A Brief Note On The And The Affordable Care Act
Mike Mosko English 2 3 December 2014 Obamacare vs. The Affordable Care Act: The role of news
framing in health care reform. It has officially been over a year since the Affordable Care Act (ACA),
also known as Obamacare, took the nation by storm. Along with its inception came a deeming quality
as one of the most ambitious, as well as provocative, instances of health care reform the United States
had ever seen. The basic premise of the law is an attempt to ensure that affordable health care is made
available for all American public. This is accomplished by providing tax credits on health insurance
plans offered by the government, such as Medicaid, to those who remain at a certain Federal Poverty
Level and could previously not effort it. The idea is that these discounts would suddenly allow said
people to have a better chance at doing so. In addition, the law protects patients with preexisting
medical conditions or who suddenly fall ill, forbidding insurance companies from dropping them. It
also allows young adults to stay on their parent s plans until the age of 26 and lowers rates for seniors.
Those opposed to the law have retaliated, citing increased taxes, allocation of Federal and State
funding, mandatory health coverage and, new, unnecessary obligations that insurance companies must
follow. It is important to remember that ACA s background, as well as its general support, is
Democratic while, the majority of those who oppose it are Republican. The clashing views of

Violance in Video Games Essay
Violence
Most of the time violence is considered as the worst when it comes to the bad effects of video games.
A scientific survey (Anderson Bushman, 2001) has found a connection between aggressive behaviors
and playing violent games where more the children play violent games, more tend be aggressive in
behavior. Not only that but also they are more likely to have aggressive feelings and thoughts plus
diminished aiding. It is said that the impact of playing violent games in children is compounded by the
intuitive/interactive nature of the games. Children are remunerated for being more vicious or violent,
most of the time in many games. The demonstration of violence is carried out over and again and the

The Transformation Of Macbeth s Character
As Innocent flower, (Shakespeare 25) Macbeth begins to change drastically, developing a completely
new identity, his transformation is quite obvious as he goes from innocent to the serpent under [the
flower] (Shakespeare 25). Macbeth has no morality to govern his actions furthermore. The soldier is
caught going against his moral beliefs as he represses all emotions that are caused by his actions in
killing; consequently, the guilt that is accumulated inside of him begins to take over, caused by the
initial push which began his redevelopment. Simply stated, Macbeth s obsession in gaining power
acted as a push causing his psychological state to spiral downhill. Macbeth s mind whose murder yet

Macbeth hears of Macbeth questioning his fate, she steps in pushing his new morals onwards,
enforcing the idea that killing Duncan is fine as they will pin the murder on the king s guards. The
thought of not having courage is lodged into Macbeth s head as he becomes aware that he is Letting I
dare not wait upon I would (Shakespeare 29). Macbeth experiences a turning point as he sets onwards
to kill Duncan but is abruptly stopped as Banquo is unable to fall asleep due to his thoughts of the
prophecies and the weird sisters. Banquo asks Macbeth if he has thought about what the weird sisters
told him about the prophecies lately, but Macbeth lies and says he has not. Hoping Banquo returns to
bed, Macbeth wishes him goodnight and continues onwards at full speed with his plan to kill Duncan.

Still Alice Identity
A man is only a man as long as he deems himself to be as such. In the novels, Me Before You and Still
Alice the authors, Jojo Moyes and Lisa Genova suggest that hopelessness is inescapable when a
person is stripped of what they consider to be the core essence of themselves. Will Traynor, the male
protagonist in Me Before You is an adventurous young man who found his identity though the joy of
physical thrills yet he completely lost his mobility due to a motorcycle accident which shattered his
idea of himself. By contrast, for an academic like Alice Howland, the protagonist in Still Alice, her
identity is her intelligent mind which is gradually fading due to the fact that she has developed a case
of early onset Alzheimer s disease. Both individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Will is no longer the Will he used to be as he has lost so much of himself. He cannot see himself being
truly happy in the future if he has to live bound to his wheelchair. He has lost all of his hope and in his

confesses her love for Will and he rejects her affections. Heartbroken, she vents to her sister saying, I
told him I loved him, she said, her voice dropping to a whisper. And he just said it wasn t enough.
(119). Louisa s love is not enough to revitalize his love of life. Everyday before his accident, Will
worked to achieve his dreams. He tells Louisa during one of their first encounters that, I worked out
what would make me happy, and I worked out what I wanted to do, and I trained myself to do the job
that would make those two things happen. (61). Will worked hard so he could live the way he wanted
to and one day the reason he worked so hard was stripped away from him. By the time Louisa meets
Will Traynor, he is already too far gone in his depression to find another reason to live. Will lost all of
his hope and in turn, lost all of his will to live. His hopelessness killed him, his depression was merely

very well with aspects that can be seen in modern society today. Those aspects are Drugs,
sexualization, and rapid manufacturing. That is why Brave New World is so much like the world we
have come to love.
Drugs are a big version of the book that keeps the society together. It keeps the people calm and
relaxed but not happy because that is a feeling. Drugs in modern society are the same way. People use
them to relax themselves and take their minds off what problems are in the world and their lives.

Love And Ego In Casablanca
Inside every human being, two opposing forces clash against one another: love and ego. Each has its

wonderful love story told, and yet it is riveting, captivating work on so many level. In terms of

Barnhouse Effect Essay
Name: Glory Christian
Professor: Desmond T. Burke
EAC150
Date:29th July 2017
There are many different types of creature on earth but human is considered as highest among all the
living creatures. Brain is the thing which makes human superior to any other living creature. Both the
stories selected by me are an exceptional examples of the human brain power. Moreover the writers
have used their imagination in a beautiful way to depict the stories also the stories have a hidden
moral which is only known to those who really get into the core of them. One of the story is The
report on Barnhouse effect and other one is the secret life of Walter Mitty .
To begin with, both the stories are a beautiful work of imagination. On one hand Mitty is ... Show

This shows the whether it be subconsciously or coincidently, witty has a strong patriotic feeling inside
him, which indirectly encouraged him to imagine this stuff up. While if we consider professor Arthur,
he s shown to be a true patriot in the story. The story tells that Professor Arthur comes to know about
his ability during the second World War. Looking around at all the destruction caused by the war,
unconsciously forces him to make a new weapon on his own. Considering the after effects of the war,
Professor Arthur chooses to use his weapon to restore peace in the world. He uses his dynamo
psychism power to demolish the large amount of weapons and other things which are used in war.
Which proves him to be a messenger of peace and a true patriot
Both the characters are really meek and fearful. The image of Walter Mitty by others is that of a meek
husband who is dominated by his wife and is not at all adventurous and seriously lacks motives and
goal in his life. The way Walter perceives himself to be in his dream world is entirely different from
what he is in his real life. While professor Arthur fears the destruction of the world. Declaring himself
the world s first weapon with a conscience , he flees and goes into hiding. Even Though he destroys
the arms and ammunitions, he is afraid that he is mortal and human life is transient. He fears that at
some point of time, again the world will turn towards war like situations.

