Lab Report On The Reaction Time
Nicholas Durazo
KINE2202 section 002
Lab Report 1
Introduction
The reaction time (RT) of students was measured in the experiment to determine whether light or
sound stimulus initiates a quicker response time. The question of whether or not RT was related to
movement time (MT) was also challenged. Each student performed two test in random order; one
testing the reaction time of a red light stimulus, or visual reaction time (VRT); and the other testing the
reaction time of a beeping sound stimulus, or auditory reaction time (ART). The student completed the
VRT trial by simply receiving the stimulus and pressing a button. The student placing and holding
their hand on a button starts the ART trial. Once the student receives the stimulus (beep) they press the
adjacent button as fast as they can. The ART trial does not only include the data of the RT, but also the
data from the MT. Having previous knowledge that light travels faster than sound; one can predict that
VRT is faster than ART. The prediction that MT is independent upon RT can be made with the thought
that there are so many opposing variables that could affect the MT of an individual unrelated RT such
as old age
Methods
In the experiment, 80 students were randomly separated into groups of 2 to write down the data from
the test for the other individual. The VRT was measured by pressing a button once the student had
seen the stimulus. The reaction time data would simply show up on the screen once the student
completed

Charles Mingus Research Paper
Charles Mingus
Charles Mingus was born on 22 April 1922 in Los Angeles, California. His father joined the army in
1915 after a frustrating career in the post office. His mother died only five months after Mingus was
born.
The times were hard in Los Angeles, as more and more poor people migrated into the city, and the
small suburb of Watts turned into a black ghetto inside of a single decade. But young Mingus was
pretty much protected from all the social pressure.
His family was basically middle class. His father has remarried, and Mingus step mother had soon
taken an active role in his education. Mamie Carson Mingus encouraged her step children to take an
interest in music. This has soon taken shape in the form of violin ... Show more content on

He was already trying to work out alternative techniques of working with his musicians. He would
teach them his music by playing it for them, and would take a more active role in directing the band.
By the end of his teens, Mingus had become proficient in music theory, and had a vast knowledge of
music, classical and Jazz. Among his influences are Duke,
Wagner, Strauss, Debussy. This becomes evident in the fact that most of Mingus music is
programmatic and quite on the romantic side.
Staying on the west coast, Mingus began playing gigs and on recording dates. His first high profile
exposure was on a recording with the Illinois Jacquet band. In this recording a few solo spots showed
Mingus to be an innovative bassist, playing double stops, jumping octaves, counter melodies and with
a sound that was well ahead of his time.
While developing his own style, Mingus was still composing and trying to keep his own band together
by doing gigs. This turned out to be quite hard and depressed
Mingus almost to the point of being institutionalized.
Around 1947 Mingus started playing more luxurious gigs, and finally had been given a steady job
with the Lion Hampton band, where he was featured as a soloist. This led to more and more people
calling him, a better income and more motivation to play his own music.
By 1953 he has advanced well beyond

The Issues Raised by the Growth of Manchester and the...
Manchester is a city in England that experienced tremendous growth between the 1750 s and 1850 s.
The population grew from 18,000 in 1750 to over 300,000 by the census of 1851. This growth called
for more homes and factories to be built in order to support the growing population. With the
constructing of more factories to support the rise in population came the growth of industry and
manufacturing. The growth of the city, along with these factories, brought about several issues other
than the manufacturing of valuable goods. The overcrowding from the population growth and the
smog, smoke, and other toxic waste from the factories brought about the issue of pollution and bad
living conditions. Pollution and the horrible quality of living was ... Show more content on

Wheelan and Co., a preface to a business directory, says, It is to the population that Manchester is
mainly indebted to its elevation as a seat of commerce and manufacture...for which it is distinguished
beyond any other town in the world (Document 9). This also shows how the growth of the city and its
population resulted in this issue of manufacturing and commercial growth. Wheelan and Co. reacts to
this elevation of the city saying, Perhaps no part of England, not even London, presents such
remarkable and attractive features as Manchester, the Workshop of the World (Document 9). This
reaction is positive toward the manufacturing growth of the city, describing it as remarkable and
attractive. Another positive opinion on the growth of manufacturing is seen when Thomas B.
Macaulay, a liberal Member of Parliament, says that improvements are owing to the increase in
national wealth which the manufacturing system has produced (Document 3). This reaction shows
how he thinks that the growth of manufacturing in Manchester is the basis for the improvement and
the wealth of the whole country of England. Because he is a member of English Parliament, he may
have a positive bias towards Manchester because it is an English city. Alexis de Tocqueville, a French
visitor to Manchester, reacts in a similar way to the issue of the growth of manufacturing that resulted
from the growth of the city saying, from this [city] the greatest

