Techie 12 Research Paper
If fishing is your thing, but you want a paddle board that is a little smaller than the Dragonfly 13 6 ,
then the Techie 12 is a good choice. While previous paddle boards from Dragonfly could be used for
fishing, the Techie has been specifically designed for the hard core angler. According to Dragonfly, the
purpose of the board is frill free fishing, but this doesn t mean that they skimped on features.
What makes the Techie special is the fact that it is hand crafted using vinyl ester resin with bi
directional fabric. It also has a 30 inch beam and beaded foam core. Dragonfly included two cubic
square feet of forward dry storage in the twelve foot hull and a small circular well in the aft. The
forward storage is insulated and the aft well is compatible with an optional pump. Also on this board
you ll find three flush mounted rail systems and how you customize it with camera mounts, rod
holders and other accessories is up to you. Also of note is the unique water shedding deck and ocean
grip padding. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, it has a removable fin system and drain plug. Don t let the light weight fool you as this
board is able to float about 320 pounds. Dragonfly Boatworks is known for the quality that goes into
their products and this can clearly be seen with the Techie 12 . If you are a fishing purist and want a
reliable paddle board that does everything you need it to do out on the water then don t miss out on the

Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis Essay
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
Mere Christianity, by C. S. Lewis, is written as set of guidelines of Christian belief. Lewis does not
say there is any particular way to believe but he does make a point that the topic of religion itself is
serious. As you consider whether you want to believe or not, you have to recognize how much thought
it requires, and how thought provoking a process this decision is. Lewis covers Christianity in four
different books within his book. In book one, Lewis discusses the Law of Nature and makes note of a
tendency in humans of appealing to a standard of absolute truth in quarrels and arguments. He calls
this standard the Law of Nature or the Moral Law. The Law isn t the same as the law of gravity ...

Lewis argument in the third book is most important to the point I want to discuss. He argues through
this chapter the Christian behavior. Morality is what he considers to be the basics of good Christian
behavior. Lewis states that morality is not simply, something that prevents you from having a good
time , but rather morals are the directions for running the human machine . Every moral rule is there to
prevent wear and tear on the way machine operates. He realizes that is why the rules seem to be
constantly getting in the way of are natural behavior. Lewis sees that some people think in terms of
moral ideals not rules and obedience. Ideals suggest preference to personal taste. Something that
subjective would be meaningless in practice. Idealistic notions are meaningless unless we try to carry
them out. Acting on ideals requires rules. Lewis uses the analogy of the ship to show how ideals
without rules can go wrong. If the ships keep on having crashes they will not be able to sail. If their
steering gears do not work they will not be able to avoid crashes.
The cardinal virtues are seven virtues that help guide us to have good morality. Prudence is the first
virtue and is having the common sense enough to think about what you are doing and what are the
consequences. Temperance is finding moderation in your lifestyle. Justice includes traits like honesty,
the ability to give and take, keeping promises, and so on. Fortitude includes two kinds of courage: the

Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is when someone is experiencing episodes of cessation of breaths
during sleep because of their upper airway relaxing and obstructing air flow during sleep. The
episodes usually last for ten seconds or greater and is usually accompanied with a decreased oxygen
saturation. Although the airway is relaxed and obstructing airflow, the body (brain) is still attempting
to breathe. When breathing has resumed from its apneic state, there is usually a loud gasping snore
and or body jerking which can lead to restless sleep for the person with OSA and their partner.
According the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute more than twelve million people in the United
States have this clinical disorder. People who have OSA may be sleepy in the day and experience
subsequent disorders such as oxyhemoglobin desaturation, pulmonary hypertension, right sided heart
failure, arrhythmias, myocardial infarction and diabetes. Proper diagnosing and treatment of a person
with OSA can yield optimal results thereby improving quality of life.
Some causes or risk factors of Obstructive Sleep Apnea are being overweight or obese, having a large
neck, having a narrow airway, high blood pressure, diabetes, being middle aged, and having a genetic
predisposition. Patients with OSA seem to have high cholesterol with an increase in LDL s and a
decrease in HDL s (good cholesterol (Nadeem R, 2014). Intermittent sleep or sleep deprivation causes
changes in the way the body metabolizes

Answer 1
The standard model of technical writing is a style and structure that has been widely used for about
fifty years. This documenting method, which is usually taught in schools, is how most professional
scientists, engineers, and other technical writers choose to write. The main features of a document that
follows the standard model include the following:
Abstract or summary: A brief overview of the document, including its conclusions and
recommendations if there are any. An average length for an abstract is about 300 words; however,
some scientific journals actually specify the required number of words. The

Equal Rights to Marry for Same-Sex Couples
California Proposition 8: Same Sex Marriage
The equal right to marry for same sex couples in the United States has acquired growing public
support over time, with a quantity of state level laws passed and others presently up for debate.
Proposition 8 was a ballot proposition and constitutional amendment that was passed in the November
2008 state elections in California. The measure added a new provision, Section 7.5 of the Declaration
of Rights, to the California Constitution, which provides that only marriage between a man and a
woman is legitimate or recognized in California. By limiting the acknowledgment of marriage to
opposite sex couples, the proposition reversed the California Supreme Court s ruling of In re Marriage
Cases that same sex couples have a constitutional right to get married (Newman, 2010). The wording
of Proposition 8 was exactly the same as Proposition 22, which had passed in 2000 and, as an ordinary
statute, had been nullified by the State Supreme Court in 2008. California s State Constitution put
Proposition 8 into instant effect the day after the election (Scotto, 2010). Supporters of the
constitutional amendment contended that solely heterosexual marriage was a necessary institution of
society and that leaving the constitution untouched would result in public schools teaching the kids
that gay marriage is okay, and that gays do not have the right to redefine marriage for everyone else.
Opponents contended that the freedom to marry is

Compare And Contrast A Barred Owl And The History Teacher
It s the dead of the night and the shrieking calls of a barred owl break the silence. A young child bolts
upright in bed with fear written across her innocent face. A teacher s class is about to be taught a
lesson on The Ice Age. The parents of the frightened child hush their daughter and say it was just an
inquisitive owl that scared her awake. The teacher pulls on a sweater and says, Cavemen wore these a
lot in The Ice Age. The children in these scenarios are the victims of deceit. Both poems, A Barred
Owl and The History Teacher by Richard Wilbur and Billy Collins show the effects of not exposing
children to the truth early on in life. The parent and teacher mentioned are only concerned about their
children s innocence remaining intact, and they don t take into consideration how sheltering them
from the truth life holds will affect the children s minds. Wilbur and Collins ... Show more content on

When the child was put to bed, the sky was probably not as dark as it was when she was woken by the
owl. Wilbur s words reveal this when the poem begins on a lighter note than the gruesome ending. An
owl has eyes that are much larger than those of the child mentioned. That being said, this barred owl
can clearly see the world and the life around him. The child cannot due to the fact that her parents are
preventing her from such exposure. Innocent minds deserve a healthy dose of reality provided in the
form of truthful explanations from the adults in their lives. The poem, The History Teacher leans
towards a more playful and bright tone than the tone Wilbur used in A Barred Owl. It almost sounds
ironic that Collins titled the poem, The History Teacher because when spoken in a sarcastic tone it
sounds like he s mocking the teacher. He calls him a history teacher sarcastically because the poet
agrees with the fact that this teacher isn t actually teaching history. He s feeding the children

