Shutter Island, by Dennis Lehane and The Yellow...
Gothic tales are known for being mysterious and gloomy. Certain elements are integrated throughout
the narrative to create the desired effect, and simultaneously suggest other ideas. Shutter Island by
Dennis Lehane and The Yellow Wall Paper by Charlotte Perkins Stetson are significantly similar, by
the way both settings highlight the idea of madness. The relationship between setting and madness is
induced by the display of physical isolation, disturbing elements, and hallucinatory incidents. To
begin, with intent of initiating mystery in gothic stories, the locale is often portrayed as being
physically isolated, triggering insanity in the characters. This idea can be demonstrated by the
seclusion of the institution for the criminally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, as the patients in Shutter Island are cut off from society and merely exposed to criminally insane
people, it is hard for them to come back to a state of sanity. Briefly, physical isolation of the locale in
gothic literature finds its way into establishing madness, nevertheless, additional disturbing elements
impact on insanity as well. Just in the same way as isolation affects the mental state of characters,
disturbing elements in their surroundings can lead to this outcome in the narrative. In Stetson s short
story, the description of the room indicates that the windows are barred [...] and there are rings and
things in the wall (250). Additionally, the wallpaper is stripped off in great patches all around the head
of [her] bed, about as far as [she] can reach, and in a great place on the other side of the room low
down (251). These details symbolize how troubling the environment is for Charlotte as she expresses
antipathy, especially about the wallpaper by pointing out that [she] never saw a worse paper in [her]
life (251). In contrast, Lehane depicts guards using a powerful hose to calm the agitated patients: the
guards [got] the hose working and fired a blast, blew the guy off the bars, pushed him across the floor
(231). The hose is used as a tool to tranquilize critical situations in Shutter Island, however, as some
men [...] moaned, moans so deep and abandoned they could have come from a battlefield (231)

Problem Solution Speech
Homeless Veteran s
INTRODUCTION: How many people have a Veteran in their family or know one? If yes do you help
them or is it someone else s problem. Well many people think it s someone else problem, but the truth
is it s our problem.
They gave there all for each of us!
PROBLEM: Veterans being let go from service without appropriate long tern help. Leaves
unthinkable large numbers of Veterans helpless without knowledge on how to fit back in to the world
they left behind, so they become homeless. This problem is out of control.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) states the nation s homeless veterans are predominantly
male, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But they need a voice and eyes to see their way
FACTS: The most effective programs for homeless and at risk veterans are community based,
nonprofit, veterans helping veterans groups. Programs that work best feature transitional housing, with
the camaraderie of living in structured, substance free environments with fellow veterans who are
succeeding at bettering themselves.
FACTS: VA estimates that 107,000 veterans are homeless on any given night, and over the course of a
year, approximately twice that many experience homelessness. Only eight percent of the general
population can claim veteran status, but nearly one fifth of the homeless population are veterans.
Fact: VA s specialized homeless programs served more than 92,000 veterans in 2009, which is highly
commendable. This still leaves well over 100,000 more veterans,
Facts: Roughly 56 percent of all homeless veterans are African American or Hispanic, despite only
accounting for 12.8 percent and 15.4 percent of the U.S. population respectively
About 1.5 million other veterans, meanwhile, are considered at risk of homelessness due to poverty,
lack of support networks, and dismal living conditions in overcrowded or substandard housing.
Although flawless counts are impossible to come by the transient nature of homeless populations
presents a major difficulty VA estimates that 107,000 veterans are homeless on any given night. Over
the course of a year, approximately twice that many

Barcode Image Analysis Paper
We had categorized our work into 3 categories to achieve the goal of our project and to make a
complete barcode scanner Glassware to facilitate work ows in the biomedical laboratory. At rst we
were successfully able to scan a sample barcode image through the Glass. Then we had integrated the
Glass with Biobank and
Cryorepository webservice. At last we were able to display the desired information from the
webservice to the Glass display screen. The result of 3 catogories explains in detail below:

6.1 Barcode Image Analysis
In the real test, monochrome barcode image HIV 1722 of Code 128 format was used.
Glass was able to detect the barcode of image size 3.5cm x 7cm, 96 dpi (dots per inch) and bigger than
this. The distance between the barcode ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other sample barcodes were also tested. Since, we have used Zbar library for reading barcode, it
had successfully detected EAN 13, UPC A, UPC E, EAN 8, Code 128, Code 39 and QR Code format
barcode. Glass was able to detect the barcode of image size 2.7cm x 3cm with bar height 5, bar
distance 0.20, text size 1.2 mm and a resolution of 300. The image size of 2.5cm x 3cm was also
tested, but Glass was not able to detect this barcode because of the autofocus problem. A sample
barcode detected by the Glass is shown in the gure 13 below:
6.2 Integration with Biobank and Cryorepository
The Biobank and Cryorepository webservice (eurocryoDB) had Apache Axis2 server with the
authentication security. But we had disabled the security authentication in the server for our test and
our program with ksoap2 library was successfully able to retrieve the xml element from the
webservice. The gure below shows the associated xml element of a sample barcode from the

The Island Is Small, The North Shore Is Part Of A Huge...
Although Staten Island is small, the North Shore is part of a huge project coming up. Next to the Saint
George Terminal, Richard Marin is looking to create the Empire Outlets, and the New York Wheel, a
630 foot tall Ferris wheel. When Marin started discussing the development project, he already had
nearly 200 million dollars set, however, still needed to work out how he was going to get the other 300
million dollars (Hughes, 2015). An article in the New York Post, written by Associated Press (2014),
explains that the main goal of this reconstruction is to make Staten Island a place for tourism. The
article discusses the fact that millions of people ride the ferry, which is already a main tourist
attraction. However, the tourist are not spending any money or time on the Island because they are all
going into Manhattan. The goal of the ferris wheel and the shopping complex being created, is to keep
tourist occupied during their stay (Press, 2014). Although Staten Island is already over populated and
bringing in more people will have the area feeling congested, this is an ideal way of employing
hundreds of people. The New York City Economic Development Corporation, states that this project is
expecting to create at least four hundred construction jobs and four hundred permanent jobs,
ultimately helping the economy grow. Not only is this attraction for the two million tourist who ride
the ferry every year, it will be a place for people from Staten Island and New Jersey to

Stilbene Synthesis
Objective The objective of this lab is to synthesize and prepare the E isomer of Stilbene through the
Wittig reaction of benzyltriphenylphosphonium chloride, benzaldehyde, and sodium hydroxide.
Procedure Part A Preparation of (E) Stilbene In a 150 mL separatory funnel, 3.9 g (10 mmol) of
benzyltriphenylphosponium chloride and 1.5 mL (15 mmol) of benzaldehyde were poured into 7.5 mL
of dichloromethane (DCM), which was then treated with 35 mL of 50% sodium hydroxide. The
separatory funnel was tightly sealed with a glass cork, and was subsequently agitated vigorously for

Joyce Carol Oates Short Story Analysis
Most teens learn to use irony as a way to avoid telling the truth, tip toeing around the truth. They do
this to deal with or avoid issues in their lives that they do not want to face directly. They would prefer
to mask their feelings with lies, then be direct and turn to irony to convey emotions they cannot be
honest about. In Joyce Carol Oates short story, this is exactly what Sunny does. The understanding and
meaning of a free world between Sunny and Zachary display just how differently people view and
relate the outside world to their life choices and responsibilities. A discussion could be brought on
about this topic, or if teens view it as a free world too, and how they feel about their own
responsibilities and choices, in this free world. Oates uses irony in her writing to point out this distinct
difference in her two main characters . Sunny saw the world as free of her, but as for Zachary, he did
not. Prior to the response, Sunny gave him, Oate s mentions as to why he may not see it as a free
world. Zachary s parents were urging him to go to Muhlenberg College...Zachary hoped to go
elsewhere (42). Zachary was having his choices almost made for him despite his want to do something
else. Having someone else control his actions and thinking of others when making decisions, affected
how he carried out his personal and school life actions. Sunny was popular and like the good looking
girls, club officers, prom queens, cheerleaders.... (14). She was kind and wholesome.