Airbus has communicated to its suppliers to tag all traceable items with passive RFID transporters
(Roberti, 2015). Boeing is also using this technology to optimize maintenance activities with specific
information regarding maintenance history, parts pedigree, etc. (Lu et al., 2006). It means that the
most of the parts supplied by these two aircraft manufacturers are already tagged with RFID
technology. American airlines can use their business partners experience with RFID technology to
improve their warehousing efficiency. Before initiating the RFID project American airlines should
discuss and document the different aspects of project including software, hardware, RFID tags,
environmental factors, regulatory concerns, reliability, security issues, network, throughput and
maintenance.
Implementation of RFIF technology is a complex task and engage both technology and human factors.
We are proposing the framework based on literature search (Ting et al., 2013) that will suite
requirements. In order to implement RFID technology in current warehousing operation at American
Airlines, we recommend six step procedure as followings.
1. Create a project team to implement RFID technology :American Airlines should create a specialized
team, who will be responsible for planning, designing, implementing and refining of RFID

Why Is The Word Important Essay
Important; One of the many words that could mean everything. The meaning of that word means
differently according to kinds of people. Tracing the origin of the word would give us an idea on how
importance means when the word was first used, in other words, how the people in the Medieval times
defined the word. It will then be compared to how the word important means nowadays to see what
made the meaning change. Personal experience also contributes to how people define importance. If
you are going to ask me, I would say that a thing is important if it really is needed or essentially
necessary for us to live/survive in our lifetime.
According to Dictionary.com (n.d.), the word important is a stem from the Medieval Latin (1580 90)
word importāns, presentparticiple [sic] of importāre, to be of consequence, weigh. You could say in
other words that it means that it is being of significance or being of distinction. Based from the word s
origin, it can be assumed that people during that period say something is important if it s precious or ...

It is often said that our parents are our first teachers so our understanding and meaning of words first
came from them. We may find money important if we are born into a rich family. We may find
traditions very important if we are born into a family who still practices traditions. Our beliefs affects
how we think and interpret things. Nowadays, the environment we are at contributes greatly to how
we define things like importance for it is another way for us to adapt.
What is most important in my life is cultivating my ability to help people be happy, and to relieve

Essay about Fine Quality Baroque Music in the Era of...
Baroque music is the western music art style that was composed in the era of Renaissance, that is,
between 1600 and 1750. Music at any given period reflects tendencies, impulses and influences that
are found in art of other kinds of the same period. Therefore the name baroque also applied to the
architecture, literature and art in the same period. Baroque has in the past and to some degree in the
present had the implications of abnormality, grotesqueness and absurdity. But in its applications to
music in the Renaissance period the term baroque does not have connotations that are pejorative
because much of the music composed in this period is of high and fine quality (Swain, 7).
The instruments that are used for baroque music even now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The performer however should be guided by some factors that help them know what instrument to use
where and what sound to get from what instrument (Donington, 131).
One, the performer should be able to distinguish indications that are scanty for the instruments that the
notations may be showing. In that all the instruments that the performer is using fit in the kind of that
they are playing. They should also look out for the effects of the musician that may need working on
for the actual performance (Donington, 131).
Two, as much as it is the responsibility of the performer to choose the instruments, looking up for
alternative instruments that are listed is important. That way, if there is an instrument that is missing,
the performer should always be able to get an alternative. This also suitable when the there are many
instruments needed, the alternative instruments can be used interchangeably (Donington, 131).
Three, the notion that instruments that are suitable are acceptable may not always work. A performer
should understand that every instrument is made for a specific use and should be the only use it must
be put to. That is, it would be impossible to use an instrument and try to make it sound in a particular
way. The distinctions were made in the baroque era as much as they do now (Donington, 131). Every
instrument in baroque music should be used to what it really is designed to, this is to make sure that

Koreans Have A Rich Culture

Korean Language Honorifics
Koreans have a rich culture as well as other countries in the world from their festivals, foods,
technology and much more. Among the most prominent Korean culture is their language honorific or
polite system. You include specific elements in the language depending on who you speak to or what
setting you are in.
If you plan to learn the Korean language or are currently learning the language, you ll find that
applying honorifics is one of the more difficult things or probably a complicated aspect to learn.
However, it is imperative that you learn to implement honorifics in your speech because if not, you
will be deemed really rude by Koreans.
Let s start off with the most common instance when you should use honorific language. First, Koreans
value age. The older you are the more you are respected because of your seniority. So the first thing
you have to keep in mind is when speaking to a much older person, apply honorifics in your speech.
Korean speech is in the Subject/Object/Verb format as opposed to Subject/Verb/Object for English. To
use honorific speech, you must add a yo or seyo at the end of your sentences. seyo which is the
combination of shi + oyo is much more respectful. You usually use these when speaking in an
informal setting such as when you meet older acquaintances that you re not too close with or with a
senior like a teacher or a mentor. The same goes when you meet a friend of a friend.