The Pros And Cons Of The Whaling Ban
Despite the whaling ban in 1986 by the International Whaling Commission, some countries are
refusing to stop doing this practice especially Japan. After the 1986 ban, Japan launched their
supposed scientific whaling program which is widely known as their cover for their commercial
whaling practice. Supporters of the whaling ban claim that reversing the ban will cause whale
populations to become endangered or even extinct. Also, supporters of the IWC whaling ban say that
the IWC should maintain the ban and establish stricter rules regarding the ban. Proponents also claim
that the whale populations have yet to return to its former population before the excessive hunting
happened. Anti whaling groups such as Greenpeace point to species such as the West Pacific gray
whale, of which, according to some estimates, there are only about 100 left. According to Palumbi and
Roman s whale population study, the North Atlantic humpback whale population before commercial
whaling was more than 20 times what it is now.( ) Even with IWC whaling ban Japan, Iceland, and
Norway continue to hunt illegally.
Additionally, supporters of ban suggest that it is completely idiotic to risk lifting the ban for countries
who claim that whaling is a part of their culture. And that banning whaling, a practice that whale
hunters were doing for centuries is cultural imperialism and is totally unacceptable. In response to the
accusations of cultural imperialism, advocates of the whaling ban countered the

Military Deployment Has Affected The Family System
Throughout many years, military deployment has affected the family system. Especially young
children are effected by their parents shipping overseas since they are still are trying to figure out how
to cope without guidance during their development into adult years. In this particular study,
researchers examined adolescents between the ages of 12 18 to determine their thoughts about their
parents going into war. More specifically, researchers wanted to study the children s experiences with
ambiguous loss within their military families. Researchers hope to find ways in prevention and
intervention in order to reduce the feeling of uncertainty within adolescents. Sociologists determined
that the ambiguous loss theory provides explanation of the youth s responses from the study. If
children are uncertain of their parent s job entitlement then it helps with grieving, but may lead to
depression and effecting future relationship with others. When parental deployment occurs, family life
becomes a catastrophe since they are present for a short time. According to Boss, it is hard to set and
organize roles and responsibilities in a family setting when one or both supervisors are frequently
away. Another factor that was a part of the research was the Double ABC X framework, created by
McCubbin and Patterson. The letter A was commonly seen during the sample where parental
deployment and other stress factors, such as getting an A on a test, bothered the adolescent. In other

The Most Deadly Drugs are Already Legal Essay examples
This is your brain. This is your brain on drugs. Fried egg is probably the most influential commercial

friends: The Partnership for a Drug Free America (PDFA). We used to watch those commercials and
get all warm and fuzzy inside, someone out there cared enough about us to spend a lot of money on
those frightening ads. Those good people down at the PDFA really don t want us using drugs. Or do
they?

Unfortunately, a pragmatic PDFA ignores the very drugs which are taking the most American lives and
focuses on relatively harmless drugs, like marijuana. I m not advocating pot smoking. I ve never
smoked pot before. But lets look at the medical facts. According to the Center for Disease Control,
tobacco is now the leading cause of death in America, killing a thousand Americans a day. Alcohol
takes 130,000 lives annually, not including traffic fatalities. Marijuana has never killed anyone. Over
500,000 people die annually from tobacco and alcohol, more than 35 times the number of deaths from
all illegal drugs combined. The Media Awareness Project reports that Tylenol, aspirin, Advil, Motrin
and similar medications have accounted for four times more emergency hospital visits than all street
drugs combined. According to the American Association of Poison Control Centers, Tylenol alone
kills more people than cocaine does.
It therefore comes as no surprise that James Burke, CEO of Johnson Johnson creator of Tylenol
founded the PDFA in 1989. Ostensibly, he was trying to save lives, and in fact the PDFA may have
had something to do with the temporary drop in teenage drug abuse during the early 90s. But in the

Tucked away in a corner of The Oaks mall sits a quiet bookstore. Its exterior is something that

Books new ones that remain to be sorted, you guess tower precariously on either side of the counter,
and above the register is the name of the bookstore in an olive green. Surrounding it are small, framed
chalkboards. They advertise things like story time on Sundays and a book club in intricate
handwriting. Everything has a nostalgic tinge to it. From wooden bookshelves to chalkboard
handwriting, the Open Book seems to be a space removed from the digital age of Kindles and fancy
computer search systems. Even the store décor is reminiscent of a simpler time, with hand lettering
painted on the walls and framed artwork from past art competitions the bookstore has held. But of
course, the first thing that will catch your eye if you enter is the word Vintage painted black in a neat,
serif font along what seems to be the back wall. Curiously, you may approach this wall first, and
without fault it is one of the bookstore s proudest walls. The shelves here are lined with books that
look like they fell out of a library scene in a Hollywood movie. A little dusty, and a little worn, these
books boast of their history. Many of the texts are bound in a deep red or navy blue, labeled in gold
lettering and arranged by color. This wall alone may be the most picturesque in the entire store.
Perhaps you ll open a book, just to take a look.

How Did The Beat Generation Influence Counter Culture
Eleanor Wellik Hour 5 11/21/2014 Beat Generation s Effect on Music Many years from now counter
culture through the ages Cultural movements serve as massive forces of change for not just the
members of those movements, but entire nations. The counterculture movement of 1960s America was
a drastic shift in ideals among the youth of the U.S. that paved the way for breakthroughs in American
culture. These waves would ripple through the next decades with the young adults and their music as
the main carriers of the counterculture message. However, the spark that ignited this giant flame began
in the 50s with The Beats: a group of non conformist poets based in New York. With their

The new emphasis on peace, harmony, and tuning in became grounds for experimenting with new
belief systems. The Beats used Zen Buddhism in this way to reach a more enlightened or open state of
mind. Kerouac especially utilized Buddhist teachings in many of his works, including The Dharma
Bums and Mexico City Blues, which recount many Buddhist lessons, such as those of Sunyata
(nothingness) and other teachings he picked up in his fascination with the religion. Ginsberg s poetry
stylings were even affected by his Eastern religion pursuits, and his writings suggest hints of haiku
like pauses from early on in his career, and later Hindu like chants. Ginsberg s Indian retreat for
spirituality indeed seems very similar to what the Beatles would set off to do in 1967 when they flew
off to. This spirituality made its way into much of the Beatles later work. The Doors can also be cited
as being influenced greatly by the Beats, with Ray Manzarek stating If you re working with words, it s

A Method of Doubt and Descartes Essay
A Method of Doubt and Descartes
In his first meditation, Descartes sets out with amazing clarity and persistence to clear himself of
every false idea that he has acquired previous to this, and determine what he truly knows. To rid him
of these rotten apples he has developed a method of doubt with a goal to construct a set of beliefs on
foundations which are indubitable. On these foundations, Descartes applies three levels of skepticism,
which in turn, generate three levels at which our thoughts may be deceived by error. Descartes states
quite explicitly in the synopsis, that we can doubt all things which are material as long as we have no
foundations for the sciences other than those which we have had up till now (synopsis:12). This ...

3. It is wise not to trust anything that has been deceiving in the past 4. Therefore, it is possible to be
mistaken about everything. In premise one his beliefs are derived from the senses, such as he sees that
he has a paper in his hand and concludes that it is a paper, and what is meant by through the senses, is
that his beliefs may have been based on others sense experience. All Descartes requires for the second
premise is the possibility that he may have been deceived, for if he cannot decide which is wrong, than
he must not have any knowledge. This leads to the third premise where it seems at least reasonable to
assume, that if one has been deceived previously, there is no absolute assurance that it is presently
correct. Therefore, there is a chance of being deceived about everything. But many critics will argue
that several of these false percepts can be corrected by means of alternative senses, such as he bent
stick in water example. Although our sight may be tricked into thinking that the mirage exists, by
using the sense of touch we can correct this falseness, and uncover what truly exists. Descartes does
retreat, and assess the damage from his first level by saying, there are many other beliefs about which
doubt is quite impossible, even though they are derived from the senses for example, that I am here,
sitting by the fire, wearing a winter dressing gown.. (1:18[12]). Here even he objects to the validity of

The Formula Of Magnesium Oxide
The purpose of this experiment is to verify the formula of magnesium oxide based on the masses of
magnesium and the product (MgO). We verify the formula firstly by calculating the empirical formula
of magnesium oxide and then calculating creating the magnesium oxide itself a magnesium ribbon is
combined with oxygen in the presence of air through combustion and this forms MgO. The empirical
formula of a compound is the simplest method of expressing a chemical formula in whole number
ratios of the constituent atoms that are consistent with masses measured in the experiment; whereas
the molecular formula expresses the chemical formula using the actual number of atoms. For example,
the molecular formula of anthracene is C14H10 while the empirical formula is C7H5.
Because of the Law of Definite Proportions, when the elements of magnesium and oxygen chemically
react to form a compound they do so in definite proportions by weight. The Law of Definite
Proportions states that if elements form a compound, they must combine in definite proportions by
weight. This means that all atoms form chemical compounds by combining in whole number ratios.
Take for example the elements of hydrogen and oxygen: they can combine to make water (H2O) but
in other conditions can combine to make hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). In both examples the ratio stays
the same. Likewise, in this experiment the elements magnesium and oxygen combine in whole
number ratios. We have hypothesized that magnesium and oxygen