Pgc Personal Statement
I am currently studying for a BA (Hons) in History at Sheffield Hallam University, and it is my
ambition to study for a Primary PGCE. I have always been interested in teaching and after completing
work experience at a nursery while in high school, I was eager to gain even more classroom
experience whilst at University. The time I have spent in a primary school while at University has
reinforced my desire to teach.
My experiences with children in Key Stage 1 have proved both rewarding and enlightening. In
particular, the time spent in the classroom allowed me to fully appreciate how much I enjoy
communicating with children at this level. The interaction allows discovery of their understanding,
their development level and their ability. Communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What I observed was a teacher who made her class interactive and entertaining, as well as tasking,
which kept the children engaged and focused throughout all the activities. She gave the children a
chance to succeed by giving them different tasks to suit their intellectual ability. It was evident to me
that when children felt a task was achievable, they stayed focused and succeeded. In turn, this was
extremely confidence boosting. She had such a positive attitude towards her work and the children,
which provided a positive learning environment.
I have a passion for education and believe that teaching children at a primary level is extremely
rewarding as it is the initial step in transforming the lives of young people to prepare them for high
school, university and careers. I am looking forward to developing my knowledge of the curriculum

A Career Plan To Become A Professional Engineer
One of my primary short term career is to get a job in the field of civil engineering within 3 months of
graduating. My goal would be for this job to located in the Midwest, more specifically in the tri state
area of South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa. I am open to a job in any sub discipline, but preferably in
the areas of structural, geotechnical, or transportation. To achieve this goal, I need to be proactive in
my job searching approach and to continue to do well in my class work and continue my involvement
with ASCE. My biggest criterion for my job would be that I would work underneath a Professional
Engineer doing engineering work that would allow me to sit for the Principles and Practice of
Engineering (PE) exam, as becoming a Professional Engineer is also a short term of mine. My goal
would be to become a Professional Engineer within five years of graduating. An important first step in
my goal of becoming a PE is to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
I believe that I will have the skill set to accomplish my short term goals once graduating. I believe that
not only my strong knowledge of fundamental principles of civil engineering, but also my ability to
learn quickly, will be adequate in achieving my goals. There are still skills that I feel I am weak in,
and if improved, would increase the likelihood of reach my goals. Skills I am still weak at are being
proactive in searching for a job and writing a resume. I can address my fault of not being proactive

Movie Essays
Romanticism in the Film Version of The Big Sleep
In Raymond Chandler s novel The Big Sleep, he presents two sisters, Vivian and Carmen. These
women become the central characters, aside from Philip Marlowe, and they control much of the action
in the novel. The 1946 film version of The Big Sleep, however, manipulates Chandler s characters
considerably. Aside from playing with the dialogue of the novel, the screen writers change the very
essences of Vivian and Carmen. Perhaps it is the casting of the film which forces changes from the
novel, or perhaps the Production Code keeps the writers from developing the women in the way that
Chandler does; either way, the film version of The Big Sleep makes the story romantic and ... Show

(Chandler 19)
In the novel, Marlowe doesn t care for Vivian anymore than she does for him. A fact that is hammered
home throughout the novel in the dialogue between these two characters.
In the movie, however, there is a distinct attraction between the characters, purposely created to
capitalize on the real life affair between Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Director Howard
Hawks was charged with creating a movie vehicle for these stars as a result of their incredible
chemistry from the earlier movie To Have and Have Not. Bogart and Bacall were phenomenally well
matched on screen and off, and Hawks decided that The Big Sleep was the best film to display their
chemistry. In order to do so, the script needed to be revised from the novel. The novel calls for
Marlowe and Vivian to go their separate ways, with Marlowe discretely threatening to reveal Vivian s
secrets and Vivian shattered and responsible for Carmen s deranged life. Hawks asked William
Faulkner to create a screenplay that would maximize the drama while maintaining an air of romance
between Bogart and Bacall. The script that resulted concluded with Marlowe and Vivian together,
presumably heading off into the sunset towards an implied marriage; the traditional happy ending.
The character of Vivian that comes out of Faulkner s script is softer and more dynamic than Chandler
s Vivian. Faulkner s sings in a gambling

Derrick Rose proclaimed that the New York Knicks would be a super team. Doubling down on that
statement a month later. But this was all preseason hype. A new employee in a new city, looking to
show how much he believed in his new team and teammates. As a Knick fan, I was excited to see that
kind of boastfulness coming from a NY Knicks point guard but I was also highly skeptical. So, after
20% of the season logged, where do the Knicks and Rose s prediction stand?
After a tough road loss to the Hornets on Saturday night and a tough loss at home to the Russell

Minnesota Timberwolves. Currently, third in the Atlantic division, three games behind the first place

They re middle of the pack in other categories but this assessment is more of an eye test. Rose and
Melo have never been known as defensive players but they are trying. They have picked up their
intensity on the defensive end. Courtney Lee and Noah add some energy and decent defensive skills
that add to the overall team D which can be contagious. There have been stretches during games
where they feed off of each other s energy on the defensive end, which translates into positive
offensive positions. They are playing with a sense of urgency that I haven t seen in awhile.
4) Brandon Jennings Having a legit starting PG is crucial to being competitive in the NBA but having

Danielle Agoglia s Study Of Jealousy
Something Mr. Naji brought up was that jealousy and paranoia about what your partner is doing.
Those same temptations you may feel are also pressures for them afterall. But miss Danielle Agoglia,
from Elite Daily, offers another perspective: you need to trust your partner. Letting go of all those
fears and concerns and simply realizing that your partner, just like you, is in love and wants to make
this work. Just like the participants in Meitzner and Li wen s study, Agoglia found she began to trust
herself a lot more as she trusted her partner. While these are all anecdotal evidence, I do think it can
lend itself to making one think at the very least. Essentially, as you trust your partner you not only
better the relationship by lessening or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless, trusting your partner not only to do right by you and your relationship but also to help you
when you need it can take a lot of stress off of your shoulders. Learning to really and truly trust your
partner, while easier said than done is essential to a functioning long distance relationship.
There is a difference between trusting support and dependency, however. It is a very important
difference too. As an individual, each partner must come to terms with the distance and be able to fend
for themselves. This may seem at odds with the previous two maintenance methods as it advocates for
more independence from the relationship, but it is important. Unlike a lot of couples you can t live
together and have separate lives and finances. This makes practical support incredibly difficult, so
instead couples emotionally support each other. This is good, and should definitely be encouraged
behavior. Unfortunately, some couples will become emotionally dependent. What this means is that
one partner relies on the other as the source for his or her happiness. In her article on The Huffington
Post, Margaret Paul discusses this issue. I often see couples where one partner is emotionally
dependent

Terrestrial Isopods
METHODS
Study Site and Species Isopods (Armadillidium vulgare) can be found universally in nearly every
temperate climate under natural debris (CITE). Terrestrial isopods do not contain a waxy cuticle on
their exoskeleton, making them more susceptible to suffer water loss through their water permeable
exoskeleton (CITE). A. vulgare uses the permeable exoskeleton to also excrete one form of
nitrogenous waste, while the other form is excreted through uric acid (CITE). Experimental Design
The experiment was performed testing two independent variables, light and soil moisture. A
constructed box was split into six equal sections, occurring one right after the next, and dividers with
cutouts were placed in between each section. A tall divider was placed after the third section,
separating half of the sections from each other. The experiment was designed to test both light and

minute, excess water was poured off, repeating the cycle until no more water was found to be pooling

Is Beowulf A Hero Or Real
Are heroes more heroic and real when they are flawed or perfect? Heroes are supposed to be real and
themselves. They should lead by good example. Especially people who have a positive impression on
others. True heroes have weaknesses. If they do not have weaknesses, why should they fight if no one
would win? In the film Beowulf, he goes through trials and temptations. The hero also makes many
regretful decisions but he is still an excellent leader.
Beowulf is a brave warrior. Heroes are supposed to be reliable and always willing to help. They

Every human has exaggerated personal stories to sound more heroic. Hrothgar tells Beowulf where the

bottom. When he arrives he encounters a beautiful woman, Grendel s mother. In Beowulf, she lures
him into making an agreement with her. She tells him if I keep the horn, you will be king (Beowulf).
Beowulf agrees to the deal, he takes Grendel s head and leaves. When he arrives back to land, he tells
the Danes he has killed the beast that intrudes their peace. He shows them Grendel s head to prove to
them he killed the beast. They all cheered in excitement to their hero s accomplishment. In the
literature, Beowulf is honorable, and trustworthy. Heroes are supposed to keep their word. He