I limped the rest of the way and Kate made sure that I wouldn t slip again. After what felt like forever
we finally arrived into town and I spotted a big fancy wedding dress store.
Wow, I said as we approached the huge store.
As we walked inside I noticed that the store looked even better than it did on the outside. The only
wedding dresses looked like it was something a celebrity would wear and I couldn t help but look at
all the beautiful dresses.
It was still early so we were probably the first ones in the store today.

Ok, thank you, Kate said after swiping her credit card and typing in the numbers.
The dress was placed in a long clear bag so it wouldn t get ruined. When I looked outside the window
it was still raining. As we exited the store, I asked Kate where we were going next.

Why didn t we just get it from that store? I m pretty sure they had bridesmaids dresses too

Publicizing on its premises is likewise an unquestionable requirement for El Carte. All cafĂŠs ought to
have an exterior that obviously recognizes the foundation for what it is. This implies substantial
windows (if conceivable) uncovering within sitting range, tables set up outside and espresso menus
posted outside. The cafe should set up clear and noticeable store signage, pick an exceptionally
unmistakable area and place little, portable signs by the street, by the walkway or in its outside sitting
region. Selecting the right name can be helpful for on premises publicizing, also. (Ingram)

The cafe should use deals advancements and publicizing together occasionally to give its shop a boost

Watching A Disappearing Number in Theater Essay examples
Choose one production that you have seen and which you particularly enjoyed and discuss the aspects
which made it so successful.
A Disappearing Number
I went to see a Disappearing Number, in the Theater. The production was performed by Complicite
and was directed by Simon McBurney. I really enjoyed this performance. I thought that the mixture of
maths and romance as well as the structure of the performance by incorporating the past and the
present together, was extremely successful.
The most successful aspect of the performance for me were the scene changes. I found that the
rotation of the blackboard, center stage, where the actors were able to stoop beneath it in order to enter
and exit the stage, was an effective touch to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another really effective aspect to the performance was the use of technology, including sound effects,
projections, pod casts and voice overs. The scene which stood out most for me, concerning technology
would be the scene where Al is trapped in the lecture theatre. Here, he begins to look through Ruth?s
belongings of books, papers and passports. While he is doing this, actions too small to be seen from
the audience, a live streaming is being projected up onto the whiteboard behind to show us, as the
audience, what he is looking at. Al starts to read a page from a book which has been marked down and
as he starts to read a voice over starts reading the same words, quietly at first and as that gradually
builds up in volume, Al?s voice decreases in volume till its just the voice over reading out the words
from the book. This is one of the first links to the past, a key theme in the performance, as the voice
over is the voice of G H Hardy, the great mathematician reading from his own book.
We were introduced to the performance by the character Ruth giving a maths lecture, simple at first
but then getting extremely difficult to follow, going off on a tangent, using mathematical terminology
I had never even heard of. This maths theme carried on throughout the whole performance, making it,
from my point of view, the strongest link from the present to the past, as Ruth was wanting to follow
in the footsteps of Ramanujan and Hardy.

The Pentadic Analysis Of Kenneth Burke s My Girl
The world is thriving in a miscellaneous collection of well known types of media that allow people to
indulge in new societies, sophistications, and stories they have never known before. Correspondingly,
there is an assortment of ways to analyze this media to further understand the reason behind having
meaning in literature in addition to the recipients responses to these specific meanings. In particular,
one method used to examine media, as well as its ongoing objective in both classic and contemporary
society, is Kenneth Burke s dramatic pentad. In response to evaluating narratives from divergent
perspectives, the pentadic analysis is composed of five parts: agent, scene, act, agency, and purpose.
For instance, by applying this analyzation technique to the 1991 Howard Zieff film My Girl it can be
illustrated through which means these five elements create value in a fictional composition.
Specifically, My Girl is primarily an agent based film focusing on Vada s Sultenfuss exploration of life
through the means of death. However, Vada s circumstances of her mother s passing during childbirth
and father s house run funeral parlour creates a narrative focused on purpose by being the initial
reason Vada has an obsession with demise and disease. To further elaborate, the film follows 11 year
old hypochondriac Vada Sultenfuss through her summer of 1972. From the beginning, it is
demonstrated that although Vada clearly has an infatuation with death she does not truly understand it.
In fact, Vada reads the report of each dead body her father brings home to prepare for viewing and
then reports herself to the doctor claiming she has the same disease that killed them. Under those
circumstances, Vada has also lived her whole life believing that she killed her own mother. Her father,
a maladroit widower named Harry, cannot seem to connect with his daughter so, in response, he
ignores her as he journeys through his new adventures with dating. In the midst of her father s new
engagement to Shelley, her admiration of an unavailable teacher, and her believe she is a killer who is
dying of a new disease every week, her best friend Thomas dies from an allergic reaction. Vada is left