The opinion of the court made their case by referring to other cases. These cases defined the duty of
the stadium owner, by declaring that Once the stadium owner has provided adequately screened seats
for all those desiring them, the stadium owner has fulfilled its duty of care as a matter of law. (Leagle,
2015). Instead of finding the Houston Sports Association liable, the judge indicated that because
Karen attended the game with an adult, the adult was liable to warn her of the dangers that could take
place when at a baseball game. Though the jury did not find her father, Robert Friedman, negligent in
warning his daughter about the possibility of what might happen, Texas law asserts that her father

Chief Judge Cynthia Fry indicated We know of no intentional tort that has elements employing similar
characterizations , with regard to Matranga hitting baseballs with utter indifference to or conscious
disregard for a person s safety (Law Justia, 2009). It is because of this, the court affirmed summary
judgement in favor of the Isotopes and the City of Albuquerque and denied the Crespin s motion to
revise their complaint.
All three of these cases take place over different time periods. Though in the first case, the Boston
Garden was held liable for the injury sustained by a spectator, as the years went on, things changed. In
the 1987 case involving Karen Friedman, the court held the father responsible and asserted that the
Houston Sports Association did everything they needed to protect themselves from premises liability
and spectator injuries. Lastly, the 2009 case confirmed that no duty was breached and that the stadium
or team was not held liable for the terrible injuries Emilio Crespin endured (Law Justia, 2009). Over
the seventy year period that these cases took place over, you can say how though once held liable,
stadiums have set standards in place to protect themselves from injuries that fan may suffer. Spectator
injuries and cases involving premises liability continue to influence the business of the sport industry.
The sport industry is a business centered around ticket sales,

Data And Methodology Of M A
3. Data and Methodology This section begins with a description of the process in constructing the
sample used for the study. To obtain the sample of M A deals, data was primarily sourced from the
Thomson Reuters Securities Data Company (SDC) Platinum Database, a widely used database for M
A studies (Harford, 2005; Popli and Sinha, 2014; Carow et al, 2004). To obtain financial information
such as company daily share prices and index level data, the DataStream database was utilized. The
section then covers the quantitative methods used to test the hypotheses regarding the performances of
first movers and late followers in an M A wave. 3.1. Sample 3.1.1. Broad Sample An initial sample of
33, 434 completed M A deals for the period 1990 2014 by publicly listed acquiring firms with deal
value above USD$10 million (m) was extracted from Thomson Reuters SDC Platinum Database.
3.1.2. Wave Identification Based on the broad sample, distinct wave periods were identified. A simple
wave identification method was employed based on common characteristics associated with M A
waves. M A waves are described as periods beginning with low M A activity, which sharply increases
before reaching a peak level, followed by a fall in M A activity (Popli and Sinha, 2014; Hou et al,
2015; Haleblian et al, 2012). The broad sample was organized in terms of the total number of deals
announced on a yearly basis from 1990 2014 as seen in Graph 1a. A trend line was imposed which

How To Clean Up A Tornado
Look out! A whole tire flew right at the back of your head! That quote might be a little intense, but it
could happen. The natural disaster that could cause this is a horrifying tornado. About 60 people die
from debris torn off and released by tornadoes every year. 60 people may not seem like much out of
351 million, but they are people not statistics. To survive these horrible disasters, you would need to
prepare, know how to get through it, and afterwards, clean up is mandatory since natural disasters do
not clean up after themselves.
Preparation is the most important event that should take place at any time. If you are watching the
news before a big thunderstorm, and you see that your county is even on tornado watch while ... Show

The tornado is here! Get everyone inside and brace for impact! Everyone should be balled up against
and facing an inside wall that does not connect to the outside unless you want it torn off and want to
fly away with it. The whole family should keep quiet and listen until no one hears anymore crashing
or rumbling outside. The adults should get up first to check if the coast is clear. If it is, it would be safe
for anyone else to get up.
In the hopes that your house is not completely destroyed, there will most likely be some clean up to
do. There are usually a few trees down in the yard, so they need to be sawed up and saved for
firewood. The little branches should be picked up, put in a fire and burned when the pile is dry. A
while shelter might even be completely flipped upside down in your front lawn, so get a front end
loader to pick it up and put it in a big trash trailer.
In conclusion, you would need to prepare and have the knowledge and skill to at least survive when a
tornado rips through the neighborhood. Also, repairing the multiple damages and cleaning up after the
storm would get your house and landscape looking as good as new. With this information, I leave you
in the hopes that you will be able to survive any tornado that comes your

Forecasting Power Of Statistical Data Analytics Essay
I. PROJECT OVERVIEW
Throughout the semester, we have learned different aspects of Big Data analytics and their
practicalities. Forecasting and prediction are another important parts of data analytics. Advanced
forecasting analytics is playing a vital role in the age of Big Data, such as predicting crime activities,
weather changes, electric power generations, or personalizing marketing campaigns.
The purpose of this report is to demonstrate the forecasting power of statistical data analytics. We will
use a time series dataset to conduct the forecasting, since this type of datasets contain a set of
observations generated sequentially in time. Organizations of all types and sizes utilize time series
datasets for analysis and forecasting for predicting next year s sales figures, raw material demand,
monthly airline bookings, etc. A time series model is useful to obtain an understanding of the
underlying forces and structure that produced the data.
The rest of this paper is organized as follow: section II presents the analysis of the data with
regression analysis and Tableau based visualization. Section III presents the conclusions and
implications of the data.
II. DATAANALYSIS
The data used to conduct this analysis referred to a monthly sales and advertising expenditures of a
dietary weight control product. This data was provided by DataMarket.com. The data includes sales
and advertising expenditures of 36 consecutive months, from January 1st, 2011 to December 3rd,
2013.

Medical practices in Ancient Egypt had a great impact on the medical practices that are used today, in

Giving Up Candy
Giving up candy for Lent may seem very easy for most people to do, but for Danny seemed like it
would be impossible to do. Lent is a religious observance that begins on the day of Ash Wednesday
and ends on Easter Sunday, or approximately six weeks. It is a season where Catholics prepare for
Easter and give up something important from themselves for forty days like Jesus did in the desert.
This story took place in 2012 as a fifth grader and lasted a couple of days before Lent to the very end
of Lent or around the months of February and March. This story is about how giving up chocolate for
Lent like Danny did or any other major goal is possible if you stay focused and motivated.
It was a cold February day for Danny at his Catholic School and Church Saint Edwards. Danny had
just completed Ash Wednesday Mass in the church. Danny now knew at the end of Mass that his worst

Father Breen looked at the him and thought for a minute.
What is your sacrifice for Lent Danny? Father asked.
Well, Danny said nervously. It is candy. Before Lent I ate it a lot.
Well, Father Breen said. That is the point of a Lent sacrifice, Danny. You are supposed to give up
something that is very close to you. It is supposed to make you feel like how Jesus was in the desert.
Jesus also felt giving up in the desert sometimes, but he fought through it. That s what you also have
to do if you want to succeed at it.
Danny thought about what Father Breen just said. He now understood what he needed to do to his
sacrifice.
Do you know what? Danny said enthusiastically. I feel like I have what I need to do fully on my
sacrifice. Thank you for the advice.
No problem. Father said. Remember if you need any help with anything, I will be right here.

