Makridakis et al, 2003). In time series model, particular attention is paid to exploring the historic trends and patterns of the time series involved and to predict the future of this series based on trends and patterns identified in the model. Since time series models require only historical observations of a variable, it is less costly in data collection and model estimation. However, these models cannot account for the changes in demand that might occur in different periods. The major advantages of econometric models over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The French American Alliance And Connection Is One That The French American alliance and connection is one that has existed since the founding of the United States of America. The French lent their support to the American Patriots in the form of supplies and weapons until they gained full independence from Great Britain. There were even many French notables directly involved within the Revolutionary War such as Lafayette and Pierre Charles L Enfant who legitimized the idea of the revolution in Europe(1). The French also gained a lot from their alliance, as they not only took inspiration from the American Revolution and Constitution, and completely restructured their government and society shortly afterwards. Both countries wanted more rights, equal representation, and more comprehensive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, it is the way that votes are translated into seats in parliament or other areas of government such as presidency (3). It is from here, where the differences in political systems between the United States and France begin to form. In the history of the 20th century there are basically three types of established democratic regimes; presidential, parliamentary and a mix of both. Though France is semi presidential and America only presidential, they both work best for their respective socio political contexts. Historically, France has had a much harder and rockier road to established democracy than America. France s government has been through many phases characterized as the Five Republics. The constitution of the Fifth Republic (which is in place today) was drawn up several weeks after Gen. Charles de Gaulle was invested as the last prime minister of the Fourth Republic. The new constitution, which was adopted by an 80 percent vote in a popular referendum held in September 1958, was tailor made for de Gaulle. It contained much of what the past four republics had such as both a president and prime minister, as well as a bicameral legislature in the form of the National Assembly and the Senate(4). It is important to note here that France has both a president and a prime minister thus making the Head of Government and Chief of Staff two separate roles, respectively. This is what makes France a semi presidential system ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Canadian Constitution Act of 1982 I found myself thinking sociologically when I realized that equality in Canada is less practiced as what the Canadian Constitution Act of 1982 claims. In this constitution, it is stated that every individual should be treated equally regardless of their race, ethnicity, colour, religion, sex, age, and any disability; however, in reality, individuals experience inequality in the form of racism throughout the Canadian society. For instance, a few months ago, a black male was asked to leave the St. Laurent shopping centre by the mall securities as the position of his pants were viewed as not family friendly but this type of fashion is normal for teenagers who are influenced by the hip hop culture. As the man did not want to cause any trouble, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, in 1940s, Canadian born, black students were not admitted in Canadian nursing schools because of the idea that Canadian hospitals would not hire them. Thus, the author concludes that Black nurses face racism today because of the historical exclusion and segmentation in the labour market. The authors, Gillian Creese and Tania Das Gupta, both demonstrate that equality is less pronounced than the Canadian Constitution Act of 1982 states. Although these two articles were written on different time periods in history, both articles display racism in the Canadian society, specifically at a workplace. Creese focuses on the experiences of Chinese workers whereas Gupta investigates the experiences of Black nurses. However, Creese s description of racism is more extreme than Gupta s, which could indicate that there has been an improvement in equality in Canada. Regardless, these articles prove that there is a difference between the promise made by the constitution and reality. Canada is known as a multicultural nation and is praise internationally for its immigration policy. However, there has been an issue of racial profiling in the criminal justice system. The article The Usual Suspects: Police Stop and Search Practices in Canada by Scot Wortley and Akwasi Owusu Bempah, explores the existence of racial profiling. The authors argue that racial discrimination has existed throughout the Canadian society, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Rudyard Kipling s The Man Who Would Be King Essay Rudyard Kipling s The Man who Would Be King deals with man s ability to rule. The character Dravot s success and failure in ruling derives from the perception of him as a god, instead of a king. Kipling uses the perception of Dravot as a god to show that though a king can rule as a god, he becomes a king by being human. Dravot gains kingly power by being perceived as a god. The perception of him as a god occurs through his actions and luck. After helping the first village Peachy and he find in Kafiristan, Dravot takes power from the former leaders. He becomes more than a leader to the people, however, as every morning Dravot sat by the side of old Imbra, and the people came and worshipped. That was Dravot s order (92). By ... He has the symbol for Grand Master sewn onto an apron that he wears in front of a priest, and the old chap falls flat on his face at Dravot s feet and kisses em. Luck again, says Dravot, they say it s the missing Mark that no one could understand the why of (95). The displaying of the mark proves