Death like life is an inevitable occurrence in the human...
Death like life is an inevitable occurrence in the human experience and according to Sigmund Freud,
Although we know that after such a loss the acute state of mourning will subside, we also know we
shall remain inconsolable and will never find a substitute . Hence, the management of the effects of
death becomes necessary to the healing of the human spirit as one tries to cope with the extensive loss
and pain associated with losing a loved one. Freud further stated that this gap result in the only way of
perpetuating love which we do not want to let go of. This gap , according to Freud, has a great impact
on the psychological and spiritual well being of human beings and as such the study of Sudden Death
is essential to the modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They breach the attachments of family, friendship, love, and community; shatter the construction of
the self that is formed and sustained in relation to others; undermine the belief systems that give
meaning to human experience; and violate the victim s faith in a natural or divine order and cast the
victim into a state of existential crisis (Herman, 1992, p.51).
Within this context, sudden deaths are more likely to involve domestic violence, accidents, mutilation,
stirring the worst imaginations in the bereaved. In some circumstances, the survivor cannot see the
body, thus adding to the problem of failing to accept the finality of the loss. Losing a loved one
suddenly in a tragic event is hard and hence there is no escaping one s sense of pain and loss if a
return to normal life is going to occur.
Following a sudden or violent death, other stressful and traumatic events may occur. These include the
sight of the injured or maimed body, the arrival of the police and/or medical personnel, efforts to assist
the injured, the grief reactions of other witnesses, and the survivor s separation from the love one
body. These secondary traumas are encoded as intrusive memories that interfere with the survivor s
ability to mourn, because the survivor cannot remember the parent without also remembering and

How Does Darl Lose His Mother s Death
Jake Barns, in Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises, and Darl Bundren in William Faulkner s As I
Lay Dying both have a certain desire, throughout their respective novels, for the affection and
attention of a particular woman in their lives. For Jake it is Brett, and for Darl it is his own mother,
Addie Bundren. However due to unfortunate occurrences in their lives, they can no longer gain that
love and affection. Daryl and Jake both seek for the attraction of a woman in their life but due to
circumstances they cannot have that affection and both authors both present this idea of having an
increased desire for this you can no longer have through different complexities of thought and
sentence structure.

As his mother s life began to deprive more and more Darl feels as if a force ..was driving him from his
mother s death bed, never to see her in this world again (Faulkner, 15). Darl feels there is a wedge
between him and his mother that is continuing to grow and drive them further and further apart as she
continues to die. The other characters that narrate the story tell about the comparison between Darl
and his mother and believes that ...he was the only one of them that had his mothers nature, had any
natural affection (Faulkner, 15). The other characters see him as being the most similar to the mother
and the person who showed the most affection for his mother, but his mother continued to neglect him.
He sets out to try to and impress her and be the favorite. However Darl is envious of the affection
Jewel receives. He is angered because has no interest in the affection being granted. Darl says he ...can
not love my mother because I have no mother, Jewel s mother is a horse (Faulkner, 61). Darl is jealous
of the affection his brother got from his mother. His brother was abusive and violent and resented his
mother while she continued to try and show affection to Jewel. Hemingway makes sure to come
straight out and give us direct thoughts straight from the characters. Faulkner presents the same idea as
Hemingway but uses different thought process and different thought and sentence

Questions On Quantitative And Qualitative Research
Other Approaches to Research In the 20th century researchers developed other research designs that
draw on quantitative and qualitative elements. Mixed methods, action research, and program
evaluation follow the research design process of quantitative and qualitative research. Action research
and program evaluation however are not applied research designs.
Mixed Methods As the name implies, mixed methods research combines both quantitative and
qualitative components to add depth and breadth to the research study (Laureate Education, Inc., n.d.
g). As with quantitative and qualitative research methodology, mixed methods researchers begin with
the research question that will guide the type of data collected, do an extensive literature ... Show

Like qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research, action researchers reflect on their practice,
and then define a problem within it, gather data, review the literature, identify colleagues who will
collaborate in the action research process, carry out the action plan, analyze the data, and form
possible conclusions (Lodico, Spaulding, Voegtle, 2010). Multiple types of data are collected.
Researchers use a triangulation matrix to corroborate their results. Unlike applied research, action
researchers do not use complicated statistical analysis to measure quantitative data. They also do not
provide the deep level of analysis found in qualitative research. However, action researchers can and
do use descriptive statistics, coding, and triangulation to detect possible themes that emerge from the
data, thereby ensuring their results are credible and dependable (Lodico, Spaulding, Voegtle, 2010).
There are two types of action research: critical action research and practical action research. In critical
action research, the researcher attempts to address major societal issues, such as sexism, racism, or
other types of injustice within an educational system (Lodico, Spaulding, Voegtle, 2010). In contrast,
practical action research involves making changes to educational systems, but the changes are smaller
and happen

Political Equality In Martin Luther King s I Have A Dream
This political representation and the economic equality that King advocates for manifest into a third
form of equality. As the African American community would begin to gain capital to build a solid
infrastructure for their communities or begin the transition and facilitated diffusion into areas with
affluence and or resources by way of legislation mandating the integration of public facilities, they
would have more education, opportunity to jobs, and access to an entire race of people for love so that
it was no longer prohibited. This equality is social equality, or the premise of equity in the public such
as in love or education.
This equality would revolutionize the times as, again, there was a specific subordination associated
with African American communities associated with them being inhuman as a justification for the
slave trade. The process of achieving social equality not only meant that this idea of African
Americans as inhuman and subordinate had to be totally discredited as they could then be equals with
Caucasian populations. It also meant that the African American society had the opportunity of social
mobility whether it be educational status, fiscal class, or both. This threatened the elitism of the
majority Caucasian population. It was also revolutionary because the process of desegregation would
then mean that African Americans would be able to enter the same neighborhoods as the Caucasian
population.