Conclusion Of A Utopia
Every modern architects is trying to achieve a dream they have never been perfectly successful society
a Utopia. The word utopia first described as fictional island society in Sir Thomas More s book Utopia
in 1516 as perfect community with a visionary system of political and society cities that function to
improve man s daily lives and free from problems. This imagination city can never exist. Yet, the
concept of utopia has influenced to the arts, especially architects. In the early 20th century, the world
was facing the destruction by World War 1. A modernist movement was beginning by Le Corbusier,
Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, to name the best known among them. By bringing in new

The most important is everything has to be functional. Thus, modernists planned the urban according
to their function and purpose. Residential and commercial were always separated by zoning. Mostly
these two zone is separated by district or interlinking road. Most of them are far with each other. Each
zone has to be practical and functional on their own purpose. This is also what a Utopia aim to be.
Function is more important than everything.
Chapter 4.0 Conclusion Utopia was mean to be perfect but no utopia can ever give satisfaction to
everyone. In fact, people are demanding more and the pricier price will be pay for the satisfaction.
This is what will be happen whenever things are going same to a large number of people and
eventually humanity will be drowned. The evolution of machine might change the quality lifestyle of
human but it is reversing humanity. There are a lot of agree and disagreement about utopia. Some
agree that utopia represented the ideological of the whole society. Eventually some disagree this
statement and said utopia is impossible to success and listing out the reason of failure of utopia. In my
opinion, there is no wrong or right in utopia. Human have to learn from the wrong and making it right.

Notes On The Pony Express
pg.1 The Pony Express The Pony Express was an extremely important event in history for three
profoundly good reasons. All together, it helped the farther east states to keep in contact with the West,
news of what was happening, important documents, sometimes small packages and family letters were
being sent to different states, and it helped for new and more improved ideas of how could the
spreading of news could be spread faster and safer. The good reason of keeping all the states in contact

the world by crossing the ocean faster by air and on the water was invented and later on perfecting in
this time of life.
History: The basic reason, because Pony Express was thought of and put into action is because of the
response to the Civil War and with the Great California Gold Rush. In the midst of the 1800s, as
individuals traveled to the West Coast in search of fortune and with the country teetered on the brink
of war, three businessmen, William H. Russell, William B. Waddell, and Alexander Majors, saw an
opportunity that would help them and also for the people. By keeping the east connected with the
west, the Pony Express held the nation together. Young Pony Express riders charged across the
country by over two thousand miles of wilderness were crossed, including a section of high mountain
desert located in Nevada. For the Pony Express, the standard delivery time for letters were ranged
from days to weeks which sometimes led a month. In 1860, William H. Russell, William B. Waddell,
and Alexander Majors, believed they could change that with the Pony Express. The plans for the Pony
Express were put into action on April 3,1860 as soon as men under 18 from

It s All About Giving a Dam
The dam and reservoir required the purchase of about 22,000 acres of land 1 1 . This is the number
that lies at the heart of a wound and a controversy that is deeply rooted in Eastern Tennessee. While
the number is large and significant, it is not the amount of land that was lost to the Tellico Dam project
that caused the people of that area such grief. Rather, it was the meaning of the land that once

However, due to the demand for soldiers for World War II the wheels of the operation did not
officially begin until almost 30 years later (1). Approval for the Tellico project came in the early 1960s
when the TVA had the unified support of congressional delegates from Tennessee, as well as all other
southeastern states that would be directly affected by the damming of the Little Tennessee River. On
April 15, 1963, after the endorsement for the project was approved, congressional funding was sought
after in order to move forward with foundational structure. Finally, after a few minor complications in
procedure, the Public Works Appropriation Act included $3.2 million to begin the construction of the
tellico Dam in March of 1967. (21) Originally, the support for the dam on the governmental side was
lacking, due to the notion that the benefit to cost ratio hovered around .6 to 1. The rationale for such
dismal projections was due to the fact that Tellico Dam could not stand alone as a power generation
project. This forced the TVA to adjust how they pitched the idea to receive enough funding to ensure
that the idea received enough support.(16) Rather than focusing on a energy efficiency and
infrastructural growth as a platform, the Authority presented to plan as social benefit the otherwise
rural and quiet society. The

My Experience Of Moving To A New Country
Moving to a new house it s exciting but moving to a new country it s terrifying. That s how I felt when
I moved here to the states, terrified. Entering unknown land without knowing a sense of English can
be very overwhelming at a young age. Leaving my family was definitely one of the hardest thing I ve
experienced because I couldn t just drive back to visit them. Even though I was only 12 when I moved
from Venezuela, that journey has helped me grow and have a better mindset. I get to see things
differently and have a different look on life. I would say that it has definitely help me transition from
childhood to adulthood. Because moving with new people, learning a new culture and language is
something special yet so stressing. At times I find

Pursuing A Theatre Career
For most of my life I have enjoyed being on stage and performing live theatre for the enjoyment of
others. But recently, I have been debating whether or not this activity can be more than just fun. Could
I really be an actress and get money for it? Am I good enough to make it big? I was in what I liked to
call a theatre slump . But, one man believed in me and helped me to believe in my dreams again. He
helped me get out of this slump .
I auditioned for two shows in the time span of 2 months, and I did not get into either one of them. First
came Chicago, where all the girls were wearing leotards and dancing in their high heels. Well, at age
16 I was a tad bit too young to be cast but I still rocked my audition. And when the cast list came out, I

It was an awesome show, and the lead female role, Ariel Moore, seemed to be just like what I could
potentially do onstage. So, I decided to audition. I chose a great belting song to show off my voice and
I didn t worry about the dancing. I just had fun. And then I got a callback. My very first callback.
The directors wanted me to read for Ariel Moore, the lead. I kept my cool and I acted the way I
thought the character would. All my knowledge came from the movie and the musical version I had
watched on YouTube. The next day the cast list came out. And there was my name right next to Ariel
Moore. I was happier than ever. I thought I was horrible and I was so close to just quitting this dream
of mine. But then I took a big chance and I got it.
This whole experience has taught me that I need to follow my dreams no matter how hard they may
seem to accomplish. If I believe in myself anything is possible. I owe the man who cast me as Ariel
Moore so much, for if he hadn t taken a chance on me, I might not be following my dream

Ridgway Argumentative Essay
It takes a lot to rip apart a town. It takes a lot to ravage a community, particularly one as tightly knit as
Ridgway, Pennsylvania. Nestled snugly at the southeastern edge of Allegheny National Forest,
Ridgway s population has dipped to just below four thousand in recent years, though in its 191 years
of settlement, it s never once been called home by more than roughly six thousand people at once. Its
proximity to the forest attracts huntsmen and hikers alike, but unless one were actively looking for the
town the square mileage of which comes in at just over two and a half miles, total it would be
remarkably easy for Ridgway to not make a blip on someone s radar at all. It s small, out of the way,
and most of all, quiet a recipe for insignificance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This time, the victim was a man in his early twenties, and he was discovered, wrapped haphazardly in

committed by the same people, due to the fact that the victims were of different genders and had been

pointed to their sleepy little Pennsylvanian town having a potential serial killer on their hands. When
the story broke in the local newspaper, the killer had received an official pseudonym: the Ridgway

According to Greene, J., Polivka, A., (2008), and the data that used to find the
impact of Hurricane Katrina on the labor market. The estimation based on a difference in

Labor Market Recovery
There are many factors that lead the labor market to recovering such as self employment, supporting