ECT In The Film One Flew Over The Cuckoo s N
Prior to this assignment, my feelings from electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) solely came from images
in the media. Two instances that stand out to me is the portrayal of ECT in an episode of American
Horror Story: Asylum and from the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest. Although I realize
media is not an accurate representation of reality, these scenes stood out to me due to the intense,
emotional display of ECT s effects through the patient s eyes. Despite the unrealistic depiction of
ECT, one accurate aspect of the scenes is that ECT was commonly used during the 1960s 1970s to
improve mental disturbances and a variety of psychological disorders. I think the reason these scenes
stood out to me was that ECT was implemented without the patient s informed consent or agreement
upon the treatment regimen, utilized as a way to subdue patients into compliance. Contrary to modern
use of ECT, this type of therapy was used as a form of punishment, implemented ... Show more

I learned that often times, ECT is used along with a general anesthesia and a brief electrical current
initiated to trigger a brief seizure. Likewise, I realized that ECT is the preferred treatment when other
options are not as well tolerated. After becoming more familiar with the procedure, it seems as though
ECT may be a more desirable option than pharmacological interventions as drug interventions may
require more time to become effective. Sometimes when a patient s signs and symptoms are
overwhelming, interfering with their daily life, time is of the essence and ECT provides a quicker
relief for individuals with immediate risk. After several years and improvement technology, ECT has
become much safer in the past, presenting minimal possible risks memory loss, confusion, headache
or muscle ache to the

Desegregation In 1964 And The Civil Rights Act Of 1964
The Civil Rights Act of 1964, a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement, was passed in order to
ban discrimination in public places as well as strengthen the role of the federal government to end
segregation in public places. Also included in this act was the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission which was established in order to ensure racial discrimination was not occurring within
employment. The aspect of desegregation was not occurring rapidly in Southern states, such as
Alabama. Not only was desegregation not occurring quickly under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 but
also the act did not address any issues with voting rights among the African American community. The
civil rights movement grew strong in southern regions especially racially tense areas such as Selma. In
the city of Selma as well as a variety of other southern regions, African Americans were harassed
when attempting to practice their fundamental rights of voting through poll taxes and literacy tests. In
1965, only 1% of African Americans were registered to vote in Selma but 50% of Selma s population
was African American. In order to address the lack of voting rights, Martin Luther King and the SNCC
worked vigorously on setting up marches to overcome the injustice that was occurring in Selma. Due
to the overly aggressive authorities in the South, a majority of the marches ended violently thus
increasing public support for new legislation to ensure the basic right of voting to the African

Online Censorship And Freedom
We salute those who have served or are serving our nation. We express gratitude to those brave men
and women for their service to keep our American freedom. But why does freedom end once it
involves technology? In this past year, more people have been questioning their online privacy. From a
young age we are taught how to be careful on the internet, however our predator is no longer a 50 year
old man pretending to be 13 year old Jessica. Our newest online threat is how fragile Americans
privacy is online. Internet users, in The United States, personal information is being sold so that

The United States started this project to develop a secure protocol to allow the military to
anonymously communicate with people such as spies. Tor works by relaying one s internet connection
through multiple volunteers internet connection from other countries, making the connection virtually
impossible to trace back. Just because one uses Tor, it does not mean that they are a volunteer as well.
Volunteers set up Tor relays so that other people can browse anonymously, most of these volunteers
are located in countries where internet privacy is taken very seriously. One might claim that if the
government initiated Tor, then it would contradict the idea that The United States is attempting to
eliminate internet privacy. Roger Dingledine, The co founder of Tor says, The United States
government can t simply run an anonymity system for everybody and then use it themselves only.
Because then every time a connection came from it people would say, Oh, it s another CIA agent. If
those are the only people using the network (Almost Everyone Involved in Developing Tor). Tor is a
tool that relies on other users to work efficiently, without other users it would make a government
official easy to point out. Nonetheless, this does not mean the US government have not used Tor in the
past to spy on everyday American users that wish to have online privacy. This may sound like a
conspiracy theory, but it is indeed a fact. In 2013, whistleblower Edward Snowden leaked confidential
information concerning the Unites States government surveillance programs. In other words Edward
Snowden exposed proof that the government was spying on Americans online. Those who use Tor

Warren Buffett American Growth
The railroad in the United States assisted with its growth and expansion from sea to shining sea.
However, with the advent of the personal vehicle, trucks, and aviation, the railroad began to decline
(Gallamore Meyer, 2014). Therefore, one might question why Warren Buffett purchased Burlington
Northern Santa Fe Railroad for $26.5 billion dollars. However, years after the $26.5 billion dollars
was spent, no one would question the investment as its revenue has since risen 57% and has become a
main source of income for Warren Buffett s company, Berkshire Hathaway (Buhayar, 2014). There are
a few reasons how Warren Buffett saw this growth coming and capitalized. Mr. Buffett has throughout
his years of life seen a steady growth in our nation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Refined oil is the number one product within the United States (Reed, 2010). Furthermore, the means
to shipping oil around the country is rail (O Malley, 2014). Thus, Warren Buffets purchase of the
Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad company makes sense. This can be explained by the fact that
according to Warren Buffett, the shipment of oil via rail is a cheaper, positive alternative to pipelines
(O Malley, 2014). Warren Buffett s purchase of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad shows that Mr.
Buffett believes that as hauling via truck becomes more costly due to rising oil prices, a cheap rail
system will be preferred (Foroohar, 2012). The reason that rail is a cheap means of shipment is simple,
rail uses less fuel to travel. This is evident in the fact that a rail system can haul one ton of goods 500
miles on just one gallon of fuel (O Malley, 2014). One would be hard pressed to find a trucking
company that could boast the same. Thus, as fuel prices rise, rail would become more viable. Warren
Buffett has personally been quoted stating this by mentioning that energy prices will rise within the
United States, allowing his railroad venture to grow more over time (Foroohar, 2012). Furthermore, as
pipelines remain controversial and a slow means of shipping oil, rail can solve the problem via
expediting oil shipments around the country (O Malley,

When you begin to examine how the internet and crime are related, you must first examine exactly
what the internet is and how it works. The internet is a global system of computers and networks that
are interconnected and service billions of users at any given time. This could be considered a
cybercriminals playground. Because billions of computers are connected via a vast array of private

The Gospel Of Wealth By Andrew Carnegie Essay
Since the nineteenth and twentieth century, there has always been a division between the wealthy and
unfortunate. During these times the higher class continued to prosper while the lower class remained
at the bottom, the separation continues to grow. Three men vocalize their views on the social division,
capitalism, and individualism. Andrew Carnegie, an industrialist, believed the rich should distributed
their wealth to benefit society while they re alive. Carnegie elaborates this idea in his article, The
Gospel of Wealth, written in 1889. Russell Conwell, a philanthropist, expresses in his speech, Acres of
Diamonds, men should utilize their surrounding opportunities to make themselves wealthy. Edward
Bellamy, a socialist, wrote Look Backward about a wealthy young man, Julian West, who enters
hypnotic sleep in 1887 and awakes 113 years later. Although, the men state similar matters their views
contrast, Carnegie and Conwell would most likely be critical to Bellamy s vision. Julian West is
educated and the third generation of his family to have great fortune. West s life of luxury succeed
through support from the labor of others, rendering no sort of service in return (Bellamy). When West
enters hypnotic sleep and awakes in 2000 he realizes the 20th century is very different from the 19th.
Bellamy s Looking Backward was vastly popular particular among the middle class. His vision is
desired by the middle class because it s better than today s world. Bellamy s vision