Compare The Structure Of Prokaryotic And Eukaryotic Cells
Vicki Millard
Unit 10193 Introduction to Cell Biology
1. Compare the structures of Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells
There are two different types of cells; prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Both cells have differences,
including the shape and size of the cell. Prokaryote cells are found in bacteria such as E coli,
Streptococcus and Staphylococcus, whilst eukaryote cells are found in plants, animals and fungi.
Eukaryotic cells have many components which lead to the cell having a much more complex structure
and are larger in size, measuring between 10 and 100 micrometres in diameter. Prokaryotic cells, on
the other hand, are much smaller, measuring between 0.2 and 2 micrometres and having a much
simpler structure. The two cells share similarities such as; containing DNA, ribosomes and
cytoplasms. According to Bassett, The ribosomes are told, what kind of protein to make and when to
make it via the direction of the DNA. [Bassett. Dawsonera.com. P. 83. 2005.] DNA in a prokaryotic
cell is described to be a single circular chromosome, whereas the eukaryotic cell has multiple linear
chromosomes. However, the main comparison between the two cells is that the eukaryotic cell
contains a nucleus, whereas the prokaryotic cell lacks a nucleus.

Gender Stereotypes

The Enlightenment And Its Influence On Scotland s Culture
Before the Scottish Enlightenment which began in the second half of the 18th century, religion was a
centerpiece of many western cultures. Members of Scotland s society viewed the world with a
religious specifically Christian lense (Dickenson 260). Essentially the highest authority in Scotland at
this time was the Presbyterian Church of Scotland ( Constitution of the.. ). Once the Enlightenment
began in Scotland this religious lense was challenged and the idea of viewing religion and the world as
a whole through a rational lense became popular. Great thinkers such as David Hume challenged the
church and the general public with arguments that put the validity of faith and religion as a whole into
question. In addition to there being critics of religion, there were also thinkers such as George
Campbell who actively defended Christianity. It is no doubt that this shift in thinking significantly
impacted Scotland s culture, but in in what ways was this shift to more rational important? Why was

The Complexity Of Identity Work Constructed By Manh Essay
Data analysis
This section provides an analysis of several aspects of identity work constructed by Manh, one of the
five teachers participated in my study. Through the analysis, it is interesting to observe the complexity
of Manh s identity construction. The identity work constructed by Manh encompasses not only aspects
of Manh being a friendly and approachable teacher, but also Manh s approach to power and morality
exercising in the classroom context. The analysis is divided into two main parts. The first part exhibits
examples of how Manh portraits himself as a funny, sensible and approachable teacher. The second
part presents examples where traces of power practice and morality are under scrutiny. Class
observation notes and interview data including are used as a complementary sources for the analysis.
1.1. The dynamic process of identity construction
Drawing from the classroom data, there are examples where Manh s identity construction can be
associated to the identity of a funny, friendly and approachable teacher. This observation is drawn
from several teacher initiated humour examples found in the classroom discourse. The humor is
delivered through teacher s use of humorous questions, imaginary situation and metaphor that
provokes humor. These phenomena are found in extract 1.

Predicting Athletic Performance Using The Five Factor...
The article, Predicting athletic performance using the five factor model of personality by Ralph L.
Piedmont, David C. Hill, Susana Blanco seeks to address how the five factor model of personality
when utilized, is a suitable predictor of athletic performance and how it is can assist in gaining an
insight and understanding of the competitive nature within athletes, to show if there was a correlation
between personality traits within different competitive sport. There have been many other studies used
to evaluate personality within sport such as Cooper s study (1969) that concluded that those that are
more athletic in a competition sense are inclined to be socially confidence, aggressive and have an
increased motivation to achieve. (Piedmont, R., Hill, D., Blanco, S. 769 777, 1997). Therefore the
authors aim was to utlise several testing method to gain a greater insight to there questions and
compliment other studies findings or determine different things. The five factor model constructed by
McCrae and John, 1992 is a scale based self and peer rated scale on 5 traits, these being Neuroticism,
Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. Each personality trait has several other
correlating traits which contribute assist in determining personality within competition. Examples of
results of low neuroticism correlate with high self confidence and low anxiety. High conscientiousness
and extraversion are greatly link with an increase of competiveness and

In order for psychologists to endeavour to define substance abuse, Substance itself must be defined an
in the context of psychology a substance is defined as anything an individual may ingest that alters
mood, cognition or behaviour. Therefore there is clearly a long list of substances including chocolate

depressants such as Heroin and Ecstacy.