Indonesia Trade Brief
Introduction The KOF Index of Globalization ranks Indonesia 87th in the world in total globalization,
below its immediate neighbors like Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and well below Singapore. The
country ranked 76th in economic globalization, 146th in social globalization and 39th in political
globalization. The country s economic globalization score is based on trade flows and restrictions,
equally. Indonesia s score in terms of economic trade is likely dragged down by its significant trade
barriers. These barriers represent an obstacle to flourishing trade for Indonesia, which otherwise
performs well in terms of its international trade profile. Data and Arguments The country s economy is
in the trillion dollar class, and ranks 16th in the world, just below Canada and just above Turkey (CIA
World Factbook, 2012). With ranks of 27th in the world for exports, 30th for imports, 34th for
inbound FDI and 37th for outbound FDI (Ibid), Indonesia s flows are much greater than its
globalization ranking would indicate. This points to trade barriers as being a drag on its KOF score.
These figures at least to some extent tied to commodity prices, as Indonesia s exports and inbound
FDI in particular are tied to its mineral and forest wealth (World Bank, 2010). Indonesia is a member
of the World Trade Organization, and therefore is committed to lowering its trade barriers. The WTO
publishes statistics on tariffs that illustrate that, in general, the Indonesian trade market

Great Lakes Water Piping
Great Lakes Water Piping
Unbiased Introduction For years, there has been debate over who has access to the water in the Great
Lakes. The Great Lakes provide about 20 percent of the world s freshwater resources and many areas
would like to use that water for various purposes. Water is also becoming a valuable resource, with
many areas lacking the access to it necessary for their area s needs. Because of this, lawmakers passed
a compact in 2008 that was designed to protect the Great Lakes against pressure from other States to
withdraw water (Kalsness, 2011). A compact is an agreement between states or nations that bind them
to whatever they agreed upon. This compact makes sure that areas outside of the Great Lakes region
do not have access to the water. Despite this compact, some want to use the Great Lakes to pipe water
to other states that do not have the same natural resources. Proponents of this piping say that is gives
water to areas that need it and that it will provide additional income to the area (Cauchon, 2006).
Opponents say that piping would go against water conservation and environmental protection as well
as water management. They also say that it is a natural resource that belongs to the area and should not
be taken away to other areas of the country (Dempsey, 2008). Currently, the debate continues about
the correct use of the resource of the Great Lakes.

Examples Of Modernism In Mrs Dalloway
Modernist Style in Virginia Woolf s Mrs Dalloway
The period of modernism, and the new way of thinking and writing it brought, was hugely influenced
by the changes in society occurring in the Western world at the beginning of the 19th century. World
War I awakened the topic of the meaning of life and death, and together with the modernizing
industrial societies and growing cities, altered people s view of the world. During this period, writers
responded to the change in the perception of the world and thus shifted their focus of writing from
social issues to the experience and consciousness of an individual. At the turn of the century, reality
was getting situated within the inner, subjective consciousness of people s individual selves, as though

There are two temporal areas in which Woolf s characters exist; the chronological time which is
common and identical to everyone and cannot be stopped, and the subjective, inner time of one s
consciousness, which is perceived individually by each individual s thoughts, memories and
experiences from the past. The flow of thoughts, or the stream of consciousness takes place in the
character s inner time and includes both past memories originating from a present situation as well as
a possible future action which is related to the previous ones. Both of these temporal lines are
important, though Mrs Dalloway is more concerned with the inner time and the stream of
consciousness. To Virginia Woolf, time, existence, and the human mind psyche are interconnecting
and must therefore be dealt with from the inside of her characters. The chronological time, though still
exists throughout the novel as a timeframe for the reader, and the characters are constantly being
reminded of it. Virginia Woolf seems to have been influenced by Henri Bergson s views on time. In
Mrs Dalloway, time is also being perceived as a continuous flux, in which the past, the present, and
the future are connected. Moreover, by exposing some seemingly insignificant details and revealing
personal views and memories of secondary characters, Woolf is able to depict the whole life story of
Clarissa Dalloway, through the span of just one day. The style of the text in the novel, which connects
words and fragments together with a number of dashes, colons and semicolons, represents the
complexity of Clarissa s mind; with the use of the stream of consciousness technique and playing
around with time and memories, Woolf manages to depict all the important moments in the life of
Clarissa

The Role of Hbcus in American Society
For almost two hundred years, Historically Black Colleges and Universities or HBCUs have played a
pivotal role in the education of African American people, and negro people internationally. These
schools have provided the majority of black college graduates at the Graduate and Post Graduate
level; schools such as Hampton University, Morehouse University, Spellman University and Howard
University are four universities at the forefront of the advanced education of blacks. For sometime

I also believe that HBCUs are a better alternative to affirmative action. These institutions have the
capacity to attract and motivate many young black people, to advance their education. By seeing
people just like them, with similar backgrounds and similar interest making great achievements, it
provides those young black people with a pride and a sense of empowerment. This is most effective in
the poorer neighborhoods where morale is low. It is true that HBCUs enroll students with the lowest
test scores in American education; according to Elias Blake Jr. in the article from Emerge, Black
colleges are still enrolling a majority of the most vulnerable students that have the lowest income and
the lowest test scores (par. 7). Studies show that in many disadvantaged communities, the quality of
education is not up to par with the quality in the wealthier communities. Therefore, those in these
poorer communities are at a disadvantage. But from the statistics on the amount on the amount of
successful African Americans who graduate from these historically black institutions, something right
must be occurring. I believe that these HBCUs are an ideal environment for these students as they
place these under achieving students in an environment which they are comfortable, and allows them
the ability to develop their skills. In the end, most of

Transcendence and Technology in William Gibson s Neuromancer
Transcendence and Technology in Neuromancer
Where do we go from here? Case asks near the conclusion of William Gibson s novel Neuromancer
(259). One answer suggested throughout most of the narrative is nowhere. True, geographically we are
whisked around the urban centers of Earth in the near future, Chiba City, the Sprawl, Istanbul, and
then to the orbital pleasure domes and corporate stronghold of Freeside and Straylight. The kind of
movement to which I am referring is not overtly physical, though. Neuromancer articulates a motion
inward, its attention focused upon subtle interiors; it is implosive rather than expansive, choosing to
examine how technology affects the universe of self, individual consciousness, rather than ... Show

With this increasingly sophisticated technology, with the ability to remake the world and ourselves,
Case s question resonates self consciously: where do we go from here? Neuromancer presents
technology in an accelerating culture as a potent force capable of facilitating escape, immersion,
destruction, and even transcendence of self without glamorizing or demonizing technology itself.
Perhaps, in this manner, Gibson is able to posit more than one viable answer to this paralyzing
(peculiarly postmodern) question.
As the gap between present and future grows smaller and becomes difficult to discern, people and
machines overlap and, in some cases, are indistinct or interchangeable. If we move even twenty
minutes into the future (a la Max Headroom [1985]), as Larry McCaffrey states, we will encounter a
world...unimaginably transformed... (9). In this environment, where whole bodies of technique are
supplanted monthly , the soft flesh of the human body becomes a deliberately unsupervised
playground for technology itself (Neuromancer 4,11). Some cybernetic implants, Molly s
mirrorshaded eyes, her retractable razor claws, the brain sockets built to accept microsofts, software
allowing instant access to and mastery of entire worlds of knowledge and skills, offer the promise of

Case Study On Blood Transfusion
INTRODUCTION
Blood is one of the integral components of body constituents, which flows throughout body and
becomes a reason for survival. Blood transfusion is a life saving intervention for patients in need of
transfusion. Blood borne infections are common serious hurdles of blood transfusion. Considering the
serious consequences of these infections and to hold back the transmission to minimum, it is
extremely important to remain vigilant about the possible spread of these diseases in the course of
blood transfusion1. Transfusion safety begins with healthy donors. Blood transfusion is safer than ever
before through continuous improvements in donor recruitment, screening, testing of donated blood
with increasingly sensitive assays, and appropriate clinical use of blood. Serologic testing for
transfusion transmitted infections had historically been the foundation of blood screening, while newer
strategies like nucleic acid testing (NAT) have helped further shorten the window period . Moreover,
threat of infectious agents entering the blood supply is not constant and may evolve as new pathogens
emerge or when old ones change their epidemiological pattern. In 2002, the Government of India