The Effects Of The Birth Of Twins
In 2011, every 1 in 82 births was the birth of twins. In the past two decades, the incidence of twin
births raised from 2.2% in 1992 to 3.8% in 2008 (Multiple Births Canada 1). This means that the birth
of twins is on the rise. Twins pregnancies are considered high risk and can cause many complications
for mother and babies. After the twins are born there are many challenges parents face to provide for
each baby with an adequate amount of attention to create a bond, especially during the first year. This
paper outlines some of the short term stressors associated with having twins such as effects on the

1). Many studies have documented elevated parental stress and psychological distress following the
birth of a preterm baby or low birth weight baby, which is common when it comes to the birth of
twins. Parental stress is often self reported and described as chronic, acute or situational. Many
mothers worry about financials, the individuality of the twins and their impact on the other family
members (Harvey, Regender, and Denny 30). Social support is the most important coping resource for
parents of premature infants because it has been shown to lessen the impacts of stress (Lutz et al. 644).
Social support can be defined as having one s needs met through the presence and interaction with
others, such as spouses, family members or friends (Lutz et al. 644). Support from family members is
more prominent in the lives of twins than in single babies because not all mothers are willing or able
to care for twins on their own. Occasionally social support from family does not always give mothers
proper bonding time with each twin. This is because one twin is always handed off to another person
while the other stays with the mother. This again may have a negative impact on the bonding of child
and mother during the first year (Piontelli 79). With the right social support mothers and families can
easily make it through the first year of the twins lives and relieve the short term

I am an ambitious and well driven woman who believes in herself. After finishing my high school l
went to Vaal university of Technology for my diploma, University of Pretoria for my degree in
engineering, and then Sorbonne University for my masters in engineering.
What first draw you to study engineering?
It has always been a passion in my life to work with electricity and electronic devices. When l was
young l used to fix and repair adapters, radios and TVs. Being accepted to the engineering faculty was
just a continuation of the dream that l begun when l was young.
Which year of study was the most challenging, and why?
Probably, my first year was horrible because l was less prepared for university studies. I missed most
classes; fell behind in class, and l was very uncertain about whether l was following the right career
path.
What do you enjoy least or most about engineering?
I hate those long hours figuring out a solution to a problem that seems impossible to decode.

Personal Integrity In The Blue Hotel And Tennessee s Partner
There are many themes evident in both Stephen Crane s The Blue Hotel and Bret Harte s Tennessee s
Partner; some of these themes are easily recognizable while recognition of the others depends on the
perception of the reader. The two stories share the theme of personal integrity and that all actions have
consequences; however, there are several themes that are unique to each story that the reader can latch
on to. The plot and storyline of Tennessee s Partner are straightforward, but after reading Crane s The
Blue Hotel, one can imagine many different plots that could have taken place throughout the story.
Through imagery, the reader can take what each author presents and let his or her imagination run
wild; there is not a set feeling or reaction that either author intends for the reader to have after reading.
Personal integrity can be seen in both stories between the characters Tennessee s Partner and The
Easterner. Tennessee s partner is integral because he never left his friend behind, even after he had
done him wrong. He was always there for Tennessee and never betrayed him. The Easterner shows his
integrity when he tells the truth about Johnnie and feels guilty about the situation with the Swede;
most people would have shrugged it off so that they did not have to deal with it but he chose to speak
up. Both of these forms of integrity show the true moral values of each character, each example gives
us a better idea of what it s like to be integrin.

The Iranian Revolution
Longevity and positive outcomes are what determine whether a revolution is successful or not. This is
not the case for Iran. Since the revolution, Iran has been economically, politically, and socially
unstable. With an economy dependent on oil, a natural source whose production is unpredictable,
stability is simply unattainable. With the same leader for a long period of time, not much can change
politically. Oppositions and revolts can happen and disrupt the social lives of Iranian citizens.
Although the Iranian Revolution was politically successful by maintaining an Islamic Republic, the
revolution was unsuccessful because of the severe economic failure it was in the long term and the
social unrest it still has today.
The revolution of 1979 marked the beginning of Iran s economic decay and even further economic
instability. Before the revolution, Iran had one of the Middle East s most advanced economies.
Petroleum exports, which make up about 85 percent of government revenues, have decreased over the
years after the revolution (Trading Economics). In fact, petroleum exports declined to 1.5 million
barrels per day in 2012 from 2.5 million barrels per day in 2011 (Trading Economics). The Iranian
government s dependence on oil revenues has resulted in persistent financial instability. Because of
this financial instability, Iran s inflation rate was greatly affected. The inflation rate is the rate of
change of prices calculated on a monthly or annual basis. In January 2014,

Justice is the concept of moral rightness that is based on equality, access and fairness. This means that
the law is applied equally, understood by all people and does not have a particularly harsh effect on an

Contamination can occur when transferring DNA or the collection of DNA evidence. In the case
involving Mr. Farah, he was wrongful charged of rape although he had appealed in the High Court
with the basis of the scientists not having said he was undisputedly the perpetrator. The scientists said
that it was a very small chance that it was not Mr. Farah which he argued was still a reasonable doubt.
The judges dismissed the case within twenty minutes but it was later found that the evidence was
contaminated. Other examples include R v. Rendell (1999) and R v. Carroll (2002.)Though technology
is advancing, the process of collecting, processing and analyzing DNA has faults. There needs to be
more training, procedures and checks put in place for the system to be effective. Faults in evidence

access to allow him to refute the claims and lead to wrongful convictions.
Miscarriage of justice is not just framed around contaminated evidence but also by the fact that juries
misinterpret information and instructions which result in an incorrect verdict. Voting for the verdict

Career And Technical Education Programs
Career and Technical Education programs, known in the profession simply as CTE, provide students
an opportunity to prepare for a wide range of careers. Students are exposed many disciplines including
health care, agriculture, business, and graphic design. Through these programs students get to explore
various career paths and get hands on training, which will help them to be more employable as they
transition into the workforce.
Holland (2013) notes that, Despite stubbornly high unemployment, many employers complain that
they can t find qualified candidates. Often, the mismatch results from applicants inadequate
communication skills.
As Holland points out, the need for skilled workers is extensive. In a time when unemployment rates
are high there are plenty of people willing to work, but because of a shortage in literacy skills and
experience, there are not many people able to work in these positions. Students who participate in
CTE programs may be more prepared to enter the workforce because of the hands on experience they
receive in the classroom and through co curricular programs such as DECA or FFA.
In addition to not having experience, students are not employable because of their lack of
communication skills. Students who are not literate are not able to communicate in writing with
clients, coworkers, or a supervisor. An inability to express oneself effectively and coherently will
render an individual unemployable. Why students are unable to

The Effect Of The Nicene Creed On The Christian Community

History of Christianity
24 September 2014
Reading Response Two The Nicene Creed says that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, begotten of
the Father before all worlds...begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father... This idea
presented conflict within the Christian community, between followers and also leaders of the church.
The idea presented in the Nicene Creed stemmed from the teachings of Greek philosophers. They
taught there was a supreme God containing all power and perfection, meaning He would never
change. This God was not affected by things that are physical and that change. This idea at first largely
helped Christians in showing others that even Greek philosophers had faith in an invisible God. Then
this idea slowly started changing the way Christians thought. Looking further into the fact that God
was in fact perfect suggested he would not have anything to do with imperfect human beings.
Although God himself may not have anything to do with flawed humans, the Christians thought
perhaps He would create intermediary angels that created and interacted with the physical world. One
of these intermediary angels was thought to be Jesus Christ. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Human Embryonic Stem Cells
Since the discovery of human embryonic stem cells, scientists have had high hopes for their use in
treating a wider variety of diseases because they are pluripotent, which means they are capable of
differentiating into one of many cell types in the body.
However, the acquisition of human embryonic stem cells from an embryo can cause the destruction of
the embryo, thus raising ethical concerns. In 2006, researchers introduced an alternative to harvesting
embryonic stem cells called induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. They provided evidence that it was
possible to send a normal adult cell back to an undifferentiated, pluripotent stem cell state by
introducing genetic material ( outside DNA) into the cell, a process that alters the original state of the
cell.
To avoid the use of embryonic stem cells, other researchers have focused more on the use of adult
stem cells, but the use of these cells is limited because, unlike embryonic stem cells that grow into any
type of mature cell, adult stem cells can only grow into certain cell types.
Now, researchers from Harvard affiliated Brigham and Women s Hospital (BWH), in collaboration
with the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology in Japan, have demonstrated that any mature adult
cell (a somatic cell) has the potential to turn into the equivalent of an embryonic stem cell. In an
article to be published in the Jan. 30 issue of Nature, researchers demonstrate, in a preclinical model, a
novel and unique way that cells can be