Dravot as a god, since only the Gods know that (99). Dravot establishes his kingdom by ruling as a god, not a king. Dravot s perception as a god leads to his downfall by conflicting with his kingly aspirations. He intends to establish a dynasty, and he needs a Queen to breed a King s son for the King (98). Dravot plans to chose a woman from amongst his tribes; alas, his people are skeptical of this, for How can daughters of men marry Gods or Devils? (99). Dravot s god appearance directly conflicts with his aspiration for a dynasty; he cannot find a wife who will want him as a god, yet he needs a woman to bear his children. The Army Nurse Corps is an organization that provides health care for military personnel, their families and also retirees. One of these brave nurses was named Anna Mae Hays. The clothes were bold and diverse as people wore clothes they preferred over what was the social norm of the gender, race, or any other category. Women started wearing more masculine clothes, men experimented with different suits and many unisex outfits and new styles emerged and became popular in this decade. Therefore, due to the attitude of the seventies being about individualism, the decade was titled as the Me decade. By manipulating the gnawing sense of lack that haunts our insecure sense of self, the attention economy insinuates its basic message deep into our awareness: the solution to any discomfort we might have is consumption. Needless to say, this all pervasive conditioning is incompatible with the liberative path of Buddhism. Consumption has replaced religion and citizenship as the way we participate in society. Gordon Grice depicts the black widow as one of the deadliest arachnids and through his use of literary devices and distinct modes of writing he intertwines the methods of the widow with the evil ways of our world. Grice implements the modes of description and narration through the identity of the black widow spider to illustrate his deeper meaning. The ugly webs of the black widow spider correlates to the ugly messes of evil throughout an individual s life. The widow s web is painted by messy looking tangles in the corners and bends of things and under logs and debris (2). Humans value order and cleanliness over disarray, which is equivalent to evil. However, even though the, Simple stories were created during the Harlem Renaissance they held more importance during the 1940s. To best comprehend what the character, Jesse B. Semple represented you must look at the society of that era and the point in time he was created. Hughes began writing the, Simple stories in 1943. It started as a weekly column in the Negro Newspaper, the Chicago Defender. During the 1940s the black man was still experiencing oppression and segregation from the whites in America. The Civil Rights movement had not yet taken place so blacks were still considered less then a citizen. Blacks in America could not vote yet nor could they eat in the same restaurants as whites or even get a job other than a servant in a white business or establishment. Therefore, with the type of climate that the society of the 1940s had, many of the black authors coming out of the Harlem Renaissance, especially Hughes, were considered radicals. During the 1940s there were many authors creating poems and stories to try and uplift the spirit of the black community in New York. • 35. Citizenship As A Citizen Of A State A broad description of citizenship is to be a citizen of a state. This can entail numerous responsibilities and opportunities. With that in mind, it is easier to think of citizenship not just as something that is owned and held, like a piece of paper, but instead is a responsibility that holds positive consequences if a citizen upholds their end of the deal. Not only is it a responsibility, but it is a type of contract between the individual and the state. By making it a contract it holds those responsibilities and rewards that both sides obtain and uphold at an equal matter. Although some freedoms are often given up for citizenship, there is an understanding that the contract between the state and the citizen is not lessened. With the idea of a contract, it is interesting to explore what are the rights and responsibilities of both the individual and the state, and also how far does the state extend in the sense of citizenship as a contract, it is possible to have global citizenship. When discussing any sort of contract, an individual is generally more interested in how it benefits themselves. These benefits are known as rights. For these purposes, rights are something that are given to a citizen when they receive citizenship. In the United States, these include things such as the right to vote or the right to own a gun. • 36. Analysis Of The Poem The House Of Asterion The House of Asterion is a marvel. The concepts, writing style, and use of literary devices all pay tribute to Jorge Borges s skill as a writer. The House of Asterion has many points that prompt an in depth literary discussion. At first glance at this written work, the reader may see some obvious themes. The story is basically a different perspective on the Minotaur myth, it explores the extreme loneliness the main character, Asterion, feels, and it challenges common roles of good against evil. The different perspective is perhaps the most prominent theme readers see in the story. Additionally, the very real loneliness and boredom Asterion experiences, and the path he seemingly chooses towards the end of the story, shows an almost human aspect to an otherwise mindless monster; this would most certainly also attract a reader s attention. And finally the theme of roles being switched from traditional places would perhaps catch the attention of a majority of readers. However, there is one more theme that is quite awe inspiring but rarely considered. That of the labyrinth in The House of Asterion being the center of the universe, and at its center, the Minotaur. It is said by many that perhaps Asterion is dreaming. That his world is the labyrinth and he is the center of it. This will be explored with the examining the literary devices Jorge Borges uses, other written works he has used this concept in, and his own personal accounts. The labyrinth is the universe with ...