Fast Food Nation
Issues Surrounding the Nation s Slaughterhouses In the book, Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser
discusses the problems that the nation is facing with fast food restaurants. Schlosser wrote this book
because he was concerned with where the fast food industry was taking America. He voices his
concern about the children and their health regarding meat bacteria, and the fat content of the food. He
also mentions how potato farmers, cattle ranchers, and chicken raisers are suffering from the industry
controlling prices too low. Another worry Schlosser has is how the meat packing factories for these
restaurants treat their workers and ultimately how careful they are with the meat. There are many
horrifying stories about the harsh injuries and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of these managers looking out for their workers, they try to hide the injuries, and will give
injured employees easier jobs until they are healed, if they agree to not visit the doctor. They feel the
need to hide minor injuries because a supervisor must meet production goals, keep the number of
recorded injuries low, and most importantly, keep the meat flowing down the line without interruption
(Schlosser 175). The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is responsible for
inspecting meatpacking plants and making sure they are operating and functioning properly. The old
OSHA policy was that, there were 1,300 inspectors and over 5 million workplaces to be looked at. The
employers would expect an inspection about every 80 years (Schlosser 179). Now, for an inspection to
even be done, the factories injury rate must be higher than the national average. There is a slim chance
of that happening because the records are kept by the companies officials, since the have direct control
on the number of injury reports. Schlosser brings up an interesting statement about OSHA s policy
when he says they did indeed reduce the number of recorded injuries in meatpacking plants. It did not,
however, reduce the number of people getting hurt. It merely encouraged companies, in the words of a
subsequent congressional investigation, to understate

Mr. Palomar By Italo Calvino
Mr. Palomar exhibits a unique interesting character throughout the entire book Mr. Palomar by Italo
Calvino. The odd slipper (Page 99 101), specifically addresses a lot of Mr. Palomar s perspectives on
simple topics, it clearly shows that Mr. Palomar is a deep thinker and it conveys his habit of over
complicating matters that are supposed to be simple, it is effective in highlighting the image that Mr.
Palomar is a character who tends to isolate himself from the world by questioning it and examining
every aspect of our being and stance in society.
The odd slipper (Page 99) is about Mr. Palomar receiving a mismatched shoe while shopping in
Bazaar. This passage displays the sudden division of Mr. Palomar s seemingly strong perspective into
two different, opposing viewpoints. One is that at first, Mr. Palomar believed that by purchasing a
mismatched shoe, he had started a chain of events that would cause consequences in the future:
centuries can go by before the consequences of this mistake affect another visitor to that ancient
bazaar. Every process of disintegration in the order of the world is irreversible; the effects, however,
are hidden and delayed by the dust cloud of the big numbers, which contains virtually limitless
possibilities of new symmetries, combinations, pairings. (Page 100)
By saying this, Mr. Palomar means that any changes in the world that bring about disorder are
irreversible, but their consequences may actually be hidden until the very end.

Some Could Suckle Over Their Shoulder By Jennifer Morgan...

Sexist Decline to Racism In Jennifer Morgan s article Some Could Suckle over Their Shoulder : Male
Travelers, Female Bodies, and the Gendering of Racial Ideology, she suggests that sexist beliefs
contributed to the justification of racialized slavery. She proves this by providing accounts of
European explorers describing those they encountered, which at first reveal an admiration for the
strength and beauty they (African women) possessed but later began to associate them with unholy
beasts . These Europeans lacked the ability to understand the independence of women in the
matriarchal tribes having been blinded by biases learned by living in a patriarchal society. Once
Native Americans and Africans were demonized for their lifestyles and deemed savage, they were
more easily viewed as livestock rather than human beings. It became easier to enslave an entire race
when they decided they were superior to those of a darker skin tone. A frequent source in Morgan s
article is from Richard Ligon and his depiction of his personal encounters with other civilizations.
Upon first meeting a black woman Ligon stated she was of the greatest beauty and majesty together:

Why Lsd And Magic Mushrooms
Once again, eyes burning from exhaustion, fingers near whittled to the bone, heart pumping with
caffeine and nicotine, I find myself ensnared in the vast tangles of the inter web, each title ever more
enticing than the last. Peculiarly, this time it was a Time article entitled Do LSD and Magic
Mushrooms Have a Place In Medicine, by Alexandra Sifferlan. Again, my natural instinctual wonder
takes control and I click. I was surprised to see how many experts in disarray by its schedule I
illegality. The article briefly notes multiple records of scientific research to support their articles main
idea. Due to the metaphysical sense of inadequacy the article and its references left with me, I dug
harder. I checked their sources to find only dead end paths of knowledge. Beginning to feel like a
chameleon in a mirrored box, I stepped towards my final gleam of hope. The Atlantic article Seeing
Opportunity in Psychedelic Drugs, by Matt Shiavenza, had several promising sources but alas no
leads. Drenched in discouragement, disaffected, and suffocating in a sea of endless links, the Guardian
article Healing trip: How psychedelic drugs could help treat depression by David Derbyshire, was the
breath of sweet truth I d been so desperately craving; pure objective data with direct in citation links to
universities and medical institutions research and journal publications. Finally, I knew the article was
not delusive, but instead, based upon inalienable scientific knowledge.

Biography of Michael Jordan Essay example
Biography of Michael Jordan Michael Jeffrey Jordan is known by many people as the best basketball
player ever to play the game. Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls, helping them obtained six
championship titles in eight years. Now remembered for being the best and the most popular athlete in
the sports world. He had a great influence on the people. Jordan was just another great legend (Stein
2). Being a role model on and off the court Jordan showed his abilities to play the game and his
kindness towards other people, especially those who admired him the most. His widespread appeal to
fans has helped keep basketball one of the world s most popular spectator sports (Stein 1). Michael
Jeffrey Jordan was born on February ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After he graduated from high school, he decided to go and play for the University of North Carolina
Where he was a big star and won a championship title with a last two second shot. He was nominated
player of the year. He then was drafted to the Chicago Bulls, where he had a long list of outstanding
accomplishments. Jordan s presence on the Chicago Bulls immediately woke up the interest of the
fans. The entire franchise was very enthusiastic and felt very positive about their future. He was such a
great player that on his first season he won the rookie of the year award with 28.2 points per game.
The Bulls had a losing record before they had Jordan. After the Bulls had Jordan, nothing else but
good things began to happen for this franchise. He took the Bulls to the playoffs for five straight years
in a row. But they would always loose to the Detroit Pistons or Boston Celtics. One problem was that
Jordan sometimes played at a level so above his teammates that the Bulls failed to function as a team
(Greene 8 9). During the 1989 90 season, The bulls signed Phil Jackson to be their new head coach.
His new triangle plays helped Jordan use his offensive abilities. As his desire to win a championship
developed more and more, he focused a little bit more on his defense than offense. As a result of his
desire the Bulls won their first championship in history for the season of 1990 91. After the end of this

John Calvin s Influence On Church History
What Influence did John Calvin have on Church History? John Calvin was born on July 10, 1509 at
Noyon, in Picardy, which is the northern providence of France, located 60 miles northeast of Paris. If
you do the math, next July of 2009 the Christendom would celebrate the 500th anniversary of the birth
of Calvin, which many Bible conferences around the world are already preparing for next year. Calvin
entered the University Of Paris at the age of 14, and mastered almost everything he turned his
attention to, including a brilliant writing style and masterful skill in logic and logical argument. At the
age of 19, he graduated with his Master of Arts degree. And at the age of 22, he mastered a classical
literature and published his first literary commentary. It was no brainer that classical ... Show more

That is very obvious when you read through his expositional commentaries on the Bible. However, for
many centuries prior to the Reformation, the typical hermeneutical methods were allegorizing and
spiritualizing the text. Having such methods, the church can say about anything she wants to believe
what the Bible says and means. Such hermeneutical gymnastics was a license for much of
ecclesiastical abuses. But for Calvin, the meaning of the text was the meaning of the text. What drove
him to handle the Word with such precision was due to his commitment to biblical exegesis. In fact, he
is considered the father of the modern day grammatico historical method of hermeneutics. To answer
what grammatical historical hermeneutics is, it is simply an interpreting rule in which the interpreter
considers the historical context and grammatical structure for the specific text that he wishes to
understand the way that the biblical author originally intended to convey. Calvin understood that
without the proper exegesis of Scripture, there is no expositional preaching. In other words, biblical
exegesis is the foundational work for proper expository