Urban Alienation in Ian McEwan s The Cement Garden Essay
Urban Alienation in Ian McEwan s The Cement Garden
It was not at all clear to me now why we had put her in the trunk in the first place. At the time it had
been obvious, to keep the family together. Was that a good reason? It might have been more
interesting to be apart. Nor could I think whether what we had done was an ordinary thing to do
In this essay I shall be examining the socio cultural context of The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan
(1948 ). Once placed within context, an examination of the internal worlds of the bereaved children
will follow. Attention is given to events from the perspective of Jack, the adolescent narrator and an
exploration is made of how the individual interior world of each child fuses into the others and ...

McEwan thus catapults the reader directly into the tormented mental world of Jack. We then only
observe the external world of Jack and his siblings from his single viewpoint. All is filtered through
his lonely and questionable perception. McEwan thus leaves it to the reader to analyse the action of
the novel from the filter of Jack s naïve, twisted but prevailing perspective. This creates a sense of the
claustrophobia that pervades the boy s world. The discomfort that readers feel parallels and prepares
them for Jack s anguished, alienated and contained inner world. The family, even before the parents
death, is divided within itself and isolated from other people. Thus Jack s lonely voice lends the
narration an air of obsessive and unhealthy emphasis on the very factors that create, generate and
sustain the isolated obsessions dominating this family.
The writer s concentrated narrative makes the cultural and social location of the family difficult to
determine. We know they are disassociated from mainstream society as a family unit, but individually
they attend work and school, so what makes them different as a group, and in what way is the family
different from wider society? We are told that they are a white family living on the decayed outskirts
of an unnamed British city. We are not told the father s occupation, but we

Personal choices are very important in one s life. The stories that will be compared are, The Use of
Force , by William Carlos Williams and Lather and Nothing Else , by Hernando Tellez. It is how the
protagonists deal with a situation and how they use their intellectual thinking to deal with the
situation. However, personal choices can change the outcome of a conflict, which will either be
insightful or pessimistic. People make their own personal choices in everyday life. If the personal
choices are not well made, the conflict can either have a positive conclusion or negative conclusion.

It is no longer a professional encounter. However, he is able to diagnose the illness. Just as in Tellez s
story, the barber s problem is now that he has an enemy in his shop with the ability to send him to his
death. The barber s first choice is to resolve the conflict by simply murdering Torres. However, the
barber does not execute Torres. He does not want to become a slaughter. It is clear in both of the
stories, the protagonists are in their professional jobs and face an antagonist. The protagonists have a
problem with the antagonists which causes a thug of war in between them. By making personal
choices, they are able to solve the conflict and proceed on with their regular activities. It is evidently
demonstrated in both stories that the protagonists make their own choices which help them solve the
conflict. Both of the protagonists are using their thinking and judgmental skills on how to approach
the conflict. The doctor has to determine in which way he is going to be able to confront the patient
and diagnose the problem. Correspondingly, the barber as well has to comprehend, concerning how he
is going to deal with Captain Torres. The society creates their own personal opinions in everyday life,
but if the decisions made are not well informed, there will be difficulties.
If intelligent personal choices are not well built, the conflicts can one or the other have a positive or
negative conclusion. In Williams The

Hitman Research Paper
OVER THE PAST YEAR, the release roadmap for Hitman changed more times than Agent 47 has
disguises, before publisher Square Enix and developer IO Interactive finally settled on you ll just get
the bits that are ready in March for cheap . It s always disquieting to see such indecision over an
expensive property so close to release, and sure enough, Hitman s Intro Pack shows signs of a hasty
assembly the way my trackpants did in the 90s whenever my parents were silly enough not to knock
before entering. Functioning both as a prologue to the 16 year old franchise and a continuation of the
events in 2012 s disappointingly linear Absolution, Hitman: No Subtitle opens with the text 20 years
earlier hanging onscreen, as if the last game anyone played was Absolution, after which we all just sat
in unmoving silence, pondering how such a distinctive looking man could possibly remain so
undetectable simply by changing his clothes. It s a weird non sequitur of a start that had me wondering
I d accidentally skipped a cutscene while scratching my back* with my DualShock 4, and when I was

Anticipation and Suspense in the Adventure of the Speckled...
How does Conan Doyle create a sense of anticipation and suspense in the Adventure of the Speckled
Band?
The Adventure of the Speckled Band is a classic mystery novel. It is so in the way that it uses several
writing techniques to create a sense of ambiguity and vagueness. Conan Doyle makes sure to leave the
reader with as little information as possible and to make it hard to foresee what will happen next. This
is all to have them anticipate the ending and the solving of the mystery, to keep them gripped. Even
the very title of the novel is unclear and does well to conjure up ideas inside the readers mind. It is
only until the whole story is took in and the ending is unveiled that the reader can fully appreciate and

The meeting of Helen Stoner is very important. She is described as having veiled and fully black
attire. This suggests that she is in mourning. She is also described as having frightened eyes, like those
of a hunted animal, and being very agitated and trembling. Conan Doyle regularly uses this technique
of showing the reader the symptom before a cause is established. It is much more shocking. This is all
to construct the readers sympathy for Helen Stoner, but also instigate fear in whatever it is she fears.
Conan Doyle also uses this meeting as a means to show the reader the significance of apparently
minor and trivial clues in the story that unfolds. Sherlock Holmes deduces
Helen s mode of travel by observing that she has the second half of a train ticket in the palm of her
hand. This allows him to safely assume that Helen has travelled to him by train that morning. This
technique warns the reader to be on lookout for what may seem like trivial details if they want to try to
solve the mystery. It also allows Conan to throw in some red herrings in order to divert the reader and
throw them off the trail.
Helen Stoner goes on to describe her family and her circumstances, in particularly her Stepfather. Her
description of him suggests to the reader that he is monstrous, brutal and feared by everyone.
In a fit of anger, however, caused by

Machiavelli s The Prince And Leviathan
Although misunderstood when introduced to society during their time, Niccolo Machiavelli s The
Prince and Thomas Hobbes Leviathan have been two of the most influential political works in history.
The Prince and Leviathan, although seen as immoral and almost wicked works of their time, have
guided many political thinkers, even America s own Thomas Jefferson, on the subject of governance
and power. This paper will compare the similarities and differences between both works in terms of
the historical settings in which they were written as well as between the two distinct political
philosophies presented by each man. More specifically, this paper will differentiate the purpose of
power between Machiavelli s theory of an absolute ruler separated from morals and ethics compared
to Hobbes reasoning for a necessary and absolute ruler to put an end to the chaotic state of nature he
presents.
Identification of Documents
The Prince, written by Niccolo Machiavelli in 1513 in his native Italian language, was a book
dedicated to Florence s then leader Lorenzo de Medici in an effort for Machiavelli to gain a position in
Florence s new government. The book was intended to help guide Lorenzo and other present and
future leaders in gaining and maintaining power, more specifically to aid Lorenzo in unifying Italy
under one ruler. Machiavelli lived during a time of great political strife in Italy as the small city states
of Italy, the Papal States, and the powerful states of Spain and