The Principle Of Population By Thomas Malthus

Thomas Malthus 1798 An Essay on the Principle of Population, Chapter 1
Thomas Malthus was an English philosopher who lived from 1766 to 1834, An Essay on the Principle
of Population, is one of the most influential pieces of writing in history. Not only did it help to
establish the modern field of economics, it aided Charles Darwin on his regarding evolutionary
science. Malthus core argument that runs a majority of the book is dedicated to the Iron Law of
Population . This essay will seek to examine the premises of Thomas Malthus 1798 an Essay on the
Principle of Population and conclude on its argument as well as provide a justification of the invalidity
of the argument. In addition, it will identify its multiple influences on historical contexts throughout
time.
The most persistent theory written by Thomas Malthus in 1798 regarding population growth and the
effects on humanity, which is rather ironic as it has a almost lack of connection to the actual history of
humanity and its population growth. In 100CE the population of the Earth was estimated to be under
one billion people, roughly at 200 million people, following on almost 2 millennia later to 1800CE the
population had seen a mere growth to approximately 800 million. During this time Malthus wrote a
piece regarding the slow growth in population and why this was rate was the way things would be for
the rest of human life. He put forward that the limits of human population growth are due to

Take some special care with this problem. A college education can increase a workers productivity in
various ways. Generally a college graduate enters into the labour market with more knowledge and
higher skills than a non college graduate. These higher skills can be improved thinking, writing,
communication and problem solving; which increase productivity. The thinking processes increases
the application of their knowledge which increases their productivity and efficiency. Also a college

Our Society Is The Waste Of Money
In an increasingly accessible world, people often take material objects for granted. As technology
progresses, people become obsessed with obtaining newer products. Every time Apple announces a
new product, everyone eagerly awaits its release. One of these products is the iPhone. Unfortunately,
the iPhone that symbolizes convenient communication and social progress also represents the material
obsession that is a characteristic of contemporary society. Even though there are positive and negative
connotations of materialistic obsession, ultimately, the symbol of the iPhone represents the distressing
side of our society. One of the most prevalent issues in our society is the waste of money. The iPhone
became the icon, the trend that everyone needs to get their hands on, no matter the cost. People used to
replace their phones only when they were damaged, but now they replace them for no reason except
the desire for something new. The cheapest price for a new iPhone 7 with 32GB is $649 plus tax. This
means that if people wants more gigabytes or accessories, the price would be significantly higher.
Even though iPhones are useful, the money spent on unnecessary replacements is wasteful. According
to CNN, a Chinese billionaire s son, Wang Sicong purchased eight iPhone 7 handsets for his dog on
the day of the release (Griffiths). He has taken the lavish spending of money to a new level. In fact,
this is not the first time he wastefully spent money. Wang Sicong previously

Boyce Lab Report
Preliminary Data:
Preliminary work was preformed by Nathan Cox in the Boyce Lab to examine the functional
significance of O GlcNAcylation in the COPII pathway. Perturbation of O GlcNAcylation through
Thiamet G, an OGA inhibitor, was assessed using a well established VSV G eGFP reporter assay
Citations. The trafficking of a temperature sensitive VSV G eGFP mutant that is transported by COPII
from the ER to the Golgi at the permissive temperature can be evaluated by the development of
characteristic juxanuclear punctate fluorescence (Golgi) from diffuse/reticular fluorescence (ER) over
time. Treatment with Thiamet G slowed Golgi accumulation of VSV G eGFP, indicating that OGA
activity is required for normal COPII trafficking (Figure 1).

Capturing O GlcNAc mediated protein protein interactions is challenging due to the low affinity, sub
stoichiometric and transient nature of the modification. Using a synthetic O GlcNAc analog
containing a diazirine photocrosslinking moiety (GlcNDAz), we are able to label native O
GlcNAcylated substrates in live cells and crosslink them to nearby glycosylation mediated binding
partners upon UV treatment 13. In experiments performed by Abhisheck Chhetri, Tim Smith and
Thomas Meister, the Boyce lab showed that endogenous and recombinant Myc 6xHis tagged Sec24C
exhibit GlcNDAz and UV dependent crosslinking (Figure 2). Two other Sec24 paralogs, Sec24A and
Sec24B, also show GlcNDAz dependent crosslinking. Additionally, through collaboration with Duke s

Evaluation Of The Chicago Maternity Center
If a sweeping pestilence struck down as many women in a community as are taken in childbirth we
would immediately be aroused, claimed Beatrice E. Tucker, Director and Associate Obstetrician of
The Chicago Maternity Center. Beatrice was determined to helped needed women, in a needed
community, in Chicago. (Tucker, Beatrice E., and Harry B. Benaron, 1) The Chicago Maternity Center
was founded in 1895, by Dr. Joseph DeLee. However, it was led and directed by Dr. Beatrice Tucker,
accompanied by her partner Dr. Harry Benaron. The center was opened from 1932 until 1973. The
center provided free obstetrical care for poor women while at the same time helping doctors train for
the latest methods to as well provide safe delivery for these women (Simpson, 1). The center wasn t
such a famous hospital or clinic as the time. It also wasn t located by means of a medical school, such
as the University of Chicago. Instead, the Chicago Maternity Center was located at 1334 South
Newberry Street, centered at Chicago s West Side. The reason for this was because, when Beatrice
Tucker became the Chicago Maternity Center s leader, the community was trapped as a desperate poor
immigrant working class (Simpson, 1). Therefore, the center had two purposes. The first, was to care
for and treat poor women, in childbirth, right at their homes. Second, was to teach doctors, medical
students, and nurses the science and art of obstetrics (Tucker, Beatrice E., and Harry B. Benaron, 1).