Emirates Airline Overview
Introduction Emirates (Fly Emirates) is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates. It is one of
the fastest growing airlines and is known for consistently turning a profit. Though Emirates is owned
by the UAE government, is has evolved into a globally influential travel and tourism conglomerate
known for its commitment to the highest standards of quality in every aspect of the business (The
Emirates Story).
History
In March of 1985, Emirates airlines was created with support from Dubai s royal family. With an
investment of 10 million US dollars, Emirates was able to lease a Boeing 737 300 and an Airbus
300B4 for two years ( The Emirates Group). The airline commenced its operations with a new route

Emirates has chosen not to join any alliance but it does offer code sharing with various airlines. By
remaining an independent airline, it is able to react without consensus from other alliance members
(Lone Emirates still flying high on luxury). With all these destinations, Emirates has been able to have
101098 available seat miles. Business Model Emirates airlines is known for its sound business
strategy and unique ability to plan for the future. One of the first steps taken to cut costs and maximize
exposure is in the preparation for the post travel agent era. By offering online ticketing, having a
YouTube channel and frequently updating its customers using social media, Emirates is able to
eliminate the need for travel agents and generate revenue from advertising placed on its websites
(Annual review by the chairman). Emirates current ratio of direct vs transfer flights is a well balanced
50:50. However this should change once all A 380s are delivered. By focusing on cargo operations
more intensely than its competitors, it is able to generate 20% of its revenue from freight operations.
The airline also has a strong presence in secondary markets that are currently not served by its
competitors (British Airways, Air France and Lufthansa). By almost completely saturating these
secondary markets (Middle East, Indonesia, and south eastern Asia) with its own fleet, the

Passing, By Nella Larsen

Midterm Essay Passing, by Nella Larsen
Passing, by Nella Larsen is a novel all about pretending to be something that you are not. It is about
giving everyone the impression that everything is in order when in reality everything is falling apart.
Passing in this novel refers to the ability of a person to be classified as one thing, normally a social
group, while belonging to a different group. Passing is usually done to gain class or acceptance by
groups other than one s own. The primary focus of the novel is on racial passing which is the ability to
look white and belong to a white group when in reality the person is an African American in order to
gain privileges that were unavailable to them. Although racial passing is the main focus, another major
theme in this novel is sexual passing and identity. Sexual passing refers to a person s ability to be
judged or viewed as a heterosexual person but in reality they are homosexual or bisexual. This was a
masked theme in the novel because in the early 1900 s, homosexuality was not something that was
accepted. Larsen made it aware that these were real problems in those times without coming out
directly and saying it. The main plot of Passing focuses on two light skinned black women, Irene
Redfield and her old time friend Clare Kendry. Both women can pass as white women. Irene who is
married to a successful African American doctor, passes only when it is

Central Limit Theorem And The Distribution Of The Number...
Central Limit Theorem Abraham De Moivre, a French mathematician, published an article 1733,
which he used the normal distribution to approximate the distribution of the number of heads resulting
from many tosses of a coin. His work was nearly forgotten until another French mathematician can
along who name was Pierre Simon Laplace. Laplace explained De Moivre s findings by
approximating the binomial distribution with normal distribution. In 1785 Laplace introduced the
characteristic functions which were the sum of error distribution, which took the value of 1 and +1
with equal probabilities. This work helped Laplace with the concept of the CLT, which he wrote a
paper on in 1810. Sime`on Denis Poisson tried to provide an exact mathematical analysis to Laplace
theorem. Poisson provided proof of the CLT for identically distributed variables. At the end of the
19th century mathematician was changing their train of thoughts from computational to fundamental (
pure math) mathematic. Dirichlet and Bessel followed in the footsteps of Laplace and Poisson. They
introduced the discontinuity factors , which proved Poisson s equation for an arbitrary value of n.
Cauchy s was the first mathematician to consider probability theory as pure mathematics. He found an
upper bond to the difference between the exact value and the approximation and then specified
conditions for those bound to tend to zero. The problem with his theorem was that it was not proven
for distributions with