William Shakespeare s The Globe Theatre
During the Elizabethan Era, The Globe Theatre was a very influential upcoming piece of architecture
that even Shakespeare first had his plays performed in. Although it was very difficult to keep the
building standing for long, it inspired many new theatre styles and still lives on today in England. The
Globe Theatre was extremely influential during the Elizabethan Era because of its long history, unique
architecture, and new ways of acting to go along with the new theatre style. Although the majority of
Shakespeare s plays were first produced in the original Globe Theatre, his plays used to be performed
in other forms of amphitheaters, such as halls, inns or open arenas (Cummings). Shakespeare belonged
to a company called Chamberlain s Men. They acted and before The Globe Theatre even existed, they
would perform in The Theatre, originally built and owned by James Burbage (Cummings). The
Burbage family consisted of James, the father and owner of The Theatre, and Cuthbert Burbage, who
was not actor but admired theatre (Cummings). The other son of James Burbage was Robert Burbage,
an actor in the Chamberlain s Men acting company and star of most Shakespearian plays such as
Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet (Cummings). In 1597, the land that The Theatre was built on
had a lease that was almost up, and Giles Allen, the owner of the land, wished to tear the building
down (Pressley). Because of this dispute, The Globe Theatre came into existence. While working very

The Panola county show is a livestock show where every school in Panola county comes out and
shows their animal. You can show chickens, rabbits, goats, lambs, pigs, and cows. I showed a goat my
very first year I started to show. But after that year I have always shown a pig for our Panola county
show. I usually get my pig at the end of October and keep him until February 24th whenever I sell
him. Every morning I wake up and go feed him before I get ready for school. After school, I come
home and walk him and then feed him. Whenever it s show week we weigh pigs in on Wednesday to
see what class they go into. A class is what your pig goes into depending on his weight. He goes in the

Bush Speech Ethos
The events that took place in America on September 11, 2001 will have a lasting wound on this
country forever. President George W. Bush s speech, A Great People Has Been Moved to Defend a
Great Nation , gave America something to have hope in. Bush was a republican president and was the
43rd of the United States and was a very passionate man. Although Bush had to make some tough
decisions that very day, he was a president that made a lasting impact on America. Throughout Bush s
speech, he effectively covered pathos, ethos, and logos. Bush was very clear in his speech that he
wanted to send his sincere thoughts to America. He was specifically speaking to the American people,
but in the bigger picture, he was speaking to America s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bush uses the appeal of ethos in an effective manner. Bush had prior experience being a governor in
Texas before his presidential experience. He is very clear and confident throughout this entire speech
that the American people will recover from this event. Bush knows how the American military
functions more than any other person out there, and he states, our military is powerful, and its
prepared (Bush, 2001, para. 3). That statement is very bold and it would give any American the sense
of protection they needed to feel during this time. Bush had the experience to lead this country in a
time like 9/11 and he and congress worked together hand in hand to work powerfully on these attacks
(Bush, 2001). Although most of the American people did not know Bush on a personal level, when he
delivered this speech, he made it his top priority to feel a personal connection with the entire country.
Having the title of the President of the United States gives Bush the credibility he needed to use ethos
effectively in the 9/11 speech. Bush successfully uses logos throughout this speech. Bush is very direct
with the statements he uses to prove his points and to stand firm for America. Bush is very clear that
the events that took place on 9/11 will not have a lasting effect on the American people. He states, we
will stand together to win the war against terrorism (Bush, 2001, para.