Beaded Christmas Observation
Pictured above is a hobby that I am interested in trying, beaded Christmas ornaments and these are
way different than from the ones in the late 1960 s. There are kits available at stores and online of
course but many times I do not have the time to learn a new hobby. Eventually I will find the time to
make these ornaments. I like the way they are displayed on their own arm hooks, they look so dainty
and festive and the colors can be changed for the holidays and not necessary ornaments for Christmas.
The person who did these ornaments is creative and of course has the time to do something they love
and not consider it work. By the way the room is situated this person is very organized as well. It also

Obesity Is A Disease Characterized By Excessive Body Fat
Obesity is a disease characterized by excessive body fat. People who are medically obese usually are
affected by behavior, genetic and environmental factors that are difficult to control with dieting.
Obesity increases the likelihood of certain diseases especially cardiovascular disorders and diabetes.
Obesity has become a pandemic nowadays. In the Indian scenario, even with the growing awareness
about health and fitness, more than 3 percent (3 crores) of the Indian population is obese.
Our study aims to determine the association of BMIwith cardiac output, forearm and calf blood flow
in healthy young male adults. Our results are consistent with our hypothesis.
Cardiac output was found to be significantly more in obese subjects compared to overweight and
normal BMI group. Similar results were found in other studies too. Obese individuals have expanded
central blood volume. In addition, stroke volume and cardiac output are both increased. These changes
in blood volume and cardiac output are most likely due to the increased metabolic demand that result
from increases in both lean and fat mass. The large fat depots in significant obesity produce a low
resistance vascular circuit that may further increase cardiac output. There may also be changes in renal
absorption of salt and water. The combination of these factors is proposed to produce a form of
volume overload which can give rise to high output failure later. [24][25]
Another study revealed that obese patients demonstrated

steady growth and influence of society for over twenty years now. Three authors, Neil Postman,
Daniel Solove, and Walter Lippmann have explored how various media and symbols have shaped
society through history to today. Postman, in Amusing Ourselves to Death, Public Discourse in Age of

the news, and particularly politics into forms of entertainment. In his book, future of reputation, David
Solove argues, the law must meet the challenge to address these ever changing technologies effect on
one s reputation and strive to protect the privacy while ensuring the freedom of speech. In the book,
Public Opinion, author Walter Lippmann, explores how symbols are planted by authority figures to
corral the public into their camp. While each author takes a different approach, each provides insights
into a changing world and a route for an informed society to achieve better citizenship.

Youth Culture and Social Change
Youth Culture and Social Change
Introduction
Culture can be defined as the shared values, customs, beliefs, behaviours and knowledge of a
particular group or society.[1] Similarly, youth culture refers to the shared values, etc. of individuals in
their teenage and young adult years. During the last century, the world around us has changed greatly,
and as a result of this, so too has youth culture changed. In this investigation, the ways in which social
change has influenced youth culture from the 1960 s to today will be explored and how changes in
factors such as the media and technology, male/female roles in relationships, attitudes towards parents
and elders and values have played a part in shaping this.

was not generally available and condoms were only available from chemists and barbers and at three

Today, teenagers and young adults are not only taught by their parents but also through the media
about a relationship. This has brought about a generation where the male and female sex can be seen
to be more equal in their roles in relationships. For example, it is becoming more and more common
for a girl to ask a guy to go out to catch a movie, hit a club, or just hang out. However, according to
Tresize, this change has also caused some confusion to males in relationships. We now get mixed
messages from partners in relationships. There are some girls who want the guy in a relationship to be
either strong or vulnerable, or take charge or not to dominate. It s confusing! Following the sexual
revolution in the late 60 s, sexual behavior in relationships has also been normalised by the media.
With an increase in teenage dramas on TV, teenagers and young adults are now witnessing scenes that

Personal Reflection of Media Use Essay
Over the past week I have been keeping track of my media use. I discovered I lead a pretty repetitive
technological lifestyle. Weekday mornings I start my media consumption via my alarm clock on my
cell phone. Why not use the regular alarm clock? Because with a cell phone I do not have to get up
and out of bed in the morning the snooze button is even closer to my barely awake fingertips. After
hitting the snooze button at least once I make a point to check out Facebook because we all know

Definition Of Corporate Social Responsibility
Rogers Telecom s definition of corporate social responsibility is similar to the ISO 26000 in
addressing the seven principle subjects, organizational governance, human rights, labour practices, the
environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues, and community involvement and
development. Although, not all issues belonging to these principles were addressed. The strongest
attributes of the Rogers CSR definition supported by their 2013 CSR report are organizational
governance, fair operating practices, consumer issues, community involvement and development, and
the environment. The weaker attributes of the Rogers CSR definition supported by their 2013 CSR
report are human rights and labour practices. Organizational governance and fair operating practices
were evident in both Rogers Telecom s CSR definition and report as they were frequently mentioned
as an important factor in all business activities. Specifically, Rogers addressed two issues under the
fair operating practices principle, anti corruption and fair competition. Rogers approach in addressing
the issue of anti corruption is to adhere to the Rogers Business Conduct Guidelines, guidelines that
define the expected behaviour from all employees in standards of business conduct, integrity and
ethical behaviour. In addition, Rogers Board of Directors must also comply with these guidelines as
well as a separate, Directors Code of Conduct and Ethics. Furthermore, Roger s combats anti
corruption with their whistle