  • 3. A Brief Note On The And The Affordable Care Act Mike Mosko English 2 3 December 2014 Obamacare vs. The Affordable Care Act: The role of news framing in health care reform. It has officially been over a year since the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, took the nation by storm. Along with its inception came a deeming quality as one of the most ambitious, as well as provocative, instances of health care reform the United States had ever seen. The basic premise of the law is an attempt to ensure that affordable health care is made available for all American public. This is accomplished by providing tax credits on health insurance plans offered by the government, such as Medicaid, to those who remain at a certain Federal Poverty Level and could previously not effort it. The idea is that these discounts would suddenly allow said people to have a better chance at doing so. In addition, the law protects patients with preexisting medical conditions or who suddenly fall ill, forbidding insurance companies from dropping them. It also allows young adults to stay on their parent s plans until the age of 26 and lowers rates for seniors. Those opposed to the law have retaliated, citing increased taxes, allocation of Federal and State funding, mandatory health coverage and, new, unnecessary obligations that insurance companies must follow. It is important to remember that ACA s background, as well as its general support, is Democratic while, the majority of those who oppose it are Republican. The clashing views of ... • 12. The Pros And Cons Of The Whaling Ban Despite the whaling ban in 1986 by the International Whaling Commission, some countries are refusing to stop doing this practice especially Japan. After the 1986 ban, Japan launched their supposed scientific whaling program which is widely known as their cover for their commercial whaling practice. Supporters of the whaling ban claim that reversing the ban will cause whale populations to become endangered or even extinct. Also, supporters of the IWC whaling ban say that the IWC should maintain the ban and establish stricter rules regarding the ban. Proponents also claim that the whale populations have yet to return to its former population before the excessive hunting happened. Anti whaling groups such as Greenpeace point to species such as the West Pacific gray whale, of which, according to some estimates, there are only about 100 left. According to Palumbi and Roman s whale population study, the North Atlantic humpback whale population before commercial whaling was more than 20 times what it is now.( ) Even with IWC whaling ban Japan, Iceland, and Norway continue to hunt illegally. Additionally, supporters of ban suggest that it is completely idiotic to risk lifting the ban for countries who claim that whaling is a part of their culture. And that banning whaling, a practice that whale hunters were doing for centuries is cultural imperialism and is totally unacceptable. • 13. Military Deployment Has Affected The Family System Throughout many years, military deployment has affected the family system. Especially young children are effected by their parents shipping overseas since they are still are trying to figure out how to cope without guidance during their development into adult years. In this particular study, researchers examined adolescents between the ages of 12 18 to determine their thoughts about their parents going into war. More specifically, researchers wanted to study the children s experiences with ambiguous loss within their military families. Researchers hope to find ways in prevention and intervention in order to reduce the feeling of uncertainty within adolescents. Sociologists determined that the ambiguous loss theory provides explanation of the youth s responses from the study. If children are uncertain of their parent s job entitlement then it helps with grieving, but may lead to depression and effecting future relationship with others. When parental deployment occurs, family life becomes a catastrophe since they are present for a short time. According to Boss, it is hard to set and organize roles and responsibilities in a family setting when one or both supervisors are frequently away. Another factor that was a part of the research was the Double ABC X framework, created by McCubbin and Patterson. The letter A was commonly seen during the sample where parental deployment and other stress factors, such as getting an A on a test, bothered the adolescent. In other words, ... Alcohol takes 130,000 lives annually, not including traffic fatalities. Marijuana has never killed anyone. Over 500,000 people die annually from tobacco and alcohol, more than 35 times the number of deaths from all illegal drugs combined. The Media Awareness Project reports that Tylenol, aspirin, Advil, Motrin and similar medications have accounted for four times more emergency hospital visits than all street drugs combined. It therefore comes as no surprise that James Burke, CEO of Johnson Johnson creator of Tylenol founded the PDFA in 1989. From wooden bookshelves to chalkboard handwriting, the Open Book seems to be a space removed from the digital age of Kindles and fancy computer search systems. How Did The Beat Generation Influence Counter Culture Eleanor Wellik Hour 5 11/21/2014 Beat Generation s Effect on Music Many years from now counter culture through the ages Cultural movements serve as massive forces of change for not just the members of those movements, but entire nations. The counterculture movement of 1960s America was a drastic shift in ideals among the youth of the U.S. that paved the way for breakthroughs in American culture. These waves would ripple through the next decades with the young adults and their music as the main carriers of the counterculture message. However, the spark that ignited this giant flame began in the 50s with The Beats: a group of non conformist poets based in New York. Ginsberg s poetry stylings were even affected by his Eastern religion pursuits, and his writings suggest hints of haiku like pauses from early on in his career, and later Hindu like chants. Ginsberg s Indian retreat for spirituality indeed seems very similar to what the Beatles would set off to do in 1967 when they flew off to. • 18. A Method of Doubt and Descartes Essay A Method of Doubt and Descartes In his first meditation, Descartes sets out with amazing clarity and persistence to clear himself of every false idea that he has acquired previous to this, and determine what he truly knows. To rid him of these rotten apples he has developed a method of doubt with a goal to construct a set of beliefs on foundations which are indubitable. On these foundations, Descartes applies three levels of skepticism, which in turn, generate three levels at which our thoughts may be deceived by error. Descartes states quite explicitly in the synopsis, that we can doubt all things which are material as long as we have no foundations for the sciences other than those which we have had up till now (synopsis:12). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3. It is wise not to trust anything that has been deceiving in the past 4. Therefore, it is possible to be mistaken about everything. In premise one his beliefs are derived from the senses, such as he sees that he has a paper in his hand and concludes that it is a paper, and what is meant by through the senses, is that his beliefs may have been based on others sense experience. All Descartes requires for the second premise is the possibility that he may have been deceived, for if he cannot decide which is wrong, than he must not have any knowledge. This leads to the third premise where it seems at least reasonable to assume, that if one has been deceived previously, there is no absolute assurance that it is presently correct. Therefore, there is a chance of being deceived about everything. But many critics will argue that several of these false percepts can be corrected by means of alternative senses, such as he bent stick in water example. Although our sight may be tricked into thinking that the mirage exists, by using the sense of touch we can correct this falseness, and uncover what truly exists. Descartes does retreat, and assess the damage from his first level by saying, there are many other beliefs about which doubt is quite impossible, even though they are derived from the senses for example, that I am here, sitting by the fire, wearing a winter dressing gown.. • 19. The Formula Of Magnesium Oxide The purpose of this experiment is to verify the formula of magnesium oxide based on the masses of magnesium and the product (MgO). We verify the formula firstly by calculating the empirical formula of magnesium oxide and then calculating creating the magnesium oxide itself a magnesium ribbon is combined with oxygen in the presence of air through combustion and this forms MgO. The empirical formula of a compound is the simplest method of expressing a chemical formula in whole number ratios of the constituent atoms that are consistent with masses measured in the experiment; whereas the molecular formula expresses the chemical formula using the actual number of atoms. For example, the molecular formula of anthracene is C14H10 while the empirical formula is C7H5. Because of the Law of Definite Proportions, when the elements of magnesium and oxygen chemically react to form a compound they do so in definite proportions by weight. The Law of Definite Proportions states that if elements form a compound, they must combine in definite proportions by weight. This means that all atoms form chemical compounds by combining in whole number ratios. Take for example the elements of hydrogen and oxygen: they can combine to make water (H2O) but in other conditions can combine to make hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). In both examples the ratio stays the same. Likewise, in this experiment the elements magnesium and oxygen combine in whole number ratios. We have hypothesized that magnesium and oxygen ... Indonesia Trade Brief Introduction The KOF Index of Globalization ranks Indonesia 87th in the world in total globalization, below its immediate neighbors like Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and well below Singapore. The country ranked 76th in economic globalization, 146th in social globalization and 39th in political globalization. The country s economic globalization score is based on trade flows and restrictions, equally. Indonesia s score in terms of economic trade is likely dragged down by its significant trade barriers. These barriers represent an obstacle to flourishing trade for Indonesia, which otherwise performs well in terms of its international trade profile. Data and Arguments The country s economy is in the trillion dollar class, and ranks 16th in the world, just below Canada and just above Turkey (CIA World Factbook, 2012). With ranks of 27th in the world for exports, 30th for imports, 34th for inbound FDI and 37th for outbound FDI (Ibid), Indonesia s flows are much greater than its globalization ranking would indicate. This points to trade barriers as being a drag on its KOF score. These figures at least to some extent tied to commodity prices, as Indonesia s exports and inbound FDI in particular are tied to its mineral and forest wealth (World Bank, 2010). • 32. Great Lakes Water Piping Great Lakes Water Piping Unbiased Introduction For years, there has been debate over who has access to the water in the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes provide about 20 percent of the world s freshwater resources and many areas would like to use that water for various purposes. Water is also becoming a valuable resource, with many areas lacking the access to it necessary for their area s needs. Because of this, lawmakers passed a compact in 2008 that was designed to protect the Great Lakes against pressure from other States to withdraw water (Kalsness, 2011). A compact is an agreement between states or nations that bind them to whatever they agreed upon. This compact makes sure that areas outside of the Great Lakes region do not have access to the water. Despite this compact, some want to use the Great Lakes to pipe water to other states that do not have the same natural resources. Proponents of this piping say that is gives water to areas that need it and that it will provide additional income to the area (Cauchon, 2006). Opponents say that piping would go against water conservation and environmental protection as well as water management. They also say that it is a natural resource that belongs to the area and should not be taken away to other areas of the country (Dempsey, 2008). Currently, the debate continues about the correct use of the resource of the Great Lakes. Supporting For Arguments Those who are in favor of piping the water out of the Great ... Examples Of Modernism In Mrs Dalloway Modernist Style in Virginia Woolf s Mrs Dalloway The period of modernism, and the new way of thinking and writing it brought, was hugely influenced by the changes in society occurring in the Western world at the beginning of the 19th century. World War I awakened the topic of