Managing Performance with Transformational Leadership
Managing Performance with Transformational Leadership JLB Enterprises is experiencing low
employee motivation that has effected their job performance and productivity. This decline is having a
negative impact on the company financially. Conley (2013) explains that there are only three
relationships that one can have with their work: a job, a career, or a calling. The differences varying on
the degree of job satisfaction, internal motivation, and job performance. Job satisfaction comes from
the attitude that employees have towards their work. There is a close relationship between the degree
of satisfaction and the motivation level of employees. Explaining that if there is a lack of motivation
in the workplace, it is likely due to a lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leaders transform followers by increasing their awareness of the importance of task outcomes, and to
put their own self interests aside for the sake of the organization. Because of this influence, trust and
respect are felt for the leader and they feel motivated to go beyond what they normally would do.
Transformational leaders work to empower and uplift followers so they are dedicated and enthusiastic
(Yukl, 1989). According to Burns (1978), transformational leaders try to raise the awareness of
followers by appealing to higher ideals and values. They aim to elevate them to higher ideals. Grant
explains the importance of leaders articulating meaningful visions that connect to core values and
suggests leaders take steps to ensure dialogue is not simply rhetoric. If a leader sounds insincere or
lacking in credibility, the employees will not believe in the message or be motivated to be involved.
Employees need to believe and feel connected to the vision and goals of the organization. It is
suggested when employees are exposed to the people benefiting from their contributions, the impact is
more tangible and that much more motivating. Studies have shown the perception of task significance
among employees enhances their motivation and effort (Belle, 2014). Nurturing this perception by
incorporating it within the corporate culture further strengthens the bond and meaningfulness.

My Behavior Modification Project
Waking up in the morning, weather it for school or work, is something most people struggle with, so I
chose it for my behavior modification project. Every morning when I get up for school I find it hard to
stay awake. Ether after my alarm or after i m woken up I usually fall back to sleep. This could be the
result of staying up to late, but I usually get to bed at a good time. My goal going into this project was
to be able to get up and stay up at the end of the modification. I feel that this could be achieved it just
might take more than three days. To start off collecting the baseline data every morning after I woke
up I recorded my data. Which were how long it took me to get up, and how about how many times I
fell back to sleep. I chose

Comparison Of Doxorubicin And BV
There is no cure for HIV, but there are treatments to enable most people with the virus to live a long
and healthy life.
If anyone think he has been exposed to the virus within the last 72 hours (three days), anti HIV
medication post exposure prophylaxis may stop him becoming infected.
The quicker PEP is started the better The longer the wait, the less chance of it being effective. But the
description is not accurate. PEP is a month long treatment, which has serious side effects and is not
guaranteed to work. The treatment involves taking the same drugs prescribed to people who have
tested positive for HIV.
If you are diagnosed with HIV, you will have regular blood tests to monitor the progress of the virus
before starting treatment.

HIV infected patients. Macronutrient supplementation can be useful in treating malnutrition and

Analysis Of The Rock By Peter Blume
Intention:
If you re anything like me and you see this painting of The Rock by Peter Blume (1944), you may
wonder what in the world is going on in the picture. At our first look, we see the obvious; the
enormous rock Peter Blume placed right in the center. After looking at the scenery going on, I think
that the placement and size of the rock is proportioned that way as a sign of it being significant. The
way I see it, the monument plays an important role when it comes down to determining why there are
so many things going on at once in the painting. With the comparison of the details of the hard
working people to the broken rock, half built building, and the smoke, I will establish the reasons of
why this picture shows both destruction and loyalty and the ways destruction in this painting also
results in uniting the people working.
Thesis/Claim:
The significance of the monumental rock placed right smack in the core of the painting, is the reason
as to why the workers will be united by the desturction that occured to them.
Breaking it Down, Part 1:
The most coherent pieces of evidence that show the rock is represented as a monument and the
workers are there because of it are the proportion and how everyone is working hard around it.
In terms of the placement, the rock was positioned to be right smack in the middle of this community
balanced on a couple of woods. It s strange to see how it is placed because since it is balanced on
unalligned chunks of wood, I

Essay On George Washington And Alexander Hamilton
Throughout the history there have been many important people that have help built what we know as
the United States. During their time there were a lot of events that defined these characters to become
the great leaders that they were. In specific George Washington and Alexander Hamilton are the
reason we have some of our commodities and rights nowadays. They went through a lot of criticism
and hard work all for the good of everyone, but hard work pays off; this is why both of these
important characters are in the faces of our current currency.
The Washington administration faced many challenges, the Articles of confederation had many flaws
which brought problems. The new nation government was thought to be weak, one reason being that
the articles of confederation only gave a one house legislature. Which meant that the 13 states had
only one vote on any lawmaking rules and in order for it to pass at least 9 had to be for it. The nation s
debt was also a challenge faced but federalist Alexander Hamilton used his intelligence to use it to his
advantage and to strengthen the power of the federal government. Hamilton came up with Report on

burn when applied to the skin and usually was deadly because of how severe the burn would be. The
protest of the taxes became more violent to a point where they killed a federal officer. At this point
Washington reaction was to put an end to this rebellion, and ended up sending militia to end

Some Ways the Enviornment Affects Human Health Essay
Some Ways That The Environment Affects Human Health?
Air Pollution
Air pollution is one obvious environmental health threat in OECD countries, contributing to a number
of illnesses, such as asthma and in some cases leading to premature death. Of particular concern is the
fact that children are more vulnerable to air pollution than adults, and increased rates of infant
mortality have been recorded in highly polluted areas.
Concerns about the impact of air pollution on health and the economy have resulted in measures to
mitigate emissions of the most harmful pollutants, such as particle pollution (acids, organic chemicals,
metals, and soil or dust particles) and ozone, which affects the respiratory system. Despite national

When power outages occur during emergencies such as hurricanes or winter storms, the use of
alternative sources of fuel or electricity for heating, cooling, or cooking can cause CO to build up in a
home, garage, or camper and poison the people and animals inside. Generators, grills, camp stoves, or
other gasoline, propane, natural gas, or charcoal burning devices should never be used inside a home,
basement, garage, or camper or even outside near an open window or window air conditioner.
Molds
Molds are fungi that can be found both indoors and outdoors. No one knows how many species of
fungi exist but estimates range from tens of thousands to perhaps three hundred thousand or more.
Molds grow best in warm, damp, and humid conditions, and spread and reproduce by making spores.
Mold spores can survive harsh environmental conditions, such as dry conditions, that do not support
normal mold growth. Some people are sensitive to molds. For these people, exposure to molds can
cause symptoms such as nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, wheezing, or skin irritation. Some people, such
as those with serious allergies to molds, may have more severe reactions. Severe reactions may occur
among workers exposed to large amounts of molds in occupational settings, such as farmers working
around moldy hay. Severe reactions may include fever and shortness of breath. Some people with
chronic lung illnesses, such as obstructive lung disease, may develop