Orford 2001 defines addiction (substance abuse) as an attachment to an appetitive activity, so strong
that a person finds it difficult to moderate an activity despite the fact it is causing harm. Davidson and
Neal in 1994 diagnosed substance abuse on the basis of two criteria. The first being Clear and
persistent pathological use of the substance involved and at least one of the following: Failure to fulfil
important obligation/putting oneself or others at physical risk/ having legal difficulties/serious social
or interpersonal problems.
The physiological approach explains substance abuse, using solely biological explanations focussing
on neurotransmitter chemicals, substances in the brain and on genetic differences between people with
and without addiction. Potenza 2001 stated that Neurotransmitters are chemicals, which moves in the
gaps between nerve cells to transmit messages. If the chemical is blocked or replaced, for example,
then the message changes and this affects the physiological systems, also effecting, cognition, mood
and behaviour. Dopamine is regarded as the most commonly associated neurotransmitter having these
effects, although other chemicals have been shown to induce similar effects. Therefore resulting in a

addiction, is physical dependency. Therefore

Essay On Phaseolus Vulgaris
The Phaseolus vulgaris, or better known as pinto beans, is known to be one of the world s healthiest
dried food. Pinto beans typically take about 90 days to grow as a dry bean, but can be harvested
sooner as green snap beans. The Phaseolus vulgaris L. plants is a dry plant that require a long growing
season in warm conditions. Pinto beans must not be planted too early, due to their intolerance for
damp or cold conditions. If the soil drops under or to 50 degrees Fahrenheit the seed will most likely
rot and if the plant is over watered it could lead to white mold in the seed, causing it to die. The
Phaseolus vulgaris L. plants are considered warm season crop; it prefers fertile and well drained soil,

Competition is defined as a struggle between equals, as well as referring to the survival of the fittest in
wake of Charles Darwin s Theory of Evolution(Went, Darwin). Interspecific competition is a form of
competition where two different species compete for the same resource in an ecosystem. Levels of
interspecific competition and how they will effect the plants within the habitat is highly dependent on
nutrient availability. (Aerts)We used the Phaseolus vulgaris as our control and Raphanus sativa as the
competition plant. The easy to grow nature of the pinto bean allowed for accurate analysis of results to
better understand how interspecies competition affects plants. Our hypothesis is that the more
competition present in the immediate environment, the smaller and weaker the pinto bean plant will
grow to be. A plant with more competition, has less nutrients available to be absorbed, causing it to
grow less successfully. Competition results in a plant s inability to maximize both growth rate and
nutrient retention. (Aerts) Weeds in gardens are an every day example of how negative competition
can be detrimental to plant

I. Problem statement Which strategy should Pyramid Door, Inc. implement, along with increased

strategic options are increasing the number of non exclusive dealers by 100, developing a formal

Summary Of The Open Window
Staring out the open window, Megan let the quiet breeze blow in and flow through her long, brown
hair. This is where she would take in her last moments of silence. She watched as the branches swayed
in the wind, their leaves just starting to turn red and fall to the ground. She thought about jumping,
escaping reality, but instead turned and stepped away, dragging the fabric of her puffed up, white dress
with her. Memories of her mother started to flood in her mind, drowning her with unpleasant
reflections. She wondered if she would be able to make it through the rest of the day.
Summer was approaching, Megan could tell by the way the warmth of the sun danced across her skin.
She was finishing up her last week of school, excited to see what summer adventures she would have
this year with her parents. The school bell rang and all of the students ran to line up in front of the
door, screaming goodbyes at the teacher and at each other. One by one, they exited the classroom,
made their way down the once colorful halls, and then out the doors to greet whoever was picking
them up that day. Megan searched the crowd of parents, sprinting towards her father who was standing
with his arms wide open. How was your day Meg? Did you learn any essential information today? her
father had asked, embracing her in his gigantic bear arms. From her view, her father stood like a
tower, hovering over everything beneath him. Education, to him, was important and he wanted to

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Great Influenza
The Great Influenza Rhetorical Analysis Essay Attention Getting Device: John Barry, in his writing,
The Great Influenza, he states, To be a scientist requires not only intelligence and curiosity, but
passion, patience, creativity, self sufficiency, and courage. It is not the courage to venture into the
unknown. It is the courage to accept indeed, embrace uncertainty (Barry 2). During all eras of time,
scientists have endured enormous amounts of adversity. Scientists have had to maintain a wide variety
of skills in several different areas to assist them in different circumstances that they endure. Scientists
must have persistence, due to their main activity being trial and error. This means that once they have
failed, they most certainly have to be willing to try it again. A scientist also must posses acceptance, as
there will be times when they receive results that are not their predictions. Scientist must obtain
acceptance to come to terms with the results found in their laboratory. In John Barry s The Great
Influenza, he utilizes metonymy and rhetorical questioning to characterize scientific research. Topic
sentence: John Barry uses metonymies to relate a scientist s work to an easier understood scenario. In
the middle of his writing, Barry states, A shovel can dig up dirt but cannot penetrate rock. Would a
pick be best, or would dynamite be better or would dynamite be too indiscriminately destructive? If
the rock is impenetrable, if dynamite would destroy what one is looking for, is there another way of
getting information about what the rock holds? (Barry 5). This statement is able to display the use of
metonymy in several ways. This can be seen as the statement is comparing a shovel, pick, and
dynamite to different tactics that a scientist would use. Also, the statement is comparing a rock to an
item or element that possibly holds the information the scientist is seeking. Barry uses the substitution
of these words to help the reader gain a better understanding on the work of a scientist. Barry
mentions words such as shovel , pick , and dynamite to describe the several various methods that a
scientist must consider when taking action (Barry 5). Thus showing, the difficulty