The Four Major Aspects Of The Mabling Values Framework
The competing values framework is a theory that was initially created from Quin s research that was
carried out on the major indicators of effective organisations. Stability, control, flexibility and change
(adaptation) was the theorist s preference when composing this structure within the framework. Doing
so added additional dimensions in this organisational cultures theory. The four major models that
comprise of the competing values framework are the Humans relations Model, the Open Systems
Model, Rational Goal Model and the Internal Process Model. It is through these four fundamental
models that this theory develops its main cultures which are the clan culture, the adhocracy culture,
the market culture and lastly the hierarchy culture. The fact that New York has five mafia families
working the streets in its self is the penicil of the clan culture. The boss or the don is the leader of each
clan or mob or family or schmucks (the last one was only if they did a silly thing). Any of the given
five families love to adapt to their environment using steel and iron. They call them Uzi s. I call them
guns. Through the use their tools, they can create a hierarchy within their own families and others to
ensure they stay on top. They are also able to compete in their target market using those brass bullets
I.e. if someone is on their turf that shouldn t be, they kill them or tell them to go away. The adhocracy
culture I believe is where they thrive however. Gone are the days

The Reflection Of Martin Luther s Theory Of Music
Unsurprisingly given what discussed so far, Luther had an extremely high view of music and of what
this could accomplish where this was true in particular with reference to the sphere of worship and of
church services . In this sense, he was of the opinion that by praising God in music, the latter acted as
a bridge allowing for the possibility of relishing God s absolute and perfect wisdom, by seeing its
reflection in his work of music itself. Accordingly always in the Preface to the Symphoniae Iucundae
Luther presented music as something able to connect the whole of creation with its creation. In Loewe
s words, the Preface «follows an arc that takes as its origin the very beginning of creation and
descends from God to those who have been given a voice, in order to return to heaven through
composed music: Luther explained that the praises sung by his readers had the potential to take the
singers straight back to heaven, and the ultimate origin and goal of music». Hence, by becoming
consciously musical that is, by actively producing music as opposed to just sounding we come to
reflective express and formulate one the basic aspects of creation . In this way, composed music
amplifies and shapes natural music and another belief which Luther shared with Herbenus this way
conjoins the musica humana and musica caelestis. Then, by being musical by producing music meant
to be performed in church we turn creation as it were, in the aspect of its musicality back to

The Origin Of Smart City Movement
As the world experiences rapid advancement, the continuing population growth and urbanization are
inevitable. More population are now live in urban areas than the rural areas.
54 % of the world s population are residing in urban areas in 2014. It forecast increase to 66 percent or
an addition of 2.5 billion people in 2050 (United Nation, 2014). With this continuing of urbanization,
the cities indicate a suffer on its fundamental functionalities to services citizens as a liveable place
(Borja, 2007; Toppeta, 2010). This rapid transition raises the need in integrated policies to improve
lives (United Nation, 2014). This gives birth of the new urban development concept leveraging new
innovation introduced in the cities (Nam and Pardo, 2011).
The origin of Smart City movement is dated back since late 1990 s (Bollier, 1998). The term has been
adopted and advocated by many technologies services companies such as IBM (2009) and Cisco
(2005). It was a promotion of the integration of information systems into urban infrastructure and
services (Harrison and Donnelly, 2011).
This is a result of globalization and diffusion of technologies; cities growth process has been
influenced greatly by these two factors. Information communication technology (ICT) is now playing
an important role in governance and management of the cities in various sectors e.g. government
services, transport and traffic management, energy, health care, water, innovative urban agriculture
and waste management

novels at the beginning of his writing career, Time for a Tiger, The Enemy in the Blanket, and Beds in
the East to his most well known novel, A Clockwork Orange (The International Anthony Burgess

A couple of years after his father remarried, Burgess would begin writing his earliest published poems
and short stories. Similar to many children today, Burgess despised his stepmother, declaring how she
subscribed to all the current bigotries. The relationship between father and son was not the ideal
relationship either, his father, to an extent, still blamed him for his mother s death. Burgess did not
only lose his mother, but he would lose his father as well, gaining a mostly absent drunk who called
himself a father (Burgess). Before Burgess could even speak, he lost his mother, and the affection of
his father.
Burgess was schooled at St. Edmund s Elementary School before moving to Bishop Bilsborrow

A traitor is someone who defies or betrays a country, but Adelard only helped Canada grow and
become more progressive. Therefore, this is a reason among many why I personally believe he is not a
traitor. Next, Jacques attempt to shine light on Adelard Godbout s progressiveness also led to the
unveiling of traits that may describe a traitor . Adelard was viewed as a traitor to the French Canadians
for multiple reason but mostly for trying to conscript them into the war, and his good relationship with
Mackenzie King. His action to send a military to fight Hitler was derived from the Nazi s saying: To
conquer Eastern Canada, we must subjugate French Canadians . Andre Laurendeau drew comparison
from the way English Canadians oppressed French Canadians in the same way Hitler oppressed
smaller nations like Poland. In the height of his political career, Adelard continued to push for
conscription which led to the Conscription Crisis of 1944. This was a less drastic version of the
Conscription Crisis of 1917, which Mackenzie King tried very hard not to replicate. In fact,
Mackenzie King s negative view on conscription was caused by his experience with it in 1914, which
is why he always voted against it when he had political clout. Adelard got very serious backlash from

afterwards, Hattie commanded Ella to not be friends with Areida. Throughout the book and the movie,
Hattie and Olive are always jealous of Ella s beauty and of how well mannered she is and yet they