Loyalty In Macbeth
The Tragedy of Macbeth is a play by the famous playwright, William Shakespeare. William
Shakespeare s plays are known for his character s dramatic aspects and how they are portrayed in the
play towards the reader or onlooker. Macbeth illustrates importance of Kingship and Natural Order. In
Macbeth the notion of honor is of one s word and loyalty to one s superior, in this case the king, King
Duncan. Despite of this, Macbeth displays defective relationships that loyalty is essential to the
relationship. By killing his comrade and friend, Banquo, Macbeth shows that he is untrustworthy and
his egocentric mind. By killing his king and relative, Duncan, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth reveal their
ambitiousness toward the hierarchy. Upon hearing the report of Macbeth becoming the Thane of
Cawdor and the prophecy that he will become king, Lady Macbeth prays to the spirits, ...Come, you

the assassins, Fleance flees from the scene and lives. Even though Fleance lived Macbeth says, He s

Analysis Of Ace Ventura And School Of Rock
In both, Ace Ventura and School of Rock, comedy is proposed from the outset; even the title and
movie cover are comedic. Setting up pretend worlds creates distances for the audience allowing them
to laugh at the comedies. In Ace Ventura, the main character, Ace Ventura, is a pet detective hired to
find a missing dolphin who is kidnapped before the Superbowl. This concept suggest absurdity at both
the ridiculousness of someone kidnapping a dolphin and a private pet detective being hired to find it.
This concept also sets up a lot of jokes throughout the movie; Ace has a special bond with animals, an
ability to communicate with animals, and in many ways acts like an animal, especially a dog. At no
point is the concept of the movie taken seriously by the audience so the outrageousness of Ace s
character and his actions are cartoonish.
This is a very different tone from School of Rock, where the movie is set in a somewhat more realistic
world that the audience is able to identify with. School of Rock creates comedy through a fish out of
water scenario where the immature, rock and roll loving, Dewey impersonates his roommate, Ned,
and becomes a substitute teacher for ten year olds. The scheming Dewey devises a plan to create a
rock band out of his class and win a contest, setting up multiple comedic approaches.
The role of Ace Ventura seems to be written especially for Jim Carrey as it takes advantage of all of
his physical comedy gifts. Jim Carrey honed his comedic

when it involves some level of collaboration and cooperation between multiple parties. Since my
research is a global issue, national and international collaboration is necessary. I have been fortunate
to collaborate with over a dozen labs and many institutions to date, including University of Munich
(Germany), Oxford University (UK), University of the Ryukyus (Japan) with different departments,
Rutgers University (USA) and University of Toronto (Canada) and these collaborations will be
continued after joining at the University of Montreal. My preferred approach to collaboration is to co
advise graduate students or postdocs with my collaborators; this allows the student or postdoc to be
embedded in the environmental field, while providing them with deep access to our professional
expertise. I have already trained and mentored many MS and PhD students during my tenures at the
above mentioned institutes. I am currently mentoring several graduate research projects, which
reflects my dedication to training the next generation in resolving the environmental problems. If I get

Las Meninas And Pablo Picasso

ZOOM
Las MeninasLas Meninas is a famous painting by Diego Velazquez and has had 58 renditions by
Pablo Picasso. Both painters are known for their remarkable paintings each from different eras. Before
I go on to dissect the paintings, I ll give you some key background information on the two artists.
Velazquez was born in 1599 and died on August 6th, 1660 whereas Picasso was born on October 25th,
1881 and died on April 8th, 1973. Therefore you can tell that there will of course be some differences
in their paintings especially the meaning behind them because they were born in separate time periods.
Both were fairly old, Velazquez was 61 when he passed away and Picasso was 92. Velazquez was 57
when he made this painting so his life was coming close to an end, whether he knew it or not. It could
have influenced his perspective on the painting. Picasso was 70 when he did his first rendition of Las
Meninas so by that time he had done a lot of artwork and still had some life left, so his experience and
time could have influenced it as well. Despite the time difference between Velazquez s painting and
this version of Picasso s painting, there are some similarities. The backgrounds are both black, maybe
it was a good background color for both of them. Velazquez could have done it to represent the room
the princess was in. Picasso could have done it because of the colors he used for the princess since
they were mainly bright like white and yellow. In both

Summary Of A Sick Day For Amos Mcgee
Megan Fortas
Professor Cohoon
ENGL 3401 002
25 September 2017
A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead A Sick Day for Amos McGee is about a friendly
zookeeper, who always goes to the zoo, on the number five bus every day to make time for his friends,
which are the elephant, the tortoise, the penguin, the rhinoceros, and the owl. He plays chess with the
elephant, runs races with the tortoise, sits with the penguin, always gives his handkerchief to the
rhinoceros, and reads to the owl. Then, one day the zookeeper gets sick and he is not able to go to the
zoo to his friends. So, his friends left the zoo on the number five bus and visited his best friend at
home to make him feel better. A Sick day for Amos McGee won the Caldecott Medal in 2011 for the
illustrations that were done by Erin E. Stead, who is the wife of the author, Philip C. Stead. She made
a speech on her winning, saying A picture book allows a child ownership of art even if it s just for the
two weeks they check it out of the library. That book is theirs. I m not sure any other art for replicates
that feeling. She is right, every picture book that a person picks up, buys, or checks out is a piece of art
because all picture book illustrations are different and unique.
Illustrations in pictures are meant to make the use of the book for entertainment. The illustrations that
Erin C. Stead uses in her all of her books are woodblock or also known as woodcut printing and then
she draws on the top of the prints in pencil to finish the illustration. This type of illustration was used
in A Sick Day for Amos McGee. Woodblock printing is a technique that is used to print text, images or
patterns. In an interview talking about the illustrations in her and her husband s book, with MacMillan
Children s on YouTube, the colors that are in the book are stamped onto the page by a piece of wood.
She carves each piece of wood into each of the animals that are in the book. After she does that, she
rolls the paint onto the piece of wood and presses it to the paper. The colors that the illustrator s use
was blue, yellow, green, gray/black, orange, red, brown, and white. Red, yellow, and oranges, are
colors used to make the book suggest it has warmth, cheerfulness,

Hurston Vernacular
One of the most unique aspects of Hurston s novel is her juxtaposition of vernacular and non
vernacular speech. This deliberate division is clearly drawn from the beginning: the first words of the
book read, Ships at a distance have every man s wish on board, while Janie s first words are, Aw,
pretty god, Ah m tryin to soak some uh de tiredness and de dirt outa mah feet (1, 4). As the narrator
herself explains, there are many moments where the character don t know the words for all this, but
[they know] the feeling (80). Illustrating the chasm between what characters feel and how they
express (or don t express) themselves, this theme of unvoiced thought versus spoken word plays a
crucial role in the novel. Through the distinct creation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the novel, the horizon symbolizes one s personal volitions and wishes, illustrating the
potential for a better life. Just as the literal horizon seems to connect the sky and the earth, so Hurston
s metaphorical horizon connects the life that people lead and the life they want to lead. The
importance of free will and therefore, of freely dreaming and wishing, is a central theme in Their Eyes
were Watching God, so important that the acting symbol representing one s personal ambition acts as
figurative bookends to the novel. The book begins by saying that [wishes] sail forever toward the
horizon, and ends by describing that same horizon being pulled in like a great fish net (1, 193).
Through the horizon, Hurston continually highlights the importance of that great American ideal of
pursuing personal