Racial Disparities In Prison
The United States currently has the most prisoners than any other industrialized nation in the world. In
December of 2013 there were more than 1.57 million inmates in federal, state and county prisons and
jails. There has been a 500 790% increase in prison population in the last 30 years, resulting in
overcrowding and lack of funds to support the system. More than half of the prison population are
minorities. One in nine men are likely to be in incarcerated compared to one in fifty six women.
However, African American men have a higher possibility to end up in jail compared to other ethnic

society. He also contributed to literature by developing short stories.
Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. At a young age, his parents
died and his adopted father, John Allan, raised him. Allan was very wealthy, which resulted in Poe
going to some of the best schools available. Poe attended private schools, as well as the University of
Virginia. Poe later spent two years in the military.
Following, Edgar Allan Poe went to New York City where he had some of his work published.
Although he submitted his stories to a number of magazine companies, all of them were rejected. In

severely punishing criminals after their third felony. California, who was one of the first states to

have adopted the same system. The theorists in today s society are deciding that we should resort to
deterrence, and rational punishment as opposed rehabilitation. We are resorting the ideas of James. Q.

new realism (Images of Deviance and Social Control 84). Even more prevalent though, in today s
society is the pathological perspective. A large amount of medical discoveries are being made today to

Born late 1342 1416
Since she became an anchorite that is a recluse who was literally sealed in one closed room adjacent to
Saint Julian s church in Norwich, it is likely that she came from a well to do or noble family (since

The Revelations are a deep well of teaching and insight, and their wealth is not to be captured in a few
pithy quotes. Many books have been written that explore the message of the Revelations as a whole,
and its implications in depth, and their contribution is invaluable. The even Christians for whom Julian
wrote her book are to be encouraged to learn as much as they can from such treasures, but also to

Today virtually nothing is left of the original cell where Julian lived and prayed, wrote her book, and

Although Athens had a stronger navy, the Athenians spent more time making their city beautiful. In
Athens, they used League money to rebuild their city. They spent a lot of time and money to ensure
that they pleased the gods by creating statues, buildings and art. Athens focused on making music and
poetry while Sparta did not. This is important because both city states influenced other states in
Greece by providing examples of art and military techniques. Overall, Spartans focused in maintaining
a powerful military force while Athenians focused on more artistic causes.
The two Greek city states of Athens and Sparta were similar in that they both had social societies that

their cultures were very different. Sparta had a main goal of a strong military while Athens focused on

Gender and Sex Norms in Sports Essay
Gender and Sex Norms in Sports
In our society there are costs both socially and culturally for individuals who choose to violate their
own gender and/or sex norms. We live in a time when, though great advancements have been made,
gender roles are still differentiated out from each other with specific behavior and lifestyle
expectations built into our value system and ascribed to individuals. The past decade has seen a
growing move away from such distinct male/female expectations, however in areas such as sport the
differences and problems that still exist in our gender ideology are much more visible. Though we are

Things changed though, with technology. More and more it was necessary for women to work and
become involved in the public sphere. Out of circumstances they were becoming fiercer, and more
competitive. This challenged the traditional roles women were required to fill and gradually, women
fought back. They began to reclaim themselves and their rights not just in the domestic or private
sphere, but in a public realm as well. They demanded equal rights both in terms of politics and
opportunity. This meant they wanted equal opportunity in everything education, the job market, and
sports.
Title 9 guaranteed these rights. In paper, it guaranteed these rights. In reality, it was still a battle for
women to identify themselves as serious athletes and be taken seriously. It was getting easier though.
Title 9 brought about many policy changes allowing women to enter into the world of sport. The
advancements made opened many opportunity and also many peoples minds. There are still many
problems though, as to where sports and athletics can be allowed to merge with femininity,
masculinity, and traditional gender roles.
The world of sports highlights the problems that still exist for women as well as problems with
modern sex stereotyping and generalizing. The expectations we hold for men and women are less clear
in the realm of sport and the issue has been recently where to draw the line. Is there a line that can be

Why High School Basketball Players Should Go To College
What would you do? Spend at least one year in college and go to the NBA, or play overseas in Europe
and Asia, play with seasoned veterans, earn a paycheck then go to the NBA? In the year 2006, the
NBA and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) agreed to a rule that would only allow
players that were at least one year removed from high school and were at least 19 years of age. This
rule caused much controversy among fans, players, and league executives. I believe players should
spend at least one year in college before declaring for the NBA draft.
The first reason a high school basketball prospect should go to college instead of going overseas is
because, they would have to adjust to a totally new culture. ESPN s college basketball ... Show more