How Does Voltaire Portray Women
Laurent Bélanger
Supervisor: Lucy Grove
English Literature
March 2016 How does Voltaire portray women in Candide?
Women in the 18th Century enjoyed very few privileges when it came to their expected gender roles
within society. As he did other aspects of the culture of his time, Voltaire exposes this stark inequality
in the satirical Candide, especially through the lack of many female characters in the novel and his
characterisation of Cunégonde, Paquette and the Old Woman. Their initial lack of complexity and
surprisingly similar lives despite strikingly different origins highlight the coarse existence of women
in the 18th Century. Additionally, Voltaire s portrayal of sexual exploitation as completely habitual
seeks to underline women s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, her noble status wraps her in a sense of grandeur, and yet, by the the novel s second chapter,
she is practically exposed as a typical damsel in distress, fainting at
Candide s expulsion from the Baron s castle, the earliest sign of trouble . Unlike these two characters,
the third significant female figure in Candide the Old Woman is neither pretty, tractable, nor grand. In
fact, she lacks characterisation upon her first appearance, introduced merely as an old woman
(Voltaire, 16), a name she retains until the novel s end. Thus, the novel s three primary female
characters appear, at first, to be little more than archetypal characters, despite their later evolution: the
pretty maid, the damsel in distress and the witch like servant. It is this apparent lack of character
development which illustrates the insignificance of women s roles in 18th Century society.
Regardless of this apparent lack of complexity, Voltaire depicts women in Candide perhaps
surprisingly as survivors, highlighting a crucial aspect of women s existence in the society of the day.
Following the Bulgar attack on the Baron s castle, the raping of Cunégonde
until she could be raped no more and her subsequent disembowel[ment] (Voltaire, 10), the reader
naturally assumes her death; it is therefore a great surprise when she reappears in the novel s seventh
chapter. Similarly, the Old Woman, raped

The Carboxylate Group In Tamiflu
Additional questions:
1. Why would removing the carboxylate groups result in the compound s activity being nullified?
The carboxylate group in Tamiflu provides it with a strong ionic interaction with an arginine residue.
This interaction will hold the drug molecule in place in the binding pocket of the enzyme, allowing it
to elicit an effect. Removal of this group would result in the arginine Tamiflu interaction being
removed, which would result in a poorer affinity for the binding pocket. The Tamiflu molecule will be
far less likely to exhibit good binding and therefore the biological effect of the drug would be
diminished.
2. Identify the binding groups and their optimal alignment with one another, paying particular
attention to the hydrogen bonds. Provide at least one example for each type of interaction.
a. Hydrophobic
The non polar chain attached to the ether in Tamiflu has a non polar interaction with the side chain of
a glutamic acid residue, where the residue fits in between the two side chains of the Tamiflu.
b. Hydrogen bonds
The amide of Tamiflu forms a hydrogen bond with the guanidine group of an arginine residue. The
nitrogen of the guanidine acts as a hydrogen bond donor and the amide of the Tamiflu molecule acts as
a hydrogen bond acceptor.
The NH2 group of the Tamiflu also forms hydrogen bonds with an aspartic acid residue, where NH2 is
the hydrogen bond donor and COO is the hydrogen bond acceptor.
c. Ionic interactions

The referendum in 1993 brought about change, not just political change which by its nature is to be

with the collapse of the Berlin Wall in the late 1980s there was a change in political parties and

Why Athletes Are Good Role Models
Why Athletes Are Good Role Models Ever since the ancient years, we have admired athletes and the
hard work that they do to achieve their goal of winning. We idolize them and wish we were more like
them. What happens though when the realization sinks in that they are human too and that some of
them do get greedy and selfish? A lot of athletes are model citizens that you should really look up to,
but there are also some bad apples in the bunch that ruin it for everyone. Athletes can inspire young
people to work hard so that their efforts can pay off, but no one is pure and flawless. Greed does take a

How is suspense created and maintained in The Monkey s Paw...
In The Monkey s Paw written by W.W. Jacobs and The Red Room written by H.G. Wells, there are
many similarities and differences in the ways the stories are written and suspense created. For
example, both stories belong to the horror genre where the supernatural appears due to human
interferences, and both have a fast and frantic climax where the characters lives are put in jeopardy.
However they do differ in places, one of the key differences being that The Monkey s Paw is written
in third person whereas The Red Room is a narrative.
W.W Jacobs uses many different techniques in The Monkey s Paw to build up an atmosphere of
suspense and uneasiness. One way this is done is by Jacob s description of the White family s
location, a bleak, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jacobs uses his characters even further to build up suspense by describing their physical reaction as
well as their dialogue. Mr White s brow cold with sweat shows us how his fear has lead him to the
point of sweating proving that he is afraid of the wish he just made. This also convinces the reader that
the paw holds forces not to be reckoned with and that if Herbert did come back it would be a horrific
rather than cheerful moment. Also Mr White caught his breath when ordered to find the paw, showing
that he was scared and dreaded the moment when he would have to wish for his son back as he knew
it would lead to doom. This realisation of the potential hazards they would face if Herbert were
brought back creates fear and suspense. The description of the character s physical actions is very
useful, as it depicts the emotions and thoughts of a character to an extent that dialogue cannot.
The contrast of light and darkness within the story is used alongside the characters to create suspense.
At the beginning of the story, it was dark, which gave the reader an ominous impression. For example
Mr White was going down the stairs to make a wish to bring Herbert back while it was so dark, he had
to feel his way around. The darkness generates fear, as it is hard to be sure what is lurking around the
corner, and what you might bump in to. Jacobs then contrasts this with the light of the next morning,
which provides a break from the suspense. However it

The Empire Of The Seljuk Ottoman Empire
One of the small Turkish nomadic tribes in Anatolia during the 13th century was a dynasty named
after the ruler Osman, the Ottomans. This small state emerged in Anatolia during the breakdown of the
empire of the Seljuk Turks. The Ottomans quickly became an undeniable force and ended all other
Turkish dynasties. The Ottoman Empire became one of the largest and longest lasting empires in the
world, ruling the majority of the Middle East, northern Africa and southeastern Europe for over 600
years until its eventual fall in 1922.
The Ottomans were one of the numbers of Turkish tribes that migrated from Central Asia. Initially
they followed a primitive shamanistic religion. Their contacts with various tribes led to the
introduction of Islam and they acquired their greatest combat tradition, that of the ghazi warrior. The
first period of the Ottoman history was characterized by almost continuous territorial expansion. The
Ottoman dominion spread out from a small Anatolian principality to cover a major amount of land in
Middle East and southeastern Europe.
Following the final defeat of the Seljuk Empire in 1293, Osman, the founder of the Ottoman dynasty,
led his principality to take over Byzantine Bithynia in northwestern Anatolia, commanded the ghazis
against the Byzantines. Osman and his successors concentrated their attacks on Byzantine territories
bordering the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara to the west. The Ottomans took advantage of the