To advance to this level of management, the healthcare administrator must show evidence of
professional skills and judgment through performance of key competencies in being a leader.
Healthcare administrators must first be comfortable and confident in managing themselves in order to
be an effective leader. Team members will align their trust with an administrator who leads by
example. Important skills to manage include: their time with tasks and people, their responsiveness
and follow through on the challenges, their capability to be relational and motivational with a positive
presence, and the ability to recognize and validate the team members contributions to the overall
organizations goals and values. The healthcare administrator needs to continuously stay on top of
healthcare trends and management techniques to be adaptable in the growing and expanding role.
Leadership Styles Leadership styles are an important quality in healthcare administrators.
Transformational leadership is a popular style that is used to encourage the group to pursue innovative
and creative ideas and actions (Blanken, 2013, para. 42). Leaders engage, mentor, and motivate their
followers to change by utilizing the qualities that make them their leader, such as listening to them and
including them in the decision making process, and showing interest in their work day while
acknowledging their achievements and being honest (Giltinane, 2013). By treating the followers as

Psychodynamic Personality Theories
Introduction:
Personality is something every living, and mentally functioning human member of society has. Our
personalities are made up of our behaviours and the way in which we think, feel and act no two people
are exactly alike in personality. (Fletcher and Garton, 2015).
Personality plays a major role in psychology as it is constantly being talked about in terms of
developing it, measuring it and how it can influence the way we interact with others.
Theorists have identified different traits and characteristics as a way to categorise different personality
types. Within psychology there is three theories relating to Personality; humanistic, psychodynamic
and trait. These perspectives were developed by different psychological theorists, in which this
presentation we ll attempt to draw further into. In particular, this presentation will focus on humanistic
and psychodynamic personality perspectives. (Fletcher and Garton, 2015)
Theory 1: Freud s Psychodynamic View
Psychodynamics is one of the three major personality perspectives and leads people to believe that
human thoughts, feelings and actions are caused by a relationship between three elements of the mind
the id, the ego and the super ego. Our minds are divided into three levels, conscious awareness,
preconscious awareness and unconscious awareness. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

idea of laying on couch and talking to a psychologist about one s mental health comes from Freud s
famous couch and his use of analysing behaviour. Freud is one of the leading theorists of
psychodynamics and had one of the major inputs into the ideas it was based on. (McLeod,

The Energy Source Of Energy
In an era where fossil fuels are the dominant source of energy, environmentalists and scientists are
looking for alternative energy sources in the fear that fossil fuels will sooner or later become
consumed by our energy needs. In the hunt to find a strong alternative energy source, scientists have
reverted back to an old formula E=MC2. The indicated formula was first thought up by Albert
Einstein to describe a part of general relativity in the paper Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon
Its Energy Content? Furthermore, in his publication Albert Einstein explains that mass and kinetic
energy are proportionally equal. Meaning you can transfer energy into mass and vice versa. In
addition if you are able to transfer mass into energy that mass will be multiplied by the speed of light
(C) squared, meaning that a little mass can turn into a lot of energy. Moreover, Einstein s reasoning for
using the speed of light is because atoms when separated travel the speed of light thus carrying a lot of
energy. At the time Einstein was working on trying to find ways to separate and or fuse atoms in order
to gain energy and put his formula to use. However, today we have found two different ways of doing
so in what we call nuclear fusion and nuclear fission.
Nuclear fusion has been around since the big bang, as it is the process that powers stars just like ours
and is how our universe continues to grow. Moreover, nuclear fusion occurs when two or more atoms
fuse together at very high

What Is The Weaknesses Of The Modern World
The author separates the book into four main parts, The Modern World , Resources , The Third World
and Organization and Ownership . Each section touches on different ideas of economy, philosophy
and the environment, through the common lens of microeconomics, which champions alleviation of
problems through the scaling down from the current mega economies to village sized economies.
Further subsections incorporate ideas such as education, energy and the different scales of
organizations. Schumacher ends the book by relating all the aforementioned topics back to each other
and calling urgency to reprioritize to avoid an imminent downfall. This is an extremely strong book,
with many evident strengths. Written in an idealistic and conversational tone, the writer calls on many
issues that are still relevant over four decades later. Issues like over use of resources, the dangers of
static technology, and human s obsession over materialism are still very real problems that have only
worsened since Schumacher first called attention to them. While most books that were written in the
1970s about technology and economy run the risk of becoming outdated very, Schumacher has done
an excellent job of addressing the root of the issues, including materialistic consumption versus
happiness, which seem to be timeless. On the issue of technology in particular, which was still at its
beginning stages of developing, the author declared it acted like a foreign body in which the human

The Marion s medium shot, showing her sitting alone in a hotel room, overshadows a sombre mood in
the place as if something will happen at any moment. The music, which began right after Marion and

however, seems to be relieved as the music is stopped when Marion flushed the toilet with her notes as

The Meaning Of Jacob
The Meaning of Jacob
Jacob, a simple name, is easy to say, easy to spell, and easy to remember. Jacob comes from the
Hebrew origin, Supplanter . Supplanter means one who follows another s heel. My name fits me. To
me, Jacob means someone who is smart, funny, and outgoing. I am very smart, at least I think so. In
real life, I am not that funny, but some people think that I am funny. I am sometimes outgoing because
if I really want to be someone s friend I just go up and ask. But I love my name. My dad wanted me to
be Rocco, but my mom wouldn t allow it. On the day of my birth, my dad was going to change it.
Birth certificate in hand, he was going to change my name to Rocco, but my mom would dislike the
name and dislike my dad even more, so he kept it. But I do love my name. My son s middle name
would be Jacob if I even have a son. Jacob is a good name. It fits who I am.
Although, I can see Jacob in a different way. In a bad way. Like There is a disturbance in the force
kind of feeling. The bad Jacob can mean things like menacing, mean, and unforgiving. Personally, I
can see how I can be one of those things. I am definitely not menacing, definitely no unforgiving
because I forgive people all the time. No one thinks that I am menacing because everybody tells me
that I don t look or sound intimidating. But I am mean. When I am angry or mad, I stay that way for a
long time. I wish I wasn t like that, but I am. There is nothing that change that. Numerous times, I
have tried

Essay on Causes of World War I
World War One, also known as The Great War and The First Modern War was a very large scale war
lasting over four years, involving nations from around the world and ultimately killing more than
twenty million people. The cause of this war cannot be accredited to one single event but rather an
assassination of a nation s leader and many political philosophies including militarism, nationalism,
imperialism and the formation of alliances. On Sunday June twenty eighth 1914 in Sarajevo Bosnia
the Archduke of Austria Hungary, Francis Ferdinand, was shot and killed by an eighteen year old
Bosnian Serb nationalist by the name of Gavrilo Princip. It is said that princip was a member of a
secret terror society whose main goal was to untie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many European nations had colonies which helped to gather raw materials from foreign places and
extend their rule among others. France and Britain had many colonies in parts on north Africa and
Asia but Germany and Italy did not. They wanted to be a colonial empire as well fueling the fight for
colonies among these four nations. The alliances of this war are what made it a World War . Before the
war there were two main alliances and they were the Triple Alliance consisting of Germany, Austria
Hungary and Italy and the Triple Entente which had Britain, France and Russia. This all changed
when Ferdinand was murdered. Austria declared war on Serbia, causing Russia to declare war on
Austria. Through Germany s ties with Austria they then declared war on Russia. France had
previously agreed to help Russia so Germany declared war on France. Later when Germany invaded
Belgium, Britain declared war on Germany due to its ties with Belgium. Italy then eventually joined
Britain, France and Russia. America was later brought into the war in 1917 by its connections with
England. So during the war the alliance systems changed to the Central Powers consisting of
Germany, Austria Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire and the Allied Powers which were
Britain, France, Russia, Serbia, United States and, Japan to a small degree. World War one was very