Essay on Nibco s Big Bang
NIBCO s Big Bang : SAP Implementation In 1994, after a significant strategic planning effort took
place, NIBCO Inc., decided to implement a plan to, Go Live with a new SAP program. (Brown,
Dehayes, Hoffer, Martin amp; Perkins. 2012) The reasons behind NIBCO s decision to implement and
ERP System are those that are familiar to other companies who have made the same decision. One of
the key conclusions from the strategic planning that led to the ERP implementation was that the
organization could not prosper with its current information systems. (Brown, Dehayes, Hoffer, Martin

In the case of NIBCO, it was not beneficial to their staff to put a rush on implementing the new SAP
program because this rush made it hard on employees and their families because the employee had to
work harder and longer. Having this type of work environment on a daily basis could definitely lead to
stress at home. The Boston Consulting group (BCG) was brought in to help the company develop a
strategic information systems plan to meet its new business objectives. The fact that they were
recommending a three to five year phased ERP implementation system was not the best approach
because it would take too long to implement. (Brown, Dehayes, Hoffer, Martin amp; Perkins. 2012)
Another con in the implementation plan was the fact that NIBCO would have to commit a significant
portion of its resources in order to quickly put in place the systems to execute the new supply chain
and customer facing strategies. (Brown, Dehayes, Hoffer, Martin amp; Perkins. 2012) In implement
that SAP program, it seemed as if it would have benefited NIBCO better if the management
consultants would have known more about ERP and or SAP so it would not be difficult to apply their
principles. (Brown, Dehayes, Hoffer, Martin amp; Perkins. 2012) Even though there were some

As we walked to the field he asked about my experience playing the game. So as we walked I told him

The Gospel According To Matthew Research Paper
The Gospel According to Matthew was written at a time of uncomfortable tensions. People had pride
for their Jewishness but hated the Jewish establishments. They believed that the way to heaven was
not with Jewish institutions but rather with the people and an allegiance to Jesus. The Gospel
According to Matthew was almost an attempt to respond to the crises posed by the destruction of the
temple. The community the Gospel of Matthew was for was a community which is both faithful to its
scriptural heritage and open to the new directions demanded by Jesus proclamation of the kingdom of
heaven, and therefore necessarily expanding beyond the bounds of the Jewish people. The Gospel
According to Matthew was written for a Jewish group, which ... Show more content on

Though it couldn t have been written in Jerusalem since it was written after the Jewish war which
means there were very little, to no, Jews there and the city was destroyed for the most part. If it was
written somewhere else in Palestine it would have not been written in Greek, but rather Aramaic
which was the language of Palestine at that time. Since it was written in Greek it is highly unlikely
that Matthew was written anywhere in Palestine. The next possibility for the location of Matthew s
authorship is Caesarea Maritima, which would make sense since there is a lot of conflict in Matthew
with the Pharisees and formative Judaism. Those who lived near Palestine felt this conflict and since
Caesarea Maritima is near there this conflict would make sense for a Gospel written in such a location.
Though it is highly unlikely that the Gospel was written there since the population was mostly gentile.
This is because during the Jewish war most Jews that lived in Caesarea Maritima were either killed or
left because they felt threatened. The next possibility as to where the Gospel was written is somewhere
in Syria, outside of Antioch, since this is one of the last remaining options that make sense. More
specifically scholars think that it may have been written in northeastern Syria since there is a
connection between the M material found in Matthew and certain eastern religious traditions in
Mithraism, Zoroastrianism, and Buddhism. However the problem with this hypothesis is the language
in this area is Syriac, not Greek. Since Matthew was written in Greek it is highly unlikely it was
written in Syria outside of Antioch. This leads to the best option as to where Matthew was written,
Antioch on the Orontes. The strongest argument for this location is since the author is not certain, in
order for Matthew to have become so popular and later be accepted as Apostolic the

Art Of War Movie Vs Book
If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles , stated
Sun Tzu in his book The Art Of War. This quote ties greatly to the mindset of Ender Wiggin. Ender is
confronted with an opponent who he cannot beat. All his life he has been the underdog, but smarter
than all those around him and battle school gave him a chance to prove his worth. The intensity of
Ender s Family life and his journey to defeat the buggers, is much more coherent in the movie than the
book.
The Movie and the book both had decisive themes that made this story as incredible as it is. These
themes are a major part, and would drastically change the story if it was removed. Ender being a third

One big difference would be the fact the movie leaves so much out. The book had a lot of unnecessary
information that made the story tedious. The movie shortened things and made it get right to the point.
Another difference would be the training process, in the movie the training was not long at all. We got
an idea of how essential it was, then it went straight to the real battle. The last disparity and probably
the most odd, was Peter not being in the movie much. In the book Peter had a very big role, and
played a huge part in Ender s life. However, in the movie he showed up once and wasn t mentioned
much after that. These discrepancies were what made these two places there own.
The way the movie put the key ideas of the story together, made it much more understandable than the
book. The Movie gave great visuals and puts you into the life of Ender by having him tell his own
story. The book made Ender seem unreal and he was very hard to relate to. People that like for things
to get straight to the point and easily understood would appreciate the movie more than the book. The

Structural Vulnerabilities And Link Privacy
Structural vulnerabilities and Link Privacy in Social Networks
Introduction/Background:
In social networks, a link represents a relationship between two nodes in the network. These links can
represent email conversations, web surfing, co purchases of two or more products (e.g. Amazon),
friendships (e.g. Facebook), followers (e.g. Twitter), etc. Often times these relationships are sensitive
and/or confidential in nature [ying wu] and the users are operating under the assumption that their

Neighborhood Randomization Using Sub Graph Perturbation
In order for people to mine valuable data from social network graphs they must first be given
information about the network. Even without explicit information about the nodes, an attacker may
use structural information about the nodes and graph itself (e.g. node degree) to identify who the
individuals are that the nodes represent. Simple graph wise randomization addresses this problem by
deleting k randomly chosen edges and replacing them with k randomly chosen edges, however a
problem arises since data miners depend on these structural attributes to properly analyze the social
network. Fard and Wang [fard wang] propose a structure aware algorithm for the randomization of
social network edges as well as a formal definition of link privacy with respect to a probabilistic
threshold. Their motivation is to help conceal sensitive links by using randomization techniques,
without disturbing the actual structure of the graph, which is achieved through local neighborhood
perturbation. This is needed so that graphs can be analyzed without the link structure being left
entirely vulnerable to attackers. The goal of their algorithm is to make it so that an adversary cannot
know if a link in the original graph exists from having a link in the new graph.