  • 2. Techie 12 Research Paper If fishing is your thing, but you want a paddle board that is a little smaller than the Dragonfly 13 6 , then the Techie 12 is a good choice. While previous paddle boards from Dragonfly could be used for fishing, the Techie has been specifically designed for the hard core angler. According to Dragonfly, the purpose of the board is frill free fishing, but this doesn t mean that they skimped on features. What makes the Techie special is the fact that it is hand crafted using vinyl ester resin with bi directional fabric. It also has a 30 inch beam and beaded foam core. Dragonfly included two cubic square feet of forward dry storage in the twelve foot hull and a small circular well in the aft. The forward storage is insulated and the aft well is compatible with an optional pump. Also on this board you ll find three flush mounted rail systems and how you customize it with camera mounts, rod holders and other accessories is up to you. Also of note is the unique water shedding deck and ocean grip padding. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, it has a removable fin system and drain plug. Don t let the light weight fool you as this board is able to float about 320 pounds. Dragonfly Boatworks is known for the quality that goes into their products and this can clearly be seen with the Techie 12 . If you are a fishing purist and want a reliable paddle board that does everything you need it to do out on the water then don t miss out on the Techie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis Essay Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity, by C. S. Lewis, is written as set of guidelines of Christian belief. Lewis does not say there is any particular way to believe but he does make a point that the topic of religion itself is serious. As you consider whether you want to believe or not, you have to recognize how much thought it requires, and how thought provoking a process this decision is. Lewis covers Christianity in four different books within his book. In book one, Lewis discusses the Law of Nature and makes note of a tendency in humans of appealing to a standard of absolute truth in quarrels and arguments. He calls this standard the Law of Nature or the Moral Law. The Law isn t the same as the law of gravity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lewis argument in the third book is most important to the point I want to discuss. He argues through this chapter the Christian behavior. Morality is what he considers to be the basics of good Christian behavior. Lewis states that morality is not simply, something that prevents you from having a good time , but rather morals are the directions for running the human machine . Every moral rule is there to prevent wear and tear on the way machine operates. He realizes that is why the rules seem to be constantly getting in the way of are natural behavior. Lewis sees that some people think in terms of moral ideals not rules and obedience. Ideals suggest preference to personal taste. Something that subjective would be meaningless in practice. Idealistic notions are meaningless unless we try to carry them out. Acting on ideals requires rules. Lewis uses the analogy of the ship to show how ideals without rules can go wrong. If the ships keep on having crashes they will not be able to sail. If their steering gears do not work they will not be able to avoid crashes. The cardinal virtues are seven virtues that help guide us to have good morality. Prudence is the first virtue and is having the common sense enough to think about what you are doing and what are the consequences. Temperance is finding moderation in your lifestyle. Justice includes traits like honesty, the ability to give and take, keeping promises, and so on. Fortitude includes two kinds of courage: the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Obstructive Sleep Apnea Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is when someone is experiencing episodes of cessation of breaths during sleep because of their upper airway relaxing and obstructing air flow during sleep. The episodes usually last for ten seconds or greater and is usually accompanied with a decreased oxygen saturation. Although the airway is relaxed and obstructing airflow, the body (brain) is still attempting to breathe. When breathing has resumed from its apneic state, there is usually a loud gasping snore and or body jerking which can lead to restless sleep for the person with OSA and their partner. According the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute more than twelve million people in the United States have this clinical disorder. People who have OSA may be sleepy in the day and experience subsequent disorders such as oxyhemoglobin desaturation, pulmonary hypertension, right sided heart failure, arrhythmias, myocardial infarction and diabetes. Proper diagnosing and treatment of a person with OSA can yield optimal results thereby improving quality of life. Some causes or risk factors of Obstructive Sleep Apnea are being overweight or obese, having a large neck, having a narrow airway, high blood pressure, diabetes, being middle aged, and having a genetic predisposition. Patients with OSA seem to have high cholesterol with an increase in LDL s and a decrease in HDL s (good cholesterol (Nadeem R, 2014). This documenting method, which is usually taught in schools, is how most professional scientists, engineers, and other technical writers choose to write. The main features of a document that follows the standard model include the following: Abstract or summary: A brief overview of the document, including its conclusions and recommendations if there are any. • 6. Equal Rights to Marry for Same-Sex Couples California Proposition 8: Same Sex Marriage The equal right to marry for same sex couples in the United States has acquired growing public support over time, with a quantity of state level laws passed and others presently up for debate. Proposition 8 was a ballot proposition and constitutional amendment that was passed in the November 2008 state elections in California. The measure added a new provision, Section 7.5 of the Declaration of Rights, to the California Constitution, which provides that only marriage between a man and a woman is legitimate or recognized in California. By limiting the acknowledgment of marriage to opposite sex couples, the proposition reversed the California Supreme Court s ruling of In re Marriage Cases that same sex couples have a constitutional right to get married (Newman, 2010). The wording of Proposition 8 was exactly the same as Proposition 22, which had passed in 2000 and, as an ordinary statute, had been nullified by the State Supreme Court in 2008. California s State Constitution put Proposition 8 into instant effect the day after the election (Scotto, 2010). Supporters of the constitutional amendment contended that solely heterosexual marriage was a necessary institution of society and that leaving the constitution untouched would result in public schools teaching the kids that gay marriage is okay, and that gays do not have the right to redefine marriage for everyone else. Opponents contended that the freedom to marry is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Compare And Contrast A Barred Owl And The History Teacher It s the dead of the night and the shrieking calls of a barred owl break the silence. A young child bolts upright in bed with fear written across her innocent face. A teacher s class is about to be taught a lesson on The Ice Age. The parents of the frightened child hush their daughter and say it was just an inquisitive owl that scared her awake. The teacher pulls on a sweater and says, Cavemen wore these a lot in The Ice Age. The children in these scenarios are the victims of deceit. Both poems, A Barred Owl and The History Teacher by Richard Wilbur and Billy Collins show the effects of not exposing children to the truth early on in life. The parent and teacher mentioned are only concerned about their children s innocence remaining intact, and they don t take into consideration how sheltering them from the truth life holds will affect the children s minds. Wilbur and Collins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the child was put to bed, the sky was probably not as dark as it was when she was woken by the owl. Wilbur s words reveal this when the poem begins on a lighter note than the gruesome ending. An owl has eyes that are much larger than those of the child mentioned. That being said, this barred owl can clearly see the world and the life around him. The child cannot due to the fact that her parents are preventing her from such exposure. Innocent minds deserve a healthy dose of reality provided in the form of truthful explanations from the adults in their lives. The poem, The History Teacher leans towards a more playful and bright tone than the tone Wilbur used in A Barred Owl. It almost sounds ironic that Collins titled the poem, The History Teacher because when spoken in a sarcastic tone it sounds like he s mocking the teacher. He calls him a history teacher sarcastically because the poet agrees with the fact that this teacher isn t actually teaching history. He s feeding the children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Movie Essays Romanticism in the Film Version of The Big Sleep In Raymond Chandler s novel The Big Sleep, he presents two sisters, Vivian and Carmen. These women become the central characters, aside from Philip Marlowe, and they control much of the action in the novel. The 1946 film version of The Big Sleep, however, manipulates Chandler s characters considerably. Aside from playing with the dialogue of the novel, the screen writers change the very essences of Vivian and Carmen. Perhaps it is the casting of the film which forces changes from the novel, or perhaps the Production Code keeps the writers from developing the women in the way that Chandler does; either way, the film version of The Big Sleep makes the story romantic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Chandler 19) In the novel, Marlowe doesn t care for Vivian anymore than she does for him. A fact that is hammered home throughout the novel in the dialogue between these two characters. In the movie, however, there is a distinct attraction between the characters, purposely created to capitalize on the real life affair between Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Director Howard Hawks was charged with creating a movie vehicle for these stars as a result of their incredible chemistry from the earlier movie To Have and Have Not. Bogart and Bacall were phenomenally well matched on screen and off, and Hawks decided that The Big Sleep was the best film to display their chemistry. In order to do so, the script needed to be revised from the novel. The novel calls for Marlowe and Vivian to go their separate ways, with Marlowe discretely threatening to reveal Vivian s secrets and Vivian shattered and responsible for Carmen s deranged life. Hawks asked William Faulkner to create a screenplay that would maximize the drama while maintaining an air of romance between Bogart and Bacall. The script that resulted concluded with Marlowe and Vivian together, presumably heading off into the sunset towards an implied marriage; the traditional happy ending. The character of Vivian that comes out of Faulkner s script is softer and more dynamic than Chandler s Vivian. Faulkner s sings in a gambling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A new employee in a new city, looking to show how much he believed in his new team and teammates. As a Knick fan, I was excited to see that kind of boastfulness coming from a NY Knicks point guard but I was also highly skeptical. So, after 20% of the season logged, where do the Knicks and Rose s prediction stand? After a tough road loss to the Hornets on Saturday night and a tough loss at home to the Russell Westbrooks on Monday, the Knicks stand at 8 9 before heading into a home and home against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Those same temptations you may feel are also pressures for them afterall. But miss Danielle Agoglia, from Elite Daily, offers another perspective: you need to trust your partner. Letting go of all those fears and concerns and simply realizing that your partner, just like you, is in love and wants to make this work. Just like the participants in Meitzner and Li wen s study, Agoglia found she began to trust herself a lot more as she trusted her partner. While these are all anecdotal evidence, I do think it can lend itself to making one think at the very least. Regardless, trusting your partner not only to do right by you and your relationship but also to help you when you need it can take a lot of stress off of your shoulders. Learning to really and truly trust your partner, while easier said than done is essential to a functioning long distance relationship. There is a difference between trusting support and dependency, however. It is a very important difference too. As an individual, each partner must come to terms with the distance and be able to fend for themselves. This may seem at odds with the previous two maintenance methods as it advocates for more independence from the relationship, but it is important. Unlike a lot of couples you can t live together and have separate lives and finances. This makes practical support incredibly difficult, so instead couples emotionally support each other. This is good, and should definitely be encouraged behavior. Unfortunately, some couples will become emotionally dependent. What this means is that one partner relies on the other as the source for his or her happiness. In her article on The Huffington Post, Margaret Paul discusses this issue. I often see couples where one partner is emotionally dependent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Approval for the Tellico project came in the early 1960s when the TVA had the unified support of congressional delegates from Tennessee, as well as all other southeastern states that would be directly affected by the damming of the Little Tennessee River. On April 15, 1963, after the endorsement for the project was approved, congressional funding was sought after in order to move forward with foundational structure. Finally, after a few minor complications in procedure, the Public Works Appropriation Act included $3.2 million to begin the construction of the tellico Dam in March of 1967. (21) Originally, the support for the dam on the governmental side was lacking, due to the notion that the benefit to cost ratio hovered around .6 to 1. The rationale for such dismal projections was due to the fact that Tellico Dam could not stand alone as a power generation project. This forced the TVA to adjust how they pitched the idea to receive enough funding to ensure that the idea received enough support.