The Defense Of Socrates In Plato s The Apology
Socrates, the father of western philosophy, was an incredible apologist. While he never wrote any
books of his own, his teaching is filtered through the ages from his apprentices. Plato, one of his
students, wrote The Apology describing Socrates defense against the accusations that led him to be on
trial. The story begins with Socrates opening with an appeal to the jury. His defense is simply his skills
of rhetoric. Instead of bringing evidence, as seen in a normal court of law today, he decides to defend
himself with logic and reason. He shows cool composure in facing prosecution from a jury that was
biased against him. In the Apology, Socrates demonstrates his knowledge, courage, and fortitude when
facing his accusers and responding to their challenges but also shows his natural tendency to be blunt
and abrasive. Socrates was put on trial with a jury of his peers who were already biased against him.
He could have fled, but he chose to face them. This showed fortitude. He was charged with not
recognizing the gods, inventing deities, and corrupting the people of Athens. His first and most
important counter was the fact that the Oracle of Delphi called him the wisest man. He asked whether
there was anyone wiser than I. The Pythia replied that no one was wiser (Plato, 4). If the Greeks were

He finally says that the unexamined life is not worth living (Plato, 20). What exactly does this
statement mean? It means if a person is living a life without truly striving for wisdom and understand
and making sure they realize what life is really about, their life is without meaning. Socrates flips the
accusations. He essentially attacks his accusers about not having enough knowledge and not being
willing enough to understand what real knowledge is. He claims that without self examination, life is
without purpose. He claims that these men do self examine. This statement seals his

Social Criticism In The Chimney Sweeper
With reference to both texts discuss the use of social criticism in the chimney sweeper
The Chimney Sweeper from Songs of Innocence in 1789 and The chimney sweeper from songs of
experience in 1794 both are written by William Blake who is the one of the first writers of the
Romantic Period. The first poem is indescribable litter chimney sweepers who hold hope in their
hearts and feel warm although they are abandoned by their parents and are living a miserable life in
the actual world. The second poem talks about the child who is unhappy and hopeless, what s worse

image that God could bring brightness life to poor people. This poem showed William s sympathy of
poor children who live in misery and suffering real life and criticized this dark society. Poet also tell
readers that be patient and wait for God to help people. In the second poem, William said that they
think they have done me no jury, and are gone to praise God and his Priest and King who make up a
heaven of our misery , which use irony to show that omnipotent and merciful God not only save the
litter chimney sweepers, but also associated priests and King to make a heaven above their painful.
Poet does not praise the God; instead, it criticizes the God, Priests and King. On the other hand, he
also criticizes the dark religion and politics at that time. Poet fee angry because that although children
are trying to become happy, society take away their pure! Poet also pointed out that people are being
faced with Religious oppression and political oppression at that time. Thus, these two poems are
talking about the same characters, the huge difference of these two poems is that one poem has hope,
the other is hopeless.

The topic I have chosen for this term paper is quot;Ex Soviet Bloc s

have chosen this topic because nuclear power is not only an environmental issue but also a severe
health issue for the citizens around the nuclear site and also for the rest of the country and world
because of food products that could be grown there and used as market items.

Forty years later, they had found no evidence that there were any genetic problems in any of the
survivors children. In contrast, Yuri E.
Dubrova of the University of Leicester in England and his colleagues claim that they have found
evidence that germline mutation rates in humans can be increased by ionizing radiation. Dubrova s
team compared specific gene segments taken from the blood of people in 79 families that lived in a
exposed area surrounding
Chernobyl. Also they studied 105 members from unexposed families in the United
Kingdom. All children in both groups were born 8 years after the melt down.
The researchers studied gene segments known as minisatellite loci, repeating patterns of roughly 5 to
45 bases, the units that make up DNA. No one knows the genetic purpose, if any, of minisatellites, but
their variation from person to person enables scientists to use them as the basis of so called genetic
fingerprinting .(Dubrova )Because a child s DNA represents a combination of germline DNA from
both parents, any sequence in the child that does not have either parents DNA in it, must result from a
germline mutation. Dubrova s team therefore looked for minisatelite sequences in the children s DNA
that did not appear in either of the parents DNA. They found twice the number of mutations in
children of exposed Belarus parents as in U.K. children. We are 99 percent sure that these are real
germline mutations and they have been passed from parent to child, (Dubrova

Examples Of Binary Opposition In The Hunger Games
Binary opposition is not only a vital concept in linguistics, but it also plays a significant role in the
fields of anthropology, sociology, literature and art as it is believed that things only mean something in
relation to one another, like the ever existing concept of good and evil. They serve as labels to
identifying certain ideas but what makes them opposites is that fact that they cannot coexist and this
creates boundaries between groups, leading to discrimination, inequality and injustice. This is very
much present in The Hunger Games in which two opposite groups are created based on the same idea
of presence and absence (of power) and the weaker group fears the stronger and ends up obeying
whatever the dominant has to say. This not only creates prejudices, bias and disparity between groups
but also leads to the us and them distinction, where the dominant ... Show more content on

As mentioned in the very first chapter of this study, the type of control that the Capitol has is
technological in nature. From the very beginning of the story, we are told that it is not safe to talk
against the Capitol as they have eyes and ears everywhere. Katniss Everdeen, the narrator, mentions it
that she goes to hunt in the forest to keep her family from dying and even in the middle of nowhere
(Quote 18, line 3), she worries somebody might overhear her (Quote 18, line 4). For this reason, she
explains that she learned (Quote 18, line 7) not to talk about the Capitol in public and avoid tricky
topics such as the reaping, or food shortages or the Hunger Games (Quote 18, line 11 12). She is so
cautious that she tries to turn her features into an indifferent mask so that no one could ever read her
thoughts (Quote 18, line 8). From this example, we can understand how malicious the nature of

Reflection For Student Observation
September 29,2017: I was super nervous and excited today, this was the day that I had been long wait
for. Today I went to go ask if I could do my student observation hours at Vermont. When I went I was
confused because everyone in the office was telling me to go to different places and I was told to go
and return the next day. I was told that the Vice Principal had to assign me a classroom and that she
was not there today. October 3,2017: I went and met with the Vice Principal and she assigned me a
Kindergarten classroom. I was super nervous, I was finally able to be in a classroom! I was exhausted
even though I didn t help in the classroom. I felt overwhelmed, and I was questioning myself if this
was what I wanted to do. I talked to the teachers and let them know that I was not in the credential
program yet and that I was in my second year, and that if they were okay with me observing their
classroom and they told me I could. October 4,2017: I went to observer in the Kindergarten classroom.