Book Banning
Think back to when you were in high school, do you remember that one book you read that really
opened your eyes? Well the sad reality is that somewhere in the world that favorite book you read is
either banned or challenged in a library. So it sits locked away never to open the eyes of another or
help educate them further on its contents. Books should not be banned in libraries. We have the
freedom of speech, so why take away or censor our freedom to simply read and consume literature?
There are usually two ludicrous reasons as to why books are banned or challenged, one of them is that
someone gets offended by its contents. I see in many cases that a very religious person gets outraged
by homosexuality in books, and sadly enough that is one of the leading causes of ... Show more

Some religions do not like talk of magic or sorcery in fiction books, but that does not mean they
should ruin it for everyone else. The second and most common cause of book banning is a parent gets
upset that their child is reading a book that may contain some more mature scenes. I understand that
some parents may want to protect their children from the more mature content, but by no means
should you ban the book. Someone older and more mature may find this book enlightening! A great
example of this is a parent in Wallingford, Connecticut who filed a complaint against Perks of Being a
Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky and took matters so far to have the book banned. The parent
complained about the book s depiction of homosexuality, sex, and a glorification of alcohol use and
drugs, according to the local news paper. Perks of being a wallflower is about a boy suffering heavily
from post traumatic stress disorder or PTSD and depression. The book takes readers through a roller
coaster of emotions, but

The Importance Of Parenting In Friday Night Lights
Parenting is very important to children, and it directly or indirectly affects all aspects of a child s life,
from school and behavior to social relationships and sports. The non fiction book, Friday Night
Lights, by H. G. Bissinger takes place in Odessa, Texas in 1988 and focuses on the Permian Panther
high school football team. Football acts as a driving force for many high school and upper level
athletes, and often keeps the players striving to do better on the field, and in life. The support parents
give physically, emotionally, and financially to their child that is participating in sports is important;
however, fathers involvement specifically can often bring added pressure due to the high expectations.
Mike Winchell,Permian s starting quarterback, strived to make his father proud. His father, Billy
Winchell, had been in an oil accident that Had cost him his leg, and eventually his father leg go,all too
soon for Mike(Bissinger,73). Mike s fathers death at 13, combined with his parents split up when he
was 5, forced Mike to grow up at a very young age. Billy and Mike had a very strong father son
relationship, and his father assisted in coaching Mike the sports that he played; Billy was a very
demanding and harsh, but compassionate instructor, guiding Mike through his baseball and football
career. Billy was very leaneate in certain charastics of raising his son,but also consequential in other
aspects, insisting He had to go to college, there could be no two ways

Introduction Of The Cross Border Shopping
Cross Border Shopping
Introduction
Emergence of revolution in the world led to globalization. Hitherto, people gain from the massive and
healthy business trades across the borders. In this case, one country is able to gain from selling or
buying of goods. At some point, countries realized the importance of creating a global trading arena to
encourage the producers from all nations. In this regard, people enjoyed from some exemptions that
interfered with flow of goods and service across borders. Despite the vast advantage that parties enjoy
in this kind of trade, they face various hurdles, which demoralize them as they perform their business
transactions. For instance, changes in the economic status in one of the countries result in reduction in
value of goods. Likewise, some traders may suffer due to high rates of taxation in the bordering
countries.
Understanding the concept of cross border shopping
The presence of competition in the indirect tax within the export and import zones leads to the
creation of horizontal tax externalities. Vertical tax externalities may also arise between the central and
regional government. In most of the cases, both countries tend to maximize revenue through tax
collection through purchasing and selling of goods. One party may therefore set policies that aim at in
increasing tax collection (Lucas 369). Likewise, the government may also balance the availability of
imports in the country by employing certain regulations that minimizes their

Kandinsky Vs Klee
Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee are two of the famous artists of abstract art. They both had started
their painting life since 1900, and they had had friendship during their lifetime. Which is easier to
compare their artworks by year and find the similarities of how they were influent by each other. Such
as Kandinsky s Improvisation and Klee s Colour shape in 1914, Kandinsky s Black Increasing and
Klee s Black Knight in 1927. Thus, the four painting would be the artworks to compare. Two artists
have the same perspective toward art. First, Kandinsky not only sees colours as different moods but
also sees them as the sounds of music. He also assigned instrument tones to go with each colour: Red
sounded like a trumpet; Green sounded like a middle position violin; Light Blue sounded like flute;
Dark Blue sounded like a cello, Yellow sounded like a fanfare of trumpets; and White sounded like the
pause in a harmonious melody. (Kandinsky) It is a special perspective to see or hear art. In the same
way, Klee was a musician which found the resemblance between art and music.

Child Support Hearing
This week I had the pleasure of sitting in on five hearings. On Monday Magistrate Akel allowed me to
observe a child support hearing where both parties were living in Iowa. The initial order was given
while the couple lived in Florida. When the father moved to Iowa he was ordered to pay $509.00
dollars a month in child support. The mother sent the child to Iowa to visit his father for a week but
the child never came back to Florida. While the child was in the father s custody he continued to pay
child support to the mother. During the hearing, the father wanted to ensure that his ex wife placed the
money that she owed him into a depository account. The attorney representing the father pointed out
that she was behind in paying him back. The attorney as well as the father believed that the she was
using the money to support her other children. The mother claimed that all of the money that she owed
her ex husband was already in the depository. Magistrate Akel made sure that the mother was aware
that if the money was not there she would be held in contempt of court.
The next hearing involved timesharing. The mother and father could not agree on a schedule that was
best for the child. The mother was concerned that the father was not bonding enough because his

The Effects Of Technology In The Hunger Games
Technology can change human kinds future and present in various ways that they may not notice or
understand. But it is happening everyday and will most likely happen in the future. The book trilogy
The Hunger Games shows this very well as people are tricked and scared by technology, media, and
war.
The Hunger Games is set in the future of North America called Panem, that consists of the wealthy
Capitol and 12 districts in varying states of poverty. The trilogy s protagonist Katniss Everdeen, lives
in District 12, where people regularly die of starvation. As punishment for a past rebellion against the
Capitol, one boy and one girl from each district, are selected to compete in an annual death match
called the Hunger Games. The Games are a televised event in which the participants are forced to fight
to the death in a public arena. The purposes of the Hunger Games are to provide entertainment for the
Capitol and to remind the districts of the Capitol s power and lack of forgiveness for the failed
rebellion of the current competitors ancestors. In this book trilogy the capitol and districts use
futuristic technology and science to fight. Also, the capitol uses technology with media to confuse and
influence people in the country.
Two examples of how they used technology and media to trick people can be seen in these media
effect theories. First is the Spiral of Silence Theory, this is when people who hold minority views on
controversial issues tend to keep their views

Abuse Of Animal Abuse
Did you know about 10 million animals get abused and neglected every year? Circuses and Zoos are
prime examples of animal abuse and neglect. Animals like tigers, elephants, dolphins, and whales
should be in their natural habitat. These animals shouldn t be in small rusty cages, and crowded pools.
There are also people who illegally fight animals for money; i.e. Dog fighting, cock fighting, etc.
These animals fight for their lives, but the owners don t care about whether or not they die, they just
want money. Animals should not be used for our entertainment. Animals are not given the choice of
going into the entertainment world. People gamble on dog fighting, cock fighting, etc. Wild cats and
elephants in circuses endure abuse and neglect to be taught how to jump through hoops of fire.
SeaWorld neglects their animals once they get sick, and these animals are given merely any space.
Animal fighting is illegal in all 50 states in the U.S. and in district Of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto
Rico. Yet animal fighting happens almost every day. Most of the animals that fight are dogs, cocks, or
hogs. Dog owners like to train their dogs how to be aggressive. They chain their dog outside out of
reach from other animals and people. The dogs are given basic veterinary care and nutrition because
the owners care about winning, not about the dogs themselves. Some fighting dogs get steroids to
enhance their muscles and increase their aggressiveness. These dogs also get legal and illegal drugs