President Fdr s New Deal
At the peak of the Great Depression in 1932 the unemployment rate stood at 25 percent and the Dow
Jones Average sunk to a mere 34, indicating severe economic distress.1 Millions of individuals were
starving on the streets and billions of dollars were lost in the stock market. When Franklin Roosevelt
released the New Deal in 1933, a plan to provide relief, reform, and recovery to the distressed country,
Americans were in dire need of relief. Recognizing that something had to be done quickly, President
FDR implemented a series of programs to immediately mitigate the effects of the Depression. By
focusing on programs to aid business and labor, farmers, housing and homeowners, banks and the
stock market, and the youth of America, FDR attempted to provide the immediate relief from the
Great Depression that America so desperately needed. Although some of the programs in the New
Deal were more successful than others, they succeeded as a whole in providing the short term relief
that America needed to survive the Great Depression. The first major relief program for businesses
and labor was the Federal Emergency Relief Act. Released in 1933, the FERA created the Federal
Emergency Relief Administration, an agency that not only distributed federal aid to states for relief,
but also provided state directed work to boost the morale of the recipients.2 As Harry Hopkins,

order to present their experiences of Korean Wave, this paper will be divided into four sections. The
first section will describe demographic characteristics of the Korean Wave group in Asia. The second
section is a literature review refering to the cultural background of Korean Wave including Korean

This culture is often called individualism. Moreover, Hofstede (1980), noted that power distance in a
culture, which means the difference between the lowest and highest member. Highest member refer to
a person or a group always makes the decision; people who always have input is belong to lowest
member. For example, Korean drama considers family oriented stories in which father has the power
in the family, and other members of family usually defer to him. However, in Western society, parents
cultivate their child to be more creative, and give them more freedom to choose their future education
and career. Therefore, In Western culture, a child can make such decisions himself, while, in Korean
culture, children are more likely to defer to their father. Futhurmoer, Western modernity and Asian
traditions has formed striking comparison. In 18 century, Western societies had rised the evolution of
post modernity that suggests the end of original culture, art, subject and history. The production of
post modernity includes the internet, cars, digital computers and so on (Venn Featherstone, 2006,
p.462). Modernity refers a new way of lifestyle and social system. Asian traditions advocate the
beliefs, rituals, morals, values and customers in which human being have been passed down from their
ancestors (O Shannessy Minett, 2008, p.33). Especially, Taoism and Confucianism have had a

Essay about Three Versions of The Demon Lover Contain a...
All three versions of The Demon Lover has the same common messages: to be careful in trust, be
careful of the vows you make, and that the decisions of the young often come back around negatively.
All three pieces exemplify these messages heavily. Of all of the works maintaining these themes,
Elizabeth Bowen s The Demon Lover displays these messages the most vehemently. Bowen s version
of The Demon Lover take on the principles of Harris The Demon Lover and makes the ideals more
noticeable to the novice reader. Kathleen/Mrs. Drover is a perfect rendition of the original. She
blatantly displays youth, as well as a true inability to make or remember promises made during major
events in her life. It is quite peculiar that the young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One must read this piece multiple times before its true genius can be seen; this story is much like
peeling an onion, tear jerking hard work included. It is revealed in this story that she does not fit the
common portrayal of the protagonized woman, as [she is] thirty four years old after all... (Jackson 1),
which clearly puts her as an outlier for her nativity and rash decisions. The Scottish Ballad The
Daemon Lover is the most simple and direct interpretation of the concept. It is quite interesting to see
that this piece still exists considering how long it took to write it down. One of the ballad s major flaw
is its consistent repetition, such as Now I am come for the vows you promised me, /You promised me
long ago; / My former vows you must forgive,/For I m a wedded wife (Unknown 2). All most all of
the woman s first arguments are stomped down by the rest of the story. It is interesting to note how
similar The House Carpenter by Bob Dylan is to the original Demon Lover.
All three versions of The Demon Lover has the same common messages: to be careful in trust, be

Introduction The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the limitations of equipment that is used to detect
deception and examine whether the forensic discipline aligns with The Daubert Standard of
Admissibility. In regards to the types of equipment used to detect deception, the most common piece
of equipment is the polygraph. However, as with every piece of equipment, it comes with flaws and
deficiencies. In regards to the deception detection equipment including the polygraph, various
limitations exist that include the lack of validity of the results gathered and the uncertainty associated
with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when detection methods are used for investing certain crimes, it is obvious that with the
use of detection deception equipment that uncertainty will arise. (Jalab, Shivakumara, Sadeghi,
AbdulWahab, Uliyan, 2016) In a case of examining to detect whether any species within an
organization are being deceptive, the equipment might fail to provide precise knowledge of any
criminal events or situations that may or may not occurred. The considerations about the capabilities
of the polygraph tests to procure authentic and precise responses can create uncertainty. Such
occurrences of uncertainty can impair the definitiveness among tests such as these. Legitimacy is also
jeopardized when the tests are used to control future examinations as they incorporate the equipment
used for detecting deception is the issue when the tests effectiveness is in question. Equipment such as
the polygraph fails to validate and authenticate accusations about the person(s) in question. The NRC
governed a research study about the legitimacy of polygraph testing that assists in the knowledge of
being aware of the differences associated with someone who is being dishonest and someone who is
being truthful when placed in various settings. (Jalab, Shivakumara, Sadeghi, AbdulWahab, Uliyan,
2016) To measure the certainty of such tests, the NRC Committee was sent to gather pertinent
evidence and material from various published and unpublished studies that had been