Blood lead and zinc levels were examined among workers having occupational exposure to these

American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienist (ACGIH) which is set as 30µg/dL

Here two assumptions may take birth from this study either zinc has genomic stability properties
directly or it does so by reducing the absorption of lead in the body which in turn may prevent DNA
damage. Several mechanisms involved in genotoxic response for example destabilization of chromatin
may indirectly involve DNA damage (Johansson and Pellicciari, 1988) and impair repairing process
(Hartwig et al. 1990). It is believed that not a single factor could be responsible for genotoxicity but
many factors including dietary could markedly influence the hostility of genotoxic agents (Hayatsu et
al. 1988; Fenech and Rinaldy, 1994). Diets rich in antioxidant can negatively reduce the risk of several
type of human cancer (Byers and Perry 1992). In addition, workers exposed to chemicals show a
significant decrease in chromosome aberration frequency when given multivitamin in dietary
supplements (Lazutka 1996; Emerit et al. 1997). Earlier studies regarding clastogenic effects of lead
are contradictory. Clastogenic effects of lead were shown in the form of chromosome gaps and breaks
by 1% lead acetate in culture mouse leucocytes (Muro and Goyer 1969). Lead acetate was also shown
to increase the frequency of chromosome aberration on human lymphocytes treated in vitro (Beek and

Le Corbusier s Self Endorsed Edict, A State Of Mind For...
Moving towards the end of the passage, Le Corbusier s final assertion in his self endorsed edict A state
of mind for conceiving mass production housing. Again one could argue Le Corbusier was inferring
more so to a level of thought where there is no pre conceived notion of what a home or tower is, or
even can be, only the task at hand and a mind to solve it. For instance, the Dom Ino system (Fig 4.1)
he established in 1910 while touring the AEG factory you when applied rigorously and with strict
adherence to the mindset of mass production, will inevitably reach standardization no matter the
variation. This last tenet, In particular and much like modernism itself, can be interpreted in a
multitude of ways yet with adherence to something so prescribed as the earlier excerpt is it reinforces
his order for us to accept a design seemingly devoid of feeling or form, is to look at it as architecture,
but as a singular object part of a much larger whole that only is integrated on a much larger scale, in
doing so would solve the problem at hand and to not lose sight of that.
Le Corbusier wanted architecture to be the same the world over because he believed that there was a
correct way to build and only he knew what the solution was. The program of the International
Congress for Modern Architecture, of which Le Corbusier was the significant proponent, states:
Reforms are extended simultaneously to all cities, to all rural areas, across the seas. No exceptions.

Taiwanese divided among themselves. I was told that my mother s side of family have experienced the

Sayyid Qutb s Impact on Islam
2. Evaluate the impact on Islam of ONE significant person or school of thought.
Sayyid Qutb had a seemingly minimal impact throughout his life, but his teachings and ideology have
become of significant importance to the Islamic faith. However his views and thoughts of that are
somewhat extreme have lead some followers to form organizations which are involved with radical,
extreme and terrorist activities.
Qutb s teachings and commentary of Islamic teachings are seen to hold considerable authority and
significance to adherents of Islam. His main and most revered teachings included: the belief in Tawhid
(the oneness of God), the concept of Jahiliyya (pagan ignorance), jihad (struggle) and the need to

Thus it is evident, that Qutb s teachings in the ideal of jahiliyya were fundamental to the pathway that
Islam decided to follow, and did in fact promote the teachings of Islam and sustained growth.
Qutb was one of the most significant figures in the development of jihadi Salafi ideology. Qutb in true
Salafi style, reanalysed the Qur an to find new ideology. Qutb acknowledge that the contemporary
jama at (movement) would also encounter periods of weakness. Therefore he insisted that here was an
immediate need for a new movement. Qutb also constantly stated that there was a need for new
leadership. He claimed that the new leaders should engage in jihad (struggle) against jahiliyya, so that
a true Islamic state can be established. His teachings of jihad and the need to use force if the survival
of the Islam was under threat, is being used today out of his context of time by extreme terrorist
groups. Members of these radical groups say are not afraid to die for their cause because Qutb gave
them reason: For a pious life is a life of struggle or jihad for Islam, and struggle means martyrdom .
Qutb s actions, books and somewhat extreme teachings all greatly contributed to the revival of Islam.

Most Dangerous Game Vs The Most Dangerous Game

Pros And Cons Of Graffiti In Toronto
Whether or not graffiti is a form of artwork or vandalism has always been a subject for debate in
Toronto. In this article, I will tell you why graffiti is in fact a form of vandalism, and that we should
try to wipe out all form of graffiti in this city. Graffiti negatively impacts societies for several reasons.
First of all, removing graffiti from walls and other structures are draining our tax funds. Money that
could be used to build parks, community centers, and schools, are instead being used to clean graffiti.
In the U.S.A, cities such as Chicago and Phoenix spend millions upon millions of dollars on graffiti
cleanup. Children are also negatively influenced by graffiti. For example, if kids see that nothing is

There are many things that we, the people, can do. For example, we could form neighborhood watch
groups to catch anyone trying to vandalize one of our houses. We could also all have a fund raiser to
buy and install security cameras around the neighborhood. And if, by any chance, our homes and
structures do get vandalized, we could organize an event were all the residents of the neighborhood all
work together to clean the graffiti. Also, if a resident witnesses someone doing graffiti, they should
immediately call the authorities. Removal of graffiti within 24 48 hours is proven to decrease the
amount of graffiti in an area, so we mustn t wait or procrastinate. We should create a new bylaw,
which heavily punishes those who vandalize other people s property, because right now, under the
current bylaw, a graffiti artist will only have to either pay a small fine or clean up his graffiti. This
bylaw is too lenient, and in order to cleanse this city from graffiti we must inflict harsh punishment.
For example, we should make them pay a hefty fine, clean up their graffiti, take away their ID card,
strip them of their passport for a short while, and send them to jail for at least a month. This might
seem too harsh but after the first handful of graffiti artists go through this no

Penguin Monologue
One day, the penguin was flying around, looking for his dinner. As he was flying, he found an island,
where a old woman was weaving a basket. What s going to go in that basket? The penguin asked. It
will have some bread and clothes in it for my daughter. The woman replied. Where does your daughter
live? I can bring her the basket if you would like. Offered the penguin. Oh my, that would be
wonderful! Would you like to stay for awhile? I have some extra fish for my kitten, you can have it if
you would like. The penguin liked this idea. He agreed and waited for the woman to finish her basket.
A while later, the woman brought him a few fish. They were tiny, and not very tasty. It did not fill the
penguin s appetite. He wanted more; he didn t care what it was. A delicious smell came in his ... Show

I m sure she won t notice if I just have a piece... he thought. The penguin snuck into the kitchen and
picked up a piece of bread. Once he smelt it, he couldn t resist himself and took a bite. He was unable
to stop eating it once he started. How could something so simple like bread taste so good? The
penguin asked himself. Eventually, all of the woman s bread was gone. He soon realized this and felt
terrified. She would be infuriated at him! The penguin tried to fly away, but all of the bread had made
him too tired and he fell asleep, dreaming about the woman s bread.
In the morning, the woman walked in the kitchen to find all her bread missing! Oh no! She gasped,
waking the penguin. You ate my bread! The woman had a murderous look in her eye which terrified
the penguin. She grabbed him and threw him off the island, into the water, saying a string of words in
a different language. I have cursed you to a life in the water! You shall be more like a fish, with fins
and the inability to fly! And ever since, penguins have lived life in the water, not able to fly like the