Playing well on a good college team in the tournament could increase your draft stock tremendously.
Rather than being a backup on a bad Euroleague team scoring 5 points per game. Take Malachi
Richardson for example. Malachi Richardson, a wing for the Syracuse Orange, his team made the
tournament, but most thought they would not make it very far. Richardson was not considered a first
rounder in the 2016 draft, but after many wins and Richardson leading Syracuse to the Final Four his
draft stock skyrocketed and was seen by some to be a potential lottery pick in the draft (lottery is
within the first 14 picks). He eventually ended up getting picked at No.22 overall by the Charlotte
Hornets. Bottom line is that, going to college can help because then NBA scouts don t have to go to a
different country.
And the third reason is, if you do not think realistically that you will be drafted, you still have your
scholarship and can stay all 4 years and study for a degree. If you are considered a high draft prospect,
then fail to live up to expectations, you can then stay more years in college. You can stay more years
and improve at basketball for next year s draft. Or you can do both, stay all four years declare for the
NBA draft, and get your college degree. This is the best reason to go to college instead of going
overseas, because college is a privilege. Not

and even the American general public as progressive and center left. However, the reality is that it is a
party with an ideological divergence with different ideological sectors as the conservative center right,

Representative:
Abraham Lincoln: Lawyer and American politician who was the sixteenth president of the United
States (1861 1865). Always evoked as the president who abolished slavery, Abraham Lincoln is one of
the most admired figures in American history; the honesty, the strength of spirit and the depth of his

lemon. Additionally, the narrator is telling the story of Lemons death as well as the story of Mitchell
Sanders as he does the analysis of the versions that the war had and the experiences of the victims of
the war. The characters in the war story do not deal with the favoritism that is attached to the emotions