Feminism in Northanger Abbey and Persuasion by Jane Austen
Feminism in Northanger Abbey From my point of view, Jane Austen should be seen as a feminist
writer. As she wrote in one of her novel Persuasion, she considers that Men have had every advantage
of us in telling their own story. Education has been theirs in so much higher a degree; the pen has been
in their hands. I will not allow books to prove anything (Anne Elliot, in Jane Austen s Persuasion).
Such feminist ideas are expressed in many of her literary works. In her another novel Northanger
Abbey, there are various issues discussed, which include not only marriage, social criticism and
Gothic, but also feminism as well. The essay is to discuss Jane Austen and her feminist thoughts by
analyzing Northanger Abbey. The analysis will cover three aspects. First of all, in her book, Jane
Austen expresses the view that both genders possess equal creative and intellectual qualities, and thus
women are born to be equal to men. Second, she expresses her skepticism towards the degree of
rationality and justice of the common social norms about female behavior. The third aspect is that
Austen also insists that women should act for themselves in a rational way rather than merely trying to
impress or to please the other sex. First, though Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey is not completely
categorized as a feminist novel, by portraying the protagonist Catherine in the way Jane Austen does,
she expresses her opinion that women have been individuals with

Greed Vs Greed
Greed, can we control it or will it be the demise of human existence? Some of the world s most
intelligent people believe human greed will be the end of humans (Crofts). Scientists have studied the
behavior and have formed two theories; one claiming greed is part of human biology and the other that
greed is a result of environmental conditioning, there is sufficient evidence for both (Robinson).
Richard Talflinger, an expert in human behavior at Washington State University, describes greed as an
instinctive response to a human condition. His work suggests human greed and animal instincts are
akin to one another; at the root is self preservation. He observes that when an animal is starving it
wants more to eat; when thirsty, it wants more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, a man comes in for a few drops of moles blood, and just as the lady, he left with ten drops of the
shop owners. Both of these characters know it is human blood, but they do not care. As word spread,
so did human greed and competition. The next day the shop owner is barraged with masses of people
coming to receive their cure.
The cure, in Martel s We Ate the Children Last , is a breakthrough discovery using pig intestines to rid
humans of cancer (Martel 101). Patient D is the first patient to receive the transplant and the success
of the procedure gains national attention. He becomes healthier and more fit that he has ever been. The
press brings attention to the success of the procedure and soon the entire town wants one, it caught on
among the young and the bohemian, the chic and the radical, among all those who wanted a change in
their lives (Martel 103). The race to become the next patient for some, was driven not by illness, but
by greed.
The second element of comparison to examine are the physical and behavioral similarities the humans
had to animals. In Evtimova s Blood , man and mole are analogous to one another. The pet shop
owner feels at home staring at frogs, lizards, snakes and insects for hours without. The gloom of the
shop has provides a sense of peace and an odd feeling of home (85). Later in the story the town
wanted the shopkeeper s blood and came prepared to take all of it. The

Milgram Obedience Experiment Essay
Among the top most famous and shocking psychology experiments are the Milgram Obedience
Experiment, The Asch Conformity Experiment and The Standfort Prison Experiment of Zimbardo.
Those experiments helped us change the waye think about the human mind and behavior. The
Milgram Obedience Experiment Near the 1960 Yale University psychologist Stanley Miligram began
what would become one of social psychology s most famous experiments. Milgram began his work
during the widely publicized trial of the World War Two Nazi war criminal Otto Eichmann. In
Eichmann s defense along with other Nazis for sending millions of people to their deaths was that he
was simply following orders of his superiors. The trial got Milgram to thinking what might the
average person be capable of when under orders. For his initial experiment Milgram included 40 male
volunteers using newspaper ads, he built a shock generator with a scale of 30 switches that supposedly

With his piece The Son of a Migrant from Syria painted on the walls of a refugee camp in Calais,
France, anonymous British street artist, who is known by the pseudonym Banksy, enters the politically
fueled debate about the refugee and migrant crisis across the world. Western societies in particular are
concerned about the economic impact of accepting immigrants and refugees but Steve Jobs was the
son of a Syrian migrant. Apple is the world s most profitable company, it pays over $7 billion a year in

The British artist has no true public identity. With no background on the individual responsible for the
mural it is difficult to know if he carries any clout in the political or sociocultural world. Banksy is
known to be somewhat of a socialistic democrat, as implied by the genre of his art, but otherwise there
is no information given to assess his credibility. Given that Banksy is quite popular and well known,
his reputation reinforces his credibility as an opinionated street artist, but not as a credible resource in
regards to immigration policy and government aid. Banksy s affinity towards political and socially
controversial art makes it easy to understand his interests in issues surrounding the treatment of
migrants, refugees, and humanitarianism. However, his expertise in the subject is made even less
reliable due to the lack of relevance Steve Jobs has with the actual situation. For example, Steve Jobs
was the son of a migrant and not a migrant himself and he was adopted and had never met his migrant
father therefore he is not an accurate representative for refugees or migrants. Banksy s visual appeal to
ethos is virtually non existent for those unfamiliar with his works. This may not effect the viewer s
engagement in the argument but makes them disregard Banksy s personal contribution to the
argument. Overall, the appeal to Ethos appears to be minimally effective in persuading the audience
towards his

The United States is home to millions of immigrants from all over the world. During 2004 more or

it is something I can relate to. When I was a child, my parents brought my brother and I to the United
States. We lived right across the border from Eagle Pass, Texas which is where I live today. I was able

able to afford. I remember my teacher would give me one on one tutoring and would at first give me
work in Spanish and then started mixing it up a bit and would sometimes give me the work in English
rather than Spanish or sometimes even both. The teacher I have interviewed works for the Eagle Pass

Essay on Free Will
Free Will
A definition of free will, as we have seen, can be misunderstood and easily distorted. For the purpose
of this essay free will, will be defined as the ability to chose, express ones feelings, emotions, or
actions unconditionally.
From the first time I understood the meaning of what free will was, I believed in it 100%. I had the
right and ability to choose what ever I liked. Not only did I believe that I had free will but if I ever
heard otherwise I felt that the other person did not have a clear understanding of what free will was,
and as a result I could demonstrate a fairly strong persuasive argument opposing anything but the
existence of free will. I would illustrate a situation in which there seemed to be no ... Show more

I grew up in a household where I was taught that I was and will always be free. I also never had any
religious affiliation within my first 8 years of schooling, which might have influenced me to think
differently. The illustration of a gun to ones head is also rooted within the environment of others as
well as my own. We can assume that the majority of people would want to live in that situation and
therefore follow what is being asked of them. Now is that there free will? I don t think so. The fact
that they choose to live is based on their enjoyment of life and there lessons that they have been taught
by their upbringing, this is their environment. The same would be true on an extreme end. Somebody
may make the decision to not obey and sacrifice his or her life because of extreme misery and
discontent. Furthermore, the reason for the unhappiness may be a result of heredity. The victim s
mother could have used drugs, or something similar that which had an effect on her child.
God plays an interesting role in this explanation of free will. Presently, after having about 7 years of
religious education I feel like I am educated enough to speak of God. I believe that people can be
affected by God within there decision making and often have God make the choice for them. For
example, the choice to remain celibate until marriage, that is God s wishes

Key Benefits Of A Secured Loan
In the current economic climate where loans are not so readily available as they used to be it is useful
to know what your options are before applying for a loan.
Secured Loans
A secured loan is a loan that is secured on your property, and is available to people that have a
mortgage on their property who also have enough equity left in their property. The maximum LTV
(loan to value) allowable if you have a good credit history is currently 85% i.e. the total of your loan
and mortgage debt must be less than 85% of the value of your property. One of the main benefits of a
secured loan is that the lender is more likely to lend you money because they put a second charge on
your property (behind the charge that your mortgage lender has in place) which makes the loan a safer
bet for them if you default on your repayments. You can also borrow larger loan amounts for longer
terms than you can with an unsecured loan.
Unsecured Loans
An unsecured loan is a loan that is underwritten based on your personal circumstances, i.e. the lender
will look at your income and your outgoings and they will also look at your credit record. Although
the loan is unsecured the lenders are more likley to lend to homeowners than they are to tenants, for
the simple reason that should you default on your repayments the lender will look to put a charge on
your property in order to recover their money. Unsecured loans are generally available for smaller
amounts usually up to £15,000 and for shorter terms