Death like life is an inevitable occurrence in the human experience and according to Sigmund Freud, Although we know that after such a loss the acute state of mourning will subside, we also know we shall remain inconsolable and will never find a substitute . Hence, the management of the effects of death becomes necessary to the healing of the human spirit as one tries to cope with the extensive loss and pain associated with losing a loved one. Freud further stated that this gap result in the only way of perpetuating love which we do not want to let go of. Within this context, sudden deaths are more likely to involve domestic violence, accidents, mutilation, stirring the worst imaginations in the bereaved. In some circumstances, the survivor cannot see the body, thus adding to the problem of failing to accept the finality of the loss. Losing a loved one suddenly in a tragic event is hard and hence there is no escaping one s sense of pain and loss if a return to normal life is going to occur. Following a sudden or violent death, other stressful and traumatic events may occur. These include the sight of the injured or maimed body, the arrival of the police and/or medical personnel, efforts to assist the injured, the grief reactions of other witnesses, and the survivor s separation from the love one body. Questions On Quantitative And Qualitative Research Other Approaches to Research In the 20th century researchers developed other research designs that draw on quantitative and qualitative elements. Mixed methods, action research, and program evaluation follow the research design process of quantitative and qualitative research. Action research and program evaluation however are not applied research designs. Mixed Methods As the name implies, mixed methods research combines both quantitative and qualitative components to add depth and breadth to the research study (Laureate Education, Inc., n.d. g). Like qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research, action researchers reflect on their practice, and then define a problem within it, gather data, review the literature, identify colleagues who will collaborate in the action research process, carry out the action plan, analyze the data, and form possible conclusions (Lodico, Spaulding, Voegtle, 2010). Multiple types of data are collected. Researchers use a triangulation matrix to corroborate their results. Unlike applied research, action researchers do not use complicated statistical analysis to measure quantitative data. They also do not provide the deep level of analysis found in qualitative research. However, action researchers can and do use descriptive statistics, coding, and triangulation to detect possible themes that emerge from the data, thereby ensuring their results are credible and dependable (Lodico, Spaulding, Voegtle, 2010). There are two types of action research: critical action research and practical action research. In critical action research, the researcher attempts to address major societal issues, such as sexism, racism, or other types of injustice within an educational system (Lodico, Spaulding, Voegtle, 2010). • 5. Political Equality In Martin Luther King s I Have A Dream This political representation and the economic equality that King advocates for manifest into a third form of equality. As the African American community would begin to gain capital to build a solid infrastructure for their communities or begin the transition and facilitated diffusion into areas with affluence and or resources by way of legislation mandating the integration of public facilities, they would have more education, opportunity to jobs, and access to an entire race of people for love so that it was no longer prohibited. This equality is social equality, or the premise of equity in the public such as in love or education. This equality would revolutionize the times as, again, there was a specific subordination associated with African American communities associated with them being inhuman as a justification for the slave trade. The process of achieving social equality not only meant that this idea of African Americans as inhuman and subordinate had to be totally discredited as they could then be equals with Caucasian populations. It also meant that the African American society had the opportunity of social mobility whether it be educational status, fiscal class, or both. This threatened the elitism of the majority Caucasian population. It was also revolutionary because the process of desegregation would then mean that African Americans would be able to enter the same neighborhoods as the Caucasian population. Even though there are positive and negative connotations of materialistic obsession, ultimately, the symbol of the iPhone represents the distressing side of our society. One of the most prevalent issues in our society is the waste of money. The iPhone became the icon, the trend that everyone needs to get their hands on, no matter the cost. People used to replace their phones only when they were damaged, but now they replace them for no reason except the desire for something new. The cheapest price for a new iPhone 7 with 32GB is $649 plus tax. This means that if people wants more gigabytes or accessories, the price would be significantly higher. The center was opened from 1932 until 1973. The center provided free obstetrical care for poor women while at the same time helping doctors train for the latest methods to as well provide safe delivery for these women (Simpson, 1). The center wasn t such a famous hospital or clinic as the time. It also wasn t located by means of a medical school, such as the University of Chicago. Instead, the Chicago Maternity Center was located at 1334 South Newberry Street, centered at Chicago s West Side. The reason for this was because, when Beatrice Tucker became the Chicago Maternity Center s leader, the community was trapped as a desperate poor immigrant working class (Simpson, 1). Therefore, the center had two purposes. The first, was to care for and treat poor women, in childbirth, right at their homes. Second, was to teach doctors, medical students, and nurses the science and art of obstetrics (Tucker, Beatrice E., and Harry B. Benaron, 1). Through these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People who are medically obese usually are affected by behavior, genetic and environmental factors that are difficult to control with dieting. Obesity increases the likelihood of certain diseases especially cardiovascular disorders and diabetes. Obesity has become a pandemic nowadays. In the Indian scenario, even with the growing awareness about health and fitness, more than 3 percent (3 crores) of the Indian population is obese. Our study aims to determine the association of BMIwith cardiac output, forearm and calf blood flow in healthy young male adults. Our results are consistent with our hypothesis. Cardiac output was found to be significantly more in obese subjects compared to overweight and normal BMI group. Similar results were found in other studies too. Obese individuals have expanded central blood volume. In addition, stroke volume and cardiac output are both increased. These changes in blood volume and cardiac output are most likely due to the increased metabolic demand that result from increases in both lean and fat mass. The large fat depots in significant obesity produce a low resistance vascular circuit that may further increase cardiac output. There may also be changes