Changes in Russia Captured in the Works of Anton Chekhov...
Anton Chekhov (1860 1904) was born a year before the emancipation of serfism in Russia took place.
Although he was the grandson of a serf, Chekhov was able to attend the medical school at the
University of Moscow and become a physician. Chekhov started writing in order to support his family
economically, becoming a master in drama and short stories. His literature is characterized by the use
of colloquial language which could be understood even by the less educated and recently liberated
serfs. Social change is the main theme in The Cherry Orchard , a four act play written in 1904. In this
play the different characters portray how changes in Russia after the emancipation of 1861 were
taking place and although the play is set several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, many peasants, although liberated, remained in their state of peasants following the old
regime. These men are symbolized by Firs, an old servant for whom freedom was insignificant. He
stays loyal, working in the Cherry Orchard as a serf since he had no other opportunities in life. Firs
and Lohpakin on one side contrast Madame Ranevsky and Gayef her brother. The first two portraying
two different ways in which emancipation affected peasants, and the last two, showing how the
emancipation affected Russian aristocracy.
The past is constantly mentioned by the characters in this play. Even the cherry orchard as property, is
a symbol of the Old Russian regime. The end of the Old Regime therefore, is portrayed by Chekhov
when at the end of the play Lohpakin becomes the owner of the estate and cuts the cherry orchard.
Chekhov, as a contemporary observer, uses his play to criticize some aspects of the emancipation of
1861. The message he leaves is that although the emancipation was an important step towards
freedom, it was not the only one to be made. This message, besides being given throughout the novel,
is also stated by Trofimov, an idealist student who realizes how far Russia is from achieving real
freedom. At the end of Act 2, Trofivom tells Anya, Madame Ranevskaya s 17 year old daughter: ...In
order to start living in the present, we first have to redeem our past, make an end of it, and we can only
do that through suffering... .
The play shows us

The Meaning Of When Worlds Collide
When Worlds Collide In order to describe the meaning of When Worlds Collide we must individually
address how each of the migrating European cultures, positively or negatively interacted with the
Native Americans. A collision being different then a merging already hints that the two worlds didn t
blend quite so peacefully, at least to begin with. In present day America there is very little native
American culture left standing and that can all be traced back to the eradication of Native American
culture by the Europeans. The first recorded interaction between Europeans and the Native American
(Tainos) was initiated by an Italian explorer by the name of Christopher Columbus. Under the funding
of the Spanish Monarchs, Columbus intended to travel westward in hope of finding an oceanic
passage to Asia for trade. When Columbus stumbled upon what we now know to have been the
Bahamas, he believed he had found the Indies and thus named the people he discovered Indians . He
went back to Europe bringing along some Tanios and convincing the monarchs he had found a
civilization worth plundering, and people naive enough to lead into slavery. When Columbus returned
to his discovery he found his Spanish crew dead, most likely due to the poor treatment the Tainos had
been receiving. Infuriated Columbus enslaved the people and within 28 years (1492 1520) he had
committed a genocide on the entire tribe. This was the start of a poor relationship between Europeans
and the Natives. Fast

The Sermon On The Mount ( And The Plain )
Inherent Value in the Sermon on the Mount (and the Plain) Critical analysis of Christian doctrine often
suggests overlapping principles concerning teachings. That is, the teachings of one individual, such as
a disciple of Christ are re interpreted and introduced by another, heightening discussion on historical
relevance, intent, ethical implications and methods of delivery. The Sermon on the Mount and the
Sermon on the Plain fall under this category of controversial interpretation. One is recognized as
essentially playing off the other, delivering the same message while delivering a new level of
interpretation. Literary interpretation of the gospel is ever changing due to the influential nature of the
modern environment, where current actions shape the initiatives of the past. While the common
understanding is that these sermons lack independence as one re introduces the theories taught in the
previous sermon, the theory requires further interpretation before formulating a conclusion on the
independent or collective nature of the sermons. As one examines Christian doctrine, common ground
or interpreting the same message throughout becomes a constant action. That is, disciples and
followers of Christ who spread the word to others are likely to deliver the same message, as the Word
of God acts as the founding origin for these teachings. Thus, differentiating between multiple
doctrines has become a formality initiated by literary scholars, who aim to establish different