the meaning of life and death, and together with the modernizing industrial societies and growing cities, altered people s view of the world. During this period, writers responded to the change in the perception of the world and thus shifted their focus of writing from social issues to the experience and consciousness of an individual. There are two temporal areas in which Woolf s characters exist; the chronological time which is common and identical to everyone and cannot be stopped, and the subjective, inner time of one s consciousness, which is perceived individually by each individual s thoughts, memories and experiences from the past. The flow of thoughts, or the stream of consciousness takes place in the character s inner time and includes both past memories originating from a present situation as well as a possible future action which is related to the previous ones. Both of these temporal lines are important, though Mrs Dalloway is more concerned with the inner time and the stream of consciousness. To Virginia Woolf, time, existence, and the human mind psyche are interconnecting and must therefore be dealt with from the inside of her characters. The chronological time, though still exists throughout the novel as a timeframe for the reader, and the characters are constantly being reminded of it. Virginia Woolf seems to have been influenced by Henri Bergson s views on time. In Mrs Dalloway, time is also being perceived as a continuous flux, in which the past, the present, and the future are connected. Moreover, by exposing some seemingly insignificant details and revealing personal views and memories of secondary characters, Woolf is able to depict the whole life story of Clarissa Dalloway, through the span of just one day. The style of the text in the novel, which connects words and fragments together with a number of dashes, colons and semicolons, represents the complexity of Clarissa s mind; with the use of the stream of consciousness technique and playing around with time and memories, Woolf manages to depict all the important moments in the life of Clarissa ... • 40. Case Study On Blood Transfusion INTRODUCTION Blood is one of the integral components of body constituents, which flows throughout body and becomes a reason for survival. Blood transfusion is a life saving intervention for patients in need of transfusion. Blood borne infections are common serious hurdles of blood transfusion. Considering the serious consequences of these infections and to hold back the transmission to minimum, it is extremely important to remain vigilant about the possible spread of these diseases in the course of blood transfusion1. Transfusion safety begins with healthy donors. Blood transfusion is safer than ever before through continuous improvements in donor recruitment, screening, testing of donated blood with increasingly sensitive assays, and appropriate clinical use of blood. Serologic testing for transfusion transmitted infections had historically been the foundation of blood screening, while newer strategies like nucleic acid testing (NAT) have helped further shorten the window period . Moreover, threat of infectious agents entering the blood supply is not constant and may evolve as new pathogens emerge or when old ones change their epidemiological pattern. In 2002, the Government of India adopted the National Blood Policy An action plan for blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schlosser wrote this book because he was concerned with where the fast food industry was taking America. He voices his concern about the children and their health regarding meat bacteria, and the fat content of the food. He also mentions how potato farmers, cattle ranchers, and chicken raisers are suffering from the industry controlling prices too low. Another worry Schlosser has is how the meat packing factories for these restaurants treat their workers and ultimately how careful they are with the meat. There are many horrifying stories about the harsh injuries and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of these managers looking out for their workers, they try to hide the injuries, and will give injured employees easier jobs until they are healed, if they agree to not visit the doctor. They feel the need to hide minor injuries because a supervisor must meet production goals, keep the number of recorded injuries low, and most importantly, keep the meat flowing down the line without interruption (Schlosser 175). The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is responsible for inspecting meatpacking plants and making sure they are operating and functioning properly. The old OSHA policy was that, there were 1,300 inspectors and over 5 million workplaces to be looked at. The employers would expect an inspection about every 80 years (Schlosser 179). Now, for an inspection to even be done, the factories injury rate must be higher than the national average. There is a slim chance of that happening because the records are kept by the companies officials, since the have direct control on the number of injury reports. Schlosser brings up an interesting statement about OSHA s policy when he says they did indeed reduce the number of recorded injuries in meatpacking plants. It did not, however, reduce the number of people getting hurt. It merely encouraged companies, in the words of a subsequent congressional investigation, to understate ... • 43. Mr. Palomar By Italo Calvino Mr. Palomar exhibits a unique interesting character throughout the entire book Mr. Palomar by Italo Calvino. The odd slipper (Page 99 101), specifically addresses a lot of Mr. Palomar s perspectives on simple topics, it clearly shows that Mr. Palomar is a deep thinker and it conveys his habit of over complicating matters that are supposed to be simple, it is effective in highlighting the image that Mr. Palomar is a character who tends to isolate himself from the world by questioning it and examining every aspect of our being and stance in society. The odd slipper (Page 99) is about Mr. Palomar receiving a mismatched shoe while shopping in Bazaar. This passage displays the sudden division of Mr. Palomar s seemingly strong perspective into two different, opposing viewpoints. One is that at first, Mr. Palomar believed that by purchasing a mismatched shoe, he had started a chain of events that would cause consequences in the future: centuries can go by before the consequences of this mistake affect another visitor to that ancient bazaar. Every process of disintegration in the order of the world is irreversible; the effects, however, are hidden and delayed by the dust cloud of the big numbers, which contains virtually limitless possibilities of new symmetries, combinations, pairings. (Page 100) By saying this, Mr. Palomar means that any changes in the world that bring about disorder are irreversible, but their consequences may actually be hidden until the very end. ... • 44. Some Could Suckle Over Their Shoulder By Jennifer Morgan... Stephanie Malena Hist B17a TR 1:00 2:35pm September 26, 2017 Sexist Decline to Racism In Jennifer Morgan s article Some Could Suckle over Their Shoulder : Male Travelers, Female Bodies, and the Gendering of Racial Ideology, she suggests that sexist beliefs contributed to the justification of racialized slavery. She proves this by providing accounts of European explorers describing those they encountered, which at first reveal an admiration for the strength and beauty they (African women) possessed but later began to associate them with unholy beasts . These Europeans lacked the ability to understand the independence of women in the matriarchal tribes having been blinded by biases learned by living in a patriarchal society. Once Native Americans and Africans were demonized for their lifestyles and deemed savage, they were more easily viewed as livestock rather than human beings. It became easier to enslave an entire race when they decided they were superior to those of a darker skin tone. A frequent source in Morgan s article is from Richard Ligon and his depiction of his personal encounters with other civilizations. Upon first meeting a black woman Ligon stated she was of the greatest beauty and majesty together: that ever I saw in one woman (12). He found her physically beautiful and seemed to find her ... • 47. John Calvin s Influence On Church History What Influence did John Calvin have on Church History? John Calvin was born on July 10, 1509 at Noyon, in Picardy, which is the northern providence of France, located 60 miles northeast of Paris. If you do the math, next July of 2009 the Christendom would celebrate the 500th anniversary of the birth of Calvin, which many Bible conferences around the world are already preparing for next year. Calvin entered the University Of Paris at the age of 14, and mastered almost everything he turned his attention to, including a brilliant writing style and masterful skill in logic and logical argument. At the age of 19, he graduated with his Master of Arts degree. And at the age of 22, he mastered a classical literature and published his first literary commentary. However, for many centuries prior to the Reformation, the typical hermeneutical methods were allegorizing and spiritualizing the text. Having such methods, the church can say about anything she wants to believe what the Bible says and means. Such hermeneutical gymnastics was a license for much of ecclesiastical abuses. But for Calvin, the meaning of the text was the meaning of the text. What drove him to handle the Word with such precision was due to his commitment to biblical exegesis. In fact, he is considered the father of the modern day grammatico historical method of hermeneutics. To answer what grammatical historical hermeneutics is, it is simply an interpreting rule in which the interpreter considers the historical context and grammatical structure for the specific text that he wishes to understand the way that the biblical author originally intended to convey. Calvin understood that without the proper exegesis of Scripture, there is no expositional preaching. In other words, biblical exegesis is the foundational work for proper expository ... • 49. Passing, By Nella Larsen Mariem Kakeh Prof. Kangyl Ko English 63 10 October 6, 2015 Midterm Essay Passing, by Nella Larsen Passing, by Nella Larsen is a novel all about pretending to be something that you are not. It is about giving everyone the impression that everything is in order when in reality everything is falling apart. Passing in this novel refers to the ability of a person to be classified as one thing, normally a social group, while belonging to a different group. Passing is usually done to gain class or acceptance by groups other than one s own. The primary focus of the novel is on racial passing which is the ability to look white and belong to a white group when in reality the person is an African American in order to gain privileges that were unavailable to them. Although racial passing is the main focus, another major theme in this novel is sexual passing and identity. Sexual passing refers to a person s ability to be judged or viewed as a heterosexual person but in reality they are homosexual or bisexual. This was a masked theme in the novel because in the early 1900 s, homosexuality was not something that was accepted. Larsen made it aware that these were real problems in those times without coming out directly and saying it. The main plot of Passing focuses on two light skinned black women, Irene Redfield and her old time friend Clare Kendry. Both women can pass as white women. • 50. Central Limit Theorem And The Distribution Of The Number... Central Limit Theorem Abraham De Moivre, a French mathematician, published an article 1733, which he used the normal distribution to approximate the distribution of the number of heads resulting from many tosses of a coin. His work was nearly forgotten until another French mathematician can along who name was Pierre Simon Laplace. Laplace explained De Moivre s findings by approximating the binomial distribution with normal distribution. In 1785 Laplace introduced the characteristic functions which were the sum of error distribution, which took the value of 1 and +1 with equal probabilities. This work helped Laplace with the concept of the CLT, which he wrote a paper on in 1810. Sime`on Denis Poisson tried to provide an exact mathematical analysis to Laplace theorem. Poisson provided proof of the CLT for identically distributed variables. At the end of the 19th century mathematician was changing their train of thoughts from computational to fundamental ( pure math) mathematic. Dirichlet and Bessel followed in the footsteps of Laplace and Poisson. They introduced the discontinuity factors , which proved Poisson s equation for an arbitrary value of n. Cauchy s was the first mathematician to consider probability theory as pure mathematics. He found an upper bond to the difference between the exact value and the approximation and then specified conditions for those bound to tend to zero. The problem with his theorem was that it was not proven for distributions with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