First, for the operational measure (CPAR) of the dependent variable Project Performance, the model
summary in Table 14 shows the amount of variance explained by the predictor variables for each
model (Adjusted R Square), and the statistical significance (Sig.) of the model F test. The F test for
Models #3 and #5 are statistically significant at the 0.05 level. The highest Adjusted R Square value is
0.440 in Model #5, meaning the predictor variables explain 44% of variance in the dependent variable,
Project Performance.
As follow on to the model results, we evaluate the relationships between the variables in each of the
statistically significant models to test the hypothesis. Table 15 provides the standardized regression
coefficient (B), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is individual regression coefficient for the Inspections measure of the independent variable,
Safety Plan, is statistically significant (Sig. = .002). This causal relationship, including the
directionality, between Safety Plan, and the operational measurement (CPAR) of Project Performance,
provides partial support for Hypothesis 2a.
Model #5 of Table 15 shows three statistically significant individual regression coefficients. The
Certifications measure of the independent variable, Culture of Safety, positively relates to the
operational measure (CPAR) of Project Performance, as proposed by Hypothesis 1a.

Plaid In A Country Wedding
Plaid might look a little too laidback for some brides and grooms, but there are actually a number of
classy and creative ways to fit it into your country wedding without feeling like you ve down staged
the entire day. Add the checkered pattern into your wedding in any of these nine ways. 1. Table Linens
This minimalist strategy makes it easy to incorporate plaid in your country wedding. Keep the table
setting simple, and eliminate entire table cloths, replacing them with a plaid table runner instead. This
look is especially great for long tables where the runner can stretch from end to end. Set plaid napkins
on the table, instead of plain crème ones, to add a kitschy yet homey vibe to the dining setting that
perfectly encompasses the rustic part of the day. 2. Plates If plaid linens are too loud for you, dress up
the plates instead. Look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pair the plates with rustic centerpieces, such as pinecones and ferns. For more ideas, here are nine
creative centerpieces to consider. 3. The Groom s Wardrobe A pop of plaid in the groom s attire is both
fun and brings something new to the traditional wedding suit. The groom can wear a plaid tie in a
pattern that complements the suit and bridal bouquet. A pocket square or bow tie are additional swaps
he can make, which add a fashionable touch to the outfit. Whether he chooses a tie or a pocket square,
the item doesn t have to be a loud pattern. It can be soft and subtle, such as muted greens or blues. If
he s feeling really bold though, why not try a plaid suit? You can be sure it s a game changer when
compared to traditional wedding tuxedos. 4. The Bride s Dress If the bride s feeling casual, she can
wear a full flannel over her dress during the reception. This look gives the gown a relaxed feel. If this
look is too relaxed for you though, a thin plaid belt complements the dress, which looks just as lovely
without being over the

The Octopus
At the turn of the century, American readers were interested only in stories with happy endings, where
goodness was praised and evil was punished. They did not particularly care if that was a false
interpretation of the way life really was. When men such as Frank Norris, the author of The Octopus,
wrote angrily of the injustices and poverty to be found in America, readers turned away. The Octopus
made them change their minds. The course of the novel and the reality of its characters held the
readers attention. It is so powerful a book that people had to care about the wheat growers, almost
against their wishes.
The impact did not end in the early twentieth century, but continues its legacy into the new
millenium. The Octopus, depicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their solution to the crisis was to keep magnifying it, until it ruined the farmers. Once the railroad
raised the price for the land, the farmers could not afford to buy. They proceeded to create dummy
buyers, fictitious settlers who they created to come in and buy the land. Soon after Delany, a ranch
worker was fired, the railroad used him to act as a dummy buyer and buy the land.
There was no way Delany could actually afforded to buy the land on his own; he was obviously acting
as the railroad s pawn, sent to aggravate the ranchers who leased farms from the railroad. The railroad
also tampered with other types of characters in the story. Dyke was fired from his job at the railroad
after he refused to work for the rates of a man doing half the work he was doing. Then after Dyke
mortgaged his land to the railroad, they raised the rates on the crop he was producing. They drove him
to poverty and when he tried to take back what they had stolen from him by robbing money from one
of their trains, they had him thrown in jail for life.
This is another example of how Norris evinces the railroads unethical treatment of the common man
in California at the time.Shelgrim, the executive of the P. and S.W. tried to justify the railroad s
actions, and in a way, pass on the responsibility, by calling the railroad a force, something that he had
no control over. In the novel, he compared this force to the way that wheat was

Keats And Longfellow Persuasive Essay
The imminence of death can prove to be a more of a deterring factor from fulfillment than death itself.
In the poems When I Have Fears by John Keats and Mezzo Cammin by Henry Longfellow, both poets
reflect on their fear of death, however, Keats regrets that he may not fulfill his goals before death,
while longfellow regrets that he did not fulfill his goals in the past. In this contrast between past and
future, Longfellow looks back on all that he missed while living a comfortable youth and Keats is
fearful that he may not experience all the world has to offer yet is hopeful that he will have a chance.
John Keats s poem begins with when I have fears that I may cease to be , bluntly asking what would
happened if he died today. He asks himself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both men feel that time is escaping them. While keats is fearful that time is moving too quickly for
him to accomplish anything, Longfellow fears he has wasted his time: half of life is gone . The
difference is that Keats is hopeful that he has the chance to accomplish something. Keats begins each
line with a dependent clause, leaving room for possibility, possibility that his life can become anything
if he wills it. He also includes metaphors to represent the possibility of his success in his writing with
high piled books . This presence of hope is what differentiates Keats from Longfellow. In the middle
of the of When I Have Fears , Keats has a change in tone which also illustrates his hopefulness. He
admires the mystery and power of love with its shadows and magic hand of chance . His enchantment
of the concept reiterates his youthfulness and ignorance to life. While Keats longs for love,
Longfellow has sorrow from care that almost killed him. Longfellow was able to experience love in
his past yet was unhappy with its outcome. Therefore, Keats is in desperation for love as a symbol of
fulfillment, and Longfellow regrets that love has taken away his time ergo not having achieved his