Managing Performance with Transformational Leadership Managing Performance with Transformational Leadership JLB Enterprises is experiencing low employee motivation that has effected their job performance and productivity. This decline is having a negative impact on the company financially. Conley (2013) explains that there are only three relationships that one can have with their work: a job, a career, or a calling. The differences varying on the degree of job satisfaction, internal motivation, and job performance. Job satisfaction comes from the attitude that employees have towards their work. There is a close relationship between the degree of satisfaction and the motivation level of employees. Leaders transform followers by increasing their awareness of the importance of task outcomes, and to put their own self interests aside for the sake of the organization. Because of this influence, trust and respect are felt for the leader and they feel motivated to go beyond what they normally would do. Transformational leaders work to empower and uplift followers so they are dedicated and enthusiastic (Yukl, 1989). According to Burns (1978), transformational leaders try to raise the awareness of followers by appealing to higher ideals and values. They aim to elevate them to higher ideals. Grant explains the importance of leaders articulating meaningful visions that connect to core values and suggests leaders take steps to ensure dialogue is not simply rhetoric. If a leader sounds insincere or lacking in credibility, the employees will not believe in the message or be motivated to be involved. Employees need to believe and feel connected to the vision and goals of the organization. It is suggested when employees are exposed to the people benefiting from their contributions, the impact is more tangible and that much more motivating. Studies have shown the perception of task significance among employees enhances their motivation and effort (Belle, 2014). Nurturing this perception by incorporating it within the corporate culture further strengthens the bond and meaningfulness. Providing a unique corporate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis Of The Rock By Peter Blume Intention: If you re anything like me and you see this painting of The Rock by Peter Blume (1944), you may wonder what in the world is going on in the picture. At our first look, we see the obvious; the enormous rock Peter Blume placed right in the center. After looking at the scenery going on, I think that the placement and size of the rock is proportioned that way as a sign of it being significant. The way I see it, the monument plays an important role when it comes down to determining why there are so many things going on at once in the painting. With the comparison of the details of the hard working people to the broken rock, half built building, and the smoke, I will establish the reasons of why this picture shows both destruction and loyalty and the ways destruction in this painting also results in uniting the people working. Thesis/Claim: The significance of the monumental rock placed right smack in the core of the painting, is the reason as to why the workers will be united by the desturction that occured to them. Breaking it Down, Part 1: The most coherent pieces of evidence that show the rock is represented as a monument and the workers are there because of it are the proportion and how everyone is working hard around it. In terms of the placement, the rock was positioned to be right smack in the middle of this community balanced on a couple of woods. It s strange to see how it is placed because since it is balanced on unalligned chunks of wood, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay On George Washington And Alexander Hamilton Throughout the history there have been many important people that have help built what we know as the United States. During their time there were a lot of events that defined these characters to become the great leaders that they were. In specific George Washington and Alexander Hamilton are the reason we have some of our commodities and rights nowadays. They went through a lot of criticism and hard work all for the good of everyone, but hard work pays off; this is why both of these important characters are in the faces of our current currency. The Washington administration faced many challenges, the Articles of confederation had many flaws which brought problems. The new nation government was thought to be weak, one reason being that the articles of confederation only gave a one house legislature. Air Pollution Air pollution is one obvious environmental health threat in OECD countries, contributing to a number of illnesses, such as asthma and in some cases leading to premature death. Of particular concern is the fact that children are more vulnerable to air pollution than adults, and increased rates of infant mortality have been recorded in highly polluted areas. Concerns about the impact of air pollution on health and the economy have resulted in measures to mitigate emissions of the most harmful pollutants, such as particle pollution (acids, organic chemicals, metals, and soil or dust particles) and ozone, which affects the respiratory system. Mold spores can survive harsh environmental conditions, such as dry conditions, that do not support normal mold growth. Some people are sensitive to molds. For these people, exposure to molds can cause symptoms such as nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, wheezing, or skin irritation. Some people, such as those with serious allergies to molds, may have more severe reactions. • 8. Loyalty In Macbeth The Tragedy of Macbeth is a play by the famous playwright, William Shakespeare. William Shakespeare s plays are known for his character s dramatic aspects and how they are portrayed in the play towards the reader or onlooker. Macbeth illustrates importance of Kingship and Natural Order. In Macbeth the notion of honor is of one s word and loyalty to one s superior, in this case the king, King Duncan. Despite of this, Macbeth displays defective relationships that loyalty is essential to the relationship. By killing his comrade and friend, Banquo, Macbeth shows that he is untrustworthy and his egocentric mind. By killing his king and relative, Duncan, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth reveal their ambitiousness toward the hierarchy. • 9. Analysis Of Ace Ventura And School Of Rock In both, Ace Ventura and School of Rock, comedy is proposed from the outset; even the title and movie cover are comedic. Setting up pretend worlds creates distances for the audience allowing them to laugh at the comedies. In Ace Ventura, the main character, Ace Ventura, is a pet detective hired to find a missing dolphin who is kidnapped before the Superbowl. This concept suggest absurdity at both the ridiculousness of someone kidnapping a dolphin and a private pet detective being hired to find it. This concept also sets up a lot of jokes throughout the movie; Ace has a special bond with animals, an ability to communicate with animals, and in many ways acts like an animal, especially a dog. At no point is the concept of the movie taken seriously by the audience so the outrageousness of Ace s character and his actions are cartoonish. This is a very different tone from School of Rock, where the movie is set in a somewhat more realistic world that the audience is able to identify with. School of Rock creates comedy through a fish out of water scenario where the immature, rock and roll loving, Dewey impersonates his roommate, Ned, and becomes a substitute teacher for ten year olds. The scheming Dewey devises a plan to create a rock band out of his class and win a contest, setting up multiple comedic approaches. The role of Ace Ventura seems to be written especially for Jim Carrey as it takes advantage of all of his physical comedy gifts. Jim Carrey honed his comedic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both painters are known for their remarkable paintings each from different eras. Before I go on to dissect the paintings, I ll give you some key background information on the two artists. Velazquez was born in 1599 and died on August 6th, 1660 whereas Picasso was born on October 25th, 1881 and died on April 8th, 1973. Therefore you can tell that there will of course be some differences in their paintings especially the meaning behind them because they were born in separate time periods. Both were fairly old, Velazquez was 61 when he passed away and Picasso was 92. Velazquez was 57 when he made this painting so his life was coming close to an end, whether he knew it or not. It could have influenced his perspective on the painting. Picasso was 70 when he did his first rendition of Las Meninas so by that time he had done a lot of artwork and still had some life left, so his experience and time could have influenced it as well. Despite the time difference between Velazquez s painting and this version of Picasso s painting, there are some similarities. The backgrounds are both black, maybe it was a good background color for both of them. Velazquez could have done it to represent the room the princess was in. Stead A Sick Day for Amos McGee is about a friendly zookeeper, who always goes to the zoo, on the number five bus every day to make time for his friends, which are the elephant, the tortoise, the penguin, the rhinoceros, and the owl. He plays chess with the elephant, runs races with the tortoise, sits with the penguin, always gives his handkerchief to the rhinoceros, and reads to the owl. Then, one day the zookeeper gets sick and he is not able to go to the zoo to his friends. So, his friends left the zoo on the number five bus and visited his best friend at home to make him feel better. A Sick day for Amos McGee won the Caldecott Medal in 2011 for the illustrations that were done by Erin E. Stead, who is the wife of the author, Philip C. Stead. She made a speech on her winning, saying A picture book allows a child ownership of art even if it s just for the two weeks they check it out of the library. That book is theirs. I m not sure any other art for replicates that feeling. She is right, every picture book that a person picks up, buys, or checks out is a piece of art because all picture book illustrations are different and unique. Illustrations in pictures are meant to make the use of the book for entertainment. The illustrations that Erin C. Stead uses in her all of her books are woodblock or also known as woodcut printing and then she draws on the top of the prints in pencil to finish the illustration. This type of illustration was used in A Sick Day for Amos McGee. Woodblock printing is a technique that is used to print text, images or patterns. In an interview talking about the illustrations in her and her husband s book, with MacMillan Children s on YouTube, the colors that are in the book are stamped onto the page by a piece of wood. Our personalities are made up of our behaviours and the way in which we think, feel and act no two people are exactly alike in personality. (Fletcher and Garton, 2015). Personality plays a major role in psychology as it is constantly being talked about in terms of developing it, measuring it and how it can influence the way we interact with others. Theorists have identified different traits and characteristics as a way to categorise different personality types. Within psychology there is three theories relating to Personality; humanistic, psychodynamic and trait. These