(16) Rather than focusing on a energy efficiency and infrastructural growth as a platform, the Authority presented to plan as social benefit the otherwise rural and quiet society. Many studies have documented elevated parental stress and psychological distress following the birth of a preterm baby or low birth weight baby, which is common when it comes to the birth of twins. Parental stress is often self reported and described as chronic, acute or situational. Many mothers worry about financials, the individuality of the twins and their impact on the other family members (Harvey, Regender, and Denny 30). Social support is the most important coping resource for parents of premature infants because it has been shown to lessen the impacts of stress (Lutz et al. 644). Social support can be defined as having one s needs met through the presence and interaction with others, such as spouses, family members or friends (Lutz et al. 644). Support from family members is more prominent in the lives of twins than in single babies because not all mothers are willing or able to care for twins on their own. Occasionally social support from family does not always give mothers proper bonding time with each twin. This is because one twin is always handed off to another person while the other stays with the mother. Personal Integrity In The Blue Hotel And Tennessee s Partner There are many themes evident in both Stephen Crane s The Blue Hotel and Bret Harte s Tennessee s Partner; some of these themes are easily recognizable while recognition of the others depends on the perception of the reader. The two stories share the theme of personal integrity and that all actions have consequences; however, there are several themes that are unique to each story that the reader can latch on to. The plot and storyline of Tennessee s Partner are straightforward, but after reading Crane s The Blue Hotel, one can imagine many different plots that could have taken place throughout the story. Since the revolution, Iran has been economically, politically, and socially unstable. With the same leader for a long period of time, not much can change politically. Oppositions and revolts can happen and disrupt the social lives of Iranian citizens. Although the Iranian Revolution was politically successful by maintaining an Islamic Republic, the revolution was unsuccessful because of the severe economic failure it was in the long term and the social unrest it still has today. Students are exposed many disciplines including health care, agriculture, business, and graphic design. Through these programs students get to explore various career paths and get hands on training, which will help them to be more employable as they transition into the workforce. Holland (2013) notes that, Despite stubbornly high unemployment, many employers complain that they can t find qualified candidates. Often, the mismatch results from applicants inadequate communication skills. As Holland points out, the need for skilled workers is extensive. In a time when unemployment rates are high there are plenty of people willing to work, but because of a shortage in literacy skills and experience, there are not many people able to work in these positions. Students who participate in CTE programs may be more prepared to enter the workforce because of the hands on experience they receive in the classroom and through co curricular programs such as DECA or FFA. In addition to not having experience, students are not employable because of their lack of communication skills. Students who are not literate are not able to communicate in writing with clients, coworkers, or a supervisor. An inability to express oneself effectively and coherently will render an individual unemployable. Why students are unable to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effect Of The Nicene Creed On The Christian Community Alyssa Oliviero Professor Chris King History of Christianity 24 September 2014 Reading Response Two The Nicene Creed says that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds...begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father... This idea presented conflict within the Christian community, between followers and also leaders of the church. The idea presented in the Nicene Creed stemmed from the teachings of Greek philosophers. They taught there was a supreme God containing all power and perfection, meaning He would never change. This God was not affected by things that are physical and that change. This idea at first largely helped Christians in showing others that even Greek philosophers had faith in an invisible God. Then this idea slowly started changing the way Christians thought. Looking further into the fact that God was in fact perfect suggested he would not have anything to do with imperfect human beings. Although God himself may not have anything to do with flawed humans, the Christians thought perhaps He would create intermediary angels that created and interacted with the physical world. One of these intermediary angels was thought to be Jesus Christ. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before this, Christians simply believed God and Jesus Christ were one in the same. • 41. The Human Embryonic Stem Cells Since the discovery of human embryonic stem cells, scientists have had high hopes for their use in treating a wider variety of diseases because they are pluripotent, which means they are capable of differentiating into one of many cell types in the body. However, the acquisition of human embryonic stem cells from an embryo can cause the destruction of the embryo, thus raising ethical concerns. In 2006, researchers introduced an alternative to harvesting embryonic stem cells called induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. They provided evidence that it was possible to send a normal adult cell back to an undifferentiated, pluripotent stem cell state by introducing genetic material ( outside DNA) into the cell, a process that alters the original state of the cell. To avoid the use of embryonic stem cells, other researchers have focused more on the use of adult stem cells, but the use of these cells is limited because, unlike embryonic stem cells that grow into any type of mature cell, adult stem cells can only grow into certain cell types. Now, researchers from Harvard affiliated Brigham and Women s Hospital (BWH), in collaboration with the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology in Japan, have demonstrated that any mature adult cell (a somatic cell) has the potential to turn into the equivalent of an embryonic stem cell. In an article to be published in the Jan. 30 issue of Nature, researchers demonstrate, in a preclinical model, a novel and unique way that cells can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the time it had been obvious, to keep the family together. Was that a good reason? It might have been more interesting to be apart. Nor could I think whether what we had done was an ordinary thing to do In this essay I shall be examining the socio cultural context of The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan (1948 ). Once placed within context, an examination of the internal worlds of the bereaved children will follow. Attention is given to events from the perspective of Jack, the adolescent narrator and an exploration is made of how the individual interior world of each child fuses into the others and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (p.9) McEwan thus catapults the reader directly into the tormented mental world of Jack. We then only observe the external world of Jack and his siblings from his single viewpoint. All is filtered through his lonely and questionable perception. McEwan thus leaves it to the reader to analyse the action of the novel from the filter of Jack s naïve, twisted but prevailing perspective. This creates a sense of the claustrophobia that pervades the boy s world. The discomfort that readers feel parallels and prepares them for Jack s anguished, alienated and contained inner world. The family, even before the parents death, is divided within itself and isolated from other people. Thus Jack s lonely voice lends the narration an air of obsessive and unhealthy emphasis on the very factors that create, generate and sustain the isolated obsessions dominating this family. The writer s concentrated narrative makes the cultural and social location of the family difficult to determine. We know they are disassociated from mainstream society as a family unit, but individually they attend work and school, so what makes them different as a group, and in what way is the family different from wider society? We are told that they are a white family living on the decayed outskirts of an unnamed British city. We are not told the father s occupation, but we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Adventure of the Speckled Band is a classic mystery novel. It is so in the way that it uses several writing techniques to create a sense of ambiguity and vagueness. Conan Doyle makes sure to leave the reader with as little information as possible and to make it hard to foresee what will happen next. This is all to have them anticipate the ending and the solving of the mystery, to keep them gripped. The meeting of Helen Stoner is very important. She is described as having veiled and fully black attire. This suggests that she is in mourning. She is also described as having frightened eyes, like those of a hunted animal, and being very agitated and trembling. Conan Doyle regularly uses this technique of showing the reader the symptom before a cause is established. It is much more shocking. This is all to construct the readers sympathy for Helen Stoner, but also instigate fear in whatever it is she fears. Conan Doyle also uses this meeting as a means to show the reader the significance of apparently minor and trivial clues in the story that unfolds. Sherlock Holmes deduces Helen s mode of travel by observing that she has the second half of a train ticket in the palm of her hand. This allows him to safely assume that Helen has travelled to him by train that morning. This technique warns the reader to be on lookout for what may seem like trivial details if they want to try to solve the mystery. It also allows Conan to throw in some red herrings in order to divert the reader and throw them off the trail. Machiavelli s The Prince And Leviathan Although misunderstood when introduced to society during their time, Niccolo Machiavelli s The Prince and Thomas Hobbes Leviathan have been two of the most influential political works in history. The Prince and Leviathan, although seen as immoral and almost wicked works of their time, have guided many political thinkers, even America s own Thomas Jefferson, on the subject of governance and power. This paper will compare the similarities and differences between both works in terms of the historical settings in which they were written as well as between the two distinct political philosophies presented by each man. More specifically, this paper will differentiate the purpose of power between Machiavelli s theory of an absolute ruler separated from morals and ethics compared to Hobbes reasoning for a necessary and absolute ruler to put an end to the chaotic state of nature he presents. Identification of Documents The Prince, written by Niccolo Machiavelli in 1513 in his native Italian language, was a book dedicated to Florence s then leader Lorenzo de Medici in an effort for Machiavelli to gain a position in Florence s new government. William Shakespeare s The Globe Theatre During the Elizabethan Era, The Globe Theatre was a very influential upcoming piece of architecture that even Shakespeare first had his plays performed in. Although it was very difficult to keep the building standing for long, it inspired many new theatre styles and still lives on today in England. The Globe Theatre was extremely influential during the Elizabethan Era because of its long history, unique architecture, and new ways of acting to go along with the new theatre style. Although the majority of Shakespeare s plays were first produced in the original Globe Theatre, his plays used to be performed in other forms of amphitheaters, such as halls, inns or open arenas (Cummings). Shakespeare belonged to a company called Chamberlain s Men. They acted and before The Globe Theatre even existed, they would perform in The Theatre, originally built and owned by James Burbage (Cummings). The Burbage family consisted of James, the father and owner of The Theatre, and Cuthbert Burbage, who was not actor but admired theatre (Cummings). The other son of James Burbage was Robert Burbage, an actor in the Chamberlain s Men acting company and star of most Shakespearian plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet (Cummings).