  • 2. Shutter Island, by Dennis Lehane and The Yellow... Gothic tales are known for being mysterious and gloomy. Certain elements are integrated throughout the narrative to create the desired effect, and simultaneously suggest other ideas. Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane and The Yellow Wall Paper by Charlotte Perkins Stetson are significantly similar, by the way both settings highlight the idea of madness. The relationship between setting and madness is induced by the display of physical isolation, disturbing elements, and hallucinatory incidents. To begin, with intent of initiating mystery in gothic stories, the locale is often portrayed as being physically isolated, triggering insanity in the characters. This idea can be demonstrated by the seclusion of the institution for the criminally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, as the patients in Shutter Island are cut off from society and merely exposed to criminally insane people, it is hard for them to come back to a state of sanity. Briefly, physical isolation of the locale in gothic literature finds its way into establishing madness, nevertheless, additional disturbing elements impact on insanity as well. Just in the same way as isolation affects the mental state of characters, disturbing elements in their surroundings can lead to this outcome in the narrative. In Stetson s short story, the description of the room indicates that the windows are barred [...] and there are rings and things in the wall (250). Next to the Saint George Terminal, Richard Marin is looking to create the Empire Outlets, and the New York Wheel, a 630 foot tall Ferris wheel. When Marin started discussing the development project, he already had nearly 200 million dollars set, however, still needed to work out how he was going to get the other 300 million dollars (Hughes, 2015). An article in the New York Post, written by Associated Press (2014), explains that the main goal of this reconstruction is to make Staten Island a place for tourism. The article discusses the fact that millions of people ride the ferry, which is already a main tourist attraction. However, the tourist are not spending any money or time on the Island because they are all going into Manhattan. The goal of the ferris wheel and the shopping complex being created, is to keep tourist occupied during their stay (Press, 2014). Although Staten Island is already over populated and bringing in more people will have the area feeling congested, this is an ideal way of employing hundreds of people. The New York City Economic Development Corporation, states that this project is expecting to create at least four hundred construction jobs and four hundred permanent jobs, ultimately helping the economy grow. • 7. Joyce Carol Oates Short Story Analysis Most teens learn to use irony as a way to avoid telling the truth, tip toeing around the truth. They do this to deal with or avoid issues in their lives that they do not want to face directly. They would prefer to mask their feelings with lies, then be direct and turn to irony to convey emotions they cannot be honest about. In Joyce Carol Oates short story, this is exactly what Sunny does. The understanding and meaning of a free world between Sunny and Zachary display just how differently people view and relate the outside world to their life choices and responsibilities. A discussion could be brought on about this topic, or if teens view it as a free world too, and how they feel about their own responsibilities and choices, in this free world. Oates uses irony in her writing to point out this distinct difference in her two main characters . Sunny saw the world as free of her, but as for Zachary, he did not. Two instances that stand out to me is the portrayal of ECT in an episode of American Horror Story: Asylum and from the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest. Although I realize media is not an accurate representation of reality, these scenes stood out to me due to the intense, emotional display of ECT s effects through the patient s eyes. Despite the unrealistic depiction of ECT, one accurate aspect of the scenes is that ECT was commonly used during the 1960s 1970s to improve mental disturbances and a variety of psychological disorders. I think the reason these scenes stood out to me was that ECT was implemented without the patient s informed consent or agreement upon the treatment regimen, utilized as a way to subdue patients into compliance. Desegregation In 1964 And The Civil Rights Act Of 1964 The Civil Rights Act of 1964, a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement, was passed in order to ban discrimination in public places as well as strengthen the role of the federal government to end segregation in public places. Also included in this act was the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission which was established in order to ensure racial discrimination was not occurring within employment. The aspect of desegregation was not occurring rapidly in Southern states, such as Alabama. Not only was desegregation not occurring quickly under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 but also the act did not address any issues with voting rights among the African American community. The civil rights movement grew strong in southern regions especially racially tense areas such as Selma. In the city of Selma as well as a variety of other southern regions, African Americans were harassed when attempting to practice their fundamental rights of voting through poll taxes and literacy tests. In 1965, only 1% of African Americans were registered to vote in Selma but 50% of Selma s population was African American. In order to address the lack of voting rights, Martin Luther King and the SNCC worked vigorously on setting up marches to overcome the injustice that was occurring in Selma. However, years after the $26.5 billion dollars was spent, no one would question the investment as its revenue has since risen 57% and has become a main source of income for Warren Buffett s company, Berkshire Hathaway (Buhayar, 2014). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Refined oil is the number one product within the United States (Reed, 2010). Furthermore, the means to shipping oil around the country is rail (O Malley, 2014). Thus, Warren Buffets purchase of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad company makes sense. This can be explained by the fact that according to Warren Buffett, the shipment of oil via rail is a cheaper, positive alternative to pipelines (O Malley, 2014). Warren Buffett s purchase of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad shows that Mr. Buffett believes that as hauling via truck becomes more costly due to rising oil prices, a cheap rail system will be preferred (Foroohar, 2012). The reason that rail is a cheap means of shipment is simple, rail uses less fuel to travel. This is evident in the fact that a rail system can haul one ton of goods 500 miles on just one gallon of fuel (O Malley, 2014). One would be hard pressed to find a trucking company that could boast the same. Thus, as fuel prices rise, rail would become more viable. Warren Buffett has personally been quoted stating this by mentioning that energy prices will rise within the United States, allowing his railroad venture to grow more over time (Foroohar, 2012). Furthermore, as pipelines remain controversial and a slow means of shipping oil, rail can solve the problem via expediting oil shipments around the country (O Malley, ... During these times the higher class continued to prosper while the lower class remained at the bottom, the separation continues to grow. Three men vocalize their views on the social division, capitalism, and individualism. Andrew Carnegie, an industrialist, believed the rich should distributed their wealth to benefit society while they re alive. Carnegie elaborates this idea in his article, The Gospel of Wealth, written in 1889. Russell Conwell, a philanthropist, expresses in his speech, Acres of Diamonds, men should utilize their surrounding opportunities to make themselves wealthy. Edward Bellamy, a socialist, wrote Look Backward about a wealthy young man, Julian West, who enters hypnotic sleep in 1887 and awakes 113 years later. The Boston Consulting group (BCG) was brought in to help the company develop a strategic information systems plan to meet its new business objectives. If it was written somewhere else in Palestine it would have not been written in Greek, but rather Aramaic which was the language of Palestine at that time. Since it was written in Greek it is highly unlikely that Matthew was written anywhere in Palestine. The next possibility for the location of Matthew s authorship is Caesarea Maritima, which would make sense since there is a lot of conflict in Matthew with the Pharisees and formative Judaism. Those who lived near Palestine felt this conflict and since Caesarea Maritima is near there this conflict would make sense for a Gospel written in such a location. Though it is highly unlikely that the Gospel was written there since the population was mostly gentile. This is because during the Jewish war most Jews that lived in Caesarea Maritima were either killed or left because they felt threatened. The next possibility as to where the Gospel was written is somewhere in Syria, outside of Antioch, since this is one of the last remaining options that make sense. More specifically scholars think that it may have been written in northeastern Syria since there is a connection between the M material found in Matthew and certain eastern religious traditions in Mithraism, Zoroastrianism, and Buddhism. However the problem with this hypothesis is the language in this area is Syriac, not Greek. Since Matthew was written in Greek it is highly unlikely it was written in Syria outside of Antioch. Structural Vulnerabilities And Link Privacy Structural vulnerabilities and Link Privacy in Social Networks Introduction/Background: In social networks, a link represents a relationship between two nodes in the network. These links can represent email conversations, web surfing, co purchases of two or more products (e.g. Amazon), friendships (e.g. Facebook), followers (e.g. Twitter), etc. Often times these relationships are sensitive and/or confidential in nature [ying wu] and the users are operating under the assumption that their private relationships will not be disclosed. Results: Neighborhood Randomization Using Sub Graph Perturbation In order for people to mine valuable data from social network graphs they must first be given information about the network. Even without explicit information about the nodes, an attacker may use structural information about the nodes and graph itself (e.g. node degree) to identify who the individuals are that the nodes represent. Simple graph wise randomization addresses this problem by deleting k randomly chosen edges and replacing them with k randomly chosen edges, however a problem arises since data miners depend on these structural attributes to properly analyze the social network. Fard and Wang [fard wang] propose a structure aware algorithm for the randomization of social network edges