in renal absorption of salt and water. The combination of these factors is proposed to produce a form of volume overload which can give rise to high output failure later. Stability, control, flexibility and change (adaptation) was the theorist s preference when composing this structure within the framework. Doing so added additional dimensions in this organisational cultures theory. The four major models that comprise of the competing values framework are the Humans relations Model, the Open Systems Model, Rational Goal Model and the Internal Process Model. It is through these four fundamental models that this theory develops its main cultures which are the clan culture, the adhocracy culture, the market culture and lastly the hierarchy culture. The fact that New York has five mafia families working the streets in its self is the penicil of the clan culture. The boss or the don is the leader of each clan or mob or family or schmucks (the last one was only if they did a silly thing). Any of the given five families love to adapt to their environment using steel and iron. They call them Uzi s. I call them guns. Through the use their tools, they can create a hierarchy within their own families and others to ensure they stay on top. They are also able to compete in their target market using those brass bullets I.e. if someone is on their turf that shouldn t be, they kill them or tell them to go away. The adhocracy culture I believe is where they thrive however. Gone are the days ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Reflection Of Martin Luther s Theory Of Music Unsurprisingly given what discussed so far, Luther had an extremely high view of music and of what this could accomplish where this was true in particular with reference to the sphere of worship and of church services . In this sense, he was of the opinion that by praising God in music, the latter acted as a bridge allowing for the possibility of relishing God s absolute and perfect wisdom, by seeing its reflection in his work of music itself. Accordingly always in the Preface to the Symphoniae Iucundae Luther presented music as something able to connect the whole of creation with its creation. In Loewe s words, the Preface «follows an arc that takes as its origin the very beginning of creation and descends from God to those who have been given a voice, in order to return to heaven through composed music: Luther explained that the praises sung by his readers had the potential to take the singers straight back to heaven, and the ultimate origin and goal of music». Hence, by becoming consciously musical that is, by actively producing music as opposed to just sounding we come to reflective express and formulate one the basic aspects of creation . In this way, composed music amplifies and shapes natural music and another belief which Luther shared with Herbenus this way conjoins the musica humana and musica caelestis. The origin of Smart City movement is dated back since late 1990 s (Bollier, 1998). The term has been adopted and advocated by many technologies services companies such as IBM (2009) and Cisco (2005). It was a promotion of the integration of information systems into urban infrastructure and services (Harrison and Donnelly, 2011). • 32. How Does Voltaire Portray Women Laurent Bélanger Supervisor: Lucy Grove English Literature March 2016 How does Voltaire portray women in Candide? Women in the 18th Century enjoyed very few privileges when it came to their expected gender roles within society. As he did other aspects of the culture of his time, Voltaire exposes this stark inequality in the satirical Candide, especially through the lack of many female characters in the novel and his characterisation of Cunégonde, Paquette and the Old Woman. Their initial lack of complexity and surprisingly similar lives despite strikingly different origins highlight the coarse existence of women in the 18th Century. Initially, her noble status wraps her in a sense of grandeur, and yet, by the the novel s second chapter, she is practically exposed as a typical damsel in distress, fainting at Candide s expulsion from the Baron s castle, the earliest sign of trouble . Unlike these two characters, the third significant female figure in Candide the Old Woman is neither pretty, tractable, nor grand. In fact, she lacks characterisation upon her first appearance, introduced merely as an old woman (Voltaire, 16), a name she retains until the novel s end. Thus, the novel s three primary female characters appear, at first, to be little more than archetypal characters, despite their later evolution: the pretty maid, the damsel in distress and the witch like servant. It is this apparent lack of character development which illustrates the insignificance of women s roles in 18th Century society. Regardless of this apparent lack of complexity, Voltaire depicts women in Candide perhaps surprisingly as survivors, highlighting a crucial aspect of women s existence in the society of the day. Following the Bulgar attack on the Baron s castle, the raping of Cunégonde until she could be raped no more and her subsequent disembowel[ment] (Voltaire, 10), the reader naturally assumes her death; it is therefore a great surprise when she reappears in the novel s seventh chapter. • 34. The Carboxylate Group In Tamiflu Additional questions: 1. Why would removing the carboxylate groups result in the compound s activity being nullified? The carboxylate group in Tamiflu provides it with a strong ionic interaction with an arginine residue. This interaction will hold the drug molecule in place in the binding pocket of the enzyme, allowing it to elicit an effect. Removal of this group would result in the arginine Tamiflu interaction being removed, which would result in a poorer affinity for the binding pocket. The Tamiflu molecule will be far less likely to exhibit good binding and therefore the biological effect of the drug would be diminished. 2. Identify the binding groups and their optimal alignment with one another, paying particular attention to the hydrogen bonds. Provide at least one example for each type of interaction. a. The nitrogen of the guanidine acts as a hydrogen bond donor and the amide of the Tamiflu molecule acts as a hydrogen bond acceptor. Jacobs uses his characters even further to build up suspense by describing their physical reaction as well as their dialogue. Mr White s brow cold with sweat shows us how his fear has lead him to the point of sweating proving that he is afraid of the wish he just made. This also convinces the reader that the paw holds forces not to be reckoned with and that if Herbert did come back it would be a horrific rather than cheerful moment. Also Mr White caught his breath when ordered to find the paw, showing that he was scared and dreaded the moment when he would have to wish for his son back as he knew it would lead to doom. This realisation of the potential hazards they would face if Herbert were brought back creates fear and suspense. The description of the character s physical actions is very useful, as it depicts the emotions and thoughts of a character to an extent that dialogue cannot. The contrast of light and darkness within the story is used alongside the characters to create suspense. At the beginning of the story, it was dark, which gave the reader an ominous impression. For example Mr White was going down the stairs to make a wish to bring Herbert back while it was so dark, he had to feel his way around.