life after the war that needs one to have an avoidance on the wrong things

  • 2. Lab Report On The Reaction Time Nicholas Durazo KINE2202 section 002 Lab Report 1 Introduction The reaction time (RT) of students was measured in the experiment to determine whether light or sound stimulus initiates a quicker response time. The question of whether or not RT was related to movement time (MT) was also challenged. Each student performed two test in random order; one testing the reaction time of a red light stimulus, or visual reaction time (VRT); and the other testing the reaction time of a beeping sound stimulus, or auditory reaction time (ART). The student completed the VRT trial by simply receiving the stimulus and pressing a button. The student placing and holding their hand on a button starts the ART trial. Once the student receives the stimulus (beep) they press the adjacent button as fast as they can. The ART trial does not only include the data of the RT, but also the data from the MT. Having previous knowledge that light travels faster than sound; one can predict that VRT is faster than ART. The prediction that MT is independent upon RT can be made with the thought that there are so many opposing variables that could affect the MT of an individual unrelated RT such as old age Methods In the experiment, 80 students were randomly separated into groups of 2 to write down the data from the test for the other individual. The VRT was measured by pressing a button once the student had seen the stimulus. The reaction time data would simply show up on the screen once the student completed ... • 3. Charles Mingus Research Paper Charles Mingus Charles Mingus was born on 22 April 1922 in Los Angeles, California. His father joined the army in 1915 after a frustrating career in the post office. His mother died only five months after Mingus was born. The times were hard in Los Angeles, as more and more poor people migrated into the city, and the small suburb of Watts turned into a black ghetto inside of a single decade. But young Mingus was pretty much protected from all the social pressure. His family was basically middle class. His father has remarried, and Mingus step mother had soon taken an active role in his education. Mamie Carson Mingus encouraged her step children to take an interest in music. This has soon taken shape in the form of violin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was already trying to work out alternative techniques of working with his musicians. He would teach them his music by playing it for them, and would take a more active role in directing the band. By the end of his teens, Mingus had become proficient in music theory, and had a vast knowledge of music, classical and Jazz. Among his influences are Duke, Wagner, Strauss, Debussy. This becomes evident in the fact that most of Mingus music is programmatic and quite on the romantic side. Staying on the west coast, Mingus began playing gigs and on recording dates. His first high profile exposure was on a recording with the Illinois Jacquet band. In this recording a few solo spots showed Mingus to be an innovative bassist, playing double stops, jumping octaves, counter melodies and with a sound that was well ahead of his time. While developing his own style, Mingus was still composing and trying to keep his own band together by doing gigs. This turned out to be quite hard and depressed Mingus almost to the point of being institutionalized. Around 1947 Mingus started playing more luxurious gigs, and finally had been given a steady job with the Lion Hampton band, where he was featured as a soloist. This led to more and more people calling him, a better income and more motivation to play his own music. By 1953 he has advanced well beyond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Issues Raised by the Growth of Manchester and the... Manchester is a city in England that experienced tremendous growth between the 1750 s and 1850 s. The population grew from 18,000 in 1750 to over 300,000 by the census of 1851. This growth called for more homes and factories to be built in order to support the growing population. With the constructing of more factories to support the rise in population came the growth of industry and manufacturing. The growth of the city, along with these factories, brought about several issues other than the manufacturing of valuable goods. The overcrowding from the population growth and the smog, smoke, and other toxic waste from the factories brought about the issue of pollution and bad living conditions. This reaction shows how he thinks that the growth of manufacturing in Manchester is the basis for the improvement and the wealth of the whole country of England. Correspondingly, there is an assortment of ways to analyze this media to further understand the reason behind having meaning in literature in addition to the recipients responses to these specific meanings. In particular, one method used to examine media, as well as its ongoing objective in both classic and contemporary society, is Kenneth Burke s dramatic pentad. In response to evaluating narratives from divergent perspectives, the pentadic analysis is composed of five parts: agent, scene, act, agency, and purpose. For instance, by applying this analyzation technique to the 1991 Howard Zieff film My Girl it can be illustrated through which means these five elements create value in a fictional composition. Specifically, My Girl is primarily an agent based film focusing on Vada s Sultenfuss exploration of life through the means of death. However, Vada s circumstances of her mother s passing during childbirth and father s house run funeral parlour creates a narrative focused on purpose by being the initial reason Vada has an obsession with demise and disease. From the beginning, it is demonstrated that although Vada clearly has an infatuation with death she does not truly understand it. Compare the structures of Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells There are two different types of cells; prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Both cells have differences, including the shape and size of the cell. Prokaryote cells are found in bacteria such as E coli, Streptococcus and Staphylococcus, whilst eukaryote cells are found in plants, animals and fungi. Eukaryotic cells have many components which lead to the cell having a much more complex structure and are larger in size, measuring between 10 and 100 micrometres in diameter. Prokaryotic cells, on the other hand, are much smaller, measuring between 0.2 and 2 micrometres and having a much simpler structure. The two cells share similarities such as; containing DNA, ribosomes and cytoplasms. Interspecific competition is a form of competition where two different species compete for the same resource in an ecosystem. Levels of interspecific competition and how they will effect the plants within the habitat is highly dependent on nutrient availability. (Aerts)We used the Phaseolus vulgaris as our control and Raphanus sativa as the competition plant. The easy to grow nature of the pinto bean allowed for accurate analysis of results to better understand how interspecies competition affects plants. Our hypothesis is that the more competition present in the immediate environment, the smaller and weaker the pinto bean plant will grow to be. A plant with more competition, has less nutrients available to be absorbed, causing it to grow less successfully. Competition results in a plant s inability to maximize both growth rate and nutrient retention. She thought about jumping, escaping reality, but instead turned and stepped away, dragging the fabric of her puffed up, white dress with her. Memories of her mother started to flood in her mind, drowning her with unpleasant reflections. She wondered if she would be able to make it through the rest of the day. Summer was approaching, Megan could tell by the way the warmth of the sun danced across her skin. One by one, they exited the classroom, made their way down the once colorful halls, and then out the doors to greet whoever was picking them up that day. Megan searched the crowd of parents, sprinting towards her father who was standing with his arms wide open. How was your day Meg? • 29. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Great Influenza The Great Influenza Rhetorical Analysis Essay Attention Getting Device: John Barry, in his writing, The Great Influenza, he states, To be a scientist requires not only intelligence and curiosity, but passion, patience, creativity, self sufficiency, and courage. It is not the courage to venture into the unknown. It is the courage to accept indeed, embrace uncertainty (Barry 2). During all eras of time, scientists have endured enormous amounts of adversity. Scientists have had to maintain a wide variety of skills in several different areas to assist them in different circumstances that they endure. Scientists must have persistence, due to their main activity being trial and error. This means that once they have failed, they most certainly have to be willing to try it again. A scientist also must posses acceptance, as there will be times when they receive results that are not their predictions. Scientist must obtain acceptance to come to terms with the results found in their laboratory. In John Barry s The Great Influenza, he utilizes metonymy and rhetorical questioning to characterize scientific research. Topic sentence: John Barry uses metonymies to relate a scientist s work to an easier understood scenario. In the middle of his writing, Barry states, A shovel can dig up dirt but cannot penetrate rock. Would a pick be best, or would dynamite be better or would dynamite be too indiscriminately destructive? If the rock is impenetrable, if dynamite would destroy what one is looking for, is there another way of getting information about what the rock holds? (Barry 5). This statement is able to display the use of metonymy in several ways. This can be seen as the statement is comparing a shovel, pick, and dynamite to different tactics that a scientist would use. Also, the statement is comparing a rock to an item or element that possibly holds the information the scientist is seeking. Barry uses the substitution of these words to help the reader gain a better understanding on the work of a scientist. Barry mentions words such as shovel , pick , and dynamite to describe the several various methods that a scientist must consider when taking action (Barry 5). Thus showing, the difficulty ... This rule caused much controversy among fans, players, and league executives. I believe players should spend at least one year in college before declaring for the NBA draft. Ideally, the performance of the war is a representation of an important part of the human life as he tries to work through the traumas of life as well as the creative process during the occurrence of the war. The main question that is raised by the story is how the writer uses the memories of the war as the primary tools of the actualization.