perspectives were developed by different psychological theorists, in which this presentation we ll attempt to draw further into. In particular, this presentation will focus on humanistic and psychodynamic personality perspectives. (Fletcher and Garton, 2015) Theory 1: Freud s Psychodynamic View Psychodynamics is one of the three major personality perspectives and leads people to believe that human thoughts, feelings and actions are caused by a relationship between three elements of the mind the id, the ego and the super ego. The Energy Source Of Energy In an era where fossil fuels are the dominant source of energy, environmentalists and scientists are looking for alternative energy sources in the fear that fossil fuels will sooner or later become consumed by our energy needs. In the hunt to find a strong alternative energy source, scientists have reverted back to an old formula E=MC2. The indicated formula was first thought up by Albert Einstein to describe a part of general relativity in the paper Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content? Furthermore, in his publication Albert Einstein explains that mass and kinetic energy are proportionally equal. Meaning you can transfer energy into mass and vice versa. In addition if you are able to transfer mass into energy that mass will be multiplied by the speed of light (C) squared, meaning that a little mass can turn into a lot of energy. Moreover, Einstein s reasoning for using the speed of light is because atoms when separated travel the speed of light thus carrying a lot of energy. At the time Einstein was working on trying to find ways to separate and or fuse atoms in order to gain energy and put his formula to use. However, today we have found two different ways of doing so in what we call nuclear fusion and nuclear fission. Nuclear fusion has been around since the big bang, as it is the process that powers stars just like ours and is how our universe continues to grow. Each section touches on different ideas of economy, philosophy and the environment, through the common lens of microeconomics, which champions alleviation of problems through the scaling down from the current mega economies to village sized economies. Further subsections incorporate ideas such as education, energy and the different scales of organizations. Schumacher ends the book by relating all the aforementioned topics back to each other and calling urgency to reprioritize to avoid an imminent downfall. This is an extremely strong book, with many evident strengths. Written in an idealistic and conversational tone, the writer calls on many issues that are still relevant over four decades later. Issues like over use of resources, the dangers of static technology, and human s obsession over materialism are still very real problems that have only worsened since Schumacher first called attention to them. While most books that were written in the 1970s about technology and economy run the risk of becoming outdated very, Schumacher has done an excellent job of addressing the root of the issues, including materialistic consumption versus happiness, which seem to be timeless. While he never wrote any books of his own, his teaching is filtered through the ages from his apprentices. Plato, one of his students, wrote The Apology describing Socrates defense against the accusations that led him to be on trial. The story begins with Socrates opening with an appeal to the jury. His defense is simply his skills of rhetoric. Instead of bringing evidence, as seen in a normal court of law today, he decides to defend himself with logic and reason. He shows cool composure in facing prosecution from a jury that was biased against him. In the Apology, Socrates demonstrates his knowledge, courage, and fortitude when facing his accusers and responding to their challenges but also shows his natural tendency to be blunt and abrasive. Socrates was put on trial with a jury of his peers who were already biased against him. He could have fled, but he chose to face them. This showed fortitude. He was charged with not recognizing the gods, inventing deities, and corrupting the people of Athens. Chernobyl Essay examples Chernobyl The topic I have chosen for this term paper is quot;Ex Soviet Bloc s Environmental Crisis, Issue C. quot; #2 Upgrading nuclear reactors to meet international standards. I have chosen this topic because nuclear power is not only an environmental issue but also a severe health issue for the citizens around the nuclear site and also for the rest of the country and world because of food products that could be grown there and used as market items. Nuclear radiation is in no way healthy to anyone. It is much more easier to develop a life threatening disease if you are currently being effected by the radiation or have already been effected. Forty years later, they had found no evidence that there were any genetic problems in any of the survivors children. In contrast, Yuri E. Dubrova of the University of Leicester in England and his colleagues claim that they have found evidence that germline mutation rates in humans can be increased by ionizing radiation. Dubrova s team compared specific gene segments taken from the blood of people in 79 families that lived in a exposed area surrounding Chernobyl. Also they studied 105 members from unexposed families in the United Kingdom. All children in both groups were born 8 years after the melt down. The researchers studied gene segments known as minisatellite loci, repeating patterns of roughly 5 to 45 bases, the units that make up DNA. No one knows the genetic purpose, if any, of minisatellites, but their variation from person to person enables scientists to use them as the basis of so called genetic fingerprinting .(Dubrova )Because a child s DNA represents a combination of germline DNA from both parents, any sequence in the child that does not have either parents DNA in it, must result from a germline mutation. Dubrova s team therefore looked for minisatelite sequences in the children s DNA that did not appear in either of the parents DNA. They found twice the number of mutations in children of exposed Belarus parents as in U.K. children. We are 99 percent sure that these are real germline mutations and they have been passed from parent to child, (Dubrova ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Binary Opposition In The Hunger Games Binary opposition is not only a vital concept in linguistics, but it also plays a significant role in the fields of anthropology, sociology, literature and art as it is believed that things only mean something in relation to one another, like the ever existing concept of good and evil. They serve as labels to identifying certain ideas but what makes them opposites is that fact that they cannot coexist and this creates boundaries between groups, leading to discrimination, inequality and injustice. This is very much present in The Hunger Games in which two opposite groups are created based on the same idea of presence and absence (of power) and the weaker group fears the stronger and ends up obeying whatever the dominant has to say. This not only creates prejudices, bias and disparity between groups but also leads to the us and them distinction, where the dominant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned in the very first chapter of this study, the type of control that the Capitol has is technological in nature. From the very beginning of the story, we are told that it is not safe to talk against the Capitol as they have eyes and ears everywhere. Katniss Everdeen, the narrator, mentions it that she goes to hunt in the forest to keep her family from dying and even in the middle of nowhere (Quote 18, line 3), she worries somebody might overhear her (Quote 18, line 4). For this reason, she explains that she learned (Quote 18, line 7) not to talk about the Capitol in public and avoid tricky topics such as the reaping, or food shortages or the Hunger Games (Quote 18, line 11 12). She is so cautious that she tries to turn her features into an indifferent mask so that no one could ever read her thoughts (Quote 18, line 8). Here two assumptions may take birth from this study either zinc has genomic stability properties directly or it does so by reducing the absorption of lead in the body which in turn may prevent DNA damage. Several mechanisms involved in genotoxic response for example destabilization of chromatin may indirectly involve DNA damage (Johansson and Pellicciari, 1988) and impair repairing process (Hartwig et al. 1990). It is believed that not a single factor could be responsible for genotoxicity but many factors including dietary could markedly influence the hostility of genotoxic agents (Hayatsu et al. 1988; Fenech and Rinaldy, 1994). Diets rich in antioxidant can negatively reduce the risk of several type of human cancer (Byers and Perry 1992). Moving towards the end of the passage, Le Corbusier s final assertion in his self endorsed edict A state of mind for conceiving mass production housing. Again one could argue Le Corbusier was inferring more so to a level of thought where there is no pre conceived notion of what a home or tower is, or even can be, only the task at hand and a mind to solve it. Chekhov started writing in order to support his family economically, becoming a master in drama and short stories. His literature is characterized by the use of colloquial language which could be understood even by the less educated and recently liberated serfs. The first two portraying two different ways in which emancipation affected peasants, and the last two, showing how the emancipation affected Russian aristocracy. The end of the Old Regime therefore, is portrayed by Chekhov when at the end of the play Lohpakin becomes the owner of the estate and cuts the cherry orchard. Chekhov, as a contemporary observer, uses his play to criticize some aspects of the emancipation of 1861. The message he leaves is that although the emancipation was an important step towards freedom, it was not the only one to be made. This message, besides being given throughout the novel, is also stated by Trofimov, an idealist student who realizes how far Russia is from achieving real freedom. • 43. The Meaning Of When Worlds Collide When Worlds Collide In order to describe the meaning of When Worlds Collide we must individually address how each of the migrating European cultures, positively or negatively interacted with the Native Americans. A collision being different then a merging already hints that the two worlds didn t blend quite so peacefully, at least to begin with. In present day America there is very little native American culture left standing and that can all be traced back to the eradication of Native American culture by the Europeans. The first recorded interaction between Europeans and the Native American (Tainos) was initiated by an Italian explorer by the name of Christopher Columbus. Under the funding of the Spanish Monarchs, Columbus intended to travel westward in hope of finding an oceanic passage to Asia for trade. When Columbus stumbled upon what we now know to have been the Bahamas, he believed he had found the Indies and thus named the people he discovered Indians . He went back to Europe bringing along some Tanios and convincing the monarchs he had found a civilization worth plundering, and people naive enough to lead into slavery. When Columbus returned to his discovery he found his Spanish crew dead, most likely due to the poor treatment the Tainos had been receiving.