as well as a formal definition of link privacy with respect to a probabilistic threshold. Their motivation is to help conceal sensitive links by using randomization techniques, without disturbing the actual structure of the graph, which is achieved through local neighborhood perturbation. This is needed so that graphs can be analyzed without the link structure being left entirely vulnerable to attackers. The goal of their algorithm is to make it so that an adversary cannot know if a link in the original graph exists from having a link in the new graph. Problem definition: Given a ... • 23. Introduction Of The Cross Border Shopping Cross Border Shopping Introduction Emergence of revolution in the world led to globalization. Hitherto, people gain from the massive and healthy business trades across the borders. In this case, one country is able to gain from selling or buying of goods. At some point, countries realized the importance of creating a global trading arena to encourage the producers from all nations. In this regard, people enjoyed from some exemptions that interfered with flow of goods and service across borders. Despite the vast advantage that parties enjoy in this kind of trade, they face various hurdles, which demoralize them as they perform their business transactions. For instance, changes in the economic status in one of the countries result in reduction in value of goods. Likewise, some traders may suffer due to high rates of taxation in the bordering countries. Understanding the concept of cross border shopping The presence of competition in the indirect tax within the export and import zones leads to the creation of horizontal tax externalities. Vertical tax externalities may also arise between the central and regional government. In most of the cases, both countries tend to maximize revenue through tax collection through purchasing and selling of goods. One party may therefore set policies that aim at in increasing tax collection (Lucas 369). Likewise, the government may also balance the availability of imports in the country by employing certain regulations that minimizes their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They both had started their painting life since 1900, and they had had friendship during their lifetime. Which is easier to compare their artworks by year and find the similarities of how they were influent by each other. Such as Kandinsky s Improvisation and Klee s Colour shape in 1914, Kandinsky s Black Increasing and Klee s Black Knight in 1927. Thus, the four painting would be the artworks to compare. Two artists have the same perspective toward art. First, Kandinsky not only sees colours as different moods but also sees them as the sounds of music. He also assigned instrument tones to go with each colour: Red sounded like a trumpet; Green sounded like a middle position violin; Light Blue sounded like flute; Dark Blue sounded like a cello, Yellow sounded like a fanfare of trumpets; and White sounded like the pause in a harmonious melody. (Kandinsky) It is a special perspective to see or hear art. In the same way, Klee was a musician which found the resemblance between art and music. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Child Support Hearing This week I had the pleasure of sitting in on five hearings. On Monday Magistrate Akel allowed me to observe a child support hearing where both parties were living in Iowa. The initial order was given while the couple lived in Florida. When the father moved to Iowa he was ordered to pay $509.00 dollars a month in child support. The mother sent the child to Iowa to visit his father for a week but the child never came back to Florida. While the child was in the father s custody he continued to pay child support to the mother. During the hearing, the father wanted to ensure that his ex wife placed the money that she owed him into a depository account. The attorney representing the father pointed out that she was behind in paying him back. The attorney as well as the father believed that the she was using the money to support her other children. The mother claimed that all of the money that she owed her ex husband was already in the depository. Magistrate Akel made sure that the mother was aware that if the money was not there she would be held in contempt of court. The next hearing involved timesharing. • 26. The Effects Of Technology In The Hunger Games Technology can change human kinds future and present in various ways that they may not notice or understand. But it is happening everyday and will most likely happen in the future. The book trilogy The Hunger Games shows this very well as people are tricked and scared by technology, media, and war. The Hunger Games is set in the future of North America called Panem, that consists of the wealthy Capitol and 12 districts in varying states of poverty. The trilogy s protagonist Katniss Everdeen, lives in District 12, where people regularly die of starvation. As punishment for a past rebellion against the Capitol, one boy and one girl from each district, are selected to compete in an annual death match called the Hunger Games. The Games are a televised event in which the participants are forced to fight to the death in a public arena. The purposes of the Hunger Games are to provide entertainment for the Capitol and to remind the districts of the Capitol s power and lack of forgiveness for the failed rebellion of the current competitors ancestors. In this book trilogy the capitol and districts use futuristic technology and science to fight. Also, the capitol uses technology with media to confuse and influence people in the country. Two examples of how they used technology and media to trick people can be seen in these media effect theories. • 28. Feminism in Northanger Abbey and Persuasion by Jane Austen Feminism in Northanger Abbey From my point of view, Jane Austen should be seen as a feminist writer. As she wrote in one of her novel Persuasion, she considers that Men have had every advantage of us in telling their own story. Education has been theirs in so much higher a degree; the pen has been in their hands. I will not allow books to prove anything (Anne Elliot, in Jane Austen s Persuasion). Such feminist ideas are expressed in many of her literary works. In her another novel Northanger Abbey, there are various issues discussed, which include not only marriage, social criticism and Gothic, but also feminism as well. The essay is to discuss Jane Austen and her feminist thoughts by analyzing Northanger Abbey. The analysis will cover three aspects. First of all, in her book, Jane Austen expresses the view that both genders possess equal creative and intellectual qualities, and thus women are born to be equal to men. Second, she expresses her skepticism towards the degree of rationality and justice of the common social norms about female behavior. The third aspect is that Austen also insists that women should act for themselves in a rational way rather than merely trying to impress or to please the other sex. First, though Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey is not completely categorized as a feminist novel, by portraying the protagonist Catherine in the way Jane Austen does, she expresses her opinion that women have been individuals with ... Scientists have studied the behavior and have formed two theories; one claiming greed is part of human biology and the other that greed is a result of environmental conditioning, there is sufficient evidence for both (Robinson). Richard Talflinger, an expert in human behavior at Washington State University, describes greed as an instinctive response to a human condition. Given that Banksy is quite popular and well known, his reputation reinforces his credibility as an opinionated street artist, but not as a credible resource in regards to immigration policy and government aid. Banksy s affinity towards political and socially controversial art makes it easy to understand his interests in issues surrounding the treatment of migrants, refugees, and humanitarianism. • 40. Key Benefits Of A Secured Loan In the current economic climate where loans are not so readily available as they used to be it is useful to know what your options are before applying for a loan. Secured Loans A secured loan is a loan that is secured on your property, and is available to people that have a mortgage on their property who also have enough equity left in their property. The maximum LTV (loan to value) allowable if you have a good credit history is currently 85% i.e. the total of your loan and mortgage debt must be less than 85% of the value of your property. One of the main benefits of a secured loan is that the lender is more likely to lend you money because they put a second charge on your property (behind the charge that your mortgage lender has in place) which makes the loan a safer bet for them if you default on your repayments. You can also borrow larger loan amounts for longer terms than you can with an unsecured loan. Unsecured Loans An unsecured loan is a loan that is underwritten based on your personal circumstances, i.e. the lender will look at your income and your outgoings and they will also look at your credit record. Although the loan is unsecured the lenders are more likley to lend to homeowners than they are to tenants, for the simple reason that should you default on your repayments the lender will look to put a charge on your property in order to recover their money. Soon after Delany, a ranch worker was fired, the railroad used him to act as a dummy buyer and buy the land. There was no way Delany could actually afforded to buy the land on his own; he was obviously acting as the railroad s pawn, sent to aggravate the ranchers who leased farms from the railroad. The railroad also tampered with other types of characters in the story. Dyke was fired from his job at the railroad after he refused to work for the rates of a man doing half the work he was doing. Then after Dyke mortgaged his land to the railroad, they raised the rates on the crop he was producing. They drove him to poverty and when he tried to take back what they had stolen from him by robbing money from one of their trains, they had him thrown in jail for life. This is another example of how Norris evinces the railroads unethical treatment of the common man in California at the time.Shelgrim, the executive of the P. and S.W. tried to justify the railroad s actions, and in a way, pass on the responsibility, by calling the railroad a force, something that he had no control over. In the middle of the of When I Have Fears , Keats has a change in tone which also illustrates his hopefulness. He admires the mystery and power of love with its shadows and magic hand of chance . His enchantment of the concept reiterates his youthfulness and ignorance to life. While Keats longs for love, Longfellow has sorrow from care that almost killed him. Longfellow was able to experience love in his past yet was unhappy with its outcome. Therefore, Keats is in desperation for love as a symbol of fulfillment, and Longfellow regrets that love has taken away his time ergo not having achieved his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
